Located in the hearts of Southeast Asia, 00:00:46.62\00:00:49.66 the country of Cambodia is a wonderful example 00:00:49.69\00:00:52.99 of God's grace, providence and amazing love. 00:00:53.02\00:00:59.66 It is also a remarkable illustration 00:00:59.69\00:01:02.36 of how the prophecy of Jesus found in Matthew 24 00:01:02.39\00:01:06.48 is being dramatically fulfilled in our time. 00:01:06.51\00:01:09.55 Sitting on the Mount of Olives almost 2,000 years ago, 00:01:12.43\00:01:16.29 Jesus said "And this gospel of the kingdom 00:01:16.32\00:01:19.89 shall be preached in all the world 00:01:19.92\00:01:22.29 for a witness unto all nations, 00:01:22.32\00:01:24.93 and then shall the end come." 00:01:24.96\00:01:28.51 Until very recently Cambodia was a country 00:01:28.54\00:01:31.55 that was resisting the power of these words of Jesus. 00:01:31.58\00:01:36.32 Over the centuries, Christianity has made 00:01:36.35\00:01:39.09 very little progress in Cambodia. 00:01:39.12\00:01:42.01 People were steeped in Buddhism 00:01:42.04\00:01:44.58 and found the ideas of Christianity 00:01:44.61\00:01:47.26 foreign and strange. 00:01:47.29\00:01:50.23 However, all of that was about to change. 00:01:50.26\00:01:53.77 When civil war and chaos broke out in Cambodia in 1975, 00:01:53.80\00:01:59.76 thousands of people fled to refugee camps 00:01:59.79\00:02:02.87 along the boarders of Thailand. 00:02:02.90\00:02:05.68 It was here that they not only found salvation 00:02:05.71\00:02:08.46 from their physical enemies 00:02:08.49\00:02:10.30 but also a new message of hope 00:02:10.33\00:02:12.29 for spiritual salvation as well. 00:02:12.32\00:02:16.27 Judy Aitken, founder of ASAP along with her family 00:02:16.30\00:02:21.51 and dedicated relief workers and nurses 00:02:21.54\00:02:24.40 were there to minister to these suffering souls. 00:02:24.43\00:02:28.75 As they cared for their physical needs, 00:02:28.78\00:02:31.43 they also told them about a creator God 00:02:31.46\00:02:33.84 that love them enough to come to this earth 00:02:33.87\00:02:36.70 and die for their eternal salvation. 00:02:36.73\00:02:39.94 As these new believers 00:02:39.97\00:02:41.32 trickled back to Cambodia during the 1990s, 00:02:41.35\00:02:44.98 they began to share their new found faith 00:02:45.01\00:02:47.31 with their friends and relatives. 00:02:47.34\00:02:50.09 With support from dedicated ASAP donors 00:02:50.12\00:02:53.72 many new church groups were established 00:02:53.75\00:02:56.04 and the seeds of Christianity were sown far and wide 00:02:56.07\00:03:00.05 throughout the country. 00:03:00.08\00:03:01.14 Pol Pot and the killing fields and all of the horrors 00:03:17.54\00:03:22.17 that took place in 1970s and 1980s, 00:03:22.20\00:03:25.77 actually created a hunger among the Cambodian people. 00:03:25.80\00:03:29.19 They were looking for something new. 00:03:29.22\00:03:30.97 Buddhism was discredited in their eyes 00:03:31.00\00:03:33.20 and they were open and thirsty and hungry 00:03:33.23\00:03:35.81 looking for a new something 00:03:35.84\00:03:39.18 and Christianity is filling that in powerful ways 00:03:39.21\00:03:42.08 and they are responding in ways that are just incredible. 00:03:42.11\00:03:45.20 Linda and I went to Cambodia in 1997. 00:03:48.57\00:03:51.77 We stayed there till the end of 2000 00:03:51.80\00:03:53.69 and then I came back here to the seminary. 00:03:53.72\00:03:55.74 And after coming back 00:03:55.77\00:03:56.80 it's exciting to hear the things 00:03:56.83\00:03:58.37 that God is doing and continues to do 00:03:58.40\00:04:00.46 in that part of the world. 00:04:00.49\00:04:02.00 I think one of the most exciting things has been 00:04:02.03\00:04:04.09 to see the incredible growth of the church in Phnom Penh. 00:04:04.12\00:04:09.32 It's a city of about a million people 00:04:09.35\00:04:10.98 and when I left 00:04:11.01\00:04:12.24 we had one major church in a couple of small companies 00:04:12.27\00:04:15.04 and now they have just mushroomed 00:04:15.07\00:04:16.66 and there are over 20 churches and lot of companies 00:04:16.69\00:04:21.46 and they have lot of people working there. 00:04:21.49\00:04:23.08 So that has been very exciting. 00:04:23.11\00:04:25.37 And before I left we basically did things 00:04:25.40\00:04:28.66 in personal evangelism small house Bible studies. 00:04:28.69\00:04:31.98 Since I left they have had 00:04:32.01\00:04:33.48 several large public evangelistic series 00:04:33.51\00:04:36.91 with thousands of people in attendance 00:04:36.94\00:04:39.33 and hundreds of baptisms. 00:04:39.36\00:04:41.10 That's pretty exciting 00:04:41.13\00:04:42.16 to see happening in a Buddhist country. 00:04:42.19\00:04:44.92 When I first came the idea was to push out 00:04:49.40\00:04:53.23 as widely as possible into as many provinces 00:04:53.26\00:04:57.47 and that was good up to a point because at that time 00:04:57.50\00:05:01.48 we had relative freedom in getting into other provinces. 00:05:01.51\00:05:05.22 Now it's more difficult because the authorities 00:05:05.25\00:05:08.90 don't want to see more Christian churches established. 00:05:08.93\00:05:13.43 And so where you haven't established presence-- 00:05:13.46\00:05:17.65 there isn't a real problem. 00:05:17.68\00:05:19.70 If you are going into a brand new area, 00:05:19.73\00:05:22.19 then it would be more difficult today 00:05:22.22\00:05:24.41 than it was five years ago. 00:05:24.44\00:05:26.19 For the last 10 years or so 00:05:26.22\00:05:27.86 we've been working mainly in rural areas 00:05:27.89\00:05:31.09 and not much attention given to the city work. 00:05:31.12\00:05:34.46 And so we have thought now its time 00:05:34.49\00:05:35.98 that we should look at a city seriously 00:05:36.01\00:05:41.11 and device a plan 00:05:41.14\00:05:42.51 where by we can do evangelism for the city people. 00:05:42.54\00:05:46.65 Now in 2005 we have 61 groups worshiping in Phnom Penh. 00:05:46.68\00:05:53.74 And some of those have developed into churches, 00:05:53.77\00:05:56.54 others are progressing that way. 00:05:56.57\00:05:59.11 We have approximately 3,000 members in Phnom Penh 00:05:59.14\00:06:03.66 instead of the 500 or 600 we had in 2000. 00:06:03.69\00:06:06.47 And also as a result of that 00:06:06.50\00:06:08.16 our tithe base increased 25% last year 00:06:08.19\00:06:11.76 and that's from local tithe. 00:06:11.79\00:06:13.32 So that was a good indication 00:06:13.35\00:06:14.89 that some progress was being made. 00:06:14.92\00:06:18.35 People who are working don't take a walk by looking at them. 00:06:18.38\00:06:22.78 This is relatively easy here and that's so refreshing 00:06:22.81\00:06:26.45 compared with some other parts of the world 00:06:26.48\00:06:28.06 that been in where to get people 00:06:28.09\00:06:29.75 out of the pew is so difficult 00:06:29.78\00:06:32.92 because they thing that's what church is and really it's not. 00:06:32.95\00:06:37.34 And it's marvelous to be able to see these people 00:06:37.37\00:06:41.45 who had such a traumatic background 00:06:41.48\00:06:43.55 develop into strong Christians, with a strong desire 00:06:43.58\00:06:48.02 to prepare as many people as possible before Jesus comes. 00:06:48.05\00:06:51.36 As soon as the person is baptized 00:06:51.39\00:06:52.67 we're teaching them to witness to others 00:06:52.70\00:06:55.38 and then we put them to work. 00:06:55.41\00:06:57.17 I mean that's the only way to keep the members in church 00:06:57.20\00:06:59.56 and that's we've done and continue to do. 00:06:59.59\00:07:02.16 So we would train them 00:07:02.19\00:07:03.81 and then they would go out again, 00:07:03.84\00:07:05.64 make visitations, get to know people, 00:07:05.67\00:07:08.10 their neighbors, their friends, 00:07:08.13\00:07:09.92 basically friendship evangelism. 00:07:09.95\00:07:11.66 Friendship evangelism is the best method 00:07:11.69\00:07:14.71 to approach the Buddhist people 00:07:14.74\00:07:16.56 in the city of Phnom Penh. 00:07:16.59\00:07:18.13 Cambodian is one country that really needs friendship. 00:07:18.16\00:07:23.07 And we cannot approach people without making friends first. 00:07:23.10\00:07:28.66 Because Cambodia is a war-torn country 00:07:28.69\00:07:32.40 that suffered from the war for almost 20 years, 00:07:32.43\00:07:35.12 people are open to what we call the new era. 00:07:35.15\00:07:38.79 That is why Christianity can come to Phnom Penh city 00:07:38.82\00:07:42.23 and people open their mind to accept it. 00:07:42.26\00:07:45.86 The way of personal evangelism 00:07:45.89\00:07:47.77 from one to one, from house to house, 00:07:47.80\00:07:50.58 from one community to one community 00:07:50.61\00:07:52.34 that we can spread out 00:07:52.37\00:07:54.20 and we can approach the Buddhist people. 00:07:54.23\00:07:57.61 Buddhist people in Cambodia they open heart 00:07:57.64\00:08:00.07 because they have suffered for a long time. 00:08:00.10\00:08:02.71 And then it is a good time for us to tell people, 00:08:02.74\00:08:05.22 because we worship the wrong god 00:08:05.25\00:08:08.02 and then we suffer. 00:08:08.05\00:08:09.70 And right now we found the true God 00:08:09.73\00:08:11.79 and the true God can help the people. 00:08:11.82\00:08:13.94 We see a good change with their life 00:08:13.97\00:08:16.87 before they become Christians, some steal, 00:08:16.90\00:08:19.58 and some make problems in family. 00:08:19.61\00:08:21.65 When they become Christian they become calm person, 00:08:21.68\00:08:24.65 they are not cruel like before. 00:08:24.68\00:08:25.89 Yeah, they don't go to drink 00:08:25.92\00:08:27.44 and they don't go to do bad things. 00:08:27.47\00:08:30.04 And the family become more happier than they was. 00:08:30.07\00:08:37.82 We've developed so quickly 00:08:37.85\00:08:39.45 that we've had to change our planning 00:08:39.48\00:08:42.01 in order to keep up with events. 00:08:42.04\00:08:44.79 In 2002, we began a pioneer program in Phnom Penh. 00:08:44.82\00:08:49.75 We selected 60 young people 00:08:49.78\00:08:52.64 and they were really the backbone 00:08:52.67\00:08:55.02 of the evangelistic program in Phnom Penh. 00:08:55.05\00:08:58.20 They work under the direction of three district pastors 00:08:58.23\00:09:02.25 and the district pastors were training them everyday. 00:09:02.28\00:09:05.77 Here with the mission, we were training everyday. 00:09:05.80\00:09:08.11 One hour, two hours the morning, 00:09:08.14\00:09:09.80 in the afternoons, in the evenings, 00:09:09.83\00:09:11.89 especially they would be out 00:09:11.92\00:09:13.61 and that's where they would get 00:09:13.64\00:09:15.43 their Bible studies, they contact. 00:09:15.46\00:09:18.06 By the time we had our first evangelistic program 00:09:18.09\00:09:21.68 in Phnom Penh we had about 2,500 people 00:09:21.71\00:09:25.68 studying the Bible at that time. 00:09:25.71\00:09:27.70 With the training that these lay Bible workers received 00:09:34.61\00:09:38.30 and through the support that has been provided by ASAP 00:09:38.33\00:09:42.51 many have now become powerful church planters for Christ. 00:09:42.54\00:09:47.13 Listen, as some of these new workers for Jesus 00:09:47.16\00:09:50.68 tell their story. 00:09:50.71\00:09:51.79 If you compare my life now 00:09:57.34\00:09:59.09 to my life before I became a Christian, 00:09:59.12\00:10:01.64 it is as different as the sky is from the earth. 00:10:01.67\00:10:05.96 I was a soldier and used to be very greedy, 00:10:05.99\00:10:09.48 but God has completely changed me. 00:10:09.51\00:10:12.24 He has turned my greediness 00:10:12.27\00:10:13.83 into satisfaction for what I have. 00:10:13.86\00:10:16.20 He has turned my hopelessness and sorrow into real joy. 00:10:16.23\00:10:21.23 Now all I want to do is 00:10:21.26\00:10:22.73 serve Him energetically for the rest of my life. 00:10:22.76\00:10:26.84 I thank God for the opportunity to be a church planter. 00:10:26.87\00:10:30.97 I love to tell others about the joy and peace 00:10:31.00\00:10:33.92 that God has brought to my heart. 00:10:33.95\00:10:36.22 He has now worked some of the same miracles 00:10:36.25\00:10:38.72 in the lives of my friends and neighbors. 00:10:38.75\00:10:42.08 We have witnessed the power of God, 00:10:42.11\00:10:43.99 cast out demons and healed the sick. 00:10:44.02\00:10:46.82 Please pray for us as we now start 00:10:46.85\00:10:49.22 many new groups in our area. 00:10:49.25\00:10:51.11 I first began to know God 00:10:54.01\00:10:55.48 when my husband fell sick with cancer. 00:10:55.51\00:10:58.77 We had tried everything but he had gotten better. 00:10:58.80\00:11:01.72 My husband knew about the God of heaven 00:11:01.75\00:11:03.98 and together we prayed 00:11:04.01\00:11:05.43 that He would send someone to help us. 00:11:05.46\00:11:09.03 It was shortly after that prayer 00:11:09.06\00:11:10.66 that Pastor Hondura and his wife 00:11:10.69\00:11:12.89 started coming to our home. 00:11:12.92\00:11:15.09 They told us more about the true God 00:11:15.12\00:11:17.05 and then prayed for my husband. 00:11:17.08\00:11:19.65 And answer to that prayer I am so happy to say 00:11:19.68\00:11:22.56 that my husband got better. 00:11:22.59\00:11:25.06 I realized that the God of heaven 00:11:25.09\00:11:27.00 is much more powerful than any other god or medicine. 00:11:27.03\00:11:32.32 I decided to give my life to Him 00:11:32.35\00:11:34.59 and I have followed His ways ever since. 00:11:34.62\00:11:38.00 I also have decided 00:11:38.03\00:11:39.33 that I want to serve Him for the rest of my life 00:11:39.36\00:11:42.17 and to spread the good news throughout Cambodia 00:11:42.20\00:11:45.36 with all my heart and strength. 00:11:45.39\00:11:48.31 I have become a church planter for God 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.77 and with Him is my partner. 00:11:50.80\00:11:52.34 I have started eight small groups 00:11:52.37\00:11:54.57 as well as three larger groups. 00:11:54.60\00:11:57.17 It brings me the greatest joy 00:11:57.20\00:11:59.02 when I see my students accept God 00:11:59.05\00:12:01.39 and believe in Him. 00:12:01.42\00:12:03.47 Today, we have 90 baptized members in our groups 00:12:03.50\00:12:07.23 and many more who are still learning about Him. 00:12:07.26\00:12:10.22 I am extremely happy to serve Him. 00:12:10.25\00:12:13.10 Before I became a Christian I was a taxi driver. 00:12:18.22\00:12:21.55 One day I gave a ride 00:12:21.58\00:12:22.83 to a Seventh-day Adventist pastor. 00:12:22.86\00:12:25.62 As we traveled together he told me about Jesus 00:12:25.65\00:12:28.28 and invited me to come to his church on Sabbath. 00:12:28.31\00:12:32.93 God came into my heart and changed me. 00:12:32.96\00:12:35.63 I used to speak with rudeness to people 00:12:35.66\00:12:37.90 but with the peace of God in my heart 00:12:37.93\00:12:40.19 I now speak with kindness and respect. 00:12:40.22\00:12:43.25 I was so happy that I decided that 00:12:43.28\00:12:45.62 I want to become a fulltime worker for God 00:12:45.65\00:12:48.45 and tell many people about how God has changed my life. 00:12:48.48\00:12:53.70 The people in my district are very poor. 00:12:53.73\00:12:56.32 They have to work hard just to make enough money to eat, 00:12:56.35\00:12:59.51 so they do not have a lot of time to study. 00:12:59.54\00:13:02.71 Many of them have to travel 00:13:02.74\00:13:03.90 all of the way into the city to find work 00:13:03.93\00:13:06.50 and they do not get home until late. 00:13:06.53\00:13:08.77 But then God gave me the idea 00:13:08.80\00:13:10.95 to start some small industries right here in their village 00:13:10.98\00:13:14.53 so that I could talk to them about God as we work together. 00:13:14.56\00:13:20.33 In one of our industries we make charcoal. 00:13:20.36\00:13:23.29 Poor people all over Cambodia 00:13:23.32\00:13:25.34 who cannot afford expensive medicines 00:13:25.37\00:13:28.00 have discovered the many ways 00:13:28.03\00:13:29.43 that charcoal can help with certain illnesses 00:13:29.46\00:13:33.69 and they place their orders with us. 00:13:33.72\00:13:37.69 In this small village on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, 00:13:37.72\00:13:41.63 our group has now grown to 44 members 00:13:41.66\00:13:44.71 and we are no longer able to fit 00:13:44.74\00:13:46.50 into our small place of worship. 00:13:46.53\00:13:49.17 Please pray for us that we will be able to buy a piece of land 00:13:49.20\00:13:52.57 and build a church for God's new believers in this area. 00:13:52.60\00:13:56.58 I was a business woman and sold clothes in the market. 00:13:59.64\00:14:04.36 Even though I was a devote Buddhist 00:14:04.39\00:14:06.11 and kept all of the ceremonies, 00:14:06.14\00:14:08.05 I still had so much sorrow in my life. 00:14:08.08\00:14:11.60 A woman used to come and visit me 00:14:11.63\00:14:13.23 and as we became friends, 00:14:13.26\00:14:14.69 I noticed that she was very happy. 00:14:14.72\00:14:17.83 When I asked her why she was so happy, 00:14:17.86\00:14:20.61 she told me about Jesus and His love for us. 00:14:20.64\00:14:24.04 She gave me a song book 00:14:24.07\00:14:25.25 that had many songs about Jesus. 00:14:25.28\00:14:27.99 As I learned to sing those songs 00:14:28.02\00:14:29.69 I gave my heart to Jesus 00:14:29.72\00:14:31.56 and the Holy Spirit took all my sadness away. 00:14:31.59\00:14:35.99 I decided that I wanted to work for God. 00:14:36.02\00:14:39.34 I began by volunteering as a literacy teacher 00:14:39.37\00:14:42.19 helping my neighbors to learn how to read. 00:14:42.22\00:14:45.45 Then one day in church I heard the pastor announced 00:14:45.48\00:14:48.07 that the mission was looking for people 00:14:48.10\00:14:49.79 to apply for positions as church planters. 00:14:49.82\00:14:53.87 I was very happy to begin my training 00:14:53.90\00:14:55.95 and start many Bible studies in my neighborhood. 00:14:55.98\00:14:59.59 The people here are very busy trying to work 00:14:59.62\00:15:02.76 at many different jobs to make a living, 00:15:02.79\00:15:05.89 but they still make time for me 00:15:05.92\00:15:07.85 when I come to visit them. 00:15:07.88\00:15:10.15 We study the Bible together and then we have prayer. 00:15:10.18\00:15:14.64 So many of them are infected with HIV 00:15:14.67\00:15:17.97 and they always ask me to pray 00:15:18.00\00:15:19.80 that God will preserve their health. 00:15:19.83\00:15:22.71 They also pray for peace in their family and rice to eat. 00:15:22.74\00:15:27.28 I wish to thank our ASAP family in the USA 00:15:27.31\00:15:31.11 that are helping to sponsor God's work here in Cambodia. 00:15:31.14\00:15:35.39 Please pray for me as I visit the people here. 00:15:35.42\00:15:38.48 I want the people to know the kind of peace and joy 00:15:38.51\00:15:41.59 that I've found in Jesus. 00:15:41.62\00:15:43.96 By God's grace I want to rise up many more small groups. 00:15:43.99\00:15:47.87 Before I became a Christian I used to smoke and drink 00:15:50.81\00:15:53.72 and I was not very kind to my wife. 00:15:53.75\00:15:57.10 But then a lay Bible worker started visiting our home 00:15:57.13\00:16:00.74 and told us about the God of heaven. 00:16:00.77\00:16:03.97 After I accepted Jesus in my heart my life changed 00:16:04.00\00:16:07.86 and I became a new person. 00:16:07.89\00:16:10.46 Now I've become a church planter 00:16:10.49\00:16:13.12 and I live and work here in this district of Phnom Penh. 00:16:13.15\00:16:17.59 The people who live here are very poor, 00:16:17.62\00:16:20.10 but I have found that they are hungry 00:16:20.13\00:16:22.35 for a message of hope and peace. 00:16:22.38\00:16:25.09 I visit them, I make friends with them, 00:16:25.12\00:16:27.86 I leave them tracks to read 00:16:27.89\00:16:29.75 and then I come back and ask them 00:16:29.78\00:16:31.69 if they have any questions about what they have read. 00:16:31.72\00:16:35.30 Many people have accepted Jesus and have been baptized. 00:16:35.33\00:16:39.19 Please pray for the poor people here in this neighborhood. 00:16:39.22\00:16:42.38 They really need the love of God in their lives. 00:16:42.41\00:16:44.95 One of the things that stand out in my mind 00:16:51.54\00:16:53.88 about my last visit to Cambodia 00:16:53.91\00:16:56.45 was the slums of Phnom Penh. 00:16:56.48\00:16:59.34 I honestly have never seen such terrible conditions. 00:16:59.37\00:17:03.39 The slums are nestled right in the middle of the city. 00:17:03.42\00:17:08.11 I remember walking down 00:17:08.14\00:17:09.46 these narrow alleys with these two pastors. 00:17:09.49\00:17:12.95 The smell, the poverty was so overwhelming. 00:17:12.98\00:17:17.06 I followed the pastors as they went 00:17:17.09\00:17:19.42 into the small dark little church. 00:17:19.45\00:17:23.18 There were a lot of people sitting in the church, 00:17:23.21\00:17:26.43 but the thing that impressed me the most 00:17:26.46\00:17:28.55 was their expressions on their faces 00:17:28.58\00:17:31.05 and how much they love Jesus. 00:17:31.08\00:17:33.75 They were singing the songs with great love and great joy, 00:17:33.78\00:17:37.19 yet as I looked at their faces 00:17:37.22\00:17:39.22 I can see that they suffer very much. 00:17:39.25\00:17:41.80 Many of them 00:17:41.83\00:17:42.86 probably don't have enough food to eat in a day. 00:17:42.89\00:17:46.27 I looked at one mother, they are sitting in the church 00:17:46.30\00:17:49.49 feeding her baby and I can see that 00:17:49.52\00:17:52.26 what she was feeding looked like rice water. 00:17:52.29\00:17:56.13 Later I asked this mother what she fed her baby 00:17:56.16\00:17:59.75 and she said that 00:17:59.78\00:18:00.81 because she doesn't have enough food herself, 00:18:00.84\00:18:03.95 she doesn't have any milk to feed the baby 00:18:03.98\00:18:06.60 therefore she's trying to give the baby rice water. 00:18:06.63\00:18:10.34 The pastors, the Bible workers in this area 00:18:10.37\00:18:14.01 have a lot of compassion for their people. 00:18:14.04\00:18:17.07 They don't have much funds, that they are appealing to us 00:18:17.10\00:18:21.29 to help them to have some rice for the children, to have milk 00:18:21.32\00:18:26.17 and formula to give the destitute 00:18:26.20\00:18:28.35 suffering malnourished children and babies. 00:18:28.38\00:18:31.44 They are asking us for help 00:18:31.47\00:18:33.47 and this is our opportunity to show God's love to them. 00:18:33.50\00:18:37.36 In one of the poor slum areas where I was at, 00:18:43.05\00:18:45.95 I noticed this little girl 00:18:45.98\00:18:47.67 holding her baby brother on her hip. 00:18:47.70\00:18:51.04 The expression on her face was a great sadness 00:18:51.07\00:18:55.07 and so I asked the lay Bible worker about this little girl, 00:18:55.10\00:18:58.54 he told me that her mother had been a lady 00:18:58.57\00:19:01.05 that had become a strong believer in God 00:19:01.08\00:19:03.66 and she had always brought the little girl 00:19:03.69\00:19:05.68 and the baby to the church 00:19:05.71\00:19:07.50 but the mother had gotten a disease 00:19:07.53\00:19:10.10 and suddenly passed away. 00:19:10.13\00:19:11.65 The father did not know what to do, 00:19:11.68\00:19:13.72 not having any relatives in the area 00:19:13.75\00:19:16.32 and so he left this little girl for ten hours a day 00:19:16.35\00:19:19.83 to take care of her baby brother. 00:19:19.86\00:19:22.19 And I could see that she really love this baby 00:19:22.22\00:19:25.99 that she was doing everything she could 00:19:26.02\00:19:27.77 to take care of the baby, 00:19:27.80\00:19:29.63 yet the baby was dirty, she was dirty, 00:19:29.66\00:19:32.10 their clothes were just threadbare clothes 00:19:32.13\00:19:35.39 and I thought to myself, 00:19:35.42\00:19:36.77 how can this little girl take care of this baby brother. 00:19:36.80\00:19:40.34 And it was then that kind church members 00:19:40.37\00:19:43.48 offer to put their merger money together 00:19:43.51\00:19:47.00 to buy some formula for the baby. 00:19:47.03\00:19:49.37 Without this help the baby would not have lived. 00:19:49.40\00:19:52.67 I would really like to thank our donors 00:19:52.70\00:19:54.57 who have so generously given 00:19:54.60\00:19:56.70 to help destitute hungry people have rice to eat. 00:19:56.73\00:20:00.33 Especially at this time we are seeing terrible floods 00:20:00.36\00:20:03.74 devastate the rice harvest. 00:20:03.77\00:20:05.80 Seventy percent of rice fields in Cambodia 00:20:05.83\00:20:09.01 have been destroyed by the floods this fall 00:20:09.04\00:20:11.94 and so we are so grateful for the help 00:20:11.97\00:20:15.14 that our donors have been able to give 00:20:15.17\00:20:17.21 to provide rice and food for hungry flood victims 00:20:17.24\00:20:21.34 and also for children and the poor of Phnom Penh. 00:20:21.37\00:20:25.75 ASAP continues to have a very strong 00:20:25.78\00:20:29.28 supportive role in Cambodia. 00:20:29.31\00:20:32.41 We just finished the ASAP board meeting 00:20:32.44\00:20:34.84 and we've ordered 00:20:34.87\00:20:35.94 over a $170,000 for this coming year. 00:20:35.97\00:20:38.88 Now just because we've voted it, 00:20:38.91\00:20:39.96 it doesn't mean that the money is there. 00:20:39.99\00:20:41.25 We depend on, on viewers 00:20:41.28\00:20:43.53 and we depend on supporters 00:20:43.56\00:20:45.31 to send in their monthly contributions 00:20:45.34\00:20:47.49 to help these things take place. 00:20:47.52\00:20:49.42 Well, some other things that are coming up, 00:20:49.45\00:20:51.42 church planters, 00:20:51.45\00:20:52.48 a big portion of the money goes to church planters 00:20:52.51\00:20:56.03 who will go to the village or to work in various parts 00:20:56.06\00:20:59.77 of un-entered areas in Phnom Penh. 00:20:59.80\00:21:02.33 It continues to supply Bibles, Bible lessons, song books 00:21:02.36\00:21:07.98 so that the new believers have access to information 00:21:08.01\00:21:11.16 about Jesus Christ 00:21:11.19\00:21:12.79 and we continue to help with evangelism, 00:21:12.82\00:21:15.42 public evangelism. 00:21:15.45\00:21:16.48 So it's very much focused on bringing people, 00:21:16.51\00:21:19.72 the good news about Jesus Christ. 00:21:19.75\00:21:21.79 I just hold up my hands, you know, sometimes 00:21:21.82\00:21:24.24 I think you know, what's happening. 00:21:24.27\00:21:26.54 We can't keep up with it. 00:21:26.57\00:21:28.71 The work is progressing so fast, so quickly 00:21:28.74\00:21:32.55 that it outstripping the administer ability 00:21:32.58\00:21:35.30 to take care of everything. 00:21:35.33\00:21:36.95 And so there's an enormous burden on the administration 00:21:36.98\00:21:41.69 to try and devise ways and means 00:21:41.72\00:21:44.48 of keeping within a relatively small budget 00:21:44.51\00:21:47.84 which we can maintain and caring for the people 00:21:47.87\00:21:52.28 who come into the church. 00:21:52.31\00:21:53.98 Through ASAP of course this has meant 00:21:54.01\00:21:56.39 that we've been able to finance a lot of things 00:21:56.42\00:22:00.11 which we would not have financed, 00:22:00.14\00:22:02.35 had we not have that money. 00:22:02.38\00:22:04.01 We can't be thankful enough to the donors, 00:22:04.04\00:22:07.84 the support to the mission. 00:22:07.87\00:22:09.57 Sixty percent of our total budget 00:22:09.60\00:22:11.95 comes from donors overseas. 00:22:11.98\00:22:14.27 To support the church planters 00:22:14.30\00:22:16.11 is our greatest need at this time. 00:22:16.14\00:22:18.82 And that currently we have about 00:22:18.85\00:22:19.98 80 church planters in the country. 00:22:20.01\00:22:22.20 I hope that we don't have to drop 00:22:22.23\00:22:24.67 any of the church planters 00:22:24.70\00:22:25.85 because they are forming the backbone of our outreach 00:22:25.88\00:22:29.26 under the district leaders. 00:22:29.29\00:22:30.63 We only have 12 district pastors 00:22:30.66\00:22:33.12 and that's not a bad number to work with 00:22:33.15\00:22:35.68 and that's the number Jesus started with. 00:22:35.71\00:22:38.05 But what we want to try and do 00:22:38.08\00:22:39.46 is with each of those district pastors 00:22:39.49\00:22:42.02 placed 10 church planters under their direction, 00:22:42.05\00:22:45.03 so that each pastor will have responsibility for training, 00:22:45.06\00:22:48.82 10 to 12 church planters. 00:22:48.85\00:22:51.70 Those church planters will be responsible 00:22:51.73\00:22:54.93 for up to 10 small groups that they can work with. 00:22:54.96\00:22:58.32 And so this way 00:22:58.35\00:22:59.85 with a small co-work force of district pastors 00:22:59.88\00:23:03.41 larger group of church planters 00:23:03.44\00:23:05.69 we can cover 1,200 groups under this particular scheme 00:23:05.72\00:23:09.69 without adding too much of a burden 00:23:09.72\00:23:12.56 on the financial budget. 00:23:12.59\00:23:14.43 So that's the sort of scope we're working at, 00:23:14.46\00:23:16.77 it means a lot of hard work 00:23:16.80\00:23:18.16 but the people are ready for it. 00:23:18.19\00:23:21.15 The newly baptized people, they are anxious to get on. 00:23:21.18\00:23:24.09 There's a tremendous enthusiasm for developing the work. 00:23:24.12\00:23:29.24 So, yes, thank you very much for all the donations. 00:23:29.27\00:23:32.79 Every penny that is sent 00:23:32.82\00:23:34.85 is put straight into the project 00:23:34.88\00:23:36.76 that is designated for 00:23:36.79\00:23:37.98 and it gives you tremendous encouragement to know 00:23:38.01\00:23:41.74 that you have that backing. 00:23:41.77\00:23:43.10 Hi. 00:23:46.81\00:23:47.84 I'm the new development director at ASAP 00:23:47.87\00:23:50.78 but I'm not new to ASAP. 00:23:50.81\00:23:53.10 I grew up in Thailand helping in the refugee camps 00:23:53.13\00:23:56.00 right along side my parents. 00:23:56.03\00:23:58.10 I remember the act the giving was an everyday part of living 00:23:58.13\00:24:02.31 since my mom Judy Aitken had us kids 00:24:02.34\00:24:04.64 regularly involved in passing out Bibles, 00:24:04.67\00:24:07.74 clothes and food to those in need. 00:24:07.77\00:24:11.35 But it wasn't until my sophomore year in college 00:24:11.38\00:24:14.29 that my passion for ASAP's ministry grew 00:24:14.32\00:24:17.70 because of the trip I made back to Cambodia. 00:24:17.73\00:24:20.90 On that trip it amazed me 00:24:20.93\00:24:23.67 to see the same Cambodian pastors 00:24:23.70\00:24:26.25 that I knew when I was a little girl 00:24:26.28\00:24:28.25 in those Thai refugee camps 00:24:28.28\00:24:30.46 now working throughout their home country 00:24:30.49\00:24:33.19 leading a swift growing movement for Christ. 00:24:33.22\00:24:36.30 I realized that if it weren't for God 00:24:36.33\00:24:38.84 working through ASAP, 00:24:38.87\00:24:40.75 these pastors along with 50 lay Bible workers 00:24:40.78\00:24:44.01 and 70 church planters 00:24:44.04\00:24:46.06 would not have the incredible opportunity 00:24:46.09\00:24:48.57 of spreading God's love to the 11 million people 00:24:48.60\00:24:52.67 in their predominantly Buddhist country. 00:24:52.70\00:24:55.82 Please pray for these pastors and church planters 00:24:55.85\00:24:58.99 as they prepare for a wave of evangelistic meetings 00:24:59.02\00:25:02.18 that will take place this December. 00:25:02.21\00:25:05.00 I think it's very appropriate 00:25:05.03\00:25:06.72 that on ASAP's 10th year anniversary, 00:25:06.75\00:25:10.19 these Cambodian church planters 00:25:10.22\00:25:12.18 prayerfully set a goal of planting 00:25:12.21\00:25:14.50 10 new churches each this year 00:25:14.53\00:25:17.47 that 700 churches planted. 00:25:17.50\00:25:20.38 You know, my heart is touched each day 00:25:20.41\00:25:22.91 by miracles happening in Cambodia. 00:25:22.94\00:25:25.71 I get chills each time I hear of a child 00:25:25.74\00:25:28.61 given the chance to learn how to read for the first time 00:25:28.64\00:25:31.91 because of the literacy schools 00:25:31.94\00:25:33.70 ASAP help sponsored or receiving her first Bible 00:25:33.73\00:25:37.89 or surrendering her life to Jesus 00:25:37.92\00:25:40.72 because ASAP is so essential 00:25:40.75\00:25:43.58 to the spreading of the gospel in Cambodia 00:25:43.61\00:25:46.49 and other countries in Southeast Asia. 00:25:46.52\00:25:49.27 We can be proud to say 00:25:49.30\00:25:50.95 we support it with our prayers and funds. 00:25:50.98\00:25:54.52 Did you know you can provide a Bible 00:25:54.55\00:25:56.97 for one of these new believers in Cambodia for only $5? 00:25:57.00\00:26:01.68 Our church planters hope to receive 35,000 Bibles 00:26:01.71\00:26:05.05 this year to share with their new members. 00:26:05.08\00:26:07.59 It cost $100 a month to sponsor to one church planter, 00:26:07.62\00:26:11.57 making it possible for them to spread Jesus love 00:26:11.60\00:26:14.82 and only $550 to build a whole church. 00:26:14.85\00:26:18.79 I invite each of you watching to join the ASAP family today 00:26:18.82\00:26:23.83 and make a huge difference for Christ. 00:26:23.86\00:26:26.82 I would love to get to know you 00:26:26.85\00:26:28.95 and help you get to know 00:26:28.98\00:26:30.82 that joy of changing lives for eternity. 00:26:30.85\00:26:33.87 The rapid growth of the church in Cambodia is truly inspiring. 00:26:40.95\00:26:46.00 It is almost as though a parable of Jesus 00:26:46.03\00:26:49.02 has turned into a prophecy 00:26:49.05\00:26:51.50 and He's having a remarkable fulfillment 00:26:51.53\00:26:54.02 in the slums of Phnom Penh. 00:26:54.05\00:26:57.33 One day as Jesus sat at the table 00:26:57.36\00:26:59.89 in the home of a prominent Pharisee 00:26:59.92\00:27:02.47 He told a story of a wealthy man 00:27:02.50\00:27:04.90 who decided to have a banquet and invite his friends. 00:27:04.93\00:27:09.34 When all of his friends refused the invitation 00:27:09.37\00:27:12.34 because they were too busy to come 00:27:12.37\00:27:15.03 the wealthy man said to his servant 00:27:15.06\00:27:17.31 go quickly into the streets and alleys 00:27:17.34\00:27:19.81 and bring in the poor, the crippled, 00:27:19.84\00:27:22.95 the blind and the lame. 00:27:22.98\00:27:25.13 As we witness the poor and disabled of Cambodia 00:27:25.16\00:27:29.01 responding with eagerness 00:27:29.04\00:27:31.00 to the invitation to heavens banquet table 00:27:31.03\00:27:34.78 may we be inspired to partner with the ASAP church planters 00:27:34.81\00:27:39.83 with our prayers and support. 00:27:39.86\00:27:43.38 To find out more about the exiting things 00:27:43.41\00:27:46.09 that are happening in Southeast Asia 00:27:46.12\00:27:48.81 and to find out what you can do 00:27:48.84\00:27:50.44 to help God's workers in Cambodia,
