Well, hi again. 00:00:16.18\00:00:17.51 We're on the final stretch for today. 00:00:17.91\00:00:19.78 Have you been blessed? 00:00:20.52\00:00:21.85 Praise the Lord. 00:00:22.78\00:00:24.12 I'm glad you're all here. 00:00:24.15\00:00:25.49 We are going to really motor. 00:00:26.52\00:00:28.39 I would like to try and finish the notes on Revelation 5 00:00:29.39\00:00:33.53 in our last session today. 00:00:34.13\00:00:35.83 It begins on page 29. 00:00:36.30\00:00:38.33 So we'll have a word of prayer 00:00:39.03\00:00:40.37 and then we'll get right into our study. 00:00:40.40\00:00:42.04 I'm going to follow the lesson pretty closely 00:00:42.07\00:00:44.04 because I want everybody to understand all of the details 00:00:44.71\00:00:47.84 because they're very important for what we're going to study 00:00:47.88\00:00:50.21 concerning the 24 elders. 00:00:50.25\00:00:51.61 So let's pray. 00:00:51.65\00:00:52.98 Father in heaven, we come before Your throne again 00:00:53.11\00:00:56.02 with humility, realizing that our knowledge is very limited. 00:00:56.05\00:01:00.16 Therefore, we need Your wisdom. 00:01:00.76\00:01:02.46 I ask, Lord, that You will speak to us through Your Word, 00:01:02.82\00:01:06.19 that Your Holy Spirit will be present in our midst 00:01:06.63\00:01:09.33 to open our understanding. 00:01:09.36\00:01:11.07 And we thank You for being with us. 00:01:11.50\00:01:13.94 In the precious name of Jesus, amen. 00:01:14.47\00:01:17.14 The central theme, we're on page 29, the central theme 00:01:19.71\00:01:23.61 of Revelation chapter 5 is the arrival of Jesus 00:01:24.11\00:01:28.45 to the heavenly throne room for the celebration 00:01:28.98\00:01:32.52 of His victory on earth. 00:01:32.55\00:01:34.92 Now we need to ask the question, first of all, 00:01:35.59\00:01:38.23 is Revelation 5 describing a judgment scene? 00:01:38.56\00:01:42.46 Because some believe that Revelation 5 is dealing with 00:01:42.50\00:01:46.63 the beginning of the investigative judgment in 1844, 00:01:46.67\00:01:50.17 and that it is transpiring in the Most Holy Place. 00:01:50.51\00:01:53.84 So that's the first thing that we want to ask the question, 00:01:53.88\00:01:56.88 is Revelation 4 and 5 dealing with the beginning of the 00:01:56.91\00:02:00.18 investigative judgment in 1844? 00:02:00.22\00:02:02.52 Or is it dealing with the inauguration of Christ in 00:02:02.55\00:02:07.29 the Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary upon His ascension? 00:02:07.32\00:02:11.06 So that's this section that we're going to notice now. 00:02:11.63\00:02:15.03 Some have noted that Revelation 4 and 5 00:02:15.66\00:02:18.47 bears a close resemblance to Daniel 7. 00:02:19.00\00:02:22.54 Which Daniel 7 is dealing with the beginning 00:02:23.24\00:02:26.27 of the investigative judgment in heaven. 00:02:26.31\00:02:28.21 However, there are also significant differences. 00:02:28.68\00:02:32.11 Daniel 7:9 tells us that thrones were put in place. 00:02:32.98\00:02:38.55 But Revelation 4:2 states that the thrones were already there. 00:02:38.89\00:02:44.66 That's one difference. 00:02:44.69\00:02:46.26 Daniel 7:10 explains that books, plural, were opened, 00:02:47.00\00:02:52.03 while Revelation 5:1 refers to a book, singular, that was sealed. 00:02:52.57\00:02:58.77 You can't have a bigger difference than books open 00:02:58.81\00:03:02.01 and a book that is sealed. 00:03:02.04\00:03:03.55 Daniel 7 describes Jesus as the Son of Man, 00:03:04.31\00:03:07.62 while Revelation 5:6 describes Him as a slain Lamb. 00:03:08.58\00:03:13.52 Revelation does not portray Jesus as a lion 00:03:14.36\00:03:17.56 until He has finished breaking the seals and opens the scroll. 00:03:17.59\00:03:22.50 Some have thought that Revelation 4 and 5 00:03:23.67\00:03:25.97 describe the beginning of the investigative judgment 00:03:26.70\00:03:29.60 in heaven in 1844. 00:03:29.64\00:03:31.74 The problem with this idea is that there is no judgment 00:03:32.37\00:03:35.24 language in chapters 4 and 5. 00:03:35.28\00:03:38.01 The language of the songs in Revelation 4 centers upon the 00:03:38.41\00:03:43.08 Father as Creator. 00:03:43.12\00:03:44.92 And in chapter 5 the emphasis falls upon Jesus as Redeemer. 00:03:45.39\00:03:50.89 Revelation 19:1-2 tells us that all heaven will sing 00:03:51.49\00:03:56.16 the judgment song after God has judged and punished 00:03:56.93\00:04:00.74 the great harlot who shed the blood of the saints. 00:04:00.77\00:04:04.01 So are you noticing the discrepancies or differences 00:04:04.11\00:04:07.78 between Revelation 4 and 5 and Daniel chapter 7? 00:04:07.81\00:04:11.75 Now the next paragraph gives us additional evidence that 00:04:13.62\00:04:17.15 we're not dealing with 1844 in Revelation 4 and 5. 00:04:17.19\00:04:20.76 Never in judgment scenes do we find jubilatory singing 00:04:21.22\00:04:26.73 such as we find in chapters 4 and 5. 00:04:27.06\00:04:29.63 That is, in judgment scenes. 00:04:31.17\00:04:33.07 During judgment scenes, there is generally silence in heaven. 00:04:33.10\00:04:37.57 For instance, in Daniel 7 which is speaking about the judgment, 00:04:38.07\00:04:42.04 there is no singing when the judgment sits 00:04:42.14\00:04:45.31 and the books are opened. 00:04:45.35\00:04:46.88 Furthermore, during the judgment scene in Revelation 20:11-15, 00:04:47.65\00:04:52.25 which deals with the judgment of the wicked after the millennium, 00:04:52.29\00:04:55.49 there is silence once again in heaven and on earth. 00:04:55.69\00:04:59.56 In addition, Revelation 5 mentions only one book 00:05:00.20\00:05:03.73 which Jesus does not open until all seven seals have been broken 00:05:04.27\00:05:08.54 and Jesus breaks the final seal at the second coming. 00:05:09.14\00:05:12.41 The opening of the books does not take place until 00:05:12.94\00:05:16.85 the post-millennial judgment. 00:05:16.88\00:05:19.78 Are you following me so far? 00:05:20.28\00:05:21.68 During the period, and here comes an additional evidence, 00:05:22.78\00:05:25.69 during the period of the fifth seal, the judgment 00:05:26.02\00:05:29.62 has not yet occurred. 00:05:29.66\00:05:30.99 So how can you say the introductory vision 00:05:31.03\00:05:32.79 is a vision of the judgment if at the moment of the fifth seal 00:05:32.83\00:05:36.10 the judgment hasn't even begun yet. 00:05:36.13\00:05:38.20 We know this because the souls under the altar, 00:05:38.67\00:05:41.90 and we're going to study this in detail, 00:05:41.94\00:05:43.67 are crying out to God that He will judge 00:05:43.71\00:05:46.98 and avenge their blood. 00:05:47.01\00:05:48.44 So has the judgment been transpiring 00:05:49.28\00:05:51.71 during the first four seals and in the fifth seal? 00:05:51.75\00:05:54.75 No, because the martyrs are crying out that God judge 00:05:54.78\00:05:58.52 and avenge them. 00:05:58.55\00:05:59.89 So obviously the judgment has not taken place. 00:05:59.92\00:06:02.26 Clearly, the judgment must transpire after the fifth seal, 00:06:02.76\00:06:07.00 not before. 00:06:07.10\00:06:08.43 In fact, we will see that the pre-advent judgment process 00:06:08.76\00:06:13.20 did not begin until after the signs in the 00:06:13.40\00:06:16.94 sun, moon, and stars in Revelation 6:12-13. 00:06:16.97\00:06:20.94 Furthermore, the judgment execution will not take place 00:06:21.44\00:06:25.68 until we get to chapter 19:1-2. 00:06:25.98\00:06:28.85 Are you understanding these points? 00:06:28.88\00:06:30.55 In other words, Revelation 4 and 5 00:06:31.92\00:06:35.59 is not talking about the beginning of the 00:06:35.62\00:06:37.99 investigative judgment in heaven. 00:06:38.03\00:06:39.69 Because at the fifth seal the judgment has not 00:06:40.30\00:06:42.96 taken place yet, because the martyrs are crying out 00:06:43.00\00:06:45.43 that God do them justice. 00:06:45.47\00:06:47.30 Now the next paragraph. 00:06:48.00\00:06:49.47 Revelation 5 portrays Jesus as a slain lamb 00:06:49.50\00:06:53.64 who has resurrected from the dead. 00:06:54.14\00:06:56.48 He comes fresh from the battlefield to the 00:06:57.05\00:06:59.31 presence of the Father. 00:06:59.35\00:07:00.68 The tense of the verb, "have been slain," 00:07:01.38\00:07:04.62 describes an action that began in the past 00:07:05.05\00:07:07.79 but whose results remain in the present. 00:07:07.99\00:07:11.33 Ellen White explains, "Christ is our Mediator and officiating 00:07:11.99\00:07:18.27 High Priest in the presence of the Father." 00:07:18.30\00:07:21.50 "Christ is our mediator and officiating High Priest 00:07:23.41\00:07:27.48 in the presence of the Father. 00:07:27.51\00:07:29.04 He was shown to John as a lamb that had been slain, 00:07:29.44\00:07:34.08 as in the very act of pouring out His blood 00:07:34.75\00:07:38.79 in the sinner's behalf." 00:07:38.82\00:07:40.19 So let me ask you, has Jesus just shortly before died 00:07:41.22\00:07:45.39 when He goes to present Himself for this scene 00:07:45.73\00:07:48.50 in Revelation chapter 5? 00:07:48.53\00:07:49.86 Yeah, the wounds are still what? 00:07:50.50\00:07:52.27 The wounds are still fresh on His body. 00:07:53.07\00:07:55.50 So it can't refer to the beginning of the 00:07:55.70\00:07:57.31 investigative judgment. 00:07:57.34\00:07:58.71 It must refer to coming from the battlefield 00:07:58.74\00:08:02.04 where He still has the wounds fresh on His body. 00:08:02.24\00:08:05.58 In contrast, Revelation 6:16-17, 14:14-20, and Daniel 7:13-14 00:08:06.82\00:08:16.46 describe Jesus as the Lion, not as the Lamb 00:08:16.66\00:08:21.26 who had been slain, fresh wounds on His body. 00:08:21.63\00:08:24.90 But these judgment scenes present Jesus as the Lion 00:08:25.10\00:08:28.84 or the Son of Man who comes to claim His kingdom. 00:08:28.87\00:08:32.77 Thus Daniel 7 and Revelation 4 and 5 00:08:33.27\00:08:36.04 describe different historical contexts 00:08:36.14\00:08:39.11 where the same beings are present. 00:08:39.15\00:08:40.88 And the reason why some people say that Revelation 4 and 5 00:08:40.98\00:08:44.82 is dealing with the investigative judgment 00:08:44.85\00:08:46.79 is because you have many similarities. 00:08:46.99\00:08:49.36 You know, in both you have a throne, 00:08:49.76\00:08:52.53 you have thrones, in both you have the angels that are 00:08:52.56\00:08:57.27 present, in both there's reference to records, and so on. 00:08:57.30\00:09:01.70 And so they say, "See, it's talking about 00:09:01.94\00:09:03.61 the investigative judgment." 00:09:03.64\00:09:04.97 So why are the same beings present in Daniel 7 00:09:05.14\00:09:09.24 as the beings that were present in Revelation 4 and 5? 00:09:09.28\00:09:12.81 The reason is very simple. 00:09:12.85\00:09:14.48 In 1844 all of those who were in the Holy Place 00:09:15.58\00:09:19.82 moved to the Most Holy Place. 00:09:19.85\00:09:21.36 That's why you have the same beings. 00:09:21.69\00:09:23.02 You have the throne, you have the thrones, 00:09:23.06\00:09:24.59 the Father sitting on the throne, the books open. 00:09:24.63\00:09:26.70 Because the entire entourage that is in the Holy Place 00:09:26.73\00:09:30.33 when Jesus went there now moves to the Most Holy Place. 00:09:30.37\00:09:33.64 That's the reason why you have similarities 00:09:33.67\00:09:35.57 in the personnel that is there. 00:09:35.90\00:09:37.91 But it doesn't mean that it's referring 00:09:38.01\00:09:39.87 to the same historical occasion. 00:09:39.91\00:09:42.58 So far so good? 00:09:43.28\00:09:44.61 Now let's go to page 31 and do a verse by verse study 00:09:44.88\00:09:49.92 of chapter 5. 00:09:49.95\00:09:51.29 Verses 1 and 2, "And I saw in the right hand of Him 00:09:51.89\00:09:56.06 who sat on the throne a scroll..." 00:09:56.09\00:09:58.73 Some version translate it, book. 00:09:59.43\00:10:01.46 But they wrote in scrolls back then. 00:10:02.00\00:10:04.30 "...written inside and on the back, 00:10:04.40\00:10:07.87 sealed with seven seals. 00:10:07.90\00:10:10.44 Then I saw a strong angel..." 00:10:10.64\00:10:12.57 This is an important detail. 00:10:12.77\00:10:14.34 We'll see a little bit later on. 00:10:14.64\00:10:16.14 "Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, 00:10:16.64\00:10:19.98 'Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?'" 00:10:20.02\00:10:25.65 At this point Jesus has not arrived in heaven yet. 00:10:25.69\00:10:28.82 The word, "worthy," means, qualify. 00:10:29.66\00:10:31.79 Who is qualified to break the seals and open the book? 00:10:31.83\00:10:36.70 Who has the necessary qualifications that authorizes 00:10:37.07\00:10:40.54 Him to break the seals and to open the book? 00:10:40.57\00:10:44.11 And you'll notice here several verses 00:10:44.44\00:10:46.34 where the same word, "worthy," is used. 00:10:46.64\00:10:49.84 Matthew 10:10, the worker is worthy of his salary. 00:10:49.88\00:10:54.88 Luke 12:48, did not commit things worthy of stripes. 00:10:54.92\00:11:01.26 Luke 15:19, the prodigal son acted in an unworthy manner. 00:11:01.29\00:11:06.86 Revelation 16:6, the wicked who drink the blood have 00:11:06.90\00:11:10.37 earned the right to do so because of their actions. 00:11:10.40\00:11:14.00 Acts 26:31, Paul committed nothing worthy of death. 00:11:14.04\00:11:18.87 So the question that's being asked here 00:11:18.91\00:11:21.31 is, who has the necessary qualifications, 00:11:21.61\00:11:24.31 who has performed the necessary actions, 00:11:24.51\00:11:27.85 to make it possible to break the seals 00:11:27.88\00:11:29.82 and to open the book to reveal the contents of the book? 00:11:30.05\00:11:33.96 And now a crisis of universal proportions ensues. 00:11:34.56\00:11:39.83 Let's go to verse 3. 00:11:39.86\00:11:41.36 "And no one in heaven..." 00:11:41.76\00:11:44.37 The worthy person could open the book and read its contents 00:11:54.08\00:11:58.11 only when the seven seals had been broken. 00:11:58.21\00:12:01.25 In other words, the seals have to be broken first, 00:12:01.28\00:12:03.59 and then the scroll can be opened to reveals the contents 00:12:03.89\00:12:07.26 of the scroll. 00:12:07.29\00:12:08.62 A crisis of universal proportions ensues because 00:12:08.76\00:12:13.40 there's no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth 00:12:13.43\00:12:18.80 who is qualified to break the seals 00:12:19.17\00:12:21.37 and open the book or the scroll and read its contents. 00:12:21.64\00:12:25.97 Now, this is an important point. 00:12:27.01\00:12:28.68 John was not so much concerned with the breaking of the seals 00:12:29.24\00:12:34.02 as he was with the contents of the scroll. 00:12:34.88\00:12:38.52 You know, we're going to find that basically what the 00:12:39.55\00:12:42.19 scroll contains is the entire history of the world 00:12:42.22\00:12:44.89 from beginning to end. 00:12:44.93\00:12:46.26 Had John already seen the history of the Christian church? 00:12:46.29\00:12:49.16 In the seven churches he had already seen the 00:12:49.36\00:12:51.00 history of the Christian church. 00:12:51.03\00:12:52.37 His curiosity is not, "I want to know more of the 00:12:52.40\00:12:54.60 history of the Christian church." 00:12:54.64\00:12:55.97 There's something about this book that if it isn't opened, 00:12:56.00\00:12:59.77 it will be calamitous. 00:12:59.81\00:13:01.54 John's tears were not tears of curiosity, 00:13:02.31\00:13:05.28 they were tears of desperation and supreme agony. 00:13:05.65\00:13:09.22 The book contained information of life and death importance, 00:13:09.65\00:13:14.06 yet there was no one who was worthy to break the seals 00:13:14.56\00:13:17.69 and to open the book. 00:13:17.99\00:13:19.36 Not Moses who died and was taken to heaven, 00:13:19.69\00:13:23.73 not Elijah who was translated to heaven from among the living, 00:13:23.77\00:13:28.24 not Enoch who was also translated, 00:13:28.27\00:13:30.84 not the representatives of the worlds, 00:13:31.34\00:13:33.98 not the cherubim, not the seraphim, not the angels, 00:13:34.01\00:13:38.11 not even God the Father Himself was qualified to break 00:13:38.15\00:13:42.72 the seals and to open the scroll. 00:13:42.75\00:13:45.05 And so John says, "If this scroll isn't opened, 00:13:45.69\00:13:49.96 it is a calamity of universal proportions." 00:13:50.79\00:13:54.33 So what does John do now? 00:13:54.36\00:13:56.00 Verse 4. 00:13:56.20\00:13:57.53 At this point has Jesus arrived yet? 00:14:07.14\00:14:09.28 Has Jesus arrived yet? 00:14:10.38\00:14:11.71 No. Because He is worthy. 00:14:11.91\00:14:13.92 So no one was found in heaven-worthy. 00:14:14.58\00:14:16.89 This is another evidence that this is talking about 00:14:17.12\00:14:20.09 the ascension of Christ and His installation as High Priest. 00:14:20.12\00:14:23.32 Are you with me? 00:14:24.03\00:14:25.36 Now the Greek word, "wept," is very intense. 00:14:26.16\00:14:28.70 There are several Greek words for crying, for weeping. 00:14:28.73\00:14:33.50 This is a very intense word. 00:14:33.67\00:14:35.60 Luke 8:52 uses it to describe weeping over the 00:14:35.97\00:14:40.58 death of Jairus' daughter. 00:14:40.61\00:14:42.54 Luke 22:62 uses the word to describe Peter's weeping 00:14:43.24\00:14:47.58 after he went out and he wept bitterly 00:14:47.62\00:14:50.05 because he had denied Jesus a third time. 00:14:50.15\00:14:52.55 It's used in Luke 19:41 which describes the weeping of Jesus 00:14:53.09\00:14:57.69 over Jerusalem as He descended the Mount of Olives 00:14:57.73\00:15:00.26 towards the city. 00:15:00.30\00:15:01.63 And it's a very intense word that is used in 00:15:01.76\00:15:03.67 Revelation 18:9, 11, 15, and 19 to describe the weeping 00:15:03.70\00:15:09.10 and wailing of the capitalists in the world 00:15:09.14\00:15:14.14 when Babylon falls apart and the world economy implodes. 00:15:14.18\00:15:18.61 So in other words, John isn't simply just shedding 00:15:18.95\00:15:21.98 a little tear here and there. 00:15:22.02\00:15:23.69 John is weeping in a loud voice saying, if no one is found 00:15:23.79\00:15:29.42 to break the seals and open the scroll, 00:15:29.46\00:15:32.46 that is a calamity of universal proportions. 00:15:32.89\00:15:35.90 But now comes the good news, verse 5. 00:15:36.70\00:15:38.93 Unfortunately, many times translations are a problem 00:15:50.15\00:15:55.32 because they don't translate the same word 00:15:55.35\00:15:57.19 the same way all the time. 00:15:57.22\00:15:58.69 That word, "prevail," is the word, "overcome." 00:15:58.95\00:16:02.16 It's the identical word, "He who overcomes..." 00:16:03.32\00:16:05.69 Jesus overcame and sat with His Father on His throne. 00:16:05.73\00:16:09.06 So it says that the Lion of the tribe of Judah, 00:16:09.26\00:16:13.34 the Root of David has overcome. 00:16:13.37\00:16:15.87 Where did He overcome? 00:16:16.10\00:16:17.51 On earth He overcame. 00:16:19.27\00:16:21.01 By the way, it's the same word that is used in John 16:33 00:16:21.44\00:16:24.95 where it speaks about Jesus having overcome the world. 00:16:24.98\00:16:28.52 Now it says, He overcame. 00:16:28.78\00:16:30.85 And then it says, "to open." That's future tense. 00:16:31.32\00:16:34.39 So what gives Jesus the right to break the seals 00:16:34.96\00:16:38.86 and open the scroll? 00:16:38.89\00:16:40.23 The fact that He overcame. 00:16:40.76\00:16:42.26 The fact that on earth He lived a perfect life, 00:16:42.83\00:16:45.77 and He died for sin. 00:16:46.03\00:16:47.60 Could the Father say that? 00:16:48.80\00:16:50.31 No. He wasn't qualified. 00:16:51.01\00:16:53.11 God is all-powerful, the Father is all-powerful, 00:16:53.54\00:16:56.04 but He wasn't qualified. 00:16:56.08\00:16:57.41 Because in order to be qualified to break the seals 00:16:57.65\00:17:00.82 and open the scroll, you had to be a human being 00:17:00.85\00:17:04.45 who never sinned and who paid the price for redemption. 00:17:04.85\00:17:09.36 So it says... 00:17:09.89\00:17:11.23 Let's read the note. 00:17:24.77\00:17:26.11 In ancient Israel, kings came from the tribe of Judah. 00:17:26.14\00:17:29.74 And Jesus is the Root and Offspring of David 00:17:30.35\00:17:33.62 and the Lion of the tribe of Judah. 00:17:33.65\00:17:36.05 Now this is very important. 00:17:37.29\00:17:39.02 Jesus, who is now the saving Lamb, will become a Lion 00:17:39.32\00:17:43.83 when He finally opens the scroll. 00:17:43.86\00:17:46.16 In other words, the Lamb will become a Lion. 00:17:47.90\00:17:50.07 Let me ask you, is a lamb a menace to human beings? 00:17:51.23\00:17:56.04 A dangerous animal? No. 00:17:56.50\00:17:58.37 But the lion is. 00:17:59.01\00:18:00.48 So at some point the Lamb is going to become a what? 00:18:01.54\00:18:04.31 A Lion. 00:18:04.91\00:18:06.25 Incidentally, have you ever read Revelation 6 00:18:06.48\00:18:09.15 where it says, "The great day of His wrath has come; 00:18:09.75\00:18:12.92 and who will be able to stand?" 00:18:12.95\00:18:14.29 And right before that it says the individuals on earth 00:18:14.32\00:18:17.56 who are lost are hiding in the caves and crying for the 00:18:17.59\00:18:20.30 rocks to fall on them. 00:18:20.33\00:18:21.66 They say, "Hide us from the wrath of the Lamb." 00:18:21.70\00:18:24.70 How many of you have seen a wrathful lamb? 00:18:24.73\00:18:26.74 Well, the Lamb has become a what? 00:18:27.14\00:18:29.54 Has become a Lion to those who trampled upon God's law. 00:18:29.84\00:18:34.14 So let's continue here. 00:18:34.18\00:18:35.51 In this context Revelation 6:16-17 00:18:35.74\00:18:39.51 is significant because these words which I just referred to 00:18:39.61\00:18:43.59 paradoxically describe the Lamb as a wrathful Lamb. 00:18:43.62\00:18:47.66 That is to say, the Lamb has taken over the characteristics 00:18:48.12\00:18:50.93 of the Lion. 00:18:50.96\00:18:52.29 The slain Lamb comes on the clouds of heaven, 00:18:52.33\00:18:54.70 and the Son of Man comes to execute judgment. 00:18:54.90\00:18:59.17 So Jesus will open the scroll when He takes over the kingdom. 00:19:00.24\00:19:03.20 Let's notice this statement from Ellen White 00:19:03.24\00:19:05.37 about the Lamb and the Lion. 00:19:05.41\00:19:07.38 "The Savior is presented before John under the symbols 00:19:08.28\00:19:12.11 of the Lion of the tribe of Judah and of the Lamb 00:19:12.15\00:19:16.28 as if it had been slain. 00:19:16.32\00:19:18.02 These symbols represent the union of omnipotent power 00:19:18.59\00:19:23.29 and self-sacrificing love. 00:19:23.76\00:19:26.09 The Lion of Judah, so terrible to..." Whom? 00:19:27.40\00:19:30.77 "...to the rejectors of His grace will be the Lamb 00:19:31.60\00:19:35.77 of God to the obedient and faithful. 00:19:35.80\00:19:38.14 The pillar of fire that speaks terror and wrath to the 00:19:39.77\00:19:42.74 transgressor of God's law is a token of light and mercy 00:19:42.78\00:19:46.85 and deliverance to those who have kept His commandments." 00:19:46.88\00:19:50.25 You know you go to the edge of the Red Sea, 00:19:50.39\00:19:52.52 the pillar of fire was a terror to the Egyptians. 00:19:53.22\00:19:56.22 But it was a source of comfort for the children of Israel. 00:19:56.86\00:19:59.93 She continues, "The arm strong to smite the rebellious 00:20:00.63\00:20:04.10 will be strong to deliver the loyal. 00:20:04.30\00:20:07.47 Everyone who is faithful will be saved." 00:20:07.84\00:20:11.71 Beautiful statement, isn't it? 00:20:12.14\00:20:13.71 We find this other statement, "As the Lion of Judah, 00:20:14.41\00:20:16.98 Christ will defend His chosen ones 00:20:17.01\00:20:19.31 and bring them off victorious because they accepted Him 00:20:19.71\00:20:24.92 'as the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.'" 00:20:24.95\00:20:28.79 If You don't accept Jesus as a Lamb, you will have to 00:20:28.82\00:20:32.06 face Him as a Lion. 00:20:32.09\00:20:33.43 That's what Ellen White is saying here. 00:20:34.66\00:20:37.13 Incidentally, in different terms Jesus said, 00:20:37.70\00:20:41.40 he who allows the fire of the Holy Spirit to consume sin 00:20:41.60\00:20:44.61 will be saved, but if you don't allow the Holy Spirit 00:20:44.64\00:20:47.18 to consume sin, then God's fire will consume you. 00:20:47.21\00:20:50.38 Jesus said he who falls on the rock will be broken, 00:20:51.78\00:20:54.62 but if you don't fall on the rock, the rock will crush you. 00:20:54.65\00:20:57.62 He said it in Matthew chapter 21. 00:20:57.89\00:20:59.65 So basically, what this is saying is that we must accept 00:21:00.22\00:21:04.93 Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, 00:21:04.96\00:21:07.63 and then we'll have no fear because the Lion 00:21:07.83\00:21:09.73 will be a protecting Lion. 00:21:09.76\00:21:11.13 The Lion will not be a destructive Lion. 00:21:11.47\00:21:14.47 As previously noted, middle of page 33, 00:21:15.37\00:21:18.07 the book of Hebrews emphasizes the priestly role of Jesus 00:21:18.71\00:21:22.24 while the book of Revelation underlines His role as King. 00:21:22.44\00:21:27.18 We must understand, and we've already looked at this, 00:21:27.85\00:21:30.62 Revelation 5:5 in the context of Revelation 3:21. 00:21:30.89\00:21:35.42 In fact, Revelation 5:5 expands upon the last part of verse 21. 00:21:35.86\00:21:40.86 After Jesus overcame, John saw Him break the seals 00:21:41.30\00:21:44.77 one by one and finally open the scroll. 00:21:44.80\00:21:47.50 He was qualified to do this because He, what? 00:21:47.87\00:21:51.14 Because He overcame. 00:21:51.47\00:21:52.84 Now let's go to verse 6. 00:21:53.51\00:21:55.04 Was He there before? 00:22:10.16\00:22:11.49 No, because there was no one in heaven, 00:22:12.99\00:22:14.86 or on earth, or under the earth 00:22:14.90\00:22:16.53 that could break the seals and open the scroll. 00:22:16.56\00:22:18.67 Obviously He wasn't there before. 00:22:18.70\00:22:20.20 But now he sees this Lamb standing there, 00:22:20.94\00:22:24.44 a Lamb as though it had been slain. 00:22:24.64\00:22:26.24 The wounds are fresh on His body, 00:22:26.54\00:22:28.21 He's come from the battlefield. 00:22:28.24\00:22:29.78 He's victorious. 00:22:29.81\00:22:31.25 Having seven horns. 00:22:32.21\00:22:34.05 We'll interpret that in a few moments. 00:22:34.08\00:22:36.25 Seven eyes represent that He's all, what? 00:22:36.28\00:22:38.99 He is all wise. 00:22:39.19\00:22:41.06 Eyes in Scripture represent wisdom. 00:22:41.39\00:22:43.59 Let me ask you, what animal represents wisdom? 00:22:44.19\00:22:46.59 The owl. 00:22:47.56\00:22:48.90 Why is the owl used as a sign of wisdom? 00:22:49.46\00:22:51.67 You know, my son's border collie is smarter than an owl. 00:22:51.70\00:22:55.47 And serpents are wise. 00:22:56.84\00:22:58.77 But an owl? 00:22:59.14\00:23:00.48 Why is an owl a symbol of wisdom. 00:23:00.74\00:23:02.98 Because of the great big eyes it has. 00:23:03.18\00:23:05.25 Because eyes represent wisdom. 00:23:05.28\00:23:07.22 Seven means totality. 00:23:07.25\00:23:08.85 Jesus has total wisdom. 00:23:08.88\00:23:10.55 And the seven horns represent total power, omnipotent power. 00:23:11.32\00:23:17.26 We're going to see that when we read the note. 00:23:17.29\00:23:19.36 So it says he has seven horns, seven eyes, which are the 00:23:19.39\00:23:23.60 seven spirits of God. 00:23:23.63\00:23:25.23 Now, what happens? 00:23:25.77\00:23:27.10 The seven lamps of fire that were there before the throne, 00:23:27.14\00:23:30.44 now they are sent where? 00:23:30.84\00:23:33.11 To the earth. 00:23:33.54\00:23:34.88 When is it that the Holy Spirit was sent to the earth? 00:23:34.91\00:23:37.18 It was after Jesus ascended to heaven 00:23:39.48\00:23:41.88 on the day of Pentecost. Right? 00:23:41.92\00:23:44.29 So this is talking about what happened 00:23:44.82\00:23:46.32 on the day of Pentecost. 00:23:46.35\00:23:47.82 Page 34, the top of the page. 00:23:48.62\00:23:50.59 When John saw the Lamb, the wounds on His body 00:23:50.63\00:23:54.36 were still fresh. 00:23:54.40\00:23:55.73 He had just come from the battlefield and 00:23:56.26\00:23:58.13 had the wounds to prove it. 00:23:58.17\00:23:59.97 He was standing in the midst of the throne because 00:24:00.40\00:24:02.64 kings and priests stood at their anointing. 00:24:02.67\00:24:06.21 So Jesus, at this point, is going to be anointed 00:24:07.78\00:24:09.94 to be the High Priest. 00:24:09.98\00:24:11.31 And priests and kings were standing 00:24:12.11\00:24:15.35 when they were anointed. 00:24:15.38\00:24:17.09 The seven horns are actually the glorious rays 00:24:17.62\00:24:20.59 of the sun that shine forth from the Lamb's crown 00:24:20.62\00:24:24.23 representing His almighty power as King of the kingdom of grace. 00:24:24.63\00:24:29.43 You know, let's go to the book of Habakkuk chapter 3. 00:24:30.93\00:24:33.90 This is an interesting detail. Habakkuk chapter 3. 00:24:33.94\00:24:37.44 And Habakkuk is one of those books that's not easy to find. 00:24:38.51\00:24:43.01 Is Habakkuk in the Bible? 00:24:43.04\00:24:44.88 Have you ever heard a sermon on Habakkuk? 00:24:45.75\00:24:47.88 It's magnificent book. 00:24:49.05\00:24:51.09 Tremendous description of the second coming in chapter 3. 00:24:51.19\00:24:54.52 Notice chapter 3. 00:24:55.02\00:24:56.36 This is describing the second coming of Christ. 00:24:56.99\00:24:59.73 I'm reading from the New King James. 00:25:00.80\00:25:03.77 Do you know how the King James Version translates this? 00:25:13.88\00:25:16.68 The King James Version says, "His brightness was like the 00:25:16.88\00:25:21.48 light and He had horns flashing from His side." 00:25:21.52\00:25:25.59 You say, "Now what is the relationship between horns 00:25:27.02\00:25:30.23 and rays?" 00:25:30.83\00:25:32.16 Well the fact is, have you ever noticed what the crown 00:25:32.19\00:25:34.90 of a king looks like? 00:25:34.93\00:25:36.26 It has little horns. 00:25:36.77\00:25:38.33 And so the King James says horns, but really it means rays. 00:25:39.80\00:25:43.71 Because the rays, you know, they look like the 00:25:43.74\00:25:46.51 tips of a crown. 00:25:46.54\00:25:48.44 And so, there is hidden, what? 00:25:49.01\00:25:50.75 It says in verse 4, "There His power was hidden." 00:25:51.38\00:25:55.12 Why does the light, why do the rays of light, 00:25:55.15\00:25:59.09 or the horns come from the side of the hands 00:25:59.12\00:26:01.92 of the person who is coming in Habakkuk chapter 3? 00:26:01.96\00:26:04.66 Because Ellen White explains in, Great Controversy, 00:26:05.33\00:26:07.33 and you have the reference there, that when Jesus comes, 00:26:07.36\00:26:10.17 glorious rays are coming out from the wounds in His hands 00:26:10.20\00:26:14.30 and the wounds in His side. 00:26:14.34\00:26:16.34 So the seven eyes represent fullness of wisdom 00:26:16.54\00:26:20.11 and the seven horns represent fullness of power, 00:26:20.14\00:26:22.91 according to Habakkuk 3:4. 00:26:22.94\00:26:26.78 Now let me read you this statement from 00:26:27.62\00:26:29.68 the spirit of prophecy, Acts of the Apostles, page 38 00:26:29.72\00:26:32.75 about the anointing of Jesus when He went to heaven. 00:26:34.52\00:26:36.96 "Christ's ascension to heaven was the signal 00:26:37.36\00:26:39.59 that His followers were to receive the promised blessing. 00:26:40.50\00:26:43.37 For this, they were to wait before they 00:26:43.93\00:26:46.40 entered upon their work. 00:26:46.43\00:26:47.90 When Christ passed within the heavenly gates, 00:26:48.40\00:26:51.21 He was enthroned..." 00:26:51.54\00:26:53.21 Ah, interesting. Enthroned. 00:26:53.41\00:26:55.94 In Revelation 4 and 5, He's standing 00:26:56.38\00:26:58.75 there before the Father. 00:26:58.78\00:27:00.12 But then what happens? 00:27:00.52\00:27:01.85 He sits on the throne, we read in Revelation 3:21. 00:27:01.88\00:27:04.85 So it says, "...He was enthroned amidst the adoration of angels. 00:27:04.89\00:27:08.22 As soon as this ceremony was completed..." 00:27:08.59\00:27:11.39 What happened? 00:27:12.49\00:27:13.83 "...the Holy Spirit descended..." 00:27:14.46\00:27:16.83 That's the seven spirits that are sent to the earth. 00:27:16.87\00:27:19.53 "...the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples 00:27:19.90\00:27:22.44 in rich currents, and Christ was indeed glorified, 00:27:22.47\00:27:26.31 even with the glory that He had with the Father 00:27:26.34\00:27:28.61 from all eternity. 00:27:28.64\00:27:30.15 The Pentecostal outpouring was heaven's communication 00:27:30.68\00:27:34.75 that the Redeemer's inauguration was accomplished." 00:27:34.78\00:27:38.42 In other words, He was anointed to be King in 00:27:39.82\00:27:42.59 the kingdom of grace, High Priest, and then 00:27:42.82\00:27:47.63 He sits on the throne. 00:27:48.23\00:27:49.56 And this is His inauguration, according to this. 00:27:49.60\00:27:51.93 According to His promise, He," that is the Father, 00:27:52.93\00:27:56.50 had sent the Holy Spirit from heaven to His followers 00:27:56.54\00:27:59.77 as a token that He had, as..." What? 00:28:00.08\00:28:03.71 "...Priest and King, received..." What? 00:28:05.01\00:28:08.52 "...all authority in heaven and on earth, 00:28:08.75\00:28:11.42 and was the Anointed One over His people." 00:28:11.62\00:28:14.72 Isn't that a significant statement? 00:28:16.19\00:28:18.19 So what did Jesus become when He went to heaven? 00:28:19.33\00:28:21.46 Priest, and what? 00:28:23.37\00:28:24.90 Priest and King. 00:28:25.43\00:28:26.94 Was He anointed to be both? 00:28:27.17\00:28:29.00 Were priests anointed? 00:28:30.24\00:28:31.67 Yes. Were kings anointed? 00:28:32.37\00:28:34.04 Yes. What were they anointed with? 00:28:34.24\00:28:36.28 With oil. 00:28:37.45\00:28:38.78 And by the way, when you look at the ceremony 00:28:38.98\00:28:41.08 in the Old Testament of the anointing of Aaron 00:28:41.12\00:28:43.25 as the high priest, you find in Leviticus chapter 8... 00:28:43.28\00:28:47.52 It's amazing. I didn't put it in the notes. 00:28:47.56\00:28:49.42 But, you know, you need to connect also Psalm 133. 00:28:49.46\00:28:53.40 What happened was that the oil that was poured on the head 00:28:54.46\00:28:58.97 of Aaron was so abundant that it was actually poured on his head, 00:28:59.00\00:29:04.44 it dripped down his beard, down his garments, 00:29:05.21\00:29:08.74 all the way down to Mount Zion. 00:29:08.78\00:29:10.55 What does that mean? 00:29:11.91\00:29:13.25 That Jesus received the promise from His Father 00:29:13.28\00:29:15.35 the fullness of the Spirit. 00:29:15.38\00:29:16.92 And it was so abundant that it dripped down upon the disciples 00:29:17.22\00:29:20.32 who were gathered in the upper room. 00:29:20.36\00:29:22.02 So the seven spirits that are sent to the earth 00:29:23.19\00:29:28.23 represent the fact that the Holy Spirit was poured out 00:29:28.53\00:29:31.43 without measure upon the disciples 00:29:31.47\00:29:33.54 on the day of Pentecost. 00:29:33.57\00:29:35.40 Now let's go to the bottom of page 34. 00:29:36.30\00:29:38.47 Verse 7. Now there's going to be movement. 00:29:38.77\00:29:41.74 See, now this Lamb as though it had been slain, 00:29:42.54\00:29:45.45 now He's going to approach the Father. 00:29:45.88\00:29:47.95 Did we read a statement from Ellen White where Jesus 00:29:48.05\00:29:50.32 approaches the Father and then they embrace? 00:29:50.35\00:29:52.75 Absolutely. She's not inventing this. 00:29:53.32\00:29:55.49 It's found there in principle in verse 7. 00:29:56.06\00:29:58.93 It says, "Then He came..." 00:29:59.03\00:30:00.86 Which means that He must not have been there before. 00:30:01.66\00:30:03.30 Hello. 00:30:03.33\00:30:04.67 "He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of 00:30:04.83\00:30:07.67 Him who sat on the throne." 00:30:07.70\00:30:10.21 The text tells us... This is the top of page 35. 00:30:11.11\00:30:13.58 The text tells us that Jesus came to the Father, 00:30:13.61\00:30:16.38 so He must not have been there before. 00:30:16.98\00:30:18.81 Up to this point, listen carefully, 00:30:19.51\00:30:21.95 there have been no songs in chapter 5. 00:30:22.68\00:30:25.35 Everything is in silence. 00:30:26.55\00:30:29.42 Is that what Ellen White said? 00:30:30.83\00:30:32.26 That all heaven was in silence. The Father said, "Sshhh." 00:30:33.80\00:30:37.43 And then Jesus comes and He approaches the Father. 00:30:37.83\00:30:39.97 Remember the statement from, Desire of Ages? 00:30:40.00\00:30:42.40 There's no singing. 00:30:42.94\00:30:44.27 And then they embrace. 00:30:44.64\00:30:45.97 And after they embrace, the Father says, 00:30:46.27\00:30:50.25 "Praise Him, all of you heavenly beings." 00:30:51.08\00:30:53.15 And there's an explosion of praise, 00:30:53.18\00:30:54.98 which we're going to notice comes in verse 9 and following. 00:30:55.35\00:30:58.25 So the text tells us that Jesus came to the Father, 00:30:58.92\00:31:01.62 so He must not have been there before. 00:31:01.66\00:31:03.69 Up to this point, there had been no songs in chapter 5. 00:31:04.16\00:31:07.33 All the beings that were present for the reception 00:31:07.66\00:31:10.47 of the War hero waited in suspense to see if someone 00:31:10.50\00:31:15.60 was worthy or qualified to break the seals and open the scroll. 00:31:15.64\00:31:21.01 Now we go to verse 8. 00:31:21.61\00:31:22.98 "...the four living creatures..." 00:31:25.98\00:31:27.48 That is the cherubim and seraphim. 00:31:27.78\00:31:29.58 "...the twenty-four elders..." 00:31:29.62\00:31:31.35 That is the representatives of the sinless worlds 00:31:31.55\00:31:34.06 of the universe. 00:31:34.09\00:31:35.42 You know, this might surprise you, but the 24 elders, 00:31:44.07\00:31:48.87 which we're going to see are the highest of angels 00:31:49.30\00:31:51.67 that represent the worlds, and the four living creatures, 00:31:51.71\00:31:55.78 which are the seraphim and cherubim, 00:31:55.81\00:31:57.58 They have an intercessory role. 00:31:57.88\00:31:59.88 They are the ones that present our prayers to Jesus 00:32:01.08\00:32:03.79 and Jesus to the Father. 00:32:03.82\00:32:05.15 You say, "What!" 00:32:05.62\00:32:06.96 Do you remember the dream that Jacob had? 00:32:07.26\00:32:10.09 What did Jacob see in his dream? 00:32:11.53\00:32:13.23 He saw a ladder. 00:32:14.36\00:32:15.70 Where was the ladder planted? 00:32:15.80\00:32:17.63 Solidly on earth. 00:32:18.57\00:32:20.10 And where did the top of the ladder reach? 00:32:20.64\00:32:22.90 Heaven. 00:32:23.20\00:32:24.54 And who was ascending and descending on the ladder 00:32:24.97\00:32:27.28 between earth and heaven? 00:32:27.31\00:32:28.64 The angels. What does the ladder represent? 00:32:28.98\00:32:31.55 Jesus. 00:32:32.31\00:32:33.65 John 1:51 say, "You will see heaven open and angels 00:32:33.68\00:32:36.95 ascending and descending upon the Son of Man." 00:32:36.99\00:32:39.49 So the angels bear our prayers to heaven 00:32:40.76\00:32:43.49 and they bring answers back to us. 00:32:43.53\00:32:45.59 You remember Daniel praying for wisdom to understand 00:32:47.00\00:32:50.17 the prophecy of the 2300 years, or the 2300 days? 00:32:50.20\00:32:53.67 Who did God send to give him an answer? 00:32:55.14\00:32:57.64 Gabriel. 00:32:58.14\00:32:59.47 Actually Gabriel says, "While you were just starting 00:32:59.84\00:33:02.78 to pray, I was on my way." 00:33:02.81\00:33:04.18 So the angels are much more important than what we realize. 00:33:05.61\00:33:09.55 They have an intercessory role. 00:33:09.85\00:33:12.22 Notice this statement from Ellen White, 00:33:12.25\00:33:13.82 Counsels to Teachers, page 110. 00:33:14.02\00:33:16.46 "Angels offer the smoke of the fragrant incense 00:33:16.49\00:33:20.30 for the praying saints." 00:33:20.33\00:33:22.63 Now Jesus is the absolute intercessor, 00:33:23.06\00:33:24.93 but the prayers are born to Christ 00:33:24.97\00:33:27.17 through the ministry of the angels. 00:33:27.27\00:33:29.04 And now that the Father and the Son have embraced, 00:33:29.37\00:33:32.67 now Ellen White says that the Father commands 00:33:32.77\00:33:35.08 the angelic host to praise. 00:33:35.11\00:33:36.68 Now it doesn't say that specifically in Revelation, 00:33:36.85\00:33:39.31 but the sequence is identical. 00:33:39.55\00:33:41.32 Now the heavenly beings are going to praise Jesus, 00:33:41.78\00:33:45.22 but the song is not going to be a song of creation 00:33:45.25\00:33:48.16 like in chapter 4 where the Father is by Himself. 00:33:48.19\00:33:50.89 The song is going to be a song of redemption, 00:33:51.09\00:33:54.56 because the Redeemer has arrived at the scene. 00:33:54.60\00:33:57.37 Let's notice verses 9-14. 00:33:57.73\00:33:59.83 Notice the tense; past tense. 00:34:11.48\00:34:13.18 And we're going to see there's a problem in translation here. 00:34:26.49\00:34:28.83 Actually, the proper translation is, "You have made them 00:34:28.86\00:34:32.77 kings and priests to our God. 00:34:33.03\00:34:34.67 And it says, the translation in the King James says, "And we..." 00:34:34.94\00:34:37.84 Really, the better translation is, "And they shall..." 00:34:37.94\00:34:40.81 Future. 00:34:41.44\00:34:42.78 "...reign on the earth." 00:34:42.81\00:34:44.31 In other words, they stand in the outer circle of the throne, 00:34:49.05\00:34:52.65 the creatures and the elders. 00:34:52.69\00:34:54.52 Now the hymn is in honor of the Redeemer, 00:35:07.50\00:35:09.27 because the Redeemer has arrived. 00:35:09.30\00:35:10.94 Notice, His death at this point is past. 00:35:14.04\00:35:16.38 Isn't it beautiful how Ellen White amplifies what we find 00:35:45.97\00:35:49.61 in Revelation chapter 5 00:35:49.64\00:35:51.25 in the last three pages of, Desire of Ages? 00:35:51.45\00:35:53.62 It makes it comes alive. 00:35:53.65\00:35:55.15 Now the mighty angel's two-fold question 00:35:56.85\00:35:59.29 will now receive an answer. 00:36:00.56\00:36:02.42 Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll, and why? 00:36:02.92\00:36:07.46 The Lamb can do it because He overcame and shed His blood 00:36:08.86\00:36:14.07 to redeem, that gives Him the ability to redeem, 00:36:14.64\00:36:20.01 or buy back the inheritance that Adam lost. 00:36:20.74\00:36:25.81 The word, "redeem," in Revelation 5:9 means, 00:36:26.48\00:36:30.79 to buy something back by paying a price. 00:36:30.82\00:36:34.02 In other words, it's kind of like a pawn shop. 00:36:35.02\00:36:37.33 You take something to the pawnshop. 00:36:38.06\00:36:40.10 And you have to pay a price to buy it back. 00:36:40.63\00:36:43.00 Well, man sold himself into slavery and sin. 00:36:43.26\00:36:46.33 Jesus has to pay the price to buy us back. 00:36:46.80\00:36:52.11 That's the idea of the word, "hagorazo," in Greek. 00:36:52.14\00:36:54.74 The word, "go'el," in Hebrew. 00:36:54.78\00:36:56.81 It translates the Greek work, "hagorazo." 00:36:57.55\00:37:00.72 Another related word is, "lutroo;" 1 Peter 1:19. 00:37:01.55\00:37:05.72 It has a similar meaning to go'el. 00:37:06.19\00:37:08.26 It means, to buy back by paying a price. 00:37:08.46\00:37:11.23 Did we already notice in Leviticus chapter 25 00:37:11.26\00:37:14.00 that a price had to be paid to buy back the lost inheritance? 00:37:14.33\00:37:18.23 And to buy the freedom of somebody that had 00:37:19.63\00:37:21.80 sold themselves into slavery. 00:37:21.84\00:37:23.51 Yeah, somebody had to pay a price, right? 00:37:23.54\00:37:25.41 A redemption price. 00:37:25.44\00:37:26.78 Those laws of redemption pointed forward to the fact that 00:37:26.81\00:37:30.55 Jesus had to become our next of kin, as we studied, 00:37:30.58\00:37:33.55 so that He could buy back our freedom, 00:37:33.78\00:37:36.69 and He could buy back the lost possession. 00:37:36.72\00:37:39.85 Now the question is, what did the book contain 00:37:40.69\00:37:46.29 that led John to weep bitterly, 00:37:47.00\00:37:49.76 that it would be a terrible calamity, 00:37:50.70\00:37:53.27 that the book would not be opened? 00:37:53.47\00:37:55.74 Well, let's notice the next section, the sealed book. 00:37:56.91\00:38:01.94 Of course, the big question is this: 00:38:03.18\00:38:05.11 What does the sealed book contain? 00:38:05.65\00:38:07.95 And why would it be so catastrophic for the book 00:38:08.22\00:38:11.95 to remain sealed? 00:38:11.99\00:38:13.36 While the book is sealed, no one can read its contents. 00:38:14.19\00:38:18.13 And there's an analogous case of this, which is Daniel 12:4, 00:38:18.89\00:38:22.56 where it says that Daniel was supposed to 00:38:22.60\00:38:25.43 seal the book until the time of the end. 00:38:25.70\00:38:27.37 What does that mean? 00:38:27.40\00:38:28.74 It means that the book could not be what? 00:38:28.77\00:38:30.51 It could not be fully understood because it was sealed. 00:38:30.94\00:38:33.61 But at the time of the end, what was going to happen? 00:38:33.91\00:38:36.04 The seal would be taken off the book of Daniel 00:38:36.31\00:38:38.68 and people could read and understand its contents. 00:38:38.71\00:38:41.52 We find some valuable information, 00:38:42.08\00:38:44.69 background information, in the book of Jeremiah 00:38:44.72\00:38:47.16 where we find a description of a title deed. 00:38:47.72\00:38:50.79 The title deed that the Israelites lost when they were 00:38:50.83\00:38:53.23 taken captive to Babylon. 00:38:53.36\00:38:55.10 The picture is thus: Adam forfeited the title deed 00:38:55.53\00:38:59.83 to the world, Satan claimed it, and only the Redeemer, 00:38:59.87\00:39:05.51 the go'el, could redeem it or buy it back. 00:39:05.54\00:39:08.88 The scroll contains the entire sweep 00:39:09.51\00:39:11.58 of the history of salvation. 00:39:11.61\00:39:13.25 When the Lion of the tribe of Judah finally opens the book, 00:39:13.92\00:39:17.15 the universe will see that only Jesus and His followers 00:39:17.72\00:39:21.29 have the legal right to the possession that Adam lost. 00:39:21.39\00:39:25.36 In other words, what you have in this book 00:39:25.53\00:39:28.26 is a will or a testament of the human race 00:39:28.56\00:39:32.67 that reveals who will inherit the lost possession 00:39:32.93\00:39:38.21 that Adam originally had which he forfeited by disobedience. 00:39:38.67\00:39:43.08 So what would happen if the scroll remained sealed? 00:39:43.28\00:39:47.42 It would never be revealed who is going to inherit? 00:39:48.52\00:39:51.72 Who is going to be saved, who has the right to be saved, 00:39:52.75\00:39:55.26 in other words. 00:39:55.29\00:39:56.62 Let's read some statements here, 00:39:57.09\00:39:59.09 we don't have time to read all of these statements, 00:39:59.13\00:40:01.36 written by scholars about the way in which wills or testaments 00:40:01.76\00:40:06.20 were written back in biblical times. 00:40:06.40\00:40:09.20 This is in the book by Ranko Stefanovic, 00:40:10.14\00:40:12.14 Revelation of Jesus Christ, page 197. 00:40:12.17\00:40:15.18 "In order to protect the contents of legal documents, 00:40:15.84\00:40:19.21 such as deeds of sale, contracts, wills, and letters, 00:40:19.25\00:40:23.59 a seal impression was normally made with a signet 00:40:23.92\00:40:27.19 or ring at the end of the written document. 00:40:27.22\00:40:30.46 The sealing thus functioned in place of a signature, 00:40:30.79\00:40:33.90 indicating authenticity, validity, authority, 00:40:34.33\00:40:38.17 ratification, or protection of the document. 00:40:38.20\00:40:41.40 In order to protect the contents against an inappropriate 00:40:41.87\00:40:45.51 disclosure, the document would be tied with threads, 00:40:45.54\00:40:49.58 and then the seal was impressed at the knots on the bullae; 00:40:49.98\00:40:53.52 that is a blob of clay, wax, or some other soft material, 00:40:53.55\00:40:57.69 which kept the papyrus scroll folded." 00:40:58.02\00:41:00.82 So you had kind of these threads, and then at the tip 00:41:00.86\00:41:03.99 where the two ends meet, a blob of wax 00:41:04.03\00:41:06.86 or clay would be placed to seal the deed or the document. 00:41:07.06\00:41:12.20 "An unbroken impression would indicate that the sealed 00:41:14.10\00:41:16.97 document had not been opened. 00:41:17.01\00:41:19.57 Only the owner could break the seals and disclose its content." 00:41:20.01\00:41:25.98 There's another statement that Ranko makes which is important. 00:41:27.02\00:41:32.55 "Archeologists have brought to light many documents 00:41:32.79\00:41:35.36 sealed with two to seven or more seals. 00:41:35.39\00:41:38.23 For instance, Roman law dictated that a will 00:41:38.73\00:41:41.73 or testament had to be sealed with a minimum of seven seals 00:41:41.76\00:41:46.40 of witnesses in order to render its contents valid, 00:41:46.43\00:41:49.90 although some evidence shows that more than seven seals 00:41:50.11\00:41:52.97 were used on occasion... 00:41:53.01\00:41:54.78 Like any sealed scroll of the time, the scroll of Revelation 5 00:41:55.14\00:41:59.15 appears rolled up, tied with a cord, and sealed along 00:41:59.18\00:42:04.12 the outside edge with seals of wax affixed at the knots. 00:42:04.22\00:42:09.42 As such, it could not be opened and its contents disclosed 00:42:10.09\00:42:14.96 until all of the seven seals were broken. 00:42:15.00\00:42:17.77 The breaking of all seven seals is preliminary and preparatory 00:42:18.40\00:42:22.87 to the actual opening of the scroll and the disclosure 00:42:22.90\00:42:26.91 of its contents." 00:42:26.94\00:42:28.28 Are you catching the picture? 00:42:28.31\00:42:29.64 So basically, this scroll is the will 00:42:30.01\00:42:33.15 or testament of the human race. 00:42:33.18\00:42:34.55 It shows who's going to inherit that which Adam lost, 00:42:34.58\00:42:37.45 and who is not going to inherit what Adam lost. 00:42:37.85\00:42:42.02 Now let's notice a couple of statements from Ellen White 00:42:42.42\00:42:46.73 where she corroborates this view. 00:42:46.76\00:42:48.86 At the bottom of page 38, in, Manuscript Releases, 00:42:49.86\00:42:53.64 volume 9, page 7, we find Ellen White's description of 00:42:53.67\00:42:58.14 what this book contains. 00:42:58.17\00:42:59.94 It actually contains the entire history of the human race, 00:42:59.97\00:43:03.14 and the decisions that people have made 00:43:04.15\00:43:06.38 within the course of history whether either for 00:43:06.41\00:43:09.58 or against the Lord. 00:43:09.62\00:43:10.95 It says there, "There in His open hand lay the book, 00:43:11.42\00:43:15.96 the roll of the history of God's providences, 00:43:16.32\00:43:20.36 the prophetic history of nations and the church." 00:43:20.63\00:43:24.17 So what does the scroll contain? 00:43:24.20\00:43:25.83 "...the prophetic history of nations and the church. 00:43:27.57\00:43:30.21 Herein was contained the divine utterances, 00:43:30.57\00:43:33.31 His authority, His commandments, His laws, the whole symbolic 00:43:33.34\00:43:37.91 counsel of the Eternal, and the history of all ruling 00:43:37.95\00:43:41.48 powers in the nations. 00:43:41.52\00:43:43.22 In symbolic language was contained in that roll 00:43:43.62\00:43:46.62 the influence of every nation, tongue, and people from the 00:43:46.72\00:43:50.73 beginning of earth's history to its close." 00:43:50.76\00:43:53.60 In other words, it contains the entire history 00:43:55.30\00:43:58.13 of the human race recorded. 00:43:58.17\00:44:00.04 And the decisions that people made within the course 00:44:00.34\00:44:03.51 of history which will reveal of they will inherit 00:44:03.54\00:44:06.37 what was lost or whether they will not recover what was lost. 00:44:06.41\00:44:09.84 Are you with me or not so far? 00:44:09.88\00:44:12.05 Now Ellen White also has another very important statement 00:44:13.35\00:44:16.55 where she actually specifies a specific event, 00:44:16.85\00:44:22.52 historical event, that was recorded in that scroll. 00:44:22.56\00:44:26.56 Notice, Christ's Object Lessons, page 294. 00:44:27.93\00:44:31.30 "Thus the Jewish leaders made their choice." 00:44:32.23\00:44:34.37 When they said, "Release unto us Barabbas. 00:44:34.40\00:44:37.37 We have no king but Caesar," Ellen White explains, 00:44:37.41\00:44:41.14 "Thus the Jewish leaders made their choice. 00:44:41.18\00:44:43.55 Their decision was registered in the book that John saw 00:44:44.05\00:44:48.45 in the hand of Him that sat upon the throne, 00:44:48.48\00:44:51.15 the book that no man could open." 00:44:51.35\00:44:53.39 So that particular historical event, she's describing only one 00:44:55.16\00:44:58.36 of all historical events that are in that book, 00:44:58.39\00:45:00.63 when they said, "Release unto us Barabbas," 00:45:00.83\00:45:03.83 and, "We have no king but Caesar," 00:45:04.30\00:45:06.23 their decision was written in this book. 00:45:06.67\00:45:09.34 And then she states this: 00:45:09.37\00:45:10.84 "In all its vindictiveness, this decision will 00:45:11.17\00:45:15.51 appear before them..." 00:45:15.54\00:45:17.15 Before whom? 00:45:17.81\00:45:19.15 The Jewish leaders. 00:45:19.45\00:45:20.78 "...will appear before them in the day when this book is 00:45:20.82\00:45:24.09 unsealed by the Lion of the tribe of Judah." 00:45:24.12\00:45:27.26 So are the Jewish leaders going to see the result of 00:45:27.29\00:45:30.33 their decision in the scroll? 00:45:30.36\00:45:32.29 Absolutely. 00:45:32.33\00:45:33.66 Now, what conclusions can we reach from this 00:45:33.70\00:45:35.76 very significant statement? 00:45:35.80\00:45:37.33 Let's notice the next paragraph. 00:45:38.27\00:45:40.00 Several important points emerge from this last statement. 00:45:40.57\00:45:44.11 Ellen White is writing this around the year 1900. 00:45:44.47\00:45:47.44 That's when, Christ's Object Lessons, was actually published. 00:45:47.48\00:45:50.45 It is clear that at that point the scroll was still sealed. 00:45:50.88\00:45:54.28 Would you agree with that? 00:45:54.32\00:45:55.65 The scroll was still sealed 00:45:55.75\00:45:57.12 when she wrote, Christ's Object Lessons? 00:45:57.15\00:45:58.55 Of course. She says when the book is opened. 00:45:58.59\00:46:01.36 So it hasn't been opened yet. 00:46:01.52\00:46:03.06 Furthermore, in order for those who cried out, 00:46:04.33\00:46:06.70 a very important point, "Release unto us Barabbas," 00:46:06.73\00:46:09.36 to see the consequences of the decision they made in the past, 00:46:09.70\00:46:13.37 they must what? 00:46:13.40\00:46:14.84 They must resurrect. 00:46:15.37\00:46:16.71 When would that be? 00:46:18.64\00:46:19.97 After the millennium. 00:46:22.54\00:46:24.18 Technically. 00:46:24.71\00:46:26.05 This means that the scroll will remain sealed 00:46:26.51\00:46:29.25 until they resurrect in the second resurrection 00:46:29.95\00:46:32.59 after the millennium. 00:46:32.62\00:46:33.99 So when is this scroll going to be opened, 00:46:35.29\00:46:38.89 the last seal broken and the scroll opened 00:46:38.93\00:46:41.63 before the whole world? 00:46:42.36\00:46:43.70 By the way, after the millennium, is everybody 00:46:44.47\00:46:46.67 who has ever lived outside the holy city? 00:46:46.70\00:46:48.87 Outside the city, are all of the wicked from all history there? 00:46:53.21\00:46:56.58 Yes. 00:46:56.91\00:46:58.25 Are all the redeemed in the city? 00:46:58.28\00:47:00.75 Is everyone in heaven and earth, under the earth, in the sea, 00:47:01.52\00:47:05.62 or whatever, there? 00:47:05.65\00:47:07.26 Yes. 00:47:07.46\00:47:08.79 And the last seal is broken and the scroll will be unfurled. 00:47:10.06\00:47:13.66 Have you ever read in the writings of Ellen White 00:47:13.70\00:47:15.40 about that great panoramic view above the holy city? 00:47:15.43\00:47:18.70 You know, this is before you had a wide screen, 00:47:20.24\00:47:22.87 you know, technology. 00:47:23.07\00:47:24.47 Ellen White says, in panoramic view God is going to show 00:47:25.14\00:47:28.71 the wicked, and the righteous who are inside the city, 00:47:28.74\00:47:32.71 the entire history of the human race. 00:47:32.95\00:47:35.45 Are you following me or not? 00:47:37.19\00:47:38.52 And inside the city are those who inherited, 00:47:39.05\00:47:41.86 recovered what was lost by Adam. 00:47:42.16\00:47:44.76 The meek will inherit the earth. 00:47:45.39\00:47:47.10 And we will be kings and priests, the Bible says. 00:47:47.96\00:47:51.23 But outside the holy city are including those individuals 00:47:52.27\00:47:56.07 who said, "Release unto us Barabbas." 00:47:56.10\00:47:58.41 So the scroll reveals who will inherit life 00:47:59.97\00:48:03.78 and who will inherit death, and the reason why 00:48:03.81\00:48:07.78 those inside the city receive life 00:48:07.82\00:48:10.62 and those outside the city receive death. 00:48:10.65\00:48:12.65 It's the last will and testament of the entire human race. 00:48:12.69\00:48:16.19 Now we know why John was so bent out of shape. 00:48:16.22\00:48:19.16 He said, "If this book isn't opened, nobody will inherit. 00:48:19.83\00:48:23.23 Everyone is lost. 00:48:23.26\00:48:24.60 We won't be able to know who's going to inherit 00:48:24.63\00:48:26.13 the lost possession." 00:48:26.17\00:48:27.50 Now Ellen White expands upon the moment when this will be opened. 00:48:27.54\00:48:30.54 And incidentally, let me just share this. 00:48:30.57\00:48:32.61 These records will be examined by God's people 00:48:32.94\00:48:35.78 during the thousand years. 00:48:35.81\00:48:37.25 Okay? 00:48:37.28\00:48:38.61 So in a certain sense, the scroll will be opened 00:48:38.65\00:48:41.68 before the righteous during the thousand years 00:48:41.72\00:48:44.85 for them to be able to see why the wicked were left behind. 00:48:45.05\00:48:49.06 But the opening of the scroll where the whole universe 00:48:49.39\00:48:51.96 is going to see it, both the living and those who died, 00:48:51.99\00:48:54.90 the righteous and the wicked, takes place at the end 00:48:55.10\00:48:57.60 of the thousand years. 00:48:57.63\00:48:58.97 Let me just read in closing this amazing passage 00:48:59.27\00:49:02.84 from Ellen White, Great Controversy, 00:49:02.87\00:49:04.77 where Ellen White describes the moment when 00:49:04.81\00:49:07.31 the will and testament of the human race 00:49:07.34\00:49:09.64 will be opened and it will be revealed 00:49:09.68\00:49:11.78 why the righteous were saved and why the wicked were lost. 00:49:11.81\00:49:15.68 This is in, Great Controversy, several pages, pages 666-669. 00:49:16.25\00:49:22.32 You'll never forget where the page begins, 666. 00:49:22.36\00:49:25.16 "Above the throne is revealed the cross; 00:49:27.60\00:49:30.50 and like a panoramic view..." 00:49:31.67\00:49:34.24 And I added, in high def. 00:49:34.34\00:49:36.27 "...appear the scenes of Adam's temptation and fall, 00:49:36.91\00:49:39.94 and the successive steps in the great plan of redemption." 00:49:40.48\00:49:43.78 Is that the whole of human history? 00:49:43.81\00:49:45.35 Yes. 00:49:45.75\00:49:47.08 "The Savior's lowly birth; His early life of simplicity 00:49:47.12\00:49:49.75 and obedience; His baptism in the Jordan; 00:49:49.78\00:49:51.82 the fast and temptation in the wilderness; 00:49:51.85\00:49:54.16 His public ministry, unfolding to men heaven's most precious 00:49:54.19\00:49:59.46 blessings; the days crowded with deeds of love and mercy, 00:49:59.49\00:50:02.96 the nights of prayer and watching in the solitude of 00:50:03.00\00:50:05.33 the mountains; the plotting of envy, hate, and malice 00:50:05.37\00:50:08.94 which repaid His benefits; the awful, mysterious agony in 00:50:08.97\00:50:12.71 Gethsemane beneath the crushing weight of the sins 00:50:12.74\00:50:15.98 of the whole world; His betrayal into the hands of the 00:50:16.01\00:50:18.68 murderous mob; the fearful events of that night of horror, 00:50:18.71\00:50:22.28 the unresisting prisoner, forsaken by His best loved 00:50:22.48\00:50:25.55 disciples, rudely hurried through the streets of 00:50:25.59\00:50:28.22 Jerusalem; the Son of God exultingly displayed before 00:50:28.26\00:50:32.23 Annas, arraigned in the high priest's palace, 00:50:32.26\00:50:35.96 in the judgment hall of Pilate..." 00:50:36.00\00:50:38.07 Are those the individuals who were present when 00:50:38.40\00:50:41.54 the Jews said, "Release unto us Barabbas." 00:50:41.57\00:50:44.01 We have no king but Caesar." 00:50:44.04\00:50:45.51 Absolutely. 00:50:45.54\00:50:46.88 Once again, "...before the cowardly and cruel Herod..." 00:50:48.14\00:50:51.21 She mentions these by name. 00:50:51.25\00:50:53.05 "...mocked, insulted, tortured, and condemned to die, 00:50:53.42\00:50:56.35 all are vividly portrayed. 00:50:56.45\00:50:59.39 And now before the swaying multitude are revealed 00:51:00.26\00:51:02.36 the final scenes: the patient Sufferer treading the path 00:51:02.39\00:51:05.76 to Calvary; the Prince of heaven hanging upon the cross; 00:51:05.79\00:51:09.50 the haughty priests and the jeering rabble deriding 00:51:09.53\00:51:12.27 His expiring agony; the supernatural darkness; 00:51:12.30\00:51:15.47 the heaving earth, the rent rocks, the open graves, 00:51:15.50\00:51:18.74 marking the moment when the world's Redeemer 00:51:18.77\00:51:21.14 yielded up His life. 00:51:21.18\00:51:22.51 The awful spectacle appears just as it was. 00:51:22.71\00:51:25.71 Satan, his angels, and his subjects have no power to turn 00:51:25.91\00:51:29.22 from the picture of their own work. 00:51:29.25\00:51:31.02 Each actor recalls the part that he performed. 00:51:31.29\00:51:34.66 Herod, who slew the innocent children of Bethlehem 00:51:34.69\00:51:37.73 that he might destroy the King of Israel; 00:51:38.03\00:51:41.36 the base Herodias, upon whose guilty soul rests the blood 00:51:41.40\00:51:44.83 of John the Baptist; the weak, timeserving Pilate; 00:51:44.87\00:51:48.17 the mocking soldiers; the priest and rulers 00:51:48.20\00:51:50.87 and the maddened throng who cried, 'His blood be upon us, 00:51:50.91\00:51:54.14 and upon our children!' 00:51:54.18\00:51:55.51 All behold the enormity of their guilt. 00:51:55.54\00:51:58.01 They vainly seek to hide from the divine majesty 00:51:58.48\00:52:00.92 of His countenance, outshining the glory of the sun, 00:52:00.95\00:52:03.99 while the redeemed cast their crowns at the Savior's feet, 00:52:04.65\00:52:07.36 exclaiming, 'He died for me!'" 00:52:07.39\00:52:10.19 Are you catching the picture? 00:52:11.63\00:52:13.09 By the way, those who are in the city, they lived during the 00:52:14.20\00:52:17.90 period of the seven seals. 00:52:17.93\00:52:19.60 And they overcame. 00:52:20.00\00:52:21.34 Next paragraph. 00:52:22.80\00:52:24.14 "Amid the ransomed throng are the apostles of Christ, 00:52:24.17\00:52:27.78 the heroic Paul, the ardent Peter, 00:52:27.81\00:52:30.45 the loved and loving John, and their truehearted brethren, 00:52:30.75\00:52:34.22 and with them the vast host of martyrs; 00:52:34.25\00:52:36.35 while outside the walls, with every vile and abominable thing, 00:52:36.38\00:52:40.72 are those by whom they were persecuted, 00:52:40.76\00:52:42.69 imprisoned, and slain. 00:52:42.72\00:52:44.06 There is Nero..." 00:52:44.36\00:52:45.69 So now we're moving on to the history of the church 00:52:45.73\00:52:48.10 and the Roman empire. 00:52:48.13\00:52:49.46 "...that monster of cruelty and vice, beholding the joy 00:52:49.53\00:52:52.60 and exaltation of those whom he once tortured, 00:52:52.63\00:52:55.54 and in whose extremist anguish he found satanic delight. 00:52:55.57\00:52:59.54 His mother is there to witness the result of her own work, 00:52:59.81\00:53:03.21 to see how the evil stamp of character transmitted 00:53:03.24\00:53:06.11 to her son; the passions encouraged and developed 00:53:06.15\00:53:09.58 by her influence and example have borne fruit in crimes 00:53:09.62\00:53:13.15 that caused the world to shudder." 00:53:13.19\00:53:15.42 And now it's going to move on to the Middle Ages. 00:53:15.76\00:53:18.89 So what does the scroll contain? 00:53:19.86\00:53:21.76 The history of the world. 00:53:23.06\00:53:24.40 From Adam in the Garden of Eden. 00:53:25.03\00:53:26.84 The decisions that were made either pro or con. 00:53:27.54\00:53:30.61 And the reward that each receives based on 00:53:31.07\00:53:33.51 what is there found in the records. 00:53:33.54\00:53:36.04 She continues, "There are papists priests and prelates, 00:53:36.44\00:53:40.48 who claimed to be Christ's ambassadors, 00:53:40.88\00:53:43.49 yet employed the rack, the dungeon, and the stake 00:53:43.52\00:53:46.15 to control the consciences of His people. 00:53:46.19\00:53:48.46 There are the proud pontiffs," popes, in other words, 00:53:49.02\00:53:53.19 "who exalted themselves above God and presumed to 00:53:53.29\00:53:56.60 change the law of the Most High. 00:53:56.63\00:53:58.87 Those pretended fathers of the church have an account 00:53:59.20\00:54:03.34 to render to God from which they would fain be excused. 00:54:03.37\00:54:07.44 Too late, they are made to see that the Omniscient One 00:54:07.74\00:54:11.31 is jealous of His law and that He will in no wise 00:54:11.35\00:54:14.88 clear the guilty. 00:54:14.92\00:54:16.48 They learn now that Christ identifies His interest 00:54:16.75\00:54:20.86 with that of His suffering people; and they feel the 00:54:20.89\00:54:23.56 force of His own words, 'Inasmuch as ye have 00:54:23.59\00:54:26.93 done it unto one of the least of these, My brethren, 00:54:26.96\00:54:29.80 ye have done it unto Me.' 00:54:30.10\00:54:32.20 The whole wicked world stand arraigned at the bar of God 00:54:32.60\00:54:37.61 on the charge of high treason against the 00:54:37.77\00:54:40.74 government of heaven. 00:54:40.78\00:54:42.11 They have none to plead their cause; they are without excuse; 00:54:42.14\00:54:46.45 and the sentence of eternal death 00:54:46.48\00:54:48.58 is pronounced against them." 00:54:48.68\00:54:51.25 So what does the scroll contain? 00:54:53.76\00:54:56.12 The entire history of the world. 00:54:58.03\00:54:59.83 Those who cried out, "We have no king but Caesar. 00:55:01.13\00:55:06.74 Release unto us Barabbas," are they going to be there? 00:55:07.30\00:55:09.77 Are they going to face that again? 00:55:10.97\00:55:12.71 Are they going to see it? 00:55:12.74\00:55:14.08 Yes. 00:55:14.11\00:55:15.44 You know, human beings boast about their technology. 00:55:15.48\00:55:18.68 You know, the megabytes and terabytes 00:55:20.18\00:55:21.88 and all the other kind of bytes. 00:55:21.92\00:55:23.65 What kind of technology do you need to record the entire 00:55:25.15\00:55:28.02 human race, the history of the entire human race, 00:55:28.06\00:55:30.89 without missing a single detail? 00:55:30.93\00:55:32.89 Because we're going to see it again just as it happened. 00:55:34.36\00:55:36.56 What kind of technology? 00:55:37.73\00:55:39.07 You know, human beings, they boast, but really 00:55:39.10\00:55:41.40 what man has invented is only a little microscopic itty-bitty 00:55:42.14\00:55:46.78 reflection of the tremendous capacity that God has. 00:55:46.81\00:55:50.25 That's what's contained in the scroll. 00:55:51.28\00:55:53.05 And by the way, you know, prophets spoke in the 00:55:53.62\00:55:55.98 language of their day. 00:55:56.02\00:55:57.39 You know, John obviously wasn't going to say 00:55:58.05\00:56:00.06 that this was a computer. 00:56:00.09\00:56:03.12 Or that is was recorded on a flash drive. 00:56:03.76\00:56:07.60 No, because that didn't exist. 00:56:07.76\00:56:09.53 So he says books. 00:56:09.56\00:56:10.90 Ellen White later on used photography. 00:56:11.03\00:56:13.13 She said our lives are being photographed by God. 00:56:13.17\00:56:16.54 I think if God called a prophet today, the prophet would say 00:56:17.54\00:56:21.14 God is computerizing. 00:56:21.18\00:56:22.98 Or God is videotaping our lives. 00:56:23.58\00:56:26.78 He's videotaping the entire course of human history. 00:56:26.82\00:56:30.52 And by the way, when that scene is presented above the city 00:56:31.42\00:56:37.46 in ultra-high definition, better than even 4k, 00:56:37.83\00:56:42.46 at that time, after the panorama is seen, 00:56:43.30\00:56:47.10 the entire universe: Satan, his angels, the wicked, 00:56:48.37\00:56:53.17 and the righteous will bow before God 00:56:53.38\00:56:56.28 and they'll say, "Righteous and true are Your ways, O God." 00:56:56.31\00:57:00.85 Only at this moment can Satan and his angels 00:57:01.42\00:57:04.95 and the wicked be destroyed. 00:57:04.99\00:57:06.45 Because the entire universe for once is in harmony 00:57:06.69\00:57:10.46 that God was right and Satan was wrong. 00:57:10.66\00:57:14.13 And sometimes we think that the wicked are going to 00:57:14.86\00:57:16.60 be attacking the holy city when they're destroyed. 00:57:16.63\00:57:19.30 No. 00:57:19.37\00:57:20.70 Ezekiel 28 and, Great Controversy, says that 00:57:21.74\00:57:24.17 when the wicked see the panorama and how Satan has 00:57:24.21\00:57:26.94 deceived them, they now turn from God 00:57:26.98\00:57:30.85 and those who are in the city, and they turn to Satan and say, 00:57:30.88\00:57:34.18 "You deceiver," and they launch themself against 00:57:34.38\00:57:37.65 Satan with the intention of tearing him apart. 00:57:37.69\00:57:40.76 Read Ezekiel 28, the first half of the chapter. 00:57:41.29\00:57:44.06 But then God, in His mercy, will rain fire from heaven 00:57:44.49\00:57:48.06 to destroy Satan, and his angels, and the wicked. 00:57:48.70\00:57:53.34 And once everything is burnt up and purified, 00:57:53.87\00:57:57.24 God will create a new heavens and a new earth 00:57:57.34\00:58:00.48 where righteousness dwells. 00:58:00.68\00:58:02.31
