00:00:38.93\00:00:40.27 When I left, it was 14 degrees. 00:00:40.30\00:00:42.20 I'm told it is down to three now, 00:00:42.24\00:00:44.11 and heading south. 00:00:44.51\00:00:46.41 Yes, right. 00:00:46.44\00:00:47.78 I was wondering, does anyone here have a bedroom they want to 00:00:48.01\00:00:50.75 rent out for the rest of the winter? 00:00:50.78\00:00:52.51 Well we love Illinois, and it will warm back up. 00:00:53.88\00:00:56.85 That's one good thing about our weather there in West Frankfort. 00:00:56.89\00:01:01.39 But we do envy you folks to get to spend the winter here. 00:01:01.42\00:01:05.39 I wouldn't want to spend the summers here. 00:01:05.66\00:01:07.33 Last time I was here in the summer, 125 degrees. 00:01:07.36\00:01:11.73 And I was wearing contact lenses in those days. 00:01:12.03\00:01:15.54 They stuck to my eyeballs and I couldn't get them off. 00:01:15.57\00:01:18.47 I'm serious. 00:01:18.51\00:01:19.84 It was that warm. 00:01:19.87\00:01:21.21 But boy, it's been some really beautiful weather here today. 00:01:21.58\00:01:26.65 And this is a great place, Jim, to begin our 00:01:26.68\00:01:28.85 Anchors series for 2015. 00:01:28.88\00:01:31.32 It really is. 00:01:31.35\00:01:32.69 This Anchors, Jim, is the 151st Anchors. 00:01:32.72\00:01:37.03 We've done 150. 00:01:37.06\00:01:38.46 This makes 151. 00:01:38.49\00:01:39.89 - Isn't that amazing? - Yeah. 00:01:39.93\00:01:41.26 It's hard to fathom that this many have actually been done. 00:01:41.50\00:01:48.60 - But it's amazing. - You remember the first one? 00:01:48.64\00:01:50.44 Matter of fact, I don't. 00:01:51.27\00:01:52.84 February 2011, Ty Gibson. 00:01:52.87\00:01:56.68 - Who was it? - Ty Gibson. 00:01:56.71\00:01:58.51 Alright, and we've had Ty back several times. 00:01:58.55\00:02:01.58 - Several times. - That is true. 00:02:01.62\00:02:03.65 Well this is about the Jewish work. 00:02:03.89\00:02:07.36 And you know, the amazing thing is that the servant of the Lord 00:02:07.76\00:02:13.03 tells us that just before the return of our Lord, 00:02:13.06\00:02:17.63 there's going to be a mighty work among the Jewish people. 00:02:17.87\00:02:20.87 - We've seen it already. - We have. 00:02:21.10\00:02:22.97 We've seen guys like Doug Batchelor, 00:02:23.00\00:02:25.17 Sasha Bolotnikov, who's going to be here tonight, 00:02:25.91\00:02:28.68 Jeff Zaremsky, and Alan Reinach, 00:02:29.84\00:02:33.35 Alex down in Florida who can't be with us this time. 00:02:34.12\00:02:37.85 But there are so many of these. 00:02:38.55\00:02:40.72 White Horse Ministry, Steve Wohlberg. 00:02:40.76\00:02:44.03 And so many of these young men grew up Jewish, 00:02:44.59\00:02:49.60 found the Messiah, found it in the context of the 00:02:50.20\00:02:54.00 Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:02:54.04\00:02:55.54 And all of a sudden, I had one young Jewish man tell me, 00:02:56.54\00:03:00.94 "I now feel complete." 00:03:01.48\00:03:03.45 Now this is a brilliant young man. 00:03:03.71\00:03:05.31 And he was an Orthodox Jew. 00:03:05.35\00:03:07.85 But when he found this message, he said, 00:03:08.15\00:03:11.62 "This puts it all together. 00:03:11.65\00:03:13.99 This puts it all together." 00:03:14.56\00:03:17.49 He said, "The Seventh-day Adventist message 00:03:17.96\00:03:20.66 is the apostolic message of the disciples 00:03:21.10\00:03:27.84 who were Jews who kept the Sabbath and who believed 00:03:28.30\00:03:33.98 in the entire Bible." 00:03:34.41\00:03:36.34 And he said, "This is what Seventh-day Adventists are." 00:03:36.91\00:03:40.35 Now I want to read you a statement. 00:03:40.38\00:03:41.72 This comes from, Acts of the Apostles. 00:03:41.75\00:03:43.99 Ellen Whites says, "God expects His messengers 00:03:44.29\00:03:47.82 to take particular interest in the Jewish people." 00:03:48.02\00:03:52.73 Then she says this in, MR. 00:03:54.03\00:03:59.53 I can't remember, Ministry of... 00:03:59.57\00:04:02.00 1MR, 137 verse 2. 00:04:02.47\00:04:05.54 You've heard this statement many times, 00:04:05.57\00:04:08.01 but you did not realize it was tied to the Jewish people. 00:04:08.04\00:04:12.71 It says, "The time has come when the Jews are to be given light. 00:04:13.01\00:04:16.45 The Lord wants us to encourage and sustain men who shall 00:04:16.89\00:04:21.59 labor in the right lines for this people; 00:04:21.62\00:04:24.66 for there are to be a multitude convinced of the truth 00:04:25.46\00:04:29.10 who will take their position for God. 00:04:29.13\00:04:32.40 The time is coming when there will be as many," 00:04:32.73\00:04:36.40 now listen to this, "as many converted in a day 00:04:36.44\00:04:40.64 as there were on the day of Pentecost..." 00:04:40.84\00:04:43.38 It's talking about Jews. 00:04:43.41\00:04:45.15 See, we always have just applied that to 00:04:46.01\00:04:48.42 a number around the world. 00:04:48.45\00:04:50.12 No, she says there will be as many Jews "converted in a day 00:04:50.15\00:04:56.49 as there were on the day of Pentecost, 00:04:57.53\00:04:59.49 after the disciples had received the Holy Spirit." 00:04:59.53\00:05:04.50 You know something? We want to be a part of that. 00:05:04.87\00:05:06.97 And so this is why we've invited Ralph Ringer, 00:05:07.40\00:05:10.44 who is the coordinator and director of the Jewish outreach 00:05:11.01\00:05:15.48 ministries for North America, among other hats that he wears. 00:05:15.51\00:05:19.15 And we have invited him to come and to be with us 00:05:20.32\00:05:25.69 to introduce to us three other young men 00:05:26.05\00:05:31.13 who are going to be presenting the message as Jewish believers 00:05:31.66\00:05:36.97 in Jesus and the third angel's message. 00:05:37.00\00:05:40.14 So I'm looking forward to this. 00:05:40.30\00:05:41.64 A year ago we had a similar series with several of 00:05:41.67\00:05:45.81 the same people, and it was unbelievably received. 00:05:45.84\00:05:50.35 And so we have invited them to come and to present 00:05:50.38\00:05:54.55 a series again. 00:05:54.58\00:05:55.92 - Isn't it amazing? - It is amazing. 00:05:55.98\00:05:57.45 And one of the things we're trying to do is to sensitize you 00:05:57.49\00:06:00.82 to the understanding that the work among particular people 00:06:00.86\00:06:04.26 is not always as easy as it is among others. 00:06:04.29\00:06:07.60 Yet God said that this work will be successful. 00:06:07.63\00:06:10.90 And so we can move forward in the strength of the Lord, 00:06:11.03\00:06:13.44 not in our own strength. 00:06:13.47\00:06:14.80 When you are dealing with people of Islamic faith, 00:06:14.84\00:06:16.91 you have to be very easy and very sensitive. 00:06:16.94\00:06:19.47 When you're dealing with people of Jewish faith, 00:06:19.51\00:06:20.88 you've got to be very easy and very sensitive. 00:06:20.91\00:06:22.91 You can't really sort of go in like a bull in a china shop. 00:06:22.94\00:06:25.48 Yet there are ways to minister to our Jewish brethren. 00:06:25.58\00:06:28.98 And one of the things we want to do during this series 00:06:29.02\00:06:31.59 is sensitize the Christian community to those ways 00:06:31.62\00:06:35.22 so that your evangelism or your dealing with them 00:06:35.26\00:06:39.59 can be successful and be salvific. 00:06:39.63\00:06:41.66 And we're looking to present the right balance 00:06:41.70\00:06:45.37 in understanding the Jews and where they fit in 00:06:45.57\00:06:50.11 to these last days. 00:06:50.14\00:06:51.51 There are some that go, some of our great evangelical friends, 00:06:51.74\00:06:55.81 that go far to the extreme in that position. 00:06:55.84\00:07:00.25 However, there's some that have gone extreme 00:07:00.28\00:07:04.55 in the other direction of not believing that the message 00:07:04.59\00:07:08.99 should go to the Jewish people at all. 00:07:09.02\00:07:10.83 We believe God has a right way to present that message. 00:07:10.93\00:07:16.56 And that's what we're going to be talking about 00:07:16.97\00:07:18.67 in these next few days. 00:07:19.10\00:07:20.77 I want to invite Pastor Murrel Tull to come. 00:07:20.80\00:07:23.27 And Pastor Tull, thank you for allowing us to come here 00:07:23.47\00:07:28.64 to this beautiful church. 00:07:28.68\00:07:30.15 We're glad you're here, Jim. 00:07:30.18\00:07:31.51 And we're so happy to be with your people there. 00:07:31.55\00:07:34.25 They've been so warm and hospitable, and we just... 00:07:34.35\00:07:37.52 You know, I think when I mentioned that we were 00:07:38.39\00:07:42.19 going to be here, I called this place... 00:07:42.22\00:07:44.63 - What did I call it? - Sunshine. 00:07:44.66\00:07:46.06 Well it is sunshine. 00:07:46.26\00:07:47.60 It's Surprise, alright, but there's a lot of good sunshine. 00:07:47.63\00:07:51.07 And it is not just outside. 00:07:51.10\00:07:52.93 We see it in the faces of these folks here. 00:07:53.17\00:07:56.27 - Would you lead us in prayer? - Absolutely. 00:07:56.30\00:07:58.34 Shall we pray. 00:07:58.61\00:07:59.94 Loving Father, You are our anchor. 00:08:00.58\00:08:04.81 You are our truth. 00:08:05.61\00:08:07.38 And we want to live for You. 00:08:08.35\00:08:11.09 We thank You so much for our friends that are here. 00:08:12.15\00:08:16.22 Elder Gilley, be with him as he presents this weekend in truth. 00:08:16.69\00:08:22.40 Be with our Jewish friends in Israel, in New York, Florida, 00:08:22.86\00:08:27.44 and here in Phoenix. 00:08:27.47\00:08:28.90 The Phoenix area have many Jewish people. 00:08:28.94\00:08:31.54 And we pray that they will be reached by 00:08:31.57\00:08:34.31 Your Holy Spirit tonight. 00:08:34.34\00:08:36.21 Again, touch each one of our hearts 00:08:36.64\00:08:39.65 and draw us nearer to You. 00:08:39.91\00:08:42.32 In Jesus' name we pray, amen. 00:08:42.42\00:08:45.59 I received a call on Sunday from David Barron 00:08:47.29\00:08:51.79 and he let me know that just a few minutes before, 00:08:52.39\00:08:57.67 my very good friend and his father, Pastor Henry Barron, 00:08:58.20\00:09:02.90 went to sleep in Jesus at 1:40 am on Sunday. 00:09:03.87\00:09:10.01 Pastor Barron and I have a long history together 00:09:10.68\00:09:14.88 back to my teenage years when he was our youth pastor. 00:09:15.22\00:09:19.45 Later, he joined me in Arlington, Texas for five years. 00:09:19.95\00:09:24.86 He volunteered, he was paid, but he said, "I want to be 00:09:25.23\00:09:31.20 your associate pastor." 00:09:31.23\00:09:32.80 He was an evangelist at the time. 00:09:32.83\00:09:34.24 I said, "You're kidding me." 00:09:34.27\00:09:36.24 He said, "No I'm not." 00:09:36.27\00:09:37.67 He came and he kept me in line for five years. 00:09:38.27\00:09:41.38 And I tell you, the Lord blessed our ministry together. 00:09:41.81\00:09:45.38 That church grew from under 300 to over 1000. 00:09:45.58\00:09:49.85 And we knew that it was the Lord's doing. 00:09:50.19\00:09:54.09 But we also knew that Henry's constant visiting, 00:09:54.39\00:09:58.49 his working with people, was the key 00:09:58.86\00:10:02.13 in bringing people to Jesus. 00:10:02.33\00:10:04.33 Henry was a wonderful singer. 00:10:04.67\00:10:06.74 I'll never forget the first time I heard him sing. 00:10:07.00\00:10:09.57 And he loved hymns. 00:10:09.80\00:10:11.51 And one of those hymns that he loved so much 00:10:11.77\00:10:15.14 is, My Faith Has Found A Resting Place. 00:10:15.44\00:10:21.12 I'm going to ask C.A. if he'll sing that song at this time. 00:10:21.48\00:10:25.75 My faith has found a resting place, 00:10:44.11\00:10:49.41 not in a manmade creed; 00:10:49.44\00:10:54.32 I trust the Ever-living One, 00:10:54.35\00:10:59.35 that He for me will plead. 00:10:59.39\00:11:04.59 I need no other evidence, 00:11:04.63\00:11:09.50 I need no other plea; 00:11:09.53\00:11:15.47 it is enough that Jesus died, 00:11:15.50\00:11:20.81 and rose again for me. 00:11:20.84\00:11:27.75 Enough for me that Jesus saves, 00:11:33.62\00:11:38.79 this ends my fear and doubt; 00:11:38.83\00:11:43.90 a sinful soul I come to Him, 00:11:43.93\00:11:49.10 He will not cast me out. 00:11:49.14\00:11:54.51 I need no other evidence, 00:11:54.54\00:11:59.28 I need no other plea; 00:11:59.31\00:12:04.92 it is enough that Jesus died, 00:12:04.95\00:12:10.23 and rose again for me. 00:12:10.26\00:12:17.53 The great Physician heals the sick, 00:12:17.57\00:12:23.04 the lost He came to save; 00:12:23.07\00:12:28.34 for me His precious blood He shed, 00:12:28.38\00:12:33.52 for me His life He gave. 00:12:33.55\00:12:38.65 I need no other argument, 00:12:38.69\00:12:43.53 I need no other plea; 00:12:43.56\00:12:49.23 it is enough that Jesus died, 00:12:49.26\00:12:55.07 and rose again for me. 00:12:55.10\00:13:02.44 My faith is resting on His Word, 00:13:10.05\00:13:15.16 the living Word of God; 00:13:15.19\00:13:20.20 salvation in my Savior's name, 00:13:20.23\00:13:25.67 salvation through His blood. 00:13:25.70\00:13:30.64 And I need no other evidence, 00:13:30.67\00:13:35.48 I need no other plea; 00:13:35.51\00:13:41.25 it is enough that Jesus died, 00:13:41.28\00:13:47.32 and rose again for me. 00:13:47.36\00:13:57.23 Amen, thank you so much, C.A. 00:14:08.81\00:14:11.41 I'm going to introduce to you right now Ralph Ringer. 00:14:12.91\00:14:16.32 Pastor, Elder, and Doctor Ralph Ringer, 00:14:16.99\00:14:19.75 who is the director of NAD Jewish Ministries. 00:14:19.95\00:14:23.56 I just gave you a doctorate, I don't know. 00:14:23.59\00:14:25.63 You may have one, you probably have one already. 00:14:26.09\00:14:28.40 I've given you another one. 00:14:28.70\00:14:30.03 And so does Dr. Sasha Bolotnikov. 00:14:30.07\00:14:32.77 I know he has one. 00:14:32.80\00:14:34.14 So I'm going to let you introduce him, alright. 00:14:34.17\00:14:36.97 It's my privilege to be here and to introduce to you 00:14:38.04\00:14:42.28 Dr. Alexander Bolotnikov. 00:14:43.14\00:14:48.28 And he's more commonly known as Sasha. 00:14:48.52\00:14:51.82 He's the director of the Shalom Learning Center for the 00:14:51.85\00:14:54.92 North American Division. 00:14:54.96\00:14:56.59 I'm very glad to be here this evening. 00:14:59.73\00:15:03.67 And I hope the topic of the covenant will be of interest 00:15:04.43\00:15:14.41 to those who are here and to our viewers. 00:15:14.58\00:15:20.25 And that's the topic we're going to be covering every night. 00:15:20.82\00:15:25.75 And I'll be covering the first night, 00:15:26.29\00:15:30.03 The Covenant and The Law. 00:15:30.06\00:15:33.33 And on Sabbath morning I will be speaking about, 00:15:34.00\00:15:38.47 The Covenant and The Atonement. 00:15:38.50\00:15:42.24 So today is the topic of the law. 00:15:43.24\00:15:48.64 Which is a challenging one. 00:15:48.94\00:15:52.81 What do we believe about the law? 00:15:54.25\00:15:57.39 How do we relate the law to the new covenant. 00:15:57.42\00:16:03.69 Well, let me see. 00:16:03.96\00:16:06.80 I'm going to ask you four questions, 00:16:07.40\00:16:11.00 and see if you believe this. 00:16:11.93\00:16:15.54 How many of you believe that God gave the laws 00:16:15.57\00:16:22.54 to ancient Israelites as the venue for them to be saved 00:16:22.58\00:16:28.58 under the old covenant, whereas under the new covenant 00:16:28.62\00:16:32.59 Christians are saved by grace? 00:16:32.62\00:16:34.76 How many of you believe it? 00:16:35.02\00:16:36.36 Can I see your hands? 00:16:36.39\00:16:37.73 Okay. 00:16:41.06\00:16:42.40 Alright, I'm not giving any reaction. 00:16:42.86\00:16:46.53 Let's see the second one, if you believe this. 00:16:46.57\00:16:50.94 God gave the Ten Commandments to all people, whereas the 00:16:51.64\00:16:58.11 rest of the laws of the Torah are merely ceremonial 00:16:58.15\00:17:03.45 and were given to Jews only. 00:17:03.65\00:17:07.56 I see some of you think this way. 00:17:11.73\00:17:15.46 Alright, I'm not giving you my reaction. 00:17:15.96\00:17:19.07 I'm just testing the opinions. 00:17:19.67\00:17:23.74 It's just a poll. Don't worry. 00:17:23.77\00:17:25.91 Just a poll. 00:17:26.24\00:17:27.58 Okay, the third question. 00:17:28.41\00:17:31.01 The Bible does not separate the Ten Commandments 00:17:31.91\00:17:35.72 from the rest of the laws of the Torah. 00:17:35.75\00:17:38.62 Therefore, under the new covenant, Christians 00:17:38.92\00:17:42.56 are liable to keep all the laws. 00:17:42.59\00:17:45.56 How many of you believe that? 00:17:46.13\00:17:47.83 Okay, you're a little bit scared of my questions. 00:17:51.07\00:17:55.37 Very hard theology, isn't it. 00:17:56.20\00:17:58.77 Okay, and the fourth one. 00:18:00.34\00:18:02.38 God made the new covenant in order to nullify the laws 00:18:03.81\00:18:08.55 of the old covenant. 00:18:08.58\00:18:10.35 Therefore, Christians are not bound by any of the Torah laws. 00:18:10.65\00:18:15.52 And so you can find all that you need to do totally 00:18:16.32\00:18:20.70 in the New Testament. 00:18:20.73\00:18:22.83 Do you believe that? 00:18:23.73\00:18:25.07 That one you definitely don't. 00:18:26.37\00:18:28.84 I see that. 00:18:29.94\00:18:31.57 I should ask how many of you do not, instead of 00:18:31.61\00:18:34.98 how many of you do. 00:18:35.01\00:18:36.85 But it doesn't matter. 00:18:37.08\00:18:38.65 These are serious questions. 00:18:39.25\00:18:41.65 These are different ways many Christians look at the law 00:18:41.88\00:18:49.12 and look at the relationship between the old 00:18:49.22\00:18:55.76 and the new covenant. 00:18:55.80\00:18:57.33 You know, it is interesting how in the Middle Ages 00:18:57.73\00:19:04.64 Jews were forced to convert to Christianity 00:19:05.57\00:19:10.08 under the threat of execution. 00:19:10.11\00:19:12.71 In fact, in Spain during the famous reconquista, 00:19:13.18\00:19:18.15 the reconquest, Spain was taken by Christians 00:19:18.19\00:19:22.76 from the Arabs at the end of the 1400's. 00:19:22.79\00:19:28.16 And Jews were very much persecuted by Christians. 00:19:28.36\00:19:33.90 Jews had three options. 00:19:33.94\00:19:35.97 Option number one, convert to Christianity. 00:19:36.00\00:19:40.28 Option number two, within three days leave the country. 00:19:40.64\00:19:46.55 Option number three, if option number two and number one 00:19:46.82\00:19:51.42 is not met, they'll be killed. 00:19:51.45\00:19:54.02 So that's why it's not very easy. 00:19:54.72\00:19:58.53 You know, some people say, "Oh, how come Jews are not 00:19:58.69\00:20:02.56 accepting such simple prophecies of the Bible?" 00:20:02.80\00:20:08.44 Well, history made it not so simple. 00:20:08.47\00:20:12.87 You know. 00:20:13.48\00:20:14.81 Anyway, for the Jews who accepted Christianity, 00:20:14.84\00:20:20.15 they had to swear to the bishop that they completely reject 00:20:20.62\00:20:30.43 the laws of the Torah. 00:20:30.73\00:20:33.03 How did they do this? 00:20:33.80\00:20:35.43 In most of the cases, they made them eat pork publically 00:20:35.46\00:20:43.14 to prove that they no longer feel bound by the evil laws 00:20:43.81\00:20:50.25 of the Old Testament. 00:20:50.28\00:20:52.81 And so they later were called, marranos. 00:20:53.45\00:20:58.35 Those of you who know Spanish probably are aware that 00:20:58.39\00:21:01.72 marrano is a pig. 00:21:01.76\00:21:03.76 You know, many of them immigrated to South America. 00:21:04.46\00:21:08.46 And we meet many of them who still secretly, 00:21:08.86\00:21:14.24 many generations, keep Jewish traditions 00:21:14.27\00:21:18.44 because they remember how they were forced to Christianity 00:21:18.47\00:21:22.41 through eating pork. 00:21:22.44\00:21:23.91 Well, so this is why the questions are not easy. 00:21:25.21\00:21:31.52 So we'll address them one by one. 00:21:31.55\00:21:35.52 So the first one, and I know some of you hesitated. 00:21:36.56\00:21:41.50 Because it's a very typical thinking that Old Testament 00:21:41.53\00:21:48.70 temple rituals were given to Jewish people 00:21:48.74\00:21:53.88 so that they, by performing them, they would be saved. 00:21:53.91\00:22:00.45 And so under the new covenant God had relieved His people 00:22:02.25\00:22:09.49 from this kind of burdensome process of salvation. 00:22:09.52\00:22:15.30 So let's check this theory. 00:22:16.46\00:22:18.97 Let's open Leviticus chapter 1 verse 4 00:22:19.60\00:22:24.44 and hear what it says. 00:22:25.37\00:22:26.81 It's talking about one of the offerings. 00:22:27.74\00:22:32.48 It is called the burnt offering. 00:22:33.62\00:22:36.95 And so right at the beginning of the offering ritual, 00:22:37.29\00:22:43.43 there were lots of things, you will see, when an Israelite 00:22:43.46\00:22:49.46 brings an animal to the temple, the first action 00:22:49.66\00:22:57.01 is described like this: 00:22:58.24\00:23:00.11 "He shall put his hand over the head of the burnt offering, 00:23:01.38\00:23:09.12 and it will be accepted on his behalf to make 00:23:09.15\00:23:13.76 atonement for him." 00:23:13.79\00:23:15.82 You see, right at the beginning, as soon as the individual 00:23:16.89\00:23:24.30 who understands his sinfulness lays his hand... 00:23:24.40\00:23:32.27 By laying the hand, he basically transfers his sin 00:23:32.31\00:23:39.31 upon the animal. 00:23:39.35\00:23:40.92 As soon as it's done, there is an atonement. 00:23:41.12\00:23:44.85 Afterwards, the animal dies. 00:23:46.45\00:23:49.69 That's what the wages of sin is. 00:23:49.72\00:23:52.33 Afterwards, the priests do all kinds of manipulations 00:23:52.36\00:23:57.43 with blood and with other parts of the animal. 00:23:57.47\00:24:01.60 But all of this does not really concern the fact that 00:24:01.87\00:24:08.28 the relationship between this Israelite and God are fixed 00:24:08.51\00:24:14.72 as long as he unloaded himself from the sin he had 00:24:14.75\00:24:21.32 and put the sin upon the animal that acts as a substitute. 00:24:21.36\00:24:27.86 So it's exactly the same how we're saved today, right? 00:24:29.13\00:24:32.83 How is Jesus giving us justification? 00:24:34.14\00:24:38.54 Does He tell us, "Oh, you need to do this. 00:24:38.87\00:24:42.38 You need to do this." 00:24:42.41\00:24:43.75 And you've got to have a checklist, 00:24:43.78\00:24:45.68 like the airplane pilot. 00:24:45.71\00:24:47.65 And at the end of the checklist, boom, justification. 00:24:47.72\00:24:51.29 Not really. 00:24:52.25\00:24:53.59 We acknowledge ourself as sinners. 00:24:54.39\00:24:58.33 We claim the blood of Jesus to atone for our sins. 00:24:58.56\00:25:05.57 And we're justified. 00:25:05.60\00:25:07.94 And then we follow the same way as the ritual follows. 00:25:08.87\00:25:13.64 Because our life changes, we change our habits, 00:25:13.68\00:25:18.48 whatever we need to change. 00:25:18.51\00:25:20.48 But justification comes right at the beginning at no cost, 00:25:20.68\00:25:26.99 as long as we claim the blood of the Messiah 00:25:27.02\00:25:31.46 to be applied for our atonement. 00:25:32.56\00:25:35.36 When Israelites did not understand this concept... 00:25:37.93\00:25:42.07 Because it wasn't easy to understand. 00:25:42.10\00:25:45.81 And I'll explain to you why. 00:25:46.11\00:25:48.11 See, pagans also brought many sacrifices in their temples. 00:25:48.58\00:25:55.05 But they did it for a sole purpose of 00:25:55.58\00:26:00.62 feeding their deities. 00:26:00.72\00:26:03.43 That's the difference. 00:26:04.66\00:26:07.76 In other words, pagans, by bringing offerings 00:26:07.80\00:26:12.40 to the temples, were paying the deity for 00:26:12.43\00:26:17.77 the things this deity was doing. 00:26:18.41\00:26:20.51 So if there was a temple of Baal who was a god of fertility, 00:26:20.54\00:26:27.18 so they'd bring sacrifices and they'd expect that 00:26:27.38\00:26:33.09 Baal will receive X amount of bulls and goats. 00:26:33.12\00:26:36.79 And for this, the rain will come. 00:26:36.83\00:26:40.10 So it's kind of a transaction type of payment relation. 00:26:40.40\00:26:44.47 And when Israelites got this attitude, 00:26:44.90\00:26:49.37 in the book of Isaiah the prophet speaks, 00:26:49.40\00:26:54.24 "Bring no more futile sacrifices. 00:26:54.91\00:26:58.71 Incense is an abomination to Me. 00:26:58.75\00:27:01.92 The New Moons and Sabbaths..." 00:27:01.95\00:27:03.52 Look, even New Moons and Sabbaths. 00:27:03.55\00:27:06.09 "...and the calling of assemblies; 00:27:06.39\00:27:08.36 I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meetings." 00:27:08.39\00:27:13.63 You see, God did not need the sacrificial animals 00:27:14.46\00:27:20.00 as a payment for justification and atonement. 00:27:20.54\00:27:28.21 God needed a changed heart. 00:27:28.78\00:27:31.21 And that's exactly where Isaiah goes. 00:27:31.38\00:27:34.02 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; 00:27:34.38\00:27:38.42 Put away your evil doings from before My eyes. 00:27:38.45\00:27:43.89 Cease to do evil, learn to do good; 00:27:43.93\00:27:47.56 seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; 00:27:47.60\00:27:51.13 defend the fatherless, plead for the widow." 00:27:51.17\00:27:55.37 Then, "'Come and let us reason together,' says the Lord. 00:27:56.91\00:28:01.28 'Though your sins are like scarlet, 00:28:01.44\00:28:04.75 they shall be as white as snow; 00:28:05.51\00:28:07.62 though they are red as crimson, they shall be as wool.'" 00:28:08.35\00:28:14.32 Isaiah 1, I was reading from the verses 13 through 18. 00:28:14.46\00:28:20.43 This is not a new concept in the new covenant. 00:28:21.73\00:28:27.84 This is exactly what God expected from Israelites. 00:28:27.87\00:28:32.17 Change of heart. 00:28:32.31\00:28:34.11 And then the change of heart, conversion of the heart, 00:28:34.51\00:28:39.18 or even he used the term, circumcision of the heart, 00:28:39.21\00:28:44.55 brings atonement. 00:28:44.82\00:28:48.09 Then God said, "If your sins are red as crimson, 00:28:48.12\00:28:52.26 I'll make them as white as snow." 00:28:52.29\00:28:56.06 Exactly the same thing as we have under the new covenant. 00:28:56.87\00:29:04.47 The difference is, Israelites, by offering their sacrifices, 00:29:04.67\00:29:11.51 looked forward to the ultimate Lamb of God 00:29:11.71\00:29:17.39 that would take care of all the problems. 00:29:17.49\00:29:20.82 And we, under the new covenant, look back 00:29:20.86\00:29:25.39 at Calvary where our justification is done 00:29:25.43\00:29:32.00 once and for all, and for everybody who wants to 00:29:32.03\00:29:36.17 change the heart. 00:29:36.20\00:29:37.64 So, the first question we've kind of dealt with. 00:29:39.17\00:29:45.35 Let's look at the second question. 00:29:46.31\00:29:48.65 And this is a tough one. 00:29:49.82\00:29:51.45 Are all the laws outside the Decalogue ceremonial? 00:29:52.82\00:29:57.63 Well, that's a question which often is misunderstood. 00:29:59.96\00:30:07.40 People often put two boxes; they take the Ten Commandments, 00:30:08.00\00:30:13.38 and the rest is just ceremonial. 00:30:13.41\00:30:15.34 And I can tell you why. 00:30:15.38\00:30:16.95 Because there was lots of discussion, especially in the 00:30:17.21\00:30:23.02 19th century, between different Sabbath keeping Christian groups 00:30:23.05\00:30:29.42 and traditional Protestants. 00:30:29.46\00:30:31.96 And so the traditional Protestants were bringing 00:30:32.13\00:30:36.00 all kind of text. 00:30:36.03\00:30:37.37 And I will show you one text, which you're probably 00:30:37.40\00:30:41.14 very familiar with. 00:30:41.17\00:30:42.97 And so the Protestants of the 19th century 00:30:43.30\00:30:47.18 tried to find the way to defend the Sabbath. 00:30:47.38\00:30:51.08 And so when they started doing this, they said, 00:30:51.18\00:30:54.52 "Oh, we're just keeping the Ten Commandments. 00:30:54.55\00:30:56.92 The rest is only for the Jews." 00:30:56.95\00:30:59.55 Well, how about the laws of Leviticus 11? 00:30:59.59\00:31:06.73 Clean and unclean food. 00:31:07.60\00:31:09.90 They're not part of the Ten Commandments. 00:31:10.97\00:31:13.13 How about the laws of Numbers chapter 18 00:31:14.10\00:31:21.48 and Leviticus chapter 27 where it talks about 00:31:21.78\00:31:26.01 returning our tithe to the Lord? 00:31:26.55\00:31:30.02 That's not part of the Decalogue. 00:31:30.42\00:31:32.72 How about this? Let me keep reading. 00:31:33.96\00:31:36.62 How about this? 00:31:37.96\00:31:39.29 Because sometimes the argument is, "We don't need the old 00:31:39.33\00:31:45.23 covenant law's, because the New Testament 00:31:45.33\00:31:47.87 teaches us everything." 00:31:47.90\00:31:49.50 So, Leviticus 19:31-32. 00:31:49.54\00:31:55.04 "Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; 00:31:56.54\00:32:01.75 do not seek after them, do not be defiled by them: 00:32:01.95\00:32:06.59 I am the Lord your God." 00:32:06.62\00:32:08.26 You know the position of the Torah against 00:32:09.89\00:32:12.56 all kinds of spiritism. 00:32:12.59\00:32:15.80 There's no mention of this in the New Testament. 00:32:16.67\00:32:21.80 You've got to take it from the Torah. 00:32:22.70\00:32:25.31 How about this? 00:32:26.17\00:32:27.51 The language is a little bit culturally conditioned, but 00:32:28.51\00:32:33.75 you'll understand the essence here. 00:32:33.78\00:32:36.75 "You shall rise before the gray headed and honor 00:32:36.79\00:32:41.22 the presence of old men, and fear the Lord your God." 00:32:41.26\00:32:46.96 Verse 32. 00:32:47.43\00:32:48.83 Under the new covenant, we are not suppose to 00:32:49.80\00:32:53.64 respect our seniors? 00:32:53.94\00:32:58.04 You know. 00:32:59.57\00:33:00.91 So this is something. 00:33:01.14\00:33:03.55 Now for example, let's go to one other law. 00:33:03.85\00:33:09.82 And you will see why people often do not understand 00:33:10.02\00:33:16.52 these laws, because they're written in the language 00:33:16.86\00:33:22.23 of the culture which existed 3000 years ago. 00:33:22.26\00:33:26.33 But I think we can relate to this. 00:33:27.17\00:33:30.11 Look at this, Leviticus 19:10. 00:33:31.51\00:33:34.38 "And you shall not glean your vineyard, 00:33:35.28\00:33:38.88 nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; 00:33:39.45\00:33:44.59 you shall leave them for the poor and to the stranger." 00:33:44.62\00:33:49.09 That was actually in ancient Israel, a safety net. 00:33:50.53\00:33:53.96 In other words, remember Ruth? 00:33:54.93\00:33:57.27 When they came and they had nothing. 00:33:58.53\00:34:00.94 Based on the laws of the Torah, Ruth went to glean at the edges 00:34:02.07\00:34:08.11 of Boas' field. 00:34:08.14\00:34:09.94 You know what happened after that. 00:34:10.51\00:34:12.78 She became the grandmother of King David, 00:34:13.52\00:34:16.89 who is the direct ancestor of our Lord Jesus. 00:34:17.29\00:34:21.29 Do you see? 00:34:21.39\00:34:22.72 So is this applicable today? 00:34:22.76\00:34:26.26 Well if we change the language, maybe not everyone 00:34:27.10\00:34:31.17 has the vineyard or field. 00:34:32.20\00:34:36.10 Farming is kind of no longer popular on individual levels. 00:34:36.14\00:34:42.54 Right? But what about taking the extra content of our closets, 00:34:42.58\00:34:51.55 which we don't wear, to help who really needs that? 00:34:52.12\00:34:56.89 You see, Jews would say this is a mitzvah. 00:34:58.19\00:35:02.10 And when Jews say it's a mitzvah... 00:35:03.23\00:35:06.43 I have a hard time translating it as a commandment. 00:35:06.74\00:35:11.57 Because sometimes in the Christian culture, 00:35:11.61\00:35:16.54 a commandment is, "Oh, you've got to do it, 00:35:16.98\00:35:19.81 otherwise you'll be lost." 00:35:19.85\00:35:21.88 It's not about being lost. 00:35:22.18\00:35:23.85 It's about being a human being in the image of God. 00:35:23.89\00:35:30.03 And when Jews say this is a mitzvah, 00:35:30.06\00:35:36.03 this is how we build relations. 00:35:36.23\00:35:39.33 This is how we love our neighbor. 00:35:39.37\00:35:42.14 You know, when we try to help the poor, protect the widow. 00:35:42.17\00:35:46.27 And that's what the Torah is talking about. 00:35:46.74\00:35:51.21 Well, how about this? 00:35:52.81\00:35:55.98 Somebody says this is only ceremonial, 00:35:56.02\00:35:59.62 and only to the Jews. 00:36:00.46\00:36:03.02 Some sensitive subject. 00:36:04.86\00:36:07.66 Touching. 00:36:08.23\00:36:09.56 Leviticus 18:19. 00:36:09.60\00:36:11.87 "Do not approach a wife to have intimate relations 00:36:12.63\00:36:18.87 during the uncleanness of her monthly period." 00:36:18.97\00:36:23.85 It's only for the Jews, right? 00:36:25.55\00:36:27.52 Jewish women are built this way, right? 00:36:27.85\00:36:30.35 You see, the logic that the Old Testament laws are ceremonial 00:36:31.69\00:36:38.69 and only given to the Jews just doesn't add up. 00:36:38.73\00:36:43.60 It's good when you are from a distance, 00:36:44.07\00:36:47.14 never read the Torah, just reading the epistles of Paul 00:36:47.34\00:36:54.21 and hearing the debate. 00:36:54.31\00:36:56.11 But when you start reading, you will see how 00:36:56.21\00:36:58.81 it just doesn't work. 00:36:58.85\00:37:00.82 It just won't work. 00:37:01.85\00:37:03.39 That's why Psalm says, Psalm 1 verse 2, it says, 00:37:03.42\00:37:12.16 "But in the law of the Lord, he meditates day and night." 00:37:12.23\00:37:18.63 There is a lot to meditate about this. 00:37:19.57\00:37:22.37 Because the laws of the Torah actually provide 00:37:22.40\00:37:26.51 a great guidance for our ethics. 00:37:26.54\00:37:32.28 That's where we can draw our ethics. 00:37:32.61\00:37:36.05 Well, so how about this? 00:37:37.25\00:37:43.76 Also Leviticus. 00:37:44.16\00:37:45.79 And it seems like, oh Levitical law; 00:37:46.23\00:37:48.86 it's all about sacrifices, you know. 00:37:48.90\00:37:51.33 We start reading this, it seems like you're in a butcher shop. 00:37:51.53\00:37:55.87 And you close the book of Leviticus frustrated, 00:37:56.30\00:38:00.38 and you say, "I don't want this, you know. 00:38:00.58\00:38:02.74 If I keep reading it too much, you know, I will become 00:38:02.78\00:38:07.02 cruel to the animals." 00:38:07.05\00:38:08.88 Well again, this is a different culture. 00:38:09.28\00:38:12.75 God speaks the language of shepherd. 00:38:12.79\00:38:15.62 But the message is for us. 00:38:15.66\00:38:18.36 How about this? 00:38:18.39\00:38:19.73 Leviticus 19:18. 00:38:19.83\00:38:22.20 "You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge 00:38:22.60\00:38:28.24 against the children of your people, but you shall 00:38:28.27\00:38:31.81 love your neighbor as yourself." 00:38:31.84\00:38:34.84 Is it ceremonial? 00:38:36.21\00:38:37.65 Kind of a ritual of loving your neighbor. 00:38:39.25\00:38:41.98 We like that, huh? 00:38:42.42\00:38:43.89 So have we heard it somewhere else, 00:38:45.75\00:38:50.43 love your neighbor as yourself? 00:38:50.46\00:38:52.73 Oh, if you look at the book of Matthew chapter 22, 00:38:54.30\00:39:00.57 there is a very interesting conversation between 00:39:01.80\00:39:05.51 Jesus and one Pharisee. 00:39:05.54\00:39:08.51 And the Pharisee asks Him, "Which is the great commandment 00:39:09.04\00:39:17.15 in the Torah?" 00:39:17.19\00:39:18.52 And Jesus answers, "You shall love the Lord your God 00:39:19.29\00:39:23.93 with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind." 00:39:23.96\00:39:28.26 By the way, did Jesus just invent a new commandment 00:39:29.50\00:39:33.37 in place of the Ten Commandments? 00:39:33.40\00:39:36.20 It's interesting. 00:39:37.44\00:39:38.77 I had a good friend who watched one of my presentations 00:39:39.14\00:39:44.98 in the Russian language on the book of Revelation. 00:39:45.11\00:39:50.32 And there I just had an animation of the 00:39:50.35\00:39:53.82 heavenly Sanctuary, and I was explaining Revelation 11:19 00:39:53.86\00:40:00.26 when the temple of God was opened in heaven 00:40:00.30\00:40:05.13 and the ark of the covenant became visible. 00:40:05.23\00:40:09.30 And in this animation, the top of the ark opens up 00:40:09.34\00:40:12.94 and you have two tablets with the Ten Commandments 00:40:12.97\00:40:17.05 coming out with the light. 00:40:17.08\00:40:18.85 So this gentleman called me. 00:40:18.95\00:40:21.58 "I like your presentation, but I was shocked." 00:40:21.62\00:40:25.09 I asked him, "What was shocking you, Michael?" 00:40:25.49\00:40:29.89 And he told me, "Your ark of the covenant inside has 00:40:29.92\00:40:36.90 tablets with the Ten Commandments." 00:40:36.93\00:40:39.60 I said, "What is it suppose to have in heaven?" 00:40:39.63\00:40:45.01 "Oh, doesn't Jesus replace the Ten Commandments with two?" 00:40:45.34\00:40:52.78 Well if you read carefully, "You shall love the Lord your God 00:40:54.48\00:41:01.26 with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind." 00:41:01.29\00:41:04.93 This is nothing new which Jesus presents. 00:41:04.96\00:41:09.16 It's Deuteronomy chapter 6 verse 5. 00:41:09.20\00:41:15.04 Check it out. 00:41:15.64\00:41:16.97 He's quoting straight from the Torah. 00:41:17.01\00:41:19.91 As well as the second one. 00:41:20.11\00:41:22.74 "You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 00:41:23.11\00:41:27.48 On these two commandments hang the Law and the Prophets." 00:41:28.15\00:41:32.45 You see, we often do not understand the structure 00:41:33.36\00:41:39.86 of the laws in the Bible. 00:41:40.06\00:41:43.67 And we get lost. 00:41:43.70\00:41:45.33 Let me explain to you with these terms. 00:41:45.53\00:41:48.77 I get my civic exam to get my U.S. citizenship 00:41:49.27\00:41:55.64 back five years ago. 00:41:55.68\00:41:57.91 So of course there was a question. 00:41:57.95\00:42:00.62 What are the foundational principles of 00:42:00.72\00:42:03.99 the American Constitution? 00:42:04.02\00:42:06.49 And there are foundational principles. 00:42:06.52\00:42:08.96 Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 00:42:09.36\00:42:14.10 So think of what Jesus just taught this Pharisee 00:42:14.80\00:42:20.47 as the same example. 00:42:20.67\00:42:23.74 These are the foundational principles 00:42:23.77\00:42:27.44 of a heavenly constitution. 00:42:27.48\00:42:30.58 Well, the U.S. Constitution does not consist of three words. 00:42:31.18\00:42:37.02 It consists of a number of articles. 00:42:37.52\00:42:41.26 So the heavenly constitution consists of ten articles. 00:42:41.66\00:42:48.56 So you have, "Love your God," and, "Love your neighbor," 00:42:49.26\00:42:54.77 as "life, liberty," you know. 00:42:54.80\00:42:57.64 You have three in the American Constitution, 00:42:57.67\00:43:00.31 two in the heavenly. 00:43:00.34\00:43:01.78 And then you have ten articles of the heavenly constitution 00:43:02.38\00:43:06.82 that are sprouting from these two foundational principles. 00:43:06.85\00:43:14.42 But does the court in the regular state or county or city 00:43:14.92\00:43:23.23 operate solely on the Constitution? 00:43:23.43\00:43:27.34 That is not possible. 00:43:28.30\00:43:29.80 Congress makes laws, and the judicial branch 00:43:30.57\00:43:38.01 upholds these laws and judges by these laws. 00:43:38.65\00:43:44.29 And of course, it's important to see that these laws 00:43:44.92\00:43:48.96 would expand on the Constitution and not contradict 00:43:48.99\00:43:54.70 the Constitution. 00:43:54.73\00:43:56.26 So that's what you have in the Torah. 00:43:56.30\00:43:59.00 Exactly the same legal process. 00:43:59.03\00:44:03.71 So you have foundational principles, 00:44:03.74\00:44:08.31 then you have the Constitution, 00:44:08.51\00:44:11.11 and then you have ethical applications 00:44:11.31\00:44:15.98 for this Constitution. 00:44:16.18\00:44:18.62 Well, the biggest problem comes when we look 00:44:19.89\00:44:27.60 at this from the New Testament perspective without even having 00:44:28.63\00:44:33.70 the slightest idea what the Old Testament says. 00:44:33.74\00:44:37.44 And this is why we run into this problem 00:44:37.47\00:44:40.54 in Colossians 2:14, which says in the King James Bible, 00:44:40.58\00:44:45.88 "...blotting out the handwriting of ordinances 00:44:45.91\00:44:50.59 that was against us, which was contrary to us. 00:44:50.62\00:44:54.96 And took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross." 00:44:54.99\00:45:00.10 Well, this was a big, big issue back in the 19th century. 00:45:00.83\00:45:08.07 What was nailed to the cross? 00:45:08.10\00:45:10.94 The problem is that you have an apparent inconsistency here. 00:45:11.87\00:45:18.58 Look at Psalm 19 verses 7 and 8. 00:45:18.61\00:45:22.38 "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. 00:45:23.02\00:45:27.92 The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 00:45:27.96\00:45:33.40 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. 00:45:33.70\00:45:38.77 The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes." 00:45:38.80\00:45:44.57 So you can't say that the handwriting of the ordinances 00:45:45.47\00:45:50.11 is something against us and God nailed it to the cross, 00:45:50.15\00:45:57.09 and the Ten Commandments are good. 00:45:57.12\00:45:59.95 Because what was the psalmist David doing? 00:45:59.99\00:46:03.93 I mean, does the Bible contradict itself? 00:46:04.76\00:46:07.60 One of the big problems is when we look at this 00:46:09.36\00:46:14.30 and take it from the context of the passage from Deuteronomy, 00:46:14.34\00:46:21.58 which says in Deuteronomy 31 verse 26 00:46:22.64\00:46:28.48 that the Book of the Law is beside the ark of the covenant, 00:46:28.52\00:46:35.52 and it is against you. 00:46:35.79\00:46:38.73 The question is, what is the Book of the Law? 00:46:39.59\00:46:42.33 If I were to take you to one of our congregations, 00:46:43.63\00:46:49.84 Adventist Jewish congregation, most of them have actually 00:46:50.31\00:46:54.74 the scrolls of the Torah. 00:46:54.78\00:46:57.21 And I will open it up, and there will be Ten Commandments in it. 00:46:58.31\00:47:03.79 So believe me, that book which Moses finished, 00:47:05.12\00:47:09.26 the Pentateuch, did not have a torn page. 00:47:09.29\00:47:12.73 It wasn't like you go until Exodus 19 there, 00:47:13.70\00:47:17.57 and there would be a note here, "Go inside the ark to read 00:47:17.60\00:47:21.50 the content of Exodus 20." 00:47:21.54\00:47:24.01 Then there is a stitch, and everything goes. 00:47:24.44\00:47:28.31 And this is going to be against you, where the 00:47:28.34\00:47:30.71 Ten Commandments are for you. 00:47:30.75\00:47:32.71 It makes no sense. 00:47:33.55\00:47:35.18 It makes no sense. 00:47:35.52\00:47:37.29 What is the problem? 00:47:37.69\00:47:39.39 You know, the problem is that when we look at 00:47:40.16\00:47:45.06 the Old Testament, we never see the law called, handwriting." 00:47:45.09\00:47:52.57 And the current research in the new translations 00:47:55.17\00:48:00.31 especially the New American Standard Bible, 00:48:00.51\00:48:03.85 translates this text totally different. 00:48:05.11\00:48:08.28 I'm reading the New American Standard Bible, 00:48:09.32\00:48:11.95 "Having cancelled out the certificate of debt 00:48:11.99\00:48:17.79 consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; 00:48:17.83\00:48:24.60 and He has taken it out of the way, 00:48:24.63\00:48:28.70 having nailed it to the cross." 00:48:28.74\00:48:31.14 If you look at most modern translations... 00:48:31.81\00:48:36.11 I'm not going to, I don't have time to describe to you 00:48:36.14\00:48:39.65 how the modern scholarship discovered the meaning of 00:48:39.75\00:48:44.99 this Greek term, cheirographon dogmasin. 00:48:45.02\00:48:49.36 I would only say this: 00:48:49.79\00:48:52.43 That in the Greek of the 1st century, 00:48:52.46\00:48:56.13 in Roman court language, dogma was the accusation 00:48:56.16\00:49:02.80 that was actually nailed to the cross above the head 00:49:02.84\00:49:08.81 of the criminal so the people would know 00:49:09.01\00:49:13.28 what he is accused of. 00:49:13.31\00:49:15.78 Jesus had a dogma above His head. 00:49:17.29\00:49:23.36 The dogma stated, "King of the Jews." 00:49:23.46\00:49:27.76 And we have dogma over our head. 00:49:28.90\00:49:33.67 Each of us knows what do we owe and what is our debt. 00:49:34.90\00:49:42.74 And God knows. 00:49:44.01\00:49:45.35 And He offers the solution. 00:49:45.38\00:49:47.75 To nail it to the cross once and for all. 00:49:48.42\00:49:54.16 Well the question is, now can we really keep 00:49:55.16\00:50:03.87 all 613 commandments of the Torah? 00:50:03.90\00:50:08.24 Well, not so simple. 00:50:10.54\00:50:12.67 How about this? 00:50:13.04\00:50:14.38 Leviticus 24:16 00:50:14.41\00:50:17.05 "And whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord 00:50:17.71\00:50:22.05 shall surely be put to death." 00:50:22.08\00:50:26.22 Okay, let us turn into some Saudi Arabian. 00:50:27.66\00:50:33.76 Alright? 00:50:34.73\00:50:36.06 Or especially in the setting of the church. 00:50:38.00\00:50:42.47 Yeah? 00:50:43.24\00:50:44.57 Somebody comes and says something against God, 00:50:44.61\00:50:47.71 do you have in your church some storage for stones? 00:50:48.28\00:50:52.95 You know, that's a question, that's a question. 00:50:56.38\00:51:00.16 And here is the reason why. 00:51:00.66\00:51:02.56 This is the answer that is provided to us by Paul 00:51:03.63\00:51:09.23 when Paul talks and describes the relations between 00:51:10.87\00:51:15.24 the old and the new covenants. 00:51:15.27\00:51:17.97 Hebrews chapter 8 verse 13 says, 00:51:19.11\00:51:23.98 "In that He says, 'A new covenant,' He has made 00:51:25.08\00:51:29.82 the first obsolete. 00:51:29.85\00:51:32.42 Now what is becoming obsolete is growing old 00:51:32.45\00:51:38.89 and ready to vanish away." 00:51:39.19\00:51:42.46 "Oh," people say, "Great. 00:51:43.53\00:51:45.87 That's the proof that we don't need all the laws." 00:51:46.10\00:51:49.64 The big problem often in our Bibles is that they place 00:51:51.04\00:51:54.91 chapter division and verse division artificially, you know. 00:51:54.94\00:51:58.95 You have to read a little further. 00:51:59.35\00:52:01.12 And the next chapter describes what the old covenant 00:52:01.55\00:52:06.86 is all about. 00:52:06.89\00:52:08.22 And it says, "Indeed, even the first covenant 00:52:08.26\00:52:12.23 had ordinances of divine service in the earthly Sanctuary. 00:52:12.26\00:52:19.50 For a tabernacle was prepared." 00:52:20.34\00:52:23.14 And it says next, "It was symbolic for the present time 00:52:23.41\00:52:29.31 in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered 00:52:29.34\00:52:33.82 which cannot make him who performed the service 00:52:33.85\00:52:38.15 perfect in regard to the conscience; 00:52:38.19\00:52:41.46 concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, 00:52:41.76\00:52:46.43 and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation." 00:52:46.46\00:52:52.30 So that's what the old covenant, by the definition of Paul, 00:52:53.40\00:52:59.17 clearly presented in the epistle to Hebrews. 00:52:59.27\00:53:06.25 The old covenant is not the law. 00:53:06.75\00:53:09.52 It is a Sanctuary service, and anything pertaining to it. 00:53:10.19\00:53:18.19 Because we have a perfect Sanctuary, 00:53:19.53\00:53:23.53 and a perfect High Priest. 00:53:24.43\00:53:27.24 You know, there are so many people today who are obsessed 00:53:29.10\00:53:34.84 about the restoration of the temple. 00:53:34.88\00:53:38.31 And to be honest, I was very surprised. 00:53:39.85\00:53:46.29 Being Jewish, I was very surprised that Christians are 00:53:46.76\00:53:52.33 worried about the restoration of the temple in Jerusalem. 00:53:52.36\00:53:56.16 And I was listening to all of the presentations 00:53:57.43\00:54:03.37 and reading all of the books, and I realized 00:54:03.41\00:54:07.91 how many Christians just don't understand 00:54:07.94\00:54:12.61 what is happening in Jewish circles. 00:54:12.65\00:54:15.85 I will give you one of the difficulties in the restoration 00:54:17.05\00:54:21.26 of the temple. 00:54:21.29\00:54:22.89 It's finding a high priest. 00:54:23.59\00:54:25.83 They don't know who should be the high priest. 00:54:27.50\00:54:30.53 I mean, yes, you can have some descendants of the 00:54:31.03\00:54:35.00 tribes of Levi. 00:54:35.04\00:54:36.77 And especially... 00:54:37.67\00:54:39.17 I have my good friend, he gave his testimony; Rushel Aronov. 00:54:39.71\00:54:44.85 And he's from, definitely he is from a priestly lineage. 00:54:45.01\00:54:52.02 Is he suppose to become a high priest? 00:54:52.22\00:54:55.19 There are tens of thousands like him. 00:54:55.96\00:55:01.26 Whom do they choose? 00:55:01.73\00:55:03.26 I'm so glad I don't have to worry. 00:55:05.57\00:55:07.90 I have my High Priest. 00:55:10.27\00:55:12.14 Jesus. 00:55:14.04\00:55:15.38 Yeshua Ha'Mashiach, in Hebrew. 00:55:16.08\00:55:20.95 He is in the heavenly Sanctuary 00:55:21.35\00:55:25.32 performing the priestly service for me and for you. 00:55:26.49\00:55:33.93 And this is why I'm not worried about the temple in Jerusalem. 00:55:35.83\00:55:41.14 I am more worried that my brothers, Jews, would understand 00:55:41.97\00:55:48.94 who is their High Priest today. 00:55:48.98\00:55:51.71 And I am worried that everybody else would understand 00:55:52.48\00:55:57.15 who is the High Priest today 00:55:57.19\00:55:59.95 who bore our iniquity, who died for us on Calvary. 00:56:00.96\00:56:07.70 And now He is representing us in heaven. 00:56:07.73\00:56:13.03 That is the greatest sense of security. 00:56:14.87\00:56:18.41 That is the new covenant. 00:56:18.44\00:56:22.14 Let us pray. 00:56:23.04\00:56:24.38 Heavenly Father, help us to understand 00:56:25.75\00:56:31.95 the value of Your covenant. 00:56:31.99\00:56:35.42 Help us to understand the sacrifice You have made, 00:56:35.79\00:56:41.86 and understand what You are doing for us right now 00:56:42.60\00:56:47.44 in heaven being our High Priest. 00:56:47.47\00:56:51.64 Not human sinful, but sinless and divine. 00:56:51.67\00:56:57.48 Help us to anchor our hope inside the veil 00:56:58.01\00:57:06.25 where You are our Advocate and Representative. 00:57:06.79\00:57:12.39 Thank You, Lord, for this. 00:57:12.96\00:57:15.10 Amen. 00:57:15.46\00:57:16.80
