my heart in a powerful way.

may not be going through cancer,

I had a wonderful opportunity
today to call a gentleman

that I have really never met.

But he had done a favor for me.

I had left
something of a valuable nature

at the Sligo
Seventh-day Adventist Church

this past Sunday
while attending a wedding.

And this gentleman
had found it for me.

If you've ever left something
behind, a cell phone or

camera, or a purse, or
maybe even your computer,

you know how
uncomfortable that is.

And you can't always
remember exactly where it

was that you left it.

But this gentleman happened to
have found it and he returned it

to my office in Silver Springs.

So I called him
today and I wanted to

express my appreciation.

And when he learned
that I was here at 3ABN,

he was so excited and he
said, "Pastor Kibble, preach."

He said, "Preach, brother."

He said, "Because
I'm ready to go home.

And I believe that sentiment...

...is celebrated in the
hearts and in the lives of

so many pilgrims today.

most important thing in life

I want to lift up this evening
Mark chapter 5 verses 25 to 34.

However, our sermonic text
is captured in the 28th verse

of Mark's gospel chapter 5.
00:12:30.10\00:12:33.04
And it says
simply and succinctly,
00:12:34.87\00:12:37.85
"If I may but touch His
clothes, I shall be made whole."
00:12:39.48\00:12:48.88
"If I may but touch His clothes,
00:12:50.32\00:12:54.18
I shall be made whole."

Before I speak to you, please

Twelve years is a
long time to suffer.

Twelve years is a
mighty long time to suffer from

one single serious ailment.
00:14:16.21\00:14:22.60
Twelve years is a
terribly long time to suffer
00:14:24.85\00:14:30.68
without one single ray of hope.

Think about it.

Twelve years is a long
time for anybody to suffer.

But that was the condition
of this woman in our text.

For twelve long years,
incessantly, perennially,

without
interruption, she experienced

a continuous discharge.

For twelve long
years she had an issue,

a flow, a flux,
a flood of blood.

And the Greek word used in
our text means, a morbid flow.

It was debilitating.

It made her weak.

It was embarrassing.

It was impoverishing
and it was discouraging.

When someone is
bleeding continuously,

their heart rate is
going to be faster and harder.

Their electrolytes are
going to be out of balance.

It's going to be very
easy for them to go into shock.

They're going to suffer
from high blood pressure,

and low iron, and low oxygen.

There are going to be days
when you're going to experience

vertigo because
things are not in balance.

You're going to feel
as if you may pass out,

or you may just fall.

The red and white blood cells
are not going to be sufficient

to fight off infections.

So if someone has another
illness, you're going to be

prone to that illness as well.

The bone marrow is
going to be weakened.

I remember a
conversation that I had with

a fellow colleague
who is now deceased.

Pastor Paul Monk.

He was fighting cancer and
he was in Walter Reed Hospital
00:17:17.65\00:17:21.46
there in the
greater Washington area.
00:17:21.49\00:17:24.87
You know, it's one
thing to look in the mirror
00:17:29.37\00:17:31.54
and see that you're aging.
00:17:32.09\00:17:33.92
But what he said to
me was, "You know, Alvin,
00:17:36.76\00:17:39.43
I had to witness my own demise.
00:17:39.46\00:17:45.03
I saw myself dying."
00:17:45.06\00:17:48.22
She was dying.
00:17:50.80\00:17:52.37
This little lady was dying.
00:17:53.16\00:17:55.83
And it was visible
even to her own eyes.

For twelve long years she
suffered a morbid flux of blood.

And she had tried
desperately to find a solution

for her problem.

Life was precious for her.
00:18:18.66\00:18:20.55
She loved life.
00:18:23.18\00:18:24.66
She had dreams and aspirations.
00:18:25.78\00:18:28.85
Perhaps at one time she
may have even had a lover,

or a fiancé.
00:18:38.35\00:18:39.78
She may have had career plans.
00:18:41.32\00:18:43.52
Probably she wanted to have
children and to raise a family.

She loves life as
much as anyone does.

And she has tried
every suggested remedy,

but the blood has
continued its cursed flow.

The doctors in the
region know her by name.

And her visits to them have
depleted all of her finances.

Luke states it simply, and
you can almost feel the pain

in doctor Luke's words as
he said, "A woman having an
00:19:21.23\00:19:26.11
issue of blood twelve years
who had spent all of her living
00:19:26.14\00:19:31.04
on physicians."
00:19:31.07\00:19:32.67
Clearly there was no
Obamacare for this woman.
00:19:34.34\00:19:38.45
And ironically, high
medical costs is no new thing.
00:19:40.19\00:19:44.61
Some physicians, even back
then, would take your money
00:19:45.77\00:19:51.22
whether they helped you or not.
00:19:54.45\00:19:56.32
Think how this
woman must have felt
00:19:58.87\00:20:01.96
when time after time after
time the physician examining her
00:20:03.38\00:20:11.42
would shake his head
and say, "I'm really sorry,
00:20:11.45\00:20:19.51
but there's
nothing else I can do."

For twelve years this
little woman with a morbid
00:20:26.41\00:20:31.09
flux of blood went to the
doctors and spent all she had,
00:20:31.50\00:20:37.63
and grew worse in the process.

Are you getting this?

But one day...

I said one day.
00:20:47.65\00:20:49.21
...she got word
concerning another doctor.

A new doctor in the region.

A new kind of doctor.

He had no office.

He had no fixed hours.
00:21:02.19\00:21:04.18
He had no medical tools.
00:21:04.60\00:21:06.66
He had no medical kit.

He didn't even have the
customary medical credentials.

He was no general
practitioner, knowing a little
00:21:13.78\00:21:16.97
about most maladies.

And He was no
specialist who concentrated
00:21:19.23\00:21:22.83
on one field of medicine.

Now I suppose that if
any label fitted Him at all,

it was that of total specialist.
00:21:30.23\00:21:33.79
Because the Bible said He
healed all manner of diseases.
00:21:34.85\00:21:40.66
This ailing, failing,
dying woman heard about a
00:21:41.27\00:21:45.70
new Doctor whose name was Jesus.
00:21:45.73\00:21:49.22
And her heart filled
up and her hopes revived.
00:21:50.31\00:21:53.83
Hearing of the cures
that He had performed,
00:21:53.86\00:21:56.45
she felt assured that
if she could only go to Him
00:21:56.48\00:22:00.48
that she would be healed.
00:22:01.64\00:22:03.39
So in weakness and in
suffering, she mustered up
00:22:05.01\00:22:10.39
all the strength that she
had and she came to the seaside
00:22:10.42\00:22:15.08
where He was teaching.
00:22:15.38\00:22:16.97
She tried to press
through the crowd, but in vain.
00:22:17.35\00:22:20.59
Again, she followed Him
to the house of Levi Matthew.
00:22:21.02\00:22:24.98
But she was still
unable to reach Him.
00:22:25.36\00:22:27.54
Because as soon as they
arrived a man named Jairus,
00:22:27.89\00:22:32.24
a ruler of the synagogue,
made his way through the crowd
00:22:32.61\00:22:37.59
and came to see
Jesus in great distress.
00:22:38.51\00:22:41.76
He cast himself at
Jesus' feet and said, "Master,
00:22:42.41\00:22:46.26
please come to my house.
00:22:46.29\00:22:48.09
I don't have but one daughter.
00:22:48.34\00:22:50.11
She's twelve years of
age, and she's dying."

Well this little lady
was no match for Jairus.

The very fact that
she is known by name,
00:23:02.77\00:23:05.71
whereas doctor
Jairus was clearly known,
00:23:07.39\00:23:11.74
means that he had easier access.
00:23:13.40\00:23:16.29
In fact, his
entourage made a way for him.
00:23:16.32\00:23:20.34
He didn't have to
push through the crowd.
00:23:20.83\00:23:22.89
He had position
and he had power.
00:23:23.33\00:23:26.11
And so his entourage
pushed people out of the way,
00:23:26.71\00:23:29.70
"Get out of the way, move.
00:23:29.73\00:23:31.13
Can't you see that Jairus
is trying to get to Jesus?"
00:23:31.16\00:23:34.75
And Jairus saw Jesus.
00:23:37.71\00:23:41.98
He stated his case.

He made his plea.
00:23:45.46\00:23:46.88
And Jesus, sensitive to
every need, set out at once

for the ruler's home.

So what does this
little unnamed woman do now?

She has about three options.

She can turn around and
head for home and continue

to witness her own demise.

She can stay where she is
for a while and let her mind

fill up with
thoughts of self pity,

and why Jesus would
see Jairus and not her.

You ever been there?

Or she can press on
in pursuit of the Master.
