Welcome to Anchors Of Truth 00:00:12.91\00:00:15.04 live from the 3ABN Worship Center. 00:00:15.07\00:00:17.56 Well tonight we are with part two of this series, 00:00:22.86\00:00:27.70 The Revelation of Whom, with Pastor Lee Venden. 00:00:27.73\00:00:31.36 And I am looking forward to tonight's subject. 00:00:31.66\00:00:34.53 Because last night's subject was something that really 00:00:34.56\00:00:38.42 opened my eyes to some new concepts and new views 00:00:38.45\00:00:42.57 of the hot and the cold and the Laodicean of Revelation. 00:00:42.84\00:00:49.44 Tonight we're going to continue in the book of Revelation 00:00:49.67\00:00:52.62 with, Who Gets the Glory. 00:00:52.99\00:00:54.96 And I tell you, one of my favorite songs is, 00:00:55.71\00:00:59.64 To God Be The Glory. 00:00:59.84\00:01:01.69 And I cannot believe that it is not going to be answered 00:01:02.26\00:01:07.72 in that same way tonight. 00:01:07.75\00:01:09.27 Because I believe that is exactly what 00:01:09.30\00:01:12.22 Pastor Lee Venden is going to be sharing with us. 00:01:12.25\00:01:15.44 If you don't know who Lee Venden is, he is a pastor 00:01:15.77\00:01:18.94 of over 30 years in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:01:18.97\00:01:22.37 And he and his wife, Marji, have been married, I think, 00:01:22.71\00:01:26.20 36 years, and they have two wonderful children. 00:01:26.23\00:01:30.88 And he's educated, of course, in our schools. 00:01:31.27\00:01:35.19 His father was also a pastor, 00:01:35.81\00:01:38.50 and his grandfather was a pastor. 00:01:38.53\00:01:41.03 And I don't know how far it goes back. 00:01:41.06\00:01:44.14 And each pastor is in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:01:44.17\00:01:48.24 He is now the Revivalist in the Upper Columbia Conference. 00:01:48.55\00:01:53.43 And we have appreciated very much his being with us. 00:01:53.64\00:01:58.94 He's going to be leading us in prayer before 00:01:59.47\00:02:02.61 the sermon tonight. 00:02:02.64\00:02:04.75 And before he comes, I'm going to ask our good friend 00:02:05.08\00:02:09.06 C.A. Murray to sing for us, I'll Tell The World. 00:02:09.09\00:02:15.43 I'll tell the world that I'm a Christian, 00:02:33.63\00:02:40.54 I'm not ashamed His name to bear. 00:02:40.57\00:02:47.79 I'll tell the world that I'm a Christian, 00:02:47.82\00:02:54.84 I'll take Him with me everywhere. 00:02:54.87\00:03:01.99 I'll tell the world how Jesus saved me, 00:03:02.02\00:03:09.29 and how He gave me a life brand new. 00:03:09.32\00:03:17.57 And I know that if you trust Him, 00:03:17.60\00:03:23.55 that all He gave me He'll give to you. 00:03:23.58\00:03:33.51 I'll tell the world that He's my Savior, 00:03:34.23\00:03:41.38 no other one could love me so. 00:03:41.41\00:03:48.61 My life, my all, is His forever, 00:03:48.64\00:03:55.76 and where He leads me I will go. 00:03:55.79\00:04:04.24 I'll tell the world Jesus is coming, 00:04:07.09\00:04:13.37 and it may be near or far, far away. 00:04:13.40\00:04:20.96 But we've got to live as if that coming 00:04:20.99\00:04:28.08 could be tomorrow or today. 00:04:28.28\00:04:35.08 For when He comes and life is over, 00:04:35.11\00:04:42.19 for those who love Him there's more to be. 00:04:42.22\00:04:50.79 Eyes have never seen the wonders 00:04:50.82\00:04:56.95 that He's preparing for you and me. 00:04:56.98\00:05:06.41 Go tell the world that you're a Christian, 00:05:07.90\00:05:14.40 don't be ashamed His name to bear. 00:05:14.43\00:05:21.55 Just tell the world that you are a Christian, 00:05:21.58\00:05:28.70 and take Him with you everywhere. 00:05:28.73\00:05:36.92 I'll tell the world how Jesus saved me, 00:05:38.19\00:05:46.83 and how He gave me a life brand new. 00:05:46.86\00:05:55.04 And I know that if you trust Him, 00:05:55.07\00:06:01.02 that all He gave to me He'll give to you. 00:06:01.05\00:06:10.97 I'll tell the world that I'm a Christian, 00:06:12.54\00:06:18.83 I'm not ashamed His name to bear. 00:06:18.86\00:06:25.87 I'll tell the world that I'm a Christian, 00:06:25.90\00:06:33.03 I'll take Him with me anywhere. 00:06:33.33\00:06:40.34 I'll take Him with me anywhere. 00:06:40.85\00:06:50.76 I want to pray again, so I'm just going to ask you to 00:07:15.16\00:07:18.73 join me as we do that. 00:07:18.76\00:07:20.76 Lord Jesus, I know I am insufficient. 00:07:25.62\00:07:28.99 And I am asking for You to distribute some loaves and 00:07:30.96\00:07:35.95 some fishes for us. 00:07:35.98\00:07:37.67 I remember when the disciples were there, that You said, 00:07:38.74\00:07:41.92 "Feed them," and they said, "We don't have anything." 00:07:41.95\00:07:44.08 And You, "Well, here. 00:07:44.11\00:07:47.27 We'll take this little boy's lunch and we'll distribute it. 00:07:47.88\00:07:50.51 Please Lord Jesus, hand out the loaves and fishes to us tonight. 00:07:50.54\00:07:54.52 Use me in any way that You can. 00:07:54.55\00:07:56.43 But may the message come from You. 00:07:57.09\00:08:00.10 And Lord, also would You just give us the ears and the eyes, 00:08:00.72\00:08:04.46 the spiritual eyesight, the glasses and the hearing aids 00:08:04.49\00:08:07.01 that we need spiritually to hear Your voice 00:08:07.04\00:08:10.20 speaking from this book, Your book. 00:08:10.23\00:08:12.78 I pray this in Your name, Lord Jesus, amen. 00:08:13.11\00:08:15.77 We are continuing to look for Jesus in the book of Revelation. 00:08:20.30\00:08:25.44 Looking for Jesus in His own book. 00:08:25.47\00:08:27.87 And tonight we're going to specifically look for Him 00:08:28.39\00:08:31.13 in a portion of the book that is known as the 00:08:31.54\00:08:35.30 three angels' portion. 00:08:35.33\00:08:37.74 The three angels' messages of Revelation 14. 00:08:38.03\00:08:41.12 Now traditionally, when Seventh-day Adventists 00:08:41.83\00:08:45.95 think about what are the three angel's messages 00:08:45.98\00:08:49.17 in Revelation 14, the traditional sort of 00:08:49.20\00:08:55.21 thought that comes to most of our minds 00:08:55.41\00:08:58.03 would be, first of all, a warning about the judgment 00:08:58.23\00:09:02.38 in verse 7, a plea to stay out of false churches in verse 8, 00:09:02.41\00:09:07.88 and an indictment of the beast in verse 9. 00:09:08.63\00:09:12.38 That's the typical way that we tend to unpack 00:09:12.41\00:09:15.41 these three angels. 00:09:15.44\00:09:16.60 But I am highly motivated to look for Jesus 00:09:16.63\00:09:22.60 in this message. 00:09:22.97\00:09:24.60 And in fact, over the years I have gathered an assortment... 00:09:25.42\00:09:30.73 In fact, I have more than fourteen of them. 00:09:30.76\00:09:32.76 ...of quotations from inspired commentators 00:09:33.01\00:09:36.95 that I write in the front of my Bible. 00:09:37.15\00:09:39.66 And they say things like this, "Never should any message 00:09:40.11\00:09:46.70 or any doctrine be preached or given that doesn't make Jesus 00:09:46.73\00:09:51.13 the heart and core and central pivotal theme." 00:09:51.16\00:09:54.35 So I'm thinking, let's try to do that with the three angels. 00:09:54.69\00:09:59.35 I already mentioned, if you ask most people what 00:10:01.30\00:10:04.00 they think of, let's take the first angel's message 00:10:04.03\00:10:06.66 for example, they would probably say, "The hour of God's 00:10:06.69\00:10:10.11 judgment is come." 00:10:10.14\00:10:12.29 That's the typical. 00:10:12.78\00:10:14.04 But is that really the message? 00:10:14.61\00:10:16.35 Is that really the message? 00:10:17.24\00:10:19.30 Revelation 14:6 says, "Then I saw another angel 00:10:19.83\00:10:23.55 flying in the midst of heaven..." 00:10:23.58\00:10:25.41 Now underline that word, "everlasting." 00:10:28.31\00:10:31.31 And then underline, "gospel." 00:10:31.78\00:10:33.33 So, the message is the everlasting gospel. 00:10:43.90\00:10:49.10 This angel is setting us up for the three messages 00:10:49.13\00:10:53.14 that are coming, see. 00:10:53.17\00:10:54.27 And he says it's the everlasting gospel. 00:10:54.56\00:10:56.53 Now, let me ask you a question. 00:10:56.56\00:10:59.83 What's the everlasting gospel? 00:11:02.34\00:11:05.16 What is it? 00:11:06.33\00:11:07.50 If it's to be given to every nation, every kindred, 00:11:09.98\00:11:13.74 every tongue, and every people, would that include Muslims? 00:11:13.77\00:11:18.56 Yeah. 00:11:19.60\00:11:20.63 Would that include Buddhists? 00:11:20.93\00:11:23.61 Yeah. 00:11:24.08\00:11:25.16 So what would be the message that we would need to take 00:11:26.28\00:11:28.46 to Muslims and Buddhists? 00:11:28.49\00:11:30.52 Watch out for judgment, stay out of false churches, 00:11:30.55\00:11:33.59 and beware of the beast? 00:11:33.62\00:11:35.16 What would Muslims and Buddhists do with that kind of a message? 00:11:35.62\00:11:38.52 Actually, that's not the message we're to take. 00:11:39.52\00:11:41.41 We're suppose to take the everlasting gospel. 00:11:41.44\00:11:45.07 That's the message. 00:11:45.50\00:11:46.67 So what is the everlasting gospel? 00:11:46.70\00:11:48.79 Revelation 14:7... 00:11:48.82\00:11:50.47 "For the hour of His judgment is come," is in the message. 00:12:05.18\00:12:09.21 It's there. 00:12:09.97\00:12:11.00 But it's not "the" message. 00:12:12.39\00:12:14.42 It's in it, but it's not "the" message. 00:12:15.80\00:12:18.12 It's only a part. 00:12:18.15\00:12:19.30 And I will suggest that it's a significant part, 00:12:19.33\00:12:21.94 but it's not "the" message. 00:12:21.97\00:12:25.49 For starters, we noticed a moment ago, and I told you 00:12:26.50\00:12:29.15 to underline it. 00:12:29.18\00:12:30.35 It's the everlasting gospel that we're to take to every 00:12:30.66\00:12:34.30 kindred, tongue, nation, and people. 00:12:34.33\00:12:36.77 Well is, "the hour of God's judgment," 00:12:38.34\00:12:42.47 the everlasting gospel? 00:12:42.50\00:12:43.89 According to Daniel, the hour of God's judgment 00:12:43.93\00:12:46.85 began in the 1800's. 00:12:46.88\00:12:49.32 So now if something began in the 1800's, 00:12:50.96\00:12:53.40 it wouldn't be everlasting. 00:12:53.43\00:12:54.98 Right? 00:12:55.61\00:12:56.69 So it's going to have to be something other than 00:12:57.30\00:12:59.72 something that began in the 1800's. 00:12:59.75\00:13:03.52 What is the "everlasting" part of this message? 00:13:04.19\00:13:08.71 What is it? 00:13:08.77\00:13:09.80 Well in order to figure it out, my preacher father 00:13:09.83\00:13:14.37 decided to try and do something that you might remember 00:13:15.39\00:13:19.65 having to do when you were in elementary school. 00:13:19.68\00:13:22.10 Or maybe you did it in high school, I don't know where. 00:13:22.31\00:13:24.99 I kind of forget now where it was, 00:13:25.02\00:13:26.90 but it was diagramming sentences. 00:13:26.93\00:13:29.51 I did not look forward to that part of my education, 00:13:29.71\00:13:32.72 diagramming sentences. 00:13:32.75\00:13:33.87 And since having finished school, I still don't 00:13:33.90\00:13:38.20 look for opportunities to diagram sentences. 00:13:38.23\00:13:40.81 One of the things I've discovered is that when you 00:13:41.19\00:13:43.26 diagram a sentence, there seems to be about as many 00:13:43.29\00:13:46.46 interpretations of what would be a correct way to 00:13:46.49\00:13:48.81 diagram it as there are English professors. 00:13:48.84\00:13:51.43 And so you might think you did a good job, 00:13:51.46\00:13:53.70 and then there will be someone else that'll say, 00:13:53.73\00:13:55.09 "Well, no this is..." you know. 00:13:55.12\00:13:56.69 But anyway, so my dad decided to try and see if we could 00:13:57.18\00:14:00.27 make a little more sense of what the everlasting gospel is, 00:14:00.30\00:14:04.07 or the "everlasting" part of the message is, 00:14:04.10\00:14:06.26 by diagramming the sentence. 00:14:06.57\00:14:07.85 So we're going to try and give a graphic on the screen 00:14:07.88\00:14:10.58 to show you. 00:14:10.61\00:14:11.64 This is a compound sentence. 00:14:12.52\00:14:14.60 And part one of the message was, "Fear God." 00:14:14.80\00:14:19.82 Now if you were going to diagram that, what would the verb be? 00:14:20.29\00:14:24.49 The verb would be, "fear." 00:14:25.32\00:14:27.72 Are you getting on the screen? 00:14:30.52\00:14:31.75 Yeah you're getting it. Okay. 00:14:31.78\00:14:33.12 What would the object be? 00:14:33.50\00:14:35.38 "God." 00:14:35.85\00:14:36.98 Alright, so far we have the verb and we have the object. 00:14:37.01\00:14:40.58 But what is the subject. 00:14:41.11\00:14:42.82 The subject is actually not even in the verse. 00:14:46.06\00:14:49.21 The subject is what they would say is understood. 00:14:50.46\00:14:54.55 The subject is, "you." 00:14:55.48\00:14:57.98 "You." You fear God. 00:14:58.70\00:15:02.70 "You" are the subject. 00:15:03.85\00:15:04.88 Now let's go on to part 2 of the message. 00:15:04.91\00:15:07.81 It said, "Fear God," okay. 00:15:07.84\00:15:09.29 Part 2 is, "Give glory to Him." 00:15:09.32\00:15:11.68 Alright, so what's the subject? 00:15:12.24\00:15:14.11 "You." 00:15:15.04\00:15:16.25 What's the verb? 00:15:17.01\00:15:18.42 "Give." 00:15:18.87\00:15:20.04 What's the object? 00:15:20.07\00:15:21.48 "Glory." "Glory." 00:15:22.04\00:15:23.76 So where does the, "to Him," come in? 00:15:23.96\00:15:25.79 I guess I'd call it a prepositional phrase, 00:15:26.72\00:15:29.21 but maybe someone will tell me that's not right. 00:15:29.24\00:15:31.01 But anyway, for the sake of our diagram, 00:15:31.04\00:15:32.55 I put it as a prepositional phrase. 00:15:32.76\00:15:34.79 Alright? 00:15:34.82\00:15:35.85 But once again, you see the subject is, "you." 00:15:35.96\00:15:38.87 Understood. 00:15:39.44\00:15:40.49 Now let's come to the third part. 00:15:41.28\00:15:42.91 "Worship Him." 00:15:43.70\00:15:45.06 Alright. 00:15:46.13\00:15:47.25 The verb is, "worship." 00:15:47.59\00:15:48.66 The object is, "Him." 00:15:49.45\00:15:51.06 But what's the subject? 00:15:51.52\00:15:52.78 Once again it's, "you." It's understood. 00:15:53.39\00:15:55.26 Alright? 00:15:56.29\00:15:57.32 So now, after the "everlasting" part... 00:15:57.35\00:16:01.84 Because these are the "everlasting" parts. 00:16:01.87\00:16:03.89 After the "everlasting" parts, where does judgment fit in. 00:16:04.57\00:16:08.90 Well it sounds a little bit like a prepositional phrase; 00:16:10.32\00:16:15.17 "The hour of God's judgment is come." 00:16:15.20\00:16:16.78 Maybe. 00:16:16.81\00:16:17.85 My dad thought maybe it would be a prepositional phrase. 00:16:20.97\00:16:25.10 And he suggested that, a little bit unsure of himself 00:16:25.13\00:16:28.07 when he did, in a meeting. 00:16:28.10\00:16:30.37 And it was actually being held at the Pacific Press. 00:16:31.16\00:16:34.48 And the people who were workers at the Pacific Press 00:16:34.88\00:16:37.29 were there in the audience. 00:16:37.32\00:16:38.35 And he suggested that it may be a prepositional phrase. 00:16:38.38\00:16:41.34 But a book editor told him actually it wasn't. 00:16:41.37\00:16:44.58 "The hour of God's judgment" was actually an 00:16:45.23\00:16:47.08 adverbial clause, he said. 00:16:47.11\00:16:49.49 An adverbial clause. 00:16:49.67\00:16:50.70 Aren't you glad to know that? 00:16:50.73\00:16:51.81 Are you going to sleep better tonight knowing that it's 00:16:51.84\00:16:54.30 an adverbial clause? 00:16:54.33\00:16:55.75 My dad felt good knowing that he had this from an editor. 00:16:56.17\00:16:58.82 So the next time he was speaking on this subject, 00:16:58.85\00:17:01.93 he was actually speaking at Loma Linda University. 00:17:01.96\00:17:05.19 And he said that it was an adverbial clause 00:17:05.22\00:17:08.68 feeling that he was in, you know, that's he's going to 00:17:08.71\00:17:10.65 look a little more credible now. 00:17:10.68\00:17:11.93 But after that presentation, an English professor 00:17:12.20\00:17:15.71 from Loma Linda told him that it was not an adverbial clause. 00:17:15.74\00:17:19.62 She hated to disagree with the book editor from the 00:17:19.65\00:17:22.37 Pacific Press, but that it actually was a 00:17:22.40\00:17:24.44 conjunctive clause. 00:17:24.47\00:17:26.36 Well dad, you know, he wanted to do the right thing. 00:17:26.70\00:17:30.35 And he thought, "I suppose an English professor 00:17:30.38\00:17:32.85 has rank over a book editor." 00:17:32.88\00:17:34.71 And so, you know, the next time he presented on this subject, 00:17:34.74\00:17:38.64 he said, "The hour of God's judgment," 00:17:38.67\00:17:41.28 feeling like he had some authority behind him now, 00:17:41.31\00:17:43.32 he said, "the hour of God's judgment," is a 00:17:43.35\00:17:45.05 conjunctive clause. 00:17:45.08\00:17:46.92 Well he was preaching that at Andrews University, 00:17:47.10\00:17:50.15 and a Greek professor caught him after the meeting 00:17:50.35\00:17:54.54 and said, "Actually, if you look at it in the original language, 00:17:54.57\00:17:57.88 the best way we could, what we'd call it, 00:17:57.91\00:18:00.11 it would be a causal clause." 00:18:00.44\00:18:03.52 "The hour of God's judgment," is a causal clause. 00:18:03.77\00:18:06.98 So in order to be safe tonight, because I don't want to run 00:18:07.32\00:18:10.85 the risk that my dad ran, I'm going to refer to, 00:18:10.88\00:18:14.53 "The hour of God's judgment," as a 00:18:14.56\00:18:16.49 causal adverbial conjunctive prepositional phrase clause. 00:18:16.52\00:18:20.55 Alright? 00:18:21.23\00:18:22.26 And that ought to cover it. 00:18:22.29\00:18:23.72 But what's the real point? 00:18:24.35\00:18:26.10 The real point is that, "The hour of God's judgment," 00:18:26.36\00:18:30.05 is subsidiary to and not the main part of the message. 00:18:30.08\00:18:35.99 Okay? 00:18:36.39\00:18:37.42 It's not the main part. 00:18:37.63\00:18:39.62 It's subsidiary to the main message. 00:18:40.07\00:18:43.25 The main message is, "You fear God," 00:18:43.53\00:18:47.10 "You give glory to Him," "You worship Him," 00:18:47.13\00:18:51.59 "for the hour of His judgment is come." 00:18:51.62\00:18:54.37 See? 00:18:54.92\00:18:55.95 Well, this is a common thread. 00:18:57.37\00:19:02.31 And we're going to be unpacking the three angels looking for 00:19:02.34\00:19:04.85 Jesus in them in these next few presentations. 00:19:04.88\00:19:08.61 We're going to notice something that I'm going to draw your 00:19:08.84\00:19:11.04 attention to right now, and that is this; 00:19:11.07\00:19:12.66 there's a common thread in all three messages. 00:19:12.69\00:19:15.65 And that common thread is... 00:19:15.68\00:19:17.13 That's the common thread. 00:19:30.73\00:19:32.30 And you're going to see that common threat 00:19:32.33\00:19:34.45 going all the way through the angels' messages. 00:19:35.01\00:19:39.29 I'm told that the British Navy, in order to identify 00:19:39.32\00:19:42.35 the ropes that they use in their rigging, have a scarlet thread 00:19:42.38\00:19:46.12 that goes through the center of all of their braided rope. 00:19:46.15\00:19:48.95 And they can tell their rope in a heartbeat 00:19:48.98\00:19:51.20 because it's the rope with the scarlet thread going through it. 00:19:51.23\00:19:53.73 That belongs to the British Navy. 00:19:53.76\00:19:55.34 The thread going through the three angels' messages 00:19:55.67\00:19:58.95 is a warning against self worship or self dependence, 00:19:58.98\00:20:02.27 and an invitation to the deeper life of faith, 00:20:02.55\00:20:04.45 especially in the time of judgment. 00:20:04.48\00:20:05.77 So at this point I'd like to read three paragraphs 00:20:05.80\00:20:09.54 that were written to our church many years ago. 00:20:09.57\00:20:13.42 The first one comes from a manuscript, Manuscript 15. 00:20:13.77\00:20:18.10 It was written in 1888, and this is what it says. 00:20:18.13\00:20:20.76 "...but few, even of those who claim to understand it..." 00:20:36.23\00:20:40.78 Here's the second paragraph. 00:20:41.86\00:20:43.37 Testimonies, volume 5. 00:20:43.40\00:20:45.63 Wow. 00:20:55.81\00:20:56.86 And here comes the third one from the book called, 00:20:57.74\00:20:59.47 Evangelism, page 196. 00:20:59.50\00:21:01.59 Now let me ask you a question. 00:21:20.27\00:21:21.88 Is, "watch out for the beast," the only hope for a 00:21:22.18\00:21:26.27 perishing world? 00:21:26.30\00:21:27.87 Actually, it's not. 00:21:28.58\00:21:29.83 Towards the end of the nineteenth century there was 00:21:31.88\00:21:34.40 a group of people who got very excited 00:21:34.43\00:21:38.48 about the subject of Jesus and His righteousness, 00:21:38.51\00:21:42.53 and His matchless charms, and the privilege of having 00:21:42.56\00:21:46.84 a personal meaningful intimate ongoing relationship with Him. 00:21:46.87\00:21:52.15 They got very excited about that 00:21:52.18\00:21:53.78 back towards the end of the nineteenth century. 00:21:54.49\00:21:57.20 And they got so excited that there was another group... 00:21:57.82\00:22:01.96 Now I'm referring to some of the roots in history 00:22:02.69\00:22:05.65 of the church I belong to. 00:22:05.95\00:22:07.91 ...another group got nervous. 00:22:08.52\00:22:10.10 The old guard got nervous. 00:22:10.43\00:22:12.71 I would suggest to you that the old guard still gets nervous. 00:22:17.10\00:22:20.60 It hasn't changed, things haven't changed. 00:22:21.21\00:22:22.94 But the old guard got nervous with the focus on Jesus 00:22:23.24\00:22:26.70 and relationship. 00:22:26.73\00:22:27.76 They got nervous. 00:22:27.79\00:22:29.08 And they said, "We need to stick to our pillar doctrines." 00:22:29.37\00:22:33.04 And then they cited them. 00:22:33.07\00:22:34.36 They said, "We need to be preaching about the 00:22:34.39\00:22:36.69 seventh day Sabbath. 00:22:36.72\00:22:38.11 We need to be preaching about the condition of man in death. 00:22:38.14\00:22:41.26 We need to be preaching the 2300 day prophecy. 00:22:41.29\00:22:44.08 We need to be preaching the second coming of Christ. 00:22:44.11\00:22:46.91 We need to stick to our pillar doctrines." 00:22:46.94\00:22:50.52 They were nervous. 00:22:50.55\00:22:51.59 Well so many of the old guard wrote letters 00:22:52.31\00:22:56.49 to our church periodical expressing their concerns. 00:22:57.31\00:23:01.55 So many of them wrote letters that in the April 1st edition 00:23:01.58\00:23:10.30 of 1890 in our church periodical were penned these words 00:23:10.50\00:23:14.91 in response to the old guards concern. 00:23:14.94\00:23:17.68 "Several have written me inquiring..." 00:23:19.26\00:23:22.12 Now what does, "in verity," mean? 00:23:37.63\00:23:39.32 That would be another way of saying, 00:23:39.61\00:23:41.29 "You better believe it is." 00:23:41.32\00:23:43.82 That would be another way of saying, 00:23:44.65\00:23:46.02 "Is that the message? Oh, you bet it is." 00:23:46.05\00:23:49.78 "Absolutely, that's what it is." 00:23:50.13\00:23:52.91 Wow. 00:23:54.77\00:23:55.94 The third angel's message is the message of righteousness by 00:23:56.75\00:23:59.72 faith in Christ alone in verity. 00:23:59.75\00:24:02.65 Well how could we be so off base as to think 00:24:04.02\00:24:07.44 it was these other things? 00:24:07.47\00:24:09.72 Well maybe you're saying, "Were we really off base? 00:24:10.38\00:24:12.83 Maybe you're being a little bit hard on our pioneers. 00:24:12.86\00:24:17.16 Were we really off base?" 00:24:17.46\00:24:19.67 Well in that same journal, our church periodical, 00:24:21.36\00:24:25.74 September 3, 1889, these words were penned. 00:24:26.14\00:24:30.64 Not one in a what? 00:24:47.57\00:24:49.14 Not one in a hundred. 00:24:49.74\00:24:51.76 Understands what? 00:24:52.18\00:24:54.21 The message of justification by faith in Christ alone. 00:24:54.24\00:24:58.10 Not one in a hundred understand that. 00:24:58.13\00:24:59.95 Now just a moment ago, I read you from the same periodical 00:24:59.99\00:25:03.72 that the message of the three angels is the message 00:25:04.42\00:25:08.75 of justification by faith in Christ alone. 00:25:08.78\00:25:11.60 Just read that. 00:25:11.80\00:25:12.83 So now put these two together and use a little logic. 00:25:13.14\00:25:17.08 If it is true that justification by faith is the third angel's 00:25:17.98\00:25:22.43 message in verity, and if not one in a hundred 00:25:22.46\00:25:25.66 understand justification by faith, then the conclusion 00:25:25.69\00:25:29.70 would be that not one in a hundred understand the 00:25:29.73\00:25:32.50 three angels' messages. 00:25:32.53\00:25:33.90 And yet, it is the message of absolute and highest importance 00:25:36.23\00:25:42.28 for the world at the end of time. 00:25:43.18\00:25:44.75 I don't know if you're aware of this, but we've been told 00:25:44.78\00:25:46.85 that just before the end of time, just before Jesus comes, 00:25:46.88\00:25:49.74 during the closing scenes, this message is going to 00:25:49.77\00:25:52.40 swallow up ever other message and encircle the globe 00:25:52.43\00:25:56.00 like fire in stubble. 00:25:56.03\00:25:57.72 And yet, not one in a hundred understand it correctly. 00:25:58.76\00:26:01.62 Whoa, I'm glad those weren't my words. 00:26:02.05\00:26:04.61 Because someone might take a shot at me for saying that 00:26:05.38\00:26:07.31 if they thought it was my words. 00:26:07.34\00:26:09.16 Well you might say, "Yeah, well that was the nineteenth century, 00:26:11.18\00:26:14.68 end of the nineteenth century. 00:26:14.71\00:26:16.43 Sure glad we didn't live back then. 00:26:17.21\00:26:19.16 Sure glad we're enlightened." 00:26:19.83\00:26:21.97 Well I'm going to tell you something 00:26:25.27\00:26:26.71 about our enlightenment. 00:26:27.54\00:26:29.25 For the last five and a half years, my wife and I have 00:26:30.57\00:26:33.12 been fulltime Revivalists for the Upper Columbia Conference. 00:26:33.15\00:26:37.20 I believe that was mentioned just a few moments ago 00:26:37.77\00:26:39.76 in the introduction. 00:26:39.79\00:26:40.85 Next week we're going to be taking our "All About Jesus" 00:26:44.93\00:26:47.64 revival seminar to Kelowna British Columbia. 00:26:47.67\00:26:50.36 It will be the 100th church we've done the seminar at 00:26:50.39\00:26:53.57 since we started five and a half years ago. 00:26:53.60\00:26:55.71 Part of what we've done as we do the seminar is, 00:26:57.41\00:26:59.93 at the end we give a survey out. 00:26:59.96\00:27:02.38 It's anonymous, you don't sign your name or anything. 00:27:02.41\00:27:04.77 We ask five questions to help us understand 00:27:04.80\00:27:07.72 if we've scratched where it itched. 00:27:07.75\00:27:09.37 One of the questions, the very first question is, 00:27:10.00\00:27:13.80 "Please describe your personal spiritual life prior 00:27:13.83\00:27:17.55 to attending the "All About Jesus" revival seminar. 00:27:17.75\00:27:20.63 Then there are three choices for them to look at and circle one. 00:27:20.98\00:27:23.79 The first choice is, "Distant from God, disinterested in Him. 00:27:23.82\00:27:27.01 Fairly rebellious." 00:27:27.04\00:27:28.47 Okay, that's the first choice. 00:27:28.50\00:27:29.91 The second choice is, "Regular in church attendance, 00:27:30.33\00:27:33.46 but no daily time alone with Christ." 00:27:33.49\00:27:35.98 The third choice is, "Regular daily time with Jesus 00:27:37.03\00:27:42.01 and excited to share with others." 00:27:42.04\00:27:44.54 That's the third choice. Okay. 00:27:44.85\00:27:47.21 Now the people who would come to an "All About Jesus" 00:27:47.55\00:27:50.84 revival seminar would be the people who are 00:27:50.87\00:27:52.97 most interested in Jesus. 00:27:53.00\00:27:54.36 Right? 00:27:54.39\00:27:55.49 I mean, that's who would come to that kind of a seminar. 00:27:55.52\00:27:57.34 In any given church, the people who would come to that seminar 00:27:57.37\00:28:00.55 are the people most interested in Jesus. 00:28:00.58\00:28:02.23 I'm going to tell you what the cumulative average is. 00:28:03.38\00:28:05.88 We've taken the survey in large churches and small churches. 00:28:05.91\00:28:09.03 Churches with thousands of members, churches with 00:28:09.06\00:28:11.41 just 30 or 40 members, all over the country 00:28:11.44\00:28:14.13 and outside of the country around the world. 00:28:14.16\00:28:16.82 Alright, here's the answer. 00:28:18.63\00:28:20.79 70 to 80% of the people who attend... 00:28:21.92\00:28:26.83 ...circled B as their answer. 00:28:28.73\00:28:31.08 "Regular in church attendance, but little or no daily 00:28:31.70\00:28:35.54 time with Christ one on one." 00:28:35.57\00:28:38.59 What does that tell me? 00:28:41.90\00:28:43.12 The message of righteousness by faith in Christ alone 00:28:44.13\00:28:47.68 is about a personal relationship with Him. 00:28:50.01\00:28:54.46 That's what it's about. 00:28:54.70\00:28:56.00 It's about knowing Him as friend. 00:28:56.48\00:28:58.14 It's about communing with Him. 00:28:58.17\00:28:59.43 It's about becoming better acquainted with Him 00:28:59.46\00:29:01.02 on a daily basis. 00:29:01.05\00:29:02.08 It's about spending time in His Word. 00:29:02.11\00:29:03.56 It's about speaking to Him in prayer. 00:29:03.59\00:29:06.24 It's about sharing to others what you are learning 00:29:06.27\00:29:09.22 about this wonderful friendship that you are cultivating and 00:29:09.25\00:29:12.11 nurturing on a daily basis. 00:29:12.14\00:29:13.71 That's what it's all about. 00:29:13.74\00:29:15.19 It does not exist, righteousness by faith does not exist 00:29:15.22\00:29:18.36 outside of a relationship with Christ. 00:29:18.39\00:29:20.30 It's by faith in Christ. 00:29:21.06\00:29:22.66 So if 70 to 80% of the people who attend church 00:29:23.84\00:29:29.03 in this enlightened time that we live in 00:29:29.06\00:29:31.75 don't have a daily walk with Jesus, 00:29:32.76\00:29:35.09 then it would appear to me that they're still relevant, see. 00:29:36.39\00:29:39.23 When you're talking experiential now, not one in a hundred 00:29:41.95\00:29:46.46 understand for themselves the message of 00:29:47.36\00:29:49.36 justification by faith? 00:29:49.39\00:29:51.24 Wow. 00:29:52.49\00:29:53.52 Okay, so what is the message of justification by faith? 00:29:53.55\00:29:56.99 Testimonies to Ministers, "What is justification by faith... 00:29:57.93\00:30:01.35 Well how much can man do for himself? 00:30:12.91\00:30:14.90 Well let's just look to Jesus for the answer 00:30:17.39\00:30:20.15 on that one, shall we? 00:30:20.18\00:30:21.47 John 15:5, Jesus said... 00:30:21.50\00:30:24.79 He talks about abiding in Him. 00:30:33.68\00:30:35.42 And then He says, "Without Me, you can do nothing." 00:30:35.45\00:30:39.85 Wow, well how much is nothing? 00:30:42.21\00:30:43.59 Someone says, zero. 00:30:45.61\00:30:46.88 But actually you could say, nothing is what you have left 00:30:47.42\00:30:49.47 after you take the peeling off of a zero. 00:30:49.50\00:30:51.74 If you would peel a zero, what's left is nothing. 00:30:51.77\00:30:54.14 Nothing; Jesus said, "Without Me, you can do nothing." 00:30:55.08\00:30:57.07 Now many people like this other verse, Philippians 4:13. 00:30:57.27\00:31:00.77 They like this one a little better. 00:31:00.80\00:31:01.99 How does it read? 00:31:02.59\00:31:03.87 Now let's put those two together. 00:31:11.00\00:31:15.61 If without Him I can do nothing, 00:31:16.50\00:31:19.53 but with Him I can do all things, 00:31:20.91\00:31:23.84 then who's responsible for the "all things?" 00:31:26.09\00:31:30.81 Because see, when I'm by myself, zip. 00:31:31.74\00:31:34.45 When I'm with Him, all things. What does that mean? 00:31:34.48\00:31:37.09 It means somebody else is responsible 00:31:37.12\00:31:38.64 for the "all things," because when I'm without 00:31:38.67\00:31:40.20 Him there's nothing happening. 00:31:40.23\00:31:41.35 But with Him, everything is happening. 00:31:41.38\00:31:42.55 All things are happening. Alright. 00:31:42.58\00:31:44.39 So if He's the one responsible for the "all things," not me... 00:31:44.42\00:31:48.98 Just a moment ago, we noted that the message of 00:31:49.99\00:31:52.05 justification by faith is God doing for man what he 00:31:52.08\00:31:54.56 cannot do for himself. 00:31:54.59\00:31:55.91 Okay, if He's responsible for the "all things," 00:31:55.94\00:31:58.20 then what would be my part? 00:31:58.23\00:31:59.58 What would be my part? What would be my job? 00:31:59.61\00:32:01.51 My part would be to get with Him, 00:32:01.85\00:32:05.61 and stay with Him, and nurture a relationship with Him. 00:32:06.05\00:32:10.85 That would be my part. 00:32:10.88\00:32:11.94 His part is the "all things," my part is getting with Him. 00:32:12.97\00:32:15.85 And it's not something that happens once a week. 00:32:16.03\00:32:18.03 It's something that happens on a daily basis. 00:32:18.06\00:32:19.98 It's not just showing up in church once a week 00:32:20.35\00:32:22.44 and singing a song or two, and saying, 00:32:22.47\00:32:24.35 "That was a fine program. 00:32:24.38\00:32:25.54 And I was fed, the pastor fed me well." 00:32:25.57\00:32:27.62 And I'm going to go home and I'm going to live 00:32:27.65\00:32:29.20 for a week on that meal. 00:32:29.23\00:32:30.44 And next week, I'll come back and get another helping." 00:32:30.47\00:32:32.39 No, it's not. It's a daily walk with Jesus. 00:32:33.03\00:32:35.91 Sitting in church once a week does not make me a Christian 00:32:35.94\00:32:40.05 any more than sitting in a garage makes me a car. 00:32:40.08\00:32:43.42 Right? 00:32:43.45\00:32:44.49 There's something more. 00:32:44.52\00:32:45.91 Something more. 00:32:46.31\00:32:47.58 Well, if He is the one responsible for the 00:32:49.80\00:32:53.36 "all things," then who would get the glory? 00:32:53.39\00:32:55.63 Jesus would. 00:32:56.65\00:32:57.81 Right? 00:32:57.84\00:32:58.87 He would get the glory. 00:32:58.90\00:33:00.16 And now you see how this starts to fit into the 00:33:00.19\00:33:02.89 three angels' messages. 00:33:02.92\00:33:04.15 Because it talked about giving Him glory. 00:33:04.57\00:33:06.85 Giving Him glory. 00:33:07.11\00:33:08.41 Let's look a little deeper at the three parts 00:33:08.44\00:33:11.33 that we had on that diagram. 00:33:11.36\00:33:12.70 Okay, the first one was, "Fear God." 00:33:12.73\00:33:14.19 What does this mean? 00:33:14.22\00:33:15.26 Well it means to hold Him in awe or reverence. 00:33:15.29\00:33:18.51 Nobody would ever hold Him in awe or reverence 00:33:19.73\00:33:22.45 who did not know Him. 00:33:22.48\00:33:24.70 See, if you don't know somebody... 00:33:24.73\00:33:26.55 ...they just look like anybody else. 00:33:29.94\00:33:31.58 But if you know them, and you happen to know something 00:33:32.99\00:33:36.56 about them that is awe inspiring, then you are in awe. 00:33:36.59\00:33:40.89 But you have to know them before you can be in awe. 00:33:40.92\00:33:43.06 My daughter, Lindsey, was travelling through the country 00:33:43.51\00:33:47.02 and she had to do a connection flight in Salt Lake City. 00:33:47.05\00:33:53.04 So she is walking to her concourse 00:33:54.12\00:33:59.72 looking to go to where she's going to get on the plane. 00:34:00.83\00:34:03.22 And as she's walking along... 00:34:03.89\00:34:06.39 ...she sees a woman walking by herself 00:34:09.37\00:34:12.91 just a little bit ahead of her. 00:34:12.94\00:34:14.23 And Lindsey passes this person, because she's in a hurry. 00:34:15.06\00:34:18.93 Lindsey is. 00:34:19.26\00:34:20.30 And as she passes the person she noted that she liked 00:34:20.62\00:34:23.56 something that the person was wearing. 00:34:23.59\00:34:24.75 So she looked back to take another look at the garment. 00:34:24.78\00:34:26.99 And as she looked back, she recognized the person. 00:34:27.02\00:34:29.90 Well you may or may not recognize her if you saw 00:34:30.60\00:34:32.72 her in public, but her name was Meg Ryan and she was an actress. 00:34:32.75\00:34:36.09 She's currently an actress. 00:34:36.47\00:34:38.12 She's a well known actress. 00:34:38.62\00:34:40.23 My daughter said, "As soon as I realized that was Meg Ryan, 00:34:40.84\00:34:43.32 I said to myself, I'm not going to go gaga over her. 00:34:43.35\00:34:47.29 I'm not going to go up and say, 'Are you Meg Ryan?' 00:34:47.49\00:34:49.79 I'm not going to ask for an autograph. 00:34:49.82\00:34:51.59 I'm not going to overwhelm her with her stardom. 00:34:51.62\00:34:54.61 I'm going to treat her with respect." 00:34:54.64\00:34:56.73 And so Lindsey said she did slow down. 00:34:57.37\00:34:59.11 Lindsey did slow down a little bit so that they kind of 00:34:59.14\00:35:01.14 started to catch back to the similar... 00:35:01.17\00:35:03.19 And they walked a little farther. 00:35:04.40\00:35:05.46 It turns out they were going to the same gate. 00:35:05.49\00:35:08.09 And just before Meg went to sit down, 00:35:09.86\00:35:12.27 Lindsey said to Meg, "I enjoyed one of the films I saw you in." 00:35:12.55\00:35:20.28 And Meg said, "Thank you, sweetie." 00:35:21.35\00:35:24.37 And then Meg put sunglasses on and pulled up her collar, 00:35:25.67\00:35:31.13 and sat down with a newspaper in front of her face, 00:35:31.62\00:35:33.97 waiting for the plane. 00:35:34.00\00:35:35.78 There were a group of young men about the age of the 00:35:35.87\00:35:38.60 kind of young men who would be interested in Meg Ryan 00:35:38.63\00:35:41.06 that were waiting also for the plane. 00:35:42.09\00:35:43.96 And they were sitting just behind her. 00:35:44.75\00:35:47.58 You know how sometimes chairs are back to back. 00:35:47.61\00:35:50.10 Meg sat there reading her article until they called 00:35:51.45\00:35:54.23 for the passengers to board, and then she stood up 00:35:54.26\00:35:56.99 and went in with first class. 00:35:57.02\00:35:58.64 And then my daughter turned to the guys and she said, 00:35:59.31\00:36:01.80 "Did you know that was Meg Ryan sitting behind you?" 00:36:01.83\00:36:04.12 And they went gaga. 00:36:05.31\00:36:06.94 And they said, "Are you kidding us? 00:36:07.25\00:36:09.25 That was Meg Ryan?" 00:36:09.28\00:36:10.31 "Yeah, it was Meg Ryan." 00:36:10.34\00:36:11.37 "Oh, we were sitting right here and we didn't even know. 00:36:11.40\00:36:14.46 We didn't even know." 00:36:14.49\00:36:15.91 Well see, when you don't know somebody, 00:36:16.11\00:36:19.36 you don't hold them in awe. 00:36:19.39\00:36:21.24 Now I'm not trying to compare Meg Ryan to God. 00:36:21.27\00:36:23.16 Please don't misunderstand. 00:36:23.19\00:36:24.22 That's not the point at all. 00:36:24.25\00:36:25.29 But the point here is that once they knew who it was, 00:36:25.84\00:36:29.67 it changed their attitude. 00:36:29.70\00:36:31.10 You're never going to fear God or hold Him in awe or reverence 00:36:32.94\00:36:38.58 if you don't know Him. 00:36:38.61\00:36:40.39 But as you come to know Him, you will be so humbled 00:36:40.42\00:36:43.36 and awed by who He is and who you are 00:36:43.39\00:36:46.58 that it will just be a natural thing to revere Him, 00:36:46.61\00:36:51.16 to hold Him in awe, to appreciate who He is. 00:36:51.19\00:36:55.38 And that He's inviting you into a friendship. 00:36:55.41\00:36:57.39 "You want to be friends with me? 00:36:58.06\00:37:00.50 Unbelievable." 00:37:01.58\00:37:02.86 It just takes your breath away. 00:37:02.89\00:37:04.82 Well the second phrase that we diagrammed was, 00:37:05.31\00:37:08.03 "Give glory to Him." 00:37:08.06\00:37:09.53 "Give glory to Him." 00:37:10.17\00:37:11.46 If I have not discovered that I cannot save myself, 00:37:11.80\00:37:14.86 if I am trying hard to work on living up 00:37:14.89\00:37:18.52 to the standards externally... 00:37:18.55\00:37:21.34 Now the previous presentation, yesterday's presentation, 00:37:21.38\00:37:25.70 the problem of Laodicea is that it focuses on externals. 00:37:26.19\00:37:30.50 Remember. 00:37:31.13\00:37:32.20 And Jesus said, "You need to have something changed 00:37:32.23\00:37:35.39 on the inside, because focusing on externals 00:37:35.42\00:37:38.44 is your problem, Laodicea." 00:37:38.64\00:37:40.65 That's your problem. 00:37:40.95\00:37:42.05 If I am still focusing on externals, if I'm focusing 00:37:42.81\00:37:46.52 on the standards, if I am focusing on them to the 00:37:46.55\00:37:49.62 exclusion of taking time alone with Christ... 00:37:49.65\00:37:52.11 Remember, 70 to 80% of the people attending churches 00:37:52.14\00:37:55.70 say in the survey, "I'm not taking daily time for Christ." 00:37:55.73\00:37:59.27 Then what's the conclusion? 00:38:01.13\00:38:02.88 The conclusion is, I'm depending on myself. 00:38:04.01\00:38:06.32 If you're living apart from Jesus except on the weekend, 00:38:07.47\00:38:10.56 you're depending on yourself. 00:38:10.59\00:38:12.14 And if I should happen to get saved one day, 00:38:14.13\00:38:16.77 guess who will get the glory for it? 00:38:16.80\00:38:18.79 Me. Me. 00:38:19.49\00:38:21.60 I'd get the glory. 00:38:22.27\00:38:23.37 It is so easy to grasp for glory. 00:38:23.80\00:38:28.27 The carnal heart grasps for glory as readily as the flower 00:38:29.28\00:38:35.41 turns towards the sun. 00:38:35.44\00:38:36.98 It's just something in us. 00:38:37.75\00:38:39.71 It is so easy to take the glory. 00:38:39.74\00:38:41.09 I was teaching Bible at a Seventh-day Adventist 00:38:41.12\00:38:44.25 high school back in the day when Jim Gilley's son, John, 00:38:44.28\00:38:47.82 was one of my students. 00:38:47.85\00:38:49.12 And I had a van that had been sitting in my driveway 00:38:49.96\00:38:52.86 for months without being used. 00:38:52.89\00:38:54.95 And I had a need to go into town one day between classes. 00:38:54.98\00:38:58.81 And I thought, I should take the van out just to get the bugs out 00:38:59.03\00:39:02.02 and make sure it still runs. 00:39:02.05\00:39:03.08 I should just use the van to do my errands. 00:39:03.11\00:39:04.61 So I jumped in the van, went to turn the ignition key on, 00:39:04.64\00:39:07.22 and it kind of went, urrr, urrr, urrr. 00:39:07.25\00:39:10.25 But then it started. 00:39:10.28\00:39:11.31 And then I thought, okay good. 00:39:11.69\00:39:12.72 It needs to be run, it needs to get a little charge in here. 00:39:12.75\00:39:14.78 This is good for it. 00:39:14.81\00:39:15.84 So I took it on down. 00:39:15.88\00:39:16.91 And the thing I was going to do, was I was going to make a 00:39:16.94\00:39:18.65 deposit in the bank. 00:39:18.68\00:39:19.76 So I drive into the teller place where you... 00:39:20.17\00:39:22.56 It's a drive through kind of thing, you know. 00:39:22.59\00:39:24.31 And it was one of those lanes where they have curbs 00:39:24.84\00:39:27.65 on each side of the lane. 00:39:27.68\00:39:28.72 So you know, once you're in the lane, you're there, you know. 00:39:28.75\00:39:31.54 And there's a line of cars behind me. 00:39:31.57\00:39:33.58 And I got all the way up to where the teller was. 00:39:33.61\00:39:36.54 And just as she slid the little box out to help me, 00:39:36.57\00:39:40.10 the car ran out of gas. 00:39:40.13\00:39:41.58 I hadn't even checked the gauge. 00:39:42.70\00:39:43.87 And it was out of gas. 00:39:43.90\00:39:45.00 I tried turning the ignition, and it went, urrr, urrr. 00:39:45.40\00:39:49.32 And I'm out of gas. 00:39:49.35\00:39:50.51 And the lady behind the glass said, "Can I help you?" 00:39:52.14\00:39:54.60 And I said, "I'm out of gas." 00:39:55.00\00:39:56.76 She said, "You came to the wrong station." 00:39:56.79\00:39:58.99 She said, "Can you push that out of the way?" 00:40:01.26\00:40:03.12 It was a 3/4 ton van. 00:40:03.15\00:40:05.01 But I got out and eventually I got it moved out of the way 00:40:05.98\00:40:08.05 so the rest of the people could come through. 00:40:08.08\00:40:09.67 I had to get back to class. 00:40:10.60\00:40:12.00 I was doing this in between classes. 00:40:12.03\00:40:14.42 And so I pushed the car out of the way, the van out of the way, 00:40:14.68\00:40:17.65 just a little bit, and I took off running two blocks 00:40:17.68\00:40:20.27 to where there was a gas station. 00:40:20.30\00:40:21.36 As I came running up, I said to this guy, 00:40:21.39\00:40:22.98 "I'm in a heap of trouble, man. 00:40:23.01\00:40:24.19 I have an appointment I have to get to, and I just 00:40:24.22\00:40:26.13 ran out of gas in a van that has been sitting for four months. 00:40:26.16\00:40:28.41 The battery is almost dead. 00:40:28.44\00:40:29.62 I'm not even sure that there's going to be enough 00:40:29.65\00:40:31.32 energy in that battery to pump the gas all the way forward. 00:40:31.35\00:40:33.76 But I need gas, I need it quick, and I don't have time. 00:40:33.79\00:40:35.64 Can you give me a gallon of gas?" 00:40:35.67\00:40:36.80 And so the guys like, you know, he's putting in 00:40:37.13\00:40:38.87 the gallon of gas. 00:40:38.90\00:40:39.98 I grab the gas can as he's giving it to me. 00:40:40.01\00:40:41.64 I start to turn around to run and he says, "Good luck." 00:40:41.67\00:40:44.08 I said, "I need it. Thanks." 00:40:44.36\00:40:46.09 And I raced back, I poured the gas in, I jump back in. 00:40:46.12\00:40:49.04 I'm thinking, "Man, I've got to get to class. 00:40:49.07\00:40:50.21 I've got to teach Bible. I've got to get back." 00:40:50.24\00:40:51.68 I turn on the ignition. 00:40:51.71\00:40:53.21 Well before I turn on the ignition, I say to myself, 00:40:53.24\00:40:54.89 "Now man, that battery is so low, and it has to pump gas 00:40:54.92\00:40:58.63 all the way from the back of the van all the way to the 00:40:58.66\00:41:00.65 front of the engine. 00:41:00.68\00:41:01.71 I don't know what's going to happen here. 00:41:01.74\00:41:02.85 I don't think it's going to be able to handle it. 00:41:02.88\00:41:04.29 I barely got it started." 00:41:04.32\00:41:05.68 And then all of a sudden, I thought, "Well you know what? 00:41:05.71\00:41:07.44 Why shouldn't I pray first." 00:41:07.47\00:41:09.20 So often we pray at the end. 00:41:09.92\00:41:11.42 People say, "Oh we tried everything. 00:41:11.45\00:41:12.92 There was nothing left to do but pray." 00:41:12.95\00:41:15.65 I thought, "Why don't I reverse that. 00:41:16.01\00:41:17.44 Why don't I pray at the beginning." 00:41:17.47\00:41:18.77 So I said, "Lord Jesus, You know the van's 00:41:18.95\00:41:22.45 out of gas and I just have the one gallon. 00:41:22.48\00:41:23.88 The battery is almost dead. 00:41:23.91\00:41:24.94 Now You know, Lord, I am trying to get back 00:41:24.97\00:41:27.56 to teach Bible class. 00:41:27.59\00:41:30.05 Did I mention I'm teaching Bible, Lord. 00:41:30.64\00:41:32.74 And I just wondered if You'd be willing to make sure 00:41:32.77\00:41:37.37 the car starts for me. 00:41:37.40\00:41:38.43 I need some sort of miracle here, so would You just do that 00:41:38.46\00:41:40.42 so I can get back to teach Bible and talk about You." 00:41:40.45\00:41:43.27 God probably smiled. 00:41:45.02\00:41:46.48 But I turned the key and it started instantly. 00:41:47.54\00:41:50.29 And it never even skipped a beat. 00:41:50.32\00:41:51.80 Never stalled or nothing. 00:41:51.83\00:41:52.90 I thought, wow. 00:41:52.93\00:41:53.96 I felt a little chill go down my spine. 00:41:53.99\00:41:55.42 Like, wow, God just did a miracle for me. 00:41:55.45\00:41:57.79 So I whip over to that service station and 00:41:58.26\00:41:59.92 give the guy his can back. 00:41:59.95\00:42:01.03 I said, "Quick, quick, quick. 00:42:01.13\00:42:02.16 I'm in a hurry because I've got to go teach a class. 00:42:02.19\00:42:04.09 Just put two dollars into the car." 00:42:04.12\00:42:06.05 That's back when you could get four or five 00:42:06.08\00:42:07.56 gallons for two bucks. 00:42:07.59\00:42:08.62 And I said, "Just put two bucks into the car, 00:42:08.65\00:42:10.57 and I've got to run." 00:42:10.60\00:42:11.79 So he pumps the two dollars in, the two bucks worth. 00:42:11.82\00:42:14.46 And then he says to me, "I thought you said 00:42:14.49\00:42:16.15 it wasn't going to start. 00:42:16.18\00:42:17.21 I thought you said the battery was dead 00:42:17.24\00:42:18.59 and you weren't going to start." 00:42:18.62\00:42:19.65 I said, "Well you know what? 00:42:19.68\00:42:21.08 I guess I just got lucky." 00:42:21.11\00:42:22.99 And then I hurried off to teach Bible class 00:42:24.22\00:42:27.77 and talk about the God you can depend on, 00:42:27.80\00:42:29.85 and the God whose glory... 00:42:29.88\00:42:33.60 ...we're supposed to be proclaiming. 00:42:35.30\00:42:37.16 See how easy it is to take the glory, take the credit? 00:42:37.70\00:42:40.95 I had a wonderful opportunity right there. 00:42:41.15\00:42:42.80 I could have said to him, "I don't know what you 00:42:42.83\00:42:44.02 think about prayer, buddy, but I just said a prayer. 00:42:44.05\00:42:46.01 And I believe God answered it, because that car 00:42:46.04\00:42:47.90 shouldn't have started." 00:42:47.93\00:42:48.96 That's all I would have had to say. 00:42:48.99\00:42:50.02 I wouldn't have to say to him, "Could I give you a 00:42:50.05\00:42:51.23 series of Bible studies, maybe 27 of them? 00:42:51.26\00:42:53.14 Would you like to meet once a week? 00:42:53.17\00:42:54.25 I could come to your house." 00:42:54.28\00:42:55.31 You know, I didn't have to say anything like that. 00:42:55.37\00:42:56.62 But no, I just took the easy route and I took credit. 00:42:56.65\00:42:59.82 I said, "Well I guess I just got lucky." 00:42:59.85\00:43:01.27 Oh, it's easy to take the glory that's not ours. 00:43:02.90\00:43:05.19 Romans 4:20, "Abraham..." 00:43:05.50\00:43:07.57 People who are strong in faith give glory to God. 00:43:17.36\00:43:22.99 They do not take the glory to themselves. 00:43:23.23\00:43:24.79 Oh, but it is so easy to give glory to the wrong people. 00:43:24.82\00:43:29.21 To give glory to the wrong person. 00:43:30.24\00:43:32.20 It is even easy in ecclesiastical circles. 00:43:32.23\00:43:35.05 I have been a pastor for more than 30 years. 00:43:35.77\00:43:38.03 And pastors go twice a year, traditionally, 00:43:38.31\00:43:41.40 to what they call, professional growth meetings. 00:43:41.43\00:43:43.55 And I was attending professional growth 00:43:44.27\00:43:46.68 meetings in one conference. 00:43:46.71\00:43:48.74 That would be a geographical domain or location 00:43:49.15\00:43:52.42 where we all worked as a group. 00:43:52.45\00:43:54.44 And I use to dread going to those 00:43:55.47\00:43:56.99 professional growth meetings. 00:43:57.02\00:43:58.35 I particularly dreaded them for one particular reason. 00:43:58.74\00:44:01.08 They would always focus on how many people had been baptized, 00:44:01.72\00:44:05.42 and how many you had baptized, and how many they had baptized. 00:44:05.45\00:44:08.91 And then they would call the person to the front 00:44:09.12\00:44:11.37 who had baptized the most people and they would present them 00:44:11.40\00:44:14.35 with a $150 Bible. 00:44:14.38\00:44:16.37 And then they would ask that person to tell all the 00:44:16.57\00:44:18.93 tricks of the trade and the secrets, and so on, that he 00:44:18.96\00:44:21.10 used to get that many people baptized. 00:44:21.13\00:44:23.21 And I would sit there at the back of that room 00:44:23.53\00:44:26.43 with all these other pastors feeling about this big. 00:44:26.46\00:44:29.94 The reason being that I just didn't seem to have those 00:44:30.15\00:44:32.97 kinds of numbers to report that other people reported. 00:44:33.00\00:44:36.51 And I'd just go away from these meetings feeling 00:44:36.71\00:44:39.74 discouraged and depressed like I didn't even belong in there. 00:44:39.77\00:44:42.17 "I shouldn't be a pastor. 00:44:42.20\00:44:43.33 I'm not pastor material. 00:44:43.36\00:44:44.85 I'm not getting the numbers. 00:44:44.88\00:44:46.16 I don't have this badge of success. 00:44:46.19\00:44:47.92 I can't quote and show pictures of the number of 00:44:47.95\00:44:50.13 people I baptized." 00:44:50.16\00:44:51.64 I use to sit in the back row with a guy named Dan, 00:44:52.78\00:44:54.90 another preacher. 00:44:54.93\00:44:56.00 He was a pastor to the Native Americans 00:44:56.34\00:44:58.76 in our conference. 00:44:59.32\00:45:00.77 And Dan and I would commiserate together. 00:45:01.61\00:45:03.51 Because he felt the same way I did. 00:45:03.92\00:45:05.56 He'd say, "When I go home from these meetings, 00:45:05.59\00:45:07.27 I'm always discouraged. 00:45:07.30\00:45:08.33 It always takes me a while to get back into the groove again 00:45:08.36\00:45:11.24 after coming to these meetings." 00:45:11.27\00:45:12.91 So you can imagine my surprise and Dan's surprise 00:45:13.56\00:45:16.73 when one day at those meetings our conference president said, 00:45:16.76\00:45:23.92 "The Bible is going to be given to Dan. 00:45:24.70\00:45:26.91 Pastor Dan. 00:45:27.72\00:45:28.91 Dan, would you come forward?" 00:45:28.94\00:45:30.38 Dan looked at me like... 00:45:30.41\00:45:31.51 I looked at him. 00:45:34.09\00:45:35.31 And Dan went forward scratching his head. 00:45:36.25\00:45:38.09 And the president said, "Probably some of you are 00:45:39.27\00:45:41.16 wondering how is it that we're giving it to Dan. 00:45:41.19\00:45:42.66 Is it a mistake here? 00:45:42.69\00:45:43.88 Not a mistake," he said. 00:45:44.08\00:45:45.11 "We decided to do it this time on per capita." 00:45:45.14\00:45:48.70 So he said, "You might not think that Dan had very many 00:45:49.41\00:45:52.07 people baptized in his area. 00:45:52.10\00:45:54.61 But based on the number of people he had to draw from, 00:45:54.64\00:45:58.09 he's the leader of the pack. 00:45:58.12\00:45:59.52 So Dan, here's the Bible." 00:45:59.93\00:46:01.09 And he hands the Bible to Dan. 00:46:01.12\00:46:02.44 And he says, "Dan, tell us a little bit about 00:46:02.70\00:46:04.69 your secret of success. 00:46:04.72\00:46:06.50 What are the things you do to make that happen?" 00:46:06.53\00:46:08.66 I will never forget what happened next. 00:46:09.60\00:46:11.24 Dan just stood there gulping, swallowing hard. 00:46:11.27\00:46:15.55 It was clear that he was having a hard time speaking. 00:46:16.46\00:46:19.41 And then he said, "Actually, Mr. President, 00:46:19.98\00:46:25.39 these meetings have just been a source of discouragement to me 00:46:28.48\00:46:31.52 every time I come. 00:46:31.55\00:46:33.10 And when I left the last time six months ago, 00:46:33.87\00:46:36.91 I was so discouraged that I thought of resigning from 00:46:37.01\00:46:39.65 the ministry because I just can't produce the numbers 00:46:39.68\00:46:42.15 that you measure as success." 00:46:42.18\00:46:43.88 He said, "In tears I knelt before God and I said, 00:46:44.99\00:46:47.40 'God, I can't do it. I don't know how to do it. 00:46:47.43\00:46:49.23 I try the things they say and it doesn't make any difference 00:46:49.26\00:46:51.91 with people I work with.' 00:46:51.94\00:46:53.00 In tears I said to Him, 'Lord Jesus, I think maybe 00:46:54.20\00:46:56.40 I'm not pastoral material. 00:46:56.43\00:46:58.31 So what I'm going to do for the next six months, 00:46:59.15\00:47:01.22 maybe before I just quit, is I'm just going to 00:47:01.73\00:47:04.77 tell people what Jesus means to me. 00:47:04.80\00:47:07.10 That's all I'm going to do. 00:47:07.13\00:47:08.16 I'm just going to tell people what Jesus means to me. 00:47:08.19\00:47:09.95 I'm just going to share what You are to me, Lord Jesus, 00:47:10.23\00:47:12.39 and I'm going to leave You in charge of whatever else happens. 00:47:12.42\00:47:15.40 And if I should still be in the ministry, well that's okay 00:47:15.43\00:47:17.66 with me if it's okay with You. 00:47:17.69\00:47:18.99 But I'm just going to do that, it's all I'm going to do.'" 00:47:19.02\00:47:20.91 And he's crying as he's saying this in front of all of us. 00:47:20.94\00:47:24.03 And he takes the Bible and he hands it back to the President. 00:47:24.27\00:47:27.89 And he says to him, "Mr. President, 00:47:27.92\00:47:29.83 you just gave the Bible to the wrong guy. 00:47:30.09\00:47:32.63 All the glory, if there's any, belongs to Jesus. 00:47:33.34\00:47:37.96 He did it all, I did nothing except tell people 00:47:37.99\00:47:41.03 what He means to me. 00:47:41.06\00:47:42.51 He gets all the glory." 00:47:42.75\00:47:44.20 Even in ecclesiastical circles we can get confused 00:47:44.23\00:47:48.08 about who gets the glory. 00:47:48.11\00:47:49.36 Michael Card, a Christian musician, song writer, 00:47:50.43\00:47:53.18 who loves to sing about Jesus and talk about Jesus, 00:47:53.21\00:47:56.23 was doing a concert in the Denver area in Colorado. 00:47:56.73\00:47:59.56 As he started his first song, which everybody recognized, 00:47:59.85\00:48:03.37 they began to applaud. 00:48:03.90\00:48:05.43 He stopped the song right in the middle of it, 00:48:05.53\00:48:08.47 and he said, "I know you all mean well, 00:48:08.50\00:48:11.06 and I'm sure that in your heart you're responding to your 00:48:11.09\00:48:13.56 love for Jesus and the message that the song 00:48:13.59\00:48:15.70 invokes in your heart, but would you please 00:48:15.73\00:48:17.67 not do that anymore. 00:48:17.70\00:48:18.73 Because when you applaud, I get confused about 00:48:18.76\00:48:21.29 who is Creator and who is creature. 00:48:21.32\00:48:23.89 And you do me a big favor if you wouldn't applaud. 00:48:23.92\00:48:26.79 It's too easy for me to take the glory that's not mine." 00:48:26.82\00:48:31.31 I admire Michael Card for that. 00:48:31.34\00:48:33.63 I admire him. 00:48:33.66\00:48:35.47 It is so easy to take the glory. 00:48:35.95\00:48:38.29 But there is no glory for the work of man in the gospel. 00:48:38.44\00:48:41.49 All the glory goes to Jesus. 00:48:41.52\00:48:43.43 Well what happens to man's glory? 00:48:43.46\00:48:45.39 Man's glory goes to the dust. 00:48:45.42\00:48:48.21 To the dust. 00:48:48.51\00:48:49.95 I read you that just a few moments ago. 00:48:50.47\00:48:52.25 "It is the work of God in laying the glory of man in the dust, 00:48:52.28\00:48:57.31 and doing for him what he cannot do for himself." 00:48:57.65\00:49:00.13 You know what? 00:49:01.42\00:49:02.47 They didn't like Jesus when He walked our planet. 00:49:02.91\00:49:05.62 And they didn't like Him because they didn't like this message. 00:49:05.99\00:49:09.91 They liked to blow trumpets prior to giving prayer 00:49:11.81\00:49:14.28 in public places. 00:49:14.31\00:49:15.66 They didn't want to admit that the Shekinah was gone. 00:49:15.94\00:49:20.74 But one woman figured it out. 00:49:22.29\00:49:25.95 And she named her son, Ichabod. 00:49:26.63\00:49:28.58 Which meant, the glory has departed. 00:49:29.35\00:49:32.71 Has departed. 00:49:33.17\00:49:34.43 Friends, when God's glory is absent, 00:49:34.63\00:49:37.72 man's glory rises to the top. 00:49:37.75\00:49:41.03 And we entertain ourselves with mutual admiration parties 00:49:41.06\00:49:45.68 where we talk about our successes. 00:49:46.18\00:49:48.98 Oh we've learned how to be clever with our words. 00:49:49.18\00:49:51.18 We say we give God all the glory, but we're really 00:49:51.21\00:49:53.32 telling people how much we have accomplished. 00:49:53.35\00:49:56.57 Ill disguised glory sessions. 00:49:56.97\00:49:59.90 When God's glory is absent, man's rises to the top. 00:50:00.43\00:50:03.66 But when God's glory rises to the top, 00:50:03.69\00:50:06.83 man's glory goes to the dust. 00:50:06.86\00:50:09.71 Remember John the Baptist? 00:50:09.74\00:50:11.04 Do you remember what he said to his disciples? 00:50:11.59\00:50:13.86 He said, "He must increase and I must decrease." 00:50:14.15\00:50:22.17 "Glory for me, to the dust. 00:50:22.20\00:50:24.51 To the dust." 00:50:24.54\00:50:26.18 "Oh, but what about a little glory, Lord? 00:50:26.39\00:50:29.08 Couldn't we have just a little bit?" 00:50:29.11\00:50:30.39 You know, achievers and self-made people love 00:50:30.42\00:50:33.13 to worship themselves. 00:50:33.16\00:50:34.75 And they don't like this message. 00:50:35.48\00:50:37.48 The people who have, you know, done it themselves, 00:50:37.74\00:50:41.68 they don't like this message. 00:50:42.00\00:50:43.33 They hate it. 00:50:43.36\00:50:44.44 "Couldn't we have a little? What about self-esteem? 00:50:44.54\00:50:46.27 You've got to have some sense of human worth and value, 00:50:46.30\00:50:48.14 a little self-esteem, Lord. 00:50:48.17\00:50:49.31 How about a little glory, just a little glory?" 00:50:49.34\00:50:50.89 1 Corinthians 5:6 says, "Your glory is not good..." 00:50:50.92\00:50:55.44 "Not even a little glory, Lord? 00:51:02.56\00:51:03.76 Not even a little glory?" 00:51:03.79\00:51:05.33 Which is why Paul said in Galatians 6:14... 00:51:05.43\00:51:07.90 There's only one place that glory is appropriate. 00:51:14.39\00:51:17.55 It's in Jesus. 00:51:17.58\00:51:18.82 I have a good friend, a pastor, in the Washington Conference. 00:51:18.85\00:51:21.59 His name is Bill Roberts. 00:51:21.62\00:51:23.13 You've probably heard other pastors pray this, 00:51:23.16\00:51:24.76 but every time Bill preaches, before he preaches he prays. 00:51:24.79\00:51:29.83 And he always says at the close of his prayer 00:51:29.86\00:51:32.29 before he says amen, he says, "And Lord Jesus, 00:51:32.32\00:51:34.99 we will be careful," he says, "to give all the glory to You. 00:51:35.29\00:51:41.23 Hide us behind the cross so that we give all the glory to Jesus." 00:51:41.26\00:51:48.08 So, "God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross 00:51:48.66\00:51:50.99 of our Lord Jesus Christ." 00:51:51.02\00:51:52.44 Ramses the Great, one of the Pharaohs of Egypt, 00:51:52.47\00:51:55.57 for years they thought he was the greatest Pharaoh 00:51:55.60\00:51:57.49 that ever ruled in Egypt. 00:51:57.52\00:51:59.24 The reason they thought this was because 00:51:59.44\00:52:01.25 one of the things that the Pharaohs did was they would 00:52:01.28\00:52:03.39 have objects made in their honor. 00:52:03.42\00:52:06.20 Statues and various monuments, and things, and pillars. 00:52:06.23\00:52:10.03 Obelisks and so on. 00:52:10.06\00:52:11.59 And then they would have their names engraved 00:52:11.62\00:52:13.79 across the bottom of whatever that object was. 00:52:14.00\00:52:16.92 And for years archeologists thought that Ramses the Great 00:52:17.34\00:52:22.47 was the greatest Pharaoh of all. 00:52:22.78\00:52:24.50 Because he had more monuments to his name than anybody else 00:52:24.53\00:52:29.52 of antiquity. 00:52:29.55\00:52:30.97 And then some clever archeology revealed something 00:52:31.00\00:52:36.68 that they hadn't noticed at first. 00:52:36.71\00:52:38.53 Actually, Ramses had just chiseled everybody else's 00:52:38.75\00:52:42.90 names off and then engraved his in the space that remained. 00:52:42.93\00:52:46.37 He took other people's monuments and took credit for himself. 00:52:46.69\00:52:50.34 He has become known since as the great Chiseler 00:52:50.37\00:52:53.91 rather than the greatest Pharaoh. 00:52:54.43\00:52:56.33 And perhaps the poet Shelley was thinking of him 00:52:56.70\00:52:59.25 when he wrote a poem about a toppled monument that he saw 00:52:59.75\00:53:04.43 in the deserts of Egypt. 00:53:04.46\00:53:06.02 The close of the poem that Shelley wrote goes like this, 00:53:06.77\00:53:10.21 "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. 00:53:10.24\00:53:14.23 Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair. 00:53:14.26\00:53:18.52 Nothing beside remains. 00:53:18.98\00:53:21.31 Round the decay...the lone and level sands stretch far away." 00:53:21.34\00:53:28.42 "Look upon my works. 00:53:28.78\00:53:30.83 I am Ozymandias, king of kings." 00:53:31.34\00:53:36.20 Into the sand, into the dust; broken. 00:53:36.40\00:53:40.54 Contrast that to Charles T. Everson's beautiful thought. 00:53:41.09\00:53:43.95 "We live in a time when centuries are compressed 00:53:43.98\00:53:47.07 into a few short years. 00:53:47.10\00:53:48.92 The names of great men appear on the horizon, 00:53:48.95\00:53:52.46 flicker for a moment and then are lost forever 00:53:52.49\00:53:55.49 in a sea of forgetfulness. 00:53:55.52\00:53:57.04 But there is one name that grows brighter 00:53:57.07\00:53:59.22 with every passing year. 00:53:59.25\00:54:01.09 It is the name of Jesus." 00:54:01.12\00:54:04.08 The name of Jesus. 00:54:04.11\00:54:06.18 Well the third sentence we diagrammed said, "Worship Him." 00:54:06.21\00:54:08.90 If God is not being worshiped, man is the only other person 00:54:08.93\00:54:11.56 who is left to be worshiped. 00:54:11.59\00:54:12.89 If I do not know a daily relationship with Jesus, 00:54:12.92\00:54:15.50 if I'm not worshiping Him six days a week, 00:54:15.53\00:54:17.94 there's serious question as to whether I'm 00:54:17.97\00:54:20.13 worshiping Him on the weekend. 00:54:20.16\00:54:21.82 See, I'm worshiping myself all week long 00:54:21.85\00:54:24.11 because I have no time for Him. 00:54:24.14\00:54:25.61 Self-dependent people aren't worshiping God, 00:54:25.94\00:54:28.79 they're worshiping themselves on the weekend as well. 00:54:28.82\00:54:32.14 Well why should He be worshiped? 00:54:32.79\00:54:34.47 Revelation 15:3 tells us the reason for worshiping. 00:54:34.50\00:54:38.51 Oh, that's why we should worship Him. 00:54:47.39\00:54:51.35 He does good work. 00:54:51.38\00:54:52.99 He does great work. 00:54:53.23\00:54:55.67 Helen Steiner Rice, who writes many poems on hallmark cards 00:54:56.34\00:55:00.91 and others, she wrote this little message on a card 00:55:00.94\00:55:03.89 I was looking through one time as I stood there 00:55:03.92\00:55:06.12 in that section. 00:55:06.15\00:55:07.23 And it said these words, "Help me to always 00:55:07.26\00:55:10.56 remember the story that Thine is the kingdom, 00:55:10.59\00:55:14.59 the power, and the glory." 00:55:14.62\00:55:17.90 The glory. 00:55:17.93\00:55:19.25 Well the book, Testimonies to Ministers, 00:55:20.65\00:55:22.77 says, "All power is given into His hands," Jesus' hands... 00:55:22.80\00:55:28.20 What is the message? 00:55:53.23\00:55:54.55 Watch out for the beast? 00:55:54.58\00:55:56.59 No, the message is, draw close to Jesus. 00:55:56.89\00:56:02.12 Seek Jesus. 00:56:02.15\00:56:03.42 You worship Him, you give Him glory, 00:56:03.45\00:56:06.18 you bring Him praise, you spend time with Him. 00:56:06.21\00:56:09.67 You experience this wonderful gift of justification 00:56:09.70\00:56:13.25 by faith in Christ alone. 00:56:13.28\00:56:14.85 The message is that He has gifts, gifts, to give men. 00:56:14.88\00:56:20.88 Including His righteousness. 00:56:21.18\00:56:22.55 Including power to be an overcomer. 00:56:22.58\00:56:25.17 Obedience is the result of His work in me. 00:56:25.41\00:56:28.42 And He wants to give me that. 00:56:28.68\00:56:30.72 He says, "I give you My Sabbath as a sign 00:56:30.75\00:56:32.36 that I am the God who sanctifies you." 00:56:32.39\00:56:34.53 Sanctification has to do with obedience, 00:56:34.56\00:56:36.75 and Christ-like characters, and victory, and overcoming. 00:56:36.78\00:56:38.93 So that's the message. 00:56:39.96\00:56:41.41 "Come to Me," He says. "Come to Me." 00:56:41.51\00:56:44.22 What do you do to get a gift? 00:56:44.25\00:56:45.47 You come into the presence of the Giver. 00:56:46.18\00:56:47.51 You don't work for it, because if you work for it, 00:56:47.54\00:56:49.09 you would have earned it. 00:56:49.12\00:56:50.16 You come into the presence of the Giver. 00:56:50.28\00:56:51.72 Think, relationship with Christ. 00:56:51.75\00:56:53.45 And then you accept with gratitude what He has given. 00:56:53.48\00:56:56.54 And so Jeremiah says it right, "This is what the Lord says..." 00:56:57.03\00:57:00.78 Let's pray. 00:57:14.30\00:57:15.46 Lord Jesus, I want to know You better. 00:57:15.49\00:57:17.56 I want to see You not only in the three angels', 00:57:17.59\00:57:20.33 I want to see You morning by morning and day by day. 00:57:20.36\00:57:22.67 And I pray that for every person within the sound of my voice. 00:57:22.71\00:57:25.42 In Jesus' name, amen. 00:57:25.45\00:57:28.01
