a couple of different views.

I am a Seventh-day
Adventist Christian.

I know that the greatest
part of Christ's true followers

are in the fellowship of other
churches and denominations.

But I obviously believe
through my study of the Word

that the
Seventh-day Adventist teachings

are close to the Bible.

There are certain doctrines that
divide us from other Christians.

You'll notice on the
pillars here, it says,

Christians,
Adventists; Other, Christians.

We recognize that
there are other Christians
00:06:25.94\00:06:28.97
in other churches.

I don't believe it's God's
will for us to be so divided.

But the Lord doesn't want us
to unite for the sake of unity.

He wants us to unite
on the truth of His Word.

And so I think it's important.

put out there what I understand

the teachings are
of the Adventists.

been an Adventist.

Adventist Christians.

for Seventh-day Adventists

to better understand why
we believe what we believe,

and what the common
arguments are so we can study

these things for ourselves.

You know, there are
some churches that teach

their members are not allowed
to look at anything that is

presented or printed or produced
by another denomination.

They have their members go
through their experience with

blinders on because they're
afraid that if their members
00:07:57.48\00:08:01.16
look at or study something
another church has put out,

they might change.

In the
Seventh-day Adventist Church,

we invite people to study.

I think that the truth
should not be afraid to stand up

under investigation.

And that's just what
we're doing now, is we're

talking about these truths.

Now, today we're
going to be dealing with

the subject of the sanctuary.

And you really have
three different examples of

the sanctuary,
spiritually, in the Bible.

You have the sanctuary of
the church, which we would call,
00:08:30.71\00:08:34.51
the body of Christ.

You know, John chapter
2 verses 19 through 21,
00:08:35.82\00:08:39.61
"Jesus answered and
said, 'Destroy this temple,
00:08:40.35\00:08:44.40
and in three days
I will raise it up.'
00:08:44.43\00:08:47.24
Then the Jews said, 'It
has taken forty-six years to
00:08:48.00\00:08:50.67
build this temple, and You
will raise it up in three days?'
00:08:50.70\00:08:53.51
But He was speaking of
the temple of His body."
00:08:54.14\00:08:57.83
What is the church called?
00:08:57.86\00:08:59.21
The body of Christ.

And so we'll be
talking about that.

You know, there's a
prophecy in the Old Testament

I'd like to begin with and it's
in Malachi chapter 3 verse 1.

Malachi 3 verse 1.

That's Jesus.
00:09:26.68\00:09:27.86
John the Baptist went to
prepare the way before the Lord

who was to come
suddenly to the temple.

"'...the Messenger of the
covenant in whom you delight.

Behold, He will come,'
says the Lord of hosts."

You know, Jesus
did come to His temple.

Right near the end of
His ministry, one of the
00:09:43.15\00:09:45.10
things that Jesus did
was, He cleansed the sanctuary.

He cleansed the temple.
00:09:50.21\00:09:51.64
And you find that in
Mark 11 verses 15 through 17.

Matter of fact, I know you
agree with this, Pastor Barney.

The Lord wants
His temple to be pure.

He wants His temple to be clean.

He wants it to be
a place of prayer.

His dwelling place.

Now that holds true of
God's body, His people.

But the devil has
brought in his wares.

There are doctrines of
devils that have found their way

into the church.

That's what Paul
said would happen.

God wants our bodies
to be His dwelling place.

And ultimately, God
wants the universe to be

clean of sin and sinners.

We're going to do our best
to talk about all three of those

with our first question

about the church temple;

God's body on earth, the church.

saying they are the true church.

the Lord has His people in

many different denominations.

And then of course, it
says in Ephesians chapter 2

verses 19 through 22, "Now,
therefore, you are no longer

strangers and foreigners, but
fellow citizens with the saints

and members of the household
of God, having been built

on the foundation of the
apostles and the prophets,

Jesus Christ Himself
being the chief cornerstone,

in whom the whole
building, being fitted together,

grows into a holy temple in the
Lord, in whom you also are being

built together for a dwelling
place for God in the Spirit."

It's like the
breastplate of the high priest.

One priest, many
different kinds of stones.

God has got many different kinds
of denominations in His church.

And again, Jesus
said in John 10 verse 16,

"Other sheep I have
that are not of this fold."

talking about it, you know,

because the Adventists think
that they are the remnant church

or the true church, some of
us ministers in other churches,

we think you do a
little bit of sheep stealing.

We often lose our
members and we find out that

now they're going to
church on Saturday and they've

joined the Adventist church.

Well, Pastor Barney,

We don't apologize for inviting
people to join what we believe

is the remnant church.

We're not trying to
be arrogant or exclusive

But we believe that
in the Bible, God has a

peculiar people to
whom He has committed

the oracles of truth.

Now would you agree that
in the Old Testament times

that God had a
people, a specific people?

Yes, He did have
the children of Israel

and He did communicate
the oracles of truth to them.

I would agree with that.

Now even though
they were God's people,

were they His only
people that He saved?

Well no, God had His
people in other nations.

You've got Naaman
who was healed of leprosy

and he said that he
worshipped the Lord.

And the Ruth, the Moabitess.

And God has had His people, even
Paul says in Romans chapter 1.

So I understand that.

But He's really only
got one spiritual church

here in the world.

Well I agree with
that, Pastor Barney.

I think He does have one church.

But you have to read
the rest of that verse

ago from John chapter 10.

Jesus said, "Other sheep I
have that are not of this fold."

We agree, God has got the
majority of His other sheep

not in the Adventist church.

But you've got to read
the rest of that verse.

Jesus is calling
people to come together.

So your interpretation of
that is, the only way we're

going to be one is by
being members of your church.

And I expect that if I were
to ask you, are you comfortable

with the teachings of

identifying characteristics;

Now we recognize
Seventh-day Adventists

are not the only
Christians out there.

There are many godly
spiritual Christians.

We also know that not
everybody that is on the books

in the Seventh-day Adventist
Church is going to heaven.

Just as I'm sure that you would
admit that not everybody who

might be a member of any
other evangelical denomination

is automatically saved
by an outward profession.

Man looks on the
outside, God looks on the heart.

But it's not God's
will that we are so divided.

Jesus in John 17 verse 20.

This is the final prayer that
He prayed before He went to the

Gethsemane for His church.

longest prayer of Christ.

and the Methodists might be one,

Presbyterians might be one.

But they all might be one.

He wants there to be a unity.

How does He want us to be one?
