one; a truth that divides.

People thinking one way
about a truth that the Bible

really we believe is so clear
on but that man has distorted.

going to look at those texts

that involve the
second coming of Jesus Christ.

What does it really mean?

You know, there are those
that have predicted that Christ

was coming back.

In fact, this very year, one
gentleman has predicted twice

two different dates.

And now both of
those dates have passed.

You see, Christ said, "No
one knows the day nor the hour."

So there was one thing for
sure, that when those two days

were predicted, we knew that
He wasn't coming on that day.

Because then the Bible
would not have been true.

known the day and the hour.

I spent a lot of time studying

with people from
other evangelical mainline

Christian churches.

I worshipped with
them; lovely people.

But their doctrines disagree.

Not only with each
other, in many cases.

You know, I studied with
some dear Christians that said,

"Unless you speak in tongues,
you don't have the Holy Spirit."

Or "Unless you're a
member of our church,

you're not one of the 144,000."

And just all these different
doctrines, I just prayed

and said, "Lord, I
want to know the truth."

I want to know
what the Bible truth is.

I believe before Jesus
comes back, that He's going to

have a unified people.

When Christ ascended to heaven,
He poured out the Holy Spirit on

the church and they were
in one place of one accord.

that when Jesus comes back,

with the apex of history.

and I said, "Hey, it fits."

A girl emailed me on Facebook,
or Facebooked me, and she said,

"Are you going to bleach
one side of your mustache?"

I thought they
were already bleached.

It's called gray
hair. But anyway.

The message tonight is
dealing with the second coming;

the climax of history
or the apex of history.

And understanding the truth
on this subject is crucial.

Now you remember when
Jesus came the first time.

There were over a hundred
prophecies in the Old Testament

that talked about the
first coming of Jesus.

But the disciples misunderstood
the nature of His first coming.

Not only the Jewish
people were not ready.

I mean when the wise men
came to Jerusalem and said,

"Where is He that is
born King of the Jews?"

they looked at each
other and thought, "What?"
00:08:15.56\00:08:17.38
When He came the first
time, His own people with
00:08:17.81\00:08:20.90
the Bible of the
day, were not ready.
00:08:20.93\00:08:23.36
Because the devil had confused
them regarding the doctrines

of how He was coming.

Could that happen
again to His people?

I think the devil, if anything,
has sharpened his skills and

he is doing the same
thing in the last days.

He's confusing the majority,
I believe, of Christian people

regarding the Bible
truth about how He's coming.

You remember when Jesus
came, the disciples said,

Acts chapter 1 verse
6, "Therefore when they
00:08:50.04\00:08:53.23
came together, they asked
Jesus, saying, 'Lord, will You
00:08:53.26\00:08:57.09
at this time restore
the kingdom to Israel?'"
00:08:57.10\00:08:59.88
They had these fabricated
notions that the Messiah was
00:09:00.29\00:09:03.92
going to come and just overthrow
and subjugate the Romans
00:09:03.95\00:09:07.33
and exalt them to the
glory of the former kingdom
00:09:07.36\00:09:10.17
from the days of David.
00:09:10.20\00:09:11.62
And Jesus just shook His head.
00:09:12.42\00:09:13.56
He'd been with them
three and a half years
00:09:13.59\00:09:16.09
and they still
didn't understand.
00:09:16.12\00:09:17.90
Luke 24:21, after Jesus
died and rose, He appeared to
00:09:18.35\00:09:22.30
some of the disciples.
00:09:22.33\00:09:23.73
And they told Jesus,
didn't even know it was Jesus
00:09:23.76\00:09:25.96
they were talking to...
00:09:25.99\00:09:27.33
They had this completely
false nationalistic carnal
00:09:31.54\00:09:35.60
interpretation of the
first coming of the Messiah.
00:09:35.63\00:09:38.79
And they were so disappointed
because it didn't happen.

Could it happen
again that the church is
00:09:42.42\00:09:44.63
misinterpreting the prophecies?
00:09:44.66\00:09:47.08
We need to understand.

Now, there are quite a
few prophecies in the Bible.

About a hundred prophecies
deal the first coming.
00:09:52.14\00:09:55.82
And there's nearly
three hundred, I think is was

Dwight Moody that
came up with that number,
00:09:57.99\00:10:00.02
that deal with the
second coming of Jesus.
00:10:00.05\00:10:02.99
The good news is,
Jesus did come the first time
00:10:03.02\00:10:06.04
just as it was prophesied.
00:10:06.07\00:10:07.63
If we've got three hundred
prophecies that say He's coming
00:10:07.66\00:10:10.20
a second time, then we should
be encouraged He will come.
00:10:10.23\00:10:14.35
But how is He coming?
00:10:15.38\00:10:16.79
And not understanding that
can leave us exposed to great
00:10:16.82\00:10:20.09
disappointment and even loss.
00:10:20.10\00:10:22.12
We can even be eternally lost.

Let me explain why.

There are approximately
three major interpretations
00:10:26.76\00:10:31.39
regarding the second coming.
00:10:31.42\00:10:32.90
There's one
that's called, preterism.
00:10:32.93\00:10:35.22
And people that believe
this are called preterists.
00:10:35.25\00:10:37.70
And it comes from the
word "pre" which means, before.
00:10:37.73\00:10:41.49
They believe that most of
the prophecies from Daniel
00:10:41.52\00:10:44.77
and Revelation are all in
the past, they've all happened.
00:10:44.80\00:10:48.49
They think that most of
those prophecies were fulfilled
00:10:48.52\00:10:51.64
by the time John
finished the book of Revelation,
00:10:51.67\00:10:53.97
around the time of the
destruction of Jerusalem,
00:10:54.00\00:10:56.65
somewhere between 70 and 100 AD.
00:10:56.66\00:10:59.44
They think all of Revelation
is in the past already.
00:10:59.47\00:11:01.76
They think Nero
was the antichrist.
00:11:02.06\00:11:03.94
Now that is the
smallest of the three groups.

The two major groups are what
we're going to be addressing

tonight between
Pastor Barney and I.

And that has to do with
historicism or the historicists.

That's what most of the
Protestant reformers were.

They believed that the
prophecies of Daniel and

Revelation, they're covering
the panorama of history.

And some are in the past,
some are still in the future.

But it gives a scope of God
leading His people over time.

And then a newly
formed very popular group

are the futurists, or futurism.

And the futurists, if I was
to summarize what it believes,

it has become very popular
through a series of books
00:11:47.53\00:11:51.20
called, the Left Behind series.
00:11:51.21\00:11:53.59
You go back 150 years, virtually
no Christians believed in the
00:11:54.01\00:11:58.48
futuristic
interpretation of prophecy.
00:11:58.51\00:12:00.95
It is a fairly new invention.
00:12:00.98\00:12:03.55
Oh, and I think you might
find it interesting to know,
00:12:03.58\00:12:05.91
preterism was developed by
a man named Luis De Alcazar.
00:12:05.94\00:12:11.83
He lived between
1554 and 1613, a Jesuit.
00:12:11.86\00:12:16.76
Futurism was written up by
a Jesuit doctor of theology,
00:12:17.66\00:12:21.31
Francisco Ribera,
sometime around 1560.
00:12:21.34\00:12:25.08
And both of these other notions
of prophetic interpretation;

and you can read this,
this is in the history books.

I don't think even Pastor
Barney will disagree with this,

so I'm still in the
mediator position here.

This is just facts of
history what the origins

of these things are.

Futurism, which
differs from what we believe as

Seventh-day
Adventists, states these things.

First of all, the secret
rapture is silent and invisible.

points of difference.

Two, the secret
rapture leaves the wicked alive

after the Lord comes to
take the righteous away.

Three, God removes the
righteous to protect them

from the tribulation.

Four, that Christ's second
coming will be in two stages;

A, the secret rapture
and B, the actual coming

which is later and that's going
to be glorious and visible.

Five, these two
stages are separated by

seven years of tribulation.

Six, the rapture
will take place before the

revelation of antichrist.

You get that wrong and
you could be real mixed up.

Seven, the wicked will at
this point have a second chance

to be converted.

A second chance to be
converted if they're not ready

for the secret rapture.

And that is sort of the summary
of what the Left Behind scenario

Now with that introduction,
we're going to delve into and

a very important, at times,

what may seem
like a complex subject.

both sides of this issue.

we're going to consider.

about the seventh day.

Well, we're called
Seventh-day Adventists.

Adventist means, people
who are looking forward to the

imminent advent of Jesus.

Why that
emphasis even in the name?

Alright well, I'm
going to start out this time.

Titus chapter 2 verse 13.

I shared this, there's
over 300 prophecies in the Bible

that talk about
the Lord's coming.

It was obviously
important to Jesus.

It should be
important to His people.

And if once the Lord comes,
and this is very important,

as Seventh-day Adventists
believe, once the Lord comes

the saved are saved
and the lost are lost,

then people need to know to
get ready for that event because

there is no mercy
beyond the second coming,

according to what we believe.

think there is still another
chance even after Jesus comes.

That could be very dangerous.

Secondly, Revelation 22:20,
the last chapter in the Bible

the Holy Bible, Jesus said:

Now we've all heard
about people's last words.

Sometimes a person's
last words sort of set the

trend of their history.

I would think as a Christian
that the last words of Jesus

should be a first
priority for His followers.

And so, the reason we're called
Seventh-day Adventist Christians

is because the Bibles tells us
there's a sanctifying influence.

Beloved, since you believe
these things, then we should be

found of Him
without spot and blameless.

Because we know that
our lives are limited,

that Jesus is coming soon, we
want to be ready for that day.

knowing that the Lord is coming.

I mean, let's face it.

If we realize that our
lives are limited, and if you...

age is, but the longer you live

If you shouldn't be
alive tomorrow, your next

is the resurrection.

And as far as you're
concerned, the Lord has come.

And so, don't ever be ashamed
about preaching the importance

and the imminence of
Jesus' coming, because even if

you live to a
hundred, compared to eternity

our lives are like a vapor.

So every Christian
should always be emphasizing the

nearness of Christ's coming.

Because He could come for
anybody watching or anybody here

within 24 hours.

So that's one reason.

going to be a literal day.
