He confronted an
apostate church leader.

Because Ahab was not only
the king, he was the leader

of the church of Israel.

Who was Elijah?

Elijah was charismatic;
the gifts of the Spirit,

controversial, plain spoken,

independent spokesman for God.

These very words make
modern religionists cringe

because they
are so far from God.

He was a man sent from God.

But usually today, we do
not want men sent from God.

We want whispering hopes.

We want church politicians.

But he was a man sent from God.

He was a reformer who demanded
reformation in a corrupt church.

In today's parlance,
he was politically and

religiously incorrect.

He was the voice of one
crying in the wilderness,

"Prepare the way of the Lord."

evil in the eyes of the Lord

than any of those before him.

trivial to commit the sins of

but he also married Jezebel

Baal and worship him.

He set up an altar for
Baal in the temple of Baal

Ahab also made an Asherah
pole and did more to provoke

the Lord, the God of Israel,
to anger than did all the kings

You say, he was a bad man.

He was, and he did bad things.

And the Bible says he
provoked the Lord to anger.

In today's age, we do
not like to talk about the

anger of the Lord.

But I want to
tell you something.

The Lord's anger is going
to be poured out upon those who

apostatize from the holy truth
and lead God's people into sin.

Ahab was weak.

When he didn't get what

his face to the wall and cried
until Jezebel came and said,

"What's wrong,
honey? I'll get it for you."

Israel was in apostasy.

Look at chapter
14 verses 23 and 24.

"They also set up for themselves
high places, sacred stones,

and Asherah poles on
every high hill and under

every spreading tree.

There were even male
shrine prostitutes in the land."

And you can read on.

And chapter 21 and verse 25.

"There was never a man
like Ahab, who sold himself

to do evil in
the eyes of the Lord,

urged on by Jezebel his wife."

If you've got a good wife,
you ought to say, thank God.

But he had a wife
who led him down to evil.

They were worshiping pagan gods.

We're talking here about Israel.

They were engaging in
vile sexual practices.

Is anything new?

They were breaking
God's commandments,

including God's holy Sabbath.

Jezebel had her own religion
that persecuted and murdered

the preachers of God
and the prophets of God.

But she was
murdering the prophets of God.

And they were hidden
by a wise man in a cave.

And God was angry.

And He sent a drought,
we're told in the book of James,

for three and a half years.

years when church and state

That's what they'll say when you
are preaching the word of God.
