Lord for Melody and for

And when she was
born, the doctors told us it

was going to be a boy.

They didn't do the
ultrasounds back then.

Way back in 19...

She told me not to tell her age.

We both hit marks each
time to get to 20, 30, 40, 50.

We each get these certain,
and Melody and I both hit

one of those miles stones.
00:05:04.06\00:05:05.11
But she doesn't want me
to tell you which one it is,

though mine is 60 and
hers sure wasn't 50 or 30.

And so it's somewhere in
between and I won't tell you

what it is because she
never wants me to tell her age.

But if I were that young, I'd
be proud of it, wouldn't you.

I'd be bragging about it.

But when she was born,
the doctors thought she was

going to be a boy.

The doctor, I should say.

When we found out it was a
girl, we didn't have a name.

So I asked her Mother Kay, "What
are we going to name this baby?"

She said, "Let's think
about it and pray about it."

So at that time, she
and my brother Tommy and I,

we had a little trio
and we travelled on a

diesel greyhound bus.
00:05:39.63\00:05:40.66
And we were
traveling doing gospel music.

And so the next morning
I went back, and she said,

"Let's name her Melody
as in music, and Dawn as the
00:05:45.32\00:05:49.65
dawn of new music
in the Shelton home."

So that's what we did and
we dedicated her to the Lord.

We said, "Lord, we'll raise
her in an atmosphere free of

any other type of music in
our home if you'll give her

and bless her with
musical gifts and abilities."

And God has done that.
