of the most repeated statements,

statements by Ellen White

is the idea, the notion,
that we ought be a people of

what she calls,
practical godliness.

That our religion
ought to have feet on it.

That our
religion ought to be real.
00:00:56.57\00:00:59.04
That along with the theological
background and undergirding
00:00:59.07\00:01:02.91
of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church, we ought to be

people who bring our religion
into our everyday lives.

She calls that,
practical godliness.

It is practical godliness
that attracts people to the
00:01:11.49\00:01:15.02
Word of God and to the
Seventh-day Adventist Church.

And so during these meetings,
Jim Gilley has been walking us

call practical godliness.

What do you do when
you've got fear, Danny?

Almost this November will be 27
years ago that I was impressed

the Lord wanted us to build
a station to reach the world

with an undiluted
three angels messages;

one that will
counteract the counterfeit.

I didn't have names,
titles, and programs but I knew
00:01:57.07\00:02:00.26
that God wanted
3ABN to give a message
00:02:00.29\00:02:03.72
to a lost and dying world.
00:02:03.75\00:02:05.07
A present truth, a message
that literally will help people

make it to the kingdom.

And I'm always so encouraged.

And then when I
see things, I'm amazed.

And even when I stay home
and I turn on 3ABN and I see

this, Anchors Of Truth,

I say, you know, this is
exactly 27 years later and 3ABN,

thanks to all of you around
the world, is still going.

How do we know?

We think about Ken Cox series,
some of the other series that

were more theologically based.

But someone spoke
with me just last night.

They're going into
full time ministry.

They gave up a good
accounting job, now they're just
00:03:14.35\00:03:16.95
trusting on the Lord.
00:03:16.98\00:03:17.96
And worry has set in.
00:03:17.99\00:03:20.21
And she said that Jim, the
night before, said just the
00:03:20.24\00:03:22.92
right thing to sort of settle
her down and trust in the Lord.

And these are the
kinds of things, Danny, that

Christians go through.
00:03:28.62\00:03:29.73
We have these kinds of;
we're not immune to fear,

we're not immune to worry,
we're not immune to doubt.

In fact, Satan
presses these things in.

So along with the
theology, we need to talk about;

how do you deal with everyday
problems that Christians face.

And that's what Jim has
been doing during this series.

And what I found out
in my own life, they say,

"Out of sight, out of mind."

With 3ABN, it's ever present.

When we're watching it and we
are being brought these truths,

not only for what's happening,

have been here about four years.

Now this tells us about a
situation that Joshua is facing.

You see, Moses has just
died and Joshua is afraid.

He has been right to the
edge of the Promise Land before.

He was a young man then.
00:12:49.58\00:12:51.21
He had the courage, he
and Caleb, and they were
00:12:51.24\00:12:53.33
ready to go across.

But the people were
not ready to go across.

And so they were
delayed by 40 years.

And now they are there again.

But fear has gripped his heart,

this man of courage,

and God is speaking to him.

tell you something.

This is the God
who gives us warnings.

There are warnings
all through the Bible.

There are
prophecies in the Word.

There are severe statements.

But this is also the
God that talks about courage

and talks about encouragement.

And He wants
you to be lifted up.

He wants you to have
courage to face the world.

And here, He's
talking about this.

And this very text
that He gives to Joshua

is meant for you today.

"No man shall be
able to stand before you

all the days of your

so I will be with you.

I will never leave
you nor forsake you."

We have read that text a
number of times in this series.

Because that is the assurance.

Because this is
the very word of God.

Have you ever felt forsaken?

Of course you have.

Everybody has.

But I will tell you,
from the promise of God,

that he says He
will not forsake.

Verse 6, "Be strong and of
good courage, for to this people

"Only be strong," verse 7
says, "and very courageous,

do all according to the law."

Verse 8, "The Book of
the Law shall not depart from

your mouth, but you shall
meditate in it day and night."

That scripture; the law,
including the Ten Commandments

and all of God's Word, He
says you need to meditate on it.

And these are the words of God.

This is not even
a prophet speaking.

This is God speaking to Joshua.

And He says, "You
must meditate on the Word."

You want strength for the
times in which we're living?

You've got to open the Word.

There is strength in the Word.

Meditate upon
it. Spend time in it.

Because this is where
God speaks to each one of us.

He says, "Do according
to all that is written.

You want to have
success in your life?

And I'm not talking
about piling up money.

I'm talking about
being effective for God.

He says if you want that,
then meditate upon the Word

and study the Word of God.

Verse 9, "Have I
not commanded you?

Be strong and of good courage."

God repeats it five times.

Be strong, be of good courage.

You know, sometimes people will
ask you, "How is your courage?"

Now there's a lot of
different ways to answer that.

And courage is a word
that we sometimes don't

really and truly understand.

Confidence might be
a little more something

that we would understand.

And the word confidence
comes from two Latin words;

"con" means all together,

and "fidere"
means trust or faith.

Confidence

Do we have all
together faith and trust?

You see, our confidence
must not be in ourselves,

but we must have confidence.

It has to come from God,
not something we build up.

You see, this is where all
the positive thinking people

get it all messed up.

They have the
confidence being in you.

No, the
confidence is not in you.

That will cause a lot
of problems, believe me.

The confidence must be in God.

But you know, the old devil,
he's got it really worked up.

See, he will get the people of
the world off on the wrong side.

The counterfeit is this
positive living type concept

that you see in the world today.

That is where people
build up faith in themselves.

That's not what
God is talking about.

He didn't tell Joshua,
"Build up faith in yourself."

He didn't say that.

He said, "Trust in
Me. Go to the Word."

You get your confidence, you
get your courage from the Word.

You don't get it by self.

That's not where it comes from.

But you see, that's
what the world teaches.

Now as Christians, we
see that and so we say,

"Oh, I don't want to have
anything to do with that."

So we miss out on the genuine.

Now listen, there's counterfeit
money out there, isn't there.

Just because there is
counterfeit money out there

does not mean that you don't
accept your money every week

through working, right?

You don't say, "Oh no,

There's counterfeit
money all over the place.

I don't want to touch that."

You see, the devil will
try to get you to give up

that which is good
because of that which is bad.
