We were talking 00:07:05.15\00:07:08.29 about the weather. We've had some weather 00:07:08.30\00:07:13.09 here recently. And that was talk of a storm 00:07:13.10\00:07:19.29 watch. There is a shelter, there is a save 00:09:13.78\00:09:16.66 place and we can make sense of the madness 00:09:16.67\00:09:19.47 looking at the prophecies of the Bible as they 00:09:20.09\00:09:22.60 point to Jesus as our Lord and Savior. 00:09:22.61\00:09:24.61 That's Babylon rising starting May 25. 00:09:24.85\00:09:27.38 I wonder if we could pray now and ask God's 00:09:28.04\00:09:30.28 special blessing on our time as we study 00:09:30.29\00:09:33.56 the sanctuary Part-3 now series and this one 00:09:33.57\00:09:37.04 is called Intentionality. The first time around 00:09:37.05\00:09:41.42 Reality, second time Spirituality and now 00:09:41.43\00:09:45.89 Intentionality. And if you see a pattern 00:09:45.90\00:09:47.96 developing that's good. And if you wonder, 00:09:47.97\00:09:50.39 did I scratch my head trying to find words 00:09:50.80\00:09:52.67 ending in Ality? You know the answer is yes. 00:09:52.68\00:09:56.37 Let's pray. Our Father in heaven, 00:09:57.56\00:09:59.99 it is always a privilege to be able to come to 00:10:01.92\00:10:03.66 you in the name of Jesus Your Son. 00:10:03.67\00:10:05.31 We are thankful this day because there is a 00:10:07.45\00:10:10.79 Savior; we are thankful this day because 00:10:10.80\00:10:15.12 Your sacred word points us to Christ and shows 00:10:15.13\00:10:21.45 us that there is a hope for humanity in a 00:10:21.46\00:10:24.54 hurting world. As we study the, 00:10:24.55\00:10:28.65 study these "Anchors of Truth" we pray 00:10:28.84\00:10:32.99 Your special blessing in Jesus name, amen. 00:10:33.00\00:10:38.34 Here's the story as I read it, 00:10:41.41\00:10:43.09 it was reported in the Milwaukee Journal 00:10:44.25\00:10:47.26 in 1946. And so, because it appeared in a 00:10:47.27\00:10:50.76 newspaper I'm just going to assume that the 00:10:50.77\00:10:52.49 story is true I think it is. It was during the 00:10:52.50\00:10:57.38 last days of World War II in 1945, 00:10:57.39\00:11:02.81 German forces were occupying the City of 00:11:03.50\00:11:05.82 Sastin near the Czechoslovakian border 00:11:05.83\00:11:10.43 close to Austria. Now, I got to check and 00:11:10.62\00:11:13.37 see whether it's in Czechoslovakia that's it 00:11:13.38\00:11:15.80 is now in Slovakia because Czechoslovakia 00:11:15.81\00:11:19.42 split into two countries on the first day 00:11:20.24\00:11:22.14 of 1993. So, what was in Czechoslovakia is 00:11:22.15\00:11:25.40 now in Slovakia. Russian forces were bearing 00:11:25.41\00:11:30.28 down upon the German troops, and when 00:11:30.29\00:11:32.89 I say bearing down they were close, 00:11:32.90\00:11:34.73 you could hear them. Remember the war is 00:11:34.98\00:11:37.22 coming to an end, the German troops are 00:11:37.23\00:11:39.19 fleeing for their lives, trying to get back to 00:11:39.20\00:11:42.07 Germany before all hope for they must lost. 00:11:42.08\00:11:45.04 Now, there was a Nazi Commandant that 00:11:45.07\00:11:48.35 day they were, they had occupied the 00:11:48.36\00:11:51.45 mayor's office in the Townhall in Sastin 00:11:51.46\00:11:54.30 that's what the German troops it setup the 00:11:54.74\00:11:56.12 headquarters. And this particular military 00:11:56.13\00:11:59.86 leader was nervous, his personal car was 00:11:59.87\00:12:05.70 was outside, motor was running, 00:12:05.71\00:12:08.16 they was just waiting for him to come and 00:12:08.32\00:12:09.54 get into the car and leave and go to safety. 00:12:09.55\00:12:12.14 And, and he had become now, 00:12:12.57\00:12:14.12 but he had a problem, the problem was he 00:12:15.26\00:12:17.43 had a whole Pile of trunks not, 00:12:17.44\00:12:20.51 I mean swimming trunks I mean those kind of 00:12:20.52\00:12:23.15 trunks. He had trunks you know, 00:12:23.16\00:12:25.43 cases let's its call him cases, stuffed to the 00:12:25.44\00:12:28.90 brim with Czechoslovakian Korunas. 00:12:28.91\00:12:31.66 Now, Korunas, the Koruna was the unit of 00:12:32.21\00:12:35.42 currency. They had looted the 00:12:35.43\00:12:37.94 Czechoslovakian Central Bank and just 00:12:37.95\00:12:41.42 taken all of the money and stuff it into these 00:12:41.98\00:12:44.90 cases, these trunks and this man was planning 00:12:45.17\00:12:48.60 to be fabulously rich one day, but now here 00:12:48.91\00:12:51.90 came the Russian troops, what you're gonna 00:12:51.91\00:12:53.87 do? He had to get in this car, there wasn't 00:12:53.88\00:12:56.28 time to wait, there wasn't room in the car 00:12:56.29\00:12:58.67 for him and his trunks. So, he found a couple 00:12:58.68\00:13:01.91 of Czechoslovakian peasants, he said, look, 00:13:01.92\00:13:04.62 guard these trunks, I will be back for them 00:13:05.04\00:13:08.21 one day, don't let anything happen to them, 00:13:08.22\00:13:10.26 don't mess with them, don't look in them, 00:13:10.54\00:13:12.41 when I come back I will reward you handsomely, 00:13:13.30\00:13:15.38 you'll be very rich, you'll never have any 00:13:15.39\00:13:16.81 more financial worries, just guard these trunks. 00:13:16.82\00:13:19.37 Off he went, the next day Russian troops 00:13:20.27\00:13:24.67 came into their office, what was the mayor's 00:13:24.68\00:13:26.85 office in the Townhall and they found the Pile 00:13:26.86\00:13:29.20 of trunks they broke one open and discovered 00:13:29.21\00:13:31.89 filled with money. What a happy day for a 00:13:32.65\00:13:37.14 Russian military man to stumble across 00:13:37.15\00:13:39.66 an obscene amount of money and it was all 00:13:39.98\00:13:43.75 his, but you got to remember there was 00:13:44.10\00:13:47.88 something on his mind, on his mind was getting 00:13:47.89\00:13:49.91 the job done, getting the war over, 00:13:49.92\00:13:51.91 pursuing the, the fleeing Germans. 00:13:52.22\00:13:55.05 And as he said to somebody else, 00:13:55.47\00:13:57.23 who knows if I'll even be alive this time tomorrow. 00:13:57.51\00:13:59.99 So, let's do something with this money. 00:14:01.16\00:14:03.70 No one knows what that man's name was, 00:14:04.05\00:14:05.48 I bet if they found out that had built a memorial 00:14:05.49\00:14:08.07 to the man there in Sastin. He said here's 00:14:08.08\00:14:09.87 what we're gonna do? We're gonna divide 00:14:09.88\00:14:12.23 this money among all the people here in Sastin. 00:14:12.24\00:14:15.71 It was I think a hundred, now I wrote it down 00:14:16.11\00:14:17.88 a 105 million. No, no, no, no one hundred 00:14:17.89\00:14:21.18 and fifty, three million Korunas, three hundred 00:14:21.19\00:14:24.95 million. In 1946 dollars more than 6 million 00:14:24.96\00:14:30.01 US dollars. And so, they decided that they 00:14:30.40\00:14:35.96 would just divide the money up among the 00:14:35.97\00:14:38.74 people of Sastin, however old you were, 00:14:38.75\00:14:42.29 you got a thousand Korunas, 50 years old 00:14:42.71\00:14:45.73 50,000, 5 years old 5000, they split it all. 00:14:45.90\00:14:50.86 People with large families ended up with 00:14:51.47\00:14:53.29 maybe 200,000 Korunas, it was a massive sum 00:14:53.30\00:14:58.90 of money in that day. These poor literally 00:14:58.91\00:15:03.64 downtrodden people went in a moment 00:15:04.79\00:15:08.23 without expecting it from rags to riches, 00:15:08.94\00:15:14.54 from rags to great riches. And I have to 00:15:15.03\00:15:20.65 admit that when I first read that story, 00:15:20.66\00:15:23.10 I read that story with a little touch of envy. 00:15:23.40\00:15:27.45 Haven't you ever wondered what it would 00:15:27.95\00:15:29.18 be like? Just to fall into all that money. 00:15:29.19\00:15:32.46 I remember when I was a kid and we'd read 00:15:32.91\00:15:34.45 these comic books and that would be a 00:15:34.46\00:15:36.36 comic book story about Scrooge McDuck, 00:15:36.37\00:15:38.68 who had so much money, he had enormous 00:15:39.04\00:15:41.28 boats built and he would swim around in his 00:15:41.29\00:15:44.53 massive, I mean it was ridiculous of course, 00:15:44.54\00:15:46.65 but he would swim around his massive piles 00:15:46.82\00:15:49.87 of money and as a child look at that comic 00:15:49.88\00:15:52.58 book and think, well that would be nice, 00:15:52.59\00:15:56.61 money is not all bad you know, I mean if, 00:15:57.24\00:15:59.31 if you're burdened by your great riches, 00:15:59.32\00:16:01.36 just come and talk to me I'm sure we can 00:16:01.79\00:16:03.15 work something out without too much trouble. 00:16:03.16\00:16:05.42 God isn't against money? Not at all, 00:16:06.52\00:16:08.68 you read in the Bible there was Solomon 00:16:09.01\00:16:10.51 fantastically wealthy, David wonderfully wealthy, 00:16:10.52\00:16:13.74 Abraham very rich man. Now, the Bible says, 00:16:13.89\00:16:16.99 the problem is the love of money. 00:16:17.00\00:16:18.38 The love of money is the root of all kinds of 00:16:18.60\00:16:20.16 evil the word of God says. In reality, in the 00:16:20.17\00:16:23.31 grand scheme of things worldly wealth while 00:16:23.32\00:16:26.00 it's good, it's not what the Christian, 00:16:26.01\00:16:28.80 it's not what the believer in God is striving 00:16:28.81\00:16:31.47 after, worldly wealth can be a curse. 00:16:31.48\00:16:35.44 Not very many years ago a baker in England 00:16:36.17\00:16:38.63 his Keith Goff won the lottery, he won, 00:16:38.64\00:16:42.09 it was either eight or nine million pounds at 00:16:42.26\00:16:45.20 the time it was close to $14 million. 00:16:45.21\00:16:48.78 He said at the time my wife and I will never 00:16:48.96\00:16:51.61 have to worry again. About year ago he died, 00:16:52.00\00:16:56.79 he lost his marriage, he lost his friends, 00:16:57.63\00:17:01.35 now he gained a whole lot of friends to begin 00:17:01.81\00:17:03.32 with then he lost them. He lost most of his 00:17:03.33\00:17:06.25 money, he lost his health, ended up having 00:17:06.26\00:17:09.26 a heart attack and heart trouble because 00:17:09.27\00:17:10.87 he spend all his time worrying about his 00:17:10.88\00:17:13.19 money. Before he died he said that he 00:17:13.20\00:17:16.24 wished he had never won the lottery. 00:17:16.25\00:17:19.08 He said, what's the point of having money 00:17:19.09\00:17:21.22 when it sends you to bed crying? 00:17:21.23\00:17:23.36 Rags to riches, sounds nice, might be, 00:17:24.78\00:17:28.28 might not be. Rags to riches, well whatever 00:17:28.88\00:17:35.54 happens with you and your money, 00:17:35.55\00:17:37.37 if you get in an inheritance, or win the, 00:17:37.92\00:17:39.91 no you're not gonna win the lottery. Amen. 00:17:40.97\00:17:43.52 If you happen to fall into a whole pile of 00:17:43.82\00:17:45.33 money, may the road rise up to meet you 00:17:45.34\00:17:47.21 and God bless you, but that's not why 00:17:47.22\00:17:48.72 we're here on this earth. One good thing 00:17:48.73\00:17:51.34 we know for sure is that the believer in 00:17:51.35\00:17:53.93 Jesus can go instantaneously from rags 00:17:53.94\00:18:00.11 to righteousness. Amen. Open with me 00:18:01.05\00:18:03.49 your Bible, we gonna go to the Book of 00:18:03.50\00:18:04.93 Philippians, Philippians chapter 3, 00:18:04.94\00:18:08.17 Philippians chapter 3. In Philippians chapter 3, 00:18:08.69\00:18:12.20 the Apostle Paul is dealing with the question 00:18:12.21\00:18:14.32 of experiencing true righteousness. 00:18:14.65\00:18:17.66 Now, he made it clear that there was a true 00:18:18.17\00:18:20.39 righteousness and a false righteousness. 00:18:20.40\00:18:24.28 Philippians its right after Ephesians, 00:18:24.57\00:18:26.39 I've just discovered. Philippians and chapter 3 00:18:26.40\00:18:29.60 and, and the Apostle Paul was somebody who, 00:18:30.11\00:18:34.53 who if anybody could be self righteous it 00:18:35.53\00:18:38.73 would be the Apostle Paul. Here's what he says 00:18:38.74\00:18:42.14 in Philippians chapter 3 and verse 4 he says: 00:18:42.41\00:18:45.11 Though I might also have confidence in the 00:18:45.45\00:18:47.88 flesh. I might, if any man thinketh that he 00:18:47.89\00:18:52.17 hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, 00:18:52.18\00:18:54.63 I more. If you think you've got a reason to 00:18:54.85\00:18:58.70 feel self-righteous, I've got more reasons than 00:18:58.71\00:19:01.89 you. And he goes onto say this. 00:19:01.90\00:19:04.00 He describes himself in verse 5 as having 00:19:06.72\00:19:08.63 been circumcised the eight day of the stock 00:19:08.64\00:19:11.82 of Israel, of the Tribe of Benjamin. 00:19:11.83\00:19:14.56 What do you think he, what do you think he 00:19:14.75\00:19:15.89 were, he referenced the Tribe the Benjamin 00:19:15.90\00:19:17.83 because that's the tribe that what? 00:19:18.50\00:19:19.89 That King Saul came from. It's possible that 00:19:20.16\00:19:22.54 Saul was named after King Saul possible. 00:19:22.55\00:19:26.08 So, he says, I'm even from the same tribe 00:19:26.53\00:19:28.31 as the first King of Israel. He says that: 00:19:28.51\00:19:30.64 I am a Hebrew of the Hebrews when it 00:19:31.29\00:19:33.18 comes to the law I am a Pharisee. 00:19:33.19\00:19:35.44 If you want to know how zealous I've been, 00:19:35.70\00:19:37.75 I persecuted the Church, when it came to the 00:19:38.08\00:19:40.55 righteousness which is in the law I was 00:19:40.56\00:19:43.87 blameless. Now, I don't know, if you can say, 00:19:44.24\00:19:47.81 when it comes to the righteousness as 00:19:48.10\00:19:51.17 contained in the law, when it comes to the 00:19:51.18\00:19:53.22 ideals and biblical teachings and principles 00:19:54.46\00:19:57.61 as held by the Church I am blameless, 00:19:57.84\00:20:01.54 if you tell me you are, well I'll tell you, 00:20:02.04\00:20:03.43 you're kidding yourself, but Paul was able to 00:20:03.44\00:20:05.22 say that he was blameless, that's a 00:20:05.23\00:20:09.48 righteous character, but then he went onto 00:20:09.66\00:20:13.25 say this: Yea doubtless, and I count all things 00:20:13.26\00:20:17.64 but what? Loss for the Excellency of the 00:20:17.65\00:20:22.00 knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: 00:20:22.01\00:20:24.12 for whom I have suffered the loss of all things. 00:20:24.38\00:20:27.14 And notice he says: And I do count them but 00:20:27.23\00:20:30.04 dung. That's, that's graphic I know, 00:20:30.34\00:20:33.27 there are some versions they put it politely 00:20:33.28\00:20:34.88 and say, refuse. I count them as refuse that 00:20:34.89\00:20:38.69 I might win Christ. Now, it's like somebody 00:20:38.70\00:20:44.32 saying, my family has been in the Church for 00:20:44.33\00:20:46.56 five generations. My father was a pastor, 00:20:46.57\00:20:49.39 my grandfather was a pastor, 00:20:49.40\00:20:51.23 I've got uncles and aunts, who sailed the seas 00:20:51.24\00:20:53.59 as missionaries, serving the Church in far 00:20:53.60\00:20:55.58 flung parts of the world. I eat ripe, 00:20:55.59\00:20:58.69 I tithe, I go to Church when the Lord says 00:20:59.94\00:21:04.64 in the Bible I ought to go to Church, 00:21:04.65\00:21:06.87 if the Church teaches it, I am for it, 00:21:07.21\00:21:11.83 that's the kind of attitude that Paul was 00:21:11.84\00:21:13.44 talking about here. Now, that's not to say 00:21:13.45\00:21:15.31 that those things are bad things, those are 00:21:15.32\00:21:17.30 good Paul's lineage was an advantage to him. 00:21:17.31\00:21:22.08 He grew up with rich traditions. 00:21:22.59\00:21:25.48 He grew up with solid teachings. 00:21:25.78\00:21:28.42 He grew up surrounded like he was an 00:21:28.63\00:21:31.71 incubator of the Church of his day. 00:21:32.04\00:21:34.35 Paul had some advantages down there, 00:21:34.57\00:21:37.03 but he recognized something. 00:21:37.33\00:21:39.25 He recognized that when it came to being 00:21:39.88\00:21:41.43 righteous. All the goodness that a man or 00:21:41.44\00:21:45.15 woman can conjure up isn't worth a thing. 00:21:45.16\00:21:52.07 And it wouldn't hurt us to think about that 00:21:53.56\00:21:55.24 for a moment because there are people still, 00:21:55.25\00:21:56.94 still, who assume that because they go to 00:21:56.95\00:22:00.81 Church every week, because they don't 00:22:00.82\00:22:05.67 commit adultery, because they don't cheat, 00:22:05.90\00:22:08.50 a text time, they think that that they got 00:22:09.63\00:22:13.28 to be righteous because they went to Church 00:22:13.29\00:22:15.50 school, went to a Church University, 00:22:15.51\00:22:19.23 you would be surprised how pervasive this 00:22:19.41\00:22:21.15 idea was? I grew up in the system, 00:22:21.16\00:22:23.00 system not going to save you, hasn't ever 00:22:24.15\00:22:27.37 saved anybody, they're as good as Pharisees, 00:22:27.38\00:22:30.91 when they rely on this stuff? Lots of outward 00:22:31.00\00:22:34.29 observance, great profession, the good 00:22:34.30\00:22:36.96 amount of dedication to what indeed is a 00:22:36.97\00:22:40.20 good and perhaps a just and godly cause, 00:22:40.21\00:22:43.45 but when you think that because of all of that 00:22:44.80\00:22:47.09 you're gonna get a leg up towards the 00:22:47.64\00:22:50.40 kingdom of heaven, that's not how Paul 00:22:50.41\00:22:53.90 saw it. He said all the attributes that I might 00:22:53.91\00:22:57.42 have considered to contribute to my 00:22:57.43\00:22:59.81 righteousness, all of the things that I 00:22:59.82\00:23:02.21 might have been tempted to lean on in the 00:23:02.22\00:23:04.47 flesh and cause me to think that maybe I'm 00:23:04.48\00:23:07.62 a little better or right in the eyes of God. 00:23:07.63\00:23:09.68 Paul said, it's just refuse, it's just dung. 00:23:09.69\00:23:12.41 Righteousness involves an awful lot, it, 00:23:12.65\00:23:15.76 it's not just saying the right words, 00:23:15.77\00:23:17.81 it's not just making the right movements, 00:23:17.82\00:23:20.04 it's not just doing the right things outwardly 00:23:20.05\00:23:22.82 that constitutes righteousness. 00:23:22.83\00:23:24.86 Now, there is no question. You may have 00:23:25.25\00:23:26.73 heard they said, righteousness is right 00:23:26.74\00:23:29.33 doing, now that's right, that's right, 00:23:29.34\00:23:32.35 but if you focus on the doing in order to be 00:23:32.71\00:23:34.75 right, you'll never be righteous. 00:23:34.91\00:23:36.54 Right doing can only come from right being. 00:23:36.77\00:23:41.55 Amen. And the sanctuary, that's helps 00:23:41.56\00:23:44.36 us understand how in the eyes of God we can 00:23:44.37\00:23:48.15 be right. Paul tells us explicitly in his letter 00:23:48.48\00:23:54.59 to the Philippians. That what we need is not 00:23:54.60\00:23:57.36 our own righteousness, but and you got to 00:23:57.37\00:24:00.26 try to get your head around us, 00:24:00.27\00:24:01.64 what we need is the righteousness of God. 00:24:01.90\00:24:05.27 Now, you start talking like this and you can 00:24:07.27\00:24:10.43 make people nervous. The righteousness 00:24:10.44\00:24:13.67 of God is some pretty righteous righteousness. 00:24:13.68\00:24:17.81 Do you think we could call this righteousness 00:24:18.97\00:24:20.74 that Paul was talking about complete 00:24:20.75\00:24:22.49 righteousness? Could we call it that? 00:24:22.50\00:24:24.60 I, I hope we can because it's God's 00:24:25.65\00:24:27.16 righteousness of it's incomplete and God 00:24:27.17\00:24:29.61 got some issues. Do you think we could call 00:24:29.62\00:24:32.10 God's righteousness perfect righteousness? 00:24:32.11\00:24:34.91 Yes or no? Yes. No question. 00:24:34.92\00:24:36.69 God's righteousness would be perfect 00:24:37.13\00:24:39.37 righteousness. And what Paul is telling us is 00:24:39.66\00:24:42.90 that we ought to have perfect 00:24:42.91\00:24:45.71 righteousness, complete righteousness, 00:24:45.72\00:24:49.29 God's righteousness. Now, that might be 00:24:49.90\00:24:53.84 intimidating, if you would have take a 00:24:53.85\00:24:56.93 little violent think about your wickedness 00:24:56.94\00:25:00.70 and your sinfulness. Let me digress you for a 00:25:00.94\00:25:04.15 moment. Did you way that here it said that 00:25:04.16\00:25:07.18 the biggest battle we ever have to fight 00:25:07.19\00:25:09.10 is the battle against self? Did you ever 00:25:09.11\00:25:10.97 hear that's it? Let, let me define that for you. 00:25:10.98\00:25:13.64 That might be, that might be driving pass 00:25:14.14\00:25:17.89 McDonalds and saying, I can't go by without 00:25:17.90\00:25:20.71 getting a quarter pounder with cheese, 00:25:20.72\00:25:22.82 I have to do it. That might be, 00:25:23.45\00:25:26.25 that that might be self, right? I, I know I 00:25:29.96\00:25:35.24 shouldn't eat that big bucket load of M&Ms, 00:25:35.25\00:25:38.01 but I can't help it. I have to have them. 00:25:38.02\00:25:41.31 That might be self, right? Sure it might. 00:25:42.63\00:25:44.75 It might be sitting at the table and someone 00:25:45.00\00:25:46.70 says, I'm gonna reach over and take the 00:25:46.71\00:25:48.11 last crop of corn and you say, 00:25:48.12\00:25:50.19 no you won't. And you grab and say, 00:25:50.48\00:25:51.89 I got it. That might be self, could that be self? 00:25:52.64\00:25:57.10 Could you call it that? Could you call that 00:25:57.24\00:25:58.66 self? Sure, you could, you could that would 00:25:58.67\00:26:01.53 be okay. But let me come at this from 00:26:01.54\00:26:03.63 another angle, if you're sitting around be 00:26:03.64\00:26:06.36 molding your spiritual lack and you were 00:26:06.37\00:26:08.90 saying, God couldn't love me. 00:26:08.91\00:26:11.16 I'm gonna tell you what you've got. 00:26:11.17\00:26:12.31 You've got a problem with self. 00:26:12.32\00:26:14.10 If you're saying, I'm too sinful to go to 00:26:15.05\00:26:17.10 heaven, then you've got a problem with self, 00:26:17.11\00:26:19.26 you've got a problem way worse then 00:26:19.55\00:26:21.42 somebody who lies awake at night dreaming 00:26:21.43\00:26:23.24 of a plateful of Spare Ribs. You've got it way 00:26:23.25\00:26:25.54 worse than that. If you're saying, well God 00:26:25.55\00:26:28.59 calls me to come, but I fell into sin this 00:26:28.60\00:26:31.21 morning and so I think I need to just go away 00:26:31.22\00:26:34.00 from God for a while and I'll come to God, 00:26:34.01\00:26:36.44 that's just self-centeredness. 00:26:36.73\00:26:38.99 Because what you're doing is you're looking 00:26:39.71\00:26:41.01 at yourself, your own sin and you're saying 00:26:41.02\00:26:44.18 my sin is bigger than my savior. 00:26:44.30\00:26:48.39 You'll fixated on self, when you're doing that? 00:26:48.49\00:26:51.12 When we ought to be fixated on Jesus, 00:26:51.29\00:26:54.16 bigger than any sin we can commit, 00:26:54.31\00:26:55.91 with grace that abounds much more than the 00:26:56.13\00:26:58.35 sin that abounds in our lives. I'm not 00:26:58.36\00:27:00.58 minimizing sin, don't you think for a moment 00:27:00.59\00:27:02.50 I'm. Sin leads to death, it brings separation 00:27:02.51\00:27:05.75 from God, God wants it out of our lives, 00:27:05.76\00:27:08.70 but if you sit around whole day worrying 00:27:09.84\00:27:11.30 about how bad you are instead of praising 00:27:11.31\00:27:13.42 the Lord all day for how good Jesus is? 00:27:13.43\00:27:15.36 You've got a major self problem. Amen. 00:27:15.50\00:27:17.82 And it would be good to get the victory. 00:27:18.15\00:27:20.68 Now, again I say, if we talk about having the 00:27:21.57\00:27:23.83 righteousness of God, some folks are gonna 00:27:23.84\00:27:26.46 get nervous because it's very, very righteous, 00:27:26.47\00:27:29.77 righteousness. And of course it's difficult to 00:27:29.78\00:27:32.55 imagine you wouldn't even, you wouldn't 00:27:32.56\00:27:34.61 even want to use those words, would you? 00:27:34.62\00:27:36.22 How you're doing today buddy? 00:27:36.63\00:27:37.69 I'm great. What makes you so great? 00:27:37.70\00:27:39.48 I got the righteousness of God. 00:27:39.92\00:27:41.40 That would be a hard thing to say in 00:27:43.90\00:27:45.28 conversation, wouldn't it? That would be 00:27:45.29\00:27:47.09 difficult. It's hard to imagine, but that's 00:27:47.10\00:27:49.98 exactly what Paul said, we are after in 00:27:49.99\00:27:52.70 this world is not self-righteousness, 00:27:52.71\00:27:54.86 not our own righteousness, but the 00:27:55.00\00:27:56.71 righteousness of God. Isaiah got it straight, 00:27:56.72\00:28:00.11 he said in Isaiah 64 and verse 8 that: 00:28:00.33\00:28:02.61 Our righteousness is as, what? 00:28:02.62\00:28:05.27 Filthy rags, we know that verse. 00:28:05.72\00:28:07.84 Our righteousness is our as filthy rags. 00:28:08.49\00:28:12.35 We all fade as a leave. Our inequities like 00:28:12.40\00:28:15.07 the wind have taken us away. 00:28:15.08\00:28:17.37 What you can come up with in your best 00:28:17.61\00:28:19.84 efforts? Nothingness, what God has? 00:28:19.85\00:28:22.65 Now, that's a different story. 00:28:23.00\00:28:25.11 I want you to consider the crises that we 00:28:26.97\00:28:28.61 find ourselves in. I know I've mentioned this 00:28:28.62\00:28:30.51 before in this theater on, but I will 00:28:30.52\00:28:33.01 mention it again. In the beginning we had 00:28:33.02\00:28:35.11 some righteousness grandparents, 00:28:35.12\00:28:36.71 Adam and Eve and they were okay. 00:28:37.06\00:28:39.10 They will make perfect, they didn't have a 00:28:39.11\00:28:41.85 sin problem, it could be said they, they didn't 00:28:41.86\00:28:44.43 need a savior to save them from their sin 00:28:44.44\00:28:47.32 because they had never sinned. 00:28:47.65\00:28:49.08 They were made right created perfect; 00:28:49.65\00:28:53.43 they were on face-to -face terms with God. 00:28:54.33\00:28:57.30 They could dwell in the presence of God 00:28:57.51\00:28:58.92 when God came in all His full glory and 00:28:59.04\00:29:02.04 righteousness. They didn't have to run in 00:29:02.05\00:29:03.94 high. They're not like to people in Revelation 00:29:03.95\00:29:05.92 chapter 6. Who see a lamb? A lamb and 00:29:05.93\00:29:09.07 instead of looking at a lamb they call to 00:29:09.08\00:29:11.16 the mountains to fall on them. 00:29:11.17\00:29:12.42 No, Adam and Eve could say, hey here God 00:29:12.61\00:29:14.91 coming, lets go. They could go and communion 00:29:14.92\00:29:17.87 with God face-to-face, but then they sinned, 00:29:17.88\00:29:20.65 their sin separated them from God and then 00:29:21.79\00:29:24.15 they had children. And their children were 00:29:24.53\00:29:28.07 born not with the perfect righteousness 00:29:28.25\00:29:31.86 that Adam and Eve were created with. 00:29:31.87\00:29:33.54 Their children were born bent, they were 00:29:34.26\00:29:37.67 born tainted, they were born touched by sin. 00:29:37.77\00:29:42.03 I'm not suggesting they were born sinners. 00:29:42.14\00:29:45.52 Now, that's a different story, 00:29:45.91\00:29:47.15 I mean when I and, and we're not gonna 00:29:47.16\00:29:48.31 play around splitting hairs and fighting 00:29:48.32\00:29:50.56 about words Yea. But when folks were born 00:29:50.57\00:29:54.69 after sin they were, they were not in the 00:29:54.86\00:29:59.40 same standing as Adam and Eve would, 00:29:59.63\00:30:02.10 they needed something, 00:30:02.21\00:30:04.48 they needed righteousness. 00:30:05.14\00:30:07.57 They were born bent now; there were something 00:30:07.61\00:30:11.23 in them that was gonna drive them 00:30:11.24\00:30:13.32 in a selfish direction. Sin was going to occur 00:30:13.33\00:30:17.97 in their lives. They needed some help. 00:30:17.98\00:30:20.82 Adam and Eve could not say after sin, 00:30:22.87\00:30:25.21 God we're sorry and from now on we're gonna 00:30:26.18\00:30:28.94 get it right, we'll never sin again. 00:30:28.95\00:30:30.51 And then that that wouldn't help because 00:30:30.52\00:30:33.02 the perfection had been broken. 00:30:33.03\00:30:34.40 They couldn't say, how about if we never think 00:30:35.05\00:30:38.52 another bad thought, never eat another piece 00:30:38.53\00:30:40.18 of food that we shouldn't eat. 00:30:40.19\00:30:41.25 How about if we never talk to another snake? 00:30:41.26\00:30:43.18 Well that work okay. It couldn't, I wonder, 00:30:43.49\00:30:46.93 if you've a broken something. 00:30:46.94\00:30:47.99 I know you have, you broke a vase. 00:30:48.00\00:30:50.28 A vase is like vase, but better. 00:30:50.68\00:30:54.80 You broke a vase and you scurried around 00:30:57.43\00:30:59.28 to get the pieces and you put it back together. 00:30:59.29\00:31:01.11 It wasn't perfect again, was it? 00:31:01.97\00:31:03.64 No, there was a crack or there was something 00:31:04.11\00:31:05.83 missing or if you looked you knew where the 00:31:05.84\00:31:08.39 Super Glue had gone, you could just tell. 00:31:08.40\00:31:11.19 It's floored now, but that's not the best 00:31:11.69\00:31:14.37 example of that. You could say maybe, 00:31:14.38\00:31:17.77 maybe the sin issue that you have is a bit like 00:31:18.23\00:31:20.25 a computer that has a virus. 00:31:20.26\00:31:22.02 You say, well we'll be careful about 00:31:23.12\00:31:24.95 what we run on our computer, 00:31:24.96\00:31:26.15 we'll be careful about what websites we go to, 00:31:26.16\00:31:27.89 we won't open any other, it's any, 00:31:27.90\00:31:29.25 any email attachments that we can't be 00:31:29.26\00:31:31.35 certain about. We'll get it fixed and 00:31:31.36\00:31:34.21 then we'll keep it straight. 00:31:34.22\00:31:35.19 That wouldn't be the best example of this. 00:31:36.23\00:31:37.77 Maybe it's like somebody dying 00:31:39.90\00:31:41.43 and the doctor saying; well if we tries real hard 00:31:41.44\00:31:43.83 maybe he'll be able to drive himself home 00:31:43.84\00:31:46.11 from the mortuary. Now, we're getting close to it. 00:31:46.12\00:31:50.42 See what Adam and Eve sinned the nature 00:31:52.17\00:31:53.72 was fundamentally changed. They now had 00:31:53.73\00:31:57.19 a flaw in nature there was nothing perfect 00:31:57.20\00:32:00.76 about them anymore. You see, they now had 00:32:00.77\00:32:04.51 a problem within, which meant that they needed 00:32:04.52\00:32:08.25 help from above? Amen. Something had to step 00:32:08.26\00:32:13.14 into their life now, instead of righteousness. 00:32:13.15\00:32:15.96 Amen. They were wearing rags. 00:32:15.97\00:32:18.88 That's what happened in the Garden of Eden, 00:32:21.44\00:32:23.20 perfect example. When Adam and Eve find, 00:32:23.59\00:32:26.08 they figured out what they've done, 00:32:26.09\00:32:27.21 they found themselves unclothe not clothed 00:32:27.22\00:32:29.30 anymore, naked. They said we outta do 00:32:29.31\00:32:30.97 something about this, this is embarrassing. 00:32:30.98\00:32:32.70 So, they made themselves some clothing, 00:32:33.00\00:32:34.61 they stitched some fig leaves together 00:32:34.62\00:32:36.50 and God said, no that, that's not gonna do. 00:32:36.51\00:32:40.44 You need something else. You know friend, 00:32:41.58\00:32:46.31 when you wake up to the fact that there's sin 00:32:48.62\00:32:50.33 in your life and you say well I'll, I'll change 00:32:50.34\00:32:53.04 myself from now on. Now, sure there needs 00:32:53.05\00:32:56.59 to be some changes, but your changes cannot 00:32:56.60\00:32:59.15 bring you back into right standing with God, 00:32:59.16\00:33:01.66 cannot do it. When you wake up and you say 00:33:01.67\00:33:05.05 I got to, I got to behave differently, 00:33:05.06\00:33:07.39 talk differently, act differently, 00:33:07.40\00:33:08.66 dress differently. Whatever the case might be 00:33:08.67\00:33:10.67 that might be right, but your changes don't bring 00:33:10.68\00:33:14.40 you back to righteousness in the sight of God. 00:33:14.41\00:33:16.77 It just doesn't work. Adam and Eve's fig 00:33:17.19\00:33:21.16 leaves weren't going to help them one little bit. 00:33:21.17\00:33:24.63 They weren't going to be clothed until 00:33:24.99\00:33:27.70 God clothe them. And He clothe them 00:33:28.15\00:33:32.31 there with skins. Where those skins come from? 00:33:32.32\00:33:37.60 Animals, what happened to those animals 00:33:38.77\00:33:41.70 that enabled them to furnish clothing for 00:33:43.34\00:33:45.42 Adam and Eve? They died and it can not 00:33:45.43\00:33:48.77 have been good, but death of the animal 00:33:48.78\00:33:52.70 was necessary before Adam and Eve could be 00:33:54.04\00:33:58.90 clothed and acceptable in the Sight of God. 00:33:58.91\00:34:02.90 You see what we have to understand today 00:34:04.56\00:34:06.59 is that the death of Jesus is necessary before 00:34:06.60\00:34:12.39 unrighteous sinners can be seen to be righteous 00:34:12.40\00:34:17.91 or acceptable in the Sight of an Holy God. 00:34:17.92\00:34:22.51 Our own righteousness cannot get it there, 00:34:24.13\00:34:26.70 Jeremiah asked a question, 00:34:28.39\00:34:30.02 can an Ethiopian change the color of his skin? 00:34:30.66\00:34:33.38 Can a leopard change his spots? You know, 00:34:34.07\00:34:38.51 the answer to those questions obviously no, 00:34:38.92\00:34:40.96 you are not gonna find a striped, 00:34:40.97\00:34:43.63 a striped leopard. Not gonna do it, 00:34:44.94\00:34:48.72 if I stood before you and said you know, 00:34:49.07\00:34:51.80 really I'm an Ethiopian, but I had surgery 00:34:52.18\00:34:55.42 and now I'm the whitest person in the world. 00:34:56.55\00:35:01.32 I don't know anyone whiter than me. 00:35:01.73\00:35:02.93 I get sunburn in the dark; I had to be careful 00:35:03.41\00:35:07.64 when there is a full moon. Feels that way sometimes, 00:35:07.65\00:35:12.26 if I tell you I once was black and now I'm white. 00:35:14.01\00:35:16.30 You're gonna say, oh! That, that's really funny, 00:35:16.31\00:35:18.56 that's really it would, it would be kind of silly, 00:35:19.02\00:35:20.63 really. It's just not possible. Jesus goes on 00:35:20.64\00:35:24.39 and says through the Prophet Jeremiah. 00:35:24.40\00:35:26.05 Neither can you do good who is accustomed 00:35:26.74\00:35:30.82 to doing evil. Just in the same way these 00:35:30.83\00:35:33.86 other things are impossibilities, 00:35:33.87\00:35:35.56 so you evil person becoming righteous 00:35:36.17\00:35:38.50 person not possible at all. 00:35:38.51\00:35:40.51 It's like when Paul wrote to the Romans 00:35:40.79\00:35:42.82 and he said: There was none that do with 00:35:42.83\00:35:45.34 good no, not one. When my son was this big, 00:35:45.35\00:35:51.09 we were kneeling down to pray one night 00:35:51.10\00:35:52.46 and I don't know, if, if I said this in response 00:35:52.47\00:35:54.70 to him, but I said listen, when you pray 00:35:54.71\00:35:57.06 don't ever pray that Jesus will help you 00:35:58.01\00:36:02.72 to be good. Don't ever pray that, never. 00:36:02.73\00:36:05.85 And from that day to this and I say that 00:36:06.36\00:36:08.88 kindly now, from that day to this I have 00:36:08.89\00:36:11.90 drilled it into my kids never ever pray 00:36:11.91\00:36:15.57 that Jesus will help you to be good, 00:36:15.94\00:36:18.70 don't do it. And you know, why right? 00:36:19.28\00:36:21.33 If my kids pray that prayer long enough 00:36:21.95\00:36:23.67 you know, what they're gonna end up doing? 00:36:23.68\00:36:25.02 They're gonna end up leaving the Church, 00:36:25.03\00:36:26.47 here's why? Because they'll pray, 00:36:26.48\00:36:28.29 dear Jesus help me to be good and then they'll 00:36:28.39\00:36:31.07 run out into the world and they say. 00:36:31.08\00:36:32.32 Wow! That was a failure and the next day 00:36:32.57\00:36:34.81 they're gonna said, Oh! Lord help me to be good 00:36:34.82\00:36:37.09 and, and they're gonna fall again and 00:36:37.39\00:36:38.71 then they say, well the problem is I'm not 00:36:38.72\00:36:40.30 praying hard enough. So, they'll pray for an hour, 00:36:40.31\00:36:42.46 help me to be good, help me to be good 00:36:42.79\00:36:45.17 and then they'll go out into the world 00:36:45.18\00:36:46.52 and crash and burn and then they're gonna say, 00:36:46.53\00:36:49.12 this doesn't work. It doesn't and it doesn't, 00:36:50.45\00:36:53.76 because we read in the Bible there is none 00:36:53.77\00:36:56.41 that does good and, if you are praying that 00:36:56.42\00:36:59.46 God will help you to do good you are praying 00:36:59.47\00:37:01.86 a loosing prayer. It won't happen. 00:37:01.87\00:37:05.54 You're praying an impossibility. 00:37:06.73\00:37:08.65 Jesus hasn't asked us to be good. 00:37:09.03\00:37:11.75 Jesus has asked us to be Holy. Amen. 00:37:12.55\00:37:16.80 When Christ comes into your life, 00:37:16.81\00:37:18.78 He'll make you Holy. And then when Jesus 00:37:18.79\00:37:21.71 lives His life in you, His goodness is gonna be 00:37:21.72\00:37:24.74 manifest in your life. You, you're not gonna 00:37:24.75\00:37:26.83 claim to be good, you might claim to be 00:37:26.84\00:37:28.68 surrendered to the Lord. You might claim to be 00:37:28.69\00:37:31.63 emptied of self and filled with the Spirit 00:37:31.64\00:37:33.90 that's all right, but if you're praying God 00:37:33.91\00:37:36.59 make me good, you are praying in opposition 00:37:36.60\00:37:40.16 to the plainest statements in the Bible. 00:37:40.42\00:37:43.19 Amen. No point praying to be good it won't happen; 00:37:43.64\00:37:47.70 you can pray instead of ask my children to do. 00:37:48.49\00:37:51.28 Pray that Jesus will give you a new heart. Amen. 00:37:51.29\00:37:54.71 Pray that Christ will recreate you in His image; 00:37:54.72\00:37:57.11 pray that Jesus will live His life in you, 00:37:57.52\00:37:59.79 if Jesus is living his life in you, 00:37:59.80\00:38:01.73 you can't be bad, because Christ is living 00:38:01.74\00:38:06.70 His life in you. What we need is Christ? 00:38:06.93\00:38:12.07 What we need is Christ's righteousness? 00:38:12.49\00:38:15.31 Without the righteousness that Jesus gives us 00:38:15.63\00:38:18.96 we are dirty, we are desperate, 00:38:18.97\00:38:21.99 we are decadent and we are dead, 00:38:22.00\00:38:25.27 spiritually dead. And so, now let's consider 00:38:25.59\00:38:29.61 this in the light of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:38:29.62\00:38:31.05 You will recall at one day a diet reform preacher 00:38:31.44\00:38:34.12 wearing an interesting outfit made from 00:38:34.79\00:38:37.44 camel's hair. Looked into the crowd one day 00:38:37.45\00:38:40.26 and he saw somebody that he recognized 00:38:40.27\00:38:41.77 and I don't know that he'd ever seen him 00:38:41.78\00:38:43.31 face-to-face, but you don't have to meet 00:38:43.32\00:38:45.03 Jesus face-to-face to recognize him. 00:38:45.04\00:38:47.48 And he looked into the crowd and he said: 00:38:48.28\00:38:49.72 Behold the Lamb of God who takes away 00:38:49.73\00:38:52.64 the sins of the world. Jesus, He could have 00:38:52.99\00:38:55.72 called them the door; He could have called 00:38:55.73\00:38:57.47 him the way, the truth and the life, 00:38:57.48\00:38:58.78 He could have called them the Amen, 00:38:59.08\00:39:01.16 He could have called them the bread instead 00:39:01.53\00:39:03.43 He said there is the Lamb, the Lamb. 00:39:03.44\00:39:05.85 And He said that in a certain 00:39:06.07\00:39:07.59 sense prophetically. In a certain sense 00:39:07.60\00:39:10.32 prophetically because looking forward Jesus 00:39:10.33\00:39:13.36 the Lamb would die on an old rugged cross. 00:39:13.37\00:39:17.34 He chose his metaphor carefully quoting the 00:39:17.35\00:39:20.52 Prophet Isaiah who said that he was oppressed 00:39:20.53\00:39:22.79 and he was afflicted, yet he didn't even 00:39:22.80\00:39:24.61 open his mouth. He was brought as a Lamb to 00:39:24.62\00:39:28.28 the slaughter and as a sheep before a sheer 00:39:28.29\00:39:30.47 is dumb or mute. So, he openeth not his mouth, 00:39:30.48\00:39:33.88 Isaiah 53 and verse 7. Isaiah said there he, 00:39:33.89\00:39:36.73 that's the one right there. 00:39:36.74\00:39:38.17 The Lamb, they knew what Lambs did? 00:39:38.18\00:39:41.00 Lambs died, they understood, 00:39:41.44\00:39:44.39 Lambs were taken to the temple and their throats 00:39:44.71\00:39:48.23 were slit from ear-to-ear. 00:39:48.24\00:39:50.29 And if you've never seen that, you don't want to, 00:39:50.30\00:39:52.74 it's ugly blood flows out of the open throat 00:39:52.75\00:39:56.40 of a Lamb and gushes forth like a river. 00:39:56.41\00:39:58.75 It's awful, Jesus was described by John Baptist 00:39:58.76\00:40:04.11 as the Lamb and when was saying that 00:40:04.50\00:40:07.72 he was announcing, ladies and gentleman 00:40:07.73\00:40:09.14 I bring to you the true sacrifice, 00:40:09.47\00:40:12.65 the great sacrifice, the one who will pay the 00:40:12.66\00:40:16.41 ultimate price for the sins of the world. 00:40:16.42\00:40:18.22 Writing to the Hebrews the writer said, 00:40:18.28\00:40:20.15 sacrifices couldn't make the people who brought 00:40:20.16\00:40:22.68 them pure, the only thing that could make sinners 00:40:22.69\00:40:25.32 pure would be the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen. 00:40:25.33\00:40:29.74 Jesus the Lamb, come with me to Calvary. 00:40:30.26\00:40:33.43 Calvary is out in an open space not on a hill, 00:40:34.82\00:40:37.53 it's out in an open space. 00:40:37.54\00:40:38.88 Everyday there was a Calvary; 00:40:40.65\00:40:42.16 Israel was camped around the sanctuary 00:40:43.36\00:40:46.58 in this middle place. There was an area 00:40:48.94\00:40:50.94 you had to walk across an open piece of the field 00:40:50.95\00:40:53.72 or ground to get to the sanctuary and inside 00:40:53.73\00:40:58.36 that sanctuary enclosure in the courtyard. 00:40:58.37\00:41:00.48 It was an alter there and there was an alter 00:41:01.71\00:41:04.15 of burnt offering and near that alter animals 00:41:04.16\00:41:08.73 of all kinds not just Lambs, but animals 00:41:08.74\00:41:11.05 were sacrificed and given and offered up 00:41:11.06\00:41:16.13 out in the courtyard. There was an alter 00:41:18.22\00:41:21.00 and we could name that alter Calvary. 00:41:21.01\00:41:24.57 You know, you know what's interesting 00:41:25.16\00:41:26.33 and let me say this, I will probably come back 00:41:26.34\00:41:28.58 to this in a later presentation 00:41:28.59\00:41:30.19 Jesus death on the Cross was pre-figured out 00:41:31.52\00:41:33.84 there in the courtyard that alter, 00:41:33.85\00:41:35.10 isn't that right? Jesus death on the Cross 00:41:35.11\00:41:38.12 was pre-figured out on that alter where the, 00:41:38.47\00:41:41.56 where the animals died right there. 00:41:41.57\00:41:42.92 You know, what was interesting? 00:41:43.94\00:41:44.93 And maybe this is out of context a little bit, 00:41:46.25\00:41:48.16 but I'll say it anyway. Jesus died, 00:41:48.17\00:41:51.47 the Lamb died. Now, what if the sinner had 00:41:51.48\00:41:55.40 come down to the sanctuary, 00:41:55.41\00:41:56.55 killed the Lamb and said, great I'm out of here 00:41:56.90\00:41:59.25 and just left and nothing more happened. 00:41:59.26\00:42:01.82 That sacrifice wouldn't have helped him. 00:42:02.22\00:42:04.01 The Lamb would die, the blood needed to be taken 00:42:05.50\00:42:09.13 inside the sanctuary for the death of the Lamb 00:42:09.46\00:42:13.30 to be worth anything. You know, if you don't 00:42:13.31\00:42:17.01 have a Savior, who's ministering his blood 00:42:17.02\00:42:18.76 for you in heaven's sanctuary then frankly 00:42:18.77\00:42:21.09 you have a worthless Savior. That's the truth, 00:42:21.10\00:42:23.73 Jesus could have died on a thousand crosses, 00:42:24.26\00:42:26.47 yet if He never ministered the blood 00:42:26.80\00:42:28.57 in the sanctuary, the sacrifice on the Cross 00:42:28.58\00:42:30.89 wouldn't be enough. Now, I know I just opened 00:42:31.23\00:42:34.14 myself up there to be really misunderstood, 00:42:34.15\00:42:36.10 but in the sanctuary service the death 00:42:36.93\00:42:39.26 of the Lamb was a sufficient sacrifice, 00:42:39.27\00:42:43.33 but the blood of the Lamb then had to be ministered. 00:42:45.09\00:42:47.48 When Jesus died on the old rugged Cross that 00:42:48.09\00:42:51.65 was a complete and perfect sacrifice, 00:42:51.66\00:42:55.15 but there was blood that still had to be ministered 00:42:55.16\00:42:57.90 in the sanctuary. Jesus died out there on 00:42:57.91\00:43:01.91 the Cross, recognized at the, at the sanctuary 00:43:01.92\00:43:08.27 where the animal died. You see before the sinner 00:43:08.69\00:43:12.66 could get anywhere in the plan of salvation, 00:43:12.67\00:43:15.13 they had to be death. What if there was no Lamb, 00:43:15.14\00:43:18.94 what if there was no animal sacrifice? 00:43:18.95\00:43:20.89 What if God had said, you figure out how 00:43:20.90\00:43:23.74 to make your way into the throne room of God? 00:43:23.75\00:43:25.92 The sinners would have been desperate without 00:43:26.12\00:43:28.95 hope in the world. There would have been 00:43:28.96\00:43:31.38 nothing for them to do and no way for them to go, 00:43:31.39\00:43:34.21 there had to be a Lamb, there had to 00:43:34.22\00:43:39.56 be a sacrifice. We look at the sanctuary 00:43:39.57\00:43:42.67 and its parade, if I can use that word of 00:43:43.00\00:43:45.34 sacrifices and animals and, and blood that 00:43:45.35\00:43:48.25 flowed and sacrifice-after-sacrifice 00:43:48.26\00:43:51.68 without those sacrifices. There was no way at all 00:43:52.06\00:43:56.97 into the presence of Almighty God. 00:43:56.98\00:43:59.12 You couldn't come down to the sanctuary 00:43:59.51\00:44:01.67 and do a deal with the priest and say, 00:44:01.68\00:44:03.18 I've been good this week, I've been giving 00:44:03.19\00:44:07.17 money to the poor; I've been helping little 00:44:08.01\00:44:10.35 old ladies to cross the street, I've been running 00:44:10.36\00:44:12.80 errands for people, I've been volunteering, 00:44:12.81\00:44:15.18 I've been helping out of the 00:44:15.59\00:44:16.59 Church Community Center. The priest would look at 00:44:16.60\00:44:18.76 you like you are not, he would say, 00:44:18.77\00:44:20.51 this is nothing man, where's the Lamb? Amen. 00:44:20.52\00:44:24.37 And when it comes to our relationship with God, 00:44:25.27\00:44:27.15 you can do it all, you can be from the Tribe 00:44:27.16\00:44:30.25 of Benjamin, circumcised on the right day 00:44:30.26\00:44:33.17 of Pharisee, zealous, persecuting the Church 00:44:33.18\00:44:36.77 and God will say, I'm not recommending 00:44:36.78\00:44:39.43 persecuting a Church by the way. 00:44:39.44\00:44:40.76 And God will say, well that's fine, 00:44:40.77\00:44:42.81 where is the Lamb? Where is the Lamb? 00:44:44.04\00:44:46.90 All our goodness amongst are nothing, 00:44:47.54\00:44:50.17 God's question is where's the Lamb? 00:44:50.49\00:44:53.33 Abraham took his Son up to the hillside 00:44:53.66\00:44:55.94 you know, you know, the most amazing thing 00:44:56.22\00:44:57.51 about that story. God speaks to Abraham, 00:44:57.52\00:44:59.78 he says Abraham, I want you take your son 00:44:59.79\00:45:01.89 then God rubs it in there. Take your son, 00:45:01.90\00:45:04.74 your only son, God had the knife stuck 00:45:06.07\00:45:08.75 and then he twisted it, he said whom you love? 00:45:08.76\00:45:11.42 Amen. And Abraham he is gonna ah! 00:45:11.43\00:45:14.17 That hurts, and take him up there and offer him 00:45:14.88\00:45:18.76 as a burnt offering. And so, Abraham takes 00:45:18.77\00:45:22.00 the boy and you think, Abraham is a hero 00:45:22.01\00:45:25.39 for taking the boy. I think the boy is a hero 00:45:25.81\00:45:29.35 for going along with his dad. 00:45:29.70\00:45:30.89 Amen, amen. How old is that kid? 00:45:30.90\00:45:34.33 Sixteen, 17, 18 years old and Dad said, 00:45:34.34\00:45:37.35 boy I have something to explain to you. 00:45:37.72\00:45:40.64 God spoke to me and he said, I have to kill you. 00:45:42.26\00:45:47.55 My recommendation, this is just my recommendation. 00:45:50.99\00:45:53.13 If there are any 16 or 17 year old boys 00:45:54.84\00:45:56.80 and your dad ever says that to you, I would, 00:45:57.65\00:46:00.57 I would seek a second opinion. 00:46:00.58\00:46:02.26 I just, I absolutely would, I would. Isaac says, 00:46:02.97\00:46:08.82 alright, where do I lay? Give me, 00:46:09.37\00:46:12.86 I mean we know the, we know the story. 00:46:12.87\00:46:15.52 Here's the wood and all, but where is the Lamb? 00:46:15.53\00:46:17.68 Isaac said, I'm willing that just knocks me out. 00:46:19.07\00:46:23.39 He said, dad I'm willing for you to go through 00:46:23.84\00:46:25.56 with that. Amen. You know what? 00:46:25.57\00:46:27.57 You know what it says to me? If you want to say 00:46:27.58\00:46:29.45 to this father, it says Abraham must have been 00:46:29.46\00:46:32.68 such a Godly father. Amen. Isaac must have 00:46:32.69\00:46:37.48 known that his dad was the real deal, 00:46:37.49\00:46:40.49 so that when dad said, boy I know this might 00:46:41.33\00:46:44.37 sound strange to you, but God told me. 00:46:44.38\00:46:46.43 The son said, well that makes sense to me 00:46:46.44\00:46:48.08 because I know you and God are mighty close. 00:46:48.09\00:46:49.78 Amen. Unbelievable, here's the wood, 00:46:50.43\00:46:53.25 but where's the Lamb? That's the question 00:46:53.26\00:46:57.37 God says to us where is the Lamb? 00:46:57.38\00:47:00.53 Oh! Friend, where would we be without the Lamb? 00:47:00.54\00:47:03.60 Amen. We'd have nothing, we'd be without hope. 00:47:04.04\00:47:07.35 This life would be miserable, 00:47:07.77\00:47:09.96 if we didn't have the Lamb. Jesus the light, 00:47:10.34\00:47:15.16 I've seen them, I've seen them. 00:47:16.29\00:47:17.52 That little potter, they don't bleed anymore, 00:47:17.53\00:47:21.10 they twitch a little bit and then they bleed 00:47:22.70\00:47:24.42 like mad dead. And Jesus, the Lamb slain 00:47:24.43\00:47:29.96 from the foundation of the world carried the 00:47:30.28\00:47:32.92 wood himself as far as he could before Simon 00:47:32.93\00:47:35.62 was a, was enlisted to help out. God up there, 00:47:35.63\00:47:40.32 at the top of Calvary and he didn't put up 00:47:40.33\00:47:42.41 a fight Bible says, he laid down his life. 00:47:42.42\00:47:46.86 I imagine Jesus laying down on a Cross moving 00:47:46.87\00:47:49.62 His hand over and looking up with the 00:47:49.63\00:47:50.87 Roman soldier with the mallet and 00:47:50.88\00:47:52.86 the nails and say, is this way you'd like my hand? 00:47:52.87\00:47:55.37 Have I got this one in the right place? 00:47:56.63\00:47:58.37 He didn't fight, he submitted, 00:47:58.72\00:48:01.95 he surrendered, he laid down His life. 00:48:01.96\00:48:05.47 Why in the world would Jesus who made the cosmos? 00:48:05.91\00:48:10.05 Jesus who spoke and the Milky Way appeared. 00:48:10.40\00:48:12.99 Did you know there are billions of 00:48:13.31\00:48:15.02 galaxies out there? I can't even get my 00:48:15.03\00:48:16.70 head around there. Our galaxy is 200 million 00:48:16.71\00:48:18.95 light years across, if you travel the 186 thousand 00:48:18.96\00:48:22.03 miles a second for, for 200 million years. 00:48:22.04\00:48:25.29 That's not isn't it? That's just one that 00:48:26.81\00:48:28.83 Jesus made, He made billions. Amen. 00:48:28.84\00:48:32.31 And after He had made billions of galaxies. 00:48:32.32\00:48:35.20 He came down to this tiny little infinitesimally 00:48:35.21\00:48:39.66 small corner of the galaxy 'cause a couple 00:48:39.67\00:48:41.95 of people had sinned, if was me, 00:48:41.96\00:48:43.54 I'd have said, start again. I made them like 00:48:43.83\00:48:47.36 that I can make more, but Jesus said, 00:48:47.37\00:48:51.62 oh! No, no I can't do that, I understand 00:48:51.63\00:48:54.18 they were big issues to take, the honor of God, 00:48:54.19\00:48:56.21 the character of God, Satan making accusations 00:48:56.22\00:48:59.24 about God. God said we'll show everything 00:48:59.25\00:49:01.37 Jesus came to this teeny, tiny place and laid down 00:49:01.76\00:49:06.10 His life, so that you and I might live 00:49:06.11\00:49:08.67 and not die. Amen. Doesn't make sense to me? 00:49:08.68\00:49:13.61 The only way it can make sense is when I read 00:49:14.96\00:49:16.53 the Bible and it says, God so loved the world 00:49:16.54\00:49:19.64 that He gave us only begotten Son 00:49:19.97\00:49:21.47 and I look at Calvary and say, if that's what 00:49:21.83\00:49:23.73 love looks like. Wow! Jesus gave all. 00:49:23.74\00:49:31.45 And out there that alter of burnt offering. 00:49:33.80\00:49:35.64 The sacrifices offered out there signified 00:49:39.02\00:49:41.85 not only Christ's sacrifice primarily, 00:49:42.43\00:49:44.90 but secondarily us. The rabbis used to teach 00:49:45.41\00:49:49.68 that when the sinner brought the Lamb, 00:49:50.39\00:49:52.23 he was in a very real sense bringing himself. 00:49:52.75\00:49:55.45 Amen. And he was giving himself to die. 00:49:55.83\00:49:58.66 You know in figure, so down there when the 00:49:58.67\00:50:03.10 offering was given, this is representative 00:50:03.11\00:50:05.18 of the idea that we give ourselves. 00:50:05.19\00:50:07.87 So, Jesus died how do I, how do I benefit 00:50:09.06\00:50:11.70 from there. You know something when it comes 00:50:11.71\00:50:18.25 to Christianity and I hope I don't come up 00:50:18.26\00:50:20.44 wrong when I say this? You can't really be 00:50:20.45\00:50:23.59 in until you're all in. Amen. That's just 00:50:23.60\00:50:25.83 the truth, isn't that right? Amen. 00:50:25.84\00:50:27.83 You've heard that all saying, it's been said 00:50:27.84\00:50:29.26 a million times Jesus isn't Lord at all until 00:50:29.27\00:50:32.84 he is Lord of all. And that's true isn't it? 00:50:32.85\00:50:35.83 That's absolutely true, that burnt offering. 00:50:36.29\00:50:38.88 Now, what's interesting about the burnt offering, 00:50:38.89\00:50:40.76 it was given willingly, it was a, you don't have 00:50:41.13\00:50:44.11 to bring it, no one said, you have to. 00:50:44.12\00:50:45.92 It was a free will offering if you please. 00:50:46.28\00:50:48.81 And that person brought that, burnt offerings 00:50:50.28\00:50:52.53 were given for about seven different reasons, 00:50:52.58\00:50:54.21 but one reason and I, I want to say a 00:50:54.22\00:50:56.47 primary reason was to show consecration 00:50:56.48\00:50:59.33 and total consecration to God. 00:50:59.34\00:51:00.76 The offering was given and burned up. 00:51:02.14\00:51:06.21 The Hebrew name for that sacrifice was "Olah," 00:51:06.72\00:51:08.94 not as an Olah, but Olah, the word means 00:51:10.78\00:51:14.84 to cause to a sin, the idea of an offering 00:51:14.85\00:51:17.79 that reaches up to God. Now, when the Greeks 00:51:17.80\00:51:20.44 translated, this Olah was translated into Greek. 00:51:21.02\00:51:23.14 The word used was "Holocausta." 00:51:23.15\00:51:26.04 In fact, if you read the do 8 version 00:51:28.15\00:51:29.93 of the Bible or a Jerusalem Bible; 00:51:29.94\00:51:31.39 you'll read for the word burnt offered. 00:51:31.40\00:51:33.03 It would just say holocaust. 00:51:33.04\00:51:34.18 And all into recent history that, that's, 00:51:35.35\00:51:37.49 that's a jarring way to describe this 00:51:37.89\00:51:40.63 burnt offering, all given, all consumed 00:51:40.64\00:51:44.96 totally given. The burnt offerings 00:51:46.80\00:51:49.53 were offered daily, morning and evening. 00:51:49.54\00:51:51.30 God we are consecrating ourselves to You. 00:51:51.68\00:51:54.39 We are giving ourselves to You. 00:51:54.40\00:51:57.87 The burnt offering was given totally; 00:51:59.01\00:52:01.57 the burnt offering was burnt completely. 00:52:01.58\00:52:04.32 This says, when we come to God 00:52:04.67\00:52:06.35 and consecrate ourselves we're, we're not to hold 00:52:06.36\00:52:08.75 something back. Now, listen if you're growing 00:52:08.76\00:52:11.02 in your faith, if you can be honest enough 00:52:11.03\00:52:14.83 to admit you're not a spiritual superman. 00:52:14.84\00:52:16.79 You say, well I'm just the spiritual, 00:52:16.80\00:52:18.54 I'm, I'm just growing that's alright. 00:52:19.35\00:52:21.27 We're not, we're not worrying today about 00:52:22.82\00:52:24.32 where we're not yet, we're thankful that 00:52:24.76\00:52:26.69 where we are because Jesus is growing us 00:52:26.70\00:52:29.34 and guiding us. Can I say it like that? Amen. 00:52:29.35\00:52:31.91 I don't want anybody being discouraged, 00:52:31.92\00:52:33.21 but what God asks is that we give ourselves 00:52:33.22\00:52:35.91 to Him completely, completely. 00:52:35.92\00:52:40.50 Lord take everything that I've got. 00:52:41.28\00:52:44.38 There's no point saying, well Lord I'll give you 00:52:45.33\00:52:47.28 a little and hold back a lot. I'll give you some, 00:52:47.29\00:52:49.71 but I won't give you most. I'll give you most, 00:52:49.72\00:52:51.59 but I won't give you all. God is saying when 00:52:51.60\00:52:55.24 we look into the sanctuary, these offerings 00:52:55.25\00:52:57.94 were given totally. Penitent sinners brought 00:52:57.95\00:53:01.42 their offerings and there were a variety 00:53:01.43\00:53:03.20 of different offerings off course. 00:53:03.21\00:53:04.32 Burnt offerings were totally consumed, 00:53:04.94\00:53:07.95 it's as though we come to God and say, 00:53:07.96\00:53:10.38 Lord consume me totally and completely. 00:53:10.39\00:53:16.11 Which says to me that as a Christian 00:53:17.63\00:53:19.57 and again I've got to be hood carefully 00:53:19.58\00:53:21.93 as you're gonna think that I'm, I'm 00:53:21.94\00:53:23.39 I'm pussyfooting here. Before you worry about 00:53:23.40\00:53:29.84 behavioral issues, can I say that? 00:53:30.39\00:53:32.85 First thing is get your attitude right. 00:53:33.92\00:53:36.10 Amen. Lord take all of me. 00:53:36.11\00:53:38.55 Now, I might not be complete yet. 00:53:39.71\00:53:41.55 There might be difficulty here and a stumbling 00:53:41.56\00:53:44.68 block there and a weakness there, 00:53:44.69\00:53:46.56 but Lord please take all of me and if you take 00:53:46.98\00:53:51.16 all of me, you'll complete all of me and 00:53:51.17\00:53:54.04 with Christ in my life. I will have his 00:53:54.05\00:53:58.91 righteousness and that's gonna be enough 00:53:58.92\00:54:01.25 for you Lord. Amen. The one who came to God 00:54:01.63\00:54:05.63 with a burned offering say, Lord I've got 00:54:05.64\00:54:09.34 to be all yours. And you know, 00:54:09.35\00:54:12.57 you know what I agree, what I don't read 00:54:12.58\00:54:14.45 in the Bible. I don't read about God saying 00:54:14.46\00:54:19.86 to a penitent sinner. I don't, I don't want 00:54:19.87\00:54:22.91 your offering, you're not righteous enough 00:54:22.92\00:54:25.86 for me. Isn't it good to know that you can 00:54:25.87\00:54:29.93 turn up by faith to heaven's sanctuary 00:54:29.94\00:54:31.96 and say I'm here? And know that doesn't 00:54:31.97\00:54:34.56 say oh! Not you're again. God doesn't say 00:54:34.57\00:54:37.89 you're not good enough for me, 00:54:37.90\00:54:39.06 God says you are welcome. Amen. 00:54:39.70\00:54:42.10 I will take your heart. Amen. There is a story 00:54:42.11\00:54:45.51 and it's told and that I think the eight chapter 00:54:45.52\00:54:47.50 of Luke, it come to Jesus they say, 00:54:47.51\00:54:51.20 Lord, there's a centurion here and 00:54:51.21\00:54:53.95 he has a sick servant and he wishes that you 00:54:53.96\00:54:57.27 would go down to his house and heal the servant. 00:54:57.28\00:55:00.67 And we are recommending that you do that 00:55:00.91\00:55:02.75 because after all he's given a whole bunch 00:55:02.76\00:55:04.25 of money to the Church and he helped us build 00:55:04.26\00:55:06.19 the synagogue, they said he is worthy. 00:55:06.20\00:55:09.15 That's his words or their words. 00:55:09.16\00:55:11.29 The centurion sends a message on the other hand. 00:55:14.06\00:55:16.28 He says, Lord, do not come to my house 00:55:16.29\00:55:19.49 for I'm not worthy. What's going on here, 00:55:20.15\00:55:25.66 one group says he's worthy another and 00:55:26.30\00:55:28.17 the man himself says he is not. 00:55:28.18\00:55:29.34 Maybe they don't have their story lined up. 00:55:29.74\00:55:32.11 The man said, I know all you need to do is say 00:55:34.63\00:55:36.66 the word and my servant will be healed. 00:55:36.67\00:55:38.11 Jesus said, now that's faith, I've never seen 00:55:38.12\00:55:39.89 faith like that before that's faith. 00:55:39.90\00:55:41.76 And the brother's servant was healed not because 00:55:43.63\00:55:46.03 of his worthiness because he was right, 00:55:46.04\00:55:49.33 he was unworthy. Do you know what 00:55:49.34\00:55:51.46 I read in a book? A little book called 00:55:51.47\00:55:53.54 Steps to Christ, a powerful book. 00:55:53.55\00:55:55.45 The book said, our great need is itself 00:55:56.12\00:56:00.50 an argument. And please most eloquently 00:56:00.51\00:56:03.01 in our behalf. Amen. You know what says to me, 00:56:03.02\00:56:05.74 if you've got a need and you recognize that 00:56:06.17\00:56:09.06 need and you press that need up against 00:56:09.07\00:56:11.95 God's throne. God will say, yes I will press you, 00:56:11.96\00:56:15.66 yes I will help you, yes I will restore you 00:56:15.98\00:56:19.46 and if you come to God saying Lord as 00:56:19.47\00:56:21.37 unworthy is I am I trust in the worthiness 00:56:21.38\00:56:25.35 of the Lamb. God says, you thank you I will 00:56:25.36\00:56:28.91 take your sin and give you my righteousness. 00:56:28.92\00:56:31.79 Amen. Tonight we're gonna have the 00:56:31.80\00:56:34.51 righteousness of God, tonight? 00:56:34.52\00:56:36.06 Isn't that something? Not as a cloak for sin, 00:56:37.42\00:56:39.90 God will remove our sin and clothe us with 00:56:39.91\00:56:43.20 His own righteousness. Without it there's no 00:56:43.21\00:56:45.45 heaven for us, without it there's no eternal 00:56:45.46\00:56:48.08 life for us, but with it stretching before us 00:56:48.09\00:56:51.94 eternity and all of its blessings and 00:56:51.95\00:56:54.50 the greatest blessing that we might be forever 00:56:54.51\00:56:56.76 in the presence of Almighty God. Amen. 00:56:56.77\00:56:59.41 Let us pray briefly, oh! Father in heaven, 00:56:59.42\00:57:01.46 we thank you that the sanctuary service 00:57:02.91\00:57:04.51 with its sacrifices teaches us, 00:57:04.52\00:57:06.03 our righteousness just won't cut it, 00:57:07.85\00:57:09.81 but we need the righteousness of the Lamb. 00:57:10.57\00:57:12.27 We ask for it yea verily we claim it, 00:57:12.28\00:57:14.85 we believe in it now tonight. 00:57:14.86\00:57:16.27 We thank You that You would give us 00:57:17.24\00:57:18.33 Your righteousness and we pray in Jesus name, amen. 00:57:18.34\00:57:23.55 I'm so glad you joined us, may God richly bless you. 00:57:24.96\00:57:29.12
