Well, now this is a 00:01:09.21\00:01:13.09 series the clean heart series that we're doing and 00:01:13.22\00:01:17.00 this is the last of that series and of course this is 00:01:17.16\00:01:20.03 entitled, Different strokes for different folks, 00:01:20.29\00:01:22.18 we are going to be talking about of course strokes, 00:01:22.62\00:01:23.99 but also heart attacks as well because both are 00:01:24.02\00:01:26.28 somewhat similar to a degree, but it can be very 00:01:26.75\00:01:29.79 crippling and it can last, lets just say before just 00:01:30.08\00:01:32.53 a few seconds. That's a good one. The one on 00:01:32.57\00:01:35.97 stroke, we've done a lot of programs and we have not 00:01:36.13\00:01:38.25 done one specifically in this area of stroke, 00:01:38.35\00:01:40.95 we've talked about cardiovascular health but 00:01:41.06\00:01:42.58 strokes, let's talk about, let's first define what 00:01:43.80\00:01:47.21 exactly is stroke? Okay. If a person is having a 00:01:47.29\00:01:51.39 what define that for us. Let's go to a graphic, 00:01:51.85\00:01:55.51 we have a graphic first of all and let's go to this 00:01:55.59\00:01:57.30 graphic and this is basically what happens 00:01:57.45\00:01:59.40 inside a brain, of course the arrow there is pointing 00:01:59.57\00:02:02.12 where there is a deadness of the brain there because 00:02:02.26\00:02:05.00 the brain is simply is not getting any blood flow so 00:02:05.05\00:02:08.09 there is a deadness there and so there are basically 00:02:08.17\00:02:11.02 two types of strokes. They say really four but 00:02:11.56\00:02:15.45 I kind of crunched it down to about two types of 00:02:15.60\00:02:17.60 strokes. In the next picture we will see those two 00:02:17.76\00:02:21.10 types of strokes; the one on the left is a hemorrhagic 00:02:21.33\00:02:24.99 stroke which is simply a bleeding or blood leaks into 00:02:25.09\00:02:29.09 the brain tissue. Of course, now we talk about high 00:02:29.16\00:02:31.78 blood pressure and of course in the brain with 00:02:31.87\00:02:34.47 this high blood pressure in the brain, it causes tiny 00:02:34.57\00:02:37.99 breaks in the vessel wall and causes bleeding, 00:02:38.14\00:02:40.55 so that's a hemorrhagic, so bleeding right there, 00:02:40.76\00:02:43.11 that's one type of stroke. The other type of stroke on 00:02:43.38\00:02:46.37 the right side is a blood clot or any type of debris 00:02:46.40\00:02:52.82 that will clog the artery and causes a deadness in 00:02:52.85\00:02:56.30 the brain from a blood clot or some type of fat globule 00:02:56.33\00:03:00.01 or debris and therefore that's another type of 00:03:00.08\00:03:02.41 stroke Ischemic Stroke. Now, you have also what 00:03:02.50\00:03:05.88 we call a TIA, transient ischemic strokes and attacks 00:03:06.02\00:03:11.37 I should say, and these are like mini strokes and these 00:03:11.43\00:03:14.64 can happen many times, sometime throughout the 00:03:14.69\00:03:17.40 night and we're not even aware of them, 00:03:17.49\00:03:19.32 it's like miniature earthquake before the big 00:03:19.83\00:03:22.79 one to approach. So, therefore these are some 00:03:22.94\00:03:25.26 of the symptoms that you may have a stroke already, 00:03:25.31\00:03:28.35 you don't even know it, that's why it's very 00:03:28.38\00:03:30.71 encouraging to these programs about the a 00:03:31.14\00:03:34.85 clean heart series, blood pressure, cholesterol, 00:03:34.96\00:03:39.52 know your plaque, all of these can lead to a stroke 00:03:39.95\00:03:42.66 or even a heart attack as well so those are two basic 00:03:42.89\00:03:45.55 types of strokes the hemorrhage or the bleeding 00:03:46.29\00:03:48.15 and also the blood clot. What should a person do if 00:03:48.45\00:03:51.45 they are suspecting that they are about to have a 00:03:51.56\00:03:54.75 stroke? What they do? There are different things you 00:03:54.95\00:03:58.35 can do, now again let's keep in mind folks every 00:03:58.43\00:04:01.62 40 seconds someone has a stroke, every 40 seconds. 00:04:02.11\00:04:07.38 Okay. Alright, and so with that in mind an every 00:04:07.41\00:04:11.59 minute about 32000 brain cells die, brain cells unlike 00:04:12.17\00:04:17.84 other cells do not regenerate, if you just 00:04:18.11\00:04:21.16 lose those cells they don't come back, so that can be a 00:04:21.37\00:04:24.25 life long debility as far as when a stroke is concerned, 00:04:24.53\00:04:28.81 now what to do? The best acronym we can use is the 00:04:29.04\00:04:33.15 acronym fast. Okay, you said the word fast. 00:04:33.18\00:04:37.36 Now, we're not talking about not eating food. 00:04:38.18\00:04:40.26 No, no I was thinking about stiffness. You have to be 00:04:40.82\00:04:45.90 fast, and doing certain things, that's true. Okay, 00:04:46.27\00:04:49.70 okay explain that to us then. Okay well, FAST, 00:04:49.92\00:04:52.06 alright. F stands for Facial. Ask the person 00:04:52.44\00:04:56.33 to smile. If a person is having a stroke that's one 00:04:56.77\00:04:59.87 thing that they are going to have a difficult time 00:05:00.04\00:05:01.63 in doing is to so facial F smile, the second one is 00:05:01.74\00:05:07.21 A for arm, have the patient to raise both arms up in 00:05:07.36\00:05:13.42 the air again, a stroke going on then they won't 00:05:13.45\00:05:18.04 be able to do both arms at the same time because 00:05:18.12\00:05:21.49 usually they're going to be one side of the body or 00:05:21.55\00:05:22.92 the other, alright. Okay. The third acronym is S. 00:05:22.95\00:05:26.65 You ask the person to say a simple speech, 00:05:28.26\00:05:31.91 one sentence if a person is having a stroke, 00:05:32.80\00:05:35.68 they would not be able to do that easily. Alright, 00:05:36.11\00:05:39.24 the last one T, time. You need to call 911, the key 00:05:39.87\00:05:47.03 is that you want to get a person to the hospital 00:05:47.13\00:05:49.55 inside three hours, after the three hour window 00:05:50.08\00:05:54.76 then it's going to be very unlikely a person is going 00:05:55.29\00:05:58.16 to even recover or have any sense of wellness 00:05:58.20\00:06:03.01 or lifestyle after that three hours if did not 00:06:03.09\00:06:05.49 treated properly, because once you get to the hospital 00:06:05.59\00:06:08.04 give them some medication to avoid that. So, a three 00:06:08.22\00:06:11.66 hour window is very necessary, so the last one 00:06:11.84\00:06:14.32 is T for time, a call to 911, so therefore with that 00:06:14.35\00:06:17.91 in mind FAST. One thing about this, there are a lot 00:06:18.05\00:06:20.68 of people honey may experience a stroke and 00:06:20.71\00:06:24.40 may think that its not really ordeal and they may 00:06:24.51\00:06:28.25 go about their daily duties you know one 00:06:28.30\00:06:30.20 person who a movie star had a stroke and bumped 00:06:30.50\00:06:34.31 their head, was bleeding, they thought they felt okay 00:06:34.38\00:06:38.37 and that evening realized it was actually stroke 00:06:38.85\00:06:41.13 bleeding the brain, hemorrhagic that we just 00:06:41.17\00:06:42.96 talked about and saw it on the screen. Okay. 00:06:43.08\00:06:45.18 And that person actually died I think a couple of 00:06:45.24\00:06:47.45 days later, so when in doubt just go through that 00:06:47.62\00:06:50.63 acronym FAST. Okay, okay, okay, let me see if I 00:06:50.78\00:06:54.00 got it. F facial. Facial, ask the person to smile. 00:06:54.26\00:06:57.88 Smile, okay, A. Raise both arms up in the air. 00:06:57.91\00:07:02.97 S is for a simple sentence, okay, speech sentence. 00:07:03.96\00:07:08.56 And then lastly T, T, time. Time is factor, 00:07:08.59\00:07:12.39 every second 32, as I mean every second 32000 brain 00:07:12.79\00:07:17.84 cells die and unlike other cells of our body brain 00:07:18.20\00:07:21.89 cells die and unlike other cells of our body brain 00:07:22.12\00:07:23.49 cells do not regenerate. So, time is critical, okay, 00:07:23.52\00:07:27.28 in doing this FAST acronym. This is, this is really 00:07:27.43\00:07:31.85 good information I know it and I hope you're writing 00:07:31.88\00:07:33.60 this down because, think about it many people have 00:07:33.63\00:07:36.64 strokes and there is a time line in which they 00:07:36.80\00:07:40.39 could get help, that's true, and so this kind of a 00:07:40.53\00:07:42.98 program knowing the words FAST and also what's 00:07:43.11\00:07:47.28 going on or you just doing them, doing the different 00:07:47.31\00:07:49.40 things you are saying can really help them to survive. 00:07:49.48\00:07:53.05 Yeah, and you don't have to be you know in the 60s 00:07:53.08\00:07:55.76 and 70s, you know so one of the camera crew said 00:07:55.79\00:07:58.37 just a minute ago know someone who has a stroke 00:07:58.47\00:08:01.47 and mini-strokes in their 20s you know even a heart 00:08:01.59\00:08:04.72 attack, remember I was working for a hospital for 00:08:04.75\00:08:08.19 several years and at that time when I was there the 00:08:08.24\00:08:12.29 youngest person who had a coronary bypass was 18 00:08:12.39\00:08:16.27 years of age. So, again maybe due to diet, 00:08:16.30\00:08:20.25 lifestyle, blood pressure is untreated, so all these 00:08:20.36\00:08:24.57 things can add to a stroke or likelihood of a stroke. 00:08:24.72\00:08:26.62 Well, I know that for a longtime whenever any 00:08:27.35\00:08:30.84 kind of research was done it was always done 00:08:30.98\00:08:32.35 it was always done basically on men and now 00:08:32.38\00:08:35.71 they've discovered or with in sometime now they've 00:08:35.74\00:08:38.65 discovered that women do not have heart attacks like 00:08:38.88\00:08:42.62 men do, they don't have a stroke like a man does 00:08:42.82\00:08:44.58 and so how are they similar and then how are they 00:08:44.61\00:08:47.92 different as far as a male, female having a stroke? 00:08:48.57\00:08:52.61 You're very pretty, I just realized, just looking at 00:08:54.72\00:08:57.72 you, very lovely to look at. Okay, what was your 00:08:57.80\00:09:01.84 question again, I just kind of lost my train of thought 00:09:02.02\00:09:04.71 oh yeah, how are they similar and how they are 00:09:05.18\00:09:06.62 different. In male and female, okay, how are they 00:09:06.77\00:09:09.02 different when it comes to them having a stroke? 00:09:09.06\00:09:11.08 Do you have that now? I kind of lost. Are you 00:09:11.35\00:09:13.79 ready? I am ready now. Okay let's, because the 00:09:13.82\00:09:16.10 program is entitled different strokes for 00:09:16.20\00:09:19.29 different folks. So, I definitely need to take 00:09:19.55\00:09:21.43 care of that question you right there. Yes, yes. 00:09:21.56\00:09:23.30 There are some similarities, and the similarities is 00:09:23.70\00:09:25.81 in your book, the difference is that for one thing 00:09:25.87\00:09:29.81 is women having strokes, they sometime have 00:09:29.84\00:09:33.68 hiccups, a man doesn't do that usually, also they have 00:09:33.81\00:09:38.03 chest pain, we are talking about strokes, not heart 00:09:38.18\00:09:40.04 attacks but strokes, chest pains, also nausea and a 00:09:40.07\00:09:46.50 rapid heartbeat. So those are some differences 00:09:46.76\00:09:50.27 that women have that men normally don't have 00:09:50.36\00:09:53.07 when it comes to a stroke alright. So, we need to 00:09:53.17\00:09:55.94 be mindful of that because a lot of times people may 00:09:56.01\00:09:58.75 be having these symptoms, if they are having hiccups are 00:09:58.78\00:10:02.46 let's say nausea we may not necessarily think that 00:10:03.31\00:10:07.02 person is experiencing a stroke that may be a woman 00:10:07.19\00:10:11.08 having those symptoms that a man normally doesn't 00:10:11.39\00:10:13.88 have so it's very critical to understand the 00:10:14.09\00:10:16.63 differences of that. That still means that once again 00:10:16.84\00:10:19.91 male or female they're both individuals need to 00:10:20.31\00:10:22.72 practice that word FAST. That's right. And what is it 00:10:23.18\00:10:27.72 again honey, just for review. Okay Facial. Facial. 00:10:27.81\00:10:30.15 Raise those arms. Both arms. Speech. Speech, 00:10:30.23\00:10:33.62 a complete sentence. Okay. And then call to 911. 00:10:33.83\00:10:36.60 Time. Yeah I like that word, Time but I wanted to say 00:10:36.93\00:10:40.38 911. 911. Call 911. Okay now the other question is 00:10:40.56\00:10:45.42 a lot of times we talk about strokes, they are 00:10:45.45\00:10:47.56 also talking about blood thinners, thickening of the 00:10:47.59\00:10:50.15 blood is one of the things that actually causes that 00:10:50.23\00:10:53.17 problem you talked about that before as well. 00:10:53.37\00:10:55.01 So, let's talk about blood thinners. Yeah, a lot 00:10:55.27\00:10:58.56 of people who want to reduce their risk of stroke 00:10:58.59\00:11:01.02 will take a medication particularly anticoagulant 00:11:01.14\00:11:04.55 drugs, the number one anticoagulant drug that 00:11:04.78\00:11:08.05 reduce blood clot is Coumadin and but with that 00:11:08.18\00:11:12.29 in mind because you know all of the drugs have their 00:11:12.32\00:11:14.96 side effects, some have more than others. Coumadin 00:11:15.04\00:11:18.48 of course has this as well, there has just been a recent 00:11:18.65\00:11:21.72 recall well as of the day of this taping just last month 00:11:21.96\00:11:26.06 of Coumadin being recalled by the food and drug 00:11:26.67\00:11:30.45 administration. Yeah. 144,000 tablets that's been 00:11:30.59\00:11:34.80 already ministered to hospitals and physicians 00:11:35.03\00:11:37.44 samples, they recalled that because they discovered 00:11:37.61\00:11:40.00 that ingredient in Coumadin is very unstable. 00:11:40.03\00:11:43.72 Mercy. So, with that in mind, since it's unstable it 00:11:44.00\00:11:47.65 may not work as effectively, therefore you may not 00:11:47.68\00:11:51.28 have that blooding clotting capacity or it may work 00:11:51.31\00:11:54.67 more than that what it should, so it may tend to 00:11:55.05\00:11:57.80 thin the blood out, so you may have excessive 00:11:57.99\00:11:59.83 bleeding and so with that in mind they had to pull 00:11:59.96\00:12:02.64 that as of just recently but you know when you go 00:12:02.70\00:12:06.78 to the plant kingdom, there are some ingredients in 00:12:07.00\00:12:09.76 the plant kingdom that has what we call coumarin, 00:12:09.81\00:12:14.77 which they get the name Coumadin, in the plant 00:12:15.86\00:12:19.58 kingdom now these are not anticoagulant but they 00:12:19.72\00:12:22.16 help to move the blood through the blood vessels, 00:12:22.26\00:12:25.71 coumarin and there are foods in that category are 00:12:26.39\00:12:30.18 such as carrot your celery your parsnip and you 00:12:30.25\00:12:34.85 parsley. Those are plant chemicals coumarin, 00:12:34.97\00:12:39.39 that has those properties so therefore and that's how 00:12:39.54\00:12:42.48 the drug has had its name Coumadin. So, God has 00:12:42.58\00:12:45.33 things in nature now again need to remind people this 00:12:45.46\00:12:48.68 is not a anticoagulant this can not be taken in place of 00:12:48.71\00:12:52.79 the drug because it doesn't do the something but at 00:12:53.20\00:12:55.49 least it does help to move the blood along to reduce 00:12:55.52\00:12:58.76 the risk of a stroke, alright. I was thinking 00:12:58.92\00:13:01.81 about when you just said that also, an herb coumarin. 00:13:01.93\00:13:06.02 Its an coumarin actually an herb as well, it's 00:13:06.98\00:13:09.35 spice. Oh, you mean cumin. Cumin, yeah, a cumin. 00:13:09.41\00:13:13.69 I said coumarin, I meant cumin. Yeah cumin, yeah. 00:13:13.90\00:13:16.64 I meant cumin. But that's is a herb, that's true though. 00:13:16.69\00:13:21.57 It's definitely an herd and surprisingly it's going 00:13:21.60\00:13:24.65 to be a part of our recipe today as well. Oh Okay. 00:13:24.69\00:13:27.56 Risk factors. Okay, there are some risk factors that 00:13:28.36\00:13:31.95 are involved and of course some testing had to be 00:13:32.40\00:13:34.43 done with that as well. You are talking about 00:13:34.64\00:13:36.30 coumarin now, blood thinner, I mean you're saying 00:13:36.66\00:13:40.17 the risk factors, where are we gone with. Well, risk 00:13:40.27\00:13:42.93 factors as far as stroke. Okay. Yeah, and there are 00:13:43.07\00:13:46.01 some risk factors as far as that's concerned of course 00:13:46.24\00:13:48.25 smoking. If a person is a smoker, they going to have 00:13:48.37\00:13:51.22 as two to six times increased rate of having 00:13:51.25\00:13:55.34 a stroke, a smoker, Alright. Obesity, overweight you 00:13:55.53\00:13:59.74 will have an increased risk of a stroke, 00:13:59.89\00:14:01.74 inactivity, increased risk of a stroke, high blood 00:14:03.07\00:14:08.04 pressure, diabetes, an increased risk of a stroke, 00:14:08.18\00:14:12.58 so all those are increased risks and so therefore with 00:14:13.06\00:14:16.29 that in mind since we've done the a clean heart 00:14:16.34\00:14:19.89 series we talk about blood pressure, we talk about 00:14:19.95\00:14:21.79 cholesterol, we have done a winning weight series, 00:14:21.90\00:14:24.90 talk about weight management as well, 00:14:25.77\00:14:27.48 we are going to do a diabetes series in a next 00:14:27.96\00:14:30.38 few weeks, so we are going to try to cover these 00:14:30.43\00:14:32.21 things to because everything kind of links 00:14:32.36\00:14:34.40 with one and another alright if you reduce 00:14:34.45\00:14:36.83 weight, you also reduce your cholesterol if weight 00:14:37.06\00:14:40.22 comes down you reduce your blood pressure, 00:14:40.35\00:14:42.39 if weight comes down you reduce the risk of strokes 00:14:42.77\00:14:45.05 and heart attacks. So, everything kind of lines up 00:14:45.15\00:14:47.39 with one and another, but another thing we can do is, 00:14:47.58\00:14:50.88 I wanted to make sure that this one vessel or one 00:14:51.22\00:14:55.53 artery that needs to be checked, that will also create 00:14:55.67\00:15:00.69 a stoke and lets go to our last graphic, let's look 00:15:00.84\00:15:04.17 at this artery this is called the Carotid artery, 00:15:04.32\00:15:07.98 this is in the side of the neck. Now, we've done a lot 00:15:08.37\00:15:11.33 of these surgeries carotid endarterectomy in a hospital 00:15:11.41\00:15:15.58 where we open up the neck and open up the artery 00:15:15.61\00:15:18.37 itself and then we take it down you see there the 00:15:18.51\00:15:22.69 plaque is usually housed right in that V where the 00:15:22.77\00:15:27.23 artery device internal and external artery there. 00:15:27.26\00:15:31.44 And so with that in mind that's what a plaque is and 00:15:31.87\00:15:34.52 so therefore we want to have a carotid ultrasound to 00:15:34.71\00:15:37.79 see what out this any plaque in the Carotid 00:15:37.90\00:15:40.83 artery, because 20 percent of blood flow goes through 00:15:41.02\00:15:45.02 that artery, every time the heart beats, so with that 00:15:45.05\00:15:47.99 in mind you want to have that, now you have 00:15:48.02\00:15:49.62 something as visual as well and we talked about 00:15:49.72\00:15:52.13 plaque in the last program and let's hold that up honey 00:15:52.25\00:15:54.82 as far as the plaque build up in a artery wall. 00:15:55.52\00:15:57.22 We know so much of the your graphic, you've got to 00:15:57.36\00:15:59.55 finish showing, this is how the artery is supposed to 00:15:59.58\00:16:02.28 look nice and clean. Okay. Okay, alright. 00:16:02.35\00:16:04.26 Now, when that plaque begins to build up it just 00:16:04.45\00:16:06.19 a small amount but its actually building up and 00:16:06.27\00:16:08.09 therefore the blood can not get through as good as 00:16:08.12\00:16:11.77 it could if it was just clear. Okay. Alright, 00:16:11.85\00:16:13.78 now as that plaque begins to build it even more you 00:16:14.09\00:16:16.89 can see now where the blood having even a harder 00:16:16.92\00:16:18.83 time trying to get through and then eventually that 00:16:18.95\00:16:22.49 plaque will built to a point where just a pin hole. 00:16:22.63\00:16:25.24 About 90 percent blockage there. Now, the blood can 00:16:25.27\00:16:27.40 not get through there all, now anything above the 00:16:27.43\00:16:30.65 neck stroke, below the neck a heart attack, 00:16:30.78\00:16:33.87 so you want to keep these vessels, the vessels clean. 00:16:34.48\00:16:36.94 Yes. As much as possible and once again as you 00:16:37.48\00:16:39.90 mentioned earlier, weight control, the whole eight 00:16:39.93\00:16:43.80 natural laws, right, right, exactly once again. 00:16:43.83\00:16:45.39 Eight natural law, we talk about this all the time, 00:16:45.48\00:16:47.25 the eight natural laws is the way to go, the eight 00:16:47.39\00:16:49.64 natural doctors taking care of ourselves, get to bed on 00:16:49.67\00:16:53.04 time and exercising, eating right, the Plant-Based Diet 00:16:53.08\00:16:57.16 all these things are part of being able to prevent, 00:16:57.54\00:17:01.34 prevent, hopefully prevent I say hopefully because 00:17:02.15\00:17:04.41 there could be some other things genetic 00:17:04.44\00:17:06.06 included but basically we have found that as we do 00:17:06.87\00:17:09.49 those we will be okay.
