Well, Arthur, now most people 00:01:38.78\00:01:40.63 already know that Arthur is arthritis, 00:01:40.77\00:01:43.59 particularly osteoarthritis. Now I 00:01:44.59\00:01:48.11 have to say this, I'm not making this out folks, 00:01:48.14\00:01:50.36 I used to work at a Seniors Apartment 00:01:50.53\00:01:53.89 Complex, I was the desk clerk at the time 00:01:54.09\00:01:57.22 and I noticed that a lot of ladies that come 00:01:57.84\00:01:59.67 downstairs and they talked amongst 00:01:59.87\00:02:01.24 themselves, I was at the desk there 00:02:01.34\00:02:02.71 I was listening in on them and invariably sometimes they 00:02:02.74\00:02:07.68 will say you know Arthur he visit me last 00:02:07.71\00:02:09.19 night and he stayed with me for long time and 00:02:09.31\00:02:12.40 so okay I'm just listening to this and the other lady 00:02:13.14\00:02:15.68 say well, he was with me the day before 00:02:15.85\00:02:18.50 you know. I said to myself this Arthur 00:02:18.76\00:02:21.25 he really is getting around and he's like a 00:02:21.41\00:02:22.88 lady's man. Then it dawned on me, they were 00:02:23.15\00:02:25.39 talking about arthritis. That's right. But, it 00:02:25.43\00:02:27.11 took a while for me to catch on what they 00:02:27.40\00:02:28.78 were talking about. So, we are talking about 00:02:28.85\00:02:31.03 arthritis, so Arthur, that's the nickname that 00:02:31.21\00:02:34.04 has been used for this disease. Well, so many 00:02:34.18\00:02:37.38 people suffering with we call it like you said 00:02:37.41\00:02:39.91 joint venture with Arthur and I remember 00:02:40.04\00:02:42.32 that we've done a couple of programs, 00:02:42.44\00:02:43.81 that's right, we did a program as a matter of 00:02:43.84\00:02:45.34 fact Curtis's mother is over the senior, Ministry 00:02:45.58\00:02:49.17 Department, Ministries in our church at First 00:02:49.20\00:02:51.21 Church and once a month she has some 00:02:51.38\00:02:53.95 particular program that she is actually doing in. 00:02:54.06\00:02:55.94 She calls Curtis and I in quite often, a little 00:02:56.14\00:02:58.30 nepotism is going on and has us come and do some 00:02:58.64\00:03:01.37 programming, that's right, and one of the 00:03:01.57\00:03:03.18 the highly requested programs was arthritis. 00:03:03.69\00:03:06.96 That's right. Joint Venture. People complaining, 00:03:07.44\00:03:09.59 and you know at first you are wondering was 00:03:09.87\00:03:11.84 a lot of people going to come to this program 00:03:11.87\00:03:13.49 I cannot begin to tell you there was standing 00:03:13.76\00:03:16.59 room only of the people. They came in the 00:03:16.92\00:03:18.91 wheelchairs. Yes, they did. They came in with 00:03:19.13\00:03:20.86 the walkers. That's right. People are really 00:03:20.89\00:03:22.98 hurting in trying to figure out how to get 00:03:23.27\00:03:25.34 around, especially when they can't get around 00:03:25.60\00:03:27.25 and they used to. We had over 60 people 00:03:27.40\00:03:29.50 attending that at First Church at Huntsville, 00:03:29.71\00:03:32.74 Alabama. That's right. Yeah, for that some up. 00:03:32.99\00:03:34.48 And that was not enough, if that was not 00:03:34.51\00:03:35.88 enough, we at the Camp Meeting our Camp 00:03:35.93\00:03:38.66 Meeting comes around at June time frame South 00:03:38.83\00:03:40.99 Central Conference Camp Meeting and believe 00:03:41.33\00:03:42.70 it or not we did the same program at the Camp 00:03:42.73\00:03:45.24 Meeting. It was over a 180 people. That showed 00:03:45.46\00:03:48.81 up at that particular program. So, it's amazing 00:03:48.84\00:03:51.75 how many people are actually suffering and 00:03:51.89\00:03:54.01 going through a lot of stuff with their joints, 00:03:54.20\00:03:55.80 the arthritis, osteoarthritis and like 00:03:56.67\00:03:59.69 and so this is a good program. Yes, it is. 00:03:59.72\00:04:02.18 And you know, we did not 00:04:02.22\00:04:03.59 even plan on doing that program at Camp 00:04:03.62\00:04:05.26 Meeting arthritis. No, no. We had a whole set of 00:04:05.39\00:04:07.61 programs already preplanned and asked a show 00:04:07.76\00:04:10.77 up hands, how many is interested in this topic 00:04:10.80\00:04:13.35 or that topic when I said arthritis, a whole lot 00:04:13.48\00:04:15.66 of hands raised up, yes yeah, and so okay honey, 00:04:15.91\00:04:17.28 well this, we will be doing this program 00:04:17.72\00:04:19.09 tomorrow so, yeah, yeah, very well received 00:04:19.12\00:04:20.82 though but yes. How serious is Osteoarthritis? 00:04:20.86\00:04:25.06 It is very, very serious. And I used to work at 00:04:25.48\00:04:29.15 the Huntsville Hospital for about 10 years, 8 00:04:29.45\00:04:32.37 years in the area of surgery, and invariably 00:04:32.51\00:04:36.20 in Neurosurgery, brain, and spinal cord, 00:04:36.50\00:04:37.94 but some of the surgical procedures I assisted 00:04:38.52\00:04:40.90 was Ortho, orthopedics, we called it Ortho and 00:04:40.95\00:04:45.08 of course with that we did a whole lot of total 00:04:45.11\00:04:47.38 hip replacement and total knee replacement 00:04:47.53\00:04:51.53 and with that I can see people, I look on the chart 00:04:52.50\00:04:55.27 their X ray and I can see why they really having 00:04:55.33\00:04:58.98 excruciating pain because I'm looking at the 00:04:59.35\00:05:01.25 X ray, the joints, and it's like bone against 00:05:01.34\00:05:03.84 bone. So, it's very cripply. It's the number 00:05:03.97\00:05:06.23 one cause of disability and joint pain, also one 00:05:06.26\00:05:10.41 out of five people experience some form of 00:05:10.61\00:05:13.89 arthritis. Now they are many different forms of 00:05:14.12\00:05:16.15 arthritis, okay, but one in five some form of 00:05:16.34\00:05:18.96 arthritis as well and so it can be very crippling 00:05:19.14\00:05:22.46 to the American population. It causes 00:05:22.80\00:05:24.17 excruciating pain as well. Now if you are over 00:05:24.37\00:05:26.80 50, 80 percent of the people experience a form 00:05:26.97\00:05:30.74 of arthritis. Okay. So, therefore with that in 00:05:30.77\00:05:33.30 mind we can be very crippling. Now what 00:05:33.49\00:05:35.97 we're gonna to do is we're going to zero in on 00:05:36.00\00:05:39.42 not the total hip okay but the total knee because 00:05:39.89\00:05:44.15 in surgery they are about maybe 260,000 00:05:44.24\00:05:47.93 total hip replacements in this country, 260,000. 00:05:48.54\00:05:52.57 Total knee is 600,000. So, with that in mind we 00:05:54.07\00:05:58.08 gonna to focus in on the knee not the hip 00:05:58.11\00:06:01.36 although what applies to the knee is applicable 00:06:01.50\00:06:04.10 to the hip as well. Well, what do we have, 00:06:04.35\00:06:06.67 why don't you talk about the knee itself. 00:06:06.90\00:06:08.70 Do you have anatomy of the actual knee itself, 00:06:09.82\00:06:12.50 so we can see where we are going with this 00:06:12.59\00:06:13.96 program as far as that's related? You are 00:06:14.54\00:06:17.74 so beautiful I just lost my train of thought. 00:06:17.91\00:06:19.93 Oh, yes. We do have an anatomy of the knee. 00:06:20.18\00:06:21.66 Yeah, I just lost my train of thought. I'm 00:06:21.80\00:06:23.17 refocused now. Yes, we do and okay, now to 00:06:23.26\00:06:26.27 understand arthritis you must look at anatomy of 00:06:26.38\00:06:28.78 physiology and with that in mind let's go to 00:06:29.00\00:06:31.58 our first graphic at this time. Okay, now we 00:06:31.67\00:06:36.42 have of course the top one is called the a femur 00:06:36.60\00:06:39.72 or the thigh bone, the bottom bone is of course 00:06:40.01\00:06:43.31 the shin bone or tibia and of course the patella 00:06:43.63\00:06:45.72 or knee bone, a knee cap I should say. At the 00:06:45.90\00:06:48.62 end of these bones, we have what we call the 00:06:48.65\00:06:51.63 articular cartilage. I called these our shock 00:06:51.94\00:06:56.85 absorbers. So, when we walk, the creator God 00:06:56.88\00:07:00.52 put these built in shocked absorbers. Therefore, 00:07:00.81\00:07:04.46 when we walk, you can have that shock 00:07:04.49\00:07:06.51 absorber and therefore we can walk and nice 00:07:06.82\00:07:09.58 fashion there. As well now keep this in mind, 00:07:09.71\00:07:12.49 when these are worn down these Articular 00:07:12.70\00:07:14.89 Cartilage, when they are worn down they have 00:07:15.09\00:07:18.50 virtually no blood supply. Therefore, it's going 00:07:18.71\00:07:21.56 to be very difficult for having this shock, 00:07:21.59\00:07:24.17 cartilage or the shock absorbers I have to say 00:07:25.04\00:07:27.36 to rebuild themselves. They are limited. So, 00:07:27.39\00:07:30.76 again now this very important to understand 00:07:30.79\00:07:32.55 the anatomy of the knee and also the cartilage 00:07:32.58\00:07:35.71 that's attached of the end of these bones as 00:07:36.01\00:07:38.10 well to give us that motion that when we 00:07:38.22\00:07:40.54 move, we can move freely and easily. So, they 00:07:40.73\00:07:43.95 are very important. Articular cartilage is key 00:07:43.98\00:07:47.82 in healthy knees and also healthy hip as well. 00:07:48.35\00:07:51.39 Well, I know that Mary is calling in and she is 00:07:51.81\00:07:54.29 asking the question and that is what exactly 00:07:54.47\00:07:57.58 tears that cartilage down? Well, now there is a 00:07:57.79\00:08:01.57 lot of things that can tear the cartilage down, 00:08:01.60\00:08:04.10 thereby of course bone against bone. Yeah. 00:08:04.66\00:08:06.72 Number one, first of all we need to understand 00:08:07.59\00:08:09.89 what makes up cartilage. When we determine 00:08:10.03\00:08:13.59 what makes up the cartilage we have to 00:08:13.63\00:08:15.00 understand, what's one of the causes of turning 00:08:15.16\00:08:17.76 them down? Well, a cartilage is about to 65 00:08:17.79\00:08:20.59 to 85 percent water. Thereby, if one has, is not 00:08:20.62\00:08:28.03 hydrated enough, not taking enough water, 00:08:28.49\00:08:31.87 the wear and a tear of the cartilage is more 00:08:32.66\00:08:35.55 rapid because there is no water there in the joint. 00:08:35.64\00:08:38.42 But, now if a person is more hydrated there is 00:08:39.11\00:08:41.37 water there, then the wear and tear is very 00:08:41.53\00:08:44.18 slow. Therefore, it doesn't wear down as 00:08:44.48\00:08:47.15 fast. So, water is very critical. So, folks if you 00:08:47.64\00:08:51.41 listen to this program, if you want to keep the 00:08:51.67\00:08:54.11 cartilage healthy and that wearing down is 00:08:54.39\00:08:57.65 very slow; adequate amount of water is 00:08:57.94\00:09:01.54 critical because cartilage is 65 to 85 percent 00:09:01.78\00:09:06.07 water. So, actually it's key point right there. 00:09:06.65\00:09:08.90 Now how much that we need and how do you're 00:09:09.28\00:09:11.31 taking your water? Now let's talk about that for 00:09:11.51\00:09:13.20 a moment. Well, you know it's amazing because 00:09:13.23\00:09:14.80 when we were having that program one of the 00:09:14.96\00:09:16.76 things that we asked those who were having a 00:09:16.86\00:09:18.84 problem with their joints was do you drink 00:09:19.08\00:09:22.14 water? Number one question? The first 00:09:22.62\00:09:24.61 question and you know what the majority of 00:09:24.72\00:09:27.00 them said no. The whole thing as we talked about 00:09:27.03\00:09:31.62 before no matter what disease it is, they got to 00:09:31.85\00:09:34.48 get that water in, that's true, because the water 00:09:34.59\00:09:35.96 goes all throughout the body, that's true. So, 00:09:36.13\00:09:37.50 once again we are saying again to use 6 to 8 oz 00:09:37.64\00:09:40.72 glasses of water a day. Now, it's all kind of 00:09:41.01\00:09:44.40 ways you can drink water. A lot of times 00:09:44.61\00:09:46.36 people, just sometimes, fill of a half a gallon of 00:09:46.42\00:09:48.66 jug and do it that way. One of ways I have 00:09:48.71\00:09:50.77 found, the best way to get my water in is that I 00:09:50.84\00:09:52.94 have a container that was 32 ounces, that's 00:09:53.08\00:09:54.96 true and that holds 4 cups of water. So, I filled 00:09:55.05\00:09:57.58 it up in the morning and then I drink that four, 00:09:57.61\00:10:00.05 you know, I just like drink it, drink it down like 00:10:00.23\00:10:02.42 a large amount of that. Okay. And then I filled 00:10:02.45\00:10:04.33 it up a second time and that way I know that 00:10:04.36\00:10:05.96 by the time I go around towards the evening and 00:10:06.15\00:10:07.90 I've gotten all 8 glasses in and so whatever way 00:10:07.93\00:10:12.12 is best, you've got to get it in and people say 00:10:12.28\00:10:15.20 what about my lemonade, what about my tea, 00:10:15.34\00:10:17.46 you know what about everything that I'm doing, 00:10:17.49\00:10:18.89 the answer is 100 percent Adam's Ale, and for 00:10:19.14\00:10:23.82 those who know me that's a 100 percent, 00:10:24.02\00:10:25.98 is Ale. That's right. I knew it was coming. 00:10:26.54\00:10:28.59 That's right. That's right. That's right. Well, 00:10:28.62\00:10:30.69 what other things can actually cause problems 00:10:30.87\00:10:32.78 for your joints? Okay, now another cause of 00:10:33.20\00:10:36.18 joint pain, now this is gonna to be an eye 00:10:36.37\00:10:38.73 opener to lot of people. So, folks hold on to 00:10:38.86\00:10:42.52 you seat. Now that 00:11:58.71\00:12:04.24 statement is very profound. Now of course 00:12:04.35\00:12:06.83 I'm going to go against what my mother used to 00:12:07.07\00:12:08.58 tell me when I was a little boy, Curtis when 00:12:08.71\00:12:10.91 you get up, out of the bed in the morning, make 00:12:10.94\00:12:13.81 up your bed. Now when a person has Arthritis, 00:12:13.84\00:12:17.32 this is one of the things you don't want to do. 00:12:17.58\00:12:21.22 The reason why that statement is so important 00:12:21.91\00:12:23.32 because when we get out of the bed we do a lot 00:12:23.40\00:12:26.20 of perspiring, a lot of water, and when we make 00:12:26.23\00:12:29.80 up the bed we trapped the dampness in between 00:12:29.83\00:12:32.97 the sheets. Therefore, there is lot of dampness 00:12:33.04\00:12:35.28 doesn't air out. When we get in that same bed 00:12:35.60\00:12:37.79 that evening, we get in there and causes 00:12:37.82\00:12:40.52 inflammation and pain because of the dampness 00:12:40.68\00:12:42.71 of the bed because of perspiration for the night 00:12:43.30\00:12:46.12 before, that's why the author says that the bed 00:12:46.22\00:12:49.31 is should be folded back, the air should come in 00:12:49.49\00:12:52.46 there and also the light should come in and air 00:12:53.55\00:12:55.46 out the sheets and also the bed as well. 00:12:55.64\00:12:57.97 Therefore, it reduces the pain of the joints; 00:12:58.19\00:13:01.15 very profound. I can see right now Curtis some 00:13:01.91\00:13:05.90 young personality, have an excuse, absolutely 00:13:05.99\00:13:08.57 saying, I just heard on Abundant Living, the 00:13:08.67\00:13:10.04 most says get up and make your bed they'll say 00:13:10.07\00:13:12.59 something like, Curtis say, what Curtis said on 00:13:12.79\00:13:15.06 3ABN or Joint Venture, I believe I have 00:13:15.30\00:13:18.11 arthritis. Yeah, it is the all day long. I can see 00:13:18.34\00:13:22.65 that happen. That concept, that's really 00:13:22.72\00:13:24.44 neat, when you really think about that because 00:13:24.47\00:13:26.66 that is true; the dampness of the body, 00:13:26.80\00:13:28.77 yeah, through the night, and it traps because it's 00:13:28.91\00:13:30.72 not been, absolutely, absolutely. Now we do 00:13:30.99\00:13:32.36 this even now. Yes. We don't have arthritis pain. 00:13:32.39\00:13:34.37 Every time we get out of bed, we fold back to 00:13:34.68\00:13:36.75 covers at least about an hour or two and then 00:13:36.91\00:13:39.49 make up our bed afterwards and when we 00:13:39.52\00:13:41.54 get into bed that evening is nice and dry, 00:13:41.57\00:13:44.43 very profound. Let's talk a little bit about 00:13:44.85\00:13:47.14 drugs as it relates to arthritis and joint pain, 00:13:47.40\00:13:50.27 what type, what about the drugs, are they safe? 00:13:50.50\00:13:53.73 Well a lot of people taken medication drugs for 00:13:54.40\00:13:56.48 the painful inflammation and of course you have 00:13:56.59\00:13:59.39 what we call the, NSAIDs Nonsteroidal 00:13:59.54\00:14:04.39 Anti-inflammatory Drugs, NSAIDs, that's 00:14:05.01\00:14:09.01 an acronym alright. Okay, okay. Ibuprofen, 00:14:09.19\00:14:11.42 Celebrex, Vioxx, you name it. Now they do 00:14:11.48\00:14:14.81 suppress these inflammatory responses, 00:14:15.73\00:14:18.94 alright, reduce the inflammation, okay, 00:14:19.07\00:14:20.75 but at the same time have a three percent 00:14:20.82\00:14:23.28 chance or three times the increase risk of 00:14:23.47\00:14:25.75 gastrointestinal problems, upset stomach, 00:14:26.23\00:14:29.13 dizziness, headaches and prolong use can cause 00:14:29.90\00:14:32.92 renal failure, alright list that. Okay. So, now 00:14:33.05\00:14:35.97 those NSAIDs or Celebrex, Ibuprofen and those 00:14:36.46\00:14:39.20 kind of things now of course are the new name 00:14:39.32\00:14:41.28 for the acronym NSAIDs, new source of Aspirin 00:14:41.37\00:14:45.66 in disguise. Really! NSAIDs, alright okay, 00:14:46.01\00:14:48.56 okay, different ways, okay, Okay. But now, 00:14:48.59\00:14:50.01 but there are some things that we can do, 00:14:50.30\00:14:51.67 in place of that, that doesn't cause the side 00:14:52.11\00:14:53.93 effects that are very profound. Now I know 00:14:53.97\00:14:55.82 you're gonna go around with that one. Now, 00:14:55.93\00:14:57.30 you're gonna to talking about herbal medicine 00:14:57.33\00:14:58.70 which is what everybody is waiting to hear, and 00:14:58.73\00:15:00.36 that is what type of herbal medicines can an 00:15:00.50\00:15:02.58 individual use when you talk about having 00:15:02.67\00:15:05.18 joint pain.
