These antidepressant drugs are making me 00:00:01.98\00:00:03.35 have blurred vision and constipation, 00:00:03.38\00:00:05.93 dry throat or foggy head, I'm a walking 00:00:06.50\00:00:10.12 zombie but hey guess what? It beats depression, 00:00:10.15\00:00:13.08 but today's program is entitled depression, 00:00:13.52\00:00:16.19 their drugs and alternatives, so stay by. 00:00:16.80\00:00:20.15 Hi, welcome to Abundant Living, this 00:00:49.44\00:00:51.22 is Curtis Eakins and this is my beautiful 00:00:51.25\00:00:53.52 bride Paula Eakins. How are you doing 00:00:53.55\00:00:55.96 today honey? Wonderful. 00:00:55.99\00:00:57.36 Your doing fine? Wonderful. 00:00:57.44\00:00:58.81 Look pretty good too. Thank you, you're 00:00:59.19\00:01:01.76 welcome. Wow, you sure named some 00:01:01.79\00:01:04.37 heavy stuff when this thing began this 00:01:04.40\00:01:06.37 program and we didn't cover all of the 00:01:06.40\00:01:08.04 symptoms and but I think someone 00:01:08.07\00:01:10.67 mentioned some else but we left that one out. 00:01:10.70\00:01:12.58 But there's a lot of symptoms dealing 00:01:12.84\00:01:14.21 with depression and their drugs so. 00:01:14.24\00:01:16.89 Again, a lot of people they have those things 00:01:17.39\00:01:19.54 and you know you have weigh out your 00:01:20.21\00:01:23.00 benefit to risk ratio. The benefits are 00:01:23.40\00:01:27.69 worth the risk then it may be adventitious, 00:01:27.72\00:01:29.84 if they risk out weighs the benefit then it may 00:01:29.87\00:01:32.20 not be adventitious to take that medication. 00:01:32.23\00:01:34.56 Well, you're saying about drugs and also 00:01:34.82\00:01:36.56 alternative, I guess my first question 00:01:36.59\00:01:38.45 Curtis to you would be what's actually 00:01:38.48\00:01:40.85 going on in a brain when a person is 00:01:40.88\00:01:43.42 suffering from depression. Okay, now again this 00:01:43.83\00:01:46.67 is a part of our running series our 00:01:46.70\00:01:48.83 mental wellness and last time we were on 00:01:48.86\00:01:52.26 3ABN we talked about depression and 00:01:52.29\00:01:55.35 also unveiling the culprit. Sure. 00:01:55.38\00:01:57.27 And so this time we're gonna go more into 00:01:57.47\00:01:59.65 the brain the drugs and also some 00:01:59.68\00:02:01.97 alternative to those drugs as well. 00:02:02.00\00:02:03.80 Now, in our presentations when we go in a community 00:02:04.29\00:02:06.92 sometimes we have a card and it has 00:02:07.41\00:02:11.01 three letters K I S S now some speakers 00:02:11.36\00:02:16.70 who speak quite often no one I am talking 00:02:16.73\00:02:18.84 about that a acronym, you remember acronym 00:02:18.87\00:02:21.32 honey, you wanna. No, you got it go on 00:02:21.35\00:02:24.30 one with this one. K I S S simply means 00:02:24.33\00:02:28.38 Keep It Simple Stupid. Now, so therefore this 00:02:28.80\00:02:32.93 can be very in depth as far as we're going 00:02:32.96\00:02:35.22 to the brain. So, we gonna keep it simple, 00:02:35.25\00:02:37.63 now, smarty because well we have done we 00:02:37.66\00:02:40.40 changed the last S to smarty because this is 00:02:40.43\00:02:42.71 more complementary. So, it little more 00:02:42.74\00:02:44.57 smarty so, that's what we're gonna do. 00:02:44.60\00:02:45.97 Well, we're going to the brain because 00:02:46.28\00:02:47.65 there is something going on in the brain 00:02:47.68\00:02:49.47 that triggers or not triggers but it's a 00:02:50.31\00:02:52.19 result of someone being depressed and 00:02:52.22\00:02:54.67 so with that in mind, we have what 00:02:54.70\00:02:56.44 we call Serotonin. Now, most people 00:02:56.47\00:02:59.32 heard of the term, its a neurotransmitter in a 00:02:59.35\00:03:02.22 brain serotonin and when a person is 00:03:02.25\00:03:06.22 experiencing depression serotonin levels are 00:03:06.40\00:03:10.89 low, okay, when a person is not 00:03:10.92\00:03:12.69 experiencing depression have a good mood 00:03:12.72\00:03:14.59 whatever then serotonin levels are 00:03:14.62\00:03:17.44 high that's about simple I can get that, 00:03:17.47\00:03:19.87 alright. So, with that in mind we call 00:03:19.90\00:03:22.02 serotonin a mood regulator alright, 00:03:22.05\00:03:26.20 and so with that mind that's the reason for 00:03:26.55\00:03:29.05 serotonin and, so therefore a lot of 00:03:29.08\00:03:30.93 drugs are catering to boosting 00:03:30.96\00:03:33.41 the serotonin levels. Now with that in 00:03:33.44\00:03:35.41 mind also of course you have a lot of 00:03:35.44\00:03:38.54 side effects as I just mentioned at the 00:03:38.57\00:03:40.52 opening as well, okay, okay, you have the 00:03:40.55\00:03:42.15 blurred vision, the constipation, 00:03:42.18\00:03:43.79 the nausea, the dry throat, a foggy feeling, 00:03:43.82\00:03:47.75 horrendous jitters, even suicidal thoughts. 00:03:48.45\00:03:51.76 Now, depression brings on suicidal 00:03:52.27\00:03:55.51 thoughts, some of the medication brings it 00:03:55.54\00:03:57.66 on too like a double whammy but again 00:03:57.69\00:04:00.83 that's what we're dealing with, 00:04:00.86\00:04:02.46 some of those medications out there as well. 00:04:02.49\00:04:04.31 Well, you're talking about the medications 00:04:05.15\00:04:06.56 stuff so, what about drug therapy, 00:04:06.59\00:04:08.12 talk a little bit to us about that. 00:04:08.15\00:04:09.62 Okay like I mentioned before a drug therapy 00:04:10.06\00:04:12.65 is not as efficacious as we will like it to be in 00:04:13.23\00:04:16.18 a medical profession. Antidepressant drugs 00:04:16.21\00:04:19.64 has tripled in the last 10 years, last year 00:04:19.67\00:04:23.87 some two hundred millions prescriptions 00:04:24.21\00:04:26.95 were filled for anti- depressant drugs alright. 00:04:26.98\00:04:30.60 So, it's growing at a increasing rate, 00:04:30.80\00:04:33.71 now with that in mind its only half effective 00:04:34.14\00:04:37.18 for those who are depressed. 00:04:37.21\00:04:38.58 So, anti-depressants only works for about 00:04:38.98\00:04:40.92 half of the people who are depressed out there. 00:04:40.95\00:04:43.06 So, the other half not really 00:04:43.57\00:04:45.72 receiving any real benefit. 00:04:45.75\00:04:47.35 Now when it comes to serotonin because a 00:04:47.78\00:04:50.29 lot of these drugs really focuses on 00:04:50.32\00:04:53.71 serotonin, right, to increase the serotonin 00:04:54.20\00:04:57.42 in the brain itself. So, with that in mind 00:04:57.45\00:05:00.74 we have what we call the S S R I, Selective 00:05:00.77\00:05:06.40 Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, S S R I, 00:05:07.17\00:05:13.17 these drugs target the serotonin. 00:05:13.89\00:05:17.06 Therefore enhance the serotonin levels, 00:05:17.76\00:05:19.67 therefore a person can have more of a better 00:05:20.02\00:05:22.88 mood with those. Now, with those 00:05:22.91\00:05:25.48 drugs, okay, those are only 20 to 30 percent 00:05:25.51\00:05:28.58 effective. Okay. So, close to 70 percent of 00:05:28.61\00:05:31.14 people who taken SSRI are not even 00:05:31.17\00:05:34.41 really benefited from those type of drugs. 00:05:34.82\00:05:37.08 Therefore a lot of people say hey I have 00:05:37.46\00:05:39.30 these drugs out there in a medical 00:05:39.33\00:05:40.70 profession anti- depressants SSRI, 00:05:40.73\00:05:44.02 they're not as effective I still need some help. 00:05:44.38\00:05:48.61 And with that in mind that's why a lot of 00:05:49.09\00:05:50.99 people are moving more to the alternative row 00:05:51.02\00:05:54.29 as far as drugs are concerned. 00:05:54.32\00:05:55.69 So and like I said before last week when 00:05:56.09\00:05:58.11 we were here women are experienced more 00:05:58.14\00:06:00.40 depression then man, two to four times 00:06:00.43\00:06:02.56 more then that. And a lot of times some 00:06:02.59\00:06:05.98 of them pregnancy, due to pregnancy 00:06:06.01\00:06:08.95 those who are depressed may take 00:06:09.22\00:06:10.71 that medication, it can also harm 00:06:10.74\00:06:12.79 the fetal as well. So, therefore we need 00:06:12.82\00:06:15.65 some alternatives to depression drugs, 00:06:15.68\00:06:20.04 when we speak about alternatives 00:06:20.70\00:06:22.07 I know we're often talk about alternatives 00:06:22.10\00:06:23.77 now as a non-drug therapy, alright. 00:06:23.80\00:06:26.23 So, this non-drug therapy or a way in 00:06:26.60\00:06:29.50 which lifestyle or and or eating can possibly 00:06:29.53\00:06:32.99 take the place of the drug or okay. 00:06:33.02\00:06:36.23 So, if that, in that respect you know my 00:06:36.45\00:06:38.25 first question is gonna to be you that is, 00:06:38.28\00:06:40.14 are there foods that are high in serotonin level. 00:06:40.50\00:06:43.35 Okay, now that's a very good question 00:06:43.38\00:06:45.10 because serotonin levels are low which 00:06:45.13\00:06:47.77 is the trade mark of those who are 00:06:47.80\00:06:49.70 depressed it seems to reason if I eat foods 00:06:49.73\00:06:53.83 high in serotonin that serotonin levels 00:06:54.24\00:06:57.50 become higher, okay, well, that's not as 00:06:57.89\00:07:00.73 easily said, okay, because number one 00:07:00.76\00:07:02.98 foods high in serotonin, there are 00:07:03.78\00:07:05.15 many foods that are high in serotonin. 00:07:05.18\00:07:06.55 I'm not even going to mention them, 00:07:07.30\00:07:08.67 the reason why is this, when you eat those 00:07:08.71\00:07:10.55 foods high in serotonin but because 00:07:10.58\00:07:12.68 serotonin does not cross the blood brain 00:07:12.71\00:07:14.69 barrier then it does not affect serotonin levels. 00:07:14.72\00:07:17.57 So, we eat those foods but it does not impact 00:07:18.13\00:07:20.38 our serotonin levels, okay. And that's why 00:07:20.77\00:07:22.71 a lot of times we're dealing with the food, 00:07:22.74\00:07:24.82 we're dealing with the chemistry, 00:07:24.85\00:07:26.22 the neurotransmitter in a brain. 00:07:26.25\00:07:27.62 So, therefore you cannot talk up 00:07:27.87\00:07:31.55 serotonin there must be something that one 00:07:32.23\00:07:35.53 can take to boost the serotonin level that's 00:07:35.56\00:07:37.81 why with depression talk therapy has 00:07:37.84\00:07:42.16 moved into drug therapy. Because you cannot 00:07:42.19\00:07:46.43 talk serotonin into someone's brain. 00:07:46.60\00:07:50.16 So, therefore there is shift as far as 00:07:50.67\00:07:52.69 treatment is concerned. So, with that in mind 00:07:52.72\00:07:54.85 now there are some foods that has Tryptophan, 00:07:55.09\00:08:00.52 now some people may have heard of that term. 00:08:00.55\00:08:02.32 Tryptophan is a essential amino acid, 00:08:03.41\00:08:05.46 that is a precursor of serotonin. 00:08:05.89\00:08:09.14 So, when we eat foods high in Tryptophan 00:08:09.48\00:08:12.25 therefore increases our serotonin the mood 00:08:12.74\00:08:15.70 regulator therefore serotonin 00:08:15.73\00:08:17.59 levels are increased. Now, with that in 00:08:17.62\00:08:20.33 mind the foods high in Tryptophan. 00:08:20.36\00:08:23.44 Let's go to our first graphic and see what 00:08:23.78\00:08:25.15 those foods are? I call these foods 00:08:25.18\00:08:27.24 the mood foods. Now, the highest food 00:08:27.27\00:08:30.33 that has the highest kind of Tryptophan is 00:08:30.36\00:08:32.54 of course the soybeans, okay, and of course 00:08:32.57\00:08:34.85 soybean as you also get tofu as well then 00:08:34.88\00:08:38.06 you have spinach, fresh spinach, 00:08:38.09\00:08:40.97 the Broccoli, steamed broccoli, 00:08:41.73\00:08:43.42 mustard greens, sesame seeds. 00:08:44.34\00:08:46.55 All of this are foods they're high in 00:08:46.93\00:08:49.41 Tryptophan which is a precursor to serotonin. 00:08:49.98\00:08:54.87 So, those are the key foods that are in high 00:08:56.14\00:08:57.74 in Tryptophan and again I have to 00:08:57.77\00:08:59.21 emphasize that the soybean is number 00:08:59.24\00:09:03.00 one as far as Tryptophan is 00:09:03.03\00:09:04.42 concerned so we take in those foods then 00:09:04.45\00:09:06.92 serotonin was just the mood regulator help 00:09:06.95\00:09:10.03 for those who may be depressed. 00:09:10.06\00:09:11.92 What about natural supplements. 00:09:13.41\00:09:14.94 Okay, now, there's are lot of natural 00:09:15.51\00:09:16.88 supplements out there in the market as well 00:09:16.91\00:09:18.34 that people can take and some of these 00:09:18.37\00:09:20.60 natural supplements I am just gonna 00:09:20.63\00:09:22.00 mention two of there is many we can mention 00:09:22.03\00:09:23.71 alternative to drugs and what drugs can do 00:09:24.15\00:09:27.49 and short coming drugs for depression 00:09:27.52\00:09:30.37 but two are produced by the body by the 00:09:30.88\00:09:33.60 way, one is called 5- Hydroxytryptophan, 00:09:33.63\00:09:37.27 5HTP. Let's go to our first graphic, well our 00:09:37.72\00:09:40.82 second graphic and lets see what this 00:09:40.85\00:09:42.49 particular supplement can do. We call this a nature's 00:09:42.83\00:09:47.08 antidepressant of the 17 reviewed clinical 00:09:47.11\00:09:51.03 studies 13 confirmed that 5-HTP has true 00:09:51.06\00:09:57.21 antidepressant properties. 5- HTP this stands for 00:09:57.71\00:10:04.34 5- Hydroxytryptophan. Alright and again, 00:10:04.37\00:10:07.36 this is another precursor to serotonin 00:10:07.39\00:10:12.61 alright, and so therefore with that in 00:10:13.02\00:10:14.91 mind our people can do that and the doses 00:10:14.94\00:10:18.30 based on clinical studies can range 00:10:18.68\00:10:20.87 anywhere from 100 to 300 mg/day and 00:10:20.90\00:10:26.27 suggest to take that in the evening, no more 00:10:26.30\00:10:29.41 than two months at a time. And a lot of people 00:10:29.44\00:10:32.50 who have taken this found to be, 00:10:32.53\00:10:34.76 have their depression symptoms either 00:10:35.35\00:10:38.66 reduced or eliminated. Alright, find in any 00:10:39.13\00:10:42.66 health food store as far as 5-HTP. 00:10:42.69\00:10:45.52 Now, there is another one that's very 00:10:45.97\00:10:48.67 profound, has a lot of clinical studies back 00:10:48.70\00:10:51.23 in this as well. Let's go to our last 00:10:51.26\00:10:53.75 graphic and let's see what this it may can 00:10:53.78\00:10:55.45 do as well. A proven track record, in over 00:10:55.48\00:10:59.92 40 clinical studies, SAM-e has demonstrated 00:11:00.08\00:11:06.25 the ability to enhance both serotonin and 00:11:06.28\00:11:11.05 dopamine levels eliminating or 00:11:11.45\00:11:14.45 decreasing symptoms of depression. 00:11:14.48\00:11:18.17 SAM-e sometimes is known, this is, 00:11:19.00\00:11:21.04 again this is produced in our body, but again 00:11:21.07\00:11:23.87 we can get this at any health food store as 00:11:24.06\00:11:26.22 well and this SAM-e, the doses with this is 00:11:26.25\00:11:31.01 about 40, 400mgs twice a day this has 00:11:31.04\00:11:35.73 been used for over 40 years. It's been very 00:11:35.76\00:11:39.11 efficacious for those who not receiving the 00:11:39.14\00:11:43.10 benefit they're hoping for and depression 00:11:43.13\00:11:46.95 drugs but also this is another way of using 00:11:46.98\00:11:50.04 some alternatives as far as that is 00:11:50.07\00:11:51.84 concerned. So, there's many other things out 00:11:51.87\00:11:53.61 there I didn't even mentioned St. Johns 00:11:53.64\00:11:55.70 Wort we know about that in Germany by 00:11:55.73\00:11:58.45 the way I just mentioned this point 00:11:58.48\00:11:59.85 right here, that in Germany you know Prozac, 00:11:59.88\00:12:04.48 Zoloft and Paxil, those are SSRI's 00:12:04.51\00:12:08.67 Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. 00:12:08.70\00:12:11.17 In Germany, only two percent of the people 00:12:11.70\00:12:16.02 in the Germany use Prozac over 60 00:12:16.05\00:12:20.02 percent use St. John's Wort in 00:12:20.05\00:12:22.48 antidepressants. So, again they are 00:12:22.51\00:12:25.30 using a lot more natural remedies over 00:12:25.33\00:12:27.64 there then we use here in United States but 00:12:27.67\00:12:30.70 so that's the some of the things we can do 00:12:30.73\00:12:32.33 magnesium 400 mg it helps the brain cell 00:12:32.91\00:12:36.38 connection that very efficacious a lot more 00:12:36.41\00:12:39.12 we can offer but just want to give them 00:12:39.15\00:12:41.06 something they can go on as some 00:12:41.47\00:12:43.30 alternative to drug therapy. 00:12:43.33\00:12:45.20 Now, going with word of God, 00:12:45.58\00:12:46.95 I think someone might be asking a 00:12:48.11\00:12:49.48 question that is that are you talking about 00:12:49.51\00:12:51.10 all three of these things at one time or 00:12:51.13\00:12:52.71 you talking about one or the other, 00:12:52.74\00:12:54.53 yeah very good question yeah, it just depends 00:12:54.98\00:12:58.28 some people have very good results 00:12:58.69\00:13:01.25 from just a 5-HTP by itself alright, 00:13:01.28\00:13:05.29 and some people use that with St. John's 00:13:05.71\00:13:09.33 Wort, okay, or Valerian, okay, and 00:13:09.36\00:13:11.38 you have to you know work and see what 00:13:11.41\00:13:13.67 works best for you. Other people just use 00:13:13.70\00:13:16.11 St. John's Wort by itself, because 00:13:16.14\00:13:17.58 remember you have different degrees of depression. 00:13:17.61\00:13:19.90 You have mild, you have moderate, 00:13:19.93\00:13:21.59 you have severe, alright. So you may have to 00:13:21.62\00:13:23.84 also work with your dosage as well, and 00:13:23.87\00:13:26.86 work with your health care professional, 00:13:26.89\00:13:28.81 absolutely, so they can be aware that 00:13:28.84\00:13:31.03 you're doing those things as well. 00:13:31.19\00:13:32.56 So, again in the SAM-e of course, that's 00:13:32.93\00:13:35.99 another way of doing that some people find 00:13:36.02\00:13:38.04 good results just by that alone and nothing else. 00:13:38.07\00:13:40.49 Our combination there, but again 00:13:40.86\00:13:42.52 SAM-e and 5-HTP are produced in our 00:13:42.95\00:13:46.14 body in a way. So therefore you don't 00:13:46.17\00:13:48.41 have those adverse reaction that you 00:13:48.44\00:13:50.01 would normally get from the drug 00:13:50.04\00:13:51.41 mediation. Now, going to the word of 00:13:51.44\00:13:53.11 God 'cause you see our time's slipping 00:13:53.14\00:13:54.51 away, God has something to say 00:13:54.54\00:13:55.91 about depression and we're gonna close up 00:13:55.94\00:13:57.42 with another Biblical example as well, 00:13:57.45\00:13:59.08 you know in Psalms 42 okay, there's some 00:13:59.11\00:14:02.01 statements being made, and it says, 00:14:02.04\00:14:03.62 the soul cast down. So the Bible talks 00:14:04.29\00:14:06.52 about that as well, and in Psalms 42 it says 00:14:06.55\00:14:09.31 my soul is cast down within me and why art 00:14:09.62\00:14:13.57 thou cast down, O my soul? Oh! Okay, now here 00:14:14.12\00:14:17.95 whole chapter is dealing with this 00:14:17.98\00:14:19.35 of course David's writing and he is 00:14:19.38\00:14:21.14 talking about the soul being cast down and 00:14:21.17\00:14:24.01 then I like the fact because in the word 00:14:24.04\00:14:25.95 of God, even when something is going 00:14:25.98\00:14:27.98 on, even when we hear a story we will 00:14:28.01\00:14:30.44 see that God's promises and God 00:14:30.47\00:14:32.61 speaks also to us and so here in the 00:14:32.64\00:14:34.58 New Testament Second Corinthians 00:14:34.61\00:14:36.75 7:6 it says from God, God is a God of 00:14:37.08\00:14:42.07 comfort and he comforts those who 00:14:42.10\00:14:44.85 are cast down. Okay, Amen. 00:14:45.18\00:14:47.83 Now speaking of God comforting those 00:14:47.86\00:14:49.62 who are cast down means, that means we 00:14:49.65\00:14:51.49 then need to go to the word of God 00:14:51.52\00:14:53.27 and you have a story about someone whose 00:14:54.13\00:14:56.52 soul was cast down. Yeah, I called this, 00:14:56.55\00:14:59.42 we're gonna close up on this one, I call this 00:14:59.45\00:15:01.92 the prime example, a Biblical depression. 00:15:01.95\00:15:06.25 The best example in the word of God is 00:15:07.30\00:15:10.51 housed in I Kings 18 and also verse 19 00:15:10.68\00:15:15.57 now we're talking about Elijah, let me 00:15:15.95\00:15:17.72 just kind of summarize the story, some you 00:15:17.75\00:15:19.73 know the story I Kings chapter 18 00:15:19.76\00:15:21.93 and Elijah was a prophet by God for 00:15:22.35\00:15:25.51 God to the Northern part of Israel, 00:15:25.54\00:15:27.97 of course Israel the Northern Part they 00:15:28.46\00:15:29.94 had apostatized and started worshiping 00:15:29.97\00:15:31.74 other idols and worshiping Baal. 00:15:31.77\00:15:33.91 So, Elijah was sent there to straighten 00:15:34.63\00:15:36.37 things out and Baal's prophets were about 00:15:36.40\00:15:39.42 450 plus another 400 in a grove so 00:15:39.58\00:15:44.50 looking at 950 to one but Elijah with God is 00:15:44.53\00:15:51.46 the majority. So, he had the majority 00:15:51.49\00:15:53.61 on his side and here's the deal he said okay 00:15:53.64\00:15:55.98 look guys, we need to straighten this thing 00:15:56.01\00:15:57.64 out, you need to worship God so let's 00:15:57.67\00:15:59.86 go ahead and put this to a climax, on Mount 00:15:59.89\00:16:03.21 Carmel lets build a altar. You select the bullock, 00:16:03.24\00:16:07.02 I'll select one you go first put the bullock 00:16:07.46\00:16:11.16 on the altar and if fire comes down from 00:16:11.19\00:16:14.55 Heaven burn up your bullock then we know 00:16:14.58\00:16:17.63 that your God is the true God and then I'll 00:16:17.66\00:16:21.55 go next if it does the same with me then we 00:16:21.58\00:16:24.65 know that my God is the true God. 00:16:24.68\00:16:27.33 So, they went first, had the bullock and 00:16:27.61\00:16:29.71 had the altar there, they started in the 00:16:29.74\00:16:31.83 morning, noon until the evening and the 00:16:31.86\00:16:34.98 fire never came down and then Elijah said 00:16:35.01\00:16:38.67 okay, I want everybody to come close, 00:16:38.70\00:16:40.07 now it's my turn and he prepared the 00:16:40.73\00:16:43.59 bullock on the alter and to make matters 00:16:43.62\00:16:47.51 worse he said, I want you to pour water and 00:16:47.54\00:16:50.37 saturate the altar with water, okay, do it the 00:16:50.40\00:16:53.96 second time, do it the third time so make no 00:16:53.99\00:16:57.66 mistake about it, it was drenched wet 00:16:57.69\00:17:00.66 with water then he called on God himself 00:17:00.69\00:17:03.64 and fire came down, burn up the bullock, 00:17:03.67\00:17:05.85 the alter and also the water around the altar 00:17:05.88\00:17:08.25 as well, and it was just amazing, but now 00:17:08.28\00:17:11.86 there's something that happened because of 00:17:11.89\00:17:13.81 that and I want to read something, again we 00:17:13.84\00:17:16.27 introduced this author before on our last 00:17:16.30\00:17:18.79 program and this book called Prophets and Kings. 00:17:18.82\00:17:22.17 Talking about a prime example of depression 00:17:22.68\00:17:25.85 and so that event took place this is what happened. 00:17:26.32\00:17:29.26 He feared that the reformation that 00:17:31.27\00:17:34.19 began on Mount Carmel might not be 00:17:34.22\00:17:38.12 lasting; and get this folks and depression 00:17:38.57\00:17:42.73 seized him. And he decided never again to 00:17:43.46\00:17:48.99 look upon the face of man. So, because of this 00:17:49.02\00:17:54.01 grand event, when he feels that, wait a 00:17:54.04\00:17:57.32 minute, this might not last. 00:17:57.35\00:18:00.31 And that fear, that anticipation of fear 00:18:00.93\00:18:03.98 that it might not last, depression seized 00:18:04.24\00:18:08.93 him, one other thing that this author points 00:18:08.96\00:18:11.84 out she says that because he was 00:18:11.87\00:18:15.78 exalted above measure, sure and 00:18:15.81\00:18:20.70 when that happened then the author says 00:18:20.73\00:18:24.12 Elijah left hold of God's unchanging hand. 00:18:25.11\00:18:29.36 And I'm gonna fast forward this story, 00:18:29.93\00:18:31.63 so when that happened and King 00:18:32.32\00:18:34.27 Ahab told his wife Jezebel what happened. 00:18:34.30\00:18:37.29 Jezebel says Ahab said Elijah's life by 00:18:37.86\00:18:43.07 this time tomorrow Elijah you're gonna 00:18:43.10\00:18:45.76 die, he heard that and Elijah took off 00:18:45.79\00:18:48.55 running, we're gonna pick up this story 00:18:48.58\00:18:50.73 quickly in I Kings chapter 19 in verse 4, 00:18:50.76\00:18:54.26 listen to this, But he himself went a day's 00:18:54.29\00:18:57.97 journey into the wilderness, and came 00:18:58.00\00:19:00.09 and sat down under a juniper tree; 00:19:00.12\00:19:02.32 and he requested for himself that he might 00:19:02.74\00:19:05.15 die and said, It is enough, now, O Lord, 00:19:05.18\00:19:10.12 take away my life, for I am no better than 00:19:10.15\00:19:14.45 my father. One of the simplistic 00:19:14.48\00:19:16.49 of depression is that you wish to die, 00:19:16.52\00:19:19.64 you have no desire to live. 00:19:19.67\00:19:22.31 Elijah wished that he would die another 00:19:23.40\00:19:27.43 hallmark of depression is low self esteem or 00:19:27.90\00:19:31.57 worthlessness, he said here that I am 00:19:31.60\00:19:35.13 no better than my fathers. And so therefore he 00:19:35.16\00:19:38.98 went and God took him and he went up 00:19:39.01\00:19:43.64 on a mountain, long story short God came 00:19:43.67\00:19:47.56 to Elijah on the mountain first in a 00:19:47.59\00:19:51.39 hurricane then in an earthquake and then a 00:19:51.42\00:19:54.99 fire and the Bible says in I Kings chapter 00:19:55.20\00:19:57.92 19 verse 11 and 12 then God came to 00:19:57.95\00:20:00.70 Elijah in a still small voice. At that point in 00:20:00.73\00:20:07.39 time this author says depression was 00:20:07.43\00:20:11.80 silenced in a still small voice. 00:20:11.83\00:20:14.61 So, those who are watching you may be 00:20:15.06\00:20:17.41 depressed, you may know someone who is 00:20:17.44\00:20:19.36 depressed, going through those 00:20:19.39\00:20:20.81 depressive symptoms in a still small voice, 00:20:20.84\00:20:24.70 listen to God's call. Listen to the small 00:20:25.11\00:20:28.06 voice of the Holy Spirit and again 00:20:28.09\00:20:30.45 there's a sure remedy for depression. 00:20:30.48\00:20:32.22 Faith, prayer, and work. Therefore we want to 00:20:33.20\00:20:38.74 give you those truths today to beat depression, 00:20:38.77\00:20:42.43 to reach through the darkness into the 00:20:42.88\00:20:45.33 glorious life. Now, that means that 00:20:45.36\00:20:48.61 there is more to this depression because 00:20:48.64\00:20:50.84 you've only just started touching the 00:20:50.87\00:20:52.68 surface, yes, touching the surface, drugs and 00:20:52.71\00:20:54.49 alternative and a story by Elijah, there is so 00:20:54.52\00:20:57.29 much that can be said about that but we got 00:20:57.32\00:20:59.01 to go into kitchen so we have to pick that 00:20:59.04\00:21:01.13 up well, I'm feeling about that whole story 00:21:01.16\00:21:03.47 because God is also once again we're 00:21:03.50\00:21:05.69 going into the kitchen and we are gonna be 00:21:05.72\00:21:07.50 doing an apple salad ambrosia. 00:21:07.53\00:21:10.21 Get your paper and your pencil 00:21:10.24\00:21:11.86 and meet us in the kitchen. 00:21:11.89\00:21:13.47
