High calorie dense foods, high salty foods, 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.99 high sugar foods, sugary snacks everywhere, 00:00:05.31\00:00:09.39 shopping malls, gas stations, 00:00:09.42\00:00:11.23 fast food restaurants that open later and later 00:00:11.64\00:00:14.41 for your convenience, no money, no problem 00:00:14.44\00:00:18.03 they now take credit cards. We simply live in a culture, 00:00:18.06\00:00:21.67 which advised today's topic entitled snack attacks, 00:00:21.70\00:00:25.42 we'll be right back. 00:00:25.45\00:00:26.82 Hi, welcome to Abundant Living, 00:00:57.86\00:00:59.41 this is Curtis Eakins, I am glad you are with us today, 00:00:59.44\00:01:02.09 I would like to introduce my beautiful bride of 00:01:02.12\00:01:05.03 13 glorious wonderful years Paula Eakins, 00:01:05.06\00:01:08.33 how are you doing honey? I am doing wonderful. 00:01:08.36\00:01:10.04 You're looking mighty good too. 00:01:10.07\00:01:11.44 Thank you. Praise the Lord! Snack attacks. 00:01:11.47\00:01:14.89 Snack attacks, this is the culture we live in honey 00:01:14.92\00:01:17.78 I mean everywhere, every time we turn on the radio 00:01:17.81\00:01:20.55 or television, bill boards and magazines and 00:01:20.58\00:01:23.26 all these foods, it lures us to 00:01:23.29\00:01:25.75 increase our snack attacks. 00:01:25.78\00:01:28.42 And I think the thing that blows my mind is 00:01:29.05\00:01:30.90 that I have seen what you are seeing 00:01:30.93\00:01:32.68 at the super markets now. 00:01:32.71\00:01:34.40 Yes. The credit cards and not only that, 00:01:34.43\00:01:37.12 not only using the credit cards to actually buy 00:01:37.15\00:01:39.61 the food, but also at some of the fast food places 00:01:39.64\00:01:43.22 they have their own card, which you can actually use 00:01:43.25\00:01:46.08 and that is getting us into more and more trouble. 00:01:46.52\00:01:49.92 You know now this is of course is a running series 00:01:49.95\00:01:52.02 of the Winning Weigh series and this is one of 00:01:52.05\00:01:54.57 the programs on that serious, the snack attacks. 00:01:54.60\00:01:57.31 I remember I use to work with a coworker of mine at 00:01:57.34\00:01:59.98 the Huntsville hospital years ago 00:02:00.01\00:02:01.56 and she said to me she said Curtis, 00:02:01.59\00:02:04.66 the only exercise I do is when we get off from 00:02:04.69\00:02:08.24 the hospital she drive up to the fast food restaurant, 00:02:08.27\00:02:12.06 she take her finger, hit the button 00:02:12.53\00:02:16.09 and the window will come down and the only exercise 00:02:16.12\00:02:18.82 she does is she held out her hand to get the food 00:02:18.85\00:02:22.82 and then bring it back, that was it for the rest of 00:02:23.36\00:02:25.99 the day alright, and so it makes it convenient. 00:02:26.02\00:02:29.22 Yeah. They open later and later and credit cards 00:02:29.56\00:02:32.82 of course and all these advertising ads and usually 00:02:32.85\00:02:36.17 these ads are to be advertised not so much 00:02:36.20\00:02:38.37 for vegetables and fruit, but the high sugar, 00:02:38.40\00:02:42.74 high fat, high salty type foods, 00:02:43.73\00:02:48.72 the snack attacks. So we are in this 00:02:48.75\00:02:51.37 type of culture now, so part of this 00:02:51.40\00:02:54.31 the winning ways series, we are not going to just 00:02:54.34\00:02:56.21 emphasize how we can shrink those fat cells that 00:02:56.24\00:02:58.52 we talked about last time, but also there is a 00:02:58.55\00:03:01.11 spiritual warfare going on as well, 00:03:01.14\00:03:03.16 so we are going to emphasize that in 00:03:03.19\00:03:04.56 this program amongst some other things as well. 00:03:04.59\00:03:06.60 Well, lets talk about that, let's start off with the Bible 00:03:06.63\00:03:08.83 and what type of scriptures we are looking at 00:03:09.26\00:03:11.40 that might help us as we look through this 00:03:11.43\00:03:13.97 whole area of snack attacks. Okay, and again you know 00:03:14.00\00:03:16.99 we had different addictions, we have a program 00:03:17.02\00:03:19.17 some years ago called food addictions, 00:03:19.70\00:03:21.47 you know people are addicted to cigarettes and drugs, 00:03:21.50\00:03:23.64 but you know when you think about food addiction 00:03:23.67\00:03:25.74 and these are more than just desires or cravings, 00:03:26.28\00:03:29.67 people are sometimes addicted to food. 00:03:29.70\00:03:32.18 Absolutely. Now, this is also true in Biblical days, 00:03:32.21\00:03:37.43 so lets go back to God's word and lets turn to 00:03:37.72\00:03:40.35 your Bibles if you have it, if not just jot the text down, 00:03:40.38\00:03:44.04 I am reading from Deuteronomy chapter 21 00:03:44.18\00:03:47.72 and I'm going to start at verse 20, 00:03:48.30\00:03:50.59 Deuteronomy chapter 21 and verse 20, 00:03:50.62\00:03:52.85 "and they shall say unto the elders of his city" 00:03:53.20\00:03:55.24 now this is a mother and a father, 00:03:55.27\00:03:57.41 they have a son, they got some problems 00:03:58.27\00:04:00.86 with their son, so we pick up this story of verse 20. 00:04:00.89\00:04:03.86 They shall say unto the elders, 00:04:03.89\00:04:05.90 "this is our son, he is stubborn, 00:04:05.93\00:04:09.55 he is rebellious, he will not obey our voice 00:04:10.17\00:04:14.03 and he is a glutton." He is having some problems 00:04:14.55\00:04:21.05 with some snack attacks, even back in Biblical days 00:04:21.08\00:04:24.27 and again as you read on in the letter I have for 00:04:24.30\00:04:27.63 that chapter there that this is a such a severe thing 00:04:27.66\00:04:31.34 that God actually instructed the parents 00:04:31.37\00:04:34.33 there and Israelites to actually take that child 00:04:34.36\00:04:37.74 outside of the camp of Israel and stone him. 00:04:38.63\00:04:42.55 Simply because not just of snack attacks, 00:04:43.27\00:04:45.17 but also because the child was also rebellious as well. 00:04:45.20\00:04:47.67 But part of that story was because of the child 00:04:47.70\00:04:50.96 did not control the appetite. 00:04:50.99\00:04:53.23 So sometimes, a lot of times 00:04:53.26\00:04:54.66 the food sometimes control us 00:04:54.69\00:04:56.79 we need to take that control back 00:04:57.38\00:04:58.94 and we can control the food. 00:04:58.97\00:05:00.34 So, then in Biblical days there were some problems 00:05:00.47\00:05:03.85 with people having snack attacks and again 00:05:03.88\00:05:06.22 we'll go all the way back to the beginning of this world. 00:05:07.06\00:05:09.88 Appetite with a cause of our parents first sin, 00:05:10.63\00:05:13.97 and so Esau, you know coming from the field, 00:05:14.55\00:05:18.47 the Bible says he was very hungry and of course Jacob, 00:05:19.12\00:05:22.16 he had the beans, already prepared 00:05:22.19\00:05:24.89 and Esau, he recognized the birthright, 00:05:24.92\00:05:28.24 he saw the beans, he chose beans, 00:05:28.88\00:05:31.83 ahead of birthright. You know the food causes us to 00:05:31.86\00:05:35.66 have some misjudgment and Satan also understands 00:05:35.69\00:05:39.85 this too, so I think that's why Satan also 00:05:39.88\00:05:42.08 tempted Jesus with three temptations in the Bible, 00:05:42.81\00:05:44.92 that's recorded, but the first of the three 00:05:44.95\00:05:47.50 temptations Jesus in the wilderness was 00:05:47.53\00:05:50.52 to turn these stones into bread. 00:05:50.55\00:05:53.01 So there is a spiritual implication when it comes to 00:05:53.04\00:05:56.30 the Winning Weigh, losing weight, 00:05:56.51\00:05:58.99 we want to emphasize that Satan also knows that 00:05:59.14\00:06:02.62 this spiritual implications so far as getting us 00:06:03.02\00:06:06.44 to lose control of our appetite, 00:06:06.47\00:06:09.44 but Bible also tells us we should also keep 00:06:09.47\00:06:11.60 our bodies under subjection, 00:06:11.63\00:06:14.35 in other words under control, 00:06:14.38\00:06:16.48 so control our appetites 00:06:16.51\00:06:18.53 The only way that that can happen, 00:06:18.56\00:06:21.52 is that you really have to talk to the Lord about it. 00:06:21.99\00:06:24.81 Absolutely. You know I think about the time 00:06:24.84\00:06:26.96 when even a food, the food at one time 00:06:26.99\00:06:29.81 back in the 50s and the 60s was small, 00:06:29.84\00:06:32.69 like a muffin was a couple ounces, 00:06:33.36\00:06:35.68 you know now a muffin is mega. 00:06:36.20\00:06:39.05 So its larger food is more food and so you are more 00:06:39.64\00:06:43.52 tempted to eat it and of course like you said 00:06:43.55\00:06:45.92 before it becomes an addiction. 00:06:45.95\00:06:47.50 Yes, it is. It's an addiction to sweets, 00:06:47.53\00:06:49.16 an addiction to salt, an addiction to fat 00:06:49.19\00:06:51.14 and so with that in mind we need to have a spiritual 00:06:51.17\00:06:55.98 talk with the Lord about trying to get 00:06:56.27\00:06:59.03 ourselves under control. And I think that's where 00:06:59.06\00:07:01.41 we want to emphasize honey, right on the mark about 00:07:01.44\00:07:03.53 that, the spiritual connection as far as 00:07:03.56\00:07:06.04 this weight management is concerned and what if 00:07:06.07\00:07:08.34 God has some strong language for those 00:07:08.37\00:07:12.00 who have lost control of their appetites, 00:07:12.03\00:07:14.99 having these snack attacks. 00:07:15.20\00:07:16.57 So, lets go to our first graphic, 00:07:16.60\00:07:18.02 lets see the strong line that God has for us, 00:07:18.05\00:07:20.76 lets read it, "commit suicide 00:07:21.17\00:07:23.50 and put a knife to your throat 00:07:24.29\00:07:28.66 if you are given to gluttony." 00:07:29.16\00:07:32.50 That's very strong language, now at first, 00:07:33.33\00:07:36.96 value, face value you think that the Bible is telling us 00:07:37.52\00:07:41.85 to commit suicide, you know the Bible 00:07:41.88\00:07:44.67 could have said I have many ways of doing that, 00:07:44.70\00:07:46.27 the Bible could have said and put a gun to your head. 00:07:46.56\00:07:51.09 Well, that would do it. Or put a dagger through 00:07:51.45\00:07:54.83 your heart, that would do it, 00:07:54.86\00:07:56.70 but the Bible says and put a knife where? 00:07:57.02\00:08:00.78 To your throat. To your throat, 00:08:00.81\00:08:02.53 why the throat? Stay with me on this one, 00:08:03.06\00:08:05.42 that's the only passage the food passes from 00:08:06.01\00:08:08.57 the mouth to the stomach. 00:08:08.60\00:08:10.72 So what the Bible is saying is stop the act 00:08:10.75\00:08:13.94 of over eating right here, where the passage of food 00:08:14.54\00:08:18.42 into us from the mouth to the stomach, 00:08:18.45\00:08:20.66 so cut out that not so much to commit suicide 00:08:20.69\00:08:23.90 but Jesus came that we might have life 00:08:24.10\00:08:26.07 and have it more abundantly so he is saying that 00:08:26.50\00:08:28.79 getting control and stop the act right here 00:08:28.82\00:08:31.60 where food passes from the mouth to the stomach. 00:08:31.63\00:08:34.22 We've become a society though that are constantly 00:08:34.25\00:08:36.73 eating up, you might have a meal your breakfast, 00:08:36.76\00:08:39.40 you have your lunch, you have a supper 00:08:39.43\00:08:40.89 and then in between times and a lot of people believe 00:08:40.92\00:08:44.35 that are not Curtis actually eat from out of emotion. 00:08:44.38\00:08:47.64 You know being stressed out, that's a bad time 00:08:48.44\00:08:50.52 when you're stressed out. You eat a lot you know, 00:08:50.55\00:08:52.66 so trying to win that control, 00:08:52.69\00:08:55.13 trying to figure out what is it that causes me 00:08:55.16\00:08:58.07 to eat more and eat in between meals. 00:08:58.10\00:09:00.59 That snack attack is actually more than just 00:09:00.62\00:09:02.48 three meals a day, now we are talking about 00:09:02.51\00:09:04.05 all in between eating as well, right. 00:09:04.34\00:09:06.23 I think, as we look at the word of God, 00:09:06.26\00:09:07.96 Ecclesiastes 2:17, the Bible says 00:09:07.99\00:09:10.38 if it pleases eat, and in due season, yes. 00:09:10.41\00:09:14.85 When it is due. Well, how do we know 00:09:14.88\00:09:16.51 when it is due? Well, look at the digestive system, 00:09:16.54\00:09:18.37 it takes about 4 to 5 hours for the food 00:09:18.40\00:09:19.77 to digest our food, so eat at 8 O'clock in the morning, 00:09:19.80\00:09:22.09 that's breakfast food, 4-5 hours lunch, 00:09:22.12\00:09:24.82 4-5 hours supper, 4-5 hours go to bed. 00:09:24.85\00:09:29.08 So now, there is one challenge 00:09:29.11\00:09:31.87 we're gonna have in this program, 00:09:31.90\00:09:33.27 I gonna give out this challenge right now, 00:09:33.30\00:09:34.84 we are going to repeat it at the end of this program. 00:09:34.87\00:09:36.45 There is one challenge we want you to take in for the next, 00:09:36.48\00:09:41.83 for your life time basically. 00:09:42.73\00:09:44.26 This is a challenge folks and you can help repeat 00:09:44.61\00:09:46.58 this challenge, and also now we tell people kitchen 00:09:46.61\00:09:50.94 CLOSED at 6, lets say it one more time, 00:09:51.18\00:09:54.30 I don't think they were listening honey, again 00:09:54.33\00:09:55.91 Okay. Kitchen CLOSED at 6. Now we had at one time, 00:09:55.94\00:10:01.90 as a matter of fact a couple of times 00:10:01.93\00:10:03.30 we do our community programs. 00:10:03.33\00:10:04.70 That's right. And we said that and the people 00:10:04.73\00:10:06.12 just had a fit, they said, oh my goodness, 00:10:06.15\00:10:08.02 you know. But guess what well we did a week 00:10:08.05\00:10:10.42 long health program in a church, in a community 00:10:10.45\00:10:13.42 and we started on a Sabbath, 00:10:13.97\00:10:15.56 we moved through the week and we gave different 00:10:15.59\00:10:17.68 instructions each night and when they first 00:10:17.71\00:10:20.09 heard kitchen closes at 6, like that Saturday evening. 00:10:20.12\00:10:22.33 That's true. And then so many people said well, 00:10:22.36\00:10:23.79 what about tonight, you know can I eat tonight, 00:10:23.82\00:10:25.50 we said well go ahead and eat tonight. 00:10:25.53\00:10:26.90 I am going to start it on Sunday. 00:10:26.93\00:10:28.30 Okay and you believe it as we moved through 00:10:28.33\00:10:30.83 the week we were asked a question each night 00:10:30.86\00:10:32.76 and the people began to say it works. 00:10:33.30\00:10:35.76 Yes. I can actually get my food in stop at 6 o' clock 00:10:35.79\00:10:39.69 I feel better in the morning. Yeah, I think when you do 00:10:40.02\00:10:42.69 that therefore those fat cells begin to shrink, 00:10:42.72\00:10:46.87 now of course now once more eloquent audience, 00:10:47.32\00:10:50.99 it's always one in the audience, 00:10:51.02\00:10:52.70 one person said, well my kitchen is closed at 6 00:10:52.73\00:10:55.05 but the refrigerator in my bedroom it's open till 12. 00:10:55.52\00:10:59.02 Okay, no, no, no. No no no no, so that's 00:10:59.05\00:11:01.01 a big room too, the refrigerator in your bedroom Roy. 00:11:01.04\00:11:03.59 You got to hit it all. So fridge too closes 00:11:03.62\00:11:05.14 and we do that because a lot of these snack 00:11:05.17\00:11:07.52 attacks are usually in the evening. 00:11:07.55\00:11:10.34 And why is that? Because we nibble sometimes 00:11:10.37\00:11:13.55 we are bored, sometimes we watch television 00:11:13.58\00:11:15.91 we tend to eat a bag of potato chips, 00:11:16.18\00:11:17.64 a half a gallon of ice cream 00:11:17.67\00:11:19.04 and sometimes we eat when we are not hungry 00:11:19.40\00:11:22.12 and we miss queue the signal because the body 00:11:22.15\00:11:26.04 is simply full, what we think is hungry 00:11:26.07\00:11:28.74 so we eat and so those snack attacks usually 00:11:29.13\00:11:31.46 happen in the evening, so when we close at 6 00:11:31.49\00:11:33.55 that's when the holy spirit comes in folks. 00:11:33.58\00:11:35.21 Yeah. Ask the holy spirit to help us and when we do 00:11:35.24\00:11:38.01 that then the weight will also start to come down, 00:11:38.04\00:11:40.56 kitchen closes at 6. 00:11:40.59\00:11:41.96 What are some of the problems about 00:11:41.99\00:11:43.36 constant eating, what can happen as a result of that. 00:11:43.39\00:11:46.05 Well, this one inspired a lot of that we like to 00:11:46.08\00:11:48.95 quote quite often Ellen G. White, inspired by God 00:11:48.98\00:11:52.82 that most people, I believe over 12 million 00:11:54.01\00:11:56.17 people around the world, the most translated author 00:11:56.20\00:11:58.76 in the United States, number one woman 00:11:58.79\00:12:01.40 that's translated in the entire world according to 00:12:01.43\00:12:03.65 library of congress, she made a statement that 00:12:03.68\00:12:05.84 would go something like this, 00:12:05.87\00:12:07.24 I'm going to paraphrase, she says that the brain 00:12:07.27\00:12:09.73 is very closely connected to the stomach 00:12:09.76\00:12:12.01 and so when we overeat what happens is that 00:12:12.66\00:12:15.88 the brain nerve power, now she said this in 1800s, 00:12:15.91\00:12:20.82 the brain nerve power has to help out the stomach 00:12:20.85\00:12:25.41 to digest the food. Now being in neurosurgery 00:12:25.44\00:12:29.07 I know there are 12 cranial nerves, 12, 00:12:29.10\00:12:32.14 she said that brain nerve power, 00:12:32.41\00:12:35.76 so which one of the 12 cranial nerve is the nerve 00:12:35.79\00:12:39.09 that actually helps the stomach 00:12:39.12\00:12:41.48 to digest the food? We have discovered 00:12:41.51\00:12:44.45 the name of that nerve, it's called the Vagus nerve 00:12:44.48\00:12:48.69 that's the only nerve from the brain to go to 00:12:48.72\00:12:51.91 the stomach to help digest the food now when that's 00:12:51.94\00:12:54.50 constant because of overeating, 00:12:54.53\00:12:56.59 that brain nerve power comes from the brain, 00:12:56.62\00:12:59.08 then when we overeat and stuff ourselves, 00:12:59.56\00:13:02.92 the brain becomes sluggish and that's why we tend to 00:13:03.29\00:13:05.88 go to sleep and therefore when that happens, 00:13:07.68\00:13:10.22 an adjustment is impaired. 00:13:10.25\00:13:12.04 So this is a very close connection between 00:13:12.07\00:13:14.51 the brain and the stomach and that's one of the 00:13:14.54\00:13:16.90 problems of having these snack attacks 00:13:16.93\00:13:19.37 and it's usually in the evening time. 00:13:19.40\00:13:21.64 Vagus nerve. The Vagus nerve, 00:13:22.36\00:13:24.16 it's a big nerve, we did a carotid 00:13:24.19\00:13:25.82 endarterectomy where we actually see that nerve, 00:13:25.85\00:13:28.01 that nice sized nerve that comes from the brain stem 00:13:28.04\00:13:30.42 down to the stomach Well, I guess the question 00:13:30.45\00:13:33.32 then is what about calorie dense foods 00:13:33.35\00:13:35.30 because that's also a major culprit, 00:13:35.33\00:13:37.50 we talk about identify, when you say calorie dense, 00:13:37.53\00:13:41.12 yes, what type of foods are we talking about? 00:13:41.15\00:13:42.79 Yeah calorie dense simply means there is a lady 00:13:42.82\00:13:44.78 named Dr Barbara Rose she is an nutritionist 00:13:44.81\00:13:49.33 at the university of Penn State and she does 00:13:49.36\00:13:52.34 some good research on calorie dense food 00:13:52.37\00:13:55.14 for over 20 years and she is a author of the book 00:13:55.17\00:13:58.05 called volumetrics, what kind of dense food 00:13:58.08\00:14:00.83 is simply this, is the amount of calories 00:14:00.86\00:14:03.71 in a gram of food. In other words, 00:14:03.74\00:14:06.77 certain foods have high calories in a small amount 00:14:08.02\00:14:12.12 of weight, we call that food calorie dense, 00:14:12.15\00:14:16.19 it's very dense in calories, 00:14:16.22\00:14:18.42 let me give you some examples, 00:14:18.45\00:14:19.82 potato chips is a calorie dense food, you know 00:14:20.88\00:14:24.23 one chip has a lot of calories yet is light, 00:14:24.26\00:14:27.86 but it's calorie dense, you know 5.5, mayonnaise 00:14:27.89\00:14:33.12 and butter is a calorie dense food 7.2, 00:14:33.76\00:14:38.07 the food has the highest amount of calories 00:14:38.77\00:14:41.88 per weight is oil 8.8, therefore when we fry foods 00:14:41.91\00:14:50.78 that oil seeped into that food that is fried, 00:14:51.33\00:14:54.49 therefore that baked potato which is only 00:14:54.52\00:14:56.40 60 calories but when it is fried, it's now 00:14:56.43\00:14:59.40 a calorie dense food because of the oil 00:14:59.43\00:15:01.58 that's been absorbed in that food. That's why 00:15:02.30\00:15:04.77 the Bible in the King James version no where 00:15:04.80\00:15:08.20 has the word fried or frying found in God's word, 00:15:08.23\00:15:12.25 so therefore its not only what we eat and we base 00:15:12.75\00:15:15.29 that on Genesis 1:29 and Genesis 3:18, but also 00:15:15.32\00:15:18.63 how the food is prepared determines whether or 00:15:18.66\00:15:22.26 not that food is going to be fattening, 00:15:22.29\00:15:23.66 whether it can enlarge those fat cells. 00:15:23.76\00:15:26.55 So calorie dense foods, so again, 00:15:26.58\00:15:28.23 what we want to do is switch from those foods to 00:15:28.66\00:15:31.65 light calorie foods, therefore 00:15:32.37\00:15:35.30 when the main components of plant based diet is 00:15:35.33\00:15:38.87 the lot of water content, water has volume. Yes. 00:15:38.90\00:15:43.24 Therefore we can eat more of those foods 00:15:43.27\00:15:45.72 with less calories, because 00:15:45.80\00:15:48.27 water doesn't have any calories. 00:15:48.30\00:15:50.34 Now you're talking about the fruit and vegetables. 00:15:50.37\00:15:51.78 Exactly. Yes. That's why we want to shift from 00:15:51.81\00:15:54.22 the calorie dense foods to those foods that are 00:15:54.85\00:15:57.81 plant based has a lot of water content, 00:15:57.84\00:16:00.49 it has the volume so you have the sense of 00:16:00.52\00:16:03.27 fullness, satiety mechanism is completed 00:16:03.30\00:16:06.69 but yet still the calories are not high 00:16:06.72\00:16:09.11 at all, that's what we want to do. 00:16:09.14\00:16:10.92 You know I think that the thing that's so amazing 00:16:10.95\00:16:12.53 was that the new dietary guidelines when it came out 00:16:12.56\00:16:15.12 it actually addressed the whole issue. 00:16:15.15\00:16:17.56 That's true, of food, but something 00:16:17.59\00:16:19.31 happened this time. Yes. Not only did 00:16:19.34\00:16:21.17 it talk about the foods that we should have 00:16:21.20\00:16:23.35 according to the pyramid chart, it also talked about 00:16:23.38\00:16:25.84 exercise now nowhere have they ever put 00:16:25.87\00:16:27.85 the food and exercise together. 00:16:27.88\00:16:29.48 It's the first time happening. 00:16:29.51\00:16:30.88 And that's because of the problem in America 00:16:30.91\00:16:32.51 of the obesity factor, and they even say the word 00:16:32.54\00:16:35.40 morbid obesity factor which means we used to 00:16:35.43\00:16:37.48 have a problem with the weight then the obesity 00:16:37.51\00:16:39.90 and now morbid obesity which means that 00:16:39.93\00:16:41.31 we are way out of line when it comes to our diet 00:16:41.34\00:16:44.52 and exercise and of course we used to exercise a lot 00:16:44.55\00:16:46.73 before in the past and so you could eat more 00:16:46.76\00:16:48.90 and of course the exercise kind of helps to 00:16:48.93\00:16:51.46 balance it out. But we now just kind of sit 00:16:51.49\00:16:53.97 around you know we got the buttons we're pushing 00:16:54.00\00:16:56.09 you know, we were fighting somebody in front of 00:16:56.12\00:16:58.25 the parking lot to get to the store faster 00:16:58.28\00:17:01.04 you know I was there first, it's just a lot of things 00:17:01.07\00:17:03.30 going on. Yes. But dietary guidelines 00:17:03.33\00:17:05.53 this time came out and was speaking about 00:17:05.56\00:17:07.64 they wanted us to look at the foods, the fats, 00:17:07.67\00:17:11.92 trans fats, they want out. Okay. Alright, that's, 00:17:12.27\00:17:15.36 we will talk about that when we go into the kitchen. 00:17:15.39\00:17:17.40 Okay. Trans fat go low in cholesterol okay, 00:17:17.43\00:17:20.67 but there was something strange this time 00:17:20.70\00:17:22.18 that was really wonderful it was almost like 00:17:22.21\00:17:24.23 somebody was reading the word of God 00:17:24.26\00:17:25.63 because they actually talked about 00:17:25.66\00:17:27.36 more of the plant based diet. 00:17:27.39\00:17:30.41 That's true. They said nine servings, 00:17:30.98\00:17:33.59 nine servings, that's four servings of 00:17:34.13\00:17:36.92 fruits and five servings of vegetables alright 00:17:36.95\00:17:40.83 and you know once before on Abundant 00:17:40.86\00:17:42.23 Living we spoke about what's a serving, 00:17:42.26\00:17:44.33 half a cup of fruit or vegetable is consider as 00:17:44.63\00:17:48.15 a serving because it's more dense, 00:17:48.30\00:17:50.54 its been cooked. That's right. 00:17:50.57\00:17:51.94 And then a fresh, then we are talking about one cup 00:17:51.97\00:17:54.24 and so with that in mind you have to kind of 00:17:54.27\00:17:57.46 juggle those out to know when you meet that nine 00:17:57.49\00:18:01.06 servings size okay, now that's separate from 00:18:01.09\00:18:04.65 the grain and cereal kingdom, away with all that white rice 00:18:04.68\00:18:08.10 that white flour, pastry flour, 00:18:08.13\00:18:10.50 whole wheat flour is the way to go, 00:18:10.53\00:18:12.18 brown rice is the way to go, 00:18:12.21\00:18:14.07 brown whole wheat bread is the way to go, 00:18:14.10\00:18:16.34 those whole grains, that was really being 00:18:16.61\00:18:19.09 pushed a lot this time as well and then also 00:18:19.12\00:18:21.34 that sodium level, lowering the sodium level, 00:18:21.37\00:18:24.03 getting that sodium level down no more than 00:18:24.40\00:18:26.23 one teaspoon. And that's the entire day, okay, 00:18:26.26\00:18:28.51 one teaspoon, so when you look at your sodium 00:18:28.54\00:18:30.19 we talked about that before, 00:18:30.22\00:18:31.65 sodium levels we said one gram is equal to 1000 mg 00:18:32.89\00:18:37.93 and every time you look at salt, 00:18:37.96\00:18:39.46 an item that has salt, you will always see in 00:18:39.49\00:18:41.24 milligram amounts and so you want to curb that, 00:18:41.27\00:18:42.86 since you're salt sensitive, 00:18:42.89\00:18:44.26 so that's an issue as well. And so with that in mind 00:18:44.29\00:18:46.62 it also talked about exercise and exercise 00:18:46.65\00:18:49.52 we are going to be holding on to that 00:18:49.55\00:18:50.92 until we get to the program, 00:18:50.95\00:18:52.32 its going to be talking about and I am sure 00:18:52.35\00:18:53.72 we are going to get on that program 00:18:53.75\00:18:55.12 as well exercise, 'cause that's the next 00:18:55.15\00:18:56.52 component as well. That right, okay. 00:18:56.55\00:18:57.92 Well, I guess one of the things I was thinking 00:18:58.41\00:18:59.95 about was people like that high fat. 00:18:59.98\00:19:02.37 They do. And high sugar. 00:19:02.40\00:19:04.01 They do. And so how can they make a change. 00:19:04.04\00:19:06.09 Well you know again sometimes peoples taste 00:19:06.12\00:19:10.22 buds have been so perverted over 00:19:10.25\00:19:12.08 the years because we, lot of people like 00:19:12.11\00:19:14.69 the salty foods, the sugary foods, 00:19:15.30\00:19:17.06 the high fats foods, when we were born 00:19:17.09\00:19:20.05 outside the sense of pain, taste is the sense that's 00:19:20.51\00:19:25.48 most fully developed, this sense of taste, 00:19:25.51\00:19:29.50 we have 9000 taste buds on our tongue, 00:19:30.25\00:19:34.42 they die and regenerate every 10 to 14 days. 00:19:35.01\00:19:38.86 Lets go to our last graph and lets look at 00:19:38.89\00:19:41.44 the taste buds on your tongue, let's talk about 00:19:41.47\00:19:44.56 this because we can simply change 00:19:44.59\00:19:47.66 our taste buds, now you see those projections 00:19:47.78\00:19:49.92 there, those are what we call papillae and 00:19:49.95\00:19:52.71 at the tip of those projections there, 00:19:52.74\00:19:55.19 in the back there you have taste buds, 00:19:55.55\00:19:57.94 it seems like they had a bad hair day, 00:19:57.97\00:20:00.36 those are taste receptors and so therefore sometimes 00:20:00.68\00:20:05.03 those taste receptors that you see there, 00:20:05.06\00:20:07.32 some look like mushrooms, some look like small 00:20:07.35\00:20:09.94 volcanoes, there taste buds sometimes been 00:20:09.97\00:20:14.76 perverted over the years and we simply need to 00:20:14.79\00:20:17.48 retrain those taste buds. Thank you for that graphic, 00:20:17.51\00:20:20.45 so what we need to do is to shift and those 00:20:20.48\00:20:24.35 high fat foods, high sugar foods, keep in mind 00:20:24.38\00:20:27.72 those taste buds can be retrained about every 00:20:28.24\00:20:32.37 two weeks, so in time we can change the way 00:20:32.40\00:20:34.98 we taste foods, so in time we don't like the high salty 00:20:35.01\00:20:39.62 high sugary foods because the taste buds 00:20:39.65\00:20:41.54 have be retrained. So again folks, 00:20:41.57\00:20:43.93 but again our last challenge, 00:20:43.96\00:20:45.72 we are going to leave with you in this part of 00:20:45.75\00:20:48.05 the program is kitchen CLOSED at 6 alright. 00:20:48.08\00:20:53.78 Well, our kitchen is open right now 00:20:53.81\00:20:55.18 because we're getting ready to do, 00:20:55.21\00:20:56.58 as we are going into the kitchen and 00:20:56.61\00:20:57.98 we are going to make a Mediterranean vegetable. 00:20:58.01\00:21:00.72 So lets just get your paper and pencil and stay by. 00:21:00.75\00:21:04.76
