A question was asked to women over 75 years of 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.06 age and it's sobering answer was given in return. 00:00:04.12\00:00:07.37 Here is the question, would you rather die or 00:00:07.88\00:00:11.77 break a hip and be admitted to a nursing home? 00:00:12.45\00:00:14.84 The sobering answer over 80 percent of the women 00:00:15.64\00:00:18.14 said they would rather die. Today's program is 00:00:18.31\00:00:21.74 entitled "Building Better Bones Part 1," so stay by. 00:00:21.84\00:00:26.03 Hi, welcome to Abundant Living glad you 00:00:56.01\00:00:58.20 allowed us to come in to your living room again 00:00:58.29\00:01:00.03 once more. My name is Curtis Eakins and I like to 00:01:00.09\00:01:02.71 introduce my wife, my beautiful bride of 12 00:01:02.86\00:01:05.54 glorious years, Paula Eakins. How are you doing today 00:01:05.57\00:01:07.93 honey? I'm doing wonderful. Okay, you're 00:01:08.30\00:01:09.67 looking pretty good too. Thank you. I like you 00:01:09.70\00:01:11.37 hairstyle by the way, thank you, yes you are 00:01:11.47\00:01:13.08 welcome. Praise the Lord. You made some 00:01:13.29\00:01:15.31 statements at opening. Yeah, the opening 00:01:15.34\00:01:17.25 statement, about woman would rather die than 00:01:17.45\00:01:21.98 have hip fractures, that's right, that's heavy. 00:01:22.23\00:01:24.30 Yeah, that's heavy again let me reemphasis that 00:01:24.41\00:01:27.00 they asked several hundred women over the age 00:01:27.47\00:01:29.95 of 75 that question. Would you rather die or 00:01:29.99\00:01:34.10 break a hip and be admitted to a nursing home 00:01:35.02\00:01:37.72 in over 70, over 80 percent of people who were 00:01:37.94\00:01:41.16 asked that question said they would rather die. 00:01:41.44\00:01:44.64 And again this is a debilitating disease, 00:01:45.45\00:01:48.46 right and over 66 percent of the people, 00:01:48.49\00:01:51.45 who break a hip lose their independence. 00:01:51.93\00:01:54.99 So, because of that most women in that group 00:01:55.12\00:01:58.03 said we rather die, it's a sad thing but we're 00:01:58.16\00:02:02.23 going to explore this topic of osteoporosis 00:02:02.26\00:02:05.32 Building Better Bones so for the next two weeks 00:02:05.60\00:02:08.10 we're going to also explore how to increase the 00:02:08.21\00:02:11.50 bone density, bone mass so that we don't have 00:02:11.60\00:02:14.07 to break our hip, spine or wrist or forearm etcetera. 00:02:14.10\00:02:17.31 So, it's epidemic. Why don't you then define 00:02:17.62\00:02:19.82 for us the definition of osteoporosis and then how 00:02:19.85\00:02:22.63 would they test it, how will we test to find out 00:02:22.73\00:02:25.15 whether we have it or not? Okay, let's talk about 00:02:25.19\00:02:27.78 the bone itself, now lot of people may think that 00:02:28.11\00:02:30.66 the bone is a dead tissue okay. Bones are alive 00:02:31.08\00:02:35.22 and they demand a lot of things to make them 00:02:35.92\00:02:38.77 more dense, bones contain about 30 percent of 00:02:39.01\00:02:42.05 water is bone, a bone matrix. Now, there is two 00:02:42.16\00:02:45.61 terms I want to explain before we're going to 00:02:45.77\00:02:48.16 the bone, the definition and also the testing as well. 00:02:48.27\00:02:51.01 First of all, we have we called bone cells called 00:02:51.91\00:02:54.02 osteocytes, okay now there are two types. 00:02:54.23\00:02:56.97 We have osteoblasts and we have osteoblasts. 00:02:57.75\00:03:03.35 Now osteoblasts are cells that build up the bone, 00:03:04.19\00:03:09.52 B for bone, building up osteoblast it builds bone, 00:03:10.20\00:03:13.25 okay. Cells called osteoclast C for chewing up, 00:03:13.32\00:03:17.08 they chew a bone. So, we have osteoblast it 00:03:17.17\00:03:19.50 builds up the bone, osteoclast it builds down the 00:03:19.72\00:03:22.49 bone. So, this is called bone remodeling and this 00:03:22.68\00:03:25.79 happens throughout our course of living, 00:03:25.82\00:03:28.31 there by the bone builds-up and then they 00:03:28.94\00:03:31.56 tear down, build-up and tear down. This is bone 00:03:31.59\00:03:34.77 remodeling, okay. Now our peak bone mass reaches 00:03:34.94\00:03:38.99 about the age of 30. Therefore, having said 00:03:39.13\00:03:42.33 that let's go to our graph and let's explain this more 00:03:42.47\00:03:45.17 in detail by this graphic. Now, you see here that 00:03:45.22\00:03:49.75 again at the age of about 30, we have peak bone 00:03:49.87\00:03:54.55 mass thereby you want to make sure that it's 00:03:54.96\00:03:57.81 more like a RA account, the more you have in 00:03:57.94\00:04:00.48 your RA account then the more you have to 00:04:00.53\00:04:03.83 live in your bone mass until end of your life. 00:04:04.15\00:04:06.82 So, we have a lot of bone mass built up at 00:04:07.19\00:04:09.20 age of 30 that you can coast longer as you grow 00:04:09.35\00:04:12.80 outgrow close to the closing years of ones life. 00:04:13.10\00:04:15.96 Now, after the age of 30, we began to lose as 00:04:16.71\00:04:20.28 you see this graphic here lose more bone than 00:04:20.31\00:04:24.06 we build-up. So, now the line is going down after 00:04:24.17\00:04:27.04 the age of 30 and therefore that's why we have 00:04:27.07\00:04:30.85 people who have osteoporosis or even low 00:04:31.47\00:04:34.14 bone mass. Now, you look at this chart here this 00:04:34.25\00:04:37.71 is a test, this is called the Dexa scan, Dexa 00:04:37.98\00:04:43.69 scan it's stand for Dual energy X-ray 00:04:43.90\00:04:46.87 absorptometry and this is the main goal standard 00:04:47.39\00:04:51.59 to test bone matrix, bone mass, there by it will 00:04:51.99\00:04:56.03 give you a number and this is a "T" number. 00:04:56.08\00:04:58.36 Now you look closely as this graphic here. 00:04:58.78\00:05:00.75 A minus 1 down to a minus 2.5 in that area there 00:05:01.52\00:05:07.21 we called that low bone mass. You don't have 00:05:07.53\00:05:11.18 osteoporosis just low bone mass, now below the 00:05:11.28\00:05:14.68 red line this is below 2.5, minus 2.5 and below 00:05:14.79\00:05:20.34 we call that a person having osteoporosis, okay. 00:05:21.10\00:05:24.82 In that low bone mass and osteoporosis, 00:05:25.04\00:05:27.83 we have 44 million people who fall in that category. 00:05:27.90\00:05:31.04 So, again this is T- Score and this could be done 00:05:31.51\00:05:34.19 at any doctors' office and again thank you 00:05:34.30\00:05:36.71 Amanda for that graphic, they will measure the 00:05:36.78\00:05:40.17 bone mass in the hip, the spine, and the wrist 00:05:40.24\00:05:45.31 those three areas. So, again we need to have that 00:05:46.08\00:05:48.18 T- Scale a measure, so we know where we stand 00:05:49.46\00:05:51.67 because remember now, you know, hypertension 00:05:51.81\00:05:54.91 is called the "silent killer" right. Osteoporosis is 00:05:55.08\00:05:59.42 called "the silent disease" because bone is being 00:05:59.48\00:06:04.21 snatched or the bone matrix the calcium is being 00:06:04.48\00:06:06.48 snatched from our bones and we don't even 00:06:06.68\00:06:09.33 know it, it's the silent disease. So, we need to 00:06:09.37\00:06:12.79 do that and you have, your bone mass check 00:06:12.86\00:06:15.09 sometime ago didn't you honey? Well, I was very 00:06:15.22\00:06:17.16 surprised as the matter of fact, they were doing some 00:06:17.27\00:06:19.39 testing and I had an opportunity to go and have 00:06:19.59\00:06:21.98 the test done, they did on my foot, they actually 00:06:22.16\00:06:24.03 did on my foot into a machine and tested out 00:06:24.11\00:06:27.81 and I was like one of those praise the Lord because 00:06:28.10\00:06:30.20 when he finished with the bone mass they said 00:06:30.23\00:06:32.13 that my bone density was that of a 22-year-old 00:06:32.21\00:06:36.08 women. 22-year-old, I'm like go Jesus go Jesus 00:06:36.32\00:06:40.37 go, okay now let's explain it that now you have 00:06:40.47\00:06:43.45 a bone mass of a 22-year-old yes, so now 00:06:43.48\00:06:46.08 probably people need to know your age so they 00:06:47.06\00:06:48.62 can see how that is impact on your bone mass 00:06:48.75\00:06:53.33 because. Let's say if you're 23 then that's not 00:06:53.67\00:06:56.73 much over significant change there, 00:06:57.08\00:06:59.40 but maybe you wanna explore that or share with 00:06:59.74\00:07:01.90 the people your age and then they can get a 00:07:01.93\00:07:03.62 idea of your bone mass and how important that is. 00:07:03.72\00:07:08.76 So, he is trying to get me tell my age, now I'm just 00:07:08.86\00:07:11.03 trying to emphasize for the TV audience. 00:07:11.22\00:07:14.12 Let me just say this because of the fact that 00:07:14.21\00:07:15.58 I'm involved in a lot of strength exercises and 00:07:15.71\00:07:18.22 walking then of course the more walking and 00:07:18.45\00:07:21.17 exercise you're involved in then you actually, 00:07:21.22\00:07:23.64 your chronological age and your physical age are 00:07:23.68\00:07:26.09 different, so for all the women out there you know 00:07:26.26\00:07:28.48 I'm not gonna go there with the age thing you 00:07:28.74\00:07:30.11 understand very well, Mary what I'm saying so. 00:07:30.21\00:07:32.79 We will move on to the next subject as to why is 00:07:33.18\00:07:35.14 it that there a women who actually get osteoporosis, 00:07:35.30\00:07:38.66 okay. And the reason for that is that well yes okay, 00:07:38.95\00:07:44.05 okay we're going to next one. Now, osteoporosis, 00:07:44.46\00:07:47.52 one of the things that happens is that we have 00:07:47.96\00:07:49.33 talked before on our program, about menopause 00:07:49.65\00:07:51.33 women and going to menopause, we talked about 00:07:51.44\00:07:53.36 pre-menopause, we talked about post-menopause and 00:07:53.44\00:07:56.09 the women who are sitting right smack out in 00:07:56.20\00:07:57.57 the middle and if you recall those programs of course 00:07:57.63\00:08:00.08 if you don't have then you can always check with 00:08:00.11\00:08:01.74 3ABN we did a our whole series or all these programs 00:08:01.87\00:08:05.79 talking about menopause and osteo-menopause 00:08:05.87\00:08:09.04 and heart disease menopause and cancer, 00:08:09.14\00:08:11.28 menopause and diabetes, menopause and weight 00:08:11.43\00:08:13.56 management. All which relating to women and 00:08:13.70\00:08:15.75 your health, but about 40 percent Curtis of the 00:08:15.90\00:08:18.61 women who are in menopause okay actually have 00:08:18.87\00:08:23.36 a problem because whether it's surgical or 00:08:23.39\00:08:26.19 natural menopause they are going through. 00:08:26.37\00:08:28.90 Okay, they can actually lose that bone density 00:08:28.98\00:08:31.26 mainly because of the ovarian function and also 00:08:31.61\00:08:35.68 poor diet. Ovarian function basically talked about now 00:08:35.99\00:08:39.36 because of the hormonal levels of the Estrogen, 00:08:39.41\00:08:41.91 Progesterone, and Testosterone levels change up 00:08:42.08\00:08:45.33 as a woman begins to move into the menopausal age 00:08:45.53\00:08:49.09 and also after postmenopausal. Then she is 00:08:49.19\00:08:52.01 really having a issue or problem her body with the 00:08:52.06\00:08:54.77 bone matrix alright okay as a matter of fact is 00:08:54.86\00:08:57.16 been said that a quite of bit within that first five 00:08:57.20\00:09:00.24 years after menopause, postmenopausal is when she 00:09:00.32\00:09:03.48 will lose most of her bone matrix and that's because 00:09:03.51\00:09:05.83 of the hormonal imbalance specifically Estrogen 00:09:05.96\00:09:09.14 alright. Okay, so when you think of it that way 00:09:11.71\00:09:13.08 that bone loss is gonna be of course as you 00:09:13.11\00:09:14.48 mentioned earlier the hip, the vertebrae, and also the 00:09:14.51\00:09:17.72 wrist. Okay, now again let's explain on that because 00:09:17.84\00:09:21.23 again postmenopausal, so now the average age 00:09:21.26\00:09:24.05 for women going to menopause I believe this was 00:09:24.08\00:09:26.23 51 years, that's average age they can be prior to 00:09:26.48\00:09:29.59 that or even after that, alright. You know, we had 00:09:29.77\00:09:31.67 talked before on a program about the fact that 00:09:31.79\00:09:33.61 really and truly even a women in her later part 00:09:34.10\00:09:36.12 of 30s is the first time we want her take a first 00:09:36.16\00:09:38.52 Estrogen test and even a bone density she can, 00:09:38.60\00:09:41.90 but usually we use it to bone density later in her 00:09:42.30\00:09:44.79 life like when she is in her 50's alright, okay. 00:09:44.88\00:09:47.22 But that's first part around the 30's the reason 00:09:47.25\00:09:49.71 for that is that in your 30's even though you are 00:09:49.84\00:09:52.44 not menopausal we want to get that Estrogen, 00:09:52.54\00:09:54.96 Progesterone, Testosterone level, so that when 00:09:55.16\00:09:58.16 you begin to move to the area of your 40's then we 00:09:58.23\00:10:01.22 have a thing called pre, pre-menopausal. 00:10:01.25\00:10:04.26 Pre-menopausal also means in those 40's now 45 up, 00:10:04.80\00:10:08.47 a woman could begin to experience problems with 00:10:08.93\00:10:11.34 her bones and also with her Estrogen level in her 40's 00:10:11.37\00:10:15.62 late 40's. Okay, so rather than wait and think that 00:10:15.85\00:10:18.00 you already 51 that's when I'm gonna get it, 00:10:18.04\00:10:20.27 alright you wanna get the scores. So, you got it in 00:10:20.54\00:10:22.17 your 30s you do it in your 40's or later 40's and 00:10:22.27\00:10:25.10 then you know where you stand automatically. 00:10:25.16\00:10:26.92 And know what the protocol is gonna be, I remember 00:10:27.11\00:10:29.19 also that we talked about the fact that a women 00:10:29.28\00:10:31.83 can also go through surgical menopause, okay, 00:10:32.28\00:10:34.87 a surgical menopause means removal of the ovaries 00:10:34.90\00:10:37.07 or removal of the uterus also mean she might 00:10:37.10\00:10:40.67 have breast cancer all these things cause a problem 00:10:40.82\00:10:44.05 whether it's through chemotherapy or taking 00:10:44.15\00:10:47.04 some type of medication. Because of the deficiency 00:10:47.13\00:10:49.60 or the problem going on that would set her 00:10:49.71\00:10:51.65 automatically into menopause, so sometime 00:10:51.87\00:10:54.10 women think that I have got to be older, 00:10:54.15\00:10:55.73 but I was surprised when I did my program how many 00:10:55.82\00:10:58.45 women in their 30's, the early 30's and even, 00:10:58.52\00:11:01.32 I even met women in their 20's, who had already 00:11:01.47\00:11:04.41 had hysterectomies done for one reason or not 00:11:04.59\00:11:07.55 so therefore they were already menopausal. 00:11:07.67\00:11:09.87 Okay, so again to sum up Estrogen seem to me a 00:11:09.93\00:11:13.53 protector, absolutely and then once a women go 00:11:13.85\00:11:16.19 through menopause of course ovaries no longer 00:11:16.48\00:11:17.92 produce an Estrogen or the size two, right and 00:11:18.07\00:11:20.26 therefore the bone matrix began to decrease gradually. 00:11:20.39\00:11:23.96 Let's go back to that first graphic Amanda, let's also 00:11:24.10\00:11:27.05 explain on that because if you look at that 00:11:27.20\00:11:28.88 graphic there look at the 50 year mark there 00:11:28.95\00:11:32.19 that's where that line begins to drop drastically 00:11:32.70\00:11:36.03 yes at the age of 50. And keep ongoing to the age 00:11:36.36\00:11:39.29 of 70, so in that mark there that will allowed span 00:11:39.34\00:11:42.15 there at the age 50 is where that line goes, 00:11:42.27\00:11:44.91 goes below the yellow line at the age of 50. 00:11:45.31\00:11:48.02 And that's where most people or most women go into 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.99 to menopause, so they lose up to a 50 percent 00:11:51.02\00:11:53.30 I heard 30/5 percent of their bone mass in the first 5 00:11:53.42\00:11:56.39 years, first 5 years after menopause right, thank you 00:11:56.49\00:11:58.73 Amanda for that graphic. I also want to 00:11:58.81\00:12:00.91 clarify to that, that you talked about the 30 years 00:12:01.25\00:12:03.89 of age where the bones are building up and 00:12:04.11\00:12:06.30 building that reservoir for later, okay and the 00:12:06.41\00:12:08.46 blessing is that we're gonna talk about that in 00:12:08.64\00:12:11.03 the other part of our program when we get to 00:12:11.09\00:12:12.69 the third portion of this program okay and that 00:12:13.13\00:12:15.89 is that the matrix was not so much to me building 00:12:15.96\00:12:19.54 up to the age of the 30. Because I didn't have 00:12:19.82\00:12:21.65 all these information about health right and 00:12:21.73\00:12:23.53 lifestyle in my 20's or in my 30's, so as a result of 00:12:23.66\00:12:28.47 that I learned that eating right which is the other 00:12:28.61\00:12:31.85 component, eating properly and also exercise, 00:12:31.95\00:12:35.06 actually keeps the bone matrix and it can rebuild 00:12:35.49\00:12:39.30 because of that. Praise the Lord alright; praise the 00:12:39.90\00:12:41.85 Lord okay good thing. We're gonna comeback to that 00:12:41.96\00:12:44.33 because how we can also supply Estrogen to 00:12:44.47\00:12:47.91 the system from the plant based source therefore 00:12:48.23\00:12:51.61 protect our bone matrix. I got a question for 00:12:51.68\00:12:53.66 you, okay we see all the time on TV, these 00:12:53.76\00:12:56.46 mustaches, mustache, everybody wear an 00:12:56.49\00:12:58.36 mustache, I got one now, which you know I'm 00:12:58.43\00:13:00.14 talking about the white mustache because of 00:13:00.40\00:13:02.30 this milk issue, because of the gray hair, and also the 00:13:02.33\00:13:04.91 newest thing is gonna right now is that you've got 00:13:05.05\00:13:07.17 milk try to comeback into play because you know 00:13:07.61\00:13:09.34 for a while there, they were trying to say 00:13:09.41\00:13:11.47 let's calm down in a whole milk, the skin milk 2 00:13:12.25\00:13:14.82 percent milk. And now all of a sudden, 00:13:14.86\00:13:16.88 the milk is not doing to well, so now they have 00:13:17.04\00:13:19.63 got all kind actors and singers coming on TV with 00:13:19.72\00:13:22.62 this white mustache, okay, women and man, 00:13:22.65\00:13:25.56 you know, women don't have them, but this is the 00:13:25.69\00:13:27.20 milk, we called them milk, okay. Milk rings on their 00:13:27.35\00:13:30.02 lip, the upper lip and so the reason that they are 00:13:30.17\00:13:32.82 trying to push that milk. But we know, wait 00:13:32.97\00:13:35.61 a minute if you said osteoporosis and we're 00:13:35.64\00:13:39.67 talking about basically American women and 00:13:39.74\00:13:41.70 Building Better Bones, Building Better Bones and 00:13:41.89\00:13:43.76 we're supposed to be drinking at least three 00:13:43.84\00:13:45.93 glasses of milk a day. And we probably drink more 00:13:46.04\00:13:48.44 milk then most countries in the world. Then my 00:13:48.56\00:13:50.30 question is, the question is why then is 00:13:50.42\00:13:52.78 osteoporosis so high in the American population? 00:13:52.88\00:13:56.63 That's a good question, maybe a man in our 00:13:56.85\00:13:58.89 camera crew can answer that question, 00:13:58.96\00:14:00.77 why don't you answer that question or may be 00:14:01.19\00:14:02.56 I can answer it, I did ask you; okay yeah you 00:14:02.59\00:14:03.96 did ask me yeah okay. Cow's milk, 00:14:03.99\00:14:05.92 cows milk now folks... Women if you want to 00:14:06.00\00:14:09.14 have brittle bones, if you want to have brittle 00:14:09.37\00:14:12.69 bones. One of the best things you can do is to 00:14:12.97\00:14:15.58 drink as much cow's milk as you possibly can. 00:14:15.78\00:14:20.49 Now, I wanna let you stew in that for a little while, 00:14:21.14\00:14:22.82 let me explain that statement. Now, first of all 00:14:22.89\00:14:25.61 we're not designed to drink cow's milk by nature 00:14:26.57\00:14:30.10 now we did a program some years ago entitled 00:14:30.37\00:14:32.37 "Not Milk" we wanna cover some of that in this 00:14:32.79\00:14:34.92 program, but not everything by the way, first 00:14:35.07\00:14:38.03 of all we are the only species on earth that 00:14:38.06\00:14:42.71 drinks another species milk. Animals don't do 00:14:42.93\00:14:47.08 that, as the matter of fact a baby calf was stop 00:14:47.37\00:14:50.33 drinking a cow's milk at the age of 6 months alright. 00:14:50.47\00:14:53.78 But we keep drinking the cow's milk until the day 00:14:54.12\00:14:56.01 we die, number 2 cows' milk even though cow's 00:14:56.06\00:15:00.09 milk has calcium. It also has something else 00:15:00.21\00:15:03.39 that will cancel out the calcium and that is animal 00:15:03.60\00:15:07.80 protein for every gram of animal protein we take 00:15:08.24\00:15:12.10 into our system we excrete out into our urine one 00:15:12.26\00:15:16.71 Milligram of calcium. Therefore any animal protein 00:15:16.79\00:15:20.09 be a milk, eggs, cheese, butter, yogurt, beef, 00:15:20.21\00:15:23.42 chicken, pork, lamb. any animal protein we lose 00:15:23.73\00:15:27.30 one milligram of calcium in our urine, so the more 00:15:27.46\00:15:31.10 animal protein we take in, we actually as one 00:15:31.32\00:15:34.04 person says we simply pee out our bones, mercy, 00:15:34.25\00:15:37.64 alright. therefore, because milk although has 00:15:37.67\00:15:40.07 calcium it has animal protein. now there has been, 00:15:40.23\00:15:42.99 I wanna use the statement that my mother 00:15:43.12\00:15:44.49 used to say years ago. There are oodles and 00:15:44.69\00:15:47.81 oodles of clinical studies on this as well. 00:15:48.02\00:15:50.98 American journal clinical nutrition, they did a study 00:15:51.42\00:15:53.50 of 44,000 women from Aiwa and they chart them 00:15:53.65\00:15:57.67 over 12 year span and they had 44 cases of 00:15:57.81\00:16:02.43 those in that group, who had broke a hip. 00:16:02.59\00:16:04.91 They discovered that those who broke a hip had 00:16:05.72\00:16:08.35 a higher ratio of lower ratio of calcium to animal 00:16:08.56\00:16:14.22 protein, okay. in other words it's not just a calcium 00:16:14.35\00:16:16.75 issue it's also animal protein issue. The more 00:16:16.85\00:16:20.01 animal protein they had in their urine and in their 00:16:20.23\00:16:22.96 blood, they are more likely to have a broken hip. 00:16:23.07\00:16:26.66 Those who did not experience any hip fractures 00:16:27.25\00:16:29.15 had a lower protein ratio and a lower... or a 00:16:29.43\00:16:33.40 higher calcium ratio. So, again is more less the 00:16:33.59\00:16:37.20 higher to calcium, the lower the protein ratio 00:16:37.44\00:16:40.53 the better of you'll be. Alright, so there is also 00:16:40.91\00:16:43.51 another clinical study of people who drink one 00:16:43.71\00:16:48.09 or less glass of milk per week had a lower rate 00:16:48.64\00:16:53.32 of hip fractures, fractures of the spine and a 00:16:53.47\00:16:56.77 wrist. those who drink two or more glasses of 00:16:56.91\00:17:00.12 milk per day had more fractures of the hip, spine, 00:17:00.20\00:17:05.57 and wrist. That was found in American journal of 00:17:06.01\00:17:08.52 public health. So, there are a lot of studies 00:17:08.55\00:17:11.16 exemplifying that, so again milk is not the thing we wanna 00:17:12.10\00:17:15.38 do as far as building bone matrix. We're gonna 00:17:15.60\00:17:18.19 talk more about that when we go into our 00:17:18.34\00:17:19.79 next program, next week and the week after 00:17:19.92\00:17:21.56 that as well, so again we need to shift from animal 00:17:21.63\00:17:25.69 protein to plant protein because guess what folks? 00:17:25.83\00:17:29.06 When we take in plant protein guess what? 00:17:29.52\00:17:32.24 We keep the calcium that we eat in our foods 00:17:32.84\00:17:35.26 alright so again as the statement goes. We're not 00:17:35.79\00:17:38.47 so much, we're not what we eat, we are what we 00:17:38.54\00:17:41.99 absorb, mercy. Because we only absorb about 30 00:17:42.14\00:17:45.60 percent of the calcium in the cow's milk, but there 00:17:45.64\00:17:48.68 was other foods we are talk about next week 00:17:48.71\00:17:50.11 where it's rich in calcium and when we get that 00:17:50.24\00:17:52.63 calcium into our bodies we keep it, that's the key. 00:17:52.66\00:17:55.65 Well, know what about caffeine because we hear 00:17:56.62\00:17:59.77 lot about that as well yeah caffeine, caffeine and 00:17:59.83\00:18:02.77 sodium as well. The more sodium we take in, okay, 00:18:02.90\00:18:06.49 the more calcium we take in, the more, 00:18:06.86\00:18:09.79 excuse me let's say it over again, the more sodium 00:18:10.81\00:18:13.68 we take into our system, okay, okay. The more 00:18:13.75\00:18:16.10 caffeine we take into our system, the more calcium 00:18:16.19\00:18:20.09 we lose from our bones and it's excreted out into the 00:18:20.25\00:18:24.01 urine. So, again calcium is excreted out when we 00:18:24.08\00:18:28.07 take in caffeinated drinks, soft drinks and also a 00:18:28.20\00:18:32.03 high sodium diet alright. Every 2300 milligrams 00:18:32.06\00:18:36.00 of sodium, we lose 60 milligrams of calcium, 00:18:36.17\00:18:40.08 mercy, see so again we need to be careful of these 00:18:40.22\00:18:43.83 are called these the bone bandits, animal protein 00:18:44.04\00:18:47.63 in any form milk, chicken, fish, pork, lamb, beef 00:18:48.63\00:18:53.68 etcetera, caffeine, sodas, coffee, sodium also, 00:18:53.79\00:19:01.13 these are bone bandits, we can talk about 00:19:01.40\00:19:03.16 cigarette smoke and alcohol too, so all these are 00:19:03.61\00:19:06.02 bone bandits, they are snatching out the calcium 00:19:06.22\00:19:08.57 from our bones and become weakened and we have 00:19:08.63\00:19:10.92 osteoporosis. Well, I guess we've got quite a 00:19:11.15\00:19:14.92 bit we're gonna be covering on each programs 00:19:15.00\00:19:16.45 and this next two times we come together and we 00:19:16.62\00:19:19.89 also have, I think just one more graph that we need 00:19:20.01\00:19:23.04 to show before we start talking about going into 00:19:23.07\00:19:24.76 the kitchen right. Yeah, let's look at this last 00:19:24.85\00:19:26.74 graphic here Amanda and this is what happens 00:19:26.77\00:19:28.92 folks we can actually build bone matrix now, 00:19:29.10\00:19:31.40 I don't have to tell you which bone we would 00:19:31.78\00:19:33.40 prefer to have the one on the right or the one 00:19:33.59\00:19:36.39 on the left. Now, of course one on the right is 00:19:36.47\00:19:38.33 a person probably is doing lot of things that we're 00:19:38.40\00:19:41.29 gonna talk about for the next two weeks. 00:19:41.32\00:19:42.91 Not drinking the animal protein or taking any 00:19:43.48\00:19:45.88 animal protein, taking in the plant protein so the 00:19:45.93\00:19:48.87 calcium is kept in our bones. But a person on the 00:19:49.03\00:19:51.65 right there again is osteoporotic bone there, 00:19:51.77\00:19:56.47 is very, it's less dense so of course we're gonna 00:19:56.92\00:19:59.31 have more fractures at a hip, spine, and the wrist. 00:19:59.47\00:20:03.03 So, again but that bone on the right, 00:20:03.33\00:20:05.65 it can be build up again, it doesn't have to be that way, 00:20:06.17\00:20:08.84 we talk about that for the next two programs. 00:20:09.24\00:20:11.08 Okay, well I guess, time to go into the kitchen, 00:20:12.29\00:20:13.88 time to go into the kitchen and now I'm gonna 00:20:13.97\00:20:15.38 be fixing a dish that does not use milk, 00:20:15.58\00:20:19.20 how about that Amen, hallelujah, okay. But I'm 00:20:19.72\00:20:21.44 making or we are going to make a creamy 00:20:21.55\00:20:23.68 strawberry desert get your paper and 00:20:24.13\00:20:26.19 pencil and meet us in the kitchen. 00:20:26.44\00:20:28.15
