That is, that is true. 00:01:14.18\00:01:16.01 That's the word up and the word down, okay. 00:01:16.04\00:01:18.51 For those who may not understand us 00:01:18.54\00:01:20.21 that's the terminology we're using today. 00:01:20.24\00:01:24.60 You mean, now though of course 00:01:24.63\00:01:25.78 we did Alzheimer's in Huntsville, Alabama, 00:01:25.81\00:01:27.74 a seminar there, Seniors Ministry, 00:01:27.77\00:01:31.23 my mom is part of that or she is over there. 00:01:31.26\00:01:33.77 She brought us in and we had 00:01:33.80\00:01:35.09 a good crowd there over I guess 60. 00:01:35.12\00:01:37.58 Yeah. 00:01:37.61\00:01:38.75 I mentioned this before been on 3ABN for many years now 00:01:38.78\00:01:42.94 and taped over I guess some 300 programs. 00:01:42.97\00:01:46.16 The one program that we get the most response, 00:01:46.19\00:01:49.37 the most phone calls, the most emails, 00:01:49.40\00:01:52.79 is Alzheimer's diseases. 00:01:52.82\00:01:54.97 So we did this I guess eight to ten years ago. 00:01:55.00\00:01:58.81 We decided to bring it back, update some information 00:01:58.84\00:02:02.16 and some fresh information as well. 00:02:02.19\00:02:04.55 Some of the information you are gonna see today, 00:02:04.58\00:02:06.55 hear today is gonna be eye opener. 00:02:06.58\00:02:08.33 So I'm gonna tell you right now folks, 00:02:08.36\00:02:09.92 if you're listening I strongly advice you 00:02:09.95\00:02:13.13 to go ahead and get out a paper and a pen. 00:02:13.16\00:02:16.68 You're gonna write some things down. 00:02:16.71\00:02:18.20 This gonna be some eye opening things for us-- 00:02:18.23\00:02:21.41 not just Alzheimer's but dementia in general 00:02:21.44\00:02:24.76 and Alzheimer's in particular. 00:02:24.79\00:02:26.52 So just go and get your pen and paper out now 00:02:26.55\00:02:29.15 because it's gonna be some eye opener 00:02:29.18\00:02:31.09 as far as some possible causes 00:02:31.12\00:02:33.46 of dementia and Alzheimer disease as well. 00:02:33.49\00:02:36.11 Well, you know, they had this book that was there 00:02:36.14\00:02:37.98 and the thing I think that blew my mind 00:02:38.01\00:02:40.20 that was talking about medications. 00:02:40.23\00:02:42.14 And it was talking about the medication side effects, 00:02:42.17\00:02:44.25 that a lot of the medications that people are taking 00:02:44.28\00:02:47.11 and that we were looking at those medications 00:02:47.14\00:02:49.74 and we were seeing certain things 00:02:49.77\00:02:51.23 that was actually in that formula 00:02:51.26\00:02:53.01 that could cause some issues 00:02:53.04\00:02:54.17 with Alzheimer's and also dementia. 00:02:54.20\00:02:55.79 And what brochure is that? 00:02:55.82\00:02:57.22 This is a brochure called the Basic Alzheimer's Diseases 00:02:57.25\00:03:00.46 and that's what Mitchell 00:03:00.49\00:03:01.53 you know who was the person 00:03:01.56\00:03:02.60 who actually did most of our talking. 00:03:02.63\00:03:04.60 Oh, the representative of Alzheimer's Association, yes. 00:03:04.63\00:03:06.94 And so we talked-- we looked at the medications 00:03:06.97\00:03:09.50 and we also did the drug side effects 00:03:09.53\00:03:11.92 and so I thought 00:03:11.95\00:03:13.12 that was kind of really, really, interesting. 00:03:13.15\00:03:15.10 So can you talk a little bit about that? 00:03:15.13\00:03:16.94 Yeah, that was interesting because that's one 00:03:16.97\00:03:18.72 of the latest brochures of Alzheimer's Association, 00:03:18.75\00:03:21.61 talk about the side effects, drugs, medication, 00:03:21.64\00:03:25.08 that causes memory loss and behavioral change. 00:03:25.11\00:03:29.69 The side effects of medication. 00:03:29.72\00:03:32.28 So we're gonna get into that and some other things too. 00:03:32.31\00:03:34.95 And so let's first go to the screen, 00:03:34.98\00:03:37.31 let's look at the Alzheimer's brain at this time. 00:03:37.34\00:03:41.86 And here we have it of course on left side 00:03:41.89\00:03:44.32 you have the healthy brain, 00:03:44.35\00:03:45.71 the Alzheimer's brain based on autopsies is shrunk. 00:03:45.74\00:03:50.45 Shrunken to about 80 percent, sometimes 70 percent. 00:03:50.48\00:03:54.69 You see here the main cortex is smaller 00:03:54.72\00:03:58.43 and hippocampus is smallest way on. 00:03:58.46\00:04:01.98 You see the ventricles 00:04:02.01\00:04:03.34 they enlarge to compensate for that. 00:04:03.37\00:04:05.52 The ventricles are the small openings 00:04:05.55\00:04:07.92 in that brain on the left side. 00:04:07.95\00:04:09.93 So in typical Alzheimer's brain is simply smaller. 00:04:09.96\00:04:16.03 Now having said that, I thank you for that graphic. 00:04:16.06\00:04:18.29 What we want to do, 00:04:18.32\00:04:19.35 we want to set the stage as to why the brain shrinks. 00:04:19.38\00:04:25.49 Wow. Wow. 00:04:25.52\00:04:26.57 Now you mentioned in the brochure 00:04:26.60\00:04:27.88 about lot of side effects of drugs 00:04:27.91\00:04:30.17 and how they cause impermanent, talking of impermanent 00:04:30.20\00:04:33.16 from the American Association of Alzheimer's. 00:04:33.19\00:04:34.85 Yeah. 00:04:34.88\00:04:35.92 And the side effects memory loss as well. 00:04:35.95\00:04:39.37 I'm gonna first talk about the effects of B12. 00:04:39.40\00:04:42.99 Okay. 00:04:43.02\00:04:44.05 It's very important in the body. 00:04:44.08\00:04:45.57 And let's talk about this because we're gonna set 00:04:45.60\00:04:47.24 the stage for how important B12 is 00:04:47.27\00:04:50.30 in relationship to this program. 00:04:50.33\00:04:53.10 B12 is needed for red blood cell development. 00:04:53.13\00:04:57.01 But also is need for the healthy condition 00:04:57.04\00:05:00.99 of the brain and the central nervous system. 00:05:01.02\00:05:05.90 So therefore if there is a deficiency of B12 00:05:05.93\00:05:11.60 then this gonna impact cognitive development 00:05:11.63\00:05:15.17 and impair memory as well. 00:05:15.20\00:05:17.88 Now B12 lot of people, you know, 00:05:17.91\00:05:22.27 what they say is that we are what we eat. 00:05:22.30\00:05:26.79 Well, I'm gonna tweak that a little bit. 00:05:26.82\00:05:29.63 We are what we absorb. 00:05:29.66\00:05:32.72 If we have a deficiency of B12 00:05:32.75\00:05:35.73 number one, it shrinks the brain. 00:05:35.76\00:05:40.34 Those have a deficiency 00:05:40.37\00:05:42.30 their brain shrinks six times more than those 00:05:42.33\00:05:44.79 who don't have the deficiency. 00:05:44.82\00:05:46.17 So B12 is very critical 00:05:46.20\00:05:48.27 as far as cognitive impairment, all right. 00:05:48.30\00:05:52.36 Now sometimes you have B12 deficiency 00:05:52.39\00:05:55.21 and what happens is that you have pernicious anemia 00:05:55.24\00:05:58.40 that causes the intrinsic factor 00:05:58.43\00:06:00.80 in the stomach. 00:06:00.83\00:06:01.94 So we can eat cartons of eggs, pounds of beef, gallons of milk 00:06:01.97\00:06:08.99 and still be deficient of B12 00:06:09.02\00:06:11.48 because the body simply is not absorbing it. 00:06:11.51\00:06:15.43 So we may take supplementation of B12. 00:06:15.46\00:06:18.37 We fear that intrinsic factor in the stomach 00:06:18.40\00:06:20.81 is not gonna be absorbed. 00:06:20.84\00:06:22.32 That's why sometimes those have deficiency 00:06:22.35\00:06:24.71 need to have injections, 00:06:24.74\00:06:26.64 therefore you bypass the stomach 00:06:26.67\00:06:28.80 and go straight to the blood stream. 00:06:28.83\00:06:30.37 So B12 is very important but in particular 00:06:30.40\00:06:34.37 the healthy condition of the brain 00:06:34.40\00:06:37.78 and the central nervous system, B12. 00:06:37.81\00:06:41.13 So when it is deficient then we have memory problems, 00:06:41.16\00:06:44.78 behavioral problems in B12 deficiency. 00:06:44.81\00:06:48.76 So very critical to the body. 00:06:48.79\00:06:51.35 So, okay, we are talking about the causes of Alzheimer's 00:06:51.38\00:06:55.36 and you just hit on a whole thing about B12. 00:06:55.39\00:06:57.47 Right. 00:06:57.50\00:06:58.54 So I'm just trying to figure out 00:06:58.57\00:06:59.96 and I'm sure that audiences is also trying to figure out 00:06:59.99\00:07:02.85 and what does B12 have to do with the Alzheimer's issue. 00:07:02.88\00:07:10.22 I mean, you are saying the cause 00:07:10.25\00:07:12.45 and we are talking about the drug. 00:07:12.48\00:07:14.26 So how does that play a part then? 00:07:14.29\00:07:16.35 What drug? 00:07:16.38\00:07:17.45 Okay, I'm glad you asked that question. 00:07:17.48\00:07:20.01 Because there-- now this you need to write this down 00:07:20.04\00:07:23.78 I hope because this one will be all ill of that an eye opener 00:07:23.81\00:07:29.76 as far as the medication is concerned. 00:07:29.79\00:07:31.48 Number one, there is a group of drugs 00:07:31.51\00:07:34.99 that causes a deficiency of vitamin B12. 00:07:35.02\00:07:41.48 It is conclusive evidence, evidence based. 00:07:41.51\00:07:44.67 Okay. 00:07:44.70\00:07:45.73 Now, have you said that let's go to the screen. 00:07:45.76\00:07:49.87 Antacids and vitamin B12 deficiency. 00:07:53.09\00:07:57.15 This comes from the Journal 00:07:57.18\00:07:58.39 of American Medical Association and says this. 00:07:58.42\00:08:00.82 "Using antacids consistently for two years or more 00:08:00.85\00:08:08.14 was linked to a deficiency of vitamin B12, 00:08:08.17\00:08:11.88 which can have adverse effects for the nervous system." 00:08:11.91\00:08:17.90 A deficiency of B12, taking antacids 00:08:17.93\00:08:23.00 consistently for at least two years or so-- 00:08:23.03\00:08:25.36 thank you for that graphic. 00:08:25.39\00:08:26.46 Now there are two groups of antacids. 00:08:26.49\00:08:30.61 We have the pump inhibitors, which is the Nexium, 00:08:30.64\00:08:35.62 you have the Prevacid, 00:08:35.65\00:08:38.78 you have the Zantac both are pump inhibitors. 00:08:38.81\00:08:44.56 They cause a deficiency in B12. 00:08:44.59\00:08:47.20 Also there is a warning on those 00:08:47.23\00:08:49.07 that also causes fractures of the wrist, 00:08:49.10\00:08:52.29 forearm, hip and spine too, 00:08:52.32\00:08:55.11 FDA warning in addition to B12 deficiency. 00:08:55.14\00:08:58.32 These are the other group of antacids 00:08:58.35\00:09:01.32 we call those histamine H2-receptor. 00:09:01.35\00:09:04.45 Those are your Tagamet, Axid and Pepcid. 00:09:04.48\00:09:09.25 Those are the histamine 2-receptor. 00:09:09.28\00:09:14.19 They too cause a deficiency of B12. 00:09:14.22\00:09:16.69 So both of those groups taken consistently 00:09:16.72\00:09:20.42 can simply shrink the brain 00:09:20.45\00:09:24.34 and causes memory impairment and behavioral changes 00:09:24.37\00:09:29.35 just by taking antacids for a long period of time, 00:09:29.38\00:09:32.71 about two years consistently. 00:09:32.74\00:09:34.94 So that's one area wise. 00:09:34.97\00:09:36.66 You know, one group of drug 00:09:36.69\00:09:37.94 that can cause impairment of our cognitive. 00:09:37.97\00:09:42.88 Okay, so I'm trying to understand this now, 00:09:42.91\00:09:45.45 so you are saying that there is a strong possibility 00:09:45.48\00:09:49.19 that these antacids they-- 00:09:49.22\00:09:53.31 you want to look at that as a possible cause. 00:09:53.34\00:09:54.95 So in other words-- 00:09:54.98\00:09:56.49 It is a cause not possible, yeah it is a cause. 00:09:56.52\00:09:58.75 So I'm kind of saying like you know, 00:09:58.78\00:10:00.61 there is someone their parent or whoever 00:10:00.64\00:10:03.57 they are taking care of has got dementia, Alzheimer 00:10:03.60\00:10:06.77 that they, they might want to look at them. 00:10:06.80\00:10:09.60 Look at the different drugs they are taking 00:10:09.63\00:10:12.12 because this could be a part of some of the things 00:10:12.15\00:10:14.74 they are experiencing has to do with the drugs 00:10:14.77\00:10:17.12 they are taking and so just-- that's, that's heavy. 00:10:17.15\00:10:21.03 Yeah. That's heavy. 00:10:21.06\00:10:22.10 Well, it gets, it gets even worse 00:10:22.13\00:10:24.98 because so it was happenings that 00:10:25.01\00:10:26.98 take an antacid because it keeps-- 00:10:27.01\00:10:28.65 and what happens that 00:10:28.68\00:10:30.02 antacids simply causes malabsorption 00:10:30.05\00:10:35.12 of B12 in the stomach. 00:10:35.15\00:10:37.17 Therefore, no matter what you eat, 00:10:37.20\00:10:39.46 eggs, milk, cheese, pork, taking beef, lamb 00:10:39.49\00:10:42.32 which is B12 in it when goes to the system its not absorbed 00:10:42.35\00:10:46.34 because the antacids stops the absorption of B12 00:10:46.37\00:10:49.59 in food that we eat. 00:10:49.62\00:10:50.66 Okay. 00:10:50.69\00:10:51.72 That's why injections are necessary 00:10:51.75\00:10:54.19 to bypass the stomach so that you get that B12 00:10:54.22\00:10:57.19 if we are deficient because of antacids. 00:10:57.22\00:10:59.68 And lot of people take them 00:10:59.71\00:11:00.75 because they are eating too fast and acid comes up. 00:11:00.78\00:11:03.42 So really slow down what you're eating, 00:11:03.45\00:11:05.90 do not drink with your meal 00:11:05.93\00:11:07.27 because down the acid and therefore 00:11:07.30\00:11:08.81 you don't have to take those antacids on a consistent basis. 00:11:08.84\00:11:11.80 Is there any other drugs then we need to be looking at? 00:11:11.83\00:11:14.37 Well, now there's another drug that cause, 00:11:14.40\00:11:16.80 again a B12 efficiency in the blood stream, all right. 00:11:16.83\00:11:21.90 Now I want you to hold on to your seat for this one, folks. 00:11:21.93\00:11:24.43 Let's go to the screen at this time. 00:11:24.46\00:11:27.58 Metformin and B12 deficiency. 00:11:27.61\00:11:31.39 This is taken from the British Medical Journal. 00:11:31.42\00:11:33.38 Listen to this. 00:11:33.41\00:11:34.52 "Individuals with who are treated 00:11:34.55\00:11:38.07 for long periods of metformin are at risk of developing 00:11:38.10\00:11:44.75 gradually worsening vitamin B12 deficiency." 00:11:44.78\00:11:50.69 Now metformin, those who know about metformin 00:11:50.72\00:11:53.44 this is the first line of drugs for diabetes 00:11:53.47\00:11:58.95 and millions of people taking metformin on as daily basis. 00:11:58.98\00:12:02.86 So this drug also causes B12 deficiency. 00:12:02.89\00:12:07.97 Now you that once you off this drug 00:12:08.00\00:12:10.90 the B12 deficiency gets even worse 00:12:10.93\00:12:13.85 after you finish taking it. 00:12:13.88\00:12:15.45 So therefore, this is another major drug 00:12:15.48\00:12:18.67 that people maybe taking right now 00:12:18.70\00:12:20.70 that causes the B12 deficiency 00:12:20.73\00:12:23.12 plus also has to health or the body 00:12:23.15\00:12:25.71 particularly the brain's central nervous system 00:12:25.74\00:12:28.32 that causes memory loss and behavioral changes. 00:12:28.35\00:12:33.82 But now it gets even worse still. 00:12:33.85\00:12:38.56 Not just an antacid, not just a metformin 00:12:38.59\00:12:42.38 but there's something as well. 00:12:42.41\00:12:44.71 Okay, you know, we didn't know what that one is. 00:12:44.74\00:12:48.53 What is that? Okay. 00:12:48.56\00:12:49.59 The next one. 00:12:49.62\00:12:50.65 Now there is another group of drugs 00:12:50.68\00:12:55.83 that causes not so much of B12 deficiency 00:12:55.86\00:12:58.75 but let me explain this, 00:12:58.78\00:13:00.21 I'm gonna kind of do it here 00:13:00.24\00:13:02.11 in hope the camera can come in with this. 00:13:02.14\00:13:06.01 Imagine this fist right here, if you can come in, 00:13:06.04\00:13:09.37 this is an X arm 00:13:09.40\00:13:11.31 and then at the end of my fist is a nerve cell. 00:13:11.34\00:13:14.99 For this nerve cell to connect to this nerve cell 00:13:15.02\00:13:18.76 there needs to be some communication 00:13:18.79\00:13:20.58 between the two fists so that therefore, 00:13:20.61\00:13:23.17 we keep thinking cognitive development 00:13:23.20\00:13:25.98 one nerve cell communicates with this nerve cell. 00:13:26.01\00:13:30.18 There are a group of drugs is over 80 of them 00:13:30.21\00:13:36.03 that simply blocks this nerve cell 00:13:36.06\00:13:40.02 communicating with this nerve cell. 00:13:40.05\00:13:42.99 It blocks it right here, all right. 00:13:43.02\00:13:45.16 Now have in mind let's go to the screen. 00:13:45.19\00:13:48.21 You want to write this one down, 00:13:48.24\00:13:49.77 here is the group of drugs that causes a block 00:13:49.80\00:13:53.17 from one nerve cell to the next. 00:13:53.20\00:13:55.50 Let's go the screen at this time. 00:13:55.53\00:13:57.74 Anticholinergic drugs. 00:13:57.77\00:14:02.32 "Taking these drugs was linked to cognitive impairment 00:14:02.35\00:14:08.01 and for the first time 00:14:08.04\00:14:11.39 these drugs were also linked to death." 00:14:11.42\00:14:15.58 This is from the Journal of American Geriatrics Society. 00:14:15.61\00:14:20.37 And it is a list of 80 drugs and I have the list right here, 00:14:20.40\00:14:26.76 it's about 80 drugs right here folk, 00:14:26.79\00:14:28.95 and these drugs here they have different categories 00:14:28.98\00:14:32.56 like there's a level three, 00:14:32.59\00:14:34.43 that's the highest of powerful portion 00:14:34.46\00:14:37.53 and properties in these drugs. 00:14:37.56\00:14:39.77 There's a level two, there's a level one. 00:14:39.80\00:14:42.70 And so those individuals who are taking these drugs 00:14:42.73\00:14:45.70 that's on this list here of 80 00:14:45.73\00:14:48.34 their cognitive impairment simply becomes impair. 00:14:48.37\00:14:52.75 And they start noticing that within 60 days 00:14:52.78\00:14:58.78 if you taken category three. 00:14:58.81\00:15:01.41 If you taken category one about maybe 90 days. 00:15:01.44\00:15:05.23 And so it's called the anticholinergic risk scale. 00:15:05.26\00:15:11.65 Anticholinergic risk scale. 00:15:11.68\00:15:16.66 And you will get a list like this 00:15:16.69\00:15:18.60 not just this a few weeks ago, 00:15:18.63\00:15:21.21 you see the list of drugs 00:15:21.24\00:15:23.17 and these drugs have-- those have taken them 00:15:23.20\00:15:25.60 then you can also block that signal 00:15:25.63\00:15:29.31 therefore there's gonna be some cognitive impairment 00:15:29.34\00:15:33.02 and it drops really 00:15:33.05\00:15:34.87 ability to think, to reason as well. 00:15:34.90\00:15:38.00 Now of the 25 drugs that most seniors take 00:15:38.03\00:15:41.64 are the 25 the most seniors take 00:15:41.67\00:15:43.87 17 are those drugs are on this list. 00:15:43.90\00:15:48.14 Okay, now, somebody is gonna say I know, 00:15:48.17\00:15:50.61 I know it's gonna happen. 00:15:50.64\00:15:51.94 When the show airs they are gonna say 00:15:51.97\00:15:53.43 where is the list?
