Protein builds muscles so I need protein, 00:00:01.40\00:00:04.66 besides only place to get complete protein is 00:00:04.69\00:00:08.61 from animal kingdom. If that's what you think 00:00:08.67\00:00:11.25 then today's program is just for you, entitled 00:00:11.44\00:00:13.78 protein without the baloney, stay with us. 00:00:14.28\00:00:17.35 Hi, welcome to Abundant Living, my name is 00:00:45.01\00:00:46.94 Curtis Eakins and this is my partner and my 00:00:47.10\00:00:49.98 friend Paula Eakins. Hello, hello kind of, also 00:00:50.20\00:00:56.67 my wife, I just like to add too, oh thank you, 00:00:56.78\00:00:58.94 you are my wife, I'm your wife, yes, beautiful 00:00:58.97\00:01:00.80 I love you very much thank you, okay thank 00:01:01.11\00:01:03.53 you love me more, more, more and I love you 00:01:03.56\00:01:06.92 I love you more okay, okay well, that's a little 00:01:07.56\00:01:09.43 contest we have, who loves a person more, 00:01:09.65\00:01:12.56 anyway, that's a running contest. 00:01:12.98\00:01:14.75 But again, protein without the baloney. 00:01:14.88\00:01:17.44 Now of course in a tease, we need protein to 00:01:17.97\00:01:20.88 build muscle and I want to start this program 00:01:21.08\00:01:24.12 by saying this honey, from the outside, that 00:01:24.28\00:01:27.10 said that there was an article in vegetarian 00:01:27.13\00:01:29.72 times some years ago I still have the article 00:01:29.96\00:01:31.95 and it was entitled meatless muscles, 00:01:38.02\00:01:39.39 it has in that article because been a former 00:01:39.42\00:01:40.79 bodybuilder years ago I was very interested in 00:01:40.82\00:01:43.79 this article in the vegetarian times and it 00:01:43.82\00:01:46.19 had several body builders who were 00:01:46.22\00:01:49.12 vegetarians. Now we're not talking about body 00:01:49.65\00:01:52.52 builders who just came to the gym one or two 00:01:52.61\00:01:54.74 times, these are top notched body builders and 00:01:54.89\00:01:59.74 they entitled the article meatless muscles and 00:01:59.84\00:02:03.79 the first one was Andrius Colleen, 00:02:03.82\00:02:06.51 he was a 13 year bodybuilder and was 00:02:07.24\00:02:11.29 Mr. international. I remember him, building 00:02:11.72\00:02:14.94 muscles, I remember him, alright, without 00:02:14.97\00:02:17.02 animal protein. Yeah, yeah, the second guy 00:02:17.27\00:02:20.05 that it had in article was Bill Pearl, he was a 00:02:20.22\00:02:24.17 four time Mr. Universe building muscles 00:02:24.42\00:02:29.33 without meat, meatless muscles and of course 00:02:29.46\00:02:32.53 being a bodybuilder I was very interested in 00:02:32.60\00:02:34.23 that of course at the Huntsville Hospital, where I 00:02:34.26\00:02:36.06 used to work years ago, everyone knew that I 00:02:36.09\00:02:38.79 was a vegetarian and of course I would get 00:02:38.82\00:02:41.08 teased quite often of course it didn't, I didn't 00:02:41.38\00:02:43.37 mind that. I had several nick names salad 00:02:43.40\00:02:47.36 shooter, Tofu head, you know that kind of 00:02:47.52\00:02:49.34 thing. So, when some of the guys who used to 00:02:49.37\00:02:52.33 tease me and some of these people were 00:02:52.43\00:02:54.59 maybe 10-15 years younger than I was, 00:02:54.71\00:02:57.48 I would wait till a whole lot of nurses get 00:02:58.12\00:02:59.60 around, then I tell the person who is teasing 00:02:59.87\00:03:02.01 me, all of this time, I said okay I'll tell you 00:03:02.04\00:03:04.95 what how about an Indian Wrestle and I know 00:03:05.18\00:03:08.34 this is an international program, so that means 00:03:08.37\00:03:10.73 that you have a table and you put your elbow 00:03:10.76\00:03:13.98 on the table and then clap hands and you see 00:03:14.01\00:03:16.93 who can you know win the contest as far as 00:03:17.06\00:03:20.72 getting your hand back to the other side of the 00:03:20.75\00:03:23.11 table. So, I tell you what every single match I 00:03:23.36\00:03:28.37 won and that's why I as a person never had 00:03:28.40\00:03:31.65 any comments or I know that and tease me 00:03:31.75\00:03:33.36 any time after that. But meatless muscles and 00:03:33.39\00:03:37.69 so therefore this program is very popular and it's 00:03:38.01\00:03:40.90 needed in the society today because some 00:03:40.96\00:03:43.41 people think that we need animal protein to 00:03:43.53\00:03:46.11 build muscles. Well, why don't we discuss 00:03:46.30\00:03:47.90 then what exactly is protein. Well protein 00:03:48.03\00:03:50.95 basically is a compound found in foods and it 00:03:51.10\00:03:54.18 helps the body to maintain itself on a daily 00:03:54.33\00:03:56.93 basis. Why is so important for us to 00:03:57.20\00:03:59.74 have it? Well protein again compounds, 00:03:59.77\00:04:03.01 those compounds we call amino acids and 00:04:03.05\00:04:05.79 amino acids is very important as far as 00:04:05.84\00:04:08.29 tissue and cell growth, hemoglobin 00:04:08.73\00:04:11.36 production, red blood cells for hormone 00:04:11.64\00:04:14.88 processes, produce of hormones, a vision is 00:04:14.91\00:04:20.29 also good for that and so protein is good for a 00:04:20.32\00:04:23.07 lot of things and so that's why we need 00:04:23.33\00:04:25.28 protein on a daily basis because we need red 00:04:25.42\00:04:28.31 blood cells and we need antibodies, protein 00:04:28.34\00:04:31.17 protein does that as well. We need hormone 00:04:31.20\00:04:33.32 productions, protein is responsible for that as 00:04:33.52\00:04:35.48 well so again protein is very vital to sustain 00:04:35.67\00:04:39.30 life on a daily basis. Well, what are the best 00:04:39.40\00:04:42.19 sources when we talk about protein, the best source 00:04:42.42\00:04:44.58 is a best way to get that in. Okay the best 00:04:44.61\00:04:46.18 source is, let's go to God's word and we have a 00:04:46.85\00:04:49.47 clue as far as the best source of protein, we read this 00:04:49.67\00:04:53.55 verse before honey you maybe remember this, 00:04:53.70\00:04:56.14 but it's good to re-read it again, this is found in 00:04:56.32\00:04:58.99 Genesis chapter 1, this is right after God 00:04:59.16\00:05:02.20 created mankind and so we give, God gives us 00:05:02.67\00:05:07.70 a instruction as far as the diet for mankind in 00:05:08.02\00:05:10.55 verse 29, the Bible says this. And God said 00:05:10.75\00:05:14.86 behold I had given you every herb bearing 00:05:15.07\00:05:18.54 seed which is upon the face up all the earth 00:05:18.79\00:05:21.51 and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree 00:05:22.47\00:05:26.08 yielding seed to you is shall be for meat or 00:05:26.78\00:05:32.31 another correct more translation is food, 00:05:32.48\00:05:35.31 because in that text there is no meat listed 00:05:35.83\00:05:38.39 in that verse. So the word meat means food 00:05:38.58\00:05:40.91 and then after sin of course, Genesis 3 in 00:05:41.82\00:05:44.60 verse 18, the Bible says in addition to that 00:05:44.78\00:05:48.12 thou shall eat the herb of the field. Now with 00:05:48.61\00:05:52.38 that in mind, it kind of gives you an idea of 00:05:52.59\00:05:55.83 the source of protein and those two verses of 00:05:56.14\00:05:59.01 scripture before sin and after sin, there was no 00:05:59.32\00:06:05.14 animal protein mentioned at all. Plant protein 00:06:05.39\00:06:11.55 from the plant kingdom, either from the fruit 00:06:11.66\00:06:13.89 or the nuts or from the ground, which is the 00:06:14.31\00:06:16.93 legumes, vegetables and whole grain. 00:06:17.09\00:06:19.69 Now having said that, let's go to our first 00:06:20.35\00:06:22.81 graphic and let's see about the plant protein. 00:06:22.85\00:06:26.35 The best source, this is from the American 00:06:26.39\00:06:29.86 Journal of Clinical Nutrition it says, "Plant 00:06:29.96\00:06:32.93 protein alone can provide adequate amounts of 00:06:33.37\00:06:38.75 amino acids if a variety of plant foods are 00:06:39.21\00:06:43.63 consumed." Plant protein, the best source. 00:06:43.98\00:06:47.72 Now people maybe looking at that and 00:06:48.22\00:06:50.83 saying wait a minute now, because plant 00:06:50.87\00:06:53.46 protein is really incomplete, it doesn't 00:06:53.59\00:06:55.96 have all of the amino acids and either one of 00:06:56.13\00:06:59.25 the foods in the plant kingdom so, let's talk 00:06:59.28\00:07:01.59 about that honey, what is, how can we get 00:07:01.64\00:07:03.65 complete protein from the plant kingdom? 00:07:04.02\00:07:05.45 Well, you know many years ago, when people 00:07:06.22\00:07:08.95 began talking more about vegetarianism, 00:07:09.01\00:07:10.88 you use to always hear words, there's not 00:07:11.41\00:07:13.05 enough calcium available to us not enough iron 00:07:13.08\00:07:15.08 available to us and of course certainly not 00:07:15.12\00:07:17.40 enough protein available and for a long time 00:07:17.43\00:07:19.68 people, did not want to switch over because 00:07:19.71\00:07:21.17 they felt they were going to not have the 00:07:21.30\00:07:22.67 amount of any of these and specifically 00:07:22.70\00:07:24.94 protein because it's function in the body. 00:07:25.24\00:07:27.21 Hmm, and what has happened is through the 00:07:27.37\00:07:29.58 years, the scientific community has now come 00:07:29.67\00:07:31.69 back and said you know you can have a 00:07:31.87\00:07:33.85 protein source incomplete let's say for instance 00:07:34.01\00:07:36.45 you might have beans in the morning for your 00:07:36.48\00:07:40.05 breakfast meal and you might not have it at 00:07:40.21\00:07:42.71 lunch time with rice, so the combination of 00:07:42.88\00:07:44.68 beans and rice together will make it complete 00:07:44.95\00:07:46.57 protein. Okay. The combination of beans and 00:07:46.72\00:07:49.74 some type of bread, wheat product would give 00:07:49.87\00:07:52.34 you a complete protein, so everybody was 00:07:52.40\00:07:53.78 trying so busy to match mix and match things 00:07:53.95\00:07:55.82 together and what they discovered was that 00:07:56.00\00:07:58.25 you could have an incomplete protein in the 00:07:58.30\00:08:00.61 morning you can have an incomplete protein 00:08:00.77\00:08:02.56 in the afternoon and because of the time frame 00:08:02.62\00:08:05.26 that is still considered as complete protein. 00:08:05.45\00:08:07.86 Okay so therefore in the past they said that 00:08:08.35\00:08:11.96 you suggest to have always together, always 00:08:12.04\00:08:14.28 together at the same meal, right, right okay, 00:08:14.31\00:08:16.04 but now you don't have to do it at the same 00:08:16.46\00:08:17.88 meal yeah, you can have your legume at one 00:08:18.05\00:08:19.83 meal and a whole grain at the other meal and 00:08:20.10\00:08:22.64 therefore it still be complete in that one day, 00:08:22.75\00:08:24.93 right. Well actually it was always that way, 00:08:25.06\00:08:26.54 it's just that science said now, you're just now 00:08:26.68\00:08:29.34 catching up, yeah, yeah. Because you know 00:08:29.47\00:08:31.00 we go back and we, they go back and forth 00:08:31.03\00:08:32.99 for different things but that's been a big 00:08:33.07\00:08:34.44 question and a lot of people have asked that 00:08:34.47\00:08:36.41 question and I think that as a result of it that's 00:08:36.57\00:08:38.66 one of the things that has actually caused more 00:08:38.74\00:08:40.28 study to be out, talking about the combination, 00:08:40.31\00:08:43.16 but what a real good source to actually get 00:08:43.51\00:08:46.19 that now to know that, you know and God 00:08:46.22\00:08:48.59 knew what he was doing, right, I mean he 00:08:48.67\00:08:50.04 says fruits and vegetables and grains and 00:08:50.07\00:08:51.44 cereals, that's what he said alright, right, right. 00:08:51.57\00:08:53.32 So it's just a matter of us really catching up 00:08:53.35\00:08:55.50 with God. Yeah and I think again a lot of 00:08:55.57\00:08:57.45 people still think that we need protein to build 00:08:57.64\00:09:01.96 muscle and a part of it said that protein does 00:09:02.10\00:09:06.46 not build muscle, what builds muscle is 00:09:06.49\00:09:10.11 exercise and we get more than enough of our 00:09:10.14\00:09:13.32 share of protein, we're gonna have to little skit 00:09:13.53\00:09:15.38 in the kitchen and you'll discover that how 00:09:15.57\00:09:17.52 much protein that most people get on a daily 00:09:17.64\00:09:19.45 basis, but exercise builds muscles and I 00:09:19.58\00:09:23.79 think because muscles contain protein, people 00:09:23.82\00:09:27.76 assume that protein builds muscle, hmm. 00:09:27.95\00:09:30.73 Well, the body contains a lot of water that 00:09:31.07\00:09:34.01 doesn't mean that water builds the body, right, 00:09:34.17\00:09:36.00 so it's the same scenario. Well, we, the 00:09:36.29\00:09:38.19 question is how, how much do we actually 00:09:38.52\00:09:39.89 need to have? How much protein do we need, 00:09:39.92\00:09:41.98 now of course you read all types of medical 00:09:42.17\00:09:44.69 journals and websites and they tell you that 00:09:44.89\00:09:47.44 sometimes based on your weight, that based 00:09:47.59\00:09:51.82 on your weight determines how much protein 00:09:51.85\00:09:53.73 you need. So if you're 70 pounds then you 00:09:53.86\00:09:57.33 shall have at least 35 grams of protein, half of 00:09:57.36\00:10:00.04 your weight, alright, but we do not endorse 00:10:00.07\00:10:03.83 that and so therefore with that in mind and 00:10:04.04\00:10:06.33 is how it really started back in the 1800s, 00:10:06.53\00:10:08.46 about this protein and how much we really 00:10:08.67\00:10:10.54 need. To look at a set of coal miners and they 00:10:10.68\00:10:13.88 were you know healthy, strong, they're 00:10:14.01\00:10:15.47 working the coal mines and they decided to 00:10:15.58\00:10:18.29 watch how much protein those coal miners ate 00:10:18.90\00:10:22.91 on a daily basis. They discovered that they ate 00:10:23.13\00:10:25.93 a 118 grams of protein per day, okay, so what 00:10:25.96\00:10:30.01 they did is in 1800s they rounded it up to a 00:10:30.04\00:10:32.74 120 and that's hard they started with the amount 00:10:32.92\00:10:35.85 of protein people need on a daily basis and 00:10:35.90\00:10:38.62 then before long as years gone by they 00:10:38.81\00:10:41.42 decided that 120 is not, is too much than what 00:10:41.84\00:10:47.34 we need. Hmm, so they started lowering the 00:10:47.56\00:10:49.31 amount of protein slowly going down after 00:10:49.53\00:10:53.76 year after year after year, so realize but it 00:10:53.81\00:10:56.39 started at a high level of 120 grams of protein. 00:10:56.53\00:10:59.23 Now, based on international studies 00:10:59.86\00:11:02.37 around the world, it's determined that we eat 00:11:02.49\00:11:04.75 about 25 to 35 grams of protein per day, 00:11:04.93\00:11:09.62 alright. Okay. Now having said that, if a 00:11:10.53\00:11:13.57 person is on a plant based diet, it's easy to 00:11:13.75\00:11:18.00 get that 25 to 35 grams of protein per day, 00:11:18.07\00:11:20.80 but now if you get your protein from the 00:11:21.16\00:11:22.53 animal kingdom then you can overwrite that 00:11:22.59\00:11:25.56 by a long short as far as getting too much 00:11:26.21\00:11:28.17 protein. Hmm, what happens if we have too 00:11:28.47\00:11:33.45 much protein? Well, now a lot of things can 00:11:33.48\00:11:36.17 happen when we get in too much protein, 00:11:36.42\00:11:38.06 again as I mentioned before we cannot get a 00:11:38.09\00:11:41.51 lot of protein if we get our protein from the 00:11:41.54\00:11:43.83 plant kingdom, if we get too much protein 00:11:44.05\00:11:46.58 more than likely we're getting our protein 00:11:46.82\00:11:48.19 from the animal kingdom, because the animal 00:11:48.31\00:11:50.31 kingdom is loaded with protein. Okay and you 00:11:50.51\00:11:53.48 may say that's a good idea, but not really 00:11:53.52\00:11:55.49 because with that comes some other things 00:11:55.72\00:11:58.49 that's brought to the table along with the 00:11:58.60\00:12:00.63 animal protein Hmm. You also have 00:12:00.82\00:12:02.84 cholesterol, hmm, you also have saturated fat, 00:12:03.47\00:12:09.34 these two combinations reeks havoc with the 00:12:10.16\00:12:13.13 cardiovascular system. Which you do not get 00:12:13.28\00:12:17.01 from plant protein. Okay, so with that you 00:12:17.36\00:12:20.95 increase your risk of heart disease and stroke, 00:12:21.08\00:12:25.20 that's number one, number two, lets look at 00:12:25.78\00:12:27.83 the kidneys. Now, I call the kidneys our 00:12:27.93\00:12:30.28 internal washing machine and the kidneys 00:12:30.62\00:12:33.73 work admirably in doing that, but now the 00:12:33.76\00:12:36.84 kidneys cannot work at it's top level if there is 00:12:37.09\00:12:40.97 too much protein in the system. It puts an undo 00:12:41.16\00:12:45.18 burden on the kidneys, with that in mind 00:12:45.44\00:12:48.02 animal protein stresses out the kidneys they 00:12:48.47\00:12:51.44 cannot perform their job admirably, so 00:12:51.60\00:12:53.78 therefore you have increase of renal failure 00:12:53.97\00:12:57.83 and kidney stones. Which is about 80% are 00:12:58.35\00:13:02.58 cholesterol. Let's look at fat, if we get too 00:13:02.85\00:13:06.71 much protein again we're talking about the 00:13:06.75\00:13:08.88 animal protein, you really can't get a whole 00:13:09.16\00:13:11.15 lot in the plant protein, then excess protein 00:13:11.37\00:13:14.51 that the body needs converts over into our 00:13:14.73\00:13:17.65 fat cells. Therefore you have increase of weight, 00:13:18.47\00:13:23.10 with the increase of weight increased stress 00:13:23.54\00:13:25.85 of the skeletal system which is now talking 00:13:25.88\00:13:28.25 about osteoporosis, that also depletes calcium 00:13:28.50\00:13:32.78 from the bone. So all of these problems when 00:13:33.29\00:13:35.67 we get too much excess protein into our 00:13:35.70\00:13:39.04 system. Thereby that's why we suggest plant 00:13:39.33\00:13:42.84 protein based on Genesis 1:29, based on 00:13:43.01\00:13:46.53 Genesis 3:18 is the best protein available and 00:13:46.66\00:13:50.42 that's why we emphasize in this 00:13:50.60\00:13:52.18 Abundant Living program and also in other 00:13:52.35\00:13:53.89 programs in Abundant Living and also on 00:13:53.92\00:13:56.53 3ABN I should say, we emphasize God's 00:13:56.69\00:13:59.83 original diet a plant based protein. Well, we 00:14:00.30\00:14:03.99 can never go wrong with God's original diet. 00:14:04.11\00:14:05.92 No, you can't.
