You did it a hesitation, 00:01:01.37\00:01:03.67 yeah I decided to go ahead and say your name 00:01:04.02\00:01:06.26 for you. I am glad you are with us today 00:01:06.27\00:01:08.44 and again if you been with us for the last few 00:01:08.45\00:01:11.29 weeks we been highlighting some key 00:01:11.30\00:01:13.19 texts in a Bible that have been often 00:01:13.20\00:01:15.79 misunderstood and misinterpreted as far as 00:01:15.80\00:01:18.78 our diet is concerned and again today's 00:01:18.79\00:01:21.32 program is without exception, 00:01:21.33\00:01:23.10 "Don't Judge My Diet", Romans chapter 14. 00:01:23.83\00:01:26.42 But before we go into that particular passage 00:01:26.78\00:01:28.86 of scripture, we're going have a review in 00:01:28.87\00:01:31.68 case you miss our program in previous weeks, 00:01:31.69\00:01:34.37 the last program we did as far as the diet was 00:01:35.00\00:01:37.33 concerned in reference to our Bible text was 00:01:37.34\00:01:39.98 1st Timothy Chapter 4 and Verse 4 where the 00:01:40.31\00:01:43.35 Bible says, every creature of God is good, 00:01:43.36\00:01:46.62 and nothing to be refused, if it is received 00:01:47.04\00:01:51.24 with thanksgiving. And we decided that, 00:01:51.25\00:01:53.67 that text has not give a sanction to eat every 00:01:53.79\00:01:57.30 creature but every creature God is good not 00:01:57.31\00:02:00.37 necessarily for food but is good for God's 00:02:00.38\00:02:03.28 intended purposes which is such as the hog, 00:02:03.29\00:02:06.30 the Catfish is to clean up the filth of the earth, 00:02:06.31\00:02:09.06 amen. Amen! And then did the hawk, 00:02:09.34\00:02:12.10 and the earthworm, the shrimp and the crab 00:02:12.62\00:02:14.06 and a lobster all these are sanitation experts. 00:02:14.07\00:02:18.08 Sanitation experts or sanitation engineers! 00:02:18.13\00:02:20.94 That's right their job is to clean up there's; 00:02:20.95\00:02:23.45 and thus God's intent purposes for those 00:02:23.61\00:02:26.33 particular creatures not for human consumption 00:02:26.34\00:02:28.91 but to clean up the filth, I will tell you what 00:02:29.25\00:02:30.82 those animals they do a mighty fine job. 00:02:31.15\00:02:33.31 They are good. I had a fish tank once and, 00:02:33.36\00:02:37.36 well a big huge fish tank. Okay! 00:02:37.47\00:02:39.57 And I had catfish in the bottom and they were, 00:02:39.58\00:02:42.05 they were along with these ones called a little 00:02:42.06\00:02:43.87 Sucker one's they're on the side of a thing, 00:02:43.88\00:02:45.62 they clean up all the wastes and stuff in the 00:02:45.63\00:02:47.10 bottom of that fish tank. Yes, they do a 00:02:47.11\00:02:49.68 mighty fine job. Don't they? 00:02:49.69\00:02:50.68 Yes, they do an excellent job. 00:02:50.69\00:02:51.67 Okay! Well, we're looking at another text 00:02:51.79\00:02:54.01 for today's program and this is another text 00:02:54.02\00:02:56.47 that is often misinterpreted. This text 00:02:56.48\00:02:59.86 has not much as other texts but this has come 00:02:59.87\00:03:03.28 up from time to time. We gonna go through 00:03:03.29\00:03:05.45 book of Roman chapter 14 and we are 00:03:05.46\00:03:08.63 gonna look at verses 1, 2 and 3. I am 00:03:08.64\00:03:10.85 gonna read verse 2 first of all and then I am 00:03:10.86\00:03:13.85 gonna go back to verse 1, and you will 00:03:13.86\00:03:16.04 understand why I am doing that. 00:03:16.05\00:03:17.24 Romans chapter 14 and verse 2, 00:03:17.31\00:03:20.23 and the Bible says, "For one believeth that 00:03:20.85\00:03:23.65 he may eat all things, another, who is weak, 00:03:23.66\00:03:28.95 eateth herbs". Now let's just stop here for 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.94 a moment. Now, Paul is talking and he says 00:03:32.95\00:03:37.19 you know one believeth that he may eat all 00:03:38.04\00:03:40.98 things what every things but the one who 00:03:40.99\00:03:44.44 eats herbs is the one who is weak. 00:03:44.45\00:03:46.87 Now, if you have another translation other 00:03:47.82\00:03:50.41 than a King James version, I think the New 00:03:50.42\00:03:52.77 International version Revised Standard 00:03:52.78\00:03:54.41 version and New King James version in place 00:03:54.42\00:03:56.91 of the word herbs they have the word 00:03:56.92\00:03:59.38 vegetables. So now let's read it as such, 00:03:59.61\00:04:02.84 "One believeth that he may eat all things, 00:04:03.79\00:04:06.22 and one who eats vegetables is weak". 00:04:06.78\00:04:09.31 Now, some people have taken that one step 00:04:10.54\00:04:12.91 further and say one may believe that they 00:04:12.92\00:04:17.24 can eat all things but a person who is a 00:04:17.25\00:04:20.07 vegetarian is weak. Now we take offense 00:04:20.08\00:04:25.43 to that because we are vegetarians as matter 00:04:25.44\00:04:27.92 of fact we are vegans but in the Bible tells 00:04:27.93\00:04:30.28 us that if we eat herbs or vegetarians then 00:04:30.29\00:04:33.51 you are weak. Now what we are gonna do 00:04:33.52\00:04:35.43 with that Honey? Well, I think we have some 00:04:35.44\00:04:37.40 answers that have even gone away far back, 00:04:37.41\00:04:39.59 back further than that because I believe Adam 00:04:40.36\00:04:43.21 and Eve were vegetarians. I believe so 00:04:43.22\00:04:45.81 too yes. And I think Adam on that vegetarian, 00:04:45.82\00:04:48.48 were a vegan vegetarian diet where he 00:04:48.58\00:04:51.09 live 930 years I believe on a vegan vegetarian 00:04:51.10\00:04:55.19 diet, amen, hallelujah. Well I think you have 00:04:55.20\00:04:57.76 to come back when I will say about how man 00:04:57.77\00:04:59.35 actually gotten his life shorten from eating meat. 00:04:59.36\00:05:02.21 But we are not going to go right now. 00:05:02.29\00:05:03.32 Not right now! Because you are on wrong, 00:05:03.70\00:05:04.67 you are on wrong. Not right now! Okay, 00:05:04.68\00:05:05.71 because I remember at the hospital in the 00:05:05.89\00:05:07.75 Huntsville of course I have a lot of stories of 00:05:07.76\00:05:09.69 what are the things happened at Huntsville 00:05:10.48\00:05:11.86 hospital. Tell a story, tell us? Well we have 00:05:11.87\00:05:13.31 been there for 9 years or so, programs cannot 00:05:13.32\00:05:16.39 contain all those stories but I remember one 00:05:16.40\00:05:18.36 story and of course those co-workers of 00:05:18.37\00:05:20.70 mine there at the hospital they all knew that 00:05:20.71\00:05:22.76 I was a vegetarian, a vegan vegetarian, 00:05:22.77\00:05:25.44 and of course they used to tease me all the time. 00:05:25.81\00:05:28.16 And I had two nicknames by he way, 00:05:28.58\00:05:30.35 one was nicknamed called Tofu Head, 00:05:31.23\00:05:34.14 and other one was Salad Shooter. 00:05:34.63\00:05:36.91 And they would start laughing like you are 00:05:37.53\00:05:38.87 doing right now but that's fine you know what 00:05:38.88\00:05:41.43 I'll let them laugh, but what I'll do is this, 00:05:41.97\00:05:44.44 I will wait until I have a lot of nurses around 00:05:44.90\00:05:47.59 and other co-workers around and I would pick 00:05:47.60\00:05:49.96 someone who I knew was a meat eater. 00:05:49.97\00:05:52.86 And I will tell them come over here, 00:05:53.36\00:05:55.21 and we will have a table and I say okay lets 00:05:56.29\00:05:59.73 do an Indian Wrestle. And we did Indian 00:05:59.74\00:06:02.49 Wrestle there amongst all other nurses and 00:06:02.50\00:06:05.50 other coworkers and these people were 00:06:05.51\00:06:08.21 probably five, ten years younger than I was 00:06:08.22\00:06:10.75 and I tell you what to this day I never lost a 00:06:11.03\00:06:14.90 match yet and these were meat eaters, 00:06:14.91\00:06:17.86 and after that the jokes began to subside, 00:06:18.00\00:06:21.88 I am sure, drastically because they were 00:06:21.89\00:06:24.59 really embarrassed, these are meat eaters 00:06:24.60\00:06:26.84 younger than I was and here I am a vegetarian 00:06:27.20\00:06:29.91 and I beat them every single time. 00:06:29.92\00:06:31.50 So according to this verse at least verse 2 00:06:31.68\00:06:34.63 anyway I will prove that wrong. 00:06:34.80\00:06:36.88 But now you know what we discover that the 00:06:37.11\00:06:39.43 Bible is our interpreter and the Bible tells us 00:06:39.44\00:06:42.82 about something. This weakness is not dealing 00:06:42.83\00:06:45.77 with physical strength at all; the first verse 00:06:45.78\00:06:49.32 gives us the answer. Let's read the first verse. 00:06:49.54\00:06:51.91 And the Bible says, Him that is weak in the faith, 00:06:52.21\00:06:58.05 oh there is the key right there, we are not 00:06:58.19\00:06:59.97 talking about physical strength we are talking 00:06:59.98\00:07:02.12 about people who are weak in the faith, 00:07:02.13\00:07:05.30 receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 00:07:05.94\00:07:10.79 So therefore we are not talking about Physical 00:07:11.09\00:07:13.36 strength, we are talking about people who 00:07:13.37\00:07:15.06 are weak in the faith that's where the 00:07:15.07\00:07:17.89 weakness comes in. Now I guess this vegan of 00:07:17.90\00:07:20.54 faith we are now talking about new believers 00:07:20.55\00:07:23.24 in a faith. Right new believers coming in! 00:07:23.25\00:07:26.79 Not someone that has come in the faith for a 00:07:26.80\00:07:27.77 while and they don't have the faith but now 00:07:27.78\00:07:29.78 we are talking about those new believers. 00:07:29.79\00:07:31.17 Yeah! And in this study here there were 00:07:31.18\00:07:33.87 believers come into the Christian church. 00:07:34.09\00:07:36.15 These were new believers, and of course 00:07:36.73\00:07:39.71 they came in with all the other religious baggage 00:07:40.04\00:07:43.20 with them. Sure, sure! So that's why Paul said 00:07:43.21\00:07:45.83 these new believers weak in the faith coming into 00:07:45.84\00:07:49.75 the Christian church. I remember we were in 00:07:49.76\00:07:54.76 one particular church and thus one person in a 00:07:55.18\00:07:58.85 pulpit, he read Romans chapter 14 verses 1, 00:07:58.86\00:08:04.16 2 and 3, verbatim without stopping and without 00:08:04.81\00:08:10.63 explaining, and he begin read Romans chapter 00:08:10.72\00:08:13.91 14 verses 1,2, and 3 the audience began to 00:08:13.92\00:08:19.55 applaud as to the passage of scripture here. 00:08:19.80\00:08:23.75 Because if you read these three reverses 00:08:23.89\00:08:25.83 without stopping to explain what Paul is 00:08:25.89\00:08:28.69 trying to say to these people in Rome, 00:08:28.70\00:08:30.89 you have a misinterpretation or a 00:08:31.21\00:08:34.70 wrong impression or Paul's words that's why 00:08:34.75\00:08:37.91 we are going to deal with this topic today, 00:08:37.92\00:08:39.93 "Don't Judge My Diet". How about giving us 00:08:40.50\00:08:45.43 the religious setting as to what is actually 00:08:45.44\00:08:47.65 going on this particular text? Okay lets set 00:08:47.66\00:08:50.41 the stage here because remember now when 00:08:50.42\00:08:52.38 we look at scripture we must understand and 00:08:52.39\00:08:54.42 ask and answer three questions. 00:08:54.43\00:08:56.59 Question number one, who is doing to talking. 00:08:56.69\00:08:58.92 Well we discovered that is Paul gonna do talking 00:08:59.32\00:09:01.37 that's clear. Question number two, to whom is he 00:09:01.38\00:09:04.40 talking to? He is talking to strong believers 00:09:04.41\00:09:08.20 in a faith. Question number three, 00:09:08.21\00:09:10.91 what is the religious setting of this passage? 00:09:11.38\00:09:14.81 Now we need to answer that last question quite 00:09:15.11\00:09:17.35 assuredly and the Bible does do that. 00:09:17.36\00:09:19.52 Now it's interesting that again as my wife has 00:09:20.23\00:09:22.27 already mentioned this setting is that these 00:09:22.28\00:09:24.46 are new believers coming into the Christian 00:09:24.47\00:09:26.97 faith and with that they bring in a lot of their 00:09:27.14\00:09:30.26 religious baggage with them. They were doing 00:09:30.27\00:09:33.22 one particular religious practice before they 00:09:33.44\00:09:36.74 came into this Christian faith and this incident 00:09:36.75\00:09:39.70 in Rome also occurred in the people in Corinth 00:09:39.71\00:09:43.74 and Paul gives us some idea of what these 00:09:44.50\00:09:47.30 individuals were doing in their formal faith 00:09:47.31\00:09:50.18 before they became Christians into the Roman 00:09:50.31\00:09:52.76 Church. So, let's look at our first graphic, 00:09:52.77\00:09:55.94 this is really profound and this one was 00:09:56.11\00:09:58.34 happening in their formal Christian faith. 00:09:58.35\00:10:01.54 Idol burgers and the Bible says, 00:10:01.89\00:10:04.31 "Some eat it meaning meat as offered unto an 00:10:04.86\00:10:08.70 idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled". 00:10:08.71\00:10:14.49 Let me explain this. You have people coming 00:10:14.89\00:10:17.78 into the Christian church, in their formal 00:10:17.79\00:10:20.59 church setting they had a practice of offering 00:10:20.60\00:10:23.93 idols, or offering animals to idols, okay, 00:10:24.26\00:10:26.65 presumably your ram and your goat. 00:10:26.66\00:10:29.38 They were doing this and they were idol 00:10:30.25\00:10:31.59 worshippers. So when they came into the 00:10:31.60\00:10:33.74 Christian faith, of course Christians do not do 00:10:33.75\00:10:36.24 that because Christ is our sacrifice and 00:10:36.25\00:10:39.28 because of that Paul says we see this people 00:10:39.29\00:10:42.07 who are weak, they come in with this baggage, 00:10:42.08\00:10:44.79 they are weak, they still offering these idols, 00:10:45.15\00:10:47.63 or they still have in mind that certain food 00:10:47.64\00:10:50.15 should not be eaten, so just be mindful not to 00:10:50.16\00:10:53.45 eat those certain foods because they are still 00:10:53.46\00:10:55.60 weak in their faith. So we must understand 00:10:55.61\00:10:57.82 this setting this happened in Corinth and 00:10:57.83\00:11:00.57 now it's also happening in the people in Rome 00:11:00.58\00:11:03.50 as well. Well I think about the fact that as 00:11:03.79\00:11:06.41 a new believer now of course I have been 00:11:06.42\00:11:09.06 in the faith and Christ for a while, 00:11:09.07\00:11:10.98 but I remember you know coming in as a new 00:11:11.19\00:11:13.21 believer and this is a lot of things you have, 00:11:13.22\00:11:15.32 like things you've been taught, 00:11:15.69\00:11:16.66 some things you don't know at all, right, 00:11:16.70\00:11:18.23 and of course also then trying to adjust to the 00:11:18.24\00:11:20.86 new found faith. And so it is so key that 00:11:20.87\00:11:24.10 those who already in the faith will kind of 00:11:24.11\00:11:26.66 surround you with the love of Christ, 00:11:26.67\00:11:28.53 right and helps to teach you rather than to 00:11:28.54\00:11:30.85 give you a hard time. That's right. 00:11:30.86\00:11:32.74 And sometimes we can give people a hard time. 00:11:32.75\00:11:34.47 I think sometimes we are not as patience as 00:11:34.64\00:11:36.75 we should with that a sympathic as we should 00:11:36.76\00:11:39.79 and we need to remind ourselves that one 00:11:40.12\00:11:41.52 time when other those who have come into 00:11:41.53\00:11:44.83 the Christian faith may be just recent years 00:11:44.84\00:11:47.98 probably have experienced some of the 00:11:48.23\00:11:49.77 same things that people are experiencing back 00:11:49.78\00:11:52.42 in Paul's day as well. For sure, sure! 00:11:52.43\00:11:54.84 So now lets look at, I'm gonna look at one of 00:11:54.85\00:11:56.93 the text before we go through our last graphic 00:11:56.94\00:11:58.88 is found in 1st Corinthians chapter 8; 00:11:59.14\00:12:01.31 now mind you now the people in Corinth were 00:12:01.71\00:12:05.13 having these same type of problems as the 00:12:05.14\00:12:07.03 people in Rome, and the people in Corinth in 00:12:07.04\00:12:10.55 the 8th chapter of 1st Corinthians brings out 00:12:10.56\00:12:13.42 this idea as well. Verse 18, verse 13, 00:12:13.43\00:12:17.44 I should say, 1st Corinthians chapter 8 and 00:12:17.45\00:12:19.92 verse 13, the Bible says Wherefore, 00:12:19.93\00:12:23.32 listen to these words, "if meat make my brother 00:12:23.97\00:12:27.82 to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world 00:12:28.04\00:12:33.22 standeth, lest I make my brother to offend". 00:12:33.23\00:12:37.30 In other words lets make this clear here. 00:12:37.46\00:12:39.45 These new believers come into the Christian faith. 00:12:40.56\00:12:43.81 They baggage a religious experience was offering 00:12:44.57\00:12:48.29 rams and goats to idols. Now they are coming 00:12:48.52\00:12:51.80 to a new church foundation, new truce and 00:12:51.81\00:12:55.47 this people in the Christian faith realizing 00:12:55.48\00:12:58.87 these people having offered these animals 00:12:58.88\00:13:01.79 to idols, they say well now if I eat a ram or a 00:13:01.80\00:13:05.80 goat it will really bother their conscience 00:13:05.81\00:13:10.27 because of their past experience. 00:13:10.51\00:13:12.14 So they say, so that I won't offend anybody 00:13:12.23\00:13:16.08 I want to stop eating meat. Therefore I will 00:13:16.75\00:13:19.78 not offend these new believers coming into 00:13:19.79\00:13:23.35 the Christian faith. And this is what this 00:13:23.47\00:13:25.42 text is talking about. So these people were 00:13:25.43\00:13:27.89 sympathetici to new believers and that 00:13:27.90\00:13:30.40 message there is still prevalent today is great 00:13:30.41\00:13:34.35 for our ebonation for Christian believers in the 00:13:34.36\00:13:37.71 Christian faith as well who are strong believers. 00:13:37.72\00:13:40.20 Well, I think that you cleared that one up. 00:13:41.89\00:13:44.48 Okay! Once again I want to remind our 00:13:45.01\00:13:46.94 viewing audience that a lot of these different 00:13:46.95\00:13:48.47 things that are going on are particularly 00:13:48.48\00:13:50.63 problems that people have or things people 00:13:51.27\00:13:52.51 have access about and so we thought we will 00:13:52.52\00:13:54.01 put these in a program format. 00:13:54.02\00:13:55.73 Do we have another graphic? Yes, I think 00:13:57.02\00:13:58.40 we do have another graphic and to me this 00:13:58.41\00:14:01.03 graphic is the bottom line for us being 00:14:01.04\00:14:03.88 sympathetic. Let's go to our last graphic and 00:14:03.89\00:14:06.54 let's see what Paul says, Be sympathetic 00:14:06.55\00:14:09.34 folks and the Bible says, no man put a 00:14:09.35\00:14:13.39 stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his 00:14:13.40\00:14:18.56 brother's way. So if you know that you are 00:14:18.57\00:14:21.27 doing something and you know that whatever 00:14:21.28\00:14:24.16 you are doing may cause a stumbling block for 00:14:24.17\00:14:27.88 believer who let's say a little weak in the faith 00:14:28.13\00:14:31.41 then Paul counsel is then don't do that, 00:14:31.98\00:14:34.95 otherwise it will cause a stumbling block or you 00:14:35.09\00:14:37.41 may offend someone. So again be sympathetic, 00:14:37.42\00:14:41.01 be mindful of other people's religious 00:14:41.39\00:14:44.23 experience because when you come into a new 00:14:44.24\00:14:47.07 Christian faith they have their baggage's with 00:14:47.25\00:14:50.02 them and it may be a law before they learn all 00:14:50.03\00:14:53.93 the truths that they should according to God's 00:14:53.94\00:14:56.21 will. So the lesson is clear. The lesson is very 00:14:56.22\00:14:59.27 clear. The lesson is clear. Well you know God 00:14:59.28\00:15:01.19 is awesome. Yes he is! And through study of 00:15:01.20\00:15:03.39 his word first starting off with praying asking 00:15:03.40\00:15:06.66 the Lord to open up your heart and your mind 00:15:06.67\00:15:08.36 to understand what he has to say and then 00:15:08.37\00:15:10.44 from there and if we all did that believe it or 00:15:10.45\00:15:12.51 not we probably would all be a lot better off 00:15:12.52\00:15:14.03 as far as how we have each other. 00:15:14.04\00:15:15.46 And not taking the scripture out of context, 00:15:16.12\00:15:17.91 not trying to make it fit because this is what 00:15:17.92\00:15:19.96 you want to say, but letting the Bible be its 00:15:19.97\00:15:22.27 own interpreter, line upon line, 00:15:22.28\00:15:23.95 precept upon precept, here little and there 00:15:24.48\00:15:27.50 little. And our last text here is back to Romans 00:15:27.51\00:15:30.70 Chapter 14 Verses 3 the Bible says, 00:15:30.71\00:15:33.39 "Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth 00:15:33.70\00:15:36.43 not; and let not him which eateth not judge him 00:15:36.44\00:15:39.83 that eateth: for God hath received him". 00:15:39.84\00:15:41.90 In other words don't judge that was the 00:15:41.96\00:15:44.18 person you know other peson don't judge you, 00:15:44.19\00:15:46.30 okay. And God going to have a perfect judgment 00:15:46.51\00:15:51.08 in the end and he would judge us accordingly 00:15:51.26\00:15:53.75 to what we know not what we don't know. 00:15:54.10\00:15:56.92 So, let's go into the kitchen and what do we 00:15:57.27\00:15:59.12 have for our viewing audience today. 00:15:59.13\00:16:01.41 Well those individuals that like a lot of 00:16:01.82\00:16:05.26 chocolate, chocolate, and don't know how to 00:16:05.27\00:16:07.27 really get away from it we are going to show you 00:16:07.28\00:16:10.39 a recipe that's going to satisfy that craving 00:16:10.40\00:16:14.29 for chocolate.
