I'm blessed with seven fingers. 00:00:02.23\00:00:03.53 God's number is ingrained 00:00:03.57\00:00:04.57 on the palms of my hand as he is on all of ours. 00:00:04.60\00:00:08.77 And because of what he did on the cross for all of us. 00:00:08.94\00:00:11.84 That way, 00:00:11.87\00:00:13.01 Gospel Outreach workers and their wives go out as a team 00:00:13.04\00:00:15.71 with the right arm of the ministry 00:00:15.74\00:00:17.38 and the gospel at the same time. 00:00:17.41\00:00:19.55 And it is a powerful combination in women ministering to women. 00:00:19.58\00:00:23.55 Really helped the Gospel Outreac 00:00:23.59\00:00:25.39 get through the doors 00:00:25.42\00:00:26.92 Tapon lives with his family on a small island. 00:00:26.96\00:00:29.89 He travels by boat 00:00:29.92\00:00:31.09 to nearby islands to share the love of Jesus. 00:00:31.13\00:00:34.20 Hi, I'm Julie. 00:00:34.20\00:00:34.86 Welcome to Adventures in Mission 00:00:34.93\00:00:36.40 Today we're going to be talking with 00:00:36.43\00:00:37.70 Jim Reynolds from Ultimate Mission. 00:00:37.73\00:00:39.87 Ultimate Mission and Gospel Outr 00:00:39.90\00:00:42.40 in the 1040 window to deal with a very serious epidemic. 00:00:42.44\00:00:46.14 Today's topic it's going to be difficult. 00:00:46.44\00:00:48.51 We're going to be talking about suicide and depression. 00:00:48.54\00:00:51.35 Gospel Outreach presents Adventures in Missions. 00:00:51.38\00:00:55.52 Welcome to the posting of the colors. 00:01:32.69\00:01:35.76 This means we can go boating now. 00:01:36.86\00:01:39.79 We're ready to roll. 00:01:39.83\00:01:41.00 And I've got lily of the valley, see. 00:01:41.03\00:01:43.77 Now we can go boating. 00:01:45.10\00:01:47.40 Yeah, this ones mine. 00:01:47.44\00:01:48.64 Gracious father, we ask that you be with us. 00:01:48.67\00:01:50.51 Please bless us today. 00:01:50.54\00:01:52.24 help us to have a great time on the boat. 00:01:52.27\00:01:55.34 Hard to the right? 00:01:56.38\00:01:57.65 Yep. Now straight. 00:01:57.68\00:01:58.95 Here we are. 00:01:58.98\00:02:00.08 Here we are, 00:02:00.12\00:02:00.78 Friends. Now. Here we are. Whoa! 00:02:00.82\00:02:03.42 Okay, I think I'm ready. 00:02:03.45\00:02:04.25 to ditch the headsets 00:02:04.29\00:02:07.46 See. Before headsets, you have to just 00:02:09.92\00:02:11.99 yell at each other, but over the engine. 00:02:12.03\00:02:14.66 But this is much better. 00:02:14.73\00:02:17.47 So we are headed out on our boat, 00:02:17.50\00:02:20.00 which is called the Summerhus, 00:02:20.04\00:02:22.57 which is summer house in Norwegian. 00:02:22.60\00:02:25.07 And we've just left our morning buoy 00:02:25.11\00:02:27.38 and we are going for a little boat tour. 00:02:27.41\00:02:31.48 It's a beautiful, beautiful day and Marshall and 00:02:31.51\00:02:34.72 I love being out on the water. 00:02:34.75\00:02:36.32 That's way cool. Oh, are you guys getting that? 00:02:36.35\00:02:39.65 Oh, awesome, awesome, look at that 00:02:39.92\00:02:42.96 Oh, look at that. 00:02:44.13\00:02:44.59 Look at that, woo. 00:02:44.63\00:02:47.83 Why boat's Marshall. 00:02:50.77\00:02:52.80 Well, we're told in the Bible that we are supposed to follow 00:02:52.83\00:02:55.87 Jesus example. 00:02:55.90\00:02:58.14 And of all of the activities he was involved in. 00:02:58.17\00:03:01.38 There was walking and there was boating. 00:03:01.41\00:03:04.45 So it just seems like the right thing to do. 00:03:04.48\00:03:07.55 I have spent hours 00:03:10.29\00:03:11.72 and hours and hours up here. 00:03:11.75\00:03:14.82 My name is Julie Sanders Keymer 00:03:15.52\00:03:17.63 and I'm the host of Adventures in Missions. 00:03:17.66\00:03:20.56 Having grown up here on the island 00:03:20.60\00:03:22.13 and being surrounded by so many retired missionaries, 00:03:22.16\00:03:25.50 I've been blessed to have learned from so many people. 00:03:25.90\00:03:28.94 And mentoring is really important. 00:03:28.97\00:03:32.04 And then these people were missionaries in Korea. 00:03:34.28\00:03:37.58 These people were, missionaries in India. 00:03:37.75\00:03:40.72 And then the people up here on the right 00:03:40.75\00:03:42.28 were missionaries in Indonesia. 00:03:42.32\00:03:43.99 my grandpa actually started Monterey 00:03:45.65\00:03:47.16 Bay Academy, and he and my grandma were pivotal in that. 00:03:47.19\00:03:50.79 And then they felt the call of the Lord, 00:03:50.83\00:03:52.93 and he got the idea to do dramatized audio Bible stories. 00:03:52.96\00:03:56.73 And that's how the Bible in Living Sound started. 00:03:56.93\00:04:00.07 This is my grandma, Ruth Benson Grunke. 00:04:00.70\00:04:03.64 And her parents were immigrants from Norway. 00:04:03.67\00:04:06.04 And this is my grandpa. 00:04:06.07\00:04:07.01 Leo Grunke, and they are the ones who started 00:04:07.04\00:04:10.61 Monterey Bay Academy and Bible loving sound. 00:04:10.75\00:04:13.82 So I have been part of the Bible and living sound 00:04:14.42\00:04:17.49 as a very young girl. 00:04:17.52\00:04:18.99 And we've gone from records to cassettes to CDs, 00:04:19.02\00:04:22.39 to DVDs, audio DVDs, and now, downloads. 00:04:22.89\00:04:27.13 And so mission sharing Jesus and his stories 00:04:27.13\00:04:30.70 has been very much a part of my family and my life. 00:04:30.73\00:04:33.90 I'm blessed with seven fingers. 00:04:38.31\00:04:39.54 God's number is ingrained 00:04:39.57\00:04:40.78 on the palms of my hand as he is on all of ours. 00:04:40.81\00:04:44.78 Because of what he did on the cross, for all of us 00:04:45.01\00:04:47.88 to be able to have 00:04:47.92\00:04:49.08 a connection with somebody and I have something special, 00:04:49.12\00:04:51.95 unique on the outside. 00:04:52.32\00:04:53.52 And some of us have 00:04:53.56\00:04:54.72 something unique on the inside, and some of us have both. 00:04:54.76\00:04:57.46 But for me, it's a connection that I'm able to have 00:04:57.49\00:05:00.63 with somebody else. 00:05:00.66\00:05:03.70 I was always wondering how I could use my communication 00:05:05.57\00:05:09.00 degree in journalism and also share about Jesus. 00:05:09.04\00:05:12.67 My career has continued and now to be involved 00:05:12.71\00:05:16.44 more with Blue Mountain Television, 00:05:16.48\00:05:17.68 which I was in college, 00:05:17.71\00:05:19.25 and then with Gospel Outreach to become a board member 00:05:19.28\00:05:22.08 and then to be asked to host Adventures in Missions. 00:05:22.12\00:05:24.72 It is humbling to sit in the host's chair 00:05:24.75\00:05:28.86 on the set of Adventures in Miss 00:05:29.06\00:05:31.06 I don't take that for granted at all. 00:05:31.09\00:05:33.46 I have a huge responsibility to 00:05:33.50\00:05:36.36 share and listen 00:05:37.43\00:05:39.60 with the regional directors who are going out and meeting 00:05:39.63\00:05:42.00 with our Gospel Outreach workers 00:05:42.04\00:05:44.51 and to have the sense of the enormity 00:05:44.54\00:05:48.04 of what our Gospel Outreach workers are sharing, 00:05:48.91\00:05:53.18 many of them in very serious situations where 00:05:53.58\00:05:56.52 they're not supposed to be talking about the living God. 00:05:56.55\00:06:00.26 I'm often moved to tears as a host. 00:06:00.29\00:06:03.96 The goal is to make the person feel as comfortable as they can 00:06:03.99\00:06:08.16 and to forget the fact that, yes, there are camera people 00:06:08.36\00:06:12.33 there, that there are cameras rolling, and we're just sharing 00:06:12.37\00:06:15.47 the good news about what Jesus is doing in the 1040 window. 00:06:15.50\00:06:18.57 So this is 00:06:19.21\00:06:20.74 this has been more powerful than really 00:06:20.78\00:06:22.81 we could have ever dreamed when we first started. 00:06:22.84\00:06:25.11 And so God is just doing some amazing things. 00:06:25.15\00:06:27.98 Absolutely. 00:06:28.02\00:06:29.08 The interesting thing is that a lot of people who 00:06:29.12\00:06:32.09 are Christians don't 00:06:33.66\00:06:35.12 realize that they're also Gospel Outreach workers. 00:06:35.16\00:06:38.26 And you don't have to go to India. 00:06:38.29\00:06:40.80 You don't have to go to Thailand. 00:06:40.83\00:06:42.50 You don't have to go to Cambodia. 00:06:42.53\00:06:44.60 But we can be Gospel Outreach workers by holding the door 00:06:44.63\00:06:47.90 open for somebody, by smiling at somebody. 00:06:47.94\00:06:50.67 And to me, God is going to bless that. 00:06:50.71\00:06:53.78 Both Julie 00:07:10.69\00:07:11.63 and I were involved in ministry separately 00:07:11.66\00:07:14.20 before we met and started hanging out together. 00:07:14.20\00:07:17.27 And we come from mission based families, 00:07:17.40\00:07:20.47 service oriented families as well. 00:07:20.60\00:07:23.51 So I put under my picture in college that I like sailing. 00:07:23.54\00:07:28.24 So I read that Julie was 00:07:28.91\00:07:31.18 only one of two or so people that had sailing listed. 00:07:31.21\00:07:34.48 Since I liked sailing, I thought I should 00:07:35.08\00:07:37.32 check her out a little bit. 00:07:37.35\00:07:38.35 And then Marshall proposed to me on the phone. 00:07:41.46\00:07:44.76 Where was I? 00:07:44.79\00:07:46.09 Saint Petersburg, Russia just called her right up 00:07:46.13\00:07:48.90 and asked her if she wanted to marry me. 00:07:48.93\00:07:50.67 You asked me if I wanted to be your best friend 00:07:50.70\00:07:53.74 for the rest of our lives. 00:07:53.77\00:07:56.84 So I didn't really get a clear response, 00:07:58.07\00:08:00.28 but luckily, Cause I was so shocked first in my life, 00:08:00.31\00:08:04.61 I was speechless. 00:08:04.65\00:08:06.65 I think that's the only time. 00:08:06.68\00:08:09.72 I think 00:08:14.99\00:08:16.09 that having somebody on your team who you can bounce 00:08:16.12\00:08:19.76 ideas off of, gained energy from when your battery's dead. 00:08:19.79\00:08:24.13 gain perspective on has really been 00:08:25.23\00:08:28.04 a life changer for both of us. 00:08:28.07\00:08:29.77 And Marshall 00:08:29.80\00:08:31.54 is a cheerleader for me. 00:08:31.57\00:08:33.88 And he is very supportive of the talents 00:08:33.91\00:08:37.81 that God has given me. 00:08:37.85\00:08:39.41 And I thank you, Marshall, for that. 00:08:39.45\00:08:41.72 Thanks for going boating with me. 00:08:44.75\00:08:46.15 Thank you. 00:08:46.19\00:08:49.22 Jim Reynolds from Ultimate Mission. 00:09:03.07\00:09:04.77 Welcome back to the set of Adventures in Missions. 00:09:04.81\00:09:07.18 Thank you. Julie. It's always great having you here. 00:09:07.21\00:09:09.51 Jim, you have, energy about you. 00:09:09.54\00:09:12.51 You have an enthusiasm. 00:09:12.55\00:09:14.05 All because of your love for the Lord. 00:09:14.08\00:09:15.72 And it's exciting to have you here. 00:09:15.75\00:09:17.39 Oh, praise God. Yeah. 00:09:17.42\00:09:18.79 It's. God gives us whatever I got. 00:09:18.82\00:09:20.46 That's what God gives. 00:09:20.49\00:09:21.36 I absolutely will take it. 00:09:21.39\00:09:23.69 And the two of us here, we've got a lot of energy, 00:09:23.73\00:09:25.99 so it's all good. 00:09:26.03\00:09:28.03 So, Jim, share with us ultimate mission. 00:09:28.06\00:09:30.93 what is your ultimate mission? 00:09:30.97\00:09:32.37 With Ultimate Mission. 00:09:32.40\00:09:33.87 so one of our biggest projects that we partner with the Gospel 00:09:33.90\00:09:36.71 Outreach on is to hire the wives of Bible workers 00:09:36.74\00:09:39.84 and train them to do public health work. 00:09:39.87\00:09:42.34 And then we stipend them. 00:09:42.38\00:09:43.98 So that way, Gospel Outreach wor 00:09:44.01\00:09:47.18 go out as a team 00:09:47.22\00:09:48.48 with the right arm of the ministry 00:09:48.52\00:09:50.15 and the gospel at the same time. 00:09:50.19\00:09:52.32 And and it is a powerful combination. 00:09:52.35\00:09:54.56 And women ministering to women 00:09:54.59\00:09:56.32 really help the Gospel Outreach workers get through the doors. 00:09:56.36\00:09:59.49 So this is 00:09:59.69\00:10:01.13 this has been more powerful than really 00:10:01.16\00:10:03.26 we could have ever dreamed when we first started. 00:10:03.30\00:10:05.53 And so God is just doing some amazing things. 00:10:05.57\00:10:08.37 Absolutely. 00:10:08.40\00:10:09.57 And as we talk about the 1040 window, this huge expanse, 00:10:09.60\00:10:13.54 from 10 to 40 degrees north, that's our emphasis here 00:10:13.84\00:10:16.44 at Gospel Outreach. 00:10:16.48\00:10:18.01 Millions of people, 00:10:18.05\00:10:19.21 so many people who need to know about Jesus. 00:10:19.25\00:10:22.32 Obviously, there are other scenes 00:10:22.58\00:10:24.65 that we have in our heads as I say those words. 00:10:24.69\00:10:27.06 Poverty, 00:10:27.09\00:10:27.99 disease, 00:10:28.89\00:10:30.86 lack of food, nutrition, things like that. 00:10:30.89\00:10:33.33 So we're going to be talking today about a very serious topic 00:10:33.36\00:10:37.47 that not only affects 00:10:37.50\00:10:38.70 the 1040 window, but affects people around the world. Yes. 00:10:38.73\00:10:42.60 And but specifically, we are talking 00:10:42.64\00:10:44.61 about the partnership with Ultimate Mission 00:10:44.64\00:10:46.44 and Gospel Outreach to help. 00:10:46.47\00:10:48.18 Who? Yeah. 00:10:48.21\00:10:49.61 Well, to help everybody, really. 00:10:49.64\00:10:52.61 I mean, this partnership really 00:10:52.65\00:10:55.72 allows us to help as many people as we can in the 1040 window. 00:10:56.08\00:10:59.85 And what we're talk about today is, is helping the women, 00:10:59.89\00:11:03.12 because the women, 75% of all of the suicides 00:11:03.43\00:11:08.90 that will happen today will happen in in places 00:11:08.93\00:11:12.60 that like the 1040 window in developing nations in India. 00:11:12.63\00:11:16.71 38% matter of fact, 38% 00:11:16.94\00:11:19.77 of all suicides that will happen on the planet today. 00:11:19.81\00:11:22.88 On with women between the ages of 15 00:11:22.91\00:11:26.55 and 39 will be in India 38. 00:11:26.58\00:11:29.62 Yeah. 30. Okay, let's say that again. 00:11:29.78\00:11:31.92 38% of all suicides on the planet that will happen 00:11:31.95\00:11:35.56 today will in for women will be between the ages of 15 and 39. 00:11:35.59\00:11:40.13 Will be in India, in India, 15 to age 39 in India. 00:11:40.16\00:11:43.80 Okay. And so, you know, it's sad. 00:11:43.93\00:11:46.43 Yeah. It's huge. 00:11:46.47\00:11:47.50 I mean, there's there's a huge problem in India 00:11:47.54\00:11:50.71 with depression, with suicide, with underreported suicides. 00:11:50.74\00:11:54.51 They figure that 30 to 100% suicides are underreported. 00:11:54.54\00:11:58.55 And it's just it's a big, big problem 00:11:58.95\00:12:02.68 why people don't want to talk about it. 00:12:02.72\00:12:05.29 Well, the people don't want to talk about it. 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.86 I mean, it's taboo even to talk about depression. 00:12:07.89\00:12:10.09 Much more suicide. 00:12:10.13\00:12:11.19 I mean, somebody walks in front of a bus, 00:12:11.23\00:12:13.33 they say, oh, she walked in front of the bus. 00:12:13.36\00:12:15.16 They didn't mention that she did it on purpose. 00:12:15.20\00:12:17.40 Somebody get sick and die is 00:12:17.43\00:12:18.67 they just say she got sick and died. 00:12:18.70\00:12:20.60 They don't mention that she drank poison, right? 00:12:20.64\00:12:22.80 This happens day after day, all the time, every day. 00:12:22.84\00:12:26.04 And I'm going to show you a video that you know, 00:12:26.17\00:12:28.74 this happens in our country 00:12:28.78\00:12:29.91 and it happens in other developed countries. 00:12:29.94\00:12:33.21 But what's happening in India, I think just watch this. 00:12:33.68\00:12:37.29 And and I think this will give you just a little bit of insight 00:12:37.52\00:12:40.49 of what we're dealing with. 00:12:40.52\00:12:41.42 The what the Gospel 00:12:41.46\00:12:42.59 Outreach worker wives are dealing with this. Watch this. 00:12:42.62\00:12:44.96 As we look at women in 00:12:55.84\00:12:57.64 India, let's start from let's start from childbirth. 00:12:57.67\00:13:00.81 So people want a boy. 00:13:01.58\00:13:03.38 They don't want a girl. Is that correct? That's right. 00:13:03.41\00:13:05.71 Why do people want a boy and not a girl? 00:13:05.75\00:13:08.52 they feel that 00:13:08.55\00:13:09.58 the boy is the one who can continue their legacy. 00:13:09.62\00:13:12.59 Okay. And so a girl. So. 00:13:12.62\00:13:15.72 So what do they do 00:13:15.76\00:13:16.79 if a lot of people, if they get a girl first or. 00:13:16.83\00:13:19.96 Or if they even think they're going to get a girl first? 00:13:20.43\00:13:23.47 if they get a girl first, 00:13:24.93\00:13:26.97 their first thought would be as soon as she gets 00:13:27.00\00:13:30.71 to the age of puberty, they want to get rid of her. 00:13:30.74\00:13:33.81 So they want to get her married off as soon as she gets 00:13:34.11\00:13:36.64 12, right? Yes. 00:13:36.68\00:13:37.81 That's true. 00:13:37.85\00:13:38.88 12 now, because in India, you have to pay a dowry 00:13:38.91\00:13:42.58 in order to get your daughter married to a man, correct? Yes. 00:13:42.62\00:13:46.52 And so you don't have to pay as high a dowry for a young girl 00:13:46.69\00:13:50.56 for a 12 13 year 00:13:50.59\00:13:51.63 old girl as you would for, say, somebody, 20, 21. 00:13:51.66\00:13:55.33 That's right. And why is that? 00:13:55.36\00:13:57.57 the as the age grows and, 00:13:59.17\00:14:02.24 if a girl looks more pretty, 00:14:03.14\00:14:06.21 you have to pay more dowry, right? 00:14:06.51\00:14:08.91 And if the girl is educated, 00:14:08.94\00:14:12.01 the boy will not be willing to marry. 00:14:12.78\00:14:15.58 So to avoid this situation, the parents will want 00:14:15.62\00:14:20.26 to get the girl married as soon as possible. And. 00:14:20.79\00:14:24.13 Okay, so. 00:14:24.16\00:14:25.29 So the boy doesn't want to marry an educated woman. Why? 00:14:25.33\00:14:28.53 he feels that, 00:14:29.56\00:14:30.87 the girl will dominate her if she's more educated. So. 00:14:30.90\00:14:35.04 So the parents and the dowry could be, what, 00:14:35.07\00:14:37.21 like six months salary, right? 00:14:37.24\00:14:39.41 Half a year's pay. 00:14:39.44\00:14:41.08 It could be more than that. 00:14:41.11\00:14:42.41 Even more than that. 00:14:42.44\00:14:43.48 It would cost to get your daughter married. Yes. 00:14:43.51\00:14:46.21 And so if you weren't that, 00:14:46.25\00:14:47.75 if you didn't have a lot of money, 00:14:47.78\00:14:49.38 your best bet 00:14:49.42\00:14:50.45 was to get your daughter married at 12 or 13 years. 00:14:50.49\00:14:53.09 And then. 00:14:53.12\00:14:53.99 So now, sometimes when a girl is born, 00:14:54.02\00:14:56.76 since nobody knows until they're born. 00:14:56.79\00:14:58.66 Yeah, sometimes the girls are murdered. 00:14:58.69\00:15:01.76 That's true. Yeah. So? 00:15:02.06\00:15:04.77 So the father will 00:15:04.80\00:15:05.87 just take the girl out and give her some poison and 00:15:05.90\00:15:09.37 hide her somewhere, or. 00:15:09.70\00:15:10.67 I mean, how how does that happen? 00:15:10.71\00:15:13.21 they have their own ways. 00:15:13.24\00:15:14.88 as soon 00:15:15.88\00:15:16.85 as the baby is born, they can, give something 00:15:16.88\00:15:19.35 which can stop the breathing of the child or most of them. 00:15:19.38\00:15:23.65 They just leave the baby in a dustbin 00:15:23.69\00:15:26.72 or in a hospital. 00:15:26.76\00:15:28.99 So they have many ways to get rid of the girl child. 00:15:29.02\00:15:32.19 And so these women, as they go out into the villages 00:15:32.23\00:15:36.10 and they start talking with people, 00:15:36.13\00:15:37.93 what I've been hearing is 00:15:37.97\00:15:39.17 that there is a tremendous 00:15:39.20\00:15:40.84 amount of alcoholism in these villages. Yes. 00:15:40.87\00:15:43.87 So, I mean, the poverty rate in these villages is very, 00:15:43.91\00:15:47.38 very high. 00:15:47.41\00:15:48.61 And so a lot of the men drink, they drink, they come home. 00:15:48.64\00:15:52.65 And what do they do? 00:15:52.68\00:15:54.35 They beat the wife. 00:15:54.38\00:15:55.38 They beat their wife. 00:15:55.42\00:15:56.28 Yeah. 00:15:56.32\00:15:57.55 They just they just hit her in black in her eyes or whatever. 00:15:57.59\00:16:00.92 Yes. And the police don't stop them. 00:16:00.96\00:16:03.56 the police, 00:16:04.56\00:16:05.49 don't, stop them because the police feel that 00:16:05.53\00:16:09.13 this is not something which they need to interfere. 00:16:09.46\00:16:12.53 And, most of the time the woman is victimized. 00:16:13.23\00:16:18.14 Right. 00:16:18.41\00:16:19.07 And justice is not being done. 00:16:19.11\00:16:21.78 The problems women face in India 00:16:28.88\00:16:30.79 and other developing countries can only be solved from within. 00:16:30.82\00:16:34.62 As we educate women, 00:16:35.06\00:16:36.39 they are set on the path to freedom and equal justice. 00:16:36.42\00:16:39.69 Additionally, as women find their place 00:16:40.46\00:16:43.03 in the community as village health workers, 00:16:43.06\00:16:45.07 they are seen as vital to the social structure. 00:16:45.10\00:16:48.50 By earning an income and saving lives, they gain value 00:16:49.44\00:16:52.71 in the eyes of the male dominated society. 00:16:52.74\00:16:55.81 Even more important than this is the introduction 00:16:56.31\00:16:59.11 of Christianity into an idol worshiping culture. 00:16:59.15\00:17:02.42 The teachings of Jesus Christ 00:17:03.79\00:17:05.65 leave no room for domination and abuse. 00:17:05.69\00:17:08.69 One of Ultimate Mission's 00:17:09.66\00:17:11.03 main goals is to improve the lives of women, 00:17:11.06\00:17:14.46 which in turn improve the lives of us all. 00:17:14.50\00:17:18.10 The Bible tells us in Galatians 3:28, 00:17:19.67\00:17:22.74 there's neither Jew nor Greek. 00:17:23.94\00:17:25.94 There is neither slave nor free. 00:17:25.97\00:17:28.01 There is neither male nor female. 00:17:28.04\00:17:31.11 For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 00:17:31.55\00:17:34.62 All right. Jim, 00:17:52.77\00:17:55.07 I'm sorry. No. 00:17:55.10\00:17:58.01 That was that was amazing. 00:17:58.04\00:18:00.64 I well, I've got so much going through my heart in my head 00:18:00.68\00:18:04.41 right now. 00:18:04.45\00:18:05.11 Wow. That was very, very moving. 00:18:05.15\00:18:08.25 I was so it was amazing how God brought this about, because 00:18:08.52\00:18:12.85 I think I talked to you last time when we spoke. 00:18:13.86\00:18:16.22 Last time I talked about a doctor 00:18:16.26\00:18:18.06 that was coming with me to do the mental health program. 00:18:18.09\00:18:20.40 Right. 00:18:20.43\00:18:21.46 Because we were instituting a mental health program. 00:18:21.50\00:18:22.63 And and so we did classes on suicide and depression and, 00:18:22.66\00:18:26.57 and how to recognize suicide. 00:18:26.74\00:18:28.90 But it turned out that he had a health problem. 00:18:28.94\00:18:30.84 He couldn't come. 00:18:30.87\00:18:32.37 So I had to to do the classes myself. 00:18:32.41\00:18:35.58 And I've had some background in mental health, classes 00:18:35.61\00:18:39.01 and things like that, but not enough, 00:18:39.05\00:18:40.82 I didn't think, and I didn't, but I got a hold of a therapist 00:18:40.85\00:18:43.92 who helped me put the classes together. 00:18:43.95\00:18:45.25 I did the classes, and when I did the classes, 00:18:45.29\00:18:47.72 what happened is the women started 00:18:47.76\00:18:49.66 opening up to me, really? 00:18:49.69\00:18:51.36 And they started telling me stories 00:18:51.39\00:18:52.99 and they started telling me things that were happening. 00:18:53.03\00:18:55.00 There was there was one woman in our group 00:18:55.03\00:18:57.83 that had been married and been beaten so badly 00:18:57.87\00:19:01.14 that she ended up coming back to her father. 00:19:01.27\00:19:03.77 Father was the Gospel Outreach worker, not her husband. 00:19:03.81\00:19:06.24 Thank God. Good. 00:19:06.27\00:19:07.58 but yeah, but she had gotten married, 00:19:07.61\00:19:09.24 and and her father was a Gospel Outreach worker, and she, 00:19:09.28\00:19:11.65 she had to come back home because she had been beaten. 00:19:11.68\00:19:13.88 So badly. 00:19:13.92\00:19:15.05 And, and these kind of stories that nobody ever tells. 00:19:15.08\00:19:17.25 I started hearing 00:19:17.29\00:19:18.39 and as I was hearing these stories 00:19:18.42\00:19:19.95 and putting everything together, 00:19:19.99\00:19:21.39 it started making me realize how important what we were doing, 00:19:21.42\00:19:25.26 because our ladies go out house the house 00:19:25.63\00:19:28.43 and they visit these women 00:19:28.46\00:19:29.93 that are going through this, and they have instructions 00:19:29.96\00:19:32.23 from us to watch for women that are being abused, 00:19:32.27\00:19:35.24 to watch for women that have lost children or whatever, 00:19:35.27\00:19:38.77 and taken from them. 00:19:38.81\00:19:40.94 And so 00:19:40.98\00:19:42.24 and watching this so as they're watching out for these women, 00:19:42.28\00:19:45.41 as soon as they find one 00:19:45.45\00:19:46.82 that they see suffering from depression, 00:19:46.85\00:19:49.25 they they're not eating as much as they did 00:19:49.28\00:19:51.49 or they're eating too much 00:19:51.52\00:19:52.79 or they're not sleeping anymore or they're sleeping too much. 00:19:52.82\00:19:55.12 You know, some of these, these depressions, signs, 00:19:55.16\00:19:57.39 they start seeing this, and then they start 00:19:57.43\00:19:59.23 working with them and praying with them 00:19:59.26\00:20:00.96 and building a community of church members around them 00:20:00.96\00:20:04.07 and, and also doing, 00:20:04.10\00:20:06.43 trying to get them in touch with a medical professional 00:20:06.47\00:20:09.30 and help, mental health professionals. 00:20:09.34\00:20:11.31 So we've even got to the point where all these countries 00:20:11.34\00:20:14.48 have suicide prevention hotlines and things like that. 00:20:14.61\00:20:17.78 So all the girls have these on their phones, 00:20:17.81\00:20:19.98 they're just they're on their phones. 00:20:20.02\00:20:21.42 Oh, they're on their phone. 00:20:21.45\00:20:22.55 So they, they have access to all they have to do. Yes. 00:20:22.58\00:20:25.59 I made sure that they put them in their contact list, 00:20:25.62\00:20:28.69 the suicide prevention numberst. 00:20:28.92\00:20:30.73 So, you know, 00:20:30.76\00:20:32.56 these are just, 00:20:32.59\00:20:33.70 you know, they're they're Bible worker wives, right? 00:20:33.73\00:20:36.13 They're not trained professionals, 00:20:36.16\00:20:38.07 but they have enough training. They're exactly. 00:20:38.10\00:20:41.04 Yeah. The empathy is there and. 00:20:41.07\00:20:43.14 Yeah. Yeah. 00:20:43.17\00:20:44.37 Wow. Well, yes, I, I hope that any viewer 00:20:44.41\00:20:48.04 who is watching this is, is moved 00:20:48.08\00:20:50.11 like I have been moved because this is something 00:20:50.15\00:20:53.42 not only vital in India, but yes, this is vital 00:20:53.65\00:20:56.42 in countries around the world 00:20:56.45\00:20:57.99 because just what you said, you know, 00:20:58.02\00:20:59.62 someone who is withdrawn, there's something going on. 00:20:59.65\00:21:03.06 And granted, you know, we all are human. 00:21:03.09\00:21:05.19 We all have, times in our lives that, 00:21:05.23\00:21:08.16 you know, it's not going the best possible 00:21:08.20\00:21:10.43 maybe the way we want it to be, 00:21:10.47\00:21:11.80 but this is where we need to be reaching out. 00:21:11.83\00:21:13.94 But then you have all of these cultural things, 00:21:13.97\00:21:16.50 you know, heaped on top of that, the expectations 00:21:16.54\00:21:19.61 of all of that. So. 00:21:19.64\00:21:21.14 So they're saying that the girls are married to young. 00:21:21.18\00:21:24.25 So basically they're young and dumb 00:21:24.65\00:21:28.32 because they don't want them to go on to school. Right. 00:21:28.35\00:21:31.02 And then they get into this cycle of, of of everything. 00:21:31.05\00:21:34.56 So girl could be married young and and what'll happen sometimes 00:21:34.59\00:21:37.89 is, is the family would just have a party 00:21:37.93\00:21:40.16 and not tell the girl what's going on. 00:21:40.20\00:21:42.13 And during this party. 00:21:42.16\00:21:43.47 What during this party, this other family 00:21:43.50\00:21:46.47 will come to the party. 00:21:46.50\00:21:47.44 And one of the person in this other family 00:21:47.47\00:21:49.27 is her going to be your betrothed? Yes. 00:21:49.30\00:21:52.51 So in the middle of the party, they'll stop 00:21:52.54\00:21:54.38 and they'll say, this is your husband. 00:21:54.41\00:21:56.68 And and traditionally what happens is, is the women, 00:21:56.71\00:22:00.62 the girls go live with the in-laws. 00:22:00.65\00:22:03.92 In-Laws. Yeah. So. 00:22:03.95\00:22:04.95 So now 00:22:04.99\00:22:06.15 at the end of the evening, the girl is now going to live 00:22:06.19\00:22:08.62 in a village. 00:22:08.66\00:22:09.62 She's never been with people she's never met 00:22:09.66\00:22:12.13 with the husband that she just learned about. 00:22:12.16\00:22:14.56 Right. 00:22:14.60\00:22:15.53 I don't want to get to. 00:22:15.56\00:22:16.63 But he did the wedding night for that young woman. 00:22:16.67\00:22:19.60 Yeah. 00:22:20.74\00:22:21.84 It's not something that it just the whole thing. So. 00:22:21.87\00:22:24.27 So the whole start of it. 00:22:24.31\00:22:26.01 And the women feel, you know, why am I even born? 00:22:26.04\00:22:29.38 Right? Right. 00:22:29.41\00:22:30.31 Why, yes. I mean, you would have to. Yes. 00:22:30.35\00:22:32.21 Question yourself. 00:22:32.25\00:22:33.08 Right. but but the interesting thing 00:22:33.11\00:22:34.35 is, I mean, we've heard about you 00:22:34.38\00:22:35.38 study history, European history, things like that. 00:22:35.42\00:22:37.89 I mean, these arranged marriages, 00:22:37.92\00:22:39.35 I mean, this goes way back. 00:22:39.39\00:22:40.56 I mean, look at what happened to, poor Jacob. 00:22:40.59\00:22:43.22 You know, here he's thinking is going to marry 00:22:43.26\00:22:44.93 the woman he's worked for, and he gets the sister. 00:22:44.96\00:22:47.23 You know, all of this. But, I mean, again, here we are. 00:22:47.30\00:22:49.93 You know, in this time and yet we're still we're still there. 00:22:49.96\00:22:54.07 Well, Jim, this is this is huge. 00:22:54.10\00:22:57.17 and for us to partner together to make sure 00:22:57.64\00:23:01.14 that we're getting a niche here. 00:23:01.18\00:23:03.11 And then I want to tell the listeners that, 00:23:03.14\00:23:06.15 that you can sponsor a woman through Gospel Outreach. 00:23:06.18\00:23:09.52 So. Yeah. 00:23:10.02\00:23:10.62 So, so 00:23:10.65\00:23:11.85 they can call Gospel Outreach and talk to them and sponsor 00:23:11.89\00:23:14.46 one of these women. 00:23:14.49\00:23:15.56 And it helps Gospel Outreach because Gospel Outreach, 00:23:15.59\00:23:19.63 you know, that's our how our partnership works is, is is they 00:23:19.66\00:23:23.60 help me to do the training and to give the stipends, 00:23:23.63\00:23:26.60 but that helps them when these women are sponsoring. 00:23:26.63\00:23:30.01 Well, Jim, you touched my heart with that story. 00:23:30.37\00:23:33.17 And when you go back in the Gospel 00:23:33.21\00:23:35.18 Outreach workers have those wives love on 00:23:35.21\00:23:37.08 everybody and greet that lady who did the interview for us. 00:23:37.11\00:23:40.18 God bless you. 00:23:40.62\00:23:41.28 What does it mean to be a Gospel 00:23:43.35\00:23:46.32 Well, today I want to share a story 00:23:46.35\00:23:47.96 with you from the country of Bangladesh. 00:23:47.99\00:23:50.76 Bangladesh is about the size of the state of Wisconsin, but 00:23:50.79\00:23:54.23 it's more than half the population 00:23:54.36\00:23:56.16 of the entire United States. 00:23:56.20\00:23:58.60 Most people in 00:23:58.63\00:23:59.73 Bangladesh are Muslim, but there are also many Hindus 00:23:59.77\00:24:02.34 and Buddhists as well. 00:24:02.37\00:24:03.34 But less than 1% of the population, 00:24:03.37\00:24:06.64 according to the government, is Christian. 00:24:06.68\00:24:08.98 Now. Gospel Outreach supports many workers 00:24:09.01\00:24:11.25 throughout the country of Bangladesh, 00:24:11.28\00:24:12.81 but one of those workers in particular, his name is Tapon. 00:24:12.85\00:24:16.75 Now Tapon lives in a very challenging area 00:24:17.25\00:24:20.06 where for eight months out of the year, 00:24:20.09\00:24:21.59 the land is completely flooded for rice paddy fields. 00:24:21.62\00:24:25.16 People here 00:24:25.56\00:24:26.76 rely on growing rice and selling dried fish to make a living. 00:24:26.80\00:24:29.73 Rice and fish are also the main food for everyone in this area, 00:24:30.03\00:24:33.64 whether it be two meals a day, three meals a day. 00:24:33.67\00:24:35.74 All they're eating mainly is rice and fish. 00:24:35.77\00:24:38.74 The only way to get around in this area 00:24:38.77\00:24:41.21 eight months out of the year is by boat 00:24:41.24\00:24:43.88 Tapon, lives with his family on a small island. 00:24:43.91\00:24:46.82 He travels by boat to nearby islands 00:24:46.85\00:24:49.05 to share the love of Jesus. 00:24:49.08\00:24:50.75 Sometimes you'll find him working alongside the locals 00:24:50.79\00:24:53.49 in rice paddy fields, and other times you'll find him 00:24:53.52\00:24:56.36 praying for the sick 00:24:56.39\00:24:57.49 and sharing Bible stories with the people of the area. 00:24:57.53\00:25:00.53 Near Tapon's home is a small Adventist 00:25:00.70\00:25:03.10 church set apart on its own little island. 00:25:03.13\00:25:06.03 When the water is low, people can walk to the church, 00:25:06.07\00:25:08.57 but most of the year, 00:25:08.60\00:25:09.80 the only way to get to this church is by boat. 00:25:09.84\00:25:12.91 While serving the community 00:25:13.44\00:25:14.61 Tapon and his wife noticed a big problem. 00:25:14.64\00:25:17.71 Many children who desire a better education 00:25:17.95\00:25:20.15 have to travel miles by boat 00:25:20.18\00:25:22.22 and then walk to the nearest government school. 00:25:22.25\00:25:24.79 This journey is really far too difficult for young children, 00:25:24.82\00:25:28.36 so many are left without a chance for a good education. 00:25:28.62\00:25:32.56 This is where Tapon and his wife seen an opportunity. 00:25:32.99\00:25:36.70 He and his wife started holding classes in the church 00:25:37.13\00:25:39.70 during the week. 00:25:39.73\00:25:40.87 What started with a few children quickly grew to over 60 00:25:40.90\00:25:44.47 students in two classes split up in this small building. 00:25:44.51\00:25:49.01 The effort that Tapon and his wife have made in 00:25:49.64\00:25:51.98 the community has made a huge impact. 00:25:52.01\00:25:54.95 The classes 00:25:54.98\00:25:56.25 not only provide education but also open hearts to the gospel. 00:25:56.28\00:25:59.49 Tapon and his wife, use Bible stories in their teaching, 00:25:59.92\00:26:03.16 and the children often share these stories 00:26:03.19\00:26:05.36 with their families when they go home. 00:26:05.39\00:26:08.13 They have been amazed at 00:26:08.16\00:26:09.30 how the Lord has doubled their ministry 00:26:09.33\00:26:11.43 since they started the little school. 00:26:11.47\00:26:13.13 In the church, 00:26:13.17\00:26:14.34 they have both faced many challenges and sometimes wonder 00:26:14.37\00:26:17.64 how they will eat themselves. 00:26:17.67\00:26:19.64 But God has shown through to them. 00:26:19.67\00:26:21.18 Time and time again. 00:26:21.21\00:26:23.04 Their faith has grown stronger 00:26:23.08\00:26:24.61 as they have 00:26:24.65\00:26:25.75 witnessed his provision and care for them in their lives. 00:26:25.78\00:26:28.95 This is just one of many exciting stories 00:26:29.32\00:26:31.95 that come from our Gospel Outrea 00:26:31.99\00:26:35.19 working on the front lines 00:26:35.22\00:26:36.62 for Jesus throughout the 1040 window. 00:26:36.66\00:26:38.86 If you have appreciated this story
