Welcome to Adventures in Missions. 00:00:00.83\00:00:02.06 I'm Ken Crawford, board chair for Gospel Outreach. 00:00:02.10\00:00:05.03 Today, I want to introduce you to our president, Brent Scully. 00:00:05.07\00:00:08.77 And hear his life story. 00:00:08.97\00:00:10.57 You're going to find it inspirational. 00:00:10.61\00:00:13.04 And then we're going to have an interview with Dr. 00:00:13.07\00:00:15.61 Ed Dunn and his wife, Sheryl. 00:00:15.64\00:00:17.45 They're missionaries in India, and he's the head of the 00:00:17.48\00:00:21.05 Department of Health there. 00:00:21.08\00:00:22.68 And you're going to find 00:00:22.72\00:00:23.72 their center of influence that they've developed 00:00:23.75\00:00:26.42 and the training program. 00:00:26.45\00:00:28.36 Quite interesting and very profound. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.29 Some of the stories 00:00:31.33\00:00:32.36 that they're going to tell will bring you to tears. 00:00:32.39\00:00:35.40 Gospel Outreach presents Adventures 00:00:35.43\00:00:38.70 in Missions. 00:00:38.73\00:00:41.80 Being involved with foreign missions in my personal life. 00:01:17.31\00:01:19.91 It's made me alive. 00:01:19.94\00:01:21.24 It's made me feel like I have a purpose. 00:01:21.28\00:01:24.35 It's helped me contemplate God's purpose in me. 00:01:24.55\00:01:27.62 I'm Brent Scully and I'm president of Gospel Outreach. 00:01:27.88\00:01:34.29 What are you doing what do you got there? 00:01:34.32\00:01:36.36 No, it's been a great day today, so it's nice. 00:01:36.39\00:01:38.86 It's a good day to be doing, you know, setting stones. 00:01:38.89\00:01:42.60 I tried to 00:01:43.50\00:01:44.80 envision myself being a career person, like, 00:01:44.83\00:01:47.14 you know, going to school, getting an education 00:01:47.17\00:01:48.97 and having an office job somewhere that way. 00:01:49.00\00:01:51.77 And it became apparent that that's not what God had in mind. 00:01:51.81\00:01:54.58 So it just didn't work. 00:01:54.61\00:01:56.91 I barely graduated 00:01:56.95\00:01:58.91 from high school, seriously, 00:01:58.95\00:02:01.98 but I was really interested in in construction. 00:02:02.02\00:02:04.65 I felt like I could work with my hands 00:02:04.69\00:02:06.72 and I could understand complicated 00:02:06.76\00:02:08.69 building systems and stuff. 00:02:08.72\00:02:10.49 I just sensed that that's what God was leading me. 00:02:10.53\00:02:12.86 And so I went down that path and I started learning 00:02:12.89\00:02:16.03 about real estate, developing 00:02:16.06\00:02:19.13 rental properties, house flipping, 00:02:20.24\00:02:23.30 building, new home construction. 00:02:23.44\00:02:26.37 We developed the 17 lots over there and built over there 00:02:26.41\00:02:29.31 and lived in a house for a couple of years, 00:02:29.34\00:02:31.15 sold it, built another one and did that. 00:02:31.18\00:02:32.98 And so this is the one where 00:02:33.01\00:02:34.18 This has been a lot of years in the making. 00:02:34.22\00:02:35.52 It's been a lot of years in the making, yeah. 00:02:35.55\00:02:37.72 And this was after I had my conversion experience. 00:02:37.75\00:02:40.86 You know, I found Jesus. 00:02:40.89\00:02:42.36 He kind of started to plant my feet on solid ground again. 00:02:42.39\00:02:44.89 I had purpose and meaning in terms of 00:02:44.93\00:02:47.30 getting my life together and having him be a part of it. 00:02:47.36\00:02:49.86 I tell you, for the first almost 20 years of doing this, 00:02:49.90\00:02:54.97 I worked I worked hard and struggled 00:02:55.50\00:02:58.71 and I saw how God was helping me steer me in those areas. 00:02:58.74\00:03:03.21 It moves around just a little bit 00:03:03.24\00:03:04.91 when you walk on it, 00:03:04.95\00:03:06.05 but it's not going to go anywhere. Before you know it. 00:03:06.08\00:03:08.75 Now I've got a passive income 00:03:09.45\00:03:10.79 coming in because of my investments 00:03:10.82\00:03:13.12 and then Gospel Outreach opened up. 00:03:13.15\00:03:15.29 and I'm like, Wow, you know, Gospel Outreach. 00:03:15.32\00:03:18.29 What an amazing organization. 00:03:18.33\00:03:20.16 Other ministries that support mission work, you know, 00:03:20.20\00:03:22.73 they usually bring in Americans and they train them, 00:03:22.76\00:03:26.97 they work with them, and they have to, you know, 00:03:27.57\00:03:29.97 go through a whole process of teaching different cultures 00:03:30.01\00:03:32.91 and traditions to these people and language, Gospel Outreach, 00:03:32.94\00:03:36.54 just, you know, trains 00:03:36.58\00:03:38.48 indigenous people and I'm like that is an amazing ministry 00:03:38.51\00:03:41.58 because you don't have to spend all that costs and money. 00:03:42.08\00:03:44.12 And plus they understand their people 00:03:44.15\00:03:45.72 so well and culture and traditions and language. 00:03:45.75\00:03:49.09 I was asked 00:03:49.79\00:03:50.73 to be president of this amazing organization. 00:03:51.59\00:03:54.56 I was working as a director for another organization 00:03:54.60\00:03:57.23 and I'm like, Well, you know, I'm not really qualified. 00:03:57.27\00:04:01.44 And I had two speck houses on the market. 00:04:01.80\00:04:04.71 One was in contract 00:04:04.74\00:04:05.87 and the other had been sitting there for two years 00:04:05.91\00:04:08.88 and not a single bite. 00:04:08.91\00:04:11.05 So I said, Well, maybe this will be my fleece. 00:04:11.08\00:04:14.18 I'll kind of put it out there and say, Lord, 00:04:14.22\00:04:16.02 if you can find someone interested 00:04:16.05\00:04:17.72 or sell my house in a couple of weeks, 00:04:17.75\00:04:19.72 then I'll take that as you like me to move to Gospel Outreach. 00:04:19.75\00:04:22.79 I was really expecting 00:04:22.82\00:04:24.63 nothing to happen because it had been dormant for for two years. 00:04:24.66\00:04:27.73 But you know, 00:04:28.06\00:04:29.93 someone came and they pretty much had cash 00:04:29.96\00:04:33.37 and they bought my house within a couple of weeks. 00:04:33.40\00:04:36.47 That's definitely divine. 00:04:37.04\00:04:38.21 So it actually kind of surprised me. 00:04:38.24\00:04:40.01 And I wasn't I wasn't quite 00:04:40.04\00:04:41.78 ready for Gospel Outreach. 00:04:43.14\00:04:45.48 I had so much to learn 00:04:45.51\00:04:47.28 My favorite things is when I get started in the concrete. 00:04:47.32\00:04:50.32 And then the next favorite thing is when I'm finishing 00:04:50.35\00:04:53.36 and everything else in between is just busyness. 00:04:53.39\00:04:56.62 Because of the income and the investments 00:04:58.19\00:05:00.43 made for like rentals and stuff like that. 00:05:00.46\00:05:02.70 Passive income investments. 00:05:02.73\00:05:04.27 The income investments can can pay for me 00:05:04.30\00:05:06.90 to be a Gospel Outreach. 00:05:06.94\00:05:08.37 And so I can see God's trained me and leading me and guiding me 00:05:08.40\00:05:12.27 through all my experiences, and not just for me, my family, 00:05:12.31\00:05:16.54 but to be a part of this incredible plan in the end time. 00:05:16.75\00:05:20.98 And I just think, Wow, what an amazing opportunity. 00:05:21.75\00:05:24.62 I love it! When I can help others. 00:05:24.65\00:05:28.39 It takes my focus off self 00:05:28.76\00:05:30.36 and missions is really about others. 00:05:31.46\00:05:33.70 You know, it's a lay ministry. 00:05:33.73\00:05:35.70 It really is to see that 00:05:35.73\00:05:38.80 the hand of God working in people 00:05:39.03\00:05:40.74 who are just normal like myself, there's nothing really 00:05:40.77\00:05:44.81 extraordinary about myself. 00:05:45.21\00:05:46.34 I'm just a normal guy, 00:05:46.37\00:05:47.58 a working guy that builds houses and loves 00:05:47.61\00:05:50.35 to loves to construct things with my hands. 00:05:50.38\00:05:53.45 And on the other hand, that God 00:05:53.75\00:05:55.25 can still use people like me, normal people. 00:05:55.28\00:05:58.32 God is doing something very special 00:05:58.45\00:06:00.62 through Gospel Outreach. 00:06:00.66\00:06:01.52 I mean, Gospel Outreach to me 00:06:01.56\00:06:02.79 is the most incredible ministry in in the world. 00:06:02.82\00:06:06.73 You know, Bible workers in the Southern Asian Division, 00:06:07.46\00:06:10.07 75% of all baptisms are because of Gospel Outreach Bible 00:06:10.10\00:06:14.54 workers. So you can see the effectiveness of what we do and 00:06:14.97\00:06:18.07 or what the Bible workers do and what what 00:06:18.84\00:06:21.01 we do to support that. 00:06:21.04\00:06:22.11 Being a missionaries is not 00:06:23.38\00:06:24.81 only for those who can travel overseas, 00:06:24.85\00:06:26.68 but being a missionary is actually wherever you are 00:06:26.72\00:06:29.78 in your community, in your neighborhood, 00:06:29.98\00:06:31.79 in your sphere of influence, with your friends, 00:06:31.82\00:06:34.36 with your family, 00:06:34.39\00:06:35.76 because we're really missionaries 00:06:35.79\00:06:37.63 with our family too, first 00:06:37.66\00:06:38.96 Actually. our job is, I think as volunteers and Gods 00:06:38.99\00:06:42.13 kids is to be joined together in prayer, join together 00:06:42.16\00:06:45.93 in friendship, join together with this greater mission, 00:06:45.97\00:06:49.04 underneath us. God's 00:06:49.34\00:06:51.77 power, the Holy Spirit, and His 00:06:51.81\00:06:54.24 His Word, 00:06:54.28\00:06:55.18 just lifting us up and carrying us along 00:06:55.21\00:06:56.91 to really have an incredible message to the world. 00:06:56.95\00:06:59.25 I mean, we have an incredible message to the world, 00:06:59.28\00:07:02.48 a message of hope and love. 00:07:02.52\00:07:05.65 Hey, Dr. 00:07:45.86\00:07:46.96 Ed Dunn and Sheryl Dunn, it's a delight to have you here. 00:07:47.00\00:07:51.93 You sit on our board of 00:07:52.20\00:07:53.74 directors for Gospel Outreach and have for a number of years. 00:07:53.77\00:07:56.97 Tell us a little bit about 00:07:57.24\00:07:59.54 your missionary garb you were and where you live. 00:07:59.57\00:08:02.71 Well, we live in India. 00:08:03.24\00:08:04.25 We've been asked to 00:08:05.28\00:08:06.35 go there, and so we're part of the division there. 00:08:06.38\00:08:09.08 But this is what the traditional wear 00:08:09.12\00:08:12.39 for the men, it's not very fancy. 00:08:13.02\00:08:15.56 So, but the women, it's pretty nice. 00:08:15.59\00:08:18.99 Yeah. And how long have you been in India? 00:08:19.03\00:08:21.63 Five years. Five years Now. 00:08:21.66\00:08:23.97 You went as General Conference missionaries. 00:08:24.00\00:08:27.07 And what's your role there again? 00:08:27.77\00:08:29.60 I'm the Health Director for the Division, 00:08:29.64\00:08:32.27 and another title is Assistant to the President. 00:08:32.31\00:08:35.44 Okay. 00:08:35.48\00:08:36.51 And so you you're located at the Division Office. 00:08:36.54\00:08:39.98 And what city is that in? 00:08:40.12\00:08:42.15 Hosur, 00:08:42.18\00:08:43.02 It's a small city south of Bangalore, 00:08:43.05\00:08:46.05 right down in the southern part of India. 00:08:46.09\00:08:49.16 Uh huh. Okay. 00:08:49.46\00:08:51.06 And so what does it look like 00:08:51.09\00:08:52.89 What does a director of health for the 00:08:52.93\00:08:55.53 whole of India look like? 00:08:55.56\00:08:56.83 developing, 00:08:58.30\00:09:01.44 you know, usually 00:09:02.14\00:09:03.44 health directors, they coordinate 00:09:03.47\00:09:06.54 the health ministry 00:09:06.81\00:09:09.61 around the division. 00:09:09.64\00:09:11.11 So I work with each of the the the union directors 00:09:11.15\00:09:14.62 that are involved in the health ministry. 00:09:15.32\00:09:18.22 One topic that I've tried to initiate 00:09:18.25\00:09:21.36 this year is mental health. All of the topics 00:09:21.39\00:09:25.06 on mental health and try to raise that awareness. 00:09:25.09\00:09:28.23 So it's a topic that is not talked 00:09:28.70\00:09:32.60 about very much. Yet in the churches 00:09:32.63\00:09:35.14 we have many people 00:09:35.17\00:09:36.67 that deal with these issues, 00:09:36.71\00:09:38.14 but they don't know how to handle them. 00:09:38.17\00:09:39.47 And there's some simple ways we can use to, 00:09:39.51\00:09:42.64 you know, treat them. Sure. 00:09:44.25\00:09:45.78 And that's that's common in every country. 00:09:45.81\00:09:47.95 Yeah. 00:09:47.98\00:09:49.25 And probably India as much as any place. Right now in India, 00:09:49.28\00:09:52.72 India is known as the leader 00:09:53.69\00:09:57.53 in depression for the young people. 00:09:57.56\00:10:00.83 One of the reasons is is because of 00:10:01.06\00:10:03.80 the demands 00:10:05.00\00:10:06.47 on young people to succeed in education, 00:10:06.50\00:10:09.57 because education is one way out of poverty, 00:10:10.57\00:10:13.71 the other is media, social media. 00:10:13.98\00:10:17.05 They compare themselves with their friends 00:10:17.25\00:10:20.65 and they can never measure up. 00:10:20.68\00:10:22.52 So it's very depressing. 00:10:22.55\00:10:23.95 Again, worldwide challenge. 00:10:23.99\00:10:26.65 So, Sheryl, you were raised in India. 00:10:26.69\00:10:29.82 Your father and mother were missionaries there. 00:10:30.19\00:10:34.00 All of my high school years. 00:10:34.56\00:10:36.36 all your high school years in India. 00:10:36.40\00:10:38.50 So what does it meant to the two of you to be in India again 00:10:38.53\00:10:42.60 and to be in a role like you are? 00:10:42.64\00:10:46.04 I always had a dream that maybe someday 00:10:46.68\00:10:49.31 I could go back to India and work. 00:10:49.34\00:10:50.95 Oh well, for me it starts 00:10:50.98\00:10:53.95 when I was 12, 13 years old. 00:10:53.98\00:10:57.05 My uncle and aunt came back to our northern Canada farm. 00:10:57.49\00:11:01.89 Well, they were neighbors and they came back 00:11:02.46\00:11:04.86 and they had been missionaries in India for five years 00:11:04.89\00:11:07.96 and I have heard these exotic stories, you know, about India. 00:11:08.20\00:11:13.03 And I always I hoped that someday 00:11:13.30\00:11:17.34 I would be able to go in India and do some ministry 00:11:17.64\00:11:21.11 there of some sort. 00:11:21.14\00:11:22.78 And I couldn't believe that God led us there. 00:11:22.81\00:11:26.65 So, Sheryl, tell us a little bit about your 00:11:27.32\00:11:29.52 you started a center of influence 00:11:29.55\00:11:32.62 and explain a little bit about what that is. 00:11:32.75\00:11:35.12 Well, we we wanted to have a place 00:11:35.16\00:11:38.06 where people would come and basically receive 00:11:38.09\00:11:41.53 personalized help in their health issues. 00:11:42.26\00:11:45.93 In India, there's 00:11:46.57\00:11:47.80 an enormous amount of diabetes, mostly because of lifestyle. 00:11:47.84\00:11:51.14 The people just they they don't understand what causes disease. 00:11:51.91\00:11:56.68 And they go to their doctors and their doctors, 00:11:57.91\00:11:59.68 tell them what to do and they're happy to do, 00:11:59.71\00:12:01.65 just take all the drugs and everything. 00:12:01.68\00:12:04.52 So we opened the center we call it 00:12:04.55\00:12:07.62 Restore Health Center. Hmm. 00:12:08.12\00:12:11.43 And it's to treat naturally. 00:12:12.29\00:12:13.76 We don't promote drugs. 00:12:13.80\00:12:15.10 In fact, we don't. 00:12:15.13\00:12:17.33 Our goal is to get them off their drugs, off their medicine. 00:12:17.37\00:12:20.44 The first client that we had, or one of the first ones, was a 00:12:21.30\00:12:24.64 man that had had diabetes for 20 years. 00:12:24.67\00:12:28.21 Long time. Yeah. 00:12:28.51\00:12:29.61 And he was on 100 units of insulin a day, 00:12:29.64\00:12:32.08 which is the highest he can take, I understand. 00:12:32.11\00:12:35.18 And we worked with him 00:12:35.32\00:12:37.09 for three months and he was down to zero insulin. 00:12:37.12\00:12:40.86 Oh, he was so happy. 00:12:41.06\00:12:43.29 It was, yeah. 00:12:43.32\00:12:44.96 He was really happy. 00:12:44.99\00:12:46.46 So now you've launched a training program. 00:12:46.49\00:12:49.50 So tell us a little bit about the training. 00:12:49.53\00:12:51.17 Well, we need 00:12:51.20\00:12:52.30 we need we needed people to work in the center, right. 00:12:52.33\00:12:54.77 So we had to do a training program for them 00:12:54.80\00:12:57.07 to get people to work in the center. 00:12:57.11\00:12:58.74 Well, this training program is exciting. 00:12:58.77\00:13:01.38 Describe what your training program. 00:13:01.41\00:13:03.75 How long is it again? 00:13:03.78\00:13:05.18 The theory part is four months. 00:13:05.21\00:13:08.28 So four months, four months, four months. 00:13:08.42\00:13:10.95 And then there's a one month of practicum afterwards. 00:13:11.85\00:13:14.92 And so it's five months altogether. 00:13:15.46\00:13:17.26 And that's a 00:13:17.29\00:13:19.36 significant amount of time to take out 00:13:19.39\00:13:21.30 of your daily schedule or yearly schedule, too. 00:13:21.33\00:13:24.50 But people are committed 00:13:24.73\00:13:27.80 to do ministry, 00:13:28.37\00:13:29.40 and this is one way of reaching a lot of people. 00:13:29.44\00:13:32.47 So but the idea is lifestyle coaches. 00:13:32.51\00:13:36.68 Yeah. 00:13:37.28\00:13:38.38 So the idea of a coach is to get to know your client 00:13:38.41\00:13:42.42 and then spend time with them every day. 00:13:42.45\00:13:45.65 And then maybe every other day, the second week 00:13:46.42\00:13:49.59 or the third week. 00:13:49.62\00:13:50.76 So you're spending a significant amount of time with them, 00:13:50.79\00:13:54.40 so you're helping them with their health issue, 00:13:55.00\00:13:58.20 whatever that is, 00:13:58.23\00:13:59.33 but you're also of building a relationship with them. 00:13:59.37\00:14:01.94 The door is open to tell them about the Lord. 00:14:01.97\00:14:04.81 And for four months you have their undivided attention. 00:14:04.84\00:14:08.11 That's right. 00:14:08.14\00:14:09.21 It's actually a very concentrated university program. 00:14:09.24\00:14:12.71 It's, we start 00:14:13.01\00:14:16.05 what is it 6:30, 7:30 in the morning. 00:14:16.08\00:14:18.39 7:30 in the morning is worship and it goes right through 00:14:18.42\00:14:22.29 until 9:00 at night. And in the evening 00:14:22.32\00:14:25.73 It's a study hall. And our Sabbath programs, 00:14:25.76\00:14:29.26 we train the students how to run church programs. 00:14:29.30\00:14:32.53 Discussion, not another sermon for a Sabbath school. 00:14:32.97\00:14:35.70 We do choir. 00:14:35.74\00:14:36.84 They most people in India don't know how to sing parts 00:14:36.87\00:14:40.94 like we do over here. 00:14:40.98\00:14:42.54 So we do choir. 00:14:42.58\00:14:43.58 We end up with a four part choir and they love it. 00:14:43.61\00:14:47.02 So at the end of five months they graduate 00:14:47.25\00:14:50.32 and then they're ready to be hired. 00:14:50.92\00:14:53.66 Yeah, in the public sector or. 00:14:53.69\00:14:56.76 Yeah, we get requests usually within the church. 00:14:56.99\00:15:00.86 Yeah, 00:15:00.90\00:15:01.20 we get 00:15:02.20\00:15:03.33 requests from different places around India for workers. 00:15:03.37\00:15:05.47 And so we'll ask them, well, 00:15:05.50\00:15:07.17 what language group, which you know. 00:15:07.20\00:15:08.97 And so then we do our best to supply them with the workers 00:15:09.00\00:15:13.58 and some of our students, they go back home 00:15:14.14\00:15:16.64 to continue their own ministry, like some of them are pastors. 00:15:16.68\00:15:19.68 When they come to us 00:15:19.71\00:15:20.72 and they go back and it enhances their ministry. 00:15:20.75\00:15:23.79 Yeah, I saw some were physicians. 00:15:23.99\00:15:26.52 Some physicians. Yes, Yes. Yeah. 00:15:26.55\00:15:29.62 Janitors. Engineers. Really? 00:15:29.66\00:15:31.53 Yeah, IT people. 00:15:31.56\00:15:33.13 Wonderful! 00:15:33.16\00:15:35.83 So give me a story or two that inspired you about this. 00:15:35.86\00:15:39.80 Probably my favorite one. 00:15:41.14\00:15:44.21 I can't tell you her real name. 00:15:44.91\00:15:46.78 I'm going to call her Jebba. 00:15:46.81\00:15:48.04 Okay. 00:15:48.08\00:15:49.44 Jebba Was raised in a Hindu family, and she started reaching 00:15:49.48\00:15:53.38 out and she came she got in contact with another Christian 00:15:53.42\00:15:57.72 group. And she attended church there for a while. 00:15:58.22\00:16:00.72 When her father found out he beat her. 00:16:00.76\00:16:03.26 But she kept on going. 00:16:03.29\00:16:04.39 And then during COVID time, online, 00:16:04.43\00:16:07.46 she connected with an Adventist lady doctor. 00:16:07.50\00:16:11.00 And they did studies online and by and by this doctor 00:16:11.60\00:16:15.10 decided to come to our training and invited her to join. 00:16:15.14\00:16:18.77 And so she 00:16:19.81\00:16:20.78 came and she was at our training for five days. 00:16:20.81\00:16:24.41 Her parents didn't know where she was, 00:16:24.45\00:16:26.61 and they called her and said, Your grandfather's very sick. 00:16:26.65\00:16:30.29 You have to come back home. 00:16:30.32\00:16:31.79 So she packed up and wept and went back home. 00:16:31.82\00:16:35.72 And we didn't think we would see. 00:16:36.52\00:16:37.86 She didn't want to leave. 00:16:37.89\00:16:40.56 We didn't think we'd see her again. 00:16:40.60\00:16:41.83 But our next training, she applied again 00:16:41.86\00:16:43.73 and she's like, Please let me come. 00:16:43.77\00:16:45.87 I really want to finish this. 00:16:45.90\00:16:47.94 So we accepted her. She came back. 00:16:47.97\00:16:50.67 She was there for two or three weeks and her parents 00:16:50.71\00:16:53.68 called and said, Your sister was in an accident. 00:16:53.71\00:16:56.71 You have to come home. 00:16:56.75\00:16:57.71 And we're like, The devil is 00:16:57.75\00:16:58.88 really working on this girl he doesn't want her there. 00:16:58.91\00:17:03.02 We thought this was a ploy 00:17:03.28\00:17:04.59 by the parents to keep her away from the training. Yeah, right. 00:17:04.62\00:17:07.02 Yeah, sounds like it. 00:17:07.06\00:17:08.16 Yeah, but the girl had had an accident. 00:17:08.19\00:17:09.96 She was in a coma. 00:17:09.99\00:17:11.59 A couple of days later, she messaged me and said, 00:17:11.63\00:17:14.46 I want to come back. Please let me come back. 00:17:14.46\00:17:16.97 And we're like, Of course, come back. 00:17:17.00\00:17:19.73 She's like, When she came back, she said, 00:17:19.77\00:17:21.97 My parents don't care about me at all. 00:17:22.00\00:17:23.81 They just want my money. 00:17:23.84\00:17:25.57 I feel love here and I want to be here. 00:17:25.61\00:17:28.28 So after like towards the end of the training, 00:17:29.51\00:17:33.21 she took me for a walk on Sabbath 00:17:33.68\00:17:35.92 and she's like, Sheryl, ma'am, I want to be baptized. 00:17:35.95\00:17:40.19 Through the training, she had learned everything 00:17:41.26\00:17:43.19 she needed to be baptized. We cover the doctrines. 00:17:43.22\00:17:45.53 We cover experience with Jesus. 00:17:45.56\00:17:47.13 We cover how to surrender everything, you know? 00:17:47.20\00:17:50.47 So we knew she was grounded. Yeah. 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.57 And so Ed arranged for a pastor to come. 00:17:53.80\00:17:56.91 And she was baptized. 00:17:56.94\00:17:59.51 A few days before that, 00:17:59.54\00:18:01.18 she got a call from her, a good friend of hers, 00:18:01.21\00:18:04.28 and she didn't know that her father was in the same room 00:18:04.55\00:18:07.22 listening to this conversation 00:18:07.25\00:18:09.22 because her father didn't know where she was. 00:18:09.25\00:18:10.89 She hadn't been in contact with the family for some time. 00:18:10.92\00:18:13.96 And he said, you call and you 00:18:14.42\00:18:17.76 you ask Jebba about where she is and stuff. 00:18:18.06\00:18:20.70 I want to know. 00:18:20.73\00:18:21.96 So she told her friend, I'm here in Hour I am. 00:18:22.00\00:18:26.47 I'm taking this training 00:18:26.50\00:18:28.24 and in a few days I'm going to be baptized. 00:18:28.27\00:18:30.51 And the father grabbed the phone and he said, 00:18:30.54\00:18:33.41 If you're baptized, I will kill you or you'll die. 00:18:33.44\00:18:37.01 You're not going to stay living. 00:18:37.21\00:18:38.55 So the next day she took me for another walk, or that day 00:18:38.58\00:18:42.82 probably even, and she told me what had happened. 00:18:42.85\00:18:45.69 And I'm like, Jebba, what do you want to do? 00:18:45.72\00:18:48.19 What do you want us to do? 00:18:48.22\00:18:49.22 How do you want to deal with this? 00:18:49.26\00:18:51.56 And she said, 00:18:51.59\00:18:52.46 Cheryl, ma'am, I'm ready to die. 00:18:53.43\00:18:56.56 I want to be baptized. 00:18:57.10\00:19:00.24 Yeah... 00:19:00.50\00:19:01.94 Giving your all for Jesus. 00:19:01.97\00:19:03.77 That's right. 00:19:03.81\00:19:05.91 Yeah. 00:19:05.94\00:19:07.08 So you've been running this training program now what? 00:19:07.11\00:19:09.54 How many years? 00:19:09.58\00:19:11.41 Three. We've done. 00:19:11.45\00:19:13.82 We finished three batches. 00:19:13.85\00:19:15.82 We started before COVID, and the first our first training 00:19:15.85\00:19:19.29 program was cut right in half by COVID. 00:19:19.32\00:19:22.29 We switched from face to face in a classroom to online. 00:19:22.32\00:19:25.73 But it just it just didn't work. 00:19:25.96\00:19:28.46 How do you do massage online? 00:19:28.50\00:19:30.53 You know, how do you teach hydrotherapy online? 00:19:30.57\00:19:33.23 It just Yeah, sure. 00:19:33.27\00:19:34.87 And the students we had lots of people sign up 00:19:34.90\00:19:37.41 and nobody like they didn't finish it. 00:19:37.44\00:19:39.47 It just didn't work. 00:19:39.51\00:19:41.64 There was this one young man. 00:19:41.68\00:19:44.75 He was acquainted with us. 00:19:44.95\00:19:46.25 We knew him from campus. 00:19:46.28\00:19:47.65 He came to church and he kept talking 00:19:47.68\00:19:49.92 about our training, that he wanted to come, 00:19:49.95\00:19:51.65 but he never really committed. 00:19:51.69\00:19:53.46 And then he sent one of his friends to our 00:19:53.49\00:19:57.59 second training 00:19:58.63\00:19:59.29 we did. 00:19:59.33\00:20:00.60 And then his his friend did really well. 00:20:00.63\00:20:04.07 And so then he decided he was coming. 00:20:04.50\00:20:07.57 Well, there was a young lady that was coming too, and he 00:20:08.00\00:20:11.11 wanted to get to know her. 00:20:11.14\00:20:12.37 So but, you know, that's part of life. 00:20:12.41\00:20:15.48 But he was an engineer, a software engineer, 00:20:16.24\00:20:19.41 and he thought, well, 00:20:19.58\00:20:20.55 I'll take the training and I'll be able to help 00:20:20.58\00:20:22.98 with church ministry a little bit, but I'll do 00:20:23.02\00:20:25.39 most of my, you know, go back to my engineering work. 00:20:25.42\00:20:28.49 Partway through the training, it was about three quarters 00:20:28.52\00:20:32.16 of the way through. 00:20:32.19\00:20:33.26 He he talked to Cheryl and I and he said, you know, 00:20:33.29\00:20:35.70 I've come to a big decision in my life. 00:20:35.73\00:20:38.80 He said, 00:20:39.33\00:20:41.14 I'm not going to do this software engineering anymore. 00:20:41.17\00:20:43.91 I want to do 00:20:45.01\00:20:46.07 medical ministry full time. 00:20:46.11\00:20:49.24 Oh, whoa. 00:20:49.28\00:20:51.98 He said, This has changed my life. 00:20:52.01\00:20:53.78 What a commitment. Right. Right. 00:20:53.82\00:20:56.82 He said, the Lord has changed me. 00:20:56.85\00:21:00.46 And now he said, I can share with other people. 00:21:00.49\00:21:03.56 So, yeah, we were amazed. 00:21:04.06\00:21:06.73 Praise the Lord. 00:21:06.76\00:21:08.36 As our trainings continue, one after the other, 00:21:08.40\00:21:11.93 we get people that are already have a profession, sure, 00:21:12.50\00:21:16.34 but they want to come back 00:21:16.37\00:21:17.64 and learn some more about how they can enhance 00:21:17.67\00:21:20.64 the ministry that they already have. 00:21:20.68\00:21:22.38 It's rightly named the center of Influence because you think of 00:21:22.41\00:21:26.01 how this spreads all over India when these people 00:21:26.05\00:21:29.15 leave and go back to wherever they are and work. 00:21:29.18\00:21:32.35 I think it's a wonderful ministry. 00:21:32.39\00:21:35.19 So someday you're going to 00:21:35.22\00:21:37.16 finish your work there and you're going 00:21:38.19\00:21:39.96 to probably come back to Canada, the United States. 00:21:40.00\00:21:43.03 And as you reflect on your ministry over there, 00:21:43.53\00:21:46.94 what kind of an impact 00:21:46.97\00:21:48.27 do you think that it's made on your lives? 00:21:48.30\00:21:51.37 We were talking about that the other day. 00:21:52.24\00:21:53.94 We're so busy in India and at our age 00:21:53.98\00:21:57.05 thinking about retirement. 00:21:58.15\00:22:01.28 We can't just go back and sit in a church pew and do nothing. 00:22:01.78\00:22:05.85 Well, to 00:22:06.15\00:22:07.39 go back to what we were before would be very, very challenging. 00:22:07.42\00:22:10.16 Yeah, I bet it would. 00:22:10.29\00:22:12.23 Yeah. Yeah. 00:22:12.26\00:22:13.40 When you see the impact that you can have on people's 00:22:13.43\00:22:16.40 lives with what you do, it's got to be. 00:22:16.43\00:22:19.70 Yeah, it's, it's one thing for me to do 00:22:20.37\00:22:23.37 ministry of some sort. 00:22:23.41\00:22:24.54 You reach a certain group of people, but to train others 00:22:24.57\00:22:28.34 how to do that very ministry and you multiply the effect 00:22:28.38\00:22:32.41 and the reach the influence all over. 00:22:32.45\00:22:35.58 That's got to be profound. 00:22:35.62\00:22:37.09 Yeah. Well, thank you both. 00:22:37.12\00:22:39.55 It is such a front 00:22:39.59\00:22:42.36 line ministry to be involved in something like that. 00:22:42.39\00:22:45.86 So you're leaving to go back 00:22:45.89\00:22:47.93 to India here pretty quick and starting another program. 00:22:47.96\00:22:50.97 So Lord's blessing to you both. 00:22:51.23\00:22:53.44 Thank you. Keep praying for us. 00:22:53.47\00:22:55.54 Well, hello, everyone. 00:22:58.11\00:22:59.21 My name is Aaron Rittenour, and this is a new segment 00:22:59.24\00:23:02.18 that we are starting and adding into Adventures in Missions. 00:23:02.21\00:23:05.35 And through this segment, I want to be talking to you 00:23:05.38\00:23:07.75 about some of the new and exciting things 00:23:07.78\00:23:09.65 that are happening right now with Gospel Outreach. 00:23:09.68\00:23:11.99 This segment is going to be 00:23:12.02\00:23:12.85 great for people 00:23:12.89\00:23:14.06 who are invested in Gospel Outreach in any possible way, 00:23:14.09\00:23:16.79 even for people 00:23:16.83\00:23:17.63 who are just curious about the growth 00:23:17.66\00:23:19.69 and things that are happening on the ground. 00:23:19.73\00:23:21.90 But before I do that with this first segment, 00:23:21.93\00:23:25.00 I just want to kind of introduce myself 00:23:25.03\00:23:26.74 so that you know who I am. 00:23:26.77\00:23:28.27 So I got involved with Gospel Outreach in 2017, 00:23:28.30\00:23:31.54 and I was right away impressed with the way 00:23:31.77\00:23:35.28 that Gospel Outreach manages their money. 00:23:35.31\00:23:38.11 Now, this organization has always been primarily volunteer, 00:23:38.15\00:23:42.12 and so when you donate a dollar to this organization, 97 cents 00:23:42.15\00:23:45.79 of your dollar goes directly to the spreading of the Gospel, 00:23:45.82\00:23:49.99 which is just amazing that Gospel Outreach 00:23:50.03\00:23:52.96 has actually been able to do that. 00:23:52.99\00:23:54.30 It's all the Lord. It's not us, it's the Lord. 00:23:54.36\00:23:57.17 It's a blessing on this organization. 00:23:57.20\00:23:59.17 And I truly believe that the Lord has blessed 00:23:59.20\00:24:01.54 this organization 00:24:01.57\00:24:02.70 in such a major extent because of this style 00:24:02.74\00:24:07.58 in which we've been doing things for so long. 00:24:07.61\00:24:10.01 So when I got involved with Gospel Outreach, 00:24:10.05\00:24:13.05 I spent some time. 00:24:13.08\00:24:14.02 I went to India for two months with one of 00:24:14.05\00:24:15.88 the Gospel Outreach directors, and I was just right away 00:24:15.92\00:24:19.49 blown away. 00:24:19.72\00:24:20.92 The Lord drew me to wanting to be more intimately involved 00:24:20.96\00:24:24.06 with missions. 00:24:24.09\00:24:25.33 And creating video content has always been a passion of mine, 00:24:25.36\00:24:28.16 and I started my own business. 00:24:28.43\00:24:29.86 I was filming a reality TV show and it was just meaningless. 00:24:29.90\00:24:33.87 We were scripting out fights. 00:24:33.90\00:24:35.57 We were doing 00:24:35.60\00:24:36.81 all of these things that just really meant nothing to me. 00:24:36.84\00:24:40.11 And so I came onboard at Gospel Outreach. 00:24:40.38\00:24:43.01 And ever since I've been here, we have been able to grow 00:24:43.04\00:24:46.21 some of the media department here. 00:24:46.25\00:24:47.92 We're making a lot of exciting changes. 00:24:47.95\00:24:50.52 My wife and I, back in late October of 2022, 00:24:50.55\00:24:53.96 we went over to Asia for five months to film a 00:24:54.22\00:24:57.33 new TV show for Gospel Outreach called Destination 10/40. 00:24:57.36\00:25:00.93 And so we spent our time in Asia living with the people. 00:25:01.26\00:25:05.13 It has always been my goal 00:25:05.17\00:25:06.97 to travel and to live with people in their villages. 00:25:07.00\00:25:10.14 My wife and I are willing to sleep anywhere. 00:25:10.44\00:25:12.27 We slept on concrete, we slept in the dirt, 00:25:12.31\00:25:14.88 we slept all over the place. 00:25:14.91\00:25:16.14 But the reason why I like to do things that way is 00:25:16.18\00:25:19.15 when you're a film team that comes in to a village 00:25:19.18\00:25:22.28 where there's an Adventist church, 00:25:22.32\00:25:24.59 maybe where 00:25:24.62\00:25:25.52 there's a Gospel Outreach Bible worker, 00:25:25.55\00:25:26.62 and you just run around, get the shots that you need, 00:25:26.65\00:25:29.46 and then you leave. 00:25:29.49\00:25:31.06 I don't think it looks very good. 00:25:31.09\00:25:32.56 I think it leaves a 00:25:32.59\00:25:33.83 a bad taste in the mouths of the people 00:25:33.86\00:25:36.23 who are watching and witnessing this happen. 00:25:36.26\00:25:38.23 It seems like we're taking advantage of them. 00:25:38.27\00:25:40.54 So my wife and I made it a point to go into these villages 00:25:40.57\00:25:43.74 and to actually live with them, to work with them. 00:25:43.77\00:25:46.44 We harvested rice in a rice paddy field. 00:25:46.47\00:25:49.21 Those are the things that we wanted to do. 00:25:49.24\00:25:50.98 And when we were working in that rice paddy field, 00:25:51.01\00:25:53.65 you know, in a country like India, 00:25:53.68\00:25:55.82 being that the color of skin that we are the country 00:25:55.85\00:25:58.55 that we're from, we're a high class 00:25:58.59\00:26:00.99 and so we're not supposed to be working in a rice paddy field. 00:26:01.02\00:26:03.79 So when we went to that rice paddy field, 00:26:03.83\00:26:06.33 everyone was shocked. 00:26:06.36\00:26:08.16 They could not believe 00:26:08.20\00:26:09.36 that we were out wading around in the mud, planting rice. 00:26:09.40\00:26:12.33 And so then that opened the door 00:26:12.37\00:26:14.20 for them to start asking the questions, 00:26:14.24\00:26:16.60 Why are you doing this? 00:26:16.64\00:26:18.47 And then that is 00:26:18.51\00:26:19.51 when we were able to explain to them that we're 00:26:19.54\00:26:21.38 all the same in Jesus. 00:26:21.41\00:26:23.14 And so we were able to start to break down that barrier of 00:26:23.18\00:26:26.95 of the cast system in India in the minds of so many people. 00:26:26.98\00:26:30.59 So this was a very exciting experience. 00:26:30.92\00:26:32.95 And our show that we filmed, 00:26:32.99\00:26:34.96 we are very proud of it and we're excited to be able 00:26:34.99\00:26:37.79 to show this to you. 00:26:37.83\00:26:38.76 The Lord blessed us immensely on the trip. 00:26:38.79\00:26:41.10 We were gone for five months and I got sick on the last week 00:26:41.13\00:26:44.87 before we flew home. 00:26:44.90\00:26:46.20 And it is unheard of to travel in a third world country 00:26:46.23\00:26:49.54 and not get food poisoning, not get sick in any way. 00:26:49.57\00:26:52.54 But the Lord kept us healthy 00:26:52.57\00:26:53.94 and we were able to produce this 13 episode show. 00:26:53.98\00:26:57.11 So it's called Destination 10/40 and we now have 00:26:57.41\00:27:01.35 a streaming service. 00:27:01.38\00:27:02.25 Gospel Outreach has a streaming service. 00:27:02.28\00:27:04.05 It's called GOTV Missions. 00:27:04.09\00:27:05.72 You can download it on your smartphone, 00:27:05.75\00:27:07.42 you can download it on your smart TV, just search, 00:27:07.46\00:27:09.59 GOTV Missions, 00:27:09.62\00:27:10.86 and we host media content for other Adventist 00:27:10.89\00:27:13.90 affiliated organizations as well. 00:27:13.93\00:27:15.76 So if you love missions or you love foreign missions, 00:27:15.80\00:27:18.73 if you want to stay up to date 00:27:18.77\00:27:20.77 with the things 00:27:20.80\00:27:21.87 that are happening, not just with Gospel Outreach 00:27:21.90\00:27:23.44 but with other organizations as well, 00:27:23.47\00:27:25.54 I highly recommend you download this app. 00:27:25.57\00:27:27.94 Also GOTV Missions is where we will be releasing Destination 00:27:27.98\00:27:31.91 10/40 before we ever broadcast it on the television stations. 00:27:31.95\00:27:36.28 The first place will be on the streaming service. 00:27:36.99\00:27:38.89 So if you are at all interested in watching the show, 00:27:38.92\00:27:42.19 download the app, check out Destination 10/40. 00:27:42.22\00:27:45.09 I really appreciate the time that you've given me today. 00:27:45.13\00:27:47.76 I only have this short amount of time 00:27:47.76\00:27:49.70 and we'll be giving you 00:27:49.73\00:27:50.67 some up to date statistics and information 00:27:50.70\00:27:53.77 about new things, more new, exciting things happening here 00:27:53.80\00:27:56.77 at Gospel Outreach. 00:27:56.81\00:27:57.61 But until next time, God bless you. 00:27:57.64\00:28:00.24 Get involved, and I'll see you in the next episode. 00:28:00.28\00:28:02.78 Well, thanks for being a part 00:28:05.61\00:28:06.65 of Gospel Outreaches, Adventures in Missions today. 00:28:06.68\00:28:10.19 I know that you probably found these stories 00:28:10.62\00:28:13.19 quite inspirational like I did. 00:28:13.22\00:28:15.32 If you want to hear more, go to Gospel 00:28:15.36\00:28:17.66 Outreaches website. 00:28:17.69\00:28:19.43 It's called goaim.org. 00:28:19.46\00:28:21.63 And there you'll find lots. 00:28:21.66\00:28:23.73 God bless you as you continue to minister for him. 00:28:23.77\00:28:26.84 I still have so many more stories I could have told. 00:28:27.34\00:28:27.67 Hi I'm Julie 00:28:27.70\00:28:28.50 host of the mission focused TV show 00:28:28.54\00:28:29.10 Adventures in Missions. 00:28:29.14\00:28:30.14 And on behalf of Gospel outreach we're inviting you 00:28:30.17\00:28:30.97 we're inviting you to a birthday party. 00:28:31.01\00:28:46.02
