So please stay tuned. 00:01:03.36\00:01:05.86 Gospel Outreach presents Adventures in Missions. 00:01:05.89\00:01:38.96 Gospel Outreach has been 00:01:38.99\00:01:40.53 publishing the newsletter pretty much since the very beginning. 00:01:40.56\00:01:44.07 So the point, of course, was to let people know what was going 00:01:44.10\00:01:48.14 on, where the needs, what the needs were, 00:01:48.17\00:01:50.24 and how people could help, as well as to inspire people 00:01:50.27\00:01:54.01 with stories from the mission field. 00:01:54.04\00:01:56.24 Oh yeah. 00:01:56.28\00:01:57.95 I'm. I'm Kevin Waite. 00:01:57.98\00:02:00.25 I've. 00:02:00.28\00:02:00.95 I've helped out here at Gospel 00:02:00.98\00:02:02.05 Outreach for a couple of decades now. 00:02:02.08\00:02:05.85 I've been working on the 00:02:05.89\00:02:07.22 newsletter since 2003 in various roles. 00:02:07.26\00:02:11.16 It's been my privilege to do so, 00:02:11.19\00:02:13.33 branching out into technical support with computers, 00:02:13.36\00:02:18.80 networking, even taking out the trash. 00:02:18.83\00:02:21.37 I enjoy all aspects and help out wherever I can. 00:02:21.40\00:02:31.41 We send out about 00:02:31.45\00:02:32.81 12,000 newsletters a month. 00:02:32.85\00:02:35.72 Some of that goes to Canada and is mailed out from Canada 00:02:35.75\00:02:39.35 to the gospel reach Canada subscribers and the rest goes 00:02:39.39\00:02:43.19 here in the States as well as some bulk 00:02:43.22\00:02:47.50 that's mailed out to ambassadors 00:02:47.56\00:02:51.50 that distribute them 00:02:51.53\00:02:52.80 in their churches, their local churches. 00:02:52.83\00:02:56.64 Yeah, this was this was an interesting story. 00:02:56.67\00:03:00.54 You know, the stories that have come out, I think have 00:03:00.58\00:03:04.75 they made 00:03:04.78\00:03:05.98 a real impression on people as far as inspiring them with 00:03:06.01\00:03:08.62 what's going on in the mission field. 00:03:08.65\00:03:10.72 I think here in North America, we tend to be removed 00:03:10.75\00:03:15.66 quite a bit from the mission field. 00:03:15.69\00:03:18.59 So, you know, the newsletter and the people 00:03:18.63\00:03:21.26 that have worked on it have have made a real impression 00:03:21.30\00:03:25.10 on me and inspired me. 00:03:25.13\00:03:27.84 Yeah 00:03:29.47\00:03:30.94 when Jesus said to go, yea, 00:03:30.97\00:03:35.28 I think a lot of us may just think in terms 00:03:35.31\00:03:38.88 of the disciples or missionaries 00:03:38.91\00:03:42.95 that go, 00:03:42.98\00:03:45.59 but I think it's a personal 00:03:45.62\00:03:47.92 imperative that Jesus is telling each one of us 00:03:47.96\00:03:52.09 that we all are part of this 00:03:52.26\00:03:56.46 grand storyline that stretches from 00:03:56.50\00:03:59.57 creation all the way to eternity 00:03:59.73\00:04:03.20 and as we can participate and as our eyes are open, as 00:04:03.24\00:04:07.84 as the Holy Spirit works with us, 00:04:07.88\00:04:09.61 we will find and discover ways that we can become involved. 00:04:09.64\00:04:17.85 Gospel Outreach is unique in tha 00:04:17.89\00:04:22.82 it's basically all volunteer. 00:04:22.86\00:04:27.00 It was started that way 00:04:27.03\00:04:28.96 30 some odd years ago with the idea that 00:04:29.00\00:04:33.70 rather than sending missionaries out and that maybe, 00:04:33.74\00:04:38.21 you know, people who live locally in various countries 00:04:38.24\00:04:41.94 that have a passion for sharing 00:04:42.14\00:04:45.65 their own testimonies and what Jesus is doing and 00:04:45.68\00:04:49.02 truths in the Bible could be used far more efficiently. 00:04:49.05\00:04:52.39 Their ability to know the language already, the customs, 00:04:52.52\00:04:56.89 the various religions or belief systems that are around them 00:04:56.93\00:05:01.06 to be able to build bridges of understanding far 00:05:01.10\00:05:04.00 easier than it would be for somebody, 00:05:04.03\00:05:06.67 you know, 00:05:06.70\00:05:07.00 coming in 00:05:07.04\00:05:08.17 fresh from the, say, the United States or North America. 00:05:08.20\00:05:10.87 And so you know, for that concept to be there 00:05:10.91\00:05:15.71 from the beginning in Gospel Out 00:05:15.74\00:05:18.35 the organization a lot different than many other organizations. 00:05:18.38\00:05:22.08 I think there's a place for virtually all ways of outreach. 00:05:22.12\00:05:37.17 One of the stories that ran 00:05:37.20\00:05:39.37 in the newsletter quite a few years ago now 00:05:39.40\00:05:41.90 was about a little girl named Dawn West. 00:05:41.94\00:05:46.11 She was four years old, 00:05:46.14\00:05:47.68 and we became aware of her here in the office, a four year 00:05:47.71\00:05:51.95 old girl with congenital heart lung defect. 00:05:51.98\00:05:55.45 She and her parents had heard about the work 00:05:55.48\00:05:57.59 being done in the Philippines through the Sulad 00:05:57.62\00:06:00.52 Student missionaries from Mt. 00:06:00.56\00:06:02.36 View College. 00:06:02.39\00:06:03.83 Well, Little Dawn, despite the fact 00:06:03.86\00:06:06.29 she was only four years old, somehow latched on to this 00:06:06.33\00:06:10.13 and she decided to raise funds and have a project 00:06:10.17\00:06:13.77 for raising funds. 00:06:13.80\00:06:15.04 So over the months, as the word spread about Dawn's passion 00:06:15.07\00:06:18.24 to help in the Philippines, more than $30,000 were raised. 00:06:18.27\00:06:24.91 Then, unfortunately, in January of 2007, 00:06:24.95\00:06:28.75 six year old Dawn died. 00:06:28.78\00:06:31.65 But she left behind a legacy in the Philippines 00:06:31.69\00:06:34.76 as Gospel Outreaches. 00:06:34.79\00:06:36.42 Littlest missionary. 00:06:36.46\00:06:38.43 That was a story that really, really touched my heart. 00:06:38.46\00:06:41.83 And we ran several little stories along the way about her 00:06:41.96\00:06:46.23 and her treckathons 00:06:46.27\00:06:47.60 and in different ways that she raised money. 00:06:47.64\00:06:50.01 And and as people read about it in the newsletter, 00:06:50.04\00:06:53.51 they ended up donating to it as well. 00:06:53.54\00:06:55.61 So she left behind quite, quite a legacy for a little girl. 00:06:55.64\00:06:59.35 And I missed hearing about her now. 00:06:59.38\00:07:05.82 I would 00:07:05.85\00:07:06.76 definitely encourage people to subscribe 00:07:06.79\00:07:09.49 to Gospel Outreach Adventures in 00:07:09.52\00:07:12.49 as easy as going to the website which is goaim.org. 00:07:12.53\00:07:18.83 That's G-O-A-I-M which stands for Gospel Outreach, 00:07:18.87\00:07:23.20 Adventures in Missions dot org goaim.org. 00:07:23.24\00:07:26.84 And it's really easy to find the online subscription form. 00:07:26.88\00:07:31.21 There takes all of about a minute to subscribe. 00:07:31.25\00:07:34.88 The newsletter comes in two different formats. 00:07:34.92\00:07:37.82 You can either have it as an e-newsletter, 00:07:37.85\00:07:40.52 which goes straight to your email box 00:07:40.56\00:07:43.76 on a monthly basis, or you can have the printed version, 00:07:43.79\00:07:47.86 or you can have both, really, if you want Both, 00:07:47.93\00:07:50.97 you'll definitely find inspiration in the pages. 00:07:51.10\00:07:55.50 You'll find encouragement as well. 00:07:55.54\00:07:58.21 You'll find perspectives on what's going on in in 00:07:58.24\00:08:01.41 the mission field. 00:08:01.44\00:08:03.65 Anyhow, 00:08:03.68\00:08:04.88 you'll see God's hand at work through through the stories 00:08:04.91\00:08:08.82 that you'll read. 00:08:08.85\00:08:26.40 Dan, it's wonderful to have you here. 00:08:26.43\00:08:28.40 And Adventures in Missions at Gospel Outreach. 00:08:28.44\00:08:30.87 It's good to be here. 00:08:30.91\00:08:32.14 So, Dan Neisner, you have been familiar with Gospel Outreach, 00:08:32.17\00:08:37.05 but we kind of did a big recruit job on you, didn't we? 00:08:37.08\00:08:41.55 Yeah, we were. 00:08:41.58\00:08:42.65 We've lived in Walla Walla 20 some years and then, 00:08:42.68\00:08:46.76 yeah, we've gone to the 00:08:46.79\00:08:48.29 the rallies regularly that you have here 00:08:48.32\00:08:50.63 and we're interested in supporting them 00:08:50.66\00:08:52.89 and aware of Gospel Outreach and the work you're doing. 00:08:52.93\00:08:55.10 And I went to the rally you had last October, 00:08:55.13\00:08:58.57 Gary Wagner and other people gave a little testimony 00:08:58.60\00:09:00.87 and I said, Well, you know, I can probably help out. 00:09:00.90\00:09:02.97 And I thought I'd give them a few hours here, a few hours 00:09:03.00\00:09:05.44 there, doing a little bit here 00:09:05.47\00:09:06.27 and there, and they got me involved. 00:09:06.31\00:09:08.31 And in six months or so, I was in Indonesia with Gary Wagner. 00:09:08.34\00:09:12.35 But mission 00:09:12.38\00:09:13.52 work is nothing new to you. No,, we've done some work. 00:09:13.55\00:09:17.12 I was a student missionary 00:09:17.15\00:09:18.22 a couple of years in Japan, and then my wife and I 00:09:18.25\00:09:20.82 and our kids, we served in Hong Kong. 00:09:20.86\00:09:23.12 I was chaplain there at the hospital. So wonderful. 00:09:23.16\00:09:25.66 So what's it like 00:09:25.69\00:09:26.76 for you to be back in Asia now with Gospel Outreach? 00:09:26.80\00:09:29.50 It was good and the durian was awesome. 00:09:29.53\00:09:32.43 So I knew that I like you. 00:09:32.47\00:09:34.84 We haven't talked about that yet. Oh, Isn't it good? 00:09:34.87\00:09:37.77 It is so good. 00:09:37.81\00:09:38.74 We got to Indonesia and the first thing we 00:09:38.77\00:09:40.21 I mean, within a few days 00:09:40.24\00:09:41.48 they brought us this big feast of durian. 00:09:41.51\00:09:43.55 We were Gary loves it too. 00:09:43.58\00:09:45.28 And we had a great time. 00:09:45.31\00:09:46.98 See, I knew we had a kindred spi there Dan. 00:09:47.02\00:09:48.65 So for 00:09:48.68\00:09:49.78 for people, a viewer who is thinking, 00:09:49.82\00:09:52.02 what are these people talking about? 00:09:52.05\00:09:54.56 Describe here quickly what a durian is. 00:09:54.59\00:09:57.16 A durian is a beautiful fruit, a little bit 00:09:57.19\00:10:00.03 domed on the outside, but each one of those domes, 00:10:00.06\00:10:02.53 it's very spiky. Extremely painful. Yeah. Yeah. 00:10:02.56\00:10:04.83 You think I was going to say which part you describing dan? 00:10:04.87\00:10:08.50 You don't pick it up with your bare hands. 00:10:08.54\00:10:10.34 Usually if you have leather gloves, 00:10:10.37\00:10:11.64 that's a great way or a bunch of newspaper 00:10:11.67\00:10:13.11 because they're pokey and they're very sharp. 00:10:13.14\00:10:15.21 They're not just a little bit sharp. No, very hard. 00:10:15.24\00:10:17.45 They're not. 00:10:17.48\00:10:18.38 I mean, a cactus, you can bend them over. 00:10:18.41\00:10:19.88 But these are they're very hard and they're oblong. 00:10:19.91\00:10:22.78 Yeah, oblong and pretty good size fruit. 00:10:22.82\00:10:25.15 But the inside of each one of those little humps 00:10:25.19\00:10:27.29 there is is just as beautiful. 00:10:27.32\00:10:29.02 Well, they fruit, 00:10:29.06\00:10:29.89 they have to use a chisel and a hammer 00:10:29.92\00:10:31.73 to get those things in or something. 00:10:31.76\00:10:33.36 A good life will do it. Yeah. 00:10:33.40\00:10:34.63 So once you open the pillows of the durian, 00:10:34.66\00:10:37.20 then you can pick them up and they have a big seed inside. 00:10:37.23\00:10:40.44 But the flesh on the outside, it smells very bad. 00:10:40.47\00:10:43.91 Yes, many people. So yeah, you have to let it go like this. 00:10:44.07\00:10:46.71 You did it to your mouth. 00:10:46.74\00:10:47.71 The flavor is memorable 00:10:47.74\00:10:49.81 It's like custard, isn't it? 00:10:49.84\00:10:51.38 It's very sweet and very. 00:10:51.41\00:10:53.48 it's just wonderful. Yeah. Yeah. 00:10:53.52\00:10:55.55 So you have to have 00:10:55.58\00:10:56.95 the whole conversation about the durian, so. 00:10:56.99\00:10:59.12 Yes. Well, I'm glad we did that. 00:10:59.15\00:11:00.92 So, Gary Wagner, you brought Gary up, 00:11:00.96\00:11:02.86 so he is our regional director for which countries 00:11:02.89\00:11:06.06 for Southeast Asia is a regional director 00:11:06.09\00:11:08.23 and he and that includes Indonesia, 00:11:08.26\00:11:11.37 Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. 00:11:11.40\00:11:14.07 And there are some other countries 00:11:14.10\00:11:15.34 in Southeast 00:11:15.37\00:11:16.04 Asia that we're not working in 00:11:16.07\00:11:17.74 right now as Gospel Outreach, but hopefully soon. 00:11:17.77\00:11:21.24 So you and Gary travel together and this is more of a 00:11:21.28\00:11:24.55 scouting trip. 00:11:24.58\00:11:25.55 And what were you scouting besides durian Dan? 00:11:25.58\00:11:29.28 It was a scouting trip, but there's a number of gospel 00:11:29.32\00:11:31.75 outreach workers in each of those countries. 00:11:31.79\00:11:33.39 Gary had been there 00:11:33.42\00:11:34.46 a number of times before and gotten work started, 00:11:34.49\00:11:37.46 and so we were 00:11:37.49\00:11:38.59 supporting workers there and looking to train new workers 00:11:38.63\00:11:41.16 and support new workers 00:11:41.20\00:11:42.86 and looking for new possibilities 00:11:42.90\00:11:46.07 for Gospel Outreach to to take up the work. And. 00:11:46.10\00:11:49.20 And you found one? We found a beautiful place. 00:11:49.24\00:11:51.67 Yeah. Tell us about it. 00:11:51.71\00:11:53.11 Gary got this email. 00:11:53.14\00:11:55.54 shortly after we got to Indonesia 00:11:55.58\00:11:58.68 and he showed it to me and it talked 00:11:58.71\00:12:00.25 about a possibility in Thailand. 00:12:00.28\00:12:02.18 Well, we're in Indonesia, 00:12:02.22\00:12:03.82 but it was some 00:12:03.85\00:12:05.15 five or six weeks later we're in Thailand 00:12:05.19\00:12:07.92 and it worked out that we were able to visit 00:12:07.96\00:12:09.92 this place called Sunshine Orchards that had a school, 00:12:09.96\00:12:14.60 a large school that is growing dramatically. 00:12:14.63\00:12:17.90 And they wanted to see 00:12:18.03\00:12:19.73 if maybe Gospel Outreach wanted to help out there. 00:12:19.77\00:12:23.27 And so the school is has about 00:12:23.30\00:12:25.97 how many students there? Well when we were there. 00:12:26.01\00:12:29.08 We were actually there between school term. 00:12:29.21\00:12:30.91 So there were no children there 00:12:30.95\00:12:32.01 to speak of except for the home. 00:12:32.05\00:12:33.85 We stayed 00:12:33.88\00:12:34.55 and we stayed at Lina and Paul 00:12:34.58\00:12:35.52 Adams are the ones that started the school 00:12:35.55\00:12:37.12 and we stayed in their home 00:12:37.15\00:12:38.35 and Paul was in the States on the trip, but Lina was there 00:12:38.39\00:12:41.82 and they had like 28 kids in that home,. 28 kids! 00:12:41.86\00:12:46.09 I don't think they all belonged in the home. 00:12:46.13\00:12:47.76 I don't think they were all adopted into that home. 00:12:47.76\00:12:49.56 But they're all they're all there. 00:12:49.60\00:12:51.00 And what was that like? 00:12:51.03\00:12:52.13 You and Gary show up and you've got kids everywhere. 00:12:52.17\00:12:54.77 I love it. 00:12:54.80\00:12:55.90 It was a great setting and the kids are so well behaved 00:12:55.94\00:12:58.61 and the home is very, very well run and very well organized. 00:12:58.64\00:13:02.31 And the children took care 00:13:02.34\00:13:03.45 of the chores and the cooking and different things, 00:13:03.48\00:13:07.15 and they just had it scheduled out. 00:13:07.18\00:13:08.72 So Lina and Paul have have biological children. 00:13:08.75\00:13:12.22 They've adopted children. They've welcomed children. 00:13:12.25\00:13:14.36 Is that where they've gotten to the number of 28? 00:13:14.39\00:13:17.06 Well, the 28, like I said, I'm not sure with all those theirs, 00:13:17.09\00:13:20.26 but they were all there that day. 00:13:20.30\00:13:21.73 There may be I don't know how many they've adopted, 00:13:21.76\00:13:23.97 but the days couple of days we were there, 00:13:24.00\00:13:25.70 there were 28 kids in the house. 00:13:25.73\00:13:27.74 So give us a little history on Sunshine Orchards 00:13:27.77\00:13:30.71 and Lina and Paul. 00:13:30.74\00:13:32.04 Lina, is she 00:13:32.07\00:13:33.68 She she's from Sweden and she grew up there and 00:13:33.71\00:13:37.15 found the Lord. 00:13:37.18\00:13:38.58 And shortly after that she moved to the States and got married. 00:13:38.61\00:13:41.58 That didn't go very well. 00:13:41.62\00:13:42.65 They have a couple of girls from that marriage. 00:13:42.68\00:13:44.59 And finally he left the home. 00:13:44.62\00:13:46.76 So she she found another man and 00:13:46.79\00:13:49.92 have a couple more children, another daughter and a son. 00:13:49.96\00:13:53.26 And then he passed away from cancer. Wow. 00:13:53.29\00:13:56.83 And so she's had a lot of grief in her life. Yes. 00:13:56.87\00:13:59.73 She was living in Montana at a small church 00:13:59.77\00:14:01.97 and somehow the Lord brought another man into her life. 00:14:02.00\00:14:05.21 Paul, That's Paul just by chance. 00:14:05.24\00:14:07.81 And he was willing to take on this family. 00:14:07.84\00:14:10.45 And he has a heart for the Lord and a heart for mission 00:14:10.48\00:14:14.32 and a heart for kids. And they were going to 00:14:14.35\00:14:18.72 they were looking at their kids getting older, 00:14:18.75\00:14:20.56 and they realized they wanted their kids 00:14:20.59\00:14:22.46 to have a mission experience before they left the home. 00:14:22.49\00:14:25.89 And so they were planning to go to India. 00:14:25.93\00:14:27.96 Originally, that didn't work out, 00:14:28.00\00:14:31.60 but they decided then they had an 00:14:31.63\00:14:33.57 opening the door to Thailand and they had things planned. 00:14:33.60\00:14:36.81 And so they went to Thailand not knowing what they'd be doing. 00:14:36.84\00:14:39.64 And they got to 00:14:39.67\00:14:40.81 Thailand and went up to kind of northwestern Thailand. 00:14:40.84\00:14:44.05 And they got there and weren't 00:14:44.08\00:14:45.48 sure what they were, what the Lord wanted with them, 00:14:45.51\00:14:47.65 what are they supposed to do? 00:14:47.68\00:14:49.05 And they began to look and to figure out what was going on. 00:14:49.08\00:14:54.09 And shortly after they were there, there was 00:14:54.12\00:14:57.49 some civil war going on in 00:14:57.53\00:15:00.73 Burma, currently called Myanmar. 00:15:00.76\00:15:03.83 And many people 00:15:03.87\00:15:05.97 from that side of the border were flooding across the border. 00:15:06.00\00:15:10.01 And there were many, many children. 00:15:10.04\00:15:11.71 And it was 00:15:11.74\00:15:13.21 they were living at a place just oh 00:15:13.24\00:15:16.31 500 yards from the border or something like that. 00:15:16.34\00:15:18.45 There's a river that flows through there. 00:15:18.48\00:15:19.98 Yeah, oftentimes that's the case dividing countries. 00:15:20.02\00:15:22.78 And the Burmese army is very careful not to attack on 00:15:22.82\00:15:26.35 the Thailand side. 00:15:26.39\00:15:27.79 They don't want to 00:15:27.82\00:15:29.79 create any animosity with the Thai government. Anyway 00:15:29.82\00:15:33.06 But the people 00:15:33.09\00:15:34.36 they can get across the border, they often feel like thats safe. 00:15:34.36\00:15:36.00 And so they were there. 00:15:36.03\00:15:37.93 So they have all these refugees on the Thai side 00:15:37.97\00:15:40.17 and Lina and Paul are going, What do we do? 00:15:40.20\00:15:42.20 What do we do? 00:15:42.24\00:15:43.71 And they took them in and provided housing 00:15:43.74\00:15:45.84 and pretty soon they realized we needed a school. 00:15:45.87\00:15:47.38 So these kids have a future. 00:15:47.41\00:15:48.94 And so they started this school. 00:15:48.98\00:15:50.95 So what year was that? 00:15:50.98\00:15:52.55 2009, I think is when they got the school started 00:15:52.58\00:15:55.62 and they were able to purchase some property. 00:15:55.65\00:15:58.29 The property they have used to be a lemon orchard. 00:15:58.32\00:16:01.46 It was right near right like next door 00:16:01.49\00:16:03.46 to where they were living at the time. 00:16:03.49\00:16:04.89 And it's a little more expensive property. And 00:16:04.93\00:16:09.33 these people have put everything on the line 00:16:09.36\00:16:11.17 and they just happened to have they looked at Paul Savings 00:16:11.20\00:16:13.90 and they looked at Paul's savings from his retirement 00:16:13.94\00:16:16.84 and they looked at the 00:16:16.87\00:16:18.07 price of the school when it came on or the 00:16:18.11\00:16:20.21 the land when it came on the market 00:16:20.24\00:16:22.08 and it just covered it. Wow. They went ahead. 00:16:22.11\00:16:24.05 And it's amazing. 00:16:24.08\00:16:24.91 And these people are 00:16:24.95\00:16:27.12 they just listen to what the Lord says and follow him, 00:16:27.15\00:16:29.95 do the best they can 00:16:29.98\00:16:31.22 and provide and help and help fill a need there at the school. 00:16:31.25\00:16:35.46 So do the young people live there? 00:16:35.49\00:16:37.46 Is this a boarding school? 00:16:37.49\00:16:38.63 How does it work Dan? 00:16:38.66\00:16:40.46 we were talking about the growth of the school 2009. 00:16:40.50\00:16:42.86 Last year. 00:16:42.90\00:16:44.10 Last school year, they had about 360 students in the school. 00:16:44.13\00:16:47.57 And this year with the 65% increase in enrollment 00:16:47.60\00:16:50.67 they've started the school term started shortly 00:16:50.71\00:16:52.94 after we left in June, I think, and they had 600. Wow. 00:16:52.97\00:16:56.88 So a dramatic increase. 00:16:56.91\00:16:58.11 And I don't know exactly what percent is boarding students 00:16:58.15\00:17:01.78 and other students live in. 00:17:01.82\00:17:03.32 They find a place to live nearby, 00:17:03.35\00:17:05.35 or some of them are Thai students. 00:17:05.39\00:17:07.19 They come to that school. 00:17:07.22\00:17:08.36 I see. 00:17:08.39\00:17:09.66 So you've got Thai and Burmese students living together there. 00:17:09.69\00:17:12.63 You've got languages. 00:17:12.66\00:17:13.70 English, of course, is 00:17:13.73\00:17:15.50 kind of the one that brings them together. 00:17:15.53\00:17:16.97 But many of the Thai students obviously don't speak. 00:17:17.00\00:17:19.63 Karen, which is the Burmese language, 00:17:19.67\00:17:21.90 and the Burmese people don't speak any Thai or English. 00:17:21.94\00:17:25.17 So it's confusing. 00:17:25.31\00:17:26.81 But there are students, 00:17:26.84\00:17:27.84 there are children there, you know, 00:17:27.88\00:17:29.61 and even though six year old Lina doesn't understand Thai, 00:17:29.64\00:17:32.75 there's another little girl over here that does. 00:17:32.78\00:17:34.78 And so they can kind of make it work. 00:17:34.82\00:17:36.62 So here we have this couple, they have four kids. 00:17:36.65\00:17:38.85 And you're telling me that 00:17:38.89\00:17:39.72 when you were there, they had 28 kids. 00:17:39.75\00:17:41.42 Now we've got 600 kids between these campuses. 00:17:41.46\00:17:44.46 So it's not just one campus. 00:17:44.49\00:17:46.03 We have a total of two other satellites. 00:17:46.06\00:17:48.93 There's a couple other schools that they have helped 00:17:48.96\00:17:51.80 start up over on the Burmese side of the border. 00:17:51.83\00:17:55.84 Yeah, and up in the mountains. 00:17:55.87\00:17:57.41 And these are really up in the mountains they're. 00:17:57.44\00:17:59.84 There was we met the the leader of one of the villages 00:17:59.87\00:18:03.58 and he brought us to his home and fed us there. 00:18:03.61\00:18:06.55 And donated land for the school 00:18:06.58\00:18:08.75 because they want land for their school 00:18:08.78\00:18:11.22 and it's their school and the villagers 00:18:11.25\00:18:12.92 are providing the timber and whatever 00:18:12.95\00:18:14.42 it takes to make that work. 00:18:14.46\00:18:15.69 And it's exciting. 00:18:15.72\00:18:17.53 So yeah, there's two mountain schools, they call them, 00:18:17.56\00:18:20.50 that are satellite schools, part of that. 00:18:20.53\00:18:22.86 And here 00:18:22.90\00:18:23.67 these kids are learning subjects, 00:18:23.70\00:18:26.03 but they're learning about Jesus, too. right. 00:18:26.07\00:18:27.87 They're learning, you know, 00:18:27.90\00:18:29.04 Karen, everybody learns some Karen and Tai and English 00:18:29.07\00:18:33.07 and Bible and geography and history 00:18:33.11\00:18:34.81 and all the basic things 00:18:34.84\00:18:35.74 and they also try to have some vocational 00:18:35.78\00:18:38.85 training for the students, get some practical skills. 00:18:38.88\00:18:41.68 So, Dan, what's is the involvement now 00:18:41.72\00:18:43.92 with Gospel Outreach in Sunshine Orchards? 00:18:43.95\00:18:46.15 Well, our purpose of going there was to find out 00:18:46.19\00:18:49.26 what their needs were 00:18:49.29\00:18:50.89 and if Gospel Outreach 00:18:50.93\00:18:52.43 could fit in with our mission, if we could help them 00:18:52.46\00:18:54.63 or if we could work together somehow. 00:18:54.66\00:18:57.07 And we got there and Gary and I were overwhelmed 00:18:57.10\00:18:59.03 with many things, the number of kids 00:18:59.07\00:19:00.57 there, the the shoestring budget they were running on 00:19:00.60\00:19:04.64 and the enormous needs they had. 00:19:04.67\00:19:07.41 We were also very impressed that this young lady Anna their 00:19:07.44\00:19:11.21 youngest daughter, 00:19:11.25\00:19:13.55 Paul, and Lina's youngest daughter 00:19:13.58\00:19:15.58 is not an accountant by trade, but she was very skilled at 00:19:15.62\00:19:19.12 just putting all the numbers together. 00:19:19.15\00:19:20.56 She had big spreadsheets of the number of students 00:19:20.59\00:19:23.26 where they were staying, what their expenses were, 00:19:23.29\00:19:25.76 and of course, these are students 00:19:25.79\00:19:26.83 that can't really pay tuition. 00:19:26.86\00:19:28.70 You know, that's not really a possibility. 00:19:28.73\00:19:30.57 They have a number of 00:19:30.60\00:19:31.63 boarding students, so there's needs for building. 00:19:31.67\00:19:34.44 They just got a new building recently. 00:19:34.47\00:19:36.07 So I think they're pretty well 00:19:36.10\00:19:37.27 situated there. But if they keep growing, 00:19:37.31\00:19:39.54 they're going to need more buildings. 00:19:39.57\00:19:41.04 And for teachers and gospel as well, we can't do everything. 00:19:41.08\00:19:45.21 We can't help in every way. 00:19:45.25\00:19:46.18 But they agreed to help fund the teachers. 00:19:46.21\00:19:48.62 And that's just exciting. 00:19:48.65\00:19:49.98 This is exciting. Just reminds me of Paul and Lena. 00:21:09.13\00:21:11.63 They're building doing a work there. 00:21:11.67\00:21:13.97 Thats very important to be done, 00:21:14.00\00:21:15.14 but their eyes are not just on what's happening there. 00:21:15.17\00:21:18.27 Their school, their eyes are on what God has in store down 00:21:18.31\00:21:22.04 the road. 00:21:22.08\00:21:22.61 Yeah, He's got a plan 00:21:22.64\00:21:23.65 and God has come through for them so many times. 00:21:23.68\00:21:26.01 It's just been amazing. 00:21:26.05\00:21:27.38 Well, and that is the faith chapter, as we well know. 00:21:27.42\00:21:30.05 But just think about Lena. 00:21:30.09\00:21:31.45 I mean, here she left Sweden, comes to the States. 00:21:31.49\00:21:34.19 Now she's got all these kids that she's helping and yeah. 00:21:34.22\00:21:37.79 And she had no idea when she you know, she had no idea 00:21:37.83\00:21:42.00 where God was leading or how he was leading. 00:21:42.03\00:21:44.50 Just trusted him. 00:21:44.53\00:21:45.80 And when the need came up, she did her best to fill 00:21:45.83\00:21:48.30 that need. 00:21:48.34\00:21:49.14 And God is using her in a mighty way. 00:21:49.17\00:21:50.94 There she is. The 00:21:50.97\00:21:53.68 how is it? 00:21:53.71\00:21:54.18 She says in there, 00:21:54.21\00:21:55.41 in there, in the school there, she's the one that wants to, 00:21:55.44\00:21:58.35 you know, take in more kids and spend, spend, spend and 00:21:58.38\00:22:01.08 Anna has to help rein her in. Yes. 00:22:07.22\00:22:10.13 But she's seeing the need and maybe you've heard about 00:22:10.16\00:22:14.56 Katie Davis in Uganda, and she is a single woman 00:22:14.56\00:22:17.77 adopted these 11 kids. 00:22:17.80\00:22:19.03 And when you see the need, you know, you don't want to wait. 00:22:19.07\00:22:22.67 Your heart goes out and you want to help everybody. 00:22:22.70\00:22:25.24 So that that's powerful. 00:22:25.27\00:22:27.34 So, Dan, as we close here, what's something 00:22:27.38\00:22:30.88 that you might want to share with our viewers 00:22:30.91\00:22:32.75 as we've talked about Sunshine Orchard schools 00:22:32.78\00:22:36.05 and what would you like to impress upon their heart? 00:22:36.08\00:22:39.22 we have a world. 00:22:39.25\00:22:40.22 There's people that longed to know about Jesus. 00:22:40.26\00:22:42.06 They need to know about Jesus. 00:22:42.09\00:22:43.73 And life with Jesus is so much better. 00:22:43.76\00:22:47.03 And people there, 00:22:47.10\00:22:50.23 they have so many questions. 00:22:50.27\00:22:51.77 There's so many people with so many questions. 00:22:51.80\00:22:54.20 And when they find out about a creator God that made them 00:22:54.24\00:22:57.84 and makes life work and makes life work well, 00:22:57.87\00:23:02.14 it makes their lives. 00:23:02.18\00:23:03.35 It makes a huge difference. 00:23:03.38\00:23:04.81 And I being there, I saw so many lives of people 00:23:04.85\00:23:07.95 that have been changed by Jesus is just amazing. 00:23:07.98\00:23:10.62 And I'm just excited to be part of that. 00:23:10.65\00:23:12.49 Yeah, because he's changed mine 00:23:12.52\00:23:14.52 and we have a lot of lot to share. 00:23:14.56\00:23:16.29 So thank you for being here. 00:23:16.32\00:23:17.86 And when you head back next time, have a couple bites. 00:23:17.89\00:23:20.96 Well, have more than that of durian for me.
