I've been reading recently about

some of the history of
Christian work in India
00:04:27.17\00:04:33.67
and prayer has
had a big part in it.

There was a great
Christian revival in
00:04:37.06\00:04:41.16
well, just over 100
years ago around you know,
00:04:41.19\00:04:44.63
the turn from 1800s to 1900s.
00:04:44.66\00:04:48.08
And that revival
was born of prayer
00:04:48.11\00:04:52.29
and it was not amongst
Seventh-day Adventist Christians
00:04:52.32\00:04:55.13
we were just getting
started in India in those days.
00:04:55.16\00:04:59.06
But
Perspirations, Salvation Army,
00:04:59.09\00:05:03.59
Methodists had been
there long before we were.
00:05:03.62\00:05:07.36
And those were Godly
people and they prepare the way
00:05:07.39\00:05:11.68
for what God is doing
in Northern India today.
00:05:11.71\00:05:17.35
They prayed, they
were humbled about it.
00:05:17.38\00:05:21.75
One of those missionaries
00:05:21.78\00:05:22.81
who was there at that time
00:05:22.84\00:05:25.39
wrote a letter and
said something like this,

"Indians had learned
to look on us missionaries
00:05:28.36\00:05:34.18
as friends, as
people who would help them
00:05:34.21\00:05:38.71
as good workers
00:05:38.74\00:05:41.75
but they had not
learned to look on us
00:05:41.78\00:05:44.78
as men and women of God." Wow.

And that is
humbling effect on us.

Do the people who see us

realize that we have a
connection with God in prayer?

Now, over the
past 12 or so years

maybe its getting
close to 15 years now

there's been
wonderful resurgence

of Seventh-day Adventist
Christian work in India.

The membership has multiplied
00:06:19.23\00:06:23.91
by about 400% or
500% in those 15 years.
00:06:23.94\00:06:29.64
And it happened
because of prayer.
00:06:29.67\00:06:32.31
You see, in 2007
00:06:32.34\00:06:38.46
there was a change in leadership
00:06:38.49\00:06:40.77
in Southern Asia
division which is India,

Nepal, essentially Bhutan
00:06:42.98\00:06:46.20
and the multi violence nation
00:06:46.23\00:06:49.90
but Ron Watts was invited to be
00:06:49.93\00:06:55.80
the president of the
Southern Asia division.
00:06:55.83\00:06:59.05
He came there and he told me,
00:06:59.08\00:07:02.00
he said, I have been--
00:07:02.03\00:07:03.52
I and my wife have been
praying for the last 16 years
00:07:03.55\00:07:08.21
that we would have that
opportunity to institute
00:07:08.24\00:07:11.63
the plan of evangelism in
India that God has shown us.

Wow. And that plan went ahead.

Now, 16 years of daily prayer
00:07:18.26\00:07:21.23
and the results came
in the area especially
00:07:21.26\00:07:25.80
where they concentrated,
the membership jumped

to close to a million. Yeah.

Praise the Lord. Wonderful.

So the prayer
really changes things

and its working now too.

dependent upon God

in the life of
prayer. Yes, really.

This is something new.

and in that state
there are 200 million people

but the Lord is ready
to work in that state.

received $3,000 each

for what we called
"Project Taj Evangelism."

he came home soaking
wet from a thunder storm

and dead drunk.

She opened the door, he came in.

They began to
talk and he beat her,

just abused her terribly.

He caught Mahesh some

Well, you know it
distinguishes Christianity

in India from some other faith,

in that people worship
together in a congregation.

The Hindus don't very often
have congregational meetings.

They will have big, big
fairs or they call them,

they have a
special name for that.

Anyway, they gather
together in thousands

before an eclipse of the moon

or some other
auspicious occasion.

But they don't have
regular weekly worship

as a
congregation but Christians do

and they need to have
a place for that worship.

a place of worship,
a sanctuary, a building

in which to worship
gives a level of credibility

and respect that may not be
true of other religious groups.

to the gospel as well.
