Welcome to "Adventures in Missions" 00:00:16.40\00:00:18.06 with Gospel Outreach. 00:00:18.09\00:00:19.12 I'm Julie Sanders Keymer. I'm glad that you're here. 00:00:19.15\00:00:21.83 We are headed on a trip to the Philippines, 00:00:21.86\00:00:24.22 but before we do that, 00:00:24.25\00:00:25.32 I wanted to read a scripture from Psalm 133. 00:00:25.35\00:00:28.76 "How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together, 00:00:28.79\00:00:32.87 work together in unity." 00:00:32.90\00:00:34.24 And we're going to hear more about that 00:00:34.27\00:00:36.06 from Fred and Arlene Webb. 00:00:36.09\00:00:37.79 Welcome to "Adventures in Missions". Thank you. 00:00:37.82\00:00:40.61 So you folks are in charge of the Gospel Outreach workers 00:00:40.64\00:00:44.29 in the Philippines. Yeah. 00:00:44.32\00:00:45.95 And Fred, tell us a little about how the brothers and sisters 00:00:45.98\00:00:48.62 are working together in unity there. 00:00:48.65\00:00:50.44 Well, two years ago I had the privilege of working 00:00:50.47\00:00:52.82 with the Quiet Hour in Baguio city. 00:00:52.85\00:00:55.85 Now Baguio is a resort city up in the northern part of Luzon. 00:00:55.88\00:00:59.77 It's about 5,000 feet elevation so it's cool. 00:00:59.80\00:01:03.63 It's north of Manila. 00:01:03.66\00:01:04.71 Oh, its north of Manila about six hours by the car. 00:01:04.74\00:01:08.76 And it's up in the-- so it's up in the mountains, it's cool 00:01:08.79\00:01:11.28 and that's where people in the Philippines go to cool off. 00:01:11.31\00:01:15.21 And we had a series of meetings there, 00:01:15.24\00:01:18.56 we had ten venues 00:01:18.59\00:01:19.79 and one of those was in a place called Ecuab 00:01:19.82\00:01:22.68 I think that's an acronym for something 00:01:22.71\00:01:24.75 but I don't know what it is. E-C-U-A-B, Ecuab. 00:01:24.78\00:01:29.68 Anyway, at the close of the meetings, 00:01:29.71\00:01:31.84 of course, there were some baptized 00:01:31.87\00:01:33.77 and we recommended and mission placed 00:01:33.80\00:01:37.68 Gospel Outreach worker in Ecuav to nurture 00:01:37.71\00:01:43.02 and to lead this people along. Wonderful. 00:01:43.05\00:01:45.51 And so our first pictures shows is the Josue Budayao 00:01:45.54\00:01:51.12 and his wife who were assigned there. 00:01:51.15\00:01:54.13 And they began nurturing 00:01:54.16\00:01:56.81 but you know many people move around, 00:01:56.84\00:01:59.96 and they ended up not very many people actually stayed. 00:01:59.99\00:02:02.99 They moved to other places so they weren't very many 00:02:03.02\00:02:05.16 so they started giving Bible studies 00:02:05.19\00:02:07.10 and reaching out really good. 00:02:07.13\00:02:09.33 But because of Quiet Hour, they were assigned there 00:02:09.36\00:02:12.69 so we give some Quiet Hour some credit for this also. 00:02:12.72\00:02:16.35 And that's where the unity comes in. That's right. 00:02:16.38\00:02:19.47 And as they began to work, they met this man, 00:02:19.50\00:02:22.75 Arsenio and his wife Sally. Arsenio was a gold miner. 00:02:22.78\00:02:26.92 There's a lot of gold around Baguio City. 00:02:26.95\00:02:30.70 And he was a gold miner, 00:02:30.73\00:02:32.30 private man, has 35 employees 00:02:32.33\00:02:37.10 and they go digging back into the mountains. 00:02:37.13\00:02:38.82 I asked him if I can go back into the mountain with him, 00:02:38.85\00:02:40.66 he said no, no, no. 00:02:40.69\00:02:41.72 You wanted some gold, Fred. 00:02:41.75\00:02:43.04 Well, no, I just wanted to see how they did it. 00:02:43.07\00:02:46.04 And he said no, no, it's too dangerous. 00:02:46.07\00:02:48.02 I said what you mean. Why? 00:02:48.05\00:02:49.26 He said, well, you probably couldn't breathe back in there. 00:02:49.29\00:02:52.75 But he goes back in there with his men every day. 00:02:52.78\00:02:55.28 To find the gold. 00:02:55.31\00:02:56.34 To find the gold or they'll bring it out and they-- 00:02:56.37\00:02:59.41 And they probably don't wear masks and they-- 00:02:59.44\00:03:01.35 No, they-- safety? 00:03:01.38\00:03:02.98 Yeah, way bothered with that. Safety? What's safety? 00:03:03.01\00:03:05.60 Anyway, the Gospel Outreach found-- 00:03:05.63\00:03:08.89 worker found gold in Arsenio and Sally. 00:03:08.92\00:03:12.07 They wanted to study the Bible. Good, praise God. 00:03:12.10\00:03:14.67 And they studied and both of them accepted. 00:03:14.70\00:03:17.84 They became Seventh-day Adventists 00:03:17.87\00:03:19.84 but they had no place to worship 00:03:19.87\00:03:21.72 because when we held the meetings there, 00:03:21.75\00:03:23.05 it was, you know, big public gymnasium. 00:03:23.08\00:03:26.92 So he said, well, I have a big house. 00:03:26.95\00:03:31.48 Wow, that is a big house. 00:03:31.51\00:03:33.60 It's a tall house. Yeah. 00:03:33.63\00:03:35.73 And he had a large room downstairs. 00:03:35.76\00:03:39.31 He said, well, why don't we meet in my house? 00:03:39.34\00:03:41.79 And so the people come to church on Sabbath morning 00:03:41.82\00:03:45.91 coming down these steps and it is a long way down 00:03:45.94\00:03:48.65 because Baguio is steep. 00:03:48.68\00:03:52.02 It's built on hills and mountains, 00:03:52.05\00:03:53.90 not just hills with steep canyons all around. 00:03:53.93\00:03:56.40 But they're used to, they live there. 00:03:56.43\00:03:57.89 They're used to it 00:03:57.92\00:03:58.95 and so they came down these steps 00:03:58.98\00:04:00.97 to go to church on Sabbath morning. 00:04:01.00\00:04:03.91 There were several there. 00:04:03.94\00:04:05.83 Now this is the one individual 00:04:05.86\00:04:09.45 who's still left from the Quiet Hour baptism. 00:04:09.48\00:04:11.70 Oh. She is now a high school senior. 00:04:11.73\00:04:16.34 The only Adventist in her family 00:04:16.37\00:04:19.16 and the only one left, the rest of all moved away, 00:04:19.19\00:04:23.12 many of them were students. 00:04:23.15\00:04:24.97 And so others found jobs elsewhere 00:04:25.00\00:04:26.98 and they moved away. She's involved with the church? 00:04:27.01\00:04:29.58 She is very involved with the church 00:04:29.61\00:04:31.08 and she led out in a song service. 00:04:31.11\00:04:33.82 And a very delightful young lady to talk to, 00:04:33.85\00:04:37.31 she's just, you know, fresh and bubbly. Good. 00:04:37.34\00:04:41.15 She's got the joy of the Lord in her then. That's right. 00:04:41.18\00:04:44.43 And here she has another group of ladies working 00:04:44.46\00:04:47.38 with her singing special music 00:04:47.41\00:04:49.01 for this church on Sabbath morning. 00:04:49.04\00:04:51.01 Now what do the neighbors think about 00:04:51.04\00:04:52.76 all of this when they house churches like this? 00:04:52.79\00:04:55.60 Are the neighbors curious? 00:04:55.63\00:04:57.71 Have any of the Gospel Outreach workers 00:04:57.74\00:04:59.26 shared any of that with you? 00:04:59.29\00:05:00.71 I have not gotten the feedback on that. 00:05:00.74\00:05:02.78 Yeah, and just to be curious to know... 00:05:02.81\00:05:04.39 The neighbors are close. Yeah? 00:05:04.42\00:05:06.48 I mean they're right there. Right there. 00:05:06.51\00:05:08.05 Well, let's just hope that singing inspires them. 00:05:08.08\00:05:12.68 Most people in the Philippines are very cordial however 00:05:12.71\00:05:16.51 and are quite religious, 00:05:16.54\00:05:20.49 so they're tolerant of religious activities. 00:05:20.52\00:05:22.55 Oh, good, okay. 00:05:22.58\00:05:24.22 In fact, you know here in the States, 00:05:24.25\00:05:26.57 you can't have Bible in the school 00:05:26.60\00:05:28.96 or you can't have a prayer. 00:05:28.99\00:05:30.88 There they have prayer in school, it's very common 00:05:30.91\00:05:33.63 and they talk about religious things 00:05:33.66\00:05:35.48 so it's not a problem. Well, that's good. 00:05:35.51\00:05:39.34 This is the head in another area, 00:05:39.37\00:05:44.72 he was the Gospel Outreach worker, 00:05:44.75\00:05:47.31 he was assigned two areas close together 00:05:47.34\00:05:50.28 and so he's now built up two congregations, 00:05:50.31\00:05:53.18 each of them about 50. Good. 00:05:53.21\00:05:56.12 And they are meeting in separate places 00:05:56.15\00:05:59.64 but on this particular Sabbath they came together, 00:05:59.67\00:06:01.78 not all of them came together 00:06:01.81\00:06:02.92 but most of them did, the leaders did. Sure. 00:06:02.95\00:06:05.17 And we had a good fellowship together. 00:06:05.20\00:06:10.49 But the house is getting too small and we were-- 00:06:10.52\00:06:13.45 That's a great problem. 00:06:13.48\00:06:14.56 And they would like to join together 00:06:14.59\00:06:16.50 and so they have this Arsenio, 00:06:16.53\00:06:20.00 the gold miner has tried to do something about it. 00:06:20.03\00:06:23.31 Here are some of the people that gathered together 00:06:23.34\00:06:24.90 for church that day 00:06:24.93\00:06:27.21 and Arsenio found this piece of property. 00:06:27.24\00:06:31.71 Now in Baguio, property is very expensive 00:06:31.74\00:06:34.08 because it's outstanding on end 00:06:34.11\00:06:37.15 and they built on those steep hillsides. 00:06:37.18\00:06:40.20 And so he found this piece of property, 00:06:40.23\00:06:42.44 part of it is up on the level 00:06:42.47\00:06:43.64 where you see Josue standing there 00:06:43.67\00:06:46.17 and part of it's down below. It dips down. 00:06:46.20\00:06:48.03 So what they're trying to do 00:06:48.06\00:06:49.18 is to build a church up on the top level 00:06:49.21\00:06:53.03 and go out and the children would be 00:06:53.06\00:06:55.23 down below there for-- So--excuse me, go ahead. 00:06:55.26\00:06:58.56 So as they can have their services 00:06:58.59\00:07:00.32 and to have a place for the children as well. 00:07:00.35\00:07:02.48 So do you have any idea 00:07:02.51\00:07:04.37 how much that piece of land is right there? 00:07:04.40\00:07:07.32 Just a ball park? 00:07:07.35\00:07:08.61 It was about, I think it was about $3,000. 00:07:08.64\00:07:11.86 $3,000? Yeah. 00:07:11.89\00:07:12.97 And that's expensive for them. Yeah. 00:07:13.00\00:07:14.56 Arsenio put up half of that money as down payment. 00:07:14.59\00:07:17.43 Wow. Personally? Yeah. 00:07:17.46\00:07:21.36 That shows his commitment. 00:07:21.39\00:07:22.61 Some other donors have sent 00:07:22.64\00:07:24.30 some more money so they can make sure 00:07:24.33\00:07:25.75 that they can make the payments 00:07:25.78\00:07:27.43 on the property and get titled to it. Wow. 00:07:27.46\00:07:30.45 And this is a title property that which is a real problem 00:07:30.48\00:07:32.83 in many places in the Philippines as well. 00:07:32.86\00:07:37.21 People claim they own property 00:07:37.24\00:07:38.79 and try to sell it but they don't actually own it. 00:07:38.82\00:07:41.14 And they can just setup shop there, build a house 00:07:41.17\00:07:43.30 whether they own it or not? Yeah. 00:07:43.33\00:07:45.25 So when you buy, you have to make sure 00:07:45.28\00:07:46.81 you buy titled property 00:07:46.84\00:07:47.92 otherwise you might end up losing it. 00:07:47.95\00:07:49.84 Sure. So... 00:07:49.87\00:07:51.82 Oh, there we can see the terrace a little bit more. Right. 00:07:51.85\00:07:54.89 Arsenio and brother Budayao 00:07:54.92\00:07:58.31 standing together in the property 00:07:58.34\00:07:59.97 that they have basically they have purchased now. 00:08:00.00\00:08:04.24 Now they're going to try to raise money 00:08:04.27\00:08:05.47 to put up a building. Good. 00:08:05.50\00:08:06.90 So hopefully, their mission will help him with that. 00:08:06.93\00:08:10.13 So here are the two leaders of the two congregations 00:08:10.16\00:08:13.47 that were joined together to build this church. 00:08:13.50\00:08:16.94 So, Fred, help us again understand 00:08:16.97\00:08:19.04 what's the distance between the two congregations? 00:08:19.07\00:08:22.82 Will this be more of a challenge for them 00:08:22.85\00:08:24.37 to come together as far as walking up 00:08:24.40\00:08:26.25 through all these hills or will it be more convenient? 00:08:26.28\00:08:28.89 They will probably have to take 00:08:28.92\00:08:30.42 some kind of transportation to get here. 00:08:30.45\00:08:31.87 To get there, okay. 00:08:31.90\00:08:33.36 But that's why motorella, motorcycle with a sidecar. 00:08:33.39\00:08:37.85 Okay, that's called a motorella? Yeah. 00:08:37.88\00:08:40.89 I learned a new word. Or a tricycle. 00:08:40.92\00:08:42.56 Okay, I learned a new word. 00:08:42.59\00:08:43.62 Different names in different places. Okay, I got it. 00:08:43.65\00:08:44.68 Yeah, depends on where you go. 00:08:44.71\00:08:46.06 Motorella, it sounds like a combination 00:08:46.09\00:08:47.68 of a motorcycle and umbrella but... 00:08:47.71\00:08:49.37 Well, that's sort of what it is, top on it. 00:08:49.40\00:08:52.26 Okay, that's good, that's good. 00:08:52.29\00:08:53.63 So that almost fits that description. 00:08:53.66\00:08:56.66 But there are houses around there 00:08:56.69\00:08:59.08 that they would like to bring in. 00:08:59.11\00:09:02.68 If we can bring that picture back up again. Yeah. 00:09:02.71\00:09:07.36 These houses, you see 00:09:07.39\00:09:08.76 how they're kind of built on the hillside. Yeah. 00:09:08.79\00:09:10.72 And they're almost built right on top of each other. 00:09:10.75\00:09:13.64 With the stilts and all of that? Yeah. 00:09:13.67\00:09:16.51 So they have a work to do right there and hopefully, 00:09:16.54\00:09:20.45 they can build a church and fill it. 00:09:20.48\00:09:23.03 Now you mentioned the man who's the gold miner 00:09:23.06\00:09:25.34 so that's his job, he basically has two jobs 00:09:25.37\00:09:28.08 because he's working as a Gospel Outreach worker-- 00:09:28.11\00:09:29.68 No, no, no. 00:09:29.71\00:09:31.27 The gold miner was one 00:09:31.30\00:09:33.57 to the church by the Gospel Outreach. 00:09:33.60\00:09:35.10 Okay, all right, I misunderstood that, okay. 00:09:35.13\00:09:36.16 No, he's still a gold miner, that's his business. 00:09:36.19\00:09:38.28 So the Gospel Outreach worker, that is their job. Yes. 00:09:38.31\00:09:41.20 Should be a Gospel Outreach worker fulltime. 00:09:41.23\00:09:42.26 Fulltime. Okay. 00:09:42.29\00:09:45.23 Okay, our next one takes us to San Ysidro. 00:09:45.26\00:09:49.02 And we have a Gospel Outreach worker Rowell Ed-- 00:09:49.05\00:09:55.34 and he has just well, 00:09:55.37\00:09:57.01 transferred recently to this area, 00:09:57.04\00:09:58.62 I think it was the first of the year 00:09:58.65\00:10:00.63 and he is going to be holding some meetings. 00:10:00.66\00:10:03.08 He's showing us here the Barangay Hall. 00:10:03.11\00:10:05.61 Each town has a hall which is a meeting place 00:10:05.64\00:10:09.58 and as you see there at the far end 00:10:09.61\00:10:12.07 is a basketball goal, 00:10:12.10\00:10:14.95 that's the main sport there in the Philippines, 00:10:14.98\00:10:17.69 so every Barangay, 00:10:17.72\00:10:19.30 every village has to have a basketball court. 00:10:19.33\00:10:21.59 So it's kind of like the community center 00:10:21.62\00:10:23.43 /gymnasium/whatever? Right, right. 00:10:23.46\00:10:26.02 Eventually, civic center 00:10:26.05\00:10:27.60 and so they were going to beholding meetings 00:10:27.63\00:10:29.81 and the next picture shows us 00:10:29.84\00:10:31.84 some of the elders in the church, 00:10:31.87\00:10:35.68 workers that are going to be assisting him. 00:10:35.71\00:10:37.98 The meeting should be in progress now 00:10:38.01\00:10:40.34 but we have not had any recent report 00:10:40.37\00:10:43.10 but they were getting ready for it then. 00:10:43.13\00:10:45.33 Now we go to the town of Ramos 00:10:45.36\00:10:48.45 and our Gospel Outreach worker here, 00:10:48.48\00:10:50.54 his name is Raymond Santus? 00:10:50.57\00:10:54.62 Santos. Santos. 00:10:54.65\00:10:56.33 He and his wife and has a little girl. Cute. 00:10:56.36\00:10:58.98 And they--this is another, what you call a home church. 00:10:59.01\00:11:02.81 Just around the corner, less than a mile away, 00:11:02.84\00:11:05.47 we passed a big protestant church, 00:11:05.50\00:11:08.16 and that was a beautiful big church 00:11:08.19\00:11:10.37 and then we turned the corner, 00:11:10.40\00:11:12.31 we come down and here we come to our Adventist church. 00:11:12.34\00:11:15.32 Here's this little sign out there, 00:11:15.35\00:11:17.72 it's the Adventist church in the Ramos. 00:11:17.75\00:11:20.85 They had the gates, they opened up the gates, 00:11:20.88\00:11:22.56 you have a little courtyard 00:11:22.59\00:11:24.12 and then just beyond there is a room 00:11:24.15\00:11:26.82 actually it only has two sides 00:11:26.85\00:11:29.24 but they had some curtains there on the far side. 00:11:29.27\00:11:32.45 And this is on Sabbath 00:11:32.48\00:11:34.47 and on Wednesday night 00:11:34.50\00:11:35.58 preparing the church members meet. 00:11:35.61\00:11:37.47 Just a small congregation, 00:11:37.50\00:11:39.53 I think only about 25 or 30 and then just beyond 00:11:39.56\00:11:42.75 where the people are standing there 00:11:42.78\00:11:44.70 is another little just open area 00:11:44.73\00:11:47.01 and then there's a house, it's a small little house but... 00:11:47.04\00:11:50.10 And that's where the Gospel Outreach workers live. 00:11:50.13\00:11:51.75 Live. Okay. Yes. 00:11:51.78\00:11:53.50 And while we were there, the head elder 00:11:53.53\00:11:55.91 and his wife came over and we met them also. Oh, nice. 00:11:55.94\00:11:59.54 You know even in these conditions, 00:11:59.57\00:12:01.55 when you don't have much money, 00:12:01.58\00:12:03.30 they put out something for us to eat 00:12:03.33\00:12:04.79 no matter where we go. 00:12:04.82\00:12:06.21 Usually, its tropical fruit 00:12:06.24\00:12:07.82 but we really enjoyed it. Yes. 00:12:07.85\00:12:09.60 So they--yeah, everywhere we go, they provided food for us. 00:12:09.63\00:12:12.68 Very kind. 00:12:12.71\00:12:14.03 So that's a bigger place to tell people how they can join. 00:12:14.06\00:12:17.02 Absolutely, well, and we want to encourage 00:12:17.05\00:12:20.20 our viewers to give to Gospel Outreach 00:12:20.23\00:12:23.17 and that's where you can be involved. 00:12:23.20\00:12:25.29 At Gospel Outreach, we have a wonderful program 00:12:25.32\00:12:27.44 called Adopt-A-Worker 00:12:27.47\00:12:28.87 and we have some information 00:12:28.90\00:12:30.11 that we'd like to share with you. 00:12:30.14\00:12:32.61 Gospel Outreach began a mission 20 years ago 00:12:32.64\00:12:35.36 by asking one simple question. 00:12:35.39\00:12:37.60 In a world filled with famine, hunger and starvation, 00:12:37.63\00:12:41.48 what is Jesus waiting for? 00:12:41.51\00:12:43.95 In a world filled with earthquakes, 00:12:43.98\00:12:45.57 hurricanes and natural calamities, 00:12:45.60\00:12:48.03 what is Jesus waiting for? 00:12:48.06\00:12:50.68 The Gospel tells us in Matthew 24:14, 00:12:50.71\00:12:53.97 "And this gospel of the kingdom 00:12:54.00\00:12:55.43 shall be preached in all the world 00:12:55.46\00:12:57.07 for a witness unto all nations, 00:12:57.10\00:12:59.39 and then shall the end come." 00:12:59.42\00:13:04.03 Inspired by those words, 00:13:04.06\00:13:05.44 Gospel Outreach began with one worker 00:13:05.47\00:13:08.06 and over the past 20 years, it's grown into an organization 00:13:08.09\00:13:11.01 with 2,200 workers in 40 plus countries. 00:13:11.04\00:13:15.34 Gospel Outreach is an independent 00:13:15.37\00:13:17.18 Seventh-day Adventist lay ministry 00:13:17.21\00:13:18.96 run entirely by volunteers. 00:13:18.99\00:13:22.30 Gospel Outreach works with the organized church 00:13:22.33\00:13:24.63 to sponsor Bible workers in the 10/40 Window. 00:13:24.66\00:13:28.45 Now what exactly is the 10/40 Window? 00:13:28.48\00:13:32.13 The 10/40 Window is a region of the eastern hemisphere 00:13:32.16\00:13:34.95 located between 10 and 40 degrees 00:13:34.98\00:13:37.29 north of the equator. 00:13:37.32\00:13:39.08 What makes this region special? 00:13:39.11\00:13:41.68 97% of all the people in the world 00:13:41.71\00:13:44.23 who'd never heard the name of Jesus live here. 00:13:44.26\00:13:47.78 Now how exactly does Gospel Outreach work 00:13:47.81\00:13:50.31 to reach these people? 00:13:50.34\00:13:52.70 We do this by working with the church 00:13:52.73\00:13:54.43 as it places trained indigenous workers in new territories, 00:13:54.46\00:13:58.22 sending out disciples just as Jesus did. 00:13:58.25\00:14:01.76 When a Bible worker sponsored by Gospel Outreach 00:14:01.79\00:14:04.16 enters a new village, 00:14:04.19\00:14:05.41 it's estimated that in the first year, 00:14:05.44\00:14:07.44 an additional 300 individuals will be baptized 00:14:07.47\00:14:10.82 and commit their lives to Christ. 00:14:10.85\00:14:13.39 Individuals who have never heard 00:14:13.42\00:14:15.42 the amazing story of God's love 00:14:15.45\00:14:17.44 are getting to meet Jesus for the first time. 00:14:17.47\00:14:20.58 Now how can you help? 00:14:20.61\00:14:22.61 Bible workers rely on sponsorships 00:14:22.64\00:14:24.58 to support them and their families 00:14:24.61\00:14:26.44 as they share the unconditional love of God. 00:14:26.47\00:14:30.36 This is why Gospel Outreach is introducing 00:14:30.39\00:14:32.50 our Adopt-A-Worker program, 00:14:32.53\00:14:34.71 together with the church we identify new workers 00:14:34.74\00:14:37.83 and areas that need to be reached. 00:14:37.86\00:14:39.71 That is why it's our goal to introduce 00:14:39.74\00:14:41.60 a million new people to Jesus 00:14:41.63\00:14:43.37 in the next three years. 00:14:43.40\00:14:45.33 All that is remaining for this work 00:14:45.36\00:14:46.68 to begin is your financial help. 00:14:46.71\00:14:50.46 In return, we will keep you updated 00:14:50.49\00:14:52.59 on the exciting progress of your worker 00:14:52.62\00:14:54.94 sending you stories and pictures 00:14:54.97\00:14:56.83 of the lives changed by your donations. 00:14:56.86\00:14:59.78 There are three ways you can get involved. 00:14:59.81\00:15:02.31 You can be a prayer partner 00:15:02.34\00:15:03.43 for Gospel Outreach by praying for our Bible workers. 00:15:03.46\00:15:07.06 Second, become an ambassador for our Adopt-A-Worker program 00:15:07.09\00:15:10.15 by telling their family and friends 00:15:10.18\00:15:11.72 about how they can make a difference too. 00:15:11.75\00:15:14.27 And finally, sponsor a Bible worker. 00:15:14.30\00:15:17.16 Call or visit the website today. 00:15:17.19\00:15:20.42 So now that you know a bit about Gospel Outreach 00:15:20.45\00:15:23.11 and now that you know what Jesus is waiting for, 00:15:23.14\00:15:25.84 the final question is what are you waiting for? 00:15:25.87\00:15:31.77 And you can have an impact for the Lord 00:15:31.80\00:15:33.30 by adapting a worker in the Philippines for example, 00:15:33.33\00:15:36.86 for about $150 a month. 00:15:36.89\00:15:39.00 You can adopt a worker who is outgoing 00:15:39.03\00:15:41.05 and meeting with the people like the picture, 00:15:41.08\00:15:42.50 pictures that we've been seeing here from the Philippines. 00:15:42.53\00:15:44.49 They're meeting the people where they are 00:15:44.52\00:15:46.49 and they're sharing the love of Jesus with them. 00:15:46.52\00:15:49.01 And you can go to our website 00:15:49.04\00:15:50.46 goaim.org for more information. 00:15:50.49\00:15:53.92 So we're going to go back now with Arlene and Fred Webb. 00:15:53.95\00:15:57.45 They have been keeping in contact with the recent trip 00:15:57.48\00:16:00.31 with our Gospel Outreach workers in the Philippines. Yes. 00:16:00.34\00:16:02.58 So, Fred and Arlene, where are we going now? 00:16:02.61\00:16:05.01 Well, we are going-- 00:16:05.04\00:16:06.15 we started in the northern part of the Philippines, 00:16:06.18\00:16:08.27 now we're going to the very, very 00:16:08.30\00:16:09.66 southern tip of Mindanao. Okay, let's go. 00:16:09.69\00:16:12.31 Way to the south, 00:16:12.34\00:16:13.37 if we could have our first picture here 00:16:13.40\00:16:14.81 where we have Pastor Sagabi-- he's a former Sulu 00:16:14.84\00:16:18.27 that's a gospel student missionary 00:16:18.30\00:16:21.62 from Mountain View college 00:16:21.65\00:16:22.93 but now he's the evangelist for Southern Mindanao Mission 00:16:22.96\00:16:25.93 and he's the man on the left 00:16:25.96\00:16:27.59 and he's in charge of our mission outreach work there. 00:16:27.62\00:16:30.39 He's in the grey? Yes. 00:16:30.42\00:16:32.06 And therefore in charge of our Gospel Outreach workers. 00:16:32.09\00:16:35.12 Here we have five of our men, 00:16:35.15\00:16:39.17 the lady there one right is the wife of one of them 00:16:39.20\00:16:42.66 who I'll talk about later, was too far away to come in 00:16:42.69\00:16:47.21 and in a dangerous place 00:16:47.24\00:16:48.69 and she doesn't him dare go out there, 00:16:48.72\00:16:50.14 but we'll talk about that later. 00:16:50.17\00:16:51.53 But these other five are Gospel Outreach workers 00:16:51.56\00:16:53.81 and we are very pleased with their work in the past. 00:16:53.84\00:16:56.84 For the last several years, these men and the one lady 00:16:56.87\00:17:02.50 have been bringing in 00:17:02.53\00:17:04.41 a thousand baptisms a year. Wow. 00:17:04.44\00:17:08.81 Several years ago I visited Rey Dolotallas 00:17:08.84\00:17:11.72 who's the kind of the leader of the group, 00:17:11.75\00:17:14.61 the bald headed one on the left in the previous picture 00:17:14.64\00:17:17.48 and he has--he works through a singing group, 00:17:17.51\00:17:20.70 he keeps the kids to sing 00:17:20.73\00:17:22.45 and so these were B'laan tribe children 00:17:22.48\00:17:26.71 singing a special song for us. 00:17:26.74\00:17:28.48 And they're wearing, is this their national dress? 00:17:28.51\00:17:30.78 That's their B'laan tribal costume. B'laan. 00:17:30.81\00:17:34.69 Now that was taken 7 years ago. 00:17:34.72\00:17:36.98 This is the group today, 00:17:37.01\00:17:38.87 I was working with the Quiet Hour 00:17:38.90\00:17:42.46 as a speaker for our recent 00:17:42.49\00:17:45.90 evangelistic campaign we had there. 00:17:45.93\00:17:46.96 Working together again. Yes, the unity. 00:17:46.99\00:17:49.31 And I was meeting with all those men 00:17:49.34\00:17:51.93 that you just saw on the former picture 00:17:51.96\00:17:53.67 and they were saying that they have a singing group 00:17:53.70\00:17:57.36 they would like to bring to sing for us. 00:17:57.39\00:18:00.45 And so I said that's fine, I'll make arrangements for it. 00:18:00.48\00:18:03.35 And so the group came this one evening 00:18:03.38\00:18:05.86 and I was disappointed they wore new uniforms 00:18:05.89\00:18:08.25 but they said they've outgrown them. 00:18:08.28\00:18:10.27 But when they got up to sing, 00:18:10.30\00:18:12.20 although there was a little noise, 00:18:12.23\00:18:13.30 we have a lot of children at our meetings, 00:18:13.33\00:18:15.07 our meetings average from 400 to 600 a night. Wow. 00:18:15.10\00:18:18.95 And lot of kids so there's noise, 00:18:18.98\00:18:21.13 this group is getting up to sing you know, 00:18:21.16\00:18:24.17 the buzz arose but when they started to sing, 00:18:24.20\00:18:27.33 time they've done the first or second bar 00:18:27.36\00:18:29.75 it just quiet it down 00:18:29.78\00:18:31.64 and they did five songs right one after another, 00:18:31.67\00:18:34.84 no with the pausing, you know 00:18:34.87\00:18:37.04 and it was just beautiful 00:18:37.07\00:18:38.28 and the congregation was really moved 00:18:38.31\00:18:40.58 and touched by their singing. Wow. 00:18:40.61\00:18:42.11 So we're so glad that you came. 00:18:42.14\00:18:44.41 Now are they teenagers? College age? 00:18:44.44\00:18:46.25 Yes. Okay. 00:18:46.28\00:18:47.31 They're now, some years ago, they were children. 00:18:47.34\00:18:49.70 Right, right. 00:18:49.73\00:18:51.68 Okay, our next picture shows 00:18:51.71\00:18:55.12 one of our workers there Elias Bitoon. 00:18:55.15\00:18:57.80 Now he had moved to a new place that they move them 00:18:57.83\00:19:02.25 like where they build up a church you know. 00:19:02.28\00:19:04.99 And so I came to a new area 00:19:05.02\00:19:06.54 and about 50% of the people were Muslims 00:19:06.57\00:19:09.58 but the Muslims and the Adventists 00:19:09.61\00:19:12.01 are on good friendship 00:19:12.04\00:19:14.04 because our-- oh, just to me doctors 00:19:14.07\00:19:18.22 we have a lot in common. Sure. 00:19:18.25\00:19:20.51 Like the unclean meats. Dietary. 00:19:20.54\00:19:21.94 And we don't worship idols and we worship, 00:19:21.97\00:19:25.25 you know, the one God. 00:19:25.28\00:19:26.78 So he has no problem of love and affection there. 00:19:26.81\00:19:29.39 The other 50% are Catholics, 00:19:29.42\00:19:33.02 Protestants and the tribal people. 00:19:33.05\00:19:35.74 And they do a lot of friendship evangelism. 00:19:35.77\00:19:38.24 Going out and meeting people from other churches 00:19:38.27\00:19:41.45 or they even go and visit other churches on Sunday 00:19:41.48\00:19:44.90 and making friends. 00:19:44.93\00:19:46.21 Anyway, the man you see there, the taller man in the white, 00:19:46.24\00:19:50.74 he was a pastor of an evangelical church that he met 00:19:50.77\00:19:55.42 and his name is Dencio Enghang, something like that 00:19:55.45\00:20:00.06 and he was interested, 00:20:00.09\00:20:02.99 the pastor there on what do Adventist believe. 00:20:03.02\00:20:06.45 He was quickly into the Sabbath 00:20:06.48\00:20:08.74 and so Elias gave him bible studies 00:20:08.77\00:20:12.33 and he came two weeks ago. 00:20:12.36\00:20:15.01 On March 30, we had a big mass baptism there in General Santos 00:20:15.04\00:20:20.75 and another two which Fred will mention more 00:20:20.78\00:20:23.84 and this pastor was one that came. Wow. 00:20:23.87\00:20:28.12 Now the man in the center there with stick, 00:20:28.15\00:20:32.05 he is what they call a quack doctor. 00:20:32.08\00:20:34.62 A quack doctor? What is that, Fred? 00:20:34.65\00:20:36.93 A witch doctor. A witch doctor. 00:20:36.96\00:20:38.80 He dealt with the all of the different 00:20:38.83\00:20:42.01 incantations and things 00:20:42.04\00:20:44.00 and he is now accepted Jesus as his savior. Wow. 00:20:44.03\00:20:48.51 And he was preparing for baptism 00:20:48.54\00:20:51.09 and the day this picture was taken, 00:20:51.12\00:20:52.70 we were at the baptismal site 00:20:52.73\00:20:54.07 and he was just ready to go and to be baptized. Wow. 00:20:54.10\00:20:56.93 And Elias Bitoon is really been working hard there 00:20:56.96\00:20:59.81 and he brought 100 people for baptism that day. Praise God. 00:20:59.84\00:21:05.04 And this picture is another Gospel Outreach worker, 00:21:05.07\00:21:08.26 Noel Ming. 00:21:08.29\00:21:10.05 And he has just been one year in his spot, 00:21:10.08\00:21:15.63 getting acquainted with the people 00:21:15.66\00:21:17.59 and trying to assist their needs 00:21:17.62\00:21:19.39 and where he could really lead them. 00:21:19.42\00:21:21.79 And he decided to have a seminar on family life, 00:21:21.82\00:21:26.39 how to make the family happy and working together. 00:21:26.42\00:21:30.64 So he began a series and he'd only gone two weeks 00:21:30.67\00:21:34.97 when he had an accident on his motorcycle. Oh-oh. 00:21:35.00\00:21:38.54 And he was taken to the hospital, 00:21:38.57\00:21:40.33 he had many facial cuts, he had injury on the head 00:21:40.36\00:21:45.57 and his chest was hurting so he was put in the hospital, 00:21:45.60\00:21:49.13 of course, if you look carefully you might see 00:21:49.16\00:21:51.51 some of the ridges there where they sewed him up 00:21:51.54\00:21:54.59 and he had some things on his head, 00:21:54.62\00:21:56.29 you can see a place where it's still gone here back, 00:21:56.32\00:21:59.03 had a big bandage on his head. Bless his heart. 00:21:59.06\00:22:02.22 And but he came the night for the next meeting. 00:22:02.25\00:22:05.48 And he told the doctor I'm holding a seminar 00:22:05.51\00:22:08.38 and we have a meeting tonight 00:22:08.41\00:22:09.64 and I need to go and the doctor said no, 00:22:09.67\00:22:11.74 you cannot leave the hospital. 00:22:11.77\00:22:14.01 So after the doctor left, he said I must go. 00:22:14.04\00:22:17.26 So he got up out of the bed. No way. 00:22:17.29\00:22:19.08 Went to the cupboard, got his regular clothes, 00:22:19.11\00:22:21.46 took off his hospital gown, put on his clothes and he-- 00:22:21.49\00:22:24.06 He just discharged himself. 00:22:24.09\00:22:25.71 He went to the meeting, he held the meeting. 00:22:25.74\00:22:28.84 After the meeting was over, he went back to the hospital, 00:22:28.87\00:22:32.30 he took off his clothes, put it in the cupboard, 00:22:32.33\00:22:34.31 put on his gown and got back into bed. 00:22:34.34\00:22:37.12 That's a determinant man for the Lord I'll say. Right. 00:22:37.15\00:22:40.40 Three days later, the doctor did dismiss him 00:22:40.43\00:22:44.51 and he continued with his meeting 00:22:44.54\00:22:47.02 and on November 24th, this is 2012, 00:22:47.05\00:22:51.59 he baptized 33 people, 29 were new members 00:22:51.62\00:22:56.51 and four were former Adventists. 00:22:56.54\00:22:59.03 Then on February of this year, he baptized another 31. Wow. 00:22:59.06\00:23:04.47 From neighboring area and then at this man's baptism, 00:23:04.50\00:23:09.05 he brought 40 more people. Bless his heart. 00:23:09.08\00:23:11.37 So he has been very active working for the Lord. 00:23:11.40\00:23:14.13 I should say. 00:23:14.16\00:23:15.19 Now the next man we have there is Samuel Tambunan 00:23:15.22\00:23:19.38 and he worked in an area, when he got there, 00:23:19.41\00:23:22.25 they were having problems. 00:23:22.28\00:23:23.90 There was the native people 00:23:23.93\00:23:25.17 and then another people group had moved in 00:23:25.20\00:23:27.46 and they thought they were superior to the natives 00:23:27.49\00:23:30.01 and were trying to takeover their land. 00:23:30.04\00:23:32.35 So there was big friction 00:23:32.38\00:23:34.33 well, the Datu is the chief of the natives, 00:23:34.36\00:23:37.64 he called for a meeting where they get together 00:23:37.67\00:23:40.31 and to workout their differences and now Samuel had, 00:23:40.34\00:23:46.42 actually he had been a pastor of alliance church. 00:23:46.45\00:23:51.61 But he was baptized in 1980, 00:23:51.64\00:23:54.46 started working for the Gospel Outreach in 2000 00:23:54.49\00:23:59.04 and he spoke several languages, the native languages. 00:23:59.07\00:24:02.95 And so he was asked to be the translator 00:24:02.98\00:24:05.80 as they have these negotiations. 00:24:05.83\00:24:08.41 And anyway, the outcome was that the Datu decided 00:24:08.44\00:24:12.34 that the newcomers go back and you find land somewhere else 00:24:12.37\00:24:15.74 and the local Subanon tribe will keep their land. 00:24:15.77\00:24:20.88 They solved it out. 00:24:20.91\00:24:21.99 They solved it out and now he is a hero 00:24:22.02\00:24:24.90 and he's won the confidence of the people 00:24:24.93\00:24:27.14 and so then he began studies and this man-- Great. 00:24:27.17\00:24:30.80 This man had a baptism on January 12 of this year, 00:24:30.83\00:24:34.72 56 were baptized. 00:24:34.75\00:24:36.80 In February, he had another baptism 00:24:36.83\00:24:39.52 and 52 more were baptized. Praise God. 00:24:39.55\00:24:42.43 And when he came to the meeting 00:24:42.46\00:24:44.71 just couple of weeks ago for the baptism, 00:24:44.74\00:24:46.91 he brought 200 more people for that baptism. Wow. 00:24:46.94\00:24:50.75 This man, bless his heart, he is on fire. 00:24:50.78\00:24:53.47 Over 300 people. 00:24:53.50\00:24:55.14 The Lord has really been blessing his ministry. Wow. 00:24:55.17\00:24:57.78 The next man is Rey again, we have him 00:24:57.81\00:25:00.26 and he brought a large group to the baptism also. 00:25:00.29\00:25:04.42 He has been very active 00:25:04.45\00:25:05.90 and one of the things that he does is 00:25:05.93\00:25:08.55 to meet people at serenading, 00:25:08.58\00:25:10.91 takes his young people, his singers. Oh, really? 00:25:10.94\00:25:13.07 And they go to the doors of home on their birthday 00:25:13.10\00:25:17.39 and they go out 3 o'clock in the morning 00:25:17.42\00:25:20.43 and the people are sleeping. 00:25:20.46\00:25:22.61 He has translated many of our Christian songs 00:25:22.64\00:25:25.24 into their local dialect. 00:25:25.27\00:25:26.98 These are the native people in the mountains 00:25:27.01\00:25:29.77 and people are sleeping, all of a sudden, 00:25:29.80\00:25:32.07 they hear this angelic music 00:25:32.10\00:25:34.54 and as they finally wake up, they'll get up and get dressed 00:25:34.57\00:25:37.66 and come to the door and listen, if there's-- 00:25:37.69\00:25:41.29 house is big enough, they'll invite them in, 00:25:41.32\00:25:43.37 they have a prayer for the birthday celebrant. 00:25:43.40\00:25:46.91 They have a little message 00:25:46.94\00:25:48.42 and then they shake hands and get acquainted. 00:25:48.45\00:25:51.56 And at 3 a.m., the birthday person is not upset? 00:25:51.59\00:25:54.13 No, they enjoy the music, they feel honored. 00:25:54.16\00:25:56.74 They invite them in and give them the food either. 00:25:56.77\00:25:58.07 Isn't that something? 00:25:58.10\00:25:59.29 One of the reason it is the neighbor 00:25:59.32\00:26:01.93 the catholic minister excuse me, a Baptist minister, 00:26:01.96\00:26:05.01 neighbor, heard this beautiful music 00:26:05.04\00:26:07.46 and so he came out and after the group was done, 00:26:07.49\00:26:10.66 he asked them if they would come to his church and sing. 00:26:10.69\00:26:14.96 They accepted the invitation 00:26:14.99\00:26:17.42 and they were invited back again and asked to preach. 00:26:17.45\00:26:21.61 And as a result, many of the members of that church 00:26:21.64\00:26:24.51 then joined the Adventist church 00:26:24.54\00:26:26.41 and the minister said that he believed also 00:26:26.44\00:26:30.44 and he would have to make some arrangements 00:26:30.47\00:26:32.44 but he also wanted to join our church. 00:26:32.47\00:26:34.19 Isn't that fantastic? 00:26:34.22\00:26:35.46 From serenading, I love it. Well, praise the Lord. 00:26:35.49\00:26:38.04 Well, Arlene and Fred, thank you so much 00:26:38.07\00:26:39.85 for being here and the Lord bless you 00:26:39.88\00:26:41.52 as you continue to encourage the people in the Philippines 00:26:41.55\00:26:44.01 as they work on behalf of the Lord. 00:26:44.04\00:26:46.51 And thank you so much for joining us 00:26:46.54\00:26:47.98 here on Adventures in Missions. 00:26:48.01\00:26:49.51 I'm Julie Sanders Keymer 00:26:49.54\00:26:50.67 and we do hope that you'll donate here to Gospel Outreach. 00:26:50.70\00:26:53.52 Please visit goaim.org 00:26:53.55\00:26:56.94 and may the Lord bless you. 00:26:56.97\00:26:58.27
