00:01:07.03\00:01:11.10 Doug Batchelor: Many people believe that Muhammed 00:01:11.13\00:01:12.43 is inspiring. 00:01:12.47\00:01:13.94 And you might say, "But there's many things that he said 00:01:13.97\00:01:15.94 that are good and true." 00:01:15.97\00:01:17.44 That's true of every religion. 00:01:17.47\00:01:19.01 announcer: For over 40 years, Amazing Facts has been dedicated 00:01:21.51\00:01:24.55 to sharing God's Word through media. 00:01:24.58\00:01:27.48 This program features highlights from some 00:01:27.52\00:01:29.58 of our best television broadcasts. 00:01:29.62\00:01:32.32 We invite you to sit back and enjoy this edition 00:01:32.35\00:01:35.06 of "Amazing Facts Presents." 00:01:35.09\00:01:37.93 ¤¤¤ 00:01:37.96\00:01:42.20 Doug: We are continuing a series that will probably just 00:01:42.23\00:01:45.33 have about three parts to it, dealing with the subject 00:01:45.37\00:01:48.97 of Islam and Christianity in prophecy. 00:01:49.00\00:01:52.44 Last week, we talked about sibling rivalry and today 00:01:52.47\00:01:56.98 we're gonna be talking about From Mecca To Rome. 00:01:57.01\00:02:00.05 We explain these two great religions of the world, 00:02:00.08\00:02:02.08 largest religions of the world Christianity, 00:02:02.12\00:02:03.92 number one, about 2.2 billion. 00:02:03.95\00:02:06.42 Islam number two, 1.7 billion and there's varying numbers that 00:02:06.45\00:02:11.69 have been reported, but that's I'm picking a medium number. 00:02:11.73\00:02:15.53 It's anywhere between 1.5 and 1.8 billion Muslims 00:02:15.56\00:02:20.54 in the world. 00:02:20.57\00:02:22.27 While it is true most Arabs who are the people that descended 00:02:22.30\00:02:25.97 from Ishmael are Muslims, not all Arabs are Muslims. 00:02:26.01\00:02:30.01 There are some Arabs that have been Christians for 2,000 years. 00:02:30.05\00:02:34.72 There's Christianity when it spread through Egypt 00:02:34.75\00:02:37.02 and right now many of the Christians in Egypt 00:02:37.05\00:02:39.05 are being persecuted by the Muslims there. 00:02:39.09\00:02:42.49 And there are Arab Jews, believe it or not and I met them before. 00:02:42.52\00:02:48.93 And so, I just--and then also keep in mind that 00:02:48.96\00:02:53.30 of the 1.7 billion Muslims in the world, most are not Arab, 00:02:53.34\00:02:58.61 most of them are living in Pakistan, and north Africa, 00:02:58.64\00:03:03.68 and mostly Indonesia. 00:03:03.71\00:03:06.28 So, who are the Arabs? 00:03:06.31\00:03:08.08 If you go back to the Bible here if you look, for instance, 00:03:08.12\00:03:10.25 in Genesis 25, "Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac," 00:03:10.29\00:03:15.56 the son of promise. 00:03:15.59\00:03:16.89 "But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines," meaning 00:03:16.93\00:03:21.30 Hagar and Keturah, that he had; while he was still living." 00:03:21.33\00:03:25.67 So, he separated his substance* while he was alive like that 00:03:25.70\00:03:28.44 story of the prodigal son. 00:03:28.47\00:03:31.17 And he sent them away from Isaac, so there'd be no 00:03:31.21\00:03:34.21 confusion about what his plan, was to the country of the east. 00:03:34.24\00:03:38.81 They were sent to an area that is southeast of Israel, 00:03:38.85\00:03:44.32 better known as Arabia. 00:03:44.35\00:03:46.76 You can read in Genesis 25:18, speaking of the people 00:03:46.79\00:03:50.16 of Ishmael, "They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, 00:03:50.19\00:03:54.50 which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria." 00:03:54.56\00:03:58.53 I think most of you in your minds 00:03:58.57\00:03:59.90 have a little bit of geography. 00:03:59.93\00:04:01.37 Can you see the Middle East? 00:04:01.40\00:04:02.90 You know where Egypt is there by the Nile on the shores 00:04:02.94\00:04:05.61 of the Mediterranean? 00:04:05.64\00:04:07.01 You go east of Egypt, you end up in Saudi Arabia. 00:04:07.04\00:04:11.05 If you go through Saudi Arabia, almost no one went to Assyria 00:04:11.08\00:04:13.72 that way, you'd end up in Assyria. 00:04:13.75\00:04:16.28 This is the territory where the Arabs, 00:04:16.32\00:04:19.29 often called the Bedouins, found their home. 00:04:19.32\00:04:25.69 Where did Moses go when he was looking for refuge? 00:04:25.73\00:04:29.86 He fled to that same territory. 00:04:29.90\00:04:31.53 You can read in Exodus 2, verse 15, "When Pharaoh heard 00:04:31.57\00:04:35.57 of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. 00:04:35.60\00:04:37.44 But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land 00:04:37.47\00:04:41.61 of Midian; and he sat down by a well." 00:04:41.64\00:04:45.18 The people of Midian were--they're 00:04:45.21\00:04:48.82 the descendants of Keturah. 00:04:48.85\00:04:50.95 They intermarried 'cause they were all sent to the same place 00:04:50.99\00:04:54.69 with the children of Ishmael and so when we're talking 00:04:54.72\00:04:57.06 about Arabs today, you're talking about the people 00:04:57.09\00:05:00.10 who were the descendants of Abraham's third wife. 00:05:00.13\00:05:04.80 You got Sarah, Hagar, Keturah, Midian was one of those sons. 00:05:04.83\00:05:09.84 They are called the Midianites and sometimes 00:05:09.87\00:05:11.64 they're also called the Ishmaelites in the same phrase. 00:05:11.67\00:05:15.14 You remember last week, Joseph was sold to the Midianites 00:05:15.18\00:05:18.51 and it also calls them the Ishmaelites 'cause they 00:05:18.55\00:05:20.82 intermarried, and Esau married Ishmael's daughter. 00:05:20.85\00:05:24.69 So, there's a lot of kind of family 00:05:24.72\00:05:28.16 relationships happening there. 00:05:28.19\00:05:30.06 Those people grew into a great people, all related to Abraham, 00:05:30.09\00:05:36.46 better known as the people of the east at that time. 00:05:36.50\00:05:40.44 Here you can look in 2 Chronicles 9:14, 00:05:40.47\00:05:44.11 "Besides what the traveling merchants and traders brought. 00:05:44.14\00:05:47.24 All the kings of Arabia brought gifts to Solomon, 00:05:47.28\00:05:51.15 silver and gold," they were very rich. 00:05:51.18\00:05:52.91 Queen of Sheba came down through the Arabian peninsula, 00:05:52.95\00:05:57.79 brought treasures and there is--it was a different climate 00:05:57.82\00:06:02.09 then and they had a lot of natural resources. 00:06:02.12\00:06:05.43 But you could also see there is war, 00:06:05.46\00:06:07.50 not only in the time of Gideon, look at Nehemiah. 00:06:07.50\00:06:09.96 Nehemiah 4:7, "This is what happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, 00:06:10.00\00:06:15.37 the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that 00:06:15.40\00:06:19.44 the walls of Jerusalem were being restored and the gaps 00:06:19.47\00:06:21.98 were beginning to be closed, they were very angry," because 00:06:22.01\00:06:26.11 to the south of Jerusalem, the Arabs had sort of annexed some 00:06:26.15\00:06:29.05 of that territory and now if Jerusalem was reestablished, 00:06:29.08\00:06:31.62 they were gonna lose it. 00:06:31.65\00:06:33.39 And so, there was a confederacy of the Arabs 00:06:33.42\00:06:36.79 that were fighting against Israel. 00:06:36.83\00:06:38.26 Now, what was happening with the Arabs religiously? 00:06:38.29\00:06:42.93 What I'm gonna say, I don't want it to seem unkind, 00:06:42.96\00:06:46.10 but a lot of the early Arabs were deep into moon worship. 00:06:46.13\00:06:49.47 And I was reading something from history here and this is a book, 00:06:49.50\00:06:52.34 a short history of the Arabs by Philip Hitti. 00:06:52.37\00:06:54.74 He said, quote, "Throughout the entire peninsula, the antiquated 00:06:54.78\00:06:59.61 paganism of the Arabians, which for the Bedouins centered 00:06:59.65\00:07:03.39 chiefly on the worship of a moon god as is likely to be the case 00:07:03.42\00:07:07.72 with a pastoral people in hot climates who find the coolness 00:07:07.76\00:07:11.09 of the night their friend and the sun their enemy." 00:07:11.13\00:07:13.76 So, it's natural for them to worship the moon because the sun 00:07:13.80\00:07:15.90 was--they didn't worship the sun for crops. 00:07:15.93\00:07:18.23 It was an enemy. 00:07:18.27\00:07:20.04 But they had finally reached a point in the religion where it 00:07:20.07\00:07:22.44 failed any longer to meet the spiritual demands of the people. 00:07:22.47\00:07:27.01 This was preparing the way for a new religion. 00:07:27.04\00:07:30.21 The pre Islam pagan Arabs worshiped the moon god 00:07:30.25\00:07:33.98 they called Allah. 00:07:34.02\00:07:35.32 Now Allah's a generic term for god so that shouldn't shake you. 00:07:35.35\00:07:38.99 By praying towards Mecca, Mecca was a holy sight even before 00:07:39.02\00:07:42.42 Muhammed, several times a day, making the pilgrimage to Mecca, 00:07:42.46\00:07:46.93 running around the temple of the moon god called the Kabah, 00:07:46.96\00:07:50.20 kissing the black stone that supposedly fell from heaven. 00:07:50.23\00:07:53.77 Later Muslims said it was given to Adam 00:07:53.80\00:07:56.60 and later Abraham built a temple. 00:07:56.64\00:07:58.21 "Killing an animal and sacrifice to the moon god, 00:07:58.24\00:08:01.11 throwing stones at the devil, fasting for the month 00:08:01.14\00:08:04.28 which begins and ends with the crescent moon." 00:08:04.31\00:08:07.62 Ramadan is all built around the moon. 00:08:07.65\00:08:10.72 "Giving alms to the poor, et cetera." 00:08:10.75\00:08:12.22 And if you read the news recently, you know that 00:08:12.25\00:08:14.16 modern-day Muslims practice many of these same rituals still 00:08:14.19\00:08:18.39 today, but they can be traced all the way back to the time 00:08:18.43\00:08:21.73 when it was involved in lunar worship. 00:08:21.76\00:08:24.40 So, this was the state of things of what had happened to 00:08:24.43\00:08:27.47 Ishmael's descendants, some of them converted to Christianity 00:08:27.50\00:08:32.24 during the time of Christ. 00:08:32.27\00:08:33.58 They had churches in Egypt. 00:08:33.61\00:08:35.74 Some of them converted to Judaism in Alexandria. 00:08:35.78\00:08:38.95 They were Arabs that accepted the Scriptures of the Jews. 00:08:38.98\00:08:41.98 There was a great deal of Christian and Jewish influence 00:08:42.02\00:08:45.19 among the Arabs because they lived in, 00:08:45.22\00:08:47.72 they were neighbors in proximity. 00:08:47.76\00:08:50.83 But then after 5:38 00:08:50.86\00:08:55.93 when the pope began to be a ruler, 00:08:55.96\00:09:01.20 a political force, as well as a religion, 00:09:01.24\00:09:03.81 and it seemed like idolatry had become institutionalized 00:09:03.84\00:09:11.81 and the Muslims had no respect for that that--they 00:09:11.85\00:09:14.32 were weren't Muslims yet, sorry. 00:09:14.35\00:09:15.65 The Arabs had no respect for that because many of them 00:09:15.68\00:09:17.95 did not believe in idolatry. 00:09:17.99\00:09:20.92 They became very dissatisfied. 00:09:20.96\00:09:22.36 It was in this environment that a man was born 00:09:22.39\00:09:28.33 that we know today as Muhammed. 00:09:28.36\00:09:29.83 He was born in 570, died June 8, 632 in Medina. 00:09:29.86\00:09:36.44 He was born in Mecca. 00:09:36.47\00:09:38.81 He's accepted by Muslims as the last of the prophets of God. 00:09:38.84\00:09:44.51 Now, Muhammed was orphaned at an early age 00:09:44.55\00:09:46.72 and he was raised under the care of his paternal uncle. 00:09:46.75\00:09:49.05 Periodically he would seclude himself in a mountain cave 00:09:49.08\00:09:52.65 for several nights of prayer. 00:09:52.69\00:09:54.99 At age 25, Muhammed wed his wealthy employer who was 15 00:09:55.02\00:10:00.03 years older than him. 00:10:00.06\00:10:01.33 She was 40, a merchant Khadija. 00:10:01.36\00:10:04.43 This marriage was from the most part, 00:10:04.47\00:10:06.20 happy and it was a monogamist marriage, 00:10:06.23\00:10:10.74 and she helped him in many ways 00:10:10.77\00:10:12.61 because she had some wealth. 00:10:12.64\00:10:14.81 And 25 years later when she died, he ended up taking several 00:10:14.84\00:10:19.38 wives, one of them as young as nine years old. 00:10:19.41\00:10:21.22 And it was during this time that he kind of went from a prophet 00:10:21.25\00:10:25.85 to a little bit of a politician. 00:10:25.89\00:10:28.09 Most of his early visions were very peaceful. 00:10:28.12\00:10:30.13 Later visions when he was fighting for power, 00:10:30.16\00:10:33.13 there was a little more violence involved. 00:10:33.16\00:10:35.73 Something, and this is from the book written by Ramon Bennett. 00:10:35.76\00:10:39.00 I'm reading a lot in preparing for this. 00:10:39.03\00:10:40.87 Islam revealed, page 48, as a young child, Muhammed was nursed 00:10:40.90\00:10:46.21 by a Bedouin woman by the name of Halimah and in his third and 00:10:46.24\00:10:50.68 fourth year as a child, had numerous fits which made Halimah 00:10:50.71\00:10:53.52 think he was demon possessed. 00:10:53.55\00:10:56.69 Later at age 40, he reported being visited by Gabriel 00:10:56.72\00:10:59.55 in a cave where he started to receive his first revelations 00:10:59.59\00:11:02.36 from God three years later. 00:11:02.39\00:11:05.03 Muhammed started preaching these revelations publicly proclaiming 00:11:05.06\00:11:08.60 God is one and that complete surrender--by the way, that what 00:11:08.63\00:11:11.87 the word "Islam" means connected with the word "Salome" 00:11:11.90\00:11:14.64 or shalom, Salome is how you say it in Arabic that the only way 00:11:14.67\00:11:21.14 acceptable to God and that he was the prophet 00:11:21.18\00:11:23.41 of God similar to other Bible prophets. 00:11:23.45\00:11:27.15 Early Muslim traditions records that when Muhammed was about 00:11:27.18\00:11:29.85 to receive a revelation from Allah, he'd often fall down 00:11:29.88\00:11:33.56 on the ground, his body would begin to jerk. 00:11:33.59\00:11:35.69 His eyes would roll backward. 00:11:35.72\00:11:37.63 He would perspire profusely, and they'd cover him 00:11:37.66\00:11:40.43 with a blanket during such episodes. 00:11:40.46\00:11:42.10 He'd come out of these visions and he'd say he had a message. 00:11:42.13\00:11:46.00 And this is from the book, "The Islamic Invasion," page 71. 00:11:46.03\00:11:50.61 Muhammed gained followers, a lot of followers who--he gained 00:11:50.64\00:11:55.54 a few followers early and he met with hostility from 00:11:55.58\00:11:58.35 the other Meccan tribes to escape persecution. 00:11:58.38\00:12:01.42 He had left Mecca, gradually he built an army 00:12:01.45\00:12:05.25 and he gained converts in Medina. 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.86 He returned to Mecca with 10,000 soldiers and was met 00:12:07.89\00:12:12.16 with little resistance, very little bloodshed. 00:12:12.19\00:12:13.93 He basically took the city. 00:12:13.96\00:12:15.23 It later became the center for the religion and that--the 00:12:15.26\00:12:20.24 Bedouins were spread all over Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. 00:12:20.27\00:12:24.17 They really didn't have a national religion. 00:12:24.21\00:12:27.11 Muhammed became the natural one to sort 00:12:27.14\00:12:29.71 of coalesce them all. 00:12:29.74\00:12:31.95 Some of them leaned towards the Jews and so he said, 00:12:31.98\00:12:35.88 you know, "I agree with the Old Testament." 00:12:35.92\00:12:38.49 Some of them leaned towards the religion of the Christians said, 00:12:38.52\00:12:41.49 "I agree with the teachings of Jesus." 00:12:41.52\00:12:44.83 But the problem was he said, 00:12:44.86\00:12:46.16 "You cannot trust their Scriptures." 00:12:46.19\00:12:48.13 The original Scriptures of the Christians and the Jews 00:12:48.16\00:12:50.93 were true, but they have been tampered with 00:12:50.97\00:12:53.70 and you can't believe them anymore. 00:12:53.74\00:12:56.00 And so, Islam teaches, not just what Muhammed said, 00:12:56.04\00:12:59.37 they still teach today, "Yes, we agree with the Bible. 00:12:59.41\00:13:03.91 We agree with the teachings of Jesus. 00:13:03.95\00:13:06.31 But the Bibles that you have today cannot be trusted. 00:13:06.35\00:13:09.08 There is no copy left of the Bible and the New Testament 00:13:09.12\00:13:13.76 that really contains the original. 00:13:13.79\00:13:15.59 It's all been corrupted so the only Scriptures 00:13:15.62\00:13:18.53 that can be trusted today are the Qur'an." 00:13:18.56\00:13:21.83 So, they kind of say, "Oh yes we agree," but they said, 00:13:21.86\00:13:24.33 "We don't agree with your Scriptures if there's 00:13:24.37\00:13:26.87 any conflict between your Scriptures and what we say." 00:13:26.90\00:13:31.01 And so, it sort of--he was trying to find a religion that 00:13:31.04\00:13:34.88 would bring them all together but not have them go to the 00:13:34.91\00:13:37.65 Scriptures for their truth. 00:13:37.68\00:13:40.35 And so, you'll find a lot of reference 00:13:40.38\00:13:41.92 to the other religions in the Qur'an. 00:13:41.95\00:13:44.25 Doug: One of the most common questions we get here at Amazing 00:13:45.49\00:13:47.99 Facts is regarding the mysterious identity of this 00:13:48.02\00:13:51.53 enigmatic character called the Antichrist. 00:13:51.56\00:13:54.83 People around the world are wondering, 00:13:54.86\00:13:56.80 who is the Antichrist? 00:13:56.83\00:13:58.87 Is it a political party or is this some evil fiend 00:13:58.90\00:14:02.30 that is the devil incarnate? 00:14:02.34\00:14:04.34 Well, we have a study guide that will definitely help you 00:14:04.37\00:14:06.78 understand this. 00:14:06.81\00:14:08.11 00:14:12.68\00:14:15.88 and in the world today. 00:14:15.92\00:14:17.62 To get your free copy, go to amazingfacts.org or call the 00:14:17.65\00:14:22.26 number on your screen and ask for offer number out because God's message 00:14:31.03\00:14:33.84 is our mission. 00:14:33.87\00:14:35.87 Doug: So, who wrote the Qur'an? 00:14:36.24\00:14:37.54 Most Muslims freely agree that Muhammed 00:14:37.57\00:14:39.67 was probably it literate. 00:14:39.71\00:14:41.01 There's no indication in history that he wrote. 00:14:41.04\00:14:44.75 And so about 19 years after he died, 00:14:44.78\00:14:46.75 the religion continued to grow. 00:14:46.78\00:14:50.52 There was some fight about who was to be his successor 00:14:50.55\00:14:55.02 and that's where you get the difference between 00:14:55.06\00:14:57.26 the Sunni and the Shia. 00:14:57.29\00:14:58.59 Now, Sunni Muslims represent about 80% 00:14:58.63\00:15:01.70 or 85% of the Muslims in the world. 00:15:01.73\00:15:04.67 The Shia contests the lineage, and the power, and the 00:15:04.70\00:15:08.90 authority, and there are some differences in their beliefs 00:15:08.94\00:15:11.94 but they all came to believe the Qur'an 00:15:11.97\00:15:13.68 would have most beliefs in common. 00:15:13.71\00:15:16.21 They say the Qur'an is the Word of God 00:15:16.24\00:15:18.05 around which their religion is based. 00:15:18.08\00:15:21.32 The Qur'an is 20% smaller than the New Testament, 00:15:21.35\00:15:24.69 as far as the number of words. 00:15:24.72\00:15:26.45 There are a number of parallel passages 00:15:26.49\00:15:28.39 between the Old Testament and the Qur'an. 00:15:28.42\00:15:30.69 There are some places where the Qur'an actually quotes 00:15:30.73\00:15:33.90 some of the teachings of Jesus. 00:15:33.93\00:15:35.96 You'll find references to Abraham 70 times in the Qur'an. 00:15:36.00\00:15:39.67 Moses name occurs 40 in 34 chapters. 00:15:39.70\00:15:44.84 You've got references to David, Solomon, Saul, Elijah, Job. 00:15:44.87\00:15:49.61 Jonah, though it's a small book in the Old Testament, 00:15:49.64\00:15:52.11 figures prominently in the Qur'an and the fall of Adam 00:15:52.15\00:15:57.69 is cited five times. 00:15:57.72\00:15:59.12 That is a big difference. 00:15:59.15\00:16:00.52 In the Qur'an they say the fall happened in a place 00:16:00.56\00:16:02.99 called paradise that was not on earth and Adam and Eve 00:16:03.02\00:16:05.99 were later consigned to earth after the fall. 00:16:06.03\00:16:09.33 So, their creation account is different. 00:16:09.36\00:16:11.47 You'll find some of the teachings like an eye for an eye 00:16:11.50\00:16:14.70 talks about where Jesus said, "A house built upon the sand." 00:16:14.74\00:16:18.21 So, it's easy to see that Muhammed was at least acquainted 00:16:18.24\00:16:22.81 with some of the teachings of the Old and New Testament from 00:16:22.84\00:16:25.75 listening because a lot of it is incorporated there. 00:16:25.78\00:16:29.18 Doesn't go through stories like we do. 00:16:29.22\00:16:31.05 They're just little soundbites, some are shorter, 00:16:31.09\00:16:33.69 some are longer. 00:16:33.72\00:16:35.16 And I don't know if you've read the Qur'an. 00:16:35.19\00:16:37.33 I haven't read it all but I've read a lot of it. 00:16:37.36\00:16:40.86 There's a lot of conflict between the Qur'an 00:16:40.90\00:16:43.00 and the Bible. 00:16:43.03\00:16:44.33 You cannot reconcile the religion 00:16:44.37\00:16:46.67 of the Qur'an with Scripture. 00:16:46.70\00:16:48.80 And I say this very gently because I know there's a lot of 00:16:48.84\00:16:51.31 my friends in ministry and other Christians that are saying 00:16:51.34\00:16:54.64 there's really no difference between Christians and Muslims, 00:16:54.68\00:16:58.25 that we all come from Abraham and we all worship the same God. 00:16:58.28\00:17:02.02 I respectfully disagree. 00:17:02.05\00:17:04.02 I think that, you know, you don't--you could believe there 00:17:04.05\00:17:07.42 are good people in many different churches 00:17:07.46\00:17:09.42 but you don't compromise your convictions about, is it true? 00:17:09.46\00:17:14.20 And so, let me just give you a little list here 00:17:14.20\00:17:18.77 of what some of the differences are. 00:17:18.80\00:17:20.34 You've got Qur'an and the Bible portray different gods. 00:17:20.37\00:17:24.47 The Bible says salvation comes only through Jesus Christ. 00:17:24.51\00:17:28.31 John 14:6 while the Qur'an says only through Islam 00:17:28.34\00:17:32.35 and the obedience through Allah and to his prophet Muhammed 00:17:32.38\00:17:34.78 can one be avoiding the blazing fire. 00:17:34.82\00:17:37.62 That's from the Qur'an 385. 00:17:37.65\00:17:40.59 The Qur'an denies Jesus's death and resurrection. 00:17:40.62\00:17:44.53 That's pretty fundamental to Christian faith. 00:17:44.56\00:17:48.20 They say that our Bible's been corrupted, it never happened. 00:17:48.23\00:17:50.40 It was changed. 00:17:50.43\00:17:51.90 The Jews didn't really crucify him, and you find that 00:17:51.93\00:17:54.94 in the Qur'an 4:155 through 159. 00:17:54.97\00:18:00.04 They say Allah just made it appear to the Jews 00:18:00.08\00:18:01.78 as if Jesus was crucified. 00:18:01.81\00:18:03.88 The Qur'an denies the Triune God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 00:18:03.91\00:18:07.42 And, you know, you can understand 00:18:07.45\00:18:08.75 their confusion on that. 00:18:08.78\00:18:10.09 I've talked to some of my Muslim friends about this. 00:18:10.12\00:18:12.25 I said, "You guys believe in many gods." 00:18:12.29\00:18:13.82 They said, "No, we believe in one God." 00:18:13.86\00:18:15.36 "Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one." 00:18:15.39\00:18:16.93 There's no one God, no question about that. 00:18:16.96\00:18:19.69 But the word "one" biblically means united. 00:18:19.73\00:18:22.60 It's not a numerical quantify. 00:18:22.63\00:18:24.17 Our God, Father, Son, and spirit is united, 00:18:24.20\00:18:27.40 he's one, not like all these--this pantheon of gods 00:18:27.44\00:18:31.01 the Greeks had always fighting with each other. 00:18:31.04\00:18:33.74 The Bible says we are saved by grace, that we can be saved 00:18:33.78\00:18:36.75 through faith alone, not by works, lest any man should 00:18:36.78\00:18:39.25 boast, of course, in Ephesians 2:8 and 9. 00:18:39.28\00:18:42.08 The Qur'an states, and that's in 23:102 that in the judgment, God 00:18:42.12\00:18:48.49 will kind of balance, he'll put your good deeds in one side of 00:18:48.52\00:18:51.56 the balance, your bad deeds on the other and you need to have 00:18:51.59\00:18:53.56 more good deeds than bad deeds and you'll make it. 00:18:53.60\00:18:56.40 My dad sort of believed that, the Qur'an version, God was 00:18:56.43\00:19:00.30 gonna add everything up like that's--it's not based on how 00:19:00.34\00:19:03.17 many good works we do that we're saved, amen? 00:19:03.20\00:19:05.44 The Bible says to make disciples of all nations 00:19:05.47\00:19:09.48 and do it with gentleness and respect. 00:19:09.51\00:19:12.48 But for Muslims, there's a very different approach prescribed 00:19:12.51\00:19:15.25 in the Qur'an. 00:19:15.28\00:19:16.62 It says quote, "Fight and slay the pagans 00:19:16.65\00:19:19.55 wherever you find them. 00:19:19.59\00:19:20.89 Seize them, beleaguer them. 00:19:20.92\00:19:22.22 Lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war. 00:19:22.26\00:19:25.73 But if they repent and establish regular prayers and practice 00:19:25.76\00:19:29.06 and regular charity, then open the way for them 00:19:29.10\00:19:32.33 and I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. 00:19:32.37\00:19:35.77 "Smite thee above the neck, 00:19:35.80\00:19:38.91 smite their fingertips off of them." 00:19:38.94\00:19:42.04 It's interesting that a few years ago, we would have thought 00:19:42.08\00:19:46.61 when you read in the Bible about those who are beheaded 00:19:46.65\00:19:48.98 for their faith in Jesus, that was just a metaphor. 00:19:49.02\00:19:54.29 We thought that with the French Revolution and the guillotine 00:19:54.32\00:19:56.86 beheading was pretty much gone as a means of execution 00:19:56.89\00:20:00.73 and we've all seen that's been revived in pretty grizzly ways 00:20:00.76\00:20:04.47 in some of these terrorist activities 00:20:04.50\00:20:07.44 makes you wonder again. 00:20:07.47\00:20:09.54 And I could go on. 00:20:09.57\00:20:10.87 There's just so many differences that just there's really 00:20:10.91\00:20:12.84 not time to cite them between the two religions. 00:20:12.87\00:20:16.51 And so, the Bible and the Qur'an are very different books 00:20:16.54\00:20:21.25 and the religions are very different. 00:20:21.28\00:20:22.58 Is Allah and Jehovah, are they the same God? 00:20:22.62\00:20:28.56 Now, you gotta be careful. 00:20:28.59\00:20:29.99 This is a loaded question. 00:20:30.03\00:20:32.23 Let me see if I can answer this carefully. 00:20:32.26\00:20:35.70 You cannot deny that the Arabs and the Jews spring 00:20:35.73\00:20:40.44 from the same ancestor of Abraham, 00:20:40.47\00:20:44.14 that there are trappings and treats that are similar. 00:20:44.17\00:20:47.58 I mentioned, you know, they practice circumcision. 00:20:47.61\00:20:50.05 They say there's one God, and you can find similar roots 00:20:50.08\00:20:54.15 but you cannot reconcile the picture of God 00:20:54.18\00:20:57.29 that is worshiped by the Muslims with the picture of God 00:20:57.32\00:21:00.66 that is worshiped by Bible Christians. 00:21:00.69\00:21:03.29 For example, 1 John 2:22, "Who was a liar but he that denies 00:21:03.32\00:21:10.10 that Jesus is the Christ?" 00:21:10.13\00:21:12.17 Well, they deny that Jesus is the Christ. 00:21:12.20\00:21:13.87 He is Antichrist. 00:21:13.90\00:21:16.77 "Who denies the Father and the Son? 00:21:16.81\00:21:19.41 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; 00:21:19.44\00:21:22.48 he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also." 00:21:22.51\00:21:24.98 And you might say, "But there's many things 00:21:25.01\00:21:27.08 that he said that are good and true." 00:21:27.12\00:21:28.98 That's true of every religion. 00:21:29.02\00:21:31.35 I find wonderful things in Hinduism. 00:21:31.39\00:21:33.22 I love it when I go to India 00:21:33.25\00:21:34.56 because I can find good vegetarian food. 00:21:34.59\00:21:38.06 There's wonderful things in every religion. 00:21:38.09\00:21:39.79 There's wonderful things in Buddhism. 00:21:39.83\00:21:41.23 There are truths in Buddhism about peace. 00:21:41.26\00:21:44.93 There are truths in all kinds of different religions, 00:21:44.97\00:21:47.54 that doesn't mean they are the truth. 00:21:47.57\00:21:49.47 Matter of fact, if you're the devil, the way that you deceive 00:21:49.50\00:21:52.84 people is by mingling elements of truth that resonate with 00:21:52.87\00:21:56.61 people and then you bring in the deception that's deadly 00:21:56.64\00:22:01.45 and this is what I believe is the case. 00:22:01.48\00:22:02.95 Does that mean they'll be no Buddhists in heaven or Muslims 00:22:02.98\00:22:06.82 in heaven? 00:22:06.86\00:22:08.16 Or--no, I think God is reaching out to hearts 00:22:08.19\00:22:11.13 all over the world. 00:22:11.16\00:22:12.86 And there are good people in many religions, 00:22:12.89\00:22:14.60 and we got some nasty people in our religion 00:22:14.63\00:22:17.67 so we're not talking about people, right? 00:22:17.70\00:22:19.77 We're talking about, what is the truth? 00:22:19.80\00:22:22.47 Revelation is dealing with the battle in the last days about 00:22:22.50\00:22:26.27 what is the truth, amen, are we together on that? 00:22:26.31\00:22:29.14 All right, I talked about the Qur'an a little bit, 00:22:29.18\00:22:32.98 but I want to just give you an overview, 00:22:33.01\00:22:35.15 and this is not an exhaustive list. 00:22:35.18\00:22:36.58 I took a list of--it was much longer and shortened it. 00:22:36.62\00:22:39.79 The word "Islam" means surrender or submission. 00:22:39.82\00:22:43.26 Again, it comes from the word "Salome," 00:22:43.29\00:22:45.13 Salome which is similar to peace. 00:22:45.16\00:22:48.43 I've been in some countries 00:22:48.46\00:22:49.76 where the way you say hello is that. 00:22:49.80\00:22:51.67 And by the way, the way you say God, a Christian in Indonesia 00:22:51.70\00:22:56.50 in church calls God Allah. 00:22:56.54\00:23:00.64 So that's why I said it's a trick question. 00:23:00.68\00:23:02.11 The word "Allah" just means God. 00:23:02.14\00:23:04.61 So if you're in a Christian church in Indonesia, 00:23:04.65\00:23:08.85 you will be praising and singing to Allah. 00:23:08.88\00:23:11.29 Now, that might make you squirm a little bit, 00:23:11.32\00:23:13.39 but that is their word for God. 00:23:13.42\00:23:14.89 There's nothing wrong with that. 00:23:14.92\00:23:17.09 The word "Muslim," you might wonder what the difference 00:23:17.13\00:23:19.19 between Islam and Muslim? 00:23:19.23\00:23:20.63 Muslim technically means anyone or anything that surrenders 00:23:20.66\00:23:23.73 itself to God, which means by definition even a tree 00:23:23.77\00:23:27.00 or an animal can be a Muslim in that it surrenders 00:23:27.04\00:23:30.54 to the will of God. 00:23:30.57\00:23:31.87 That's from their writings, not from mine. 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.24 Studies show, I already mentioned that about 00:23:34.28\00:23:35.98 1.7 billion people in the world identify with Islam. 00:23:36.01\00:23:41.22 There are five pillars of practice in Islam 00:23:41.25\00:23:44.45 and here they are, A, declaration of faith 00:23:44.49\00:23:47.59 in one God and that Muhammed is the prophet of God. 00:23:47.62\00:23:52.13 Two, formal prayer five times a day. 00:23:52.16\00:23:55.70 C, there's a poor tax that is due, 2.5%. 00:23:55.73\00:23:59.77 They're getting discounted on our tithe, actually. 00:23:59.80\00:24:02.70 Two point five percent of one's excess wealth is given to the 00:24:02.74\00:24:06.11 needy once a year. 00:24:06.14\00:24:08.28 Fasting during the daylight hours in the month of Ramadan. 00:24:08.31\00:24:11.55 They fast all day and then they eat quite a bit after dark, 00:24:11.58\00:24:14.28 which isn't that healthy, I think. 00:24:14.32\00:24:16.95 Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once if you're physically and 00:24:16.99\00:24:21.22 financially able to. 00:24:21.26\00:24:23.46 And I don't know if you've ever heard about if you go to Mecca, 00:24:23.49\00:24:27.13 there's a grand mosque there. 00:24:27.13\00:24:28.53 They just did a bunch of renovation work. 00:24:28.56\00:24:30.33 I don't know if you heard. 00:24:30.37\00:24:31.67 They made two layers. 00:24:31.70\00:24:33.00 So many people who were there, they're getting killed 00:24:33.03\00:24:34.70 in the crush 'cause there's so many Muslims, 00:24:34.74\00:24:36.94 used to be a smaller group would come, 00:24:36.97\00:24:38.87 they'd walk seven times around this simple cube. 00:24:38.91\00:24:42.01 It's about 45 feet by 45 feet by 50 feet in the eastern corner 00:24:42.04\00:24:46.51 of this cube. 00:24:46.55\00:24:47.85 The cube has four sides going to the four corners of the globe. 00:24:47.88\00:24:51.99 The eastern corner has a big silver plaque and in the plaque 00:24:52.02\00:24:56.56 is the black stone and every Muslim wants to kiss that stone 00:24:56.59\00:24:59.69 after you walk around it seven times counterclockwise, 00:24:59.73\00:25:03.06 to kiss the stone and that will help absolve you of your sins. 00:25:03.10\00:25:07.74 It sounds a little bit like, you know, idolatry and you kind of 00:25:07.77\00:25:13.31 salvation by works in any event, but they had an accident a few 00:25:13.34\00:25:18.55 years ago while they were building two layers. 00:25:18.58\00:25:20.38 They couldn't get all the people around. 00:25:20.42\00:25:22.15 They've had several crushes where people have been crushed 00:25:22.18\00:25:24.15 trying to get to kiss teaching stone 'cause millions of people 00:25:24.19\00:25:26.76 have gone thousands of miles and thought, 00:25:26.79\00:25:28.59 "Am I gonna get close enough?" 00:25:28.62\00:25:30.03 They're all fighting their way in, and I don't know 00:25:30.06\00:25:31.96 if I'd want to kiss the stone after a thousands 00:25:31.99\00:25:33.63 other people kissed it. 00:25:33.66\00:25:34.93 And so, a crane fell a couple of years ago. 00:25:34.96\00:25:37.53 They were building two or three layers so people could go around 00:25:37.57\00:25:40.54 the cube like a cake and many layers and a crane fell on them, 00:25:40.57\00:25:45.11 I think over a hundred of people were killed in Mecca 00:25:45.14\00:25:47.68 from that terrible accident a few years ago. 00:25:47.71\00:25:50.28 But so, it's the holy city there. 00:25:50.31\00:25:53.08 Six articles of faith and this is the one God. 00:25:53.11\00:25:56.62 I've mentioned this already, the six articles of faith 00:25:56.65\00:26:01.66 are different from the five beliefs. 00:26:01.69\00:26:04.43 One God, all of the prophets of God are true. 00:26:04.46\00:26:07.40 The original Scriptures revealed to Moses, 00:26:07.46\00:26:09.86 David and Jeremiah, you know what? 00:26:09.90\00:26:12.10 Or to Jesus, the original Scriptures. 00:26:12.13\00:26:14.10 Since we don't have any original Scriptures, 00:26:14.14\00:26:15.74 you can't trust your Bibles so that's sort of a moot point. 00:26:15.77\00:26:19.81 They believe in angels, the day of judgment hereafter, 00:26:19.84\00:26:22.08 and destiny. 00:26:22.11\00:26:24.35 They believe in the concept of vicarious atonement that Jesus 00:26:24.38\00:26:28.35 died for the sins of humanity, but they believe you're 00:26:28.38\00:26:32.25 responsible really for your works in the day of judgment but 00:26:32.29\00:26:36.52 they don't look to Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins. 00:26:36.56\00:26:39.13 So, they don't really have a redeemer in that religion, 00:26:39.16\00:26:43.80 but what's gonna save people is a relationship with Jesus. 00:26:43.83\00:26:49.74 That's why I hope you're close to the Lord and while all these 00:26:49.77\00:26:53.31 different voices are saying, "We've got the truth 00:26:53.34\00:26:55.04 and we've got the Scriptures," you've gotta know 00:26:55.08\00:26:56.64 who only has the truth. 00:26:56.68\00:26:58.75 Jesus said, "Thy Word is truth." 00:26:58.78\00:27:00.82 announcer: Did you know that Noah was present 00:27:01.78\00:27:03.25 at the birth of Abraham? 00:27:03.28\00:27:05.02 Okay, maybe he wasn't in the room, but he was alive and 00:27:05.05\00:27:08.56 probably telling stories about his floating zoo. 00:27:08.59\00:27:10.99 From the creation of the world to the last day events 00:27:11.03\00:27:14.76 of revelation,
