... 00:00:00.63\00:00:01.23 male announcer: This presentation is brought to you 00:01:01.02\00:01:02.26 by the friend of the Amazing Facts ministry. 00:01:02.36\00:01:06.56 ¤¤¤ 00:01:07.40\00:01:11.53 Pastor Doug Batchelor: When Abraham is called to sacrifice 00:01:11.57\00:01:13.37 Isaac, God says, "Take your son, your only son." 00:01:13.40\00:01:18.41 What about Ishmael? 00:01:18.44\00:01:19.77 In Islam, they refused to accept that Abraham offered Isaac. 00:01:19.81\00:01:23.28 They say, "Abraham offered Ishmael." 00:01:23.31\00:01:26.55 male announcer: For over 40 years, 00:01:28.85\00:01:30.15 Amazing Facts" has been dedicated to sharing 00:01:30.19\00:01:32.69 God's Word through media. 00:01:32.72\00:01:34.76 This program features highlights from some 00:01:34.79\00:01:36.69 of our best television broadcasts. 00:01:36.73\00:01:39.23 We invite you to sit back and enjoy this edition 00:01:39.26\00:01:41.73 of "Amazing Facts Presents." 00:01:41.76\00:01:44.23 ¤¤¤ 00:01:44.27\00:01:49.37 Doug: Well today, we're beginning a new series on 00:01:49.40\00:01:53.44 something I have prayed and thought about discussing for 00:01:53.48\00:01:57.21 literally years, and I never have because I just wanted to 00:01:57.25\00:02:00.58 make sure that the truths were gelled in my own mind before I 00:02:00.62\00:02:05.92 had the confidence to share them with others. 00:02:05.95\00:02:08.66 You know, I feel a great responsibility as your pastor. 00:02:08.69\00:02:11.73 And the Bible talks about the Book of James, 00:02:11.76\00:02:14.93 "Don't be anxious to be many masters, 00:02:14.93\00:02:16.60 knowing you'll receive a more severe judgment or 00:02:16.63\00:02:19.87 fiercer condemnation." 00:02:19.90\00:02:21.47 And so, when you teach, you want to make sure you're teaching the 00:02:21.50\00:02:23.74 truth, because you're accountable for that. 00:02:23.77\00:02:27.01 And I have been studying for a few years and reading what 00:02:27.04\00:02:31.01 others have written about the subject of Islam. 00:02:31.05\00:02:37.19 And with things happening in the world today, 00:02:37.22\00:02:39.62 it's been prominent and in the news, 00:02:39.65\00:02:41.42 and we are wondering, as Christians, 00:02:41.46\00:02:44.69 does this factor somehow in prophesy. 00:02:44.73\00:02:47.86 And so, I've chosen to speak on this subject, 00:02:47.93\00:02:50.93 and the message today, dealing with "Islam, 00:02:50.97\00:02:54.57 Christianity and Prophecy." 00:02:54.60\00:02:56.04 It's going to be Part 1 in the series, 00:02:56.07\00:02:57.57 and it called "Sibling Rivalry." 00:02:57.61\00:03:00.04 Bible is full of stories of sibling rivalry, 00:03:00.08\00:03:03.81 all the way back from Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau. 00:03:03.85\00:03:09.12 You can read about Jesus and his brothers, 00:03:09.15\00:03:11.79 and David and his brothers, and Joseph and his brothers. 00:03:11.82\00:03:14.66 And you've got a lot of examples in the Bible, 00:03:14.69\00:03:18.39 even among the girls; Rachel and Leah. 00:03:18.43\00:03:21.26 You ever read about the arguments they had, 00:03:21.30\00:03:23.00 fighting over the same husband. 00:03:23.03\00:03:25.40 But one of the great examples of what has become a sibling 00:03:25.43\00:03:30.44 rivalry deals with the two oldest sons of Abraham, 00:03:30.47\00:03:37.08 the oldest being Ishmael and the second being Isaac, 00:03:37.11\00:03:41.22 and who was the rightful heir for that patriarchal blessing. 00:03:41.25\00:03:47.42 And the contest that begins in the Book of Genesis, 00:03:47.46\00:03:52.03 continues today in the world. 00:03:52.06\00:03:54.93 We're going to be looking at that in just a moment. 00:03:54.96\00:03:57.17 Now first, I'd like to just, you know, 00:03:57.20\00:03:59.03 state some of what is obvious. 00:03:59.07\00:04:01.04 Right now, there are about 7.4 billion people. 00:04:01.07\00:04:05.24 The nation of Islam or the people of Islam is, 00:04:05.27\00:04:09.48 a great nation of people. 00:04:09.51\00:04:11.65 They're about 7.4 billion people in the world today. 00:04:11.68\00:04:15.05 Christianity is by far the biggest religion at present, 00:04:15.08\00:04:19.05 with about 2.2 or 31% of all the people on earth. 00:04:19.09\00:04:24.19 Islam is in second place with 1.7 adherence, that's 23%. 00:04:24.23\00:04:31.27 Now, we've got to be very careful, 00:04:31.30\00:04:33.84 because well, they are 1.7 billion Muslims in the world 00:04:33.87\00:04:37.84 today, few things need to be clear. 00:04:37.87\00:04:40.18 Most Arabs are Muslims, but not most Muslims are Arabs. 00:04:40.21\00:04:48.88 The majority of Muslims are not Arabs. 00:04:48.92\00:04:53.39 Most Arabs are Muslims and the Muslim religion 00:04:53.42\00:04:56.69 did spring from Saudi Arabia and Mohammed, and it is largely, 00:04:56.73\00:05:01.06 it's got Arab routes that are connected with Ishmael. 00:05:01.10\00:05:04.43 We'll get to that in just a minute. 00:05:04.47\00:05:06.53 But the religion spread, and so today, 00:05:06.57\00:05:09.24 most Muslims are not Arabs. 00:05:09.27\00:05:11.54 The largest Muslim country, I've been there, 00:05:11.57\00:05:13.14 Indonesia, they're not Arabs. 00:05:13.17\00:05:16.98 And you go to Pakistan, and North India, 00:05:17.01\00:05:20.68 North Africa, and you're going find there's a whole 00:05:20.72\00:05:23.35 lot of Muslim people in the world that are not Arabs. 00:05:23.39\00:05:25.79 And so we've got to be very careful, 00:05:25.82\00:05:28.79 and we also have to be careful to understand that we do see 00:05:28.82\00:05:31.89 that there is a lot of terrorism in the world, 00:05:31.93\00:05:34.36 and a lot of it, a lot of the suicide bombings are connected 00:05:34.36\00:05:38.40 with the religion Islam. 00:05:38.43\00:05:39.87 Matter of fact, couple of studies that I read, 00:05:39.90\00:05:42.14 and there's others you can find. 00:05:42.17\00:05:43.67 2013 Study by the Brookings Institute found that 77% of 00:05:43.71\00:05:48.74 terror attack plots in the United States were 00:05:48.78\00:05:52.85 motivated by Islam. 00:05:52.88\00:05:54.68 A 2015 Study from the Institute for National Security Studies, 00:05:54.72\00:05:59.39 and that's based in Israel, so to give you fair perspective, 00:05:59.42\00:06:02.52 found that 99%--99.5% of all suicide attacks globally were 00:06:02.56\00:06:10.57 motivated by Islam. 00:06:10.60\00:06:12.33 They found that out 452 suicide attacks during 2015--of course, 00:06:12.37\00:06:18.07 the data is not all in on 2016. 00:06:18.11\00:06:19.97 This is just last year. 00:06:20.01\00:06:21.54 Out of 452, 450 were perpetrated by Muslim extremists. 00:06:21.58\00:06:28.45 So people think about these things and you read it in the 00:06:28.48\00:06:31.69 headlines, and it's, people become frightened. 00:06:31.72\00:06:34.32 They say, "Oh, do I have to be afraid of 00:06:34.36\00:06:36.22 the religion of Islam." 00:06:36.26\00:06:38.43 Keep in mind, that out 1.7 billion, 00:06:38.46\00:06:43.13 the vast majority are nice, peaceful people. 00:06:43.16\00:06:46.60 But there is something that is definitely going on. 00:06:46.63\00:06:49.94 You cannot deny that the terrorism is springing from 00:06:49.97\00:06:53.21 a religious foundation. 00:06:53.24\00:06:56.41 Those who are extremist, there's religious reasons for it. 00:06:56.44\00:07:00.28 That's why we have not been able to achieve peace 00:07:00.32\00:07:02.88 in the Middle East. 00:07:02.92\00:07:04.22 And the recent Secretary of State basically threw his hands 00:07:04.25\00:07:06.19 in the air and walked away, not only dealing with Syria and 00:07:06.22\00:07:11.19 what's going in Israel, because the problems are so deeply 00:07:11.23\00:07:14.93 rooted because they are religious issues, 00:07:14.96\00:07:18.63 and as long as the Jews, and the Christians, 00:07:18.67\00:07:22.84 and the Muslims base their faith on different books--whereas Jews 00:07:22.87\00:07:27.98 and Christians have pretty much the same book. 00:07:28.01\00:07:30.05 We have the New Testament but the 00:07:30.08\00:07:32.45 Muslims put the Qur'an as a priority. 00:07:32.48\00:07:35.08 They also claim some value in the Bible, 00:07:35.12\00:07:37.92 but not the same way that we do. 00:07:37.95\00:07:40.52 So there is--there are documents of constitution. 00:07:40.56\00:07:43.49 The religions are different and they can't change that. 00:07:43.53\00:07:45.69 You just don't see it going away unless they change their book. 00:07:45.73\00:07:48.63 It's entrenched. 00:07:48.66\00:07:51.77 And the battles that you're going to see going on in the 00:07:51.80\00:07:54.20 world today, go way back. 00:07:54.24\00:07:57.07 So to understand this, and when you consider that the two 00:07:57.11\00:08:01.21 primary religions in the world are Christianity, 00:08:01.24\00:08:04.18 and Islam is more than 50%, and they are growing faster than 00:08:04.21\00:08:08.58 Buddhism and Hinduism, which are the other prominent religions. 00:08:08.62\00:08:12.15 There are only about 16 million Jews in the world, 00:08:12.19\00:08:14.96 compared to the other religions, they're very small, 00:08:14.99\00:08:16.93 but they're an amazing people, in that, 00:08:16.96\00:08:19.46 they have a great deal of influence on the finances 00:08:19.49\00:08:22.50 of the world and media. 00:08:22.53\00:08:24.67 I'm just stating the fact that I'm a Jew. 00:08:24.70\00:08:26.80 And it's a small country, got a lot of technology, 00:08:26.84\00:08:30.17 a lot of brain power, a lot of influence. 00:08:30.21\00:08:32.47 But when you think about the numbers, 00:08:32.51\00:08:34.81 Judaism is a very small number compared to the billions you 00:08:34.84\00:08:38.31 find in Christianity and Islam. 00:08:38.35\00:08:41.22 So to think last day prophecy is not going to factor in these 00:08:41.25\00:08:44.99 religions, I think is reckless. 00:08:45.02\00:08:47.49 So we're going to go into that. 00:08:47.52\00:08:49.29 But before we do, you got to go back in order to understand it, 00:08:49.32\00:08:52.96 because the ancient stories have a bearing on future events. 00:08:52.99\00:08:58.23 We're going to way back. 00:08:58.27\00:08:59.57 We're going to go to the Book of Genesis. 00:08:59.60\00:09:01.14 And I'll think you'll find in study--go to Genesis 12, 00:09:01.17\00:09:04.44 and we're going to be reading verse 1 to 3. 00:09:04.47\00:09:06.78 Now, after the tower of Babel fell, 00:09:06.81\00:09:10.55 God then calls someone by the name of Abraham. 00:09:10.58\00:09:13.48 "And God says to Abraham, 'Get out of your country, 00:09:13.52\00:09:16.85 from your family, from your father's house, 00:09:16.89\00:09:19.42 to a land that I will show you. 00:09:19.45\00:09:21.06 I will make a great nation.'" 00:09:21.09\00:09:23.86 Don't miss the phrase, great nation. 00:09:23.89\00:09:25.19 It's coming up again. 00:09:25.23\00:09:26.96 "I'll make a great nation of you and I will bless you and make 00:09:27.00\00:09:30.67 your name great, and you will be a blessing. 00:09:30.70\00:09:33.97 And I'll bless those who bless you, 00:09:34.00\00:09:35.77 and I will curse him who curses you. 00:09:35.80\00:09:37.71 And in you, all the families of the earth will be blessed." 00:09:37.74\00:09:42.91 This is a Messianic promise. 00:09:42.94\00:09:45.31 This a promise that Abraham would be the family, 00:09:45.35\00:09:48.78 the tribe, through which the Messianic line, 00:09:48.82\00:09:51.79 the line of Jesus would come through Abraham, 00:09:51.82\00:09:55.52 but there was a problem. 00:09:55.56\00:09:56.86 So you got to now to Genesis chapter 16. 00:09:56.89\00:10:00.03 And if you read in Genesis 16, verse 1, 00:10:00.06\00:10:02.13 "Now Sarah, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. 00:10:02.16\00:10:05.27 And she had an Egyptian maidservant 00:10:05.30\00:10:07.84 whose name was Hagar." 00:10:07.87\00:10:09.57 Sarah has this idea. 00:10:09.60\00:10:10.94 She says to Abraham, "Well, I can't have children, 00:10:10.97\00:10:12.67 but I don't want you to be childless. 00:10:12.71\00:10:14.01 Since Hagar is my maidservant, I'll have 00:10:14.04\00:10:17.78 her work as a surrogate, you know. 00:10:17.81\00:10:20.75 She can bear children for me." 00:10:20.78\00:10:23.25 "So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. 00:10:23.28\00:10:26.15 And when she saw that she had conceived, 00:10:26.19\00:10:29.96 her mistress became despised in her eyes." 00:10:29.99\00:10:33.13 Now, I've underlined that. 00:10:33.16\00:10:35.20 Right here, you see, now keep in mind, 00:10:35.23\00:10:37.43 Hagar is going to be the mother of Ishmael, 00:10:37.47\00:10:41.47 who ends up being the first Arab, 00:10:41.50\00:10:43.77 father of the Arabs; Sarah, the mother of Isaac. 00:10:43.81\00:10:49.18 Can you imagine now, Sarah, who she's the wealthy one, 00:10:49.21\00:10:53.72 she's the real wife, Hagar is a surrogate, 00:10:53.75\00:10:57.22 she's bearing children for Sarah, 00:10:57.25\00:10:58.55 but she's here own baby. 00:10:58.59\00:10:59.89 Sarah can't have any and Hagar has conceived, 00:10:59.92\00:11:02.36 she beginning to have here tummy show, 00:11:02.39\00:11:04.26 and there's Hagar strutting around, 00:11:04.29\00:11:05.66 rubbing her belly, and she's looking at Sarah and saying, 00:11:05.69\00:11:09.03 "Too bad you can't have any children, 00:11:09.06\00:11:11.47 and God must have cursed you." 00:11:11.50\00:11:13.34 And when Sarah dealt harshly with her--so now the animosity 00:11:13.37\00:11:16.60 is not just coming from Hagar towards Sarah, 00:11:16.64\00:11:18.87 it's coming from Sarah towards Hagar. 00:11:18.91\00:11:20.58 You see, it's going both ways. 00:11:20.61\00:11:22.34 "And when Sarah dealt harshly with her, she runs." 00:11:22.38\00:11:25.71 I don't know if that means she beat her or what happened. 00:11:25.75\00:11:28.65 She fled from her presence and Hagar takes 00:11:28.68\00:11:32.59 off and she heads for the hills. 00:11:32.62\00:11:35.12 "Now the angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water 00:11:35.16\00:11:39.09 on the way to Shur. 00:11:39.13\00:11:42.20 And the angel of the Lord said to her, 00:11:42.23\00:11:43.70 'Return to your mistress, and submit 00:11:43.73\00:11:45.97 yourself under her hand.'" 00:11:46.00\00:11:48.20 Well, that must have been tough. 00:11:48.24\00:11:50.34 And the Angel of the Lord said, 'I will multiply your 00:11:50.37\00:11:54.44 descendants exceedingly, 00:11:54.48\00:11:56.68 so that they will not be counted for multitude.'" 00:11:56.71\00:11:59.31 You might make a note of that, 00:11:59.35\00:12:01.65 'cause that's what God had promised about Isaac. 00:12:01.68\00:12:04.19 "And the Angel of the Lord said to her, 00:12:04.22\00:12:06.32 'Behold, you are with child, and you shall bear a son, 00:12:06.35\00:12:09.99 and you will call his name Ishmael, 00:12:10.03\00:12:12.33 because--the word El in the Bible means God. 00:12:12.36\00:12:16.60 Ishmael means God hears. I've heard your cry. 00:12:16.63\00:12:20.37 She's, you know, you can't blame Hagar. 00:12:20.40\00:12:22.34 If I was a servant in Egypt, I got handed over by the Pharaoh 00:12:22.37\00:12:25.57 to this guy named Abraham, speaks a different language, 00:12:25.61\00:12:28.14 I have struggled with the language, 00:12:28.18\00:12:29.48 then she hands me over to Abraham and says, 00:12:29.51\00:12:32.01 "You're supposed to have a baby for me." 00:12:32.05\00:12:33.52 And so here I have a baby and I'm thinking, 00:12:33.55\00:12:35.05 "Maybe I'll get a promotion. 00:12:35.08\00:12:37.09 I won't, you know, I won't just be a slave. 00:12:37.12\00:12:39.15 I'll be at least a concubine. 00:12:39.19\00:12:41.19 And Sarah gets all upset and beats me, and what have I done?" 00:12:41.22\00:12:46.16 You know, you can understand. 00:12:46.19\00:12:47.50 Hagar's not feeling good about it, 00:12:47.50\00:12:51.83 and Sarah's thinking, "Now, what I done that 00:12:51.87\00:12:53.90 I can't have a child?" 00:12:53.94\00:12:56.74 "You're with child, you'll bear a son. 00:12:56.77\00:12:58.41 Call his name Ishmael, because 00:12:58.44\00:12:59.84 the Lord has heard your affliction." 00:12:59.87\00:13:01.54 Notice, verse 12, "He will be a wild man. 00:13:01.58\00:13:05.81 His hand will be against every man, 00:13:05.85\00:13:09.28 and every man's hand against him. 00:13:09.32\00:13:12.55 And he will dwell in the presence of all his brethren." 00:13:12.59\00:13:15.69 That sounds like a conflict. 00:13:15.72\00:13:17.29 There would be some animosity 00:13:17.33\00:13:20.80 between Ishmael and other people. 00:13:20.83\00:13:24.93 And he'd dwell in the midst of his brethren, 00:13:24.97\00:13:28.14 but they would have a hard time assimilating with other people. 00:13:28.17\00:13:32.24 Doug: Don't go anywhere, friends. 00:13:33.51\00:13:34.81 In just a moment, we'll return for the 00:13:34.84\00:13:36.48 rest of today's presentation. 00:13:36.51\00:13:38.98 You know, the Bible clearly speaks of a sinister, 00:13:39.01\00:13:41.92 religious political power that will arise in the last days to 00:13:41.95\00:13:45.85 unite the people of the world against the followers of Christ. 00:13:45.89\00:13:49.72 How close are we to this or is this beast power already out 00:13:49.76\00:13:54.03 there working in the shadows? 00:13:54.10\00:13:56.10 Well, we have a free gift for you, 00:13:56.13\00:13:58.10 that'll answer these prophecy questions and many more. 00:13:58.13\00:14:01.67 It's titled, "Coming One World Church." 00:14:01.70\00:14:04.97 This book will present proof that many last day prophecies 00:14:05.01\00:14:08.31 are now being fulfilled in current events. 00:14:08.34\00:14:11.48 Learn how to identify and avoid falling prey to the final 00:14:11.51\00:14:15.45 deceptions of this evil of this evil power. 00:14:15.48\00:14:17.99 To get your free copy of "Coming, One Word Church," 00:14:18.02\00:14:21.62 call the number on your screen and ask 00:14:21.66\00:14:24.06 for Offer Number 138 or just visit the website. 00:14:24.09\00:14:28.06 And after you read this resource, 00:14:28.10\00:14:29.66 make sure and share it with a friend. 00:14:29.70\00:14:32.33 Doug: Well, let's back to today's presentation, 00:14:32.57\00:14:34.94 and learn some more amazing facts from the Word of God. 00:14:34.97\00:14:38.61 Abraham then has a vision where God appears to him and he says, 00:14:39.77\00:14:44.15 "I'm going to give you a son. 00:14:44.18\00:14:46.21 And Abraham's going, "Well, you did give me a son. 00:14:46.25\00:14:47.62 His name is Ishmael." 00:14:47.65\00:14:50.29 And God is saying, "No, I'm going to give you a 00:14:50.32\00:14:52.49 son by your wife. 00:14:52.52\00:14:53.86 I never told you to take another wife. 00:14:53.89\00:14:56.26 I told you was going to make you a father of a multitude and you 00:14:56.29\00:14:58.99 lost faith, and thought you were going to help me out. 00:14:59.03\00:15:02.90 And you accomplished by works, what was supposed 00:15:02.93\00:15:05.40 to happen by faith. 00:15:05.43\00:15:07.20 You accomplished by carnal means what was supposed to 00:15:07.24\00:15:10.37 happen by spiritual, miraculous means." 00:15:10.41\00:15:13.78 He says, "I'm going to give you a son through Sarah." 00:15:13.81\00:15:17.01 And so God blesses Sarah, she gets pregnant, has a baby. 00:15:17.05\00:15:21.85 "And Sarah saw the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, 00:15:21.88\00:15:25.02 whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing, 00:15:25.05\00:15:28.32 and Sarah said to Abraham," boy, they just had a blowup. 00:15:28.36\00:15:32.73 "Cast out," you know what that word, cast out means? 00:15:32.76\00:15:35.36 Divorce. 00:15:35.40\00:15:37.37 "Cast out this bondwoman and her son, 00:15:37.40\00:15:41.67 for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, 00:15:41.70\00:15:45.87 namely with Isaac. 00:15:45.91\00:15:48.18 And the matter was very displeasing to Abraham, 00:15:48.21\00:15:51.88 in his sight because of his son." 00:15:51.91\00:15:54.32 Ishmael's his son, and the father loves his son. 00:15:54.35\00:15:56.58 Remember when Abraham prayed, "Lord, what about Ishmael?" 00:15:56.62\00:16:00.16 He cared about him. And God then speaks to Abraham. 00:16:00.19\00:16:05.03 Says, "Do not let it be displeasing in your sight 00:16:05.06\00:16:08.00 because of the lad, because of your bondwoman. 00:16:08.03\00:16:12.10 Whatever Sarah says to you, listen to her voice, 00:16:12.13\00:16:15.97 for in Isaac, your seed shall be called." 00:16:16.00\00:16:19.74 So do you see right away what the difference is? 00:16:19.77\00:16:21.88 The promised see, the Messiah, was going to come not through 00:16:21.91\00:16:25.25 Ishmael, but through Isaac. 00:16:25.28\00:16:27.88 And we're going to go to the New Testament and look at that. 00:16:27.92\00:16:30.12 "Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, 00:16:30.15\00:16:33.25 Ishmael, because he is your seed." 00:16:33.29\00:16:35.79 He sent away, "He rose up early in the next morning. 00:16:35.82\00:16:38.46 He took bread and a skin of water, he 00:16:38.49\00:16:40.46 put it on her shoulders. 00:16:40.50\00:16:41.80 He gave her the boy to Hagar, and sent her away." 00:16:41.83\00:16:44.50 He gave her some finances, but instead of going to a town, 00:16:44.53\00:16:47.34 she's all broken hearted. 00:16:47.37\00:16:48.67 She goes out into the wilderness. 00:16:48.70\00:16:51.24 "She departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba." 00:16:51.27\00:16:54.94 And God heard the voice of the lad, 00:16:54.98\00:16:57.21 and that means, not only, he's 13 years old, he's intelligent. 00:16:57.25\00:17:00.88 She's not only crying and praying; he is praying, 00:17:00.92\00:17:05.35 Ishmael, and crying. 00:17:05.39\00:17:08.76 'Cause it's not--God didn't just hear her voice, 00:17:08.79\00:17:10.59 he heard the voice of the lad. 00:17:10.63\00:17:12.69 "And the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, 00:17:12.73\00:17:16.20 and said to her, 'What ails you, Hagar? 00:17:16.23\00:17:19.13 Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 00:17:19.17\00:17:24.97 Arise, lift up the lad and hold him with your hand. 00:17:25.01\00:17:28.34 I will make him a great nation.' Then God opened her eyes, 00:17:28.38\00:17:32.95 and she saw a well of water. 00:17:32.98\00:17:35.48 And she went and filled the skin of water, and 00:17:35.52\00:17:37.39 gave the lad drink." 00:17:37.42\00:17:38.85 So God was with the lad and she never went back to Egypt. 00:17:38.89\00:17:42.82 He was in the wilderness, and he became an archer. 00:17:42.86\00:17:45.29 He became a skilled hunter. 00:17:45.33\00:17:47.23 "And he dwelt in the Wilderness of Paran, 00:17:47.23\00:17:50.30 and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt." 00:17:50.33\00:17:53.74 So Ishmael ends up being the father of the Arabs, 00:17:53.77\00:17:57.27 which of course, is where you get Islam, 00:17:57.31\00:18:00.54 and Isaac becomes the father of the Jews, 00:18:00.58\00:18:02.58 and subsequently, the Christians, 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.71 through which Christ came. 00:18:04.75\00:18:06.51 Look at some of these parallels, Genesis 21:17, 00:18:06.55\00:18:09.65 "God heard the voice of the lad, heard him cry. 00:18:09.68\00:18:13.09 I will make him a great nation." 00:18:13.12\00:18:15.16 It also says, regarding Isaac, "I am the God of your father. 00:18:15.19\00:18:21.80 Do not fear to go down to Egypt. 00:18:21.83\00:18:23.47 I will make of you a great nation," 00:18:23.50\00:18:25.33 actually said that to Jacob. 00:18:25.37\00:18:26.74 So you got two great nations have come out of Abraham, 00:18:26.77\00:18:29.64 springing from 12 sons. 00:18:29.67\00:18:32.07 The number 12 in the Bible represent church. 00:18:32.11\00:18:36.54 It's a religion, religious leadership. 00:18:36.58\00:18:38.68 Twelve apostles. Jesus used that number. 00:18:38.71\00:18:41.28 He could have picked 11, 14. 00:18:41.32\00:18:44.95 So you got a religion that comes from Ishmael, 00:18:44.99\00:18:47.92 and you got a religion that comes from Isaac. 00:18:47.96\00:18:51.19 Says your offspring would be innumerable. 00:18:51.23\00:18:54.83 ""I'll multiply your descendants," Genesis 16:9-10. 00:18:54.86\00:18:59.83 You can see the dark green colors on the map represent 00:18:59.87\00:19:03.37 the concentrations of the world where 99%, 00:19:03.41\00:19:07.08 up to a hundred percent are Islamic, 00:19:07.11\00:19:09.98 and these are the countries that all flowed out from Saudi 00:19:10.01\00:19:14.25 Arabia, that kind of engulfed some of these great empires. 00:19:14.28\00:19:18.75 We read also in Genesis 26, to Isaac he said, 00:19:18.79\00:19:22.39 "I will make your descendants multiply 00:19:22.42\00:19:24.03 like the stars of heaven. 00:19:24.06\00:19:25.59 I will give your descendants all these lands." 00:19:25.63\00:19:27.86 But what he says to Isaac, he does not say to Ishmael. 00:19:27.86\00:19:31.77 Here's the difference. 00:19:31.80\00:19:33.17 To Abraham he says, "In your seed, 00:19:33.20\00:19:35.27 all the nations of the world would be blessed." 00:19:35.30\00:19:37.74 To Isaac he says here in Genesis 26:4, 00:19:37.77\00:19:40.84 "And in your seed all the nations of the earth 00:19:40.88\00:19:43.55 would be blessed." 00:19:43.58\00:19:44.88 The blessing would come, the truth, 00:19:44.91\00:19:47.62 because if you don't have truth, you don't have a blessing. 00:19:47.65\00:19:49.38 The truth, the Messiah who is the truth, 00:19:49.42\00:19:52.22 are you with me, the truth that the Jews were 00:19:52.25\00:19:54.86 the guardians of the Word. 00:19:54.89\00:19:56.89 Paul says, "God committed to the children of Israel, 00:19:56.93\00:19:59.96 the oracles of truth." 00:20:00.00\00:20:02.03 Doesn't mean they always kept it, but they had it. 00:20:02.06\00:20:04.77 Genesis 28:14, then God repeats the promise to Jacob, 00:20:04.80\00:20:09.77 "Also to your descendants, they'll be like the dust of the 00:20:09.80\00:20:12.67 earth; and you'll spread abroad, and in you and in your seed all 00:20:12.71\00:20:16.51 the families of the earth shall be blessed." 00:20:16.54\00:20:18.68 So he only says this to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, 00:20:18.71\00:20:21.88 and that's interesting. 00:20:21.92\00:20:23.92 Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, all three had 00:20:23.95\00:20:26.22 wives that had trouble getting pregnant. 00:20:26.25\00:20:30.83 You know about Sarah, we just read that. 00:20:30.86\00:20:32.89 The Bible says, Rebecca was barren, 00:20:32.93\00:20:35.30 and Isaac prayed and God opened her womb and she had twins. 00:20:35.33\00:20:39.00 And the Bible says Rachel had problems having a child. 00:20:39.03\00:20:43.57 And Jacob prayed, and eventually she had Joseph, 00:20:43.61\00:20:46.41 and later Benjamin. 00:20:46.44\00:20:47.74 Died giving birth to Benjamin. 00:20:47.78\00:20:49.08 They all had problems having children. 00:20:49.11\00:20:51.51 The other thing is because their children were born as a result 00:20:51.55\00:20:55.22 of prayer and intercession and promises. 00:20:55.25\00:20:58.45 Spiritual births. You got that? 00:20:58.49\00:21:01.26 There's something about Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 00:21:01.29\00:21:03.02 These promised children are spiritual births. 00:21:03.06\00:21:05.93 There's a lesson for us there. 00:21:05.96\00:21:07.40 The other thing is where did they get their wives? 00:21:07.46\00:21:09.96 They kept bringing their wives out of Mesopotamia 00:21:10.00\00:21:12.97 to the Promised Land. 00:21:13.00\00:21:15.17 Abraham said, "Don't take a wife for Isaac from the local girls. 00:21:15.20\00:21:18.24 She was must be a believer in the true God." 00:21:18.27\00:21:19.87 He said to Eliezer, his servant, "Go get a wife from my people, 00:21:19.91\00:21:24.21 and bring her to the Promised Land." 00:21:24.25\00:21:26.85 It's important because Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, 00:21:26.88\00:21:29.08 have all got their wives out of Mesopotamia and brought them 00:21:29.12\00:21:31.45 to the Promised Land, and then God says, 00:21:31.49\00:21:33.36 "Babylon has fallen. 00:21:33.39\00:21:34.72 Come out of her, my people." 00:21:34.76\00:21:36.09 God calls his church out of Babylon, 00:21:36.12\00:21:38.26 spiritual Mesopotamia to the Promised Land, 00:21:38.29\00:21:41.46 the new Jerusalem. 00:21:41.50\00:21:42.80 See what I'm saying? 00:21:42.83\00:21:44.17 And children of Israel were carried away captive to Babylon, 00:21:44.20\00:21:48.74 and they came out of Babylon in the days of Cyrus, 00:21:48.77\00:21:51.54 and came back to the Promised Land. 00:21:51.57\00:21:52.94 That's the whole story of Ezra and Nehemiah. 00:21:52.97\00:21:55.04 So this is carrying through history. 00:21:55.08\00:21:57.08 It's going to happen in last day prophecy as well. 00:21:57.11\00:22:00.68 Now, I want you to notice, there's a number of parallels 00:22:00.72\00:22:03.25 between Isaac and Ishmael. 00:22:03.28\00:22:06.35 Isaac comes into the world as a result of faith. 00:22:06.39\00:22:11.63 Ishmael comes into the world by natural means 00:22:11.66\00:22:14.23 as a result of works. 00:22:14.30\00:22:15.96 God had promised, a promised, miraculous child 00:22:16.00\00:22:19.53 to Abraham and Sarah. 00:22:19.57\00:22:21.00 They couldn't wait. 00:22:21.04\00:22:22.34 They said, "We're going to help out. 00:22:22.37\00:22:23.67 We're going to do it by works." 00:22:23.71\00:22:25.04 It represents the carnal son, whereas you've got Isaac 00:22:25.07\00:22:29.38 is the spiritual son. 00:22:29.41\00:22:30.85 The interesting thing is Isaac then has two boys, 00:22:30.88\00:22:32.35 and Esau is the carnal sin. 00:22:32.38\00:22:35.58 He's willing to sell his birthright for a pot of beans. 00:22:35.62\00:22:39.55 But Jacob is the one through whom the truth comes. 00:22:39.59\00:22:42.96 He is the spiritual son. He wants the blessing. 00:22:42.99\00:22:44.93 He tells Esau, he says, "You can take all of dad's possessions. 00:22:44.96\00:22:49.13 You can get the inheritance." 00:22:49.16\00:22:50.53 Matter of fact, when Jacob came back into the Promised Land, 00:22:50.57\00:22:52.43 he gave things to Esau. 00:22:52.47\00:22:55.40 And he said, "You keep it." 00:22:55.44\00:22:57.77 Says, "I want the spiritual blessing," 00:22:57.81\00:22:59.44 and he got that, didn't he? 00:22:59.47\00:23:00.91 The father put his hands him and he blessed him. 00:23:00.94\00:23:03.45 And so, there's a big debate, because I don't know if you're 00:23:03.48\00:23:07.02 aware of this, only Isaac is called the only son. 00:23:07.05\00:23:12.12 When Abraham is called to sacrifice Isaac, 00:23:12.15\00:23:15.36 God says, "Take your son, your only son." 00:23:15.39\00:23:18.83 What about Ishmael? 00:23:18.86\00:23:21.20 Is "God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten Son." 00:23:21.23\00:23:24.70 You know, it's 'cause Isaac was a type when he went up on the 00:23:24.73\00:23:27.44 mountain as a sacrifice. 00:23:27.47\00:23:28.77 He was type of Christ. 00:23:28.80\00:23:30.11 Just like Moses was never supposed to strike the rock 00:23:30.14\00:23:32.07 twice, he messed up the symbol. 00:23:32.11\00:23:33.61 Abraham was not supposed to have a child of the flesh. 00:23:33.64\00:23:36.28 He was just supposed to have the child of the promise. 00:23:36.31\00:23:39.25 Something else that's interesting is in Islam, 00:23:39.28\00:23:42.78 they refuse to accept that Abraham offered Isaac. 00:23:42.82\00:23:45.09 They say Abraham offered Ishmael. 00:23:45.12\00:23:49.46 Now, see, you can't believe both Qur'an and the Bible, 00:23:49.49\00:23:52.63 because there's major conflicts in the teachings there. 00:23:52.66\00:23:55.66 You read the Book of James, 2:21, 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.87 "Was not Abraham, our father, justified by works 00:23:57.90\00:24:00.94 when he offered Isaac." 00:24:00.97\00:24:02.60 You have to reject the Old and the New Testament to 00:24:02.64\00:24:04.81 believe the Qur'an. 00:24:04.84\00:24:06.17 It says it was Isaac. It was not Ishmael. 00:24:06.21\00:24:09.21 That was the son. Look at some of the differences. 00:24:09.24\00:24:11.58 One is a hunter; the other is a farmer and a shepherd. 00:24:11.61\00:24:15.05 Isaac planted and God gave him a hundred-fold. 00:24:15.08\00:24:18.15 God names Isaac and Ishmael. 00:24:18.19\00:24:22.62 They both were named by God, but the name of one comes from the 00:24:22.66\00:24:25.23 father and the name of the other comes through the mother. 00:24:25.26\00:24:28.56 Ishmael dies surrounded by family. 00:24:28.60\00:24:31.67 Jacob and Isaac died surrounded by family. 00:24:31.70\00:24:34.87 Isaac goes east to get his wife; Ishmael goes West to 00:24:34.90\00:24:39.87 Egypt to get his wife. 00:24:39.91\00:24:41.74 They're opposites. 00:24:41.78\00:24:43.55 Isaac's wife is chosen by the father; 00:24:43.58\00:24:46.75 Ishmael's wife is chosen by the mother. 00:24:46.78\00:24:49.95 You know, maybe, I'll close by taking you to Galatians 4. 00:24:49.98\00:24:53.89 Listen to what Paul says. 00:24:53.92\00:24:55.22 We're jumping to the New Testament. 00:24:55.26\00:24:56.56 Paul says what happened to Ishmael and Isaac is an allegory 00:24:56.59\00:24:59.86 that applies to us today. 00:24:59.89\00:25:02.40 Paul says, "Tell me the truth, you who desire to be under the 00:25:02.43\00:25:05.10 law, do you not hear the law? 00:25:05.13\00:25:08.14 For it is written that Abraham," and of course, 00:25:08.17\00:25:10.07 Genesis was called part of the law. 00:25:10.11\00:25:11.67 "Abraham had two sons: one by a bondwoman, 00:25:11.71\00:25:14.71 the other by the freewoman. 00:25:14.74\00:25:16.88 But he who was of the bondwoman, Ishmael, 00:25:16.91\00:25:19.78 was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman, 00:25:19.81\00:25:23.82 Isaac, through promise, which things are symbolic. 00:25:23.85\00:25:29.32 For these are the two covenants," one true, 00:25:29.36\00:25:32.93 one false, "one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, 00:25:32.96\00:25:37.53 which is Hagar." 00:25:37.57\00:25:38.90 Is anyone saved under the bondage of Hagar? 00:25:38.93\00:25:42.60 Well, I'm telling you what Paul says it's bondage. 00:25:42.64\00:25:46.14 "For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia." 00:25:46.17\00:25:49.24 Where? Arabia. 00:25:49.28\00:25:51.35 Where does Mohammed have his vision? 00:25:51.38\00:25:54.98 Where is Islam born? Saudi Arabia. 00:25:55.02\00:26:00.09 "And corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, 00:26:00.12\00:26:02.36 and is in bondage with her children. 00:26:02.39\00:26:04.03 But the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. 00:26:04.06\00:26:08.83 For it is written, 'Rejoice, O barren, 00:26:08.86\00:26:11.13 you who do not bear. 00:26:11.17\00:26:12.50 Break forth and shout for you who are not in labor. 00:26:12.53\00:26:14.70 For the desolate has many more children, 00:26:14.74\00:26:17.07 than she who has a husband.' 00:26:17.11\00:26:18.81 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 00:26:18.84\00:26:24.05 But, as he who was born according to the flesh, 00:26:24.08\00:26:25.95 Ishmael, then persecuted him who was born according to the 00:26:25.98\00:26:29.45 Spirit, even so it is now. 00:26:29.48\00:26:31.62 Nevertheless, what does the Scripture say? 00:26:31.65\00:26:33.52 'Cast out the bondwoman and her son, 00:26:33.56\00:26:35.49 for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son 00:26:35.52\00:26:38.99 of the freewoman. 00:26:39.03\00:26:40.60 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, 00:26:40.63\00:26:42.96 but of the free.'" 00:26:43.00\00:26:44.30 What does this mean? 00:26:44.33\00:26:46.53 Well, in our day and age, I think as we near the end of 00:26:46.57\00:26:48.70 time, you're going to an increasing polarization 00:26:48.74\00:26:52.44 in the world between these two great ideas, 00:26:52.47\00:26:57.51 these two great families. 00:26:57.55\00:26:59.51 Now, if you're a Christian, your faith springs 00:26:59.55\00:27:02.85 from Isaac and Jacob. 00:27:02.88\00:27:05.55 If you're an Arab, your faith is springing. 00:27:05.59\00:27:08.39 It has its roots in Ishmael and Mohammed. 00:27:08.42\00:27:12.19 And you can see in the world today, 00:27:12.23\00:27:14.20 these are the two principal religions that are being very 00:27:14.23\00:27:16.80 aggressive about sharing their faith, 00:27:16.83\00:27:18.77 and I believe things are going to reach critical mass in the 00:27:18.80\00:27:21.94 end of time, and it's going to result in the final events, 00:27:21.97\00:27:25.57 but I don't want to get ahead of myself now, 00:27:25.61\00:27:28.38 because wait, there's more. 00:27:28.41\00:27:31.68 male announcer: Would you like to know God's plan for our 00:27:34.08\00:27:35.75 broken world as revealed in Bible prophecy? 00:27:35.78\00:27:39.35 Want practical, trusted solutions for 00:27:39.39\00:27:41.29 your biggest challenges? 00:27:41.32\00:27:43.59 Freshly updated and redesigned, Amazing Facts Bible study 00:27:43.63\00:27:47.20 guides, provide 27 Bible-based topical lessons with beautiful 00:27:47.23\00:27:51.07 graphics and straightforward answers that are enlightening, 00:27:51.10\00:27:54.34 encouraging and easy to understand. 00:27:54.37\00:27:56.60 Each study guide leads you toward real relevant Bible 00:27:56.64\00:27:59.41 answers for the most important questions in your life. 00:27:59.44\00:28:02.94 male announcer: How can I have healthier relationships? 00:28:02.98\00:28:05.11 When an how will Jesus come again, and so much more. 00:28:05.15\00:28:09.45 male announcer: Don't leave your future to chance. 00:28:09.48\00:28:11.15 Transform your life with truths from the Amazing 00:28:11.19\00:28:13.62 Facts Bible study guides. 00:28:13.66\00:28:15.66 Prefer to watch while you read, our brand now "Prophecy 00:28:15.69\00:28:18.83 Encounters" DVD series, makes the perfect companion set. 00:28:18.86\00:28:22.23 Don't wait. 00:28:22.26\00:28:23.57 Order your study guides and DVD set today by visiting 00:28:23.60\00:28:25.87 afbookstore.com or by calling 800-538-7275. 00:28:25.90\00:28:32.44 female announcer: Let's face it. 00:28:32.47\00:28:33.98 It's not always easy to understand everything 00:28:34.01\00:28:36.14 you read in the Bible. 00:28:36.18\00:28:37.65 With over 700, 000 words contained in 66 books, 00:28:37.68\00:28:41.58 the Bible can generate a lot of questions. 00:28:41.62\00:28:43.99 To get biblical, straightforward answers, 00:28:44.02\00:28:46.39 call into "Bible Answers Live," a live nationwide call-in radio 00:28:46.42\00:28:50.13 program, where you can talk to Pastor Doug Batchelor and ask 00:28:50.16\00:28:53.50 him your most difficult Bible questions. 00:28:53.53\00:28:55.80 For times and stations in your area or to listen to "Answers" 00:28:55.83\00:28:59.07 online, visit bal.amazingfact.org. 00:28:59.10\00:29:03.24 ¤¤¤ 00:29:05.07\00:29:15.08 male announcer: This presentation was brought to you 00:29:24.03\00:29:25.59 by the friend of the Amazing Facts ministry. 00:29:25.63\00:29:28.60
