male announcer: This presentation is brought to you 00:00:02.16\00:00:03.67 by the friends of the Amazing Facts ministry. 00:00:03.80\00:00:06.50 Doug Batchelor: It's remarkable to look back and to see how the 00:00:08.47\00:00:11.07 Lord has led through time. 00:00:11.11\00:00:12.81 And it's through progression and providence, His will is 00:00:13.14\00:00:16.31 made clear. 00:00:16.34\00:00:17.68 Throughout scripture, step by step, the Lord has led His 00:00:17.71\00:00:20.78 people from generation to generation. 00:00:20.82\00:00:23.08 Even here at Amazing Facts, 00:00:23.12\00:00:25.22 I clearly see God's guiding all the way from that very first 15 00:00:25.25\00:00:29.92 minute broadcast in 1966. 00:00:29.96\00:00:32.73 From radio, to television, to publishing, to global 00:00:32.76\00:00:36.26 evangelism, it's evident that God has a divine plan in motion. 00:00:36.30\00:00:40.70 Friends, the Lord has a plan for you as well. 00:00:40.90\00:00:44.51 Jeremiah 29:11 says, "'I know the plans that I have for you,' 00:00:44.54\00:00:48.98 declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you, not to harm you, 00:00:49.01\00:00:53.18 plans to give you hope and a future." 00:00:53.21\00:00:56.22 That great hope is Christ and through Him, Amazing Facts is 00:00:56.89\00:01:01.69 moving forward. 00:01:01.72\00:01:03.06 But you might wonder, what is God's specific purpose for 00:01:03.09\00:01:06.39 your life? 00:01:06.43\00:01:07.73 As you trust God with your life and walk with Him day by day. 00:01:07.76\00:01:11.57 He will wonderfully unfold His good plan for you. 00:01:11.60\00:01:15.14 We pray that today's program will be a stepping stone to 00:01:15.37\00:01:18.61 strengthen your walk with Jesus, giving you clarity and 00:01:18.64\00:01:22.01 fulfillment in the days ahead. 00:01:22.04\00:01:23.88 And remember, stay tuned for the very important free offer 00:01:24.25\00:01:27.68 following this presentation. 00:01:27.72\00:01:29.48 Doug: I'm sure most of you have heard of Alfred Nobel. 00:01:33.89\00:01:37.59 He did not invent nitroglycerin, but he actually did 00:01:37.63\00:01:40.66 invent dynamite. 00:01:40.70\00:01:42.00 Nitroglycerin was very difficult to handle, and they had a lot of 00:01:42.40\00:01:46.17 accidents and explosions, but by his working with his chemist, 00:01:46.20\00:01:50.37 they developed this permeable way to saturate a clay-like 00:01:51.07\00:01:55.84 substance with the nitroglycerin so it could be safely 00:01:55.88\00:01:58.48 transported, and they called it dynamite. 00:01:58.51\00:02:01.35 And a lot of explosions and danger in his lab when he was 00:02:02.32\00:02:07.59 developing it. 00:02:07.62\00:02:08.96 Matter of fact, it was so dangerous that they had a barge 00:02:08.99\00:02:13.16 where the lab was built off in the water, so if there was an 00:02:13.19\00:02:15.76 explosion, there'd be the less fall out and collateral damage 00:02:15.80\00:02:20.14 as possible. 00:02:20.17\00:02:21.54 Well, a few years later, Alfred became very famous and very 00:02:22.10\00:02:26.57 wealthy from the development of dynamite. 00:02:26.61\00:02:28.74 Some newspapers heard that he had died and they printed his 00:02:29.44\00:02:32.15 obituary, but they got mixed up. 00:02:32.18\00:02:35.22 It was not Alfred, it was his brother. 00:02:35.25\00:02:37.79 And when he read his obituary, it talked about him as the lord 00:02:39.19\00:02:42.36 of dynamite and destruction and death. 00:02:42.39\00:02:44.63 And he was horrified because the man was a pacifist. 00:02:45.59\00:02:48.66 He thought the development of dynamite would help in 00:02:49.23\00:02:51.63 construction, and building, and mining, and it would be 00:02:51.67\00:02:54.87 productive and be safer, and yet they, you know, with every 00:02:54.90\00:02:58.84 invention, they find a way to use it in war, and so it became 00:02:58.87\00:03:01.61 associated with destruction. 00:03:01.64\00:03:03.11 And it broke his heart so much that he thought about his life 00:03:03.58\00:03:08.02 and he thought about his legacy and he said, I really want to be 00:03:08.05\00:03:11.29 helping the world. 00:03:11.32\00:03:12.65 I want to be bringing peace to the world. 00:03:12.69\00:03:14.29 And so he developed a foundation and actually made a fund and 00:03:14.62\00:03:20.96 awards were given out annually to those who had helped human, 00:03:20.96\00:03:24.97 mankind in the development of physics, chemistry, medicine, 00:03:25.00\00:03:29.47 literature, and peace. 00:03:29.50\00:03:31.11 We've all heard about the Nobel Peace Prize. 00:03:31.14\00:03:33.71 He was able to kind of change his legacy now. 00:03:34.48\00:03:37.55 But not too many people read their obituary. 00:03:38.05\00:03:42.22 If you do, I bet it would make you nervous. 00:03:43.18\00:03:45.05 Very few people write their own obituary though some have, but 00:03:46.55\00:03:51.49 Jesus wrote His own obituary. 00:03:51.53\00:03:54.83 There's a lot of prophecies in the Bible that talk about the 00:03:56.06\00:03:58.40 first coming of Jesus, and we're going to look at some of these 00:03:58.43\00:04:01.50 prophecies that'll help illustrate the identity of 00:04:01.54\00:04:05.44 Jesus, so that you have no doubts about it. 00:04:05.47\00:04:07.64 And so in the message about the "Fullness of Time," we're going 00:04:07.94\00:04:10.81 to examine, was Jesus the one? 00:04:10.85\00:04:13.95 Was Jesus the Messiah that the scriptures had foretold? 00:04:13.98\00:04:17.69 And that's the big question. 00:04:18.02\00:04:19.35 So we're going to ask a number of questions here and let the 00:04:19.55\00:04:22.12 prophecies answer. 00:04:22.16\00:04:23.46 Now, you can read the prophecy here in the book of Micah 00:04:23.49\00:04:26.49 chapter 5, verse 2, "But you Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you 00:04:26.53\00:04:30.23 are little among the thousands of Judah," that's a little 00:04:30.27\00:04:32.90 Hamlet, "Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One who's 00:04:32.93\00:04:37.84 the ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from old, even 00:04:37.87\00:04:41.78 from everlasting." 00:04:41.81\00:04:43.14 Now, that prophecy is so clear, it can't be misunderstood. 00:04:43.18\00:04:45.88 That prophecy is so clear, that when the wise men came looking 00:04:45.91\00:04:49.88 for the one who was born king of the Jews, and Herod got all 00:04:49.92\00:04:53.92 upset and agitated that there was going to be someone to 00:04:54.19\00:04:57.03 replace him. 00:04:57.06\00:04:58.39 I don't know why he was worried about a baby King at that point, 00:04:58.43\00:05:01.00 because he was already a pretty old man, and he had nothing to 00:05:01.03\00:05:03.16 worry about, by the time the baby grew up, he called in the 00:05:03.20\00:05:06.07 scribes and Pharisees and said, where does the prophecy say that 00:05:06.10\00:05:10.14 the Messiah would be born? 00:05:10.17\00:05:11.47 They knew, they said Bethlehem. 00:05:11.51\00:05:13.07 So it was really clear, it's clear from this, was Jesus born 00:05:14.14\00:05:18.31 in Bethlehem? 00:05:18.35\00:05:19.68 He was. 00:05:19.95\00:05:21.28 Now there's a problem, where did the angel come and appear 00:05:21.32\00:05:24.49 to Mary? 00:05:24.52\00:05:25.85 Nazareth, remember we just read that? 00:05:26.42\00:05:28.09 "An angel came to a virgin that was in the city of Galilee 00:05:28.79\00:05:31.56 called Nazareth." 00:05:31.59\00:05:33.09 Nazareth is 70 miles north, and she is found to be with child 70 00:05:33.13\00:05:38.87 miles north. 00:05:38.90\00:05:40.24 And 70 miles back then was more than 70 miles today, because 70 00:05:40.27\00:05:45.77 miles today you conquer in an hour. 00:05:45.81\00:05:47.38 Some of you conquer it in half an hour, depends on how 00:05:47.41\00:05:50.31 you drive. 00:05:50.35\00:05:51.68 But back then, it was a pretty serious journey. 00:05:52.15\00:05:54.68 So God has to somehow get Mary down to Bethlehem before she 00:05:55.58\00:05:59.45 gives birth. 00:05:59.49\00:06:00.89 Enter Octavian Caesar, also known as Augustus Caesar, we've 00:06:00.92\00:06:05.06 got a month named after him. 00:06:05.09\00:06:06.80 He was one of the most successful leaders in history. 00:06:06.83\00:06:09.33 He ruled Rome for about 40 years and it was during the time of 00:06:09.36\00:06:13.03 what they call the great Pax Romana, that means the 00:06:13.07\00:06:16.97 Roman peace. 00:06:17.01\00:06:18.74 So Joseph also went from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into 00:06:18.77\00:06:23.58 Judea under the city of David, which is called Bethlehem 00:06:23.61\00:06:27.05 because he was of the house and the lineage of David. 00:06:27.08\00:06:30.19 You had to register for your taxes in your hometown. 00:06:30.39\00:06:33.56 They were worried about people evading taxes back then just 00:06:33.59\00:06:36.06 like they are now. 00:06:36.09\00:06:37.39 And so you actually had to go to your hometown in that year 00:06:37.43\00:06:40.26 and register. 00:06:40.63\00:06:41.93 Now, let's get something out of the way, and I hope I don't make 00:06:41.96\00:06:43.87 any enemies. 00:06:43.90\00:06:45.57 Jesus was not born on December 25. 00:06:45.60\00:06:48.77 I'll give you three Bible reasons if I can remember them. 00:06:51.21\00:06:53.91 First of all, we know how long Jesus lived, 33.5 years. 00:06:54.34\00:06:58.35 We know when Jesus was baptized. 00:06:59.41\00:07:01.28 Luke chapter 3 says, "As He began to be 30 years of age." 00:07:01.32\00:07:04.49 Now, this is also very significant, is that Jesus was 00:07:05.29\00:07:08.29 baptized right on his 30th birthday, which means through 00:07:08.32\00:07:13.06 the prophecies we're going to see in a moment in Daniel, 00:07:13.09\00:07:15.66 not only could they tell, you know, 00:07:15.70\00:07:17.67 where He was going to be born, 00:07:17.70\00:07:19.57 but knowing when He would be anointed and begin His ministry, 00:07:19.60\00:07:21.87 all they had to do is count back 30 years and have a good 00:07:21.90\00:07:23.91 estimate of when He would be born. 00:07:23.94\00:07:25.34 And there were a few people that have been studying the 00:07:26.44\00:07:28.54 prophecies that were pretty close. 00:07:28.58\00:07:30.48 Simon, God had told him, or Simeon rather, in the temple, 00:07:30.51\00:07:33.78 that the time of the Messiah's coming was there. 00:07:33.98\00:07:36.82 So we know that Jesus, He died what time of year? 00:07:36.85\00:07:40.46 Spring. 00:07:41.56\00:07:43.19 He ministered 3.5 years. 00:07:43.22\00:07:45.26 If you count back 3.5 years from spring, you're going to end up 00:07:45.29\00:07:50.10 in the fall. 00:07:50.13\00:07:51.63 Another reason is because we know that shepherds are not 00:07:51.67\00:07:55.14 guarding their flocks at night, the climate in Israel is very 00:07:55.17\00:08:01.48 much like northern California and December 25, you're not 00:08:01.51\00:08:04.68 going to be out in the field with your sheep. 00:08:04.71\00:08:06.82 The sheep are going to be in the fold, and you're going to 00:08:06.85\00:08:08.82 be in the house with the fire, as they're not pasturing 00:08:08.85\00:08:12.42 during that time, they're feeding them hay during that 00:08:12.45\00:08:14.96 time that they've stored up. 00:08:14.99\00:08:17.13 And then, we know that they would not call for an 00:08:17.16\00:08:21.80 international tax where people have to travel the very worst 00:08:21.83\00:08:25.43 season of the year. 00:08:25.47\00:08:26.77 The reason that the 25th of December has traditionally been 00:08:26.80\00:08:30.31 the time when people celebrate it is because it was already a 00:08:30.34\00:08:34.11 holiday among the Romans. 00:08:34.14\00:08:36.24 You know, the shortest day of the year is the 21st of the 22nd 00:08:36.28\00:08:39.25 of December. 00:08:39.28\00:08:40.58 Very little difference between the two. 00:08:40.62\00:08:42.15 You don't notice a difference in the length of the days from the 00:08:42.35\00:08:46.22 winter solstice until about the 25th. 00:08:46.25\00:08:49.12 So they saw a notable difference that the days began getting 00:08:49.59\00:08:52.93 longer again during the 25th and they called it the rebirth of 00:08:52.96\00:08:56.53 the sun. 00:08:56.56\00:08:57.90 And so some of the church fathers about three or 400 years 00:08:57.93\00:09:01.67 after Christ, they said, you know, we might reach more pagans 00:09:01.70\00:09:04.84 if we just, you know, sort of eclipse their sun worship with 00:09:04.87\00:09:08.64 worshiping the Son of God. 00:09:08.68\00:09:09.91 Since we don't know the day of His birth, let's say it's the 00:09:09.94\00:09:12.45 25th of December and maybe we could get them to focus more 00:09:12.48\00:09:15.58 on Jesus. 00:09:15.62\00:09:16.92 Now, I don't know that you should make compromises like 00:09:16.95\00:09:19.19 that, but you might wonder what do we do now as a church. 00:09:19.22\00:09:22.29 Since we don't know the date, and the world is talking about 00:09:22.72\00:09:25.06 Jesus, let's make the most of it, and let's talk about Jesus, 00:09:25.09\00:09:28.30 because am I going to preach about the birth of Jesus 00:09:28.33\00:09:30.60 in July? 00:09:30.63\00:09:32.03 Doesn't that seem weird now in our culture? 00:09:32.07\00:09:35.37 So hold fast to that which is good. 00:09:35.40\00:09:38.31 Amen? 00:09:38.34\00:09:39.77 And if someone's going to regard the day, regard it unto the Lord 00:09:39.81\00:09:43.38 is what the Bible says. 00:09:43.41\00:09:44.65 Don't do it for elves and for Santa Claus, but sorry, He was 00:09:44.68\00:09:47.92 not born, even though some of our hymns allude to it, He was 00:09:47.95\00:09:52.02 not born December 25th. 00:09:52.05\00:09:53.42 So she went down to Bethlehem. 00:09:54.49\00:09:58.43 In Luke chapter 2, verse 6. "And so it was, while they were 00:09:58.46\00:10:02.06 there, the days were accomplished that she should 00:10:02.10\00:10:05.37 be delivered. 00:10:05.40\00:10:06.70 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him 00:10:06.74\00:10:10.01 in swaddling clothes," swaddling clothes is strips of cloth, the 00:10:10.04\00:10:15.64 early Pampers, "and laid him in the manger, because there was no 00:10:15.68\00:10:19.95 room for them in the inn." 00:10:19.98\00:10:21.32 Isn't that something? 00:10:21.35\00:10:22.58 He's, you've heard it before, but it's still staggering when 00:10:22.62\00:10:24.92 you think that God Almighty of the cosmos comes to the world in 00:10:24.95\00:10:28.56 the form of a man, and there's no room for Him and He comes to 00:10:28.59\00:10:32.26 His own people that had all the prophecies and they do not 00:10:32.29\00:10:34.56 know Him. 00:10:34.60\00:10:36.10 And the religious leaders totally miss it, and yet it's 00:10:36.13\00:10:39.83 revealed to a shepherd, and later to some foreign wise men, 00:10:39.87\00:10:45.17 or Magi. 00:10:45.21\00:10:46.51 When Jesus was then dedicated in the temple, when He was eight 00:10:46.54\00:10:50.71 days old, it was fortunate they were in Bethlehem. 00:10:50.75\00:10:53.31 They said, let's dedicate Him right in the temple, which was 00:10:53.35\00:10:55.72 only a few miles away, and there He was circumcised and they 00:10:55.75\00:10:59.09 named Him Yeshua. 00:10:59.12\00:11:00.72 And that means, God is Savior and the Greek is Jesus, and or 00:11:01.22\00:11:05.29 it's actually Jesu. 00:11:05.33\00:11:06.73 And so you know, we say it now in the English derivative 00:11:06.76\00:11:09.76 of that. 00:11:09.80\00:11:11.13 If you're Spanish, you say Jesús, but they gave Him the 00:11:11.17\00:11:13.30 name that means, He will save His people from their sins. 00:11:13.34\00:11:17.24 When they went into the temple, the Holy Spirit revealed to 00:11:17.64\00:11:20.78 Simon, or Simeon, and He blessed them. 00:11:20.81\00:11:24.25 And He said to Mary His mother, He was also an elder and a 00:11:24.28\00:11:27.12 prophet in His own right, "Behold, this Child is destined 00:11:27.15\00:11:32.15 for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which 00:11:32.19\00:11:38.03 will be spoken against (yes, a sword)," He told Mary, "(a sword 00:11:38.06\00:11:42.16 will pierce through your own soul), that the thoughts of many 00:11:42.20\00:11:45.50 hearts might be revealed." 00:11:45.53\00:11:46.97 And she remembered those words and shared them with Luke 00:11:47.00\00:11:49.97 following the crucifixion. 00:11:50.01\00:11:51.34 She said, I remember in the temple, he told me that. 00:11:51.37\00:11:53.54 Luke 2, verse 51, "Then He went down with them and He came to 00:11:55.44\00:11:59.28 Nazareth, and He was subject to them." 00:11:59.31\00:12:01.32 Now some people think well, Jesus tries--He tried to order 00:12:01.35\00:12:04.19 His life so that He could impersonate the Messiah. 00:12:04.22\00:12:07.36 How many of you got to choose where you were born? 00:12:08.32\00:12:10.19 You can't choose that. 00:12:11.83\00:12:13.16 All these prophecies, these are things that happen 00:12:14.03\00:12:16.26 by Providence. 00:12:16.30\00:12:17.67 Now, the reason I also put this verse in here is because some 00:12:17.97\00:12:21.00 people say, where did Jesus get all that wisdom? 00:12:21.04\00:12:23.17 Well, after He was born, Joseph and Mary let Him be an 00:12:23.20\00:12:27.48 apprentice of the wise men in India, and He studied under 00:12:27.51\00:12:31.25 the gurus. 00:12:31.28\00:12:32.61 Or He went to the orient and He studied under the wise people 00:12:32.65\00:12:36.02 there, or He went to Egypt to the, and he studied with, and 00:12:36.05\00:12:39.65 they find it so hard to believe that he grew up in a carpenter 00:12:39.69\00:12:42.26 shop with His incredible wisdom and insights that He had. 00:12:42.29\00:12:45.26 But if you believe the Bible, it's really clear. 00:12:45.49\00:12:47.93 He went down with them to Nazareth and He was subject 00:12:47.96\00:12:51.00 to them. 00:12:51.03\00:12:52.33 The Bible says, "He grew and He waxed strong." 00:12:52.37\00:12:53.70 He grew up there and everybody recognized Him. 00:12:53.74\00:12:56.40 They said, "Is not this the carpenter's Son?" 00:12:56.44\00:12:58.67 They knew who He was, He had grown up there. 00:12:58.71\00:13:00.48 Now, here's where it gets interesting. 00:13:01.18\00:13:02.48 We talked about where He would appear and some of the 00:13:02.51\00:13:04.95 circumstances of His birth. 00:13:04.98\00:13:06.48 Now it talks about when He would appear. 00:13:06.51\00:13:09.38 Notice this, "Know therefore and understand, that from the going 00:13:09.42\00:13:12.99 forth of the command to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the 00:13:13.02\00:13:16.83 Prince, There will be seven weeks." 00:13:16.86\00:13:19.16 So of those 490 years of those 70 weeks or seven, what's seven 00:13:19.53\00:13:25.53 times seven? 00:13:25.57\00:13:26.90 There'll be seven weeks. 00:13:27.74\00:13:29.07 There's a break off of a seven week period and it tells us, 00:13:29.10\00:13:30.87 "the street and the wall would be built in troublous times." 00:13:30.91\00:13:34.01 That's during that 49 year period where there was a great 00:13:34.21\00:13:37.21 battle as they rebuilt the walls in the streets of the temple. 00:13:37.25\00:13:40.15 It says, "There will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks." 00:13:42.32\00:13:44.92 From the end of the seven weeks, there would be another 62, total 00:13:46.29\00:13:49.26 of 69. 00:13:49.29\00:13:50.66 We're still missing one week. 00:13:50.86\00:13:52.29 That last week is when things get really exciting. 00:13:52.79\00:13:55.13 Unto the Messiah the Prince, and it says, "The street and the 00:13:55.93\00:13:59.00 wall will be built again even in troublous times. 00:13:59.03\00:14:01.74 And after sixty-two weeks," after the 62 week period of 00:14:01.77\00:14:06.14 time, "the Messiah is cut off, but not for himself." 00:14:06.17\00:14:09.81 This is very clear that the Messiah would be cut off, but 00:14:10.65\00:14:13.45 He's cut off for us, not for Himself. 00:14:13.48\00:14:16.42 So let's look at this. 00:14:16.95\00:14:18.29 What's the starting point of this prophecy? 00:14:18.32\00:14:19.75 From the going forth of the command to restore and build 00:14:20.52\00:14:23.66 Jerusalem unto the Messiah the prince, there'll be seven weeks 00:14:23.69\00:14:27.76 and 62 weeks, a total of 69 weeks. 00:14:27.83\00:14:31.90 Now we know when that was given that you can find that decree in 00:14:32.80\00:14:37.77 the book of Ezra chapter 7, this is the final decree from 00:14:37.81\00:14:41.61 Artaxerxes that's given in 457 BC, a date that is very well 00:14:41.64\00:14:46.08 established in history. 00:14:46.11\00:14:47.45 Now, we're looking at this 490 year prophecy. 00:14:48.42\00:14:51.12 You're hearing me say 490 years, but it says 70 weeks, 70 times 00:14:51.85\00:14:56.19 seven, is 49 or 490 days. 00:14:56.22\00:14:59.66 But how many of you know that when you study a Bible prophecy, 00:15:00.43\00:15:03.87 a time prophecy like this, a day equals a year. 00:15:03.90\00:15:06.37 You've got that verse in Ezekiel 4:6, "I have appointed thee 00:15:06.67\00:15:10.11 each day for a year." 00:15:10.14\00:15:11.57 You also read about that numbers 14:34, they had to wander a year 00:15:11.84\00:15:16.54 for every day they spied out the land. 00:15:16.58\00:15:18.78 A day for a year. 00:15:18.81\00:15:20.15 And then Jesus in Luke 13:32 he says, Go tell Herod, I teach, 00:15:20.18\00:15:24.92 cast out devils, do cures. 00:15:25.25\00:15:26.62 Today tomorrow and the third day, I'll be perfected. 00:15:27.22\00:15:31.09 Jesus taught three more years, not three more days. 00:15:31.13\00:15:34.56 And so this is the principle that's used. 00:15:34.56\00:15:36.90 So here you've got the first 49 years and what happened? 00:15:37.23\00:15:40.10 The street in the wall is built in troublous times. 00:15:40.14\00:15:42.70 Then there's another 62 weeks beyond that, that's another 00:15:43.17\00:15:46.91 434 years. 00:15:46.94\00:15:48.64 So that gets us to 483 years total. 00:15:49.08\00:15:52.88 You're still with me. 00:15:52.91\00:15:54.22 That first arc is bringing us for the first 69 weeks. 00:15:54.25\00:15:57.09 But then there's one week left and it says, "In the midst of 00:15:57.12\00:16:00.29 the week, in the midst of this final week, he will cause the 00:16:00.32\00:16:03.73 sacrifice to cease." 00:16:03.76\00:16:05.19 A week has how many days? 00:16:05.23\00:16:06.80 Seven days. 00:16:07.93\00:16:09.20 That goes back to the beginning of the Bible. 00:16:09.23\00:16:10.57 This prophecy is a prophecy connected with creation, also 00:16:10.60\00:16:14.14 prophecy connected with forgiveness. 00:16:14.17\00:16:15.67 Jesus said, how often do I forgive my brother? 00:16:15.70\00:16:17.77 Seventy times seven. 00:16:18.17\00:16:19.54 A week has got seven days and a day in prophecy is how much? 00:16:21.51\00:16:26.38 A year. 00:16:26.41\00:16:27.75 So you got seven years. 00:16:27.78\00:16:29.08 How long did Jesus minister? 00:16:29.12\00:16:30.49 Three and a half years. 00:16:31.59\00:16:33.09 In the middle of this last seven year period that was cut off for 00:16:33.79\00:16:36.79 the Jewish nation, he would cause the sacrifice to cease. 00:16:36.83\00:16:39.89 We're going to read on and find out if all these things happen. 00:16:39.93\00:16:42.13 Jesus, of course, He is baptized after being, He's 30 years of 00:16:43.30\00:16:47.64 age, comes to the Jordan river, John, the Baptist says, "'Behold 00:16:47.67\00:16:52.17 the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.' 00:16:52.21\00:16:54.88 God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with 00:16:55.44\00:16:59.55 power, who went about doing good and healing all that were 00:16:59.58\00:17:03.12 oppressed by the devil, For God was with Him." 00:17:03.15\00:17:05.95 Acts chapter 10. 00:17:05.99\00:17:07.29 He was anointed when He was baptized. 00:17:07.32\00:17:08.66 The Holy Spirit, Jesus did no miracles before that. 00:17:08.69\00:17:11.49 His miraculous ministry and His teaching began with His 00:17:11.73\00:17:15.03 anointing at His baptism. 00:17:15.06\00:17:17.47 That happened in 27 AD, is when He was baptized. 00:17:17.50\00:17:21.44 Then He taught for 3.5 years, and He died in 31 AD. 00:17:21.47\00:17:27.04 What would He do? 00:17:28.08\00:17:29.38 It tells us something about His ministry here. 00:17:29.41\00:17:31.81 You can read, first sermon that Jesus preaches, He stands up in 00:17:32.85\00:17:35.88 his hometown church. 00:17:35.92\00:17:37.22 He reads from this prophecy, Isaiah 61. 00:17:37.25\00:17:40.66 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because the Lord has anointed 00:17:40.96\00:17:44.53 Me to preach the good tidings to the poor. 00:17:44.56\00:17:46.96 He sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to 00:17:47.00\00:17:50.47 the captives, and the opening of prison to those that are bound." 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.80 So talking about the ministry of Jesus, "To proclaim the 00:17:54.20\00:17:57.14 acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God. 00:17:57.17\00:18:01.14 To comfort all those who mourn." 00:18:01.18\00:18:03.28 Christ's ministry was one of warning as well as one of 00:18:03.48\00:18:06.82 comfort, and healing, and preaching, helping people get 00:18:06.85\00:18:09.88 out of prison, so to speak. 00:18:09.92\00:18:11.42 Those who heard Jesus speak, and they sent guards to 00:18:12.39\00:18:15.89 arrest Jesus. 00:18:15.92\00:18:17.26 They came back and the religious leader said, where is He? 00:18:17.29\00:18:19.23 You're supposed to have arrested Him? 00:18:19.26\00:18:20.56 You know what they said? 00:18:20.60\00:18:21.90 No man ever spoke like this Man. 00:18:21.93\00:18:24.40 What about the events surrounding the cross? 00:18:25.63\00:18:27.57 This is where it is especially fascinating. 00:18:27.60\00:18:29.90 During the triumphal entry, "Rejoice greatly O Daughter of 00:18:31.01\00:18:34.91 Zion, and shout O Daughter of Jerusalem, your king is coming 00:18:34.94\00:18:38.51 to you. 00:18:38.55\00:18:39.85 He is just having salvation lowly and riding upon a donkey, 00:18:39.88\00:18:43.55 the colt, the foal of a donkey. 00:18:43.59\00:18:45.42 That is in Zachariah that is written hundreds of years before 00:18:45.45\00:18:48.72 the event happened. 00:18:48.76\00:18:50.06 We know Jesus rode through the golden gate into Jerusalem on a 00:18:50.09\00:18:53.16 donkey just as it was foretold. 00:18:53.19\00:18:56.23 Point number nine, the events around His betrayal. 00:18:56.56\00:18:59.73 Now as you get near the end of Christ's life, there's more and 00:18:59.77\00:19:02.40 more prophecies, so we don't miss the most important event. 00:19:02.44\00:19:05.27 Look at what it says in Psalm 41:9, "Even my own familiar 00:19:06.47\00:19:10.18 friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread has lifted up his 00:19:10.21\00:19:14.02 heel against Me." 00:19:14.05\00:19:15.35 Who was that? 00:19:15.38\00:19:16.72 That's Judas. 00:19:16.75\00:19:17.99 Right after eating with Jesus, eating bread with Him, he goes 00:19:18.02\00:19:21.29 out and he betrays Him, and it tells the amount. 00:19:21.32\00:19:25.43 Zachariah 11, "Then I said to them, if it's agreeable to you, 00:19:25.46\00:19:28.90 give me my wages. 00:19:28.93\00:19:30.33 If not, refrain." 00:19:30.37\00:19:31.83 So they wait out for my wages, 30 pieces of silver. 00:19:31.87\00:19:35.20 Zachariah 11:13 tells what they did with the money. 00:19:36.17\00:19:38.81 And the Lord said to me, throw it to the potter, that princely 00:19:39.41\00:19:42.21 sum, so they set on me. 00:19:42.24\00:19:44.45 So I took the 30 pieces of silver, the exact amount that 00:19:44.78\00:19:47.92 Jesus was betrayed for, and threw them into the house 00:19:47.95\00:19:51.69 of the Lord for the potter. 00:19:51.72\00:19:53.36 They took the money that Judas threw down on the temple floor 00:19:53.39\00:19:57.16 and they used it to buy a potter's field, exactly as it 00:19:57.19\00:20:00.90 had been foretold. 00:20:00.93\00:20:02.23 The manner of His death. 00:20:03.60\00:20:05.13 They didn't have crucifixion when these prophecies were given 00:20:06.20\00:20:08.84 in Psalm 22. 00:20:08.87\00:20:10.21 Jesus on the cross said, "My God, My God, why have you 00:20:10.57\00:20:13.38 forsaken me?" 00:20:13.41\00:20:14.71 That's the first verse. 00:20:14.74\00:20:16.04 Read down later in that very Psalm, and He's giving 00:20:16.08\00:20:18.88 people the clues that should help them know who He was. 00:20:18.91\00:20:21.62 "For dogs have surrounded Me, the congregation of the wicked 00:20:21.98\00:20:25.32 has enclosed Me. 00:20:25.35\00:20:26.69 They pierced My hands and My feet." 00:20:26.72\00:20:28.82 You read in verse 18, "They divide My garments among them 00:20:29.66\00:20:33.26 and for My clothing, they cast lots." 00:20:33.29\00:20:35.43 He details, how could that be a coincidence? 00:20:36.33\00:20:38.43 "And when they crucified him," you read it now in the New 00:20:38.90\00:20:41.04 Testament, "They divided his garments, casting lots for them 00:20:41.07\00:20:44.61 to determine what every man should take. 00:20:44.64\00:20:47.14 And then you read in John 19, "But when they came to Jesus, 00:20:48.24\00:20:52.21 they saw that He was already dead. 00:20:52.71\00:20:54.18 They did not break His legs. 00:20:54.22\00:20:56.08 "But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and 00:20:56.12\00:20:59.62 immediately blood and water came out." 00:20:59.65\00:21:01.82 Psalms had said, "The look on the one whom they have pierced." 00:21:02.16\00:21:06.13 All these prophecies are so clear, and that, a prophecy is 00:21:06.86\00:21:10.73 found in Daniel, in Isaiah, and in Daniel nine. 00:21:10.77\00:21:14.24 So it says he'll confirm the covenant with many for one week. 00:21:14.47\00:21:17.31 But in the middle of the week, he'll bring an end to the 00:21:17.64\00:21:20.68 offering and the sacrifice. 00:21:20.71\00:21:22.24 But what happens, there's still three and half more years? 00:21:22.28\00:21:24.75 The disciples go-- 00:21:25.41\00:21:26.88 The gospel goes like crazy for three and a half more years. 00:21:26.92\00:21:30.69 We're looking at the 70 week chart, prophecy of Jesus, 00:21:30.72\00:21:34.76 the Messiah. 00:21:34.79\00:21:36.12 You read how Stephen was stoned. 00:21:36.16\00:21:39.09 Stephen made a great gospel appeal to the leaders of the 00:21:39.63\00:21:43.13 Jewish nation. 00:21:43.16\00:21:44.47 The Sanhedrin, their version of the Supreme Court. 00:21:44.50\00:21:46.53 They plugged their ears, they took him out of the city. 00:21:46.84\00:21:49.34 They executed him just like Jesus was taken out and executed 00:21:49.70\00:21:52.81 three and a half years earlier. 00:21:52.84\00:21:54.14 He was taken out, executed and Jesus said, "Father, 00:21:54.18\00:21:56.48 forgive them." 00:21:56.51\00:21:57.81 Steven said, "Lord lay not this sin to their charge." 00:21:57.85\00:21:59.78 They took away Jesus's clothes and gambled for them. 00:21:59.81\00:22:02.48 They took the clothes and they laid them at the feet of Saul, 00:22:02.52\00:22:05.92 who later became Paul. 00:22:05.95\00:22:07.42 There's an echo of the crucifixion of Jesus three 00:22:07.46\00:22:10.43 and a half years later. 00:22:10.46\00:22:11.89 That's AD 34. 00:22:12.19\00:22:13.73 At the end of this 490 year prophecy, it matches 00:22:14.00\00:22:17.77 up perfectly. 00:22:17.80\00:22:19.17 And there you've got a picture on the screen of the whole 00:22:19.40\00:22:22.60 beautiful event. 00:22:22.64\00:22:24.04 Friends, there's no question that Jesus was who He says 00:22:24.07\00:22:26.91 He was. 00:22:26.94\00:22:28.24 Can you say amen? 00:22:28.28\00:22:29.61 He came, He fulfilled the time when He came as a baby. 00:22:29.64\00:22:32.68 He fulfilled the time when He began his ministry. 00:22:32.71\00:22:35.05 He fulfilled the time when He died on the cross. 00:22:35.08\00:22:37.69 And ultimately, with the execution of Stephen, 00:22:37.72\00:22:41.99 the gospel then went everywhere. 00:22:42.02\00:22:43.86 You know, now I'm going to read a quote and this comes from 00:22:44.09\00:22:46.39 Flavius Josephus, the great Jewish historian. 00:22:46.43\00:22:48.96 He lived just following the time of Christ, but he was very 00:22:49.33\00:22:54.17 thoroughly aware. 00:22:54.20\00:22:55.57 Listen to what he says. 00:22:55.60\00:22:56.94 "Now there was about this time, Jesus, a wise man. 00:22:57.37\00:23:00.91 If it be lawful to call him a man, for He was a doer of 00:23:00.94\00:23:04.25 wonderful works. 00:23:04.28\00:23:05.61 A teacher of such men has received the truth 00:23:05.65\00:23:07.45 with pleasure. 00:23:07.48\00:23:08.78 And He drew over to Him, both many of the Jews and many of 00:23:08.82\00:23:11.39 the Gentiles. 00:23:11.42\00:23:12.72 He was the Christ. 00:23:12.75\00:23:14.72 And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principle men 00:23:15.22\00:23:17.69 among us, had Him condemned to the cross, those that loved Him 00:23:17.73\00:23:21.76 at the first did not forsake Him. 00:23:21.80\00:23:23.80 For He appeared to them alive again the third day as the 00:23:24.30\00:23:26.87 divine prophets had foretold these things." 00:23:26.90\00:23:29.00 This is incredible friends. 00:23:29.04\00:23:30.37 This is a Jewish historian. 00:23:30.41\00:23:31.91 These and 10,000 other wonderful things concerning Him and the 00:23:33.11\00:23:36.95 tribe of the Christians so named from Him are not extinct to 00:23:36.98\00:23:40.75 this day. 00:23:40.78\00:23:42.12 Freely admits that Jesus was the one. 00:23:42.15\00:23:44.12 Look at how this is incredible. 00:23:44.15\00:23:46.19 The time of His birth, that He'd be born of a virgin, the place 00:23:46.55\00:23:49.72 of His birth, the time of His baptism, the time and length of 00:23:49.76\00:23:53.13 His ministry, the type of His ministry, events of His 00:23:53.16\00:23:55.80 betrayal, the manner of His execution, His resurrection 00:23:55.83\00:23:59.57 and ascension. 00:23:59.60\00:24:01.00 And it is amazing to me that people out there will open the 00:24:01.04\00:24:02.94 Bible and say no, Jesus was not the one. 00:24:02.97\00:24:04.84 If you don't believe this friends, what more evidence 00:24:06.24\00:24:09.34 could you possibly be looking for?
