male announcer: This presentation is brought to you 00:00:02.16\00:00:03.73 by the friends of The Amazing Facts Ministry. 00:00:03.77\00:00:07.10 Doug Batchelor: Did you know it's against the law to doze off 00:00:10.77\00:00:13.71 under a hairdryer in Florida, to play hopscotch on Sunday in 00:00:13.74\00:00:17.55 Missouri, to hunt camels in Arizona, to insert a penny in 00:00:17.58\00:00:22.38 your ear in Hawaii, to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole in 00:00:22.42\00:00:26.55 Atlanta, to catch mice without a license in Cleveland, to put 00:00:26.59\00:00:31.36 a skunk in your boss's desk in Michigan, to detonate a nuclear 00:00:31.39\00:00:35.90 weapon within Chico California city limits, which carries a 00:00:35.93\00:00:39.27 punishment of $500, to bathe less than once a year in 00:00:39.30\00:00:43.10 Kentucky, to pawn your dentures in Las Vegas? 00:00:43.14\00:00:47.51 Yes, there are about two million laws in the US and if a person 00:00:47.54\00:00:52.08 could review them at a rate of about two a day, you'd be 00:00:52.11\00:00:55.28 qualified to act as a law-abiding citizen in about 00:00:55.32\00:00:58.72 6,000 years. 00:00:58.75\00:01:00.62 Yet the Lord was able to summarize the entire duty of man 00:01:00.66\00:01:04.26 to God in just ten simple precepts that contain 00:01:04.29\00:01:07.76 about 325 words. 00:01:07.76\00:01:10.27 Jesus said, God's law boils down to two crucial principles, love 00:01:10.30\00:01:15.20 for God, and love for our fellow man. 00:01:15.24\00:01:18.37 Join me now, friends, as we consider the relevance of 00:01:18.41\00:01:21.51 God's law in our lives today. 00:01:21.54\00:01:24.11 Doug: We're just so excited about this subject tonight 00:01:28.15\00:01:30.25 because we're going to be dealing with some very practical 00:01:30.29\00:01:32.65 things from the Bible that are often neglected. 00:01:32.69\00:01:36.56 Now, the title for our presentation tonight is 00:01:36.59\00:01:39.39 The Commands Of The King. 00:01:39.43\00:01:42.00 And as our custom, we're going to begin with a story 00:01:42.03\00:01:44.00 in the Bible. 00:01:44.03\00:01:45.47 It's one of the famous stories that you find in your Bible in 00:01:45.50\00:01:47.84 the Book of Daniel chapter 6. 00:01:47.87\00:01:50.87 I'll give you a little background. 00:01:50.91\00:01:52.44 You remember we talked, when we talked about the empires, that 00:01:52.47\00:01:56.08 Babylon fell to the Mido-Persians. 00:01:56.11\00:01:59.68 And when Babylon themselves in the Mido-Persians, the Persians, 00:01:59.71\00:02:02.22 they wiped out all of the former administrators that had served 00:02:02.25\00:02:05.12 the Babylonian king, with the exception of Daniel because 00:02:05.15\00:02:08.86 Daniel was an honest man. 00:02:08.89\00:02:11.46 He was a very capable administrator. 00:02:11.49\00:02:13.60 They knew that he had really worshiped Jehovah and his 00:02:13.63\00:02:15.80 allegiance wasn't to any Babylonian king. 00:02:15.83\00:02:19.13 They not only preserved him, but the Bible tells us in chapter 6 00:02:19.17\00:02:23.41 that the king, Darius, was so impressed with Daniel, he 00:02:23.44\00:02:26.81 thought to set him over the whole kingdom. 00:02:26.84\00:02:29.28 He had him as one of his chief administrators, and he was 00:02:29.31\00:02:32.91 thinking of making him the prime minister. 00:02:32.95\00:02:35.68 Well, that really bothered the other politicians in 00:02:35.72\00:02:37.62 the kingdom. 00:02:37.65\00:02:40.56 They said, "Oh, that's Daniel. He's from Judah. 00:02:40.59\00:02:41.92 He's a captive. 00:02:41.96\00:02:43.26 And how are we going to be, you know, extorting money? 00:02:43.29\00:02:48.30 And how are we going to be getting our kickbacks? 00:02:48.33\00:02:50.07 And if he's watching the books all the time, he's too honest. 00:02:50.10\00:02:52.83 We're not going to get anywhere." 00:02:52.87\00:02:55.00 And they really began to resent how much the king trusted in 00:02:55.04\00:02:59.04 Daniel and that relationship. 00:02:59.07\00:03:01.21 And they said, "We got to get him out of the way." 00:03:01.24\00:03:03.61 They hired spies to follow Daniel around. 00:03:03.65\00:03:06.51 The Bible record is that he was Spirit-filled and he was 00:03:06.55\00:03:09.92 faithful in everything he did. 00:03:09.95\00:03:12.62 They put, you know, cameras everywhere to try and catch him. 00:03:12.65\00:03:16.29 They checked his file box to see if he was paying his taxes. 00:03:16.32\00:03:18.93 And in every detail of his life, Daniel was faithful. 00:03:18.96\00:03:22.56 You wonder what would happen if people followed us 00:03:22.60\00:03:26.47 around and spied? 00:03:26.50\00:03:28.40 Do we have integrity? 00:03:28.44\00:03:29.94 Are we the same people in private that we are in public? 00:03:29.97\00:03:32.07 Well, Daniel was. 00:03:32.11\00:03:33.91 Finally, they came up with a scheme. 00:03:33.94\00:03:35.34 They said, "We know how to get rid of him. 00:03:35.38\00:03:37.18 We're not going to find anything against him concerning, you 00:03:37.21\00:03:39.68 know, the kingdom or doing anything unlawful. 00:03:39.71\00:03:42.45 But maybe on religious grounds, we can get rid of him because 00:03:42.48\00:03:45.25 he's a very religious man, and he doesn't worship our gods." 00:03:45.29\00:03:49.22 So, they went and they assembled before the king. 00:03:49.26\00:03:51.23 And they said, "King, we got an idea. 00:03:51.26\00:03:53.83 Since we've now just conquered all these new nations and Persia 00:03:53.86\00:03:57.40 has grown, we think that it'll help solidify the kingdom if we 00:03:57.43\00:04:01.74 make a law that nobody is to pray to anybody but King Darius 00:04:01.77\00:04:05.71 for 30 days, not forever, just for 30 days." 00:04:05.74\00:04:09.04 And you might think, "Well, that's pretty arrogant law 00:04:09.08\00:04:10.65 to make." 00:04:10.68\00:04:11.98 But it was common in ancient history that when a king wanted 00:04:12.01\00:04:16.48 to unite people, if he couldn't do it through their language or 00:04:16.52\00:04:20.12 their culture or their race, they could do it through 00:04:20.16\00:04:22.06 common religion. 00:04:22.09\00:04:24.46 How is the devil going to try to unite the world in 00:04:24.49\00:04:26.06 the last days? 00:04:26.09\00:04:27.56 He compels them all to worship, common worship. 00:04:27.60\00:04:31.23 It wasn't an accident that Julius Caesar and Augustus 00:04:31.27\00:04:34.14 Caesar and Alexander the Great declared themselves to be deity. 00:04:34.17\00:04:38.81 They knew they weren't gods. 00:04:38.84\00:04:41.21 I mean, they got tired and hungry and sore like 00:04:41.24\00:04:42.84 everybody else. 00:04:42.88\00:04:44.18 But they thought if the people think this, it'll help preserve 00:04:44.21\00:04:47.15 the integrity of the kingdom. 00:04:47.18\00:04:48.95 So, they talked the king into it. 00:04:48.98\00:04:50.39 And he said, "Okay, yeah, we can do that for 30 days." 00:04:50.42\00:04:52.99 And he said, "Of course, there's a penalty if they break it, they 00:04:53.02\00:04:54.76 go to the lions' den." 00:04:54.79\00:04:56.16 "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course, there's a penalty." 00:04:56.19\00:04:58.96 And they talk King Darius into signing this law, according to 00:04:58.99\00:05:02.06 the law of the Medes and the Persians, which does not change. 00:05:02.10\00:05:06.67 And then the Bible makes an incredible statement in Daniel 00:05:06.70\00:05:09.07 chapter 6, and verse 10. 00:05:09.10\00:05:12.61 We read, "Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed," 00:05:12.64\00:05:15.84 this law. 00:05:15.88\00:05:17.18 He knows that he's going to go to the lions' den if he's 00:05:17.21\00:05:19.21 caught praying. 00:05:19.25\00:05:21.12 "He went home. 00:05:21.15\00:05:22.52 And in his upper room, with his windows open 00:05:22.55\00:05:24.72 towards Jerusalem--" 00:05:24.75\00:05:26.45 Why were his windows open towards Jerusalem? 00:05:26.49\00:05:28.79 Because Solomon said, "If you are carried away captive to 00:05:28.82\00:05:30.96 another land, if they pray towards this place, then hear in 00:05:30.99\00:05:35.16 heaven and answer their prayer." 00:05:35.20\00:05:37.90 It says he knelt down on his knees in his upper room where 00:05:37.93\00:05:41.80 everybody could see him. 00:05:41.84\00:05:43.24 And he opened his windows there in the courtyard where everyone 00:05:43.27\00:05:45.57 could see. 00:05:45.61\00:05:46.91 And he prayed out loud where everybody could hear. 00:05:46.94\00:05:49.04 He did absolutely nothing to show that he was 00:05:49.08\00:05:51.91 worshiping Darius. 00:05:51.95\00:05:53.52 He wanted everyone to know, "My custom is not going to change." 00:05:53.55\00:05:57.12 You know, the Bible tells us that this was his custom from 00:05:57.15\00:05:59.95 his youth. 00:06:00.06\00:06:01.66 He prayed three times a day, why? 00:06:01.69\00:06:03.49 Daniel read in Psalm 55, verse 17 where King David said, 00:06:03.53\00:06:06.80 "Morning, evening, and at noon will I pray and lift up 00:06:06.83\00:06:09.56 my voice." 00:06:09.60\00:06:10.93 And Daniel, not only read the Bible, you can read in the Book 00:06:10.97\00:06:13.97 of Daniel where Daniel says, "I was reading 00:06:14.00\00:06:15.57 the Book of Jeremiah." 00:06:15.60\00:06:17.37 Daniel was a Bible student. 00:06:17.41\00:06:19.27 He read the Bible, and he lived out the Bible. 00:06:19.31\00:06:21.88 So, when the king makes this law that says you can't pray to 00:06:21.91\00:06:24.65 anybody but the king for 30 days, Daniel's got to 00:06:24.68\00:06:27.12 make a choice. 00:06:27.15\00:06:28.92 "Do I obey the law of the government or the law of God? 00:06:28.95\00:06:33.02 Do I worship the way the government is telling me to 00:06:33.05\00:06:35.02 worship or the way God is telling me to worship?" 00:06:35.06\00:06:38.43 One of the Ten Commandment says, "You shall not have 00:06:38.46\00:06:39.86 other gods," right? 00:06:39.89\00:06:42.03 And so, Daniel said, "I'm not going to disobey. 00:06:42.06\00:06:46.87 I've spent my whole life serving Jehovah. 00:06:46.90\00:06:48.94 He's taken good care of me. 00:06:48.97\00:06:50.54 Whatever the consequences, if I go to the lions' den, I go to 00:06:50.57\00:06:52.74 the lions' den." 00:06:52.77\00:06:54.71 And it's amazing to me his courage. 00:06:54.74\00:06:56.88 It would have been so easy for him to just leave his windows 00:06:56.91\00:06:59.25 closed for 30 days but he said, "These people all know that I'm 00:06:59.28\00:07:02.65 like a cuckoo clock, three times a day, I come out and I pray. 00:07:02.68\00:07:06.29 And if they see me close my windows, they're going to think 00:07:06.32\00:07:07.96 I'm compromising my love for God, and I'm not going to let 00:07:07.99\00:07:09.96 them see that." 00:07:09.99\00:07:11.59 So, he opens his window. 00:07:11.63\00:07:13.36 He could have opened his windows and looked like he was just 00:07:13.40\00:07:14.93 sniffing the flowers and prayed in his heart, but he got on his 00:07:14.96\00:07:16.97 knees so in his posture, they'd see he was praying. 00:07:17.00\00:07:20.74 Then he prayed out loud, and they could hear 00:07:20.77\00:07:22.70 what he was praying. 00:07:22.74\00:07:24.54 Well, sure enough, the men assembled, and they saw 00:07:24.57\00:07:26.71 what Daniel was doing. 00:07:26.74\00:07:28.04 Here's the rest of that verse. 00:07:28.08\00:07:29.64 "He knelt down on his knees three times that day, 00:07:29.68\00:07:31.71 and he prayed." 00:07:31.75\00:07:33.11 And the other amazing thing is it says he prayed, 00:07:33.15\00:07:34.72 and he gave thanks. 00:07:34.75\00:07:36.62 Now, if you were about to become cat food, would you thank God? 00:07:36.65\00:07:40.99 He was thankful in everything. 00:07:41.02\00:07:42.62 Give thanks, the Bible says. 00:07:42.66\00:07:44.29 He prayed and gave things before his God, as was his custom 00:07:44.33\00:07:47.73 since early days. 00:07:47.76\00:07:49.03 Now, this is a very important study because we're going to be 00:07:49.06\00:07:52.27 dealing with the law of God and how it relates to prophecy 00:07:52.30\00:07:55.77 in the last days. 00:07:55.80\00:07:57.77 Well, when the king realized these men who had trapped 00:07:57.81\00:08:00.34 Daniel, they went in before the king and said, "Didn't us sign a 00:08:00.38\00:08:03.01 law that said if anyone prays to any god or man for 30 days, 00:08:03.04\00:08:06.38 he's going to lions' den?" 00:08:06.41\00:08:08.02 The king said, "Yeah, yeah." 00:08:08.05\00:08:09.85 "Well, that Daniel from the captivity of Judah, he prays 00:08:09.88\00:08:11.72 and makes his petition three times a day." 00:08:11.75\00:08:14.32 And the king went, "Oh, it was a trap. 00:08:14.36\00:08:17.16 I see what you guys were doing." 00:08:17.19\00:08:19.56 The king tried to change his law, but he could not. 00:08:19.59\00:08:23.33 It says three or four times in that chapter, chapter 6 00:08:23.37\00:08:25.93 of Daniel, "The law of the Medes and the Persians, 00:08:25.97\00:08:28.27 which does not change." 00:08:28.30\00:08:29.70 It does not change, cannot be altered. 00:08:29.74\00:08:32.67 And the king got his lawyers together and he said, 00:08:32.71\00:08:34.84 "Is there any loophole? 00:08:34.88\00:08:36.41 Any way that we can save Daniel?" 00:08:36.44\00:08:37.98 They said, "Your Highness, there's none. 00:08:38.01\00:08:39.55 The law cannot be changed. 00:08:39.58\00:08:41.28 He's got to go to the lions' den, at least for 24 hours." 00:08:41.32\00:08:45.32 "So, the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel," this 00:08:45.35\00:08:48.72 is verse 16, "and they cast him into the den of lions." 00:08:48.76\00:08:54.20 But the king spoke, and he said to Daniel, "You're God, 00:08:54.23\00:08:57.83 who you serve from time to time--" 00:08:57.87\00:09:01.77 How often? 00:09:01.80\00:09:03.30 "Your God who you serve continually, 00:09:03.34\00:09:05.87 He will deliver you." 00:09:05.91\00:09:07.64 Is that still true today? 00:09:07.68\00:09:10.78 If you have a life of serving God, He will deliver you. 00:09:10.81\00:09:14.12 And if you stand up for what's right, He will honor you 00:09:14.15\00:09:17.49 if you honor Him. 00:09:17.52\00:09:19.19 Well, Daniel went to the lions's den, but when the king came 00:09:19.22\00:09:22.62 the next morning, the lions did not bother Daniel, you know why? 00:09:22.66\00:09:27.10 He had too much backbone. 00:09:27.13\00:09:29.96 He knew how to stand. 00:09:30.00\00:09:32.73 Matter of fact, he probably--he was about 80, 85 years old 00:09:32.77\00:09:34.57 at this point in his life. 00:09:34.60\00:09:36.20 He got tired, he leaned up against the lion. 00:09:36.24\00:09:38.44 He pulled his tail. 00:09:38.47\00:09:39.77 It hummed and purred, and he went to sleep. 00:09:39.81\00:09:42.58 Wasn't afraid at all. 00:09:42.61\00:09:46.21 And the Bible tells us in Hebrews chapter 11, through 00:09:46.25\00:09:48.38 faith, people have stopped the mouths of lions. 00:09:48.42\00:09:52.49 Next morning, the king brought Daniel out of the lions's den. 00:09:52.52\00:09:55.82 And the Bible says that there was no harm on him 00:09:55.86\00:09:58.93 because he believed in God. 00:09:58.96\00:10:02.40 Now, we are saved by believing in God. 00:10:02.43\00:10:05.23 That's called faith. 00:10:05.27\00:10:06.90 Daniel was saved by faith, but how did he show his faith? 00:10:06.94\00:10:10.91 He chose to obey the commands of God instead of the commands 00:10:10.94\00:10:14.64 of the government. 00:10:14.68\00:10:17.21 We're going to be faced with the same issues in the last days. 00:10:17.25\00:10:20.88 You might be thinking, "Pastor Doug, in a prophecy seminar like 00:10:20.92\00:10:22.92 this, why are we talking about the law of God?" 00:10:22.95\00:10:26.39 Let me give you three quotes from the Book of Revelation, 00:10:26.42\00:10:28.72 book of prophecy in the Bible, last book in the Bible. 00:10:28.76\00:10:31.23 Revelation, chapter 12, verse 17, "The dragon was wroth with 00:10:31.26\00:10:35.63 the woman, and he went to make war with a remnant of his 00:10:35.66\00:10:39.13 seed--her seed that keeps the commandments of God." 00:10:39.17\00:10:43.24 Who does the devil make war with? 00:10:43.27\00:10:44.77 The ones who keep the commandments of God. 00:10:44.81\00:10:47.08 You look in Revelation chapter 14, verse 12, "Here is 00:10:47.11\00:10:50.45 the patience of the saints. 00:10:50.48\00:10:52.31 Here are those who keep the commandments of God and have 00:10:52.35\00:10:55.48 the faith of Jesus." 00:10:55.52\00:10:57.45 Go to the last chapter in the Bible. 00:10:57.49\00:10:59.22 It's real easy to find, last chapter in Revelation. 00:10:59.25\00:11:02.89 And said, "Blessed are those that keep His commandments, that 00:11:02.92\00:11:05.96 they might have a right to the tree of life and enter in 00:11:05.99\00:11:09.26 through the gates of the city." 00:11:09.30\00:11:10.77 So, here's three times in Revelation it says that the 00:11:10.80\00:11:13.54 people who are going to be successful and survive are the 00:11:13.57\00:11:17.14 ones who are obedient. 00:11:17.17\00:11:18.71 Indeed, when you look at the messages of Jesus to the seven 00:11:18.74\00:11:20.88 churches in chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation, it says, "To him who 00:11:20.91\00:11:24.08 overcomes, to him who overcomes, to him who overcomes" 00:11:24.11\00:11:26.31 seven times. 00:11:26.35\00:11:27.85 God wants His people to be an obedient people. 00:11:27.88\00:11:30.99 Now, I believe, in case there's any question I don't want you to 00:11:31.02\00:11:33.89 doubt this at all, we are saved by grace through faith. 00:11:33.92\00:11:37.46 We are saved by faith. 00:11:37.49\00:11:39.33 But I believe when you are saved by faith, you will obey. 00:11:39.36\00:11:43.53 Obedience is not legalism. 00:11:43.57\00:11:46.77 Some pastors are making it sound today like if you believe in or 00:11:46.80\00:11:49.87 talk about obedience, you are automatically a legalist. 00:11:49.90\00:11:53.01 The Bible does not teach that. 00:11:53.04\00:11:54.68 Let me give you a few things to think about in our study this 00:11:54.71\00:11:57.55 evening that are very important. 00:11:57.58\00:11:59.15 First question, we're going to go through some of these 00:11:59.18\00:12:01.08 important questions. 00:12:01.12\00:12:02.58 Can God's moral law--now, when I say moral law, the central topic 00:12:02.62\00:12:05.62 we're talking about now is the Ten Commandments. 00:12:05.65\00:12:09.12 You've got what they sometimes called the Decalogue because you 00:12:09.16\00:12:11.99 got the ten words that God spoke there. 00:12:12.03\00:12:15.26 There are a number of laws in the Bible. 00:12:15.30\00:12:16.70 You got some health laws and civil laws and ceremonial laws, 00:12:16.73\00:12:19.50 and we're not talking about that. 00:12:19.53\00:12:21.04 We're talking about the basic moral law of 00:12:21.07\00:12:22.47 the Ten Commandments. 00:12:22.50\00:12:24.37 And there's a lot of people on the street, a lot of people in 00:12:24.41\00:12:27.08 the churches, and if you interview them and say, "Can you 00:12:27.11\00:12:29.61 name all Ten Commandments?" 00:12:29.64\00:12:31.71 I'll bet you 80% can't. 00:12:31.75\00:12:34.72 It's really amazing. 00:12:34.75\00:12:36.12 And yet, the Bible tells us that this is the time when God spoke 00:12:36.15\00:12:39.59 to the whole nation. 00:12:39.62\00:12:41.26 He wrote with his own finger, and it was a big priority. 00:12:41.29\00:12:44.49 So, can God's moral law, the Ten Commandments, 00:12:44.53\00:12:47.50 be amended or repealed? 00:12:47.56\00:12:49.50 What does the Bible say? 00:12:49.53\00:12:51.07 Luke 16:17 Jesus said, "It's easier for heaven and earth to 00:12:51.10\00:12:54.77 pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail." 00:12:54.80\00:12:58.31 A tittle is like what you and I use to cross a T. 00:12:58.34\00:13:01.21 It's one of the smallest characters in Hebrew. 00:13:01.24\00:13:03.45 It says, "Nothing will pass from the law." 00:13:03.48\00:13:06.11 The law is eternal in its nature. 00:13:06.15\00:13:08.48 Again, he tells us in Psalm 89, verse 34, "My covenant I will 00:13:08.52\00:13:13.22 not alter, I will not break, or alter the words that have gone 00:13:13.25\00:13:17.23 out of My lips." 00:13:17.26\00:13:18.69 By the way, the Ten Commandments are called a covenant. 00:13:18.73\00:13:22.16 And you're going to say, "Well, that's the Old Covenant." 00:13:22.20\00:13:23.67 That's right. 00:13:23.70\00:13:25.00 We're going to find out more about that tonight too. 00:13:25.03\00:13:27.27 And you can also read there in Psalm 111, verse 7 and 8, "All 00:13:27.30\00:13:31.04 of His precepts are sure. 00:13:31.07\00:13:33.34 They stand forever and ever." 00:13:33.38\00:13:36.01 They stand fast forever and ever. 00:13:36.04\00:13:38.95 And then finally in Malachi chapter 3, verse 6, God says, 00:13:38.98\00:13:42.72 "I am the Lord, I do not change." 00:13:42.75\00:13:45.72 Now, if I'm going to write something that is going to be 00:13:45.75\00:13:49.09 erased, I use a pencil. 00:13:49.12\00:13:50.99 If I'm going to be--you know, sometimes I'm marking my Bible, 00:13:51.03\00:13:53.26 and I just use a pencil because I thought I might change that 00:13:53.29\00:13:55.36 note later, and I want it to be erasable. 00:13:55.40\00:13:58.63 If I write something in stone, you usually want it 00:13:58.67\00:14:00.97 to last, right? 00:14:01.00\00:14:03.10 And so, when God wrote the Ten Commandments in stone, this is 00:14:03.14\00:14:06.31 something that is of an internal--eternal nature. 00:14:06.34\00:14:09.71 Doug: Don't go anywhere, friends. 00:14:11.31\00:14:12.71 In just a few moments, we'll return and complete 00:14:12.75\00:14:14.25 this presentation. 00:14:14.28\00:14:15.78 You know, one of the big debates in the Christian world today has 00:14:15.82\00:14:18.65 to do with, how does a Christian relate to the law of God? 00:14:18.69\00:14:22.89 Now, clearly, some things were nailed to the cross, and 00:14:22.92\00:14:25.39 a Christian does not need to keep the Old Covenant. 00:14:25.43\00:14:28.56 But what about the Ten Commandments? 00:14:28.60\00:14:30.93 After all, they're not called the ten recommendations 00:14:30.97\00:14:33.40 or the ten suggestions or God's ten good ideas. 00:14:33.44\00:14:36.97 We have a special lesson we'd like to share with you and it's 00:14:37.01\00:14:39.84 called "Written In Stone." 00:14:39.87\00:14:41.71 Even in the title, you can understand Ten Commandments were 00:14:41.74\00:14:44.58 written by the finger of God in stone so obviously, 00:14:44.61\00:14:47.52 this is important. 00:14:47.55\00:14:49.15 If you'd like to understand this subject and much more related to 00:14:49.18\00:14:51.52 it, then make sure and send for this free offer, 00:14:51.55\00:14:54.66 and you'll be blessed. 00:14:54.69\00:14:56.19 To get your free copy, call the phone number on your screen and 00:14:56.56\00:14:59.06 ask for offer number 111. 00:14:59.09\00:15:01.60 And after you read this incredible resource, make sure 00:15:01.63\00:15:03.97 and share it with a friend. 00:15:04.00\00:15:05.53 Let's get back to today's presentation and learn some more 00:15:05.57\00:15:07.90 amazing facts about the Word of God. 00:15:07.94\00:15:10.97 Doug: One reason this truth is so very important is for 00:15:11.84\00:15:15.28 those who are trying to say we don't need the law, they're 00:15:15.31\00:15:18.51 really trying to get rid of God because the law of God is 00:15:18.55\00:15:22.18 the perfect expression and reflection of the character 00:15:22.22\00:15:26.35 of God. 00:15:26.39\00:15:27.69 Look at these verses. 00:15:27.72\00:15:29.19 The Bible defines God, it says for one thing, God is good. 00:15:29.22\00:15:32.16 Well, it says the law is good, Romans 7, verse 12. 00:15:32.19\00:15:35.36 You read in Isaiah 5:16, "God is holy." 00:15:35.40\00:15:38.53 Romans 7:12 says, "The law is holy." 00:15:38.57\00:15:41.87 God is described as just. 00:15:41.90\00:15:44.11 The Bible says the law is just. 00:15:44.14\00:15:46.78 It tells us in Matthew 5, "God is perfect." 00:15:46.81\00:15:49.54 It says, "His law is perfect." 00:15:49.58\00:15:51.71 God is love. 00:15:51.75\00:15:53.18 The Bible says, "The law is love." 00:15:53.21\00:15:55.95 It says, "God is righteous. 00:15:55.98\00:15:58.22 God is truth. 00:15:58.25\00:15:59.72 God is pure, spiritual, unchangeable, eternal." 00:15:59.75\00:16:03.73 And it uses the same definitions for the law. 00:16:03.76\00:16:07.60 So, whenever people start saying, "Well, we're saved by 00:16:07.60\00:16:09.40 grace, we're not under the law anymore. 00:16:09.43\00:16:10.93 We don't need the law anymore." 00:16:10.97\00:16:12.47 You be very careful about that because you're like pushing 00:16:12.50\00:16:14.57 God aside. 00:16:14.60\00:16:16.24 Let me explain why the law is so important is this is how you 00:16:16.27\00:16:19.24 lift up Jesus and our need for Jesus. 00:16:19.27\00:16:21.78 Sin is the transgression of the law. 00:16:21.81\00:16:23.98 We're going to get to that. 00:16:24.01\00:16:26.18 Jesus came to save us from our sin. 00:16:26.21\00:16:28.62 If you don't have law, you don't have sin. 00:16:28.65\00:16:32.59 If you don't have sin, you don't need a Savior. 00:16:32.62\00:16:35.99 The devil hates the law. 00:16:36.02\00:16:38.53 He is attacking them, read in Revelation chapter 14. 00:16:38.56\00:16:41.53 The devil, in Revelation chapter 12, verse 17, he is attacking 00:16:41.56\00:16:45.63 the ones who keep the commandments of God because they 00:16:45.67\00:16:49.54 recognize their need of the Savior, and they're 00:16:49.57\00:16:52.84 exalting that. 00:16:52.87\00:16:54.41 And in the last days, we know that the beast power is going to 00:16:54.44\00:16:57.81 make a law that everybody needs to worship a certain way 00:16:57.85\00:17:00.65 or they cannot buy or sell. 00:17:00.68\00:17:02.65 That's assuming there's still things in the store to buy and 00:17:02.68\00:17:04.22 sell, amen. 00:17:04.25\00:17:05.72 And then ultimately, there's a death decree. 00:17:05.75\00:17:09.92 You look in Daniel chapter 3, those who do not worship the 00:17:09.96\00:17:12.59 image, government makes a law says, "You've got to worship the 00:17:12.63\00:17:16.10 way we say or you'll be killed, you go to the fiery furnace." 00:17:16.13\00:17:19.53 Daniel chapter 6, you got to break the first commandment, 00:17:19.57\00:17:22.37 or you go to the fiery furnace. 00:17:22.40\00:17:24.41 And you can read in the Book of Esther, unless they bowed down 00:17:24.44\00:17:27.54 and worshiped Haman, he can wipe out the whole nation. 00:17:27.58\00:17:30.95 And the governments were making laws that conflicted with 00:17:30.98\00:17:32.91 the law of God. 00:17:32.95\00:17:34.52 We are going to be faced with the same issue in the last days, 00:17:34.55\00:17:37.49 there's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. 00:17:37.52\00:17:39.52 So, Christians who are interested in Bible prophecy, 00:17:39.55\00:17:42.29 you need to know you're not saved by just knowing 00:17:42.32\00:17:44.43 Bible prophecy. 00:17:44.46\00:17:45.79 Jesus wants to save you from your sin. 00:17:45.83\00:17:48.76 He wants to transform your life. 00:17:48.80\00:17:50.17 You know, there's something I sometimes do when I cover this 00:17:50.20\00:17:53.10 subject that helps make it clear for people. 00:17:53.13\00:17:55.84 We seem to learn better by visuals. 00:17:55.87\00:18:01.61 Make sure I don't turn over the prophecy code. 00:18:02.41\00:18:09.48 All right now, let's get right on with our lesson here. 00:18:09.92\00:18:14.39 Would it distract you if I continued like this? 00:18:14.42\00:18:18.39 Do any of you see anything wrong right now? 00:18:18.43\00:18:21.56 You see anything? 00:18:21.60\00:18:24.47 I mean, if I walked out the door like this, would you stop me as 00:18:24.50\00:18:26.70 a friend and say, "Hey, you got a wardrobe malfunction. 00:18:26.74\00:18:29.70 You got to do something about this." 00:18:29.74\00:18:31.71 I would hope you'd say, "Doug, come here. 00:18:31.74\00:18:33.27 Let me help you a little bit." 00:18:33.31\00:18:34.68 Have you ever walked up to somebody and it's like, you 00:18:34.71\00:18:37.01 know, you help fix their attire because they're 00:18:37.05\00:18:38.58 having a problem? 00:18:38.61\00:18:40.32 Quick story. 00:18:40.35\00:18:41.65 I was going through an airport and rushing to get a flight. 00:18:41.68\00:18:44.99 you know, you've got to go through security. 00:18:45.02\00:18:46.59 I'm thinking most of you have been through security 00:18:46.62\00:18:48.22 at some point. 00:18:48.26\00:18:49.56 And there this business guy ahead of me. 00:18:49.59\00:18:51.19 And you got to take off all your clothes and your shoes 00:18:51.23\00:18:52.86 and your belt and everything. 00:18:52.89\00:18:54.30 And you got to reassemble yourself, and you're rushing 00:18:54.30\00:18:55.66 for your plane. 00:18:55.70\00:18:57.07 And I saw this one guy ahead of me. 00:18:57.10\00:18:58.40 And sometimes a guy, when he puts on sport coat, if you're 00:18:58.43\00:19:00.60 not paying attention, you get your collar all, you know, wonky 00:19:00.64\00:19:03.94 like this and it lowers your perceived IQ. 00:19:03.97\00:19:07.51 Isn't that right, if someone walks around like this? 00:19:07.54\00:19:09.78 And so, I saw this guy. 00:19:09.81\00:19:11.15 I said, "Here, let me help you," and I grabbed his jacket and I 00:19:11.18\00:19:13.58 straightened it out. 00:19:13.62\00:19:14.92 And he gave me the strangest look. 00:19:14.95\00:19:16.69 I thought, I was just trying to be helpful. 00:19:16.72\00:19:18.72 He looked at me like that. 00:19:18.75\00:19:20.06 Then I went into the men's room and I looked, and my collar 00:19:20.09\00:19:21.79 was like this. 00:19:21.82\00:19:26.39 And here I was, I was helping him. 00:19:26.43\00:19:28.90 So, you'd stop me before I went out the door like this, right? 00:19:28.93\00:19:33.00 You'd say, "Doug, you got something on your face." 00:19:33.03\00:19:35.30 And I'd say, "I don't have anything on my face. 00:19:35.34\00:19:37.74 I don't see anything wrong with my face." 00:19:37.77\00:19:40.11 You'd say, "No, Doug, you got something on your face." 00:19:40.14\00:19:42.21 I'd say, "Prove it." 00:19:42.24\00:19:43.61 What do I have to do? A mirror. 00:19:43.65\00:19:46.88 I heard it just in unison. 00:19:46.92\00:19:48.52 Well, it just so happens that the lovely Vanna Batchelor is 00:19:48.55\00:19:53.99 going to--I felt fine until I looked in the mirror. 00:19:54.02\00:19:59.89 So, since the mirror showed me the problem, it stands to reason 00:19:59.93\00:20:03.80 that the mirror should take care of the problem. 00:20:03.83\00:20:07.14 Is this going to take care of my problem? 00:20:07.17\00:20:09.67 No. 00:20:09.70\00:20:11.31 Well, I felt fine until I looked in the mirror, so ignorance 00:20:11.34\00:20:15.68 is bliss. 00:20:15.71\00:20:17.31 If I throw the mirror away and just pretend it's not there, 00:20:17.35\00:20:19.78 does that take care of my problem? 00:20:19.81\00:20:22.25 I heard about a man years ago in China that they shipped one of 00:20:22.28\00:20:24.85 these newfangled microscopes to the country. 00:20:24.89\00:20:27.52 And he was fascinating with looking at all these things 00:20:27.56\00:20:30.23 under the microscope and just all the life and 00:20:30.26\00:20:32.59 the detail he saw. 00:20:32.63\00:20:34.46 And he got the idea to put his rice under the microscope. 00:20:34.50\00:20:38.37 And on his rice, he saw all these microscopic things 00:20:38.40\00:20:42.37 crawling around. 00:20:42.40\00:20:44.61 So, he destroyed the microscope because he really liked 00:20:44.64\00:20:47.71 his rice. 00:20:47.74\00:20:50.51 And some people don't like the law. 00:20:50.55\00:20:51.88 You know what the problem is? 00:20:51.91\00:20:53.52 There's nothing wrong with the law. 00:20:53.55\00:20:54.92 The law is just and holy and good, but it shows us our sins. 00:20:54.95\00:20:59.05 We want to get rid of it. 00:20:59.09\00:21:00.99 That's the bottom line, friends. 00:21:01.02\00:21:02.52 Is the function of the law to take away the sin. 00:21:02.56\00:21:07.46 So, what do I do? It shows me the problem. 00:21:07.50\00:21:09.43 It's not fair it would show me and not help me. 00:21:09.46\00:21:10.90 What do I need? 00:21:10.93\00:21:13.40 Well, if it's a mark on my face--I used to do this with 00:21:13.44\00:21:15.34 marker, and one time I accidentally used a permanent 00:21:15.37\00:21:17.97 marker and rubbing it off my head, went from black to red. 00:21:18.01\00:21:25.38 But so, I need a cloth. 00:21:25.41\00:21:27.55 I need the blood of Jesus. 00:21:27.58\00:21:30.12 And so, here she is again, conveniently. 00:21:30.15\00:21:33.89 So, what does this represent? 00:21:33.92\00:21:37.86 What does this? 00:21:37.89\00:21:39.63 What does this? 00:21:39.66\00:21:41.80 The blood of Christ. 00:21:41.83\00:21:43.60 This shows me the problem, this takes care of the problem. 00:21:43.63\00:21:47.30 Let me see if this make it look like it works. 00:21:47.34\00:21:50.54 So, we are saved by the blood. 00:21:50.57\00:21:52.74 Now, if you get rid of this, you don't see this and you don't 00:21:52.77\00:21:56.38 know that there's a problem. 00:21:56.41\00:21:58.35 And you go through life with sin and all the consequences of sin. 00:21:58.38\00:22:02.82 All right, I'm going to sit this back over here. 00:22:02.85\00:22:05.89 So, that just helps us sometimes to understand and realize what 00:22:05.92\00:22:09.46 the function of the law is. 00:22:09.49\00:22:11.03 We're not teaching that we are saved by the law. 00:22:11.06\00:22:13.03 We are saved by grace. 00:22:13.06\00:22:14.73 According to the Bible, what is sin? 00:22:14.73\00:22:18.23 The Bible says sin is lawlessness. 00:22:18.27\00:22:21.27 And if you got the King James there, it tells us sin is the 00:22:21.30\00:22:23.81 transgression of the law. 00:22:23.84\00:22:26.31 Jesus came to save us from our lawlessness. 00:22:26.34\00:22:29.94 And the Bible tells us that God is holy, and he's calling 00:22:29.98\00:22:32.45 us to holiness. 00:22:32.48\00:22:34.22 Again, you can read in Romans chapter 3, verse 20, "For by the 00:22:34.25\00:22:37.85 law is the knowledge of sin." 00:22:37.89\00:22:40.62 The law shows us our sin, but it's not supposed to save us 00:22:40.66\00:22:43.53 from our sin. 00:22:43.56\00:22:45.13 But we need it because it then drives us to Jesus. 00:22:45.16\00:22:47.60 It shows us where we are. 00:22:47.66\00:22:49.60 The Bible says that we should examine ourselves according to 00:22:49.63\00:22:53.34 God's law. 00:22:53.37\00:22:55.14 You read in the Book of James, it says, "So do and so live as 00:22:55.17\00:22:59.71 those that will be judged by the law of liberty." 00:22:59.74\00:23:02.71 And if you look in Psalm 119, verse 44 and 45, it says, "So 00:23:02.74\00:23:08.55 I'll keep your commandments forever and ever, and I will 00:23:08.58\00:23:10.65 walk at liberty because I seek your law." 00:23:10.69\00:23:14.19 We're free because of the law. 00:23:14.22\00:23:16.99 The law does not bind us. The law frees us. 00:23:17.03\00:23:20.26 There are people who are in jail here in the Sacramento County or 00:23:20.30\00:23:22.86 Placer County because they've broken the law. 00:23:22.90\00:23:26.30 I am free because I didn't. 00:23:26.33\00:23:29.04 See what I'm saying? 00:23:29.07\00:23:30.41 And so, the law actually protects your freedom. 00:23:30.44\00:23:32.81 People always think of stoplights as stoplights but, 00:23:32.84\00:23:35.01 you know, they're not just stoplights, they're go lights. 00:23:35.04\00:23:38.31 If you make all the stoplights stop working, you'll see how 00:23:38.35\00:23:40.38 important those stoplights are. 00:23:40.42\00:23:42.58 They're really go lights. 00:23:42.62\00:23:45.19 To what law does John, 1 John 3, verse 4 refer? 00:23:45.22\00:23:48.86 Well, you can read in Romans 7:7, it's pretty clear he's 00:23:48.89\00:23:50.89 talking about the Ten Commandments. 00:23:50.93\00:23:52.96 "I would have not known sin except through the law. 00:23:52.99\00:23:55.83 For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had 00:23:55.86\00:23:59.03 said, 'You shall not covet.'" 00:23:59.07\00:24:02.44 And so, it's the law that helps us to recognize 00:24:02.47\00:24:05.14 our need of Christ. 00:24:05.17\00:24:06.68 And here he's specifically mentioning one of 00:24:06.71\00:24:08.51 the Ten Commandments. 00:24:08.54\00:24:09.84 He says breaking that law is sin. 00:24:09.88\00:24:13.25 Jesus died to save us from our sin. 00:24:13.28\00:24:16.05 He died to save us from our lawlessness. 00:24:16.08\00:24:19.12 Now, do you know what those laws are? 00:24:19.15\00:24:23.26 And you go through the Ten Commandments, 00:24:23.29\00:24:25.23 "Do not worship other gods." 00:24:25.26\00:24:27.10 I'll just do a brief summary right now. 00:24:27.13\00:24:29.23 "You shall not have other gods before me. 00:24:29.26\00:24:30.90 Don't make an image of those gods and bow down to them. 00:24:30.93\00:24:34.07 Do not take the name of the Lord in vain. 00:24:34.10\00:24:36.24 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:24:36.27\00:24:38.14 Honor your father and mother. 00:24:38.17\00:24:40.21 You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. 00:24:40.24\00:24:42.61 You shall not bear false witness. 00:24:42.64\00:24:43.95 And you shall not covet." 00:24:43.98\00:24:46.08 If people in our society were keeping those laws today, if we 00:24:46.11\00:24:49.75 were teaching them, you'd have a lot less crime. 00:24:49.78\00:24:53.86 Crime has kind of gone through the roof. 00:24:53.89\00:24:55.96 The average 18 year old has witnessed 200,000 violent acts, 00:24:55.99\00:25:00.80 including 400,000 murders on television by the time they're 00:25:00.83\00:25:03.87 18, they've witnessed. 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.67 Now, this is actually an older statistic. 00:25:05.70\00:25:07.54 Today, with all the screens that people have before them, they've 00:25:07.57\00:25:11.07 got their TV screen, their iPad, they've got their computer 00:25:11.11\00:25:15.14 screen, their phone screen, and people are watching YouTubes 00:25:15.18\00:25:19.51 and stuff all the time. 00:25:19.55\00:25:21.02 The violence, the adultery, using God's name in vain that 00:25:21.05\00:25:24.39 people are hearing and watching almost without interruption, 00:25:24.42\00:25:28.56 it's having an impact on our culture. 00:25:28.59\00:25:31.93 I'll tell you that. 00:25:31.96\00:25:33.46 When I was a kid in public school in California down in 00:25:33.50\00:25:37.67 Burbank, California, we had the Ten Commandments on the wall 00:25:37.70\00:25:42.80 in our public school. 00:25:42.84\00:25:44.27 Does anyone else remember that? 00:25:44.31\00:25:46.44 Yeah, it's and now it's against the law. 00:25:46.47\00:25:49.14 They can't even have it in the courthouse. 00:25:49.18\00:25:51.15 It's amazing. 00:25:51.18\00:25:52.68 Do you know that every year, $13 billion are stolen 00:25:52.71\00:25:55.55 in North America from retailers? 00:25:55.58\00:25:57.92 There are 27 million shoplifters in our nation. 00:25:57.95\00:26:01.06 That's 10% of all people. 00:26:01.09\00:26:04.99 And this is from the Department of Consumer Affairs, 47% of 00:26:05.03\00:26:07.86 high school students have shoplifted, nearly half. 00:26:07.86\00:26:12.07 According to the US Chamber of Commerce, 75% of employees steal 00:26:12.10\00:26:15.64 from their employers at least once. 00:26:15.67\00:26:17.97 Now granted, sometimes they just stole a stapler, sometimes they 00:26:18.01\00:26:20.74 embezzled thousands or millions of dollars. 00:26:20.78\00:26:23.91 But stealing is stealing. 00:26:23.95\00:26:25.28 Do you know you can go to hell for stealing a pen? 00:26:25.31\00:26:28.12 It's the spirit of stealing if it's in your heart. 00:26:28.15\00:26:32.12 Across the US, there were 25% more murders recorded in 2020 00:26:32.15\00:26:36.02 than the previous year. 00:26:36.06\00:26:37.89 You have heard crime is going up. 00:26:37.93\00:26:40.36 And I can't help but wonder if it's not something that 00:26:40.40\00:26:42.86 politics--I don't think politicians are going to be able 00:26:42.90\00:26:46.20 to solve this by putting a BAND-AID on a bullet wound. 00:26:46.23\00:26:50.11 I think what's happened is the culture has taken the law of God 00:26:50.14\00:26:53.74 out of our society. 00:26:53.78\00:26:56.14 announcer: Don't forget to request today's life-changing, 00:27:00.42\00:27:02.32 free resource. 00:27:02.35\00:27:03.92 Not only can you receive this free gift in the mail, you can 00:27:03.95\00:27:06.25 download a digital copy straight to your computer 00:27:06.29\00:27:08.66 or mobile device. 00:27:08.69\00:27:10.13 To get your digital copy of today's free gift, simply text 00:27:10.16\00:27:13.16 the keyword on your screen to 40544 or visit the web address 00:27:13.19\00:27:17.83 shown on your screen. 00:27:17.87\00:27:19.70 And be sure to select the digital download option 00:27:19.73\00:27:22.04 on the request page. 00:27:22.07\00:27:23.57 It's now easier than ever for you to study God's Word with 00:27:23.61\00:27:26.41 Amazing Facts wherever and whenever you want, 00:27:26.44\00:27:29.81 and most important, to share it with others. 00:27:29.84\00:27:32.91 female announcer: Did you know Amazing Facts has a free 00:27:34.55\00:27:36.22 Bible school that you can do from the comfort of your 00:27:36.25\00:27:38.29 own home?
