male announcer: This presentation is brought to you 00:00:02.23\00:00:03.53 by the friends of the Amazing Facts Ministry. 00:00:03.67\00:00:06.37 Doug Batchelor: Enoch walked with God during a time when 00:00:14.18\00:00:16.44 there was great wickedness in the world. 00:00:16.48\00:00:18.41 So you can't say, Lord, I'd walk with You, but in this culture, 00:00:18.45\00:00:21.02 we're in today God needs men who are going to walk with him no 00:00:21.05\00:00:24.29 matter what's happening around them, that they're going to 00:00:24.32\00:00:27.69 stand for the right, though the heavens fall. 00:00:27.72\00:00:29.66 Doug: I want to welcome everybody. 00:00:33.63\00:00:35.13 Thank you for joining us here at Granite Bay as well as our 00:00:35.16\00:00:37.60 friends, who are watching on television and the internet. 00:00:37.63\00:00:40.84 This is the second part in a four part series. 00:00:40.87\00:00:43.87 We have three parts and one session of questions and answers 00:00:43.91\00:00:47.74 dealing with mighty men of God, and our message today is talking 00:00:47.78\00:00:51.85 about "Walking with Integrity" and that's a rare thing 00:00:51.88\00:00:55.65 these days. 00:00:55.68\00:00:57.35 You know, the Bible tells us about someone who walked to God 00:00:57.39\00:00:59.65 about as close as you can. 00:00:59.69\00:01:01.39 In the book of Genesis, you read about Enoch. 00:01:01.42\00:01:04.96 Genesis 5:21: "Enoch lived sixty-five years, and he begot 00:01:04.99\00:01:09.33 Methuselah, and Enoch walked with God after he begat 00:01:09.36\00:01:13.64 Methuselah," and some people think that after he had a son 00:01:13.67\00:01:17.47 and he understood how much God must love us and that he was 00:01:17.51\00:01:20.04 going to send his Son, that it did something to his 00:01:20.08\00:01:23.38 relationship and he was especially close to God after he 00:01:23.41\00:01:26.51 found out about his love for his children. 00:01:26.55\00:01:29.32 He realized how much God our Father loves His children and he 00:01:29.35\00:01:33.25 walked with God. 00:01:33.29\00:01:35.22 "And he walked with God 365 years," that's one day for 00:01:35.26\00:01:40.00 every--or one year for every day, and it says, "He walked 00:01:40.03\00:01:45.40 with God and he was not for God took him." 00:01:45.43\00:01:50.61 And the Bible says that he had this testimony that he 00:01:50.64\00:01:52.77 pleased God. 00:01:52.81\00:01:54.14 He was the first one who was, what you would say, translated. 00:01:54.18\00:01:57.41 God just caught him up. 00:01:57.45\00:01:59.28 Now, through his example of walking with God, we can 00:01:59.31\00:02:03.05 learn something. 00:02:03.08\00:02:04.52 First of all, we want to do what Enoch did because Enoch is where 00:02:04.55\00:02:08.92 we want to be. 00:02:08.96\00:02:10.36 Where is Enoch now? 00:02:10.39\00:02:12.46 You know, if I ask you who's the oldest man that ever lived, what 00:02:12.49\00:02:14.36 would you say? 00:02:14.40\00:02:16.33 Methuselah, that's a trick question. 00:02:16.36\00:02:17.87 Methuselah the oldest man who ever died; the oldest man who 00:02:17.90\00:02:21.64 ever lived is Methuselah's father, Enoch, because he's 00:02:21.67\00:02:24.14 still alive. 00:02:24.17\00:02:25.51 He never died, right? 00:02:25.54\00:02:27.84 He's where we want to be. 00:02:27.88\00:02:29.61 How did he get there? 00:02:29.64\00:02:30.95 He walked with God. 00:02:30.98\00:02:32.35 We need to have that kind of walk, and walking with God 00:02:32.38\00:02:35.02 doesn't just mean that you occasionally think about God and 00:02:35.05\00:02:38.59 you come to church once a week. 00:02:38.62\00:02:39.92 It means having a life, a walk of integrity, a walk of honesty. 00:02:39.95\00:02:46.33 It's interesting that he walked with God during a time when 00:02:46.36\00:02:49.80 there was great wickedness in the world, just read what it 00:02:49.83\00:02:52.20 says about his grandson Noah. 00:02:52.23\00:02:55.94 During the time of Enoch, it says that the thoughts of men's 00:02:55.97\00:02:58.57 hearts were only evil continually and violence was in 00:02:58.61\00:03:01.98 the land. 00:03:02.01\00:03:03.31 We live with a lot of violence in the world today, a lot of 00:03:03.35\00:03:05.98 bloodshed, a lot of dishonesty, a lot of corruption, but he was 00:03:06.01\00:03:11.49 still able to walk with God. 00:03:11.52\00:03:12.82 So you can't say, Lord, 00:03:12.85\00:03:14.19 I'd walk with you, but in this culture we're in today--God 00:03:14.22\00:03:16.66 needs men who are going to walk with him no matter what's 00:03:16.69\00:03:18.93 happening around them. 00:03:18.96\00:03:20.93 That they're going to stand for the right, though the 00:03:20.96\00:03:22.63 heavens fall. 00:03:22.66\00:03:23.97 The Bible says Noah was a just man. 00:03:24.00\00:03:25.77 Now we're in Genesis 6, verse 9. 00:03:25.80\00:03:27.67 Next chapter: "Perfect in his generations, Noah walked 00:03:27.70\00:03:31.27 with God." 00:03:31.31\00:03:32.91 If Noah could walk with his God just before the end of the 00:03:32.94\00:03:35.78 world, you know Noah lived through the end of the world 00:03:35.81\00:03:37.45 back then. 00:03:37.48\00:03:38.88 We can walk with God before the end of the world now. 00:03:38.91\00:03:42.35 He saw from the example of his grandfather, Methuselah, and his 00:03:42.38\00:03:47.79 father, because Methuselah died just before the flood, and his 00:03:47.82\00:03:50.83 great-grandfather, Enoch, what it meant to walk with God, and 00:03:50.86\00:03:55.36 he followed that pattern. 00:03:55.40\00:03:57.27 Now, I'm glad I can tell you that there were good examples 00:03:57.30\00:04:00.27 like Enoch, and then Noah modeled his great-grandfather's 00:04:00.30\00:04:03.97 example, and he walked with God, but, you know, even some of the 00:04:04.01\00:04:06.81 men of God failed in areas of integrity. 00:04:06.84\00:04:11.01 When you think about the great patriarchs, 00:04:11.05\00:04:12.58 what are their names? 00:04:12.61\00:04:14.75 Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. 00:04:14.78\00:04:18.32 Abraham, a good man, loved the Lord, kept the Commandments, but 00:04:18.35\00:04:21.39 not always. 00:04:21.42\00:04:25.03 You can read in Genesis 20 verse 2: "Now Abraham said of Sarah 00:04:25.06\00:04:29.83 his wife, 'She's my sister.'" 00:04:29.86\00:04:33.37 You know the story? 00:04:33.40\00:04:35.24 He went down to Egypt during the time of a famine and Sarah was 00:04:35.27\00:04:38.91 very good looking and she may have, you know, had a unique 00:04:38.94\00:04:43.88 sparkle because Abraham had come from another country, and there 00:04:43.91\00:04:47.92 were the women in Egypt were a little more swarthy in their 00:04:47.95\00:04:50.99 appearance, Sarah stood out. 00:04:51.02\00:04:53.76 It's like I remember when Karen and I and the boys went to 00:04:53.79\00:04:57.43 Tiananmen Square and I figured we'd see a lot of European 00:04:57.46\00:05:01.33 tourists there in this big famous Chinese square. 00:05:01.36\00:05:05.90 I was amazed at how many Chinese tourists went there, and Nathan 00:05:05.93\00:05:11.07 and Steven were walking around and everywhere they walk they 00:05:11.11\00:05:14.41 were turning heads because when they were younger they both had 00:05:14.44\00:05:17.68 blue hair and blond eyes and they just stood out. 00:05:17.71\00:05:23.22 What did I say, blue hair? 00:05:23.25\00:05:24.92 Well, that's now, that was before. 00:05:24.95\00:05:26.25 [laughing] 00:05:26.29\00:05:29.39 I really didn't mean to say that, but everybody was turning, 00:05:29.42\00:05:33.40 it was such a spectacle. 00:05:33.43\00:05:35.40 And Sarah was very attractive, even though she was older at 00:05:35.43\00:05:38.63 this point, she still stood out, and Abraham thought, Boy, you're 00:05:38.67\00:05:42.74 not going to go down to Egypt, got to go, we're out of food. 00:05:42.77\00:05:44.81 They got food there, but, you know, I don't know about the 00:05:44.84\00:05:47.94 ethics of the people down there, and they're going to look at 00:05:47.98\00:05:50.21 Sarah and, you know, it was pretty barbaric. 00:05:50.25\00:05:52.11 It was the wild wild West back then. 00:05:52.15\00:05:53.78 They didn't have police force and laws, and it's sort of like 00:05:53.82\00:05:56.75 every man had his own security team, and he thought, They're 00:05:56.79\00:06:00.62 going to kill me and take my wife. 00:06:00.66\00:06:01.96 So just to play it safe, she is actually my half sister. 00:06:01.99\00:06:05.53 I'll leave out the wife part and I'll just say, yeah, oh, she's 00:06:05.56\00:06:08.93 my sister. 00:06:08.96\00:06:10.67 Well, you know, that didn't go very well because pharaoh 00:06:10.70\00:06:12.43 thought oh, good, she's your sister, I'll take her over to 00:06:12.47\00:06:14.37 my harem. 00:06:14.40\00:06:18.34 And then word about that ended up getting to his son, Isaac. 00:06:18.37\00:06:24.31 There's another famine and Isaac has to go dwell in the land of 00:06:24.35\00:06:27.58 the Philistines because that's the only place there's bread, 00:06:27.62\00:06:29.85 and he's married to his cousin now, Rebecca, who is also 00:06:29.88\00:06:33.79 beautiful, from the same country as Sarah. 00:06:33.82\00:06:38.66 And the men of the place asked about his wife, Isaac said, Oh, 00:06:38.69\00:06:42.50 she's my sister. 00:06:42.53\00:06:45.97 And again later he was discovered and he was rebuked by 00:06:46.00\00:06:48.64 the pagans. 00:06:48.67\00:06:49.97 So where do you think Isaac learned that? 00:06:50.01\00:06:52.04 And then it doesn't stop there. 00:06:52.07\00:06:53.51 You know, the Bible says, "Unto the third and fourth generation, 00:06:53.54\00:06:56.95 our example of integrity or our lack of integrity will be 00:06:56.98\00:07:01.18 reproduced in the lives of those around us." 00:07:01.22\00:07:05.35 You get that? 00:07:05.39\00:07:06.69 Our lives of integrity, or our lack of integrity, and I expect 00:07:06.72\00:07:10.06 to see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in heaven. 00:07:10.09\00:07:12.59 Well, we gotta get to Jacob. 00:07:12.63\00:07:16.13 Isaac wants to bless his boys. 00:07:16.16\00:07:17.63 He says, Call Esau. 00:07:17.67\00:07:19.73 Genesis 27: 12: Rachel, says, No, Jacob you go in and you 00:07:19.77\00:07:25.71 pretend to be Esau, and you put on Esau his clothes and say that 00:07:25.74\00:07:30.28 you're Esau and you'll get the blessing of Esau. 00:07:30.31\00:07:32.68 And you notice how it's progressing? 00:07:32.71\00:07:34.25 First he says, Well, she's actually my sister. 00:07:34.28\00:07:36.25 Now she's my cousin. 00:07:36.28\00:07:37.59 Well, Dad did it. 00:07:37.62\00:07:38.92 I'll say she's my sister, and now I'm going to say my brother. 00:07:38.95\00:07:42.66 And it just a little by little, that's a pretty far stretch from 00:07:42.69\00:07:46.53 calling your half-sister your wife to calling your brother, 00:07:46.56\00:07:49.60 saying you're your brother. 00:07:49.63\00:07:51.77 But that's kinda how compromise happens little by little 00:07:51.80\00:07:54.50 in degrees. 00:07:54.54\00:07:57.71 You ever heard the expression white lies or half truths? 00:07:57.74\00:08:02.71 A half truth is a whole lie, and Christians ought to be 00:08:02.74\00:08:07.32 consistently honest all the time. 00:08:07.35\00:08:10.55 You've heard that expression. 00:08:10.59\00:08:11.89 It's not an expression. 00:08:11.92\00:08:13.25 It's actually from Numbers 32, verse 23: "Your sin will find 00:08:13.29\00:08:16.59 you out," you never really get away with any lies. 00:08:16.62\00:08:22.03 Your sin will find you, and it catches up with you. 00:08:22.06\00:08:25.10 Joe the butcher at the end of his day, final customer came in 00:08:25.13\00:08:29.17 his butcher shop, this was years ago, and she said I'd like a 00:08:29.20\00:08:33.64 chicken, whole chicken. 00:08:33.68\00:08:36.28 So he reached into the freezer, he had one chicken left, he 00:08:36.31\00:08:39.28 pulled it out he put it on the scale and said that'll be a 00:08:39.31\00:08:41.95 $1.79, and she looked at it and scrutinized it and she said you 00:08:41.98\00:08:45.82 know, it's not quite big enough. 00:08:45.85\00:08:48.12 I think I need a little bigger chicken. 00:08:48.16\00:08:50.09 She said, Can you get me a different one? 00:08:50.13\00:08:53.46 He took that chicken he put it back in the freezer, fumbled 00:08:53.50\00:08:55.90 around, and pulled it back out again. 00:08:55.93\00:08:57.90 This time he just put his hand on the scale a little bit and 00:08:57.93\00:09:00.37 said, Okay that one's going to be $2. 00:09:00.40\00:09:03.04 She thought for a minute. 00:09:03.07\00:09:04.41 She said, you know, I guess I better get them both. 00:09:04.44\00:09:09.61 He got busted. 00:09:09.64\00:09:13.78 Christians should be perfectly honest. 00:09:13.82\00:09:16.79 Moses said Deuteronomy 25:15, "You will have a perfect and 00:09:16.82\00:09:21.09 a just weight, a perfect and a just measure, that your days 00:09:21.12\00:09:25.86 may be lengthened in the land that your Lord, the Lord your 00:09:25.89\00:09:29.16 God is giving you." 00:09:29.20\00:09:30.53 One of the criteria for their staying in the land and not 00:09:30.57\00:09:33.60 being carried off captive was honesty. 00:09:33.64\00:09:37.31 Faithfulness in their business, faithfulness in their dealings 00:09:37.34\00:09:40.28 with each other. 00:09:40.31\00:09:41.74 And he said, I'll bless you, because the Lord is looking for 00:09:41.78\00:09:44.71 truth, the Bible says, in the inward parts. 00:09:44.75\00:09:47.65 He wants us to walk a walk of truth. 00:09:47.68\00:09:50.39 He wants integrity in the family. 00:09:50.42\00:09:53.36 One of the ways you become a mighty man of God is by keeping 00:09:53.39\00:09:57.63 your vows, and that would include your marriage vows. 00:09:57.66\00:10:02.63 Ephesians 5:22: "Husbands, love your wives." 00:10:02.66\00:10:06.07 How? 00:10:06.10\00:10:07.44 "As Christ loved the church." 00:10:07.47\00:10:09.24 He doesn't say if your wife cooks well, love her. 00:10:09.27\00:10:15.28 You're supposed to love her no matter what. 00:10:15.31\00:10:19.08 It doesn't matter whether she's being easy to get along 00:10:19.11\00:10:21.58 with or difficult--he doesn't give that out here. 00:10:21.62\00:10:24.79 It's a command: Love your wife. 00:10:24.82\00:10:26.35 Is she your wife? 00:10:26.39\00:10:27.69 Love her. 00:10:27.72\00:10:29.06 Oh, but sometimes she's so unlovable. 00:10:29.09\00:10:31.36 How? 00:10:31.39\00:10:32.73 Love her like Christ loves the Church. 00:10:32.76\00:10:34.03 Does God love us when we're unlovable? 00:10:34.10\00:10:37.30 Did God wait for you to be good before he loved you or does he 00:10:37.33\00:10:40.17 love you even when you're bad? 00:10:40.20\00:10:43.10 You know that song "Jesus Loves Me," there's that one verse, 00:10:43.14\00:10:46.51 "Jesus loves me when I'm good, when I do the things I should. 00:10:46.54\00:10:50.08 Jesus loves me when I'm bad even though it makes him sad." 00:10:50.11\00:10:55.35 And our love for our wives should be like God's love for 00:10:55.38\00:10:59.72 us, which is a consistent, unconditional love, A-- 00:10:59.75\00:11:04.63 congregation: Men. 00:11:04.66\00:11:06.26 Doug: If I were to ask all the men here how many 00:11:06.29\00:11:07.86 love your wives, raise your hand. 00:11:07.86\00:11:09.70 Don't do it. 00:11:09.73\00:11:11.70 But I bet all the hands would go up, but then if I were to ask 00:11:11.73\00:11:14.77 how many of the wives feel loved? 00:11:14.80\00:11:18.94 If there was an honest response, you might find it's different. 00:11:18.97\00:11:23.95 Now, men often think, Well, I provide a good house. 00:11:23.98\00:11:30.72 I make sure that there's food in the refrigerator. 00:11:30.75\00:11:33.49 I protect you. 00:11:33.52\00:11:34.86 I do the yard work, of course, I love you. 00:11:34.89\00:11:36.52 I mean, for us that's the evidence of love. 00:11:36.56\00:11:39.43 That's not always the way the wives view it, though. 00:11:39.46\00:11:43.50 It says, "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the 00:11:43.53\00:11:45.73 church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify her and 00:11:45.77\00:11:50.27 cleanse her with the washing of the water by the word, that He 00:11:50.31\00:11:53.58 might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot 00:11:53.61\00:11:56.91 or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy 00:11:56.95\00:11:59.61 without blemish. 00:11:59.65\00:12:01.02 So husbands ought to love their wives." 00:12:01.05\00:12:03.59 It's talking there about Christ loves the church so that he can 00:12:03.62\00:12:07.12 have a sanctifying influence on the church. 00:12:07.16\00:12:09.92 Husbands ought to love their wives so that we have a 00:12:09.96\00:12:13.40 sanctifying influence on them. 00:12:13.43\00:12:17.03 Colossians 3:19: "Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter 00:12:17.07\00:12:21.14 towards them." 00:12:21.17\00:12:23.07 Now, sometimes there's bitterness, harsh words are 00:12:23.10\00:12:25.77 spoken or needs aren't met and it turns into anger and people 00:12:25.81\00:12:29.21 can live in the same house for years and act like strangers. 00:12:29.24\00:12:33.75 God says you need to love, show affection, cherish. 00:12:33.78\00:12:36.99 Doug: Here at Amazing Facts International 00:12:38.49\00:12:40.92 we strive to reach the world with the amazing truths 00:12:40.96\00:12:44.06 of the Bible and proclaim the love of Jesus. 00:12:44.09\00:12:47.36 We print thousands of easy-to-read materials 00:12:47.40\00:12:50.40 such as books, tracks, and fully illustrated magazines 00:12:50.43\00:12:54.64 that are all designed to change lives by clearing up 00:12:54.67\00:12:57.37 the many misunderstandings people have regarding 00:12:57.41\00:12:59.67 the Word of God. 00:12:59.71\00:13:01.24 Our warehouse is filled with resources ready to mail out, 00:13:01.28\00:13:04.91 and we're eager to send them to you. 00:13:04.95\00:13:07.18 Make the most of your Bible study today 00:13:07.22\00:13:09.55 by requesting our free offer. 00:13:09.58\00:13:11.62 It'll surely enhance your knowledge of the Bible 00:13:11.65\00:13:14.26 while imparting a blessing to you and those in your life. 00:13:14.29\00:13:17.59 Simply follow the instructions on the screen, 00:13:17.63\00:13:20.26 and we'll send it to you free of charge. 00:13:20.30\00:13:22.66 And once you read it, be sure to share it with a friend. 00:13:22.70\00:13:25.93 Doug Batchelor: And then not only being mighty men of God 00:13:26.90\00:13:29.77 means examples in the family with the wife or the spouse, but 00:13:29.80\00:13:33.84 with the children. 00:13:33.88\00:13:35.41 "And you, fathers, do not provoke your children of wrath, 00:13:35.44\00:13:39.45 but bring them up in the training and the admonition." 00:13:39.48\00:13:42.32 Don't just shout at them and tell them what they're doin' 00:13:42.35\00:13:43.99 wrong, but be an example and admonish them in the Lord. 00:13:44.02\00:13:49.06 Do you have worship in your families? 00:13:49.09\00:13:51.56 There are a lot of husbands and wives that haven't held hands 00:13:51.59\00:13:53.70 and prayed together. 00:13:53.73\00:13:55.56 It's something that ought to happen every day in a Christian 00:13:55.60\00:13:57.57 home where families have worship. 00:13:57.60\00:13:59.70 You've heard the expression, families that pray together stay 00:13:59.73\00:14:02.84 together, and when you pray, closer you come to one object, 00:14:02.87\00:14:05.64 the closer you come to each other. 00:14:05.67\00:14:07.01 And if you're both coming closer to God in your devotions, you'll 00:14:07.04\00:14:09.68 be coming closer to each other and be able to talk about 00:14:09.71\00:14:13.11 spiritual things and things that you learn. 00:14:13.15\00:14:17.12 And we should be honest to God, not only in our families, but if 00:14:17.15\00:14:19.49 you're a Christian, you probably have taken some baptismal vows. 00:14:19.52\00:14:23.79 You said by God's grace, I am going to stand for Christ. 00:14:23.83\00:14:26.59 I'm going to be part of this people. 00:14:26.63\00:14:27.96 I am going to support the work of God. 00:14:27.96\00:14:29.66 I am going to share the good news about Jesus. 00:14:29.70\00:14:32.23 And have you sworn to your own hurt and changed? 00:14:32.27\00:14:38.41 Are you willing to keep your word and stand for the promises 00:14:38.44\00:14:41.88 that you've made? 00:14:41.91\00:14:43.41 Now, being a Christian means a consistent walk. 00:14:43.45\00:14:48.15 Colossians 2:6: "As you there have received Christ Jesus the 00:14:48.18\00:14:52.65 Lord, so walk in Him." 00:14:52.69\00:14:55.72 You know, some people lose their first love, we need to 00:14:55.76\00:14:58.46 consistently continue to walk in the Lord. 00:14:58.49\00:15:01.40 Ephesians 5:8 and 9: "For you were once darkness, but now 00:15:01.43\00:15:05.10 you're children of the Lord. 00:15:05.13\00:15:06.57 Walk as children of light." 00:15:06.60\00:15:09.54 Our neighbors and the people around us, if we are men of 00:15:09.57\00:15:12.01 integrity, ought to see that we're different in the way that 00:15:12.04\00:15:14.91 we walk. 00:15:14.94\00:15:16.28 I heard about a missionary in India that was teaching a 00:15:16.31\00:15:18.91 roomful of people, and he saw one lady about halfway through 00:15:18.95\00:15:23.55 his presentation, got up and went out, and he looked through 00:15:23.59\00:15:27.69 the window and he thought he saw her talking to his driver that 00:15:27.72\00:15:31.93 was taking him from one appointment to another, and then 00:15:31.96\00:15:35.70 a few minutes later, she came back in and she sat down and she 00:15:35.73\00:15:38.00 looked very interested and he was curious. 00:15:38.03\00:15:40.24 And so after the study, he went after he says, You know, I 00:15:40.27\00:15:43.17 noticed you got up and you went out partway through the program 00:15:43.20\00:15:45.84 and I was wondering if it was something I said? 00:15:45.87\00:15:47.48 And she said, Well, yes. 00:15:47.51\00:15:49.54 She said, What you said really touched my heart. 00:15:49.58\00:15:52.05 What you told me about Jesus was very interesting, and I thought 00:15:52.08\00:15:56.15 I wonder if this man really lives like this. 00:15:56.18\00:15:59.25 So I went out and I asked your driver, Does this is man really 00:15:59.29\00:16:02.46 live the things that he talks about? 00:16:02.49\00:16:04.76 The driver said, Yes. 00:16:04.79\00:16:06.13 So I came back in to hear the rest of what you had to say. 00:16:06.16\00:16:09.70 So what would your driver say? 00:16:09.73\00:16:12.43 Are we the same? 00:16:12.47\00:16:13.80 You know what integrity is? 00:16:13.84\00:16:15.07 Integrity means you're the same person when no one's watching as 00:16:15.10\00:16:18.41 when everybody's watching. 00:16:18.44\00:16:20.54 That's what integrity is. 00:16:20.58\00:16:22.18 God is calling for mighty men who are going to be consistently 00:16:22.21\00:16:27.05 followers of Jesus, whether the crowd is watching or not. 00:16:27.08\00:16:31.52 You know, I heard that somebody did a study on the street, and 00:16:31.55\00:16:38.76 they pretended they were blind, and they would go up to 00:16:38.79\00:16:42.06 strangers, and cameras were rolling--you can actually see 00:16:42.10\00:16:44.63 this on Youtube--and they go up to strangers and they pretend 00:16:44.67\00:16:47.67 they're blind, Sister, I hear you, can you please help me? 00:16:47.70\00:16:50.47 I've got to get change because there was you've got to pay for 00:16:50.51\00:16:53.54 a meter, whatever it is, can you take this $5 bill and give me 5 00:16:53.58\00:16:57.91 ones and some change? 00:16:57.95\00:16:59.68 And he'd ask these strangers on the street, but he would hand 00:16:59.71\00:17:02.48 them, a 50. 00:17:02.52\00:17:06.12 And fortunately, 70% of the people said, Oh, brother, that's 00:17:06.15\00:17:10.76 not a 5, that's a 50, be careful. 00:17:10.79\00:17:14.46 But it was shocking, and you could see it, some people said 00:17:14.50\00:17:18.60 Oh yeah, $5? 00:17:18.63\00:17:20.24 Sure. 00:17:20.27\00:17:21.57 Let me have your 5, here's 5 and they walked away. 00:17:21.60\00:17:26.01 They were pretty surprised and because then the guy would take 00:17:26.04\00:17:28.08 his glasses off and run up to him and say, Hey, give me back 00:17:28.11\00:17:30.05 my money. 00:17:30.08\00:17:32.28 They got busted. 00:17:32.31\00:17:34.15 But it's kind of scary to think that when they thought nobody 00:17:34.18\00:17:36.58 was watching, they could take advantage of a blind person. 00:17:36.62\00:17:41.26 They'd do it. 00:17:41.29\00:17:42.59 I can't imagine that I would never do that, God's my witness 00:17:42.62\00:17:44.99 that I couldn't live with myself doing something like that. 00:17:45.03\00:17:48.90 But a person of integrity realizes that God always has the 00:17:48.93\00:17:52.80 camera running and you are the same on camera as you are off 00:17:52.83\00:17:57.34 camera, that's what it means to walk with the Lord. 00:17:57.37\00:18:00.08 It's something that's happening consistently. 00:18:00.11\00:18:03.01 Psalm 1, verse 1 and 2: "Blessed is the man who walks not in the 00:18:03.04\00:18:08.35 counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, 00:18:08.38\00:18:12.25 or sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in 00:18:12.29\00:18:15.72 the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night." 00:18:15.76\00:18:21.03 This is the man who's blessed. 00:18:21.06\00:18:22.36 This is what it means to walk with God. 00:18:22.40\00:18:24.50 We talked about Joshua, where God said last night, If you want 00:18:24.53\00:18:27.64 to be courageous, then walk in the laws that I gave Moses. 00:18:27.67\00:18:31.41 Here the very first psalm, King David, who is certainly a mighty 00:18:31.44\00:18:35.31 man, he said, "The man who does not walk in the counsel of the 00:18:35.34\00:18:39.21 ungodly," and that's tough when you're surrounded by a world 00:18:39.25\00:18:43.39 that doesn't believe in truth, "nor sits in the path of seat-- 00:18:43.42\00:18:46.49 sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is 00:18:46.52\00:18:49.99 in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day 00:18:50.03\00:18:53.56 and night." 00:18:53.60\00:18:54.86 Being a man of God means that you spend time in God's Word day 00:18:54.93\00:18:58.43 and night, amen? 00:18:58.47\00:19:00.74 You need to be spending time in prayer as well. 00:19:00.77\00:19:04.57 Heard about these pigeons, you ever seen how a pigeon walks? 00:19:04.61\00:19:08.54 A pigeon walks where it takes a step and then it moves its head 00:19:08.58\00:19:12.88 and it goes like this... 00:19:12.91\00:19:14.52 And I know they--I grew up in New York City, we had a lot of 00:19:14.55\00:19:16.85 pigeons--used to catch pigeons, we bring them home, my mother 00:19:16.89\00:19:18.59 would get disgusted, make us take them back out again, and 00:19:18.62\00:19:23.09 it's because someone explained to me that a pigeon cannot focus 00:19:23.12\00:19:27.60 its eyes while it's moving. 00:19:27.60\00:19:30.67 It's something about their eyes that they have to stop their 00:19:30.70\00:19:33.87 head and they're taking a step focus, focus, focus, focus. 00:19:33.90\00:19:39.04 You know, ours, God made us where our focus can continue to 00:19:39.07\00:19:41.74 move while we're moving, and a lot of other birds, but not a 00:19:41.78\00:19:44.21 pigeon, but it's sort of kind of how it is for Christian. 00:19:44.25\00:19:47.25 As you're walking, you need to continually adjust your focus 00:19:47.28\00:19:51.49 based on the Word of God because the society that we're living in 00:19:51.52\00:19:55.19 can't see straight. 00:19:55.22\00:19:57.93 I--kinda interesting, this year I was at a dinner back in New 00:19:57.96\00:20:01.46 York City, and I sat down next to a man, and we're visiting, 00:20:01.50\00:20:04.50 I said what's your name? 00:20:04.53\00:20:06.77 And he said George Barna, and he's the one who has the fame of 00:20:06.80\00:20:09.90 Barna study group, delightful Christian man. 00:20:09.94\00:20:13.17 I was very impressed. 00:20:13.21\00:20:14.54 He did a study a number of years ago, actually it was a 1992 00:20:14.58\00:20:17.41 study that confirmed Americans are in danger of becoming a 00:20:17.45\00:20:21.85 nation of relativists. 00:20:21.88\00:20:25.22 The survey asked the Americans is there such a thing as 00:20:25.25\00:20:28.46 absolute truth? 00:20:28.49\00:20:30.73 Amazingly, 66% of Americans-- it's worse today, I'm sure--66% 00:20:30.76\00:20:36.53 of American adults responded they believe there's no such 00:20:36.56\00:20:39.27 thing as an absolute truth. 00:20:39.30\00:20:41.24 You got your truth and I've got my truth, and if you believe 00:20:41.27\00:20:44.41 something, you'll get to heaven and all rivers lead to the ocean 00:20:44.44\00:20:47.48 and you're--you know, we all kind of have our truth, and 00:20:47.51\00:20:51.48 if its truth for you, it's truth. 00:20:51.51\00:20:53.15 And my truth is true for me, and so you got your truth, I've got 00:20:53.18\00:20:56.38 my truth. 00:20:56.42\00:20:57.75 And he says doesn't that kind of permeate our society? 00:20:57.79\00:21:00.66 They can sort of invent your own truth? 00:21:00.69\00:21:04.76 And you know, it sounds good philosophically, 00:21:04.79\00:21:07.40 but in reality that doesn't work. 00:21:07.40\00:21:10.57 Do you want a brain surgeon to start working on you that says 00:21:10.60\00:21:14.90 well, I think today, I really believe that I'm going to find 00:21:14.94\00:21:19.17 your brain somewhere in your ankle, because I believe it. 00:21:19.21\00:21:25.78 Do you want to get on an airplane and have the pilot say, 00:21:25.81\00:21:28.88 You know, I've had an epiphany about the laws of aerodynamic 00:21:28.92\00:21:31.72 design, and today I'm almost sure that this plane will work 00:21:31.75\00:21:34.56 just as well as a submarine, so as we're going across the ocean, 00:21:34.59\00:21:38.93 I believe it, and so it'll work. 00:21:38.96\00:21:41.60 Would you believe that, or would you think he should 00:21:41.63\00:21:43.06 be arrested? 00:21:43.10\00:21:44.73 Because there are certain laws of flight, and people's lives 00:21:44.77\00:21:49.20 depend upon those absolutes being unchanging. 00:21:49.24\00:21:53.31 So what's the key? 00:21:53.34\00:21:56.81 We become like who we walk with. 00:21:56.85\00:22:00.75 As you spend time walking with Jesus and the Bible says he is 00:22:00.78\00:22:03.79 the truth. 00:22:03.82\00:22:05.12 Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." 00:22:05.15\00:22:07.82 1 John 1:7: "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we 00:22:07.86\00:22:12.76 have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus 00:22:12.79\00:22:15.13 Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." 00:22:15.16\00:22:18.63 Acts 4:13: When the disciples were being tried for their 00:22:18.67\00:22:21.70 faith, "When they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and 00:22:21.74\00:22:24.77 they perceived they were uneducated and untrained men, 00:22:24.81\00:22:27.54 they marveled. 00:22:27.58\00:22:28.94 And they realize," they said ah, "they've been with Jesus." 00:22:28.98\00:22:33.52 By the way they were acting, they could see that they'd been 00:22:33.55\00:22:36.05 with Jesus. 00:22:36.08\00:22:37.79 Have you ever met somebody before and you just watch 'em 00:22:37.82\00:22:39.82 for a few minutes and talk to them and you say, I think 00:22:39.85\00:22:42.59 they're a Christian. 00:22:42.62\00:22:44.86 You become like who you walk with. 00:22:44.89\00:22:48.00 That's very important if you're going to be a man of God, who is 00:22:48.03\00:22:51.63 influencing you? 00:22:51.67\00:22:53.70 The Word of God or the views of the world? 00:22:53.74\00:22:57.81 Do you spend more time in the Word or watching 00:22:57.84\00:23:03.78 videos, television? 00:23:03.81\00:23:05.45 What's going to define your values of truth? 00:23:05.48\00:23:09.22 Is going to be Christ? 00:23:09.25\00:23:11.55 We are changed by beholding, and as we keep our eyes fixed on 00:23:11.59\00:23:15.96 Jesus, how do we lay aside the sin and the weight that so 00:23:15.99\00:23:18.93 easily beset us? 00:23:18.96\00:23:20.26 It tells us there in Hebrews chapter 12, Looking unto Jesus, 00:23:20.30\00:23:24.30 the author and finisher of our faith, it's through keeping our 00:23:24.33\00:23:26.70 eyes fixed on him we become like him, so that we are transformed 00:23:26.74\00:23:31.47 from glory to glory into the same image. 00:23:31.51\00:23:34.04 The image of the Lord. 00:23:34.08\00:23:35.38 You know, the whole purpose of the plan of salvation is to 00:23:35.41\00:23:37.78 restore in man the image of God. 00:23:37.81\00:23:40.48 We need to be spending time in God--in Christ's Word, and being 00:23:40.52\00:23:44.35 people of integrity. 00:23:44.39\00:23:46.62 Being somebody who swears to their own hurt and changes not. 00:23:46.65\00:23:51.69 You know how hard it must have been for Hannah when she said, 00:23:51.73\00:23:54.56 Lord, I'm going to make a vow. 00:23:54.56\00:23:56.87 If you give me a son, I promise I'll give him back to you. 00:23:56.90\00:24:02.14 And she had Samuel, it was her only boy, and it wasn't until 00:24:02.17\00:24:05.77 she gave Samuel back to God, God then blessed her with several 00:24:05.81\00:24:10.41 other children. 00:24:10.45\00:24:12.75 You can read in the book of Judges chapter 11 about one of 00:24:12.78\00:24:15.25 the judges he's mentioned in Hebrews, he's going to be in 00:24:15.28\00:24:17.39 heaven, Jephthah. 00:24:17.42\00:24:19.45 He said, Lord, if you give me victory in this battle against 00:24:19.49\00:24:25.16 the Ammonites--it might have been the Moabites, I don't 00:24:25.19\00:24:28.93 remember, it was one of them -ites--you give me victory, 00:24:28.96\00:24:33.23 it'll come to pass that when I come back, whatever comes forth 00:24:33.27\00:24:36.20 from my house to greet me, I will 00:24:36.24\00:24:39.57 offer to you as a burnt offering. 00:24:39.61\00:24:40.84 Well, he thought, you know, he had a small ranch, he thought 00:24:40.88\00:24:43.75 coming home, you know, the family cow, goat, sheep would 00:24:43.78\00:24:46.82 come out, and it was his daughter that came out first. 00:24:46.85\00:24:52.52 And he said, Oh my daughter, you've brought me very low. 00:24:52.55\00:24:54.62 He says, I've opened my mouth to the Lord and I can't go back. 00:24:54.66\00:24:59.69 And it was different from Hannah, and he didn't sacrifice 00:24:59.73\00:25:02.70 her, he gave her to serve at the temple and she could 00:25:02.73\00:25:05.37 never marry. 00:25:05.40\00:25:06.87 And that's why it says the daughters of Israel went up 00:25:06.90\00:25:09.24 yearly to visit her. 00:25:09.27\00:25:11.54 And he would never have a son, it was his only daughter. 00:25:11.57\00:25:14.28 She went on the mountains to bewail her virginity, 00:25:14.31\00:25:16.18 she said, Father, you've opened your mouth to the Lord. 00:25:16.21\00:25:18.68 You need to keep your promise to God. 00:25:18.71\00:25:21.35 Boy, those people are pretty rare today, huh? 00:25:21.38\00:25:26.55 And if we say, Lord, I'm accepting you. 00:25:26.59\00:25:29.16 I want you to be my Lord and Savior and I'm going to live 00:25:29.19\00:25:31.39 for you. 00:25:31.43\00:25:32.76 I'm not going to live for you when it's easy. 00:25:32.79\00:25:34.56 I'm not going to live for you when it's convenient. 00:25:34.60\00:25:36.36 I'm not going to just live for you when I feel like it. 00:25:36.40\00:25:38.93 I'm going to live for you consistently. 00:25:38.97\00:25:41.57 I'm going to walk a walk of integrity. 00:25:41.60\00:25:44.11 Is that what you want to have, friends?
