He said, "Let's go, let's go." 00:02:28.24\00:02:30.28 The pilot taxied, took off, and he said look, 00:02:30.31\00:02:33.75 "I want you to go make some turns over by the fire." 00:02:33.78\00:02:36.99 And so the pilot went by the fire. 00:02:37.02\00:02:38.62 He said, "No, no." 00:02:38.65\00:02:39.95 He said, "You got to get down close." 00:02:39.99\00:02:41.52 And so he said, "All right," and he looked a little nervous. 00:02:41.56\00:02:43.12 The pilot went down and he said, "You got to get closer. 00:02:43.16\00:02:44.73 I want you to skim the treetops. 00:02:44.76\00:02:46.43 Stay away from the fire, but I want to get some great shots." 00:02:46.46\00:02:48.83 And he's clicking away, and the pilot's saying, 00:02:48.86\00:02:50.77 "Why are you taking so many pictures? 00:02:50.80\00:02:53.87 He said, "Well, I'm a photographer. 00:02:53.90\00:02:55.20 That's what I'm supposed to do." 00:02:55.24\00:02:57.04 The pilot said, "Well, you mean 00:02:57.07\00:02:58.47 you're not my flight instructor?" 00:02:58.51\00:03:02.21 He had jumped in the plane of a student pilot waiting 00:03:02.24\00:03:04.68 for his instructor to come out. 00:03:04.71\00:03:08.35 Now, that causes a tribulation. 00:03:08.38\00:03:10.52 And how do you get out of tribulation? 00:03:13.66\00:03:16.09 How do you survive tribulation? 00:03:16.12\00:03:18.39 Now, you know when I talk about the great tribulation, 00:03:18.43\00:03:20.86 I meet Christians, and while different Christians 00:03:20.90\00:03:24.13 from different denominations 00:03:24.17\00:03:25.67 have different views on the tribulation, 00:03:25.70\00:03:28.40 virtually all Bible reading Christians believe there is some 00:03:28.44\00:03:31.57 great tribulation coming that is clearly foretold in the future. 00:03:31.61\00:03:36.64 And people look upon it with different degrees 00:03:36.68\00:03:38.68 of concern or apprehension. 00:03:38.71\00:03:41.75 I'm not sharing this message with you to trouble anybody. 00:03:41.78\00:03:45.89 I don't lose any sleep at all worried about 00:03:45.92\00:03:48.89 the tribulation or the great tribulation. 00:03:48.92\00:03:51.66 But why don't we begin by reading what Jesus said, 00:03:51.69\00:03:54.36 some of the most clear statements on the subject. 00:03:54.36\00:03:57.07 Please turn in your Bibles to Matthew 24. 00:03:57.10\00:04:00.07 Matthew 24, I'll probably start with verse 3. 00:04:00.10\00:04:03.54 Jesus is--the disciples wanted to show him the buildings of the 00:04:03.57\00:04:06.84 temple, and afterward you shocked them with a statement 00:04:06.88\00:04:11.61 in verse 2, "Do you not see all these things, 00:04:11.65\00:04:14.55 'I say to you that not one stone will be upon another 00:04:14.58\00:04:17.75 that will not be thrown down.'" 00:04:17.79\00:04:20.06 That was flabbergasting to the apostles. 00:04:20.09\00:04:22.02 So they came to Jesus privately and listen carefully, verse 3, 00:04:22.06\00:04:25.33 "They ask him really two and half or three questions. 00:04:25.36\00:04:29.20 He comingles all of his answers together. 00:04:29.23\00:04:32.03 They said, "Tell us," and they came to him and privately 00:04:32.07\00:04:34.60 on the Mount of Olives, "when will these things be?" 00:04:34.64\00:04:38.74 Namely the destruction of the temple. 00:04:38.77\00:04:41.44 "What will be the sign of your coming and the end of the world? 00:04:41.48\00:04:45.15 And Jesus answered and said to them, 00:04:45.18\00:04:46.88 'Take heed that no one deceives you. 00:04:46.92\00:04:49.32 For many will come in my name saying I am Christ 00:04:49.35\00:04:52.52 and will deceive many. 00:04:52.55\00:04:54.42 And you will hear of wars and rumors of war. 00:04:54.46\00:04:57.23 See that you are not troubled, for these things 00:04:57.26\00:05:00.36 must come to pass. 00:05:00.40\00:05:01.90 For nation will rise against nation, 00:05:01.93\00:05:03.80 and kingdom against kingdom. 00:05:03.83\00:05:05.80 And there will be famines, and pestilence, 00:05:05.83\00:05:07.80 and earthquakes in various places. 00:05:07.84\00:05:09.84 All these are the beginning of sorrows.'" 00:05:09.87\00:05:13.17 So he said the final sorrows are labor pains. 00:05:13.21\00:05:18.75 Before the great deliverance at the end, it's going to be 00:05:18.78\00:05:22.45 precipitated by some major plagues, earthquakes, wars. 00:05:22.48\00:05:27.92 "Then they will be deliver you up to tribulation," there's that 00:05:27.96\00:05:30.73 word again, "to kill you, and you'll be hated by all nations 00:05:30.76\00:05:35.40 for my name's sake, and many will be offended, and betray one 00:05:35.43\00:05:39.67 another, and many false prophets arise and deceive many. 00:05:39.70\00:05:43.97 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will 00:05:44.01\00:05:48.08 grow cold," and we see that even in our country. 00:05:48.11\00:05:50.95 How many of you remember growing up in a society where you never 00:05:50.98\00:05:53.38 even thought about locking at front door? 00:05:53.42\00:05:56.58 When I was a kid, and we lived in what's now Universal Studios, 00:05:56.62\00:05:59.69 Tujunga, California. 00:05:59.72\00:06:02.62 I mean neighbors had goats and things. 00:06:02.66\00:06:04.39 You'd never believe it if you went down there now. 00:06:04.43\00:06:06.46 Grandparents never locked the door when they left the house. 00:06:06.49\00:06:09.30 So it's hard to imagine. 00:06:09.33\00:06:10.73 Now everybody here got security cameras on your door 00:06:10.77\00:06:12.30 in case anybody rings the bell. 00:06:12.33\00:06:15.47 "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation spoken 00:06:15.50\00:06:18.77 of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place 00:06:18.81\00:06:22.21 (whoever reads, let them understand), 00:06:22.24\00:06:24.71 then let those who be in Judea flee into the mountains. 00:06:24.75\00:06:29.15 Let him who is on the housetop not go down and take anything 00:06:29.18\00:06:31.92 out of his house, and let him who is in the field 00:06:31.95\00:06:34.42 not go back and get his clothes." 00:06:34.46\00:06:36.36 He's talking about a time of urgency. 00:06:36.39\00:06:38.13 Something was going to happen where there was going to be 00:06:38.16\00:06:40.10 very little warning, and they were going 00:06:40.13\00:06:41.66 to have to run for their lives. 00:06:41.70\00:06:45.17 And then he says, "Pray that your flight," fleeing for your 00:06:45.20\00:06:47.77 life, "pray that your flight be not in the winter or on the 00:06:47.80\00:06:50.54 Sabbath," which is I think a good argument to remember. 00:06:50.57\00:06:54.11 He expected us to still 00:06:54.14\00:06:55.44 acknowledge the Sabbath now at the end of time. 00:06:55.48\00:06:58.61 "For they'll be great tribulation," 00:06:58.65\00:07:00.75 there's that phrase. 00:07:00.78\00:07:02.18 Not just tribulation, but what kind of tribulation? 00:07:02.22\00:07:04.79 Great tribulation. 00:07:04.82\00:07:06.45 "Such as has not been since the beginning of the world 00:07:06.49\00:07:10.49 until this time, no, nor ever shall be." 00:07:10.53\00:07:15.86 Now, that takes your breath away right there. 00:07:15.90\00:07:18.37 That could frighten a person. 00:07:18.40\00:07:21.27 I mean there's been so many just horrific things, and Jesus says, 00:07:21.30\00:07:24.24 "Oh, that's nothing." You can't imagine it." 00:07:24.27\00:07:27.08 Most of the time, you worry about things that 00:07:27.11\00:07:29.88 when they actually happen, they're not so bad. 00:07:29.91\00:07:33.01 And most of the pains and the worrying in anticipation, 00:07:33.05\00:07:35.92 when it finally happens, you think it wasn't anything. 00:07:35.95\00:07:39.49 But Jesus said, "You probably cannot over imagine 00:07:39.52\00:07:42.29 how bad it's going to be." 00:07:42.32\00:07:44.96 This great--when Jesus calls it a great tribulation, 00:07:44.99\00:07:48.93 such as not has been, think about all that's happened. 00:07:48.96\00:07:51.43 Think of black death in history, bubonic plague 00:07:51.47\00:07:55.27 such as has not been nor ever will be. 00:07:55.30\00:07:59.21 "And unless those days be shortened, 00:07:59.24\00:08:02.54 no flesh would be saved." 00:08:02.58\00:08:04.31 He says, "It's so severe that there'd be no flesh." 00:08:04.35\00:08:05.95 That's not believers or unbelievers. 00:08:05.98\00:08:08.12 He's not even seen human or animal. 00:08:08.15\00:08:10.72 Said no life would survive. 00:08:10.75\00:08:13.82 "But for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened." 00:08:13.86\00:08:16.89 Okay, so I think we all agree that there's going 00:08:16.93\00:08:19.53 to be a great tribulation. 00:08:19.56\00:08:21.50 Can you say amen? 00:08:21.53\00:08:23.03 Want to make sure we got that point nailed down. 00:08:23.06\00:08:25.03 Now what does the word tribulation mean? 00:08:25.07\00:08:27.20 What is a tribulation? 00:08:27.24\00:08:29.57 Tribulation, in Greek anyway, it's about 47 times in the 00:08:29.60\00:08:33.34 Bible, it comes from the word "thlipsis" or "thilibo." 00:08:33.38\00:08:38.51 It means to crush, to press together, to squash, the hem in, 00:08:38.55\00:08:42.92 to compress, to squeeze, to afflict. 00:08:42.95\00:08:46.89 It's originally expressed, it's talking about some sheer 00:08:46.92\00:08:49.36 physical pressure on man. 00:08:49.39\00:08:51.89 Now, thlipsis is a strong term. 00:08:51.93\00:08:53.56 It doesn't refer to a minor inconvenience. 00:08:53.60\00:08:56.00 It's talking about real hardship. 00:08:56.03\00:08:58.53 Now, Jesus said there's going to be a time of real hardship. 00:08:58.57\00:09:01.60 Now, now this is an important point I want you to grasp, 00:09:01.64\00:09:04.07 because I'm going to start unpacking it. 00:09:04.11\00:09:06.11 I want to have you catch this. 00:09:06.14\00:09:08.64 There are really for different kinds of tribulation 00:09:08.68\00:09:11.48 that are encompassed in Matthew 24 in these verses. 00:09:11.51\00:09:15.25 How many? Four. 00:09:15.28\00:09:17.79 And I'll itemize them for you very quickly. 00:09:17.82\00:09:19.65 There's a tribulation for Israel, a tribulation of the 00:09:19.69\00:09:23.76 church, a global final tribulation, and then he's also 00:09:23.79\00:09:28.00 talking about individual or personal tribulation. 00:09:28.03\00:09:32.33 For instance, when Jesus said, "There won't be one stone left 00:09:32.37\00:09:34.50 upon another in the temple, he was talking about the fall 00:09:34.54\00:09:37.67 of Jerusalem, the destruction of the temple, 00:09:37.71\00:09:40.11 and that is the first tribulation. 00:09:40.14\00:09:42.38 Let's talk about that. 00:09:42.41\00:09:43.71 Look in Matthew 23, verse 35. I'm going back one chapter. 00:09:43.75\00:09:48.92 When he's pronouncing the woes on the scribes, 00:09:48.95\00:09:51.69 and the Pharisees, and hypocrites, 00:09:51.72\00:09:53.25 and those who had rejected the prophets. 00:09:53.29\00:09:55.82 He says in very striking denunciation, "That on you may 00:09:55.86\00:10:00.26 come all of the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the 00:10:00.30\00:10:05.13 righteous blood--from the blood of righteous Abel." 00:10:05.17\00:10:08.24 Now, he wasn't even a Jew. 00:10:08.27\00:10:09.80 He's just saying there's going to be pent-up judgment 00:10:09.84\00:10:11.81 that's going to be poured on this generation. 00:10:11.84\00:10:14.68 "From the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, 00:10:14.71\00:10:18.01 the son of Berechiah." 00:10:18.05\00:10:19.45 Now, that Zechariah is not totally Zechariah, 00:10:19.48\00:10:21.78 the son of Berechiah. 00:10:21.82\00:10:23.12 That's another name for Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada. 00:10:23.15\00:10:26.76 "Who you murdered between the temple and the altar. 00:10:26.79\00:10:29.52 Assuredly, I say to you that all these things 00:10:29.56\00:10:31.73 will come on this generation." 00:10:31.76\00:10:33.83 Now, Jesus in Matthew 24 also talks about, "This generation 00:10:33.86\00:10:37.83 will not pass away till all of these things be fulfilled." 00:10:37.87\00:10:40.94 What is a Bible generation? 00:10:40.97\00:10:43.41 It's 40 years. And how do we know that? 00:10:43.44\00:10:45.61 When the generation that came out of Egypt did not have faith, 00:10:45.64\00:10:48.58 he said that generation would die in the wilderness. 00:10:48.61\00:10:50.71 They wandered 40 years. 00:10:50.75\00:10:53.55 And you look, David reigned for a generation. 00:10:53.58\00:10:55.42 He reigned 40 years. 00:10:55.45\00:10:56.99 Solomon reigned 40 years. 00:10:57.02\00:10:59.02 King Saul, first king; 40 years. 00:10:59.05\00:11:01.62 Moses' life is divided in three generations: 40 years in Egypt; 00:11:01.66\00:11:05.73 40 years in the wilderness; 40 years leading people 00:11:05.76\00:11:09.03 from Egypt to the borders of the promised land. 00:11:09.06\00:11:11.80 So 40 was a pretty well-established number 00:11:11.83\00:11:13.87 for a biblical generation. 00:11:13.90\00:11:17.14 Now, Jesus made this prophecy interestingly enough in 30 A.D. 00:11:17.17\00:11:22.28 What would be 40 years later? 00:11:22.31\00:11:24.88 70 A.D. 00:11:24.91\00:11:26.21 How many of you know that in 70 A.D., 00:11:26.25\00:11:27.72 the Romans destroyed the temple? 00:11:27.75\00:11:29.68 So this first tribulation, he describes a terrible ordeal that 00:11:29.72\00:11:35.42 the new Jewish nation went through when they rebelled 00:11:35.46\00:11:37.76 against the Romans. 00:11:37.79\00:11:39.76 And you can read about this and Flavius Josephus' 00:11:39.79\00:11:42.66 "History of the Jews." 00:11:42.70\00:11:44.00 He talks about the Roman wars. It was awful. 00:11:44.03\00:11:47.40 When Titus, our first, that's being in Titus, they besiege 00:11:47.44\00:11:52.14 Jerusalem, and there was terrible starvation in the city, 00:11:52.17\00:11:55.81 and finally the city was burned, and the temple was destroyed. 00:11:55.84\00:11:59.35 And usually you'd take some prisoners of war, but the 00:11:59.38\00:12:01.72 soldiers were so angry that they had been put out for three years 00:12:01.75\00:12:07.22 now by trying to squelch this Jewish rebellion, that they went 00:12:07.26\00:12:12.33 in and indiscriminately men, women and children, they just 00:12:12.36\00:12:15.10 butchered them, and blood ran through the streets. 00:12:15.13\00:12:17.47 And those who survived, the majority were crucified. 00:12:17.50\00:12:21.14 Josephus says, "You couldn't find a tree around Jerusalem. 00:12:21.17\00:12:23.67 It had been cut down and made into crosses." 00:12:23.71\00:12:26.98 And a few that survived that were then taken and sent to work 00:12:27.01\00:12:29.71 in the mines in northern Africa for the Romans, 00:12:29.74\00:12:32.78 and it was just a terrible tribulation. 00:12:32.81\00:12:38.09 We know that they're talking about this time. 00:12:38.12\00:12:40.12 You can read for instance in Luke 23:29, 00:12:40.16\00:12:44.49 speaking of the same time. 00:12:44.53\00:12:45.76 He says, "For indeed the days are coming in which they will 00:12:45.79\00:12:47.66 say, 'Blessed are the barren wombs that never bore, and the 00:12:47.66\00:12:50.40 breasts which never nursed.'" Christ said these words on his 00:12:50.43\00:12:53.03 way to the cross talking to the Jewish women that were weeping. 00:12:53.07\00:12:57.21 He said, "Do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves because 00:12:57.24\00:13:00.91 a terrible judgment is coming to the nation. 00:13:00.94\00:13:04.45 Luke 21, verse 20, "But when you see Jerusalem 00:13:04.48\00:13:07.98 surrounded by armies." 00:13:08.02\00:13:09.52 Now, did you notice a difference? 00:13:09.55\00:13:11.99 The abomination of desolation in Matthew 24, he says, "that when 00:13:12.02\00:13:16.76 you see the up abomination of desolation stand in the holy 00:13:16.79\00:13:19.23 place, let those that be in Judea, flee in the mountains." 00:13:19.26\00:13:21.70 Luke is more specific. 00:13:21.73\00:13:23.20 He says, "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, 00:13:23.23\00:13:26.77 let those that be in Judea flee into the mountains." 00:13:26.80\00:13:30.14 "Let those who are in Judea flee the mountains. 00:13:30.17\00:13:31.94 Let those who are in the midst of her, depart. 00:13:31.97\00:13:34.08 Let those who are in the country not enter her. 00:13:34.11\00:13:36.61 These are the days of vengeance. 00:13:36.64\00:13:38.11 Woe to those who are pregnant, those who are nursing babies 00:13:38.15\00:13:40.45 in those days," for obvious reasons, "for they'll be great 00:13:40.48\00:13:42.92 distress in the land and wrath upon this people." 00:13:42.95\00:13:46.55 So again, now that's talking about the tribulation that came 00:13:46.59\00:13:49.19 on Israel, and in Jerusalem, in particular, during that time. 00:13:49.22\00:13:55.63 "They'll fall by the edge of the sword. 00:13:55.66\00:13:57.57 They will be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem 00:13:57.60\00:14:01.34 will be trampled by the gentiles until the times 00:14:01.37\00:14:04.04 of the gentiles are fulfilled." 00:14:04.07\00:14:06.11 So are we in agreement that at least part of the tribulation 00:14:06.14\00:14:08.84 that is foretold is speaking to the Jewish nation 00:14:08.88\00:14:12.61 and what happened with the fall of Jerusalem? 00:14:12.65\00:14:14.68 It came right on time for 40 years later. 00:14:14.72\00:14:17.39 But it's broader and more comprehensive than that. 00:14:17.42\00:14:20.46 There's also a tribulation that comes historically 00:14:20.49\00:14:23.59 to the church. 00:14:23.63\00:14:25.59 ¤¤¤ 00:14:25.63\00:14:26.93 Doug: Don't go anywhere, friends. 00:14:26.96\00:14:28.23 In just a moment, we're going to return for the rest 00:14:28.26\00:14:30.17 of today's presentation. 00:14:30.20\00:14:32.83 Have you ever noticed that when things are going along smoothly, 00:14:32.87\00:14:36.50 we rarely learn very much? 00:14:36.54\00:14:38.84 It's always in the storms of life that we do the most 00:14:38.87\00:14:41.94 growing, and it's the trials that test the strength and the 00:14:41.98\00:14:45.88 weakness of all convictions, but the wisest thing is when we can 00:14:45.91\00:14:50.19 learn from the trials and experience of others. 00:14:50.22\00:14:53.69 "Amazing Facts" would like to send you a very special gift. 00:14:53.72\00:14:57.19 The gripping, powerful, moving, true story of a family exiled in 00:14:57.23\00:15:01.46 Siberia, a family forced to confront the truths of the Bible 00:15:01.50\00:15:05.53 under some of the worst persecution imaginable. 00:15:05.57\00:15:08.74 What followed next is miraculous. 00:15:08.77\00:15:11.34 This inspiring book called Deathwatch in Siberia, 00:15:11.37\00:15:14.81 will both stir and encourage you to persevere 00:15:14.84\00:15:17.41 in your study of God's Word. 00:15:17.45\00:15:19.41 So don't wait, friend. 00:15:19.45\00:15:20.75 To get your free copy, call the number on the screen, 00:15:20.78\00:15:23.62 and ask for offer number 114 or visit the web address. 00:15:23.65\00:15:28.12 And after you read this incredible resource, make sure 00:15:28.16\00:15:31.09 and share it with a friend. 00:15:31.13\00:15:32.79 Well, let's get back to today's presentation 00:15:32.83\00:15:35.03 and learn some more amazing facts from the Word of God. 00:15:35.06\00:15:37.60 Doug: It's the church age of tribulation. 00:15:39.43\00:15:42.20 You can read for instance in Matthew 24, verse 9, 00:15:42.24\00:15:44.47 "They'll deliver you up to tribulation and kill you. 00:15:44.51\00:15:47.44 You will be hated of all nations." 00:15:47.48\00:15:50.25 So this is something that is universal. 00:15:50.28\00:15:53.31 If you read in Revelation chapter 11, 00:15:53.35\00:15:56.08 it talks about a specific time of tribulation when it talks 00:15:56.12\00:16:00.16 about the two witnesses. 00:16:00.19\00:16:01.92 Represents the Word of God. 00:16:01.96\00:16:04.39 It says, "Leave," and this is Revelation 11, verse 2, 00:16:04.43\00:16:07.40 "But leave the out the court, which is outside the temple, 00:16:07.46\00:16:09.80 and do not measure it, for it has been given to the gentiles. 00:16:09.83\00:16:12.87 And they were tread down the holy city 42 months." 00:16:12.90\00:16:16.07 We just read that from Luke. 00:16:16.10\00:16:17.64 Now, what is it? Forty-two months. 00:16:17.67\00:16:20.34 A Jewish month has 30 days. 42 months is 1260 days. 00:16:20.38\00:16:28.82 "And I'll give power to make two witnesses, 00:16:28.85\00:16:31.45 and they will prophesy in sackcloth, 1260 days ." 00:16:31.49\00:16:37.69 Sackcloth was like a potato bag, and if you prophesied it through 00:16:37.73\00:16:40.96 that, it's muffled. 00:16:40.96\00:16:42.73 If you put a light under a potato bag, some light comes 00:16:42.76\00:16:45.10 through, but it's obscured. 00:16:45.13\00:16:47.17 It's diminished. 00:16:47.20\00:16:49.04 And it's basically saying that the church during this time 00:16:49.07\00:16:51.84 period would still do a work, but it's going to be oppressed, 00:16:51.87\00:16:55.11 it's going to be obscured. 00:16:55.14\00:16:56.51 It's going to be muffled, and stifled and strangled. 00:16:56.54\00:16:59.85 And it says, "These two witnesses." 00:16:59.88\00:17:01.92 The two witnesses some say are Moses and Elijah. 00:17:01.95\00:17:05.19 Symbolically or metaphorically that's true. 00:17:05.22\00:17:09.29 They represent Moses and Elijah, the law and the prophets. 00:17:09.32\00:17:11.39 Another term for the Word of God, which is dual in nature; 00:17:11.43\00:17:15.63 it's new in Old Testament. 00:17:15.66\00:17:17.77 It's a sword with two edges. 00:17:17.80\00:17:19.90 Ten Commandments have two stones, right? 00:17:19.93\00:17:22.50 And so the law and the prophets, commandments of God, 00:17:22.54\00:17:26.01 and the testimony of Jesus. 00:17:26.04\00:17:27.51 The Word of God was going to be oppressed 00:17:27.54\00:17:29.68 and persecuted during a vast age. 00:17:29.71\00:17:32.88 A day in prophecy is how long? A year. 00:17:32.91\00:17:37.25 "I have appointed thee a day for a year," God said to Ezekiel. 00:17:37.29\00:17:40.56 So it says, They'd be at church age period of great persecution 00:17:40.59\00:17:44.26 for 1260 not days, years, where the church flees 00:17:44.29\00:17:50.47 into the wilderness but they still do a work. 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.07 So this was a time of great tribulation. 00:17:53.10\00:17:56.27 So you've got persecution that happens, 00:17:56.30\00:17:58.04 tribulation for Jerusalem and Israel, 00:17:58.07\00:18:00.94 tribulation for spiritual Israel or the church. 00:18:00.98\00:18:04.55 Now, I want to go to the third category of tribulation, 00:18:04.58\00:18:07.82 and that's the one that's ahead of us know. 00:18:07.85\00:18:09.92 So far, we we've looking at great tribulation behind us. 00:18:09.95\00:18:12.92 Now, we're looking at the great tribulation ahead of us. 00:18:12.95\00:18:15.66 Cheer up, it's going to get worst. 00:18:15.69\00:18:18.93 But I'm not worried about it; I'll tell you why in a minute. 00:18:18.96\00:18:22.36 Jesus says in Matthew 24:13, "Because lawlessness will 00:18:22.40\00:18:26.13 abound, the love of many will grow cold, but he that endures 00:18:26.17\00:18:29.54 to the end, there's going to be a great tribulation that must be 00:18:29.57\00:18:33.71 endured to the time of the end. 00:18:33.74\00:18:35.71 They will be saved." 00:18:35.74\00:18:37.61 What is the great tribulation in the last days? 00:18:37.65\00:18:41.08 In a word or few words, it's the seven last plagues. 00:18:41.12\00:18:46.15 When you read in Revelation chapter 16, verse 1, 00:18:46.19\00:18:48.89 "Then I heard a voice out of the temple 00:18:48.92\00:18:50.53 saying to the seven angels, 00:18:50.56\00:18:52.69 'Go pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth." 00:18:52.73\00:18:57.13 And as you read in Revelation 16 about the seven last plagues 00:18:57.17\00:19:01.50 that are poured out on the earth, I mean it's pretty bad. 00:19:01.54\00:19:05.34 It's talking about men being scorched with great heat, it's 00:19:05.37\00:19:08.18 talking about people being afflicted with noisome sore 00:19:08.21\00:19:11.38 because they worship the beast and his image. 00:19:11.41\00:19:13.65 Talks about the waters being turned to blood, 00:19:13.68\00:19:15.78 both ocean and freshwater supply. 00:19:15.82\00:19:18.79 Now, you look at those pictures of the four horsemen of the 00:19:18.82\00:19:21.12 apocalypse, and everyone pictures this: the plagues 00:19:21.16\00:19:24.56 and the death, and it's going to be a terrible time 00:19:24.59\00:19:28.30 that is going to happen. 00:19:28.33\00:19:30.83 Jesus said, "A time like there never has been." 00:19:30.87\00:19:34.17 Read, for example, in Daniel 12--by the way, 00:19:34.20\00:19:36.91 Christ in Matthew 24 is quoting this verse in Daniel. 00:19:36.94\00:19:39.84 Daniel 12, verse 1 and 2, "And there will be a time of trouble 00:19:39.87\00:19:43.65 such as never been, ever since there was a nation, 00:19:43.68\00:19:46.95 even to the same time." 00:19:46.98\00:19:48.72 Now, is he talking about a great time of trouble 00:19:48.75\00:19:50.62 or tribulation for the Jews? 00:19:50.65\00:19:53.02 For the church? 00:19:53.05\00:19:54.72 Let's keep reading. 00:19:54.76\00:19:56.29 "And at that time, your people shall be delivered. 00:19:56.32\00:19:58.83 Everyone who is found written in the book," that's the book of 00:19:58.86\00:20:00.83 life, "and many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth 00:20:00.86\00:20:04.13 shall awake," what's that? 00:20:04.17\00:20:06.17 The resurrection. 00:20:06.20\00:20:07.67 "Some to everlasting life, and some to shame 00:20:07.70\00:20:09.87 and everlasting contempt." 00:20:09.90\00:20:11.47 So we know the great tribulation just before the second coming 00:20:11.51\00:20:15.58 and the resurrection is still future. 00:20:15.61\00:20:18.18 It happens when probation closes. 00:20:18.21\00:20:20.12 Now, what do I mean by that? 00:20:20.15\00:20:22.18 There will be a period of time just before Jesus comes back, 00:20:22.22\00:20:26.22 when the lost cannot be saved. 00:20:26.25\00:20:28.52 Life will go on, but it's too late for everybody. 00:20:28.56\00:20:31.29 The saved are saved and the lost are lost. 00:20:31.33\00:20:34.20 Revelation 22, Jesus said, "He that is clean let him 00:20:34.20\00:20:37.13 be clean still. 00:20:37.17\00:20:38.47 He that is filthy, let him be filthy still." 00:20:38.50\00:20:41.90 You know, right now, we're just so thankful 00:20:41.94\00:20:43.57 that God is so merciful. 00:20:43.61\00:20:45.34 His mercies endure forever. 00:20:45.37\00:20:47.08 He is so patient, but you can reach a point of no return. 00:20:47.11\00:20:51.65 In Noah's day--and Jesus said, "It will be as it 00:20:51.68\00:20:53.92 was in Noah's day." 00:20:53.95\00:20:55.28 In Noah's day, there was a period of time when all the 00:20:55.32\00:20:57.39 animals got on the ark, Noah and his family got on the ark, 00:20:57.42\00:21:00.99 and the doors open, and he made his final appeal; 00:21:01.02\00:21:03.06 made his altar call. 00:21:03.09\00:21:04.39 Nobody came, and the door was shut. 00:21:04.43\00:21:08.66 Did it start raining right away? No, seven days went by. 00:21:08.70\00:21:13.80 The lost outside the ark were doomed. 00:21:13.84\00:21:17.21 Their probation had closed. 00:21:17.24\00:21:18.81 There was no hope for their being saved. 00:21:18.84\00:21:20.48 The door was shut. 00:21:20.51\00:21:22.34 They still got up for several days, and they enjoyed their 00:21:22.38\00:21:25.68 business, and they ate, and they drank and they married, 00:21:25.71\00:21:27.48 and they build, and they did whatever they normally did. 00:21:27.52\00:21:29.42 And God supplied the sunshine, he supplied the produce 00:21:29.45\00:21:32.19 of the field, and they all laughed at Noah 00:21:32.22\00:21:35.82 and didn't realize it was too late. 00:21:35.86\00:21:37.36 Probation had closed. 00:21:37.39\00:21:39.49 And so, it's talking about then, this great time of trouble 00:21:39.53\00:21:42.30 before the second coming. 00:21:42.33\00:21:44.30 And then I told you that there's of course personal tribulation. 00:21:44.33\00:21:47.47 Let me just touch on that quickly. 00:21:47.50\00:21:49.90 Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to me--to you rather, 00:21:49.94\00:21:53.68 that you might have peace. 00:21:53.71\00:21:56.38 In the world, you'll have tribulation. 00:21:56.41\00:21:58.15 Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." 00:21:58.18\00:22:00.68 So Jesus said, "I'm sharing these things with you, 00:22:00.72\00:22:03.52 that in me, you may have peace. 00:22:03.55\00:22:06.96 In the world, you'll have tribulation 00:22:06.99\00:22:08.89 but be of good cheer." 00:22:08.92\00:22:10.33 He says, "Have peace and be of good cheer. 00:22:10.36\00:22:11.79 I've overcome the world." 00:22:11.83\00:22:13.16 So when you hear about great tribulation, 00:22:13.19\00:22:14.73 if you are in Christ, cheer up. 00:22:14.76\00:22:20.17 The worst it gets, it means the sooner he's coming, 00:22:20.20\00:22:23.51 so you don't need to be afraid. 00:22:23.54\00:22:26.61 2 Timothy 3:12, "Yes, all who desire to live godly in Christ 00:22:26.64\00:22:31.01 Jesus will suffer persecution ." 00:22:31.05\00:22:33.01 "Pastor Doug, can you please, is there a loophole here somewhere? 00:22:33.05\00:22:36.62 How can I be a Christian and escape persecution?" 00:22:36.65\00:22:40.42 I'm sorry, friends. 00:22:40.46\00:22:41.76 That's not an option. 00:22:41.79\00:22:43.59 If you're hiding your light under a bush, 00:22:43.63\00:22:45.76 well then, you're not a Christian. 00:22:45.79\00:22:48.56 "Woe unto you when all men speak well of you, 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.77 for so they did of the false prophets." 00:22:51.80\00:22:53.37 If you're wanting an easy life, life is tough. 00:22:53.40\00:22:57.44 But if you're going to make someone mad, make the devil mad. 00:22:57.47\00:23:00.98 Don't make Jesus mad, 'cause the devil's going 00:23:01.01\00:23:02.84 to lose and Jesus is going to win. 00:23:02.88\00:23:04.35 You want to be on the winning team. 00:23:04.38\00:23:05.85 So there's going to be problems in life. 00:23:05.88\00:23:07.28 You may as well make up your mind 00:23:07.32\00:23:09.12 that you're going to be on God's side. 00:23:09.15\00:23:10.62 Amen? 00:23:10.65\00:23:12.05 "We do not wrestle against flesh and blood," Ephesians 6:12, 00:23:12.09\00:23:15.56 "but against principalities, against powers against rulers 00:23:15.59\00:23:18.33 of the darkness of this age, against spiritual 00:23:18.36\00:23:21.13 hosts of wickedness in heavenly places." 00:23:21.16\00:23:25.07 Tribulation, when God allows us to individually go through 00:23:25.10\00:23:28.40 tribulation, it might be for a health problem facing. 00:23:28.44\00:23:31.74 Some go through family issues that are very serious, 00:23:31.77\00:23:34.91 that represents a tribulation. 00:23:34.94\00:23:36.91 You might be in a country that's in a war. 00:23:36.95\00:23:40.12 It might be a terrible financial problem 00:23:40.15\00:23:42.68 that has caused a crisis in your life. 00:23:42.72\00:23:44.12 All kinds of tribulations happen, but you know what? 00:23:44.15\00:23:47.69 Tribulation produces character. 00:23:47.72\00:23:50.63 Romans 5:3-4, "And not only that, 00:23:50.66\00:23:54.20 but we glory in tribulations." 00:23:54.20\00:23:56.97 How many of you look forward to tribulation with glory? 00:23:57.00\00:24:00.30 "We glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation 00:24:00.34\00:24:04.11 produces perseverance; and perseverance, 00:24:04.14\00:24:06.91 character, and character, hope." 00:24:06.94\00:24:09.61 How many of you want hope? 00:24:09.64\00:24:11.41 How many of you want character? 00:24:11.45\00:24:13.28 How many of you want tribulations? 00:24:13.31\00:24:16.95 Well, he said we should rejoice in it 00:24:16.99\00:24:18.32 because that's what it produces. 00:24:18.35\00:24:20.29 If you want the character, and if you want the hope, 00:24:20.32\00:24:24.06 the trials will come. 00:24:24.09\00:24:25.79 That's what develops it. 00:24:25.83\00:24:27.66 Now, I told you that word "thlipsis", tribulations, 00:24:27.73\00:24:31.47 it's got an underlying meaning of something being squeezed 00:24:31.50\00:24:34.60 or placed under pressure beneath a great weight 00:24:34.64\00:24:37.37 such as in squeezing olives. 00:24:37.41\00:24:40.08 And what do you get when you press the olives? 00:24:40.11\00:24:42.61 Olive oil. That's a good thing. 00:24:42.64\00:24:44.48 And in Bible times when they made grapes, 00:24:44.51\00:24:46.68 they were tribulated. 00:24:46.72\00:24:49.08 They were pressed, they were squeezed, and you got the wine. 00:24:49.12\00:24:53.69 These are two biblical symbols, but you get the good things. 00:24:53.72\00:24:56.12 You get the sweetness as a result of the tribulations. 00:24:56.16\00:24:59.39 James 1, verse 2 and 3, "My brethren, 00:24:59.43\00:25:01.96 count it all joy when you fall into various trials knowing 00:25:02.00\00:25:06.27 that the testing of your faith produces patience." 00:25:06.30\00:25:10.94 Count it all joy. 00:25:10.97\00:25:12.27 If you're going through trials, say, 00:25:12.31\00:25:13.61 "All right, Lord. You know what? I'm going through a trial." 00:25:13.64\00:25:16.98 I'd say something like this, I'd say, 00:25:17.01\00:25:18.58 "All right, Lord; thank you." 00:25:18.61\00:25:20.02 I have to choke it out sometimes because you don't feel thankful 00:25:20.05\00:25:21.75 at the time, but you have to trust him and you thank him. 00:25:21.78\00:25:23.65 Bible says, "Thank the Lord in all things. 00:25:23.69\00:25:25.95 "Thank you, and Lord whatever it is you are trying to teach me, 00:25:25.99\00:25:29.46 help me to learn it now so I won't have 00:25:29.49\00:25:31.49 to repeat this class." 00:25:31.53\00:25:34.40 I mean it's like you know, fifth grade 00:25:34.46\00:25:37.43 was the best three years of my life. 00:25:37.47\00:25:41.57 You don't want to repeat that class. 00:25:41.60\00:25:44.64 And so, don't be amazed when you go through trials. 00:25:44.67\00:25:48.68 1 Peter 1:6, "In this you greatly rejoice, though now 00:25:48.71\00:25:52.08 for a little while, if need be you've been grieved by various 00:25:52.11\00:25:55.28 trials, that the genuineness of your faith being much more 00:25:55.32\00:25:59.29 precious than gold or diamonds that perishes, 00:25:59.32\00:26:02.89 though it be tested by fire, may be found to praise, and honor, 00:26:02.92\00:26:07.50 and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ." 00:26:07.50\00:26:10.07 How many of you want to be found pure and ready when Jesus comes? 00:26:10.10\00:26:14.10 It's through the tribulations and the trials that we go 00:26:14.14\00:26:16.97 through, that that's prepared. 00:26:17.01\00:26:18.94 God cleanses his people through fiery trials. 00:26:18.97\00:26:23.35 You can read in Matthew 3, verse 10, 00:26:23.38\00:26:26.21 "Even now the axe is laid at the root of the tree. 00:26:26.25\00:26:29.18 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down 00:26:29.22\00:26:32.19 and thrown into the fire." 00:26:32.22\00:26:33.79 He said, "I baptize you with water," John the Baptist 00:26:33.82\00:26:36.32 speaking, "unto repentance, but he is coming after me is 00:26:36.36\00:26:39.86 mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. 00:26:39.89\00:26:43.16 He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." 00:26:43.20\00:26:46.53 How many of you want the baptism of the Holy Spirit? 00:26:46.57\00:26:49.97 But what if God's baptizing you with the fire of the Spirit 00:26:50.01\00:26:52.67 means fiery trials? 00:26:52.71\00:26:54.24 Do you still want the Holy Spirit? 00:26:54.28\00:26:56.04 Paul says, 1 Corinthians 3:12, "Now if anyone builds this 00:26:56.08\00:26:59.15 foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, 00:26:59.18\00:27:02.18 straw, each one's work will become clear for the day 00:27:02.22\00:27:05.09 will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire. 00:27:05.12\00:27:09.29 The fire will test everyone's work of what sort it is." 00:27:09.32\00:27:13.93 If you want to be prepared for the great tribulation, then we 00:27:13.96\00:27:16.13 need to learn to survive the storms that come into our lives 00:27:16.16\00:27:19.27 now, and embrace the things that transform us. 00:27:19.30\00:27:22.30 Amen? 00:27:22.34\00:27:23.94 announcer: Don't forget to request today's 00:27:27.24\00:27:28.78 life-changing free resource. 00:27:28.81\00:27:30.85 Not only can you receive this free gift in the mail, 00:27:30.88\00:27:32.68 you can download a digital copy straight to your computer 00:27:32.71\00:27:35.22 or mobile device. 00:27:35.25\00:27:36.65 To get your digital copy of today's free gift, simply text 00:27:36.69\00:27:39.92 the keyword on your screen to 40544, or visit the web address 00:27:39.95\00:27:44.59 shown on your screen. 00:27:44.63\00:27:46.36 And be sure to select that digital download option 00:27:46.39\00:27:48.30 on the request page. 00:27:48.33\00:27:50.10 It's now easier than ever for you to study God's Word 00:27:50.13\00:27:53.07 with "Amazing Facts," wherever and whenever you want. 00:27:53.10\00:27:56.44 And most important, to share it with others. 00:27:56.47\00:27:59.11 announcer: And thank you for your continued support, 00:28:01.94\00:28:04.01 as we take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. 00:28:04.05\00:28:07.08 We hope that you'll join us next week as we delve deep 00:28:07.12\00:28:10.02 into the Word of God to explore more amazing facts. 00:28:10.05\00:28:13.69 ¤¤¤ 00:28:13.72\00:28:21.96 ¤¤¤ 00:28:22.00\00:28:24.13 male announcer: This presentation was brought to you 00:28:24.17\00:28:25.63 by the friends of the Amazing Facts ministry. 00:28:25.67\00:28:28.04
