male announcer: This presentation is brought to 00:00:02.33\00:00:04.20 you by the friends of the Amazing Facts Ministry. 00:00:04.23\00:00:06.33 Doug Batchelor: Evidence continues to mount that the 00:00:10.01\00:00:11.91 mystery of life can only be explained by some intelligent, 00:00:11.94\00:00:15.71 miraculous intervention. 00:00:15.74\00:00:17.81 Now more than ever, modern science confirms the extreme 00:00:17.85\00:00:21.68 complexity of life. 00:00:21.72\00:00:23.95 With 21st-century microscopes, for instance, 00:00:23.99\00:00:26.42 scientists understand that even the simplest cell is, 00:00:26.45\00:00:29.99 in effect, a virtual factory containing thousands of 00:00:30.03\00:00:33.93 exquisitely designed pieces of molecular machinery, 00:00:33.96\00:00:37.60 far more complicated than the International Space Station, 00:00:37.63\00:00:40.60 and functionally as complex as a small city at rush hour. 00:00:40.64\00:00:45.14 As we delve deeper into the cellular realm, 00:00:45.17\00:00:47.68 science reveals a virtual Lilliputian world so intricate 00:00:47.71\00:00:51.81 that if he could look through a modern microscope today, 00:00:51.85\00:00:54.52 Darwin himself would likely to admit the theory 00:00:54.55\00:00:57.62 of evolution was absurd. 00:00:57.65\00:00:59.92 In spite of the mounting evidence that only a divine 00:00:59.95\00:01:02.89 miracle can produce life, the modern world still refuses to 00:01:02.92\00:01:06.70 accept the Bible account that God suddenly created 00:01:06.73\00:01:09.70 life by speaking. 00:01:09.73\00:01:12.00 And it's that same power of his Word that is recreating millions 00:01:12.03\00:01:16.04 of hearts around the world today. 00:01:16.07\00:01:18.14 So, join me now as we look at some of the fascinating Bible 00:01:18.17\00:01:21.81 facts about the incredible evidence 00:01:21.84\00:01:24.68 of God's creative design. 00:01:24.71\00:01:27.28 Doug: I remember hearing a story about 00:01:30.49\00:01:32.09 a 2nd-grade teacher of an art class. 00:01:32.12\00:01:34.39 She told her young students, "You're now 00:01:34.42\00:01:36.73 free to draw whatever you want." 00:01:36.76\00:01:39.29 She gave them their paints and they began 00:01:39.33\00:01:41.13 to paint, and she'd go from one to another and give 'em 00:01:41.16\00:01:44.13 a little advice and ask what they were doing. 00:01:44.17\00:01:45.97 And she came over to this one boy and 00:01:46.00\00:01:47.30 he was really goin' at it. 00:01:47.34\00:01:48.67 He was painting furiously. 00:01:48.70\00:01:50.24 You ever seen a kid when he's into it? 00:01:50.27\00:01:51.61 And his tongue... kinda out of his mouth. 00:01:51.64\00:01:54.08 And she was lookin' at what he was doin', 00:01:54.11\00:01:56.54 and couldn't make heads or tails out of it, 00:01:56.58\00:01:58.25 and she said, "What are you painting?" 00:01:58.28\00:02:01.38 He said, "I'm painting God." 00:02:01.42\00:02:03.59 She said, "Well, nobody knows what God looks like." 00:02:03.62\00:02:09.02 He said, "Exactly, now they will." 00:02:09.06\00:02:11.99 And our message today is talking about a very important subject: 00:02:14.93\00:02:19.80 "Can You Prove That God Exists?" 00:02:19.83\00:02:24.04 "Can You Prove--?" 00:02:24.07\00:02:25.41 This is the big question. 00:02:25.44\00:02:26.91 This is one of the most important things 00:02:26.94\00:02:29.41 that people could ever talk about. 00:02:29.44\00:02:32.91 Now, you may have heard of the Large Hadron Collider. 00:02:32.95\00:02:37.42 The biggest and most expensive scientific experiment 00:02:37.45\00:02:40.59 in the world is located 300 feet beneath the countryside 00:02:40.62\00:02:45.36 on the border of Switzerland and France. 00:02:45.39\00:02:48.23 And I've been in that region before. 00:02:48.26\00:02:49.60 It is a 17-mile-long tunnel. 00:02:49.63\00:02:56.04 They used the same boring equipment they used for making 00:02:56.07\00:02:58.81 the Chunnel between France and England to bore this tunnel. 00:02:58.84\00:03:03.24 It's an instrument, but it is composed of a tunnel 17 miles 00:03:03.28\00:03:07.68 in a circle, filled with the most powerful electric-magnet 00:03:07.72\00:03:14.02 accelerators that scientists can muster. 00:03:14.06\00:03:18.09 It's operated by the European Organization 00:03:18.13\00:03:20.90 for Nuclear Research. 00:03:20.93\00:03:23.33 And the aim of it all is they're looking for the mystery of the 00:03:23.37\00:03:29.00 smallest part of matter that holds everything together. 00:03:29.04\00:03:34.44 They call it, named after some of the people who 00:03:34.48\00:03:36.58 theorized it, the Higgs boson. 00:03:36.61\00:03:39.21 It's nickname is--who knows? The God particle. 00:03:39.25\00:03:44.15 They've built this multi-billion-dollar instrument 00:03:44.19\00:03:50.26 to discover the God particle. 00:03:50.29\00:03:53.66 Well, they conducted a number of experiments between 2005 00:03:53.70\00:03:58.60 and 2017, and they say they believe that they've found it. 00:03:58.63\00:04:03.91 With 99% accuracy, they believe they've discovered the smallest 00:04:03.94\00:04:08.64 subatomic particle that allows all other particles 00:04:08.68\00:04:12.31 in the universe to bond together. 00:04:12.35\00:04:15.85 And they say, "If it wasn't for that particle, 00:04:15.88\00:04:17.52 nothing would exist." 00:04:17.55\00:04:19.35 And therefore, they call it, "The God particle." 00:04:19.39\00:04:22.26 Man searching for God in the smallest matter. 00:04:22.29\00:04:28.56 But is there a God? 00:04:28.60\00:04:32.00 Now, we're in church, so, you know, it's sort 00:04:32.03\00:04:34.70 of a rhetorical question here. 00:04:34.74\00:04:37.57 Do we believe there's a God? And if so, why? 00:04:37.61\00:04:40.01 How do you prove it? 00:04:40.04\00:04:41.84 Now, some of you have maybe seen some of the very 00:04:41.88\00:04:44.51 beautifully produced BBC nature programs by David Attenborough. 00:04:44.55\00:04:51.75 And because he often talks about evolution, 00:04:51.79\00:04:53.92 some assumed he was an atheist. 00:04:53.96\00:04:58.29 But when asked if he was an atheist, 00:04:58.33\00:04:59.63 he said, "No, of course not." 00:04:59.66\00:05:03.03 And they said, "Well, you know, all that you 00:05:03.06\00:05:04.37 said about nature and evolution." 00:05:04.40\00:05:09.54 They says, "You're saying you believe in God?" 00:05:09.57\00:05:10.91 He said, "Well, I'm just sayin' it would be foolish for me to 00:05:10.94\00:05:13.14 say because," he said, "the universe is so big," 00:05:13.17\00:05:16.98 and I'm paraphrasing. 00:05:17.01\00:05:18.71 "The universe is so big. 00:05:18.75\00:05:21.88 It's millions of lightyears across. 00:05:21.92\00:05:24.85 What we see is just so small, and we've learned 00:05:24.89\00:05:28.79 so much in recent years. 00:05:28.82\00:05:30.83 For us to say we know there is no God with the little 00:05:30.86\00:05:35.13 perspective of the universe that we have now is like an ant on 00:05:35.16\00:05:39.27 top of a termite hill saying, "I now understand the universe." 00:05:39.30\00:05:44.67 Which I thought was a humble and appropriate response. 00:05:44.71\00:05:48.01 So, could be why the Bible says, "It's the fool who says, 00:05:48.04\00:05:52.08 'There is no God,' with some certainty." 00:05:52.11\00:05:55.15 At least we should say, "Well, we don't know," or, 00:05:55.18\00:05:59.12 "I may not know," or at least admit you don't believe, 00:05:59.15\00:06:01.62 or say, "I don't want to believe." 00:06:01.66\00:06:04.89 The Bible even says, if you want to use the Bible, 00:06:04.93\00:06:07.30 it says, "You can look outside the Bible to believe in God." 00:06:07.30\00:06:10.80 Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God; 00:06:10.83\00:06:13.94 and the firmament shows his handiwork." 00:06:13.97\00:06:16.37 You can look up and see evidence for God. 00:06:16.40\00:06:20.14 Recently, Eric Metaxas, he wrote a bold article 00:06:20.18\00:06:23.78 for "The Wall Street Journal" titled "Science Increasingly 00:06:23.81\00:06:27.35 Makes the Case for God." 00:06:27.38\00:06:29.85 And he comes up with about seven different points where, 00:06:29.88\00:06:33.46 in just the natural world around us, 00:06:33.49\00:06:35.99 in the planet, in the solar system, 00:06:36.02\00:06:39.26 we see evidence that there must be a design, 00:06:39.29\00:06:42.53 or they'd be no life on earth. 00:06:42.56\00:06:44.73 First point, our planet is as exactly the right distance 00:06:44.77\00:06:49.04 from the sun so the temperatures on our planet 00:06:49.07\00:06:51.94 are conductive to life." 00:06:51.97\00:06:53.64 If we were a little close to the sun, we'd burn. 00:06:53.68\00:06:56.54 There's no life on Mercury. It's too hot. 00:06:56.58\00:07:00.45 We would be molten. 00:07:00.48\00:07:01.88 You get too far from the sun, and you're a ball of ice, 00:07:01.92\00:07:05.65 like some of the moons of Jupiter. 00:07:05.69\00:07:08.16 And so we're just precisely the right distance so the oceans 00:07:08.19\00:07:13.53 don't boil away, neither do they all freeze. 00:07:13.56\00:07:19.13 There's a very precise balance. 00:07:19.17\00:07:22.10 We are the perfect distance from our moon, 00:07:22.14\00:07:24.71 and it has the perfect orbit to create moving tides and 00:07:24.74\00:07:28.28 circulation of the air to avoid the stagnation of the seas. 00:07:28.31\00:07:32.55 And many plants and animals reproduce based 00:07:32.58\00:07:34.78 on the lunar orbit. 00:07:34.82\00:07:37.02 If the earth was a little too close to the moon as it swept 00:07:37.05\00:07:40.26 around the planet, we'd have this one continual tidal wave, 00:07:40.29\00:07:44.06 a perpetual tsunami wiping everything out. 00:07:44.09\00:07:47.30 But it's just the right distance where there's a gentle motion 00:07:47.36\00:07:50.63 of the tides that circulates the oceans 00:07:50.67\00:07:53.34 and helps create the climate. 00:07:53.37\00:07:54.90 And just, it's incredible the delicate balance that 00:07:54.94\00:07:57.71 the planets have on earth. 00:07:57.74\00:08:01.94 Metaxas argues: "This incredibly rare, 00:08:01.98\00:08:05.01 outlandishly unexpected process, given all the facts needed to 00:08:05.05\00:08:09.55 occur in just the right confluence of circumstances that 00:08:09.58\00:08:14.66 at least our solar system must have been 00:08:14.69\00:08:16.79 specifically designed and calibrated to give rise to us. 00:08:16.83\00:08:20.56 Otherwise, the odds of us coming to be would be so 00:08:20.60\00:08:24.13 infinitesimally small that it's unreasonable to believe it 00:08:24.17\00:08:28.40 could have happened by chance." 00:08:28.44\00:08:31.21 And not just that there would be a planet with a piece of life, 00:08:31.24\00:08:35.61 but look at the incredible diversity of life that coexists. 00:08:35.64\00:08:39.88 You start doing the math on that. 00:08:39.91\00:08:41.95 I'm getting ahead of myself 'cause math 00:08:41.98\00:08:43.39 is one of the reasons too. 00:08:43.42\00:08:45.89 Dr. Arno Penzias, still alive today, 00:08:45.92\00:08:49.42 Nobel prize winner for the discovery of microwaves, 00:08:49.46\00:08:51.86 he said, "Astronomy leads us to a unique event, 00:08:51.89\00:08:56.90 a universe which was created out of nothing and delicately 00:08:56.93\00:09:00.57 balanced to provide exactly the conditions 00:09:00.60\00:09:03.64 requires to support life. 00:09:03.67\00:09:05.61 In the absence of an absurd, improbable accident, 00:09:05.64\00:09:09.44 the observations of modern science seem to suggest, 00:09:09.48\00:09:12.21 underline, one might say, there is a supernatural plan." 00:09:12.25\00:09:16.35 Science really tells us. 00:09:16.38\00:09:18.32 You know, I always think it's funny if it wasn't so sad when 00:09:18.35\00:09:22.82 you see a different nature program and they speak as 00:09:22.86\00:09:27.20 though Mother Nature has a mind. 00:09:27.23\00:09:29.90 "Look at how nature has designed this to happen 00:09:29.93\00:09:33.70 and that to happen." 00:09:33.74\00:09:35.04 And I'm going, "Does nature think? 00:09:35.07\00:09:36.47 You're saying that there is something out there 00:09:36.50\00:09:38.47 that's thinking and planning." 00:09:38.51\00:09:40.81 Clearly, there's a plan involved. 00:09:40.84\00:09:42.84 But they say, "Don't call it 'God.' 00:09:42.88\00:09:44.51 Whatever you do, don't call it 'God.'" 00:09:44.55\00:09:47.05 But obviously, I mean, just think about how 00:09:47.08\00:09:50.69 evolution could explain the intricacies of our bodies and 00:09:50.72\00:09:56.93 how a piece of skin would eventually start, through 00:09:56.96\00:10:00.06 exposure to light, turning into an eyeball. 00:10:00.10\00:10:03.43 Even Darwin said the eyeball mystifies him. 00:10:03.47\00:10:05.30 He can't find any scenario or scheme 00:10:05.33\00:10:07.37 where it would develop itself. 00:10:07.40\00:10:09.44 And that's just one of many. 00:10:09.47\00:10:11.64 Abiogenesis, or informally, the idea of life arising from 00:10:11.67\00:10:15.24 non-living matter such as simple organic compounds, 00:10:15.28\00:10:18.88 has never ben observed. 00:10:18.91\00:10:20.85 There is not a single solitary--no matter what you've 00:10:20.88\00:10:23.12 heard, there is not a single solitary case anywhere in the 00:10:23.15\00:10:27.06 observable world where we have seen life arising from non-life. 00:10:27.09\00:10:34.20 You cannot take a piece of rock and plant it and 00:10:34.20\00:10:39.37 get a sunflower plant. 00:10:39.40\00:10:42.14 Even a seed. 00:10:42.17\00:10:43.47 You can't make a seed, something simple. 00:10:43.51\00:10:46.11 Now, when they first started teaching this idea 00:10:46.14\00:10:48.58 of spontaneous generation, and the idea that life arises 00:10:48.61\00:10:51.08 from non-life, they'd look at a cell and say, 00:10:51.11\00:10:53.11 "Oh, you know, it looks like a little bit of--" 00:10:53.15\00:10:55.32 They were looking under primitive telescopes, 00:10:55.35\00:10:57.79 and all they saw was what you see in an egg. 00:10:57.82\00:10:59.95 They saw there's this wall. There's a protoplasm. 00:11:00.06\00:11:03.16 There's a nucleus. 00:11:03.19\00:11:04.53 And they said, "Maybe that could happen by itself." 00:11:04.56\00:11:06.33 But now, with their super microscopes, 00:11:06.36\00:11:11.77 they look at a cell, and there's a virtual city of factories 00:11:11.80\00:11:17.67 and activity and chemical reactions that are taking place, 00:11:17.71\00:11:22.34 and all these machines that are in there. 00:11:22.38\00:11:24.88 I'm using "machines." 00:11:24.91\00:11:26.21 They're biological, but they're moving around, 00:11:26.25\00:11:27.55 and they swim, and they propel themselves, and they talk. 00:11:27.58\00:11:30.25 They have language where they're talking to the 00:11:30.29\00:11:32.25 other machines and saying, "We need a little more of this. 00:11:32.29\00:11:34.09 No, less of that." 00:11:34.12\00:11:35.46 The cell has got so much going on. 00:11:35.49\00:11:37.33 The idea that lightning might hit a piece of water and develop 00:11:37.36\00:11:40.30 one of those is beyond absurd. 00:11:40.33\00:11:44.33 Biology in plants and animals is a miracle that 00:11:44.37\00:11:52.17 makes it very clear that there was a design involved. 00:11:52.21\00:11:55.31 There had to be a Creator. 00:11:55.34\00:11:56.88 And you are composed of billions of those little things 00:11:56.91\00:11:59.61 that are all talking to each other. 00:11:59.65\00:12:03.35 And do you realize you could have 00:12:03.39\00:12:04.69 one single fertilized cell--? 00:12:04.72\00:12:08.22 The moment after fertilization takes-- 00:12:08.26\00:12:09.92 you got one cell of life. 00:12:09.96\00:12:11.86 Do you realize, in that one microscopic thing, 00:12:11.89\00:12:14.10 it's saying, "This is gonna be Bill. 00:12:14.13\00:12:17.87 He's gonna have red hair. He's gonna have green eyes. 00:12:17.90\00:12:21.27 His teeth are gonna be strong. His heart is gonna be average. 00:12:21.30\00:12:25.44 He's gonna be roughly this tall, and he's gonna 00:12:25.47\00:12:29.31 be quicker than most." 00:12:29.34\00:12:30.68 I mean, just all this interesting information, 00:12:30.71\00:12:33.58 "And Bill's gonna have freckles." 00:12:33.62\00:12:34.92 And it's all contained in the DNA of one single cell. 00:12:34.95\00:12:39.49 All that information's stored. 00:12:39.52\00:12:42.06 "God said, 'Let the earth bring forth living creature according 00:12:42.09\00:12:46.06 to its kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth, 00:12:46.09\00:12:49.26 each according to their kind.'" 00:12:49.30\00:12:50.63 Do we observe evolution in the world? 00:12:50.67\00:12:54.24 Yes, microevolution, Darwin saw microevolution. 00:12:54.27\00:13:00.51 He saw finches on Galapagos that developed their beaks 00:13:00.54\00:13:03.75 differently so they could eat different kinds of food, 00:13:03.78\00:13:05.78 but they were all finches. 00:13:05.81\00:13:07.88 There is not a single example you can see anywhere in the 00:13:07.92\00:13:11.39 world of macroevolution, where a cat turns into an alligator, 00:13:11.42\00:13:17.33 'cause they are different kinds. 00:13:17.36\00:13:18.93 There are little cats and there are lions. 00:13:18.96\00:13:21.36 They're all cats. See what I'm saying? 00:13:21.40\00:13:24.40 Doug: Don't go anywhere, friends. 00:13:25.20\00:13:26.53 We'll be back in just a moment with the 00:13:26.57\00:13:27.90 rest of today's presentation. 00:13:27.94\00:13:29.77 Where do we really come from? 00:13:29.80\00:13:32.37 Are you the byproduct of random chance, or 00:13:32.41\00:13:35.14 are you a unique creation with a special purpose? 00:13:35.18\00:13:38.78 Today, many would have us believe that we're nothing more 00:13:38.81\00:13:41.82 than the offspring of primeval ooze. 00:13:41.85\00:13:44.95 But the Bible and science say something very different. 00:13:44.99\00:13:49.12 But how can you know for sure whether evolution 00:13:49.16\00:13:52.06 or Genesis are true? 00:13:52.09\00:13:54.13 What does the fossil record really say? 00:13:54.20\00:13:56.16 And what about Noah's flood? 00:13:56.20\00:13:58.17 To shed more light on this and answer these questions, 00:13:58.20\00:14:00.44 "Amazing Facts" wants to send you a special free resource, 00:14:00.47\00:14:04.04 and it's called "How Evolution Flunked the Science Test." 00:14:04.07\00:14:07.81 This brief book puts the propaganda of evolution 00:14:07.84\00:14:10.51 on the defensive by exposing the 00:14:10.55\00:14:12.51 shocking loopholes in their theory. 00:14:12.55\00:14:14.68 This powerful tool will help you to harmonize science and faith 00:14:14.72\00:14:18.55 so that you can boldly stand on the Word of God. 00:14:18.59\00:14:21.49 To get your free copy, call the phone number on the screen and 00:14:21.52\00:14:24.56 ask for offer number 169 or visit the web address. 00:14:24.59\00:14:28.90 And after you read this incredible resource, 00:14:28.93\00:14:31.23 be sure and share it with a friend. 00:14:31.27\00:14:33.37 Let's return now to today's presentation and learn some 00:14:33.40\00:14:36.27 more amazing facts from the Word of God. 00:14:36.30\00:14:39.24 Doug: Then you've got mathematics. 00:14:40.68\00:14:43.95 Now, I'll admit, I'm a little bit out of my league now because 00:14:43.98\00:14:46.21 it wasn't my best field going through school. 00:14:46.25\00:14:49.78 I did very well in history, but not so good in math. 00:14:49.82\00:14:53.62 But I do remember Isaac Newton, who was considered among the 00:14:53.66\00:14:56.73 greatest mathematicians 00:14:56.76\00:14:58.06 as well as physicists of the 17th century. 00:14:58.09\00:15:01.00 Other physicists sought his help in finding mathematical 00:15:01.03\00:15:04.03 equations that would help predict the workings 00:15:04.07\00:15:06.17 of the solar system. 00:15:06.20\00:15:08.70 He found these answers in mathematical laws, 00:15:08.74\00:15:12.01 and he did that in the laws of gravity based 00:15:12.04\00:15:14.28 on his discovery of calculus. 00:15:14.31\00:15:17.15 All the space missions depend on Isaac Newton's science of 00:15:17.18\00:15:22.48 calculus to predict how they can orbit these vehicles and use the 00:15:22.52\00:15:27.82 gravitational pull of a certain amount of 00:15:27.86\00:15:29.99 mass to then sling them back. 00:15:30.03\00:15:33.16 Whether it's a satellite going off, 00:15:33.19\00:15:35.43 like the Voyager 1 and 2 that have now left our solar system, 00:15:35.46\00:15:38.63 they basically were able to sling themselves using the 00:15:38.67\00:15:42.44 force of gravity after orbiting these planets. 00:15:42.47\00:15:46.74 Or the lunar missions that return back to earth, 00:15:46.78\00:15:49.68 all those mathematical equations, 00:15:49.71\00:15:52.11 they give us great dependability to say, 00:15:52.15\00:15:54.05 "This is the law. 00:15:54.08\00:15:55.42 This is how the law works. It does not vary. 00:15:55.45\00:15:57.32 It does not alter." 00:15:57.35\00:15:59.02 And, I mean, for me, deep math is what we call the 00:15:59.05\00:16:03.19 multiplication table, but it still works there. 00:16:03.22\00:16:06.96 Seven times seven, that's one I still remember because you need 00:16:07.00\00:16:10.27 it for Bible prophecy, is always forty-nine. 00:16:10.30\00:16:14.74 Do you know, it is the same in any language of the world. 00:16:14.77\00:16:19.34 Doesn't matter your culture, doesn't matter your religion, 00:16:19.37\00:16:22.04 7 times 7 is 49. 00:16:22.08\00:16:24.81 And so, there is actually great interest in math as explaining 00:16:24.85\00:16:29.62 God because math is much deeper than the multiplication table. 00:16:29.65\00:16:33.89 The argument is that mathematical laws, 00:16:33.92\00:16:36.06 in order to be properly relied upon, 00:16:36.09\00:16:38.16 must have attributes that indicate an origin in God. 00:16:38.19\00:16:42.40 They are true everywhere. That means they're omnipresent. 00:16:42.43\00:16:45.27 They're true always. They are eternal. 00:16:45.30\00:16:47.60 They cannot be defied or defeated. 00:16:47.64\00:16:49.84 That means they're omnipotent. 00:16:49.87\00:16:51.91 They're rational and they have language characteristics. 00:16:51.94\00:16:54.68 That makes them personal. Notice what I just said. 00:16:54.71\00:16:57.48 Math is omnipresent, omnipotent, eternal. 00:16:57.51\00:17:01.98 It's omniscient, it has a personal relationship. 00:17:02.02\00:17:05.52 It sounds like it expresses the mind of God. 00:17:05.55\00:17:08.62 Albert Einstein said, "The most incomprehensible thing 00:17:08.66\00:17:13.86 about the universe is that it is comprehensible." 00:17:13.90\00:17:16.87 I mean, even in the math that God has written. 00:17:19.63\00:17:20.94 Then you've got the concept of good and evil. 00:17:20.97\00:17:24.04 Actually, this is the point that many people turn to to say, 00:17:26.37\00:17:27.74 "There can't be a God." 00:17:27.78\00:17:29.08 They say, "If there was a God, why do so many 00:17:29.11\00:17:30.51 innocent people suffer? 00:17:30.55\00:17:31.85 If God is all-powerful, all-knowing, 00:17:31.88\00:17:33.25 why's there so much evil in the world? 00:17:33.28\00:17:35.28 And evil in the world proves there is no God." 00:17:35.32\00:17:37.52 And I'd say, "No, actually, evil proves there is a God, 00:17:37.55\00:17:40.22 not that God is evil. 00:17:40.26\00:17:41.59 But the reason you know that there is 00:17:41.62\00:17:43.09 evil is because God is good. 00:17:43.12\00:17:45.66 How do you know a line is crooked unless 00:17:45.69\00:17:48.30 you knew what straight was? 00:17:48.33\00:17:51.37 The reason you are even able to identify evil is because there 00:17:51.40\00:17:56.57 must be a definition for good. 00:17:56.60\00:17:58.94 And what is that definition? 00:17:58.97\00:18:01.54 You know, the Bible says, Jesus said, 00:18:01.58\00:18:03.21 "Only God is good." 00:18:03.24\00:18:05.78 Matter of fact, in English, we get the word "God" from "good." 00:18:05.81\00:18:09.95 When you tell a person, "Good morning," it used to originally 00:18:09.98\00:18:13.52 be, "God morning," 'cause "God" and "good" 00:18:13.56\00:18:17.89 are synonymous together. 00:18:17.93\00:18:21.53 So, in order to protest against evil, 00:18:21.56\00:18:24.73 a person must first have some transcendent idea 00:18:24.77\00:18:27.04 of what is good. 00:18:27.07\00:18:29.27 People around the world agree that evil 00:18:29.30\00:18:31.01 must be restrained and punished. 00:18:31.04\00:18:32.77 Even atheists agree with that, most of 'em. 00:18:32.81\00:18:35.51 Why? 00:18:35.54\00:18:37.08 If it is survival of the fittest, 00:18:37.11\00:18:40.92 then what would it matter? 00:18:40.95\00:18:45.09 Why is there any right or wrong? Is there any purpose to life? 00:18:45.12\00:18:50.16 Why would atheists teach in a university? 00:18:50.19\00:18:55.00 What good is knowledge? 00:18:55.03\00:18:56.36 They say, "Oh, it's good to be informed." 00:18:56.40\00:18:57.90 Why? 00:18:57.93\00:19:00.27 How do you have any definition of what "good" 00:19:00.30\00:19:01.84 and "bad" is unless there is some moral value, 00:19:01.87\00:19:04.57 unless there's a God? 00:19:04.61\00:19:05.94 Do you see what I'm saying? 00:19:05.97\00:19:07.31 So, all of it is gonna eventually come back to there 00:19:07.34\00:19:10.51 needs to be an original model for morals, 00:19:10.55\00:19:14.18 for right and wrong, and that's gonna indicate that 00:19:14.22\00:19:16.28 there's a God, there's a Creator. 00:19:16.32\00:19:18.89 I was driving home from work two days ago, 00:19:18.92\00:19:21.42 and during rush hour, and I came upon, 00:19:21.46\00:19:24.79 at a light, a group of Geese. 00:19:24.83\00:19:28.33 There were probably a dozen of 'em that were--I pulled out my 00:19:28.36\00:19:31.73 camera and snapped this. 00:19:31.77\00:19:33.80 It's very busy traffic. 00:19:33.84\00:19:36.77 You can see, there was actually three--one 00:19:36.81\00:19:38.81 of 'em's not in the picture. 00:19:38.84\00:19:40.14 Three adult geese where shepherding probably eight 00:19:40.18\00:19:43.31 or ten baby geese through very busy traffic. 00:19:43.35\00:19:48.08 Now, at this point, you see the light is red. 00:19:48.12\00:19:49.85 The light wasn't red the whole time. 00:19:49.88\00:19:51.85 And yet, what do you think the cars did? 00:19:51.89\00:19:54.59 Why did the cars stop and let these dumb goose cross the road? 00:19:54.62\00:19:59.26 Doesn't evolution teach survival of the fittest? 00:19:59.29\00:20:03.16 Shouldn't we prove that we, with our cars, 00:20:03.20\00:20:05.23 are more intelligent than they are and just, 00:20:05.27\00:20:08.37 you know, render them extinct? 00:20:08.40\00:20:12.07 Why did everybody wait? 00:20:12.11\00:20:13.74 And I bet some of them were atheists. 00:20:13.78\00:20:17.78 They waited for the goose to cross the road. 00:20:17.81\00:20:20.22 [laughing] 00:20:20.25\00:20:22.12 Because you know what? 00:20:22.15\00:20:23.75 Everybody has sort of a built-in intrinsic understanding. 00:20:23.79\00:20:27.76 There is a self-evident truth of certain things 00:20:27.79\00:20:31.86 being right and wrong. 00:20:31.89\00:20:34.10 And we all knew intrinsically it would be wrong to hurt those 00:20:34.10\00:20:40.94 innocent creatures, and especially when you saw 00:20:40.97\00:20:42.84 the parents putting their lives on the line 00:20:42.87\00:20:44.44 to try and get their flock across the road. 00:20:44.47\00:20:48.21 Winston Churchill said: "Men occasionally stumble over the 00:20:48.24\00:20:50.55 truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as 00:20:50.58\00:20:53.65 though nothing had happened." 00:20:53.68\00:20:55.88 The evidence is there if a person wants to know, 00:20:55.92\00:20:57.89 "Is there a God?" 00:20:57.92\00:20:59.72 And man, I think, is an example of that. 00:20:59.75\00:21:04.33 "What a piece of work," Shakespeare said, 00:21:04.36\00:21:06.26 "what a piece of work is man! 00:21:06.29\00:21:07.66 How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, 00:21:07.66\00:21:10.13 in form and moving how express, how admirable, 00:21:10.17\00:21:13.60 in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a 00:21:13.64\00:21:16.00 god--the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals!" 00:21:16.04\00:21:21.48 Humans think in the abstract. 00:21:21.51\00:21:23.95 We're able to record and communicate, 00:21:23.98\00:21:25.88 now digitally record. 00:21:25.91\00:21:28.02 We're free moral agents. We've got personalities. 00:21:28.05\00:21:30.89 We're virtually unpredictable, unlike goldfish and ants. 00:21:30.92\00:21:36.49 People are so unique because the Bible says, 00:21:36.52\00:21:40.53 Genesis 1:26: "God said, 'Let us make man in our image,'" 00:21:40.56\00:21:45.33 clearly, man is the dominant species on the planet. 00:21:45.37\00:21:47.90 You can see what he's made from, the heavens. 00:21:47.94\00:21:51.81 "Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, 00:21:51.84\00:21:54.01 and the birds of the air, and the cattle, 00:21:54.04\00:21:55.54 and over all of the earth." 00:21:55.58\00:21:58.31 Man has learned more in the last 200 years. 00:21:58.35\00:22:03.89 We didn't know about microbes and microwaves and radio waves 00:22:03.92\00:22:07.29 and light waves, and there's so much that we've learned, 00:22:07.32\00:22:10.09 to think that, just in this one generation. 00:22:10.13\00:22:14.00 God also has made us for a relationship, 00:22:14.00\00:22:19.60 which is proof of God, and God wants to have 00:22:19.63\00:22:21.20 a relationship with us. 00:22:21.24\00:22:22.54 Jeremiah 31:3: "The Lord has appeared to me of old, 00:22:22.57\00:22:26.34 saying, 'Yes, I have you with an everlasting love; 00:22:26.37\00:22:29.21 therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.'" 00:22:29.24\00:22:33.28 But do you know what some of the best evidence is? 00:22:33.31\00:22:36.62 It's in Jesus. 00:22:36.65\00:22:39.92 I know he is a biblical character, 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.49 but history also records Jesus. 00:22:41.52\00:22:44.03 You will find him recorded in history. 00:22:44.06\00:22:47.96 In our recent tour of Israel, our guide was an expert on 00:22:47.96\00:22:51.73 Flavius Josephus, who quoted that Jesus was a real character 00:22:51.77\00:22:56.40 who lived in a real time who was crucified. 00:22:56.44\00:22:59.71 Now, if a person doesn't believe, 00:22:59.74\00:23:04.28 and they're just believing a lie, 00:23:04.31\00:23:05.61 and the apostles got together and said, 00:23:05.65\00:23:07.62 "Here, I'll tell you what. 00:23:07.65\00:23:08.98 Let's create our own religion. 00:23:09.02\00:23:10.32 Maybe we can use it to raise money. 00:23:10.35\00:23:11.69 And let's say this guy really rose from the dead, 00:23:11.72\00:23:14.69 and let's say he did all these miracles. 00:23:14.72\00:23:16.06 Let's make this whole thing up." 00:23:16.09\00:23:18.46 You know, if you get a few people that know that there 00:23:18.49\00:23:20.66 is a conspiracy, it doesn't last long. 00:23:20.70\00:23:22.83 Somebody leaks, somebody caves in. 00:23:22.86\00:23:27.30 I remember a few years ago meeting Chuck Colson. 00:23:27.34\00:23:30.64 He was part of the Nixon Watergate scandal. 00:23:30.67\00:23:34.51 He was one of the insiders. 00:23:34.54\00:23:36.61 And there was a conspiracy, and they admitted it. 00:23:36.64\00:23:39.35 And Colson, who was also an attorney, 00:23:39.38\00:23:41.68 he went to jail for his crime. 00:23:41.72\00:23:43.12 He was converted in jail. 00:23:43.15\00:23:44.82 And he tells how, as soon as they realized--they all said, 00:23:44.85\00:23:51.63 "We'll stand for the president. 00:23:51.66\00:23:52.96 We're gonna deny everything." 00:23:52.99\00:23:54.30 But as soon as they realized they were goin' to jail, 00:23:54.30\00:23:56.20 and the attorney generals began to interview 'em, 00:23:56.23\00:23:58.67 it didn't take very long for one of 'em to say, 00:23:58.70\00:24:00.34 "I'll turn on all the others if you'll spare me." 00:24:00.37\00:24:03.00 They were so ready to lie, and tell the truth, 00:24:03.04\00:24:07.71 whatever they had to do to save their skin. 00:24:07.74\00:24:09.18 They all ended up turning and confessing. 00:24:09.21\00:24:12.45 But with the apostles, they never changed their story. 00:24:12.48\00:24:18.15 They were stoned. They were beaten. 00:24:18.19\00:24:19.92 They went into strange countries. 00:24:19.95\00:24:21.69 They were tortured. 00:24:21.72\00:24:23.02 They came away from the torture and they kept saying the same 00:24:23.06\00:24:25.83 thing, that Jesus was the Son of God, 00:24:25.86\00:24:28.73 even to the point of being beheaded like Paul, 00:24:28.76\00:24:33.30 or crucified like Peter. 00:24:33.34\00:24:35.40 If it was a made-up story, all the evidence would say, 00:24:35.44\00:24:40.11 "Wow, that is the best trick that's ever been pulled in 00:24:40.14\00:24:43.58 civilization, that they could keep it together." 00:24:43.61\00:24:46.68 Every one of 'em put their lives on the line that 00:24:46.72\00:24:48.88 "we were witnesses of these things." 00:24:48.92\00:24:51.32 And that's how John ends the Bible. 00:24:51.35\00:24:53.22 He says, "I, John, saw. These things are true." 00:24:53.25\00:24:57.16 So, if you believe the Bible, there's no question. 00:24:57.19\00:25:00.50 But even if you're just gonna look at history, 00:25:00.53\00:25:02.96 Christ said, "The things that I teach, 00:25:03.00\00:25:06.90 they'll never be forgotten. 00:25:06.94\00:25:08.47 It's gonna go into all the world." 00:25:08.50\00:25:10.44 How did he know that? He was an uneducated carpenter. 00:25:10.47\00:25:14.81 It happened, didn't it? So, in Christ. 00:25:14.84\00:25:17.91 The idea that someone would live a perfect, 00:25:17.95\00:25:19.51 sinless life and show so much love, 00:25:19.55\00:25:23.35 that's further evidence that God is a living God. 00:25:23.39\00:25:26.86 And so, friends, I would like to submit to you that--you know, 00:25:26.89\00:25:30.56 I would like to close actually with a Scripture: 00:25:30.59\00:25:33.63 "Lord, you have been our dwelling place 00:25:33.66\00:25:35.36 in all generations. 00:25:35.40\00:25:37.47 Before the mountains were brought forth, 00:25:37.50\00:25:39.50 or ever you have formed the earth and the world, 00:25:39.53\00:25:42.57 even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God." 00:25:42.60\00:25:47.68 God is eternal.
