male announcer: It is the bestselling book in history. 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.77 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, and its 00:00:05.87\00:00:10.17 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, should 00:00:10.31\00:00:14.31 always be studied carefully. 00:00:14.34\00:00:16.48 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.51\00:00:19.98 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:20.02\00:00:24.62 answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.65\00:00:28.39 This broadcast is a previously-recorded episode. 00:00:28.42\00:00:31.36 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.39\00:00:34.10 broadcast call 800-835-6747. 00:00:34.13\00:00:39.00 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.03\00:00:44.21 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.24\00:00:48.11 Pastor Jëan Ross. 00:00:48.14\00:00:49.98 Jëan Ross: Hello, friends. 00:00:50.01\00:00:51.31 How about an amazing fact? 00:00:51.35\00:00:52.85 In the 16th century, Holland was ruled by Margaret of Austria, a 00:00:52.88\00:00:56.72 woman renowned for intelligence and political skill. 00:00:56.75\00:01:00.06 She was the daughter of emperor Maximilian I of the Holy Roman 00:01:00.09\00:01:03.53 Empire, one of Europe's most powerful rulers at the time. 00:01:03.56\00:01:07.30 As a ruler in an era filled with court intrigue, assassinations, 00:01:07.30\00:01:10.93 and power struggles, Margaret was constantly on guard against 00:01:10.97\00:01:14.34 betrayal, especially the threat of poisoning, which was a common 00:01:14.37\00:01:18.64 method of assassination in those days. 00:01:18.67\00:01:21.54 To protect herself, Margaret only drank from a beautiful 00:01:21.58\00:01:24.71 goblet made of pure rock crystal. 00:01:24.75\00:01:28.28 She believed in the widespread myth that the crystal would 00:01:28.32\00:01:31.35 reveal poison by changing color. 00:01:31.39\00:01:34.42 However, fate had a different plan. 00:01:34.46\00:01:37.26 One day as a servant handed her a drink, the goblet slipped from 00:01:37.29\00:01:40.50 his hands and shattered on the stone floor. 00:01:40.53\00:01:43.10 Although the pieces were carefully cleaned up, a tiny 00:01:43.13\00:01:45.67 unnoticed shard found its way into Margaret's slipper. 00:01:45.70\00:01:49.50 Over time, the small piece of sharp crystal embedded itself in 00:01:49.54\00:01:53.44 her foot, leading to an unfortunate infection that 00:01:53.48\00:01:57.68 caused gangrene. 00:01:57.71\00:01:59.35 Despite the best efforts of her doctors, her condition worsened 00:01:59.38\00:02:02.55 until the only hope was the amputation of her leg, and a 00:02:02.58\00:02:06.69 deal from which she never recovered. 00:02:06.72\00:02:09.69 In a strange twist of fate, the very crystal goblet that she had 00:02:09.72\00:02:13.03 trusted to keep her safe became the cause of her death. 00:02:13.06\00:02:17.80 Just as Margaret depended upon a crystal goblet for protection, 00:02:17.83\00:02:21.74 many people today put their trust in wealth, status, 00:02:21.77\00:02:25.94 man-made traditions, yet these false assurances will 00:02:25.97\00:02:29.34 ultimately fail. 00:02:29.38\00:02:31.41 The Bible warns against placing trust in material possessions or 00:02:31.45\00:02:35.22 in human wisdom. 00:02:35.25\00:02:37.32 In Proverbs chapter 14, verse 12 we read, "There is a way that 00:02:37.35\00:02:41.62 seems right to a man, but the end of it is the way of death." 00:02:41.66\00:02:47.10 You know, Pastor Alden, we're living in a society today where 00:02:47.13\00:02:50.13 people are looking at what's happening in the world around 00:02:50.17\00:02:52.40 them, and they're wondering, "Where can I put my trust? 00:02:52.43\00:02:55.20 Where can I find security? 00:02:55.24\00:02:56.60 Is it in finances? 00:02:56.64\00:02:58.04 Is it in possession? 00:02:58.07\00:02:59.37 Is it in human power?" 00:02:59.41\00:03:01.01 Well, the Bible says there's something better. 00:03:01.04\00:03:03.55 We can trust the Word of God, right, 'cause the Bible reveals 00:03:03.58\00:03:06.31 to us a Savior, and we can trust in Jesus. 00:03:06.35\00:03:10.55 Matter of fact, the Bible tells us in Psalms 118, verse 8, "It 00:03:10.59\00:03:15.26 is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man." 00:03:15.29\00:03:19.49 I think that's a pretty clear verse there, not to be putting 00:03:19.53\00:03:22.56 our confidence in any man-made tradition or human, earthly 00:03:22.60\00:03:27.44 power but put our trust in Jesus. 00:03:27.47\00:03:30.27 Friends, we do have a study guide that'll help you 00:03:30.31\00:03:32.94 understand the power of the Word of God, which is to be our 00:03:32.97\00:03:35.88 foundation, that is a free gift, and we'll offer it to anyone who 00:03:35.91\00:03:39.38 calls and asks. 00:03:39.41\00:03:40.98 How do they receive that free offer? 00:03:41.02\00:03:42.92 Alden Ho: Well, if you want this offer, the offer is called "Is 00:03:42.95\00:03:45.62 There Anything Left You Can Trust?" 00:03:45.65\00:03:48.09 And you can get it by calling 1-800-835-6747. 00:03:48.12\00:03:53.86 If you happen to be driving and you can't juggle all those 00:03:53.90\00:03:56.77 numbers, you can just hit #250 and you can ask for the offer 00:03:56.80\00:04:02.80 "Is There Anything Left You Can Trust?" 00:04:02.84\00:04:04.61 That's not a text, but that's an actual call that you're going to 00:04:04.64\00:04:07.38 be calling in. 00:04:07.41\00:04:08.71 For those who just tuned in, we have our number here if you'd 00:04:08.74\00:04:11.68 like to call for asking a question. 00:04:11.71\00:04:13.68 It's 1-800-463-7297. 00:04:13.72\00:04:18.85 Jëan: And my name is Jëan Ross. 00:04:18.89\00:04:20.46 And? 00:05:11.84\00:05:13.31 Alden: We have Janean. 00:05:13.34\00:05:14.68 She's in North Carolina, and she actually has a very 00:05:14.71\00:05:17.11 good question. 00:05:17.15\00:05:18.45 And her question pertains to, well, can she actually 00:05:18.48\00:05:23.15 stay home? 00:05:23.18\00:05:24.49 Jëan: Janean, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:24.52\00:05:25.85 You're on the air. 00:05:25.89\00:05:27.19 Janean: Well, my question is I'm handicapped and I haven't been 00:05:27.22\00:05:34.20 into church for a while because I have one bad leg that really 00:05:34.23\00:05:41.00 jumps, and I don't want to go to church and fall. 00:05:41.04\00:05:46.71 Will I be saved if I don't go to church? 00:05:46.74\00:05:51.58 I do watch church on the Hope Channel. 00:05:51.61\00:05:57.15 Jëan: Okay. 00:05:57.19\00:05:58.52 Well, that is a good question. 00:05:58.55\00:05:59.85 Do we have to go to church to be saved? 00:05:59.89\00:06:01.56 Well, obviously, there's situations, like you explained, 00:06:01.59\00:06:04.23 where we can't get out for sickness or handicap. 00:06:04.26\00:06:07.60 Fortunately, we can still participate in worship through 00:06:07.60\00:06:10.63 modern technology. 00:06:10.67\00:06:11.97 At Granite Bay Church, one of the church--churches--well, the 00:06:12.00\00:06:15.20 church that I pastor here, we have what we call 00:06:15.24\00:06:18.67 online members. 00:06:18.71\00:06:20.04 So folks actually tune in every week, and they watch through the 00:06:20.08\00:06:22.61 internet, and they participate as much as they can from 00:06:22.64\00:06:25.28 a distance. 00:06:25.31\00:06:26.65 So yes, there are situations where people can't actually get 00:06:26.68\00:06:29.05 out to church. 00:06:29.08\00:06:30.39 God understands. 00:06:30.42\00:06:31.75 We can still worship Him in truth. 00:06:31.79\00:06:33.76 We can still be faithful wherever we are. 00:06:33.79\00:06:36.29 If possible, it's always nice and we encourage people to visit 00:06:36.32\00:06:40.10 or at least try to get out as much as possible to participate 00:06:40.13\00:06:43.06 in a local church in your area, but obviously because of health 00:06:43.10\00:06:46.84 situations, maybe somebody is living too far away from a 00:06:46.87\00:06:49.64 church and they can't get to the church, well, then you can 00:06:49.67\00:06:52.47 participate through modern technology. 00:06:52.51\00:06:55.81 So yes, God knows the heart. 00:06:55.84\00:06:57.21 He understands the situation of each person. 00:06:57.25\00:06:59.65 And yes, don't be worried that you won't be saved. 00:06:59.68\00:07:02.48 No. 00:07:02.52\00:07:03.82 God understands and God knows. 00:07:03.85\00:07:05.22 Thank you, Janean. 00:07:05.25\00:07:06.59 Who do we have next? 00:07:06.62\00:07:07.92 Alden: We have Glenn calling from Ohio. 00:07:07.96\00:07:09.29 Glenn, he's got a question regarding two verses. 00:07:09.32\00:07:12.59 Jëan: Hi, Glenn. 00:07:12.63\00:07:13.93 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:13.96\00:07:15.33 Glenn: Good evening and thank you for taking my call, pastors. 00:07:15.36\00:07:19.03 And my two Scriptures is Isaiah chapter 60, all of it, and the 00:07:19.07\00:07:25.14 Old Testament Scriptures, Zechariah chapter 8. 00:07:25.17\00:07:29.48 They both start with 00:07:29.51\00:07:31.31 an accolade to Jerusalem, and they end up 00:07:31.35\00:07:33.95 talking about a massive movement of Gentiles to Jerusalem. 00:07:33.98\00:07:38.35 My question is, is it possible that these two events could be 00:07:38.39\00:07:44.99 the same prophetically? 00:07:45.03\00:07:47.10 Jëan: Okay. Yes, there is a connection. 00:07:47.13\00:07:49.76 There is a theme that we see in the Old Testament, and then it's 00:07:49.80\00:07:51.67 also paralleled in the New Testament. 00:07:51.70\00:07:53.47 And that is in the Old Testament you have Israel representing the 00:07:53.50\00:07:56.20 people of God, and then you have the Gentiles, those who have not 00:07:56.24\00:08:00.31 made decision for the truth. 00:08:00.34\00:08:02.51 They don't know the truth. 00:08:02.54\00:08:03.85 And the purpose of God raising up Israel was to proclaim 00:08:03.88\00:08:07.18 the truth. 00:08:07.22\00:08:08.45 They were the recipients of his law and they were to be a light 00:08:08.48\00:08:10.92 unto the Gentiles, to shine forth the gospel of truth. 00:08:10.95\00:08:14.49 And there was a remnant, as we know, that did receive Jesus as 00:08:14.52\00:08:18.69 the Messiah and they came out of--well, they were literal 00:08:18.73\00:08:22.70 Jews, but they became part of spiritual Israel or the church, 00:08:22.73\00:08:27.57 and the gospel then goes to the Gentiles. 00:08:27.60\00:08:29.97 So these passages of Scripture in particular that you talking 00:08:30.01\00:08:32.24 about in Isaiah chapter 60, we don't have time to read through 00:08:32.27\00:08:34.48 the whole chapter, and also Zechariah 8, it speaks of the 00:08:34.51\00:08:37.61 Gentiles coming to Jerusalem, the ancient historical city of 00:08:37.65\00:08:42.62 Jerusalem which existed in the time of Jesus. 00:08:42.65\00:08:45.92 The temple, of course, in Jerusalem was destroyed in 00:08:45.95\00:08:47.76 70 AD. 00:08:47.79\00:08:49.12 And, of course, Jerusalem today is a type of the new Jerusalem 00:08:49.16\00:08:52.06 that we read about. 00:08:52.09\00:08:53.40 And the new Jerusalem is symbolic in two senses. 00:08:53.43\00:08:56.06 One, it represents the people of God or represents the church and 00:08:56.10\00:08:59.50 its people responding to the preaching of the gospel and they 00:08:59.53\00:09:02.80 coming and being a part of God's spiritual Jerusalem, God's 00:09:02.84\00:09:06.61 spiritual temple. 00:09:06.64\00:09:08.31 But there is a new Jerusalem that the Bible speaks of. 00:09:08.34\00:09:11.35 And when the earth is made new, in Revelation chapter 21 it 00:09:11.38\00:09:14.42 talks about the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven. 00:09:14.45\00:09:16.75 It speaks of all the nations gathering and coming into the 00:09:16.79\00:09:19.89 new Jerusalem, coming to worship God. 00:09:19.92\00:09:22.02 So it's got a prophetic application as well. 00:09:22.06\00:09:25.03 It's got the symbolic meaning, meaning the new Jerusalem or 00:09:25.06\00:09:27.86 the--Jerusalem the church, and then it has this prophetic 00:09:27.86\00:09:31.33 fulfillment that happens at the end of time when all things are 00:09:31.37\00:09:34.70 made new. 00:09:34.74\00:09:36.04 Alden: Pastor Jëan, don't we have a pocketbook on that? 00:09:36.07\00:09:37.94 That's "Spiritual Israel." 00:09:37.97\00:09:39.37 Jëan: We do. 00:09:39.41\00:09:40.74 That is a great read that I think deals with a number of 00:09:40.78\00:09:42.51 these passages of Scripture that people have. 00:09:42.54\00:09:44.38 And how do they get that book? 00:09:44.41\00:09:45.75 Alden: So if you'd like to get that book called "Spiritual 00:09:45.78\00:09:47.55 Israel" you can call the number 1-800-835-6747 and ask for that 00:09:47.58\00:09:52.95 book "Spiritual Israel." 00:09:52.99\00:09:54.79 And speaking of Jerusalem, Andrew's here with--from Kansas 00:09:54.82\00:09:59.39 and he's got a question about city or country living. 00:09:59.43\00:10:02.50 Jëan: Hi, Andrew. 00:10:02.53\00:10:03.83 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:03.87\00:10:05.17 Andrew: Hello. 00:10:05.20\00:10:06.53 Yeah, my question is, where do we find in the Bible that we're 00:10:06.57\00:10:11.24 supposed to head out to--head out of the cities in--at--you 00:10:11.27\00:10:15.71 know, at the end times? 00:10:15.74\00:10:17.51 Jëan: Okay. 00:10:17.55\00:10:18.78 Well, you know, the Bible does make it clear that in the end 00:10:18.81\00:10:20.58 time God's people are going to face persecution. 00:10:20.62\00:10:23.65 First of all, you're not going to be able to buy and sell. 00:10:23.69\00:10:26.32 God does promise to be with these people and He will direct. 00:10:26.35\00:10:29.99 Cities are probably one of the first things that are going to 00:10:30.03\00:10:32.33 face judgment. 00:10:32.36\00:10:33.80 Even now when there's political unrest, it usually centers in 00:10:33.83\00:10:36.93 the cities, especially as we reach the end of time. 00:10:36.97\00:10:39.73 And there's an increase of strife, judgments are coming. 00:10:39.77\00:10:43.10 Eventually you read in Revelation, talks about the 00:10:43.14\00:10:45.14 seven last plagues falling upon cities and upon entire nations. 00:10:45.17\00:10:50.38 You want to be in the country. 00:10:50.41\00:10:52.48 And throughout history when God's people face persecution, 00:10:52.51\00:10:56.45 they would often flee from the cities to a more remote area. 00:10:56.48\00:11:00.96 During the 1,260 years of papal supremacy you had groups like 00:11:00.99\00:11:04.36 the Waldensians who found safety in the mountains of 00:11:04.39\00:11:07.60 Northern Italy. 00:11:07.60\00:11:09.33 Jesus said when they persecute you in one city, then flee to 00:11:09.36\00:11:12.57 the next. 00:11:12.60\00:11:13.94 And so as we near the end of time, I think God's going to be 00:11:13.97\00:11:16.57 leading, and we want to start removing ourselves especially 00:11:16.60\00:11:20.58 from these big, dense cities. 00:11:20.61\00:11:22.81 Even now I don't think you want to be in Downtown L.A. 00:11:22.84\00:11:26.55 or San Francisco or New York City and try and raise a family. 00:11:26.58\00:11:30.49 There is so much crime and conflict and issues that are 00:11:30.52\00:11:33.22 taking place in our cities. 00:11:33.25\00:11:34.66 Now, there's still a work to do. 00:11:34.69\00:11:36.02 We got to reach people in the city. 00:11:36.06\00:11:37.29 And so some are called to preach and teach, share the gospel even 00:11:37.33\00:11:41.06 in large cities, but it's pretty clear from Scripture that as we 00:11:41.10\00:11:44.67 near the end, the safest place is going to be in the more rural 00:11:44.70\00:11:48.84 country type areas. 00:11:48.87\00:11:50.37 Alden: You know, my mind goes to the verse that Jesus was talking 00:11:50.41\00:11:53.58 about in Matthew 24, verse 15. 00:11:53.61\00:11:56.31 "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation spoken 00:11:56.34\00:11:58.88 of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place," and 00:11:58.91\00:12:02.12 then verse 16 is the key, "then let those who are in Judea flee 00:12:02.15\00:12:05.62 to the mountains." 00:12:05.65\00:12:07.19 And we have a pocketbook on that too that's called 00:12:07.22\00:12:10.03 "The Abomination of Desolation." 00:12:10.06\00:12:12.06 Jëan: Okay. 00:12:12.09\00:12:13.43 So there are some prophetic signs that the Bible gives us. 00:12:13.46\00:12:15.20 Alden: There is. 00:12:15.23\00:12:16.56 Jëan: And in particular, the abomination of desolation. 00:12:16.60\00:12:17.90 Now, that is a historical application, refers to the 00:12:17.93\00:12:20.37 destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD by the Romans. 00:12:20.40\00:12:23.07 But like many of these symbols, it also has a future prophetic 00:12:23.10\00:12:27.91 application even to our time. 00:12:27.94\00:12:29.44 So you want to get that, friends. 00:12:29.48\00:12:30.85 It's called "The Abomination of Desolation." 00:12:30.88\00:12:33.25 One of the Amazing Facts' pocketbooks, and it's free. 00:12:33.28\00:12:36.89 As they say, the price is right. 00:12:36.92\00:12:38.22 What do you have to do to get the book? 00:12:38.25\00:12:39.59 Alden: And it's on the screen right now. 00:12:39.62\00:12:41.09 If you call 1-800-835-6747, ask for "The Abomination of 00:12:41.12\00:12:46.33 Desolation," and we'll be glad to send that to you. 00:12:46.36\00:12:49.66 We have Lena in Florida, first-time caller, and she's got 00:12:49.70\00:12:53.03 a question here regarding her faith and how she--how you 00:12:53.07\00:12:58.14 live today. 00:12:58.17\00:12:59.51 Jëan: Hi, Lena. 00:12:59.54\00:13:00.91 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:13:00.94\00:13:02.28 You're on the air. 00:13:02.31\00:13:03.61 Lena: Thank you. 00:13:03.65\00:13:04.95 My husband and I had seven children. 00:13:04.98\00:13:06.35 He's since passed in 2021. 00:13:06.38\00:13:10.69 And my children are faced daily with the burden of the economy, 00:13:10.72\00:13:18.49 the way it is and everything, and I worry that I--when they 00:13:18.53\00:13:23.93 talk to me and I fall short of giving them, like, a 00:13:23.97\00:13:30.21 Christian answer. 00:13:30.24\00:13:32.04 And I watched the Doug Batchelor program on the Holy 00:13:32.07\00:13:37.95 Spirit today. 00:13:37.98\00:13:39.61 And I don't want to lose my chance with having 00:13:39.65\00:13:48.79 possibly the Holy Spirit come to me. 00:13:48.82\00:13:52.26 I feel like I'm just hanging on by the grace of God, but I want 00:13:52.29\00:13:56.90 to be faithful and talk to my children, but I don't know how 00:13:56.93\00:14:02.24 to do without turning back to sin. 00:14:02.27\00:14:06.44 You know, I'm not saying anything bad, but-- 00:14:06.47\00:14:09.64 Jëan: Yeah, so basically 00:14:09.68\00:14:11.21 you're asking, how can we live a Christian life and 00:14:11.25\00:14:12.91 be a witness to our family even in the midst of a very 00:14:12.95\00:14:16.69 sinful world? 00:14:16.72\00:14:18.29 Well, first of all, you want to begin by making sure that your 00:14:18.32\00:14:21.56 heart is right with God, and you do that by coming before Him 00:14:21.59\00:14:25.26 with a spirit of repentance. 00:14:25.29\00:14:26.90 The Bible says if we confess our sins, 1 John 1:9, He's faithful 00:14:26.93\00:14:30.83 and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all 00:14:30.87\00:14:33.07 our unrighteousness. 00:14:33.10\00:14:34.40 So we need to believe that if we come to God and we say, "Lord, 00:14:34.44\00:14:37.04 please forgive me," that He will. 00:14:37.07\00:14:39.64 Then we also need to ask for the Holy Spirit. 00:14:39.67\00:14:41.94 And Jesus says, "How much more your heavenly Father is willing 00:14:41.98\00:14:45.18 to give the Holy Spirit to those that ask Him." 00:14:45.21\00:14:47.92 So we need to ask and say, "Lord, I can't live the 00:14:47.95\00:14:50.69 Christian life without the help of the Holy Spirit." 00:14:50.72\00:14:53.39 Don't wait for some kind of feeling because the Bible says 00:14:53.42\00:14:56.62 we are to walk by faith, not by sight. 00:14:56.66\00:14:58.99 So that means that we claim the promises of God, we believe that 00:14:59.03\00:15:02.20 God is doing a work within us. 00:15:02.23\00:15:03.67 Even though we might not feel it right then and there, we are 00:15:03.70\00:15:06.97 trusting that God is in control. 00:15:07.00\00:15:09.24 You know, there's an interesting picture that you see in 00:15:09.27\00:15:11.67 Scripture where it describes God as the potter and we are 00:15:11.71\00:15:17.41 the clay. 00:15:17.45\00:15:18.78 And the one who molds the clay is the potter. 00:15:18.81\00:15:21.68 And so when we give our hearts to Jesus, we need to trust that 00:15:21.72\00:15:24.99 He is molding our characters, He is transforming us. 00:15:25.02\00:15:28.86 Sometimes we can't even see it, but we are to trust that He will 00:15:28.89\00:15:31.93 finish the work that He has started. 00:15:31.96\00:15:34.00 Don't get discouraged though, Leanne, if you stumble and fall. 00:15:34.00\00:15:38.37 And God is on your side. 00:15:38.40\00:15:39.73 He wants to save you. 00:15:39.77\00:15:41.07 Just come back to Him and say, "Lord, please forgive me." 00:15:41.10\00:15:43.37 Claim the promises. 00:15:43.41\00:15:44.77 What can we do to influence those around us, especially 00:15:44.81\00:15:47.08 our children? 00:15:47.11\00:15:48.44 Well, first of all, we can be an example. 00:15:48.48\00:15:50.68 So we can have a life of faith, trusting in the Lord, holding on 00:15:50.71\00:15:54.52 to Him. 00:15:54.55\00:15:55.88 We can speak or share with others, with our family, our 00:15:55.92\00:15:59.69 faith, as the opportunities open up. 00:15:59.72\00:16:02.36 I mean, if they don't want to hear, you can't push it on them, 00:16:02.39\00:16:05.09 but you can also pray. 00:16:05.13\00:16:06.49 So you can live a life, you can share where you can, and you can 00:16:06.53\00:16:12.40 pray for them, asking that the Lord would guide in their hearts 00:16:12.43\00:16:15.84 and lives and bring them to a point of realizing their need 00:16:15.87\00:16:18.81 of Jesus. 00:16:18.84\00:16:20.51 So those are the things we want to do. 00:16:20.54\00:16:22.04 And, you know, living the Christian life is the work of 00:16:22.08\00:16:25.15 a lifetime. 00:16:25.18\00:16:26.48 You know, we step forward and we stumble. 00:16:26.51\00:16:28.45 We just got to get right back up and say, "Lord, please forgive 00:16:28.48\00:16:30.82 me," and press on, trusting in the Lord. 00:16:30.85\00:16:34.26 Sometimes Christians are living a life, their Christian life, 00:16:34.29\00:16:36.79 and they're so filled with fear and anxiety and worried, "Well, 00:16:36.83\00:16:39.83 am I saved? 00:16:39.86\00:16:41.13 Am I doing the right thing?" 00:16:41.16\00:16:42.50 Just commit your heart to Jesus and trust in Him, right, and 00:16:42.53\00:16:45.17 then be faithful each and every day. 00:16:45.20\00:16:47.67 You know, we do have a book. 00:16:47.70\00:16:49.00 It's talking about life in the spirit. 00:16:49.04\00:16:51.11 Talks about the Holy Spirit, you know, how we can have assurance 00:16:51.14\00:16:53.94 in our Christian experience. 00:16:53.98\00:16:55.28 Actually we have a book called "Assurance:" as well, 00:16:55.31\00:16:57.18 "Justification Made Simple." 00:16:57.21\00:16:58.81 So "Life in the Spirit" and the book "Assurance: Justification 00:16:58.85\00:17:02.75 Made Simple." 00:17:02.78\00:17:04.09 Both of them are excellent reads filled with wonderful 00:17:04.12\00:17:07.12 Bible promises. 00:17:07.16\00:17:08.52 And, Leanne, you would be blessed to read that. 00:17:08.56\00:17:10.86 Just call and ask. 00:17:10.89\00:17:12.19 And for anyone, you can call and ask for those two books, "Life 00:17:12.23\00:17:14.93 in the Spirits--in the Spirit" and "Assurance: Justification 00:17:14.96\00:17:18.77 Made Simple." 00:17:18.80\00:17:20.14 Alden: You know, the other thing I was thinking of too is that 00:17:20.17\00:17:23.14 children are actually watching mom. 00:17:23.17\00:17:26.01 And so if you display your faith and you have morning worships 00:17:26.04\00:17:30.88 with your children, that's very important for them to be able to 00:17:30.91\00:17:34.12 see that you actually practice what you profess to believe and 00:17:34.15\00:17:37.25 what you're trying to talk about. 00:17:37.29\00:17:38.75 And that's very needed for their own faith as well. 00:17:38.79\00:17:43.26 Jëan: Yeah, they want to see faith in action, right-- 00:17:43.29\00:17:45.29 Alden: Exactly. 00:17:45.33\00:17:46.66 Jëan: As a witness. 00:17:46.70\00:17:47.96 Well, thank you, Leanne, for your question. 00:17:48.00\00:17:49.33 Good question. 00:17:49.36\00:17:50.67 Who do we have next? 00:17:50.70\00:17:52.03 Alden: We have Anna from Oregon, and she's got a question 00:17:52.07\00:17:54.00 regarding justification and salvation. 00:17:54.04\00:17:56.04 Welcome, Anna. 00:17:56.07\00:17:57.37 Jëan: Hi, Anna. 00:17:57.41\00:17:58.74 You're on the air. 00:17:58.77\00:18:00.14 Anna: Hi. Evening, pastors. 00:18:00.18\00:18:02.84 So I've heard a bunch of different pastors and preachers 00:18:02.88\00:18:05.91 talk about justification, I guess sanctification, 00:18:05.95\00:18:09.52 and salvation. 00:18:09.55\00:18:10.85 I don't know if those are the same thing, but I was wondering 00:18:10.89\00:18:14.22 if you could maybe clear it up for me. 00:18:14.26\00:18:17.46 Jëan: Absolutely. 00:18:17.49\00:18:18.83 So there are three terms that is often used with reference 00:18:18.86\00:18:21.03 to salvation. 00:18:21.06\00:18:22.40 So salvation would be the big umbrella, salvation or 00:18:22.43\00:18:24.27 redemption, and it's divided up into three parts. 00:18:24.30\00:18:27.27 The first is what we call justification, the second is 00:18:27.30\00:18:30.41 sanctification, and the third is glorification. 00:18:30.44\00:18:34.18 Now, each of them have a different function, a 00:18:34.21\00:18:36.14 different work. 00:18:36.18\00:18:37.51 So justification occurs when we come to Jesus and we confess our 00:18:37.55\00:18:40.52 sins, just like 1 John 1, verse 9, the verse I just quoted. 00:18:40.55\00:18:43.92 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us. 00:18:43.95\00:18:47.52 The famous passage in Scripture, John 3:16 says if we believe in 00:18:47.56\00:18:51.76 Jesus, that's justification. 00:18:51.79\00:18:53.60 That's where God accepts us just as if we have never sinned. 00:18:53.63\00:18:57.17 We are clothed with Christ's robe of righteousness. 00:18:57.20\00:19:00.47 All of our sins are cleansed and the righteous of Jesus is 00:19:00.50\00:19:05.24 accredited to our account. 00:19:05.27\00:19:06.88 So we are justified. 00:19:06.91\00:19:08.64 Another way of thinking of justification is freedom from 00:19:08.68\00:19:11.35 the penalty of sin. 00:19:11.38\00:19:13.31 The Bible says the wages of sin is death, but if we receive 00:19:13.35\00:19:16.28 Jesus, and He is our substitute, our sacrifice, we are freed from 00:19:16.32\00:19:21.22 the penalty of sin, which is death, and we can have hope and 00:19:21.26\00:19:24.53 we can trust in a glorious future of eternal life. 00:19:24.56\00:19:28.03 But in addition to justification, there is 00:19:28.06\00:19:29.96 something the Bible refers to as sanctification. 00:19:30.00\00:19:32.57 When you receive Jesus as your personal Savior, the Holy Spirit 00:19:32.60\00:19:35.44 now begins to work within your heart and within your life. 00:19:35.47\00:19:39.77 The things you once loved you don't love so much anymore and 00:19:39.81\00:19:43.21 the things you weren't interested in, the spiritual 00:19:43.24\00:19:45.21 things, suddenly there is a growing desire to learn more. 00:19:45.25\00:19:48.12 You want to know more about Jesus. 00:19:48.15\00:19:50.65 And the sins that before you probably didn't think too much 00:19:50.69\00:19:54.09 about, but now when you sin you feel bad and you say, "Lord, 00:19:54.12\00:19:57.99 please forgive me." 00:19:58.03\00:19:59.36 And that's evidence that the Holy Spirit is working upon your 00:19:59.39\00:20:01.33 heart, and the Holy Spirit is beginning to do a work of 00:20:01.36\00:20:04.17 transformation or changing us from the inside out. 00:20:04.20\00:20:07.34 So sanctification is freedom from the power of sin. 00:20:07.37\00:20:10.17 Justification, freedom from the penalty, and then sanctification 00:20:10.21\00:20:13.98 is freedom from the power of sin in our lives and in the world 00:20:14.01\00:20:17.48 even today. 00:20:17.51\00:20:18.91 But we are still living in a sin-polluted environment. 00:20:18.95\00:20:22.08 There is pain, and suffering, and sorrow, and death in this 00:20:22.12\00:20:25.15 world today. 00:20:25.19\00:20:26.52 And so the ultimate reward for the redeemed is when all things 00:20:26.55\00:20:28.89 are made new. 00:20:28.92\00:20:30.23 That is freedom from the penalty or the presence, I should say, 00:20:30.26\00:20:33.66 the presence of sin, and that's glorification. 00:20:33.70\00:20:36.43 That happens when Jesus comes the second time. 00:20:36.46\00:20:39.10 These mortal bodies put on immortality, and one day Jesus 00:20:39.13\00:20:42.50 will make all things new, a new heavens and a new earth as we 00:20:42.54\00:20:45.14 read about in Revelation chapter 21. 00:20:45.17\00:20:47.11 So justification is the freedom of the penalty of sin, 00:20:47.14\00:20:50.75 sanctification is freedom from the power of sin, and 00:20:50.78\00:20:53.92 glorification is freedom from the presence of sin. 00:20:53.95\00:20:57.29 So that's an easy way to think of it. 00:20:57.32\00:20:59.52 We do have a book called "Justification--" Or "Assurance: 00:20:59.55\00:21:02.52 Justification Made Simple." 00:21:02.56\00:21:05.13 We also have another book that I just thought of right now. 00:21:05.16\00:21:07.13 It's called "Three Steps to Heaven." 00:21:07.20\00:21:09.20 It talks about justification, sanctification, glorification. 00:21:09.23\00:21:12.20 You might want to call and ask for that. 00:21:12.23\00:21:14.37 And what's the number? 00:21:14.40\00:21:15.70 Alden: You can call 1-800-835-6747 and ask for 00:21:15.74\00:21:19.04 those books. 00:21:19.07\00:21:20.38 You know, one of the things I was thinking about when it comes 00:21:20.41\00:21:22.18 to this is many religions believe that when you accept 00:21:22.21\00:21:27.05 Christ, you're saved at that moment and you just jump from 00:21:27.08\00:21:30.49 justification to waiting for the Lord to return, glorification, 00:21:30.52\00:21:34.09 but they miss that long road in the middle, which actually Jesus 00:21:34.12\00:21:39.13 talked about in Matthew 25 with the virgins. 00:21:39.16\00:21:41.63 Jëan: That's right. 00:21:41.66\00:21:42.96 Well, you know, when we receive Jesus we're not immediately 00:21:43.00\00:21:44.53 transported to heaven. 00:21:44.57\00:21:45.90 We still have to live in a world of sin. 00:21:45.93\00:21:47.70 Our characters don't change overnight. 00:21:47.74\00:21:50.91 That sinful inclination is still there even after we 00:21:50.94\00:21:53.94 receive Jesus. 00:21:53.98\00:21:55.31 And we want to live a victorious life. 00:21:55.34\00:21:56.64 We need to gain victory. 00:21:56.68\00:21:58.01 And so that's sanctification that begins to work within us. 00:21:58.05\00:22:00.78 All right, thank you. 00:22:00.82\00:22:02.12 Who do we have next? 00:22:02.15\00:22:03.49 Alden: We have Anthony in New York. 00:22:03.52\00:22:04.82 Anthony is asking a question about marriage here. 00:22:04.85\00:22:07.12 Jëan: Hi, Anthony. 00:22:07.16\00:22:08.49 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." You're on the air. 00:22:08.52\00:22:10.16 Anthony: Yes. Hello. 00:22:10.19\00:22:11.49 Good evening, pastors. 00:22:11.53\00:22:12.96 My question is a very sensitive topic, but I think it's very 00:22:12.99\00:22:16.56 important, especially in this day in which we're living. 00:22:16.60\00:22:19.43 I know that God hates divorce and, you know, I--but I do see 00:22:19.47\00:22:24.94 in Matthew chapter 19, starting in verse 8 where it talks 00:22:24.97\00:22:30.45 about--well, yeah, around that area where it talks about Moses 00:22:30.48\00:22:34.98 allowing divorce because of the hardness of our hearts. 00:22:35.02\00:22:40.99 And--but the Bible--God does make it very clear that it's 00:22:41.02\00:22:44.09 only as a matter of adultery that He condones divorce 00:22:44.13\00:22:48.33 and separation. 00:22:48.36\00:22:49.70 So my question is specifically though as it pertains to abuse, 00:22:49.73\00:22:53.90 physical, emotional, verbal abuse, things like that. 00:22:53.94\00:22:58.34 What does the Bible have to say about how God wants us to handle 00:22:58.37\00:23:03.35 abuse in a marital relationship? 00:23:03.38\00:23:06.01 Jëan: Okay. 00:23:06.05\00:23:07.35 Anthony: Especially when there's children involved. 00:23:07.38\00:23:08.72 Jëan: Yes, that's a good question. 00:23:08.75\00:23:09.98 Of course, we live in a world of sin, and sin affects every area 00:23:10.02\00:23:12.25 of our lives, including relationships. 00:23:12.29\00:23:14.02 And it's especially difficult when in a marriage you have a 00:23:14.06\00:23:17.89 believer and somebody who's not a believer or maybe you have 00:23:17.93\00:23:21.70 different conflicts of personalities and people are 00:23:21.73\00:23:25.07 facing abuse. 00:23:25.10\00:23:26.84 First of all, if somebody is in a situation where they're facing 00:23:26.87\00:23:29.47 physical abuse, you probably want to remove yourself from 00:23:29.50\00:23:32.77 that situation. 00:23:32.81\00:23:34.84 Of course, there is verbal abuse that somebody can give you and 00:23:34.88\00:23:38.31 so on and so forth. 00:23:38.35\00:23:39.78 That doesn't necessarily mean that you get divorced 00:23:39.81\00:23:41.88 right away. 00:23:41.92\00:23:43.22 There are situations where separation might be needed, 00:23:43.25\00:23:46.65 where you need to take a break and maybe you do need to seek 00:23:46.69\00:23:49.62 some counseling and speak to the pastor if it's two believers. 00:23:49.66\00:23:52.99 And you want to find a Christian counselor to kind of help you in 00:23:53.03\00:23:56.00 that situation. 00:23:56.03\00:23:57.90 The divorce is not the first option. 00:23:57.93\00:24:00.24 There are other options. 00:24:00.27\00:24:01.57 First, separation. 00:24:01.60\00:24:02.94 You want to make sure that you're safe and you want to make 00:24:02.97\00:24:04.71 sure your children are safe, especially if it's a very 00:24:04.74\00:24:07.61 physically abusive situation, and they are suffering. 00:24:07.64\00:24:09.91 So we want to be aware of that. 00:24:09.94\00:24:12.41 And then maybe seek the guidance of a trusted Christian counselor 00:24:12.45\00:24:17.15 or a pastor and pray for guidance. 00:24:17.19\00:24:19.42 Say, "Lord, what would be the right steps?" 00:24:19.45\00:24:21.69 You don't want to rush to divorce, but you do want to make 00:24:21.72\00:24:24.66 sure that you are in a safe environment first, and then 00:24:24.69\00:24:28.73 begin to dialogue and discuss. 00:24:28.76\00:24:30.73 Ultimately, you know, God is able to change the heart if two 00:24:30.77\00:24:33.34 people are willing. 00:24:33.37\00:24:34.67 I've seen miracles in my ministry in counseling many 00:24:34.70\00:24:36.71 people, many couples. 00:24:36.74\00:24:38.07 And if there is a willingness and a humbling of the heart, God 00:24:38.11\00:24:42.14 can transform somebody's life. 00:24:42.18\00:24:44.71 It's amazing what can happen. 00:24:44.75\00:24:47.05 But that's where you need to kind of pray for guidance and 00:24:47.08\00:24:50.12 seek some counsel and some guidance from some 00:24:50.15\00:24:53.29 Christian counselor. 00:24:53.32\00:24:54.62 So yeah, that is a difficult situation, but there is hope. 00:24:54.66\00:24:57.89 Alden: Also if you go to--if you actually attend church, Anthony, 00:24:57.93\00:25:01.76 maybe talk to the pastor and get some counseling with the pastor, 00:25:01.80\00:25:05.27 not just you but also with your wife too. 00:25:05.30\00:25:07.87 But we have a pocketbook on this called "The Bible on Marriage, 00:25:07.90\00:25:11.24 Divorce, and Remarriage." 00:25:11.27\00:25:13.21 And you can get that book if you call 1-800-835-6747. 00:25:13.24\00:25:18.55 And thank you for the call, Anthony. 00:25:18.58\00:25:19.91 Jëan: That is a great resource, just to add. 00:25:19.95\00:25:21.25 That's a fairly newer book, "Marriage, Divorce, and 00:25:21.28\00:25:23.42 Remarriage," and it gives all the Scriptures there and gives 00:25:23.45\00:25:26.22 the additional details. 00:25:26.25\00:25:27.76 Thank you, Anthony. 00:25:27.79\00:25:29.09 Who do we have next? 00:25:29.12\00:25:30.46 Alden: We have Ryan in New Mexico and he's got a question 00:25:30.49\00:25:32.09 in regards to the name Yahweh. 00:25:32.13\00:25:34.10 Jëan: Hi, Ryan. 00:25:34.13\00:25:35.43 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:25:35.46\00:25:36.77 Ryan: How are you doing tonight, guys? 00:25:36.80\00:25:38.13 Jëan: We're doing great. Thanks for calling. 00:25:38.17\00:25:40.84 Ryan: Well, my question is, is Jesus Yahweh? 00:25:40.87\00:25:43.91 And when I say Yahweh I'm talking about, you know, they 00:25:43.94\00:25:47.04 changed the name over 6,000 times, you know, out of 00:25:47.08\00:25:51.45 tradition, out of man-made tradition to the LORD, all 00:25:51.48\00:25:55.15 capitals, or GOD, all capitals, but the original said Yahweh. 00:25:55.18\00:25:59.12 And I'm just wondering, is Jesus Yahweh? 00:25:59.15\00:26:02.22 Jëan: Okay. Well, a good question. 00:26:02.26\00:26:04.93 Well, first of all, about the word Yahweh, we're not exactly 00:26:04.96\00:26:07.66 sure of the pronunciation, and here's why. 00:26:07.66\00:26:09.70 In the Hebrew Old Testament when it came to the name of God, they 00:26:09.73\00:26:12.87 didn't put down the vowels. 00:26:12.90\00:26:15.37 They had the consonants, but the vowels, it was such a sacred 00:26:15.40\00:26:18.51 name that they didn't spell it out fully. 00:26:18.54\00:26:22.38 So the best we could tell, it's possibly connected to Yahweh, 00:26:22.41\00:26:26.58 would be a good--at least a best understanding that we have 00:26:26.61\00:26:30.12 of that. 00:26:30.15\00:26:31.45 Is the name Yahweh referring to Jesus? 00:26:31.49\00:26:33.32 I think it is, and here's why. 00:26:33.36\00:26:35.19 When Moses appeared--well, God appeared to Moses at the burning 00:26:35.22\00:26:38.56 bush, and Moses said, "Well, what's Your name?" 00:26:38.59\00:26:41.60 God said, "I Am that I Am." 00:26:41.63\00:26:43.73 And that's sort of this name given of God. 00:26:43.77\00:26:47.17 Jesus in the New Testament refers to Himself and says, 00:26:47.20\00:26:51.14 "I Am." 00:26:51.17\00:26:52.47 Refers to Himself as before Moses was, before Abraham, 00:26:52.51\00:26:54.41 "I Am." 00:26:54.44\00:26:55.74 So that name is associated with Jesus. 00:26:55.78\00:26:59.08 Lord, Yahweh, Jehovah, there's different pronunciations of 00:26:59.11\00:27:03.22 that, but it's a name referring to God. 00:27:03.25\00:27:05.92 And in the Old Testament, yes, Jesus used that name as well. 00:27:05.95\00:27:09.69 So I think that's pretty clear from Scripture. 00:27:09.72\00:27:12.16 Well, friends, you hear the music in the background. 00:27:12.19\00:27:13.63 It's not the end of the program. 00:27:13.66\00:27:15.00 We're coming up on the best part of "Bible Answers Live." 00:27:15.03\00:27:17.93 We're just taking a short break, some important announcements. 00:27:17.97\00:27:20.37 So don't go too far. 00:27:20.40\00:27:21.87 We'll be right back. 00:27:21.90\00:27:23.41 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:26.78\00:27:28.11 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:28.14\00:27:30.21 announcer: Does your heart burn for a better purpose? Yes. 00:31:36.06\00:31:39.63 Thank you, Pastor Alden. 00:31:39.66\00:31:40.96 It's been a while since last you were here, but we are glad you 00:31:41.00\00:31:42.83 are here. 00:31:42.86\00:31:44.20 You know, we were just talking to a caller, the previous caller 00:31:44.23\00:31:45.80 before the break, about the names of God, and he asked 00:31:45.83\00:31:48.67 specifically about Yahweh and Jehovah that we find. 00:31:48.70\00:31:51.84 We have a book. 00:31:51.87\00:31:53.21 Alden: It's called "The Name of God." 00:31:53.24\00:31:54.64 And you can get that book if you call 1-800-835-6747 and ask for 00:31:54.68\00:31:59.81 that book "The Name of God." 00:31:59.85\00:32:02.38 We have David from Virginia. 00:32:02.42\00:32:05.09 He's got a question about the Sabbath. 00:32:05.12\00:32:07.09 Jëan: Hi, David. 00:32:07.12\00:32:08.46 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:32:08.49\00:32:09.79 You're on the air. 00:32:09.82\00:32:11.16 David: Hello, pastors. 00:32:11.19\00:32:12.49 Happy to be here. 00:32:12.53\00:32:13.83 Jëan: Yeah, thanks for calling. 00:32:13.86\00:32:15.16 David: So my question is--so I'm 18 and my grandfather is a 00:32:15.20\00:32:20.14 Southern Baptist pastor. 00:32:20.17\00:32:22.27 And me and my family, my--with my dad, you know, we started 00:32:22.30\00:32:25.21 keeping the Sabbath. 00:32:25.24\00:32:26.61 And I'd like to know what would be the best way to share with 00:32:26.64\00:32:31.18 him about the Sabbath. 00:32:31.21\00:32:32.61 You know, it's solemnity that we are to still keep it even after, 00:32:32.65\00:32:37.75 you know, Jesus, you know, was resurrected. 00:32:37.79\00:32:40.82 Jëan: Yes, yes. 00:32:40.86\00:32:42.16 Good question. 00:32:42.19\00:32:43.53 Yes, how do we share the truth specifically about the Sabbath? 00:32:43.56\00:32:45.66 And so you talking about sharing the truth with others who are 00:32:45.69\00:32:48.53 Christians, who are already members of a church. 00:32:48.56\00:32:52.67 Well, there's several things. 00:32:52.70\00:32:54.00 First of all, you want to be the best example that you can be. 00:32:54.04\00:32:56.30 So, first of all, by keeping the Sabbath, you setting an example, 00:32:56.34\00:33:00.94 that often will raise questions, where someone will ask and say, 00:33:00.98\00:33:03.98 "Well, that's a little odd. 00:33:04.01\00:33:05.31 You know, why are you keeping the Sabbath? 00:33:05.35\00:33:07.05 I thought that was done away with." 00:33:07.08\00:33:08.38 And that does give you an opportunity to share, as you 00:33:08.42\00:33:11.22 faithfully keep the Sabbath. 00:33:11.25\00:33:12.92 If the person is open to learning more, you can maybe 00:33:12.95\00:33:15.96 share with them some resources. 00:33:15.99\00:33:17.46 And Amazing Facts has some wonderful resources. 00:33:17.49\00:33:20.06 There is a website that Amazing Facts has 00:33:20.10\00:33:22.36 called sabbathtruth.com. 00:33:22.40\00:33:24.90 Just sabbathtruth.com. 00:33:24.93\00:33:27.04 It's got all the Scriptures there. 00:33:27.07\00:33:28.54 It's got some wonderful resources. 00:33:28.57\00:33:30.11 It's got some video content. 00:33:30.14\00:33:31.91 You can even share a YouTube video if your grandfather is 00:33:31.94\00:33:35.14 open to watching something on that. 00:33:35.18\00:33:37.81 There is a lot of excellent information on that subject of 00:33:37.85\00:33:40.95 the Sabbath. 00:33:40.98\00:33:42.28 And, you know, there are many Christians from different 00:33:42.32\00:33:44.02 denominations that are beginning to discover the truths of 00:33:44.05\00:33:47.06 the Sabbath. 00:33:47.09\00:33:48.59 It--as if there's a revival of folks realizing, "Well, the Ten 00:33:48.62\00:33:52.29 Commandments are still ten, not nine. 00:33:52.33\00:33:54.40 So why do we ignore the fourth commandment? 00:33:54.46\00:33:57.03 How does that apply to our life?" 00:33:57.07\00:33:58.70 So by your own example you want to do the best you can, when 00:33:58.73\00:34:02.47 opportunity arises you want to be able to give a passage of 00:34:02.50\00:34:05.47 Scripture to help support the truth, and then if they willing, 00:34:05.51\00:34:10.68 share resources, whether that is a piece of literature or maybe 00:34:10.71\00:34:14.68 directing to a video that they can watch that'll give 00:34:14.72\00:34:17.29 more information. 00:34:17.32\00:34:18.69 So blessings, David, in your work of sharing our Bible truth. 00:34:18.72\00:34:22.32 Alden: David, I would encourage you, call in to the number 00:34:22.36\00:34:25.89 1-800-835-6747 and ask for the book "Why God Said Remember." 00:34:25.93\00:34:32.47 There's a reason why He said remember, because He knew we 00:34:32.50\00:34:36.10 would forget. 00:34:36.14\00:34:37.44 Jëan: That's right. 00:34:37.47\00:34:38.81 And that's a great resource. 00:34:38.84\00:34:40.14 Alden: All right, we have Carol in California. 00:34:40.18\00:34:41.51 She's got a question regarding good and evil. 00:34:41.54\00:34:43.21 Carol, you there? 00:34:43.24\00:34:44.58 Carol: Yes, I'm here. 00:34:44.61\00:34:45.91 Good evening, pastors. 00:34:45.95\00:34:47.42 Thank you for taking my call. Hello. 00:34:47.45\00:34:49.98 Jëan: Welcome. 00:34:50.02\00:34:51.35 Yeah, thanks for calling. 00:34:51.39\00:34:52.69 Carol: Yes. 00:34:52.72\00:34:54.02 I have been struggling about this and I just want to have a 00:34:54.06\00:34:56.96 better understanding between good and evil. 00:34:56.99\00:35:00.93 Where do we draw the line between good and evil, or in 00:35:00.96\00:35:05.60 other words, what is the determining factor between good 00:35:05.63\00:35:11.34 and evil? 00:35:11.37\00:35:12.71 Jëan: So good question. 00:35:12.74\00:35:14.04 Often we face choices and we trying to decide, "Well, what's 00:35:14.08\00:35:17.05 the right path? 00:35:17.08\00:35:18.38 What's the right decision for me to make in this case?" 00:35:18.41\00:35:20.92 The first thing you want to do is look at the principle. 00:35:20.95\00:35:23.72 So does that principle line up with Scripture? 00:35:23.75\00:35:27.42 If the principle conflicts with one of the commandments, if it 00:35:27.46\00:35:30.99 is a principle that contradicts the Scriptures, well, then the 00:35:31.03\00:35:34.10 answer is pretty clear. 00:35:34.10\00:35:35.50 You know, the Bible says, "To the law and to the testimony," 00:35:35.53\00:35:38.43 this is Isaiah, "if they speak not according to this, there is 00:35:38.47\00:35:41.44 no light in them." 00:35:41.47\00:35:42.77 So any teaching, any idea, any decision that needs to be made, 00:35:42.80\00:35:47.71 it needs to first of all be in harmony with Scripture, but 00:35:47.74\00:35:50.41 there are many decisions that are in harmony with the 00:35:50.45\00:35:52.45 principles of Scripture and we still not quite sure which way 00:35:52.48\00:35:55.52 to go. 00:35:55.55\00:35:56.89 The second step is then to seek Christian counsel. 00:35:56.92\00:35:59.75 So if there are Christians maybe in your church or family, it's 00:35:59.79\00:36:03.39 wise to say, "You know, here's the situation I'm facing. 00:36:03.43\00:36:06.43 What do you think? 00:36:06.46\00:36:07.76 What guidance can you give me?" 00:36:07.76\00:36:09.10 And be open to listen to different thoughts that people 00:36:09.13\00:36:11.87 might have. 00:36:11.90\00:36:13.20 Of course, make it a matter of prayer and pray and say, "Lord, 00:36:13.23\00:36:16.40 I want to do what's right. 00:36:16.44\00:36:18.11 I don't want to fall into the trap of making a bad decision, 00:36:18.14\00:36:20.78 so please guide." 00:36:20.81\00:36:22.21 And then pray that He would open and close doors according to 00:36:22.24\00:36:25.11 His providence. 00:36:25.15\00:36:26.55 So God is able to close doors, He's able to open doors, He's 00:36:26.58\00:36:29.62 able to guide us. 00:36:29.65\00:36:30.99 And then trust His leading. 00:36:31.02\00:36:32.59 So those would be the principles you want to follow. 00:36:32.62\00:36:34.82 You want to make sure the principles are correct, lined up 00:36:34.86\00:36:37.66 with Scripture. 00:36:37.69\00:36:39.03 Seek the guidance of godly people. 00:36:39.06\00:36:42.60 Pray. 00:36:42.63\00:36:43.97 Make it a matter of prayer, and then pray that God would open 00:36:44.00\00:36:46.57 and close doors according to His will. 00:36:46.60\00:36:49.14 So those are the steps you want to follow. 00:36:49.17\00:36:50.81 We do have a book. 00:36:50.84\00:36:52.17 It's called "Determining the Will of God" and it outlines 00:36:52.21\00:36:55.21 these principles and gives more details on that. 00:36:55.24\00:36:58.05 Alden: Wonderful. 00:36:58.08\00:36:59.41 You can get that, Carol, if you call 1-800-835-6747 and ask for 00:36:59.45\00:37:03.95 that book. 00:37:03.99\00:37:05.29 We also have now Mary also in California. 00:37:05.32\00:37:07.69 She's got a question about Matthew 21. 00:37:07.72\00:37:09.79 Mary. 00:37:09.82\00:37:11.13 Mary: Yes. 00:37:11.16\00:37:12.46 What does it mean to be broken on the rock, was Christ? 00:37:12.49\00:37:15.06 Jëan: Okay. 00:37:15.10\00:37:16.40 Yes, let me read the verse. 00:37:16.43\00:37:17.77 I think you're referring to Matthew 21, verse 44. 00:37:17.80\00:37:21.14 And you know what? 00:37:21.17\00:37:22.50 Maybe I will just read the verse. 00:37:22.54\00:37:26.14 Let me start in verse 42 for those who might be driving and 00:37:26.17\00:37:28.84 get the context of the question. 00:37:28.88\00:37:30.75 "Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read the Scriptures: "The 00:37:30.78\00:37:33.55 stone which the builders rejected has become the 00:37:33.58\00:37:35.68 chief cornerstone. 00:37:35.72\00:37:36.95 This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes." 00:37:36.99\00:37:39.99 Therefore I say unto you, the kingdom of God will be taken 00:37:40.02\00:37:42.16 from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.'" 00:37:42.19\00:37:45.39 And He's talking to the religious leaders here. 00:37:45.43\00:37:47.40 "And whoever falls upon this stone will be broken; but on 00:37:47.46\00:37:51.47 whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." 00:37:51.50\00:37:54.60 This is a great prophecy. 00:37:54.64\00:37:56.57 But let me just back up a little bit. 00:37:56.60\00:37:58.31 Jesus talks about the stone that the builders rejected has become 00:37:58.34\00:38:01.68 the chief cornerstone. 00:38:01.71\00:38:03.01 There's a little story connected with this. 00:38:03.04\00:38:04.68 In the building of the temple, in Solomon's temple, you 00:38:04.71\00:38:07.78 remember the story in Scripture, all of the stones that were used 00:38:07.82\00:38:10.49 in the construction of Solomon's temple were actually--they were 00:38:10.52\00:38:14.72 quarried off-site. 00:38:14.76\00:38:16.09 So they got the dimensions and they dug the stone or carved out 00:38:16.12\00:38:19.73 the stone. 00:38:19.76\00:38:21.03 And they had it made so it would fit perfect, so it could just 00:38:21.06\00:38:23.37 slide it into place when it actually came to the 00:38:23.40\00:38:25.27 construction of the temple. 00:38:25.30\00:38:26.87 There was a very important cornerstone that would bear a 00:38:26.90\00:38:29.20 lot of weight and it was sent from the quarry to the actual 00:38:29.24\00:38:32.64 building site where they were going to build the temple. 00:38:32.67\00:38:35.58 And at first people didn't quite know what the stone was for. 00:38:35.61\00:38:38.18 It didn't seem to fit in anything that they were working 00:38:38.21\00:38:40.45 on at the moment. 00:38:40.48\00:38:41.82 So they kind of just set it off to the side. 00:38:41.85\00:38:43.35 It was a bit of a stumbling stone. 00:38:43.39\00:38:44.95 It was kind of in the way. 00:38:44.99\00:38:46.35 But when it came time to put in a cornerstone, this chief 00:38:46.39\00:38:49.36 cornerstone, they were looking around for the right stone that 00:38:49.39\00:38:53.43 had extra strength and the right angle and the cut, and it was 00:38:53.46\00:38:56.80 that stumbling stone, but it fit just perfectly. 00:38:56.83\00:39:00.30 And that kind of became the chief cornerstone, and it's a 00:39:00.34\00:39:03.27 symbol of Christ. 00:39:03.30\00:39:04.61 The church is to be built on Jesus the chief cornerstone. 00:39:04.64\00:39:08.58 And so that's what Christ is referring to there. 00:39:08.61\00:39:10.71 But then in verse 44, more specifically on your question, 00:39:10.75\00:39:13.82 Jesus said, "Whoever falls upon this stone will be broken; but 00:39:13.85\00:39:16.85 on whom it falls, it'll grind him to powder." 00:39:16.89\00:39:19.72 The stone there is a reference to Christ. 00:39:19.75\00:39:21.99 If we fall upon Jesus and we confess our sins and we humble 00:39:22.02\00:39:25.46 our hearts, yes, we will be broken, but we will be healed, 00:39:25.49\00:39:29.06 we'll be made whole, we'll be restored, but if we reject and 00:39:29.10\00:39:33.07 we rebel against Christ, it talks about a stone falling upon 00:39:33.10\00:39:37.41 us and grinding us to powder. 00:39:37.44\00:39:38.91 Now, that imagery comes from Daniel chapter 2. In Daniel 00:39:38.94\00:39:42.61 chapter 2, Nebuchadnezzar has a dream and he sees this image 00:39:42.64\00:39:45.75 with all these different metals, and then a stone comes and 00:39:45.78\00:39:48.65 strikes the image upon its feet and grinds the metals to powder, 00:39:48.68\00:39:52.72 and the wind blows it away, and the stone grows and becomes a 00:39:52.75\00:39:55.12 great mountain that fills the whole earth. 00:39:55.16\00:39:57.29 That stone striking the image represents the second coming 00:39:57.33\00:40:00.23 of Christ. 00:40:00.26\00:40:01.73 So when Jesus says: whoever the stone falls upon it'll grind him 00:40:01.76\00:40:06.43 to powder, that is a reference to Daniel chapter 2 and it's a 00:40:06.47\00:40:09.77 reference to judgment that is coming upon those who reject, 00:40:09.80\00:40:13.78 those who refuse to humble their hearts and come to Jesus 00:40:13.81\00:40:16.85 for salvation. 00:40:16.88\00:40:18.21 It's a great study. 00:40:18.25\00:40:19.55 There's a lot more we can say about it, but that's sort of 00:40:19.58\00:40:22.08 caps, I think, these key questions. 00:40:22.12\00:40:24.25 Alden: Don't we have the magazine 00:40:24.29\00:40:25.59 "Daniel and Revelation?" 00:40:25.62\00:40:26.92 Jëan: We do have a--that's right. 00:40:26.96\00:40:28.19 We have a magazine that talks about Daniel chapter 2 and the 00:40:28.22\00:40:30.93 stone cutter without hands. 00:40:30.96\00:40:32.33 Alden: Right. 00:40:32.36\00:40:33.70 And that's called the "Daniel and Revelation" magazine. 00:40:33.73\00:40:35.10 You can get that magazine if you call 1-800-867-8--sorry. 00:40:35.13\00:40:40.17 835-6747. 00:40:40.20\00:40:42.77 Chris has got a question about taxes in Texas. 00:40:42.80\00:40:45.71 Jëan: Okay. Hey, Chris. 00:40:45.74\00:40:48.41 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:40:48.44\00:40:49.74 Chris: Thank you. 00:40:49.78\00:40:51.11 So my question refers to taxes and tithes. 00:40:51.15\00:40:52.45 Jëan: Okay. 00:40:52.48\00:40:53.78 Chris: Should I be adding the tithe receipt that I get from my 00:40:53.82\00:40:56.02 church to that? 00:40:56.05\00:40:57.39 And then when I get my tax return, do I pay a tithe on my 00:40:57.42\00:41:00.92 actual tax return as well? 00:41:00.96\00:41:02.56 Jëan: Okay. 00:41:02.59\00:41:03.93 Well, a good question. 00:41:03.96\00:41:05.19 The receipt that you get from your church--your donations to 00:41:05.23\00:41:08.30 the church is actually tax-deductible, and that's why 00:41:08.33\00:41:10.97 you get a receipt that comes from the church. 00:41:11.00\00:41:13.77 There are laws in the United States. 00:41:13.80\00:41:15.70 It's not in all countries, but the United States does have 00:41:15.74\00:41:18.17 certain laws that any charitable donation which includes to a 00:41:18.21\00:41:23.68 church is tax-deductible. 00:41:23.71\00:41:25.51 So you can remove from your taxes that portion. 00:41:25.55\00:41:30.72 Do you pay taxes on your tax returns if funds come back 00:41:30.75\00:41:34.32 to you? 00:41:34.36\00:41:35.66 Typically not because usually you pay tax--you pay your tithe 00:41:35.69\00:41:38.93 at the beginning of your income. 00:41:38.96\00:41:42.16 When you receive your paycheck you want to pay your tax 00:41:42.20\00:41:44.83 right--I mean, you want to pay your tithe. 00:41:44.87\00:41:46.20 You want to pay your tithe right away. 00:41:46.23\00:41:47.97 Usually your employee will withhold taxes. 00:41:48.00\00:41:50.87 So usually if you paying on the gross on everything, you've 00:41:50.91\00:41:54.34 already technically paid tithe on your taxes, and then the 00:41:54.38\00:41:58.88 return has already been taxed. 00:41:58.91\00:42:00.62 If you don't pay on your taxes, then yes, you'd want to pay 00:42:00.65\00:42:04.65 a tax--tax. 00:42:04.69\00:42:06.09 You want to pay a tithe, excuse me, on your tax return. 00:42:06.12\00:42:09.52 So hopefully that helps, Chris. Yes. 00:42:09.56\00:42:12.33 Alden: It's a good thing you didn't talk about Texas too 00:42:12.36\00:42:13.86 because Texas and taxes would be-- 00:42:13.90\00:42:16.56 Jëan: Yeah, that would be fun. 00:42:16.60\00:42:17.93 Do you pay taxes in Texas? 00:42:17.97\00:42:19.27 Do you pay state tax? 00:42:19.30\00:42:21.07 I know some states you don't have to. 00:42:21.10\00:42:22.40 Alden: No state income tax. 00:42:22.44\00:42:23.77 Jëan: Okay. 00:42:23.81\00:42:25.11 Alden: That was the blessing about being there. 00:42:25.14\00:42:26.47 Jëan: Yeah, all right. 00:42:26.51\00:42:27.81 Alden: But yeah. 00:42:27.84\00:42:29.14 Jëan: That's not the case in California. 00:42:29.18\00:42:30.51 Alden: Not the case. 00:42:30.55\00:42:31.85 There's taxes on everything, even the air you breathe. 00:42:31.88\00:42:33.21 Jëan: That's right. 00:42:33.25\00:42:34.55 Alden: Phyllis. 00:42:34.58\00:42:35.92 We have Phyllis, first-time caller. 00:42:35.95\00:42:37.25 Phyllis in Arizona. 00:42:37.29\00:42:38.62 Are you there, Phyllis? 00:42:38.65\00:42:39.95 Thanks for calling. 00:42:39.99\00:42:41.32 Phyllis: Yes, I am. Thank you. 00:42:41.36\00:42:44.03 My question tonight is in the Gospel of John 14 chapter, 3. 00:42:44.06\00:42:49.43 Jesus said, "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will 00:42:49.46\00:42:53.97 come again and receive you unto Me--un--receive you unto Myself; 00:42:54.00\00:42:58.67 that where I Am, there ye may be also." 00:42:58.71\00:43:02.58 My question, just curiosity, why did Jesus say if? 00:43:02.61\00:43:08.55 When I say if, well, then I might do something and I 00:43:08.58\00:43:12.75 might not. 00:43:12.79\00:43:14.09 But Jesus said if. 00:43:14.12\00:43:15.46 Jëan: Okay. Good question. 00:43:15.49\00:43:18.16 The if in the verse applies to the previous statement. 00:43:18.19\00:43:21.26 For example, if you read in verse 1, He says, "Let not your 00:43:21.30\00:43:23.70 hearts be troubled. 00:43:23.73\00:43:25.07 You believe in God, believe also in Me. 00:43:25.10\00:43:27.64 In My Father's house there are many mansions. 00:43:27.67\00:43:29.84 If it were not so, I would have told you. 00:43:29.87\00:43:31.51 I go to prepare a place for you." 00:43:31.54\00:43:32.91 In other words, Jesus is saying to His disciples, "If you 00:43:32.94\00:43:35.71 believe in the Father, then you need to believe that I'm going 00:43:35.74\00:43:39.55 to go and prepare a place for you. 00:43:39.58\00:43:41.22 If you don't believe in the Father, well, I'm not going to 00:43:41.25\00:43:44.99 prepare a place for you." 00:43:45.02\00:43:46.32 Remember the preparation of the place in heaven is for 00:43:46.35\00:43:48.89 the saved. 00:43:48.92\00:43:50.26 It's for those who believe in Jesus, those who believe in God 00:43:50.29\00:43:53.33 or believe in the Father. 00:43:53.36\00:43:54.93 So if we believe in God, we have the promise that He will prepare 00:43:54.93\00:43:59.27 a place for us. 00:43:59.30\00:44:00.67 If we don't believe in God, then there is no place prepared for 00:44:00.70\00:44:04.41 us in heaven. 00:44:04.44\00:44:05.74 Does that help, Phyllis? 00:44:05.77\00:44:07.11 Phyllis: Yes. 00:44:07.14\00:44:08.38 I absolutely believe what the Bible says, but I guess it was 00:44:08.41\00:44:13.38 just out of curiosity. 00:44:13.42\00:44:14.75 I wonder why He said if. 00:44:14.78\00:44:16.18 Yeah. 00:44:16.22\00:44:17.52 Jëan: The if is for those who believe. 00:44:17.55\00:44:19.09 If they don't believe, they won't have a place. 00:44:19.12\00:44:21.26 If they do believe, they will have a place. 00:44:21.29\00:44:22.89 Phyllis: Okay, okay. 00:44:22.92\00:44:25.13 And also if you have information on why we shouldn't eat pork. 00:44:25.16\00:44:31.93 Jëan: Okay. 00:44:31.97\00:44:33.27 Well, we-- 00:44:33.30\00:44:34.64 Phyllis: Because I have several people that, "No, I 00:44:34.67\00:44:36.20 don't eat pork," and they wonder why. 00:44:36.24\00:44:39.21 Jëan: They wonder why. 00:44:39.24\00:44:40.54 All right, good question. 00:44:40.58\00:44:41.91 Well, we do have some material. 00:44:41.94\00:44:43.24 It's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:44:43.28\00:44:44.61 It's one of our Amazing Facts' study guides. 00:44:44.65\00:44:47.18 We also have a book, I think, that's entitled, at least it 00:44:47.22\00:44:50.79 was, "Death in the Kitchen." 00:44:50.82\00:44:52.32 It's kind of got an intriguing title. 00:44:52.35\00:44:53.99 Talks about food. 00:44:54.02\00:44:55.46 Now, of course, you know, pork is probably one of the most 00:44:55.49\00:44:58.49 unhealthy meats that one could eat. 00:44:58.53\00:45:00.23 The Bible in the Old Testament and also in the New Testament 00:45:00.26\00:45:02.86 refers to unclean foods, and pork would fall into 00:45:02.90\00:45:06.74 that category. 00:45:06.77\00:45:08.10 Pigs are unclean. 00:45:08.14\00:45:09.44 And the biblical principle for a clean meat or an unclean meat 00:45:09.47\00:45:14.24 has to do with whether the animal has cloven hooves, 00:45:14.28\00:45:17.41 divided hooves, and chews the cud. 00:45:17.45\00:45:20.18 So a cow or a sheep, they have divided hooves, they chew the 00:45:20.22\00:45:23.32 cud, but a pig does not chew the cud, even though it might have a 00:45:23.35\00:45:27.59 cloven hoove. 00:45:27.62\00:45:28.92 Camels chew the cud, but they don't have a hoove, so 00:45:28.96\00:45:31.53 they're unclean. 00:45:31.56\00:45:32.89 And then there are also principles applying to the fish 00:45:32.93\00:45:34.83 as well. 00:45:34.83\00:45:36.13 But call and ask for that study guide. 00:45:36.16\00:45:37.47 It's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:45:37.50\00:45:38.87 It'll put all the verses there and provide some 00:45:38.90\00:45:41.47 additional information. 00:45:41.50\00:45:42.74 Alden: And that whole scenario of what you can eat and can't 00:45:42.77\00:45:45.27 eat is found in Leviticus 11, in case you haven't 00:45:45.31\00:45:48.11 read that before. 00:45:48.14\00:45:50.08 You can always get them to refer to that. 00:45:50.11\00:45:52.18 So thank you for your call, Phyllis. 00:45:52.21\00:45:54.22 Paul in South Dakota has a good question regarding Bible study 00:45:54.25\00:45:58.62 and becoming a member, but yet living a certain way. 00:45:58.65\00:46:02.12 Jëan: Hey, Paul. 00:46:02.16\00:46:03.49 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:46:03.53\00:46:04.83 Paul: Yes. Thank you, brothers. 00:46:04.86\00:46:07.50 God bless you. 00:46:07.56\00:46:08.86 So my scenario that I've thought in my mind is if a man and a 00:46:08.90\00:46:12.87 woman are living together and they decide they want Bible 00:46:12.90\00:46:17.87 studies, and they come to your church or contact you somehow, 00:46:17.91\00:46:22.44 and you set up, you know, a time for them to study with, and 00:46:22.48\00:46:27.05 during the course of the studies you find out that they're not 00:46:27.08\00:46:29.62 married and that they're in an intimate relationship. 00:46:29.65\00:46:34.12 Would they be able to be baptized at the end of 00:46:34.16\00:46:37.39 the studies? 00:46:37.43\00:46:38.73 Jëan: Okay. Well, that's a good question. 00:46:38.76\00:46:41.40 That's a real-life situation that I have faced in my 00:46:41.43\00:46:42.90 ministry, and I'm sure Pastor Alden has faced that too. 00:46:42.93\00:46:46.03 If we meet with someone or a couple and we do Bible studies 00:46:46.07\00:46:48.97 with them, during the Bible study it becomes pretty clear 00:46:49.00\00:46:52.37 what God's ideal is, and God's ideal is for marriage. 00:46:52.41\00:46:56.24 So if two people are living together and they're not 00:46:56.28\00:46:58.81 married, well, then they need to get married. 00:46:58.85\00:47:00.82 So there have been times in the work that I've been doing where 00:47:00.85\00:47:04.12 I have married, you know, a man and a woman and baptized them. 00:47:04.15\00:47:08.62 Married them one day and baptized them a week later. 00:47:08.66\00:47:11.79 So we want to make sure that we do everything we can before we 00:47:11.83\00:47:15.33 are baptized to set our lives in water. 00:47:15.36\00:47:18.40 Doesn't mean we perfect, but the clear principles of faith we 00:47:18.43\00:47:22.20 want to embrace, we want to be faithful. 00:47:22.24\00:47:24.21 And so it's important for a person to first work that out 00:47:24.24\00:47:27.78 before they are baptized. 00:47:27.81\00:47:30.05 And that's usually the path that we follow. 00:47:30.08\00:47:32.35 Alden: And we have lesson number five in our Bible study guide 00:47:32.38\00:47:35.98 called "Keys For a Happy Marriage," and that would be 00:47:36.02\00:47:38.79 very helpful to pass on to them as you're studying with them 00:47:38.82\00:47:42.39 as well. 00:47:42.42\00:47:43.73 And let's see. 00:47:43.76\00:47:45.09 We have Rachel in Arizona talking about the Ark of 00:47:45.13\00:47:48.80 the Covenant. 00:47:48.83\00:47:50.13 Rachel, are you there? 00:47:50.17\00:47:51.50 Rachel: Thank you. 00:47:51.53\00:47:52.83 So my question is, does Bible Scripture disclose the location 00:47:52.87\00:47:56.50 of the Ark of the Covenant? 00:47:56.54\00:47:59.04 Jëan: Okay. 00:47:59.07\00:48:00.44 It doesn't clearly tell us where the ark is. 00:48:00.48\00:48:03.04 It would kind of be nice if it did 'cause we could go find it, 00:48:03.08\00:48:06.35 but it's--from just the historical account, the Ark of 00:48:06.38\00:48:10.72 the Covenant was removed from the temple in Jerusalem most 00:48:10.75\00:48:14.16 likely by Jeremiah the prophet before the Babylonian captivity. 00:48:14.19\00:48:18.13 And that occurred around 600 BC, 600 years Before Christ. 00:48:18.16\00:48:22.56 So Jeremiah knew that the Babylonians were coming, 00:48:22.60\00:48:25.67 Nebuchadnezzar was coming. 00:48:25.70\00:48:27.00 He knew that the city would eventually fall. 00:48:27.04\00:48:29.07 He prophesized about that event. 00:48:29.10\00:48:32.24 He was in Jerusalem during that time period and when Jerusalem 00:48:32.27\00:48:35.14 actually did fall. 00:48:35.18\00:48:36.48 So it's quite possible that Jeremiah and some of the other 00:48:36.51\00:48:39.28 priests, knowing that the city was going to fall, they hid the 00:48:39.31\00:48:43.52 Ark of the Covenant in one of the many caves around Jerusalem. 00:48:43.55\00:48:48.79 And it's still there today. 00:48:48.82\00:48:50.86 Now, after the 7 years of Babylonian captivity when the 00:48:50.89\00:48:53.33 Jews came back from Babylon and they started to rebuild the 00:48:53.36\00:48:55.80 temple, it was a time of instability, there was political 00:48:55.83\00:49:00.60 unrest by the nations around them, and they didn't feel, at 00:49:00.64\00:49:04.17 least at first, to bring the temple back--or bring the ark 00:49:04.21\00:49:07.54 back into the temple. 00:49:07.58\00:49:09.08 It could very well be that some who hid it at that point had 00:49:09.11\00:49:11.81 forgotten where it was, they didn't know where it was. 00:49:11.85\00:49:14.18 But after the Babylonian captivity, the Ark of the 00:49:14.22\00:49:16.99 Covenant never made it back in the temple. 00:49:17.02\00:49:19.02 Even in the time of Christ the Ark of the Covenant was not in 00:49:19.05\00:49:22.36 the most holy place of the temple. 00:49:22.39\00:49:25.06 And it's still hidden somewhere today. 00:49:25.09\00:49:27.46 And hopefully they will find it before the end of time, before 00:49:27.50\00:49:30.90 Jesus comes. 00:49:30.93\00:49:32.23 It would be kind of neat to see the Ark of the Covenant. 00:49:32.27\00:49:34.24 That will be the biggest archaeological discovery of all. 00:49:34.27\00:49:37.04 Alden: We're told that it could be discovered, right? 00:49:37.07\00:49:38.91 Jëan: It seems that way, yeah. 00:49:38.94\00:49:40.34 The Bible seems--not a clear statement, but it seems to 00:49:40.38\00:49:42.98 indicate that yeah, there's a possibility that the law will 00:49:43.01\00:49:45.65 be revealed. 00:49:45.68\00:49:46.98 Alden: Hollywood's made a lot of movies on that too. 00:49:47.02\00:49:48.92 Jëan: I know. 00:49:48.95\00:49:50.25 It's a big thing. 00:49:50.29\00:49:51.62 Alden: But God has-- 00:49:51.65\00:49:52.95 Jëan: So it's not in Ethiopia, in case you've 00:49:52.99\00:49:54.32 heard people say that. 00:49:54.36\00:49:55.66 No. 00:49:55.69\00:49:56.99 It is somewhere in the vicinity of Jerusalem, hidden in one of 00:49:57.03\00:49:59.49 those caves. 00:49:59.53\00:50:01.16 Alden: We have Aaron in California, and he's got a 00:50:01.20\00:50:04.07 really good question. 00:50:04.10\00:50:05.40 Aaron, you're there? 00:50:05.43\00:50:06.77 Aaron: Yes. Can you hear me? 00:50:06.80\00:50:09.47 Jëan: Yeah. 00:50:09.50\00:50:10.81 Welcome to the program, and your question. 00:50:10.84\00:50:12.14 Aaron: Yes. 00:50:12.17\00:50:13.51 So my question is, to make it pretty quick, when Lucifer was 00:50:13.54\00:50:15.68 in heaven, right, he did certain things that to--that literally 00:50:15.71\00:50:21.18 went against God, and God literally bore along 00:50:21.22\00:50:24.02 with Lucifer. 00:50:24.05\00:50:25.52 Why was it that when Lucifer sinned that he didn't need a 00:50:25.55\00:50:29.96 Savior in comparison to when Adam sinned? 00:50:29.99\00:50:33.93 If Adam had went to Jesus and said, "God, I'm sorry," that 00:50:33.96\00:50:38.23 wouldn't be enough because his character was mauled or, you 00:50:38.27\00:50:41.64 know, diminished. 00:50:41.67\00:50:42.97 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, right? 00:50:43.00\00:50:45.47 So why didn't Lucifer--why would it be that Lucifer would have 00:50:45.51\00:50:50.41 just gotten a free pass back into heaven if he sincerely 00:50:50.45\00:50:53.45 repented while he was there, but Adam needed a Savior? 00:50:53.48\00:50:57.12 Jëan: All right. Good question. 00:50:57.15\00:50:59.82 Now, Revelation chapter 12 talks about a war in heaven. 00:50:59.85\00:51:01.79 So we know that Lucifer, one of the covering cherubs, began to 00:51:01.82\00:51:04.49 covet God's possession. 00:51:04.53\00:51:06.13 I'm sure there were conversations that took place, 00:51:06.16\00:51:08.93 some very important conversations in heaven where 00:51:08.96\00:51:11.43 God the Father set forth the proper possession of His 00:51:11.47\00:51:14.74 Son Jesus. 00:51:14.77\00:51:16.10 And, you know, Jesus is the Creator. 00:51:16.14\00:51:19.24 He is worthy of worship. 00:51:19.27\00:51:21.01 And I'm sure the angels spoke to Lucifer and there was this 00:51:21.04\00:51:24.61 pleading going on for a period of time, but at some point 00:51:24.65\00:51:27.45 Lucifer hardened his heart and he passed the point of 00:51:27.48\00:51:30.15 no return. 00:51:30.19\00:51:32.52 There probably was a period of time where maybe he wasn't fully 00:51:32.55\00:51:37.16 rebellious, maybe he was questioning things and had he 00:51:37.19\00:51:40.56 repented of that he could have been reinstated in heaven. 00:51:40.60\00:51:44.83 Of course, in the case of Adam and Eve it's different. 00:51:44.87\00:51:48.40 When they sinned, Jesus stepped in as a substitute for them. 00:51:48.44\00:51:53.94 Lucifer rebelled in the full light of the glory of God, 00:51:53.98\00:51:57.91 whereas Adam and Eve didn't have that same understanding, that 00:51:57.95\00:52:01.12 same exposure to God's glory as Lucifer did in heaven. 00:52:01.15\00:52:04.62 We don't know how long Lucifer was in heaven before the 00:52:04.65\00:52:06.82 rebellion took place. 00:52:06.86\00:52:08.79 But God being a God of love, said, "I have a plan of 00:52:08.82\00:52:11.23 redemption to save mankind." 00:52:11.26\00:52:13.43 So how long would that door of opportunity have remained open 00:52:13.46\00:52:17.10 in heaven for Lucifer to say, "I'm sorry?" 00:52:17.13\00:52:19.37 The Bible doesn't say, but very clearly now he has passed 00:52:19.40\00:52:23.61 that point. 00:52:23.64\00:52:24.94 There is no sacrifice for Lucifer and for the 00:52:24.97\00:52:27.84 fallen angels. 00:52:27.88\00:52:29.11 Alden: You know, I was thinking too about this, because Adam, if 00:52:29.14\00:52:32.25 you read Ephesians 6, talks about he is blood and he is 00:52:32.28\00:52:36.82 flesh, where Lucifer is spiritual being. 00:52:36.85\00:52:40.32 Totally different separation from that. 00:52:40.36\00:52:43.16 Jëan: Good question. 00:52:43.19\00:52:44.53 Thank you, Aaron. Who do we have next? 00:52:44.56\00:52:47.20 Alden: We have Gus in Idaho, and Gus has got a question 00:52:47.23\00:52:48.80 regarding Matthew. 00:52:48.83\00:52:50.13 Gus: Thank you. I enjoy your guys' program. 00:52:50.17\00:52:52.57 I listen every Sunday. I'm a truck driver. 00:52:52.60\00:52:55.27 And I finally got through after I don't know how many 00:52:55.30\00:52:56.77 attempts, but-- 00:52:56.81\00:52:58.11 Jëan: Thanks for being persistent. 00:52:58.14\00:52:59.44 Gus: It must be the Lord's will. 00:52:59.47\00:53:00.94 It must be the Lord's will because I've been carrying this 00:53:00.98\00:53:02.44 burden that I don't know, it's just been--it's been tearing 00:53:02.48\00:53:04.78 me apart. 00:53:04.81\00:53:06.25 So my question is in Matthew 19:9 when the Pharisees are 00:53:06.28\00:53:10.02 trying to trap Jesus in regards to the question of marriage 00:53:10.05\00:53:14.06 and divorce. 00:53:14.09\00:53:15.32 And I know that you had another caller, I believe, earlier touch 00:53:15.36\00:53:18.29 on that, but not in detail like I want to. 00:53:18.33\00:53:22.13 But--and I'm not--I don't want to bash anybody, but there's 00:53:22.16\00:53:27.90 another Bible answer program that's a couple of slots ahead 00:53:27.94\00:53:33.34 of you guys on Sirius 131 FM. 00:53:33.38\00:53:36.38 And I called in I think a week ago to ask a different question. 00:53:36.41\00:53:39.75 And anyway to make a long story short, this gentleman reached 00:53:39.78\00:53:43.02 back out to me to do a Bible study, and we did. 00:53:43.05\00:53:45.55 And he was asking about my marriage, and I told him--well, 00:53:45.59\00:53:49.49 he asked me if it was my first marriage and my wife's first 00:53:49.52\00:53:51.73 marriage, and I told him no, it was my first marriage and my 00:53:51.76\00:53:54.83 wife's second marriage. 00:53:54.83\00:53:56.53 And he asked why my wife had divorced, and I explained to him 00:53:56.56\00:54:00.07 that her ex-husband was a heavy drug user and didn't want to 00:54:00.10\00:54:04.54 seek help, and my wife did everything she possibly could to 00:54:04.57\00:54:09.84 save the marriage, but it was not savable. 00:54:09.88\00:54:12.31 But anyway, me and my wife have been married for 25 years. 00:54:12.35\00:54:14.92 We have three beautiful daughters. 00:54:14.95\00:54:17.35 This particular gentleman told me that our marriage is an 00:54:17.39\00:54:20.72 adulterous marriage and not valid in the eyes of God, and 00:54:20.76\00:54:24.73 therefore I'm living in adultery with my wife, and I must divorce 00:54:24.76\00:54:28.33 her in order to enter into the kingdom of God. 00:54:28.36\00:54:31.37 Jëan: Well, first of all, Gus, yeah, thank you for calling. 00:54:31.40\00:54:33.87 And probably the verse he's referring to is if somebody puts 00:54:33.90\00:54:37.57 away a wife and there's no biblical grounds for that, and 00:54:37.61\00:54:41.48 she marries another, the person who marries her is guilty of 00:54:41.51\00:54:44.68 committing adultery. 00:54:44.71\00:54:46.05 However, there are exceptions to the rule. 00:54:46.08\00:54:48.68 And in the case of somebody who wasn't living a Christian life, 00:54:48.72\00:54:52.92 and then, you know, they get a divorce, and then they come to 00:54:52.95\00:54:55.96 the Lord and they repent and they ask for forgiveness, our 00:54:55.99\00:54:58.79 past sins are all forgiven. 00:54:58.83\00:55:00.83 We are free to start fresh and trust in the Lord to open the 00:55:00.86\00:55:04.43 way and lead. 00:55:04.47\00:55:05.77 It's pretty evident that, you know, you've been married for a 00:55:05.80\00:55:07.90 long time. 00:55:07.94\00:55:09.27 You're both committed. 00:55:09.30\00:55:11.04 You can ask for God's blessing upon your marriage and you can 00:55:11.07\00:55:13.71 trust that He does. 00:55:13.74\00:55:15.08 You want to do everything you can to safeguard your marriage 00:55:15.11\00:55:16.88 and protect your marriage, but you can't go back and change 00:55:16.91\00:55:20.12 the past. 00:55:20.15\00:55:21.48 And the last thing you want to do is divorce her because she's 00:55:21.52\00:55:24.29 not going to be able to go back to her first husband anyway. 00:55:24.32\00:55:27.12 So I think you just put it behind you, you pray and ask 00:55:27.16\00:55:29.59 God, "If we've done something wrong, please forgive us," and 00:55:29.62\00:55:33.36 live up to all the light that you have in the Scriptures. 00:55:33.40\00:55:36.20 You know, the book that we offered a little earlier you 00:55:36.23\00:55:38.37 might enjoy reading. 00:55:38.40\00:55:39.83 It's called "Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage." 00:55:39.87\00:55:42.94 And we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:55:42.97\00:55:46.24 We also have another study guide called "Keys to a Happy 00:55:46.27\00:55:49.08 Marriage" for those who are married and they want to make 00:55:49.11\00:55:51.05 sure that they living up to everything that God purposes for 00:55:51.08\00:55:54.42 marriage and that you want your marriage to be blessed. 00:55:54.45\00:55:57.12 There are some biblical principles, and it's called 00:55:57.15\00:55:59.55 "Keys to a Happy Marriage." 00:55:59.59\00:56:01.16 We'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:56:01.19\00:56:04.53 The number is just simply 800-835-6747, and as for that 00:56:04.56\00:56:11.10 study guide, it's called "Keys for a Happy Marriage." 00:56:11.13\00:56:13.87 And you will be blessed by reading it. 00:56:13.90\00:56:16.17 Well, you know, Pastor Alden, I'm looking at the clock. 00:56:16.20\00:56:17.81 We don't have time to take another caller just yet. 00:56:17.84\00:56:20.01 We are going to take some of your email questions in just a 00:56:20.04\00:56:23.04 moment, but before we get to that, friends, if you're 00:56:23.08\00:56:25.61 listening and you want to learn more, just visit our website. 00:56:25.65\00:56:28.48 It's this evening? 00:56:42.16\00:56:45.17 Alden: I want to tell Gus also that he can call--because he's 00:56:45.20\00:56:48.54 driving, you call #250 and you can ask for those books while 00:56:48.57\00:56:52.21 you're driving-- 00:56:52.24\00:56:53.54 Jëan: That's right. 00:56:53.58\00:56:54.88 Alden: So you don't have to type all that in. 00:56:54.91\00:56:56.58 We've got a few email questions here. 00:56:56.61\00:56:57.91 James is asking, when does Satan's impersonation or 00:56:57.95\00:57:01.55 impersonation of Christ's return occur in relationship to the 00:57:01.58\00:57:04.65 close of probation? 00:57:04.69\00:57:06.02 Would it be for the purpose of everyone's destiny to be fixed 00:57:06.05\00:57:10.83 by that time? 00:57:10.86\00:57:12.16 So is it after or before? 00:57:12.19\00:57:13.53 Jëan: Good question. 00:57:13.56\00:57:14.83 All right, so the Bible says that in the last days, Jesus 00:57:14.86\00:57:16.43 said in Matthew 24, there'll be false Christs and false 00:57:16.46\00:57:19.10 prophets, and they'll deceive, if possible, even the 00:57:19.13\00:57:21.84 very elect. 00:57:21.87\00:57:23.17 So Jesus warns His people. 00:57:23.20\00:57:25.24 Will there be a caliphate of an impersonation by the devil of 00:57:25.27\00:57:29.88 the second coming of Christ? 00:57:29.91\00:57:31.21 Yes, we believe there will be. 00:57:31.25\00:57:33.31 It kind of takes place in twofold, you might say. 00:57:33.35\00:57:35.75 There is going to be some deception before probation 00:57:35.78\00:57:37.99 closes and false Christs, plural, will appear, but there 00:57:38.02\00:57:42.59 is also going to be this masterful, great impersonation 00:57:42.62\00:57:46.16 that takes place. 00:57:46.19\00:57:47.50 It actually happens after probation closes during 00:57:47.50\00:57:49.33 the plagues. 00:57:49.36\00:57:50.67 And the purpose of that impersonation isn't to deceive 00:57:50.70\00:57:52.80 the righteous at that point, it is to try and gather the whole 00:57:52.83\00:57:56.04 world to finally pass a death decree upon God's people. 00:57:56.07\00:58:00.11 The good news is that that death decree is never carried out 00:58:00.14\00:58:03.35 because Jesus comes to their rescue. 00:58:03.38\00:58:05.61 Well, friends, that's it for today. 00:58:05.65\00:58:07.25 Until next week, God bless. 00:58:07.28\00:58:08.62 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:58:11.75\00:58:14.36 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:58:14.39\00:58:18.03 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by
