00:02:37.55\00:02:38.85 Going from billions, in a little more than a century, to none. 00:02:38.89\00:02:44.49 And it's just people thought, "Oh, well we can just wait, you 00:02:44.53\00:02:47.30 know, we'll do something later. 00:02:47.30\00:02:49.00 They'll recover." 00:02:49.03\00:02:50.43 Jëan Ross: We mentioned another animal in North America that was 00:02:50.47\00:02:53.07 very prevalent and almost went extinct. 00:02:53.10\00:02:56.50 Of course, that's the American buffalo, and they were able to 00:02:56.54\00:02:58.54 catch it in time. 00:02:58.57\00:02:59.94 But just like the buffalo that would take, you know, almost a 00:03:00.04\00:03:03.01 whole day to cross over the path in front of you, these pigeons 00:03:03.04\00:03:07.65 would darken the sky for hours as they came over. 00:03:07.68\00:03:10.25 Doug: Yeah, Audubon, the famous naturalist, he said that he saw 00:03:10.29\00:03:14.36 one flock that was a mile wide that it took several days to 00:03:14.39\00:03:17.76 pass over. 00:03:17.79\00:03:19.13 In other words, you'd wake up and they'd continue just 00:03:19.16\00:03:20.46 migrating and it was dark in the skies. 00:03:20.50\00:03:23.80 But, yeah. 00:03:23.83\00:03:25.23 They--farmers didn't like them very much 'cause they ate 00:03:25.27\00:03:27.94 seeds, but they flew so low, a farmer with a long stick could 00:03:27.97\00:03:31.67 kill, you know, dozens of them just by swinging a stick. 00:03:31.71\00:03:34.64 And then, of course, they used nets and they use guns, and they 00:03:34.68\00:03:37.08 use sulfur gas, and they said they tasted like chickens, so 00:03:37.11\00:03:41.08 they just killed them all off until pretty soon there were a 00:03:41.12\00:03:44.62 few in the zoos, and they, you know, they were not used 00:03:44.65\00:03:47.09 to captivity. 00:03:47.12\00:03:48.42 They died in captivity, and except Martha was the last one. 00:03:48.46\00:03:52.36 And they got several stuffed in the museums, but that's the only 00:03:52.39\00:03:54.86 place you can see one because they waited too long to do 00:03:54.93\00:03:59.00 something about it. 00:03:59.03\00:04:00.44 And, you know, it makes me think that there's a lot of people 00:04:00.47\00:04:03.00 that they know they can't keep living a life of sin and be 00:04:03.04\00:04:06.71 saved, and they think, "Well, one of these days 00:04:06.74\00:04:08.68 I'm going to repent. 00:04:08.71\00:04:10.75 But they wait until it's too late. 00:04:10.78\00:04:13.18 And that's the most dangerous thing you can do, friend, is to 00:04:13.21\00:04:15.88 play Russian roulette with eternity. 00:04:15.92\00:04:18.69 If you know what God's will is for you, then the best time to 00:04:18.72\00:04:22.49 listen to his voice is when you're hearing God's voice. 00:04:22.52\00:04:25.86 What is it that Paul says in Hebrews, "Today, if you hear his 00:04:25.89\00:04:29.46 voice, don't harden your heart." 00:04:29.50\00:04:31.87 Make a decision to follow the Lord and then stick to it. 00:04:31.90\00:04:35.20 We got a free offer talks about that. 00:04:35.24\00:04:36.54 Jëan: We do, we have one of our Amazing Facts 00:04:36.57\00:04:37.87 study guides, and it's talking about the subject. 00:04:37.91\00:04:39.94 It's called "No Turning Back." 00:04:39.97\00:04:41.61 It's making that firm commitment, and that is so 00:04:41.64\00:04:44.38 important for the Christian. 00:04:44.41\00:04:46.28 We'll be happy to send you one of our-- 00:04:46.31\00:04:47.62 we'll send you the study guide. 00:04:47.65\00:04:48.95 All you need to do is call and ask. 00:04:48.98\00:04:50.32 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:04:50.35\00:04:53.79 You can ask for the study guide by name. 00:04:53.82\00:04:55.22 It's called "No Turning Back." 00:04:55.26\00:04:56.89 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and say, "Bible 00:04:56.93\00:05:00.60 answers live," and you can ask for it that way as well. 00:05:00.63\00:05:04.77 Doug: You know, there's a scripture that comes to mind 00:05:04.80\00:05:06.74 when we're talking about how important it is for people to 00:05:06.77\00:05:10.07 make a decision. 00:05:10.11\00:05:11.51 It tells us there in Hebrews 10, verse 26, and it's also in 00:05:11.54\00:05:15.08 verse 27, "For if we sin willfully after we've received 00:05:15.11\00:05:19.68 the knowledge of the truth, there remains no sacrifice for 00:05:19.71\00:05:23.15 sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and 00:05:23.18\00:05:27.56 fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries." 00:05:27.59\00:05:31.03 And that doesn't mean that if you make a mistake after you've 00:05:31.06\00:05:33.60 learned the truth, it means if you continue to live a life of 00:05:33.63\00:05:36.13 sin after you know what God's will is, then, you know, what 00:05:36.16\00:05:39.97 else can God do? 00:05:40.00\00:05:41.24 So it's just very dangerous, you know, sometimes we're talking to 00:05:41.27\00:05:44.41 people out there that have never made a decision, but now we're 00:05:44.44\00:05:47.84 talking to people that have known the truth, that are 00:05:47.88\00:05:50.31 postponing the decision. 00:05:50.35\00:05:52.01 And we're pleading with you. Don't do that. 00:05:52.05\00:05:54.05 Now, if you have any questions about that or other Bible 00:05:54.08\00:05:56.25 subjects, we're going to have prayer, then give us a call. 00:05:56.28\00:05:58.59 We'll do our best to answer your questions. 00:05:58.62\00:06:00.96 Jëan: Before we go to the phone lines, let's start with the word 00:06:00.99\00:06:02.86 of prayer. 00:06:02.89\00:06:04.19 Dear Father, we thank you that you are a God of mercy and a God 00:06:04.23\00:06:06.23 of forgiveness, and thank you, Lord, that we have this 00:06:06.26\00:06:08.26 opportunity to study Your Word, and we do pray that you would 00:06:08.30\00:06:10.87 guide, be with those who are listening, wherever they 00:06:10.90\00:06:12.87 might be. 00:06:12.90\00:06:14.20 And lead us to a clear understanding of the Bible, for 00:06:14.24\00:06:16.24 we ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:06:16.27\00:06:18.37 Doug: Amen. 00:06:18.41\00:06:19.64 Jëan: And if you have a Bible question, our phone line here to 00:06:19.67\00:06:21.44 the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:06:21.48\00:06:25.95 Again, that's 800-463-7297. 00:06:25.98\00:06:30.09 And we have Wynelle listening from Georgia. 00:06:30.12\00:06:33.89 Wynelle, welcome to the program. 00:06:33.92\00:06:35.69 Wynelle: Hi. 00:06:35.72\00:06:37.03 Thank you, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross, for taking my call. 00:06:37.06\00:06:41.10 I appreciate it very much. 00:06:41.13\00:06:43.20 Doug: Thanks for calling. 00:06:43.23\00:06:44.57 Wynelle: My question is how would a person know if the Holy 00:06:44.60\00:06:49.57 Spirit has left them? 00:06:49.60\00:06:52.37 Doug: All right. 00:06:52.41\00:06:53.74 Well, first of all, most people that worry that the Holy Spirit 00:06:53.78\00:06:56.58 has left them, it's because they're not feeling any, maybe 00:06:56.61\00:06:59.68 peace or they're not feeling any promptings of the Spirit, and 00:06:59.71\00:07:03.55 they're thinking things have gone quiet. 00:07:03.59\00:07:05.39 Does that mean that God has left me? 00:07:05.42\00:07:07.32 Well, if you've made a decision to be a Christian, you're not 00:07:07.36\00:07:10.83 going to always hear the Lord speaking to you directly. 00:07:10.86\00:07:14.00 You may also--the voice can go quiet because God has given you 00:07:14.03\00:07:21.24 some responsibility or some command, and you're 00:07:21.27\00:07:24.67 ignoring that. 00:07:24.71\00:07:26.44 And so, the volume can go down in your communications with God. 00:07:26.47\00:07:30.85 And in a case like that, I think, first of all, anyone 00:07:30.88\00:07:33.45 asking this question, the Holy Spirit's prompting them to think 00:07:33.48\00:07:36.22 about it, so that's a good sign. 00:07:36.25\00:07:38.09 But I'd say that if you're having doubts, and if it seems 00:07:38.12\00:07:41.56 like you're wondering if you're separating from the Lord, then 00:07:41.59\00:07:45.53 just humble yourself and say--claim the promise, say, 00:07:45.56\00:07:48.40 "Lord, you've promised if I confess my sins you'll 00:07:48.43\00:07:51.37 forgive me. 00:07:51.40\00:07:52.80 If I draw near to you like the prodigal son, when he started 00:07:52.83\00:07:56.30 coming home, the father, as soon as he saw him, he ran to 00:07:56.34\00:07:59.54 meet him." 00:07:59.57\00:08:00.98 The Lord will draw near to you if you draw near to Him. 00:08:01.01\00:08:03.58 So, draw near to God through 00:08:03.61\00:08:04.91 prayer, through reading His Word. 00:08:04.95\00:08:06.38 Say, "Lord, speak to me," and if there's any unconfessed 00:08:06.41\00:08:10.72 sin, then present that to the Lord. 00:08:10.75\00:08:12.82 He promises to forgive. 00:08:12.85\00:08:14.16 He wants to save you. I believe He will. 00:08:14.19\00:08:16.36 Jëan: You know, Pastor Doug, we have a book. 00:08:16.39\00:08:17.69 We don't always offer it, but it's a great 00:08:17.73\00:08:19.43 study, and it deals with the subject. 00:08:19.46\00:08:20.76 It's called, "Is it Easy To Be Saved or To Be Lost?" 00:08:20.80\00:08:24.43 Sometimes people wonder, you know, "What do I have to do to 00:08:24.47\00:08:26.53 be saved?" 00:08:26.57\00:08:27.90 And, "Am I heading down the right path?" 00:08:27.94\00:08:29.24 So, call and ask for that. 00:08:29.27\00:08:30.61 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:08:30.64\00:08:33.48 You can ask for the book. 00:08:33.51\00:08:34.81 It's called, "Is It Easier To Be Saved or To Be Lost?" 00:08:34.84\00:08:37.11 And you will enjoy reading that. 00:08:37.15\00:08:38.45 A lot of good scripture there. 00:08:38.48\00:08:40.58 Thank you, next caller that we have is Chris in Minnesota. 00:08:40.62\00:08:43.45 Chris, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:08:43.49\00:08:46.45 Chris: How are you doing? 00:08:46.49\00:08:47.79 Doug: Doing well, thanks for calling, Chris. 00:08:47.82\00:08:50.26 Chris: Yeah, thank you. 00:08:50.29\00:08:51.63 Quick question here. 00:08:51.66\00:08:52.96 Is there any significance to President Trump bringing up 1798 00:08:52.99\00:08:56.16 on a somewhat regular basis here lately, including up to his 00:08:56.20\00:09:00.50 election time? 00:09:00.54\00:09:01.87 Doug: Well, you know, I would have to confess that I had not 00:09:01.90\00:09:05.61 heard it. 00:09:05.64\00:09:07.21 I haven't heard him bring up 1798. 00:09:07.24\00:09:09.58 Have you heard that? 00:09:09.61\00:09:10.91 Jëan: No, I haven't, but I haven't caught all of 00:09:10.95\00:09:12.95 his speeches. 00:09:12.98\00:09:14.75 Doug: So, probably we are not experts. 00:09:14.78\00:09:17.15 We can't give you an answer to that. 00:09:17.19\00:09:20.29 I'd have to say, well, let me hear it and hear what the 00:09:20.32\00:09:22.22 context is, and then I might find out if there's some Bible 00:09:22.26\00:09:25.49 prophetic relevance to that. 00:09:25.53\00:09:27.96 Of course, that is a--the date 1798, for our friends that are 00:09:28.00\00:09:32.07 listening, is a prophetically relevant date in that it marks 00:09:32.10\00:09:36.00 the end of this people persecution that lasted 00:09:36.04\00:09:40.54 1260 years. 00:09:40.58\00:09:42.08 Started in 538 and it went 1260 years. 00:09:42.11\00:09:46.41 And when Napoleon arrested-- through his general Berthier-- 00:09:46.45\00:09:50.25 when Napoleon arrested the Pope, the Catholic church sort of lost 00:09:50.29\00:09:54.12 its uninterrupted power over Europe that it had for 00:09:54.16\00:09:57.36 1260 years. 00:09:57.39\00:09:59.23 And so, that's a significant date. 00:09:59.26\00:10:00.63 I had not heard anyone mention that in a campaign, so I'll have 00:10:00.66\00:10:04.13 to plead ignorance to that one. 00:10:04.17\00:10:06.30 Jëan: You know, we do have a study guide that talks about 00:10:06.33\00:10:08.10 these different time prophecies that you read about in the book 00:10:08.14\00:10:10.64 Revelation and in Daniel. 00:10:10.67\00:10:12.24 It's called "Right On Time," and I think it refers to that 1260 00:10:12.27\00:10:16.11 year time period. 00:10:16.14\00:10:17.48 We'll be able to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:10:17.51\00:10:19.31 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:10:19.35\00:10:22.68 You can ask for that study guide. 00:10:22.72\00:10:24.02 It's called "Right On Time." 00:10:24.05\00:10:26.49 And you'll enjoy reading that. 00:10:26.52\00:10:28.69 Nadia is in Georgia. 00:10:28.72\00:10:30.53 Nadia, welcome to the program. 00:10:30.56\00:10:32.13 Nadia: Hi, good evening. 00:10:32.16\00:10:33.53 Doug: Good evening. 00:10:33.56\00:10:34.83 Nadia: I was reading a text and I had a couple questions. 00:10:34.86\00:10:37.57 I'll just read part of it. 00:10:37.60\00:10:39.63 "Between the portico and the altar, were about 00:10:39.67\00:10:41.97 twenty-five men. 00:10:42.00\00:10:43.37 With their backs to the temple of the Lord and their faces 00:10:43.41\00:10:46.71 toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in 00:10:46.74\00:10:49.44 the east." 00:10:49.48\00:10:50.81 I was wondering, could this text refer to Sunday keepers as 00:10:50.85\00:10:54.65 idolaters worshiping the sun? 00:10:54.68\00:10:57.05 And my second question is, do you think that worshiping on 00:10:57.09\00:11:00.79 Sunday is a form of sun worship in God's eyes? 00:11:00.82\00:11:04.76 Doug: All right, well you're quoting from a prophecy 00:11:04.79\00:11:07.93 in Ezekiel. 00:11:07.96\00:11:09.26 Now, Ezekiel is, I don't think he's looking ahead to the time 00:11:09.30\00:11:12.93 beyond Christ. 00:11:12.97\00:11:14.27 I think he's looking at what was happening in Israel. 00:11:14.30\00:11:16.54 One reason the judgment that Ezekiel wrote from Babylon in 00:11:16.57\00:11:21.18 the Persian area. 00:11:21.21\00:11:22.64 And he was living, he's a contemporary of Daniel. 00:11:22.68\00:11:26.72 The Israelites had been carried off captive because of 00:11:26.75\00:11:29.28 their infidelity. 00:11:29.32\00:11:30.62 And while they were going through the outward forms of the 00:11:30.65\00:11:32.99 sanctuary, Ezekiel said that they're still involved in sun 00:11:33.02\00:11:36.52 worship, which was common among the Baal worshipers. 00:11:36.56\00:11:40.16 So, he's referring to something that had happened and that was 00:11:40.20\00:11:43.40 happening where they were engaging in, like, 00:11:43.43\00:11:46.97 duplicitous worship. 00:11:47.00\00:11:48.34 We're saying we worship the Lord but also secretly praying 00:11:48.37\00:11:51.47 towards the sun, which is sun worship. 00:11:51.51\00:11:53.54 Now, you're asking is that--are people who go to church on 00:11:53.58\00:11:55.88 Sunday, are they involved in sun worship? 00:11:55.91\00:11:58.01 Well, it is true the name Sunday is derived from sun worship, and 00:11:58.05\00:12:04.72 a lot of ancient civilizations worshiped the sun, even in the 00:12:04.75\00:12:07.79 Americas, the Egyptians, the Babylonians. 00:12:07.82\00:12:12.09 The sun, I think even among the Romans, was it Apollo? 00:12:12.13\00:12:15.10 Was he the chief sun god? 00:12:15.13\00:12:17.37 And so, that's not unusual. 00:12:17.40\00:12:21.80 When the average person goes to church on Sunday, I wouldn't 00:12:21.84\00:12:24.37 call them sun worshipers. 00:12:24.41\00:12:25.91 I think that, you know, they believe that they're worshiping 00:12:25.94\00:12:29.51 on the Sabbath day, they've just got the days wrong according to 00:12:29.54\00:12:32.95 the Bible. 00:12:32.98\00:12:34.32 They think that--most of them think, well because Jesus rose 00:12:34.35\00:12:36.75 the first day, that the commandment was changed from the 00:12:36.79\00:12:39.39 seventh day to the first day. 00:12:39.42\00:12:40.82 And of course, there is no command in the Bible to worship 00:12:40.86\00:12:44.43 on the first day as a holy day. 00:12:44.46\00:12:47.30 We're supposed to worship God seven days a week, but there's 00:12:47.30\00:12:49.56 no command to rest the first day and keep it as a new Sabbath. 00:12:49.60\00:12:53.27 That's where I think they err, but I don't think any of them 00:12:53.30\00:12:57.31 are praying to the sunrise. 00:12:57.34\00:12:59.41 Jëan: You know, part of the interesting passage there in 00:12:59.44\00:13:01.54 Ezekiel, the prophecy, God told--when the children of 00:13:01.58\00:13:04.55 Israel were to build the temple, the temple was to be laid out a 00:13:04.58\00:13:07.35 certain way and it was from the plans of the one that was built 00:13:07.38\00:13:09.85 in the wilderness. 00:13:09.88\00:13:11.22 The door to the temple, when you came to the door to the temple, 00:13:11.25\00:13:13.56 the east was to be to your back. 00:13:13.59\00:13:15.36 In other words, you were facing west. 00:13:15.39\00:13:17.39 The reason for that is much of the sacrifice was done early in 00:13:17.43\00:13:20.06 the morning and the tendency amongst the pagans as the sun 00:13:20.10\00:13:23.63 was rising, they would bow towards the east and worship 00:13:23.67\00:13:26.60 the sun. 00:13:26.63\00:13:27.94 God didn't want that temptation for His people. 00:13:27.97\00:13:29.57 He said, "The sun needs to be behind you." 00:13:29.60\00:13:31.41 But here are people inside the temple in the courtyard area, 00:13:31.44\00:13:35.04 and their backs are turned. 00:13:35.08\00:13:37.38 Are rather towards the most holy place of the sanctuary, and they 00:13:37.41\00:13:40.45 are facing towards the east and they are worshiping the 00:13:40.48\00:13:42.52 rising sun. 00:13:42.55\00:13:43.89 And that was what was being condemned at that point in time. 00:13:43.92\00:13:46.05 Doug: Yeah, they basically--they're turning their 00:13:46.09\00:13:47.66 back on the worship of God towards pagan worship. 00:13:47.69\00:13:51.26 Good question, Nadia. Thank you so much. 00:13:51.29\00:13:53.19 Jëan: We've got Lee listening in Texas. 00:13:53.23\00:13:54.86 Lee, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:13:54.93\00:13:58.10 Lee: Yes, thank you for taking my call tonight. 00:13:58.13\00:14:00.84 My question is, does the mark of the beast come out before or 00:14:00.87\00:14:05.54 during church and state union? 00:14:05.57\00:14:08.34 Doug: All right, great. 00:14:08.38\00:14:10.18 The Bible tells us in the last days in Revelation 13 that the 00:14:10.21\00:14:13.95 beast power is there--there's two beasts in Revelation 13. 00:14:13.98\00:14:18.09 The first beast is the papacy based in Europe with the 00:14:18.12\00:14:23.06 Orthodox, the Catholic church, and the other Orthodox churches. 00:14:23.09\00:14:25.86 They're going to unite with Protestants and Evangelicals in 00:14:25.89\00:14:29.03 the Americas, North America principally. 00:14:29.06\00:14:32.10 That they're going to form a confederacy with church and 00:14:32.13\00:14:35.00 state that is going to compel worship. 00:14:35.04\00:14:37.64 Now, this is not saying there's going to be a one world 00:14:37.67\00:14:40.48 government, because Daniel says there never will be. 00:14:40.51\00:14:43.08 They're not going to cleave together. 00:14:43.11\00:14:44.41 They'll never be a one world government, but there'll be a 00:14:44.45\00:14:47.42 confederacy of church and state around the world where this 00:14:47.45\00:14:51.32 religion is going to be compelled, and it probably is 00:14:51.35\00:14:54.19 going to happen gradually, where first they're going to say, you 00:14:54.22\00:14:57.89 know, "The world's going to Hades in a handbasket," and it's 00:14:57.93\00:15:03.00 because we're not, you know, worshiping God, and not taking 00:15:03.03\00:15:06.33 care of the environment might be included. 00:15:06.37\00:15:08.77 And we need to, you know, start mandating laws that everybody's 00:15:08.80\00:15:12.84 got to get back to church. 00:15:12.87\00:15:14.71 And there's going to be laws that are going to go against the 00:15:14.74\00:15:17.18 law of God. 00:15:17.21\00:15:18.51 So, I think it's going to sort of happen. 00:15:18.55\00:15:20.92 First, you're going to see the union and the union is going to 00:15:20.95\00:15:23.35 then forge around worshiping the beast in his image and a mark of 00:15:23.39\00:15:27.72 the beast. 00:15:27.76\00:15:29.06 Jëan: We do have a study guide. 00:15:29.09\00:15:30.43 It's called the "Mark Of The Beast." 00:15:30.46\00:15:31.76 And of course, Revelation chapter 14, you have three 00:15:31.79\00:15:34.76 angels's messages, and the third angel warns about the beast and 00:15:34.83\00:15:38.20 about his image and worshiping the image and having the mark of 00:15:38.23\00:15:41.60 the beast, so a very important study. 00:15:41.64\00:15:43.87 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:15:43.91\00:15:45.84 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:15:45.87\00:15:49.48 That is our resource phone line. 00:15:49.51\00:15:51.41 If you have a Bible question, the number to call 00:15:51.45\00:15:53.01 is 800-463-7297. 00:15:53.05\00:15:56.99 Again, that number is 800-463-7297. 00:15:57.02\00:16:00.86 That'll bring you here into the studio. 00:16:00.89\00:16:02.96 And we mentioned different free offers. 00:16:02.99\00:16:04.66 You can also get the free offer by simply dialing #250 on 00:16:04.69\00:16:07.96 your smartphone. 00:16:07.96\00:16:09.36 And as for that, it's called the "Mark Of The Beast." 00:16:09.40\00:16:11.77 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:16:11.80\00:16:14.30 We got Anthony in New York. 00:16:14.34\00:16:16.20 Anthony, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:16:16.24\00:16:18.64 Anthony: Yes, good evening, pastors. 00:16:18.67\00:16:20.21 Doug: Evening. 00:16:20.24\00:16:21.58 Anthony: So, as I was waiting, I actually think the Holy Spirit 00:16:21.61\00:16:23.68 told me to look up this--the question I had, and I saw it on 00:16:23.71\00:16:26.15 your website, Amazing Facts, that my question was actually 00:16:26.18\00:16:30.82 about the book of Jasher in Joshua chapter 10, verse 13, but 00:16:30.85\00:16:34.62 I saw that it says on your website that no one really knows 00:16:34.66\00:16:38.36 about this book, so I don't know. 00:16:38.39\00:16:40.53 I don't know if there's anything else you want to say about the 00:16:40.56\00:16:42.30 question, but I did already get my answer. 00:16:42.33\00:16:44.50 Doug: Well, no. 00:16:44.53\00:16:45.83 It's a good question, and, you know, sometimes we give an 00:16:45.87\00:16:47.67 answer, we give an abbreviated answer because of the time. 00:16:47.70\00:16:50.74 I'll say a little more about that. 00:16:50.77\00:16:52.37 There are references in the Old Testament, and I think one or 00:16:52.41\00:16:56.01 two in the New, to books that are not books of the Bible. 00:16:56.04\00:17:00.15 You not only have the book of Jasher--by the way, the book of 00:17:00.18\00:17:02.45 Jasher is mentioned in the book of Joshua, and the book of 00:17:02.48\00:17:05.82 Jasher is mentioned in 2 Samuel in chapter 1, verse 18. 00:17:05.85\00:17:11.03 It says, "He told them to teach the children of Judah the song 00:17:11.06\00:17:14.00 of the bow; Indeed it is written in the book of Jasher." 00:17:14.03\00:17:18.33 And so, Jasher may have been a prophet and he had written some 00:17:18.37\00:17:22.70 inspired things, but for whatever reason, God did not see 00:17:22.74\00:17:26.21 that it needed to be preserved for posterity. 00:17:26.24\00:17:29.28 And so, it's not there. 00:17:29.31\00:17:30.68 I think it talks about the book of Gad, the seer also. 00:17:30.71\00:17:34.15 There's one other I can't remember. 00:17:34.18\00:17:35.78 But one place is the book of Nathan. 00:17:35.82\00:17:37.79 Now they may be referring to 2 Samuel, which is written after 00:17:37.82\00:17:42.36 Samuel dies, so he didn't write. 00:17:42.39\00:17:44.06 It may have been Nathan the prophet that helped write that. 00:17:44.09\00:17:46.03 So, of course, he was--he may have been dead then too. 00:17:46.06\00:17:48.76 So, well, I don't know. 00:17:48.80\00:17:50.13 Anyway, those three books in the Old Testament are referred to. 00:17:50.17\00:17:55.64 Not every prophet wrote a book. 00:17:55.67\00:17:57.84 John the Baptist was the greatest prophet, and he didn't 00:17:57.87\00:18:00.04 write a book. 00:18:00.08\00:18:01.38 And not every prophetic book was part of the holy canon. 00:18:01.41\00:18:05.38 So, they had some books that they believe were inspired, but 00:18:05.41\00:18:10.82 not necessarily part of the Bible. 00:18:10.85\00:18:12.65 I think "Pilgrim's Progress" is somewhat inspired. 00:18:12.69\00:18:15.46 It's not part of the Bible, though. 00:18:15.49\00:18:16.86 Jëan: Yeah, something else about the book. 00:18:16.89\00:18:18.23 I'm just looking at it, a little commentary on it. 00:18:18.26\00:18:21.03 It's also referred to as the Book of Praises or the Book 00:18:21.06\00:18:24.10 of Hymns. 00:18:24.13\00:18:25.47 So, it seemed as though it was also a collection similar to 00:18:25.50\00:18:27.74 what the Psalms are, collection of sacred songs that was 00:18:27.77\00:18:31.64 possibly used in worship as well. 00:18:31.67\00:18:34.21 Doug: Yeah, the two references actually are poetic references. 00:18:34.24\00:18:37.51 Jëan: Yeah, something related to that. 00:18:37.55\00:18:39.11 Good, great question. 00:18:39.15\00:18:40.48 All right, next caller that we have is Adriene from Tennessee. 00:18:40.52\00:18:44.79 Is that right, Adriene? 00:18:44.82\00:18:47.02 Adriene: That's correct. 00:18:47.06\00:18:48.36 Jëan: Welcome. 00:18:48.39\00:18:49.89 Adriene: Thank you, thank you, Pastor Ross and Pastor Doug. 00:18:49.92\00:18:52.66 I am calling because I'm stumped on Deuteronomy chapter 12, 00:18:52.69\00:18:56.77 verse 22. 00:18:56.80\00:18:58.17 My husband and I are reading from the beginning to the end of 00:18:58.20\00:19:00.84 the Bible, and of course, this is an area where God has 00:19:00.87\00:19:03.97 made--He's made it very clear what types of meats we are to 00:19:04.01\00:19:07.58 eat and what meats we shouldn't eat. 00:19:07.61\00:19:09.61 And in this particular text, it talks about in an instance where 00:19:09.64\00:19:13.62 you can't get to a certain facility in time for whatever 00:19:13.65\00:19:19.65 reason, then you can have unclean or clean meats. 00:19:19.69\00:19:22.82 So, could you--I'm perplexed by that, hoping you can answer it. 00:19:22.86\00:19:26.26 Doug: Yeah, let me read this for our friends that are listening. 00:19:26.29\00:19:29.43 It's talking about these annual feasts that the Jews would 00:19:29.46\00:19:32.80 attend, and we're in Deuteronomy chapter 12 here. 00:19:32.83\00:19:36.00 And it's--let me just read it. 00:19:36.04\00:19:37.67 It says in verse 20, I'll start there, "When the Lord your God 00:19:37.71\00:19:40.44 enlarges your border as he's promised you, and you say, 'Let 00:19:40.48\00:19:43.91 me eat meat,' because you long to eat meat, that you may eat as 00:19:43.95\00:19:47.25 much as your heart desires. 00:19:47.28\00:19:48.88 If the place where the Lord God chooses to put His name," it 00:19:48.92\00:19:51.69 ends up being Jerusalem, "is too far from you," where they would 00:19:51.72\00:19:54.72 go and eat the sacrificial meats, okay? 00:19:54.76\00:19:58.26 "If the place is too far from you, then you might slaughter 00:19:58.29\00:20:01.13 from your herd and your flock which the Lord has given you, 00:20:01.16\00:20:03.73 just as I've commanded you." 00:20:03.77\00:20:05.47 Now--so he's referring them back to something he's 00:20:05.50\00:20:07.44 commanded earlier. 00:20:07.47\00:20:08.80 That would be the clean and unclean animals. 00:20:08.84\00:20:11.31 "Just as I've commanded you, you may eat within your gates as 00:20:11.34\00:20:13.84 much as your heart desires. 00:20:13.88\00:20:15.38 Just as the gazelle and the deer are eaten, so you may eat them; 00:20:15.41\00:20:18.88 the clean and the unclean alike may eat them." 00:20:18.91\00:20:21.95 Now, what it's not saying is the clean and the unclean meats you 00:20:21.98\00:20:25.99 can eat. 00:20:26.02\00:20:27.36 It's saying, people who are ceremonially clean or unclean, 00:20:27.39\00:20:32.73 they're all allowed to eat of this annual feast sacrifice. 00:20:32.76\00:20:37.47 So, some people, because of the, you know, they had some issue 00:20:37.50\00:20:42.34 or, you know, a woman during a certain time of the month, or if 00:20:42.37\00:20:46.68 you had, you know, any kind of a 00:20:46.71\00:20:48.01 rash, or there's a bunch of things. 00:20:48.04\00:20:49.34 If you had touched a dead body because you had a burial in the 00:20:49.38\00:20:51.78 family, you were spiritually unclean. 00:20:51.81\00:20:55.58 Some people thought, "Well, if you're unclean, then you can't 00:20:55.62\00:20:57.92 participate in this annual feast of food." 00:20:57.95\00:21:03.22 And God is saying, yes, the clean and the unclean people are 00:21:03.26\00:21:07.13 free to eat of those sacrifices. 00:21:07.13\00:21:10.53 It's not saying you can eat of any animal during the feast 00:21:10.57\00:21:13.34 because he made it really clear that the other things were 00:21:13.37\00:21:16.00 an abomination. 00:21:16.04\00:21:17.37 Why would he turn that around? 00:21:17.41\00:21:19.14 Jëan: We do have a study guide that talks about that. 00:21:19.17\00:21:21.28 It's called "God's Free Health Plan" and gives some good 00:21:21.31\00:21:23.51 biblical principles for living a healthy life. 00:21:23.55\00:21:26.72 If you'd like to receive that, the number to call 00:21:26.75\00:21:28.25 is 800-835-6747. 00:21:28.28\00:21:31.62 That is our resource phone line. 00:21:31.65\00:21:33.66 You can ask for that. 00:21:33.69\00:21:34.99 It's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:21:35.02\00:21:36.42 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and just say Bible 00:21:36.46\00:21:39.89 answers live and then ask for it by name, "God's Free 00:21:39.93\00:21:42.76 Health Plan." 00:21:42.80\00:21:44.13 We'll be able to send you a digital copy of that 00:21:44.17\00:21:45.97 study guide. 00:21:46.00\00:21:47.34 Of course, if you have a Bible question, the number 00:21:47.37\00:21:49.20 is 800-463-7297. 00:21:49.24\00:21:53.04 You'll probably see that on the screen if you're 00:21:53.07\00:21:54.61 watching, 800-463-7297. 00:21:54.64\00:21:58.95 It's a good time to call. 00:21:58.98\00:22:00.72 We've got Ely in Kansas. 00:22:00.75\00:22:02.55 Ely, welcome to the program. 00:22:02.58\00:22:04.35 Doug: Ellie. 00:22:04.39\00:22:05.72 Jëan: Or is it Ellie? 00:22:05.75\00:22:07.06 Sorry, Ellie. 00:22:07.09\00:22:08.42 Ely: Oh, it's Ely. 00:22:08.46\00:22:09.76 Doug: Ely. 00:22:09.79\00:22:11.13 Jëan: We got the first, okay. 00:22:11.16\00:22:12.46 Ely: Yeah, yeah, it's Ely. 00:22:12.49\00:22:13.83 It's always Ely. 00:22:13.86\00:22:15.13 Yeah, my question for tonight is why do innocent people suffer? 00:22:15.16\00:22:18.70 Because, you know, I don't understand why people are born 00:22:18.73\00:22:24.71 and they are going to die, and God knows that they're going 00:22:24.74\00:22:28.64 to die. 00:22:28.68\00:22:30.01 But why does that happen? 00:22:30.05\00:22:31.45 Like, why do they suffer if they don't have, like, a blame or 00:22:31.48\00:22:35.98 something like that? 00:22:36.02\00:22:37.65 Doug: Yeah, no, there's a book in the Bible called the book of 00:22:37.69\00:22:41.06 Job, and the very beginning of the book, it says, "Job is a 00:22:41.09\00:22:44.63 perfect and an upright man, he's a good man, honest man, he 00:22:44.66\00:22:49.03 follows the commandments of the Lord." 00:22:49.06\00:22:51.67 And all of a sudden, he gets attacked by the devil. 00:22:51.70\00:22:55.97 And first he gets attacked where he loses his finances, then he 00:22:56.00\00:23:01.38 loses his family, then he loses his physical health. 00:23:01.41\00:23:05.95 It's just one thing after another. 00:23:05.98\00:23:08.55 And the Bible in this story, it pulls back the veil, and we see 00:23:08.58\00:23:12.42 that the devil is the one that's bringing this. 00:23:12.45\00:23:15.16 And you might be thinking, "Well, isn't God more powerful 00:23:15.19\00:23:18.36 than the devil? 00:23:18.39\00:23:19.69 Why does God allow suffering?" 00:23:19.73\00:23:21.40 This is a question so many people don't understand is that 00:23:21.43\00:23:25.43 our planet has been hijacked by a very powerful evil fiend-- 00:23:25.47\00:23:31.37 he was the most powerful of God's created beings--called 00:23:31.41\00:23:36.38 Lucifer, turned to Satan and the devil, and he has accused God of 00:23:36.41\00:23:41.65 all kinds of malicious accusations. 00:23:41.68\00:23:44.42 God had to--God could have destroyed Lucifer by the blink 00:23:44.45\00:23:47.79 of an eye because he's the all powerful Creator. 00:23:47.82\00:23:51.73 But he had to let Lucifer demonstrate what his--what were 00:23:51.76\00:23:57.33 the results of his government. 00:23:57.37\00:23:59.47 He had to give other creatures the freedom to choose whether to 00:23:59.50\00:24:03.00 listen to the Word of God or the word of the devil. 00:24:03.04\00:24:06.54 In the beginning, our first parents chose to listen to the 00:24:06.57\00:24:09.41 word of the devil instead of the Word of God. 00:24:09.44\00:24:12.18 God said, "Do not eat the forbidden fruit. 00:24:12.21\00:24:14.85 If you eat the forbidden fruit then, you know, the devil's 00:24:14.88\00:24:17.09 going to move into this world, and you'll die." 00:24:17.12\00:24:21.42 And the devil said, "Don't believe God. 00:24:21.46\00:24:23.46 If you eat this fruit, you'll be like God, and God's afraid 00:24:23.49\00:24:25.83 you're going to be like Him." 00:24:25.86\00:24:27.40 See, the devil wanted to be God, so he planted his own desires in 00:24:27.46\00:24:30.80 the hearts of Eve and Adam. 00:24:30.83\00:24:32.97 And when our first parents chose to listen to the enemy, the 00:24:33.00\00:24:37.74 devil set up his headquarters in this world, and all the misery 00:24:37.77\00:24:40.94 you see in the world, instead of pointing to God and say, "Why is 00:24:40.98\00:24:44.41 God doing this?" 00:24:44.45\00:24:45.81 No, instead of saying, "Why do bad things happen?" 00:24:45.85\00:24:47.75 We should say, "Why are we still alive?" 00:24:47.78\00:24:50.49 The penalty for sin is death, but we don't die right away 00:24:50.52\00:24:54.02 because Jesus said, "I'll come to the world. 00:24:54.06\00:24:56.12 I'll become a human. 00:24:56.16\00:24:57.76 I'll live as an example for them. 00:24:57.79\00:25:00.36 I'll show them what God is really like, that He's love. 00:25:00.40\00:25:03.00 He's not what the devil says, and then I'll die for 00:25:03.03\00:25:06.40 their sins." 00:25:06.43\00:25:07.74 He also died to buy time for each person to make 00:25:07.77\00:25:10.91 that decision. 00:25:10.94\00:25:12.47 So, once people understand the cosmic conflict that's going on 00:25:12.51\00:25:16.38 in the background, they can understand that good and bad 00:25:16.41\00:25:20.08 happens to everybody. 00:25:20.12\00:25:21.42 Even Jesus said, "Rain and sunshine falls on everybody in 00:25:21.45\00:25:24.79 this world because there's a battle between good and evil." 00:25:24.82\00:25:27.72 And God is going to win in the end. 00:25:27.76\00:25:29.69 We know that. 00:25:29.72\00:25:30.96 That's why we have prophecy, but we need to try and reach as many 00:25:30.99\00:25:34.73 as we can to believe in God before it's too late. 00:25:34.76\00:25:37.37 Jëan: You know, we have a study guide and it deals with the 00:25:37.40\00:25:39.23 subject of why do bad things happen to good people? 00:25:39.27\00:25:41.94 It's called "Did God Create The Devil." 00:25:41.97\00:25:44.51 We know the Bible speaks of the Devil. 00:25:44.54\00:25:45.87 The Devil is alive and well, and he's doing his evil and bringing 00:25:45.91\00:25:49.91 pain and suffering to people, but where did he come from? 00:25:49.94\00:25:52.25 Well this study guide will give you the answer. 00:25:52.28\00:25:54.62 All you need to do is call and ask for it. 00:25:54.65\00:25:56.08 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:25:56.12\00:25:59.65 And you can ask for that study guide. 00:25:59.69\00:26:01.09 It's called, "Did God Create The Devil?" 00:26:01.12\00:26:03.96 And just a lot of good Bible verses in there. 00:26:03.99\00:26:06.66 Doug: Very good, we got--well let's see 00:26:06.70\00:26:07.96 if we can do a quick one here. 00:26:08.00\00:26:09.30 Jëan: All right. It's James in California. 00:26:09.33\00:26:10.63 James, welcome to "Bible answers Live." 00:26:10.67\00:26:12.63 James: Hey, good evening, pastors. 00:26:12.67\00:26:13.97 So, my question is, where do we see the Trinity, the Father, 00:26:14.00\00:26:17.44 Son, and Holy Spirit in Genesis chapter 1 in the 00:26:17.47\00:26:20.21 creation story? 00:26:20.24\00:26:21.58 Doug: All right, well first of all, you're not going to find 00:26:21.61\00:26:23.55 the word Trinity. 00:26:23.58\00:26:25.11 Even though you're not going to find the word ascension in the 00:26:25.15\00:26:28.12 Bible, we know that it's a teaching Jesus ascended 00:26:28.15\00:26:30.42 to heaven. 00:26:30.45\00:26:31.79 You're not going to find the word millennium in the Bible, 00:26:31.82\00:26:33.76 but we know Revelation 20 talks about the millennium, the 00:26:33.79\00:26:36.83 1000 years. 00:26:36.86\00:26:38.16 The Trinity is the three persons of the Godhead. 00:26:38.19\00:26:40.80 When God says in Genesis, "Let us make man in Our image." 00:26:40.83\00:26:45.83 And God says that the man and the woman, there's two of them, 00:26:45.87\00:26:49.40 they get married, they become one. 00:26:49.44\00:26:51.51 We learn right there in Genesis that one does not always mean 00:26:51.54\00:26:55.04 numerical quantity. 00:26:55.08\00:26:56.78 It can mean unity. 00:26:56.81\00:26:58.71 Jesus prayed the 12 disciples would be one. 00:26:58.75\00:27:02.25 "Father," he said, "even as you and I are one." 00:27:02.28\00:27:04.55 And so, God, the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are one. 00:27:04.59\00:27:08.29 It does say, "And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of 00:27:08.32\00:27:11.39 the waters." 00:27:11.43\00:27:12.76 So you've got the Holy Spirit there. 00:27:12.79\00:27:14.10 You've got God saying, "Let us make man in Our image." 00:27:14.10\00:27:17.20 God the Father and Son, it tells us how to form. 00:27:17.23\00:27:20.30 Well, we could say more. 00:27:20.34\00:27:21.64 We have a book on that called "Understanding the 00:27:21.67\00:27:23.57 Trinity, One God or Three." 00:27:23.61\00:27:24.91 Ask for a copy. 00:30:56.95\00:30:59.49 Live," and this is, as the title suggests, a live international 00:30:59.52\00:31:03.83 Bible study. 00:31:03.86\00:31:05.19 If you're hearing the program for the first time, then we 00:31:05.23\00:31:07.20 encourage you to call in with your Bible questions. 00:31:07.23\00:31:09.13 It is, of course, a free phone call. 00:31:09.16\00:31:11.17 That number, if you want to hear the acronym, it's 00:31:11.20\00:31:13.47 1-800-God says. 00:31:13.50\00:31:15.27 That translates to 1-800-463-7297. 00:31:15.30\00:31:20.31 We have lines open. 00:31:20.34\00:31:21.68 Give us a call, for the next half an hour, 00:31:21.71\00:31:24.21 Pastor Ross and I will answer your questions as well as 00:31:24.25\00:31:26.85 we can. 00:31:26.88\00:31:28.22 We got our Bibles open before us. 00:31:28.25\00:31:29.55 My name is Doug Batchelor. 00:31:29.58\00:31:30.85 Jëan: My name is Jëan Ross, and Pastor, we have some folks who 00:31:30.89\00:31:33.36 emailed their Bible questions to us, and we're going to take one 00:31:33.39\00:31:35.82 of these questions right now. 00:31:35.86\00:31:37.56 And this question is, "In Romans chapter 6, verse 23, it says 00:31:37.59\00:31:40.96 that, 'The wages of sin is death,' but in 1 John chapter 00:31:41.00\00:31:44.27 5:17, it says, 'There that not every sin leads to death.' 00:31:44.30\00:31:48.60 Can you explain this?" 00:31:48.64\00:31:50.64 Doug: Yeah, well the penalty for all sin is death, but not every 00:31:50.67\00:31:53.81 sin leads to the second death, meaning there's no forgiveness. 00:31:53.84\00:31:57.98 But the unpardonable sin leads to the second death. 00:31:58.01\00:32:01.08 There's no forgiveness for the unpardonable sin. 00:32:01.12\00:32:04.19 And so, yeah, "All manner of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven," 00:32:04.22\00:32:07.56 Jesus said, and this is in Matthew 12, except blasphemy 00:32:07.59\00:32:11.13 against the Holy Spirit. 00:32:11.16\00:32:12.73 We had a caller earlier in the program was asking, you know, "I 00:32:12.76\00:32:15.63 wonder if I've grieved away the spirit?" 00:32:15.66\00:32:17.53 We actually have a book that's dealing with what is the 00:32:17.57\00:32:20.84 unpardonable sin. 00:32:20.87\00:32:22.34 And if people want to know more about that, they can call the 00:32:22.37\00:32:25.21 number and we'll send them a free copy. 00:32:25.24\00:32:27.68 Jëan: All right? 00:32:27.71\00:32:29.01 And maybe one more question that was emailed to us. 00:32:29.04\00:32:30.58 By the way, if you want to send us a question, it's just 00:32:30.61\00:32:32.31 simply balquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:32:32.35\00:32:36.32 That's the email address. 00:32:36.35\00:32:37.82 "In Exodus chapter 24, verse 11," the question is, "did the 00:32:37.85\00:32:41.56 elders who went up with Moses on the mount, did they see God's 00:32:41.59\00:32:44.63 glory or did they see the glory of Jesus?" 00:32:44.66\00:32:48.50 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:32:48.53\00:32:49.83 It actually says that, you know, the elders went up, not to the 00:32:49.86\00:32:53.30 top of the mountain, but they went to the base of the 00:32:53.34\00:32:54.97 mountain, which no one else was allowed to do. 00:32:55.00\00:32:57.57 And it says, "They saw God and they ate and drank." 00:32:57.61\00:33:00.71 Now, that doesn't mean they saw God's face because God told 00:33:00.74\00:33:04.55 Moses, "No man will see my face and live." 00:33:04.58\00:33:07.05 Moses saw God from behind. 00:33:07.08\00:33:10.52 The elders probably saw God's glory. 00:33:10.55\00:33:12.95 I don't think that they looked directly into the unveiled face 00:33:12.99\00:33:17.43 of the Almighty. 00:33:17.46\00:33:18.89 But you know, even Jacob, when he wrestled with the angel, he 00:33:18.93\00:33:21.56 said, "I saw God." 00:33:21.60\00:33:23.73 And sometimes people see a manifestation of God or see the 00:33:23.77\00:33:27.04 glory of God, and they'll say, "I saw God," or "God spoke 00:33:27.07\00:33:29.94 to me." 00:33:29.97\00:33:31.37 So, I don't believe they saw the unveiled glory of God. 00:33:31.41\00:33:35.18 That's why Jesus came. 00:33:35.21\00:33:37.28 The glory of God was veiled in humanity. 00:33:37.31\00:33:40.62 Jëan: All right, we're going to go to the phone lines then. 00:33:40.65\00:33:42.22 We got Gail in Michigan. 00:33:42.25\00:33:43.69 Gail, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:33:43.72\00:33:45.45 You're on the air. 00:33:45.49\00:33:46.79 Gail: Hello. 00:33:46.82\00:33:48.16 Thank you for taking my call and thanks for--thank you for all 00:33:48.19\00:33:50.73 you do. 00:33:50.76\00:33:52.09 It literally saved my life. 00:33:52.13\00:33:54.46 Doug: Praise the Lord. 00:33:54.46\00:33:55.76 And your question tonight, Gail? 00:33:55.80\00:33:57.73 Gail: My question is, is being filled with the Holy Spirit and 00:33:57.77\00:34:02.17 speaking in tongues the same thing? 00:34:02.20\00:34:05.07 Doug: No, not necessarily. 00:34:05.11\00:34:06.64 You do have an example in the Bible, or a couple of them, 00:34:06.68\00:34:09.98 where they were baptized with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke 00:34:10.01\00:34:12.45 in tongues in Acts chapter 2, Acts chapter 10, and then 00:34:12.48\00:34:17.05 Acts 19. 00:34:17.09\00:34:19.02 But a lot of times--you can read in Acts chapter 4--they were 00:34:19.05\00:34:21.92 filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God. 00:34:21.96\00:34:24.76 You can read where the--and the Holy Spirit came upon 00:34:24.79\00:34:27.76 David and the Holy Spirit came upon Samson. 00:34:27.83\00:34:31.20 And when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will manifest a 00:34:31.23\00:34:35.04 variety of different gifts of the Spirit. 00:34:35.07\00:34:38.24 For Samson, it was a gift of physical strength when the 00:34:38.27\00:34:40.58 Spirit of the Lord came on him. 00:34:40.61\00:34:42.31 Holy Spirit came on David, and it gave him 00:34:42.34\00:34:44.61 administrative ability. 00:34:44.65\00:34:46.35 The Spirit came on him, and he wrote these Spirit-filled 00:34:46.38\00:34:49.78 psalms, gift of music, you might say. 00:34:49.82\00:34:53.19 And so, you can read a list of the gifts of the Spirit you're 00:34:53.22\00:34:57.43 going to find in--well, those are the fruits of the Spirit, 00:34:57.46\00:34:59.76 you'll find in Galatians chapter 5, but different gifts of the 00:34:59.79\00:35:02.80 Spirit you find in, I think it's 1 Corinthians 12, where it talks 00:35:02.83\00:35:06.30 about, you know, some are teachers, some administrators, 00:35:06.33\00:35:08.87 workers of miracles, some are apostles, some are prophets. 00:35:08.90\00:35:12.21 There's a broad variety. 00:35:12.24\00:35:15.34 And the lists in the Bible are probably not listing everything 00:35:15.38\00:35:18.91 that God's Spirit may empower you to do. 00:35:18.95\00:35:21.72 The gift of tongues is one of many of the gifts of the Spirit, 00:35:21.75\00:35:25.69 but whenever you're filled with the Spirit, you don't always 00:35:25.72\00:35:28.09 speak in tongues. 00:35:28.12\00:35:29.39 Jëan: And of course, you need to understand what the Bible means 00:35:29.42\00:35:31.43 when it talks about the gift of tongues. 00:35:31.46\00:35:33.53 It's a little different than what some people claim is 00:35:33.56\00:35:35.96 the gift of tongues today. 00:35:36.00\00:35:38.00 So, we do have a book. 00:35:38.03\00:35:39.33 It's called "Understanding Tongues," and we'll be happy to 00:35:39.37\00:35:42.20 send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:35:42.24\00:35:43.61 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:35:43.64\00:35:47.04 That is the resource phone line. 00:35:47.08\00:35:48.64 And you can ask for the book. 00:35:48.68\00:35:49.98 It's called "Understanding Tongues." 00:35:50.01\00:35:51.71 And when people receive the gift of tongues, and you read about 00:35:51.75\00:35:54.02 in the book of Acts, they were able to preach or teach the 00:35:54.05\00:35:56.48 gospel in languages that they hadn't learned. 00:35:56.52\00:35:59.92 So, it's for the communication of the gospel. 00:35:59.95\00:36:03.09 All right, thank you, Gail. 00:36:03.12\00:36:04.46 We've got Glenn and Linda in Ohio. 00:36:04.49\00:36:06.26 Glenn, Linda, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:36:06.29\00:36:08.43 Glenn: Thank you. 00:36:08.46\00:36:09.80 Good afternoon or evening and thank you for taking my call. 00:36:09.83\00:36:13.03 Doug: Yes, thank you. 00:36:13.07\00:36:14.57 Glenn: It's at some point in eternity, the eternal Yahweh 00:36:14.60\00:36:19.74 started a time capsule with when he created the logos or 00:36:19.77\00:36:24.21 the Word. 00:36:24.25\00:36:26.38 And they created it together. 00:36:26.41\00:36:28.75 They created everything that has been created according to the 00:36:28.78\00:36:32.02 book of John chapter 1. 00:36:32.05\00:36:34.69 Someplace 4000 years down the road, there's a connection 00:36:34.72\00:36:39.29 between the logos and the incarnate Yeshua. 00:36:39.33\00:36:45.50 Doug: So, how would you like to frame that into a question? 00:36:45.53\00:36:48.87 Glenn: He refers to himself as being created in the chapter 00:36:48.90\00:36:53.84 3:14 of Revelation, 00:36:53.88\00:36:56.91 and also the Alpha and Omega. 00:36:56.95\00:36:59.85 And the question is, the Alpha, I understand that. 00:36:59.88\00:37:03.39 It is easy to understand. 00:37:03.42\00:37:05.22 But what does it mean that Yeshua is the Omega, the end? 00:37:05.25\00:37:08.82 What does he mean by that? 00:37:08.86\00:37:10.49 Doug: All right, well, first thing when it talks about 00:37:10.53\00:37:12.56 Jesus being the beginning of the creation of God that you 00:37:12.59\00:37:15.30 read in Revelation 14, I'm sorry, Revelation, I think 00:37:15.33\00:37:18.47 it's 3:14, yeah. 00:37:18.50\00:37:20.67 That doesn't mean that Christ was created. 00:37:20.70\00:37:23.34 It says, "All things that were made were made by him." 00:37:23.37\00:37:26.17 Well, if he was created before that, it would, He would say, 00:37:26.21\00:37:29.54 "All things except Myself." 00:37:29.58\00:37:32.31 And the Bible tells us God is love. 00:37:32.35\00:37:34.65 If God the Father existed at some point in eternity before 00:37:34.68\00:37:38.32 Jesus, then who did He love? 00:37:38.35\00:37:40.46 You can't have love for only yourself. 00:37:40.49\00:37:43.59 It's that love must be expressed. 00:37:43.63\00:37:45.03 So, "Jesus is," the Bible says, "from everlasting 00:37:45.06\00:37:48.06 to everlasting." 00:37:48.10\00:37:49.43 Now, the reason he uses the phrase--he says, "I am the Alpha 00:37:49.46\00:37:51.83 and Omega," He's called the Word of God, and every word in the 00:37:51.87\00:37:56.84 Greek alphabet, it started with alpha and the last letter 00:37:56.87\00:37:59.61 was omega. 00:37:59.64\00:38:01.08 Like we would say, "He is the A to Z in the Word of God." 00:38:01.11\00:38:04.65 He encompasses--every Word of God is composed in Him. 00:38:04.68\00:38:07.98 He's the embodiment. 00:38:08.02\00:38:09.45 It doesn't mean that when you got to the word omega, that now 00:38:09.48\00:38:13.02 you've got to the end of the alphabet and that Jesus is going 00:38:13.05\00:38:15.22 to end. 00:38:15.26\00:38:16.59 And the word alpha did not mean that he had a beginning. 00:38:16.62\00:38:19.66 So, Christ is without beginning. 00:38:19.69\00:38:21.76 He is from everlasting to everlasting. 00:38:21.80\00:38:24.37 He is eternal God. 00:38:24.40\00:38:26.00 He's self-existent. 00:38:26.03\00:38:27.37 He's the Creator of all things. 00:38:27.40\00:38:29.34 And yeah, hope that we had that in our book, "The Trinity" talks 00:38:29.37\00:38:33.17 about that, "One God or Three?" 00:38:33.21\00:38:36.18 We can send you, Glenn, a free copy of that. 00:38:36.21\00:38:39.31 Jëan: The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:38:39.35\00:38:42.62 And again, you can ask for the book on the "Trinity: One God or 00:38:42.65\00:38:45.92 Three?" and we'll send that to you. 00:38:45.95\00:38:47.72 You can dial #250 on your smartphone and say, "Bible 00:38:47.76\00:38:51.19 Answers Live," and then ask for the book that way. 00:38:51.23\00:38:54.46 Thank you for calling. 00:38:54.46\00:38:55.76 Next caller we have is Kate in California. 00:38:55.80\00:38:57.47 Kate, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:38:57.50\00:38:59.03 Kate: Thank you. 00:38:59.07\00:39:01.00 Would you please comment on Daniel 11:45, the meaning of 00:39:01.04\00:39:08.54 that text? 00:39:08.58\00:39:10.05 Doug: All right, thanks a lot. 00:39:10.08\00:39:11.41 You gave us a really difficult passage, but we'll do our best. 00:39:11.45\00:39:15.25 Now, it's talking about this battle. 00:39:15.28\00:39:17.09 When you begin Daniel, where does it start? 00:39:17.12\00:39:20.12 Daniel 10, where it talks about the North and the South, or 11? 00:39:20.16\00:39:22.49 Jëan: 11, it starts there. 00:39:22.52\00:39:24.03 Doug: Daniel 11 it starts. 00:39:24.06\00:39:25.36 Pastor Ross just wrote a series of lessons on Daniel. 00:39:25.39\00:39:28.36 And Daniel 11 talks about this ongoing battle between the king 00:39:28.40\00:39:31.47 of the North and the South. 00:39:31.50\00:39:32.97 And this starts with the generals of Alexander. 00:39:33.00\00:39:36.34 Alexander's kingdom divides among four generals, and finally 00:39:36.37\00:39:39.94 it melts down to two that are at war. 00:39:39.97\00:39:42.81 Israel was surrounded by an ocean on the west and a great 00:39:42.84\00:39:47.95 desert on the east. 00:39:47.98\00:39:49.28 So, all of their invading forces came from the north of 00:39:49.32\00:39:51.62 the south. 00:39:51.65\00:39:52.99 Even Nebuchadnezzar was technically northeast. 00:39:53.02\00:39:55.49 He came from the north. 00:39:55.52\00:39:56.86 He was called a king of the north, or they'd come from Egypt 00:39:56.89\00:39:59.53 or Ethiopia, they'd come from the south. 00:39:59.56\00:40:02.73 And it goes back and forth between the king of the north 00:40:02.76\00:40:05.57 and south. 00:40:05.60\00:40:06.94 Eventually, it tells us that this king of the north, the 00:40:06.97\00:40:10.01 Greeks are overcome by the Romans, and the king of the 00:40:10.04\00:40:12.67 north is being run by the Roman Caesars, what we would call 00:40:12.71\00:40:15.98 pagan Rome. 00:40:16.01\00:40:17.68 I think in Daniel 11, it even references Augustus Caesar, a 00:40:17.71\00:40:20.98 collector of taxes. 00:40:21.02\00:40:22.35 Is that right? 00:40:22.38\00:40:23.69 And then it goes on and it talks about it transitioning to 00:40:23.72\00:40:27.96 papal Rome. 00:40:27.99\00:40:29.69 So, papal Rome is the king of the north. 00:40:29.72\00:40:32.46 So, now let me go to your verse in verse 45. 00:40:32.49\00:40:34.93 It says, "He'll plant the tent," or the tabernacle, "of his 00:40:34.96\00:40:37.40 palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; and yet 00:40:37.43\00:40:42.77 he will come to his end, and no one will help him." 00:40:42.80\00:40:46.01 Well, it talks about the holy mountain between the seas. 00:40:46.04\00:40:50.85 Jerusalem was thought of as being between Galilee, the Dead 00:40:50.88\00:40:54.28 Sea, and the Mediterranean, that high ground there. 00:40:54.32\00:40:57.55 And waters biblically represent people. 00:40:57.59\00:41:00.76 And, stop me, you may have a little different view on this, 00:41:00.79\00:41:03.36 so I'll be happy to entertain that. 00:41:03.39\00:41:05.86 And so, it's talking about this counterfeit power that is 00:41:05.89\00:41:09.20 wanting worship. 00:41:09.23\00:41:10.57 You read in 1 Thessalonians that he sits in the temple of God, 00:41:10.60\00:41:14.37 showing himself that he is God, wanting worship, and it's 00:41:14.40\00:41:17.41 talking about planting his tabernacle there, putting 00:41:17.44\00:41:20.48 himself in the place of God. 00:41:20.51\00:41:22.21 And yet finally, he will come to his end. 00:41:22.24\00:41:24.85 Jëan: Yeah, absolutely, pastor. 00:41:24.88\00:41:26.28 And of course, from verse 40 onwards, it talks about the time 00:41:26.31\00:41:29.02 of the end and the king of the North and the South, and they'll 00:41:29.05\00:41:31.52 go back and forth. 00:41:31.55\00:41:33.29 We understand from verse 40 through to verse 45 has yet a 00:41:33.32\00:41:36.69 future application. 00:41:36.73\00:41:38.03 It hasn't met it's fulfillment, it's prophetic fulfillment 00:41:38.06\00:41:41.70 because when you get to chapter 12, verse 1, you have the close 00:41:41.73\00:41:43.97 of probation. 00:41:44.00\00:41:45.33 That's when Michael stands up. 00:41:45.37\00:41:46.67 So, yes, there is some discussion. 00:41:46.70\00:41:48.70 It does appear from those verses that there's some kind of a 00:41:48.74\00:41:51.47 showdown that takes place. 00:41:51.51\00:41:53.68 Some have seen the king of the North, as you mentioned, 00:41:53.71\00:41:55.98 representing the papal power, but the papal power with the 00:41:56.01\00:41:58.71 backing of the Western nations or the Christian nations, the 00:41:58.75\00:42:03.39 military of which, like NATO, for example, the king of the 00:42:03.42\00:42:06.59 South, representing on a spiritual level, representing 00:42:06.62\00:42:11.03 Islam as being the main religion with the backing of the 00:42:11.06\00:42:14.13 so-called atheistic nations like China and Russia. 00:42:14.20\00:42:18.00 And yet we are talking about something yet in the future, but 00:42:18.03\00:42:21.20 it brings you right up till the very close of probation when 00:42:21.24\00:42:24.87 Michael stands up and Jesus said, "He that is holy, let him 00:42:24.91\00:42:27.51 be holy still." 00:42:27.54\00:42:28.88 So, I think we'll have a clear understanding of these verses as 00:42:28.91\00:42:31.48 we get closer to the fulfillment of what's been described. 00:42:31.51\00:42:34.85 But it does appear that there will be some kind of law or 00:42:34.88\00:42:37.62 legislation passed that brings the whole world together in a 00:42:37.65\00:42:41.79 certain form of worship. 00:42:41.82\00:42:43.59 It talks about tidings from the east and the west 00:42:43.63\00:42:46.09 trouble him. 00:42:46.13\00:42:47.46 So, it's a big study, but there's a number of aspects 00:42:47.50\00:42:49.96 connected with that. 00:42:50.00\00:42:51.33 But I think the bulk of this is yet future in its application. 00:42:51.37\00:42:53.70 Doug: Yeah, but it's exciting to think that we're living probably 00:42:53.74\00:42:56.17 between verse 42 and chapter 12. 00:42:56.20\00:42:59.11 Jëan: Yeah, we're getting right there. 00:42:59.14\00:43:01.01 Doug: We are living right near the end. 00:43:01.04\00:43:02.91 That's exciting. 00:43:02.94\00:43:04.28 All right, well, thank you so much. 00:43:04.31\00:43:05.61 Hope that makes sense. 00:43:05.65\00:43:06.98 And your lessons are going to come out fairly soon, I think, 00:43:07.02\00:43:08.65 on Daniel. 00:43:08.68\00:43:09.98 Jëan: Yeah, they can check them out at Amazing Facts. 00:43:10.02\00:43:11.72 I think in the next couple of months they should have 00:43:11.75\00:43:13.79 them done. 00:43:13.82\00:43:15.16 Elizabeth in Arizona. 00:43:15.19\00:43:16.49 Elizabeth, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:43:16.52\00:43:17.86 Elizabeth: Hi, thank you. 00:43:17.89\00:43:20.03 I listen to you guys all the time. 00:43:20.06\00:43:22.23 Doug: Thanks so much. 00:43:22.26\00:43:23.57 My question is, my former pastor says that when he preaches on 00:43:23.60\00:43:28.04 Sundays, that's not a day of rest for him at all, and I've 00:43:28.07\00:43:32.41 always been curious as to how you personally, you guys 00:43:32.44\00:43:36.38 personally reconcile that. 00:43:36.41\00:43:37.81 I feel for you and I appreciate the service any pastor does on 00:43:37.85\00:43:42.82 the day of the--what they, you know, how do you get a Sabbath 00:43:42.85\00:43:48.39 when you work so hard? 00:43:48.42\00:43:50.19 Doug: That's a fair question. 00:43:50.23\00:43:51.56 You know, Jesus addresses that too. 00:43:51.59\00:43:53.80 Jesus would heal people on the Sabbath, and he'd teach on the 00:43:53.83\00:43:56.30 Sabbath, and they accused him of breaking the Sabbath. 00:43:56.33\00:43:58.80 He said it's okay to do good on the Sabbath. 00:43:58.83\00:44:01.27 And then Christ says something that is interesting. 00:44:01.30\00:44:04.27 He said, "The priests profane the Sabbath and are guiltless." 00:44:04.31\00:44:09.34 Now, what he meant by that was on the Sabbath day in the 00:44:09.38\00:44:12.31 temple, one of the things they did is they offered a sacrifice. 00:44:12.35\00:44:16.05 Well, to have the sacrifice, the priest would sacrifice 00:44:16.08\00:44:19.69 a victim. 00:44:19.72\00:44:21.06 They would then butcher the victim. 00:44:21.09\00:44:22.39 They had to have the fire going to put the victim on the fire, 00:44:22.42\00:44:25.33 so they were hauling and stoking the fire with wood. 00:44:25.36\00:44:28.50 So, the priests had busy activities on the Sabbath, but 00:44:28.53\00:44:31.40 Jesus said, "They're doing what was necessary to do that the 00:44:31.43\00:44:35.34 greater group may worship." 00:44:35.37\00:44:37.74 And that they profane, in other words, they're working on the 00:44:37.77\00:44:40.48 Sabbath, but they are guiltless. 00:44:40.51\00:44:42.41 So, there's some work that is required on the Sabbath. 00:44:42.44\00:44:45.61 You know, in our church, sometimes we have several 00:44:45.65\00:44:47.55 different services, and our deacons--bless their hearts-- 00:44:47.58\00:44:50.49 they have to pick up chairs and put chairs down between services 00:44:50.52\00:44:53.46 for different--move them to different rooms. 00:44:53.49\00:44:54.96 We just don't have enough chairs, 00:44:54.99\00:44:56.46 and they're not breaking the Sabbath. 00:44:56.49\00:44:57.79 They're doing some of the Levitical work, you might say, 00:44:57.83\00:45:00.76 on the Sabbath day. 00:45:00.80\00:45:02.06 And we're doing what we have to do that the greater group 00:45:02.10\00:45:04.27 might worship. 00:45:04.30\00:45:05.63 Now, after, you know, church yesterday and you preach and you 00:45:05.67\00:45:10.14 teach and I gave a Bible study. 00:45:10.17\00:45:13.04 I go home and I eat and I take a nap. 00:45:13.07\00:45:15.11 Then I came back for doing worship for the family night. 00:45:15.14\00:45:18.35 And so, you know, you get rest, and-- 00:45:18.38\00:45:23.55 Jëan: But it is a busy day. 00:45:23.59\00:45:24.89 Doug: It is a busy day, yeah. 00:45:24.92\00:45:26.55 But we'll take a little more time off on a Monday 00:45:26.59\00:45:28.49 or something. 00:45:28.52\00:45:29.82 So, you'll get your other projects done. 00:45:29.86\00:45:31.86 Jëan: It's good to have time with the family and you can rest 00:45:31.89\00:45:34.63 and do different things. 00:45:34.66\00:45:35.96 But yes, being a pastor, your main priority, probably your 00:45:36.00\00:45:38.83 busiest day, is on the Sabbath when you're involved in worship. 00:45:38.87\00:45:43.87 All right, thank you, Elizabeth. 00:45:43.91\00:45:45.24 We've got James in Arizona. 00:45:45.27\00:45:46.57 James, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:45:46.61\00:45:48.04 James: Hey, I've got a question for you guys, and I can 00:45:48.08\00:45:52.78 clarify this a little bit if you need me to, but it seems like 00:45:52.81\00:45:56.85 there's a bunch, with even within people who call 00:45:56.89\00:46:00.52 themselves Christian, there's a bunch of different versions like 00:46:00.56\00:46:03.79 one Jesus, you have to be baptized and take sacraments, 00:46:03.83\00:46:06.63 and another one, you just say a prayer, and then one turns you 00:46:06.66\00:46:11.47 into a god through theosis, like, and the other one is like 00:46:11.50\00:46:14.74 washing you in blood and kind of, like, making a deal with the 00:46:14.77\00:46:19.01 Father to get you into heaven. 00:46:19.04\00:46:21.31 Like, how do you know which interpretation is correct 00:46:21.34\00:46:24.25 because they're mutually exclusive. 00:46:24.28\00:46:26.75 Doug: Yeah, well, that's all the more reason to find out--well, 00:46:26.78\00:46:29.35 let me back up and say, what do you think would be the criteria 00:46:29.38\00:46:33.86 that we would use to find the answer? 00:46:33.89\00:46:36.02 Would it be Pastor Doug on the radio? 00:46:36.06\00:46:38.76 Would it be a preacher in the pulpit? 00:46:38.79\00:46:40.46 Or would it be the Bible? 00:46:40.50\00:46:44.13 James: Well, since they all appeal to the Bible, we can't 00:46:44.17\00:46:48.40 use the Bible because I'm asking about how we interpret the 00:46:48.44\00:46:51.74 Bible, right? 00:46:51.77\00:46:53.24 So, it's--since even Muslims believe that Christ is the 00:46:53.27\00:46:56.51 Messiah, and they interpret the Bible differently. 00:46:56.54\00:46:59.71 Doug: Well, they're not using the Bible to--if you use the 00:46:59.75\00:47:02.72 Bible as your final authority, then the answers 00:47:02.75\00:47:05.95 become very clear. 00:47:05.99\00:47:07.49 And--but if you try to, and, you know, I used to do this before I 00:47:07.52\00:47:10.49 was a Christian, I would try and co mingle all the holy books and 00:47:10.53\00:47:13.16 it just creates chaos. 00:47:13.19\00:47:14.86 You try and get the Bhagavad Gita and the Quran and the Bible 00:47:14.93\00:47:20.24 and you try and make sense of it all and it's just--it's going to 00:47:20.27\00:47:23.47 leave you in confusion. 00:47:23.51\00:47:24.84 But if you look at the simple teachings of Jesus by yourself, 00:47:24.87\00:47:28.28 you open up your Bible and you go to Matthew chapter 1. 00:47:28.31\00:47:32.85 Read the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus gives about loving 00:47:32.88\00:47:35.62 your enemy. 00:47:35.65\00:47:36.95 It's not complicated. 00:47:36.99\00:47:38.55 It's not the mysteries in the Bible that is going to cause 00:47:38.59\00:47:43.43 the confusion. 00:47:43.46\00:47:45.16 It's the good we know we should do that we ignore. 00:47:45.19\00:47:48.26 So, it's not that complicated 00:47:48.30\00:47:50.03 when you just read it for yourself. 00:47:50.07\00:47:51.33 Jëan: And, you know, I was just reading the Gospel of John, and 00:47:51.37\00:47:53.84 some of the clearest statements about Christ, His mission, His 00:47:53.87\00:47:57.01 life, His death, how to be saved, it's so clearly given in 00:47:57.04\00:48:01.34 the Gospel of John. 00:48:01.38\00:48:02.68 Even Jesus, speaking to the religious leaders of His time, 00:48:02.71\00:48:05.01 and He's putting His position, His relationship to His 00:48:05.05\00:48:08.48 Father clearly. 00:48:08.52\00:48:10.45 He's presenting it to the religious leaders, 00:48:10.49\00:48:11.79 "I and My Father one. 00:48:11.82\00:48:13.12 Just I'm very powerful if--unless you believe in me, 00:48:13.15\00:48:16.09 you can have life." 00:48:16.12\00:48:17.43 So, we've got to let the Bible interpret itself. 00:48:17.46\00:48:18.96 I think part of the problem is people listen to a lot of other 00:48:18.99\00:48:21.80 people give their interpretation of the Bible instead of going to 00:48:21.83\00:48:25.27 the Word itself and reading Scripture and allowing the 00:48:25.30\00:48:28.57 Scripture to explain itself. 00:48:28.60\00:48:29.94 You read one verse, and if you don't understand it, then look 00:48:29.97\00:48:32.67 up other verses on the same topic, and it'll bring it 00:48:32.71\00:48:34.81 to light. 00:48:34.84\00:48:36.18 Doug: Yeah, and you know, the bottom line is, what does the 00:48:36.21\00:48:38.41 Bible say? 00:48:38.45\00:48:39.78 Jesus said in John 17:17, you were just quoting the book of 00:48:39.81\00:48:42.92 John, "Sanctify them by thy truth. 00:48:42.95\00:48:46.25 Your word is truth." 00:48:46.29\00:48:48.49 Ten percent of everything Jesus said, He's quoting from the 00:48:48.52\00:48:50.96 Old Testament. 00:48:50.99\00:48:52.33 He's quoting from the Bible. 00:48:52.36\00:48:53.66 And then He tells us that His words are truth. 00:48:53.70\00:48:58.83 The apostles said that it's--the Bible's not just normal words. 00:48:58.87\00:49:04.04 Holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost, and 00:49:04.07\00:49:06.37 this book has been preserved in a special way. 00:49:06.41\00:49:09.28 If you read it for yourself, you will understand. 00:49:09.31\00:49:12.65 I was living in a cave 17 years old, all confused by the, you 00:49:12.68\00:49:16.85 know, who was God and the different religions. 00:49:16.89\00:49:19.22 Someone had left a Bible up in the cave, along with some other 00:49:19.25\00:49:22.02 camping gear. 00:49:22.06\00:49:23.43 And I started reading the Bible so I could argue with 00:49:23.46\00:49:26.06 Christians, and that's what changed my life. 00:49:26.09\00:49:28.33 So, the power is in the Word by itself. 00:49:28.36\00:49:31.93 All right, thank you for your call, James. 00:49:31.97\00:49:33.37 Great question. 00:49:33.40\00:49:34.74 We've got Michaelyn in New Jersey. 00:49:34.77\00:49:37.27 Michaelyn, welcome to the program. 00:49:37.31\00:49:38.67 Michaelyn: Hi. 00:49:38.71\00:49:40.48 I want to know, was Job Jewish or Gentile? 00:49:40.51\00:49:45.51 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:49:45.55\00:49:47.55 Sort of in between. 00:49:47.58\00:49:49.12 He was not a Jew in that he was not from the tribe of Judah, but 00:49:49.15\00:49:52.79 when you look at the other characters in the book of Job, 00:49:52.82\00:49:56.52 they are descendants of Esau, which was a child of Abraham. 00:49:56.56\00:50:01.10 You know, Abraham, of course, had Isaac, and Isaac had Jacob 00:50:01.13\00:50:04.43 and Esau, and the descendants of Esau went to Edom, and near Edom 00:50:04.47\00:50:08.90 was the land of Uz where Job lived. 00:50:08.94\00:50:11.34 And matter of fact, in the genealogies of Esau, it talks 00:50:11.37\00:50:14.84 about someone named Jobab and the wondering was that Job, and 00:50:14.88\00:50:20.12 it talks about his friends are mentioned in that 00:50:20.15\00:50:22.28 same genealogy. 00:50:22.32\00:50:23.55 So, he was a child, a descendant of Abraham and Isaac, but he was 00:50:23.59\00:50:29.52 not from the tribe of Judah or a descendant of Israel. 00:50:29.56\00:50:32.59 Thanks, great question. 00:50:32.63\00:50:33.96 Hope that helps a little bit, Michaelyn. 00:50:34.00\00:50:35.73 Jëan: We've got Joseph in Florida. 00:50:35.76\00:50:37.23 Joseph, welcome to "Bible Answer Life." 00:50:37.27\00:50:39.20 Joseph: Hello. 00:50:39.23\00:50:40.54 How are you, pastors? 00:50:40.57\00:50:42.07 Doug: We're doing great. 00:50:42.10\00:50:43.44 Thanks for calling. 00:50:43.47\00:50:44.77 Joseph: Thank you. 00:50:44.81\00:50:46.14 My question is, at the Second Coming, when Christ comes back, 00:50:46.17\00:50:50.75 He's coming in all the glory of the Father, the Holy Spirit, and 00:50:50.78\00:50:53.55 the angels. 00:50:53.58\00:50:54.92 And it says, "And when He had opened the seventh seal, there 00:50:54.95\00:50:58.62 was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour." 00:50:58.65\00:51:02.36 Does that mean that Enoch, Elijah, and Moses will also be 00:51:02.39\00:51:07.23 at the Second Coming since Moses and Elijah were at 00:51:07.30\00:51:10.60 the transfiguration? 00:51:10.63\00:51:12.03 Doug: Well, it's a good question. 00:51:12.07\00:51:13.37 I had not thought of that, but if I was Enoch, Moses, and 00:51:13.40\00:51:17.51 Elijah, who are in heaven now, and I knew Jesus was coming 00:51:17.54\00:51:21.41 back, if there was an empty seat on the plane, I'd ask if I could 00:51:21.44\00:51:24.75 get a ticket. 00:51:24.78\00:51:26.08 I'd sure like to be there and see that. 00:51:26.11\00:51:27.65 So, I would expect, you know, Moses was extremely interested 00:51:27.68\00:51:30.45 in the children of Israel making it to the Promised Land. 00:51:30.49\00:51:33.96 He's probably going to want a front row seat for that. 00:51:33.99\00:51:37.46 So, my guess is, yes. 00:51:37.49\00:51:39.16 You want to comment on that? 00:51:39.19\00:51:40.50 What's the silence in heaven? 00:51:40.53\00:51:41.83 Jëan: Yeah, the reason there's silence in heaven is because 00:51:41.86\00:51:43.50 Christ and all the angels and, quite possibly, Enoch, Elijah, 00:51:43.53\00:51:46.97 and Moses, they've all left. 00:51:47.00\00:51:49.00 And if anyone is still in heaven--God the Father is in 00:51:49.04\00:51:51.84 heaven, and of course, He can witness what's happening-- 00:51:51.87\00:51:54.21 the focus is going to be on Christ and his journey to the 00:51:54.24\00:51:56.64 earth to gather up the saints and take them back to the 00:51:56.68\00:51:58.98 Father's house. 00:51:59.01\00:52:00.38 So, that seems to be the focus. 00:52:00.42\00:52:02.12 Silence in heaven for about the space of half an hour works out 00:52:02.15\00:52:04.89 to about seven days of time. 00:52:04.92\00:52:07.12 So, it's not that it's three and a half days for Jesus to come 00:52:07.16\00:52:10.33 from heaven to earth and then three and a half days to 00:52:10.36\00:52:12.16 go back. 00:52:12.19\00:52:13.50 Christ can come very quickly, but it seems as though He takes 00:52:13.53\00:52:16.30 the longer route back home. 00:52:16.33\00:52:17.83 Maybe there's some things He wants to teach us. 00:52:17.87\00:52:20.17 Doug: How do you get seven days out of half an hour? 00:52:20.20\00:52:23.51 Jëan: Well the reason being is because you have one prophetic 00:52:23.54\00:52:26.88 day is equal to 1 literal year, and they have 360 Hebrew days in 00:52:26.91\00:52:30.91 a year, and there's 24 hours in the day, and one hour works out 00:52:30.95\00:52:35.18 to about 15 days, and a half an hour would be half of that. 00:52:35.22\00:52:39.45 So, you make up the week. Did I say-- 00:52:39.49\00:52:42.29 Doug: Yeah, I want you to explain that for people. 00:52:42.32\00:52:44.63 Jëan: Yeah, hopefully they can get that seven days. 00:52:44.66\00:52:46.86 Doug: That made sense. 00:52:46.90\00:52:48.20 All right, what's next? 00:52:48.23\00:52:49.53 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Dawn 00:52:49.56\00:52:50.87 in California. 00:52:50.90\00:52:52.27 Dawn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:52:52.30\00:52:53.60 Dawn: Hi, pastors, how are you tonight? 00:52:53.64\00:52:56.24 Doug: Better than we deserve. 00:52:56.27\00:52:58.54 Dawn: I have a question on when, let's see, it was John 8, 00:52:58.57\00:53:04.55 verses 1 through 11 were added to the manuscripts because the 00:53:04.58\00:53:07.98 earliest manuscripts I read, it was not in there. 00:53:08.02\00:53:11.82 Doug: Yeah, that's--I would just say, don't believe 00:53:11.85\00:53:14.89 those commentaries. 00:53:14.92\00:53:17.36 The reason they say that, and it's not just John 8, they'll 00:53:17.39\00:53:19.86 also say the last few verses in Mark chapter 16, they say, "Well 00:53:19.89\00:53:23.30 that's not in some manuscripts." 00:53:23.33\00:53:24.77 And so, some of the modern translations just leave 00:53:24.80\00:53:27.60 that out. 00:53:27.64\00:53:28.94 That's very unfortunate because one of the most incredible 00:53:28.97\00:53:31.11 stories in the Bible is John chapter 8, the first few verses. 00:53:31.14\00:53:35.04 This woman is caught in the act of adultery. 00:53:35.08\00:53:38.08 And Jesus said, "He that is without sin, let him cast the 00:53:38.11\00:53:41.45 first stone." 00:53:41.48\00:53:43.52 It's believed that some of the Austere church leaders, when 00:53:43.55\00:53:49.56 they read that hundreds of years after Christ, it was in the 00:53:49.59\00:53:51.93 Scriptures, they said, "Wow, that sounds like Jesus is 00:53:51.96\00:53:54.93 forgiving adultery," and they just said, "Let's expunge that. 00:53:54.96\00:53:59.03 Let's lose that first few verses there. 00:53:59.07\00:54:01.37 We don't want it to make it sound like he said, I'm not 00:54:01.40\00:54:03.47 going to condemn you for adultery." 00:54:03.51\00:54:05.64 And so, some of the church fathers thought, "Well, let's 00:54:05.67\00:54:08.24 just take that out of some of the Vaticanus or some of the 00:54:08.28\00:54:10.88 other translations." 00:54:10.91\00:54:12.25 But it was in the earliest. 00:54:12.28\00:54:14.42 Jëan: There's two groups of manuscripts. 00:54:14.45\00:54:15.85 You have what's called the Byzantine family, which was more 00:54:15.88\00:54:18.25 in modern day Turkey. 00:54:18.29\00:54:19.85 And then you have the Alexandrian text, which is 00:54:19.89\00:54:22.49 much smaller. 00:54:22.52\00:54:23.83 There's much fewer manuscripts in Alexandria in Egypt. 00:54:23.86\00:54:26.86 However, the oldest manuscripts are from the Alexandria because 00:54:26.90\00:54:30.33 the temperature was dry and desert-like. 00:54:30.37\00:54:32.77 But there were some questions related to those manuscripts. 00:54:32.80\00:54:35.77 So, that's maybe one of the reasons people say, "Well the 00:54:35.80\00:54:38.07 oldest manuscripts don't know this passage." 00:54:38.11\00:54:39.81 Well there are so many other manuscripts, part of the 00:54:39.84\00:54:42.51 Byzantine family, that do have this passage, that it's pretty 00:54:42.54\00:54:45.55 evident that it was in the original. 00:54:45.58\00:54:47.12 Doug: Yeah, and there are some slightly newer manuscripts that 00:54:47.15\00:54:50.85 were copied from originals. 00:54:50.89\00:54:53.12 So, they're actually more accurate. 00:54:53.15\00:54:55.26 And--but yeah, the story, it bleeds Jesus. 00:54:55.29\00:55:01.30 And so, yeah, I believe it is, 00:55:01.33\00:55:03.80 it's very much like what He said. 00:55:03.83\00:55:05.13 He actually says to other people, "Go and sin no more." 00:55:05.17\00:55:08.07 You "know, He said, Lest the the worst thing to come upon you." 00:55:08.10\00:55:10.21 So, it all fits with the narrative of Christ. 00:55:10.24\00:55:14.01 Jëan: You know, we do have a book that talks about the Bible. 00:55:14.04\00:55:15.91 It's called "The Ultimate Resource," and it talks about 00:55:15.94\00:55:17.98 different Bible translations and manuscripts and answers a lot of 00:55:18.01\00:55:21.12 these questions. 00:55:21.15\00:55:22.38 If you'd like to receive it, the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:55:22.42\00:55:26.29 This is for anyone. 00:55:26.32\00:55:27.62 It's just a great study. 00:55:27.66\00:55:28.99 800-835-6747. 00:55:29.02\00:55:30.89 You can ask for that book. 00:55:30.93\00:55:32.26 It's called "The Ultimate Resource," or you can dial #250 00:55:32.29\00:55:35.60 on your smartphone and say, "Bible answers live," and then 00:55:35.63\00:55:39.17 ask for that manuscript or that book by name, and you'll learn 00:55:39.20\00:55:42.30 about the manuscripts that the Bible is copied from. 00:55:42.34\00:55:47.14 Doug: Very good. 00:55:47.18\00:55:48.88 You know, I wrote a book. 00:55:48.91\00:55:50.68 One reason I'm also passionate about that question is I wrote a 00:55:50.71\00:55:53.42 book years ago that just was near and dear to my heart, and 00:55:53.45\00:55:56.62 it's talking about at Jesus's feet, the Gospel According to 00:55:56.65\00:55:59.95 Mary Magdalene. 00:56:00.06\00:56:01.29 And I put forth a hypothesis in that book that Mary of Bethany, 00:56:01.32\00:56:06.59 Mary Magdalen were the same Mary, and that woman caught in 00:56:06.63\00:56:11.43 the act of adultery could have been Mary Magdalene. 00:56:11.47\00:56:15.70 And they didn't say her name because, well, that would 00:56:15.74\00:56:17.77 obviously be an embarrassing circumstance. 00:56:17.81\00:56:20.68 And so, yeah. 00:56:20.71\00:56:22.24 I did a lot of research on that particular story and its origin. 00:56:22.28\00:56:26.88 And I do believe that you don't have to question whether John 00:56:26.92\00:56:30.49 chapter 8, verses 1 through 11 or Mark 16, I think they are. 00:56:30.52\00:56:33.72 King James had it right. 00:56:33.76\00:56:35.06 They were all part of the Scriptures. 00:56:35.09\00:56:36.56 Jëan: All right, Pastor Doug, we've got another 00:56:36.59\00:56:37.89 email question. 00:56:37.93\00:56:39.26 And this one's got two parts. 00:56:39.29\00:56:41.00 So, maybe you can take them one by one. 00:56:41.03\00:56:42.86 The first question is, "Does every person have a 00:56:42.90\00:56:45.17 guardian angel?" 00:56:45.20\00:56:46.50 And, "What Bible verse might be used?" 00:56:46.53\00:56:48.90 And then the next question would be, "What do these angels do?" 00:56:48.94\00:56:52.67 They guard us, but is there anything else that they do? 00:56:52.71\00:56:55.61 Doug: Yeah, well I believe that everyone does have a 00:56:55.64\00:56:58.01 guardian angel. 00:56:58.05\00:56:59.51 You can read that it says in Psalm 91, "The angel of the Lord 00:56:59.55\00:57:03.25 encamps round about him that fears Him." 00:57:03.28\00:57:06.76 And then Jesus, speaking of the children, He says, "Their 00:57:06.79\00:57:09.36 angels," making it sound like every child's got an angel. 00:57:09.39\00:57:13.43 "Their angels do behold the face of My Father which is 00:57:13.46\00:57:15.73 in heaven." 00:57:15.76\00:57:17.10 And there's so many times when someone's eyes were opened and 00:57:17.13\00:57:20.64 then they see angels that are there. 00:57:20.67\00:57:24.21 It was, I believe, angels that were guiding the wise men when 00:57:24.24\00:57:28.51 they saw that star. 00:57:28.54\00:57:29.88 This moving star was not a comet or something. 00:57:29.91\00:57:33.35 Astronomers trying to say, "Oh well, I wonder what comet 00:57:33.38\00:57:35.38 happened that year." 00:57:35.42\00:57:36.72 I think it was a band of angels that they saw. 00:57:36.75\00:57:39.35 So, when Elisha said, "Open his eyes," his servant. 00:57:39.39\00:57:44.66 He was so worried about the Syrian army, and God opened the 00:57:44.69\00:57:47.60 eyes of Elisha's servant. 00:57:47.66\00:57:49.10 He saw the hills and the mountains were filled with 00:57:49.13\00:57:51.17 chariots and horses of fire. 00:57:51.20\00:57:53.07 They were surrounded by angels. 00:57:53.10\00:57:54.94 So, a lot more angels out there. 00:57:54.97\00:57:56.97 Good thing there's twice as many good angels as bad ones. 00:57:57.01\00:57:59.67 So, you don't have to be afraid, friends. 00:57:59.71\00:58:01.31 God willing, we'll talk about it again next week. 00:58:01.34\00:58:03.71 male announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:58:06.35\00:58:08.92 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:58:08.95\00:58:12.62 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts 00:58:12.65\00:58:15.69 International, a faith-based ministry located in
