00:00:39.03\00:00:44.51 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.54\00:00:48.08 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.25 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:50.28\00:00:51.58 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:00:51.61\00:00:52.95 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:52.98\00:00:55.38 Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president, was probably among 00:00:55.42\00:00:59.35 the most remarkable US leaders. 00:00:59.39\00:01:02.06 After all, you don't get your head on Mount Rushmore without 00:01:02.09\00:01:04.73 a good reason. 00:01:04.76\00:01:06.19 Roosevelt came from a wealthy family, but his character was 00:01:06.23\00:01:09.50 forged through many difficult experiences. 00:01:09.53\00:01:12.60 His father, who he loved very much, died before he was 20. 00:01:12.63\00:01:16.37 Then Roosevelt survived the tragedy of losing his young wife 00:01:16.40\00:01:19.74 and his own mother to illness on the same day in 1884. 00:01:19.77\00:01:24.21 He survived malaria, exploring a tributary of the Amazon, and 00:01:24.25\00:01:28.32 a year hunting in the wilds of Africa. 00:01:28.35\00:01:30.72 He survived an extremely dangerous military charge in 00:01:30.75\00:01:33.92 Cuba in 1898, for which he won the Congressional Medal of 00:01:33.96\00:01:37.66 Honor, and he survived an assassination attempt in 1912 at 00:01:37.69\00:01:42.00 point blank range, and he went from the assassination attempt 00:01:42.03\00:01:45.83 bleeding, and delivered a speech. 00:01:45.87\00:01:48.27 In 1906, Roosevelt was the first president to win the Nobel Peace 00:01:48.30\00:01:51.87 Prize, persuading Japan and Russia to end a conflict. 00:01:51.91\00:01:55.64 Roosevelt had a virtually photographic memory. 00:01:55.68\00:01:58.78 Historians say he could recite long sections of poetry verbatim 00:01:58.81\00:02:03.02 over a decade after he read the passages. 00:02:03.05\00:02:06.12 Roosevelt was also a prolific writer, authoring 35 books, 00:02:06.15\00:02:10.19 including an autobiography, and writing an estimated 00:02:10.23\00:02:13.50 150,000 letters. 00:02:13.53\00:02:16.67 The president continued his hobby of boxing well into 00:02:16.70\00:02:19.67 his presidency. 00:02:19.70\00:02:21.14 Roosevelt was blind in one eye after a boxing injury in the 00:02:21.17\00:02:23.91 White House, so he switched to jiu-jitsu instead. 00:02:23.94\00:02:28.18 The popular teddy bear was named after President Theodore 00:02:28.21\00:02:31.65 Roosevelt because he refused to shoot an old bear. 00:02:31.68\00:02:35.18 Teddy Roosevelt is recognized as a key figure in creating the US 00:02:35.22\00:02:38.95 National Park System and was also the father of the modern 00:02:38.99\00:02:42.19 US Navy. 00:02:42.22\00:02:43.53 He sent the American Navy on a worldwide tour in 1907 as a show 00:02:43.56\00:02:47.50 of strength. 00:02:47.50\00:02:48.96 Probably his ultimate achievement was connecting the 00:02:49.00\00:02:51.93 eastern and western hemispheres by building the Panama Canal. 00:02:51.97\00:02:56.64 Even his opponents agreed he was a man of remarkable energy, 00:02:56.67\00:03:00.54 determination, and courage. 00:03:00.58\00:03:03.68 Now, he was not a perfect man, Pastor Ross. 00:03:03.71\00:03:06.31 I think his daughter said that he had a little bit of pride, 00:03:06.35\00:03:09.25 and he wanted to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at 00:03:09.28\00:03:12.45 every funeral, the center of attention, but he was a very 00:03:12.49\00:03:16.36 brilliant man and a very courageous man. 00:03:16.39\00:03:19.73 He was somewhat fearless. 00:03:19.76\00:03:21.50 And you know, I think about when Moses was dying, he encouraged 00:03:21.53\00:03:25.57 Joshua to be courageous. 00:03:25.60\00:03:28.00 Leaders need courage. 00:03:28.04\00:03:29.57 Christians need courage in this day and age. 00:03:29.60\00:03:33.21 I think about the verse when God spoke to Joshua after Moses 00:03:33.24\00:03:36.85 died, and this is Joshua 1, verse 9. 00:03:36.88\00:03:39.51 Actually, you can read verse 5 through 9, 00:03:39.55\00:03:41.28 but this is just verse 9: "Have not I commanded you? 00:03:41.32\00:03:45.52 Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, or dismayed, 00:03:45.55\00:03:50.09 for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." 00:03:50.13\00:03:53.03 What a wonderful promise. 00:03:53.06\00:03:54.36 Don't be afraid. 00:03:54.40\00:03:55.70 Jesus said, "I am with you to the end of the world." 00:03:55.73\00:03:58.07 Friends, maybe you are intimidated by the devil, 00:03:58.10\00:04:01.60 by sin, by friends that are not a good influence, and you'd like 00:04:01.64\00:04:04.87 more courage to stand for your convictions. 00:04:04.91\00:04:07.78 We've got a free offer that talks about that. 00:04:07.81\00:04:09.38 Jean Ross: We do. 00:04:09.41\00:04:10.75 The book that we have this evening that is our free gift to 00:04:10.78\00:04:12.51 anyone who calls and asks is called, "Compromise, Conformity, 00:04:12.55\00:04:15.32 and Courage: Biblical Principles for Living a Courageous 00:04:15.35\00:04:19.09 Christian Life." 00:04:19.12\00:04:20.46 If you'd like to receive that book, all you need to do is call 00:04:20.49\00:04:22.66 and ask. 00:04:22.69\00:04:23.99 The Conformity, 00:04:31.27\00:04:33.90 and Courage." 00:04:33.94\00:04:35.27 You can also dial #250 with your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:04:35.30\00:04:38.87 Live," and then you can ask for it that way as well. 00:04:38.91\00:04:42.34 Well, Pastor Doug, we've got a number of folks who are standing 00:04:42.38\00:04:44.48 by with their Bible questions, but before we go to the phone 00:04:44.51\00:04:47.22 lines, let's start with prayer. 00:04:47.25\00:04:49.25 Dear Father, we are so glad that we have this opportunity once 00:04:49.28\00:04:52.02 again to be able to study Your Word. 00:04:52.05\00:04:54.52 The Bible is truth, and Jesus said, "You shall know the truth, 00:04:54.56\00:04:57.66 and the truth will set you free." 00:04:57.69\00:04:59.39 Thank You, Father, for this opportunity to study together, 00:04:59.43\00:05:01.96 and we ask Your blessing in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:02.00\00:05:05.60 Doug: Amen. 00:05:05.63\00:05:06.97 Jean: Our first caller this evening, we've got Glen and 00:05:07.00\00:05:09.14 Linda listening in Ohio. 00:05:09.17\00:05:10.64 Glen, Linda, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:10.67\00:05:13.94 Glen: Thank you for taking my call and welcome from 00:05:13.98\00:05:16.51 Bethel, Ohio. 00:05:16.54\00:05:18.31 Doug: Thank you. 00:05:18.35\00:05:19.68 Glen: You know, there are those who believe that three, four, 00:05:19.71\00:05:22.38 maybe as many as five of the trumpets of Revelation have 00:05:22.42\00:05:26.39 already been blown, like the First World War and Second World 00:05:26.42\00:05:30.59 War, and Chernobyl, to mention a few. 00:05:30.63\00:05:33.93 But my question is, the trumpet of Matthew 24, the trumpet of 00:05:33.96\00:05:39.13 Thessalonians 4, and the seventh trumpet of Revelation, are they 00:05:39.17\00:05:45.07 the same trumpet? 00:05:45.11\00:05:46.41 That's my question. 00:05:46.44\00:05:47.74 Doug: Oh, okay. 00:05:47.78\00:05:49.21 Well, the trumpets that are spoken of in Matthew chapter 24 00:05:49.24\00:05:54.22 and in 1 Thessalonians is really talking about that trump that 00:05:54.25\00:05:58.29 calls forth the dead to life. 00:05:58.32\00:06:00.92 Now, the seven trumpets that you find in Revelation, they're-- 00:06:00.96\00:06:04.96 now, keep in mind, Revelation is a panorama of church history 00:06:04.99\00:06:08.40 from the First Coming, when the book is given, to the 00:06:08.43\00:06:11.33 Second Coming. 00:06:11.37\00:06:12.67 We're what we call historicists in our interpretation. 00:06:12.70\00:06:15.80 So you are correct that these trumpets have been being 00:06:15.84\00:06:19.91 fulfilled in segments of history. 00:06:19.94\00:06:23.38 Pastor Ross, yeah, one thing I've heard is, it's very 00:06:23.41\00:06:26.65 simplistic, but you've got a number of sevens in Revelation. 00:06:26.68\00:06:30.62 You've got seven churches, seven seals, seven trumpets, and 00:06:30.65\00:06:34.02 there's, of course seven plagues. 00:06:34.06\00:06:35.62 But the seven churches kind of give a religious history from 00:06:35.66\00:06:38.43 the First to the Second Coming. 00:06:38.46\00:06:40.23 The seven seals, more of a political history; and the seven 00:06:40.26\00:06:43.87 trumpets, something of a military history. 00:06:43.90\00:06:46.77 And so the last trumpet is the final battle where Christ comes. 00:06:46.80\00:06:51.81 Keep in mind seven trumpets were blown before Joshua took the 00:06:51.84\00:06:55.88 Promised Land, and as the seventh trumpet is blown, and 00:06:55.91\00:06:59.85 then Jesus, our Joshua, he comes and recaptures this world and 00:06:59.88\00:07:05.19 creates a new promised land, so to speak. 00:07:05.22\00:07:07.96 So, they are different, but I think you've just finished some 00:07:07.99\00:07:12.49 Daniel lessons, huh? 00:07:12.53\00:07:14.36 You have one on the trumpets. 00:07:14.40\00:07:15.73 Jean: We do, we do have some stuff on the trumpets. 00:07:15.76\00:07:18.47 Not available here yet, but really, you find the trumpets in 00:07:18.50\00:07:21.40 Daniel, sorry, Revelation chapter 8 and 9. 00:07:21.44\00:07:25.34 And as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, they do emphasize certain 00:07:25.37\00:07:27.81 issues of judgment or war. 00:07:27.84\00:07:29.88 And according to Bible prophecy in Revelation in particular, 00:07:29.91\00:07:32.61 we're living in that seventh trumpet even now with the 00:07:32.65\00:07:35.95 various current events, things happening in the world. 00:07:35.98\00:07:38.69 Under the seventh trump, but it says the nations were angry and 00:07:38.72\00:07:42.36 time of the dead that they should be judged, talks about 00:07:42.39\00:07:45.09 war and just anger. 00:07:45.13\00:07:48.03 Well, we see that all happening in our world today, and that 00:07:48.06\00:07:50.27 leads into Second Coming of Christ. 00:07:50.30\00:07:52.37 Doug: That's right. 00:07:52.40\00:07:53.74 Well, thank you so much, Glen and Linda. 00:07:53.77\00:07:56.14 And we appreciate your call. 00:07:56.17\00:07:57.67 Jean: We've got Elizabeth listening in Arizona. 00:07:57.71\00:07:59.47 Elizabeth, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:59.51\00:08:01.68 You're on the air. 00:08:01.71\00:08:03.01 Elizabeth: Hi, my question concerns Malachi chapter 4, 00:08:03.04\00:08:06.98 verse 6. 00:08:07.02\00:08:08.48 This passage terrifies me. 00:08:08.52\00:08:12.59 Doug: Okay, let me read that for our friends. 00:08:12.62\00:08:14.89 I'm going to read 5 and 6 because they kind of 00:08:14.92\00:08:16.99 go together. 00:08:17.03\00:08:18.36 Well, verse 4 says: "Remember the law of Moses, which I 00:08:18.39\00:08:21.83 commanded him in Mount Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes of 00:08:21.86\00:08:24.83 judgment--the statutes and judgment. 00:08:24.87\00:08:26.84 Behold, I send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the 00:08:26.87\00:08:29.60 great and dreadful day of the Lord." 00:08:29.64\00:08:30.94 Now let's stop there real quick. 00:08:30.97\00:08:32.91 Both these two characters, and this is the last chapter in the 00:08:32.94\00:08:36.75 last book of the Old Testament. 00:08:36.78\00:08:39.11 If you're in your Bibles and you turn the page, now you're in the 00:08:39.15\00:08:41.82 New Testament. 00:08:41.85\00:08:43.15 In the next book of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Moses and Elijah 00:08:43.18\00:08:47.92 appear to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration when he's with 00:08:47.96\00:08:51.89 Peter, James, and John. 00:08:51.93\00:08:53.40 And Jesus said John the Baptist, to some extent, was 00:08:53.43\00:08:56.60 a fulfillment of a return of Elijah. 00:08:56.63\00:08:59.33 But he wasn't the final example. 00:08:59.37\00:09:01.57 He said Elijah will come, and Elijah has come. 00:09:01.60\00:09:04.97 So John was at least a partial fulfillment who paved the way 00:09:05.01\00:09:08.31 for a great revival. 00:09:08.34\00:09:09.81 But before the Lord comes again, it says, "He'll turn the hearts 00:09:09.84\00:09:13.21 of the fathers to the children," now in Malachi chapter 4, verse 00:09:13.25\00:09:16.79 6, "and the hearts of the children to the fathers, lest I 00:09:16.82\00:09:20.49 come and strike the earth with a curse." 00:09:20.52\00:09:23.26 Well, this is telling us that, for one thing, Jesus said in the 00:09:23.29\00:09:26.29 last days, the love of many will grow cold, and that means even 00:09:26.33\00:09:29.50 love in families where, you know, you see epidemic divorce 00:09:29.53\00:09:33.30 and a lot of families are growing up without the father. 00:09:33.34\00:09:36.97 The message of Elijah is going to bring revival and more 00:09:37.01\00:09:41.24 familial love into the home. 00:09:41.28\00:09:44.05 But it's beyond that when it says, "The hearts of the fathers 00:09:44.08\00:09:46.55 to the children," you know, that it seems like there's always 00:09:46.58\00:09:48.42 been a generation gap. 00:09:48.45\00:09:49.75 You can read about Plato and Aristotle talking about the 00:09:49.78\00:09:52.55 generation gap in their days. 00:09:52.59\00:09:54.39 So it seems like the older people that have a little more 00:09:54.42\00:09:57.16 wisdom, they just aren't able to connect with the younger, and 00:09:57.19\00:10:00.56 the younger think the older ones are stodgy and they're just 00:10:00.60\00:10:03.90 too slow. 00:10:03.93\00:10:05.23 But it's talking about the younger believing in the 00:10:05.27\00:10:08.94 teachings of the older, the younger people returning to the 00:10:08.97\00:10:12.47 faith of the fathers, and the fathers listening to the energy 00:10:12.51\00:10:17.08 of the younger. 00:10:17.11\00:10:18.45 So there's also that happening here. 00:10:18.48\00:10:20.28 He says, "Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." 00:10:20.32\00:10:23.18 Well, don't let that frighten you. 00:10:23.22\00:10:25.02 We know that when Jesus comes, the dead in Christ are going 00:10:25.05\00:10:28.42 to rise, the righteous are caught up. 00:10:28.46\00:10:30.73 When the world is struck at the Second Coming, the saved don't 00:10:30.76\00:10:34.36 have to worry about that. 00:10:34.36\00:10:35.73 Jean: All right, thank you, Elizabeth. 00:10:35.76\00:10:37.13 We've got Alan in California. 00:10:37.17\00:10:38.77 Alan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:38.80\00:10:41.07 Alan: Good evening, gentlemen. 00:10:41.10\00:10:42.40 Calling from Bakersfield, California. 00:10:42.44\00:10:43.97 Doug: Thanks for calling. 00:10:44.01\00:10:45.37 Alan: All right, my question is regards Proverbs 13:22. 00:10:45.41\00:10:49.81 The back half of that says: "The wealth of the wicked is reserved 00:10:49.84\00:10:53.62 for the righteous." 00:10:53.65\00:10:54.95 Now, is the wealth obtained illegally or immorally or both, 00:10:54.98\00:10:59.92 or what's the wealth and who's the wicked? 00:10:59.95\00:11:02.22 Doug: Yeah, okay. 00:11:02.26\00:11:03.59 Well, wicked, of course, are anybody who is living a life of 00:11:03.63\00:11:07.03 rebellion against God and disobeying God, they're living 00:11:07.10\00:11:09.73 lives of sin. 00:11:09.76\00:11:11.10 And wicked is actually a word kind of reserved a little more 00:11:11.13\00:11:13.94 for those not struggling with temptation, but those who have 00:11:13.97\00:11:16.77 given over to it. 00:11:16.81\00:11:18.27 They have no problem stealing to get wealth or being unscrupulous 00:11:18.31\00:11:23.88 and--or grinding down, James talks about the rich who have 00:11:23.91\00:11:27.38 ground down the poor to get their riches and taken advantage 00:11:27.42\00:11:30.79 of people. 00:11:30.82\00:11:32.15 And so, people who accumulate wealth like that, they think 00:11:32.19\00:11:35.32 they're going to pass it on to their heritage, but often what 00:11:35.36\00:11:38.59 happens is, it's lost and the righteous somehow end up 00:11:38.63\00:11:42.03 getting it. 00:11:42.06\00:11:43.40 So, it's just saying that the posterity of the wicked, the 00:11:43.43\00:11:48.44 wealth does not go to them, those who have gotten it, 00:11:48.47\00:11:50.84 illegal gain, so to speak. 00:11:50.87\00:11:52.74 Jean: And I think it's also referring to the wise, those who 00:11:52.77\00:11:55.01 have wisdom, self-control, who plan, who organize, well, they 00:11:55.04\00:11:58.41 usually have something to leave to their children. 00:11:58.45\00:12:00.85 But those who are just living for self, it seems that they 00:12:00.88\00:12:03.82 squander their money and there's nothing left. 00:12:03.85\00:12:06.62 We've heard of all kinds of stories of people that have won 00:12:06.65\00:12:09.09 a tremendous amount of money, maybe they won the lottery 00:12:09.12\00:12:11.23 or something. 00:12:11.26\00:12:12.56 And in a few years, they're broke. 00:12:12.59\00:12:14.50 They've spent it all. 00:12:14.56\00:12:15.86 Doug: Or in debt. 00:12:15.90\00:12:17.20 Jean: They've just wasted away their money. 00:12:17.23\00:12:18.57 And I think that's the point that's being emphasized here 00:12:18.60\00:12:20.30 versus wisdom and just foolish selfishness. 00:12:20.34\00:12:23.57 All right, thank you, Alan. Quentin in Florida. 00:12:23.61\00:12:25.94 Quentin, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:12:25.97\00:12:27.74 Quentin: Hello. Doug: Hi. 00:12:27.78\00:12:30.08 Quentin: Yes, I wanted to know if, in the Bible, does it talk 00:12:30.11\00:12:33.45 about unfallen worlds, and if so, did Satan tempt them as well 00:12:33.48\00:12:38.65 when he got kicked out of heaven or was it just Earth? 00:12:38.69\00:12:41.82 Doug: Yes to both questions. 00:12:41.86\00:12:44.03 Are there worlds besides our planet? 00:12:44.06\00:12:46.76 Well, yeah, God, you know, God has lived for eternity. 00:12:46.80\00:12:49.83 The idea that He didn't do anything or create anything 00:12:49.86\00:12:52.53 until He got to our world is kind of, I think 00:12:52.57\00:12:57.74 limited thinking. 00:12:57.77\00:12:59.31 You can look in the Bible. 00:12:59.34\00:13:00.71 Let me give you some scripture. 00:13:00.74\00:13:02.08 It says in Hebrews chapter 1: "God, who at various times in 00:13:02.11\00:13:06.61 various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 00:13:06.65\00:13:10.39 has spoken in these last days to us by His Son, whom He appointed 00:13:10.42\00:13:14.72 heir of all things," now listen, "through whom He made 00:13:14.76\00:13:17.53 the worlds." 00:13:17.56\00:13:19.46 He didn't make just the world, but He made worlds. 00:13:19.49\00:13:22.53 And you can read in Revelation about everyone in heaven 00:13:22.56\00:13:25.37 and Earth. 00:13:25.40\00:13:26.74 And then in Job it talks about there was a day when the sons of 00:13:26.77\00:13:29.17 God came to present themselves before the Lord. 00:13:29.20\00:13:31.94 Satan came and God said, "Where'd you come from?" 00:13:31.97\00:13:33.61 "I came from the Earth." 00:13:33.64\00:13:34.98 Well, they're having a meeting somewhere in heaven. 00:13:35.01\00:13:36.54 They're not on Earth. 00:13:36.58\00:13:38.81 So, yeah, God has unfallen creatures. 00:13:38.85\00:13:41.42 Did the devil tempt them? 00:13:41.45\00:13:42.78 Yeah, I think everyone had an opportunity to listen to Satan's 00:13:42.82\00:13:47.66 protests against God. 00:13:47.69\00:13:49.72 And the devil made his case and tried to tempt them, but the 00:13:49.76\00:13:53.50 only world that fell is our world, and it's like the parable 00:13:53.53\00:13:57.50 where Jesus said a man had 100 sheep, and they're all safe in 00:13:57.53\00:14:01.67 the fold, but he left the fold to look for that one lost sheep. 00:14:01.70\00:14:05.47 That's our world. 00:14:05.51\00:14:06.81 That's us. 00:14:06.84\00:14:08.18 And so Christ came down, become one of us to save us. 00:14:08.21\00:14:11.21 Jean: You know, we got a study guide that talks about the 00:14:11.25\00:14:12.91 origin of evil. 00:14:12.95\00:14:14.25 Where did the devil come from? 00:14:14.28\00:14:15.62 It doesn't directly talk about, I think, the other intelligent 00:14:15.65\00:14:18.35 beings, but it does talk about the angels that had 00:14:18.39\00:14:20.76 an opportunity to choose who they would obey. 00:14:20.79\00:14:22.69 It's called, "Did God Create a Devil? 00:14:22.72\00:14:24.66 The Origin of Evil." 00:14:24.69\00:14:26.03 And for those of you who have never received that study guide, 00:14:26.06\00:14:28.20 if you want to call, we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:14:28.23\00:14:30.83 It's 800-835-6747, and you can just ask for that study guide. 00:14:30.87\00:14:35.40 It's called, "Did God Create a Devil?" 00:14:35.44\00:14:37.51 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:14:37.54\00:14:41.41 Live," and you can ask for it by name. 00:14:41.44\00:14:44.15 Doug: You know, I was just also thinking, I've got a YouTube. 00:14:44.18\00:14:47.22 If anyone just goes to YouTube, "Is There Life on 00:14:47.25\00:14:49.85 Unfallen Worlds?" 00:14:49.88\00:14:51.19 or "Did God Create Other Worlds?" 00:14:51.22\00:14:52.55 And there's a whole bunch of scriptures we give on that. 00:14:52.59\00:14:54.36 Jean: All right. Andi in Georgia. 00:14:54.39\00:14:57.06 Andi, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:14:57.09\00:15:00.76 Andi: Hello. Hi, pastors. 00:15:00.80\00:15:03.43 Doug: Hi, how are you doing? 00:15:03.47\00:15:04.70 Andi: Well, my question is, why do men always get, like, all the 00:15:04.73\00:15:09.80 glory for all the important stuff they do, but why not women 00:15:09.84\00:15:13.61 in the Bible? 00:15:13.64\00:15:14.88 Doug: You are correct that the Bible is mostly what you call 00:15:14.91\00:15:18.55 patriarchal, and that things go through the fathers. 00:15:18.58\00:15:21.52 It often tells about the birth of the sons, but not always 00:15:21.55\00:15:24.25 the daughters. 00:15:24.29\00:15:25.65 But you do have people like Ruth, who's a hero, and Esther 00:15:25.69\00:15:29.19 who's a hero, and Sarah and Rahab and so there are women. 00:15:29.22\00:15:35.60 Jean: And then, of course, in the New Testament, you get to 00:15:35.63\00:15:37.63 Mary, who is a hero in the Bibl, you have-- 00:15:37.67\00:15:41.90 Doug: She's the first one to see the resurrected Jesus. 00:15:41.94\00:15:43.87 Jean: Yeah, Mary Magdalene. 00:15:43.91\00:15:45.24 You've got Mary the mother of Jesus, yup. 00:15:45.27\00:15:47.51 And then you've got Elizabeth, which is the mother of John 00:15:47.54\00:15:50.35 the Baptist. 00:15:50.38\00:15:51.71 So, yes, women are spoken of quite a bit in the Bible, 00:15:51.75\00:15:54.18 although, you know, women weren't going into battle in the 00:15:54.22\00:15:57.29 Old Testament. 00:15:57.32\00:15:58.62 Although they did--you have Miriam, the sister of Moses, 00:15:58.65\00:16:02.19 so even all the way back there-- 00:16:02.22\00:16:03.56 Doug: Yeah, she saved her brothers. 00:16:03.59\00:16:05.06 Jean: That's right. 00:16:05.09\00:16:06.93 Doug: Good question. 00:16:06.96\00:16:08.23 Thank you, Andi. 00:16:08.26\00:16:09.60 Jean: All right, we've got Steve in Oregon. 00:16:09.63\00:16:10.93 Steve, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:16:10.97\00:16:12.57 Steve: Hello, can you hear me okay? 00:16:12.60\00:16:14.50 Doug: We do, loud and clear. 00:16:14.54\00:16:16.54 Steve: All right, thank you. 00:16:16.57\00:16:17.87 First, I wanted to ask if you ever had the opportunity to meet 00:16:17.91\00:16:22.61 Fred Cornforth up here in the Northwest? 00:16:22.64\00:16:26.98 Doug: You know, that name sounds very familiar. 00:16:27.02\00:16:29.42 And so there's a possibility I have, but, yeah, as I get older, 00:16:29.45\00:16:34.19 my name files start to get fuzzy. 00:16:34.22\00:16:37.89 Steve: Well, he was a true messenger of the gospel in the 00:16:37.93\00:16:41.33 Pacific Northwest here, so. 00:16:41.36\00:16:43.30 Doug: I probably met him because I've been traveling North 00:16:43.33\00:16:46.10 America for 40 years and I did some camp meetings up there, 00:16:46.13\00:16:49.57 so I think I probably did. 00:16:49.60\00:16:51.94 Steve: My question is that Revelation 14:20, the end of the 00:16:51.97\00:16:58.71 chapter, "And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and 00:16:58.75\00:17:04.92 the blood came up out of the winepress up to the horses' 00:17:04.95\00:17:09.36 bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs." 00:17:09.39\00:17:15.43 And my question is why 1600 furlongs? 00:17:15.46\00:17:21.50 Why not 7 furlongs or 144 furlongs or 40 furlongs? 00:17:21.54\00:17:28.94 There's so many numbers that are so prevalent in the Bible. 00:17:28.98\00:17:34.62 Doug: Right, well, and 16 is also a number that is one of 00:17:34.65\00:17:42.26 the numbers that is divisible in the Bible. 00:17:42.29\00:17:45.63 You can read about in Isaiah, it says, "I've trodden the 00:17:45.66\00:17:48.96 winepress alone, and the peoples, and no one was with me, 00:17:49.00\00:17:51.83 for I've trodden them in my anger, and I trampled them in 00:17:51.87\00:17:55.20 my fury." 00:17:55.24\00:17:56.54 That's Isaiah 63:3. 00:17:56.57\00:17:58.04 So, Revelation, when you read about it, is referencing 00:17:58.07\00:18:01.18 something in the Old Testament prophets. 00:18:01.21\00:18:03.28 Pastor Ross, you got any thoughts on that? 00:18:03.31\00:18:04.91 Jean: Yeah, maybe just it represents complete destruction 00:18:04.95\00:18:07.25 of the wicked if you read through the whole passage. 00:18:07.28\00:18:09.15 It's talking about the wicked finally being destroyed at the 00:18:09.18\00:18:11.82 end of the 1000 years. 00:18:11.85\00:18:13.15 It talks about them being destroyed. 00:18:13.19\00:18:14.76 The winepress is trodden outside the city, that is the new 00:18:14.79\00:18:17.49 Jerusalem, and they mount their attack upon the New Jerusalem. 00:18:17.53\00:18:20.33 Of course, fire comes down and devours them. 00:18:20.36\00:18:22.20 So this is very symbolic. 00:18:22.23\00:18:24.27 The 1600 furlongs, people have wondered what that could be and 00:18:24.30\00:18:29.50 it is interesting, the actual number there. 00:18:29.54\00:18:31.91 Someone suggested there is a reference in the apocryphal book 00:18:31.94\00:18:35.48 of Enoch, it's not in the Bible, but it's a book where it 00:18:35.51\00:18:39.88 describes the slaughter of the wicked and describes their blood 00:18:39.91\00:18:43.39 as being a river. 00:18:43.42\00:18:44.79 And it would go all the way up to the bridle of the horse and 00:18:44.82\00:18:48.46 even covering the chariot behind the horse. 00:18:48.49\00:18:51.43 So it's just this very symbolic picture of complete destruction 00:18:51.46\00:18:55.56 of the wicked. 00:18:55.60\00:18:56.93 The wicked shall be no more after this. 00:18:56.97\00:18:58.67 Doug: And it tells us that the city of God has 4 sides and it's 00:18:58.70\00:19:01.47 4 square and 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 is 16. 00:19:01.50\00:19:06.41 So they're surrounding the city of God, yeah. 00:19:06.44\00:19:09.44 Jean: Oh, that's good. 00:19:09.48\00:19:10.81 All right, well, thank you, Steve. 00:19:10.85\00:19:12.15 Great question. 00:19:12.18\00:19:13.48 We've got Giovanni in Idaho. 00:19:13.52\00:19:15.88 Giovanni, welcome to the program. 00:19:15.92\00:19:17.82 Giovanni: Hi, good evening pastors. 00:19:17.85\00:19:19.19 How are you? 00:19:19.22\00:19:20.52 Doug: Doing well, thank you for calling. 00:19:20.56\00:19:22.09 Giovanni: Excellent. 00:19:22.12\00:19:23.43 All right, my question is, in Matthew chapter 2, verse 16, in 00:19:23.46\00:19:29.40 the New King James Version, it says Herod put to death all the 00:19:29.43\00:19:34.34 male children, but in the King James Version, it says he put to 00:19:34.37\00:19:40.41 death "all" the children, and to me that seems to be kind of 00:19:40.44\00:19:44.95 a significant difference, and I was just wondering which one is 00:19:44.98\00:19:48.72 more accurate. 00:19:48.75\00:19:50.49 Doug: Well, I'd say the King-- the New King James is more 00:19:50.52\00:19:53.02 accurate, and I think what they're doing is there are 00:19:53.05\00:19:54.69 different words that are used for children in Greek, and you 00:19:54.72\00:19:57.79 can have, you got--you got niņo in Spanish, and that would be 00:19:57.83\00:20:01.66 a boy. 00:20:01.70\00:20:03.00 Niņa would be a little girl. 00:20:03.03\00:20:04.70 And so, I think in the Greek this might be in some 00:20:04.73\00:20:07.60 manuscripts a--it's the masculine which would make sense 00:20:07.64\00:20:10.91 because they're looking for a coming king and it was a male 00:20:10.94\00:20:14.91 and the Jews did not have any female kings or queens that were 00:20:14.94\00:20:20.05 ordained and so Herod thought let's kill all the male children 00:20:20.08\00:20:23.59 like the king of Egypt who killed all the male children 00:20:23.62\00:20:27.56 that were born or tried to throw them all in the river. 00:20:27.59\00:20:30.69 Jean: All right, thank you. 00:20:30.73\00:20:32.09 We do have a book talking about the Bible and various Bible 00:20:32.13\00:20:35.00 translations and manuscript. 00:20:35.03\00:20:36.50 It's called, "The Ultimate Resource." 00:20:36.53\00:20:38.23 And anyone wanting to learn more about the Bible, where it came 00:20:38.27\00:20:41.24 from, you can get the book and read it. 00:20:41.27\00:20:43.64 It's called--just call and ask. 00:20:43.67\00:20:45.14 It's 800-835-6747. 00:20:45.17\00:20:47.48 The book is called, "The Ultimate Resource." 00:20:47.51\00:20:49.61 Also, you can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:20:49.64\00:20:53.42 We've got Cami in California. 00:20:53.45\00:20:55.25 Cami, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:20:55.28\00:20:57.12 Cami: Good evening, Pastors. 00:20:57.15\00:20:58.49 Thank you for taking my phone call this evening. 00:20:58.52\00:21:01.12 Doug: We're glad you called. And your question tonight? 00:21:01.16\00:21:03.66 Cami: My question is dealing with 1 Samuel chapter 16 and 00:21:03.69\00:21:10.07 verse 14. 00:21:10.10\00:21:11.43 Could you please shed light on that or-- 00:21:11.47\00:21:14.60 Doug: Yeah, let me read it for our friends that are listening. 00:21:14.64\00:21:17.24 It says, "But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and 00:21:17.27\00:21:20.64 a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him." 00:21:20.68\00:21:23.75 And you would think--you might be wondering, why would God take 00:21:23.78\00:21:27.55 away his Spirit and send a diabolical or an evil spirit? 00:21:27.58\00:21:32.65 You know what it says just before that. 00:21:32.69\00:21:34.69 It says that "the Spirit of the Lord," if you look in verse 13, 00:21:34.72\00:21:38.29 "Samuel took his horn of oil and anointed him," David, "in the 00:21:38.33\00:21:42.06 midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon 00:21:42.10\00:21:44.67 David from that day forward." 00:21:44.70\00:21:46.90 And you never hear where God took the Spirit away from David. 00:21:46.94\00:21:50.31 In fact, David prays in Psalm 51, "Take not thy Spirit from 00:21:50.34\00:21:53.74 me," as it was taken from him before him, he's implying. 00:21:53.78\00:21:57.81 But Saul kept rejecting God. 00:21:57.85\00:22:00.52 And when he drove away the Spirit of God, God's Spirit is 00:22:00.55\00:22:03.52 light and good. 00:22:03.55\00:22:05.89 And when you reject light and good, what happens when 00:22:05.92\00:22:08.46 light goes out? 00:22:08.49\00:22:09.79 Automatically darkness comes in. 00:22:09.82\00:22:12.03 So it wasn't that God said, "Okay, all the devils come on, 00:22:12.06\00:22:14.36 take over Saul." 00:22:14.36\00:22:15.80 When God was driven away, the natural occurrence is for the 00:22:15.83\00:22:19.83 evil and darkness to come in. 00:22:19.87\00:22:22.64 Jean: All right. Thank you, Cami. 00:22:22.67\00:22:25.01 Well, we've got Julie in California. 00:22:25.04\00:22:26.68 Julie, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:22:26.71\00:22:29.71 Julie: Hi, Pastors, and thank you for taking my call. 00:22:29.74\00:22:32.28 My question is Isaiah 19:18 through 25. 00:22:32.31\00:22:37.62 I'm just wondering, is this passage prophetic? 00:22:37.65\00:22:42.46 I mean, it talks about then the Lord will be known to Egypt in 00:22:42.49\00:22:45.76 that day and all this. 00:22:45.79\00:22:47.56 And in verse 25, it says, "Blessed is Egypt, my people." 00:22:47.60\00:22:51.23 So I thought--I always understood that Egypt was cursed 00:22:51.27\00:22:55.04 and that it was a symbol for sin, you know, like in Exodus 20 00:22:55.07\00:22:59.77 where God says, "I brought you out of the land of Egypt." 00:22:59.81\00:23:03.28 In other words, "I saved you from your sin. 00:23:03.31\00:23:05.35 So now that I've saved you from your sin, please do these 00:23:05.38\00:23:09.85 things," okay, so I'm just curious about this passage. 00:23:09.88\00:23:13.02 Doug: Yeah, well, it's a great prophecy. 00:23:13.05\00:23:14.86 I think it's talking about the future. 00:23:14.89\00:23:16.79 Egypt has sort of a mixed history with Israel. 00:23:16.83\00:23:19.69 Keep in mind that Abraham married an Egyptian named Hagar, 00:23:19.73\00:23:26.20 that when there was a famine they always went to Egypt, that 00:23:26.23\00:23:28.94 it was in Egypt, Israel grew to a great nation. 00:23:28.97\00:23:31.77 Now one of the kings came along, you know, God blessed 00:23:31.81\00:23:34.01 Joseph in Egypt. 00:23:34.04\00:23:35.38 He became great in Egypt. 00:23:35.41\00:23:37.05 An evil king came along and then oppressed them. 00:23:37.08\00:23:40.22 But, first one that Solomon married was a daughter of Egypt. 00:23:40.25\00:23:44.52 So there's an interesting relationship. 00:23:44.55\00:23:46.96 Typically, Egypt means the world. 00:23:46.99\00:23:49.42 God said, "Don't go back to Egypt for horses," and there 00:23:49.46\00:23:53.46 was, you know, king of Egypt killed Josiah, one of the great 00:23:53.50\00:23:57.30 kings of Israel. 00:23:57.33\00:23:58.63 So there was, like, an off and on relationship. 00:23:58.67\00:24:00.57 This is a prophecy saying the day will come when those who had 00:24:00.60\00:24:04.64 been their enemies are going to embrace the Lord and that even a 00:24:04.67\00:24:08.81 place like Egypt, they'd be calling on God. 00:24:08.84\00:24:11.95 That partially happened with the Jews in Alexandria. 00:24:11.98\00:24:14.58 There was a great Jewish settlement there, but I think 00:24:14.62\00:24:17.15 the biggest fulfillment of this is in the future when the world, 00:24:17.19\00:24:20.42 the whole earth is full of the knowledge of God, even Egypt. 00:24:20.46\00:24:25.19 Jean: Okay, next caller that we have is Bob in Kentucky. 00:24:25.23\00:24:28.26 Bob, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:24:28.30\00:24:31.87 Bob: Hi, good evening, gentlemen. 00:24:31.90\00:24:33.84 My question this evening is, who did Jacob wrestle with 00:24:33.87\00:24:38.64 in Genesis? 00:24:38.67\00:24:39.97 I've heard different theories, and my pastor even mentioned 00:24:40.01\00:24:42.94 that it might have been the Lord Jesus. 00:24:42.98\00:24:46.25 I don't know if they say it was God and--or an angel of God. 00:24:46.28\00:24:51.25 Doug: Yeah, it's an interesting story. 00:24:51.29\00:24:53.25 So it says a man appeared and he's wrestling with this man. 00:24:53.29\00:24:56.96 Later, he realizes it's a supernatural being 'cause 00:24:56.99\00:25:00.43 he touches him and says, "Let me go." 00:25:00.46\00:25:01.66 And Jacob says, "I'm not going to let you go unless you bless 00:25:01.70\00:25:04.80 me," because he thought, "This is the Lord." 00:25:04.83\00:25:07.87 And then later Jacob says, "For I have seen God." 00:25:07.90\00:25:11.04 Well, no man has seen the Father, but Christ often 00:25:11.07\00:25:13.41 appeared to the patriarchs, and so this would be a Christophany 00:25:13.44\00:25:16.68 where Jesus saw Christ before His incarnation. 00:25:16.71\00:25:20.35 And so many believe this was the pre-incarnate Christ. 00:25:20.38\00:25:25.29 Jean: And you have Jacob here representing this wrestling, 00:25:25.32\00:25:28.59 representing the people of God. 00:25:28.62\00:25:30.19 You go back a little bit in the history of Jacob, when he was 00:25:30.23\00:25:33.70 fleeing from his home, and he prayed and there was a ladder 00:25:33.73\00:25:36.77 that he saw in the dream representing Christ. 00:25:36.80\00:25:40.04 And the promise was, Lord, if You bring me back here in peace. 00:25:40.07\00:25:42.70 And so during this time of wrestling, he's claiming those 00:25:42.74\00:25:45.54 promise, claiming the promise that God had forgiven him, that 00:25:45.57\00:25:48.04 God had accepted him. 00:25:48.08\00:25:49.38 His faith was tested. 00:25:49.41\00:25:50.71 Esau was coming with an army to destroy him. 00:25:50.75\00:25:53.48 Similar to the experience of God's people at the end of time, 00:25:53.52\00:25:55.58 where they will have to claim the promises of God and hold on 00:25:55.62\00:25:58.12 to Him by faith. 00:25:58.15\00:25:59.95 Doug: Amen. 00:26:00.06\00:26:01.59 Jean: I'm looking at the clock, Pastor Doug. 00:26:01.62\00:26:02.96 I don't think we have time for another caller. 00:26:02.99\00:26:04.29 We're coming up on a break here in just a few moments. 00:26:04.33\00:26:06.83 "Bible Answers Live" is by Live" will return shortly. 00:26:40.76\00:26:43.16 female: We grew up Catholic. 00:26:51.37\00:26:52.67 I went to Catholic school for 9 years. 00:26:52.71\00:26:54.78 A group of my friends and I would go to church every Sunday. 00:26:54.81\00:26:59.15 I think as a young child I had a closer relationship with God 00:26:59.18\00:27:03.42 than I did as a young adult. 00:27:03.45\00:27:05.29 I never really forgot Him, but I did. 00:27:05.32\00:27:08.96 From high school, I went to college and then after college I 00:27:08.99\00:27:13.66 went into the dance world and became a dancer. 00:27:13.70\00:27:18.47 Got married late in my life, but at the right time. 00:27:18.50\00:27:22.60 He also grew up as a Catholic. 00:27:22.64\00:27:24.84 My husband worked as a software salesperson in New York City. 00:27:24.87\00:27:29.44 We woke up early that morning of 9/11 and I said to him, I said, 00:27:29.48\00:27:33.35 "Why are you not going to the city today?" 00:27:33.38\00:27:34.82 He says, "Look at this day, it's beautiful." 00:27:34.85\00:27:36.82 He says, "I really want to spend the day with you and the girls." 00:27:36.85\00:27:40.56 Just as that first plane hit the towers, he dropped to his knees 00:27:40.59\00:27:44.76 and he said, "Thank God, because I was supposed to be up in the 00:27:44.79\00:27:50.77 second building today." 00:27:50.80\00:27:52.63 So we changed our lives. 00:27:52.67\00:27:54.44 We found our place in the mountains in West Virginia. 00:27:54.47\00:27:58.61 My eldest child was born on Christmas Day, so that was 00:27:58.64\00:28:01.51 always very special until Christmas Day 2 years ago, my 00:28:01.54\00:28:06.51 husband died on our kitchen floor. 00:28:06.55\00:28:08.65 My youngest child and I worked for about an hour, doing CPR, 00:28:08.68\00:28:14.66 but living so remotely as where we live, there was 8 inches of 00:28:14.69\00:28:18.79 snow on the ground. 00:28:18.83\00:28:20.16 The emergency vehicles could not get to us. 00:28:20.20\00:28:22.63 We lost him that day. 00:28:22.66\00:28:27.80 Ten days after my husband died, the gray water system was 00:28:27.84\00:28:32.41 pouring out underneath the house. 00:28:32.44\00:28:33.94 I called the plumber up and I asked him if he remembered my 00:28:33.98\00:28:37.58 husband, and he says, "Oh, I do remember speaking with him." 00:28:37.61\00:28:40.48 I said, "Well, he passed away on Christmas Day." 00:28:40.52\00:28:43.22 And he says, "I'll be over tonight." 00:28:43.25\00:28:45.22 The whole underneath the house was replaced. 00:28:45.25\00:28:47.89 Said, "How much do I owe you for today?" 00:28:47.92\00:28:49.66 He says, "Let me think. 00:28:49.69\00:28:53.26 Nothing." 00:28:53.29\00:28:54.56 And I just hugged him and he says--he says, "How would you 00:28:54.60\00:28:58.07 like to come to church on Saturday?" 00:28:58.10\00:29:00.20 And I said, "Saturday?" 00:29:00.24\00:29:02.10 We ended up going to church on Saturday and his wife gave us 00:31:12.40\00:31:14.00 My name is Doug Batchelor. 00:31:14.04\00:31:15.84 Jean: My name is Jean Ross, and we've got Simon standing by, 00:31:15.87\00:31:19.14 listening in Louisiana. 00:31:19.17\00:31:20.48 Simon, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:31:20.51\00:31:22.88 Simon: Hey, nice to meet you guys. 00:31:22.91\00:31:24.81 Doug: Thank you. 00:31:24.85\00:31:26.15 Simon: My question is from 1 Peter chapter 3, verse 18 00:31:26.18\00:31:29.82 and 19. 00:31:29.85\00:31:31.95 Sorry, verse 19 and 20. 00:31:31.99\00:31:34.22 The question is, who are the souls that Jesus preached to? 00:31:34.26\00:31:38.86 Doug: Well, now keep in mind, some people think that means 00:31:38.89\00:31:40.96 that Jesus, when He's on the cross, didn't really die, but 00:31:41.00\00:31:44.43 that He entered another realm of limbo or purgatory, where He 00:31:44.47\00:31:48.74 preached to people who died during the flood, to give them 00:31:48.77\00:31:51.77 another chance. 00:31:51.81\00:31:53.17 This is not at all what this verse is talking about. 00:31:53.21\00:31:55.21 You have to back up and read a little bit. 00:31:55.24\00:31:57.58 Verse 18. 00:31:57.61\00:31:58.95 Let me read it. 00:31:58.98\00:32:00.35 This is, by the way, 1 Peter 3:18. 00:32:00.38\00:32:02.18 "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the 00:32:02.22\00:32:04.92 unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in 00:32:04.95\00:32:08.62 the flesh but made alive by the Spirit," capital S. 00:32:08.66\00:32:12.49 By whom? The Spirit. 00:32:12.53\00:32:14.83 He went and preached to the spirits in prison, so Christ 00:32:14.83\00:32:17.33 through the Spirit preached to the spirits in prison, who 00:32:17.37\00:32:21.24 were disobedient. 00:32:21.27\00:32:22.90 When did this happen? 00:32:22.94\00:32:24.41 "When the divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah." 00:32:24.44\00:32:27.88 God's longsuffering, the Spirit preaching, days of Noah. 00:32:27.91\00:32:31.71 Peter is referring to Genesis 6, verse 3, where God says, 00:32:31.75\00:32:37.15 "My Spirit will not always strive with man. 00:32:37.19\00:32:38.89 His days will be 120 years." 00:32:38.92\00:32:41.26 Through that same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, 00:32:41.29\00:32:44.63 God spoke to the people imprisoned by sin. 00:32:44.66\00:32:48.00 Spirits imprisoned by sin. 00:32:48.03\00:32:49.36 It's not talking about ghosts in prison. 00:32:49.40\00:32:51.17 It's talking about people imprisoned by sin back in the 00:32:51.20\00:32:53.64 days of Noah when He was longsuffering with them. 00:32:53.67\00:32:56.67 It's not Jesus going down to Hades somewhere and preaching. 00:32:56.71\00:33:00.31 Jean: All right. Thank you, Simon. 00:33:00.34\00:33:03.01 We've got Nathan in Canada. 00:33:03.04\00:33:05.11 Nathan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:33:05.15\00:33:07.72 Nathan: Good evening, Pastor Doug. 00:33:07.75\00:33:10.05 I love your content. 00:33:10.09\00:33:11.39 I've been listening to you for many years. 00:33:11.42\00:33:14.66 Doug: Thank you, Nathan. 00:33:14.69\00:33:15.99 We're glad you called. 00:33:16.02\00:33:17.36 Nathan: I have a question. 00:33:17.39\00:33:18.69 Past few years I've been, just to put it short, I've been 00:33:18.73\00:33:21.80 struggling with laziness and just feeling depressed. 00:33:21.83\00:33:26.13 I mean, I used to be like very faithful and believing, I used 00:33:26.17\00:33:30.37 to believe in God, but, you know, recently, maybe since I 00:33:30.41\00:33:35.28 went to university, I've been really doubting that. 00:33:35.31\00:33:40.12 It crippled my productivity, like being able to work and 00:33:40.15\00:33:45.32 enjoy what I do, has just been like crushed. 00:33:45.35\00:33:49.02 I missed out on some opportunities in my university. 00:33:49.06\00:33:54.40 It, you know, I've just been managing. 00:33:54.46\00:33:58.47 I didn't--I haven't really had any aspiration or any, like, 00:33:58.50\00:34:03.57 grand meaning, you know. 00:34:03.61\00:34:06.41 It's just something that, you know, it made me depressed 00:34:06.44\00:34:09.58 and lazy. 00:34:09.61\00:34:11.51 I feel optimistic and I want to return back to that. 00:34:11.55\00:34:15.68 I just don't know with doubt, having to do with doubt, the 00:34:15.72\00:34:18.39 depression that hangs down. 00:34:18.42\00:34:21.36 Doug: Well, let me give you a few thoughts. 00:34:21.39\00:34:24.43 First of all, some depression can be caused by things 00:34:24.46\00:34:27.66 physiological or chemical. 00:34:27.73\00:34:30.30 You can be sleepy and it can bring on depression, if you're 00:34:30.33\00:34:32.87 not getting enough rest. 00:34:32.90\00:34:34.87 You can have some chemical imbalance or in the diet that 00:34:34.90\00:34:38.74 can bring on depression. 00:34:38.77\00:34:40.31 Some people, if they have a lot of sugar in their diet, the high 00:34:40.34\00:34:43.31 from the sugar then brings on a low later. 00:34:43.35\00:34:46.08 So it could be physiological. 00:34:46.11\00:34:47.88 It could be a spiritual battle. 00:34:47.92\00:34:49.22 Now, the devil will take advantage of our 00:34:49.25\00:34:52.02 physical weakness. 00:34:52.05\00:34:53.39 That's when he came to tempt Christ when He was hungry. 00:34:53.42\00:34:55.62 So if you already have some physical problem, the devil will 00:34:55.66\00:34:57.99 try and make the most of it, and it can be--compound 00:34:58.03\00:35:00.56 your depression. 00:35:00.60\00:35:01.90 "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." 00:35:01.93\00:35:05.07 The more you hear the Word of God, a little hearing, a little 00:35:05.10\00:35:08.10 faith, more hearing, more faith. 00:35:08.14\00:35:10.54 God's Word is encouraging. 00:35:10.57\00:35:12.67 The Bible says in Romans chapter 5, "When we had no strength, 00:35:12.71\00:35:16.75 Christ died for us." 00:35:16.78\00:35:18.38 And so remember that He died for you when you're weak. 00:35:18.41\00:35:21.62 He says, "Take My yoke upon you." 00:35:21.65\00:35:24.12 Surrender to Jesus. 00:35:24.15\00:35:25.45 Believe that He died for you, that He came to you, that He 00:35:25.49\00:35:28.59 wants you to be saved. 00:35:28.62\00:35:29.92 He loves you desperately. 00:35:29.96\00:35:31.56 And the more you look at Him, the more you'll love Him. 00:35:31.59\00:35:34.10 The more you love Him, the more excited you'll be about 00:35:34.13\00:35:36.50 serving Him. 00:35:36.53\00:35:37.87 And that's the greatest motivation in life, whether 00:35:37.90\00:35:40.30 you're doing it at work or full-time ministry. 00:35:40.34\00:35:43.41 When you fall in love with the Lord, you got a bright future 00:35:43.44\00:35:46.31 and you're going to be wanting to share that with others. 00:35:46.34\00:35:48.74 Jean: Absolutely, and of course, it's always good to share 00:35:48.78\00:35:51.25 your faith. 00:35:51.28\00:35:52.58 That kind of helps motivate you and encourage you too. 00:35:52.61\00:35:54.35 Doug: Now, we have a book called, "When the Brook Dries 00:35:54.38\00:35:56.35 Up," that deals with discouragement. 00:35:56.38\00:35:58.52 We'll send you a free copy. 00:35:58.55\00:36:00.32 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:36:00.36\00:36:03.89 You can ask for the book, it's called, "When the Brook 00:36:03.93\00:36:06.29 Dries Up." 00:36:06.33\00:36:07.66 Again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:36:07.66\00:36:10.50 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and just ask for it 00:36:10.53\00:36:14.07 by name. 00:36:14.10\00:36:15.44 Robert in Nevada. 00:36:15.47\00:36:16.77 Robert, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:36:16.81\00:36:18.21 Robert: Thank you. 00:36:18.24\00:36:19.54 Hello, Dr--Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross. 00:36:19.57\00:36:22.91 Doug: Thank you. 00:36:22.94\00:36:24.28 My question is this, I have heard that during the days of 00:36:24.31\00:36:28.42 Jesus, that wine could be dehydrated when they went 00:36:28.45\00:36:32.65 on trips. 00:36:32.69\00:36:33.99 And I wonder if that somehow would explain the miracle of 00:36:34.02\00:36:38.76 Jesus turning the water into wine at the wedding feast, 00:36:38.79\00:36:43.23 that's in the Bible. 00:36:43.26\00:36:44.50 Doug: That what they did, yeah, when they filled those cisterns 00:36:44.53\00:36:47.10 with water, it had dehydrated wine in them, kind of like 00:36:47.14\00:36:50.81 Kool-Aid at the bottom, and then it turned into wine. 00:36:50.84\00:36:53.27 Is that kind of the idea? 00:36:53.31\00:36:55.74 Robert: Yes, yes, yes. 00:36:55.78\00:36:57.11 Doug: Yeah, no, it's pretty clear from the text that they 00:36:57.15\00:37:00.48 were out of wine, dehydrated or otherwise, but it wasn't 00:37:00.52\00:37:04.45 fully dehydrated. 00:37:04.49\00:37:05.82 It used to be a syrup, actually. 00:37:05.85\00:37:07.16 It wasn't like freeze-dried. 00:37:07.19\00:37:08.62 And--but no, they were out of wine. 00:37:08.66\00:37:11.26 He told the servants, "Fill the pitchers with water," and all 00:37:11.29\00:37:13.43 the servants knew there was nothing in those pitchers 00:37:13.46\00:37:15.60 but water. 00:37:15.63\00:37:17.00 And He said, "Now pour it out." 00:37:17.03\00:37:18.33 And it wasn't only wine. 00:37:18.37\00:37:19.67 He didn't say, "Oh, this is made from concentrate. 00:37:19.70\00:37:21.17 It's no good." 00:37:21.20\00:37:22.57 The head of the feast said, "This is the best wine. 00:37:22.60\00:37:25.71 Where'd you get fresh wine?" 00:37:25.74\00:37:27.31 They could taste that it was fresh wine, and it wasn't the 00:37:27.34\00:37:31.15 wine season. 00:37:31.18\00:37:32.51 So, it was a miracle. 00:37:32.55\00:37:34.58 Matter of fact, John says this was the first miracle. 00:37:34.62\00:37:36.95 If Jesus had only added water to dehydrated grape juice, then it 00:37:36.99\00:37:42.29 wouldn't have been called a miracle. 00:37:42.32\00:37:43.66 It would have been mixing concentrate. 00:37:43.69\00:37:45.99 Jean: Yeah, the Bible also says that the sticks--the six stone 00:37:46.03\00:37:49.03 water jugs that Jesus used, that were used for purifying of 00:37:49.06\00:37:52.63 the Jews. 00:37:52.67\00:37:53.90 So those jugs weren't used for wine, they were actually used 00:37:53.94\00:37:57.64 for water and purification of cooking utensils and the like. 00:37:57.67\00:38:01.78 So it was profound. 00:38:01.81\00:38:04.05 And that's probably why the governor of the feast said that. 00:38:04.08\00:38:06.01 He said, "You kept the best to last." 00:38:06.05\00:38:07.78 So probably up to that point, they had some sort of dehydrated 00:38:07.82\00:38:11.85 kind of syrupy stuff. 00:38:11.89\00:38:13.22 But then, wow, the grape juice that Jesus made was so fresh. 00:38:13.25\00:38:16.99 They were amazed, "Where did you get this from?" 00:38:17.03\00:38:18.66 Doug: Yeah, it's interesting. 00:38:18.69\00:38:20.10 The first miracle of Jesus, He turns water to wine and He gives 00:38:20.13\00:38:24.50 human--humanity at a marriage fresh wine. 00:38:24.53\00:38:29.10 And of course, Christ, the first thing He does is Adam and Eve, 00:38:29.14\00:38:31.37 He's at a marriage, right? 00:38:31.41\00:38:33.74 And then, the last thing Jesus does, He tastes sour wine that 00:38:33.78\00:38:38.71 is given to Him on a pole that we gave Him. 00:38:38.75\00:38:41.92 And so He gives us pure, we give Him sour, He trades places 00:38:41.95\00:38:44.95 with us. 00:38:44.99\00:38:46.29 It's like a blood transfusion. 00:38:46.32\00:38:47.66 He takes our bad blood and He gives us His pure blood. 00:38:47.69\00:38:49.72 So, the whole gospel's in there and it was a miracle. 00:38:49.76\00:38:53.16 Jean: All right, thank you, Robert. 00:38:53.19\00:38:54.46 Next caller that we have is Aiden in Arizona. 00:38:54.50\00:38:57.33 Aiden, welcome to the program. 00:38:57.37\00:38:58.67 Aiden: Oh hello, Pastors. Doug: Hi. 00:38:58.70\00:39:03.61 Aiden: Hello. 00:39:03.64\00:39:04.97 Hey, my question is in Galatians chapter 4, verse number 6. 00:39:05.01\00:39:14.32 Verse 6, if you'd like to read that. 00:39:14.35\00:39:16.02 Doug: Okay, "And because you are sons, God has sent forth the 00:39:16.05\00:39:19.89 Spirit into His Son--in your hearts, crying out, 00:39:19.92\00:39:22.96 'Abba, Father.'" 00:39:22.99\00:39:25.66 Would you like me to explain that? 00:39:25.69\00:39:27.03 Aiden: Yeah, yeah, the spirit of his sons into your hearts. 00:39:27.03\00:39:31.47 That's one of my questions. 00:39:31.50\00:39:34.64 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, the--Christ sent the 00:39:34.67\00:39:38.24 Holy Spirit. 00:39:38.27\00:39:39.91 And the goodness of God leads us to call out for God. 00:39:39.94\00:39:43.88 And it's a--He's talking about a father-son love relationship. 00:39:43.91\00:39:48.58 Abba was a very simple form. 00:39:48.62\00:39:50.72 It's like Papa, and it's, you know, God's--Jesus said, "When 00:39:50.75\00:39:54.79 you pray, say, 'Our Father.'" 00:39:54.82\00:39:57.03 That was profoundly intimate for the Jews to say, "Our Father." 00:39:57.06\00:40:00.93 And that, Jesus is telling us that the Father loves you, not 00:40:00.96\00:40:05.30 just the Son, but the Father so loved the world He gave His Son. 00:40:05.33\00:40:09.14 And so it's here in this verse, you've got the Father, the Son, 00:40:09.17\00:40:13.27 and the Spirit all in that one verse. 00:40:13.31\00:40:15.48 Jean: Does that help, Aiden? 00:40:15.51\00:40:17.18 Aiden: Yeah, that does, because this is a part of the 00:40:17.21\00:40:21.38 New Testament, right? 00:40:21.42\00:40:23.22 Doug: Yes, Galatians. 00:40:23.25\00:40:24.55 Aiden: Yes, yes, and so that's what I was wondering, 00:40:24.59\00:40:28.32 yes, 'cause I was just wondering there on the New Testament where 00:40:28.36\00:40:31.93 He said He would write it in our hearts. 00:40:31.96\00:40:34.56 Doug: Yes, that's part of the new covenant. 00:40:34.60\00:40:36.16 Aiden: Yeah, it's part of the new covenant. 00:40:36.20\00:40:39.37 And so, yes, that's what I was wondering what the Spirit of His 00:40:39.40\00:40:42.20 Son was, in our hearts. 00:40:42.24\00:40:44.31 Doug: Yeah, well, of course, that's the Holy Spirit that 00:40:44.34\00:40:47.31 Jesus said. 00:40:47.34\00:40:48.68 He said, "I can't, you know, I'll be with you in the 00:40:48.71\00:40:51.41 Holy Spirit. 00:40:51.45\00:40:52.75 Wherever you go, I'm with you." 00:40:52.78\00:40:54.35 And He's in you. 00:40:54.38\00:40:56.28 Jean: You know, I'm looking for that book, Pastor Doug, "Why the 00:40:56.32\00:40:58.22 Old Covenant Failed." 00:40:58.25\00:40:59.59 And it actually talks about the new covenant and explains how 00:40:59.62\00:41:02.89 God writes His law upon the heart of those who love Him. 00:41:02.92\00:41:05.76 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:41:05.79\00:41:07.86 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:41:07.93\00:41:11.07 You can ask for the book. 00:41:11.10\00:41:12.40 It's called, "Why the Old Covenant Failed." 00:41:12.43\00:41:14.10 And also dial #250 on your smartphone, you can ask for it 00:41:14.14\00:41:17.77 that way as well. 00:41:17.81\00:41:19.51 Gerald in Michigan, Gerald, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:41:19.54\00:41:22.21 Gerald: Hey, Pastor Ross, Pastor Doug. 00:41:22.24\00:41:25.68 Doug: Evening. Gerald: Good evening. 00:41:25.71\00:41:28.38 Pastor Doug, I just want you to know, I was in a bad way for 00:41:28.42\00:41:31.52 a long time and when I was in prison, by accident, 00:41:31.55\00:41:36.32 I programmed 3 ABN into my TV and "Amazing Facts" was on, and 00:41:36.36\00:41:41.76 I surrendered my life to the Lord that night, and I just got 00:41:41.80\00:41:45.13 baptized yesterday. 00:41:45.17\00:41:46.50 So thank you for your program. 00:41:46.53\00:41:47.84 Doug: Amen, now you said "by accident." 00:41:47.87\00:41:49.74 Do you really believe it was an accident? 00:41:49.77\00:41:51.14 Gerald: Well, I say it was an accident because I didn't know 00:41:51.17\00:41:55.38 that that channel was there, but-- 00:41:55.41\00:41:57.61 Doug: But God arranged that, and I'm--praise God, we're just 00:41:57.65\00:42:00.58 rejoicing with you. 00:42:00.62\00:42:01.95 That's wonderful, Gerald. 00:42:01.98\00:42:03.28 Gerald: That's awesome. 00:42:03.32\00:42:04.69 Okay, it's been said that we-- everybody has a guardian angel. 00:42:04.72\00:42:11.16 I was wondering, when a person dies, does that guardian angel 00:42:11.19\00:42:14.46 go to someone else, or is it possible that they guard the 00:42:14.46\00:42:17.27 gravesite or wherever that person dies until that person 00:42:17.30\00:42:20.77 raises with Jesus? 00:42:20.80\00:42:22.94 Doug: Let me tell you an amazing fact. 00:42:22.97\00:42:25.47 Squirrels have an incredible memory. 00:42:25.51\00:42:28.31 They bury nuts all summer long, all fall. 00:42:28.34\00:42:32.85 They know where every nut is buried. 00:42:32.88\00:42:35.82 How they do that, I don't know, but they know. 00:42:35.85\00:42:37.85 Same thing with woodpeckers. 00:42:37.89\00:42:39.39 Angels mark the grave of people they've cared for through 00:42:39.42\00:42:42.82 their lives. 00:42:42.86\00:42:44.19 I think angels are ministering spirits. 00:42:44.23\00:42:45.59 They're busy. 00:42:45.63\00:42:46.96 They probably would get bored, you know, sitting--an angel 00:42:47.00\00:42:49.03 standing 6000 years by the grave of Abel. 00:42:49.06\00:42:52.07 They've marked the place and they'll be there for 00:42:52.10\00:42:53.64 the Resurrection. 00:42:53.67\00:42:54.90 God may have them engaged doing something else in the meantime, 00:42:54.94\00:42:57.07 but I'm sure they're--they like activity as much as we do. 00:42:57.11\00:43:01.41 And they haven't forgotten the spot where the nuts are buried. 00:43:01.44\00:43:05.48 So, you don't have to worry. 00:43:05.51\00:43:07.02 But do they take on another person? 00:43:07.05\00:43:10.69 I don't know, we're kind of delving into some 00:43:10.72\00:43:12.89 speculation there. 00:43:12.92\00:43:14.29 Do we have guardian angels? 00:43:14.32\00:43:15.66 I think the Bible supports that 'cause it says that "their 00:43:15.69\00:43:18.53 angels do behold the face of My Father and the angel of the 00:43:18.56\00:43:22.66 Lord," Psalm 91, "encamps around those that fear Him." 00:43:22.70\00:43:25.67 So I do think we have guardian angels. 00:43:25.70\00:43:28.87 Jean: All right, and of course, if guardian angels standing 00:43:28.90\00:43:31.44 guarding the tomb, now, of course, there were probably 00:43:31.47\00:43:33.38 angels guarding the tomb of Christ when he was in the tomb, 00:43:33.41\00:43:36.58 but when a person dies in faith and, you know, they are buried, 00:43:36.61\00:43:41.45 there's no real reason to guard the body any longer. 00:43:41.48\00:43:43.99 Doug: What if they're cremated and scattered in the ocean, 00:43:44.02\00:43:46.09 where they going to go? 00:43:46.12\00:43:47.49 Jean: God's going to create with a new body, so, it's not 00:43:47.52\00:43:51.03 so important-- 00:43:51.06\00:43:52.39 Doug: What will the angels do if their ashes were scattered. 00:43:52.43\00:43:53.96 What would they guard? The ocean? 00:43:54.00\00:43:55.36 Jean: That's right. And I think they get reassigned. 00:43:55.40\00:43:57.90 I mean, there's a lot of people in the world and so-- 00:43:57.93\00:43:59.57 Doug: If I was an angel, I'd want to be busy. 00:43:59.60\00:44:02.34 I always thought it'd be tough to be like the guard of the 00:44:02.37\00:44:05.24 unknown soldier just march back and forth, but they do a great 00:44:05.27\00:44:09.34 job in their drill. 00:44:09.38\00:44:11.61 Jean: All right, Deanna in Illinois. 00:44:11.65\00:44:13.05 Deanna, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:44:13.08\00:44:14.82 Deanna: Good evening. 00:44:14.85\00:44:18.85 So my question is, what is the biblical significance of the 00:44:18.89\00:44:23.66 number 7 and number 10 and also multiples of number 7 as in 00:44:23.69\00:44:30.50 Daniel chapter 9, the 70-week prophecy? 00:44:30.53\00:44:33.90 Doug: Yeah, yeah, well, the 7 is, there are meanings, most 00:44:33.94\00:44:38.11 scholars believe, to Bible numbers, and I think I'll get 00:44:38.14\00:44:41.24 into it real quick, but just before I forget. 00:44:41.28\00:44:43.91 We have a website, Bible Prophecy Truth, and there's 00:44:43.95\00:44:46.51 a place here, it's got a key on Bible numbers and their 00:44:46.55\00:44:49.15 meanings, if--I think that's where it's at. 00:44:49.18\00:44:52.05 Seven is a number for a complete cycle, a perfect cycle. 00:44:52.09\00:44:55.09 God made the week in--made the world in seven days, and it's 00:44:55.12\00:44:59.13 a cycle. 00:44:59.16\00:45:00.53 You find in Revelation, several cycles of history. 00:45:00.56\00:45:03.67 You get the seven churches, seven trumpets, seven plagues. 00:45:03.70\00:45:06.84 You get the seven seals, seven thunders, how many seven eyes. 00:45:06.87\00:45:12.14 You get seven spirits. 00:45:12.17\00:45:13.68 Come on, Pastor Ross, I'm leaving half of them out. 00:45:13.71\00:45:15.98 Jean: There's a lot of sevens, yes. 00:45:16.01\00:45:17.35 Doug: A lot of sevens in Revelation. 00:45:17.38\00:45:18.88 But--and it's talking about the perfection of God. 00:45:18.91\00:45:22.22 A 12 often represents the church: 12 apostles, 12 tribes, 00:45:22.25\00:45:26.49 12 judges, 12 foundations in the New Jerusalem with 12 gates 00:45:26.52\00:45:29.99 and 144,000. 00:45:30.03\00:45:32.26 The church is going to eat 12 kinds of fruit, 12 times a year. 00:45:32.29\00:45:35.86 Then you've got the number ten is the law. 00:45:35.90\00:45:38.57 And, you know, you get the ten lepers that were healed. 00:45:38.60\00:45:42.97 A woman has ten coins, but she loses one. 00:45:43.00\00:45:46.07 Forty is a generation, usually, in the Bible, a lot of forties. 00:45:46.11\00:45:50.58 So 3 is a--3 1/2 is a like, 3 1/2 is usually a time of 00:45:50.61\00:45:54.58 apostasy so it's half of 7. 00:45:54.62\00:45:56.72 It's like it's interrupted. 00:45:56.75\00:45:58.19 Six is the number of man in the Bible. 00:45:58.22\00:46:00.62 Jean: Five is often associated with doctrinal teaching because 00:46:00.66\00:46:03.16 of the first five books. 00:46:03.19\00:46:04.93 So number two is the old, the law and the prophets, 00:46:04.96\00:46:08.46 two witnesses. 00:46:08.50\00:46:09.80 So yeah, that's a great--that's a great study, the numbers in 00:46:09.83\00:46:11.93 the Bible. 00:46:11.97\00:46:13.40 All right, Luther in Tennessee, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:46:13.44\00:46:17.07 Luther: Hey, well, thanks for taking my call. 00:46:17.11\00:46:20.84 Who are the 24 elders in Revelations? 00:46:20.88\00:46:23.95 I'm a bit confused about that. 00:46:23.98\00:46:26.41 Doug: Yeah, it's interesting. 00:46:26.45\00:46:27.75 We just were talking about numbers. 00:46:27.78\00:46:29.12 You said the 24 elders. 00:46:29.15\00:46:30.69 The key to understanding Revelation is you look in the 00:46:30.72\00:46:34.96 Old Testament, and it's true often in the reign of David and 00:46:34.99\00:46:38.76 Solomon that their leaders were divided in 12s, 2 times 12 00:46:38.79\00:46:43.43 is 24. 00:46:43.47\00:46:44.87 And so, but who are these 24 elders? 00:46:44.90\00:46:49.24 Some wondered if they were the saints that were resurrected in 00:46:49.27\00:46:53.07 Matthew 28 with the resurrection of Christ that ascended 00:46:53.11\00:46:56.48 to heaven. 00:46:56.51\00:46:57.85 I think it's more likely that they are leaders of unfallen 00:46:57.88\00:47:00.75 worlds that they represent, they might represent unfallen 00:47:00.78\00:47:05.39 districts of the universe, I don't know, but you know, it 00:47:05.42\00:47:08.32 tells us there was a day when the sons of God came to gather 00:47:08.36\00:47:10.73 with the Lord. 00:47:10.76\00:47:12.06 There's this assembly around the Lord. 00:47:12.09\00:47:13.73 Adam was to be the ruler of this world. 00:47:13.76\00:47:15.30 He was called the son of God. 00:47:15.33\00:47:17.60 And so it may be leaders of unfallen realms that are around 00:47:17.63\00:47:24.54 the throne of God. 00:47:24.57\00:47:26.27 Jean: You know, we do have a verse in Isaiah 24, verse 23, 00:47:26.31\00:47:29.08 that I think is used or referenced in Revelation chapter 00:47:29.11\00:47:32.25 4, talking about the 24 elders. 00:47:32.28\00:47:34.35 It says: "Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun shall be 00:47:34.38\00:47:37.32 ashamed, when the Lord of hosts shall reign in Mount Zion, 00:47:37.35\00:47:41.39 in Jerusalem, and before his ancient or elders gloriously." 00:47:41.42\00:47:46.39 So here in the Old Testament, we have a reference to the Lord 00:47:46.43\00:47:48.90 surrounded by the elders, and Revelation gives us the numbers: 00:47:48.93\00:47:52.17 24 elders. 00:47:52.20\00:47:53.54 So, as Pastor Doug mentioned, scholars believe, many scholars 00:47:53.57\00:47:56.71 believe that it could symbolize those sons of God that you read 00:47:56.74\00:47:59.87 about in the book of Job or the representatives of the 00:47:59.91\00:48:02.54 unfallen worlds. 00:48:02.58\00:48:05.18 All right, thank you, Luther. 00:48:05.21\00:48:06.51 We've got Phil and Joan in Arizona. 00:48:06.55\00:48:08.48 Phil, Joan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:48:08.52\00:48:11.49 Joan: Hi, thank you for your Odyssey 2024 in New York and in 00:48:11.52\00:48:14.49 the '90s, I believe. 00:48:14.52\00:48:15.82 Thank you for historical prophecies. 00:48:15.86\00:48:17.49 Enjoyed them both. 00:48:17.53\00:48:18.83 We're both--we're both baptized. 00:48:18.86\00:48:20.33 And my question is, why was there an immediate punishment 00:48:20.36\00:48:25.93 where the wicked are stubble in Malachi 4, and why in Revelation 00:48:25.97\00:48:30.71 comparing it to Revelation 20, and they're in the lake of fire 00:48:30.74\00:48:34.68 for a short period of time. 00:48:34.71\00:48:36.54 There's a--why wouldn't they just be eliminated quickly like 00:48:36.58\00:48:40.48 they were in Malachi 4, the wicked? 00:48:40.52\00:48:42.05 Doug: Well, there's two times the wicked are burned up. 00:48:42.08\00:48:45.15 I know it sounds kind of harsh, but Malachi I think is talking 00:48:45.19\00:48:48.69 about when the Lord comes, as you read in Thessalonians, 00:48:48.72\00:48:52.26 Pastor Ross will help me find, 'cause I get 1 and 2 00:48:52.29\00:48:54.83 Thessalonians verses mixed up. 00:48:54.86\00:48:56.87 But where it says that the wicked are destroyed by the 00:48:56.90\00:48:59.13 brightness of His coming. 00:48:59.17\00:49:01.04 When the day of the Lord comes, you read in 2 Peter chapter 3, 00:49:01.07\00:49:05.24 "The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in 00:49:05.27\00:49:07.38 which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the 00:49:07.41\00:49:10.48 elements melt with a fervent heat." 00:49:10.51\00:49:12.21 That's where it burns it like stubble, burn up, and the 00:49:12.25\00:49:16.42 elements will burn up. 00:49:16.45\00:49:18.32 That's talking about when Jesus first comes. 00:49:18.35\00:49:20.12 The judgment that you read about in Revelation is after the 1000 00:49:20.16\00:49:23.63 years when the wicked are then cast into the lake of fire. 00:49:23.66\00:49:26.26 They're punished according to what they deserve, so they're 00:49:26.29\00:49:28.46 kind of two different fires. 00:49:28.50\00:49:30.03 Jean: The verse you're referring to, 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, 00:49:30.07\00:49:32.30 verse 8. 00:49:32.33\00:49:33.67 It says: "Then that wicked shall be revealed, and 00:49:33.70\00:49:35.00 the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth and shall 00:49:35.04\00:49:37.17 destroy with the brightness of His coming." 00:49:37.21\00:49:39.14 Doug: So it's the brilliance of His coming is--and the Lord's 00:49:39.17\00:49:42.31 coming is a consuming fire, the Bible tells us. 00:49:42.34\00:49:45.48 So when Jesus comes, the righteous are resurrected or 00:49:45.51\00:49:48.65 caught up to meet the Lord. 00:49:48.68\00:49:50.52 The wicked are destroyed by the brightness of His coming. 00:49:50.55\00:49:52.79 They'll be stubble at that time. 00:49:52.82\00:49:55.36 They're later resurrected and judged according to their works, 00:49:55.39\00:49:58.06 and then they're cast into the lake of fire, and 00:49:58.09\00:50:00.00 that's separate. 00:50:00.03\00:50:01.63 Jean: Okay, next caller that we have is Bear in California. 00:50:01.66\00:50:04.47 Bear, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:50:04.50\00:50:07.94 Bear: Good evening, my friends. 00:50:07.97\00:50:09.30 How are you tonight? 00:50:09.34\00:50:10.67 Doug: Good, I know another Bear. 00:50:10.71\00:50:12.01 There's not many out there. 00:50:12.04\00:50:13.61 How you doing? 00:50:13.64\00:50:14.94 Bear: Yeah, I know we're far and few between. 00:50:14.98\00:50:17.61 My question is, I know throughout the Bible, Jesus had 00:50:17.65\00:50:22.88 several names and when Mary was told that she was going to have 00:50:22.92\00:50:28.52 a baby, to name Him Jesus. 00:50:28.56\00:50:31.83 Did Jesus have an official name in the Old Testament? 00:50:31.86\00:50:37.30 Doug: Well, are you talking about like when He appears to 00:50:37.33\00:50:40.14 Abraham or--the only thing I can think of is when God said, 00:50:40.17\00:50:46.57 you know, I am that I AM. 00:50:46.61\00:50:48.68 And then you've got that sacred name of God that is Yahweh and 00:50:48.71\00:50:52.61 some people call it Jehovah. 00:50:52.65\00:50:55.28 It's we're not exactly sure how to pronounce it, 00:50:55.32\00:50:57.39 the Tetragrammaton. 00:50:57.42\00:50:59.42 And, so there's a sacred name of God, but even in the Old 00:50:59.45\00:51:06.19 Testament there's a couple of Joshuas and they are types 00:51:06.23\00:51:08.96 of Christ. 00:51:09.00\00:51:10.57 Joshua was a prophet and a general that led them into the 00:51:10.60\00:51:13.50 Promised Land, and there was a high priest named Joshua that 00:51:13.54\00:51:16.54 led them from Babylon back to the Promised Land. 00:51:16.57\00:51:19.47 Christ is our high priest, our general, our prophet. 00:51:19.51\00:51:22.48 So in that sense, He's also called the Son of David. 00:51:22.51\00:51:25.31 So He's got some symbolic names, you know, He's called the 00:51:25.35\00:51:28.62 Almighty, the provider in Mount Moriah, God will provide. 00:51:28.65\00:51:34.66 So, yeah, a number of names in the Old Testament are used, 00:51:34.69\00:51:38.69 so I'm not sure if I'm answering what you're asking. 00:51:38.73\00:51:41.20 Bear: Well, I've got a flyer from you about Michael 00:51:41.23\00:51:45.03 the Archangel. 00:51:45.07\00:51:46.40 Doug: Oh, okay, yeah. 00:51:46.43\00:51:47.74 So, yeah, that's another name. 00:51:47.77\00:51:50.47 One of the names for Christ is Michael, and that means who is 00:51:50.51\00:51:54.74 as God. 00:51:54.78\00:51:56.08 Now we're not saying, I always got to clarify with people, 00:51:56.11\00:51:58.91 we do not believe that Jesus is an angel. 00:51:58.95\00:52:00.72 He is eternal God. 00:52:00.75\00:52:03.12 But when He appeared in the Old Testament, like when this 00:52:03.15\00:52:06.89 majestic warlike being, this angel appears to Joshua, the 00:52:06.92\00:52:10.89 angel says, "Take your shoes off, this is holy ground." 00:52:10.93\00:52:13.90 We're not supposed to worship angels. 00:52:13.93\00:52:15.96 And it says, "The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with 00:52:16.00\00:52:18.87 a shout and the voice of the archangel." 00:52:18.90\00:52:21.97 Michael the Archangel is one of the spiritual names for Jesus in 00:52:22.00\00:52:24.91 the Old Testament, and you know that because it says in 00:52:24.94\00:52:27.84 Revelation 12 that "the dragon and his angels," now the dragon 00:52:27.88\00:52:31.41 is a symbolic name for the devil, "fought with Michael and 00:52:31.45\00:52:34.82 His angels." 00:52:34.85\00:52:36.15 Michael's a symbolic name for the leader of good, 00:52:36.18\00:52:37.85 that's Jesus. 00:52:37.89\00:52:39.49 So yes, that is one of the names, correct. 00:52:39.52\00:52:42.42 I wasn't sure if you were looking for one of the Hebrew 00:52:42.46\00:52:44.86 other names. 00:52:44.89\00:52:46.23 Jean: You know, we have a book. 00:52:46.26\00:52:47.56 It's called, "The Name of God." 00:52:47.60\00:52:48.90 Doug: And we got one, "Who is Michael the Archangel?" 00:52:48.93\00:52:50.23 Jean: That one too, yeah, two books. 00:52:50.27\00:52:51.60 Doug: We'll send you two for the price of nothing. 00:52:51.63\00:52:52.93 Jean: That's right. 00:52:52.97\00:52:54.30 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:52:54.34\00:52:57.14 That is our resource phone line. 00:52:57.17\00:52:58.77 You can ask for the book, "The Name of God," or "Michael the 00:52:58.81\00:53:01.84 Archangel," and we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls 00:53:01.88\00:53:04.25 and asks. 00:53:04.28\00:53:05.61 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:53:05.65\00:53:08.52 Say "Bible Answers Live" and you'll be able to receive the 00:53:08.55\00:53:10.69 book that way as well. 00:53:10.72\00:53:12.62 Carl in Georgia. 00:53:12.65\00:53:13.96 Carl, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:53:13.99\00:53:16.32 Carl: Yeah, I got a question on the feet washing. 00:53:16.36\00:53:20.53 I noticed many denominations don't do it, yet when Jesus says 00:53:20.56\00:53:25.63 you ought to do this, to me, that's a very 00:53:25.67\00:53:28.60 strong recommendation. 00:53:28.64\00:53:30.51 Is there a basis why more denominations don't practice it? 00:53:30.54\00:53:36.18 Doug: Well, I agree with you that they should, because the 00:53:36.21\00:53:38.58 command, He says, "If I wash your feet, you ought to wash one 00:53:38.61\00:53:41.92 another's feet." 00:53:41.95\00:53:43.28 His command there is just as explicit about the commandment 00:53:43.32\00:53:46.52 of "As often as I drink it--as you eat and drink it, you do it 00:53:46.55\00:53:49.96 in remembrance of Me." 00:53:49.99\00:53:51.53 So, the commandment's equally clear. 00:53:51.56\00:53:55.13 People in Bible times, they used to, you know, walk around 00:53:55.16\00:53:59.00 barefoot on dirty roads and their feet needed 00:53:59.03\00:54:01.07 regular washing. 00:54:01.10\00:54:02.44 You come to someone's house, now you wash your hands 00:54:02.47\00:54:04.24 before you eat. 00:54:04.27\00:54:05.57 Back then they washed their feet and their hands because their 00:54:05.61\00:54:07.28 feet often had to go on the same roads as the animals, and it 00:54:07.31\00:54:10.28 didn't bring the best smell into the house. 00:54:10.31\00:54:12.51 So some people say, "Well, that was just a tradition 00:54:12.55\00:54:14.65 from the ages. 00:54:14.68\00:54:15.98 We don't need to do that anymore." 00:54:16.02\00:54:18.22 But a lot of, you know, biblically careful churches 00:54:18.25\00:54:22.52 still practice that. 00:54:22.56\00:54:23.86 Our church practices that. 00:54:23.89\00:54:25.23 I think it's interesting that even in the Catholic Church, 00:54:25.26\00:54:27.40 I think once a year, the pope washes someone's feet or a few 00:54:27.40\00:54:29.73 people's feet. 00:54:29.76\00:54:31.00 I don't know if he can do it now he gets older, but that used to 00:54:31.03\00:54:34.20 be a tradition because they recognize it's a command 00:54:34.24\00:54:36.94 in the Bible. 00:54:36.97\00:54:38.67 Not that the pope's our best example for everything, 00:54:38.71\00:54:42.21 but anyway, so I know Primitive Baptists still do and a number 00:54:42.24\00:54:44.75 of other churches. 00:54:44.78\00:54:46.61 Jean: Okay, next caller that we have is Janelle in New York. 00:54:46.65\00:54:49.02 Janelle, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:54:49.05\00:54:50.69 Janelle: Hi, how are you? 00:54:50.72\00:54:52.92 Doug: Doing good. 00:54:52.95\00:54:54.26 We got about a minute before we're out of time, 00:54:54.29\00:54:56.59 so your question? 00:54:56.62\00:54:57.96 Janelle: Yes, so, I had a dream when I was younger, and 00:54:57.99\00:55:01.76 this dream I've seen Jesus and He had a garment on, and it 00:55:01.80\00:55:07.80 had--the garment that He was wearing was the garment that the 00:55:07.84\00:55:12.14 high priests wore in the Old Testament, which is the Urim and 00:55:12.17\00:55:15.81 the Thummim, I think I'm pronouncing it right. 00:55:15.84\00:55:18.65 So I see this verse and it's Ezra chapter 2, verse 63. 00:55:18.68\00:55:26.05 And I want to know if this refers to Jesus as the high 00:55:26.09\00:55:29.16 priest in heaven, and what He's wearing. 00:55:29.19\00:55:32.23 Doug: All right, let me read this for our friends listening. 00:55:32.26\00:55:34.83 "And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the 00:55:34.83\00:55:37.63 most holy things till a priest can consult with the Urim and 00:55:37.67\00:55:41.67 the Thummim. 00:55:41.70\00:55:43.00 Those were the two sacred stones on the shoulder of the 00:55:43.04\00:55:45.24 high priest. 00:55:45.27\00:55:46.57 And when they were in doubt about what to do, sometimes they 00:55:46.61\00:55:49.64 would pray and they'd look, and it's, evidently, it's--there's 00:55:49.68\00:55:53.35 still some mystery about this, Pastor Ross, but it seems like 00:55:53.38\00:55:56.22 one of the stones would glow. 00:55:56.25\00:55:58.89 And it was kind of like a yes or a no answer that they'd get, 00:55:58.92\00:56:03.22 doing this. 00:56:03.26\00:56:04.56 I remember when one of the priests fled from King Saul, he 00:56:04.59\00:56:08.86 took the ephod with him that had the Urim and the Thummim, and 00:56:08.90\00:56:11.23 David would consult it before he went into battle. 00:56:11.27\00:56:13.34 He had--Abiathar had that with him, and it would guide them 00:56:13.37\00:56:17.07 about what to do. 00:56:17.11\00:56:18.41 Now they don't know if the thing made a sound or hummed or 00:56:18.44\00:56:20.41 glowed, but somehow they'd ask a question, and one meant yes and 00:56:20.44\00:56:23.18 one meant no and, yeah, and Christ is, of course, 00:56:23.21\00:56:27.28 our high priest. 00:56:27.32\00:56:28.62 He's wearing the breastplate in Revelation chapter 1, but I'm 00:56:28.65\00:56:31.12 not sure it says anything there about the Urim and the Thummim. 00:56:31.15\00:56:34.36 So it's a symbol for the high priest here. 00:56:34.39\00:56:36.39 Jean: Our next caller is James in Minnesota. 00:56:36.42\00:56:38.53 James, we got about a minute. 00:56:38.56\00:56:40.26 You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:56:40.30\00:56:41.60 James: Hello, Pastors. 00:56:41.63\00:56:42.93 This is for Pastor Jean Ross. 00:56:42.96\00:56:45.53 The Protestant reformers and pioneers believed that the seven 00:56:45.57\00:56:49.37 heads of the Roman beast in Revelation 17 were the seven 00:56:49.40\00:56:53.34 different forms of Roman government: kings, consuls, 00:56:53.38\00:56:57.45 decemvirs, triumvirs, dictators, emperors, and popes, which is 00:56:57.48\00:57:01.75 a unique element of their kingdom. 00:57:01.78\00:57:03.92 I've heard your understanding that the seven heads are seven 00:57:03.95\00:57:06.96 kingdoms that have persecuted God's people. 00:57:06.99\00:57:10.39 But can you please show me what other example you can give where 00:57:10.43\00:57:15.26 another kingdom has other kingdoms as their head? 00:57:15.30\00:57:19.87 Shouldn't there be another biblical example? 00:57:19.90\00:57:22.77 Jean: Yeah, let me summarize that real quick. 00:57:22.80\00:57:25.41 The Bible does say that the seven heads represent kingdoms, 00:57:25.44\00:57:28.74 seven kingdoms as well. 00:57:28.78\00:57:30.01 And the principal kingdoms that persecuted the people of God, if 00:57:30.05\00:57:32.58 you go back just using the prophetic books of Daniel and 00:57:32.61\00:57:34.85 Revelation, you go back to the time of Babylon. 00:57:34.88\00:57:37.95 Babylon, even before that you can go to Syria, but Babylon, 00:57:37.99\00:57:40.42 Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and then the papal power for the 00:57:40.46\00:57:43.29 1260 years, and then there is a revival of persecution just 00:57:43.32\00:57:47.50 before Jesus comes. 00:57:47.56\00:57:49.36 And so we don't have time to get into all of those details, but 00:57:49.40\00:57:51.87 that's sort of a summary. 00:57:51.90\00:57:53.70 Doug: We got a lesson on it at our website. 00:57:53.74\00:57:56.30 Hey, thanks for listening, friends. 00:57:56.34\00:57:57.64 We're out of time. 00:57:57.67\00:57:59.01 God willing, we'll study His Word together with you again 00:57:59.04\00:58:01.54 next week. 00:58:01.58\00:58:02.98 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:58:05.45\00:58:08.08 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:58:08.12\00:58:11.79 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:58:11.82\00:58:15.86 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:58:15.89\00:58:20.96 ¤¤¤ 00:58:20.96\00:58:26.97
