male announcer: It is the best selling book in history. 00:00:03.20\00:00:05.73 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted and it's 00:00:05.83\00:00:10.21 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, should 00:00:10.34\00:00:14.31 always be studied carefully. 00:00:14.34\00:00:16.48 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.51\00:00:19.95 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.24\00:00:48.08 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.25 Doug Batchelor: Hello friends, welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:00:50.28\00:00:52.61 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:52.65\00:00:56.12 Armadillos are among the strangest of God's creatures. 00:00:56.15\00:00:59.82 Like their cousins, the anteater, armadillos have a very 00:00:59.85\00:01:02.96 long sticky tongue to slurp up bugs and strong claws to tear 00:01:02.99\00:01:07.03 open ant nests or to dig up a burrow 15 feet long. 00:01:07.10\00:01:11.60 The female armadillo always bears four young, which are 00:01:11.63\00:01:15.44 always the same sex, either four female or four males. 00:01:15.47\00:01:18.51 This is the only mammal known to do so. 00:01:18.54\00:01:21.48 Armadillos like to swim and they're very good at it, but 00:01:21.51\00:01:24.88 because their heavy shells make them sink, they must swallow air 00:01:24.91\00:01:27.92 to become more buoyant or they sink and walk along the bottom 00:01:27.95\00:01:31.09 of streams like a lobster. 00:01:31.12\00:01:32.85 If they need to, they can hold their breath for up to six 00:01:32.89\00:01:35.26 minutes at a time. 00:01:35.29\00:01:36.79 They sleep a lot and only come out at twilight or when it's 00:01:36.83\00:01:40.10 very cloudy because their eyes are very sensitive to light. 00:01:40.13\00:01:43.67 The name armadillo is a Spanish word meaning little armored one. 00:01:43.70\00:01:48.80 Their armor protects them against the thorns and spikes in 00:01:48.84\00:01:51.37 the desert. 00:01:51.41\00:01:52.74 When threatened, the three banded armadillo can roll up 00:01:52.77\00:01:55.38 into a virtual ball. 00:01:55.41\00:01:57.25 The popular nine-banded armadillo found all the way from 00:01:57.28\00:02:00.12 the US down to South America is between 29 to 36 inches long, 00:02:00.15\00:02:05.05 including the tail, and they usually weigh between 8 to 00:02:05.09\00:02:07.76 17 pounds. 00:02:07.79\00:02:09.52 Now that's nothing compared to the largest armadillos who have 00:02:09.56\00:02:12.69 ever lived, which are called glylopidons. 00:02:12.73\00:02:15.76 They lived in South America. 00:02:15.80\00:02:17.63 They were about 11 feet long, 5 feet tall, and weighed over 00:02:17.67\00:02:22.10 4400 pounds. 00:02:22.14\00:02:24.61 For additional defense, at the end of their long tails, they 00:02:24.64\00:02:27.54 had a club covered with spikes. 00:02:27.58\00:02:30.28 You know, even though some of these ancient mammals were huge, 00:02:30.31\00:02:33.18 they still needed armor because there were also even bigger 00:02:33.21\00:02:36.58 predators they had to worry about back then. 00:02:36.62\00:02:39.22 Jëan Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:02:39.25\00:02:40.56 It seemed like before the flood, animals were super sized. 00:02:40.59\00:02:43.56 Even the armadillo needed to be big. 00:02:43.59\00:02:46.36 Doug: They call them megafauna. 00:02:46.39\00:02:47.86 They had some of these are huge. 00:02:47.86\00:02:49.50 I remember I was on the island of Malta. 00:02:49.53\00:02:51.37 I was 16 years old. 00:02:51.40\00:02:52.87 They took us to a museum. 00:02:52.90\00:02:54.40 They showed us the rack, a rack of antlers from some 00:02:54.44\00:02:58.01 deer-like creature. 00:02:58.04\00:02:59.64 That did look like it was 20 feet long. 00:02:59.67\00:03:01.51 It, just, the animals were huge back then. 00:03:01.54\00:03:03.95 It's hard to comprehend. 00:03:03.98\00:03:05.21 And we've all heard about the 13 feet tall sloths and, you know, 00:03:05.25\00:03:09.78 some of these other big animals. 00:03:09.82\00:03:11.72 Well, we believe that they lived contemporaneous with a lot of 00:03:11.75\00:03:16.39 the big reptiles and what we call dinosaurs, but it's 00:03:16.42\00:03:21.93 interesting, they needed armor. 00:03:21.96\00:03:23.43 And you know, the Bible tells us that we need armor, too, to 00:03:23.47\00:03:27.34 protect ourselves from a very big reptile and the dragon, 00:03:27.37\00:03:31.21 the devil. 00:03:31.24\00:03:32.54 And Paul says in Ephesians chapter 6, verse 11, matter of 00:03:32.57\00:03:35.54 fact, there's several verses there. 00:03:35.58\00:03:37.51 He says, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you might be able 00:03:37.55\00:03:41.22 to stand against the wiles of the devil." 00:03:41.25\00:03:43.95 We deal with temptation every day and God in His word and in 00:03:43.99\00:03:48.22 the teachings of Christ, He provides armor so that we can be 00:03:48.26\00:03:53.03 victorious in our battles with the enemy. 00:03:53.06\00:03:56.13 Jëan: We have a book that's called "The Armor of God" and 00:03:56.16\00:03:58.23 talks about how we can practically put on that armor 00:03:58.27\00:04:01.57 every day so we can stand against the wiles of the enemy. 00:04:01.60\00:04:04.71 If you'd like to see the book, all you have to do is call 00:04:04.74\00:04:06.74 and ask. 00:04:06.78\00:04:08.08 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:04:08.11\00:04:11.35 That is our resource phone line and you can ask for the book. 00:04:26.70\00:04:28.33 If you have a Bible question, you can just 00:04:28.36\00:04:30.37 dial 1-800-463-7297. 00:04:30.40\00:04:34.47 That is our phone line here to the studio and you'll be able to 00:04:34.50\00:04:37.87 get your question on tonight's program. 00:04:37.91\00:04:40.24 Well, Pastor Doug, before we go to the phone, let's start 00:04:40.28\00:04:42.44 with prayer. 00:04:42.48\00:04:43.85 Dear Father, we are so grateful for this time to be able to open 00:04:43.88\00:04:46.75 up your Word and study. 00:04:46.78\00:04:48.28 And Lord, we know the Bible is Your book and so we ask for the 00:04:48.32\00:04:50.69 Holy Spirit to guide us, lead us into a clearer understanding 00:04:50.72\00:04:54.36 of truth. 00:04:54.39\00:04:55.72 Be with those who are listening and watching wherever they 00:04:55.76\00:04:57.19 might be. 00:04:57.23\00:04:58.56 We ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:58.59\00:05:00.13 Doug: Amen. 00:05:00.16\00:05:01.76 Jëan: First caller this evening is Duncan calling from Canada. 00:05:01.80\00:05:04.53 Duncan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:04.57\00:05:06.53 Duncan: I have a question relating to Malachi chapter 3, 00:05:06.57\00:05:11.67 verse 16. 00:05:11.71\00:05:14.38 Is the prayer of remembrance spoken of in Malachi chapter 3 00:05:14.41\00:05:20.52 and the Lamb's Book of Life, which we read about in the Book 00:05:20.55\00:05:24.15 of Revelation one and the same? 00:05:24.19\00:05:26.86 Doug: All right, well, let me read this for our friends. 00:05:26.89\00:05:29.56 It says in the Malachi 3:16, "Then those who feared the Lord 00:05:29.59\00:05:33.50 spoke one to another, and the Lord listened and heard them; So 00:05:33.53\00:05:37.10 a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who 00:05:37.13\00:05:40.90 feared the Lord and who meditated on His name." 00:05:40.94\00:05:43.77 Now are you wondering if that is the same as the Lamb's Book of 00:05:43.81\00:05:47.41 life you find in Revelation? 00:05:47.44\00:05:49.71 Duncan: Yes, I am. 00:05:49.74\00:05:51.28 Doug: You know, it appears there's different books in 00:05:51.31\00:05:54.68 the Bible. 00:05:54.72\00:05:55.95 You've got a book of what you would call remembrance, you've 00:05:55.98\00:05:58.59 got the book of life, and then, you know, Revelation also deals 00:05:58.62\00:06:02.42 with a book with seven seals that are written. 00:06:02.46\00:06:06.19 You've got a book of records in the Bible where it tells us, you 00:06:06.23\00:06:09.70 know, every idle word we speak is somehow recorded. 00:06:09.73\00:06:13.67 Jëan: So, you know, I think that, well, there's 00:06:13.70\00:06:16.04 several books. 00:06:16.07\00:06:17.41 First of all, you know, you've got the Book of Life and the 00:06:17.44\00:06:19.14 Bible says, "Those whose names are found written in the Lamb's 00:06:19.17\00:06:21.21 Book of Life." 00:06:21.24\00:06:22.58 So you want your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life. 00:06:22.61\00:06:24.18 But in addition to that, the Bible says when Jesus comes, He 00:06:24.21\00:06:26.65 brings His rewards with Him to give to every man according to 00:06:26.68\00:06:29.32 His works. 00:06:29.35\00:06:30.69 So that's not only referring to the wicked being judged out of 00:06:30.72\00:06:33.39 the book of iniquity or book of sin, but each is rewarded also 00:06:33.42\00:06:37.76 based upon what they have done for the Lord. 00:06:37.79\00:06:40.06 Out of some kind of record, probably the book 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.60 of remembrance. 00:06:42.63\00:06:43.87 So, I think these books serve different purposes, different 00:06:43.90\00:06:47.67 aspects as we see in Scripture, but the most important book, of 00:06:47.70\00:06:50.61 course, is to have your name in the Lamb's Book of Life. 00:06:50.64\00:06:53.64 Doug: Yeah, and just keep in mind, friends, when the Bible 00:06:53.68\00:06:56.28 talks to us about books, you know, we have records that are 00:06:56.31\00:07:00.92 kept, just look at the way records have changed, you know, 00:07:00.95\00:07:03.65 the record used to be on cuneiform and then, you know, 00:07:03.69\00:07:07.46 you get type with the Gutenberg and in the last few years, it 00:07:07.49\00:07:11.03 went from big round reels of tape to cassette tapes to 00:07:11.06\00:07:15.70 computer tape to computer disk to digital and so what kind of 00:07:15.73\00:07:20.50 ways does God have to record information? 00:07:20.54\00:07:22.97 He uses word book because that's something they could relate to, 00:07:23.00\00:07:26.07 but God has a record of everything and exactly how He 00:07:26.11\00:07:30.55 stores that, I don't know, but He's got it booked as you 00:07:30.58\00:07:32.61 might say. 00:07:32.65\00:07:34.18 Jëan: All right, thank you, Duncan. 00:07:34.22\00:07:35.55 Next caller that we have is Paul in South Dakota. 00:07:35.58\00:07:37.62 Paul, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:37.65\00:07:39.82 Paul: Well, thank you, brothers. 00:07:39.85\00:07:41.36 My question is about Revelation 13 verse 5, that 42 months or 00:07:41.39\00:07:48.76 3.5 years. 00:07:48.80\00:07:50.37 Will that be closing around the time probation closes? 00:07:50.40\00:07:55.87 Doug: All right, let me read this for our friends listening. 00:07:55.90\00:07:58.27 We'd like to be mindful a lot of folks listen driving down the 00:07:58.31\00:08:00.81 road and they don't have a Bible in their lap. 00:08:00.84\00:08:03.41 And it says in Revelation 13:5, "And it was given, and he was 00:08:03.45\00:08:07.05 given," and this is speaking of this beast power, "a mouth 00:08:07.08\00:08:11.05 speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given 00:08:11.09\00:08:14.29 authority to continue forty-two months. 00:08:14.32\00:08:16.66 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God to 00:08:16.69\00:08:19.56 blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those that dwell 00:08:19.59\00:08:22.40 in heaven. 00:08:22.43\00:08:23.73 And it was granted to him to make war with the saints and to 00:08:23.77\00:08:25.73 overcome them. 00:08:25.77\00:08:27.10 And authority was given over to him over every tribe nation, all 00:08:27.14\00:08:30.07 who dwell on the earth will worship him whose names are not 00:08:30.11\00:08:33.21 written in the Lamb's Book of Life." 00:08:33.24\00:08:35.41 And so you've got this time period that's mentioned three 00:08:35.44\00:08:38.75 times in Revelation, also mentioned in Daniel, of 42 00:08:38.78\00:08:42.52 months, 1260 years, a time, a times, and the dividing of time. 00:08:42.55\00:08:48.26 A time was one year. 00:08:48.29\00:08:50.73 A times meant a pair or a couple of years, which so that's one 00:08:50.76\00:08:53.90 plus two, that's three. 00:08:53.93\00:08:56.26 Plus the dividing are half, 3.5. 00:08:56.30\00:08:58.47 So you got three and half years, 42 months, 1260 days, they all 00:08:58.50\00:09:02.74 add up to the same time period. 00:09:02.77\00:09:04.84 Now, this is not talking about when the plagues begin. 00:09:04.87\00:09:08.31 This is stretching during a time of great tribulation in the Dark 00:09:08.34\00:09:12.08 Ages from 538 till 1798 and it was a time of what they called 00:09:12.11\00:09:18.72 the papal persecution. 00:09:18.75\00:09:20.09 By the way, even the Catholic Church admits to this and 00:09:20.12\00:09:22.79 they've apologized for it in history. 00:09:22.82\00:09:25.36 And so from the time that the church became sort of a military 00:09:25.39\00:09:28.93 power in 538 when they were given an army compelling people 00:09:28.96\00:09:33.13 to obey and believe until they lost power under the army of 00:09:33.17\00:09:37.51 Napoleon when Berthier went into Rome to arrest the Pope in 1798, 00:09:37.54\00:09:43.41 that's exactly 1260 years because a day in prophecy 00:09:43.45\00:09:48.38 is a year. 00:09:48.42\00:09:49.75 So that's what that time period's pointing to. 00:09:49.78\00:09:52.55 Jëan: And we find that actually 7 times in Scripture, both in 00:09:52.59\00:09:55.09 Daniel and Revelation. 00:09:55.12\00:09:56.46 As you mentioned pastor Doug times and a half a time, 1260 00:09:56.49\00:09:59.89 years or days and 42 months. 00:09:59.93\00:10:02.70 There are 30 days in the Hebrew month, so 42 times 30 is 1260. 00:10:02.73\00:10:07.14 Same time period. 00:10:07.17\00:10:08.50 Doug: Yep, also the same length of time Jesus taught, three and 00:10:08.54\00:10:11.44 a half years. 00:10:11.47\00:10:12.84 It was literal three and a half years, same time from Christ's 00:10:12.87\00:10:16.04 death until the stoning of Stephen, same time that Elijah 00:10:16.08\00:10:21.25 hid during a time of famine, three and a half years. 00:10:21.28\00:10:23.59 So yeah, it's actually an interruption of seven. 00:10:23.62\00:10:26.59 It's cutting seven in half. 00:10:26.62\00:10:28.59 So it's the opposite of the perfect number. 00:10:28.62\00:10:30.89 It's apostasy, there's some persecution happening in 00:10:30.93\00:10:33.63 that time. 00:10:33.66\00:10:34.93 Jëan: All right, we do have a study guide. 00:10:34.96\00:10:36.30 It's called, "Who Is The Antichrist?" 00:10:36.33\00:10:37.63 And I think that's one of the identifying marks that's listed 00:10:37.67\00:10:39.10 here, this 1260 year time period. 00:10:39.13\00:10:41.74 If you'd like to learn more, just call and ask. 00:10:41.77\00:10:43.41 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:10:43.44\00:10:47.08 You can ask for the study guide. 00:10:47.11\00:10:48.44 It's called "Who Is The Antichrist?" 00:10:48.48\00:10:50.28 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and ask for it by 00:10:50.31\00:10:54.28 name, "Who Is The Anti-Christ?" 00:10:54.32\00:10:55.85 We'll be able to send you a digital copy of that lesson. 00:10:55.88\00:10:58.89 Next caller that we have is Glenn and Linda in Ohio. 00:10:58.92\00:11:01.72 Glenn, Linda, welcome to the program. 00:11:01.76\00:11:04.49 Glenn: Thank you very much for taking this call. 00:11:04.53\00:11:07.83 I have a question just before I come in with a former question. 00:11:07.86\00:11:13.23 I'd like to see "Amazing Facts" develop a book that were in 00:11:13.27\00:11:16.97 three parts. 00:11:17.01\00:11:18.34 The first part is the biblical prophecies fulfilled, the second 00:11:18.37\00:11:22.64 part biblical prophecies waiting to be fulfilled, and the third 00:11:22.68\00:11:26.78 part, the prophecy is known to be fulfilled. 00:11:26.82\00:11:29.25 I think "Amazing Facts" would be a good spot to develop something 00:11:29.28\00:11:33.42 like that. 00:11:33.46\00:11:34.79 Doug: Well, thank you, I appreciate that. 00:11:34.82\00:11:36.46 That'd be a good project to work on. 00:11:36.49\00:11:38.03 We do have some resources along those lines, but we'll tell you 00:11:38.06\00:11:41.86 about that later. 00:11:41.90\00:11:43.23 And your question, Glenn. 00:11:43.26\00:11:44.57 Glenn: Thank you very much and thank you for taking my 00:11:44.60\00:11:46.10 question, which is Leviticus 11. 00:11:46.13\00:11:49.90 Is it possible that teaching of abstaining from eating animal 00:11:49.94\00:11:53.61 products a slap in God's face? 00:11:53.64\00:11:57.31 Doug: Say, isn't it possible that eating them is a slap in 00:11:57.35\00:12:02.28 God's face, you say? 00:12:02.32\00:12:04.05 Glenn: Yes, you're not eating it. 00:12:04.09\00:12:05.99 He's teaching the abstaining from eating animal products. 00:12:06.02\00:12:09.76 Doug: Oh, well, when God says that he specifies what animals 00:12:09.79\00:12:13.60 may be eaten, He wasn't commanding that they had to eat 00:12:13.63\00:12:17.33 and so not choosing not to eat it is--was not an insult. 00:12:17.37\00:12:21.80 You know, there's things that God has allowed because of the 00:12:21.84\00:12:25.04 hardness of people's heart, but it wasn't His will. 00:12:25.07\00:12:27.84 God made laws about slavery. 00:12:27.88\00:12:30.55 So, if we say, "Well, you know, God made laws about slavery, I 00:12:30.58\00:12:34.18 don't want to insult Him, so I better get some slaves." 00:12:34.22\00:12:37.19 No, that's not a good argument. 00:12:37.22\00:12:38.85 God made laws about divorce and so you say, "Well, since He made 00:12:38.89\00:12:41.69 laws about divorce, may as well get divorced." 00:12:41.72\00:12:44.19 And because He made laws about what animals can be eaten, 00:12:44.23\00:12:46.66 doesn't mean you have to kill and eat animals. 00:12:46.70\00:12:48.83 It's because of the hardness of our hearts or you might say 00:12:48.86\00:12:51.70 hardness of our arteries. 00:12:51.73\00:12:53.07 He said, "If you're going to eat meat, do not eat the 00:12:53.10\00:12:55.34 unclean meats. 00:12:55.37\00:12:56.71 These are the meats to eat." 00:12:56.74\00:12:58.07 And God says, whatever you do, you know, whatever you sow, 00:12:58.11\00:13:02.78 you're going to reap. 00:13:02.81\00:13:04.15 And we know scientifically now that you get cholesterol from 00:13:04.18\00:13:09.22 animal products. 00:13:09.25\00:13:10.55 That people are a lot healthier if you're a vegetarian and 00:13:10.59\00:13:13.66 better yet a vegan, you're going to live longer and have 00:13:13.69\00:13:15.56 less disease. 00:13:15.59\00:13:16.93 The jury's in, we know that. 00:13:16.96\00:13:18.56 And so, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. 00:13:18.59\00:13:20.73 You're obviously going to do better if you take care of 00:13:20.76\00:13:24.63 your body. 00:13:24.67\00:13:25.97 Now, a lot of doctors will say limit, you know, red meats, 00:13:26.00\00:13:29.14 limit certain kinds of meats. 00:13:29.17\00:13:31.11 Certainly, you don't want to eat pork, they don't even grade pork 00:13:31.14\00:13:35.08 prime because it's so infested. 00:13:35.11\00:13:37.45 But no, it's not an insult to God because He gave permission 00:13:37.48\00:13:41.15 to eat certain kinds of meats, does not mean you need to do it. 00:13:41.18\00:13:45.45 It means it was because of the hardness of our hearts. 00:13:45.49\00:13:47.92 He said, "If you're going to do it, here are the laws." 00:13:47.96\00:13:50.76 But that was definitely not His original plan and in heaven, 00:13:50.79\00:13:54.46 we're not going to be killing and eating animals. 00:13:54.46\00:13:57.13 And Adam and Eve weren't doing it in the Garden of Eden. 00:13:57.17\00:14:00.17 Jëan: You know, we have a study guide. 00:14:00.20\00:14:01.44 It's called, "God's Free Health Plan" and it gives the biblical 00:14:01.47\00:14:04.24 principles for living a healthy life and not only dealing with 00:14:04.27\00:14:07.84 diet, but other areas of guidance that we find 00:14:07.88\00:14:10.25 in Scriptures. 00:14:10.28\00:14:11.58 It's very informative. 00:14:11.61\00:14:12.95 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:14:12.98\00:14:14.55 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:14:14.58\00:14:18.72 That's 800-835-6747. 00:14:18.75\00:14:21.29 Ask for the study guide, it's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:14:21.32\00:14:24.06 You can also dial #250 and say, "Bible answers live" and then 00:14:24.09\00:14:28.43 ask for it by name. 00:14:28.46\00:14:30.27 All right, thank you, Glenn and Linda, next caller that we have 00:14:30.30\00:14:32.67 is Matt in California. 00:14:32.70\00:14:34.20 Matt, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:14:34.24\00:14:37.47 Matt: Hey, good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:14:37.51\00:14:40.71 Thank you for taking my call and my question. 00:14:40.74\00:14:43.91 So my question is, what did a biblical marriage consist of? 00:14:43.95\00:14:48.15 My understanding was, back then, a man would ask the father of 00:14:48.18\00:14:55.12 the wife to be married and then they would pretty much be 00:14:55.16\00:14:57.99 married after that, correct? 00:14:58.03\00:14:59.33 And then was there like a minister or a priest who married 00:14:59.36\00:15:03.73 them and then entered into a marriage contract kind of like 00:15:03.77\00:15:06.33 we have today or how did that work? 00:15:06.37\00:15:09.07 Doug: Yeah, that is a good question, but it's probably a 00:15:09.10\00:15:12.71 lengthy answer to give you a lot of history. 00:15:12.74\00:15:15.71 The first marriage God performed for Adam and Eve. 00:15:15.74\00:15:18.75 Adam and Eve did not have to have a big ceremony because the 00:15:18.78\00:15:21.38 ceremony is basically you're witnessing to the community that 00:15:21.42\00:15:25.25 there's been a covenant. 00:15:25.29\00:15:26.59 There was no community besides the angels. 00:15:26.62\00:15:29.62 And so, but then, as time went on, you see that by the time you 00:15:29.66\00:15:33.33 get to, you know, Jacob and Isaac, well, Isaac's marriage to 00:15:33.36\00:15:38.17 Rebecca was pretty perfunctory. 00:15:38.20\00:15:40.00 It says he took her to his mother's tent, she became 00:15:40.04\00:15:41.94 his wife. 00:15:41.97\00:15:43.20 But Jacob, they had a marriage feast and it lasted days, and 00:15:43.24\00:15:46.64 the story of Samson, there was a marriage feast. 00:15:46.68\00:15:48.84 And then, of course, Jesus's first miracle is a 00:15:48.88\00:15:50.75 marriage feast. 00:15:50.78\00:15:52.11 That's because the marriage covenant was something that 00:15:52.15\00:15:54.82 affected people socially. 00:15:54.85\00:15:56.95 The family knew these people have made a covenant. 00:15:56.99\00:15:59.89 They're now, you know, married for life. 00:15:59.92\00:16:02.52 They're not available. 00:16:02.56\00:16:03.89 They're off the market, so to speak, and that was to 00:16:03.93\00:16:06.13 be respected. 00:16:06.16\00:16:07.46 There were severe penalties for violating the marriage vow. 00:16:07.50\00:16:11.07 One of the Ten Commandments addresses that. 00:16:11.10\00:16:13.13 So it was something that was done publicly. 00:16:13.17\00:16:16.04 There was usually a dating period. 00:16:16.07\00:16:18.24 The dating period back then was not only to make sure the 00:16:18.27\00:16:21.81 parties were compatible. 00:16:21.84\00:16:23.58 The families were often largely involved and there was a dowry, 00:16:23.61\00:16:26.78 an agreement for what the price would be. 00:16:26.82\00:16:29.42 So, yeah, it's kind of evolved over time, but the idea of the 00:16:29.45\00:16:34.82 marriage ceremony is almost universal around the world. 00:16:34.86\00:16:37.53 So the community, there's witnesses knows these people 00:16:37.56\00:16:40.13 have made a covenant and it was something celebrated from that 00:16:40.16\00:16:43.23 point on. 00:16:43.26\00:16:44.57 They were to be for just one another. 00:16:44.60\00:16:47.34 Jëan: And of course the marriage covenant was not only recognized 00:16:47.37\00:16:49.87 by the people getting married, but as Pastor Doug mentioned, 00:16:49.90\00:16:53.14 the families recognized it and society recognized it. 00:16:53.17\00:16:56.75 And so today, we have certain laws when people get married 00:16:56.78\00:17:00.52 that gets recognized by the state and there's certain 00:17:00.55\00:17:03.18 privileges and rights that a married couple has. 00:17:03.22\00:17:05.45 So, you want to be married both in God's eyes, but also be 00:17:05.49\00:17:09.72 recognized by society, by the community, by the laws of 00:17:09.76\00:17:12.93 the state. 00:17:12.96\00:17:14.66 Doug: Yeah, and you can see the what happens in a culture, 00:17:14.73\00:17:17.50 because it's happening today, where men go around fathering 00:17:17.53\00:17:21.50 children, but they don't stay around to father them and they 00:17:21.54\00:17:25.34 just kind of procreating and you have a lot of children growing 00:17:25.37\00:17:27.74 up without families and fathers and it causes problems. 00:17:27.78\00:17:32.15 Statistically, it's kind of a known fact. 00:17:32.18\00:17:34.98 Those young people are going to have a higher percentage of 00:17:35.02\00:17:37.69 problems growing up. 00:17:37.72\00:17:39.02 Jëan: All right, we do have a study guide. 00:17:39.05\00:17:40.29 It's called, "Keys for a Happy Marriage" and gives some good 00:17:40.32\00:17:42.89 biblical counsel for those who are married, for those who are 00:17:42.92\00:17:45.26 thinking about getting married. 00:17:45.29\00:17:46.73 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:17:46.76\00:17:50.13 And you can ask for that study guide, "Keys for a 00:17:50.17\00:17:52.30 Happy Marriage." 00:17:52.33\00:17:53.67 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:17:53.70\00:17:56.04 Say, "Bible answers live," and then ask for that by name, "Keys 00:17:56.07\00:17:59.57 for a Happy Marriage." 00:17:59.61\00:18:01.61 Ellie in Kansas, I believe it's Ellie. 00:18:01.64\00:18:04.05 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:18:04.08\00:18:06.38 Ellie: Yeah, yeah, my question is why did God 00:18:06.41\00:18:11.32 stop talking to us directly? 00:18:11.35\00:18:13.36 Because, you know, I cannot understand why when He 00:18:13.39\00:18:20.16 told Noah to create the ark, He told him directly, right? 00:18:20.20\00:18:26.50 But I cannot understand why He doesn't talk to us 00:18:26.53\00:18:31.17 directly today. 00:18:31.21\00:18:33.11 Doug: Well, I think God still does speak more directly to 00:18:33.14\00:18:36.81 some people. 00:18:36.85\00:18:38.15 We know that God says in His Word that, you know, the Lord 00:18:38.18\00:18:40.78 does nothing, but He tells His secret to His servants, 00:18:40.82\00:18:43.12 the prophets. 00:18:43.15\00:18:44.49 They are prophets that God speaks to and He might speak 00:18:44.52\00:18:47.76 through a dream, a vision, an angel, a few of them, like 00:18:47.79\00:18:51.56 Abraham, He speaks face to face--or Noah. 00:18:51.59\00:18:54.36 These are prophets and the gift of prophecy is still very 00:18:54.36\00:18:57.83 much alive. 00:18:57.87\00:18:59.17 But most people God does not speak to directly. 00:18:59.20\00:19:02.14 Most people, it says in Isaiah, our sins have separated us 00:19:02.17\00:19:05.64 from God. 00:19:05.67\00:19:06.91 And if God were to talk to us, you know, some people we just 00:19:06.94\00:19:13.05 could not endure His presence. 00:19:13.08\00:19:15.48 So it might even be an act of mercy, but God does still speak 00:19:15.52\00:19:19.35 to people. 00:19:19.39\00:19:20.69 And I don't know of any prophets personally, but I know there 00:19:20.72\00:19:23.99 have been some in recent history. 00:19:24.03\00:19:26.06 Jëan: But, you know, the Bible also tells us that, yes, in 00:19:26.09\00:19:27.83 addition to the Word of God, which of course is God 00:19:27.86\00:19:30.63 communicating to us, He does speak through prophets, but if 00:19:30.67\00:19:34.00 somebody is seeking God's will, there are times so we got, you 00:19:34.04\00:19:37.31 know, test everything with Scripture. 00:19:37.34\00:19:39.27 But there are times where you hear that still small voice, as 00:19:39.31\00:19:43.21 the Bible puts it, the Holy Spirit would guide a person. 00:19:43.24\00:19:46.31 You might not hear an audible voice, but you might have a 00:19:46.35\00:19:49.55 strong--I don't know what you'd want to call it--impression 00:19:49.58\00:19:53.52 perhaps that you feel as though God is guiding you a 00:19:53.56\00:19:56.06 certain way. 00:19:56.09\00:19:57.39 Of course, you want to test all of that by Scripture, but 00:19:57.43\00:19:59.93 there's many instances, I think in my life, Pastor Doug, yours 00:19:59.96\00:20:02.33 where you look back and say, "Wow, that just seemed very 00:20:02.36\00:20:05.63 clear that the Lord is pushing me in a certain direction." 00:20:05.67\00:20:09.67 Doug: Absolutely. 00:20:09.70\00:20:11.17 Jëan: All right, thank you. 00:20:11.21\00:20:12.51 Next caller that we have, oh, you know, we do have a book. 00:20:12.54\00:20:14.24 It's called, "Determining the Will of God." 00:20:14.28\00:20:15.91 Probably talks about this and gives you some 00:20:15.94\00:20:17.51 biblical principles. 00:20:17.55\00:20:19.41 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:20:19.45\00:20:21.25 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:20:21.28\00:20:24.65 It's 800-835-6747. 00:20:24.69\00:20:27.26 As for the book, "Determining the Will of God." 00:20:27.29\00:20:29.89 You can dial #250 and you can ask for it that way as well. 00:20:29.92\00:20:34.03 Next caller is Chuck in Virginia. 00:20:34.10\00:20:35.76 Chuck, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:20:35.80\00:20:37.80 Chuck: Hi, good evening, pastors. 00:20:37.83\00:20:39.17 My question is concerning Ezekiel 10. 00:20:39.20\00:20:41.80 It refers to cherubim and faces and wheels and wings full of 00:20:41.84\00:20:45.74 eyes, as well as four faces and four wings. 00:20:45.77\00:20:49.04 I would like to know what this chapter represents. 00:20:49.08\00:20:51.85 Thank you. 00:20:51.88\00:20:53.21 Doug: Yeah, well, you'll find that not only in Ezekiel chapter 00:20:53.25\00:20:57.05 10, I think you'll also find it in Ezekiel chapter 1, and the 00:20:57.09\00:21:01.56 four creatures, you also find those same four creatures 00:21:01.59\00:21:04.79 mentioned in Revelation-- is it chapter 4?-- 00:21:04.83\00:21:08.06 that it talks about them. 00:21:08.10\00:21:09.43 And maybe we'll start there because you start getting into 00:21:09.46\00:21:12.03 the wheels within the wheels and it's pretty, it's pretty deep. 00:21:12.07\00:21:16.64 There's been a couple of ideas about what these four 00:21:16.67\00:21:19.31 creatures represent. 00:21:19.34\00:21:21.74 You've got a lion, you've got a man, you've got a calf, and 00:21:21.78\00:21:26.95 you've got an eagle. 00:21:26.98\00:21:28.52 And these are different attributes of Christ. 00:21:28.55\00:21:31.85 You find them reflected in the Gospels. 00:21:31.89\00:21:35.39 In Matthew, for instance, Jesus is the lion of the tribe 00:21:35.42\00:21:38.46 of Judah. 00:21:38.49\00:21:39.79 In Mark, Mark is speaking more to the Romans, but it also shows 00:21:39.83\00:21:44.97 the vision and the swiftness of God. 00:21:45.00\00:21:47.94 You've got Luke, who is a physician and he shows the 00:21:47.97\00:21:50.67 humanity of Christ. 00:21:50.71\00:21:52.87 And then you've got John and he shows Jesus as the sacrifice, 00:21:52.91\00:21:56.58 the calf. 00:21:56.61\00:21:57.95 And so these creatures that you find in these apocalyptic 00:21:57.98\00:22:01.55 prophecies of Revelation and Ezekiel are showing different 00:22:01.58\00:22:06.52 dimensions of God, different facets. 00:22:06.55\00:22:10.06 Jëan: It's also interesting if you look at the order that's 00:22:10.09\00:22:11.79 given in Revelation. 00:22:11.83\00:22:13.16 Revelation 4, you have a lion which could represent 00:22:13.19\00:22:16.16 Christ's pre-incarnation. 00:22:16.20\00:22:18.40 Then you have the calf, Jesus came to be our sacrifice to bear 00:22:18.43\00:22:21.40 our sins. 00:22:21.44\00:22:22.77 And then you have the man, Christ ascended to heaven. 00:22:22.80\00:22:24.67 He is our high priest, ministering. 00:22:24.71\00:22:26.78 And then you have the eagle, Jesus coming back as King of 00:22:26.81\00:22:29.51 kings and Lord of lords. 00:22:29.54\00:22:30.85 He's coming and eagle is often associated with judgment. 00:22:30.88\00:22:34.15 It's swift, connected with royalty or rulership. 00:22:34.18\00:22:37.59 So Jesus comes as King of kings and Lord of lords. 00:22:37.62\00:22:39.95 So you kind of almost see the sequence of the different phases 00:22:39.99\00:22:42.92 of Christ's ministry reflected. 00:22:42.96\00:22:45.23 But we do believe that these are four angelic beings that make up 00:22:45.26\00:22:48.93 or surround God's throne. 00:22:48.96\00:22:51.07 And you read about that more in Revelation chapter 4 and 5. 00:22:51.10\00:22:55.14 Doug: Yeah, and the wheel within the wheel that's sort of a key 00:22:55.17\00:22:57.21 to all life in that whether it's, what do you call it? 00:22:57.24\00:23:01.94 An electron and an atom, you've got one globe circling another 00:23:01.98\00:23:07.85 globe all the way to not only the human cell, but you go into 00:23:07.88\00:23:10.95 the solar system and the galaxies, and everything seems 00:23:10.99\00:23:14.12 to be wheels within a wheel. 00:23:14.16\00:23:16.49 And, you know, in the galaxies you've got these suns that are 00:23:16.52\00:23:19.13 being orbited by planets and it's just the whole Milky Way 00:23:19.16\00:23:23.03 and everything is like a revolving wheel within a wheel. 00:23:23.06\00:23:25.40 So it's sort of one of the mysteries of life. 00:23:25.43\00:23:29.10 Jëan: All right, next one that we have is Alfred in Canada. 00:23:29.14\00:23:31.24 Alfred, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:23:31.27\00:23:34.28 Alfred: Yes, thank you for taking my call, pastors. 00:23:34.31\00:23:36.98 Doug: Thanks for calling. 00:23:37.01\00:23:38.95 Alfred: I was just wondering, when I'm reading in the New 00:23:38.98\00:23:40.85 Testament, it talks about God the Father and Jesus the Son, 00:23:40.88\00:23:45.49 especially in John 3:16, with this God all of the world that 00:23:45.52\00:23:48.32 He gave His only begotten Son. 00:23:48.36\00:23:50.59 A person will get the impression that God is a single parent. 00:23:50.63\00:23:54.20 Is that so? 00:23:54.20\00:23:56.16 Doug: No, you know, when you start thinking of God as the 00:23:56.20\00:23:59.77 Father and Jesus as the Son, we've got to be careful not to 00:23:59.80\00:24:03.14 try to relate Them to an earthly family. 00:24:03.17\00:24:07.31 It's just showing the wonderful love between the Father and 00:24:07.34\00:24:11.51 the Son. 00:24:11.55\00:24:12.78 When He made His sacrifice, He so loved the world He gave His 00:24:12.81\00:24:15.58 Son, His only begotten Son. 00:24:15.62\00:24:17.95 And it's actually an allusion back to when God told Abraham to 00:24:17.99\00:24:23.29 give his son that as a sacrifice, I've heard some 00:24:23.32\00:24:28.63 people say, "Well, God, God is the Father and the Holy Spirit's 00:24:28.66\00:24:31.93 the Mother, and Jesus is the byproduct." 00:24:31.97\00:24:34.74 No, I think it, you know, we're trying to bring God down to our 00:24:34.77\00:24:37.47 level when we start using statements like that. 00:24:37.51\00:24:41.08 So, no, Jesus is not--it's not like He's an only child in and 00:24:41.11\00:24:46.41 that God brought Him up in a single parent family home. 00:24:46.45\00:24:49.98 Jëan: Yes, because then that kind of leads to the question, 00:24:50.02\00:24:51.65 well, then, was there a point when Christ did not exist and it 00:24:51.69\00:24:54.49 was just the Father, and then Christ came forth somehow or was 00:24:54.52\00:24:57.86 begotten from the Father? 00:24:57.89\00:24:59.19 No. 00:24:59.23\00:25:00.63 The Bible says that both the Father and the Son and the Holy 00:25:00.66\00:25:02.36 Spirit, They all share the qualities of divinity, meaning 00:25:02.40\00:25:05.83 that there is the eternal. 00:25:05.87\00:25:07.40 There is no beginning, no end. 00:25:07.44\00:25:09.00 So you have the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, sometimes called 00:25:09.04\00:25:11.27 the godhead or the Trinity, and They share certain qualities 00:25:11.31\00:25:14.54 or characteristics. 00:25:14.58\00:25:15.91 They are united in the work of saving mankind. 00:25:15.94\00:25:18.48 They're omnipresent, They're omniscient, They--you know, 00:25:18.51\00:25:22.52 all powerful. 00:25:22.55\00:25:23.79 So all of these qualities and characteristics are manifest, 00:25:23.82\00:25:26.39 and yet you have Christ who came to the earth. 00:25:26.42\00:25:29.52 He was our sacrifice. 00:25:29.56\00:25:31.26 God the Father, the ruler of the universe, the Holy Spirit, 00:25:31.29\00:25:33.90 He's the gift that works in us and through us and reveals the 00:25:33.93\00:25:36.93 presence of God. 00:25:36.97\00:25:38.27 So They're all working together to save mankind. 00:25:38.30\00:25:41.40 You know, we do have a book, Pastor Doug. 00:25:41.44\00:25:42.77 It's called, "The Trinity: Is It Biblical?" and it talks about-- 00:25:42.80\00:25:45.91 Doug: Or actually--I'm sorry, that's the old one. 00:25:45.94\00:25:47.98 The new one, "The Trinity: One God or Three?" 00:25:48.01\00:25:50.11 Jëan: Oh, okay, good, we updated the title, good. 00:25:50.15\00:25:52.85 We'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:25:52.88\00:25:54.82 Just call and ask for that book on, "The Trinity: One God 00:25:54.85\00:25:57.35 or Three?" 00:25:57.39\00:25:58.69 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:25:58.72\00:26:01.69 That is our resource phone line. Again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:26:01.72\00:26:06.90 Ask for the book on "The Trinity," you can dial #250 00:26:06.93\00:26:09.90 and just ask for it by name. 00:26:09.93\00:26:12.10 You know, I'm looking at the clock, Pastor Doug, we probably 00:26:12.13\00:26:14.27 don't have time to take another call before we take the break, 00:26:14.30\00:26:16.64 but somebody did mention about prophecy being fulfilled. 00:26:16.67\00:26:19.81 Do we have anything in "Amazing Facts" that kind of highlights 00:26:19.84\00:26:22.01 some of the prophecies of Scripture and the fulfillment? 00:26:22.04\00:26:24.88 We do have a DVD, a video, actually, I think it's 00:26:24.91\00:26:27.88 available, that talks about prophecies in the Old Testament 00:26:27.92\00:26:31.72 that pointed to Christ. 00:26:31.75\00:26:33.32 Doug: "The Bride, The Beast, and Babylon" is one, and then we 00:26:33.36\00:26:37.16 also have "Kingdoms in Time." 00:26:37.19\00:26:39.43 And you can order that from "Amazing Facts." 00:26:39.46\00:26:42.50 You know, we don't make any money by letting you know you 00:26:42.53\00:26:44.53 can probably watch it for free on YouTube as well. 00:26:44.57\00:26:47.14 But one of them is called "The Bride, the Beast, and Babylon." 00:26:47.17\00:26:50.31 I think it's got like over a million views right now 00:26:50.34\00:26:52.34 on YouTube. 00:26:52.37\00:26:54.18 And it takes a number of Old Testament prophecies and shows 00:26:54.21\00:26:57.78 their fulfillment as well as "Kingdoms in Time." 00:26:57.81\00:27:00.98 It's a different DVD that is very popular and I think people 00:27:01.02\00:27:05.69 can purchase that on Amazon, but you can also probably see it 00:27:05.72\00:27:09.49 on YouTube. 00:27:09.52\00:27:10.86 Everyone copies everything, puts it up on YouTube. 00:27:10.89\00:27:12.76 That music does not mean the program's over, means it's time 00:27:12.79\00:27:15.43 to tell your friends to call and tune in. 00:27:15.46\00:27:17.10 We'll be back in just about two minutes with more 00:27:17.13\00:27:19.27 Bible questions. 00:27:19.30\00:27:20.64 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:24.01\00:27:25.31 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:25.34\00:27:27.48 ¤¤¤ 00:27:31.41\00:27:38.39 Sarah: When I was growing up in the Philippines, we were not 00:27:38.42\00:27:41.76 really churchgoers, it's just only special occasions that 00:27:41.79\00:27:45.93 we go. 00:27:45.96\00:27:47.73 When my husband and I got married, we had the opportunity 00:27:47.76\00:27:50.77 to move here in the USA. 00:27:50.80\00:27:53.60 So during those years we were blessed that every year we get 00:27:53.64\00:27:57.27 the chance to go back to the Philippines and visit 00:27:57.31\00:27:59.84 our parents. 00:27:59.87\00:28:02.61 It came to the point that my father was getting like ill and 00:28:02.64\00:28:08.72 getting weaker. 00:28:08.75\00:28:10.72 It was in July 2018 when he told me, "Why will you go back in the 00:28:10.75\00:28:16.96 USA when your dad is passing away?" 00:28:16.99\00:28:20.66 But I have to go back. 00:28:20.70\00:28:22.56 I didn't get the chance to talk to him anymore. 00:28:22.60\00:28:25.40 It was in October when he passed. 00:28:25.43\00:28:29.44 After my dad passed away, it was the first time now that I 00:28:29.47\00:28:34.04 thought about death, wondering where he is. 00:28:34.08\00:28:37.48 I knelt down and prayed, "Lord God, please lead me on what is 00:28:37.51\00:28:42.88 the truth." 00:28:42.92\00:28:44.89 I work at the University Medical Center. 00:28:44.92\00:28:48.26 One of my patients, he was a pastor and there was one day 00:28:48.29\00:28:52.49 that he gave me a DVD from Amazing Facts, and it's called 00:28:52.53\00:28:56.93 "Cosmic Conflict." 00:28:56.97\00:28:58.27 So when I watched the DVD, that made me more interested about 00:28:58.30\00:29:02.50 good and evil. 00:29:02.54\00:29:05.31 From this point on, I've been like almost every day I'd watch 00:29:05.34\00:29:11.41 Pastor Doug videos. 00:29:11.45\00:29:13.35 Every time when I listen, it's just so clear. 00:29:13.38\00:29:16.42 It just made sense. 00:29:16.45\00:29:18.42 So after learning about the Sabbath, after learning about 00:29:18.45\00:29:22.79 unclean food, about tithing, that's when I started like, "I'm 00:29:22.82\00:29:27.66 getting to know Jesus more." 00:29:27.73\00:29:31.40 When I started this journey, my husband saw a change in me. 00:29:31.43\00:29:36.44 I learned to be more patient to him and then one day I asked him 00:29:36.47\00:29:41.44 if he wanted to go to Bible study to just listen to the 00:29:41.48\00:29:45.71 Bible study. 00:29:45.75\00:29:47.05 And a year later after those Bible studies, he was baptized 00:29:47.08\00:29:52.22 after I was baptized. 00:29:52.25\00:29:55.16 So I'm grateful that God used "Amazing Facts" to share 00:29:55.19\00:29:59.76 the truth. 00:29:59.79\00:30:02.23 My name is Sarah. 00:30:02.26\00:30:03.83 Thank you for changing my life. 00:30:03.87\00:30:06.20 announcer: Would you like to know God's plan for our broken 00:30:14.34\00:30:16.81 world as revealed in Bible prophecy? 00:32:36.79\00:32:38.12 This is Tim the street evangelist from San Antonio. 00:32:38.15\00:32:40.79 Doug: Oh, good to hear from you again. 00:32:40.82\00:32:43.09 Tim: Yeah, you know, every day I tell your story to somebody, I 00:32:43.12\00:32:47.60 mean, over and over and over again. 00:32:47.66\00:32:50.03 I went in the store shopping one day. 00:32:50.07\00:32:51.90 I had an hour. 00:32:51.93\00:32:53.23 It was Sabbath was coming up. 00:32:53.27\00:32:54.80 I thought, I'm going to take 21 of these Bible card, three 00:32:54.84\00:32:57.64 EBN cards. 00:32:57.67\00:32:58.91 I went in there in a half hour I witnessed the 21 people who got 00:32:58.94\00:33:02.04 my shopping done, got home, drove home, and was able to work 00:33:02.08\00:33:05.58 out for ten minutes. 00:33:05.61\00:33:06.95 Doug: Oh, wow, that's industrial strength witnessing. 00:33:06.98\00:33:09.55 Good for you, Tim. 00:33:09.58\00:33:11.12 Tim: Yeah, so my question is about the healing leaves in the 00:33:11.15\00:33:17.66 garden that heals the nations in the New Jerusalem and why would 00:33:17.69\00:33:23.87 that be there? 00:33:23.90\00:33:25.40 Doug: You know, when you notice it says in Revelation, I think 00:33:25.43\00:33:28.44 it's 21 or is it 22? 00:33:28.47\00:33:30.51 Says, "The leaves of the tree are for the healing of 00:33:30.54\00:33:32.14 the nations." 00:33:32.17\00:33:34.21 It doesn't say healing of people, it's a healing 00:33:34.24\00:33:36.95 of nations. 00:33:36.98\00:33:38.75 All of the nations in this world are divided by everything from 00:33:38.78\00:33:44.25 political to cultural to racial differences. 00:33:44.29\00:33:48.22 But when we get to heaven and we're standing around that tree 00:33:48.26\00:33:51.06 of life under those leaves, all of those divisions are healed. 00:33:51.09\00:33:55.00 I've heard it explained that way. 00:33:55.03\00:33:57.40 And you have the verse there. 00:33:57.43\00:33:58.73 Jëan: Yeah, Revelation 22 verse 2, where I'll read it. 00:33:58.77\00:34:02.37 "In the middle of the street, and on either side of the river, 00:34:02.40\00:34:05.17 was the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruit, each tree 00:34:05.21\00:34:09.44 yielding its fruit every month. 00:34:09.48\00:34:10.81 The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." 00:34:10.85\00:34:14.62 Just to add to that, Pastor Doug, you know, 00:34:14.65\00:34:16.02 this is a big tree. 00:34:16.05\00:34:17.35 You read the dimensions, it's massive. 00:34:17.39\00:34:18.75 And back in Bible times, people would often gather, especially 00:34:18.79\00:34:22.89 in the heat of a day, under a tree. 00:34:22.92\00:34:25.63 There'd be a large tree. 00:34:25.66\00:34:26.96 Matter of fact, in the Old Testament, talks about Abraham. 00:34:27.00\00:34:29.16 It speaks about places where there were certain trees, 00:34:29.20\00:34:31.93 sycamore trees, and so trees were important and people would 00:34:31.97\00:34:34.87 gather under trees, they'd visit, they'd socialize. 00:34:34.90\00:34:37.74 There would be discussions that would take place and it's as if 00:34:37.77\00:34:40.64 this tree in the New Jerusalem is a gathering point where 00:34:40.68\00:34:43.24 people gather together. 00:34:43.28\00:34:44.61 They'll talk, they'll visit. 00:34:44.65\00:34:46.05 And as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, there is some healing, 00:34:46.08\00:34:48.85 some clarification, one might say, amongst the nations. 00:34:48.88\00:34:52.75 And there'll be peace and harmony. 00:34:52.79\00:34:54.82 Not that anyone will be getting sick in heaven and some you have 00:34:54.86\00:34:57.46 to pluck a leaf and chew on it in order to get your 00:34:57.49\00:34:59.46 strength back. 00:34:59.49\00:35:01.36 It's more for healing the nations. 00:35:01.40\00:35:03.00 Doug: You know, one other thing I've heard, and by the way, 00:35:03.03\00:35:05.20 whenever you read Revelation, I'm going to do a 00:35:05.23\00:35:06.80 series someday. 00:35:06.84\00:35:08.17 Just go through Revelation and show the 00:35:08.20\00:35:09.50 Old Testament parallels. 00:35:09.54\00:35:10.87 But in Ezekiel 47, it says, "Along the bank of the river, on 00:35:10.91\00:35:15.01 this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for 00:35:15.04\00:35:17.65 food; Their leaves will not wither, their fruit will 00:35:17.68\00:35:20.35 not fail. 00:35:20.38\00:35:21.72 They will bear their fruit every month," it says that about the 00:35:21.75\00:35:23.82 Tree of Life, "because the waters flow from the sanctuary," 00:35:23.85\00:35:27.19 talks about a river flowing from the temple of God in heaven. 00:35:27.22\00:35:29.96 "The fruit will be for food and the leaves for medicine." 00:35:29.99\00:35:33.93 So, the other thing I've heard is that, because of sin, even 00:35:33.96\00:35:37.67 our glorified bodies, we're going to come forth from the 00:35:37.70\00:35:41.24 grave, we'll have eternal bodies, but we will continue to 00:35:41.27\00:35:44.74 grow, and it's like, you know, whatever has stunted us through 00:35:44.77\00:35:48.71 sin, we're going to continue to grow and these leaves will have 00:35:48.74\00:35:52.58 something to do with that. 00:35:52.61\00:35:54.42 The fruit perpetuates life, the leaves help us grow into the 00:35:54.45\00:35:56.65 fullness of God's original plan, I'm not sure, but it'll be good. 00:35:56.69\00:36:01.22 Jëan: Okay, thank you, Tim. 00:36:01.26\00:36:03.49 Connie in Arizona. 00:36:03.53\00:36:04.86 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:36:04.89\00:36:07.66 Connie: Yes, good evening, gentlemen. 00:36:07.66\00:36:10.20 My question is in Genesis. 00:36:10.23\00:36:13.13 I've always been very curious and I have many questions asked 00:36:13.17\00:36:16.27 of me when God said He would "make man in Our image" 00:36:16.30\00:36:22.41 that makes obviously God as a plural God. 00:36:22.44\00:36:25.85 There are three in the godhead. 00:36:25.88\00:36:28.72 What does He mean in your interpretation of 00:36:28.75\00:36:33.12 "In Our image"? 00:36:33.15\00:36:35.09 What image would we be, then? 00:36:35.12\00:36:37.49 Doug: All right, for one thing, when it tells us about the image 00:36:37.53\00:36:40.16 of God, there is a physiological likeness in that, when you read 00:36:40.20\00:36:45.27 about God in the Bible, it describes God with eyes, hands, 00:36:45.30\00:36:48.84 feet, nose, arm, hair, mouth. 00:36:48.87\00:36:52.84 I mean, so we have features that are like the form of God. 00:36:52.87\00:36:58.81 And but in another sense is that in our image through an act of 00:36:58.85\00:37:04.62 love, God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit procreate in 00:37:04.65\00:37:09.12 Their image. 00:37:09.16\00:37:10.49 They made man in Their image. 00:37:10.53\00:37:11.83 Humans get married, we procreate in our image. 00:37:11.86\00:37:16.30 So we do something God does in that sense. 00:37:16.33\00:37:18.70 Man and woman get together, they become one flesh, and one of the 00:37:18.73\00:37:21.40 ways they're one flesh is by commingling their DNA in 00:37:21.44\00:37:24.81 their offspring. 00:37:24.84\00:37:26.17 And I have fun. 00:37:26.21\00:37:27.51 I was doing it yesterday. 00:37:27.54\00:37:28.88 When I see parents and then I see their children, I look at 00:37:28.91\00:37:31.18 the children and I look at the parents. 00:37:31.21\00:37:32.55 I'm always curious what features they've got from which parent, 00:37:32.58\00:37:36.82 and you can always see something from both parents usually. 00:37:36.85\00:37:40.16 So, that's another way that we are made in the image of God is 00:37:40.19\00:37:43.36 that we've been given the ability to create in our image 00:37:43.39\00:37:47.23 as God does. 00:37:47.30\00:37:48.60 Jëan: And then, of course, we have the ability to worship God, 00:37:48.63\00:37:51.63 we have the ability to communicate, to understand, 00:37:51.67\00:37:53.70 to reason. 00:37:53.74\00:37:55.04 We have free will, free choice. 00:37:55.07\00:37:56.60 So in addition to just in the image of God physically, but 00:37:56.64\00:38:00.44 even more so spiritually, we have the ability to understand, 00:38:00.48\00:38:03.61 to worship, to reason. 00:38:03.65\00:38:05.08 Doug: We can think certainly a lot more abstract than animals. 00:38:05.11\00:38:09.25 Jëan: All right, thank you, Connie. 00:38:09.28\00:38:10.62 Next caller that we have is Hector in Florida. 00:38:10.65\00:38:12.29 Hector, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:38:12.32\00:38:14.79 Hector: Thank you. Good evening, pastors. 00:38:14.82\00:38:16.36 Doug: Evening. 00:38:16.39\00:38:17.73 Hector: My questions will be based on three references. 00:38:17.76\00:38:22.60 In Luke 23, 53, 55, they left what they had intention to do 00:38:22.63\00:38:32.57 and then they return on after Sabbath, talking about-- 00:38:32.61\00:38:37.85 Then in Mark 16, verse 1, again, they returned after the Sabbath. 00:38:37.88\00:38:43.32 Then when you compare what's been said in Romans 12:16, that 00:38:43.35\00:38:49.76 pushed me to ask that question. 00:38:49.79\00:38:52.39 Do you think it is lawful to participate or attend wedding or 00:38:52.43\00:39:00.94 funeral on Sabbath? 00:39:00.97\00:39:04.54 Doug: Well, it's not preferable if it involves preparation. 00:39:04.57\00:39:10.61 Now, certainly a funeral or memorial service-- 00:39:10.65\00:39:13.75 you don't want to be involved in burying somebody. 00:39:13.78\00:39:15.82 The disciples wouldn't finish embalming the work of embalming 00:39:15.85\00:39:19.02 Jesus on the Sabbath. 00:39:19.05\00:39:20.66 So they felt that that was inappropriate, even though it 00:39:20.69\00:39:23.26 was an act of love, they thought, "Well, this is not 00:39:23.29\00:39:25.29 going to please Jesus, we'll wait till the Sabbath is over." 00:39:25.33\00:39:28.83 A marriage is also a sacred covenant and there's certainly 00:39:28.86\00:39:32.27 something spiritual about it. 00:39:32.30\00:39:33.90 But the typical preparation of a wedding and the festivities that 00:39:33.94\00:39:38.37 often are associated with it, you know, I've seen a couple 00:39:38.41\00:39:42.01 that got married in church and baptized on the same day, and it 00:39:42.04\00:39:45.28 was actually done in an appropriate way. 00:39:45.31\00:39:47.02 There was no work and stuff that usually goes on. 00:39:47.05\00:39:50.05 And I've seen memorial services done where you're just 00:39:50.09\00:39:52.89 remembering a person and praising their life of service 00:39:52.92\00:39:55.12 on the Sabbath day. 00:39:55.16\00:39:56.79 But, you know, the typical graveside service and things 00:39:56.83\00:40:00.33 that might go on with the funeral, that it would be better 00:40:00.36\00:40:02.96 to do that another day. 00:40:03.00\00:40:04.67 So I don't know. Your thoughts on that? 00:40:04.70\00:40:06.03 Jëan: Yeah, absolutely. 00:40:06.07\00:40:07.40 I mean, you got two parts for the wedding, for example. 00:40:07.44\00:40:09.20 You have the part that usually happens in the church. 00:40:09.24\00:40:12.04 It's sacred. 00:40:12.07\00:40:13.41 It's a covenant you're making before God, but then usually 00:40:13.44\00:40:15.28 there is a celebration following and that's the reception. 00:40:15.31\00:40:18.38 There's a lot of work involved in the reception. 00:40:18.41\00:40:20.82 And that's not always in line with the guidelines given in 00:40:20.85\00:40:24.42 Scripture as far as preparation and food preparation, 00:40:24.45\00:40:28.56 conversation and gathering. 00:40:28.59\00:40:30.73 Doug: And rest. 00:40:30.76\00:40:32.06 Jëan: And rest, yeah. 00:40:32.09\00:40:33.40 So I have seen folks who just wanted to have the actual 00:40:33.43\00:40:35.46 wedding part in the church on Sabbath and they weren't going 00:40:35.50\00:40:38.00 to do reception that day. 00:40:38.03\00:40:39.33 They're going to do it a different time. 00:40:39.37\00:40:40.97 Well, that's probably okay. 00:40:41.00\00:40:42.34 But even then, there's a lot of preparation that's often 00:40:42.37\00:40:44.51 involved in putting a wedding together in the church, flowers 00:40:44.54\00:40:47.34 and decorating. 00:40:47.38\00:40:48.71 We usually do weddings for us. 00:40:48.74\00:40:51.45 You know, they'll do preparations Saturday night, and 00:40:51.48\00:40:53.55 the weddings usually are on Sunday, and it doesn't conflict 00:40:53.58\00:40:56.15 with the Sabbath. 00:40:56.18\00:40:57.49 Doug: That's right. 00:40:57.52\00:40:58.99 Hope that helps a little, Hector. 00:40:59.02\00:41:00.42 Good question. Thank you. 00:41:00.46\00:41:02.29 Jëan: Marlene in Florida. Marlene, welcome to the program. 00:41:02.32\00:41:04.73 Marlene: Hello, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:41:04.76\00:41:08.03 You kind of touched on this question earlier, but my 00:41:08.06\00:41:10.67 question is the four beasts around the throne in Revelation. 00:41:10.70\00:41:15.24 Do you think that is a literal description or a symbolic 00:41:15.27\00:41:18.81 description of them? 00:41:18.84\00:41:20.84 Doug: Well, I think it's a symbol because it's hard 00:41:20.88\00:41:24.08 to imagine. 00:41:24.11\00:41:25.35 Well, there's so many symbols about beasts and creatures in 00:41:25.38\00:41:27.45 Revelation. 00:41:27.48\00:41:28.78 All the others are symbolic. 00:41:28.82\00:41:30.65 And so there are other places that picture the throne of God 00:41:30.69\00:41:33.42 without any creatures around His throne. 00:41:33.46\00:41:35.92 You've got Isaiah where it says there's actually cherubim and 00:41:35.96\00:41:38.96 that's probably more accurate. 00:41:38.99\00:41:40.56 Isaiah chapter 6, and then in Exodus when the ark is made, it 00:41:40.60\00:41:44.80 pictures two cherubim or seraphim on the right and left 00:41:44.83\00:41:48.20 of the throne of God. 00:41:48.24\00:41:49.64 These angels that guard His throne. 00:41:49.67\00:41:52.81 I don't know that God's got a zoo around His throne, but in 00:41:52.84\00:41:57.81 the--in Revelation, it uses symbolic features of an animal 00:41:57.85\00:42:01.35 to teach a lesson. 00:42:01.38\00:42:03.28 Jëan: And of course in the same chapter Jesus appears in 00:42:03.32\00:42:05.22 Revelation chapter 5 as a Lamb as it had been slain before 00:42:05.25\00:42:08.86 the throne. 00:42:08.89\00:42:10.56 So again, there's a lot of symbols in those passages. 00:42:10.59\00:42:14.03 Doug: I think these creatures are full of eyes too. 00:42:14.10\00:42:16.43 It's, you know. 00:42:16.46\00:42:17.97 Jëan: Six wings--well, they'd also had the Old Testament 00:42:18.00\00:42:20.64 description of them. 00:42:20.67\00:42:22.27 All right, thank you. 00:42:22.30\00:42:23.61 Next caller that we have is Tom in Oregon. 00:42:23.64\00:42:25.11 Tom, welcome to the program. 00:42:25.14\00:42:27.04 Tom: Hello, fellas. 00:42:27.08\00:42:29.08 Hey, I have a question about Luke 17, verse 31 to maybe 36 00:42:29.11\00:42:38.45 and then verse 24. 00:42:38.49\00:42:42.92 My question is we've always been taught that this was these 00:42:42.96\00:42:46.80 warnings were to flee Jerusalem in 8070 and it appears that 00:42:46.83\00:42:53.77 Jesus is repeating this. 00:42:53.80\00:42:56.17 It's in red letters. 00:42:56.20\00:42:58.44 Had His Second Coming. 00:42:58.47\00:43:00.91 Doug: Yeah, I do think that the statement that Christ makes in 00:43:00.94\00:43:06.58 Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 17 and Luke 21, He's doing what they 00:43:06.61\00:43:13.49 call the Olivet Discourse, talking about the Second Coming, 00:43:13.52\00:43:16.73 and He's not only talking directly to the disciples about 00:43:16.76\00:43:20.76 the destruction of Jerusalem, that is part of what He's 00:43:20.80\00:43:23.43 saying, because He says there won't be left one stone upon 00:43:23.47\00:43:26.33 another of the temple and that it would be thrown down, 00:43:26.37\00:43:29.07 and that did happen. 00:43:29.10\00:43:30.74 But He's also looking down in time to God's people near the 00:43:30.77\00:43:33.31 end of time, because there was going to be three tribulations, 00:43:33.34\00:43:38.35 you might say. 00:43:38.38\00:43:39.75 There was a literal tribulation that fell on Israel when the 00:43:39.78\00:43:43.99 Romans surrounded the city and destroyed Jerusalem. 00:43:44.02\00:43:47.66 Then there was a tribulation historically that happened to 00:43:47.69\00:43:50.39 God's people during the Dark Ages, a great persecution. 00:43:50.43\00:43:54.40 Then there'll be another great time of trouble, it talks about 00:43:54.46\00:43:57.73 in Daniel chapter 12, just before the Second Coming, when 00:43:57.77\00:44:01.94 the seven plagues are poured out. 00:44:01.97\00:44:03.57 That's when Michael stands up. 00:44:03.61\00:44:05.74 So, Christ is, I think, referring here where it says, 00:44:05.77\00:44:09.24 you know, two men are in the field. 00:44:09.28\00:44:11.45 One is taken, one is left, and He said, "Don't even take 00:44:11.48\00:44:14.18 anything out of your house." 00:44:14.22\00:44:15.55 I think He's saying not only when the Roman army showed up, 00:44:15.58\00:44:18.22 but in the last days there's going to be signals for us 00:44:18.25\00:44:20.82 to run. 00:44:20.86\00:44:22.19 Jëan: And then also the verse that in verse 24 it says, 00:44:22.22\00:44:24.56 "There's lightning that flashes from one part of heaven even to 00:44:24.59\00:44:27.60 the other, also the Son of Man shall be in His day." 00:44:27.66\00:44:30.57 So, here it's talking about the literal visible coming of 00:44:30.60\00:44:33.77 Christ, yeah. 00:44:33.80\00:44:35.14 Doug: Good point. 00:44:35.17\00:44:36.50 Jëan: All right, thank you, Tom. 00:44:36.54\00:44:37.87 We do have a study guide called, "Anything But Secret" and it's 00:44:37.91\00:44:40.91 about the Second Coming of Jesus and deals with this passage of 00:44:40.94\00:44:43.51 Scripture and others. 00:44:43.55\00:44:45.01 If you'd like to learn more, the number is 800-835-6747. 00:44:45.05\00:44:49.75 And then again, you can just ask for it by name. 00:44:49.78\00:44:51.39 It's called "Anything But Secret." 00:44:51.42\00:44:53.79 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and ask for that 00:44:53.82\00:44:57.39 study guide and we'll send it out to you. 00:44:57.43\00:45:01.00 Landon in Texas. Landon, welcome to the program. 00:45:01.03\00:45:04.37 Landon: Hello, hello, hello. How're you all doing? 00:45:04.40\00:45:07.50 Doug: Hey, you're there. Hi, good, thanks for calling. 00:45:07.54\00:45:09.00 Landon: So, I wanted to ask, I had a question about James 4 00:45:09.04\00:45:13.01 verse 7 and how it correlated to Jesus's temptation in the 00:45:13.04\00:45:18.75 wilderness and how exactly did the devil flee from Jesus when 00:45:18.78\00:45:25.99 He was tempted. 00:45:26.02\00:45:27.99 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, the devil can clearly give someone 00:45:28.02\00:45:31.09 more-direct focused attention. 00:45:31.13\00:45:33.86 And when he was tempting Jesus, he was--the devil was there 00:45:33.90\00:45:36.36 in person. 00:45:36.40\00:45:37.73 He wasn't tempting Jesus through one of his fallen angels. 00:45:37.77\00:45:40.97 I think the devil does also use up space and time. 00:45:41.00\00:45:45.14 You know, he talks about going to and fro in the earth and 00:45:45.17\00:45:47.64 walking up and down in it. 00:45:47.68\00:45:49.44 The devil is not omnipresent. 00:45:49.48\00:45:51.08 He's not all over the earth at the same time. 00:45:51.11\00:45:52.88 He works through fallen angels. 00:45:52.91\00:45:55.22 And so, you know, after Christ said, "Get behind Me, Satan"-- 00:45:55.25\00:45:58.89 He's basically saying, "Be gone"-- 00:45:58.92\00:46:01.36 the devil had to obey that and he left His presence. 00:46:01.39\00:46:07.03 And you can even see that where the devil came into the presence 00:46:07.03\00:46:10.13 of God in the book of Job and then he went out from the 00:46:10.17\00:46:12.47 presence of the Lord. 00:46:12.50\00:46:14.17 And so Jesus left the presence, where He goes, I know--where His 00:46:14.20\00:46:18.61 headquarters is, the Bible doesn't say. 00:46:18.64\00:46:21.64 Jëan: You know, there is a promise in that. 00:46:21.68\00:46:23.31 If we submit ourselves to God and we resist the devil, there 00:46:23.35\00:46:26.68 comes a point where on that particular temptation, he's 00:46:26.72\00:46:29.92 almost forced to retreat, meaning that he realizes that 00:46:29.95\00:46:32.92 he's not going to gain the victory. 00:46:32.95\00:46:34.72 And maybe at some point, God says, "All right, 00:46:34.76\00:46:36.49 enough, enough. 00:46:36.52\00:46:37.86 You got to go now." 00:46:37.89\00:46:39.19 So he finally does leave. 00:46:39.23\00:46:40.76 It doesn't mean he's not going to come back and try again, but 00:46:40.80\00:46:42.86 if we trust in the Lord, we submit and we hold on, that 00:46:42.90\00:46:46.03 temptation, the power of that temptation wanes away as we 00:46:46.07\00:46:49.80 trust in the Lord as if the devil 00:46:49.84\00:46:51.51 has been driven away from us. 00:46:51.54\00:46:53.41 Doug: Yes. 00:46:53.44\00:46:54.81 Jëan: Thank you. 00:46:54.84\00:46:56.61 You know, we do have a book called, "Tips for Resisting 00:46:56.64\00:46:58.08 Temptation" and we'll talk about this verse along with 00:46:58.11\00:46:59.61 many others. 00:46:59.65\00:47:01.02 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:47:01.05\00:47:02.62 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:47:02.65\00:47:06.35 That is the resource phone line. 00:47:06.39\00:47:07.69 It's 800-835-6747. 00:47:07.72\00:47:11.23 Ask for the book. 00:47:11.26\00:47:12.56 It's called, "Tips for Resisting Temptation." 00:47:12.59\00:47:14.40 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and say, "Bible 00:47:14.46\00:47:18.77 Answers Live" and ask for it that way as well. 00:47:18.80\00:47:21.80 Connor in Mississippi. 00:47:21.84\00:47:23.44 Connor, welcome to the program. 00:47:23.47\00:47:24.77 Connor: Hello, thank you. 00:47:24.81\00:47:28.21 So, my question was in Mark 7:17 to 23, as well as a couple 00:47:28.24\00:47:34.22 other verses in the New Testament, 00:47:34.25\00:47:36.75 God refers to pork and other unclean animals as being good 00:47:36.79\00:47:42.12 and worthy of thanksgiving and and to be accepted. 00:47:42.16\00:47:46.13 Does this mean that the old food law referenced in the 00:47:46.16\00:47:49.50 Old Testament is null? 00:47:49.53\00:47:52.17 Doug: Where does God say pork is to be accepted? 00:47:52.20\00:47:57.37 Connor: In Acts 10:15, God says, "What God has declared 00:47:57.41\00:48:00.91 clean, you must not call common." 00:48:00.94\00:48:04.15 In Mark 7:17 to 23, Jesus declares that all foods are 00:48:04.18\00:48:08.68 clean, and in 1 Timothy 4:4, "For everything God created is 00:48:08.72\00:48:14.86 good and nothing is to be rejected if it is received 00:48:14.89\00:48:17.99 with thanksgiving." 00:48:18.03\00:48:19.43 Doug: All right, you said, "God said pork was clean." 00:48:19.46\00:48:21.66 Where did you find the word "pork"? 00:48:21.70\00:48:23.00 Connor: It does not expressly refer to pork, but all animals. 00:48:23.03\00:48:27.50 Doug: I just wanted to make that clear, okay. 00:48:27.54\00:48:29.97 Now, if you go to--let's take them one at a time. 00:48:30.01\00:48:32.04 All right, so we got Acts chapter 10. 00:48:32.07\00:48:34.21 The sheet comes down from heaven and God's voice says what God 00:48:34.24\00:48:36.98 has cleansed, you must not call common. 00:48:37.01\00:48:39.35 Peter, when explaining that vision to the church later, he 00:48:39.38\00:48:42.85 says, "God has shown me not to call any man unclean." 00:48:42.88\00:48:48.56 So is it fair to say this vision is about calling food unclean? 00:48:48.59\00:48:53.36 If Peter understands, it means do not call 00:48:53.40\00:48:55.90 the Gentiles unclean. 00:48:55.93\00:48:58.00 So when Peter is explaining that vision, he says, "God has shown 00:48:58.03\00:49:01.50 me not to call any man unclean." 00:49:01.54\00:49:03.67 That's what the vision meant. 00:49:03.71\00:49:05.34 So did the vision mean anything about food or was God telling 00:49:05.37\00:49:08.38 Peter he can go preach to the Gentiles, "Don't call 00:49:08.41\00:49:10.71 them unclean"? 00:49:10.75\00:49:13.45 Connor: Well, it does refer to--if I'm pretty sure, now, I 00:49:13.48\00:49:19.52 did read this last Sabbath, but it refers to this vision is 00:49:19.55\00:49:27.76 after Peter was starting, I believe it says. 00:49:27.76\00:49:32.80 Doug: No, well, the vision happens before Peter goes 00:49:32.83\00:49:34.90 to Cornelius. 00:49:34.94\00:49:36.27 He's up on the food, he's up on the roof and he's hungry. 00:49:36.30\00:49:38.84 He's thinking about food. 00:49:38.87\00:49:40.21 He has this vision of an unclean sheet that comes down. 00:49:40.24\00:49:42.48 Now notice, this vision takes place, oh, maybe four years 00:49:42.51\00:49:46.01 after Jesus has gone to heaven. 00:49:46.05\00:49:48.25 And Peter answers when God says, "Arise, kill, and eat." 00:49:48.28\00:49:51.92 Peter says, "Not so, Lord, I've never eaten anything common 00:49:51.95\00:49:55.52 or unclean." 00:49:55.56\00:49:56.79 So Peter never heard Jesus say it was okay, because he still 00:49:56.83\00:49:59.46 hasn't eaten anything common or unclean. 00:49:59.49\00:50:01.80 And then it never says he takes anything from the sheet and 00:50:01.83\00:50:04.63 eats it. 00:50:04.67\00:50:05.97 So now he's wondering what the vision means. 00:50:06.00\00:50:08.44 If you look in verse 17, Peter's wondering in himself what the 00:50:08.47\00:50:12.27 vision means. 00:50:12.31\00:50:13.64 He obviously doesn't think it means go buy some bacon. 00:50:13.68\00:50:16.68 He's wondering what it means. 00:50:16.71\00:50:18.05 Behold, men come from a Gentile, Cornelius, knocking at the door 00:50:18.08\00:50:22.95 that very moment. 00:50:22.98\00:50:24.85 God was saying, "Do not call the Gentiles unclean." 00:50:24.89\00:50:27.82 So that's that one. 00:50:27.86\00:50:29.16 And then now you mention also where in Mark 7 where Jesus 00:50:29.19\00:50:32.93 said, "It's not what goes in a man's mouth that defiles him, 00:50:32.96\00:50:35.63 but what comes out." 00:50:35.66\00:50:37.57 And then there's a preface in there that says, "In saying 00:50:37.60\00:50:40.37 this, He declared all foods clean." 00:50:40.40\00:50:42.07 By the way, you'll only find that in the NIV Version. 00:50:42.10\00:50:46.04 In the original Greek, it says, "The food enters your mouth and 00:50:46.07\00:50:49.51 goes out, thus purging clean foods." 00:50:49.54\00:50:51.85 In other words, your food is eliminated and your stomach, 00:50:51.88\00:50:55.58 your digestive system purges if you get any dirt because you're 00:50:55.62\00:50:58.42 eating with unwashed hands. 00:50:58.45\00:51:00.12 No food, no particular food, no unclean food is mentioned in 00:51:00.16\00:51:02.92 that passage. 00:51:02.96\00:51:04.26 It's just talking about eating with hands that are not 00:51:04.29\00:51:07.30 ceremonially washed. 00:51:07.36\00:51:09.36 Jesus said, "That's not what's going to make you unclean." 00:51:09.40\00:51:12.47 And let me see, you gave three verses. 00:51:12.50\00:51:15.40 Jëan: 1 Timothy chapter 4, verse 4. 00:51:15.44\00:51:17.07 Doug: Oh, yeah, "For every creature of God 00:51:17.11\00:51:19.04 is good and nothing to be refused 00:51:19.07\00:51:20.88 if it's received with thanksgiving." 00:51:20.91\00:51:22.54 So was Paul saying here to Timothy that "you can eat 00:51:22.58\00:51:26.68 anything that might crawl across your plate"? 00:51:26.72\00:51:28.32 "It's okay to eat a cockroach skunk sandwich. 00:51:28.35\00:51:30.92 It's okay to eat buzzards. 00:51:30.95\00:51:32.25 It's okay to eat all kinds of dogs and snakes, and--" no, it's 00:51:32.29\00:51:37.09 not saying that. 00:51:37.13\00:51:38.43 The the issue is they were offering animals to pagan gods. 00:51:38.46\00:51:43.16 Now, they're offering clean animals. 00:51:43.20\00:51:45.40 Anything that the Romans sacrificed, whether it was a 00:51:45.43\00:51:49.04 sheep, a chicken, a goat, they offered it to Jupiter, Apollo, 00:51:49.07\00:51:52.67 Mercury, their gods, and the Jews were worried "we can't 00:51:52.71\00:51:56.61 eat--" these are the Jewish Christians. 00:51:56.64\00:51:57.98 "We can't eat those things. 00:51:58.01\00:51:59.31 They've been offered to pagan gods." 00:51:59.35\00:52:00.65 Paul said, "Every creature of God is cleansed because it is 00:52:00.68\00:52:04.59 sanctified by the Word of God." 00:52:04.62\00:52:06.96 So if the Word of God sanctifies something and says you can eat 00:52:06.99\00:52:10.76 these clean meats, then don't worry about if it was offered to 00:52:10.79\00:52:13.93 a pagan god. 00:52:13.96\00:52:15.56 So, they're talking about clean foods there that are offered 00:52:15.60\00:52:18.87 to idols. 00:52:18.90\00:52:20.20 Don't let that worry you, and it's like I tell my friends, if 00:52:20.24\00:52:23.91 I go to a Chinese restaurant and many Thai or Chinese restaurants 00:52:23.94\00:52:27.71 have got a Buddha at the entrance. 00:52:27.74\00:52:30.31 As some people might say, "I can't eat there because they 00:52:30.35\00:52:32.41 worship Buddha." 00:52:32.45\00:52:33.75 "Well," I say, "it doesn't bother me. 00:52:33.78\00:52:35.12 I'm not worshiping Buddha." 00:52:35.15\00:52:36.45 So, you know, but if it worries my friend, we'll go 00:52:36.48\00:52:39.15 somewhere else. 00:52:39.19\00:52:40.52 That's what Paul's talking about. 00:52:40.56\00:52:41.86 He's not saying that suddenly God now said that you can 00:52:41.89\00:52:44.83 eat anything. 00:52:44.86\00:52:46.26 What parent would tell their child--doesn't matter if you're 00:52:46.29\00:52:50.10 a Christian, Jew or what your religion is or if you're 00:52:50.13\00:52:52.83 a pagan. 00:52:52.87\00:52:54.20 What parent would tell their kid, 00:52:54.24\00:52:55.97 "We don't care what you eat"? 00:52:56.00\00:52:57.64 I mean, of course you care what they eat, because don't 00:52:57.67\00:53:00.91 be deceived. 00:53:00.94\00:53:02.28 God is not mocked. 00:53:02.31\00:53:03.61 If you eat bad food, you're going to have bad results, and 00:53:03.65\00:53:05.45 you're going to have heart disease and be overweight and 00:53:05.48\00:53:07.88 have cholesterol problems. 00:53:07.92\00:53:09.22 So, these verses are often misapplied to say that God now 00:53:09.25\00:53:12.55 said you can eat anything. 00:53:12.59\00:53:14.06 That's not true. 00:53:14.09\00:53:15.59 Jëan: All right, we do have a book. 00:53:15.62\00:53:16.96 It's called, "God's Free Health Plan." 00:53:16.99\00:53:18.29 It's one of our Amazing Facts study guides that gives more 00:53:18.33\00:53:20.46 biblical principles. 00:53:20.50\00:53:21.93 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747 or you can dial 00:53:21.96\00:53:26.27 #250 on your smartphone and ask for "God's Free Health Plan." 00:53:26.30\00:53:31.77 Angela in New York. 00:53:31.81\00:53:33.11 Angela, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:53:33.14\00:53:34.71 Angela: Hi, good evening, pastors. 00:53:34.74\00:53:36.54 How are you? 00:53:36.58\00:53:37.91 Doug: Doing great, thank you. Thanks for your call. 00:53:37.95\00:53:40.62 Angela: Okay, so my question is, I was just wondering, will 00:53:40.65\00:53:46.05 the Jews ever come to Jesus and how long is it going to take for 00:53:46.09\00:53:49.69 them to come? 00:53:49.72\00:53:51.03 And I also read something, I'm not sure if I read it in the 00:53:51.06\00:53:53.80 Bible, I mean, I know I read it in the Bible, but I'm not 00:53:53.83\00:53:56.67 sure where. 00:53:56.70\00:53:58.03 It says that they're waiting until the fullness of the 00:53:58.07\00:54:00.97 Gentiles to come and then they will be--like, accept them 00:54:01.00\00:54:07.04 through, once they become jealous or something-- 00:54:07.08\00:54:10.45 of jealousy. 00:54:10.48\00:54:11.78 Doug: Yeah, you're combining two verses. 00:54:11.81\00:54:13.65 You're on the right track, but you're combining--I think it's 00:54:13.68\00:54:15.92 in Luke 21 where it says that Jerusalem is trodden by the 00:54:15.95\00:54:19.25 Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles, and then in Romans it 00:54:19.29\00:54:22.96 says in chapter 10 verse 19, "I'll provoke you to jealousy by 00:54:22.99\00:54:27.00 those who are not a nation, I'll move you to anger by a 00:54:27.03\00:54:29.80 foolish nation." 00:54:29.83\00:54:31.17 In other words, Paul is saying that when the Jews saw the 00:54:31.20\00:54:33.94 Gentiles accepting Jehovah and turning to God, they'd say, "Oh, 00:54:33.97\00:54:37.61 maybe we'd better turn back and maybe we ought to 00:54:37.64\00:54:40.01 recognize Jesus." 00:54:40.04\00:54:41.44 Now, God's never saved people based on their 00:54:41.48\00:54:44.21 national identity. 00:54:44.25\00:54:45.68 There will be many of Abraham's children, literal Jews that, I 00:54:45.71\00:54:48.65 think, are going to be revived and turned back to the Lord. 00:54:48.68\00:54:51.49 But you're never going to have all of any one nation. 00:54:51.52\00:54:54.52 All of the Romans did not accept Jesus. 00:54:54.56\00:54:56.42 Many did, but not all. 00:54:56.46\00:54:58.36 And you will not have all of the Jews suddenly saved because 00:54:58.39\00:55:01.13 they've got a passport. 00:55:01.16\00:55:02.73 So, but there will be a great revival among the Jews and 00:55:02.76\00:55:05.83 I believe many will turn back to God. 00:55:05.87\00:55:08.34 And, you know, Paul intimates that in Romans 9:10, you 00:55:08.37\00:55:12.41 know, we didn't have time to read the whole chapter. 00:55:12.44\00:55:15.08 So, I do believe there's going to be a revival among the Jewish 00:55:15.11\00:55:19.65 people and there are other verses that imply this. 00:55:19.68\00:55:23.62 So, yeah, I don't think He's done with the Jewish nation. 00:55:23.65\00:55:28.29 Thank you very much. 00:55:28.32\00:55:29.56 We do have a book that I think you'll enjoy and it's called, 00:55:29.59\00:55:34.63 "Spiritual Israel." 00:55:34.66\00:55:35.96 I had to think for a minute. 00:55:36.00\00:55:37.33 I wrote it. 00:55:37.37\00:55:38.97 Jëan: The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:55:39.00\00:55:42.34 And again, the book is called, "Spiritual Israel." 00:55:42.37\00:55:44.74 You can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:55:44.77\00:55:47.78 Say, "Bible Answers Live" and just order it that way as well. 00:55:47.81\00:55:51.95 Rajeem from Massachusetts. 00:55:51.98\00:55:53.82 Is it Rajeem? Welcome to the program. 00:55:53.85\00:55:56.25 Rajeem: Good evening, Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross. 00:55:56.28\00:55:58.65 Thank you for taking my call. 00:55:58.69\00:56:00.06 Doug: Yeah. 00:56:00.09\00:56:01.92 Rajeem: All right, so my question was, is that I was 00:56:01.96\00:56:05.53 wondering when was the fall of Lucifer? 00:56:05.56\00:56:09.53 Doug: We think Lucifer was cast out of heaven before Adam and 00:56:09.56\00:56:12.20 Eve were created. 00:56:12.23\00:56:13.60 Part of the reason God made this world and was preparing to 00:56:13.64\00:56:16.94 populate it is to replace all the beings that had been evicted 00:56:16.97\00:56:21.24 from heaven when 1/3 of the angels follow Lucifer out of the 00:56:21.28\00:56:25.35 presence of God. 00:56:25.38\00:56:26.68 There's no specific verse that says this, but the idea that God 00:56:26.72\00:56:31.02 created the world and I think He gave Adam and Eve warning that 00:56:31.05\00:56:34.49 the end that there had been a rebellion and warned them 00:56:34.52\00:56:37.79 against temptation. 00:56:37.83\00:56:39.13 There's only one place the devil could come to them that was 00:56:39.16\00:56:41.43 there at that forbidden tree. 00:56:41.46\00:56:43.47 So Lucifer, I think, was cast out first. 00:56:43.50\00:56:46.47 Jëan: Well, Pastor Doug, we have some email questions that have 00:56:46.50\00:56:48.67 been sent to us and our first question tonight is, does the 00:56:48.70\00:56:52.21 devil have access to one's thoughts? 00:56:52.24\00:56:54.64 Doug: You know, that only in the sense that I think the devil can 00:56:54.68\00:56:57.08 place temptations in our mind-- of course, we can place things 00:56:57.11\00:57:00.55 in each other's minds just by talking. 00:57:00.58\00:57:02.88 So the devil can place things in our minds, but he can't always-- 00:57:02.92\00:57:06.52 he can't read our minds. 00:57:06.55\00:57:07.86 Only God knows men's hearts. 00:57:07.89\00:57:09.26 I think you find that in, oh, 1 Kings chapter chapter 8, like 00:57:09.29\00:57:14.83 verse 32 in the dedication prayer of Solomon, he says, 00:57:14.86\00:57:17.97 "God and God only knows the thoughts of men's hearts." 00:57:18.00\00:57:20.57 Jesus knew what was in man, the devil doesn't know what 00:57:20.60\00:57:23.41 you're thinking. 00:57:23.44\00:57:24.74 Jëan: Okay, we have another question. 00:57:24.77\00:57:26.24 Pastor Doug, what do you think about the Shroud of Turin? 00:57:26.27\00:57:29.01 Doug: Yeah, of course, it's not really a Bible question, but 00:57:29.04\00:57:31.08 it's a famous relic that you find in Italy that many people 00:57:31.11\00:57:35.08 come and they believe that it was the actual grave clothes 00:57:35.12\00:57:37.82 of Jesus. 00:57:37.85\00:57:39.19 And it was rather mysterious, how it was formed. 00:57:39.22\00:57:42.76 All the dating and the careful examination shows that it dates 00:57:42.79\00:57:47.03 for hundreds of years after Christ. 00:57:47.03\00:57:50.33 It may have been a crusader, somebody that was crucified. 00:57:50.37\00:57:53.77 And they were wrapped up because it does look like it's an 00:57:53.80\00:57:56.60 authentic piece, but it's not the grave clothes of Jesus. 00:57:56.64\00:58:00.68 It, just, the dating doesn't match. 00:58:00.71\00:58:02.61 Doug: Thank you, friends, for your question. 00:58:02.64\00:58:04.25 We'll study God's Word together again, God willing, 00:58:04.28\00:58:06.41 next week, God bless. 00:58:06.45\00:58:09.08 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:58:10.75\00:58:13.36 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:58:13.39\00:58:17.03 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:58:17.06\00:58:21.13 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:58:21.16\00:58:25.77
