¤¤¤ 00:00:00.80\00:00:03.06 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.20\00:00:05.73 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted. 00:00:05.83\00:00:09.64 And its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, should 00:00:09.67\00:00:14.31 always be studied carefully. 00:00:14.34\00:00:16.48 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.51\00:00:19.95 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:19.98\00:00:24.59 answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.62\00:00:28.39 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.42\00:00:31.36 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.39\00:00:34.10 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:34.13\00:00:39.00 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.03\00:00:44.21 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.24\00:00:48.08 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.01 Doug Batchelor: Hello friends. 00:00:50.05\00:00:51.35 You want to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.38\00:00:53.68 The human eye is one of the most incredible organs in all 00:00:53.72\00:00:56.92 of creation. 00:00:56.95\00:00:58.32 There are over one million nerves connecting each eye to 00:00:58.35\00:01:01.36 the brain, which is why 80% of all learning comes through 00:01:01.39\00:01:05.39 the eyes. 00:01:05.43\00:01:06.80 Yes, nearly half of the brain's cortex is dedicated to 00:01:06.83\00:01:10.40 processing visual information. 00:01:10.43\00:01:12.90 The eye is the fastest contracting muscle in the body 00:01:12.93\00:01:16.10 with the ability to focus on fifty different objects every 00:01:16.14\00:01:19.31 second and to distinguish over ten million colors and up to 00:01:19.34\00:01:23.28 five hundred shades of gray. 00:01:23.31\00:01:25.38 In fact, according to new research, the human eye is so 00:01:25.41\00:01:28.68 sensitive it is able to detect a single photon of light, which is 00:01:28.72\00:01:33.39 the smallest measurable unit of light. 00:01:33.42\00:01:36.26 Babies are born color blind but develop color perception within 00:01:36.29\00:01:39.33 a week. 00:01:39.36\00:01:40.70 Eyes stay the same size from birth, unlike the ears and the 00:01:40.73\00:01:44.07 nose that continue to grow through life. 00:01:44.10\00:01:46.94 No one in the world has an eye exactly like yours. 00:01:46.97\00:01:50.34 Though only one sixth of the eyeball is visible, the human 00:01:50.37\00:01:53.34 iris has 256 distinct features, while the fingerprints only 00:01:53.38\00:01:58.35 have 40. 00:01:58.38\00:01:59.68 Think about Pastor Ross. 00:01:59.71\00:02:01.12 That would mean that if someone wanted to call you and get the 00:02:01.15\00:02:03.25 right number with 256 digits, the chances of that are just 00:02:03.28\00:02:08.62 totally outrageous. 00:02:08.66\00:02:10.49 That's why they now do iris scans instead of fingerprints 00:02:10.53\00:02:14.66 because it's so much more unique. 00:02:14.73\00:02:16.67 Charles Darwin said in his book on the "Origin of Species" that 00:02:16.70\00:02:20.04 the idea of natural selection producing an eye was absurd in 00:02:20.07\00:02:24.77 the highest possible degree. 00:02:24.81\00:02:26.34 He said, "Even my theory doesn't explain how you could get a 00:02:26.37\00:02:29.88 human eye, how complex it would be, and how that would 00:02:29.91\00:02:32.78 ever develop." 00:02:32.81\00:02:34.52 But you know, according to the Bible, we haven't seen 00:02:34.55\00:02:36.85 anything yet. 00:02:36.89\00:02:38.22 Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 2, verse 9, "But it is written, 00:02:38.25\00:02:40.89 'The eye has not seen, nor the ear heard, nor has it entered 00:02:40.92\00:02:45.13 into the heart of man the things that God has prepared 00:02:45.16\00:02:48.13 for those that love Him.'" 00:02:48.16\00:02:49.90 The Bible has a lot to say about the eye. 00:02:49.93\00:02:51.37 Jëan Ross: That's right. 00:02:51.40\00:02:52.70 As a matter of fact, I'm looking at a verse 00:02:52.73\00:02:54.07 in Matthew chapter 6, verse 22. 00:02:54.10\00:02:55.64 The words of Jesus says, "Therefore if your eye is good, 00:02:55.67\00:02:58.17 the whole body will be full of light. 00:02:58.21\00:03:00.54 But if your eye is bad, the whole body will 00:03:00.58\00:03:02.44 be full of darkness." 00:03:02.48\00:03:04.15 So, what you look at influences what you become. 00:03:04.18\00:03:07.42 Doug: Absolutely. 00:03:07.45\00:03:08.75 You know, probably of the Gospel writers, John is the 00:03:08.78\00:03:12.89 most visual. 00:03:12.92\00:03:14.26 I went through John chapter 1 once and I found, I believe it 00:03:14.29\00:03:17.83 was 27 times he makes a reference to sight or light. 00:03:17.86\00:03:23.47 And everything from behold, and he saw, and the light, and just 00:03:23.50\00:03:27.94 he was a very visual apostle. 00:03:27.97\00:03:30.67 And you know when Paul tells us we haven't seen anything yet 00:03:30.71\00:03:33.84 compared to what we're going to see in heaven, we're going to 00:03:33.88\00:03:36.48 have to have special eyes because we read in the Bible 00:03:36.51\00:03:39.25 that, "The light of the moon will be like the light of the 00:03:39.28\00:03:41.68 sun now, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold brighter." 00:03:41.72\00:03:46.42 And people who have gone into heavenly vision, they say things 00:03:46.45\00:03:48.86 are so bright. 00:03:48.89\00:03:50.56 So, you've got a bright future friends if you've got Jesus. 00:03:50.59\00:03:53.40 And if you'd like to know more about that, I think we've got a 00:03:53.43\00:03:55.93 free book available. 00:03:55.96\00:03:57.27 Jëan: We do. 00:03:57.30\00:03:58.60 Our book this evening is called "Heaven: Is It For Real." 00:03:58.63\00:04:00.17 It's a free offer. 00:04:00.20\00:04:01.50 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:04:01.54\00:04:03.44 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:04:03.47\00:04:07.48 You can ask for offer number 189, or you can dial #250 with 00:04:07.51\00:04:11.45 your smartphone and say Bible answers live and then ask for 00:04:11.48\00:04:14.78 that book, "Heaven: Is It For Real?" 00:04:14.82\00:04:17.55 It's important for us to remember that heaven is a 00:04:17.59\00:04:19.09 real place. 00:04:19.12\00:04:20.46 Right now, there are angels, Jesus is interceding for us 00:04:20.49\00:04:23.32 there before the Father, and He is preparing our home for those 00:04:23.36\00:04:26.70 that love Him. 00:04:26.73\00:04:28.00 Doug: Amen. 00:04:28.03\00:04:29.36 Jëan: Well, with that, we're going to go to the phone lines, 00:04:29.40\00:04:30.97 but before we take your Bible questions, we want to start 00:04:31.00\00:04:33.67 with prayer. 00:04:33.70\00:04:35.00 So let's do that. 00:04:35.04\00:04:36.37 Dear Father, we are grateful once again that we do 00:04:36.40\00:04:37.71 have this time to do this Bible study. 00:04:37.74\00:04:39.37 Lord, we ask for your blessing as we open the scriptures. 00:04:39.41\00:04:42.14 Be with those who are listening wherever they might be and guide 00:04:42.18\00:04:44.28 us, Lord, into a clearer understanding of the Bible. 00:04:44.31\00:04:47.15 For we ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:47.18\00:04:49.58 Doug: Amen. 00:04:49.62\00:04:51.02 Jëan: All right, if you have a Bible question, let me mention 00:04:51.05\00:04:52.79 that number one more time. 00:04:52.82\00:04:54.12 It's 800-4637-297. 00:04:54.16\00:04:57.73 That's 800--God says 800-463-7297. 00:04:57.76\00:05:02.00 Our resource phone line is 800-835-6747. 00:05:02.03\00:05:06.30 We're going to be giving out a number of free resources that'll 00:05:06.33\00:05:09.54 help you in your study of God's Word. 00:05:09.57\00:05:11.14 So, you want to write down that number as well. 00:05:11.17\00:05:13.54 First caller tonight is Robert, listening in Washington. 00:05:13.58\00:05:15.81 Robert, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:15.84\00:05:17.38 Robert: Good evening. 00:05:17.41\00:05:18.88 Doug: Evening, Thank you for calling. 00:05:18.91\00:05:20.38 Robert: You're welcome. 00:05:20.42\00:05:21.85 I guess I called so early that I'm number one. 00:05:21.88\00:05:24.05 Doug: You are. 00:05:24.09\00:05:25.49 You got lined up early. 00:05:25.52\00:05:26.82 And your question tonight. 00:05:26.86\00:05:28.66 Robert: I maybe should have asked it differently. 00:05:28.69\00:05:31.46 It's regarding Malachi chapter 3, verse 1. 00:05:31.49\00:05:33.80 It talks about the Lord suddenly coming to His temple. 00:05:33.83\00:05:37.77 Is that referring to the temple in Jerusalem or a 00:05:37.80\00:05:40.70 different temple? 00:05:40.74\00:05:42.04 Doug: Well, I think that this prophecy is talking about, well, 00:05:42.07\00:05:45.34 you might say it's a dual prophecy. 00:05:45.37\00:05:48.01 When Jesus cleansed the sanctuary, 00:05:48.04\00:05:51.21 it says that that was a fulfillment of a prophecy 00:05:51.25\00:05:55.62 about, "The zeal of Thine house has eaten Me up." 00:05:55.65\00:05:58.79 And also in the Old Testament, they wept when Nehemiah's 00:05:58.82\00:06:02.66 temple, the temple of Ezra and Nehemiah, when it was rebuilt, 00:06:02.69\00:06:05.66 because it was so much smaller than Solomon's. 00:06:05.69\00:06:07.96 King Herod refurbished that temple, and it was much nicer, 00:06:08.00\00:06:12.57 but they said the glory of that temple would be even greater 00:06:12.60\00:06:15.54 than the glory of Solomon's because the Lord Himself would 00:06:15.57\00:06:18.54 come, and Jesus actually ministered in that temple. 00:06:18.57\00:06:21.31 But then the second fulfillment would be, you know, God's 00:06:21.34\00:06:24.75 church's body is a temple, and He came in person to His people. 00:06:24.78\00:06:29.72 He came to enter into them, so to speak. 00:06:29.75\00:06:32.89 But yeah, Jesus did literally enter the temple as a baby who 00:06:32.92\00:06:35.79 was brought in, and He was named and presented to the Lord. 00:06:35.82\00:06:40.50 And then of course He was teaching there several times 00:06:40.53\00:06:42.90 during His ministry up until a few days before His death. 00:06:42.93\00:06:46.67 Jëan: And this also got this application for the heavenly 00:06:46.70\00:06:48.77 sanctuary, you know, the earthly shadow of the heavenly sanctuary 00:06:48.80\00:06:51.57 and Jesus is ministering as a high priest. 00:06:51.61\00:06:54.24 And at the end of the 2300 days in Daniel 8:14, Christ began His 00:06:54.28\00:06:58.35 final work as high priest in the most holy place of the 00:06:58.38\00:07:01.82 heavenly sanctuary. 00:07:01.85\00:07:03.15 And at the time, in the early 1800s, there were believers who 00:07:03.18\00:07:06.19 were looking for the coming of Christ, and they didn't 00:07:06.22\00:07:09.92 understand fully that Christ wasn't coming back to the earth 00:07:09.96\00:07:12.56 as they had expected but was to move into this final high 00:07:12.59\00:07:15.83 priestly ministry in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:07:15.86\00:07:17.73 And I think this verse also alludes to that. 00:07:17.77\00:07:20.44 The Lord whom you seek will suddenly appear in His temple 00:07:20.47\00:07:23.27 and it's referring to connected with, "'Behold He's coming,' 00:07:23.30\00:07:25.97 saith the Lord of hosts." 00:07:26.01\00:07:27.31 So, sort of a prophetic aspect to that as well, both historical 00:07:27.34\00:07:31.11 and prophetic. 00:07:31.15\00:07:33.52 Doug: All right, hey, thank you so much, Robert. 00:07:33.55\00:07:36.22 And we do have a study guide that talks about the temple, 00:07:36.25\00:07:38.29 "God Drew the Plans." 00:07:38.32\00:07:39.65 Jëan: And to receive that, the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:07:39.69\00:07:43.76 That is our resource phone line. 00:07:43.79\00:07:45.36 You can answer the study guide. 00:07:45.39\00:07:46.93 It's called "God Drew the Plans." 00:07:46.96\00:07:48.50 It's about the sanctuary of the earthly, as well as its 00:07:48.53\00:07:51.90 heavenly application. 00:07:51.93\00:07:53.23 You'll be blessed by reading that. 00:07:53.27\00:07:55.24 Next caller that we have is Glenn in Ohio. 00:07:55.27\00:07:57.41 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:57.44\00:08:00.21 Glenn: Thank you pastors, for taking my call and good evening 00:08:00.24\00:08:02.88 from Bethel, Ohio. 00:08:02.91\00:08:04.71 Doug: Evening. 00:08:04.75\00:08:06.08 Glenn: My call in question this evening has to do with Calvary. 00:08:06.11\00:08:09.72 When Paul wrote his letter to the Hebrews, he put in there 00:08:09.75\00:08:12.79 that, "Without the shedding of blood, there's no remission 00:08:12.82\00:08:15.99 for sin." 00:08:16.02\00:08:17.53 And we know that the Messiah shed His precious blood and met 00:08:17.56\00:08:20.96 that criteria once and for all. 00:08:21.00\00:08:23.63 But my question is, is there any Bible support for such brutality 00:08:23.67\00:08:28.97 as took place at Calvary? 00:08:29.00\00:08:31.81 Doug: Well, if you're talking about support that it 00:08:31.84\00:08:34.18 happened, yeah. 00:08:34.21\00:08:36.08 And prophetically, you can read Isaiah 53, where it says, "We're 00:08:36.11\00:08:40.35 healed with his stripes. 00:08:40.38\00:08:41.85 He was bruised for our iniquities." 00:08:41.88\00:08:44.52 And the stripes mean whips. 00:08:44.55\00:08:46.59 So, of course, He was whipped. 00:08:46.62\00:08:48.62 And then, you know, you can read where it says they crucified Him 00:08:48.66\00:08:51.83 and we know plenty about crucifixion from history, what 00:08:51.86\00:08:54.00 was involved in that. 00:08:54.00\00:08:55.50 You can read where it says, "They broke the legs of the 00:08:55.53\00:08:58.87 thieves on the right and the left of Jesus," and the Christ 00:08:58.90\00:09:02.27 was dead at this point, but of course, they pierced His side 00:09:02.30\00:09:04.64 with a spear. 00:09:04.67\00:09:06.14 So, it was, yeah, it was excruciating. 00:09:06.17\00:09:09.34 Matter of fact, that's where the word comes from. 00:09:09.38\00:09:11.48 Excruse means the cross. 00:09:11.51\00:09:14.08 It's like it's connected with the word "crucifixion," 00:09:14.12\00:09:16.75 excruciating pain, so. 00:09:16.79\00:09:19.45 'Cause they couldn't find a word to describe how painful 00:09:19.49\00:09:24.33 crucifixion was, and it basically defined its own word. 00:09:24.36\00:09:27.73 Jëan: And you can also read in Psalms 22, verse 16, where it's 00:09:27.76\00:09:30.90 a messianic prophecy talking about Christ. 00:09:30.93\00:09:33.47 It says, "They pierced My hands and My feet." 00:09:33.50\00:09:37.04 That's a reference to Gentiles gathering around Christ as it 00:09:37.07\00:09:41.44 says there in Psalms 26. 00:09:41.48\00:09:43.48 You know, something else interesting about crucifixion, 00:09:43.51\00:09:45.88 they found some archaeological evidence to support the idea 00:09:45.91\00:09:48.38 that the Romans, when it came to crucifying people, they did some 00:09:48.42\00:09:52.49 research to try to make it as painful as they can. 00:09:52.52\00:09:55.02 They often drive nails right at the base of the hand into 00:09:55.06\00:09:58.96 the wrist. 00:09:58.99\00:10:00.33 And there was a series of nerves in particular that was running 00:10:00.36\00:10:02.96 right in that area. 00:10:03.00\00:10:04.33 They would drive those nails in to bringing terrible pain to the 00:10:04.37\00:10:07.47 people that would be crucified. 00:10:07.50\00:10:08.80 So, it was a horrible way to die. 00:10:08.84\00:10:11.21 Probably the worst that the Romans could come up with and 00:10:11.24\00:10:13.94 yet Jesus died bearing the sins of the whole world. 00:10:13.98\00:10:17.61 And of course, we do have a study guide that talks about 00:10:17.65\00:10:19.71 that sacrifice, "The High Cost of the Cross." 00:10:19.75\00:10:23.02 And of course, that's good news for salvation for those 00:10:23.05\00:10:26.39 who believe. 00:10:26.42\00:10:27.82 To receive that, just call and ask. 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.26 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:10:29.29\00:10:32.86 You can ask for that book. 00:10:32.89\00:10:34.20 It's called "The High Cost of the Cross," and we'll be happy 00:10:34.23\00:10:36.33 to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:10:36.36\00:10:38.27 You can dial #250 with your smartphone and ask for the book 00:10:38.30\00:10:42.64 that way as well. 00:10:42.67\00:10:44.11 Thank you, Glenn. 00:10:44.14\00:10:45.71 Next caller that we have is Uni from California. 00:10:45.74\00:10:48.28 Uni, welcome to the program. 00:10:48.31\00:10:50.65 Uni: Hello, Pastor Doug Batchelor and Jëan Ross. 00:10:50.68\00:10:54.45 Doug: Evening. 00:10:54.48\00:10:55.82 Uni: My question is about revelation about the three 00:10:55.85\00:10:59.39 uncleaned frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon and 00:10:59.42\00:11:03.22 so forth. 00:11:03.26\00:11:04.56 I was just wanting more of an explanation, and I was also 00:11:04.59\00:11:07.30 wondering if you guys could do a prayer request real 00:11:07.36\00:11:09.80 quick, please. 00:11:09.83\00:11:11.23 Doug: Well, I'll tell you what, why don't we do the question and 00:11:11.27\00:11:13.50 then you can tell us who you want us to pray for, okay? 00:11:13.54\00:11:16.64 Uni: Okay. 00:11:16.67\00:11:17.91 Well, my question is about like three uncleaned frogs, just like 00:11:17.94\00:11:20.98 more explanation on what that is. 00:11:21.01\00:11:23.18 Doug: Yes, and that's from, I believe, Revelation 16. 00:11:23.21\00:11:25.81 This is the sixth plague. 00:11:25.85\00:11:28.28 And you find that in Revelation chapter 16, and you can start 00:11:28.32\00:11:31.42 with verse 12, "And the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the 00:11:31.45\00:11:35.92 great river Euphrates, and the water was dried up, so that the 00:11:35.96\00:11:39.23 way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 00:11:39.26\00:11:41.66 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the 00:11:41.70\00:11:45.10 mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of 00:11:45.13\00:11:47.94 the mouth of the false prophet. 00:11:47.97\00:11:49.77 For they are the spirits of demons, performing signs, that 00:11:49.80\00:11:53.58 go out to the kings of the earth and the whole world, that gather 00:11:53.61\00:11:56.88 them to the battle of the great day of God Almighty." 00:11:56.91\00:11:59.61 It's one of the few places here where you then see red letter in 00:11:59.65\00:12:02.78 the text and Jesus speaks saying, "Behold, I'm coming as 00:12:02.82\00:12:05.45 a thief." 00:12:05.49\00:12:06.79 So, what are these frogs? 00:12:06.82\00:12:08.29 Well, a lot of the plagues that you see in Revelation are 00:12:08.32\00:12:13.26 similar to plagues that you saw on Ancient Egypt. 00:12:13.29\00:12:16.46 One of the plagues in ancient Egypt was a plague of frogs. 00:12:16.50\00:12:19.33 Egyptians actually worship the frogs. 00:12:19.37\00:12:21.37 Frogs are unclean animals. 00:12:21.40\00:12:23.37 A frog doesn't bite, and it doesn't claw, but it has 00:12:23.41\00:12:26.47 a tongue. 00:12:26.51\00:12:27.81 And so, it says that they're deceiving the kings of the earth 00:12:27.84\00:12:31.35 before a battle and their spirits performing miracles. 00:12:31.38\00:12:35.35 Before a great battle in the days of King Saul, he went, and 00:12:35.38\00:12:41.16 it was a battle between Israel and the Philistines, he went to 00:12:41.19\00:12:43.86 see a witch and these unclean spirits conjured up the image of 00:12:43.89\00:12:48.66 Samuel the prophet and it deceived him. 00:12:48.70\00:12:52.47 And so, it's telling us in the last days that evil spirits are 00:12:52.50\00:12:55.70 going to manipulate world leaders and tell them--you can 00:12:55.74\00:13:00.48 read also where Ahab, his prophets, gave him lying 00:13:00.51\00:13:04.81 information before he was killed in battle just like Saul. 00:13:04.85\00:13:08.48 So, it's telling us about these stories in the Old Testament and 00:13:08.52\00:13:11.55 saying evil spirits are going to manipulate world leaders before 00:13:11.59\00:13:15.16 this final battle against God's people. 00:13:15.19\00:13:17.23 That's a--that's kind of a quick overview. 00:13:17.26\00:13:19.29 Pastor Ross might have more detail on that. 00:13:19.33\00:13:21.93 Jëan: Just maybe something about the number three. 00:13:21.96\00:13:23.87 It says, "Three unclean spirits." 00:13:23.90\00:13:25.73 It's interesting you have almost a counterfeit trinity in 00:13:25.77\00:13:28.14 this verse. 00:13:28.17\00:13:29.50 You have the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. 00:13:29.54\00:13:32.04 Just like you have the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 00:13:32.07\00:13:34.58 here you have a counterfeit. 00:13:34.61\00:13:35.94 The dragon symbolizing Satan, the beast's power and apostate 00:13:35.98\00:13:39.08 religious power, and the false prophet through spiritualism and 00:13:39.11\00:13:43.65 working science. 00:13:43.69\00:13:44.99 So, the whole world is galvanized or are united, 00:13:45.02\00:13:48.22 preparing for this final showdown between good and evil 00:13:48.26\00:13:51.89 through these counterfeit miracles that are taking place 00:13:51.93\00:13:55.23 in these powers. 00:13:55.26\00:13:56.56 So, yeah. 00:13:56.60\00:13:57.83 It's describing the event that's yet to take place in the future, 00:13:57.87\00:14:00.37 but we can see the stage being set even today, I think which 00:14:00.40\00:14:02.74 is interesting. 00:14:02.77\00:14:04.07 Spiritualism and a lot of discussion about yeah, signs and 00:14:04.11\00:14:09.08 wonders and things happening in the world around us, yeah. 00:14:09.11\00:14:13.21 Doug: Uni, you said that there was a prayer request. 00:14:13.25\00:14:15.58 I prefer you don't mention any particular name of a person, but 00:14:15.62\00:14:18.79 if you have a prayer request, you want us to pray about. 00:14:18.82\00:14:22.62 Uni: Could I say her first name? 00:14:22.66\00:14:24.16 Doug: Sure. 00:14:24.19\00:14:25.96 Uni: Okay, well this prayer request is for someone that I 00:14:25.99\00:14:29.70 used to know all the way back to the elementary, I believe. 00:14:29.73\00:14:33.77 And you know, there's always a certain way to do things. 00:14:33.80\00:14:38.61 And if you do something that you can make a person not want to, 00:14:38.64\00:14:43.41 you know, receive Christ or anything of that nature. 00:14:43.45\00:14:46.68 So, I just wanted to come and call and ask you two if you guys 00:14:46.72\00:14:49.95 could do a prayer request because I feel like it's my 00:14:49.98\00:14:53.69 fault that she potentially missed out on eternity. 00:14:53.72\00:14:57.83 So--but I believe that with God, all things are possible, 00:14:57.86\00:15:00.76 and that God has the power to change realities. 00:15:00.80\00:15:03.70 So, I would just like to pray, or I would like to tell you guys 00:15:03.73\00:15:06.43 to pray for this specific somebody 00:15:06.47\00:15:08.47 which is her name is Anahi. 00:15:08.50\00:15:10.87 Doug: We will. 00:15:10.91\00:15:12.57 I tell you what, let me have a prayer right now, okay? 00:15:12.61\00:15:16.18 Loving Lord, we just want to lift before You, Anahi, 00:15:16.21\00:15:18.38 that Uni was talking about. 00:15:18.41\00:15:20.82 That he's afraid that through his influence that she may have 00:15:20.85\00:15:24.25 been turned away from You. 00:15:24.29\00:15:26.45 We pray that through the influence of others that You 00:15:26.49\00:15:28.86 will speak to her heart through circumstances and that she can 00:15:28.89\00:15:32.09 be brought back again. 00:15:32.13\00:15:33.63 And we thank You and pray this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:15:33.66\00:15:37.07 Jëan: Amen. 00:15:37.10\00:15:38.40 Doug: Well, thank you for your question, Uni. 00:15:38.43\00:15:40.37 Jëan: Jorge in Virginia is calling. 00:15:40.40\00:15:42.40 Welcome to the program, Jorge. 00:15:42.44\00:15:43.74 You're on the air. 00:15:43.77\00:15:45.07 Jorge: Hey, how are you Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross? 00:15:45.11\00:15:48.01 How's everything going with you guys? 00:15:48.04\00:15:49.88 Doug: Great. 00:15:49.91\00:15:51.25 Thank you for calling and your question. 00:15:51.28\00:15:52.91 Jorge: I'm a huge fan of "Pinnacle of Prophecy" and you 00:15:52.95\00:15:58.65 know, all the shows that you've had recently regarding, you 00:15:58.69\00:16:01.36 know, the prophecy of that time. 00:16:01.39\00:16:03.09 Doug: Praise the Lord, yeah. 00:16:03.12\00:16:05.89 You saw our meetings from New York recently, Prophecy Odyssey? 00:16:05.93\00:16:09.26 Jorge: Yes, I'm actually rewatching it as we speak all 00:16:09.30\00:16:13.90 over again. 00:16:13.94\00:16:15.27 So, I'm glad that, you know, that's a resource that you and 00:16:15.30\00:16:18.81 Amazing Facts make that possible through YouTube 00:16:18.84\00:16:21.18 and obviously your website. 00:16:21.21\00:16:22.74 So, thank you for that. 00:16:22.78\00:16:24.18 Doug: Well, thank you, praise the Lord. 00:16:24.21\00:16:25.51 And your question tonight. 00:16:25.55\00:16:28.05 Jorge: My question is, what does the Bible say about women's 00:16:28.08\00:16:34.32 ordination, and how do we reconcile that with how that's 00:16:34.36\00:16:40.06 coming to fruition in a lot of the churches nowadays. 00:16:40.10\00:16:43.63 Doug: Yeah, yeah, and you know, it's like Esther said, "If I 00:16:43.67\00:16:47.14 perish, I perish." 00:16:47.17\00:16:48.47 But you know, the Bible truth is a Bible truth. 00:16:48.50\00:16:50.44 You're asking, what does the Bible say? 00:16:50.47\00:16:52.84 And someone came up to me once and said, "Doug, what do I have 00:16:52.87\00:16:55.48 to do to get you to change your opinion on women's ordination." 00:16:55.51\00:16:58.21 I said, "Well, you have to change the Bible," because I'd 00:16:58.25\00:17:01.05 be happy to believe either way, except there's just no example. 00:17:01.08\00:17:04.92 Now, what we're talking about friends, is women being ordained 00:17:04.95\00:17:08.52 as pastors. 00:17:08.56\00:17:10.09 And there's just no precedent in the Bible. 00:17:10.13\00:17:12.29 Some people say, "Well, that was cultural," but I think you have 00:17:12.33\00:17:15.70 to be very careful about just saying that, you know, 00:17:15.73\00:17:18.40 everything in the Bible is cultural. 00:17:18.43\00:17:20.90 It's--I think it's pretty clear by the example going all the way 00:17:20.94\00:17:24.81 back to the Garden of Eden to--through New Testament 00:17:24.84\00:17:29.31 history, that men were called to be the servant leaders in 00:17:29.34\00:17:33.05 families, the husband and the church is an extension of that. 00:17:33.08\00:17:39.29 The Bible says that there's no example of a woman being 00:17:39.32\00:17:43.49 ordained as a pastor, priest, elder. 00:17:43.53\00:17:46.53 No woman offered sacrifice. 00:17:46.56\00:17:47.96 It was only the men that are recorded as doing this. 00:17:48.00\00:17:51.23 Jesus, there's a reason that he chose twelve men. 00:17:51.27\00:17:54.04 A lot of women were disciples, but only the men were apostles. 00:17:54.07\00:17:57.41 So, I would think there's a distinction of roles. 00:17:57.44\00:18:01.81 Clearly, the physiology of men and women and even the way their 00:18:01.84\00:18:05.31 brains work is different. 00:18:05.35\00:18:07.38 And for whatever reason, you know, God has designed that that 00:18:07.42\00:18:12.32 way and I just figured well we safer sticking with the Word. 00:18:12.35\00:18:16.12 Now we have a book, I think, that talks about women 00:18:16.16\00:18:18.33 in ministry. 00:18:18.36\00:18:19.63 Jëan: Yeah, as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, all are called to 00:18:19.66\00:18:21.36 be disciple makers. 00:18:21.40\00:18:23.06 That's the part of the Great Commission. 00:18:23.10\00:18:24.70 If you're a believing in Christ, then you have a work to do. 00:18:24.73\00:18:26.90 And so, yes, there is an important work for both men and 00:18:26.94\00:18:29.74 women to do in the church, as Pastor Doug mentioned. 00:18:29.77\00:18:31.74 But there are also roles given in scripture. 00:18:31.77\00:18:34.58 And we do have a book. 00:18:34.61\00:18:35.94 It's called "Women in Ministry." 00:18:35.98\00:18:37.51 And it goes a lot more detail, talking about how we as 00:18:37.55\00:18:40.95 individuals can be involved in ministry and sharing our faith. 00:18:40.98\00:18:44.99 To receive that, the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:18:45.02\00:18:49.02 That is our resource phone line. 00:18:49.06\00:18:50.93 Just call and ask for the book. 00:18:50.96\00:18:52.29 It's called "Women in Ministry." 00:18:52.33\00:18:53.63 You can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:18:53.66\00:18:56.70 Say, "Bible Answers Live," and then ask for the book by name. 00:18:56.73\00:19:00.40 Next caller that we have is Rebeka in Ohio. 00:19:00.44\00:19:02.47 Rebeka, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:19:02.50\00:19:06.47 Rebeka: Hello, thank you, yes. 00:19:06.51\00:19:08.08 My question is, so I know that in order to be saved, you have 00:19:08.11\00:19:12.45 to have faith in Jesus and by His grace. 00:19:12.48\00:19:15.95 But I also know that if you're not living in the Lord or if you 00:19:15.98\00:19:19.22 are sinning, you're not saved because you--because yeah. 00:19:19.25\00:19:24.66 Just--but I've been kind of struggling recently because 00:19:24.69\00:19:28.46 sometimes I'm not really sure if I'm actually having faith in 00:19:28.50\00:19:31.57 Jesus or if I'm having faith in my works because I find myself 00:19:31.60\00:19:35.00 wondering if I'm really saved, if I'm following with the Lord 00:19:35.04\00:19:37.54 because I find myself sinning. 00:19:37.57\00:19:39.57 And does that make sense? 00:19:39.61\00:19:40.84 Doug: Yes, it's a big question that everyone asks every day. 00:19:40.88\00:19:44.45 So, yeah. 00:19:44.48\00:19:45.78 I actually was talking about this yesterday, and the--there's 00:19:45.81\00:19:50.69 a, you know, there's sort of an international debate that's gone 00:19:50.72\00:19:56.59 on for about two thousand years between--among Christians about 00:19:56.62\00:20:01.10 assurance of salvation. 00:20:01.13\00:20:02.43 How can you have assurance of salvation without 00:20:02.46\00:20:04.80 being perfectionistic? 00:20:04.83\00:20:06.63 How can you believe in grace without presuming on grace and 00:20:06.67\00:20:10.84 avoid being a legalist, but yet still believe in obedience? 00:20:10.87\00:20:14.68 And there's that balance. 00:20:14.71\00:20:16.64 So, once you come to Jesus and you accept him, Rebeka, and you 00:20:16.68\00:20:20.05 say, "Lord, I'm surrendering my life to you. 00:20:20.08\00:20:22.25 I'm weak, but I want to learn to follow you." 00:20:22.28\00:20:24.85 As soon as you come to Him, He will forgive all your past sins. 00:20:24.89\00:20:27.99 It's called justification. 00:20:28.02\00:20:29.32 You come just like you are. 00:20:29.36\00:20:31.26 Then He says, "I'm going to give you power to learn to live a 00:20:31.29\00:20:34.46 new life." 00:20:34.46\00:20:35.76 That learning process, you're going to color outside the lines 00:20:35.80\00:20:39.00 and make a lot of mistakes like every kid in school when 00:20:39.03\00:20:41.97 they're learning. 00:20:42.00\00:20:43.34 Don't get discouraged. 00:20:43.37\00:20:45.11 Jesus does not let go of you. 00:20:45.14\00:20:47.44 Don't worry that after you make a mistake, God is going to wait 00:20:47.48\00:20:50.51 for you to make a mistake, and then He's going to take your 00:20:50.55\00:20:52.31 life and you'll die lost. 00:20:52.35\00:20:54.15 Know that He's going to finish the work He began in you, if you 00:20:54.18\00:20:57.99 continue to walk with Him. 00:20:58.02\00:20:59.72 So, if you make a mistake, repent and ask God to give you 00:20:59.75\00:21:03.99 strength to turn away from whatever that is. 00:21:04.03\00:21:07.13 A believer should not have--they should not be addicted to sin. 00:21:07.20\00:21:11.40 In other words, there should be no sin that has dominion over 00:21:11.43\00:21:14.20 your life. 00:21:14.24\00:21:15.84 The Lord wants to save you from your sins. 00:21:15.87\00:21:18.64 And so, you want to surrender your heart to Him, ask 00:21:18.67\00:21:22.28 for victory. 00:21:22.31\00:21:23.65 If you stumble and fall, don't get discouraged, get back up and 00:21:23.68\00:21:26.48 know that He loves you. 00:21:26.51\00:21:27.85 He's adopted you as His child. 00:21:27.88\00:21:29.88 And that He is the author and the finisher of your faith. 00:21:29.92\00:21:33.59 He'll complete what he's begun. 00:21:33.62\00:21:35.59 So, you know, I've got a book that we can send you. 00:21:35.62\00:21:38.93 I forget sometimes that I wrote a book. 00:21:38.96\00:21:41.16 It's called "Assurance" and how you can have assurance. 00:21:41.20\00:21:44.63 And so, if you call the amazing facts number, ask for Pastor 00:21:44.67\00:21:47.14 Doug's booklet on assurance, I think it will encourage you. 00:21:47.17\00:21:50.91 Jëan: The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:21:50.94\00:21:54.71 The book is called "Assurance: Justification Made Simple." 00:21:54.74\00:21:58.55 So, call and ask. 00:21:58.58\00:21:59.91 You can dial #250 on your smartphone, say, "Bible answers 00:21:59.95\00:22:03.85 live," and you'll be able to receive a digital download that 00:22:03.89\00:22:06.65 way as well. 00:22:06.69\00:22:08.02 Just again, the book is called "Assurance: Justification Made 00:22:08.06\00:22:10.83 Simple," and I hope anyone listening, you're all welcome to 00:22:10.86\00:22:13.33 call and get more information. 00:22:13.36\00:22:15.93 Next caller that we have is Mary in Oregon. 00:22:15.96\00:22:18.10 Mary, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:22:18.13\00:22:21.87 Mary: Thank you for taking my call. 00:22:21.90\00:22:23.51 Good evening. 00:22:23.54\00:22:24.84 And I want to also thank you for all that you do for Jesus. 00:22:24.87\00:22:29.08 Doug: Oh, it's a privilege. 00:22:29.11\00:22:30.45 Thank you. 00:22:30.48\00:22:31.78 Mary: Yeah, thank you. 00:22:31.81\00:22:33.82 My question is, Mary Magdalene, is she the same Mary as 00:22:33.85\00:22:39.42 Mary of Bethany? 00:22:39.45\00:22:41.49 Doug: I think so. 00:22:41.52\00:22:43.12 And there's Bible reasons for that. 00:22:43.16\00:22:45.19 Now, I wrote a book, one of my favorite Bible characters is 00:22:45.23\00:22:48.53 Mary Magdalene, and I just see her always at Jesus's feet. 00:22:48.56\00:22:52.70 She seems to be among his most devoted followers. 00:22:52.73\00:22:56.07 And you see, she's the first one he reveals himself to following 00:22:56.10\00:22:59.64 the resurrection. 00:22:59.67\00:23:01.14 Why do I believe that they're same person? 00:23:01.18\00:23:03.24 Well, you see Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalene frequently at 00:23:03.28\00:23:06.61 Jesus's feet. 00:23:06.65\00:23:08.12 It tells us that both of them have reputations for being, you 00:23:08.15\00:23:11.22 know, women that were sinners. 00:23:11.25\00:23:13.19 It never specifically says that Mary Magdalene 00:23:13.22\00:23:16.49 or Mary of Bethany were prostitutes, but it does imply 00:23:16.52\00:23:20.66 that they had that kind of reputation. 00:23:20.70\00:23:24.27 And they had means. 00:23:24.30\00:23:27.17 You know, they give this very expensive gift to Jesus, Mary of 00:23:27.20\00:23:31.71 Bethany does. 00:23:31.74\00:23:33.07 Evidently, Mary of Bethany, she worked in Magdala, which is like 00:23:33.11\00:23:38.35 the Las Vegas of Galilee. 00:23:38.38\00:23:40.78 That's where the Roman soldiers would have their recreation. 00:23:40.82\00:23:44.95 And--but she had a brother and sister in Bethany. 00:23:44.99\00:23:47.99 So, she sometimes called Mary of Magdala or Mary Magdalene. 00:23:48.02\00:23:51.39 I think she may have also been the woman that was caught in 00:23:51.43\00:23:53.76 adultery in John chapter 8, that's thrown down at 00:23:53.80\00:23:56.77 Jesus's feet. 00:23:56.80\00:23:58.13 So--and of course they have the same name. 00:23:58.17\00:24:00.04 And the other thing is their names are never 00:24:00.07\00:24:03.07 mentioned together. 00:24:03.10\00:24:05.17 Now, there's one place where it tells about the woman who 00:24:05.21\00:24:08.04 anointed Jesus's feet, and it says it's Mary of Bethany. 00:24:08.08\00:24:10.68 Another Gospel says a certain woman, and it could be she was 00:24:10.71\00:24:14.12 still alive then and they didn't want to identify her because it 00:24:14.15\00:24:16.89 was an embarrassing situation. 00:24:16.92\00:24:19.35 So, I think there's a lot of evidence that it's the 00:24:19.39\00:24:22.29 same person. 00:24:22.32\00:24:24.29 Jëan: All right, do we have a book on that Pastor Doug? 00:24:24.33\00:24:26.06 Doug: We do. 00:24:26.09\00:24:27.40 It's not one we typically give away. 00:24:27.40\00:24:28.73 It's called, "At Jesus' Feet," and it's a full-size book that 00:24:28.76\00:24:32.27 you can get through Amazing Facts. 00:24:32.30\00:24:33.80 We do have a book on Mary the mother of Jesus if you want a 00:24:33.84\00:24:36.67 Mary book, but the book on Mary Magdalene is called "At Jesus' 00:24:36.71\00:24:40.58 Feet," the Gospel according to Mary Magdalene. 00:24:40.61\00:24:43.28 That's a full size. 00:24:43.31\00:24:44.61 Jëan: Yeah, go to the Amazing Facts website for 00:24:44.65\00:24:46.31 more information. 00:24:46.35\00:24:47.65 All right, thank you. 00:24:47.68\00:24:49.02 Next one we have is Grace in California. 00:24:49.05\00:24:50.35 Grace, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:24:50.39\00:24:53.12 Grace: Hi, good evening. 00:24:53.15\00:24:54.62 Doug: Hi, how are you doing? 00:24:54.66\00:24:56.32 Grace: My question is about, like, after you eat your lunch 00:24:56.36\00:25:01.20 or dinner during the Sabbath, is it a sin to wash your plate? 00:25:01.23\00:25:05.77 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:25:05.80\00:25:07.24 Not a practical question. 00:25:07.27\00:25:08.57 You know, in Sabbath keeping, it says that we should try to get 00:25:08.60\00:25:11.54 all of our practical work out of the way and enjoy that day as a 00:25:11.57\00:25:14.84 day of rest. 00:25:14.88\00:25:16.34 What about doing dishes after the meal? 00:25:16.38\00:25:19.08 Well, you know, I think that you should try and leave undone 00:25:19.11\00:25:22.22 what you can leave undone. 00:25:22.25\00:25:24.15 That there are--I became a Christian studying under some 00:25:24.19\00:25:29.26 people that were missionaries in Burma. 00:25:29.29\00:25:32.13 And they said that, and these were very dedicated missionary 00:25:32.16\00:25:35.26 Sabbath keepers, and they said after on Sabbath after meals, 00:25:35.30\00:25:38.13 they said, we had to clean up because it's just ants 00:25:38.17\00:25:40.74 everywhere, monkeys would come through the windows and take 00:25:40.77\00:25:43.34 your food. 00:25:43.37\00:25:44.71 And he said, "You know, just gotta understand. 00:25:44.74\00:25:46.04 You gotta clean up or it's going to be a mess." 00:25:46.07\00:25:48.41 Sometimes I'll straighten things out. 00:25:48.44\00:25:49.91 You've got company in the house, angels are there, and you want 00:25:49.94\00:25:52.38 things to look right and be sanitary. 00:25:52.41\00:25:54.95 So, but, you know, there may be cases where you've got a stack 00:25:54.98\00:25:58.35 of dishes and you think, "Okay, it's not a problem. 00:25:58.39\00:26:00.36 I'm going to go to another room. 00:26:00.39\00:26:01.69 We'll take care of it after Sabbath." 00:26:01.72\00:26:03.36 So, it just, you know, it depends on the practical 00:26:03.39\00:26:06.03 circumstances, I think. 00:26:06.06\00:26:08.86 Jëan: All right, thank you. 00:26:08.90\00:26:10.20 Doug: Thanks for your question. 00:26:10.23\00:26:11.53 And we do have a book on keeping the Sabbath holy. 00:26:11.57\00:26:13.54 It's a book we can share and if you call Amazing Facts, 00:26:13.57\00:26:17.24 give some practical tips on how do you keep the Sabbath. 00:26:17.27\00:26:19.91 Jëan: The number for that is 800-835-6747. 00:26:19.94\00:26:23.11 You can ask for the book on "How to Keep the Sabbath Holy." 00:26:23.14\00:26:25.98 Just some practical information. 00:26:26.01\00:26:27.68 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and just ask for the 00:26:27.72\00:26:32.02 book by name. 00:26:32.05\00:26:33.36 Doug: Yeah. 00:26:33.39\00:26:34.72 So, listening friends, in just a few minutes, we're going to be 00:26:34.76\00:26:36.79 taking our halftime break that gives you a chance to check out 00:26:36.83\00:26:40.70 our website. 00:26:40.73\00:26:42.03 Now, let me tell you, will return shortly. 00:27:15.33\00:27:17.43 ¤¤¤ 00:27:17.97\00:27:25.71 Lindsay: I was raised in Christian schools. 00:27:25.74\00:27:28.58 My grandparents were missionaries in Africa and the 00:27:28.61\00:27:31.58 Middle East. 00:27:31.61\00:27:32.95 I got baptized by my grandfather in the church. 00:27:32.98\00:27:35.22 That's all I knew. 00:27:35.25\00:27:36.58 That's what I grew up with. 00:27:36.62\00:27:37.92 When I was older and I was in high school, we moved 00:27:37.95\00:27:40.32 to California. 00:27:40.36\00:27:41.66 I became an age where I didn't have to go to church if I didn't 00:27:41.69\00:27:44.19 want to go to church, and so I didn't. 00:27:44.23\00:27:46.26 I started hanging out with the wrong people and would go 00:27:46.29\00:27:49.10 drinking and would go partying and would go to the clubs and 00:27:49.13\00:27:52.07 you have to surround yourself with like-minded people, 00:27:52.10\00:27:54.27 otherwise you don't have people to keep you in check and you 00:27:54.30\00:27:57.27 will drift away and I a hundred percent did. 00:27:57.31\00:28:00.28 I was probably around 21. 00:28:00.31\00:28:02.74 I met my husband. 00:28:02.78\00:28:04.18 I had always held religion in my heart, but I wasn't 00:28:04.21\00:28:07.75 practicing it. 00:28:07.78\00:28:09.65 I'd always told him that if we had kids, I wanted to be able to 00:28:09.68\00:28:12.32 raise them in the church, but we had moved to Nevada when our 00:28:12.35\00:28:17.49 first son was a year old and living outside of Sin City, 00:28:17.53\00:28:20.70 there's not a ton of options. 00:28:20.73\00:28:23.30 And then COVID hit, and I just knew something was calling me to 00:28:23.33\00:28:27.77 come back. 00:28:27.80\00:28:29.84 A couple months later, my parents told me about 00:28:29.87\00:28:32.21 Pastor Doug. 00:28:32.24\00:28:33.58 I connected with Pastor Doug because he had a past similar 00:28:33.61\00:28:35.71 to mine. 00:28:35.74\00:28:37.05 He was raised in the church loosely, but he had a spot in 00:28:37.08\00:28:39.58 between where he lived a life that was not within the church. 00:28:39.61\00:28:43.95 So, I thought, "Well, I want to hear what he has to say." 00:28:43.99\00:28:46.52 During the summer, I think is when "Revelation Now" came out. 00:28:46.55\00:28:49.16 I made sure that I tuned in every night. 00:28:49.19\00:28:51.23 Pastor Doug just helped me understand that Revelation is 00:28:51.26\00:28:55.60 not as scary if you have a connection with God because he's 00:28:55.63\00:29:00.10 going to make sure that you're not scared and that you're 00:29:00.14\00:29:02.50 taking care of. 00:29:02.54\00:29:04.67 My husband would come in and out of the room and check in and see 00:29:04.71\00:29:07.91 what was going on, and I remember one night we got in an 00:29:07.94\00:29:09.98 argument about why I was watching "Revelation Now" and I 00:29:10.01\00:29:14.52 needed to give him some scientific proof that God 00:29:14.55\00:29:16.58 was real. 00:29:16.62\00:29:17.95 And I was like, "I can't show you proof, 00:29:17.99\00:29:19.29 it's just in my heart. 00:29:19.32\00:29:20.66 Why don't you watch some of these with me and just see?" 00:29:20.69\00:29:22.26 So, he finally started sitting down watching with me. 00:29:22.29\00:29:24.96 Then we went on Amazing facts and we found the 27 study guides 00:29:24.99\00:29:28.40 and then after we were done, I was like, "I want to get 00:29:28.43\00:29:30.93 baptized again." 00:29:30.97\00:29:32.30 And I remember him saying, "Me too." 00:29:32.33\00:29:36.60 male announcer: Thank anyway. 00:31:51.57\00:31:54.71 We don't have all the answers. 00:31:54.74\00:31:56.04 The number is 800--God says that's 800-463-7297. 00:31:56.08\00:32:02.02 My name is Doug Batchelor. 00:32:02.05\00:32:03.65 Jëan: My name is Jëan Ross and we've got Brittany standing by. 00:32:03.69\00:32:07.02 Brittany from California. 00:32:07.06\00:32:08.56 Welcome to the program. 00:32:08.59\00:32:10.29 Brittany: Yeah, my question is, how is a Christian supposed to 00:32:10.33\00:32:15.06 defend their faith when the world seems like it's 00:32:15.10\00:32:18.33 attacking them? 00:32:18.37\00:32:19.67 Doug: Prayerfully and boldly. 00:32:19.70\00:32:21.94 You know, it's easy to be intimidated, and I think we've 00:32:21.97\00:32:24.67 all felt that before, when you're surrounded by people that 00:32:24.71\00:32:27.71 are laughing at or mocking that you're a Christian, that you 00:32:27.74\00:32:31.31 would believe that God created the world as opposed 00:32:31.35\00:32:33.78 to evolution. 00:32:33.82\00:32:35.15 Then they think that you're, you know, you're uneducated, you're 00:32:35.18\00:32:38.95 unsophisticated, and the media tends to mock Christians. 00:32:38.99\00:32:44.16 But Jesus said, "Look, they mocked me," and Paul said, "The 00:32:44.19\00:32:48.63 cross is foolishness to the world." 00:32:48.66\00:32:51.00 Don't be discouraged. 00:32:51.03\00:32:52.33 Paul often said that Christians should pray for boldness. 00:32:52.37\00:32:55.67 You can read in Acts chapter 4, the disciples prayed that God 00:32:55.70\00:32:59.34 would give them boldness. 00:32:59.37\00:33:00.78 And it says, "They were filled with the Spirit, and they spoke 00:33:00.81\00:33:02.68 the Word with boldness." 00:33:02.71\00:33:04.48 And in the armor of God you find in Ephesians chapter 6, Paul 00:33:04.51\00:33:08.12 said, "And pray for me that I might be bold." 00:33:08.15\00:33:10.52 He was, you know, in prison for his faith, but he did not want 00:33:10.55\00:33:12.75 to be intimidated to be silent. 00:33:12.79\00:33:15.59 And so, you'd be surprised that sometimes we think that the 00:33:15.62\00:33:19.23 devil wants us to think people don't want to hear. 00:33:19.26\00:33:21.80 There are people that do want to hear. 00:33:21.83\00:33:24.30 Jesus said, "The harvest is great, the laborers are few." 00:33:24.33\00:33:27.77 Hidden out there in the field, there's a lot of people that 00:33:27.80\00:33:31.21 want to know the truth. 00:33:31.24\00:33:32.54 They want to know the Lord, they're looking for purpose. 00:33:32.57\00:33:34.58 So, don't be discouraged. 00:33:34.61\00:33:37.18 Jëan: That's right. 00:33:37.21\00:33:38.55 We want to be faithful in every area that we have, beginning 00:33:38.58\00:33:40.15 with those closest to us and then as that circle gets wider, 00:33:40.18\00:33:43.79 we want to be the biggest influence that we can for good. 00:33:43.82\00:33:46.65 Doug: Amen. 00:33:46.69\00:33:47.99 Jëan: Alright, thank you, Brittany. 00:33:48.02\00:33:49.32 We've got James in Oregon. 00:33:49.36\00:33:50.69 James, welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:33:50.73\00:33:52.03 James: Okay, thank you. 00:33:52.06\00:33:53.70 Nice to be talking with you Doug Batchelor, pastor. 00:33:53.73\00:33:56.33 Doug: Pleasure. 00:33:56.36\00:33:57.70 James: My question is, it's about burial in the Bible and 00:33:57.73\00:34:04.54 creation in today's time. 00:34:04.57\00:34:07.31 Cremation in today's time, is it acceptable for someone to be 00:34:07.34\00:34:14.25 cremated rather than buried? 00:34:14.28\00:34:16.99 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:34:17.02\00:34:18.32 By the way, I have, you know, whenever we answer these 00:34:18.35\00:34:20.62 questions, I usually take two or three minutes, we do our best to 00:34:20.66\00:34:24.79 get as many as we can, so you can't be comprehensive. 00:34:24.83\00:34:28.00 I do have a YouTube and it's on cremation. 00:34:28.03\00:34:32.03 If you just type in Doug Batchelor, or you go to YouTube, 00:34:32.07\00:34:34.87 you type in Doug Bachelor Cremation. 00:34:34.90\00:34:36.40 I do a little longer study on it there. 00:34:36.44\00:34:39.11 But I'll give you a quick answer. 00:34:39.14\00:34:40.88 First of all, this is not a salvation issue, so there may be 00:34:40.91\00:34:44.11 people who have been cremated as opposed to burial, and that 00:34:44.15\00:34:46.51 doesn't mean they're going to lose their salvation, because 00:34:46.55\00:34:49.25 most of the people in the Bible were buried. 00:34:49.28\00:34:51.99 The patriarchs like David, Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob, 00:34:52.02\00:34:57.53 Joseph says they were buried. 00:34:57.56\00:34:59.76 But a lot of Christians were martyred. 00:34:59.79\00:35:01.56 They were burnt at the stake, or they were, you know, burnt for 00:35:01.60\00:35:04.90 their faith, or they were thrown to the overboard and eaten by 00:35:04.93\00:35:09.34 fish or whatever. 00:35:09.37\00:35:10.71 And so, the idea that God can't resurrect you if you're cremated 00:35:10.74\00:35:14.48 is absurd and it's not a problem for the Lord. 00:35:14.51\00:35:17.15 He can make man from the dust, and He can resurrect him from 00:35:17.18\00:35:20.62 his bones. 00:35:20.65\00:35:21.98 So, it's not a salvation issue, but if you want to say, "What 00:35:22.02\00:35:25.25 does the Bible say?" 00:35:25.29\00:35:27.39 Typically, they were buried. 00:35:27.42\00:35:29.09 There are a couple of cases, like Jonathan was cremated and 00:35:29.12\00:35:33.86 Bible tells us he was a righteous man and he will no 00:35:33.90\00:35:36.40 doubt be in heaven. 00:35:36.43\00:35:38.67 But just about everyone else in the Bible was--they were buried. 00:35:38.70\00:35:43.00 So, yeah. 00:35:43.04\00:35:44.87 You can check out the YouTube on that and I know that today, 00:35:44.91\00:35:49.51 burial, especially with, you know, world population 00:35:49.54\00:35:52.35 exploding, burial places are becoming more and more rare or 00:35:52.38\00:35:58.05 are restricted. 00:35:58.09\00:35:59.55 And some cemeteries are actually putting two in a grave now 00:35:59.59\00:36:02.99 because it's--they're so crowded like Jerusalem. 00:36:03.02\00:36:06.70 But... yeah, I probably said enough on that. 00:36:06.73\00:36:11.37 Jëan: Okay. 00:36:11.40\00:36:12.70 Doug: So, yeah. 00:36:12.73\00:36:14.07 The example in the Bible would be burial, but some people are 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.50 choosing cremation because it's so much more affordable. 00:36:16.54\00:36:19.61 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Mark and Sarah 00:36:19.64\00:36:22.58 from Missouri. 00:36:22.61\00:36:23.91 Mark, Sarrah, welcome to the program. 00:36:23.95\00:36:25.65 Sarrah: Hello. 00:36:25.68\00:36:27.02 Thank you for your ministry and what you do. 00:36:27.05\00:36:28.42 We pray for you guys often and thank God for all the work that 00:36:28.45\00:36:32.09 you're doing. 00:36:32.12\00:36:33.46 Doug: Thanks so much. 00:36:33.49\00:36:34.72 Sarrah: Our question is, with so many denominations in the world, 00:36:34.76\00:36:38.26 how do we study the Bible to know that we're understanding it 00:36:38.29\00:36:41.86 accurately and correctly? 00:36:41.90\00:36:43.97 Doug: Great question. 00:36:44.00\00:36:45.33 You know, most Christians, if you look at, you know, all the 00:36:45.37\00:36:49.74 things to believe from the Bible, you'd probably find that 00:36:49.77\00:36:52.87 most Christians agree and overlap on 80 or 90% 00:36:52.91\00:36:56.41 of the teachings, you know, the basic morals 00:36:56.44\00:36:59.91 of Christianity and the salvation through faith in 00:36:59.95\00:37:02.95 Christ sacrifice. 00:37:02.98\00:37:04.92 Then there are areas where they diverge in, you know, some 00:37:04.95\00:37:08.09 pretty radical differences. 00:37:08.12\00:37:10.29 How do you know? 00:37:10.33\00:37:11.63 Well, one thing, allow the Bible to interpret itself. 00:37:11.66\00:37:14.83 Look for other Bible examples. 00:37:14.83\00:37:18.33 look at the example, of course, of Jesus and His life, you know, 00:37:18.37\00:37:21.34 when you're wondering about something. 00:37:21.37\00:37:22.77 So, well, what did Jesus do? 00:37:22.80\00:37:24.11 What would He--what did He teach? 00:37:24.14\00:37:26.57 And rightly dividing the Word, comparing scripture with 00:37:26.61\00:37:30.11 scripture is, I think the safest way. 00:37:30.15\00:37:33.42 God's truth really hasn't changed through history. 00:37:33.45\00:37:37.25 Some people think there's a different religion in the New 00:37:37.29\00:37:39.39 Testament than there was in the Old Testament. 00:37:39.42\00:37:42.09 No, they're all saved by faith. 00:37:42.12\00:37:44.66 We are saved by faith looking back to the cross. 00:37:44.69\00:37:47.20 They sacrifice the lambs because they were saved by looking 00:37:47.23\00:37:49.76 forward to the cross. 00:37:49.80\00:37:51.43 But there's one truth. 00:37:51.47\00:37:53.34 The Bible says one Lord, one faith, one baptism. 00:37:53.37\00:37:56.44 Makes sense that there should be one truth and it may not be the 00:37:56.47\00:38:00.38 most popular church. 00:38:00.41\00:38:01.91 If I was the devil, if Jesus had a true church in the world, I 00:38:01.94\00:38:06.18 would do everything I could to malign and misrepresent them, 00:38:06.21\00:38:09.78 to, you know, make it people turn away. 00:38:09.82\00:38:12.95 So, go by what the Bible says. 00:38:12.99\00:38:15.19 And we have a book called "Search tor the True Church." 00:38:15.22\00:38:17.46 You can tell from prophecy how to identify God's church in the 00:38:17.49\00:38:21.13 last days. 00:38:21.16\00:38:22.50 Jëan: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:38:22.53\00:38:26.20 That is the resource phone line. 00:38:26.23\00:38:27.87 You can ask for the study guide. 00:38:27.90\00:38:29.20 It's called the "Search for the True Church." 00:38:29.24\00:38:30.54 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:38:30.57\00:38:33.24 Maybe we'll just add a couple of verses to what you said, 00:38:33.27\00:38:35.21 Pastor Doug. 00:38:35.24\00:38:36.58 You got 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16. 00:38:36.61\00:38:38.45 It says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, it's 00:38:38.48\00:38:42.02 profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for 00:38:42.05\00:38:44.49 instruction in righteousness, the man of God might be 00:38:44.52\00:38:47.92 complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 00:38:47.96\00:38:50.03 So, we want to study the scriptures to find truth. 00:38:50.73\00:38:53.56 And then we have in Acts chapter 17:11, a group of people from 00:38:53.60\00:38:56.60 Thessalonica who search the scriptures daily. 00:38:56.63\00:38:59.77 So, these are people in the Word. 00:38:59.80\00:39:01.87 That's how we can find truth by spending time in the Word. 00:39:01.90\00:39:04.57 Doug: Amen. 00:39:04.61\00:39:05.91 Jëan: Thank you, Mark, Sarrah. 00:39:05.94\00:39:07.28 Alex in Florida, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:39:07.31\00:39:09.98 Alex: Good evening, pastors. 00:39:10.01\00:39:11.31 Doug: Evening. 00:39:11.35\00:39:12.68 Alex: Also wanted to thank you for your ministry. 00:39:12.71\00:39:14.12 It's just a great blessing. 00:39:14.15\00:39:15.95 Doug: Well, thank you. 00:39:15.98\00:39:18.02 Alex: Yeah, so, I had a question of Genesis 32 00:39:18.05\00:39:21.69 in verse 30, where Jacob, after wrestling with God, says, 00:39:21.72\00:39:27.23 "For I have seen God face to face, 00:39:27.23\00:39:30.23 and my life is preserved." 00:39:30.27\00:39:32.37 How do I understand this? 00:39:32.40\00:39:34.70 Seeing God face to face and, yeah, life is preserved, yeah. 00:39:34.74\00:39:38.31 Doug: Yeah, the ancient Hebrews rightly believe that no man 00:39:38.34\00:39:42.48 could endure looking into the face of God the Father 00:39:42.51\00:39:47.58 and survive. 00:39:47.62\00:39:48.95 And they didn't realize that sometimes they would look into 00:39:48.98\00:39:51.62 the face of what we call a Christophany, Jesus, 00:39:51.65\00:39:54.42 God the Son, before the incarnation. 00:39:54.46\00:39:56.66 He would sometimes veil His glory. 00:39:56.69\00:39:59.06 You know, He spoke to Abraham. 00:39:59.09\00:40:00.46 The Bible says, "As a man speaks to his friend." 00:40:00.50\00:40:03.23 Yet God said to Moses, "No man can see My face and live." 00:40:03.26\00:40:06.74 But then Jacob wrestled with this angel, evidently must have 00:40:06.77\00:40:10.04 seen his face at some point, wrestled all night. 00:40:10.07\00:40:12.71 And he says, "I've seen God face to face." 00:40:12.74\00:40:15.01 He probably saw God the Son. 00:40:15.04\00:40:16.78 Now, if you look in John 6:46, Christ said, "Not that any man 00:40:16.81\00:40:20.72 has seen the Father." 00:40:20.75\00:40:23.35 That's John 6:46. 00:40:23.39\00:40:25.22 But when we are perfectly purged from sin, it says in Revelation, 00:40:25.25\00:40:29.59 we will see His face. 00:40:29.62\00:40:32.26 That's going be--that's pretty awesome to think about. 00:40:32.29\00:40:34.76 But even the angels veil their faces from the face of God 00:40:34.83\00:40:37.60 on His throne in Isaiah 6. 00:40:37.63\00:40:39.97 I mean, the glory for humans just would destroy us 00:40:40.00\00:40:44.41 in our sinful condition. 00:40:44.44\00:40:46.51 But some day, we will see Him face to face, God the Father. 00:40:46.54\00:40:49.98 Jëan: All right, thank you, Alex. 00:40:50.01\00:40:51.31 Next caller that we have is Billy in Texas. 00:40:51.35\00:40:52.98 Billy, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:40:53.01\00:40:55.18 Billy: Good evening. 00:40:55.22\00:40:56.52 Doug: Evening. 00:40:56.55\00:40:57.89 Billy: I had a question. 00:40:57.92\00:40:59.22 I'm just kind of wondering about the parable of the rich man 00:40:59.25\00:41:02.29 and Lazarus. 00:41:02.32\00:41:03.66 I think how you say, when people die, that they don't know 00:41:03.69\00:41:08.20 anything, that they're under the altar, and their next conscious 00:41:08.23\00:41:11.13 thought is Jesus and the rapture, the awakening. 00:41:11.17\00:41:15.77 How do I fit that parable in to be true when all the others I 00:41:15.80\00:41:20.24 can see reverence in. 00:41:20.28\00:41:22.04 Doug: There first of all, I think the key is your phrase 00:41:22.08\00:41:24.51 right there, the parable. 00:41:24.55\00:41:26.11 A parable is a story that obviously some parts of the 00:41:26.15\00:41:30.15 parable are not to be taken literally. 00:41:30.19\00:41:32.99 Jesus compares the lost to sheep. 00:41:33.02\00:41:35.62 Well, we're not sheep. 00:41:35.66\00:41:37.03 He compares the lost to coins. 00:41:37.06\00:41:38.89 Well, we're not coins. 00:41:38.93\00:41:40.50 He compares the Word of God to seed. 00:41:40.53\00:41:42.23 Well, it's not, you know, sunflower seeds. 00:41:42.26\00:41:44.23 It's--so there's a lot of analogies. 00:41:44.27\00:41:46.40 And the story in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, you 00:41:46.43\00:41:50.61 know that there are symbols being used here because first of 00:41:50.64\00:41:53.61 all, there's nowhere else in the Bible where it says that all the 00:41:53.64\00:41:56.28 saved go to the bosom of Abraham. 00:41:56.31\00:41:58.31 It's the only place. 00:41:58.35\00:42:00.38 The reason he says the bosom of Abraham is because Abraham, the 00:42:00.42\00:42:04.15 sacred father of the Jewish nation, they all wanted to be 00:42:04.19\00:42:07.22 with Abraham. 00:42:07.26\00:42:08.76 And so, Jesus says that, and then he's got this--the rich 00:42:08.79\00:42:12.53 man, the poor Lazarus goes to Abraham's bosom. 00:42:12.56\00:42:15.26 The rich man, he goes to Hades, which is a Greek place 00:42:15.30\00:42:18.30 of torment. 00:42:18.33\00:42:19.67 So, he chooses a word from Greek mythology of a place of torment. 00:42:19.70\00:42:23.61 It's funny, he uses a paradox here. 00:42:23.64\00:42:25.84 He's saying Lazarus, who represents the Jews, 00:42:25.87\00:42:29.21 the Gentiles rather, they were starving for the truth. 00:42:29.24\00:42:31.35 They're at the rich man's gate. 00:42:31.38\00:42:34.32 Lazarus goes to be in the Jewish place of reward, and the rich 00:42:34.35\00:42:38.42 man who represents the Jewish nation that had all this 00:42:38.45\00:42:40.79 knowledge and truth they were feasting on while the Gentiles 00:42:40.82\00:42:44.33 died starving for the truth at their gate. 00:42:44.36\00:42:48.36 The rich man goes to the Greek place of torment. 00:42:48.40\00:42:51.07 So, Christ is using a little irony and humor in here. 00:42:51.10\00:42:54.97 No one believes that people in heaven and hell are going to be 00:42:55.00\00:42:57.27 able to talk to each other. 00:42:57.31\00:42:58.54 How could you enjoy heaven and be having a conversation with 00:42:58.57\00:43:01.44 somebody burning in the flame? 00:43:01.48\00:43:03.81 But in this parable, they are. 00:43:03.85\00:43:05.48 Abraham's talking to somebody burning in hell or in Hades. 00:43:05.51\00:43:10.09 And the whole purpose of the story is what you call the 00:43:10.12\00:43:12.75 punchline. 00:43:12.79\00:43:14.29 They said--the rich man says, "Oh, if he would send somebody 00:43:14.32\00:43:17.83 back to my father's house, warn my brothers lest they come to 00:43:17.86\00:43:21.03 this place of torment." 00:43:21.06\00:43:23.43 And Abraham says, "Well, they've got Moses and the prophets." 00:43:23.47\00:43:26.74 He said, "Oh, no. 00:43:26.77\00:43:28.10 But if someone would rise from the dead, then they'd believe." 00:43:28.14\00:43:31.14 And Jesus said, "If they do not believe Moses and the prophets," 00:43:31.17\00:43:34.24 meaning the Word of God, "neither will they be persuaded 00:43:34.28\00:43:36.88 though one should rise from the dead." 00:43:36.91\00:43:38.88 So, the whole purpose of the parable is to say that it's not 00:43:38.91\00:43:42.35 signs and wonders and miracles. 00:43:42.38\00:43:44.25 That if you don't believe the Word of God, even a 00:43:44.29\00:43:46.35 resurrection, and of course, Jesus did resurrect someone 00:43:46.39\00:43:49.96 named Lazarus and they wanted to kill Lazarus. 00:43:49.99\00:43:52.76 It didn't change them. 00:43:52.79\00:43:54.83 Jëan: Absolutely. 00:43:54.83\00:43:56.13 All right, well, thank you, great question. 00:43:56.16\00:43:58.73 Doug: Joe Cruz, I think, has a sermon book called "The Parable 00:43:58.77\00:44:00.44 of the Rich Man and Lazarus" that we can offer. 00:44:00.47\00:44:02.97 Jëan: Yeah, the number to call 800-835-6747. 00:44:03.00\00:44:05.14 You can ask for the book called "The Rich Man and Lazarus" that 00:44:05.17\00:44:08.78 explains this parable in more detail. 00:44:08.81\00:44:10.98 You can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:44:11.01\00:44:13.42 You can ask for it as well, called "The Rich Man 00:44:13.45\00:44:15.72 and Lazarus." 00:44:15.75\00:44:17.05 We've got Alice in New York. 00:44:17.09\00:44:18.39 Alice, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:44:18.42\00:44:20.46 Alice: Yes, hi. 00:44:20.49\00:44:23.99 My question is, oh, by the way, I love what you do for us. 00:44:24.03\00:44:27.36 Doug: Thank you. 00:44:27.40\00:44:28.66 Alice: So, my question is, why do people tell me that they 00:44:28.70\00:44:33.00 follow the nine commandments, but they don't follow the 00:44:33.03\00:44:37.01 Sabbath commandment? 00:44:37.04\00:44:38.57 What excuse are they using? 00:44:38.61\00:44:41.54 Doug: Yeah. 00:44:41.58\00:44:42.88 Well, there are some churches that only follow 00:44:42.91\00:44:44.31 eight commandments. 00:44:44.35\00:44:45.65 They not only neglect the Sabbath commandment, but they 00:44:45.68\00:44:47.38 have no problem with idols in their churches. 00:44:47.42\00:44:50.72 So--but yeah, a lot of churches will be perfectly fine if you 00:44:50.75\00:44:54.86 were to come and preach a sermon on honoring your parents, 00:44:54.89\00:44:58.63 or don't steal or don't lie, and they'd all say amen. 00:44:58.66\00:45:02.66 But when you get to the fourth commandment, this is, "And 00:45:02.70\00:45:04.70 remember the Sabbath day," they say, "Oh no, no, no. 00:45:04.73\00:45:06.57 We're not under the law now, we're under grace." 00:45:06.60\00:45:09.57 So, I hear, you know, there's not even agreement among 00:45:09.60\00:45:12.94 Christians that ignore the fourth commandment. 00:45:12.97\00:45:14.98 There is not consensus. 00:45:15.01\00:45:16.95 Some say Jesus changed the seventh day to the first day 00:45:16.98\00:45:20.95 with a resurrection, which sounds beautifully poetic, 00:45:20.98\00:45:24.49 but there's no command anywhere 00:45:24.52\00:45:26.15 that says from now on because of the resurrection, 00:45:26.19\00:45:28.32 keep the first day as the Sabbath. 00:45:28.36\00:45:29.89 Nothing like that in the Bible. 00:45:29.92\00:45:32.03 There is no command to keep the first day holy 00:45:32.06\00:45:35.06 anywhere in the Bible. 00:45:35.10\00:45:36.40 They say, well, "There's a tradition," but, you know, Jesus 00:45:36.43\00:45:38.60 said, "Why do you neglect the commandments of God to follow 00:45:38.63\00:45:40.97 your tradition?" 00:45:41.00\00:45:42.37 Another example is they say, "Well, we're not under the law. 00:45:42.40\00:45:44.71 We don't need to keep any day. 00:45:44.74\00:45:46.07 It doesn't matter if you go Saturday or Sunday or no day, 00:45:46.11\00:45:49.04 that now we're under grace, that the law's been nailed to 00:45:49.08\00:45:52.38 the cross." 00:45:52.41\00:45:53.88 But basically what they say is that God nailed all Ten 00:45:53.92\00:45:57.62 Commandments of the cross, but He reinstated nine of them. 00:45:57.65\00:46:01.19 It's like saying if you've got one finger that hurts, you cut 00:46:01.22\00:46:03.36 off all ten and sew nine of them back on. 00:46:03.39\00:46:05.86 It doesn't make any sense. 00:46:05.89\00:46:07.56 Then I heard one creed of man say that back in the days of 00:46:07.60\00:46:10.23 Joshua, the sun stood still Saturday turned to Sunday. 00:46:10.27\00:46:13.84 But they kept still the seventh day for another thousand years. 00:46:13.87\00:46:17.67 So, that's a silly analogy. 00:46:17.71\00:46:20.38 So, there's not even agreement about why you would want to get 00:46:20.41\00:46:24.75 rid of a commandment, except that it's just been such a 00:46:24.78\00:46:27.12 long tradition. 00:46:27.15\00:46:28.48 A lot of churches and pastors know to try to change that 00:46:28.52\00:46:31.65 and do what Jesus did, it would be very difficult. 00:46:31.69\00:46:35.42 But if you go by what the Bible says, Christ kept the seventh 00:46:35.46\00:46:38.33 day of the week. 00:46:38.36\00:46:39.66 God's people kept the seventh day of the week. 00:46:39.69\00:46:41.00 The early Christians kept the seventh day of the week. 00:46:41.03\00:46:43.40 God's law does not change. 00:46:43.43\00:46:44.93 It's written in stone, and He's the same yesterday, today, 00:46:44.97\00:46:48.97 and forever. 00:46:49.00\00:46:50.31 The Saturday is what we call--the Sabbath is what we 00:46:50.34\00:46:53.27 call Saturday today. 00:46:53.31\00:46:55.01 So, there is no good reason. 00:46:55.04\00:46:57.35 Jëan: Pastor Doug, even early Protestant reformers, for 00:46:57.38\00:46:59.71 example, the pilgrims that came to the United States, 00:46:59.75\00:47:02.72 they believed in the Sabbath commandment. 00:47:02.75\00:47:04.05 Now, of course, they thought it was on the first day of 00:47:04.09\00:47:05.69 the week. 00:47:05.72\00:47:06.96 They thought it was Sunday, but they still encouraged people to 00:47:06.99\00:47:08.69 observe what they considered the Sabbath. 00:47:08.72\00:47:11.16 They even called Sunday Sabbath, right? 00:47:11.19\00:47:13.63 And they were to observe it. 00:47:13.66\00:47:15.13 They were to keep it. 00:47:15.16\00:47:16.40 And now, of course, today, even amongst churches that do worship 00:47:16.43\00:47:18.83 on Sunday, there's not much keeping of the day. 00:47:18.87\00:47:22.00 Doug: No. 00:47:22.04\00:47:23.34 Jëan: It's all been set aside. 00:47:23.37\00:47:24.71 Doug: Yeah, in the last 50 years it has been sort of a 00:47:24.74\00:47:27.38 distancing from the whole Sabbath truth about resting that 00:47:27.41\00:47:31.38 in seventh. 00:47:31.41\00:47:32.75 Jëan: We have a study guide. 00:47:32.78\00:47:34.08 It's called "The Lost Day of History" that explains the 00:47:34.12\00:47:35.85 subject in more detail. 00:47:35.88\00:47:37.32 We'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:47:37.35\00:47:39.49 Just ask for it. 00:47:39.52\00:47:40.82 It's called "The Lost Day of History." 00:47:40.86\00:47:42.19 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:47:42.22\00:47:45.19 You can dial #250 on your smartphone and say, "I like the 00:47:45.23\00:47:49.13 study guide called 'The Lost Day of History."' 00:47:49.16\00:47:51.73 Next caller that we have is Nathaniel in Kentucky. 00:47:51.77\00:47:54.37 Nathanael, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:47:54.40\00:47:56.24 Nathanael: Thank you very much. 00:47:56.27\00:47:57.61 Doug: Thanks for calling. 00:47:57.64\00:47:58.94 Nathanael: Appreciate for what you do. 00:47:58.97\00:48:00.88 I've been following you for several years from Africa. 00:48:00.91\00:48:05.38 I've been watching you. 00:48:05.41\00:48:07.02 So, I really appreciate. 00:48:07.05\00:48:09.15 I've--this has changed me a lot. 00:48:09.18\00:48:13.52 Doug: Well, praise the Lord. 00:48:13.56\00:48:14.86 Thank you so much. 00:48:14.89\00:48:16.22 We are glad to hear that, Nathanael. 00:48:16.26\00:48:18.39 Nathanael: So, my question is, I've been reading Revelation 00:48:18.43\00:48:22.83 chapter 11. 00:48:22.86\00:48:24.70 So, the two witnesses, but I failed to understand who are 00:48:24.73\00:48:30.17 those two witnesses. 00:48:30.21\00:48:32.54 Doug: Yes, in Revelation 11, and we probably can't go through the 00:48:32.57\00:48:36.01 whole passage because it's a lengthy study, but in a 00:48:36.04\00:48:40.12 nutshell, the two witnesses are the Word of God. 00:48:40.15\00:48:43.59 You know, they're symbolized by Moses and Elijah, Moses being 00:48:43.62\00:48:47.22 the law, Elijah the prophets, you could say they're the New 00:48:47.26\00:48:49.89 and the Old Testament. 00:48:49.92\00:48:51.56 The Word of God is often given in a dual nature in the Bible. 00:48:51.59\00:48:55.06 The Ten Commandments are on two tables of stone. 00:48:55.10\00:48:58.40 The law of God is like a two-edged sword. 00:48:58.43\00:49:01.27 The Word of God is a double-edged sword. 00:49:01.30\00:49:03.17 So, these two witnesses, you find them also mentioned 00:49:03.20\00:49:06.31 in Zechariah. 00:49:06.34\00:49:07.81 It says, "They're like the two olive trees." 00:49:07.84\00:49:10.11 And then it gives characteristics about them. 00:49:10.15\00:49:12.61 It says they can shut up the heavens. 00:49:12.65\00:49:14.78 Well, you know, there's places in the Bible where Elijah and 00:49:14.82\00:49:17.95 Moses, they say the heavens would be shut up. 00:49:17.99\00:49:21.59 And then it says they can call down plagues and you see that in 00:49:21.62\00:49:25.16 the Bible. 00:49:25.19\00:49:26.59 And then it's also telling something that would happen to 00:49:26.63\00:49:28.56 the Word of God. 00:49:28.60\00:49:30.30 That just near the end of this papal persecution that ended in 00:49:30.33\00:49:35.44 1798, there was a period where there was a war against the Word 00:49:35.47\00:49:39.74 of God and a first atheistic country was France. 00:49:39.77\00:49:43.38 And they for three and a half years, they burnt Bibles and 00:49:43.41\00:49:48.35 destroyed them, and it looked like the two witnesses laid in 00:49:48.38\00:49:50.72 the street. 00:49:50.75\00:49:52.05 Symbolically, the Word of God was desecrated. 00:49:52.09\00:49:54.76 But then it came back to life. 00:49:54.79\00:49:56.42 They--the nation suffered terribly from that. 00:49:56.46\00:50:00.33 They suffered spiritually. 00:50:00.36\00:50:02.20 They restored the Word of God and it was exalted back 00:50:02.23\00:50:05.60 to heaven. 00:50:05.63\00:50:06.97 And so, that's a longer study. 00:50:07.00\00:50:08.54 Do we have a--. 00:50:08.57\00:50:09.87 Jëan: We do, we got a book, it's called "The Two Witnesses." 00:50:09.90\00:50:11.47 Doug: Oh, there we go. 00:50:11.51\00:50:12.81 Jëan: Moses and Elijah, you wrote it Pastor Doug. 00:50:12.84\00:50:15.28 That's a good one. 00:50:15.31\00:50:16.61 Doug: It doesn't go into France, I don't think. 00:50:16.64\00:50:17.95 Jëan: But it does talk about the two witnesses. 00:50:17.98\00:50:19.48 So yes, if you'd like to get that book, just call and ask. 00:50:19.51\00:50:22.28 It's 800-835-6747. 00:50:22.32\00:50:25.49 It's called "The Two Witnesses," written by Pastor Doug. 00:50:25.52\00:50:28.16 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:50:28.19\00:50:30.13 You can dial #250 on your smartphone and ask for that. 00:50:30.16\00:50:34.00 A lot of great information. 00:50:34.03\00:50:35.96 Next one that we have is Pamela in Washington. 00:50:36.00\00:50:38.07 Pamela, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:50:38.10\00:50:39.83 Pamela: Hi, how are you doing tonight? 00:50:39.87\00:50:42.47 Doug: Doing great, thank you for calling. 00:50:42.50\00:50:44.81 Pamela: My question tonight is, Daniel 8:14 of the cleansing 00:50:44.84\00:50:49.81 of the sanctuary, and I'm assuming that sanctuary is in 00:50:49.84\00:50:53.65 heaven, and I was wondering what is being cleansed in 00:50:53.68\00:50:57.82 that sanctuary? 00:50:57.85\00:50:59.92 Doug: Yeah, well, there's--this is very important to understand. 00:50:59.95\00:51:02.99 There are two things that are happening there. 00:51:03.02\00:51:04.79 You've got a sanctuary in heaven and a sanctuary on earth. 00:51:04.83\00:51:08.96 In the earthly sanctuary in the Old Testament, they had once a 00:51:09.00\00:51:12.57 year a special cleansing of the sanctuary. 00:51:12.60\00:51:14.90 It was called the Day of Atonement. 00:51:14.94\00:51:16.64 We call it Yom Kippur, when the high priests would enter into 00:51:16.67\00:51:20.08 the holy of holies and go through a ceremony where the 00:51:20.11\00:51:23.55 people were separated from the sins that had been 00:51:23.58\00:51:26.48 stored symbolically. 00:51:26.51\00:51:27.82 You can't store, you know, sin like you do data on a hard 00:51:27.85\00:51:31.29 drive, but the sins had symbolically been stored because 00:51:31.32\00:51:34.66 of the shedding of blood in the sanctuary. 00:51:34.69\00:51:36.86 The priests would go through this ritual where they had the 00:51:36.89\00:51:39.09 two goats. 00:51:39.13\00:51:40.43 One was slain, one was carried off and abandoned in 00:51:40.46\00:51:42.93 the wilderness. 00:51:42.96\00:51:44.33 And it basically gave them a fresh start with the new year. 00:51:44.37\00:51:48.64 Now this happens for God's people spiritually when Jesus, 00:51:48.67\00:51:51.84 our high priests, entered into heaven. 00:51:51.87\00:51:54.24 And we've entered that last phase of His heavenly ministry 00:51:54.28\00:51:58.01 as our high priests. 00:51:58.05\00:51:59.35 You can read about this in Hebrews several chapters. 00:51:59.38\00:52:03.22 Hebrews 9, Hebrews 8. 00:52:03.25\00:52:05.79 And now there's a sanctuary on earth too, 00:52:05.82\00:52:07.69 which is His church. 00:52:07.72\00:52:09.19 The Bible says, "You are the body of Christ." 00:52:09.22\00:52:11.66 So, this time prophecy, if you go 2300 years from the going 00:52:11.69\00:52:17.60 forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem, the 00:52:17.63\00:52:20.57 date to start the prophecy is in the next chapter. 00:52:20.60\00:52:24.51 And if you go from that, which is 457, is when Artaxerxes 00:52:24.54\00:52:28.81 gave the decree, you find that in Ezra chapter 7. 00:52:28.84\00:52:32.05 He gave the decree to restore and build Jerusalem. 00:52:32.08\00:52:35.02 And if you go 2300 years, because in a prophecy like this 00:52:35.05\00:52:39.32 a day is a year, it reaches 1844. 00:52:39.35\00:52:42.86 Well, what happened there? 00:52:42.89\00:52:44.33 Well, you enter the last age of the church called Laodicea, 00:52:44.36\00:52:47.76 which means a judging of the people. 00:52:47.76\00:52:50.30 God--Christ enters His final work as our heavenly 00:52:50.33\00:52:53.60 high priest. 00:52:53.64\00:52:54.97 And He also began a movement cleansing His church on earth. 00:52:55.00\00:53:00.24 Now, if you look in Daniel chapter 8 to understand, you go 00:53:00.28\00:53:02.64 to verse 12. 00:53:02.68\00:53:04.45 And it says, "Because of transgression, an army was given 00:53:04.48\00:53:07.62 over to the horn," this little horn power, "to oppose the daily 00:53:07.65\00:53:11.25 sacrifice; and he cast truth down to the ground." 00:53:11.29\00:53:16.16 So, when truth is cast down to the ground, God's church is 00:53:16.19\00:53:19.79 defiled by error. 00:53:19.83\00:53:21.96 God began a movement in 1844 on Earth that he restored 00:53:22.00\00:53:27.80 these truths that had been lost during the Dark Ages. 00:53:27.84\00:53:31.41 And He was cleansing the sanctuary on earth as He's 00:53:31.44\00:53:33.98 cleansing the sanctuary in heaven. 00:53:34.01\00:53:35.74 And when Michael stands up and he's done, then a time of 00:53:35.78\00:53:39.55 trouble comes. 00:53:39.58\00:53:40.88 So, we're living in this last stage and age of the church. 00:53:40.92\00:53:44.65 Now that was a very quick answer, but it's a big question. 00:53:44.69\00:53:49.19 Jëan: You know, we do have a study guide, actually two, 00:53:49.22\00:53:51.09 that might be helpful. 00:53:51.13\00:53:52.43 The one is called "Right On Time." 00:53:52.46\00:53:53.80 And it talks about that time prophecy, Daniel 8:14. 00:53:53.83\00:53:56.26 And then there's another one called "Case Closed." 00:53:56.30\00:53:58.93 Talks about a heavenly judgment that takes place just before 00:53:58.97\00:54:02.37 Jesus comes. 00:54:02.40\00:54:03.71 You can call and ask for both of those studies. 00:54:03.74\00:54:05.54 They kind of go together. 00:54:05.57\00:54:06.88 The one is called "Right On Time" and the other is called 00:54:06.91\00:54:09.31 "Case Closed." 00:54:09.34\00:54:10.88 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:54:10.91\00:54:14.82 You can ask for that. 00:54:14.85\00:54:16.15 You can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:54:16.18\00:54:18.92 And again, the study guide is called "Right On Time" and 00:54:18.95\00:54:21.46 "Case Closed." 00:54:21.49\00:54:22.79 Those are the two that go along with that question. 00:54:22.82\00:54:25.59 We got Erica in Canada. 00:54:25.63\00:54:27.30 Erica, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:54:27.36\00:54:29.53 Erica: Thank you for answering my call. 00:54:29.56\00:54:34.14 I have a question. 00:54:34.17\00:54:36.74 So, does God--like, does God understand the pains that 00:54:36.77\00:54:42.84 we feel? 00:54:42.88\00:54:44.21 Does He like come down to our level to like understand that we 00:54:44.25\00:54:49.08 are going through the trials and tribulations because He's very 00:54:49.12\00:54:53.46 powerful and He's just up in heaven. 00:54:53.49\00:54:56.36 And then I have another one. 00:54:56.39\00:54:58.23 Is God--I know God doesn't have like limitations to what He can 00:54:58.26\00:55:01.70 answer, but at the same time, does God--are there things that 00:55:01.73\00:55:05.80 God cannot do because of the circumstances surrounding? 00:55:05.83\00:55:09.50 Doug: Yeah, yeah, great questions. 00:55:09.54\00:55:11.81 Two big questions in just a minute or two. 00:55:11.84\00:55:14.38 God feels everything we feel because He's all knowing. 00:55:14.41\00:55:17.91 He knows what you're feeling better than you do. 00:55:17.95\00:55:20.85 And Jesus came into the world not so God could figure out what 00:55:20.88\00:55:24.02 we're feeling, but so we would also know that He knows because 00:55:24.05\00:55:27.99 He really did experience what--He was tempted, it says in 00:55:28.02\00:55:30.93 Hebrews, in all points as we are. 00:55:30.96\00:55:34.20 And yeah, God does--He does care. 00:55:34.23\00:55:36.77 What was the second part of that question? 00:55:36.80\00:55:38.87 Jëan: Is there stuff that He doesn't do or can't do? 00:55:38.90\00:55:40.84 Doug: Oh yeah. 00:55:40.87\00:55:42.17 There things that God can't do, yeah. 00:55:42.20\00:55:43.51 God can't lie. 00:55:43.54\00:55:44.87 And the Bible says that, you know, God, He can't stop 00:55:44.91\00:55:49.48 loving you. 00:55:49.51\00:55:50.85 There's nothing that can separate God from His love for 00:55:50.88\00:55:52.95 you there in Romans chapter 8. 00:55:52.98\00:55:55.08 Jëan: And God won't force the will. 00:55:55.12\00:55:56.95 We have freedom to choose. 00:55:56.99\00:55:58.35 Doug: And yeah. 00:55:58.39\00:55:59.69 So, in that sense, you might say God doesn't tempt anybody. 00:55:59.72\00:56:02.12 He can't be tempted by evil, and neither does He tempt anyone. 00:56:02.16\00:56:05.96 So, I've actually got a study. 00:56:05.99\00:56:07.46 I don't have it in front of me now, and it's like eight things 00:56:07.50\00:56:09.43 God can't do. 00:56:09.46\00:56:10.87 But it's talking about He can't go against His own nature 00:56:10.90\00:56:13.50 because God is omnipotent. 00:56:13.54\00:56:15.37 And He can save you, friends. 00:56:15.40\00:56:17.67 That's the good news. 00:56:17.71\00:56:19.01 So, no matter what you've been through or what your trials 00:56:19.04\00:56:21.11 might be, He knows, He understands, and He feels your 00:56:21.14\00:56:25.58 tears, He feels your pain, and He wants you to have a new life 00:56:25.61\00:56:31.22 that comes from a relationship with Him. 00:56:31.25\00:56:33.36 Surrender your life to Jesus. 00:56:33.39\00:56:34.86 It's the best decision you can ever make and you'll never 00:56:34.89\00:56:37.33 regret it. 00:56:37.36\00:56:38.69 Check out the Bible studies that are free, amazingfacts.org, and 00:56:38.73\00:56:42.36 we're going to study His Word with you again soon. 00:56:42.40\00:56:46.17 Jëan: We got time maybe for one more caller pastor Doug. 00:56:46.20\00:56:48.40 We've got Tabitha listening in Nevada. 00:56:48.44\00:56:50.64 Tabitha, we got about a minute. 00:56:50.67\00:56:52.31 Welcome to the program. 00:56:52.34\00:56:53.64 Tabitha: Thank you. 00:56:53.68\00:56:56.95 My question is in Matthew chapter 27, verses 52 and 53. 00:56:56.98\00:57:01.65 It says, "And the graves were open; and many bodies of the 00:57:01.68\00:57:04.25 saints which slept and arose, and they came out of their 00:57:04.29\00:57:07.96 graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and 00:57:07.99\00:57:11.43 appeared unto many." 00:57:11.46\00:57:13.06 Where exactly did they go? 00:57:13.09\00:57:14.96 Explain the holy city, is that heaven 00:57:15.00\00:57:17.43 or can you explain, please? 00:57:17.47\00:57:19.53 Thank you. 00:57:19.57\00:57:20.87 Doug: Well, the Holy City was another name for Jerusalem, and 00:57:20.90\00:57:23.44 this is a very special resurrection of few people that 00:57:23.47\00:57:26.61 had--some of the saints that had died around Jerusalem. 00:57:26.64\00:57:29.74 They came out of their graves. 00:57:29.78\00:57:31.51 They appeared after the resurrection of Jesus to some 00:57:31.55\00:57:34.48 people in Jerusalem. 00:57:34.52\00:57:36.05 They identified who they were. 00:57:36.08\00:57:37.79 And then when Christ ascended to heaven, when He told Mary, "I've 00:57:37.82\00:57:41.06 not yet ascended to my Father," but then He ascended, they 00:57:41.09\00:57:44.16 ascended with Him. 00:57:44.19\00:57:45.49 They were like His firstfruits. 00:57:45.53\00:57:47.00 There's a verse is it in Ephesians, Pastor Ross. 00:57:47.03\00:57:49.56 He led captivity captive. 00:57:49.60\00:57:50.90 Jëan: Ephesians 4, verse 8. 00:57:50.93\00:57:52.47 Doug: And they were the trophies that He led to heaven. 00:57:52.50\00:57:56.07 Well, thank you very much for your questions, friends. 00:57:56.10\00:57:58.11 And please keep in mind Amazing Facts is supported entirely by 00:57:58.14\00:58:02.78 our listeners. 00:58:02.81\00:58:04.11 God bless you and thank you so
