words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.41 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.44\00:00:16.34 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.38\00:00:19.68 Welcome 00:00:38.40\00:00:43.71 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.88 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.91\00:00:50.18 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends, would you like to hear 00:00:50.21\00:00:52.88 an amazing fact? 00:00:52.91\00:00:55.18 Most Christians would admit that they should pray more often and 00:00:55.22\00:00:58.19 longer, but few have prayed as consistently as the 00:00:58.22\00:01:02.26 early Moravians. 00:01:02.29\00:01:04.13 Following the martyr Jan Hus, Moravian Christians are 00:01:04.16\00:01:07.60 considered to be the first Protestants. 00:01:07.66\00:01:10.10 They got their name because they fled from persecution 00:01:10.13\00:01:12.53 in Moravia. 00:01:12.57\00:01:14.04 Many settled on the estate of a wealthy Christian count named 00:01:14.07\00:01:17.67 Zinzendorf in Saxony. 00:01:17.71\00:01:20.01 As their numbers grew, the community at Herrnhut began to 00:01:20.04\00:01:23.38 descend into various fractions and bickering. 00:01:23.41\00:01:26.65 Then on August 1727, Count Zinzendorf suggested 00:01:26.68\00:01:30.32 that they pray. 00:01:30.35\00:01:31.69 This turned into an all-night prayer vigil. 00:01:31.72\00:01:34.56 The spirit of forgiveness and revival was so promising, 00:01:34.59\00:01:38.09 the group decided to start a continuous prayer vigil. 00:01:38.13\00:01:41.26 They designated a place in the village, divided the week into 00:01:41.30\00:01:44.47 168 one-hour time slots, and they prayed in groups of two or 00:01:44.50\00:01:48.77 three for one-hour increments. 00:01:48.80\00:01:51.71 From then on, for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, two to 00:01:51.74\00:01:56.78 three people were always praying in the place of prayer. 00:01:56.81\00:02:00.48 What's more, this around the clock prayer meeting went on 00:02:00.52\00:02:03.85 uninterrupted for over a hundred years. 00:02:03.89\00:02:07.86 By 1791, 65 years after the commencement of that prayer 00:02:07.89\00:02:11.99 vigil, the small Moravian community had sent out over 300 00:02:12.03\00:02:16.46 missionaries to the four corners of the earth. 00:02:16.50\00:02:19.30 These were some of the first Protestant missionaries. 00:02:19.33\00:02:22.30 You know, Pastor Ross just reminds me of the, the power of 00:02:22.34\00:02:26.34 prayer and how we need to pray more. 00:02:26.37\00:02:28.34 And you wonder if Christians today, generally speaking, 00:02:28.38\00:02:32.71 understand what it means when they sing "Sweet Hour 00:02:32.75\00:02:35.58 of Prayer." 00:02:35.62\00:02:36.92 How few people actually pray an hour, and Jesus, it says he 00:02:36.95\00:02:40.86 spent a whole night in prayer. 00:02:40.89\00:02:44.26 And here these folks, they were spending--they wanted someone in 00:02:44.29\00:02:49.43 the community to constantly be in prayer. 00:02:49.46\00:02:51.93 Now you and I have been at meetings where while we're 00:02:51.97\00:02:53.60 preaching, there's someone in the prayer room and they're 00:02:53.64\00:02:56.07 praying the whole time, which is comforting, and you sense it 00:02:56.10\00:03:00.51 makes a difference. 00:03:00.54\00:03:01.81 Jëan Ross: Well, you know, the apostle Paul says, "We battle 00:03:01.84\00:03:03.68 not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and 00:03:03.71\00:03:06.35 powers," and you know, prayer is a powerful weapon against 00:03:06.38\00:03:09.72 the forces of evil. 00:03:09.75\00:03:11.05 And when we get involved, especially in witnessing 00:03:11.09\00:03:13.72 the evangelism and sharing our faith, it must be done with much 00:03:13.76\00:03:17.43 prayer, because the devil doesn't like that. 00:03:17.46\00:03:19.13 And so, a church that prays, a family that prays together, 00:03:19.16\00:03:22.40 a church that prays together, is a church that is going to grow. 00:03:22.43\00:03:25.33 Doug: Amen, yeah, and they accomplished much in doing that. 00:03:25.37\00:03:28.17 God seems to bless. 00:03:28.20\00:03:29.57 The Lord does when we pray what He otherwise might not do. 00:03:29.60\00:03:35.51 It makes a difference. 00:03:35.54\00:03:37.15 Now, folks might be asking that question the disciples ask. 00:03:37.18\00:03:40.75 You can read in Luke 11, verse 1, says, "It came to pass, 00:03:40.78\00:03:44.05 as Jesus was praying, when he ceased, his disciples said to 00:03:44.09\00:03:47.79 him, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his 00:03:47.82\00:03:51.83 disciples--'" and when they saw Jesus come from prayer, 00:03:51.86\00:03:54.83 He looked energized and invigorated, and He may have 00:03:54.83\00:03:57.47 been glowing with God's glory. 00:03:57.50\00:03:59.07 And they said, "Wow, that's real prayer. 00:03:59.10\00:04:02.27 We--maybe we're not doing it right." 00:04:02.30\00:04:04.47 And I think Spurgeon said, "I'd rather teach ten pastors to pray 00:04:04.51\00:04:09.58 rather than preach, if they could just pray." 00:04:09.61\00:04:13.08 And, friends, we'd like to offer you a free book that talks about 00:04:13.11\00:04:15.88 how we could know more about what biblical prayer is and 00:04:15.92\00:04:19.19 the power there. 00:04:19.22\00:04:20.56 Jëan: Yes, the book is called "Teach Us to Pray," and it's 00:04:20.59\00:04:22.92 free to anyone who calls and asks. 00:04:22.96\00:04:24.39 The number is 800-835-6747, you can ask for the book, "Teach Us 00:04:24.43\00:04:28.80 to Pray." 00:04:28.83\00:04:30.13 Or you can dial #250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:04:30.17\00:04:34.04 Live," and then ask for the book. 00:04:34.07\00:04:36.24 We can send you a digital copy of the book, "Teach Us to Pray." 00:04:36.27\00:04:40.14 And you know, Pastor Doug, we just want to encourage folks to 00:04:40.18\00:04:42.18 take advantage of this, it's free. 00:04:42.21\00:04:44.18 In the book, you actually give some guidelines, 00:04:44.21\00:04:46.48 some principles. 00:04:46.51\00:04:47.82 Sometimes people wonder, "Well, when it comes to pray, where 00:04:47.85\00:04:49.18 do I start? 00:04:49.22\00:04:50.45 You know, how do I keep my mind focused on the important things 00:04:50.49\00:04:53.92 that I need to be praying about?" 00:04:53.96\00:04:55.26 So, a number of practical principles are found in 00:04:55.29\00:04:57.59 the book. 00:04:57.63\00:04:58.96 It's called "Teach Us to Pray," and it's free. 00:04:58.99\00:05:00.36 Call and ask for it. 00:05:00.40\00:05:02.03 Well, before we go to the phone lines, it's probably good for us 00:05:02.06\00:05:04.13 to do the very thing we're talking about, and that is pray. 00:05:04.17\00:05:06.37 So, why don't you join us as we open with the word of prayer? 00:05:06.40\00:05:09.04 Dear Father, we are so grateful that we do have this opportunity 00:05:09.07\00:05:11.71 to open up Your Word and study. 00:05:11.74\00:05:14.18 Jesus said, "You shall know the truth, and the truth 00:05:14.21\00:05:15.94 will set you free." 00:05:15.98\00:05:17.31 And so, thank you for the truth of Your Word and bless those who 00:05:17.35\00:05:19.65 are listening wherever they might be. 00:05:19.68\00:05:21.18 And guide us, Lord, into a clear understanding of Bible truth 00:05:21.22\00:05:24.05 today, for we ask us in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:24.09\00:05:28.39 All right, ready to go to the phone lines, and our first 00:05:28.42\00:05:30.43 caller this evening is Teresa from Canada. 00:05:30.46\00:05:33.26 Teresa, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:33.29\00:05:35.66 Teresa: Hello. 00:05:35.70\00:05:37.00 Doug: Hi, thank you for calling. 00:05:37.03\00:05:38.57 Teresa: I have a question. 00:05:38.60\00:05:41.20 So, a few weeks ago, I was listening on YouTube, just every 00:05:41.24\00:05:46.44 night of old programs that you have, and you had mentioned 00:05:46.47\00:05:50.25 something about not calling anyone on earth "father." 00:05:50.28\00:05:55.05 So I was looking it up in Matthew 23:9. 00:05:55.08\00:06:01.02 And I know I--like, lots of times I call my dad "Dad," but 00:06:01.06\00:06:04.53 there's many times I call him "Father" also. 00:06:04.56\00:06:09.23 Should I not do that? 00:06:09.26\00:06:11.50 Doug: No, nothing wrong with that. 00:06:11.53\00:06:13.40 If you read the context of what Jesus is saying, He's speaking 00:06:13.44\00:06:16.64 about in church relationships. 00:06:16.67\00:06:18.74 And He starts out, for instance, He's talking about the 00:06:18.77\00:06:20.94 Pharisees, the religious leaders. 00:06:20.98\00:06:23.58 Chapter 23 begins with, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in 00:06:23.61\00:06:26.65 Moses' seat." 00:06:26.68\00:06:27.98 And then you can look a little later, and he says, "You 00:06:28.02\00:06:32.85 don't--but you are all not to be called Rabbi, for you have one 00:06:32.89\00:06:35.86 teacher, and you're all brothers. 00:06:35.89\00:06:37.76 And call no man your father on earth." They used to call 00:06:37.79\00:06:40.60 religious leaders "Father," and you can look in the Old 00:06:40.63\00:06:43.73 Testament when Elijah goes to heaven, his apprentice said, "My 00:06:43.77\00:06:48.10 father, my father," and in a sense, Elisha could say that 00:06:48.14\00:06:50.87 more than others, because Elijah kind of adopted Elisha in that 00:06:50.91\00:06:54.24 he left his family. 00:06:54.28\00:06:55.64 But, so it became a custom, they were often calling religious 00:06:55.68\00:06:59.18 leaders "Father," and, you know, in some churches, they call 00:06:59.21\00:07:03.08 the priest "Father." 00:07:03.12\00:07:04.65 And Jesus is saying, "Don't do that. 00:07:04.69\00:07:06.76 You've got one Father in heaven. 00:07:06.79\00:07:08.59 He is your spiritual Father." 00:07:08.62\00:07:10.83 Nothing wrong with calling your dad "Father." 00:07:10.86\00:07:12.96 That's--you know, He's not addressing that. 00:07:12.99\00:07:14.30 He's talking about church relationships here. 00:07:14.30\00:07:16.46 Jëan: And, you know, great emphasis was placed upon the 00:07:16.50\00:07:18.87 council or the teachings of the fathers, especially back in the 00:07:18.90\00:07:22.27 time of Christ. 00:07:22.30\00:07:23.64 The elders would often referred to, "Well, the fathers said," 00:07:23.67\00:07:26.07 and they're talking to patriarchs in the church, and 00:07:26.11\00:07:29.18 they were considered to be the final word when it came to 00:07:29.21\00:07:31.68 finding truth or doctrine. 00:07:31.71\00:07:33.45 While Jesus is saying the One who you're to seek for final 00:07:33.48\00:07:36.79 truth is your heavenly Father. 00:07:36.82\00:07:38.99 Go to the Word of God, don't go to some earthly person, think 00:07:39.02\00:07:42.12 that they have the final word on doctrine. 00:07:42.16\00:07:44.19 Doug: Yeah, and even more than that, if you read just what it 00:07:44.23\00:07:46.73 says after it, He talks about pride. 00:07:46.76\00:07:50.07 They had titles, and they made a big deal out of the titles. 00:07:50.10\00:07:53.67 And He said, "Neither be called instructors, for you have one 00:07:53.70\00:07:56.44 instructor-" He said, "The greatest among you will be 00:07:56.47\00:07:59.51 His servant. 00:07:59.54\00:08:00.84 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled..." He's talking about 00:08:00.88\00:08:03.18 wanting titles of preeminence above others. 00:08:03.21\00:08:06.31 It--nothing wrong with calling your dad "Father." 00:08:06.35\00:08:08.55 Jëan: Okay, thank you, Teresa. 00:08:08.58\00:08:09.92 We've got Allen in California. 00:08:09.95\00:08:11.29 Allen, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:08:11.32\00:08:13.59 Allen: Good evening, gentlemen. 00:08:13.62\00:08:15.16 I'm calling from Bakersfield. 00:08:15.19\00:08:16.96 My question is--regards 2--or 1 Corinthians 15:52, and it's 00:08:16.99\00:08:23.40 regarding the Rapture. 00:08:23.43\00:08:24.77 It says, "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last 00:08:24.80\00:08:27.84 trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead in Christ 00:08:27.87\00:08:30.44 shall be raised incorruptible." Now, "the last trump," now, 00:08:30.47\00:08:33.51 unless President Trump has sons that go into politics, he's the 00:08:33.54\00:08:36.68 last Trump, so the Rapture is in four years. 00:08:36.71\00:08:40.88 Is that, is that accurate? 00:08:40.92\00:08:42.22 Doug: No, I don't think so. 00:08:42.25\00:08:44.85 I, you know, I never thought to play it that way. 00:08:44.89\00:08:47.66 I think it's talking about the trumpet that will sound, 00:08:47.69\00:08:50.49 the instrument. 00:08:50.53\00:08:51.76 Jëan: Now, of course, if you read it in the New King James, 00:08:51.79\00:08:53.56 it says "trumpet," so trump and trumpet, same thing. 00:08:53.60\00:08:56.26 Doug: Yeah. 00:08:56.30\00:08:57.60 When you say "Rapture" there, it--of course, we're talking 00:08:57.63\00:08:59.77 about when that we are caught up to meet the Lord, and this is, 00:08:59.80\00:09:03.81 this is also the same time as the general resurrection. 00:09:03.84\00:09:07.38 So you've got the Lord descending, the living who are 00:09:07.41\00:09:10.25 righteous are transformed, and they get glorified bodies. 00:09:10.28\00:09:13.62 The dead righteous, who are asleep, they are raised, they 00:09:13.65\00:09:16.32 are caught up to meet the Lord in the air first. 00:09:16.35\00:09:19.02 Then we are caught up to meet them, because they're already 00:09:19.05\00:09:21.89 with the Lord when we get there. 00:09:21.92\00:09:23.66 So, yeah, it's talking about the trumpet, and I think it says--it 00:09:23.69\00:09:28.73 does use the word "trumpet" in a couple places when it speaks 00:09:28.76\00:09:31.07 about that event. 00:09:31.10\00:09:32.40 Jëan: You know, we have a study guide. 00:09:32.43\00:09:33.77 It's called "Ultimate Deliverance," and it's about 00:09:33.80\00:09:35.40 the Second Coming of Christ. 00:09:35.44\00:09:36.77 It gives you the biblical principles. 00:09:36.81\00:09:38.61 It also helps to show certain signs. 00:09:38.64\00:09:40.78 People are often wondering, "Well, how soon is Jesus going 00:09:40.81\00:09:43.38 to come?" 00:09:43.41\00:09:44.71 Well, there are certain signs that the Bible gives us, and 00:09:44.75\00:09:46.65 that's also outlined in the study guide. 00:09:46.68\00:09:48.45 We'll send it to anyone for free. 00:09:48.48\00:09:50.12 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:09:50.15\00:09:54.06 You can ask for the study guide called "The 00:09:54.09\00:09:55.46 Ultimate Deliverance." 00:09:55.49\00:09:56.86 You can dial #250 on your smartphone, and say "Bible 00:09:56.89\00:10:00.23 Answers Live," and ask for that study guide by name. 00:10:00.26\00:10:04.03 Thank you, Allen. 00:10:04.07\00:10:05.40 We've got Donna in Maryland. 00:10:05.43\00:10:06.74 Donna, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:06.77\00:10:08.50 Donna: Hello, pastors, Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross. 00:10:08.54\00:10:13.61 My question is: Why was Judas replaced with Matthias? 00:10:13.64\00:10:17.85 Does that hold any significance? 00:10:17.88\00:10:20.15 I don't recall any other disciple that was replaced. 00:10:20.18\00:10:25.09 Doug: Well, there's a difference, of course, between 00:10:25.12\00:10:26.52 disciple and apostle. 00:10:26.55\00:10:28.32 Jesus specifically chose 12 apostles. 00:10:28.36\00:10:32.09 And the number 12, of course, is a, it's a number that God had 00:10:32.13\00:10:35.23 used in the Old Testament for the leadership of his people. 00:10:35.26\00:10:40.30 And 12 is a number that--you look, for instance, in 00:10:40.34\00:10:43.34 Revelation chapter 12. 00:10:43.37\00:10:45.71 The city where the saints live is 12,000 furlongs. 00:10:45.74\00:10:50.45 It's got 12 gates, 12 foundations, a tree that has 12 00:10:50.48\00:10:55.48 kinds of fruit, 12 times a year, so the number 12. 00:10:55.52\00:10:58.42 And there's a woman that's got 12 stars above her head in 00:10:58.45\00:11:01.06 chapter 12, yeah. 00:11:01.09\00:11:03.73 And so, you've got the number 12. 00:11:03.76\00:11:06.43 And I jumped there between chapter 12 and chapter 21. 00:11:06.46\00:11:10.73 You've got--the number just constantly appears in the Bible 00:11:10.77\00:11:14.20 as a number for the leadership of God's people, the 12 tribes 00:11:14.24\00:11:17.14 in the Old Testament. 00:11:17.17\00:11:18.51 So even though ten of the tribes had been carried off to Assyria, 00:11:18.54\00:11:21.24 Christ still chose 12 apostles. 00:11:21.28\00:11:24.18 When one of them died, they wanted to fulfill that number, 00:11:24.21\00:11:28.02 and so they said, "Well, you know, we should do something to 00:11:28.05\00:11:30.39 replace Judas." 00:11:30.42\00:11:31.75 Now, it's interesting, getting the number back to 12 is 00:11:31.79\00:11:35.76 the last thing they do before the Holy Spirit is poured out. 00:11:35.79\00:11:39.29 After they vote, and they cast lots, and they pray, and 00:11:39.33\00:11:42.03 Matthias is chosen, the next verse says they are praying 00:11:42.06\00:11:45.40 together, and the Holy Spirit is poured out, mighty wind, fire, 00:11:45.43\00:11:49.54 the Pentecost happens. 00:11:49.57\00:11:51.87 When you get to Revelation, the 144,000 is 12 times 12,000, and 00:11:51.91\00:11:58.35 that number, of course, is divided by 12 many ways, and 00:11:58.38\00:12:03.55 they do a special work in the last days. 00:12:03.59\00:12:05.42 So, the number does mean something, and they felt that it 00:12:05.45\00:12:09.36 was important to replace this missing apostle who 00:12:09.39\00:12:12.73 committed suicide. 00:12:12.76\00:12:14.83 Jëan: All right, thank you, Donna, good question. 00:12:14.83\00:12:16.90 Next caller that we have is Glenn in Ohio. 00:12:16.93\00:12:19.17 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:12:19.20\00:12:22.30 Glenn: Good evening, pastors, and thank you for taking 00:12:22.34\00:12:24.77 my call. 00:12:24.81\00:12:27.11 You know, there's a situation in the Book of Revelation, where 00:12:27.14\00:12:31.81 it's called the white throne judgment. 00:12:31.85\00:12:34.98 There were the wicked or prosecuted and sent to their 00:12:35.02\00:12:39.19 final punishment. 00:12:39.22\00:12:42.12 We can understand that, but there's one that I have 00:12:42.16\00:12:45.69 difficulty understanding, and that's the situation of the mark 00:12:45.73\00:12:49.76 of the beast. 00:12:49.80\00:12:51.10 What is the purpose of the mark of the beast in the Bible? 00:12:51.13\00:12:54.54 Doug: Okay, well, the purpose behind the mark of the beast is 00:12:54.57\00:12:57.54 not something that God wills. 00:12:57.57\00:13:00.54 It's this beast power is, he's compelling the world to make an 00:13:00.58\00:13:07.75 image to this first beast that had a deadly wound by the sword 00:13:07.78\00:13:11.42 but yet comes back to life again. 00:13:11.45\00:13:13.99 And God is saying that, you know, he's compelling, not God 00:13:14.02\00:13:18.53 but the beast power, everyone to receive this mark, some mark 00:13:18.56\00:13:22.13 of recognition. 00:13:22.16\00:13:23.47 It's something they do that shows submission to the laws of 00:13:23.50\00:13:26.80 the beast as opposed to the law of God. 00:13:26.84\00:13:30.04 And the most fearful plague and punishment that you find 00:13:30.07\00:13:33.81 anywhere in the Bible is in Revelation 14, where it talks 00:13:33.84\00:13:37.15 about the wrath of God is going to be poured out on anyone that 00:13:37.18\00:13:40.98 has the mark of the beast or the number of his name, and so, we 00:13:41.02\00:13:45.39 need to know what that is, and that's why we have a lesson that 00:13:45.42\00:13:48.39 explains that. 00:13:48.42\00:13:49.66 And I sure hope, Glenn, you'll request this free lesson and 00:13:49.69\00:13:51.63 read it. 00:13:51.66\00:13:52.96 Jëan: The lesson is called "The Mark of the Beast," very 00:13:52.99\00:13:55.23 important study, and we'll send this to anyone who calls 00:13:55.26\00:13:57.60 and asks. 00:13:57.63\00:13:58.97 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:13:59.00\00:14:02.10 You can dial #250 on your smartphone and ask for that 00:14:02.14\00:14:04.94 study guide, "The Mark of the Beast," and while you're at it, 00:14:04.97\00:14:07.38 you might want to also ask for the study guide called the "Seal 00:14:07.41\00:14:09.64 of God." 00:14:09.68\00:14:11.01 There are actually two marks that you read about in the Book 00:14:11.05\00:14:12.68 of Revelation. 00:14:12.71\00:14:14.05 The righteous get the seal of God, and the wicked get the mark 00:14:14.08\00:14:16.58 of the beast, so, important study. 00:14:16.62\00:14:19.39 Thank you, Glenn. 00:14:19.42\00:14:20.72 Next caller that we have is Jet in Florida. 00:14:20.76\00:14:22.99 Jet, welcome to the program. 00:14:23.02\00:14:25.69 Jet: Hey. 00:14:25.73\00:14:27.03 Doug: Hi, how are you doing? 00:14:27.03\00:14:28.76 Jet: I'm good. 00:14:28.80\00:14:30.10 So my question is: who do you think the angel of the Lord is? 00:14:30.13\00:14:35.67 Doug: Well, it depends on what verse. 00:14:35.70\00:14:37.54 The term "angel of the Lord" can sometimes mean a regular angel 00:14:37.57\00:14:42.71 who is sent by the Lord. 00:14:42.74\00:14:45.81 Sometimes we believe the angel of the Lord is what you would 00:14:45.85\00:14:48.62 call a Christophany. 00:14:48.65\00:14:49.98 That means Jesus is appearing in the Old Testament before 00:14:50.02\00:14:53.09 His incarnation. 00:14:53.12\00:14:54.46 And the word "angel" there means the messenger of the Lord. 00:14:54.49\00:14:57.63 Now, some places you can go and you find out about that, in the 00:14:57.66\00:15:00.86 Book of Joshua, it says that this mighty warrior appears to 00:15:00.90\00:15:05.37 Joshua after the Battle of Ai, and Joshua says, "Are you 00:15:05.40\00:15:09.94 for us? 00:15:09.97\00:15:11.31 Are you for our enemies?" 00:15:11.34\00:15:12.64 And He said, "Neither." But it's commander of the armies 00:15:12.67\00:15:13.98 of the Lord. 00:15:14.01\00:15:15.34 Then He tells Joshua, "Take your shoes off your feet," same thing 00:15:15.38\00:15:18.75 that was said to Moses when Moses saw God at the 00:15:18.78\00:15:21.18 burning bush. 00:15:21.22\00:15:22.72 And so, he worships this angel. 00:15:22.75\00:15:25.75 Well, we're not supposed to worship regular angels. 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.62 And then, these angels, angelic-like beings, appeared to 00:15:28.66\00:15:32.29 Abraham, and then later, Abraham addresses one of them 00:15:32.33\00:15:35.16 as the Lord. 00:15:35.20\00:15:36.56 Jacob wrestles with an angel, and later he says, "I have 00:15:36.60\00:15:39.23 seen God." 00:15:39.27\00:15:40.97 And the Bible says, "The Lord Himself will descend from heaven 00:15:41.00\00:15:45.24 with the voice of the archangel," the Lord with 00:15:45.27\00:15:48.58 the voice of the archangel. 00:15:48.61\00:15:49.94 So, many believe several of these occasions may be the one 00:15:49.98\00:15:53.42 who appeared to Sa--Samson's parents, that these were Christ 00:15:53.45\00:15:57.82 coming before His incarnation, and they identify Him as the 00:15:57.85\00:16:01.89 Angel or Messenger of the Lord. 00:16:01.92\00:16:03.86 Now, Jesus came into our world as the Ultimate Messenger. 00:16:03.89\00:16:07.03 Jesus is not an angel, don't misunderstand, but the word 00:16:07.03\00:16:10.07 "angel" means messenger. 00:16:10.10\00:16:12.03 So there may be times when Christ appeared, His divinity 00:16:12.07\00:16:15.84 was cloaked, and He appeared as an angel, a messenger of God, in 00:16:15.87\00:16:20.38 some of the Old Testament stories. 00:16:20.41\00:16:23.41 And we have a book on "Who is Michael the Archangel?" 00:16:23.45\00:16:24.95 It talks about that. 00:16:24.98\00:16:26.68 Jëan: Oh, that's a good one, yeah, that'll explain that. 00:16:26.72\00:16:28.05 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:16:28.08\00:16:31.49 You can dial #250 on your smartphone, ask for that book. 00:16:31.52\00:16:34.79 It's called "The Angel of the Lord"--No, "Who is Michael the 00:16:34.82\00:16:37.19 Archangel--?" it talks about the angel of the Lord. 00:16:37.23\00:16:39.59 I'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:16:39.63\00:16:41.50 If you want a hard copy, call for it or you can just 00:16:41.53\00:16:44.93 dial #250 to get a digital copy of the book. 00:16:44.97\00:16:47.77 Doug: Yeah, just some free information, Jet. 00:16:47.80\00:16:49.50 I typed in "angel of the Lord" in my computer. 00:16:49.54\00:16:52.44 It appears 67 times in the Bible. 00:16:52.47\00:16:55.08 We don't believe every one of those times is talking about a 00:16:55.11\00:16:57.85 Christophany, but some of them are. 00:16:57.88\00:17:01.25 Jëan: All right, thank you. 00:17:01.28\00:17:02.62 Our next caller is John in Georgia. 00:17:02.65\00:17:04.19 John, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:17:04.22\00:17:07.59 John: Hey, how you doing? 00:17:07.62\00:17:08.96 Doug: Doing much better than we deserve. 00:17:08.99\00:17:12.69 John: Same here, same here. 00:17:12.73\00:17:14.36 So my question is about the one thing, I always say, philosophy 00:17:14.40\00:17:19.70 that a lot of the churches believe. 00:17:19.73\00:17:23.74 I had a discussion with a friend of mine, and he insists that 00:17:23.77\00:17:27.94 we're saved by grace as long as we believe that Jesus was raised 00:17:27.98\00:17:31.55 from the dead and we believe that He's the Son of God. 00:17:31.58\00:17:35.62 You'll be saved regardless of your works, and I know that's 00:17:35.65\00:17:40.26 not true. 00:17:40.29\00:17:41.59 And I'm trying to explain it to him, but it's hard because of 00:17:41.62\00:17:46.06 the verses that he, he's misinterpreted. 00:17:46.09\00:17:50.17 Doug: Yeah, you know, at the heart of that teaching, the idea 00:17:50.20\00:17:54.17 that once you're saved, you can't be lost, I think people 00:17:54.20\00:17:56.97 want security. 00:17:57.01\00:17:58.34 They're looking for security that they're saved. 00:17:58.37\00:18:01.81 All of us, even after coming to Christ, we sin, and we think, 00:18:01.84\00:18:05.41 "Oh no, I've just lost my salvation." 00:18:05.45\00:18:07.45 And so, a lot of people are concerned about that, and they 00:18:07.48\00:18:10.22 don't want to lose that sense of assurance, and so they're very 00:18:10.25\00:18:12.82 passionate about preserving the idea that once you're saved, you 00:18:12.85\00:18:15.99 can't be lost, but it's not biblical. 00:18:16.02\00:18:18.99 Now, can you have assurance of your salvation? 00:18:19.03\00:18:21.60 Yes, there's a lot of verses that tell us that if we 00:18:21.63\00:18:24.47 cooperate, God is going to finish the work He started in 00:18:24.50\00:18:26.90 our lives. 00:18:26.94\00:18:28.24 He's the Author and the Finisher of our faith, and He which has 00:18:28.27\00:18:31.64 begun a good work in you will perform it, and sin shall not 00:18:31.67\00:18:35.11 have dominion over you. 00:18:35.14\00:18:36.68 But the idea that your works are not involved, Bible says in 00:18:36.71\00:18:41.22 Revelation, "Everyone is rewarded according to 00:18:41.25\00:18:43.25 his works." 00:18:43.28\00:18:44.62 And that verse, Pastor Ross, in Revelation, where it says, "If 00:18:44.65\00:18:47.19 we don't repent, our names will be taken from the Book of Life 00:18:47.22\00:18:50.93 and/or our candlestick will be removed out of its place," 00:18:50.96\00:18:54.10 that's the first what? 00:18:54.13\00:18:55.46 Chapter 2 and 3 in the message to the churches. 00:18:55.50\00:18:58.53 This--Paul said, "Lest I preach to others, then I myself become 00:18:58.57\00:19:02.07 a castaway," Paul said, "if I continue on." And so, just this, 00:19:02.10\00:19:10.01 this--Paul said, you know, someone who is enlightened and 00:19:10.05\00:19:11.71 filled with the Holy Spirit--Peter rather, "And if 00:19:11.75\00:19:15.12 they fall away," actually that's Hebrews chapter 6, "If they fall 00:19:15.15\00:19:19.62 away, it's impossible to renew them to repentance." Jesus said, 00:19:19.65\00:19:23.06 "Every vine in Me that bears fruit, He'll prune it. 00:19:23.09\00:19:26.46 But if it doesn't bear fruit," these are vines in Him, "doesn't 00:19:26.49\00:19:30.13 bear fruit, they're cut off and thrown in the fire." 00:19:30.17\00:19:32.73 So, all through the Bible, you've got examples, everyone 00:19:32.77\00:19:35.30 from King Saul, who is filled with the Spirit of God, and yet 00:19:35.34\00:19:37.87 he grieves away the Holy Spirit, and he commits suicide. 00:19:37.91\00:19:40.08 It's just a very reckless belief to believe once you're saved, 00:19:40.11\00:19:43.88 you can't do anything to be lost. 00:19:43.91\00:19:45.95 I think our salvation, like a marriage, is something 00:19:45.98\00:19:47.98 we nurture. 00:19:48.02\00:19:49.32 Unlike a marriage, God will never leave us, but we can leave 00:19:49.35\00:19:52.19 Him, and it's important for us to understand that. 00:19:52.22\00:19:56.26 Jëan: The verse you're referring to, Revelation chapter 00:19:56.29\00:19:57.83 3, verse 5, "Speaking about those who are faithful, God will 00:19:57.86\00:20:01.30 not blot their name out of the Lamb's Book of Life." 00:20:01.33\00:20:03.87 Doug: Yeah, so we need to maintain faithfulness. 00:20:03.90\00:20:06.17 Now, we have a free book that talks about this, has a lot more 00:20:06.20\00:20:09.17 verses, and we can share in a few minutes, and it's called 00:20:09.20\00:20:12.27 "Can a Saved Man Choose to Be Lost?" 00:20:12.31\00:20:14.84 Jëan: And the number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:20:14.88\00:20:18.48 You can just ask for the book by name, "Can a Saved Man Choose 00:20:18.51\00:20:21.45 to Be Lost?" 00:20:21.48\00:20:22.78 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and ask for the book 00:20:22.82\00:20:26.25 that way. 00:20:26.29\00:20:27.59 You can get a digital download, read it, and then share it to 00:20:27.62\00:20:29.62 somebody else. 00:20:29.66\00:20:30.99 Our next call is Anna, listening in Oregon. 00:20:31.03\00:20:32.76 Anna, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:20:32.79\00:20:36.13 Anna: Evening, pastors. 00:20:36.16\00:20:37.53 Doug: Good evening, thanks for calling. 00:20:37.57\00:20:39.67 Anna: My question is: how can I know what my spiritual gifts 00:20:39.70\00:20:45.77 are from God? 00:20:45.81\00:20:47.44 Doug: Good question, practical question. 00:20:47.48\00:20:49.64 First of all, how long have you been a Christian? 00:20:49.68\00:20:54.18 Anna: My whole life. 00:20:54.22\00:20:55.55 Doug: Well, now, you--nobody--I know, I know what you mean. 00:20:55.58\00:20:57.42 You were probably raised a Christian, but there, there's 00:20:57.45\00:21:00.16 some point in your life where you say, "Yes, I'm going to make 00:21:00.19\00:21:03.09 this my own religion, and I want to surrender my life to the 00:21:03.12\00:21:06.09 Lord," and maybe you are baptized. 00:21:06.13\00:21:09.16 And how long has that been? 00:21:09.20\00:21:13.13 Anna: Not too long. 00:21:13.17\00:21:14.47 Doug: Okay, a lot of the spiritual gifts that I think I'm 00:21:14.50\00:21:18.94 using now, I didn't even know I had until after I'd come to 00:21:18.97\00:21:22.78 the Lord, and it didn't all happen at once. 00:21:22.81\00:21:25.21 So, once you surrender to the Lord, He begin--and He begins 00:21:25.25\00:21:29.98 to develop certain spiritual gifts in you. 00:21:30.02\00:21:31.72 Now, some people may have the gift of music and then they 00:21:31.75\00:21:34.06 dedicate that to the Lord, and now they're singing for the Lord 00:21:34.09\00:21:37.19 instead of the devil, so those are kind of obvious. 00:21:37.23\00:21:40.10 But you might find some good Christian friends, and say--they 00:21:40.13\00:21:43.53 know you, and say, "What do you think my spiritual gifts are?" 00:21:43.57\00:21:46.23 They'll say, "Oh, you don't know? 00:21:46.27\00:21:47.57 It's easy to tell, your gift is a gift of hospitality." 00:21:47.60\00:21:50.87 And someone else might say, "You know, you've got the gift of 00:21:50.91\00:21:53.84 organization." And someone else might say, "You've got the gift 00:21:53.88\00:21:56.14 of music," or whatever it is. 00:21:56.18\00:21:58.65 You know, some people have got gifts of teaching, and so, 00:21:58.68\00:22:04.62 talking to Christian counsel, to mature Christians that know you, 00:22:04.65\00:22:08.42 that's one way, praying that God reveals it. 00:22:08.46\00:22:10.93 He will also show you what your gifts are. 00:22:10.96\00:22:13.83 And then there'll be passions that God gives you, meaning 00:22:13.86\00:22:17.03 there's something you're excited about, something you love to do, 00:22:17.07\00:22:20.37 and assuming it's something good, that often develops into 00:22:20.40\00:22:23.71 a spiritual gift. 00:22:23.74\00:22:25.51 And it tells us in Psalm 37, "He gives us the desires of 00:22:25.54\00:22:28.88 our heart." 00:22:28.91\00:22:30.25 I think God puts spiritual gifts in us, then He gives us a desire 00:22:30.28\00:22:32.91 to fulfill it. 00:22:32.95\00:22:34.62 I don't think God put Adam in a garden and had garden--Adam 00:22:34.65\00:22:37.35 hate gardening. 00:22:37.39\00:22:38.75 He probably loved it. 00:22:38.79\00:22:41.49 So, I hope that helps, Anna. 00:22:41.52\00:22:43.02 You know, we need a book on spiritual gifts, I don't think 00:22:43.06\00:22:44.96 we have one. 00:22:44.99\00:22:46.29 Jëan: You know, we do have the book called-- 00:22:46.33\00:22:47.66 Doug: "Life in the Spirit?" 00:22:47.73\00:22:49.00 Jëan: Well, "Knowing the--God's Will?" 00:22:49.03\00:22:51.97 Doug: Yeah, "How to Know the Will of God," that's good. 00:22:52.00\00:22:53.60 Jëan: Yeah, kind of deals with that too. 00:22:53.64\00:22:55.44 Number to call is 800-835-6747, you can call and ask for the 00:22:55.47\00:22:59.57 book, "How to Know the Will of God." 00:22:59.61\00:23:01.48 And dial #250 on your smartphone, you can get the book 00:23:01.51\00:23:05.11 that way as well. 00:23:05.15\00:23:06.75 Natasha in Nebraska. 00:23:06.78\00:23:08.12 Natasha, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:23:08.15\00:23:10.32 Natasha: Hello, and thank you. 00:23:10.35\00:23:13.52 Okay, yeah, thank you for taking my call. 00:23:13.56\00:23:15.96 So, my question, it stems from my morning devotion that I had 00:23:15.99\00:23:20.36 today about the Holy Spirit, and I'm curious why do verses like 00:23:20.40\00:23:24.73 Philippians chapter 1, verse 2 and Ephesians chapter 1, verse 00:23:24.77\00:23:28.70 2, they mention God the Father, they mention God the Son, but 00:23:28.74\00:23:33.11 then the Holy Spirit is left out, and I know He's the third 00:23:33.14\00:23:35.38 member of the Godhead, but I'm curious why He was left out. 00:23:35.41\00:23:39.81 Doug: Yeah, well, just keep in mind, you'll has many passage 00:23:39.85\00:23:43.85 in in the Bible that will just mention God, then you have 00:23:43.89\00:23:48.26 passages that will mention God the Father and God the Son, then 00:23:48.29\00:23:51.86 you have passages that mention all three. 00:23:51.89\00:23:54.66 So, I want to build a doctrine out of wondering why two are 00:23:54.73\00:23:58.80 left out in some passages and one is left out in one passage. 00:23:58.83\00:24:03.91 The Holy Spirit, the disciples understood, was omnipresent, 00:24:03.94\00:24:08.64 always involved, always doing the will of the Father and 00:24:08.68\00:24:12.41 the Son, and so the work of the Spirit is a little different. 00:24:12.45\00:24:18.05 So, I don't know why some are mentioned at some point and 00:24:18.09\00:24:21.89 others at, at other points. 00:24:21.92\00:24:24.56 You know, one of the last things it says in the Bible, it says, 00:24:24.59\00:24:26.80 "The spirit and the bride say, come." 00:24:26.83\00:24:29.46 And, you know, the end of the Bible, it says, "Even so, come, 00:24:29.50\00:24:32.30 Lord Jesus." 00:24:32.33\00:24:33.67 There are places where it mentions Jesus and the Spirit 00:24:33.70\00:24:35.47 and not the Father. 00:24:35.50\00:24:37.47 You see what I'm saying? 00:24:37.51\00:24:38.84 So, I--it is interesting how the different Bible writers will 00:24:38.87\00:24:44.48 highlight, you know, one member of the Godhead, or two, or 00:24:44.51\00:24:48.08 three, and why they do it. 00:24:48.12\00:24:50.09 They do it, probably the context of the book. 00:24:50.12\00:24:53.66 Jëan: You know, it's interesting, when you read 00:24:53.69\00:24:55.02 the first chapter of Revelation and it lists the Father and the 00:24:55.06\00:24:58.46 seven spirits, meaning the Holy Spirit, and then Jesus. 00:24:58.49\00:25:02.20 So, it's a little different, the order that we have. 00:25:02.23\00:25:04.63 Instead of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, it's the Father, 00:25:04.67\00:25:07.27 the Spirit, and then Jesus. 00:25:07.30\00:25:08.87 But if you read it, John gives a greeting from the Father and 00:25:08.90\00:25:12.97 from the Holy Spirit, but when it comes to Jesus, then he goes 00:25:13.01\00:25:15.38 on and he says, "The one who washed us from our sins and made 00:25:15.41\00:25:17.78 us kings and priests." He has a lot more to say, so depending 00:25:17.81\00:25:21.52 upon what the emphasis was that the writer was trying to 00:25:21.55\00:25:24.19 bring to view, that would probably affect the order and 00:25:24.22\00:25:28.19 the style that they would write those different referencing 00:25:28.22\00:25:30.46 the Godhead. 00:25:30.49\00:25:31.83 Doug: In the Books Ephesians and Philippians, Paul is writing to 00:25:31.86\00:25:33.53 churches that are new. 00:25:33.56\00:25:34.96 They had no problem believing in the Spirit. 00:25:35.00\00:25:36.77 They are problems believing in Jesus as the Son of God, and so 00:25:36.80\00:25:39.77 he's spending more time emphasizing that truth for these 00:25:39.80\00:25:43.14 particular churches. 00:25:43.17\00:25:44.47 So, that may also have something to do with it, but 00:25:44.51\00:25:48.14 good question. 00:25:48.18\00:25:49.41 Jëan: You know, we do have a book, we mentioned it earlier. 00:25:49.44\00:25:51.11 It might be good to go along with the subject. 00:25:51.15\00:25:53.08 It's called--well, two books. 00:25:53.11\00:25:54.78 We have "Life in the Spirit." 00:25:54.82\00:25:56.25 That's one of the books that talk about the Holy Spirit. 00:25:56.28\00:25:58.95 But "The Trinity: Is It Biblical?" 00:25:58.99\00:26:00.72 is another book. 00:26:00.76\00:26:02.09 And we can send you both of those if you call and ask, the 00:26:02.12\00:26:04.66 number is 800-835-6747, and ask for it, "The Trinity: Is 00:26:04.69\00:26:10.47 It Biblical?" 00:26:10.50\00:26:11.80 Or just dial #250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:26:11.83\00:26:15.47 Live," and then you can ask for the book by name, the book about 00:26:15.50\00:26:18.11 the Trinity. 00:26:18.14\00:26:19.47 Well, Pastor Doug, I'm looking at the clock, we might not have 00:26:19.51\00:26:21.28 time to take another caller just before our break. 00:26:21.31\00:26:23.68 Doug: One more thought, I--while we're talking about the, the 00:26:23.71\00:26:26.38 Holy Spirit, and Father, and the Son, it just occurred to me that 00:26:26.41\00:26:29.78 the last four books--verses in the Bible talk about the Spirit, 00:26:29.82\00:26:34.52 talk about God, talk about Jesus, and they're all, they 00:26:34.56\00:26:37.76 have their own verses. 00:26:37.79\00:26:39.03 So, you know, the, there's some churches that are struggling or 00:26:39.06\00:26:43.40 some people that are struggling with "is the Holy Spirit God?" 00:26:43.43\00:26:46.80 But right from the very beginning of the Bible, where it 00:26:46.84\00:26:49.00 tells us, "The Spirit of God moved on the face of the water" 00:26:49.04\00:26:51.91 to the very end, where it says, "The spirit and the bride say, 00:26:51.94\00:26:54.38 come, take the water of life freely," you see the Spirit of 00:26:54.41\00:26:57.18 God moving all through the Bible, and it's, I think, a very 00:26:57.21\00:27:01.88 clear teaching that God--there's this triune God. 00:27:01.92\00:27:05.99 God said, "Let us make man in our image." 00:27:06.02\00:27:08.79 And the Holy Spirit is something that fills us, and--or I should 00:27:08.82\00:27:12.73 say "He fills us" just as God the Father, and the Son do. 00:27:12.76\00:27:15.83 Hey, friends, we're going to take a brief break. 00:27:15.86\00:27:18.00 I wanna always remind people about halftime. 00:27:18.03\00:27:20.27 Check out the Amazing Facts boarding schools. 00:28:14.69\00:28:17.73 Most of these schools told me that there was no purpose 00:28:17.76\00:28:20.03 in life. 00:28:20.06\00:28:21.33 And I saw in my home, people were not very happy, and I would 00:28:21.36\00:28:25.43 think about suicide. 00:28:25.47\00:28:26.84 Sharing a personal testimony can be one of the most powerful ways 00:28:26.87\00:28:30.41 to win souls to or 800-463-7297, and my name is Doug Batchelor. 00:31:54.31\00:32:02.18 Jëan: My name is Jëan Ross, and we've got some folks who have 00:32:02.22\00:32:04.75 emailed their Bible questions to us, and if you'd like to do 00:32:04.79\00:32:07.52 that, the email address is BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:32:07.56\00:32:13.09 So James is asking, Pastor Doug, "Can you talk about the rich man 00:32:13.13\00:32:16.20 and Lazarus? 00:32:16.23\00:32:17.57 Is this relating to the fate of the wicked in the lake of fire? 00:32:17.60\00:32:20.67 Doug: Yes and no, in that there is a lake of fire. 00:32:20.70\00:32:23.81 It's not reflecting the timing. 00:32:23.84\00:32:25.77 Jesus is telling a parable, and this is in a group of parables, 00:32:25.81\00:32:30.11 so some people think that this parable means that as soon as 00:32:30.15\00:32:32.85 a person dies, the saved are carried by the angels to 00:32:32.88\00:32:35.85 Abraham's bosom, well, nothing else says that in the Bible, and 00:32:35.88\00:32:39.59 don't ever build a doctrine on one verse, you need two or three 00:32:39.62\00:32:42.16 witnesses, and that a person dies, and then they go to 00:32:42.19\00:32:45.33 a place called Hades, where they can talk to the people 00:32:45.36\00:32:48.90 in heaven. 00:32:48.93\00:32:50.30 Well, that'd be horrible to think that the people in heaven 00:32:50.33\00:32:53.03 could talk to the people in hell or that you could even--the 00:32:53.07\00:32:56.64 people in heaven could see the people in hell. 00:32:56.67\00:32:59.61 And so, the purpose of this parable, Jesus is basically 00:32:59.64\00:33:03.38 using a paradox. 00:33:03.41\00:33:04.91 He's speaking to the Jewish nation, who was rich in truth 00:33:04.95\00:33:08.15 and feasting on truth, while the Gentiles, they are the beggars, 00:33:08.18\00:33:11.79 were at their gates desiring the truth that fell from 00:33:11.82\00:33:14.12 their tables. 00:33:14.16\00:33:15.46 So they both die, and it so happens that the poor Gentile 00:33:15.49\00:33:19.06 beggar, Lazarus, he goes to the Jewish place of reward, 00:33:19.09\00:33:22.76 Abraham's bosom. 00:33:22.80\00:33:24.10 All the Jews wanted to be with Abraham. 00:33:24.13\00:33:26.47 But the rich Jewish man, he goes to the Greek place of 00:33:26.50\00:33:29.94 punishment, which is Hades. 00:33:29.97\00:33:32.11 It's--there's, you know, there's no Pluto, god of Hades, and 00:33:32.14\00:33:34.98 there's no hounds of hell. 00:33:35.01\00:33:36.34 That's all mythology. 00:33:36.38\00:33:37.68 But everybody knew the stories back then. 00:33:37.71\00:33:39.15 Like, if we should say "Alice in Wonderland," everyone knows 00:33:39.18\00:33:41.82 you're telling an illustration. 00:33:41.85\00:33:44.09 And so Christ is just illustrating there's going to be 00:33:44.12\00:33:46.25 a big reversal, and that it'll be too late, then, 00:33:46.29\00:33:49.56 to change sides. 00:33:49.59\00:33:50.93 The rich man says, "Oh, you know, if Abraham could--or if 00:33:50.96\00:33:53.16 Lazarus could dip his finger and touch my tongue." 00:33:53.19\00:33:56.50 And Abraham says, "There's a great gulf fixed." 00:33:56.53\00:34:00.70 Once you're lost, probation is closed. 00:34:00.74\00:34:03.34 Jesus is saying that if you don't care enough to share 00:34:03.37\00:34:06.34 the truth with people that are starving at your gates, you 00:34:06.37\00:34:09.34 might find that they love the truth, they're in the kingdom. 00:34:09.38\00:34:11.71 You've not, you've not valued the truth, and you're going to 00:34:11.75\00:34:15.22 end up on the outside. 00:34:15.25\00:34:17.75 Luke spends a lot of time, and this parable is only in Luke, 00:34:17.79\00:34:20.79 Luke spends a lot of time explaining that the gospel 00:34:20.82\00:34:23.36 should go to the Gentiles because Luke was a Gentile, 00:34:23.39\00:34:26.73 probably the only Gentile New Testament writer. 00:34:26.76\00:34:29.76 Jëan: Good answer. 00:34:29.80\00:34:31.13 All right, Shelley's asking, "How did Satan know Adam and Eve 00:34:31.17\00:34:33.77 were on the earth, and why was he allowed 00:34:33.80\00:34:36.27 in the Garden of Eden?" 00:34:36.30\00:34:38.01 Doug: Well, Satan, I think, had a pretty vast 00:34:38.04\00:34:40.81 knowledge, because he was the number one creation of God, and 00:34:40.84\00:34:45.58 whenever God created anything, these angels were ministering 00:34:45.61\00:34:48.65 spirits that would guard and, and--maybe not guard from 00:34:48.68\00:34:51.75 danger, but they would provide for and minister to all 00:34:51.79\00:34:55.92 the creatures. 00:34:55.96\00:34:57.29 So Satan, he was Lucifer at one point, he knew about God making 00:34:57.33\00:35:01.73 it a whole world with creatures in His own image, was not 00:35:01.76\00:35:05.73 anything that could be hidden, and He really resented that God 00:35:05.77\00:35:10.77 intended to replace the, the angels that had been cast out 00:35:10.81\00:35:15.78 with these creatures made in God's image, and he went after 00:35:15.81\00:35:19.58 them in a special way. 00:35:19.61\00:35:21.65 Jëan: All right, last question, email question that's coming, 00:35:21.68\00:35:24.45 "Why did God allow the Egyptians to be part of the Exodus 00:35:24.49\00:35:27.32 from Egypt? 00:35:27.36\00:35:28.66 They just seemed to cause problems." 00:35:28.69\00:35:29.99 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, 00:35:30.03\00:35:31.73 that just goes to show that God is a merciful God, and 00:35:31.76\00:35:34.36 when the Israelite slaves were escaping, many of the Egyptian 00:35:34.40\00:35:38.40 slaves were saying--they called them the mixed multitude, 00:35:38.43\00:35:41.50 because they weren't just Egyptians. 00:35:41.54\00:35:42.87 They, they could have been Edomites, Ammonites. 00:35:42.90\00:35:45.41 They could have been people from Libya and all different parts of 00:35:45.44\00:35:48.58 the, the Mideast world there, and they wanted to take 00:35:48.61\00:35:52.91 advantage of that time and escape with the Israelites while 00:35:52.95\00:35:55.48 the going was good. 00:35:55.52\00:35:56.75 So God was merciful, He let them tag along, but because they did 00:35:56.79\00:36:00.49 not worship Jehovah and they tried to mix in their pagan 00:36:00.52\00:36:04.16 beliefs with the worship of Jehovah, they often did a lot of 00:36:04.19\00:36:07.46 the murmuring, complaining, and problem-causing. 00:36:07.50\00:36:11.00 Doug: All right, very good. 00:36:11.03\00:36:12.37 Well, again, thank you for your email questions. 00:36:12.40\00:36:13.80 If you want to send us an email question, 00:36:13.84\00:36:15.20 it's BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:36:15.24\00:36:19.21 Back to the phone lines, we got Joshua in California. 00:36:19.24\00:36:21.81 Joshua, welcome to the program. 00:36:21.84\00:36:24.28 Joshua: Quick question on ya--for ya, rather. 00:36:24.31\00:36:26.75 Revelation chapter 17, verse 16, what's going on there? 00:36:26.78\00:36:32.79 Doug: Okay, let me read this for our friends that are listening. 00:36:32.82\00:36:34.92 A lot of folks are driving down the road listening 00:36:34.96\00:36:36.93 on satellite radio. 00:36:36.96\00:36:38.56 And it says, "The ten horns that you saw, 00:36:38.59\00:36:41.53 they and the beast will hate the prostitute. 00:36:41.56\00:36:44.77 They will make her desolate and naked, 00:36:44.80\00:36:47.30 and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire." 00:36:47.34\00:36:49.64 This is basically saying, now, in in the beginning 00:36:49.67\00:36:53.24 of chapter 17, you've got this woman, 00:36:53.27\00:36:55.51 she's the prostitute, the harlot, Babylon. 00:36:55.54\00:36:57.61 She's sitting on the beast. 00:36:57.65\00:36:59.45 She's controlling, manipulating. 00:36:59.48\00:37:00.98 She commits adultery with the kings of the earth. 00:37:01.02\00:37:03.82 It's talking about a woman as a church. 00:37:03.85\00:37:05.89 Kings of the earth are political. 00:37:05.92\00:37:07.62 It's talking about the church-state corruption. 00:37:07.66\00:37:11.59 They get involved in supporting each other, and in the end, they 00:37:11.63\00:37:15.66 are going to turn on her. 00:37:15.70\00:37:16.93 Now that's not the first time it's happened in history, but 00:37:16.97\00:37:19.20 it'll happen in a big way in the end of time. 00:37:19.23\00:37:21.74 During the French Revolution, the French became exasperated 00:37:21.77\00:37:25.21 with the meddling of the church in France, and they killed many 00:37:25.24\00:37:29.84 priests and basically demoted them or kicked them out of 00:37:29.88\00:37:32.85 the country. 00:37:32.88\00:37:34.22 Well, this is going to happen on a much grander scale just before 00:37:34.25\00:37:37.39 the Second Coming, where the kingdoms that have been in 00:37:37.42\00:37:43.19 conspiracy, they've been in cahoots and accomplices of 00:37:43.22\00:37:46.29 the beast power, are going to turn on each other. 00:37:46.33\00:37:50.00 And it says they're going to "devour her flesh." 00:37:50.03\00:37:52.03 Darkness is on the seat of the beast. 00:37:52.07\00:37:54.14 That is one of the plagues. 00:37:54.17\00:37:56.04 And so, this is just talking about the final war where they, 00:37:56.07\00:38:00.14 they sort of turn in on themselves and self-destruct. 00:38:00.18\00:38:02.94 You see this happening in a battle in the Old Testament, 00:38:02.98\00:38:06.61 whatever you see in Revelation, you'll see somewhere in the Old 00:38:06.65\00:38:08.85 Testament, where Jehoshaphat goes out against this 00:38:08.88\00:38:12.12 threefold alliance. 00:38:12.15\00:38:14.02 In Revelation, you've got the beast, the dragon, 00:38:14.06\00:38:16.06 the false prophet. 00:38:16.09\00:38:17.43 Jehoshaphat goes out against Edom, Moab, and Amon. 00:38:17.46\00:38:20.23 They were neighbors of Israel that turned on them. 00:38:20.26\00:38:23.20 Well, when it came time for the battle, Jehoshaphat and 00:38:23.23\00:38:26.63 the priest, they just prayed and they sang. 00:38:26.67\00:38:28.70 And it says the Ammonites, Edomites, and Moabites turned on 00:38:28.74\00:38:31.51 one another, and they basically self-destructed. 00:38:31.54\00:38:34.41 When the Israelites got there, there wasn't one left alive. 00:38:34.44\00:38:38.98 So, yeah, that's what's going to happen. 00:38:39.01\00:38:41.92 Jëan: You know, we do have a study guide that talks 00:38:41.95\00:38:43.75 about Babylon, and that's the name of this woman described 00:38:43.79\00:38:47.52 in Revelation. 00:38:47.56\00:38:48.86 Of course, a woman represents the church. 00:38:48.89\00:38:50.23 And you can learn a lot more about that. 00:38:50.26\00:38:51.83 It's called "The 'Other' Woman," and we'll send it to anyone who 00:38:51.86\00:38:54.40 calls and asks. 00:38:54.46\00:38:55.76 The number is 800-835-6747, or you can dial #250 on your 00:38:55.80\00:39:00.74 smartphone and say, "Bible Answers Live." 00:39:00.77\00:39:03.07 Ask for the study guide. 00:39:03.10\00:39:04.41 It's called "The Other Woman," Revelation 17. 00:39:04.44\00:39:07.24 Gerald in Michigan. 00:39:07.28\00:39:08.61 Gerald, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:39:08.64\00:39:10.58 Gerald: Hey, Pastor, okay, over in New Jersey and now they're 00:39:10.61\00:39:14.38 saying from the West Coast to the East Coast, they're seeing 00:39:14.42\00:39:18.09 drones, but also these spheres, and these spheres, are 00:39:18.12\00:39:24.16 they--could they be biblical and related to the last days of 00:39:24.19\00:39:28.76 the signs and wonders, such as Joel talks about in chapter 2? 00:39:28.80\00:39:33.17 Doug: It could be, yeah, well, and it talks about--and 00:39:33.20\00:39:37.17 Jesus also says there'll be signs in the sun, 00:39:37.21\00:39:39.54 and the moon, and the stars. 00:39:39.57\00:39:41.11 I come at this from a different perspective. 00:39:41.14\00:39:43.88 I'm a pilot, and my dad was a pilot, and my brother was 00:39:43.91\00:39:48.95 a pilot, and we spent a lot of time flying. 00:39:48.98\00:39:51.69 And some of these things that they're showing on the news, I'm 00:39:51.72\00:39:53.86 looking at it, and I'm going, "That is an aircraft." 00:39:53.89\00:39:57.49 It's at a distance, and it looks close, and the, the temperature, 00:39:57.53\00:40:00.56 and the sky, and the humidity can all create an illusion of 00:40:00.60\00:40:03.97 things being closer. 00:40:04.00\00:40:05.33 So some of these are just aircraft that they just 00:40:05.37\00:40:07.30 don't understand. 00:40:07.34\00:40:08.64 Some of them are drones, and I've got a lot of friends, 00:40:08.67\00:40:10.41 we use drones in our media production. 00:40:10.44\00:40:11.91 You can buy--anyone can buy a drone now. 00:40:11.94\00:40:14.41 And more sophisticated drones, you're actually supposed to have 00:40:14.44\00:40:17.68 a license for a production drone, but a lot of people are 00:40:17.71\00:40:20.08 buying them, and they have no license. 00:40:20.12\00:40:22.12 And they got the flashing lights. 00:40:22.15\00:40:23.49 I mean, if I was spying, I'd turn off the flashing lights. 00:40:23.52\00:40:26.49 So, I'm not worried about anyone spying, because why would the 00:40:26.52\00:40:30.89 spies fly the drones with the red and green flashing lights 00:40:30.93\00:40:33.36 on them? 00:40:33.40\00:40:34.86 So, are people flying drones? 00:40:34.93\00:40:36.53 Yeah, there's drones flying everywhere right now. 00:40:36.56\00:40:39.23 Sometimes we hear them. 00:40:39.27\00:40:41.54 It sounds like a swarm of bees overhead, because they're doing 00:40:41.57\00:40:44.27 the "geee." You hear all those fans going up in the sky, and we 00:40:44.31\00:40:47.34 see drones flying around. 00:40:47.38\00:40:48.84 So, a lot of people are flying drones. 00:40:48.88\00:40:51.05 Are they all for nefarious purposes? 00:40:51.08\00:40:53.18 Not necessarily. 00:40:53.21\00:40:54.95 Could it be some of its satanic? 00:40:54.98\00:40:57.45 Could be, the devil can use, you know, Satan can have, what do 00:40:57.49\00:41:04.19 you call it, appears an angel of light. 00:41:04.23\00:41:06.63 Satan could try and deceive people into thinking that 00:41:06.66\00:41:09.03 messages are coming from outer space. 00:41:09.06\00:41:11.10 So that wouldn't surprise me. 00:41:11.13\00:41:13.97 All--everything happening now, I think, is a sign of the 00:41:14.00\00:41:15.54 last days. 00:41:15.57\00:41:16.87 I think AI is a sign of the last days. 00:41:16.91\00:41:19.04 So, that's a meandering answer, but, yeah, tune into the sermon 00:41:19.07\00:41:23.18 next week. 00:41:23.21\00:41:24.55 I'm going to be talking about UFOs and drones. 00:41:24.58\00:41:26.82 Jëan: All right, Kimberly in Canada. 00:41:26.85\00:41:28.62 Kimberly, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:41:28.65\00:41:30.89 Kimberly: Hi Pastor, I have been dying to get this question off 00:41:30.92\00:41:33.82 my chest. 00:41:33.86\00:41:35.29 Doug: Well, don't die. 00:41:35.32\00:41:36.62 Well, hopefully we can help ya. 00:41:36.66\00:41:39.19 Kimberly: The other night, I had YouTube on and Genesis came on 00:41:39.23\00:41:42.50 on an audio roll. 00:41:42.53\00:41:44.50 So I'm listening, "And on the sixth day, let us make mankind 00:41:44.53\00:41:48.44 in our image," okay, got that. 00:41:48.47\00:41:51.07 Then I'm wandering around doing this. 00:41:51.11\00:41:52.47 Chapter 2: "Then he made Adam and blew life into Adam." 00:41:52.51\00:41:57.38 I'm going, "Wait a second, mankind, then you made Adam?" 00:41:57.41\00:42:03.18 So, and that would explain why Cain didn't want to leave, 00:42:03.22\00:42:06.35 because they said they'd kill him, and then he built all these 00:42:06.39\00:42:08.56 cities and took a wife. 00:42:08.59\00:42:10.89 I'm confused. 00:42:10.93\00:42:12.26 Doug: All right, I'll help you a little bit with that. 00:42:12.29\00:42:16.40 Just keep in mind that the Jewish writers, of course, 00:42:16.43\00:42:19.77 the Bible is written largely by Jews, they often use what 00:42:19.80\00:42:23.54 newspapers use today, where you start out with a headline, then 00:42:23.57\00:42:26.94 you back up and give more detail. 00:42:26.98\00:42:28.38 You find that in Revelation, a lot of the Bible stories. 00:42:28.41\00:42:32.31 Chapter one is the headline: "In the beginning, God creates the 00:42:32.35\00:42:34.88 heaven, the earth." It tells the days of Creation, "God made man 00:42:34.92\00:42:37.59 on the sixth day." 00:42:37.62\00:42:38.99 Soon, it backs up and it says, now, basically saying when God 00:42:39.02\00:42:42.06 made Adam, and then it tells you about, also, how Adam named 00:42:42.09\00:42:45.19 his wife. 00:42:45.23\00:42:46.56 It's just backing up and giving you more detail on the outline 00:42:46.59\00:42:50.93 to the chapter, and that's a writing technique that's used by 00:42:50.97\00:42:54.84 a lot of authors. 00:42:54.87\00:42:56.20 They sort of give what you call the headlines, a sweeping 00:42:56.24\00:42:58.21 overview of the story. 00:42:58.24\00:42:59.64 Then they'll back them, and they'll fill in the details. 00:42:59.67\00:43:02.24 Now, Cain, when it says he took his wife, you read in chapter 5 00:43:02.28\00:43:05.88 that Adam and Eve had sons and daughters, and there was nothing 00:43:05.91\00:43:09.05 wrong with marrying your sister back then. 00:43:09.08\00:43:11.02 Cain took one of his sisters, and Adam technically married his 00:43:11.05\00:43:14.69 sister, you could argue, because they had the same Father 00:43:14.72\00:43:17.36 in heaven. 00:43:17.39\00:43:18.69 So, yeah, some people say there's two separate Creations 00:43:18.73\00:43:21.86 happening here, but no, they're just--the Hebrew writers, it 00:43:21.90\00:43:25.20 often gives a big picture, then it backs up and gives 00:43:25.23\00:43:27.84 the detail. 00:43:27.87\00:43:29.20 For example, in chapter 6, it says, "Wickedness filled the 00:43:29.24\00:43:31.71 earth," when the sons of God came to the daughters of men. 00:43:31.74\00:43:35.44 Then it backs up and says, "But Noah found grace in the eyes of 00:43:35.48\00:43:37.51 the Lord," and it starts telling the Noah--the story of Noah. 00:43:37.55\00:43:41.02 But, yeah, you find that happening many times, where it 00:43:41.05\00:43:44.95 gives a big picture, headlines, back up, details. 00:43:44.99\00:43:48.49 Jëan: Yeah, especially when you get to prophetic books, like 00:43:48.52\00:43:50.53 Revelation in particular. 00:43:50.56\00:43:51.86 It's not always written in chronological order, and it's 00:43:51.89\00:43:54.46 even true of some of the historical books, as Pastor Doug 00:43:54.46\00:43:56.53 mentioned, that gives the big picture and then fills in 00:43:56.56\00:43:59.20 the details. 00:43:59.23\00:44:00.54 And so, you got to kind of bear that in mind as you read through 00:44:00.57\00:44:03.61 and study these various passages. 00:44:03.64\00:44:06.17 All right, thank you, Kimberly. 00:44:06.21\00:44:07.51 We've got Matthew in Tennessee. 00:44:07.54\00:44:08.84 Matthew, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:44:08.88\00:44:10.55 Matthew: Hey guys, thanks for taking my call. 00:44:10.58\00:44:12.25 The question is: if all the wicked perish prior to the 00:44:12.28\00:44:15.12 millennial reign of Christ and all those 00:44:15.15\00:44:17.02 in Christ are raised incorruptible, who are these in 00:44:17.05\00:44:20.52 Isaiah 65:20 that continue to see death? 00:44:20.56\00:44:25.23 Doug: Are you talking about when it says, "The wicked will die 00:44:25.26\00:44:27.46 a hundred years old?" 00:44:27.50\00:44:29.73 Matthew: Yes. 00:44:29.76\00:44:31.17 Doug: Well, actually, the word there, "die," doesn't mean die. 00:44:31.20\00:44:35.14 The word "die" there means cease. 00:44:35.17\00:44:37.31 Well, I think it says a child will--won't even cease until 00:44:37.34\00:44:41.71 it's a hundred years old. 00:44:41.74\00:44:43.04 I'm actually misquoting it, so I need to go to Isaiah 65. 00:44:43.08\00:44:44.98 Jëan: Yeah, let me read it, I have it here. 00:44:45.01\00:44:46.51 It says, "No more shall an infant from there live but a few 00:44:46.55\00:44:50.09 days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; for a child 00:44:50.12\00:44:54.49 shall die one hundred years old, but the sin of being a hundred 00:44:54.52\00:44:57.86 years old shall be accursed." Doug: Yeah. 00:44:57.89\00:45:00.70 So, he's basically saying there, when it says "a child will die 00:45:00.73\00:45:03.33 a hundred years old," use the word "cease." 00:45:03.37\00:45:06.67 It means a child will not even cease being a child until 00:45:06.70\00:45:11.67 they're a hundred years old. 00:45:11.71\00:45:13.17 Now, that's easier to understand when you look in Genesis, and 00:45:13.21\00:45:16.98 you see that some of the early patriarchs, they lived 00:45:17.01\00:45:19.08 900 years. 00:45:19.11\00:45:20.42 They did not even get married till they're a hundred. 00:45:20.45\00:45:22.45 Of course, Abraham got married after a hundred and had 00:45:22.48\00:45:24.52 more children. 00:45:24.55\00:45:25.79 They lived longer, and--what, Isaac lived 180 years, Abraham 00:45:25.82\00:45:30.06 175 years, Jacob 145 years, Joseph 110 years. 00:45:30.09\00:45:35.83 Then you get down to David, and he lived 70 years. 00:45:35.86\00:45:38.60 And now we're living at what they call three score and ten. 00:45:38.63\00:45:41.04 You know, you average of 70, 80 years and with a few 00:45:41.07\00:45:45.61 rare exceptions. 00:45:45.64\00:45:46.94 We have one of our members had his 101st birthday 00:45:46.98\00:45:48.64 today actually. 00:45:48.68\00:45:49.91 We celebrated yesterday, but he turned 101, and he was at church 00:45:49.94\00:45:53.35 enjoying the the program. 00:45:53.38\00:45:55.55 So that word "death," and no one's going to die in heaven. 00:45:55.58\00:45:58.79 Yeah, no more death in Revelation 21. 00:45:58.82\00:46:01.82 Isaiah is using poetic language. 00:46:01.86\00:46:03.99 Jëan: Okay, next caller that we have is Leonard in Washington. 00:46:04.03\00:46:06.73 Leonard, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:46:06.76\00:46:08.96 Leonard: Yes, thanks for taking my call, Doug and Jean. 00:46:09.00\00:46:13.90 In Leviticus 16, it talks about two goats in verse 8, and 9, and 00:46:13.94\00:46:19.51 15, and then 21, and 22, and I'm wondering, is Satan 00:46:19.54\00:46:24.28 the scapegoat? 00:46:24.31\00:46:25.65 And if he is, does he have to pay the penalty for the sins of 00:46:25.68\00:46:29.65 all the people who go to heaven? 00:46:29.68\00:46:32.39 Doug: Well, you get two goats here in Leviticus when it talks 00:46:32.42\00:46:35.49 about the Day of Atonement. 00:46:35.52\00:46:36.93 One is called the Lord's goat, so we don't have to guess what 00:46:36.96\00:46:40.73 that goat represents. 00:46:40.76\00:46:42.43 That goat dies, and its blood is applied. 00:46:42.46\00:46:45.60 That is certainly a symbol of Jesus. 00:46:45.63\00:46:48.40 The, the other goat, the Azazel, the scapegoat, it is not slain, 00:46:48.44\00:46:53.44 it is not sacrificed, it's carried off by a fit man, and 00:46:53.48\00:46:56.58 that means a responsible man, into the wilderness. 00:46:56.61\00:47:00.32 And all the sins of the people were placed on that goat, and it 00:47:00.35\00:47:04.15 was never to come back. 00:47:04.19\00:47:05.99 And many believe, and I believe, that this is--let me just back 00:47:06.02\00:47:11.69 up, because as soon as you say that Satan is bearing sin, 00:47:11.73\00:47:14.56 you're saying, "Is he our sin-bearer?" 00:47:14.56\00:47:16.46 No, some sins are born because of a substitute, Jesus 00:47:16.50\00:47:21.94 as our substitute. 00:47:21.97\00:47:23.30 If Christ does not pay for your sin, if you do not accept Jesus, 00:47:23.34\00:47:26.84 are your sins paid for? 00:47:26.88\00:47:28.18 Yeah, you paid for your sins. 00:47:28.21\00:47:30.31 You will be punished for your sins if you do not accept 00:47:30.35\00:47:32.65 Christ's sacrifice and follow Him. 00:47:32.68\00:47:35.32 Does the devil get to punish--suffer for the sins that 00:47:35.35\00:47:37.92 he has instigated? 00:47:37.95\00:47:39.69 Yes. 00:47:39.72\00:47:41.02 And so, when it talks about this scapegoat that goes off in the 00:47:41.06\00:47:43.99 wilderness, it's talking about the devil forever being 00:47:44.03\00:47:47.13 separated from God's people. 00:47:47.13\00:47:48.96 And Christ is not burying our sins forever. 00:47:49.00\00:47:52.60 It says, oh, I forget the verse, He comes the second time 00:47:52.63\00:47:55.24 Hebrews, "Without sin unto salvation." 00:47:55.27\00:47:57.67 Yeah, so when He comes back again, He's not still burying 00:47:57.71\00:48:00.28 our sins. 00:48:00.31\00:48:01.68 So, ultimately, when Satan is cast into the lake of fire, sin 00:48:01.71\00:48:06.48 and sinners will be forever done away with. 00:48:06.51\00:48:09.72 In that sense, he is the scapegoat, he's going to pay for 00:48:09.75\00:48:12.82 all the sins he's instigated. 00:48:12.85\00:48:14.86 So, Christ is the Lord's goat. 00:48:14.89\00:48:16.66 The other goat is the opposite of that. 00:48:16.69\00:48:19.63 Now some people believe both goats represent Jesus, and, you 00:48:19.66\00:48:22.90 know, I don't think that's a doctrine. 00:48:22.93\00:48:25.07 It's what you would not call a salvation doctrine. 00:48:25.10\00:48:27.67 If someone doesn't understand that, I don't think that's going 00:48:27.70\00:48:30.31 to cost them their salvation, but that's the way 00:48:30.34\00:48:32.94 I understand it. 00:48:32.97\00:48:34.28 Jëan: Yeah, and of course, it's important to note that the 00:48:34.31\00:48:35.74 scapegoat was never sacrificed, so it can't be Jesus, because 00:48:35.78\00:48:39.35 Jesus sacrificed. 00:48:39.38\00:48:40.72 Doug: No blood is shed--"Without the shedding the blood 00:48:40.75\00:48:42.28 there's no forgiveness." 00:48:42.32\00:48:43.55 Jëan: Right, okay, thank you, Leonard--we got Trent in Texas. 00:48:43.59\00:48:46.35 Trent, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:48:46.39\00:48:49.36 Trent: Hey, hey, Pastor Doug, hey, Pastor John, how are you 00:48:49.39\00:48:51.33 guys doing tonight? 00:48:51.36\00:48:52.69 Doug: Doing great, thank you for calling. 00:48:52.73\00:48:54.00 Trent: Hey, that's good. 00:48:54.03\00:48:55.36 Yeah, I just wanna let you guys know I'm actually, I was an 00:48:55.40\00:48:57.73 AFCOE student back in 2015, so it's good to hearing from you 00:48:57.77\00:49:00.20 guys again. 00:49:00.24\00:49:01.57 Doug: Oh, it's been ten years, congratulations. 00:49:01.60\00:49:02.90 Trent: Yeah, yep, almost ten years. 00:49:02.94\00:49:04.67 Yup, that's right. 00:49:04.71\00:49:06.81 But I--my question that I have for you guys tonight, I have 00:49:06.84\00:49:09.78 studied this and I have not been able to figure it out. 00:49:09.81\00:49:12.48 So I, I know that the Holy Spirit was in the Old Testament, 00:49:12.51\00:49:15.82 It's working on everyone's hearts at that time, but why did 00:49:15.85\00:49:19.79 Jesus say, in John 16:7, that if He did not depart, the Helper, 00:49:19.82\00:49:24.83 or the Holy Spirit, would not come? 00:49:24.86\00:49:27.56 Doug: Well, the baptism--let's just back up. 00:49:27.60\00:49:31.50 God's Spirit has worked all through Bible history. 00:49:31.53\00:49:34.27 You can see everywhere, from Genesis, where it says the 00:49:34.30\00:49:37.44 Spirit moves on the water, to where David was filled with the 00:49:37.47\00:49:40.58 Holy Spirit, Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit, Samson, 00:49:40.61\00:49:43.31 Spirit of the Lord came on him, so, God's Spirit's working all 00:49:43.35\00:49:45.51 through the Bible. 00:49:45.55\00:49:47.05 The Spirit of the Lord rested on the 70 elders in Exodus, so, 00:49:47.08\00:49:50.65 you've got the Holy Spirit working. 00:49:50.69\00:49:52.85 But something special happens after Pentecost with the 00:49:52.89\00:49:55.39 Holy Spirit. 00:49:55.42\00:49:57.06 Christ bought the right for a special baptism and 00:49:57.09\00:50:00.33 manifestation of the Spirit. 00:50:00.36\00:50:02.36 By His sacrifice being declared, that would not happen until He 00:50:02.40\00:50:06.20 ascended to the Father, and they said He had lived a perfectly 00:50:06.23\00:50:09.90 holy life, and He had suffered for all the sins of the world. 00:50:09.94\00:50:14.14 He had purchased the right to send the Holy Spirit in 00:50:14.18\00:50:18.25 a special power. 00:50:18.28\00:50:20.82 Obviously, something extraordinary in history 00:50:20.85\00:50:23.75 happened at Pentecost that continued all through 00:50:23.79\00:50:26.42 the apostolic era. 00:50:26.45\00:50:28.19 So, I think he's talking about that. 00:50:28.22\00:50:30.39 He's not saying that, you know, you've not had the Holy Spirit. 00:50:30.43\00:50:33.50 It was the Holy Spirit that led them to Jesus. 00:50:33.53\00:50:35.76 It's the Holy Spirit that convicted them of sin. 00:50:35.80\00:50:38.33 And you read also in John, in the upper room, He breathes on 00:50:38.37\00:50:41.20 them and says, "Receive the Holy Spirit." 00:50:41.24\00:50:43.64 But that was not Pentecost. Pentecost, 00:50:43.67\00:50:45.61 He said, "Don't go preaching. 00:50:45.64\00:50:48.24 Wait in Jerusalem until you receive this anointing," this 00:50:48.28\00:50:51.61 special power of the Spirit. 00:50:51.65\00:50:53.98 Something special happened there after Christ ascended and his 00:50:54.02\00:50:57.25 sacrifice was declared accepted. 00:50:57.29\00:50:59.59 He had purchased the right then. 00:50:59.62\00:51:01.82 Jëan: All right, excellent. 00:51:01.86\00:51:03.16 We've got Derek in Alabama. 00:51:03.19\00:51:04.53 Derek, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:51:04.56\00:51:06.56 Derek: First time listener as of tonight. 00:51:06.59\00:51:08.90 I just happen to be scanning through the radio and hear you 00:51:08.93\00:51:11.73 guys, and I'm so glad you're there. 00:51:11.77\00:51:13.64 Doug: We're glad you called. 00:51:13.67\00:51:14.97 Derek: I appreciate you, gentlemen, it's a lot of weight 00:51:15.00\00:51:18.11 on your shoulders for this. 00:51:18.14\00:51:19.67 All right, so, this is complicated and simple at the 00:51:19.71\00:51:21.88 same time, and it's something I've always wondered since I was 00:51:21.91\00:51:23.95 a little kid, and what this is is it's a spiritual warfare. 00:51:23.98\00:51:28.95 I'm retired military. 00:51:28.98\00:51:30.69 What I was trained is, if we're on the battlefield and you have 00:51:30.72\00:51:33.05 the enemy, you terminate the enemy's life at worst 00:51:33.09\00:51:36.19 case scenario. 00:51:36.22\00:51:37.96 Okay, so anytime I've seen pictures of angels battling each 00:51:37.99\00:51:42.33 other, you see them with drawn swords, fighting each other, but 00:51:42.36\00:51:46.10 the idea behind a sword is you're going to thrust it 00:51:46.13\00:51:48.00 through a body and kill it. 00:51:48.04\00:51:49.50 As far as I know, angels can't die, neither can fallen angels. 00:51:49.54\00:51:55.68 So my question is, how do they battle each other? 00:51:55.71\00:51:58.58 Can they hurt each other for real? 00:51:58.61\00:52:00.22 Because as far as I know, they're spiritual beings, they 00:52:00.25\00:52:02.05 don't have pain receptors. 00:52:02.08\00:52:03.92 So, how do they actually fight each other and protect people? 00:52:03.95\00:52:08.99 It, to me, it's-- 00:52:09.02\00:52:10.63 since I was a little kid. 00:52:10.66\00:52:12.39 Doug: Kind of mysterious, yeah, well, it's a great question, 00:52:12.43\00:52:14.10 because you read in Revelation 12, there's a war in heaven. 00:52:14.10\00:52:18.23 Michael and his angels fought, and the dragon and his 00:52:18.27\00:52:20.74 angels fought. 00:52:20.77\00:52:22.10 So here, you've got the good angels and the evil angels 00:52:22.14\00:52:25.14 engaging in some kind of a warfare. 00:52:25.17\00:52:28.28 Do they fight? 00:52:28.31\00:52:29.61 Yeah, the Bible's clear. 00:52:29.64\00:52:31.28 It says, we don't wrestle, we fight against these 00:52:31.31\00:52:33.88 spiritual powers. 00:52:33.92\00:52:35.22 Now, you said something I need to correct. 00:52:35.25\00:52:36.58 You said, "Angels can't die." 00:52:36.62\00:52:37.95 I don't think angels kill each other. 00:52:37.99\00:52:40.86 I think they bind. 00:52:40.89\00:52:42.79 You've talked in Jude about angels that are bound in 00:52:42.82\00:52:45.43 everlasting chains of darkness, and in Revelation, it says, 00:52:45.46\00:52:48.00 "Satan is bound for a thousand years." 00:52:48.03\00:52:50.57 So there are restrictions, angels can be fenced in, 00:52:50.60\00:52:53.37 they can be restricted. 00:52:53.40\00:52:55.34 And you do see in Ezekiel chapter 9, talks about an angel 00:52:55.37\00:53:00.34 with a destroying weapon. 00:53:00.38\00:53:01.71 What those weapons are, you know, I don't think we can 00:53:01.74\00:53:05.35 even comprehend. 00:53:05.38\00:53:07.22 But the good angels do war with evil angels. 00:53:07.25\00:53:12.19 You read, where is it? 00:53:12.22\00:53:13.52 In Daniel 10, where it talks about Michael's fighting with 00:53:13.56\00:53:15.79 the prince of Persia, meaning he's probably fighting with 00:53:15.82\00:53:17.69 Lucifer, who is manipulating the king of Persia, and that went on 00:53:17.73\00:53:21.66 21 days. 00:53:21.70\00:53:22.93 Jëan: And of course, it's not only, you've got the angels that 00:53:22.96\00:53:24.73 might war with one another. 00:53:24.77\00:53:26.90 In other words, the good angels are protecting God's people, but 00:53:26.94\00:53:30.74 there's also the devil and his angels that are trying to war 00:53:30.77\00:53:33.48 against us, and that is through our mind, through temptation, 00:53:33.51\00:53:36.95 putting thoughts, doubt in our minds, so that is a real battle 00:53:36.98\00:53:41.35 too, but that's sort of the battle of the mind. 00:53:41.38\00:53:43.79 Doug: Yeah, but I think God sends, when we pray, He'll send 00:53:43.82\00:53:46.02 good angels to dispel, waft away. 00:53:46.05\00:53:50.16 And in the Book of Job, Satan said to God, "You have put 00:53:50.19\00:53:54.20 a hedge about Job." 00:53:54.20\00:53:55.53 Meaning, you're, like, surrounded him. 00:53:55.56\00:53:57.33 And it says, "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who 00:53:57.37\00:54:01.27 serve him." So angels do, I think, surround and protect. 00:54:01.30\00:54:04.67 They can drive away evil angels. 00:54:04.71\00:54:06.71 Angels can die. 00:54:06.74\00:54:09.18 I don't think they kill each other, but in the end, Satan and 00:54:09.21\00:54:11.71 his angels are cast into the lake of fire, and they're 00:54:11.75\00:54:15.22 ultimately burned up. 00:54:15.25\00:54:16.58 They're destroyed, and they'll never be anymore, it says 00:54:16.62\00:54:19.65 in Ezekiel. 00:54:19.69\00:54:20.99 So, hope that helps a little, Derek, and I hope you call 00:54:21.02\00:54:23.16 again, thank you for listening. 00:54:23.19\00:54:24.66 Jëan: Stephanie in California has a question. 00:54:24.69\00:54:26.49 Stephanie, welcome to the program. 00:54:26.53\00:54:27.83 Stephanie: Oh, hi, thank you. 00:54:27.86\00:54:30.73 I had a question, and actually, somebody previously asked about 00:54:30.77\00:54:35.37 the drone, so my question is, what does the Bible say 00:54:35.40\00:54:39.61 about aliens? 00:54:39.64\00:54:40.98 Doug: All right, does the Bible say anything about aliens or 00:54:41.01\00:54:43.71 life on other planets? 00:54:43.75\00:54:45.05 I would say yes. 00:54:45.08\00:54:46.48 First of all, when you think about the infinite size of the 00:54:46.51\00:54:49.88 cosmos, and, you know, just our, our solar system is huge, and 00:54:49.92\00:54:57.53 then our solar system has one sun that is one star in one 00:54:57.56\00:55:03.73 galaxy called the Milky Way Galaxy that is like a hundred 00:55:03.77\00:55:07.50 light years across. 00:55:07.54\00:55:09.67 So, you know, they--thats means, He traveled the speed of light 00:55:09.70\00:55:13.98 for a hundred years to get across it. 00:55:14.01\00:55:16.11 There's so many stars out there. 00:55:16.14\00:55:17.48 Is there other intelligent life? 00:55:17.51\00:55:18.98 Oh, I believe absolutely there is. 00:55:19.01\00:55:21.55 So, and you read in the Bible, it says, what? 00:55:21.58\00:55:24.92 Hebrews chapter, is it chapter 1, verse 2? That "God through 00:55:24.95\00:55:28.46 Christ made the world." 00:55:28.49\00:55:30.69 There are other worlds. 00:55:30.73\00:55:32.66 And then you read in Revelation about every creature in heaven 00:55:32.69\00:55:36.10 and those creatures on earth. 00:55:36.13\00:55:38.20 So, God has unfallen, intelligent creatures that are 00:55:38.23\00:55:41.44 out there in the cosmos that have not sinned. 00:55:41.47\00:55:44.91 Humans and angels are not the only thing that God has made. 00:55:44.94\00:55:48.84 I believe that, you know, the universe is infinite. 00:55:48.88\00:55:52.15 God did not just start creating creatures with man 6,000 00:55:52.18\00:55:57.09 years ago. 00:55:57.12\00:55:58.45 I think that we are quarantined because of sin, and once sin is 00:55:58.49\00:56:02.22 dealt with, we'll once again be able to interact with these 00:56:02.26\00:56:06.26 unfallen beings. 00:56:06.29\00:56:07.96 So, yes, I think there is intelligent life out there. 00:56:07.96\00:56:11.53 When people say they've been captured by aliens, that I 00:56:11.57\00:56:14.90 doubt, unless they had some kind of a demonic experience. 00:56:14.94\00:56:18.11 I don't think the unfallen worlds are allowed to interact 00:56:18.14\00:56:21.01 with human beings right now because we've got this disease 00:56:21.04\00:56:24.98 of sin, and the only ones involved in the hospital right 00:56:25.01\00:56:28.32 now are God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and 00:56:28.35\00:56:32.55 the angels. 00:56:32.59\00:56:33.89 They're the hospital staff. 00:56:33.92\00:56:35.36 Everyone else has to wait until we're purified from sin. 00:56:35.39\00:56:38.49 Jëan: Our next caller that we have is Jim in Nevada. 00:56:38.53\00:56:40.66 Jim, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:56:40.70\00:56:43.47 Jim: Thanks, Pastor Ross, my question is pretty simple. 00:56:43.50\00:56:47.60 The Bible says that God is sovereign and that He has 00:56:47.64\00:56:52.81 control over all things. 00:56:52.84\00:56:54.78 So in that sense, do we really have genuine free will? 00:56:54.81\00:56:59.25 Doug: Good question. 00:56:59.28\00:57:00.88 I do believe that God is, ultimately, He's all powerful, 00:57:00.92\00:57:05.09 but a part of His control is He has chosen to give His 00:57:05.12\00:57:09.26 creatures, in order to love Him, we need to have a choice. 00:57:09.29\00:57:12.33 If we're forced to love Him, that's not real love, that's 00:57:12.36\00:57:15.93 just preprogramming. 00:57:15.96\00:57:17.50 Love must come from an intelligent choice, and so, He 00:57:17.53\00:57:20.67 gives His creatures freedom to choose. 00:57:20.70\00:57:23.17 He may know what we're going to choose, but we are truly free to 00:57:23.20\00:57:25.64 make that decision, and I think that's the most important thing. 00:57:25.67\00:57:30.78 That's why there's sin in the world is because of the choice 00:57:30.81\00:57:32.98 of the devil to rebel and the choice of some creatures in this 00:57:33.01\00:57:36.72 world, or most creatures in this world, to listen to the devil 00:57:36.75\00:57:40.22 instead of listen to God. 00:57:40.26\00:57:41.82 So, yes, God gives us free will, and that's why the Bible says, 00:57:41.86\00:57:45.26 "Whosoever will, let him come and take the water of life," 00:57:45.29\00:57:49.40 whosoever believes in Him, we can choose to believe, and 00:57:49.43\00:57:52.30 that's the good news, friends. 00:57:52.33\00:57:53.67 I hope everyone out there has made that choice, to believe in 00:57:53.70\00:57:56.54 Jesus, accept Him as your Savior, give Him your heart. 00:57:56.57\00:57:59.91 He's got a big plan for your life. 00:57:59.94\00:58:01.61 We'll study again together next week, God bless. 00:58:01.64\00:58:04.68 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:58:07.42\00:58:09.88 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before 00:58:09.92\00:58:13.66 Bible Answers live is produced by Amazing Facts International. 00:58:13.69\00:58:17.46 A faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:58:17.49\00:58:22.33
