¤¤¤ 00:00:01.10\00:00:02.96 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.47 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted; 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.70 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.41 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.44\00:00:16.34 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.38\00:00:19.68 Welcome 00:00:38.40\00:00:43.71 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.88 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.91\00:00:49.91 Doug Batchelor: Hello friends, would you like to hear an 00:00:49.94\00:00:52.11 amazing fact? 00:00:52.15\00:00:54.05 We've all heard about various kinds of plagues throughout 00:00:54.08\00:00:56.89 history, the Black Death or bubonic plague, smallpox, and 00:00:56.92\00:01:00.76 the Spanish flu, but have you ever heard about the 00:01:00.79\00:01:04.09 dancing plague? 00:01:04.13\00:01:06.03 The dancing plague of 1518 was an event in which hundreds of 00:01:06.06\00:01:10.23 citizens of Strasbourg, a city by the border of France and 00:01:10.27\00:01:13.44 Germany, danced uncontrollably, and apparently unwillingly, for 00:01:13.47\00:01:18.04 days on end. 00:01:18.07\00:01:19.54 The outbreak began in July, 1518, when a woman called Frau 00:01:19.57\00:01:23.24 Troffea stepped from her home and began to dance fervently and 00:01:23.28\00:01:27.05 uncontrollably in the street. 00:01:27.08\00:01:29.52 Within a week, more than 30 other people were affected. 00:01:29.55\00:01:33.42 This number eventually grew to 400. 00:01:33.46\00:01:36.56 People overcome by the dancing plague would suddenly start 00:01:36.59\00:01:39.23 stomping their feet, twitching and flaying their limbs. 00:01:39.26\00:01:42.23 Oblivious to the world around them, they'd keep dancing until 00:01:42.26\00:01:45.27 they collapsed from exhaustion. 00:01:45.30\00:01:47.47 Many suffered from heart attacks or strokes and died. 00:01:47.50\00:01:50.84 It seems there was nothing the city fathers could do to stop 00:01:50.87\00:01:53.64 the compulsion. 00:01:53.68\00:01:55.18 The mania lasted for about two months before ending as 00:01:55.21\00:01:58.45 mysteriously as it began. 00:01:58.48\00:02:00.85 Today, nobody is exactly sure what caused the phenomenon, but 00:02:00.88\00:02:04.89 experts believe the most likely explanation was ergot. 00:02:04.92\00:02:09.06 Ergot is a fungus that grows on white, rye, or wheat. 00:02:09.09\00:02:13.50 Poisoning from this mold can cause muscle spasms, fever, and 00:02:13.53\00:02:16.53 hallucinations, and the victims might appear dazed and manic. 00:02:16.56\00:02:20.64 By the way, the chemical in ergot mold is similar to 00:02:20.67\00:02:24.57 lysergic acid diethylamide, better known as LSD. 00:02:24.61\00:02:29.54 Evidently, when people of Strasbourg finished consuming 00:02:29.58\00:02:32.55 the batch of bad grain, the plague soon ended. 00:02:32.58\00:02:36.38 It's surprising, Pastor Ross, how much what we eat can affect 00:02:36.42\00:02:39.65 our behavior. 00:02:39.69\00:02:40.99 Jëan Ross: That's right, and affects the mind and the way we 00:02:41.02\00:02:43.06 behave and think, and it's quite a test, quite a story there. 00:02:43.09\00:02:46.63 I mean, you think of plagues and, you know, people get sick 00:02:46.66\00:02:49.43 and, you know, they die from whatever disease. 00:02:49.46\00:02:52.10 Here the people just got all this energy and they start 00:02:52.13\00:02:54.77 jumping around and dancing, and you mentioned that some people 00:02:54.80\00:02:57.64 die from--they died from a heart attack as a result 00:02:57.67\00:03:00.28 of this. 00:03:00.31\00:03:01.64 Doug: They just, their hearts-- I think the lady that began 00:03:01.68\00:03:03.48 dancing was in her twenties. 00:03:03.51\00:03:04.81 She'd collapse at the end of the day and then she'd wake up the 00:03:04.85\00:03:07.02 next day and start dancing again. 00:03:07.05\00:03:09.02 And not only what you eat physically can affect your 00:03:09.05\00:03:13.39 behavior, but certainly what you eat spiritually can affect 00:03:13.42\00:03:16.39 your behavior. 00:03:16.42\00:03:17.76 By the way, you're from Africa, they have something they're 00:03:17.79\00:03:19.03 called sleeping sickness, where people get bit--if they get bit 00:03:19.06\00:03:22.76 by a--Jëan: Yeah, I'm not exactly sure whether it's 00:03:22.80\00:03:26.10 bacteria or virus or something, but yeah, people just--if they 00:03:26.13\00:03:29.54 sit still for too long, they just fall asleep. 00:03:29.57\00:03:31.97 Doug: Yeah, so, yeah, these outside influences can have 00:03:32.01\00:03:35.74 a difference. 00:03:35.78\00:03:37.08 And what we eat, what we consume spiritually, can affect 00:03:37.11\00:03:40.95 our behavior. 00:03:40.98\00:03:42.48 And there's a Bible verse in Isaiah chapter 55, it says, 00:03:42.52\00:03:45.22 this is verse 2, "Why do you spend your money for that which 00:03:45.25\00:03:49.46 is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? 00:03:49.49\00:03:53.56 Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul 00:03:53.60\00:03:58.10 delight itself in abundance." 00:03:58.13\00:04:00.30 We need to make sure that we're eating good spiritual food if we 00:04:00.34\00:04:04.51 want to have the right spiritual behavior. 00:04:04.54\00:04:07.58 Jëan: And you know, Jesus said something similar when He said, 00:04:07.61\00:04:10.31 "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by 00:04:10.35\00:04:13.75 every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" 00:04:13.78\00:04:15.98 That is Matthew chapter 4, verse 4--so if we can grow 00:04:16.02\00:04:18.99 spiritually, we have to feed upon that living bread which is 00:04:19.02\00:04:22.36 the Word of God. 00:04:22.39\00:04:23.73 Doug: Yeah, and you know, what we eat--they say you are what 00:04:23.76\00:04:27.36 you eat. 00:04:27.40\00:04:28.70 It's true physically, you know, everything in our bodies is sort 00:04:28.73\00:04:30.87 of replaced by what we eat over, I think it takes several 00:04:30.90\00:04:34.00 months for your cells to, sort of, replace, and you become what 00:04:34.04\00:04:38.11 you consume. 00:04:38.14\00:04:39.44 Well, that is true of your spiritual life. 00:04:39.47\00:04:41.31 And if we're feeding on the the diet of the world and the 00:04:41.34\00:04:44.11 worldly entertainment, it's hard to resist temptation when you 00:04:44.15\00:04:47.58 have your values being shaped and fashioned by the wrong kind 00:04:47.62\00:04:51.49 of spiritual food. 00:04:51.52\00:04:53.02 So, the right kind of food would, well, begin with the Word 00:04:53.05\00:04:56.12 of God. 00:04:56.16\00:04:57.49 Jëan: That's right, and our free offer for today talks about 00:04:57.53\00:05:00.20 the Word of God, talks about the Bible. Pastor Doug, before we go to the phone lines, we always 00:05:42.57\00:05:44.74 like to start with prayer, so let's do that now. 00:05:44.77\00:05:47.81 Dear Father, we thank You once again that we have this 00:05:47.84\00:05:50.38 opportunity to study Your Word. 00:05:50.41\00:05:52.01 We ask Your blessing upon those who are listening, wherever they 00:05:52.05\00:05:54.42 might be. 00:05:54.45\00:05:55.75 Father, Your Word is life, as we were just talking about the 00:05:55.78\00:05:58.89 spiritual life that comes from Your Word. 00:05:58.92\00:06:01.22 And so strengthen us and feed us on the Scriptures tonight, for 00:06:01.26\00:06:04.46 we ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:06:04.49\00:06:08.10 Well, our first caller is Shelby, listening in Arkansas. 00:06:08.13\00:06:10.73 Shelby, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:06:10.77\00:06:14.20 Shelby: Good evening, how are you guys doing? 00:06:14.24\00:06:16.64 Doug: Doing good, thanks so much for calling. 00:06:16.67\00:06:20.01 Shelby: Yes, sir, Pastor Doug, I'm just--I'm looking here in 00:06:20.04\00:06:22.88 Genesis chapter 9, verse 3, and I'm reading out of the New King 00:06:22.91\00:06:28.45 James Version. 00:06:28.48\00:06:29.78 That's the version of the Bible I have and it says, "Every 00:06:29.82\00:06:31.82 moving thing that lives shall be food for you." 00:06:31.85\00:06:36.83 And before I get on this, I just want you--I would like you to 00:06:36.86\00:06:39.16 shed some light on that, but I just want to note really fast, I 00:06:39.19\00:06:42.76 just find it very interesting that if you flip over to Genesis 00:06:42.80\00:06:46.43 chapter 7, verse 2, and of course, we see that perfect 00:06:46.47\00:06:50.11 number here, seven, it says, "You shall take with you seven 00:06:50.14\00:06:54.28 each of every clean animal, a male and his female, but then 00:06:54.31\00:06:58.71 you shall take two of each of the unclean animals." 00:06:58.75\00:07:01.92 Now, I just want to note really fast before you do this, this is 00:07:01.95\00:07:05.29 long before--this is post-flood here of Noah in chapter 9, so 00:07:05.32\00:07:09.32 this is long before the dietary laws are passed down to the 00:07:09.36\00:07:12.86 children of Israel in Leviticus chapter 11. 00:07:12.89\00:07:15.73 Doug: Yeah, well, first of all, God makes a distinction between 00:07:15.76\00:07:18.17 the clean and the unclean, as you mentioned. 00:07:18.20\00:07:20.94 The clean animals are taken on the ark in sevens, the unclean 00:07:20.97\00:07:25.27 animals are taken by two, and if you think about it, if people 00:07:25.31\00:07:28.78 were allowed to eat the unclean animals, they would have been 00:07:28.81\00:07:32.38 extinct very quickly. 00:07:32.41\00:07:34.92 The clean animals were the thing that was not only allowed 00:07:34.95\00:07:38.02 for consumption. 00:07:38.05\00:07:39.39 And don't forget the one who writes Genesis, Moses, is the 00:07:39.42\00:07:42.32 same one who writes Deuteronomy and Leviticus, where he said, 00:07:42.36\00:07:46.80 "You shall not eat any detestable thing." 00:07:46.83\00:07:49.66 So when he said, "Everything that moves will be food for 00:07:49.70\00:07:51.63 you," it meant among the fish there were clean foods, among 00:07:51.67\00:07:54.74 the birds there were clean foods, among the mammals there 00:07:54.77\00:07:57.14 were clean foods, but he had already identified which were to 00:07:57.17\00:08:01.11 be eaten. 00:08:01.14\00:08:02.48 So, it was never God's will for people to eat skunks and 00:08:02.51\00:08:05.85 cockroaches and vultures, and I mean, they're obviously animals 00:08:05.88\00:08:08.95 that are creatures of carrion and that's why He said these 00:08:08.98\00:08:13.22 are detestable. 00:08:13.25\00:08:15.09 And He specifies that because all the vegetation had been 00:08:15.12\00:08:18.56 destroyed during the flood, they were permitted to eat the 00:08:18.59\00:08:21.83 clean animals. 00:08:21.86\00:08:23.60 So, yeah, it was never God's will for them to eat everything. 00:08:23.63\00:08:26.97 When He makes that statement there in Genesis 9, he's talking 00:08:27.00\00:08:31.01 about the clean animals that had been identified earlier. 00:08:31.04\00:08:34.21 Jëan: You know, it's also interesting, Pastor Doug, that 00:08:34.24\00:08:35.61 you have mention of clean and unclean animals, not only here, 00:08:35.64\00:08:39.15 but in order to have the sacrificial system which was 00:08:39.18\00:08:41.68 implemented right after the fall with Adam and Eve, there needed 00:08:41.72\00:08:45.22 to be a distinction of animals because not all animals were 00:08:45.25\00:08:48.32 acceptable as sacrifice, only the clean animals. 00:08:48.36\00:08:51.53 So Adam, right from Adam onwards, there was a distinction 00:08:51.56\00:08:54.73 made between that which was clean and that which 00:08:54.76\00:08:56.60 was unclean. 00:08:56.63\00:08:57.97 And this was just re-articulated once again, just after the 00:08:58.00\00:09:01.30 flood, when there was no vegetation for them to eat. 00:09:01.34\00:09:04.44 Doug: Absolutely. 00:09:04.47\00:09:05.77 Jëan: We do have a study guide talking about "God's Free 00:09:05.81\00:09:08.01 Health Plan." 00:09:08.04\00:09:09.34 It talks about the biblical principles of living a long, 00:09:09.38\00:09:11.18 healthy life. 00:09:11.21\00:09:12.55 I'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:09:12.58\00:09:14.18 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:09:14.22\00:09:17.79 Ask for it by name, it's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:09:17.82\00:09:20.79 If you have your cell phone, you can dial pound 250, say "Bible 00:09:20.82\00:09:24.19 Answers Live," and then after that, "Study Guide, 'God's Free 00:09:24.23\00:09:27.83 Health Plan."' 00:09:27.86\00:09:29.13 We got Brittany listening in California. 00:09:29.16\00:09:30.80 Brittany, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:09:30.83\00:09:33.77 Brittany: Yeah, my question is, "What style of music is 00:09:33.80\00:09:39.67 considered appropriate for the Christian in today's world?" 00:09:39.71\00:09:43.55 Doug: All right, well, the principles for Christian music 00:09:43.58\00:09:47.78 have always been the same, that doesn't change. 00:09:47.82\00:09:49.95 I mean, culture changes and some styles change, but the 00:09:49.98\00:09:52.49 principles wouldn't change. 00:09:52.52\00:09:54.09 It's like the principles for clothing, the styles of 00:09:54.12\00:09:57.23 clothing, colors of clothing, that may change, but the 00:09:57.26\00:09:59.93 principles of cleanliness, modesty, so forth, that 00:09:59.96\00:10:03.10 doesn't change. 00:10:03.13\00:10:04.47 Music is probably one of the most difficult questions 00:10:04.50\00:10:07.84 to specify. 00:10:07.87\00:10:09.67 It's like we had a question before about clean and 00:10:09.70\00:10:11.81 unclean foods. 00:10:11.84\00:10:13.14 Well, God gives some guidelines. 00:10:13.17\00:10:14.51 He says, you know, "Birds had to be foraging birds, the fish 00:10:14.54\00:10:17.41 needed fins and scales, mammals needed clove and hoof, chew 00:10:17.45\00:10:20.45 the cud." 00:10:20.48\00:10:21.82 So what are the guidelines now for music? 00:10:21.85\00:10:23.15 Well, that's a little more-- well, what do you say, a little 00:10:23.18\00:10:25.89 more subjective, but here's the principles. 00:10:25.92\00:10:28.02 The words need to be words of truth that glorify God. 00:10:28.06\00:10:31.53 They need to be positive, good words. 00:10:31.56\00:10:33.63 Is this something that God can bless in the words, the message? 00:10:33.66\00:10:38.27 Then there's music that is for different occasions. 00:10:38.30\00:10:41.97 No matter where you go in the world, lullabies are usually the 00:10:42.00\00:10:46.71 mothers singing to a baby, it's going to be sweet, it's going 00:10:46.74\00:10:49.31 to be soft, it's going to be rhythmic, so that the baby will 00:10:49.34\00:10:51.78 go to sleep. 00:10:51.81\00:10:53.15 War music or marching music is going to be different. 00:10:53.18\00:10:55.45 It's the kind of thing that you would play, it's a little 00:10:55.48\00:10:57.65 louder, a little more, you know, to get the soldiers to march, 00:10:57.69\00:11:00.96 and there's several battle songs and victory songs in the Psalms. 00:11:00.99\00:11:04.63 So usually, matter of fact, the last, I think, four or five 00:11:04.66\00:11:07.66 Psalms are talking about, "Shout to the Lord, make a loud 00:11:07.73\00:11:10.93 noise," and they're like victory songs. 00:11:10.97\00:11:13.03 When the women came out to meet David and Saul, when they came 00:11:13.07\00:11:16.60 out with Miriam, the music they led was a celebration 00:11:16.64\00:11:20.38 of victory. 00:11:20.41\00:11:21.74 That's a different kind of music, Jethro's daughter came 00:11:21.78\00:11:24.51 out singing that kind of song. 00:11:24.55\00:11:26.85 And then there's romantic music. 00:11:26.88\00:11:29.12 That--if there's a place, you get the Song of Solomon, and 00:11:29.15\00:11:31.45 there's a place for that. 00:11:31.49\00:11:34.02 But Christian music, you know, it's the kind of thing that's 00:11:34.06\00:11:36.83 going to be exalting God. 00:11:36.86\00:11:39.69 It doesn't need to be--people think that to praise God, the 00:11:39.73\00:11:42.30 louder it is, the more praiseworthy it is, and that's 00:11:42.33\00:11:45.30 just not true. 00:11:45.33\00:11:46.87 Christian music is going to be inspirational. 00:11:46.90\00:11:48.77 You have to ask yourself, "Is this something that Jesus would 00:11:48.80\00:11:51.57 listen to? 00:11:51.61\00:11:52.94 Can you picture Jesus singing this?" 00:11:52.97\00:11:54.28 And a Christian is a follower of Christ. 00:11:54.31\00:11:57.05 A lot of the music of the world, it just sounds like pagan 00:11:57.08\00:12:02.05 pandemonium, it's confusion and chaos, it's like the 00:12:02.08\00:12:06.19 Babylonian music. 00:12:06.22\00:12:08.06 Jëan: And that's a good point, Pastor Doug, that 00:12:08.09\00:12:09.39 you mentioned. 00:12:09.42\00:12:10.73 There are certain types of music that are used that go back way 00:12:10.76\00:12:13.16 in primitive cultures in witchcraft and demonic worship, 00:12:13.19\00:12:16.80 and even in voodoo type ceremonies with this very heavy 00:12:16.83\00:12:21.84 beat that just keeps going, this rhythmic--kind of works people 00:12:21.87\00:12:25.27 up into a frenzy. 00:12:25.31\00:12:26.81 That style of music shouldn't have any part to do with 00:12:26.84\00:12:29.81 Christian music because of where it comes from, what it's used 00:12:29.84\00:12:32.41 for, it's not drawing you closer to God, but it's almost putting 00:12:32.45\00:12:35.75 people in a trance, like a type of hypnosis. 00:12:35.78\00:12:38.92 And I think Christians need to avoid that, stay away from that. 00:12:38.95\00:12:41.89 Doug: Yeah, and then the other thing is you look at how people 00:12:41.92\00:12:44.93 dance to certain kinds of music. 00:12:44.96\00:12:47.40 The kind of dance they would do at a Hebrew wedding where the 00:12:47.40\00:12:49.90 men are dancing, usually they just dance with the men and then 00:12:49.93\00:12:52.80 women dance with the women. 00:12:52.83\00:12:54.24 It's very different from the music where men and women are 00:12:54.27\00:12:56.17 dancing together, it's extremely sexually suggestive, and that 00:12:56.20\00:13:00.61 ought to tell you something right there. 00:13:00.64\00:13:02.31 I've seen churches before where they're playing music that would 00:13:02.34\00:13:04.91 normally be in a nightclub, they throw in a few Christian words 00:13:04.95\00:13:08.15 and they call it Christian music, but when I was in the 00:13:08.18\00:13:10.55 world, it was nightclub music. 00:13:10.59\00:13:12.82 So yeah, it's hard to know where to draw that line. 00:13:12.85\00:13:18.59 But, you know, I have a book, and I think it's small enough we 00:13:18.63\00:13:21.00 can offer it to those that are interested. 00:13:21.03\00:13:22.70 It's called "The Christian and Music." 00:13:22.73\00:13:24.53 Jëan: That's right, sounds like a great book dealing with 00:13:24.57\00:13:26.60 the subject. 00:13:26.63\00:13:27.94 Call and ask, the number is 800-835-6747. 00:13:27.97\00:13:30.94 You can ask for the book, it's called "Christian and Music," or 00:13:30.97\00:13:34.11 dial pound 250 and ask for it by name, "The Music and 00:13:34.14\00:13:38.18 the Christian." 00:13:38.21\00:13:39.51 All right, next caller that we have is Jackson in Alabama. 00:13:39.55\00:13:42.42 Jackson, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:13:42.45\00:13:44.59 Jackson: Amen, In 1 Corinthians chapter 15, it talks about once 00:13:44.62\00:13:51.89 Jesus has all things under His feet that He will give 00:13:51.93\00:13:55.90 everything back to the Father, and the Bible says that Jesus is 00:13:55.93\00:14:00.87 God, so I was just wondering how does Him giving the authority 00:14:00.90\00:14:04.71 back to the Father relate to His deity. 00:14:04.74\00:14:07.24 Doug: Jesus being God does not mean that there is not an 00:14:07.28\00:14:10.88 attitude of submission between the members of the deity. 00:14:10.91\00:14:14.78 When Christ comes into the world, He says, you know, "All 00:14:14.82\00:14:18.69 authority is given Me by the Father, God the Father, Soul of 00:14:18.72\00:14:21.42 the World." 00:14:21.46\00:14:22.69 He gave His Son, and so you see, the Father seems to be portrayed 00:14:22.72\00:14:25.59 in the Bible, more so in the New Testament, as the ultimate 00:14:25.63\00:14:29.66 authority, that there's like a voluntary submission and yet 00:14:29.70\00:14:33.34 there's equality. 00:14:33.37\00:14:34.94 So God, the Father, Son, and Spirit, are all-knowing, 00:14:34.97\00:14:39.04 omnipresent, all-powerful, but that doesn't mean that you don't 00:14:39.07\00:14:45.01 see that there is some submission on the part of 00:14:45.05\00:14:47.15 the Son to the Father. 00:14:47.18\00:14:48.55 The Father delegates all creation to the Son, all things 00:14:48.58\00:14:51.85 that are made are made by the Son. 00:14:51.89\00:14:53.86 And all judgment is given to the Son. 00:14:53.89\00:14:56.26 The Father has given all judgment to the Son. 00:14:56.29\00:14:58.43 So you see the Father all through the New Testament giving 00:14:58.46\00:15:00.86 things to the Son, but that doesn't mean that Jesus is 00:15:00.90\00:15:04.23 a lesser God. 00:15:04.27\00:15:05.83 And so I know that sometimes it's hard for us to comprehend a 00:15:05.87\00:15:08.50 husband and wife are equal, of equal value. 00:15:08.54\00:15:11.51 But the Bible says that the husband is to be the head, and 00:15:11.54\00:15:15.61 the wife is to be, and needs to be the, you know, the support 00:15:15.64\00:15:19.05 and to protect his wife. 00:15:19.08\00:15:21.62 But in the family, the authority is generally in the Bible 00:15:21.65\00:15:24.79 acknowledged with the Father. 00:15:24.82\00:15:27.49 So I don't know if that helps with the question, Jackson. 00:15:27.52\00:15:31.43 Is that getting me anywhere? 00:15:31.46\00:15:33.40 Jackson: Yeah, like, that's how I read it in the Bible too. 00:15:33.43\00:15:36.70 Just, you know, they have different parts of them and 00:15:36.73\00:15:39.97 Christ has that submission, but somebody had brought that 00:15:40.00\00:15:42.64 Scripture up and I hadn't looked at that before, so that helps, 00:15:42.67\00:15:46.41 thank you. 00:15:46.44\00:15:47.68 Doug: Yeah, and when Jesus--you see through the parables that it 00:15:47.71\00:15:49.64 says He was sent by the Father to receive a kingdom. 00:15:49.68\00:15:53.65 When He ascends to heaven He is declared by the Father, His 00:15:53.68\00:15:57.02 sacrifice is complete and successful, and then He comes 00:15:57.05\00:16:00.62 again at the end of the one thousand years, and He's 00:16:00.66\00:16:02.82 ultimately the king of the world when there's a new heaven and 00:16:02.86\00:16:05.19 new earth. 00:16:05.23\00:16:06.56 So there's, like--there's a progress that happens in His 00:16:06.59\00:16:10.87 redeeming the kingdom because He created it, He dies for it, 00:16:10.90\00:16:15.64 He redeems it. 00:16:15.67\00:16:17.01 And that's, you know, His role is a little different than 00:16:17.04\00:16:19.01 the Father's. 00:16:19.04\00:16:20.38 Jëan: All right, thank you, Jackson. 00:16:20.41\00:16:21.71 We got Larry in Arkansas. 00:16:21.74\00:16:23.08 Larry, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:16:23.11\00:16:25.48 Larry: Yeah, Revelations 20, the angel that had the keys to 00:16:25.51\00:16:31.02 the bottomless pit and he incarcerates Satan for a 00:16:31.05\00:16:35.86 thousand years and replaces the seal, and that says he 00:16:35.89\00:16:40.73 received the nation no more for a thousand years, but then he 00:16:40.76\00:16:44.30 is released for a season and I'm wondering why he would be 00:16:44.33\00:16:51.37 released after being incarcerated for a thousand 00:16:51.41\00:16:54.14 years and what would "for a little season" mean? 00:16:54.18\00:16:58.51 Doug: All right, that's good, that's really an 00:16:58.55\00:16:59.85 important question. 00:16:59.88\00:17:01.28 So, if finally we're in heaven, we've been raptured up, we're 00:17:01.32\00:17:05.39 with the Lord in heaven, and we spent a thousand years living 00:17:05.42\00:17:08.62 and reigning with the Lord, Satan is bound, why would He let 00:17:08.66\00:17:12.29 him out? 00:17:12.33\00:17:13.66 Well, if you go back in the great controversy between Christ 00:17:13.70\00:17:17.17 and the devil, Satan was the highest of the angels. 00:17:17.20\00:17:20.64 In other words, he was just below Jesus in power. 00:17:20.67\00:17:23.91 He was the highest of all created beings, and he rebelled 00:17:23.94\00:17:27.51 and made terrible accusations against God. 00:17:27.54\00:17:30.18 So now, you know, God's been merciful with humans and that He 00:17:30.21\00:17:33.62 gives us a probation, a time to have a change of heart. 00:17:33.65\00:17:36.95 After the devil has a thousand years to look at this 00:17:36.99\00:17:39.75 desolation he's caused in our world through his government, 00:17:39.79\00:17:44.03 the Lord releases him to demonstrate that instead of 00:17:44.06\00:17:47.03 repenting, it's says, "Satan goes to gather all of the," it 00:17:47.10\00:17:52.03 calls them Gog and Magog, "the enemies of God's people, the 00:17:52.07\00:17:54.27 wicked that are resurrected," he goes to gather them to battle 00:17:54.30\00:17:57.71 against God. 00:17:57.74\00:17:59.04 He hasn't changed, God is showing the unfallen angels in 00:17:59.07\00:18:02.21 the universe that this once glorious angel has fallen and he 00:18:02.24\00:18:06.85 has no redeemable qualities left. 00:18:06.88\00:18:09.05 God has no alternative but to destroy him, cast him into the 00:18:09.08\00:18:12.95 lake of fire. 00:18:12.99\00:18:14.32 So, it's not just for the benefit of humanity to see that 00:18:14.36\00:18:18.49 the devil's not going to turn around. 00:18:18.53\00:18:20.63 People that we see that are lost, God is showing, even after 00:18:20.66\00:18:25.27 they've been resurrected in the judgment, they're still willing 00:18:25.30\00:18:27.70 to listen to the devil instead of repent. 00:18:27.74\00:18:30.64 So it's to demonstrate that God has no alternative, He's 00:18:30.67\00:18:34.41 very patient. 00:18:34.44\00:18:35.88 Jëan: And you know, if you read on in the chapter, there's 00:18:35.91\00:18:37.71 a lot that happens there. 00:18:37.75\00:18:39.05 You have, as you mentioned, Pastor, like, the righteous in 00:18:39.08\00:18:40.42 heaven for a thousand years, the wicked, they destroyed the 00:18:40.45\00:18:43.39 brightness of Christ's coming, so the devil and his angels are 00:18:43.42\00:18:45.89 bound to this dark, desolate world, otherwise known as the 00:18:45.92\00:18:49.69 bottomless pit, symbolized here in Revelation chapter 20. 00:18:49.72\00:18:53.03 And then at the end of the thousand years, the New 00:18:53.06\00:18:54.56 Jerusalem comes down from heaven, that's Revelation 21. 00:18:54.60\00:18:57.70 The devil then is released from his so-called prison because now 00:18:57.73\00:19:01.94 the wicked are resurrected, so he has somebody to tempt. 00:19:01.97\00:19:04.94 And it says he goes out and gathers together the nations, 00:19:04.97\00:19:07.84 the golden city is there, the Bible says they encompassed the 00:19:07.88\00:19:10.91 golden city and they mount their attack. 00:19:10.95\00:19:12.98 Of course, just before this, we have what we call the Great 00:19:13.01\00:19:15.08 White Throne judgment, where everyone has an opportunity to 00:19:15.12\00:19:18.19 see the justice of God and that God is fair and everyone 00:19:18.22\00:19:22.22 acknowledges the justice of God. 00:19:22.26\00:19:23.83 But then the devil leads the wicked and they mount their 00:19:23.86\00:19:27.23 attack upon the New Jerusalem, and that's where fire comes, 00:19:27.30\00:19:29.80 devours them, and then God creates the new heavens and 00:19:29.83\00:19:32.67 a new earth. 00:19:32.70\00:19:34.00 So the phrase there, "a little season," the Bible doesn't tell 00:19:34.04\00:19:36.91 us what that is. 00:19:36.94\00:19:38.24 There's a lot that happens though. 00:19:38.27\00:19:39.67 It seems like it's going to be more than a couple of hours or 00:19:39.71\00:19:42.74 maybe even more than a couple of days. 00:19:42.78\00:19:44.08 It might drag on for a while, but it's little in comparison to 00:19:44.11\00:19:47.78 the rest of time of people living on the earth, so-- 00:19:47.82\00:19:51.12 we do have a study guide. 00:19:51.15\00:19:52.49 It's called "1000 Years of Peace," and it talks about this 00:19:52.52\00:19:54.79 and we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:19:54.82\00:19:57.29 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:19:57.33\00:20:00.93 Ask for the study guide "1000 Years of Peace," you can dial 00:20:00.96\00:20:04.47 pound 250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers Live," and 00:20:04.50\00:20:08.30 then ask for that study guide by name, "1000 Years of Peace." 00:20:08.34\00:20:12.27 You'll actually be able to get a digital download if you use your 00:20:12.31\00:20:15.58 cell phone, just dial pound 250. 00:20:15.61\00:20:18.55 Next caller that we have is Jet in Florida. 00:20:18.58\00:20:20.88 Jet, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:20:20.92\00:20:24.32 Jet: Hi, Pastor Doug. 00:20:24.35\00:20:25.75 Doug: Hi Jet, thanks for calling, and your 00:20:25.79\00:20:28.46 question tonight? 00:20:28.49\00:20:30.63 Jet: Does the Bible say that Jonah died in the belly of 00:20:30.66\00:20:33.83 the whale and then rose again? 00:20:33.86\00:20:37.40 Doug: No, the Bible doesn't say he died in the belly of 00:20:37.43\00:20:40.20 the whale. 00:20:40.24\00:20:41.54 I'm sure he's dead now, but, it tells us he was alive in the 00:20:41.57\00:20:44.67 belly of the whale because he prays from the fish's belly and 00:20:44.71\00:20:49.31 there's nothing in the text that says that he dies. 00:20:49.34\00:20:51.95 It is a symbol, you know, when you're three days and three 00:20:51.98\00:20:55.38 nights in the darkness, it's kind of a symbol of like Jesus's 00:20:55.42\00:20:59.95 suffering and death and resurrection. 00:21:00.06\00:21:02.86 What Jonah went through, Jesus said, "No sign will be given but 00:21:02.89\00:21:05.29 the sign of Jonah," but Jonah miraculously somehow survived 00:21:05.33\00:21:10.20 and there's stories in history of a couple of people that have 00:21:10.23\00:21:12.63 been swallowed by whales and lived. 00:21:12.67\00:21:15.57 In fact, there's a YouTube of a kayaker that gets swallowed by 00:21:15.60\00:21:19.94 a whale and gets spit out again when he's out up in Alaska 00:21:19.97\00:21:25.28 there somewhere. 00:21:25.31\00:21:26.61 Someone got that on camera, but he was only in the belly of 00:21:26.65\00:21:28.88 the--he didn't go all the way to the belly, he was 00:21:28.92\00:21:30.55 in the mouth of the whale for about five seconds. 00:21:30.59\00:21:34.72 Anyway, thanks Jet, appreciate it. 00:21:34.76\00:21:36.09 And we do have a book called "The Sign of Jonah" we'll send 00:21:36.12\00:21:38.49 you that's got some of the history we just talked about. 00:21:38.53\00:21:40.76 Jëan: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:21:40.80\00:21:44.93 You can ask for the book. 00:21:44.97\00:21:46.30 It's called "The Sign of Jonah" or, as we mentioned, dial 00:21:46.33\00:21:48.27 pound 250. 00:21:48.30\00:21:49.77 Say "Bible Answers Live" and ask for the book by name. 00:21:49.80\00:21:52.97 Next caller that we have is Glenn in Ohio. 00:21:53.01\00:21:55.58 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:21:55.61\00:21:58.45 Glenn: Thank you very much for taking my call. 00:21:58.48\00:22:02.08 You know, Yeshua led a life wonderfully, showing us the path 00:22:02.12\00:22:06.59 to the redemption of Matthew 24:13. 00:22:06.62\00:22:10.23 And the point that I'm addressing tonight is the born 00:22:10.26\00:22:12.83 again experience that He had. 00:22:12.86\00:22:15.63 According to Peter in Colossians, it was 00:22:15.66\00:22:17.83 a resurrection. 00:22:17.87\00:22:20.47 It takes to my question tonight, taking into consideration 1 John 00:22:20.50\00:22:24.97 5:18A, where does it say in the Bible that one is born again 00:22:25.01\00:22:33.01 at conversion? 00:22:33.05\00:22:35.32 Doug: All right, thank you. 00:22:35.35\00:22:36.69 Well, the phrase "born again" is used twice in the Bible, once in 00:22:36.72\00:22:40.26 John 3:3 and once in John 3:7. 00:22:40.29\00:22:43.43 Peter alludes to it when he says in 1 Peter 1:23, "Having been 00:22:43.46\00:22:48.30 born again, not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, through 00:22:48.33\00:22:52.53 the Word of God that lives and abides forever." 00:22:52.57\00:22:56.27 The new birth, something like a physical birth, you have 00:22:56.30\00:22:59.84 conception and there might be a period of gestation where 00:22:59.87\00:23:02.78 the Holy Spirit's working on you. 00:23:02.81\00:23:04.58 Very few people have a dramatic instant born again experience 00:23:04.61\00:23:08.35 like Paul does on the road to Damascus, and that is in Acts 00:23:08.38\00:23:12.55 chapter 9--8-- Acts chapter 8, I think. 00:23:12.59\00:23:17.16 Is that right? 00:23:17.19\00:23:18.49 Jëan: Let me look it up? 00:23:18.53\00:23:19.83 Doug: Yeah, and I think it's Acts chapter 9, is where you 00:23:19.86\00:23:22.63 have the conversion of Paul. 00:23:22.66\00:23:24.30 But his is very instant, and where Jesus is talking to 00:23:24.33\00:23:27.87 Nicodemus, He says, "You must be born again," He's talking about 00:23:27.90\00:23:31.01 your heart needs to be changed. 00:23:31.04\00:23:32.81 When God says, "I'll put a new heart within you," that 00:23:32.84\00:23:34.71 is conversion. 00:23:34.74\00:23:36.31 And in the New Covenant, God writes His law in our heart. 00:23:36.34\00:23:39.81 Ezekiel talks about, "I'll put a new heart in you." 00:23:39.85\00:23:43.39 Moses talks about the circumcision of the heart. 00:23:43.42\00:23:45.45 So when the heart is changed, that is synonymous with 00:23:45.49\00:23:49.52 the new birth. 00:23:49.56\00:23:50.96 Jëan: Yeah, the chapter you're thinking of, Acts chapter 9, you 00:23:50.99\00:23:53.63 read from verse 1 all the way through verse 19, he's on the 00:23:53.66\00:23:56.20 road to Damascus and then also he repeats--Paul repeats that 00:23:56.23\00:24:00.44 testimony, his testimony, in Acts 22, verse 6 through 16. 00:24:00.47\00:24:04.64 So there, very powerful conversion that took 00:24:04.67\00:24:06.78 place there. 00:24:06.81\00:24:08.14 Doug: But with most people, it's something that 00:24:08.18\00:24:10.11 happens gradually. 00:24:10.15\00:24:11.45 You're hearing the Word, the Word is sprouting, something's 00:24:11.48\00:24:13.45 happening, and finally you come to the conclusion, "I'm going to 00:24:13.48\00:24:16.45 make a surrender." 00:24:16.48\00:24:17.82 So when you make that surrender because your heart has been 00:24:17.85\00:24:19.99 transformed and you give everything to the Lord and trust 00:24:20.02\00:24:23.59 in His sacrifice, repent of your sins, that's a new birth, and 00:24:23.63\00:24:29.00 there should be a change in direction. 00:24:29.03\00:24:30.87 That's what conversion means, you're doing a U-turn. 00:24:30.90\00:24:34.47 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Charles 00:24:34.50\00:24:36.47 in California. 00:24:36.50\00:24:37.84 Charles, welcome to "Bible Answers Live," you're on 00:24:37.87\00:24:39.64 the air. 00:24:39.67\00:24:41.28 Charles: God bless you both. 00:24:41.31\00:24:43.11 Two part question, do you know about what year, how long ago, 00:24:43.14\00:24:48.45 the Bible was written, and also, can we prove the accuracy of the 00:24:48.48\00:24:55.12 Bible and prove that Christianity is the true 00:24:55.16\00:24:59.16 religion of God? 00:24:59.19\00:25:01.36 Doug: All right, thank you. 00:25:01.40\00:25:03.03 Well, I obviously think there's proof because I'm hanging my 00:25:03.06\00:25:05.83 life on that and I used to be an atheist, and through reading the 00:25:05.87\00:25:09.40 Bible I believe the evidence was so compelling. 00:25:09.44\00:25:12.77 There's no ancient document that is better substantiated 00:25:12.81\00:25:17.91 than the Bible. 00:25:17.95\00:25:19.28 Now, when we say Bible, and you say, "When was the Bible 00:25:19.31\00:25:20.88 written," keep in mind the word "Bible" comes from the word 00:25:20.92\00:25:23.25 "biblios," which used to be the word for "book" or "books," 00:25:23.28\00:25:26.76 because the Bible is a collection of 66 books, and 00:25:26.79\00:25:30.26 you've got the 27 in the New Testament, 39 in 00:25:30.29\00:25:32.99 the Old Testament. 00:25:33.03\00:25:34.30 The Old Testament was written over a period of 1500 years. 00:25:34.36\00:25:38.30 Well, the whole Bible over 1500 years. 00:25:38.33\00:25:41.00 The Old Testament was written starting with Moses about 1400 00:25:41.04\00:25:44.87 BC and up until about 400 BC, where the last book written by 00:25:44.91\00:25:51.11 Malachi, The New Testament didn't start really being 00:25:51.15\00:25:54.28 written, the life of Christ, I think they say about 40 AD Mark 00:25:54.32\00:25:58.59 wrote his gospel. 00:25:58.62\00:26:00.22 And then the other New Testament writers between 40 AD and 100, 00:26:00.26\00:26:04.29 the Book of Revelation, 100 AD, was the last book. 00:26:04.33\00:26:07.30 As far as its accuracy, the accuracy of the Old Testament, I 00:26:07.36\00:26:10.83 think, has been proved beyond question with the discovery of 00:26:10.87\00:26:13.54 the Dead Sea Scrolls that contained copies of the Old 00:26:13.57\00:26:16.97 Testament that pre-dated Jesus. 00:26:17.01\00:26:20.18 And they have been carefully scrutinized, it had parts of 00:26:20.21\00:26:23.14 every book in the Bible, except the book of Esther, and it 00:26:23.18\00:26:26.31 probably was out there somewhere, but they never 00:26:26.35\00:26:27.72 found it. 00:26:27.75\00:26:29.08 And when they compare those texts, 2000 years old, with 00:26:29.12\00:26:33.19 modern versions, they're, like, 98% identical. 00:26:33.22\00:26:37.06 Any difference was just very minor. 00:26:37.09\00:26:39.53 You'd appreciate a book we've got that we're offering tonight, 00:26:39.56\00:26:42.06 "The Ultimate Resource." 00:26:42.10\00:26:43.40 We'd be happy to send you a free copy of that, Charles. 00:26:43.43\00:26:46.30 Just go to the website and who have 00:33:20.33\00:33:23.60 sent us their email questions, and so we want to thank those 00:33:23.63\00:33:26.67 who emailed us. 00:33:26.70\00:33:28.04 If you'd like to send us an email question, the address 00:33:28.07\00:33:30.01 is easy. 00:33:30.04\00:33:31.37 It's just simply BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:33:31.41\00:33:32.77 BAL, that's "Bible Answers 00:33:32.81\00:33:36.81 Live," BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:33:36.85\00:33:38.18 Pastor Doug, Sandry is asking, she obviously has read your 00:33:38.21\00:33:44.19 book, and she says, "How long was it from the time that you 00:33:44.22\00:33:47.32 were baptized, living in the cave, until you quit smoking?" 00:33:47.36\00:33:51.49 Doug: Okay, some people that have read my testimony, you've 00:33:51.53\00:33:54.20 heard it online, that I was baptized a little too soon. 00:33:54.20\00:33:58.53 I was living up in the mountains in a cave and some Calvary 00:33:58.57\00:34:02.80 Baptist gentlemen hiked by and they asked if I was a Christian 00:34:02.84\00:34:05.91 and I said, "I just accepted Jesus from reading the Bible 00:34:05.94\00:34:09.38 someone left in the cave," and they said, "Oh, you got to get 00:34:09.41\00:34:11.21 baptized," and I really didn't know what I was getting into, 00:34:11.25\00:34:13.88 and so they baptized me. 00:34:13.92\00:34:15.25 I'm still smoking, drinking, using drugs, and anyway--but I 00:34:15.28\00:34:20.66 didn't quit smoking, I don't think, for another probably two, 00:34:20.69\00:34:23.83 two and a half years, and I was re-baptized in Northern 00:34:23.86\00:34:27.76 California and I've not smoked since. 00:34:27.76\00:34:29.96 So you want to have these addictions behind you, but don't 00:34:30.00\00:34:33.44 let my two and a half years give you an excuse to wait. 00:34:33.47\00:34:36.64 Today is the day, if you hear his voice. 00:34:36.67\00:34:39.54 Jëan: All right, we have another person who emailed us. 00:34:39.57\00:34:41.98 We have Lizlyn, who is asking, "Would you kindly explain 00:34:42.01\00:34:45.61 Revelation 8:1? 00:34:45.65\00:34:46.98 What is the reason for a half an hour of silence in heaven?" 00:34:47.02\00:34:51.45 Doug: Yeah, that's a great question. 00:34:51.49\00:34:53.89 Well, you know, God is typically surrounded by angels that are 00:34:53.92\00:34:57.43 giving Him glory and singing, and but when Christ comes, it 00:34:57.46\00:35:01.70 says He's coming with all of the angels to redeem or to rescue 00:35:01.73\00:35:07.54 and, during the Second Coming, so the saints are called up to 00:35:07.57\00:35:10.57 meet Him in the air. 00:35:10.61\00:35:12.07 That's probably because heaven's been emptied by everyone coming 00:35:12.11\00:35:16.34 to save--or for the resurrection, Second Coming 00:35:16.38\00:35:20.62 of Christ. 00:35:20.65\00:35:21.98 And it says, "About the space of half an hour." 00:35:22.02\00:35:25.45 Now, if a day is a year in prophecy, and there are 360 days 00:35:25.49\00:35:29.62 in a Jewish year, 15 days would be an hour. 00:35:29.66\00:35:36.56 Half of 15 days would be--or half an hour would be about 00:35:36.60\00:35:41.20 seven days. 00:35:41.24\00:35:42.54 So that's a nice Bible number. 00:35:42.57\00:35:44.14 So, we think that that's the seven day period when Christ 00:35:44.17\00:35:48.48 leaves heaven, comes to earth, rescues, and raptures, and 00:35:48.51\00:35:51.38 brings us back to the kingdom. 00:35:51.41\00:35:53.08 Jëan: All right, final email question, Pastor Doug. 00:35:53.11\00:35:54.78 Chris is asking, "Why did the demons demand to go into the 00:35:54.82\00:35:57.69 pigs if the pigs were going to be killed right after they 00:35:57.72\00:36:00.79 possessed them?" 00:36:00.82\00:36:02.52 Doug: Well, the devils are thinking they've outsmarted 00:36:02.56\00:36:05.13 the Lord. 00:36:05.16\00:36:06.49 The devil wanted to get the community to drive Jesus away, 00:36:06.53\00:36:09.26 which worked. 00:36:09.30\00:36:10.63 What happened is--but their plan backfired. 00:36:10.67\00:36:14.34 When Jesus cast a legion, thousands of devils, out of this 00:36:14.37\00:36:19.47 man, this one man, and the devil said, "Don't cast us into the 00:36:19.51\00:36:22.64 abyssos, " into the nothingness, "but cast us into this herd of 00:36:22.68\00:36:25.18 pigs," that was up on the hill. 00:36:25.21\00:36:26.78 There was about 2000 of them, the book of Matthew tells us, 00:36:26.82\00:36:29.82 and Jesus said, "Go." 00:36:29.85\00:36:31.19 The pigs went out of the man-- or the demons went out of the 00:36:31.22\00:36:33.29 man, went into this herd of pigs, the pigs went berserk, 00:36:33.32\00:36:36.73 and they stampede off a cliff into the Sea of Galilee. 00:36:36.76\00:36:40.16 Well, the people in the area-- this was a financial, not only 00:36:40.20\00:36:44.00 called a toxic waste dump, but it it was a financial disaster 00:36:44.03\00:36:48.20 for them because they were raising them. 00:36:48.24\00:36:50.67 This is a city, Decapolis, they're not all Jews in the 00:36:50.71\00:36:53.88 area, and they were raising the pigs for food, you know. 00:36:53.91\00:36:57.81 And that 2000 pigs, that was just--they said, "Jesus, 00:36:57.85\00:37:01.22 please leave. 00:37:01.25\00:37:02.58 It costs too much having you around." 00:37:02.62\00:37:04.35 So Jesus left. 00:37:04.39\00:37:05.85 But what ended up happening is this man who's converted, he 00:37:05.89\00:37:08.66 went everywhere and told how Jesus saved him from demons. 00:37:08.69\00:37:11.73 And those 2000 pigs that drowned began to float all over a great 00:37:11.76\00:37:15.83 big Jewish lake, and everybody in Israel heard about the 00:37:15.86\00:37:19.23 miracle because of what happened with the pigs. 00:37:19.27\00:37:22.74 So, all three Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke tell 00:37:22.77\00:37:25.91 this story of the demoniac, because, probably they all knew 00:37:25.94\00:37:31.11 about the toxic spill of pork chops floating in the Sea 00:37:31.15\00:37:34.85 of Galilee. 00:37:34.88\00:37:36.18 So, Jesus turned the devil's plan back on them, and when 00:37:36.22\00:37:39.19 Christ came back to that area, they were all ready to 00:37:39.22\00:37:41.82 receive Him. 00:37:41.86\00:37:43.19 Jëan: Okay, we have Ely listening in Kansas. 00:37:43.22\00:37:46.03 Ely, welcome to the program. 00:37:46.06\00:37:47.60 Ely: Yeah, it's just a quick question, when it says to 00:37:47.66\00:37:51.43 be perfect. 00:37:51.47\00:37:53.37 So in 1 Peter 1:16 says that "Be a saint because I am saint," and 00:37:53.40\00:38:00.38 too much people have said that you have to be perfect, and also 00:38:00.41\00:38:04.41 in the other verse that said that, "If you are not saint, you 00:38:04.45\00:38:08.82 can't see God when He returns." 00:38:08.85\00:38:11.52 Like, what does that mean? 00:38:11.55\00:38:12.89 Doug: Yeah, how perfect does a Christian need to be? 00:38:12.92\00:38:16.29 First of all, I'll give you an answer, but make sure anybody 00:38:16.32\00:38:19.76 that wants to know about this, the best book on that, Amazing 00:38:19.79\00:38:22.43 Facts carries, and we'll send it to you free. 00:38:22.46\00:38:25.20 "Is it Possible to Live Without Sinning?" 00:38:25.23\00:38:28.20 And it's an amazing book by Joe Crews and it has a really 00:38:28.24\00:38:31.61 balanced approach. 00:38:31.64\00:38:33.07 Now, everything depends on "What do you mean by perfect?" 00:38:33.11\00:38:36.31 Some people think, "Well, perfect," they picture you've 00:38:36.34\00:38:39.05 got this sterile, stainless-steel robot that is, 00:38:39.08\00:38:42.05 you know, just walking through society, no temptation, and 00:38:42.08\00:38:46.15 no flaws. 00:38:46.19\00:38:48.29 Is that what it's saying? 00:38:48.32\00:38:49.62 Now, Jesus says in Matthew, "Be therefore perfect, as your 00:38:49.66\00:38:52.33 Father in heaven is perfect." 00:38:52.36\00:38:54.10 The context of what he's talking about is loving your neighbor. 00:38:54.10\00:38:56.90 He's talking about perfect love. 00:38:56.93\00:38:58.70 If you read the same thing that Christ says in Luke, look at 00:38:58.73\00:39:01.47 Luke 6:36, He says, "Therefore be merciful, even as your Father 00:39:01.50\00:39:06.54 in heaven." 00:39:06.57\00:39:07.91 God wants us to have perfect mercy, patience, and love, and 00:39:07.94\00:39:09.91 forgiveness for others. 00:39:09.94\00:39:11.48 Jesus said, "If we don't love and forgive others, then God 00:39:11.51\00:39:14.48 is not going to forgive us." 00:39:14.52\00:39:15.95 And so with the Holy Spirit, we can really love people, we can 00:39:15.98\00:39:19.65 forgive people, and God wants us to have that attitude. 00:39:19.69\00:39:24.56 God is love, if we don't learn to love, then we can't be in the 00:39:24.59\00:39:29.16 kingdom, because everyone there is loving. 00:39:29.20\00:39:31.90 Now, when you think about perfection, you know, whenever 00:39:31.93\00:39:34.34 we have an anointing service, we read from James where he talks 00:39:34.37\00:39:38.81 about praying, and God will hear your prayers and believe and 00:39:38.84\00:39:41.78 don't think you have to be perfect to have your 00:39:41.81\00:39:43.81 prayers heard. 00:39:43.85\00:39:45.15 Look at how God answered the prayers of Elijah, who goes to 00:39:45.18\00:39:48.55 heaven in a fiery chariot, so we know he's making it 00:39:48.58\00:39:50.65 to heaven. 00:39:50.69\00:39:51.92 He made it already, and He says, "Yet he was a man subject to the 00:39:51.95\00:39:54.72 same weakness and temptations that we are." 00:39:54.76\00:39:57.89 Now, he overcame, but Elijah got discouraged, Elijah had some ups 00:39:57.93\00:40:02.53 and downs, he misunderstood God and ran from Jezebel. 00:40:02.56\00:40:06.27 So, God is telling us, "Don't get discouraged if you look in 00:40:06.30\00:40:09.24 the mirror and you say, 'I'm just--I don't know how God's 00:40:09.27\00:40:11.57 going to save me. 00:40:11.61\00:40:12.91 I'm so selfish, I've got all these problems."' 00:40:12.94\00:40:15.78 If you look at yourself, you're going to think, 00:40:15.81\00:40:17.45 how can I be saved? 00:40:17.48\00:40:19.18 If you look at Jesus, you'll think, how can I be lost? 00:40:19.21\00:40:22.32 Because He is so good, He is so loving, He has done so much to 00:40:22.35\00:40:25.89 save us. 00:40:25.92\00:40:27.22 So, what does it mean to be a perfect Christian? 00:40:27.26\00:40:29.76 It means have the same kind of love and faith of walking with 00:40:29.79\00:40:34.10 God like Enoch, believing and praying to God like Elijah, 00:40:34.13\00:40:38.73 trusting in the Lord like David, and standing up for God like 00:40:38.77\00:40:42.14 Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 00:40:42.17\00:40:45.27 And you can do that, we can be like those people, and God's 00:40:45.31\00:40:49.18 calling us to that. 00:40:49.21\00:40:50.71 And don't get discouraged. 00:40:50.75\00:40:52.05 God--keep in mind, friends, God is a better savior than 00:40:52.08\00:40:55.92 the devil is a tempter. 00:40:55.95\00:40:57.55 Don't give the devil more credit to be able to make you be lost 00:40:57.59\00:41:02.06 than you're going to give God credit to be able to save you. 00:41:02.09\00:41:05.66 Otherwise, you've got a bigger devil than a savior. 00:41:05.69\00:41:08.43 So read that book, I'll tell you again, it's called "Is it 00:41:08.46\00:41:11.77 Possible to Live Without Sinning?" 00:41:11.80\00:41:13.57 You'll be encouraged by that. 00:41:13.60\00:41:15.17 Jëan: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747, 00:41:15.20\00:41:19.67 and ask for the book. 00:41:19.71\00:41:21.04 It's called "Is it Possible to Live Without Sinning?" 00:41:21.08\00:41:23.45 Now, you can also get the book, you can call and ask, or you can 00:41:23.48\00:41:26.15 dial pound 250 on your smartphone, say, "Bible Answers 00:41:26.18\00:41:29.95 Live," and then ask for the book, "Is it Possible to Live 00:41:29.98\00:41:32.45 Without Sinning?" 00:41:32.49\00:41:33.79 You'll receive a digital download, and if you're outside 00:41:33.82\00:41:35.96 of North America, just go to the website, amazingfacts.org. 00:41:35.99\00:41:39.59 Pastor Doug, I think you've got a Bible verse you want 00:41:39.63\00:41:42.43 to add to that. 00:41:42.46\00:41:43.83 Doug: Yeah, well, I was thinking about just--this is such 00:41:43.87\00:41:45.30 an important question because so many folks get discouraged 00:41:45.33\00:41:47.47 and think, "Oh, I'm never going to be good enough." 00:41:47.50\00:41:49.20 The apostle Paul, who wrote almost half of the New 00:41:49.24\00:41:51.64 Testament, he said, "I do not count myself to have 00:41:51.67\00:41:54.38 apprehended, but I press on." 00:41:54.41\00:41:56.81 But at the end of his life, he says, "I have fought a good 00:41:56.85\00:41:59.05 fight, and there's a crown of righteousness laid up for me." 00:41:59.08\00:42:01.52 He knew he was saved. 00:42:01.55\00:42:03.05 "I know whom I believed in. 00:42:03.08\00:42:04.45 I'm persuaded He's able to keep that which I've committed 00:42:04.49\00:42:06.76 to Him." 00:42:06.79\00:42:08.09 But if you ask Paul during his life, "Do you 00:42:08.12\00:42:09.49 think you're perfect?" 00:42:09.52\00:42:10.83 He says, "I don't count myself to be perfect." 00:42:10.86\00:42:12.43 So, you may--you're probably never going to feel like you're 00:42:12.46\00:42:15.26 perfect, but don't lose faith that God can finish what He 00:42:15.30\00:42:18.40 started in your life. 00:42:18.43\00:42:20.10 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Eric in Texas. 00:42:20.14\00:42:22.74 Eric, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:42:22.77\00:42:25.01 Eric: Hi, Pastor Doug. 00:42:25.04\00:42:26.54 Doug: Hi Eric, thanks for calling. 00:42:26.57\00:42:28.28 Eric: I got a question, "Does the Antichrist and the false 00:42:28.31\00:42:32.85 prophet help Satan fight against God when He comes back?" 00:42:32.88\00:42:38.62 Well, the Antichrist and the false prophet are 00:42:38.65\00:42:41.19 in confederacy. 00:42:41.22\00:42:43.16 It talks about the the beast, the dragon, and the 00:42:43.19\00:42:45.59 false prophet. 00:42:45.63\00:42:47.23 They're all in confederacy together in opposing God, and so 00:42:47.23\00:42:52.00 when Christ is seen coming and there's a vision of His coming-- 00:42:52.03\00:42:55.04 in Revelation, is it the 19-- he comes riding on the white 00:42:55.07\00:42:58.17 horse, and yeah, he's coming to execute judgment. 00:42:58.21\00:43:03.11 And I think in Revelation 20 doesn't it say Satan, not only 00:43:03.14\00:43:06.98 Satan, but the beast and the false prophet are all cast 00:43:07.02\00:43:08.98 in the lake of fire. 00:43:09.02\00:43:10.35 Jëan: That's right. 00:43:10.39\00:43:11.69 Doug: So there you've got the great nemesis and the great hero 00:43:11.72\00:43:15.92 pictured there. 00:43:15.96\00:43:17.29 Jëan: Yeah, you have this counterfeit trinity that 00:43:17.33\00:43:19.66 the Bible describes. 00:43:19.69\00:43:20.96 You have the true Trinity; the Father, the Son, and 00:43:21.00\00:43:22.46 the Holy Spirit. 00:43:22.50\00:43:23.83 Then you have the devil's trinity; the dragon, the beast, 00:43:23.87\00:43:25.40 and the false prophet. 00:43:25.43\00:43:26.90 And just as the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are united in 00:43:26.94\00:43:29.80 their work of saving mankind, the dragon, the beast, and the 00:43:29.84\00:43:32.77 false prophet are uniting the work of destroying mankind, 00:43:32.81\00:43:36.95 leading them into sin, bringing about destruction. 00:43:36.98\00:43:39.81 And so this coalition exists right at the very end. 00:43:39.85\00:43:43.08 We do have a study guide that talks about who is 00:43:43.12\00:43:45.35 the Antichrist. 00:43:45.39\00:43:46.72 It's an important study and it'll go into detail on this. 00:43:46.76\00:43:50.16 The Bible warns us and says, "Don't worship the beast or his 00:43:50.19\00:43:52.53 image, don't receive his mark." 00:43:52.56\00:43:54.20 So we need to understand what this Antichrist or beast 00:43:54.23\00:43:57.03 power is. 00:43:57.07\00:43:58.37 To receive it, call 800-835-6747. 00:43:58.40\00:44:02.14 Again, that's 800-835-6747, and you can ask for the study guide. 00:44:02.17\00:44:06.94 It's "Who is the Antichrist?" 00:44:06.98\00:44:08.28 You can dial pound 250. 00:44:08.31\00:44:10.31 And again, just ask for it, "Who is the Antichrist?" 00:44:10.35\00:44:13.65 Marlene in California. 00:44:13.68\00:44:15.02 Marlene, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:44:15.05\00:44:17.52 Marlene: Hi, how are you guys? 00:44:17.55\00:44:18.92 Hi Pastor Doug, hi Jëan. 00:44:18.95\00:44:22.52 Hi, I wanted to ask a question. 00:44:22.56\00:44:25.43 What does the Bible say about women being ordained ministers 00:44:25.46\00:44:31.30 and preaching in the pulpit? 00:44:31.33\00:44:33.74 Is there such a--does God speak on that or does He not? 00:44:33.77\00:44:39.24 Doug: Yeah, I think the Bible's pretty clear that God has called 00:44:39.27\00:44:44.11 men to be the servant leaders in the family and the church is an 00:44:44.15\00:44:47.82 extension of the family. 00:44:47.85\00:44:50.69 But yeah, you're asking two questions there, so I want to 00:44:50.72\00:44:52.62 make sure that I bifurcate my answer. 00:44:52.65\00:44:54.69 One is about women speaking in the church, you talked about 00:44:54.72\00:44:56.96 them preaching or teaching in the pulpit. 00:44:56.99\00:44:59.06 There's a thin line between preaching and teaching. 00:44:59.09\00:45:01.90 Sometimes my preaching is teaching and sometimes you get 00:45:01.93\00:45:04.33 a little preaching, and it's different. 00:45:04.37\00:45:06.20 The other you ask is about women being ordained as pastors. 00:45:06.23\00:45:10.17 There's no example in the Bible of a woman baptizing or 00:45:10.21\00:45:15.04 offering sacrifice. 00:45:15.08\00:45:17.15 That was usually the men, the sons of Aaron were called to do 00:45:17.18\00:45:21.68 that, Abraham did it, Jacob, Isaac, the patriarchs were the 00:45:21.72\00:45:26.02 ones who let out in the priestly functions. 00:45:26.05\00:45:29.12 And so in the New Testament, it says that an elder should be the 00:45:29.16\00:45:32.76 husband of one wife. 00:45:32.79\00:45:34.73 And so all through the Bible, of course, there's a reason Jesus 00:45:34.76\00:45:37.03 chose 12 men to be pastors, and He--Jesus certainly went 00:45:37.07\00:45:42.40 against the tide in many things that He did. 00:45:42.44\00:45:44.54 He could have gone against that tradition and see if it was 00:45:44.57\00:45:47.54 wrong, but He perpetuated it. 00:45:47.58\00:45:50.35 And then when they replaced Judas, they replaced--they 00:45:50.38\00:45:55.32 said, "Choose from among you a man." 00:45:55.35\00:45:57.92 And then when they were picking the deacons, it said, "Choose 00:45:57.95\00:46:00.36 out from among you seven men." 00:46:00.39\00:46:02.26 And so, consistently when people were ordained in a special sense 00:46:02.29\00:46:07.20 for positions of leadership, teaching positions, they 00:46:07.23\00:46:10.80 were men. 00:46:10.83\00:46:12.07 But when you have a man who's a pastor of a church, he will 00:46:12.10\00:46:14.77 recognize gifts of ministry in women and invite them to teach 00:46:14.80\00:46:19.14 or preach something God has shared, because you have 00:46:19.17\00:46:20.98 examples of women, you have prophetess in the Bible where 00:46:21.01\00:46:24.61 God gave them a message. 00:46:24.65\00:46:26.15 And Deborah and Huldah and Hannah, I guess in a sense she 00:46:26.18\00:46:29.75 was a prophetess when she spoke there. 00:46:29.78\00:46:31.95 There's several others that don't come to mind right now. 00:46:31.99\00:46:34.86 But we have a free book we'll send you that's just got the 00:46:34.89\00:46:38.26 Scriptures on this and you can draw your own conclusions. 00:46:38.29\00:46:40.96 It's called "Women in Ministry," and I think God has called all 00:46:40.96\00:46:44.57 believers to ministry, to share their gifts in sharing 00:46:44.60\00:46:47.74 the gospel. 00:46:47.77\00:46:49.07 But there is a distinction in the roles of men and women and I 00:46:49.10\00:46:51.94 know that's not popular in our culture that is trying to erase 00:46:51.97\00:46:55.24 any distinction between genders, but the Bible's pretty clear 00:46:55.28\00:46:58.55 there are differences. 00:46:58.58\00:46:59.91 There's a reason that God says, "A man should not put on a 00:46:59.95\00:47:03.15 woman's clothing, neither should a woman put on a man's 00:47:03.18\00:47:06.22 clothing," and that's Deuteronomy, I think, 18:22, 00:47:06.25\00:47:09.22 "All that do so are an abomination." 00:47:09.26\00:47:11.46 God wants us to celebrate these differences, not to blur them. 00:47:11.49\00:47:15.70 Thanks, I hope that helps a little bit, Marlene, 00:47:15.73\00:47:17.67 with your question. 00:47:17.70\00:47:19.00 Jëan: Again, the number is 800-835-6747, and ask for 00:47:19.03\00:47:22.50 the book, "Women in Ministry." 00:47:22.54\00:47:24.41 You can call pound 250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:47:24.44\00:47:27.51 Live," and then ask for the book that way. 00:47:27.54\00:47:30.21 James in Tennessee, James, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:47:30.25\00:47:33.95 James: Oh yes, thank you all so much. 00:47:33.98\00:47:35.88 I worry a lot about Jeremiah chapter 8, verse 8, because it 00:47:35.92\00:47:41.76 seems like the prophets are here--like, I don't know if 00:47:41.79\00:47:45.23 they're actually lying in the verse or what this verse 00:47:45.26\00:47:47.60 actually means, because I was wondering also that Sabbath, 00:47:47.60\00:47:52.17 the word "Sabbath" don't mean church. 00:47:52.20\00:47:54.24 And how do we know how--why wasn't going to church one of 00:47:54.27\00:47:58.61 the Ten Commandments? 00:47:58.64\00:48:00.24 Like, "Thou shalt go to church" or make the commandments 00:48:00.28\00:48:02.98 a little bit longer. 00:48:03.01\00:48:04.35 And reminds me of, like, Jeremiah chapter 8, verse 8. 00:48:04.38\00:48:09.58 Can you explain that verse and explain why it don't mention the 00:48:09.62\00:48:12.39 church and the commandments? 00:48:12.42\00:48:13.96 Doug: Yeah, well, in Jeremiah chapter 8, I think I've got the 00:48:13.99\00:48:17.53 right verse here, verse 8. "How can you say, 'We are wise, and 00:48:17.56\00:48:21.26 the law of the Lord is with us?' 00:48:21.30\00:48:22.76 Look, the false pen of the scribe certainly 00:48:22.80\00:48:25.03 works falsehood. 00:48:25.07\00:48:26.40 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken." 00:48:26.43\00:48:29.40 Now Jeremiah--it's interesting you ask this, I just finished 00:48:29.44\00:48:32.01 reading the entire book of Jeremiah in the last couple of 00:48:32.04\00:48:35.08 weeks and was reading these passages. 00:48:35.11\00:48:38.31 Jeremiah is telling the people of Israel, as they're being 00:48:38.35\00:48:41.42 surrounded by the Chaldeans, or the Babylonians, that you're 00:48:41.45\00:48:46.42 saying, "Well, we've got the commandments, we've got the law 00:48:46.45\00:48:48.92 with us, we've got the Ten Commandments and the ark, 00:48:48.96\00:48:51.43 God is with us," yet they were living wickedly. 00:48:51.46\00:48:53.50 He said, "Don't say that you've got the law with you, that's not 00:48:53.53\00:48:55.73 going to save you if you're not obeying it." 00:48:55.76\00:48:57.73 So that's really what he's talking about in this passage. 00:48:57.77\00:49:00.50 Just because you say, "I've got a scribe with us, we've got the 00:49:00.54\00:49:02.94 law with us," but the scribes are not teaching the truth. 00:49:02.97\00:49:06.54 He's not talking about the writing of the Bible, he's 00:49:06.57\00:49:08.38 talking about what their interpretations of it was. 00:49:08.41\00:49:10.01 Because the Scriptures had been written by the prophets. 00:49:10.05\00:49:13.31 Scribes basically were the ones who were dissecting the Word. 00:49:13.35\00:49:16.89 Jesus had problems with the scribes in His day too. 00:49:16.92\00:49:20.76 Jëan: And then you mentioned also the, you know, the 00:49:20.79\00:49:22.76 Sabbath commandment. 00:49:22.79\00:49:24.13 The Sabbath commandment doesn't say, "Well, that's a day you 00:49:24.16\00:49:26.36 have to go to church," but the Bible does talk--speak about 00:49:26.39\00:49:28.70 a holy convocation where people were to gather together 00:49:28.73\00:49:31.67 and worship. 00:49:31.70\00:49:32.93 And there's many examples that we have in the Old Testament, 00:49:32.97\00:49:34.60 also in the New Testament, where people gathered together 00:49:34.64\00:49:37.47 to worship and that is very appropriate to do on 00:49:37.51\00:49:40.64 the Sabbath. 00:49:40.68\00:49:41.98 Doug: Holy assembly. 00:49:42.01\00:49:43.75 Jëan: Yeah, Paul says, "Do not neglect the gathering yourselves 00:49:43.78\00:49:45.68 together," speaking about church, especially as you see 00:49:45.71\00:49:48.42 the day approaching, the day of the Second Coming of Christ. 00:49:48.45\00:49:50.35 Doug: And a Christian is a follower of Christ, and the 00:49:50.39\00:49:52.75 Bible says, "Jesus, as His custom was, He went to the 00:49:52.79\00:49:57.16 synagogue on the Sabbath day." 00:49:57.19\00:49:58.79 So He gives us an example there. 00:49:58.83\00:50:00.83 Jëan: Okay, next one that we have is Frank in Oregon. 00:50:00.86\00:50:03.23 Frank, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:50:03.26\00:50:05.20 Frank: Hello Pastor Doug, I got a question for you. 00:50:05.23\00:50:10.21 In Isaiah 2:4, it talks about what will happen when the 00:50:10.24\00:50:15.88 Messiah comes, and it says, "He shall judge between the nations, 00:50:15.91\00:50:20.58 and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into 00:50:20.62\00:50:23.89 plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations 00:50:23.92\00:50:27.49 shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn 00:50:27.52\00:50:30.96 war anymore." 00:50:30.99\00:50:32.73 Now, as I see it, the wars have continued and nations have 00:50:32.76\00:50:38.10 fought and none of that has come to pass, and I think that's why 00:50:38.13\00:50:43.61 the Jewish people are rejecting that Christ was the Messiah, and 00:50:43.64\00:50:47.91 how does that jive with what is currently preached 00:50:47.94\00:50:51.78 in Christianity? 00:50:51.81\00:50:53.31 Doug: This is talking about the Second Coming of Jesus. 00:50:53.35\00:50:56.22 There are two kinds of Old Testament messianic prophecy. 00:50:56.25\00:50:59.85 Some are talking about Christ coming as a sacrifice, that's 00:50:59.89\00:51:03.02 what you read in Isaiah chapter 53. 00:51:03.06\00:51:05.09 "He's bruised for our iniquities, and we're healed 00:51:05.13\00:51:09.16 by His stripes." 00:51:09.20\00:51:10.50 He suffered, He's a suffering servant. 00:51:10.53\00:51:12.33 He opens not His mouth, and he goes to trial. 00:51:12.37\00:51:14.54 And so this is the Jesus's First Coming as a lamb, He comes 00:51:14.57\00:51:19.21 the second time as a lion. 00:51:19.24\00:51:20.54 The wicked are destroyed, He creates a new heaven and 00:51:20.58\00:51:23.04 a new earth. 00:51:23.08\00:51:24.38 Isaiah also talks about that where the wolf lies down with 00:51:24.41\00:51:26.61 the lamb, the lion and the ox are--they get along together, 00:51:26.65\00:51:30.49 they don't kill each other. 00:51:30.52\00:51:32.22 And in this time of peace, weapons, the spears and swords 00:51:32.25\00:51:37.06 that were used for fighting, they're now going to be used 00:51:37.09\00:51:38.76 for farming. 00:51:38.79\00:51:40.13 So--and they used to do that during the time of Solomon. 00:51:40.16\00:51:42.26 They said, "We got all these armaments, we're in a time of 00:51:42.30\00:51:44.70 peace, we need the iron for our farms." 00:51:44.73\00:51:46.33 And they would change the use of the iron. 00:51:46.37\00:51:49.20 And so, this is a beautiful picture of what the world will 00:51:49.24\00:51:52.91 be like during the Second Coming of Christ, the new heaven, 00:51:52.94\00:51:56.78 the new earth. 00:51:56.81\00:51:58.15 The Jews are applying it to the First Coming, that's the mistake 00:51:58.18\00:52:00.45 they're making. 00:52:00.48\00:52:01.72 Jëan: And even at the time of Christ, there was some confusion 00:52:01.75\00:52:03.72 about this, because, yeah, they were looking for 00:52:03.75\00:52:05.52 a conquering king. 00:52:05.55\00:52:06.89 They didn't understand when Jesus said, "The kingdom of God 00:52:06.92\00:52:09.16 is within you." 00:52:09.19\00:52:10.66 He said, "My kingdom is not of this world, otherwise my 00:52:10.69\00:52:13.43 disciples would fight for it, my followers would fight for it," 00:52:13.46\00:52:15.76 but the kingdoms are going to be His at the Second Coming. 00:52:15.80\00:52:20.20 That's what the disciples said, "Lord, is it now that you're 00:52:20.24\00:52:22.14 going to restore the kingdom?" 00:52:22.17\00:52:23.47 They said after the resurrection. 00:52:23.51\00:52:24.84 So they didn't understand, even then, and Jesus had to explain 00:52:24.87\00:52:26.84 to them, it's not now, it's when he comes the Second Time. 00:52:26.88\00:52:30.25 All right, next caller that we have. 00:52:30.28\00:52:31.58 Let's see, we've got Johnny in Canada. 00:52:31.61\00:52:33.52 Johnny, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:52:33.55\00:52:36.25 Johnny: Thank you for taking my call. 00:52:36.28\00:52:38.15 So I have been studying the two prophecies in Daniel, the 490 00:52:38.19\00:52:43.53 year and then the 1260. 00:52:43.56\00:52:48.20 And looking for subtle connections, I saw something 00:52:48.23\00:52:50.23 that I'm curious what you guys think, and that is when the 00:52:50.27\00:52:55.14 disciples asked Jesus, "How often should I forgive?" 00:52:55.17\00:52:59.21 And He says 70 times 7, which seems to me like a reference to 00:52:59.24\00:53:02.94 490, as, like, a period of forgiveness. 00:53:02.98\00:53:06.08 And so I'm wondering if you see that in anything else with 00:53:06.11\00:53:09.28 perhaps the other prophecy where it's three and a half years and 00:53:09.32\00:53:13.66 Jesus's ministry was three and a half years and the drought of 00:53:13.69\00:53:16.69 Elijah, three and a half years. 00:53:16.73\00:53:18.23 I'm curious if you see any connections with some of 00:53:18.26\00:53:20.50 those remarks. 00:53:20.53\00:53:21.83 Doug: Yeah, it's all connected. 00:53:21.86\00:53:23.16 You've got seven is a number for also, it's God's number for 00:53:23.20\00:53:26.00 perfection, but it's also a number for forgiveness. 00:53:26.03\00:53:28.94 The Bible says a righteous man may fall seven times and 00:53:28.97\00:53:32.31 rise again. 00:53:32.34\00:53:33.78 And Jesus--by the way, in Daniel chapter 9, when it says 00:53:33.81\00:53:39.08 in verse 24, "Seventy weeks are determined for Your people." 00:53:39.11\00:53:41.68 Seventy weeks are cut off for Your people. 00:53:41.72\00:53:45.15 Daniel was saying, "Lord, how much longer are you going to put 00:53:45.19\00:53:47.69 up with Your people before the Messiah comes?" 00:53:47.72\00:53:50.73 Because they kept, kind of, sinning and repenting and 00:53:50.76\00:53:52.99 sinning and repenting up and down, revival, and then there 00:53:53.03\00:53:55.83 was disgrace, and God said, "I'm going to give them another 490 00:53:55.86\00:54:00.20 years of mercy." 00:54:00.24\00:54:02.00 So it's talking about the long-suffering of God, seventy 00:54:02.04\00:54:04.94 times seven. 00:54:04.97\00:54:06.27 And then Peter said, "How often shall I forgive my brother, 00:54:06.31\00:54:07.94 seven times?" 00:54:07.98\00:54:09.28 And Jesus said, "No, seventy times seven." 00:54:09.31\00:54:11.31 He's alluding to the long-suffering of God with 00:54:11.35\00:54:16.08 Israel, and Jesus, of course, came to mark that time that 00:54:16.12\00:54:21.69 Daniel was speaking of. 00:54:21.72\00:54:23.59 So, Christ's baptism was the first part of that 490 year 00:54:23.63\00:54:28.43 prophecy, the Messiah being anointed. 00:54:28.46\00:54:30.73 Jëan: All right, excellent. 00:54:30.77\00:54:32.33 Let's see, we've got time for a few more callers. 00:54:32.37\00:54:34.14 We got Brandon in California. 00:54:34.17\00:54:36.20 Brandon, welcome to the program. 00:54:36.24\00:54:38.81 Brandon: Hi, how are you guys doing today? 00:54:38.84\00:54:40.51 Doug: Doing great, thank you. 00:54:40.54\00:54:42.48 Your call--or your question? 00:54:42.51\00:54:44.61 Brandon: So, in 1 Corinthians 15:1 through 4, it says that 00:54:44.65\00:54:47.78 the gospel was the Christ in Him crucified, I believe, and in 00:54:47.82\00:54:53.09 Revelation 14:6 through 12 is the three angels's messages. 00:54:53.12\00:54:57.63 And my question is about-- because I've heard some of the 00:54:57.66\00:55:00.76 pioneers of the church say that the three angels's message 00:55:00.80\00:55:04.33 is the gospel, but that's not what Paul says. 00:55:04.37\00:55:06.33 Doug: Well, right there in the three angels's message it says 00:55:06.37\00:55:10.17 that they are to preach the everlasting gospel. 00:55:10.21\00:55:14.01 So I'm still not sure why, you know, the angel is given 00:55:14.04\00:55:18.65 the everlasting gospel. 00:55:18.68\00:55:19.98 Why is this a conflict or how is it different from what 00:55:20.02\00:55:21.68 Paul says? 00:55:21.72\00:55:23.18 Brandon: Yeah, you're right. 00:55:23.22\00:55:24.69 It says that it preaches--or it says to preach the everlasting 00:55:24.72\00:55:27.99 gospel, which I guess is life, death, and resurrection 00:55:28.02\00:55:31.43 of Christ. 00:55:31.46\00:55:32.79 Okay, I don't know how to explain my thought process here, 00:55:32.83\00:55:34.56 I'm not very good at that. 00:55:34.56\00:55:35.86 Doug: No, it's all right. 00:55:35.90\00:55:37.20 Yeah, there's no conflict really between the messages of 00:55:37.23\00:55:42.50 the angels. 00:55:42.54\00:55:44.21 The first one is being told to preach the everlasting gospel to 00:55:44.24\00:55:48.44 all the world, and Christ said that He will not come, and this 00:55:48.48\00:55:51.31 is Matthew 24:14, it says, "The gospel of this kingdom will be 00:55:51.35\00:55:56.18 preached in all the world for a witness," doesn't mean everybody 00:55:56.22\00:55:59.02 is going to believe it, "and then the end will come." 00:55:59.05\00:56:03.46 And so, the angel in the heavens is talking about, you know, 00:56:03.49\00:56:07.50 usually something from the heavens means it's going global, 00:56:07.50\00:56:11.10 preaching to the whole world, and they're going to the four 00:56:11.13\00:56:13.10 corners of the earth preaching this message, and that's what's 00:56:13.13\00:56:17.21 going to happen before the end comes. 00:56:17.24\00:56:18.91 And then all through the three angels's messages, not only is 00:56:18.94\00:56:22.21 the message the good news, and part of the gospel is to run 00:56:22.24\00:56:25.55 from sin, repent of your sins. 00:56:25.58\00:56:27.85 The third angel's message, "Beware of the beast and his 00:56:27.88\00:56:30.09 image," is also a message of warning about the devil and sin. 00:56:30.12\00:56:35.59 So you've got the good news, you've got to beware of the 00:56:35.62\00:56:39.13 danger of sin in the three angels's message, that we should 00:56:39.16\00:56:42.70 be worshiping God, part of the gospel is to worship God, and of 00:56:42.73\00:56:46.43 course, the gospel in Revelation says "Christ is the one who was 00:56:46.47\00:56:50.57 dead," that's in the messages to the seven churches, "but He's 00:56:50.61\00:56:53.71 alive forevermore." 00:56:53.74\00:56:55.71 So, yeah, I think that you do find the gospel woven very 00:56:55.74\00:57:00.18 deeply through the fabric of the three angels that we find here 00:57:00.22\00:57:03.92 in Revelation chapter 14. 00:57:03.95\00:57:06.02 We have a lesson on that, and I think that you'll be blessed, 00:57:06.05\00:57:08.72 friends, if you get those--that lesson called "Angel Messages 00:57:08.76\00:57:11.99 From Outer Space." 00:57:12.03\00:57:13.40 Jëan: Our next caller, Pastor Doug, is Thomas, and he's 00:57:13.43\00:57:15.96 listening in Pennsylvania. 00:57:16.00\00:57:17.30 Thomas, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:57:17.33\00:57:19.70 Thomas: Yeah, so I know in Scripture in the Bible, the word 00:57:19.73\00:57:23.34 "Trinity" isn't in the Bible anywhere. 00:57:23.37\00:57:26.04 And I know the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Father and 00:57:26.07\00:57:30.65 the Son, correct? 00:57:30.68\00:57:32.15 Doug: Well, the Holy Spirit is a distinct person, so it does-- 00:57:32.18\00:57:38.22 you know, the Holy Spirit and the Father and Son are all in 00:57:38.25\00:57:40.79 perfect unison together. 00:57:40.82\00:57:42.72 You know, we're going to run out of time. 00:57:42.76\00:57:44.26 Tell you what, rather than cut you off halfway through 00:57:44.29\00:57:47.13 a thought--I guess I kind of did that. 00:57:47.20\00:57:48.56 Sorry, Thomas, but I hope you'll call back next week. 00:57:48.60\00:57:51.43 We do have a book that talks about "Understanding 00:57:51.47\00:57:54.40 the Trinity." 00:57:54.44\00:57:55.74 And if you want, you can get a free copy of that. 00:57:55.77\00:57:57.34 The number, Pastor Ross, real quick.
