¤¤¤ 00:00:00.96\00:00:02.93 male announcer: It is the best selling book in history. 00:00:03.06\00:00:05.60 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted and its 00:00:05.70\00:00:10.04 words sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious should 00:00:10.17\00:00:14.01 always be studied carefully. 00:00:14.04\00:00:16.38 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.41\00:00:19.65 Welcome to 00:00:38.87\00:00:43.91 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International 00:00:43.94\00:00:47.84 Pastor Doug Batchelor 00:00:47.88\00:00:49.98 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:50.01\00:00:51.31 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.35\00:00:54.45 On January 26th 2019, Lisa Grace and Adam Staples were training 00:00:54.48\00:01:00.66 five friends to use their metal detectors in the Chew Valley 00:01:00.69\00:01:04.53 area near Bath, Northeast Somerset, England. 00:01:04.56\00:01:08.03 That's when they stumbled on a hoard of 2,528 silver pennies 00:01:08.06\00:01:13.57 nearly 1,000 years old. 00:01:13.60\00:01:15.94 In October 2024, the coins were bought for 5.5 million making it 00:01:15.97\00:01:21.74 the highest value treasure ever found in the UK. 00:01:21.78\00:01:25.65 The total fine consists of 1,236 coins of Harold II and 00:01:25.68\00:01:31.75 1,310 coins of William I. 00:01:31.79\00:01:35.29 The Chew Valley Hoard, as it's now known, dates from 00:01:35.32\00:01:38.63 the mid-11th century, shortly after the Norman conquest 00:01:38.66\00:01:40.86 of England in 1066. 00:01:40.90\00:01:43.93 Of course, back then, there were no banks in those days and the 00:01:43.97\00:01:46.67 coins may have been buried in a time of war or an effort to 00:01:46.70\00:01:50.27 avoid paying taxes. 00:01:50.31\00:01:51.97 Evidently, the owners died before they could pass on the 00:01:52.01\00:01:55.04 secret hiding place. 00:01:55.08\00:01:56.95 The seven friends who found the coins will split 00:01:56.98\00:01:59.71 5.5 million with the landowner. 00:01:59.75\00:02:02.58 The Chew Valley Hoard is now being displayed at the 00:02:02.62\00:02:05.12 British Museum. 00:02:05.15\00:02:06.52 Think about that, Pastor Ross. 00:02:06.55\00:02:07.92 It'd be kind of exciting every kid's dream that you could dig 00:02:07.96\00:02:10.73 up buried treasure. 00:02:10.76\00:02:12.46 Jëan Ross: I know once you get inspired to go out and buy a 00:02:12.49\00:02:15.26 metal detector and start looking around your yard, you never know 00:02:15.30\00:02:17.77 what you're gonna find. 00:02:17.80\00:02:19.10 Doug: You know, I actually did once I used to go camping. 00:02:19.13\00:02:21.54 You went with us once in Nevada. 00:02:21.57\00:02:23.67 And there's, you know, a lot of minerals out there and I had a 00:02:23.71\00:02:27.21 metal detector and we combed the hills up. 00:02:27.24\00:02:29.21 They usually found like nails and horse shoes and things 00:02:29.24\00:02:31.85 like that. 00:02:31.88\00:02:33.21 But you know, the Bible tells a story about a man who found a 00:02:33.25\00:02:35.55 real treasure in a field and you can read about that 00:02:35.58\00:02:39.05 in Matthew 13:44. 00:02:39.09\00:02:40.86 Jesus said, "Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a 00:02:40.89\00:02:44.36 treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and 00:02:44.39\00:02:49.13 for joy over it he goes and he sells all that he has and buys 00:02:49.16\00:02:52.97 the field." 00:02:53.00\00:02:54.30 So, the picture is, as I mentioned, there were no banks 00:02:54.34\00:02:56.30 back then. 00:02:56.34\00:02:57.64 And people would often bury their treasure and they'd mark 00:02:57.67\00:03:00.71 the spot. 00:03:00.74\00:03:02.08 Well, this man, he's working in a field. 00:03:02.11\00:03:04.18 He's plowing evidently and plow hits something. 00:03:04.21\00:03:07.35 He goes to dig it up and he finds that it's a treasure that, 00:03:07.38\00:03:11.79 you know, ostensibly had been buried years before. 00:03:11.82\00:03:14.62 He covers it back up. 00:03:14.66\00:03:15.96 He said he hides it again. 00:03:15.99\00:03:17.33 Then he says, "Oh, it's not right for me to just take 00:03:17.36\00:03:19.39 the treasure. 00:03:19.43\00:03:20.73 It's not my field, but I'm gonna buy the field 00:03:20.76\00:03:22.06 because I know what's in it." 00:03:22.10\00:03:23.40 And he tells his wife, "We're having a garage sale, we're 00:03:23.43\00:03:26.00 selling everything we've got." 00:03:26.03\00:03:27.67 She says, "You're crazy." 00:03:27.70\00:03:29.30 He says, "Trust me." 00:03:29.34\00:03:30.94 He knows that he's got something that's worth more than 00:03:30.97\00:03:33.64 everything else he owns. 00:03:33.68\00:03:35.31 So, he sells everything to get that field with the treasure 00:03:35.34\00:03:39.05 in it. 00:03:39.08\00:03:40.42 And Jesus, you know, that's an analogy for the cost of 00:03:40.45\00:03:43.82 following Him. 00:03:43.85\00:03:45.09 He says, we must be willing to forsake all, take up our cross 00:03:45.12\00:03:47.92 and follow Him. 00:03:47.96\00:03:49.29 Or it's like that what the merchant who finds a pearl of 00:03:49.32\00:03:51.53 great price and he sells everything to buy that pearl. 00:03:51.56\00:03:54.36 "Friends, what profit is it if you gain the whole world and 00:03:54.40\00:03:57.30 lose your soul?" 00:03:57.33\00:03:58.70 So, there's nothing in this world, no sin that is worth more 00:03:58.73\00:04:01.84 than peace and joy now and an abundant life and everlasting 00:04:01.87\00:04:07.58 life in the world to come. 00:04:07.61\00:04:09.01 And if you'd like to know more about that life, Jesus wants you 00:04:09.04\00:04:11.65 to have it, but He wants all your heart. 00:04:11.68\00:04:14.25 We've got a book that talks about that. 00:04:14.28\00:04:16.15 Jëan: That's right. 00:04:16.18\00:04:17.49 A book titled, "The Riches of His Grace." 00:04:17.52\00:04:19.15 That is a free gift this evening. 00:04:19.19\00:04:20.76 If you'd like to receive it, all you need to do is call and ask 00:04:20.79\00:04:23.73 the number is 800-835-6747. 00:04:23.76\00:04:27.76 And you can ask for the book, "The Riches of His Grace." 00:04:27.76\00:04:30.27 If you have your cell phone handy, you can dial #250 00:04:30.30\00:04:33.47 say, "Bible Answers Live" and then ask for the book by name. 00:04:33.50\00:04:36.50 It's called "The Riches of His Grace." 00:04:36.54\00:04:38.27 You'll get a digital download, you'll be able to read it and 00:04:38.31\00:04:40.71 share it with somebody else. 00:04:40.74\00:04:42.88 Well, Pastor Doug, before we go to the phone lines, as we always 00:04:42.91\00:04:45.21 do, we like to start with the word of prayer. 00:04:45.25\00:04:46.98 Let's do that. 00:04:47.02\00:04:48.35 Dear Father we are so grateful for your Word. 00:04:48.38\00:04:50.22 We are thankful for the truth that the Bible reveals. 00:04:50.25\00:04:53.52 We need not fear the future for we know who holds the future. 00:04:53.56\00:04:56.69 And as we study your Word this evening, we pray that you guide 00:04:56.73\00:04:59.19 us into a clearer and full understanding of Bible truth. 00:04:59.23\00:05:02.43 We ask this in Jesus name, amen. 00:05:02.46\00:05:04.87 Doug: Amen. 00:05:04.90\00:05:06.53 Jëan: We're ready to go to the phone lines and our first caller 00:05:06.57\00:05:08.60 this evening is Jan in California. 00:05:08.64\00:05:10.71 Jan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:10.74\00:05:13.04 Jan: Thank you for taking my call. 00:05:13.07\00:05:14.98 My question is I have some friends who are painting Jesus 00:05:15.01\00:05:20.05 as a tyrant and it's all about John 2:14 and 15 when Jesus was 00:05:20.08\00:05:27.79 cleansing the temple because in John, it describes how Jesus 00:05:27.82\00:05:32.46 made a whip out of cords. 00:05:32.49\00:05:35.06 They are putting up pictures and saying that He was whipping the 00:05:35.10\00:05:39.20 people and the animals. 00:05:39.23\00:05:41.57 I've never seen it that way. 00:05:41.60\00:05:43.77 And I just wondered if there is some Bible reference that would 00:05:43.81\00:05:47.38 refute that. 00:05:47.41\00:05:49.44 Doug: Yeah. 00:05:49.48\00:05:50.71 Well, first of all, the verse itself doesn't say He whipped 00:05:50.75\00:05:52.98 anybody or any creature. 00:05:53.01\00:05:54.42 It says He made a whip and drove. 00:05:54.45\00:05:56.12 Well, let me read it for everybody. 00:05:56.15\00:05:57.49 If you go to John chapter 2, and I'll start with verse 14, well, 00:05:57.52\00:06:02.66 verse 13. 00:06:02.69\00:06:04.03 "Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand." 00:06:04.06\00:06:06.23 This is a holy feast. 00:06:06.26\00:06:07.56 There's thousands of people that come to the temple. 00:06:07.60\00:06:09.53 "And Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 00:06:09.56\00:06:11.73 And He found in the temple, those who sold oxen 00:06:11.77\00:06:14.30 and sheep and doves and the money changers." 00:06:14.34\00:06:16.50 So, people would come and buy their sacrifices. 00:06:16.54\00:06:19.14 And the courtyard is full of the lowing of oxen and the cooing of 00:06:19.17\00:06:23.24 doves and the bleating of goats and sheep and Jesus realized it 00:06:23.28\00:06:27.05 had turned into a flea market and that was, it was supposed to 00:06:27.08\00:06:29.22 be a house of prayer. 00:06:29.25\00:06:30.55 There's supposed to be sanctity there and they're arguing over 00:06:30.59\00:06:33.22 the exchange rate for the money and they're bidding on prices 00:06:33.25\00:06:36.62 and it was just bedlam. 00:06:36.66\00:06:38.39 And it says He took, "He made a whip of cords, 00:06:38.43\00:06:41.43 and He drove them out of the temple, 00:06:41.46\00:06:43.37 with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out 00:06:43.40\00:06:46.03 the changers' money and overturned the tables. 00:06:46.07\00:06:49.20 And He said to those who sold doves, 00:06:49.24\00:06:51.04 'Take these things away! 00:06:51.07\00:06:52.64 Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise.'" 00:06:52.67\00:06:55.98 In other place, He says, "A den of thieves." 00:06:56.01\00:06:58.68 Now, picture for a minute that when a lion tamer makes a whip, 00:06:58.71\00:07:03.82 He never whips the lion. 00:07:03.85\00:07:06.45 And I, you know, I got a lot of people that drive a buggy, 00:07:06.49\00:07:10.29 they'll crack the whip over above the horses here. 00:07:10.33\00:07:13.46 They don't ever whip the horse. 00:07:13.50\00:07:15.53 And so, all it takes sometimes is holding it. 00:07:15.56\00:07:18.67 We don't believe Jesus whipped anybody. 00:07:18.70\00:07:21.34 We think that He made a cord and then He snapped it and He drove 00:07:21.37\00:07:24.87 them out and they all went out. 00:07:24.91\00:07:27.14 So, I don't think that one man could whip enough times to whip 00:07:27.18\00:07:30.61 everybody out. 00:07:30.65\00:07:31.95 And so, I don't think he was whipping people. 00:07:31.98\00:07:33.78 Jëan: And it wasn't His physical strength in driving them 00:07:33.82\00:07:36.25 out either. 00:07:36.28\00:07:37.59 I mean, they could have easily have overpowered Christ. 00:07:37.62\00:07:39.19 It was His glory being manifest through humanity. 00:07:39.22\00:07:42.22 They were stumbling over each other to try and get out of 00:07:42.26\00:07:44.83 there, to get out of His way. 00:07:44.86\00:07:46.19 Doug: There's an authority and a dignity. 00:07:46.23\00:07:48.36 I think that as you said, I think divinity flashed through 00:07:48.40\00:07:51.23 humanity at some time. 00:07:51.27\00:07:52.53 Jëan: Assuming too for example, you have the story in the Bible 00:07:52.57\00:07:54.87 when they came to arrest Jesus and they said, "We're looking 00:07:54.90\00:07:57.17 for Jesus of Nazareth." 00:07:57.21\00:07:58.51 And Jesus says, "I am He." 00:07:58.54\00:07:59.87 And they all fell down. 00:07:59.91\00:08:01.28 Doug: Just from his saying it. 00:08:01.31\00:08:02.64 Jëan: Just from that glory that shown forth. 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.41 Doug: So, that's what we think is happening here. 00:08:04.45\00:08:06.58 And if people are picturing the meek and mild Jesus, I mean, all 00:08:06.61\00:08:10.39 He had to do is speak to the storm and the storm calmed. 00:08:10.42\00:08:14.39 He didn't need to thrash around and I don't think He 00:08:14.42\00:08:17.43 whipped anybody. 00:08:17.46\00:08:18.76 His word was enough, there's enough authority there where 00:08:18.79\00:08:21.33 they just, they, it was like God had spoken and they fled. 00:08:21.36\00:08:25.33 So, I don't know if you'll be able to persuade your friends. 00:08:25.37\00:08:28.00 I have seen paintings before pictures of Jesus with a whip 00:08:28.04\00:08:31.47 over His head and people cowering and running and I don't 00:08:31.51\00:08:34.54 think that's an accurate depiction. 00:08:34.58\00:08:36.78 Jëan: All right, thank you, Jan. 00:08:36.81\00:08:38.15 Next hold that we have is, let's see. 00:08:38.18\00:08:39.85 Godwin in Maryland. 00:08:39.88\00:08:41.52 Godwin, welcome to the program. 00:08:41.55\00:08:43.25 Godwin: Hi, first of all, I want to thank you for everything. 00:08:43.28\00:08:46.86 Your program has really helped me in my spiritual life. 00:08:46.89\00:08:50.06 Doug: Praise God. 00:08:50.09\00:08:51.96 Godwin: So, my question is from Exodus 16, verses 22 through 26. 00:08:51.99\00:08:58.53 The text is about Moses telling the children to bake and boil 00:08:58.57\00:09:02.30 what they will eat and all that they will remain and all that 00:09:02.34\00:09:05.64 remains should be left over till morning. 00:09:05.67\00:09:08.28 And also in Exodus 12:16, he tells them to prepare what 00:09:08.31\00:09:12.38 everyone will eat on that day. 00:09:12.41\00:09:14.25 My question is this, if our Friday cooking spills slightly 00:09:14.28\00:09:19.82 into the Sabbath hours, are we to stop cooking 00:09:19.85\00:09:23.79 or are we to finish cooking? 00:09:23.83\00:09:25.13 And if, suppose maybe a close relative of mine 00:09:25.16\00:09:30.10 or perhaps my mom cooks food on the Saturday 00:09:30.13\00:09:34.14 and I eat it, have I sinned? 00:09:34.17\00:09:36.67 Doug: Okay. 00:09:36.71\00:09:37.94 Now, that's assuming that your mother doesn't view things the 00:09:37.97\00:09:40.31 same way because sometimes you get a household where, you know, 00:09:40.34\00:09:44.48 you're in a house and people may not share your beliefs. 00:09:44.51\00:09:46.92 Is it a sin if you eat food that they cook? 00:09:46.95\00:09:49.25 Well, I don't think so. 00:09:49.28\00:09:51.69 You know, that there's some things you can control and some 00:09:51.72\00:09:53.79 things you can't control. 00:09:53.82\00:09:55.16 Now, if it's your home, then it's within your gates. 00:09:55.19\00:10:00.30 You know the Bible says, "Your son and your daughter within 00:10:00.33\00:10:02.36 your gates." 00:10:02.40\00:10:03.63 When you've got authority over your home, you need to invite 00:10:03.67\00:10:05.20 those that are in your home, whether it's your kids or family 00:10:05.23\00:10:08.07 to respect your beliefs. 00:10:08.10\00:10:09.77 But just getting to the heart of the question, well, is the Bible 00:10:09.80\00:10:13.64 says, yeah, "I give the Sabbath as the rest. 00:10:13.68\00:10:15.34 Rest from your regular labor." 00:10:15.38\00:10:17.11 And it goes on further to say that we shouldn't be buying 00:10:17.15\00:10:20.25 and selling. 00:10:20.28\00:10:21.58 That's in Nehemiah, I think chapter 9 and 13. 00:10:21.62\00:10:24.15 And yeah, I think even in Jeremiah chapter 17 talks about 00:10:24.19\00:10:29.42 that people not bearing burdens through the gates on the 00:10:29.46\00:10:31.59 Sabbath day. 00:10:31.63\00:10:32.96 And in Exodus, he says, you know, "Bake what you're going to 00:10:32.99\00:10:34.76 bake, boil what you're going to boil, gather your food on the 00:10:34.83\00:10:38.63 fifth day." 00:10:38.67\00:10:39.97 The whole idea is get all the work out of the way so that you 00:10:40.00\00:10:42.34 can rest. 00:10:42.37\00:10:43.71 When the Sabbath begins, you're ready to rest and enjoy it. 00:10:43.74\00:10:45.61 Now, that doesn't mean that you can't, you know, microwave 00:10:45.64\00:10:48.84 something and heat it up. 00:10:48.88\00:10:50.21 The idea is a practical one to get as much food preparation as 00:10:50.25\00:10:53.68 possible done so that you're able to enjoy that day. 00:10:53.72\00:11:00.42 So, hopefully that, does that make sense Godwin? 00:11:00.46\00:11:04.26 Godwin: Yeah. 00:11:04.29\00:11:05.59 So, that means, suppose, let's say the, if the food was 00:11:05.63\00:11:11.00 prepared, I haven't, like I haven't sinned if I were to 00:11:11.03\00:11:14.30 eat it. 00:11:14.34\00:11:15.77 Doug: No, I don't think so. 00:11:15.80\00:11:17.61 Now, you know, I'd go on to say that, you know, Paul says 00:11:17.64\00:11:21.34 anything that's not of faith is sin. 00:11:21.38\00:11:23.55 So, you know, if you're highly convicted, then, well, don't 00:11:23.58\00:11:26.38 do it. 00:11:26.41\00:11:27.75 Or if someone else in your family is feeling really 00:11:27.78\00:11:29.08 uncomfortable with it, you know, don't do anything to make 00:11:29.12\00:11:31.32 them stumble. 00:11:31.35\00:11:32.65 But, you know, if I was in visiting somebody and someone 00:11:32.69\00:11:37.66 didn't share my beliefs and they prepared a meal on that day, I 00:11:37.69\00:11:42.53 would eat it and ask God to bless it. 00:11:42.56\00:11:44.10 It's something I can't control. 00:11:44.13\00:11:45.90 It's a question of whether it's your home or not. 00:11:45.93\00:11:49.10 And if you have, you know, if you're leading and you have 00:11:49.14\00:11:51.71 control in your home, that's different. 00:11:51.74\00:11:53.91 All right, thanks friends. 00:11:53.94\00:11:55.24 Appreciate that Godwin. 00:11:55.28\00:11:56.58 Jëan: Next caller that we have is Brittany-- 00:11:56.61\00:11:58.01 Doug: By the way, pardon me, Pastor Ross. 00:11:58.05\00:11:59.71 I should tell Goodwin, we do have a book on how do you keep 00:11:59.75\00:12:03.59 the sabbath holy. 00:12:03.62\00:12:04.92 Jëan: Yeah, that's right. 00:12:04.95\00:12:06.29 We'll send that to anyone who calls and ask. 00:12:06.32\00:12:07.56 It's not a book that we send out too often, but it's a great book 00:12:07.59\00:12:09.92 filled with very important Bible truth. 00:12:09.96\00:12:11.99 Just call and ask the number is 800-835-6747. 00:12:12.03\00:12:16.00 The book's called "How to Keep the Sabbath" dial #250 on 00:12:16.03\00:12:20.10 your smartphone and just ask for it by name. 00:12:20.14\00:12:22.40 We'll be happy to send it to you. 00:12:22.44\00:12:23.77 All right, we're ready for our next caller. 00:12:23.81\00:12:25.11 We've got Brittany in California. 00:12:25.14\00:12:26.47 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:12:26.51\00:12:27.81 Brittany: Hey. 00:12:27.84\00:12:29.18 Doug: Hi, how are you doing Brittany? 00:12:29.21\00:12:30.88 Brittany: Oh, pretty good. 00:12:30.91\00:12:32.25 Doug: And your question? 00:12:32.28\00:12:33.58 Brittany: Yeah, my question is, when was Exodus 20 written, 00:12:33.62\00:12:39.32 specifically the Ten Commandments section? 00:12:39.35\00:12:42.29 Doug: So, you've got two things happening here. 00:12:42.32\00:12:44.79 You're asking, when was it written? 00:12:44.83\00:12:46.83 And then you're asking maybe when did it happen? 00:12:46.86\00:12:49.36 We know more about exactly when it happened. 00:12:49.40\00:12:52.07 It was shortly after they left Egypt. 00:12:52.10\00:12:54.70 Instead of going north towards the land of Canaan, they went 00:12:54.74\00:12:58.34 more southeast to some believe that Sinai was in Arabia. 00:12:58.37\00:13:04.98 And after crossing the sea, Moses went up the mountain and 00:13:05.01\00:13:09.62 before he went up the mountain, he spoke to the nation of Israel 00:13:09.65\00:13:13.05 and he declared the 10 commandments. 00:13:13.09\00:13:14.76 Then Moses went up after the people said, all the Lord has 00:13:14.79\00:13:17.73 said, we will do. 00:13:17.76\00:13:19.06 He got the written transcript. 00:13:19.09\00:13:20.80 When did Moses write the book of Exodus? 00:13:20.83\00:13:23.73 Based on the the wording, it seems like Exodus was written 00:13:23.77\00:13:26.43 not very long after the events. 00:13:26.47\00:13:28.90 And so I don't know, it may have been before they made it to the 00:13:28.94\00:13:33.21 borders of the promise land. 00:13:33.24\00:13:34.58 That's when you end up with Numbers and they got turned back 00:13:34.61\00:13:36.71 into the wilderness. 00:13:36.75\00:13:38.11 So some time in there. 00:13:38.15\00:13:39.48 And Genesis was probably I meant sorry to say, yeah, Genesis was 00:13:39.51\00:13:43.72 probably written while Moses was in median and he was wandering 00:13:43.75\00:13:47.86 there as a shepherd. 00:13:47.89\00:13:50.39 So, hopefully that answers that for you Brittany. 00:13:50.43\00:13:52.39 And thank you for your question. 00:13:52.43\00:13:53.86 Jëan: Next call that we have is Glenn listening in Ohio. 00:13:53.90\00:13:56.40 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:13:56.43\00:13:59.30 Glenn: Good evening, pastors. 00:13:59.33\00:14:00.74 And thank you for taking my call. 00:14:00.77\00:14:03.44 Back in the first century there was a young man named Saul who 00:14:03.47\00:14:07.28 was very much in favor of Rome as he went about arresting 00:14:07.31\00:14:11.45 people who were found worshiping the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua. 00:14:11.48\00:14:16.08 And after his conversion experience, Rome treated 00:14:16.12\00:14:19.19 him terrible. 00:14:19.22\00:14:20.56 Why did they do that? 00:14:20.59\00:14:21.89 They put him in jail, beat him up, left him for dead. 00:14:21.92\00:14:24.63 Why did they do that? 00:14:24.66\00:14:26.49 Doug: Well, in the beginning of Paul's ministry after his 00:14:26.53\00:14:29.10 conversion, Rome really didn't care less about the Christians. 00:14:29.13\00:14:34.34 The first few times that Paul was arrested, it was because the 00:14:34.37\00:14:38.17 Jews had stirred up the mob and the same thing they did 00:14:38.21\00:14:41.58 with Jesus. 00:14:41.61\00:14:42.94 Pilate was gonna let Jesus go. 00:14:42.98\00:14:44.28 But they said, "Oh, He's rebelling against Caesar." 00:14:44.31\00:14:47.15 And the Ephesians, they said about Paul and Silas, he's 00:14:47.18\00:14:49.95 stirring the whole city up. 00:14:49.98\00:14:51.65 These are turning the world upside down. 00:14:51.69\00:14:53.36 The Romans otherwise wouldn't have cared. 00:14:53.39\00:14:54.99 But there were either the idol makers were threatened by the 00:14:55.02\00:14:58.53 work of Paul who said, "Don't pray to idols." 00:14:58.56\00:15:01.13 Or it was some of the Jews that had rejected their teachings 00:15:01.16\00:15:05.37 about Jesus. 00:15:05.40\00:15:06.74 They said they were--they're throwing out the law of Moses. 00:15:06.77\00:15:09.00 So later, it became the Romans when the Jews rebelled 00:15:09.04\00:15:13.91 against Rome. 00:15:13.94\00:15:17.01 Then Christians were persecuted along with the Jews because they 00:15:17.05\00:15:20.25 saw them as the same monotheistic religion, reading 00:15:20.28\00:15:23.35 the same Bible. 00:15:23.39\00:15:24.95 Jëan: So, you mentioned that before Saul's conversion when he 00:15:24.99\00:15:28.29 was still Saul and he was persecuting the Christians, he 00:15:28.32\00:15:31.03 was doing so in the name of the religious leaders, 00:15:31.06\00:15:33.23 the Sanhedrin. 00:15:33.26\00:15:34.56 He wasn't doing it in the name of Rome or the Caesar's. 00:15:34.60\00:15:37.87 So later on, actually, it's interesting, there were times 00:15:37.90\00:15:40.64 when the Jewish leadership wanted Paul, this is after his 00:15:40.67\00:15:44.41 conversion, wanted to kill him and it was the Romans that 00:15:44.44\00:15:47.61 actually protected him until he made it all the way back-- 00:15:47.64\00:15:50.38 Doug: In the temple on the steps. 00:15:50.41\00:15:52.01 That's right, they saved him. 00:15:52.05\00:15:54.12 Jëan: All right thank you, Glenn. 00:15:54.15\00:15:55.48 Next caller that we have is Karen in British Columbia. 00:15:55.52\00:15:57.22 Karen, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:15:57.25\00:15:59.19 Karen: Hi there, pastors. 00:15:59.22\00:16:00.62 Thank you for taking my call. 00:16:00.66\00:16:02.79 I listen to you all the time and you are a blessing both of you. 00:16:02.82\00:16:06.09 Doug: Thank you. 00:16:06.13\00:16:07.40 Karen: You had mentioned the other night, I listen to "Bible 00:16:07.46\00:16:09.80 Answers Live" quite often and you had talked to a man who was 00:16:09.83\00:16:12.70 saying that at the flood when all the people on the earth were 00:16:12.73\00:16:17.34 destroyed and that the Bible does say something about all the 00:16:17.37\00:16:21.64 souls in the sea died. 00:16:21.68\00:16:24.11 And I think you had said you thought that could be true. 00:16:24.15\00:16:28.18 But I was wondering if that's the case, wouldn't the Lord 00:16:28.22\00:16:31.29 hadn't had to have recreated all the fish that are now in 00:16:31.32\00:16:36.46 the sea. 00:16:36.49\00:16:37.83 Doug: Yeah. 00:16:37.86\00:16:39.16 Now, I think there may be a misunderstanding. 00:16:39.19\00:16:40.53 There is a verse that talks about it in every soul 00:16:40.56\00:16:41.96 in the sea died. 00:16:42.00\00:16:43.30 That's in the seventh plague if I'm not mistaken, Pastor Ross, 00:16:43.33\00:16:46.13 it's not talking about the flood. 00:16:46.17\00:16:48.50 During the flood, we don't believe all the sea life died. 00:16:48.54\00:16:51.84 You might think with all the turmoil and the mud and the silt 00:16:51.87\00:16:55.31 that is blowing around in the waters during the flood that it 00:16:55.34\00:16:59.65 would choke a lot of sea life. 00:16:59.68\00:17:01.08 Some probably did get killed because you find fossils of 00:17:01.12\00:17:03.99 these great sea creatures that are dead. 00:17:04.02\00:17:06.22 But I'm amazed every year, we've got trout in our creek up in the 00:17:06.25\00:17:10.19 hills and it floods in the winter and there's logs and mud 00:17:10.23\00:17:14.50 and debris and everything washing down the creek. 00:17:14.56\00:17:16.77 And I think, I don't know how any fish could ever survive. 00:17:16.80\00:17:19.03 And the next spring there they are again. 00:17:19.07\00:17:21.10 Somehow they hide in the little eddies and the ripples of 00:17:21.14\00:17:23.97 the rocks. 00:17:24.01\00:17:25.31 So, a lot of sea life did survive the flood. 00:17:25.34\00:17:27.91 In fact, it's kind of interesting Lake Titicaca, which 00:17:27.94\00:17:31.85 is, I don't know, 11,000 feet high, it's got sharks. 00:17:31.88\00:17:34.98 Freshwater sharks and they're not that distantly related to 00:17:35.02\00:17:38.42 the sharks you'd find in the ocean. 00:17:38.45\00:17:40.09 When those mountain ranges of the Andes rose up, there were 00:17:40.12\00:17:44.09 bodies of water that just rose up with them. 00:17:44.13\00:17:45.89 And some of the sea life there are similar to the sea life you 00:17:45.93\00:17:49.36 find in the sea. 00:17:49.40\00:17:50.80 So, and they find fossils inland where there used to be oceans 00:17:50.83\00:17:55.97 that aren't there. 00:17:56.00\00:17:57.31 So, I believe a lot of sea life did survive the flood. 00:17:57.34\00:17:59.71 I don't think God recreated. 00:17:59.74\00:18:01.11 I think a lot was destroyed and they're extinct now. 00:18:01.14\00:18:03.58 Jëan: And the plague you're referring to Revelation 00:18:03.61\00:18:05.61 chapter 16, verse 3. 00:18:05.65\00:18:06.95 It's the second plague and it talks about the sea 00:18:06.98\00:18:09.75 turning to blood and every living creature in the sea died. 00:18:09.78\00:18:13.15 Doug: I think it says soul in King James. 00:18:13.19\00:18:15.69 Yeah, so that's talking about something a different time 00:18:15.72\00:18:18.33 period at the end of time. 00:18:18.36\00:18:20.06 But yeah, a lot of sea creatures did survive the flood, the birds 00:18:20.10\00:18:23.90 and the land animals were in the Ark. 00:18:23.93\00:18:26.10 Sea creatures were still in the water. 00:18:26.13\00:18:29.00 Thanks. 00:18:29.04\00:18:30.34 Jëan: Next call that we have is Anthony in New York. 00:18:30.37\00:18:32.71 Anthony, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:18:32.74\00:18:34.04 Anthony: Yes good evening, pastors. 00:18:34.08\00:18:35.78 My question, it's based on Hebrews chapter 8 where God 00:18:35.81\00:18:40.12 talks about the new covenant that he was gonna make with the 00:18:40.15\00:18:42.82 house of Israel, which we know that's spiritual 00:18:42.85\00:18:46.76 Israel, Christians. 00:18:46.79\00:18:48.09 But my question is all throughout the Bible, we see 00:18:48.12\00:18:51.13 covenants that God makes with His people. 00:18:51.16\00:18:53.43 He made covenant with Noah. 00:18:53.46\00:18:54.86 He made a covenant with Abraham and just all throughout 00:18:54.93\00:18:57.20 the Bible. 00:18:57.23\00:18:59.23 And then what I also realized is that in like Deuteronomy chapter 00:18:59.27\00:19:03.67 28 for example, there were blessings and there were curses 00:19:03.71\00:19:08.68 that were mentioned there. 00:19:08.71\00:19:10.25 So, I was having a conversation with a friend and they 00:19:10.28\00:19:13.55 say, "Yeah." 00:19:13.58\00:19:14.92 So, whenever we don't keep part of the bargain, when we avoid, 00:19:14.95\00:19:19.39 when we break the covenant, then God breaks His, when we break 00:19:19.42\00:19:22.69 the covenant with God or when we do something wrong according to 00:19:22.72\00:19:26.19 the covenant, then God breaks His covenant with us. 00:19:26.23\00:19:29.16 And it just didn't sit well with me to say that God 00:19:29.20\00:19:31.67 breaks covenants. 00:19:31.70\00:19:33.13 So, I just wanted to know, is there any evidence in the Bible 00:19:33.17\00:19:36.17 of God breaking a covenant with his people. 00:19:36.20\00:19:39.44 Or is it just that we work our covenant with God and we just 00:19:39.47\00:19:42.18 suffer the consequences of that? 00:19:42.21\00:19:44.71 Doug: Yeah, well, the word covenant, 00:19:44.75\00:19:46.05 I would not use the word break because 00:19:46.08\00:19:47.62 break would make whoever breaks the covenant is violating 00:19:47.65\00:19:50.59 the agreement. 00:19:50.62\00:19:52.05 If I make a contract with you, and there's certain terms. 00:19:52.09\00:19:55.86 If you break the covenant, the contract becomes null and void. 00:19:55.89\00:20:00.10 There are places in the Bible. 00:20:00.13\00:20:01.40 I'm trying to think there's several places actually where 00:20:01.43\00:20:03.30 God says, you know, "You've broken the covenant." 00:20:03.33\00:20:05.80 He tells them, "You've broken the covenant." 00:20:05.83\00:20:07.97 And so, the promises that God had are conditional on keeping 00:20:08.00\00:20:12.44 the covenant. 00:20:12.47\00:20:13.78 If we don't keep the covenant, then the promises are null 00:20:13.81\00:20:18.15 and void. 00:20:18.18\00:20:19.48 God says, "If you will do this, then I will do that." 00:20:19.51\00:20:22.68 And so, God never breaks His Word. 00:20:22.72\00:20:25.39 But if we break the covenant, then the promises are null 00:20:25.42\00:20:29.82 and void. 00:20:29.86\00:20:31.16 And different covenants had different promises like in the 00:20:31.19\00:20:33.40 Ten Commandments, it says, "Honor your father and mother." 00:20:33.43\00:20:36.36 Promise says, "Your days will be long on the land that I 00:20:36.40\00:20:39.27 give you." 00:20:39.30\00:20:40.64 And so, pay your tithe and the promise is, "I will open for you 00:20:40.67\00:20:45.57 the windows of heaven." 00:20:45.61\00:20:47.21 Now, there's some people that have long life, but he's not 00:20:47.24\00:20:49.64 opened the windows because they don't pay their tithe. 00:20:49.68\00:20:51.41 So, I mean, there are different promises where words and 00:20:51.45\00:20:54.35 covenants all through the Bible. 00:20:54.38\00:20:55.75 But yeah, God never breaks His Word. 00:20:55.78\00:20:58.22 Heaven and earth will pass away. 00:20:58.25\00:20:59.55 His Word won't pass away, but we might break the covenant and 00:20:59.59\00:21:02.89 then the promises it's nullified at that point. 00:21:02.92\00:21:06.96 Jëan: All right, thank you, Anthony. 00:21:07.00\00:21:08.26 Next caller that we have is Robert in California. 00:21:08.30\00:21:10.97 Robert, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:21:11.00\00:21:12.33 Robert: Yes, pastors. 00:21:12.37\00:21:13.70 Thank you for taking my call. 00:21:13.74\00:21:15.10 My question is about man's free will. 00:21:15.14\00:21:19.27 And in the book of Jonah, we all know that God had asked Jonah to 00:21:19.31\00:21:25.75 prophesy to the wicked people of Nineveh. 00:21:25.78\00:21:29.68 And he decided not to do that and took off and fled to the 00:21:29.72\00:21:34.26 ocean, got on a ship and was sinking, and then got into the 00:21:34.29\00:21:37.99 water and then the fish swallowed him and brought him 00:21:38.03\00:21:40.70 back to make him go to Nineveh and do God's bidding. 00:21:40.73\00:21:44.47 So, the question is, I guess Jonah did not choose to do that. 00:21:44.50\00:21:50.84 He left and actually was punished in a kind of a singular 00:21:50.87\00:21:55.81 way here of coming back to do it. 00:21:55.84\00:21:58.55 And my point is that there, see, there's a fine distinction 00:21:58.58\00:22:03.32 between I'm not gonna do that, but he knew directly from God 00:22:03.35\00:22:07.52 that you'd better do this. 00:22:07.56\00:22:08.79 And he, you know, had to come back and through extraordinary 00:22:08.82\00:22:13.03 circumstances to do it. 00:22:13.06\00:22:14.50 So, is there some point that really, we know that there is 00:22:14.56\00:22:17.37 some way that we don't have to guess to do something right? 00:22:17.40\00:22:20.90 Like Moses is doing the work that he did, you know, he was 00:22:20.94\00:22:24.41 kind of told by, you know, after he was pushed out of Egypt to 00:22:24.44\00:22:30.15 through the circumstances to go up and be told do this and he 00:22:30.18\00:22:33.45 went and did it, you know, he re released the Israeli people. 00:22:33.48\00:22:37.09 But at that time, he didn't do you now, "Do you want to do this 00:22:37.12\00:22:41.79 or not?" 00:22:41.82\00:22:43.16 No, I'm not gonna go back there. 00:22:43.19\00:22:44.49 Doug: So, first of all, with Jonah, I would argue that Jonah 00:22:44.53\00:22:47.50 still had a choice because if you look at Jonah chapter 3, 00:22:47.50\00:22:50.77 after his terrible experience in the fish, he prays and repents 00:22:50.80\00:22:55.00 during that time, fish burps him out on dry ground says, "Now the 00:22:55.04\00:22:59.54 word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 'Arise, 00:22:59.57\00:23:02.64 and go to Nineveh.'" 00:23:02.68\00:23:04.01 Jonah could have said no again. 00:23:04.05\00:23:05.85 But after what he'd been through, he thought, you know, 00:23:05.88\00:23:08.18 "Things don't go well when I don't listen to God." 00:23:08.22\00:23:10.15 So, he went, but there's stories in the Bible where God asked 00:23:10.19\00:23:12.89 prophets to do things, they didn't do it. 00:23:12.92\00:23:14.59 And one prophet said no, and he died. 00:23:14.62\00:23:17.59 So, he had a choice. 00:23:17.63\00:23:21.43 Sometimes the consequences were pretty severe. 00:23:21.46\00:23:24.20 But you've got a lot of examples in the Bible. 00:23:24.23\00:23:26.50 Even Moses had a choice when he said, "Oh, don't send me." 00:23:26.53\00:23:29.40 God says, "Well, if you say you can't speak, your brother will 00:23:29.44\00:23:32.44 translate for you." 00:23:32.47\00:23:33.78 But, and even Moses nearly died on his way because he was in 00:23:33.81\00:23:36.68 disobedience when he stopped and says, the angel of the Lord 00:23:36.71\00:23:41.02 nearly slew him. 00:23:41.05\00:23:42.38 Jëan: Then you go, Balaam, the prophet who really wanted to go 00:23:42.42\00:23:45.35 to get the money. 00:23:45.39\00:23:46.72 And he said, "No, God says I can't go." 00:23:46.76\00:23:48.06 And then God allowed him to go. 00:23:48.09\00:23:49.72 So yes, God does recognize freedom of choice even with 00:23:49.76\00:23:52.66 the prophets. 00:23:52.69\00:23:54.00 Doug: And it backfired for Balaam. 00:23:54.00\00:23:55.63 So, hopefully that helps a little bit, Robert. 00:23:55.66\00:23:57.83 We thank you for your question. 00:23:57.87\00:23:59.20 We do have a book, "Can a Saved Man Choose to be Lost?" 00:23:59.23\00:24:02.50 That talks about free will. 00:24:02.54\00:24:03.84 Jëan: The number to call for that is 8000-835-6747. 00:24:03.87\00:24:07.24 You library, our digital 00:24:25.76\00:24:28.93 library, so you can still read that resource. 00:24:28.96\00:24:31.93 Next caller that we have is Ivan in Mexico. 00:24:31.97\00:24:34.57 Ivan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:24:34.60\00:24:36.74 Ivan: Hello, pastors, good evening. 00:24:36.77\00:24:38.27 Doug: Evening. 00:24:38.31\00:24:39.61 Ivan: Thank you for taking my call. 00:24:39.64\00:24:40.98 Yes, I had a question but I actually wanted to answer one 00:24:41.01\00:24:42.84 of yours. 00:24:42.88\00:24:44.21 Doug: You want to answer one for me, huh? 00:24:44.25\00:24:45.81 Ivan: Yes. 00:24:45.85\00:24:47.18 So, every time I, sometimes I see you when you do a ministry 00:24:47.22\00:24:51.22 on YouTube, I see that you asked the question about the Ark of 00:24:51.25\00:24:55.22 the Covenant if someone has found it yet. 00:24:55.26\00:24:57.26 I've seen a couple of videos on the internet. 00:24:57.29\00:24:58.89 There were the, it was found by a man named Ron Wyatt back 00:24:58.93\00:25:03.20 in 1982. 00:25:03.23\00:25:04.53 Doug: I know about that and I think that's been disproven. 00:25:04.57\00:25:07.74 Ivan: Oh, I see. 00:25:07.77\00:25:09.07 Doug: I've been there on three occasions. 00:25:09.10\00:25:11.21 Pastor Ross has been there. 00:25:11.24\00:25:12.54 There's no cave underneath the cross. 00:25:12.57\00:25:15.88 And the whole thing was fabricated. 00:25:15.91\00:25:18.61 But, yeah, anyway, I won't go into that right now. 00:25:18.65\00:25:22.05 But, yeah, I don't believe the Ark has been found. 00:25:22.08\00:25:24.69 No, it's ok. 00:25:24.72\00:25:26.05 I know about the videos and, some people, you know, they'll 00:25:26.09\00:25:29.49 believe anything but it's not been discovered. 00:25:29.52\00:25:32.33 Anyway, go to your question though. 00:25:32.36\00:25:34.03 Ivan: Yeah. 00:25:34.10\00:25:35.40 Okay, well, my question was about medication. 00:25:35.43\00:25:37.80 Is it okay to take prescribed medication that makes you 00:25:37.83\00:25:40.14 like, woozy? 00:25:40.17\00:25:42.37 Doug: Well, you know, we'll be very careful not to pretend 00:25:42.40\00:25:45.67 we're doctors and tell you what to take. 00:25:45.71\00:25:47.34 But there's no moral sin in taking medicine that is, you 00:25:47.38\00:25:52.31 know, achieving a goal and hopefully healing. 00:25:52.35\00:25:55.35 You can see, for instance, in Jeremiah 46:11, "Go up to 00:25:55.38\00:25:59.55 Gilead, take Balm, O virgin, daughter of Egypt; in vain 00:25:59.59\00:26:02.92 they'll use many medicines; and you'll not be cured." 00:26:02.96\00:26:06.36 And then you read in Ezekiel chapter 47 verse 12 says, "The 00:26:06.39\00:26:10.27 fruit of these trees will be for food, and their leaves 00:26:10.30\00:26:12.97 for medicine." 00:26:13.00\00:26:14.30 They use medicine back in Bible times when Hezekiah had a 00:26:14.34\00:26:18.91 terrible boil. 00:26:18.94\00:26:20.68 Isaiah didn't just wave his hand over him. 00:26:20.71\00:26:22.68 He says they placed a lump of figs, a poultice on his leg and 00:26:22.71\00:26:26.11 it healed the boil. 00:26:26.15\00:26:27.45 So, that was a medic--medical treatment, so to speak. 00:26:27.48\00:26:30.59 So yeah, check with your doctor. 00:26:30.62\00:26:31.95 If it's making you dizzy, you might wanna check 00:26:31.99\00:26:33.89 the prescription. 00:26:33.92\00:26:35.22 But no moral dilemma in using medicine for a good purpose. 00:26:35.26\00:26:38.09 Don't abuse drugs. 00:26:38.13\00:26:39.43 That's a different thing. 00:26:39.46\00:26:40.80 And don't go away. 00:26:40.83\00:26:42.10 We're coming back with more Bible questions in just a 00:26:42.13\00:26:43.47 few minutes. 00:26:43.50\00:26:44.83 ¤¤¤ 00:26:45.30\00:26:48.40 male announcer: Stay tuned "Bible Answers Live" will 00:26:48.44\00:26:50.87 return shortly. 00:26:50.91\00:26:52.24 ¤¤¤ 00:26:52.34\00:26:55.71 ¤¤¤ 00:26:57.58\00:26:59.28 announcer: Amazing Facts, changed lives. 00:26:59.31\00:27:02.38 ¤¤¤ 00:27:02.42\00:27:10.99 Scarlett Varley: I'm Scarlett Varley. 00:27:11.03\00:27:13.46 I grew up in a military home. 00:27:13.50\00:27:15.23 Both my parents were in the Navy and my mom left fairly early and 00:27:15.26\00:27:20.30 then my dad stayed for 15 years and so he was deployed a lot. 00:27:20.34\00:27:24.91 We would read the Bible every night together as a family. 00:27:24.94\00:27:27.84 And I mean, I knew like that God was there and like I knew that 00:27:27.88\00:27:30.61 He, like, died for me. 00:27:30.65\00:27:31.95 But it wasn't something that, like, you know, stuck in 00:27:31.98\00:27:34.08 my head. 00:27:34.12\00:27:35.45 Any time I went to church, I never got enough information. 00:27:35.48\00:27:39.22 You know, you're there for just like an hour. 00:27:39.25\00:27:41.56 I was super, super hungry for knowledge and I wasn't being 00:27:41.59\00:27:44.26 given it. 00:27:44.29\00:27:45.63 And even though I accepted Christ, my faith, like, really 00:27:45.66\00:27:48.56 wasn't all that strong. 00:27:48.60\00:27:51.63 I mean, I lost my first friend in high school, you know, my 00:27:51.67\00:27:54.27 first boyfriend to suicide and that was really hard and I 00:27:54.30\00:27:57.31 didn't understand it and I was just really, really depressed. 00:27:57.34\00:28:03.61 I was also like, abused and so I was just really confused and I 00:28:03.65\00:28:08.38 was like, Lord, why was I put in that situation where I had no 00:28:08.42\00:28:11.42 control over anything? 00:28:11.45\00:28:13.72 I was suicidal. 00:28:13.76\00:28:15.06 I was developing an eating disorder. 00:28:15.09\00:28:17.06 So, like all these things were just coming into play, you know, 00:28:17.09\00:28:21.56 I don't feel loved, you know, that's not something that would 00:28:21.60\00:28:23.60 happen if I was loved and that's not something that happened if 00:28:23.63\00:28:26.53 maybe I must have done something wrong if I went through that. 00:28:26.57\00:28:29.64 And I just blamed myself for everything. 00:28:29.67\00:28:32.84 On the outside I was still like super happy and outgoing and I'd 00:28:32.87\00:28:36.24 give everyone a hug and compliment them and try to put 00:28:36.28\00:28:38.85 the attention on other people. 00:28:38.88\00:28:41.02 And so people didn't know what I was going through. 00:28:41.05\00:28:44.85 I was just super confused about life and why am I here? 00:28:44.89\00:28:47.76 Like, I don't think I have a reason to even be alive. 00:28:47.79\00:28:51.73 And I was really confused with God. 00:28:51.76\00:28:53.70 Like, why would you let this happen? 00:28:53.73\00:28:55.00 Like, why wouldn't you intervene? 00:28:55.03\00:28:57.70 I just wanted to change it. 00:28:57.73\00:28:59.33 I wanted to change it so bad. 00:28:59.37\00:29:01.24 And there was nothing I could do. 00:29:01.27\00:29:04.07 I quit choir because I was around too many people. 00:29:04.11\00:29:08.94 Choir was a big thing. 00:29:08.98\00:29:10.61 I just isolated myself because I couldn't stand being 00:29:10.65\00:29:14.18 around people. 00:29:14.22\00:29:15.45 And I was like, oh, well, if I don't have any friends and if 00:29:15.48\00:29:18.12 something happens to them, well, then it won't affect me because 00:29:18.15\00:29:20.66 I'm not part of their lives. 00:29:20.69\00:29:22.29 And so, I was just really scared of just losing people. 00:29:22.32\00:29:25.19 And so, I thought if the more I pushed them away, the easier it 00:29:25.23\00:29:28.66 would be to just go through life. 00:29:28.70\00:29:30.50 The problem was I didn't turn to God and that's what I 00:29:30.53\00:29:33.13 needed Him most. 00:29:33.17\00:29:35.04 My sophomore year in high school, we went on this thing 00:29:35.07\00:29:37.97 called Fall Weekend. 00:29:38.01\00:29:39.34 So, we went on a retreat for like the weekend and they showed 00:29:39.37\00:29:42.54 this clip of Jesus Christ on the cross and that broke me. 00:29:42.58\00:29:47.05 I mean, I was crying, crying so much and after they showed the 00:29:47.08\00:29:51.72 clip, you know, everyone's super quiet and they're like, I go out 00:29:51.75\00:29:54.96 on the campus, and we're gonna do this thing called 20 Minutes. 00:29:54.99\00:29:59.29 And so, I'm sitting out there and I'm just like praying. 00:29:59.33\00:30:03.50 I gave my life to Christ and it was just such, like, a 00:30:03.53\00:30:05.50 beautiful moment. 00:30:05.53\00:30:08.30 Right around that time, my dad found Doug Batchelor on the TV. 00:30:08.34\00:30:14.48 And so he's like, "Scarlett, come watch this." 00:30:14.51\00:30:16.61 And I'm like, "All right, like, I'll watch it." 00:30:16.64\00:30:19.01 And so, we started watching it, like, all the time. 00:30:19.05\00:30:21.75 And, he's like, "You know, this is like the Bible truth." 00:30:21.78\00:30:24.45 I was like, "It definitely is." 00:30:24.49\00:30:25.82 He's like, "Scarlett, you should go to Afco." 00:30:25.85\00:30:28.99 And I was like, "That's not really my cup of tea." 00:30:29.02\00:30:33.50 I was a very spirited person and Afco was structured and I, me as 00:30:33.53\00:30:40.64 a person, I wasn't too structured. 00:30:40.67\00:30:43.07 But you know, the more I thought about Afco, the happier I got 00:30:43.10\00:30:45.37 and it was like a two weeks notice before Afco started. 00:30:45.41\00:30:48.21 She's like, "You got accepted like we emailed you your letter 00:30:48.24\00:30:51.01 and all this stuff." 00:30:51.05\00:30:52.28 And I was like, "Oh no, oh no, I have to pack up my entire life." 00:30:52.31\00:30:55.28 And so I'm like, frantically, like, packing up everything and 00:30:55.32\00:30:58.65 me and my dad like, drive cross country and Afco is not what I 00:30:58.69\00:31:02.66 expected at all. 00:31:02.69\00:31:04.66 They've definitely led me, and helped me, and talked to me, and 00:31:04.69\00:31:07.86 taught me, and just loved me, and accepted me as who I was, 00:31:07.93\00:31:11.63 and just helped me grow as a person, and showing me different 00:31:11.67\00:31:14.77 ways of life and just how to live like a better life 00:31:14.80\00:31:18.17 in all sorts of areas. 00:31:18.21\00:31:20.04 Without the help of the Lord 00:31:20.08\00:31:21.31 and without like people who love the Lord and love me, I wouldn't 00:31:21.34\00:31:25.25 be where I am today. 00:31:25.28\00:31:27.38 Even though I didn't want Him, I, you know, I kind of shoved 00:31:27.42\00:31:30.19 Him away, He didn't let go. 00:31:30.22\00:31:31.62 And so, I'm super grateful. 00:31:31.65\00:31:33.12 ¤¤¤ 00:31:33.15\00:31:36.09 ¤¤¤ 00:32:29.51\00:32:34.32 Doug: Welcome back listening friends to "Bible Answers Live," 00:32:35.35\00:32:38.59 a live international interactive Bible study and you're part of 00:32:38.62\00:32:42.79 our Bible study family. 00:32:42.82\00:32:44.49 So, if you have a question, we welcome them. 00:32:44.53\00:32:47.20 These questions come in live and every now and then people say, 00:32:47.23\00:32:50.60 "I've got a question, but I'm afraid to get on the phone." 00:32:50.63\00:32:52.63 So, they'll email a question to us and I think we're gonna have 00:32:52.67\00:32:55.80 a few of those. 00:32:55.84\00:32:57.17 My name is Doug Batchelor. 00:32:57.21\00:32:58.54 Jëan: My name is Jëan Ross and we've got some email questions 00:32:58.57\00:33:00.41 for Pastor Doug. 00:33:00.44\00:33:01.78 For those of you who are watching, if you'd like 00:33:01.81\00:33:03.11 to send us an email, here's the email address. 00:33:03.14\00:33:04.98 It's easy. 00:33:05.01\00:33:06.35 It's BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:33:06.38\00:33:09.18 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:33:09.22\00:33:13.52 Jeremy is asking, "In James chapter 5, verse 16, it says, 00:33:13.56\00:33:16.49 'Confess your sins to one another and pray for 00:33:16.52\00:33:18.46 one another.' 00:33:18.49\00:33:19.83 Does this mean that we should share our deepest wrongdoings to 00:33:19.86\00:33:22.66 our fellow brethren?" 00:33:22.70\00:33:24.57 Doug: No. 00:33:24.60\00:33:25.83 You don't wanna be confessing personal sins to the public or 00:33:25.87\00:33:29.20 even your friends. 00:33:29.24\00:33:31.51 I think it's basically saying, you know, in a general sense 00:33:31.54\00:33:35.54 that we tell people, "You know, I'm struggling. 00:33:35.58\00:33:37.38 Will you pray for me?" 00:33:37.41\00:33:38.75 Otherwise, you get into the mode of where people used to confess 00:33:38.78\00:33:42.38 their sins to the priests. 00:33:42.42\00:33:43.95 And I think it would be terrible to be a priest and have to 00:33:43.99\00:33:47.09 listen to all the intimate secrets. 00:33:47.12\00:33:49.19 It's probably not good for his own soul to know that much. 00:33:49.22\00:33:51.83 Sometimes you get what they call too much information and they 00:33:51.86\00:33:56.33 say confession is good for the soul but bad for the reputation. 00:33:56.36\00:34:00.04 So, you know, unless you've got a close friend and there's 00:34:00.07\00:34:03.27 something specific you know, really feel like you need to 00:34:03.30\00:34:05.91 share and ask for their prayer for be very careful about making 00:34:05.94\00:34:10.15 your personal problems public. 00:34:10.18\00:34:12.71 Jëan: All right. 00:34:12.75\00:34:14.05 Next one that we have is actually next email question we 00:34:14.08\00:34:15.78 have is Mosh asking, "If Satan can turn himself into an angel 00:34:15.82\00:34:19.09 of light, how do we know whether it is him or whether it's a 00:34:19.12\00:34:22.29 real angel?" 00:34:22.32\00:34:23.66 Doug: Good question. 00:34:23.69\00:34:24.99 I think when the devil appeared to Jesus in the wilderness, he 00:34:25.03\00:34:27.96 appeared as an angel of light. 00:34:27.96\00:34:29.46 He didn't plop down like a, you know, a devil with bat wings and 00:34:29.50\00:34:32.53 a goatee and horns and say, "I've got a proposition." 00:34:32.57\00:34:35.17 Jesus never would have been fooled by that. 00:34:35.20\00:34:38.07 But what he said revealed who he was. 00:34:38.11\00:34:40.48 That's why by the third temptation, Jesus said, "Get 00:34:40.51\00:34:42.78 behind me, Satan." 00:34:42.81\00:34:44.11 He knew who he was. 00:34:44.15\00:34:45.48 And so, you measure whether it's an angel of God or an angel of 00:34:45.51\00:34:50.12 the devil based on what they say in the Word of God. 00:34:50.15\00:34:53.36 It's the same measurements you'd use to how do you know a true 00:34:53.39\00:34:55.92 prophet from a false prophet? 00:34:55.96\00:34:57.73 Jesus said, "You'll know them by their fruits." 00:34:57.76\00:34:59.66 And you can measure what they say by the Word of God. 00:34:59.69\00:35:02.76 Moses says actually in Deuteronomy says, "If anyone 00:35:02.80\00:35:05.43 says he's a prophet and he says anything against what I teach." 00:35:05.47\00:35:09.64 Paul said, "Even if an angel from heaven should teach you 00:35:09.67\00:35:12.57 another gospel, let him be accursed, anathema." 00:35:12.61\00:35:16.18 So yeah, based on what they say. 00:35:16.21\00:35:18.91 Jëan: All right, maybe time for one more of these 00:35:18.95\00:35:20.55 email questions. 00:35:20.58\00:35:21.92 So, Nathaniel from Indonesia, he's asking, "John the Baptist 00:35:21.95\00:35:25.45 knew that Jesus' is real mission or what his real mission was and 00:35:25.49\00:35:29.36 prepared the way for Him. 00:35:29.39\00:35:30.63 Why then in Matthew chapter 11, did he seem to express doubt and 00:35:30.66\00:35:34.46 send his disciples to confirm that Jesus was the Coming One?" 00:35:34.50\00:35:39.20 Doug: Well, John heard from the Holy Spirit when Christ came to 00:35:39.23\00:35:42.17 get baptized, "This is the One." 00:35:42.20\00:35:43.84 And twice, he said, "This is the Lamb of God." 00:35:43.87\00:35:46.78 But even John, like the apostles thought that Jesus at some point 00:35:46.81\00:35:51.01 was gonna reveal Himself as the new king of Israel. 00:35:51.05\00:35:53.82 John even believed the popular Jewish beliefs that Christ's 00:35:53.85\00:35:57.69 Second Coming and First Coming were commingled and that somehow 00:35:57.72\00:36:01.16 He was gonna make Israel a great nation again and bring an 00:36:01.19\00:36:04.46 everlasting righteousness. 00:36:04.49\00:36:05.79 And he kept waiting for Jesus to do something dramatic. 00:36:05.83\00:36:09.00 And while John was languishing in Herod's prison, the devil 00:36:09.03\00:36:13.67 began to work on him and he started wondering, "Did I get 00:36:13.70\00:36:16.14 it wrong? 00:36:16.17\00:36:17.51 Are you the one or do we look for someone else?" 00:36:17.54\00:36:19.47 And Jesus told the messengers from John, "Just stand here for 00:36:19.51\00:36:23.18 a minute." 00:36:23.21\00:36:24.45 And they watched Jesus open the eyes of the blind, and heal the 00:36:24.48\00:36:27.18 sick, and maybe even raise the dead. 00:36:27.22\00:36:28.75 And He said, "Go tell John what you've seen." 00:36:28.78\00:36:32.59 And then John remembered the verse in Isaiah where it says 00:36:32.62\00:36:35.69 that He would preach the gospel, that He would heal the sick in 00:36:35.72\00:36:39.69 the ministry of Christ. 00:36:39.73\00:36:41.00 And he said, "Yeah, He is the Messiah." 00:36:41.03\00:36:42.86 It just wasn't time for Him to manifest Himself as king yet. 00:36:42.90\00:36:47.37 So, yeah, John was, but I think John had peace after that and he 00:36:47.40\00:36:50.47 was ready to die, obviously. 00:36:50.51\00:36:52.54 Jëan: Okay, we're gonna go to the phone lines. 00:36:52.57\00:36:54.11 Our next call that we have Alan standing by in California. 00:36:54.14\00:36:56.91 Alan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:36:56.95\00:36:58.81 You're on the air. 00:36:58.85\00:37:00.22 Alan: Thank you, gentlemen. 00:37:00.25\00:37:01.58 Bakersfield, California here. 00:37:01.62\00:37:02.92 Well, I was reading 2 Chronicles 7 verse 14 where God is saying 00:37:02.95\00:37:07.06 that, "If My people who are called by My name, humble 00:37:07.09\00:37:09.39 themselves and pray and seek My face," and then it goes on to 00:37:09.42\00:37:12.73 say He'll do His part by healing the land. 00:37:12.76\00:37:15.76 Now, is there a certain amount of people that need to do that 00:37:15.80\00:37:18.53 before he grants that because I know in Genesis 18, Abraham kind 00:37:18.57\00:37:23.04 of like negotiates with God about 50 people to save the city 00:37:23.07\00:37:27.51 of Sodom, righteous people than 40? 00:37:27.54\00:37:29.31 And he goes down. 00:37:29.34\00:37:30.65 So, there's some flexibility there, some negotiation there. 00:37:30.68\00:37:32.71 I just didn't know if-- 00:37:32.75\00:37:34.18 Doug: Yeah, well-- 00:37:34.22\00:37:35.75 Alan: What that meant in 2 Chronicles. 00:37:35.78\00:37:37.09 Doug: Two thing, I think you have two different things 00:37:37.12\00:37:38.79 happening in the story where Abraham is interceding for the 00:37:38.82\00:37:42.26 city of Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:37:42.29\00:37:44.63 It wasn't just a famine. 00:37:44.66\00:37:47.20 See, when 2 Chronicles it says, "If God withholds the heaven, so 00:37:47.23\00:37:50.53 it does not rain." 00:37:50.57\00:37:52.27 He says, "If My people called by My name will humble themselves 00:37:52.30\00:37:55.10 and pray and turn, I will bless them with the rain of heaven." 00:37:55.14\00:37:59.64 In the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, God's getting ready to 00:37:59.67\00:38:01.78 annihilate these nations that have just totally given 00:38:01.81\00:38:06.35 themselves over to wickedness. 00:38:06.38\00:38:08.22 And so, there, Abraham is pleading for them to have 00:38:08.25\00:38:11.55 more time. 00:38:11.59\00:38:12.92 He's not saying they're gonna have good weather. 00:38:12.95\00:38:14.29 He's trying to save them from annihilation. 00:38:14.32\00:38:16.79 And God says, "Well, if there's still 10 or 12 people in the 00:38:16.83\00:38:19.93 city that can witness, there'll be salt, there'll be light, 00:38:19.96\00:38:22.66 there might be hope that there'll be a revival. 00:38:22.70\00:38:25.20 But if you don't have any witnesses there, then people are 00:38:25.23\00:38:28.74 fully given over to evil." 00:38:28.77\00:38:30.21 So, there's two different things happening there. 00:38:30.24\00:38:32.97 But I think the principle is still true that you find in 2 00:38:33.01\00:38:35.51 Chronicles that if a nation that is suffering under the judgments 00:38:35.54\00:38:39.65 of God, He's withdrawn His blessings. 00:38:39.68\00:38:41.28 If they'll humble themselves and pray, He did it for Israel 00:38:41.32\00:38:44.35 many times. 00:38:44.39\00:38:45.72 He can do it for our nation too. 00:38:45.75\00:38:47.66 Jëan: And I think it's got a broad application in addition to 00:38:47.69\00:38:49.89 just the nation and particularly Israel. 00:38:49.92\00:38:52.33 But it's also referring to the church, the people of God, there 00:38:52.36\00:38:55.16 is a revival needed amongst those who claim to be the 00:38:55.20\00:38:57.57 followers of Christ. 00:38:57.60\00:38:59.07 And that revival comes as a result of earnest 00:38:59.10\00:39:01.87 fervent prayer. 00:39:01.90\00:39:03.20 We're seeking the latter rain not just literal rain. 00:39:03.24\00:39:06.14 So this promise is incorporating a revival amongst God's people. 00:39:06.17\00:39:11.01 If they turn to Him in prayer as well. 00:39:11.05\00:39:13.05 Doug: That's right. 00:39:13.08\00:39:14.38 Jëan: All right, next one that we have is Xylyn in Texas. 00:39:14.42\00:39:17.85 Xylyn, welcome to the program. 00:39:17.89\00:39:19.95 Xylyn: Hi, Pastor Doug. 00:39:19.99\00:39:21.32 Doug: Hi. 00:39:21.36\00:39:22.66 Xylyn: I'm doing Bible study right now. 00:39:22.69\00:39:24.03 Do I have to know all the truth or what is it best to 00:39:24.06\00:39:27.00 get baptized? 00:39:27.03\00:39:28.30 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:39:28.33\00:39:29.70 Do I need to know all the truth? 00:39:29.73\00:39:31.73 No. 00:39:31.77\00:39:33.30 There are certain fundamentals that you should know both to 00:39:33.34\00:39:36.17 give a Bible study or for a person to be baptized. 00:39:36.20\00:39:39.17 Jesus says in Matthew chapter 28 says, "Go therefore and teach 00:39:39.21\00:39:43.41 all nations baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, 00:39:43.45\00:39:46.25 and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe 00:39:46.28\00:39:48.75 all things I've commanded you." 00:39:48.78\00:39:50.22 So, there is teaching before baptism. 00:39:50.25\00:39:52.35 And of course, there's a lot of teaching after baptism. 00:39:52.39\00:39:55.22 Before two people get married, they may not know everything 00:39:55.26\00:39:58.49 about the other person, but they wanna know that person well 00:39:58.53\00:40:01.40 enough to commit their life. 00:40:01.43\00:40:03.23 And before a person's baptized, well in our church, they go 00:40:03.26\00:40:07.04 through, you know about a dozen baptismal vows that are 00:40:07.07\00:40:10.77 the basics. 00:40:10.81\00:40:12.11 Need to know of course, the what that, who God is and that the 00:40:12.14\00:40:15.94 Bible is His Word, that it's holy and it's the bottom line 00:40:15.98\00:40:19.01 for our truth and believing in the commandments of God, 00:40:19.05\00:40:23.39 understand what sin is and the penalty for sin and salvation 00:40:23.42\00:40:26.19 from sin. 00:40:26.22\00:40:27.52 So, there's some basics a person needs to understand 00:40:27.56\00:40:29.52 before baptism. 00:40:29.56\00:40:30.99 But you can start giving Bible studies as soon as you 00:40:31.03\00:40:33.36 understand anything in the Bible. 00:40:33.40\00:40:35.26 Jesus sent the apostles out teaching before they knew a lot 00:40:35.30\00:40:39.17 and there's some, several things they didn't know. 00:40:39.20\00:40:42.10 Jëan: So, yes, keep studying, keep learning. 00:40:42.14\00:40:44.11 And you know, when you're ready, it's time to get baptized. 00:40:44.14\00:40:47.61 Doug: And by the way, Xylyn, is it Xylyn? 00:40:47.64\00:40:52.05 Jëan: Xylyn. 00:40:52.08\00:40:53.42 Doug: Xylyn, you're--giving Bible studies is the best way to 00:40:53.45\00:40:56.45 remember scripture. 00:40:56.48\00:40:57.82 As you share it with other people, you're gonna remember it 00:40:57.85\00:41:00.92 a lot better. 00:41:00.96\00:41:02.26 So, keep it up. 00:41:02.29\00:41:03.63 Jëan: Next one that we have is Peter listening in Maine. 00:41:03.66\00:41:05.63 Peter, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:41:05.66\00:41:07.96 Peter: Yeah, thank you, doctor. 00:41:07.96\00:41:09.26 I mean, Pastor Doug and Ross. 00:41:09.30\00:41:12.27 My question is from 1 Corinthians 11:20-21. 00:41:12.30\00:41:19.11 And it says, "Therefore when you come together in one place, it 00:41:19.14\00:41:22.98 is not to eat the Lord's supper. 00:41:23.01\00:41:25.21 For one is eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of 00:41:25.25\00:41:29.18 another; and one is hungry and another is drunk." 00:41:29.22\00:41:33.05 So, my question is when they partake of the Lord's supper, 00:41:33.09\00:41:39.03 it's not fermented wine. 00:41:39.06\00:41:40.36 So, why is somebody drunk? 00:41:40.40\00:41:43.53 Doug: Yeah, well, it wasn't supposed to be, the Corinthians 00:41:43.57\00:41:45.43 had a lot of problems. 00:41:45.47\00:41:46.80 They also had a man living with his stepmother. 00:41:46.84\00:41:49.60 And in the communion service it's not supposed to be 00:41:49.64\00:41:53.74 a meal so much as to satisfy hunger because it's 00:41:53.78\00:41:58.21 unleavened bread. 00:41:58.25\00:42:00.25 And it's supposed to be not only unleavened bread, it's supposed 00:42:00.28\00:42:02.55 to be unfermented wine because one is a sign of the purity of 00:42:02.58\00:42:07.09 Christ's flesh and the other is a purity of his blood, 00:42:07.12\00:42:10.73 his gospel. 00:42:10.76\00:42:12.16 And so, it is Babylon that has wine that makes people drunk. 00:42:12.19\00:42:15.53 So, the Corinthians, Paul is correcting them from doing 00:42:15.56\00:42:18.03 it wrong. 00:42:18.07\00:42:19.37 He said, "You're not only drinking wine too much, you 00:42:19.40\00:42:23.41 drink of the wrong kind and some people are coming thinking it's 00:42:23.44\00:42:26.78 a meal and they eat before you've even had the service and 00:42:26.81\00:42:29.58 someone has nothing left when they get there." 00:42:29.61\00:42:31.18 He said, "You guys don't understand." 00:42:31.21\00:42:32.95 So, I would not use the Corinthians as an example for 00:42:32.98\00:42:36.32 whether it's supposed to be fermented or not because Paul is 00:42:36.35\00:42:38.55 basically telling that you're doing it all wrong. 00:42:38.59\00:42:41.66 Jëan: And the good news is, you know, Paul wrote another letter 00:42:41.69\00:42:43.99 in 2 Corinthians and it appears a lot of the counsel that Paul 00:42:44.03\00:42:47.40 had given in 1 Corinthians had been heeded because it's a 00:42:47.40\00:42:50.23 little more encouraging and positive when he wrote 00:42:50.27\00:42:52.77 2 Corinthians. 00:42:52.80\00:42:54.10 Doug: He praises them for trying to right some of the wrong. 00:42:54.14\00:42:56.17 Jëan: Trying to do the right thing, yeah. 00:42:56.20\00:42:57.54 All right, thank you Peter. 00:42:57.57\00:42:58.87 Next call that we have is Alan in Virginia. 00:42:58.91\00:43:00.48 Alan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:43:00.51\00:43:02.24 Alan: Hello, I just was wanted to ask if abortion 00:43:02.28\00:43:06.55 is unbiblical? 00:43:06.58\00:43:08.55 Doug: Yeah. 00:43:08.58\00:43:09.92 Simple question, simple answer would be yes. 00:43:09.95\00:43:13.39 Now let me give you some verses for that. 00:43:13.42\00:43:15.92 First of all just going to, and I know this is a very sensitive 00:43:15.96\00:43:19.56 divisive topic in our country right now. 00:43:19.59\00:43:22.30 But the question is, is human life sacred? 00:43:22.33\00:43:26.50 Well, the Bible says, yes, that people are made in the image of 00:43:26.53\00:43:29.90 God and that that life should be preserved and protected. 00:43:29.94\00:43:34.24 When does human life begin? 00:43:34.28\00:43:36.58 The only place that you can pinpoint when you know it would 00:43:36.61\00:43:40.25 begin is that conception when the cells of the man and the 00:43:40.28\00:43:45.29 woman spark into life and create a new being. 00:43:45.32\00:43:49.09 And in the Bible prior to birth, it talks about the baby within 00:43:49.12\00:43:53.86 Elizabeth who is John the Baptist leaping at the tidings 00:43:53.90\00:43:57.13 of Mary when she comes to visit. 00:43:57.17\00:43:59.27 So here she's I think six months along at that time, if we 00:43:59.30\00:44:03.04 calculate correctly, Mary's three months along. 00:44:03.07\00:44:06.11 And she says, "The babe leapt inside me at the tidings of 00:44:06.14\00:44:11.05 your coming." 00:44:11.08\00:44:12.38 Well, it treats it like a man like a human. 00:44:12.41\00:44:14.78 And when Bathsheba discovers that she's pregnant, she doesn't 00:44:14.82\00:44:17.89 say to David, "I've got, you know, fetal tissue." 00:44:17.92\00:44:19.72 She says, "I am with child." 00:44:19.75\00:44:21.66 Child is a child and she may have only been missed a period 00:44:21.69\00:44:26.66 or two and two or three months along and she said it was 00:44:26.70\00:44:29.06 a baby. 00:44:29.10\00:44:30.43 So I think the Bible is pretty clear that human life is sacred. 00:44:30.47\00:44:35.17 Now, is it an unpardonable sin? 00:44:35.20\00:44:37.17 No. 00:44:37.21\00:44:38.91 You know, there's a lot of people out there that made 00:44:38.94\00:44:42.54 decisions for abortion and God is a merciful God and He 00:44:42.58\00:44:47.05 will forgive. 00:44:47.08\00:44:48.38 But I think that you have to respect human life is sacred. 00:44:48.42\00:44:51.19 Jëan: Okay, thank you. 00:44:51.22\00:44:52.52 The next call that we have is Tang in Washington. 00:44:52.55\00:44:54.46 Tang, welcome to the program. 00:44:54.49\00:44:56.52 Tang: Hey pastor. 00:44:56.56\00:44:57.89 Thank you for having me. 00:44:57.93\00:44:59.26 Doug: Thank you. 00:44:59.29\00:45:02.10 Tang: So, I have been reflecting on the idea of once saved 00:45:02.13\00:45:06.77 always saved. 00:45:06.80\00:45:08.10 And I would love to hear your perspective on this. 00:45:08.14\00:45:10.91 You know, your salvation is something that is secure when a 00:45:10.94\00:45:14.34 person accept Christ or are there steps, 00:45:14.38\00:45:18.41 or one must continuously, you know, to take 00:45:18.45\00:45:21.02 to maintain your salvation? 00:45:21.05\00:45:23.89 And how does the scripture support either of you? 00:45:23.92\00:45:27.39 Doug: Yeah. 00:45:27.42\00:45:28.76 Well, great question. 00:45:28.79\00:45:30.09 And by the way, your question is one that's been debated by 00:45:30.13\00:45:32.13 Christians for over a thousand years. 00:45:32.16\00:45:34.96 So, I wanna tell you that I know there are Christians out there 00:45:35.00\00:45:39.80 that love the Lord that will disagree with me. 00:45:39.83\00:45:42.50 But it's like, I don't know if it's 50/50 the Christians who 00:45:42.54\00:45:45.41 believe in, you know, Calvinism and once saved, always saved. 00:45:45.44\00:45:47.98 And then those that believe that you need to maintain your 00:45:48.01\00:45:50.71 relationship with the Lord. 00:45:50.75\00:45:52.48 There's a lot of verses in the Bible that seem to indicate that 00:45:52.51\00:45:55.75 a saved person can be lost. 00:45:55.78\00:45:58.12 Paul said, you know, it, "I press on. 00:45:58.15\00:46:01.52 Said, "Lest I preach to others and I myself am a castaway." 00:46:01.56\00:46:05.29 Bible talks in Hebrews chapter 6 about those who are full of the 00:46:05.33\00:46:09.96 Holy Spirit and walking with the Lord. 00:46:10.00\00:46:11.37 If they turn away, if they fall away, it's impossible 00:46:11.40\00:46:14.57 to renew them to repentance. 00:46:14.60\00:46:16.14 In Revelation, message to the church 00:46:16.17\00:46:18.57 was to say He's talking to the church. 00:46:18.61\00:46:20.64 He says, "I will remove your candlestick." 00:46:20.68\00:46:22.81 Jëan: That's right. 00:46:22.84\00:46:24.18 And He says those who don't repent, He blots their name out 00:46:24.21\00:46:26.01 of the Book of Life, so-- 00:46:26.05\00:46:27.45 Doug: The name was in the book and then it's blotted out. 00:46:27.48\00:46:30.25 Jesus said those that abide in Him, if they don't bear fruit, 00:46:30.29\00:46:34.32 they are taken away. 00:46:34.36\00:46:36.16 So, and that's John 15. 00:46:36.19\00:46:38.13 So there's, I believe there's a scores of scriptures. 00:46:38.16\00:46:41.63 And then you've got examples of people like Judas who Jesus sent 00:46:41.66\00:46:45.93 out preaching, teaching, casting out devils and--but he would not 00:46:45.97\00:46:49.37 fully surrender and be--he gave into his greed. 00:46:49.40\00:46:51.94 And, you know, some will say, well, he never was saved. 00:46:51.97\00:46:54.71 And all right, let's accept that. 00:46:54.74\00:46:56.21 What about King Saul? 00:46:56.24\00:46:57.91 King Saul was chosen by the Lord, 00:46:57.95\00:46:59.35 filled with the Holy Spirit, even prophesied, 00:46:59.38\00:47:01.98 and he ended up grieving away the Holy Spirit 00:47:02.02\00:47:04.69 and fell on his own sword. 00:47:04.72\00:47:06.59 Balaam was a prophet of God, but like Judas, he became 00:47:06.62\00:47:10.39 preoccupied with materialism and greed and he died a lost man. 00:47:10.43\00:47:15.06 And Revelation says so. 00:47:15.10\00:47:16.70 So, you just--it's reckless, 00:47:16.73\00:47:19.47 I think, now at the heart of this question is someone wants 00:47:19.50\00:47:23.34 to know. 00:47:23.37\00:47:24.61 What they're really asking is, "Can I have security about my 00:47:24.64\00:47:28.48 relationship with the Lord?" 00:47:28.51\00:47:29.84 I would say, "Yes." 00:47:29.88\00:47:31.65 God will never let go of you. 00:47:31.68\00:47:33.98 That doesn't mean we've lost our freedom to jerk our hand out of 00:47:34.02\00:47:36.65 His hand. 00:47:36.69\00:47:38.02 But Karen and I made vows when we got married and we made a 00:47:38.05\00:47:42.59 covenant and I am absolutely secure that I love her. 00:47:42.62\00:47:46.76 She loves me, that she will be faithful and I will be faithful. 00:47:46.80\00:47:50.10 I don't worry about it. 00:47:50.13\00:47:51.63 I've got confidence because I love her and I have faith in her 00:47:51.67\00:47:55.44 and she feels the same way. 00:47:55.47\00:47:57.11 Do we have freedom? 00:47:57.14\00:47:59.54 I mean, if we wanted to, could we violate those vows and 00:47:59.57\00:48:02.64 get divorced? 00:48:02.68\00:48:03.98 Yeah, we have that freedom. 00:48:04.01\00:48:05.35 Does it happen to some people? 00:48:05.38\00:48:06.68 It does. 00:48:06.72\00:48:08.05 But can you have security in your relationship? 00:48:08.08\00:48:09.88 You can. 00:48:09.92\00:48:11.25 And Jesus loves you. 00:48:11.29\00:48:12.82 He wants to save you, everybody listening. 00:48:12.85\00:48:15.32 And if you'll surrender your life to Him, it says He will be 00:48:15.36\00:48:18.33 the author and the finisher of your faith. 00:48:18.36\00:48:20.26 You can have security that He has begun a good work in you and 00:48:20.30\00:48:23.83 He will perform it. 00:48:23.87\00:48:25.20 Once people know that they can have security, they don't fight 00:48:25.23\00:48:28.27 for once saved always saved. 00:48:28.30\00:48:29.60 Jëan: We do have a book called, "Can a Saved Man Choose to 00:48:29.64\00:48:31.51 be Lost?" 00:48:31.54\00:48:32.87 And it deals with this very subject and we'll send it to 00:48:32.91\00:48:34.54 anyone who calls and asks. 00:48:34.58\00:48:35.91 The number again is 800-835-6747. 00:48:35.94\00:48:38.45 Just call and ask "Can a Saved Man Choose to be Lost?" 00:48:38.48\00:48:42.15 Let me try to make it easy for you to get it. 00:48:42.18\00:48:43.79 Just dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:48:43.82\00:48:46.69 Say "Bible Answers Live" and ask for the book, "Can a Saved Man 00:48:46.72\00:48:49.29 Choose to be Lost?" 00:48:49.32\00:48:50.79 We got Jody in Canada. 00:48:50.83\00:48:53.03 Jody, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:48:53.06\00:48:54.56 Jody: Thank you. 00:48:54.56\00:48:56.23 Yes, I'm calling from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. 00:48:56.26\00:48:59.87 Today my question is John 14:12. 00:48:59.90\00:49:05.31 I'd love to know the meaning of it and it reads, "I tell you the 00:49:05.34\00:49:09.68 truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same work I have 00:49:09.71\00:49:13.88 done, and even greater works, because I'm going to be with 00:49:13.92\00:49:16.85 the Father." 00:49:16.89\00:49:18.39 Doug: Yeah, people read that verse, Christ says that we will 00:49:18.42\00:49:21.42 do even greater works. 00:49:21.46\00:49:22.76 How can anybody do greater works than Jesus? 00:49:22.79\00:49:26.06 Well, He's not saying greater in magnificence. 00:49:26.09\00:49:29.10 He's saying greater in extent because He said, look, I can't 00:49:29.13\00:49:33.67 stay here and preach to all of Israel and preach to the world. 00:49:33.70\00:49:37.81 But, because I'm going to the Father. 00:49:37.84\00:49:39.97 "But you will have an even greater extent in your work in 00:49:40.01\00:49:44.31 that you will go into other countries and the expanse of the 00:49:44.35\00:49:48.25 work of Christianity has gone around the world through 00:49:48.28\00:49:52.55 His disciples." 00:49:52.59\00:49:54.26 So, that's what Christ is talking about. 00:49:54.29\00:49:55.79 He's not saying that, you know, his work of dying on the cross, 00:49:55.82\00:49:59.26 no human can surpass that. 00:49:59.29\00:50:01.23 And the miracles He performed, raising someone dead for 00:50:01.26\00:50:04.30 four days. 00:50:04.33\00:50:05.63 I don't think anyone surpassed that, but He's saying the extent 00:50:05.67\00:50:09.14 of the territory you'll go even to greater places than Me, which 00:50:09.17\00:50:13.64 has happened. 00:50:13.68\00:50:14.98 Christianity and the disciples, they went into the whole 00:50:15.01\00:50:17.51 civilized world back then. 00:50:17.55\00:50:19.41 Good question, thank you. 00:50:19.45\00:50:20.75 Jëan: We've got Max in Florida. 00:50:20.78\00:50:22.55 Max, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:50:22.58\00:50:24.79 Max: Yes. 00:50:24.82\00:50:26.15 So my question is about the, I know it's a controversial about 00:50:26.19\00:50:30.56 sacrifice, but I wanted to know where does God actually states 00:50:30.59\00:50:34.63 that he no longer accepted sacrifices if they were with a 00:50:34.66\00:50:40.90 contrite heart? 00:50:40.94\00:50:42.24 Doug: Well, even in the Old Testament, you can read in the 00:50:42.27\00:50:47.11 book of Malachi and also in the Psalms where He said, 00:50:47.14\00:50:51.01 "Sacrifice, I did not desire." 00:50:51.05\00:50:55.15 And in Malachi, He says, you know, "Are you going to appease 00:50:55.18\00:50:57.99 Me with bulls and rams and rivers of blood?" 00:50:58.02\00:51:01.79 He says, "I've shown you, O man, what is good, what does the 00:51:01.82\00:51:03.99 Lord require of you. 00:51:04.03\00:51:05.36 Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with your God." 00:51:05.39\00:51:09.10 And all through the Scriptures, the main thing the Lord wants. 00:51:09.13\00:51:12.97 And then what--who was it? 00:51:13.00\00:51:14.30 King Saul said, "Look, we've got a whole flock we're gonna 00:51:14.34\00:51:16.10 sacrifice to the Lord." 00:51:16.14\00:51:17.71 And Samuel said, "To obey is better than sacrifice." 00:51:17.74\00:51:21.31 So, what the Lord has always wanted was people's hearts. 00:51:21.34\00:51:24.21 It's only the sacrifice of Jesus, His blood. 00:51:24.25\00:51:27.42 You know, it's like that song. 00:51:27.45\00:51:28.75 "What can wash away my sin? 00:51:28.78\00:51:30.15 Nothing but the blood of Jesus." 00:51:30.19\00:51:31.49 It's not the blood of goats and sheep. 00:51:31.52\00:51:33.39 That was all a symbol. 00:51:33.42\00:51:35.39 And what really matters is the blood of Christ. 00:51:35.42\00:51:38.63 Now Christ, when He left the temple the last time He said, 00:51:38.66\00:51:41.36 "Your house is left to you desolate." 00:51:41.40\00:51:43.30 The high priest tore his robes at the trial of Christ. 00:51:43.33\00:51:46.60 When Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn. 00:51:46.63\00:51:50.17 That whole ancient system has been torn now. 00:51:50.21\00:51:54.34 Now, Christ is our Passover according to Paul. 00:51:54.38\00:51:58.01 Jëan: Couple of verses that refer to what you said, 00:51:58.05\00:52:00.42 Pastor Doug. 00:52:00.45\00:52:01.75 Psalms 40 verse 6, "Sacrifice and offerings you did 00:52:01.78\00:52:04.42 not desire." 00:52:04.45\00:52:05.79 And then that's quote in Hebrews chapter 10 with reference 00:52:05.82\00:52:08.59 to Jesus. 00:52:08.62\00:52:09.92 It says, "Therefore, when Christ came to the world, He said: 00:52:09.96\00:52:11.69 'Sacrifice and offerings you did not desire, but a body you have 00:52:11.73\00:52:14.56 prepared for Me.'" 00:52:14.56\00:52:15.90 So, Jesus is our sacrifice. 00:52:15.93\00:52:17.90 He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. 00:52:17.93\00:52:20.30 There's no value in sacrificing lambs today. 00:52:20.34\00:52:23.17 Doug: That's a slam dunk scripture there. 00:52:23.20\00:52:25.07 It makes it pretty clear. 00:52:25.11\00:52:26.44 Jëan: It makes it clear. 00:52:26.47\00:52:27.78 All right, thank you. 00:52:27.81\00:52:29.11 Next call on that we have is let's see, Vicky in Colorado. 00:52:29.14\00:52:31.85 Vicky, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:52:31.88\00:52:33.18 Vicky: Hi, I was reading in 2 Samuel 24 and David was 00:52:33.21\00:52:39.55 encouraged by Joab to take a census and the Lord did not 00:52:39.59\00:52:45.16 approve it. 00:52:45.19\00:52:46.49 And I heard that Phineas was the one that actually stopped a 00:52:46.53\00:52:53.13 plague that was one of the choices that David had to make 00:52:53.17\00:52:58.37 for his punishment. 00:52:58.41\00:52:59.77 And I'd like to know a little bit more about that. 00:52:59.81\00:53:02.81 Doug: Okay, there are two things. 00:53:02.84\00:53:04.75 So, one you're asking about when David numbered Israel and there 00:53:04.78\00:53:08.65 was a plague and actually David offered sacrifice on Mount Zion. 00:53:08.68\00:53:14.79 Later, it became the, an angel appeared and it became the place 00:53:14.82\00:53:18.43 where the temple was built. 00:53:18.46\00:53:19.79 Where Phineas stopped the plague, I think it's, that's the 00:53:19.83\00:53:22.20 book of Numbers. 00:53:22.23\00:53:23.57 When the men of Israel began to have feasts with the Moabites 00:53:23.60\00:53:27.77 and the Moabite women came into the camp and one of them was so 00:53:27.80\00:53:30.71 bold that he took a Moabite princess right into his tent in 00:53:30.74\00:53:33.84 front of the whole congregation. 00:53:33.88\00:53:35.68 And Phineas, the priest came and basically he shish kabob'd 00:53:35.71\00:53:38.48 the two of them and God praised him for his zeal 00:53:38.51\00:53:41.55 in stopping the plague because of their immorality 00:53:41.58\00:53:46.99 and that women had led them into sin. 00:53:47.02\00:53:50.43 So that, these things are separated by hundreds of years. 00:53:50.46\00:53:53.03 Now, is there another Phineas in the Bible? 00:53:53.06\00:53:55.53 Well, there may be, I was gonna do a search. 00:53:55.56\00:53:57.03 I didn't have time, but it's not an uncommon name. 00:53:57.07\00:54:00.04 And I'm sure if you go to the Book of Numbers, I'm thinking 00:54:00.07\00:54:02.34 you will find another Phineas. 00:54:02.37\00:54:04.27 But there Chronicles. 00:54:04.31\00:54:06.04 Thank you, Vicky. 00:54:06.07\00:54:07.41 Appreciate your question. 00:54:07.44\00:54:08.74 Jëan: Another call that we have in Florida. 00:54:08.78\00:54:10.11 Trecia from Florida. 00:54:10.15\00:54:11.88 Trecia, welcome to the program. 00:54:11.91\00:54:13.25 Trecia: Yes. 00:54:13.28\00:54:14.75 Good night Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:54:14.78\00:54:17.09 My question is, yes good evening. 00:54:17.12\00:54:19.85 My question is John chapter 3 verse 8 where it says, "The wind 00:54:19.89\00:54:23.39 blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but can I 00:54:23.43\00:54:27.46 tell where it comes from and where it goes. 00:54:27.50\00:54:30.27 So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." 00:54:30.30\00:54:32.53 Can you explain that more? 00:54:32.57\00:54:33.97 Like, expound on it. 00:54:34.00\00:54:35.34 Doug: Yeah, it is somewhat mysterious but I'll expound a 00:54:35.37\00:54:38.51 little more. 00:54:38.54\00:54:39.84 Of course, we can see the results of the wind. 00:54:39.87\00:54:41.74 You can't see wind, but you can see when wind moves the trees. 00:54:41.78\00:54:45.58 If I want to know if the wind is blowing, I don't look straight 00:54:45.61\00:54:48.02 up at a blue sky because you can't see it. 00:54:48.05\00:54:50.02 But if I look horizontally and I see papers rolling by and leaves 00:54:50.05\00:54:53.12 blowing by, then in my garbage can, you know, half a mile away, 00:54:53.15\00:54:57.19 then I know the wind is blowing. 00:54:57.23\00:54:59.09 So, we can see the results of the spirit on a person's heart 00:54:59.13\00:55:04.20 in that there's a transformation and we don't know exactly 00:55:04.23\00:55:07.77 when that might happen. 00:55:07.80\00:55:09.14 Now, being born of the water is something we can choose. 00:55:09.17\00:55:12.47 We can pick a date, we can go to the Jordan, we can get baptized. 00:55:12.51\00:55:16.44 When you get born of the Spirit, we cannot choose. 00:55:16.48\00:55:20.62 The wind blows where it lists. 00:55:20.65\00:55:22.32 In other words, you pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and 00:55:22.35\00:55:26.35 God may give it right then and He may give it later. 00:55:26.39\00:55:29.69 But you should always be praying for the Spirit. 00:55:29.72\00:55:31.59 So Jesus said, you know, "The working of the Spirit and the 00:55:31.63\00:55:33.60 timing may surprise you like the wind." 00:55:33.63\00:55:37.13 And then at Pentecost, it says there was a sound of a mighty 00:55:37.17\00:55:39.93 rushing wind when the Holy Spirit fell upon them. 00:55:39.97\00:55:42.67 So that was a symbol of that. 00:55:42.70\00:55:44.37 Jëan: All right, last call, I think we have time 00:55:44.41\00:55:45.97 for Steven in Canada. 00:55:46.01\00:55:47.41 Steven, we got about a minute. 00:55:47.44\00:55:48.78 Steven: Good evening. 00:55:48.81\00:55:50.25 I would like to know, I read before that the seal of God is 00:55:50.28\00:55:53.58 going to be the Shabbat after the Ten Commandments. 00:55:53.62\00:55:57.09 Doug: Yeah. 00:55:57.12\00:55:58.45 Well, the seal of God is, first and foremost is the Holy Spirit. 00:55:58.49\00:56:04.29 And, but within it, in the seal of God, it says in Isaiah 00:56:04.33\00:56:09.23 chapter 8, I think it's verse 16, "Bind up the testimony, seal 00:56:09.26\00:56:13.70 the law among My disciples." 00:56:13.74\00:56:15.74 The Spirit of God seals the law of God in our hearts. 00:56:15.77\00:56:20.38 And a seal contains three things. 00:56:20.41\00:56:23.08 It typically has the title of an official, their name, 00:56:23.11\00:56:27.35 their territory. 00:56:27.38\00:56:28.98 And you know, when Daniel was put in the lion's den, a seal 00:56:29.02\00:56:34.06 was placed on the stone and it said, 00:56:34.09\00:56:36.39 "Darius, king, Medo-Persia." 00:56:36.42\00:56:38.36 Pontius Pilate put Jesus in the tomb or when is when He was put 00:56:38.39\00:56:43.50 in the tomb, a stone was rolled, Pilate put a seal on it. 00:56:43.53\00:56:46.43 And the seal probably said, "Pilate, Governor, Judea." 00:56:46.47\00:56:50.37 Title, territory, the name. 00:56:50.41\00:56:53.24 And in the law of God, you've got the seal of God in the 00:56:53.27\00:56:57.58 fourth commandment. 00:56:57.61\00:56:59.11 "For in six days," it says, "The Lord," that's His name, 00:56:59.15\00:57:02.38 "Created," that's His office. 00:57:02.42\00:57:04.05 He's a creator, sustainer, "Heavens and the earth, 00:57:04.09\00:57:06.55 everything above and below." 00:57:06.59\00:57:07.96 That's His territory. 00:57:07.99\00:57:09.52 So, some have said, well, the seal of God is the only place 00:57:09.56\00:57:12.09 you find the word holy in the Ten Commandments. 00:57:12.13\00:57:15.46 And that while the Holy Spirit is the prominent, first and 00:57:15.50\00:57:19.53 foremost seal that in His holy law, there's one commandment 00:57:19.57\00:57:23.44 where you find the word holy and one of the characteristics of 00:57:23.47\00:57:27.11 God's people that will have the name of the Father in 00:57:27.14\00:57:29.24 their forehead. 00:57:29.28\00:57:30.61 The seal of God in the last says is gonna be the Sabbath truth 00:57:30.65\00:57:33.85 and that would be the seal. 00:57:33.88\00:57:35.15 Jëan: We do have a free offer that we'd be happy to send to 00:57:35.18\00:57:37.45 anyone who
