male announcer: It is the best selling book in history. 00:00:03.13\00:00:05.70 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.73\00:00:09.80 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.84\00:00:13.74 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.78\00:00:15.88 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.54\00:00:19.85 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate 00:00:19.88\00:00:23.69 and practical answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:23.72\00:00:26.79 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.43 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.46\00:00:33.53 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.56\00:00:38.37 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.00\00:00:43.30 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.14\00:00:47.78 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.81\00:00:49.64 Doug Batchelor: Well, friends, would you like to hear 00:00:50.05\00:00:51.35 an amazing fact? 00:00:51.38\00:00:52.71 From its first flight in 1969 for 35 years until 2005, 00:00:53.11\00:00:59.39 the Boeing 747 reigned supreme as the largest passenger plane 00:00:59.42\00:01:03.93 in the world. 00:01:03.96\00:01:05.29 Everything about the plane was big, so big that a new building 00:01:05.33\00:01:09.33 had to be constructed to assemble it. 00:01:09.36\00:01:11.57 The main building where the Boeing was built in Everett, 00:01:11.60\00:01:14.34 Washington, was the world's largest building by volume, 00:01:14.37\00:01:18.24 covering nearly 100 acres that enclosed an impressive 00:01:18.27\00:01:23.08 472 million cubic feet of space. 00:01:23.11\00:01:26.15 That's enough room to contain Disneyland with 12 acres left 00:01:26.18\00:01:29.15 over for parking. 00:01:29.18\00:01:30.72 The wingspan of the original 747-100 model was 195 feet and 00:01:30.75\00:01:36.32 8 inches. 00:01:36.36\00:01:37.59 This is longer than the first flight of the Wright Brothers. 00:01:37.63\00:01:41.13 So, how many passengers can you fit on a Boeing 747? 00:01:41.16\00:01:45.40 Normally, it was somewhere between 400 and 500. 00:01:45.43\00:01:48.97 But there's one case where 747 carried over 1000 passengers. 00:01:49.00\00:01:54.64 On May 24th, 1991 as part of Operation Solomon to evacuate 00:01:54.68\00:01:59.68 Ethiopian Jews to Israel, an EL AL Boeing 747-400 took off from 00:01:59.71\00:02:05.85 Addis Abba with 1086 passengers and landed in Israel with 1088. 00:02:05.89\00:02:12.33 Two babies were born en route. 00:02:12.36\00:02:14.30 This flight still holds the record as the largest number of 00:02:14.36\00:02:17.77 passengers in one aircraft. 00:02:17.80\00:02:20.57 Brother Alden, you know, I think about in the Bible where it says 00:02:20.60\00:02:23.61 God is going to evacuate His people to another Promised Land, 00:02:23.64\00:02:28.11 and we're looking forward to that, but that's a pretty big 00:02:28.14\00:02:31.41 payload to carry over 1000 people on one flight. 00:02:31.45\00:02:34.78 Alden Ho: But the cloud's going to carry even more people 00:02:34.82\00:02:37.12 than that. 00:02:37.15\00:02:38.45 Doug: That's right, and you know, there's a verse 00:02:38.49\00:02:39.79 in the Bible that tells us about that. 00:02:39.82\00:02:41.16 You can read in 1 Thessalonians 4:16, "For the Lord Himself will 00:02:41.19\00:02:45.23 descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice 00:02:45.26\00:02:47.76 of an archangel, and the trumpet of God. 00:02:47.83\00:02:49.80 And the dead in Christ will rise first. 00:02:49.83\00:02:52.40 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together 00:02:52.43\00:02:56.04 with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. 00:02:56.07\00:02:58.54 And thus we shall always be with the Lord." 00:02:58.57\00:03:01.68 And so, I was reading the history of this 00:03:01.71\00:03:03.95 incredible evacuation. 00:03:03.98\00:03:06.51 Israel, actually, they chose to do this on the Sabbath. 00:03:06.55\00:03:11.19 And what they did is, for one thing, they needed all 00:03:11.22\00:03:13.72 the available airplanes because Ethiopia was going to close 00:03:13.76\00:03:17.36 the gate, allowing the Ethiopian Jews to leave. 00:03:17.39\00:03:19.46 They weren't going to let them leave after a certain deadline. 00:03:19.49\00:03:21.90 So they had to mobilize as many planes as they could. 00:03:21.93\00:03:25.00 And according to their law, you know, acts of mercy to save life 00:03:25.03\00:03:28.47 were permitted. 00:03:28.50\00:03:29.80 And so they sent all these airplanes down and just filled 00:03:29.84\00:03:33.01 them up. 00:03:33.04\00:03:34.28 This one plane had over 1000, but there were lots of planes 00:03:34.31\00:03:36.81 and they brought thousands of these Ethiopian Jews who were 00:03:36.85\00:03:39.95 being persecuted into Israel, where many of them are today. 00:03:39.98\00:03:43.79 Alden: That's amazing. 00:03:43.82\00:03:45.15 You know, we have a study guide on this that deals also with 00:03:45.19\00:03:48.02 the very same thing. 00:03:48.06\00:03:49.36 But this is the "Ultimate Deliverance," for us when 00:03:49.39\00:03:51.83 Jesus returns. 00:03:51.86\00:03:53.16 And you can receive this if you actually call 1-800-835-6747. 00:03:53.19\00:03:59.40 Or, let me explain to you, on your phone if you're--happen to 00:03:59.43\00:04:02.40 be driving, to make it easy than punching in all those numbers, 00:04:02.44\00:04:05.74 you can just hit #250 on your phone and say 00:04:05.77\00:04:08.94 "Bible Answers Live" and ask for "Ultimate Deliverance," 00:04:08.98\00:04:11.51 and we'll be glad to send that to you. 00:04:11.55\00:04:13.21 And before we start, why don't we begin with a word of prayer? 00:04:13.25\00:04:16.55 Loving Father, we thank You for this opportunity to be able 00:04:16.58\00:04:19.45 to answer some questions from Your Word. 00:04:19.49\00:04:21.56 We ask and pray that You would be with us and guide and direct 00:04:21.59\00:04:24.66 us and show us what it is that we should answer to those 00:04:24.69\00:04:28.20 who are calling, and continue to lead us into all truth. 00:04:28.23\00:04:31.27 We pray in Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:31.30\00:04:33.97 We have our first caller, Grace. 00:04:34.00\00:04:35.47 She's in California and she has a question regarding 00:04:35.50\00:04:38.34 the Ten Commandments. 00:04:38.37\00:04:39.71 Grace, are you there? 00:04:39.74\00:04:41.04 Welcome. 00:04:41.08\00:04:42.38 Grace: Yes, yes, good evening, my question is about 00:04:42.41\00:04:46.65 the Ten Commandments. 00:04:46.68\00:04:47.98 I'm doing the lesson "Written on the Stone!" 00:04:48.02\00:04:50.45 from Amazing Facts with my friend, and they asked me 00:04:50.49\00:04:52.99 this question: Were the Ten Commandments there in heaven 00:04:53.02\00:04:56.66 before the fall of Lucifer? 00:04:56.69\00:04:58.19 Doug: Were the Ten Commandments in existence before the fall 00:04:58.23\00:05:02.10 of Lucifer? 00:05:02.13\00:05:03.43 You could even say before the Fall of Man. 00:05:03.47\00:05:05.03 The principles of the Ten Commandments have always been 00:05:05.07\00:05:07.77 in existence because the Ten Commandments are 00:05:07.80\00:05:11.01 basically an expression of love. 00:05:11.04\00:05:12.34 God is love. 00:05:12.37\00:05:13.81 The first four commandments deal with our love for God, 00:05:13.84\00:05:17.15 the last deal with our love for our fellow man. 00:05:17.18\00:05:20.28 In the very beginning, you look in the Garden of Eden, and right 00:05:20.32\00:05:23.85 after Adam and Eve were evicted, before the Ten Commandments were 00:05:23.89\00:05:27.06 written down, God said to Cain, "Sin lies at your door." 00:05:27.09\00:05:31.53 Cain knew that murder was a sin. 00:05:31.56\00:05:34.40 And Joseph, before the Ten Commandments were written, 00:05:34.46\00:05:37.83 he said to Potiphar's wife, "How can I commit this sin 00:05:37.87\00:05:40.04 against God?" 00:05:40.07\00:05:41.40 Joseph knew that adultery was a sin before the Ten Commandments 00:05:41.44\00:05:44.74 were written. 00:05:44.77\00:05:46.07 So you can find that the principles of the 00:05:46.11\00:05:47.54 Ten Commandments have been in existence ever since Creation. 00:05:47.58\00:05:51.25 You know, the Sabbath may not have been in existence on our 00:05:51.28\00:05:53.78 planet before the seventh day, but the principles of the 00:05:53.82\00:05:57.75 Ten Commandments, being love for God and love for others, 00:05:57.79\00:06:00.89 have always been in existence, or eternal. 00:06:00.92\00:06:03.26 Alden: We actually have a free offer on that, it's called 00:06:03.29\00:06:06.03 "Written in Stone!" 00:06:06.06\00:06:07.36 And if you call 1-800-835-6747, we'll be glad to send that 00:06:07.40\00:06:12.20 to you. 00:06:12.23\00:06:13.54 And if you happen to be driving and you want to actually call 00:06:13.57\00:06:15.27 in on the program, you can call 1-800-463-7297. 00:06:15.30\00:06:21.34 We have another caller here. 00:06:21.38\00:06:23.21 Glenn in Ohio, he's got a question regarding Colossians 2. 00:06:23.24\00:06:27.25 Glenn, are you there? 00:06:27.28\00:06:28.62 Glenn: Yes, it is. 00:06:28.65\00:06:29.95 Thank you very much and good evening to you 00:06:29.98\00:06:31.85 from Bethel, Ohio. 00:06:31.89\00:06:33.19 Doug: Good evening, Glenn. 00:06:33.22\00:06:34.62 Glenn: People still today have a problem with Colossians 2:16. 00:06:34.66\00:06:41.20 And the problem that I see there is a couple of 00:06:41.23\00:06:43.70 grammatical problems. 00:06:43.73\00:06:45.57 Number one is "let no man." 00:06:45.60\00:06:47.64 I think the elocution of the word "man" is very important 00:06:47.67\00:06:51.17 because you shouldn't let any--just any man in general 00:06:51.21\00:06:55.98 can judge you in meat and drink and holy days and Sabbath. 00:06:56.01\00:07:01.65 And so, it's important that you allocate that property, that you 00:07:01.68\00:07:05.22 not--that you are talking about a general population and not 00:07:05.25\00:07:09.42 somebody that's in the know. 00:07:09.46\00:07:11.56 The other grammatical areas in the second part of the verse 00:07:11.59\00:07:14.73 where it's in italics and was added by the translators. 00:07:14.76\00:07:18.63 So if you take that out of there, you come out with, 00:07:18.67\00:07:21.54 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or drink, or holyday, 00:07:21.57\00:07:25.24 or sabbath: but the body of Christ judge you," 00:07:25.27\00:07:30.95 and you put a little trailer on the end there to judge you. 00:07:30.98\00:07:33.48 I think it makes sense, that the statement is being made that 00:07:33.52\00:07:37.82 you want somebody who's in the know to judge you by keeping 00:07:37.85\00:07:40.89 those special days. 00:07:40.92\00:07:42.46 Doug: All right, Glenn, what is your question? 00:07:42.49\00:07:44.33 Glenn: Does it make sense, that proper interpretation? 00:07:44.36\00:07:48.30 Doug: All right, first, for our friends listening, let me read 00:07:48.33\00:07:50.30 the verse because a lot of folks are driving down the road and 00:07:50.33\00:07:53.13 they're going, "Colossians 2?" 00:07:53.17\00:07:54.77 They may not know what that is. 00:07:54.80\00:07:56.30 So, here Paul is speaking in Colossians and he's talking to 00:07:56.34\00:07:59.81 Colossians believers that were sort of being, probably, 00:07:59.84\00:08:03.38 hassled a little bit by some of the Jewish Christians. 00:08:03.41\00:08:05.88 These are Christians--or Jews who had accepted Christ that 00:08:05.91\00:08:09.28 were saying, "Now that you've accepted Christ, you still need 00:08:09.32\00:08:12.15 to keep some of the Mosaic Laws, the annual feasts, and, like, 00:08:12.19\00:08:15.86 the Passover, Day of Atonement, and some of the new moons 00:08:15.89\00:08:19.06 and festivals." 00:08:19.09\00:08:20.43 And Paul said, "Don't let them judge you regarding 00:08:20.46\00:08:22.33 those things, which are shadows of things to come, 00:08:22.36\00:08:25.30 but the substances of Christ." 00:08:25.33\00:08:26.87 Now, the substance of those Old Testament ordinances 00:08:26.90\00:08:32.77 was pointing to Jesus. 00:08:32.81\00:08:34.31 When Jesus came, when He died on the cross, He died on the 00:08:34.34\00:08:37.71 Passover, the veil in the temple was torn in two, the ceremonial 00:08:37.75\00:08:41.82 system was really brought to an end at that point. 00:08:41.85\00:08:45.35 But the Ten Commandments, that's a separate thing. 00:08:45.39\00:08:47.32 So some people say where it says, "Don't let any man judge 00:08:47.36\00:08:50.66 you regarding Sabbath Days," it's talking about the Jewish 00:08:50.69\00:08:53.50 annual Sabbath Days. 00:08:53.53\00:08:55.06 It's not talking about the Sabbath of the weekly cycle. 00:08:55.10\00:08:59.83 But--and then you said, "But let the body of Christ judge you," 00:08:59.87\00:09:03.30 and I've got to take a closer look at that. 00:09:03.34\00:09:05.31 I've never really seen that verse that way, 00:09:05.34\00:09:07.74 and you may be right. 00:09:07.78\00:09:09.44 I just--I'm going to have to investigate the last half 00:09:09.48\00:09:10.91 of that. 00:09:10.95\00:09:12.25 Thank you, Glenn, and appreciate your insights. 00:09:12.28\00:09:13.98 Alden: All right, we have another caller. 00:09:14.02\00:09:15.98 Tydus is calling from Virginia and he's got a question 00:09:16.02\00:09:18.45 regarding the covenant. 00:09:18.49\00:09:20.02 Tydus, welcome to the program. 00:09:20.06\00:09:22.29 Tydus: Hey, good evening. 00:09:22.32\00:09:24.06 Doug: Evening. 00:09:24.09\00:09:25.59 Tydus: I was wondering how to address the view on Mary 00:09:25.63\00:09:28.90 as an ark of the covenant type. 00:09:28.93\00:09:31.90 Doug: You mean, like, Mary the mother of Jesus. 00:09:31.93\00:09:34.57 Tydus: Yes. 00:09:34.60\00:09:35.94 Doug: And you're wondering, is she somehow synonymous or-- 00:09:35.97\00:09:39.61 with the ark of the covenant? 00:09:39.64\00:09:41.51 Tydus: No, I'm wondering how to explain to somebody 00:09:41.54\00:09:44.78 how she's--how you don't worship her. 00:09:44.81\00:09:50.79 Doug: Yeah, well, I've heard some of my Catholic friends have 00:09:50.82\00:09:53.72 said in the same way that the ark of the covenant held the 00:09:53.76\00:09:57.66 Word, Mary is the mother of Jesus held the living Word, 00:09:57.69\00:10:01.76 which is Christ. 00:10:01.80\00:10:03.10 So, is that what you're talking about? 00:10:03.13\00:10:04.83 That analogy? 00:10:04.87\00:10:06.17 Yeah, well, that's a beautiful analogy. 00:10:06.20\00:10:10.27 I don't think that that would support 00:10:10.31\00:10:12.27 deifying Mary in any way. 00:10:12.31\00:10:15.98 And, you know, she's not the golden box. 00:10:16.01\00:10:18.68 So I don't buy that analogy, though it might sound, you know, 00:10:18.71\00:10:23.65 it might sound beautiful and attractive. 00:10:23.69\00:10:25.69 But I don't think that Mary is divine. 00:10:25.72\00:10:30.43 I think Mary was a godly woman. 00:10:30.46\00:10:32.69 She was a saint in the same sense that other faithful people 00:10:32.73\00:10:35.63 can be saints, but that--she's not to be deified or worshiped. 00:10:35.66\00:10:39.67 And so when, you know, when I hear my Catholic friends share 00:10:39.70\00:10:43.14 analogies like that, it's almost like they're--at the very center 00:10:43.17\00:10:46.84 of the Jewish worship was the ark in the middle 00:10:46.88\00:10:49.78 of the Holy of Holies. 00:10:49.81\00:10:51.51 And so to put Mary in that place would almost put her in 00:10:51.55\00:10:54.45 that place of worship. 00:10:54.48\00:10:55.92 You know, we have a book that's called--it's about Mary 00:10:55.95\00:11:00.29 in the New Testament. 00:11:00.32\00:11:01.66 Mary the mother of God, the--answering the mysteries 00:11:01.69\00:11:03.46 about the mother of Jesus. 00:11:03.49\00:11:05.86 And if you call and ask for our gift book on Mary, you can call 00:11:05.89\00:11:08.56 or pound--text. 00:11:08.60\00:11:09.93 Alden: That's right, the book is called, "The Mystery of Mary," 00:11:09.96\00:11:11.90 and they can call 1-800-835-6747. 00:11:11.93\00:11:16.20 We'll be glad to send you the book. 00:11:16.24\00:11:17.81 "The Mystery of Mary." 00:11:17.84\00:11:19.77 So now we have Malachi. 00:11:19.81\00:11:22.34 Malachi is calling from Connecticut 00:11:22.38\00:11:24.45 and he's got a question about Jesus and Michael. 00:11:24.48\00:11:29.15 Malachi: Good evening. 00:11:29.18\00:11:30.49 Alden: Hi. 00:11:30.52\00:11:32.35 Doug: And your question tonight? 00:11:32.39\00:11:34.92 Malachi: So my question tonight is: Did Jesus become Michael, 00:11:34.96\00:11:38.53 an archangel, to fight Lucifer, according to Revelation 12:9? 00:11:38.56\00:11:43.26 Doug: Well, when you--this is something that people often get 00:11:43.30\00:11:46.60 confused about, is the subject of Michael the Archangel. 00:11:46.63\00:11:50.31 Jesus has many names and before Christ came to earth, in the Old 00:11:50.34\00:11:56.68 Testament every now and then Jesus would enter--He would kind 00:11:56.71\00:12:00.25 of go between the veil and He would come to humanity. 00:12:00.28\00:12:03.65 And the one who spoke to Abraham, when it says Abraham 00:12:03.69\00:12:08.92 spoke to the Lord, that was Jesus. 00:12:08.96\00:12:11.76 When this holy soldier met with Joshua and He said, 00:12:11.79\00:12:16.53 "Take your shoes off," well, obviously, He's God 00:12:16.56\00:12:18.60 because He's being told to worship Him. 00:12:18.63\00:12:21.30 He said, "I've come as captain of God's army." 00:12:21.34\00:12:24.41 So one of the titles that Jesus uses to appear 00:12:24.44\00:12:27.04 in the Old Testament is that of Michael. 00:12:27.08\00:12:28.71 Now, Jesus is not an angel. 00:12:28.74\00:12:30.55 Jesus is the ever living Son of God. 00:12:30.58\00:12:33.15 But when you read, for instance, in the New Testament, it says, 00:12:33.18\00:12:35.88 we just read this tonight, "The Lord Himself will descend 00:12:35.92\00:12:39.02 from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel." 00:12:39.05\00:12:42.89 Christ has the voice of the archangel. 00:12:42.92\00:12:46.19 And then you read where it says in the book of Jude verse 9 when 00:12:46.23\00:12:50.73 Michael came to resurrect Moses and the devil disputed with him 00:12:50.77\00:12:54.50 about the body of Moses. 00:12:54.54\00:12:56.14 Well, who is the one that resurrects? 00:12:56.17\00:12:57.91 Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and life." 00:12:57.94\00:13:00.38 And then you look in Daniel chapter 12, it says just before 00:13:00.41\00:13:03.24 the great time of trouble, Michael stands up. 00:13:03.28\00:13:06.25 Well, it's Christ who ceases his intercession 00:13:06.28\00:13:08.55 and he stands up. 00:13:08.58\00:13:09.88 Judgment is over. 00:13:09.92\00:13:11.59 Then, a great time of trouble comes. 00:13:11.62\00:13:12.92 So when you look at all the pictures of Michael in the 00:13:12.95\00:13:15.32 Bible, you realize that this is just one of the Old Testament 00:13:15.36\00:13:19.09 terms for Christ. 00:13:19.13\00:13:20.43 So when it says "the dragon fought with his angels against 00:13:20.46\00:13:25.03 Michael and his angels," well, the dragon is the leader 00:13:25.07\00:13:27.74 of evil. 00:13:27.77\00:13:29.10 Michael, Christ, is the leader of good. 00:13:29.14\00:13:30.94 The dragon is a symbolic name for Satan. 00:13:30.97\00:13:33.58 Michael is a symbolic name for Christ. 00:13:33.61\00:13:36.31 So we're not saying Jesus is an angel. 00:13:36.34\00:13:38.81 Michael is never called an angel. 00:13:38.85\00:13:40.48 He's called the archangel, which means the greatest messenger. 00:13:40.52\00:13:44.25 And we've got a book on that. 00:13:44.29\00:13:45.59 "Who is Michael the Archangel?" 00:13:45.62\00:13:46.92 We'll send you a free copy. 00:13:46.96\00:13:48.29 Alden: And you can get that if you call 1-800-835-6747. 00:13:48.32\00:13:52.33 We'll be able to get that out for you. 00:13:52.36\00:13:53.70 Those of you who are driving down the road, if you want 00:13:53.73\00:13:56.03 to give us a call or sitting at home, 1-800-463-7297. 00:13:56.06\00:14:02.10 And we'll be able to try and get your call. 00:14:02.14\00:14:04.71 Now, we have Gary. 00:14:04.74\00:14:06.27 Gary from Illinois. 00:14:06.31\00:14:07.61 He's got a question in regards to the beasts of Revelation 13. 00:14:07.64\00:14:10.21 Gary, are you there? 00:14:10.25\00:14:12.28 Gary: Yes, in Revelation 13, two beasts and a dragon come 00:14:12.31\00:14:16.55 into power and they help each other into power. 00:14:16.58\00:14:19.75 Verse 7 says they "make war against the saints and overcome 00:14:19.79\00:14:23.83 them," so my question is: Is this scenario starting to happen 00:14:23.86\00:14:28.06 right now? 00:14:28.10\00:14:29.40 I know the beast as civil and religious power. 00:14:29.43\00:14:32.73 Is this happening right now? 00:14:32.77\00:14:34.90 Doug: All right, Gary, great question. 00:14:34.94\00:14:37.11 And in a word, yes, it is happening now. 00:14:37.14\00:14:41.61 When you study the two beasts of Revelation chapter 13, it says 00:14:41.64\00:14:45.35 one of these beasts, he comes up out of the sea, and then you go 00:14:45.38\00:14:48.55 to verse 11, another second beast comes up out of the land. 00:14:48.58\00:14:51.92 And in a word, very simply, this represents a religious 00:14:51.95\00:14:56.76 political power, the first one being centered with the 00:14:56.79\00:15:01.33 Orthodox Catholicism in Europe, the second one with apostate 00:15:01.36\00:15:05.50 Protestantism in North America. 00:15:05.53\00:15:08.84 And they are going to lead-- they're going to basically join 00:15:08.87\00:15:11.87 hands together, and through the union of these two great 00:15:11.91\00:15:15.44 religious powers there's going to be religious laws made 00:15:15.48\00:15:19.51 that will persecute people that are biblical Christians. 00:15:19.55\00:15:22.48 And so gradually we're seeing that, you know, I don't think 00:15:22.52\00:15:25.89 too many people would disagree that Pope Francis is becoming 00:15:25.92\00:15:29.56 more and more political, talking about social issues 00:15:29.59\00:15:32.46 as opposed to biblical issues and salvation. 00:15:32.49\00:15:34.93 And churches in North America are also getting political. 00:15:34.93\00:15:38.63 And where, you know, you just-- now, I do believe in, you know, 00:15:38.67\00:15:42.64 having freedom to worship and protecting that, 00:15:42.67\00:15:46.91 and I'm all for that, but you don't want the church to get 00:15:46.94\00:15:50.01 to the place where it legislates how to worship. 00:15:50.05\00:15:52.25 I think it was Roger Williams, one reason America I think 00:15:52.28\00:15:56.05 became a great country and everyone came over here is 00:15:56.08\00:15:58.75 because Roger Williams realized, on the Ten Commandments 00:15:58.79\00:16:01.62 you need to separate. 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.32 While all ten should be taught, you need to separate that 00:16:03.36\00:16:07.40 the government has no business in forcing the first four. 00:16:07.40\00:16:10.13 The first four commandments say what is God, who is God, rather, 00:16:10.17\00:16:14.04 what is His name, and you know, how to worship Him, talking 00:16:14.07\00:16:18.27 about whether or not idolatry, when to worship Him. 00:16:18.31\00:16:21.01 Government should have nothing to do with that. 00:16:21.04\00:16:22.71 But the last six commandments, a government must uphold the 00:16:22.74\00:16:26.38 sanctity of marriage, the rights of property, parental leadership 00:16:26.41\00:16:30.35 over the children, life and so forth. 00:16:30.39\00:16:32.95 But there's going to be an amalgamation of those two powers 00:16:32.99\00:16:37.23 and they're going to persecute God's people. 00:16:37.26\00:16:39.93 I could go on and on, but we got a study guide. 00:16:39.96\00:16:42.43 Talks about, "Who is the Antichrist?" 00:16:42.46\00:16:44.83 And we'll send you a free copy of that, Gary, and I think 00:16:44.87\00:16:47.27 that'll answer those questions. 00:16:47.30\00:16:48.60 Alden: I was thinking of the one, "The USA 00:16:48.64\00:16:50.74 in Bible Prophecy." 00:16:50.77\00:16:52.47 Doug: We can do both. 00:16:52.51\00:16:53.84 Alden: Both of those are good. 00:16:53.88\00:16:55.18 And you can get that 1-800-835-6747. 00:16:55.21\00:16:57.45 Thanks, Gary. 00:16:57.48\00:16:58.81 We now have Michaela in Connecticut. 00:16:58.85\00:17:00.58 She has a question in regards to the status of humans. 00:17:00.62\00:17:04.25 Are you there, Michaela? 00:17:04.29\00:17:06.99 Michaela: Yes, hi. Good evening, pastors. 00:17:07.02\00:17:09.46 My question tonight is: According to Psalms 8:5 and 6, 00:17:09.49\00:17:13.90 were we created a little lower than God or angels-- 00:17:13.93\00:17:16.77 or His angels? 00:17:16.80\00:17:18.57 Doug: Well, we're definitely created lower because 00:17:18.60\00:17:20.10 we are not God. 00:17:20.14\00:17:21.77 And then Hebrews says, and Hebrews is quoting from Psalm 8, 00:17:21.80\00:17:25.87 that man has been made a little lower than the angels. 00:17:25.91\00:17:28.54 Now, man was made in the image of God. 00:17:28.58\00:17:31.28 And so, man is, man meaning humans, are the crowning act 00:17:31.31\00:17:36.89 of God's creation on earth. 00:17:36.92\00:17:38.79 And originally, the dominion of our planet was given 00:17:38.82\00:17:42.16 to humanity, but we basically disobeyed God, handed it over, 00:17:42.19\00:17:46.36 we gave the keys to the devil, so to speak. 00:17:46.39\00:17:48.70 Jesus speaks of the devil as the prince of this world. 00:17:48.73\00:17:51.93 But--and we're also made a little lower than the angels 00:17:51.97\00:17:54.54 when it comes to power. 00:17:54.57\00:17:56.07 And you know, angels are spiritual beings and they're 00:17:56.10\00:17:59.91 the ministering spirits of God. 00:17:59.94\00:18:01.81 So, yeah, there is a distinction. 00:18:01.84\00:18:03.41 There's an order there. 00:18:03.45\00:18:04.91 But angels are created, humans, with the exception of Adam 00:18:04.95\00:18:08.38 and Eve, were born. 00:18:08.42\00:18:10.29 So there's a difference there. 00:18:10.32\00:18:11.89 Alden: But some actually think that they're maybe equal to God. 00:18:11.92\00:18:15.39 Doug: Yeah, well, there's no doubt there are people and 00:18:15.42\00:18:17.26 religions that say that you are, can be, equal with God. 00:18:17.29\00:18:20.80 And that's, of course, wrong. 00:18:20.83\00:18:23.03 Alden: Right. 00:18:23.06\00:18:24.40 All right, thank you, Michaela. 00:18:24.43\00:18:25.73 We have Lynn in Alabama, and Lynn is--got a question in 00:18:25.77\00:18:29.04 regards to women being ordained. 00:18:29.07\00:18:33.01 Lynn: Yes, I would like to know if it's biblical for a woman 00:18:33.04\00:18:37.31 to be a ordained pastor. 00:18:37.35\00:18:39.05 Doug: Okay, great question. 00:18:39.08\00:18:40.42 Of course, it's a controversial question, but we want 00:18:40.45\00:18:42.85 to give you the Bible answer. 00:18:42.88\00:18:44.52 So if you're upset, take it up with God. 00:18:44.55\00:18:46.55 In the Bible, God makes a distinction between the roles 00:18:46.59\00:18:49.79 of men and women. 00:18:49.82\00:18:51.13 And I think for, you know, probably thousands of years, 00:18:51.16\00:18:53.53 most people thought that was what you would call 00:18:53.56\00:18:55.26 a self-evident truth, that women are a whole lot better at 00:18:55.30\00:18:59.00 nurturing children than men are and their bodies have 00:18:59.03\00:19:02.80 three biological functions that men don't even possess. 00:19:02.84\00:19:06.04 And men are better at some things. 00:19:06.07\00:19:07.64 I mean, you know, when you try and get girls to compete in 00:19:07.68\00:19:10.78 men's sports, it doesn't go well, and it's not fair for men 00:19:10.81\00:19:13.55 to compete in women's sports, in some areas anyway. 00:19:13.58\00:19:16.82 So there's a distinction. 00:19:16.85\00:19:19.12 God designed originally that He made Adam first, and man is 00:19:19.15\00:19:23.22 to be the servant leader in the family. 00:19:23.26\00:19:26.56 And you know, we are to love our wives as Christ loves 00:19:26.59\00:19:29.46 the church. 00:19:29.50\00:19:30.80 There should be a sacrificial love there. 00:19:30.83\00:19:33.50 And in the same way, though, it does say that men are to be 00:19:33.54\00:19:37.31 the priests in the family. 00:19:37.34\00:19:38.77 So there's no example in the Bible of woman serving 00:19:38.81\00:19:42.54 in the capacity of a priest or offering sacrifice. 00:19:42.58\00:19:45.78 When Moses was told to choose leadership for Israel, it said, 00:19:45.81\00:19:49.68 you know, "Choose men to lead out in tens and fifties, 00:19:49.72\00:19:53.15 hundreds and"--I forget, was it hundreds? 00:19:53.19\00:19:55.86 Or did it go to thousands? 00:19:55.89\00:19:57.69 But he said, "Choose men." 00:19:57.73\00:19:59.33 When the New Testament church was growing, Peter said God had 00:19:59.36\00:20:02.73 inspired him that they should pick out seven men. 00:20:02.76\00:20:05.67 When Jesus chose apostles, He chose 12 men. 00:20:05.70\00:20:09.14 And all the kings that God chose were men. 00:20:09.17\00:20:13.07 Of course, they would be called a queen if they were chosen that 00:20:13.11\00:20:15.58 way, but--so God typically, in the Bible, He says that men 00:20:15.61\00:20:21.55 should be the servant leaders, and only men are called to be 00:20:21.58\00:20:25.59 apostles, pastors, priests in the Bible. 00:20:25.62\00:20:30.06 Now, you do have women that served in the role of prophetess 00:20:30.09\00:20:33.09 in the Bible. 00:20:33.13\00:20:34.40 You've got some women prophetess in the Old Testament and 00:20:34.46\00:20:37.17 in the New Testament. 00:20:37.20\00:20:38.53 But that's different than the roles of a pastor. 00:20:38.57\00:20:40.50 You don't ever see in the Bible a woman performing, you know, 00:20:40.54\00:20:44.54 a baptism or Communion. 00:20:44.57\00:20:47.44 So these were kind of sacred functions that were reserved 00:20:47.48\00:20:51.85 for the men, the apostles, the priests and so forth. 00:20:51.88\00:20:55.08 So I do have a book on that and it's called, 00:20:55.12\00:20:57.15 "Women in Ministry." 00:20:57.19\00:20:58.82 We'll send you a free copy, Lynn, if you'd like that. 00:20:58.85\00:21:01.22 Alden: You know, the struggle that we have with this is that 00:21:01.26\00:21:04.29 men are not stepping up to the plate, doing their role 00:21:04.33\00:21:07.30 right now. 00:21:07.36\00:21:08.66 Doug: So the vacuum is being filled by false 00:21:08.70\00:21:11.17 theology, really. 00:21:11.20\00:21:12.50 Alden: Yeah, and that's what Satan wants altogether. 00:21:12.53\00:21:15.44 So once again, the book is called, "God's Role for Women 00:21:15.47\00:21:18.64 in Ministry," and we'll be glad to send that to you if you 00:21:18.67\00:21:20.81 call 1-800-835-6747. 00:21:20.84\00:21:24.31 And our next caller is Marcus from California and he's got 00:21:24.35\00:21:26.95 a question in regards to the blood atonement. 00:21:26.98\00:21:30.25 You there, Marcus? 00:21:30.29\00:21:31.65 Marcus: Yes, my question, it--and it came to me as I was 00:21:31.69\00:21:35.52 reading the book of Matthew last week. 00:21:35.56\00:21:38.73 Christ, He bore our iniquities and our infirmities, 00:21:38.76\00:21:44.80 our sicknesses. 00:21:44.83\00:21:46.33 Now, the blood of Christ--did his Atonement--did the blood 00:21:46.37\00:21:51.54 of Christ atone for all of the sicknesses and diseases and the 00:21:51.57\00:21:56.21 healings that He did prior to shedding His blood on the cross? 00:21:56.24\00:22:01.42 Was it retroactive, per se? 00:22:01.45\00:22:03.55 Doug: Well, every good and perfect gift comes from God, 00:22:03.59\00:22:06.65 so even the healings before the cross is by the grace 00:22:06.69\00:22:09.72 and the power of God. 00:22:09.76\00:22:12.16 You know, you can read in Psalm 103 where it says that 00:22:12.19\00:22:15.00 "He heals all of our diseases." 00:22:15.03\00:22:17.03 And that's, of course, in the Old Testament. 00:22:17.07\00:22:19.23 So God miraculously heals in the Old Testament. 00:22:19.27\00:22:22.50 Hezekiah had a terminal disease. 00:22:22.54\00:22:24.84 As a matter of fact, Isaiah told him it was terminal. 00:22:24.87\00:22:27.18 And when he prayed, by the grace of God and all the goodness 00:22:27.21\00:22:31.35 that's come to us, Old and New Testament is through the blood 00:22:31.38\00:22:33.62 of Christ, Hezekiah was healed. 00:22:33.65\00:22:36.38 God can do it miraculously, instantly. 00:22:36.42\00:22:38.69 Who was it? 00:22:38.72\00:22:40.02 Miriam had leprosy, God healed her. 00:22:40.06\00:22:42.09 Naaman had leprosy, God healed him. 00:22:42.12\00:22:45.19 And you know, Naaman, he was washing in the Jordan River. 00:22:45.23\00:22:47.83 That's sort of like synonymous with baptism. 00:22:47.86\00:22:50.53 But the water didn't heal him. 00:22:50.57\00:22:52.10 It was the power of God. 00:22:52.13\00:22:53.74 So I don't know. 00:22:53.77\00:22:55.07 Hopefully, Marcus, am I answering your question 00:22:55.10\00:22:57.27 that you're asking? 00:22:57.31\00:22:59.51 Marcus: Well, the question is pretty much Christ died on the 00:22:59.54\00:23:03.08 cross and He embodied sin. 00:23:03.11\00:23:05.45 He embodied--God's wrath was poured out on Him. 00:23:05.48\00:23:09.32 Now, in order to be healed from a sickness and healed 00:23:09.35\00:23:12.55 from a disease, somebody had to pay for that. 00:23:12.59\00:23:15.66 I mean, I'm thinking. 00:23:15.69\00:23:17.73 So when Christ says He bore our infirmities and every disease 00:23:17.76\00:23:21.96 and sickness that we have, He died for that, in order for us 00:23:22.00\00:23:26.40 to be healed, if that makes any sense. 00:23:26.43\00:23:28.64 Doug: It does, and let's just put it another way. 00:23:28.67\00:23:31.11 The people in the Old Testament who are saved are not saved by 00:23:31.14\00:23:34.74 their works. 00:23:34.78\00:23:36.11 They are saved by faith, looking forward to the sacrifice that 00:23:36.14\00:23:39.65 would be made, hasn't been made yet, but they were saved 00:23:39.68\00:23:42.98 by faith, looking forward. 00:23:43.02\00:23:44.49 We're saved by faith, looking back at the sacrifice 00:23:44.52\00:23:47.66 and the blood. 00:23:47.69\00:23:48.99 So everybody saved or healed is all by the grace of God 00:23:49.02\00:23:53.60 and through the sacrifice and Atonement of Christ. 00:23:53.63\00:23:55.83 So, hopefully that makes sense. 00:23:55.86\00:23:58.07 And you know, we do have a book that talks about the the blood 00:23:58.10\00:24:02.90 of Christ. 00:24:02.94\00:24:04.24 We've got, of course, that book that deals with, 00:24:04.27\00:24:05.61 "Does God's Grace Blot Out the Law?" 00:24:05.64\00:24:07.18 And it talks about the Atonement. 00:24:07.21\00:24:08.54 I was trying to think we had another one and-- 00:24:08.58\00:24:11.08 Alden: I don't remember that one. 00:24:11.11\00:24:12.45 Doug: Yeah, anyway. 00:24:12.48\00:24:13.78 "Does God's Grace Blot Out the Law?" 00:24:13.82\00:24:15.15 That'll work. 00:24:15.18\00:24:16.48 Alden: If you just tuned in and you've got some questions 00:24:16.52\00:24:18.12 yourself, you can feel free to call us at 1-800-GOD-SAYS 00:24:18.15\00:24:21.46 or 1-800-463-7297. 00:24:21.49\00:24:25.23 And we've got Ruth calling from California and she's got 00:24:25.26\00:24:28.06 a question about how do you actually say something nice 00:24:28.10\00:24:31.53 to explain to somebody that their loved one's not in heaven? 00:24:31.57\00:24:36.04 You there, Ruth? 00:24:36.07\00:24:37.61 Ruth: Hi, yes. 00:24:37.64\00:24:38.97 Hello, Pastor Bachelor and Pastor Ho. 00:24:39.01\00:24:41.24 Thank you for taking my question. 00:24:41.28\00:24:43.11 So I had a recent loss in the family in May, and a lot 00:24:43.14\00:24:48.42 of people, well-meaning folk, come up to me and say, 00:24:48.45\00:24:51.12 "Oh, you know, she's in heaven and she's watching you," 00:24:51.15\00:24:56.29 and all the niceties. 00:24:56.32\00:24:57.89 And I understand they're well-meaning, but I believe 00:24:57.93\00:25:00.63 what the Bible says about the state of the dead. 00:25:00.66\00:25:02.83 But--then they come back at me and they say, "Oh, she's-- 00:25:02.86\00:25:06.43 was absent in the body but present in the Lord." 00:25:06.47\00:25:08.50 So how do you concisely but truthfully share 00:25:08.54\00:25:11.74 that she isn't there? 00:25:11.77\00:25:13.21 Doug: Well, you know, I try to remind people that 00:25:13.24\00:25:16.61 all the church cemeteries used to say "RIP," which means 00:25:16.64\00:25:20.08 "Rest In Peace," and they were resting. 00:25:20.12\00:25:22.72 Folks used to know that. 00:25:22.75\00:25:24.12 And so when they say "absent from the body, present with 00:25:24.15\00:25:26.42 the Lord," I say, well, that's absolutely true. 00:25:26.45\00:25:28.56 When a believer dies, their next conscious thought 00:25:28.59\00:25:33.09 is the resurrection. 00:25:33.13\00:25:34.73 But that may not happen for 1000 years. 00:25:34.76\00:25:37.50 So for them, you can rejoice and say, "I'm so thankful the next 00:25:37.53\00:25:41.00 thing they'll know is the resurrection in the presence 00:25:41.04\00:25:43.84 of the Lord." 00:25:43.87\00:25:45.17 But the resurrection hasn't happened. 00:25:45.21\00:25:46.78 It's really easy to show that. 00:25:46.81\00:25:48.14 I mean, you just look in John chapter 6, three times he says 00:25:48.18\00:25:51.08 they're resurrected the last day. 00:25:51.11\00:25:52.91 Its future hasn't happened. 00:25:52.95\00:25:54.62 So, yeah. 00:25:54.65\00:25:56.42 And you read in Thessalonians the dead in Christ will rise 00:25:56.45\00:26:00.26 at the Second Coming. 00:26:00.29\00:26:01.66 Sometimes, you know, in passing, when someone's trying to comfort 00:26:01.69\00:26:04.53 you, you don't have time for a Bible study and you can just, 00:26:04.56\00:26:07.66 you know, say, "Oh, well, thank you so much. 00:26:07.73\00:26:09.70 And yeah, we look forward to seeing them in heaven," 00:26:09.73\00:26:11.93 you know. 00:26:11.97\00:26:13.27 So it's--a lot of it is the timing, and how well you know 00:26:13.30\00:26:15.14 the person, and are they ready for, you know, an on the spot 00:26:15.17\00:26:18.11 Bible study? 00:26:18.14\00:26:19.44 But yeah, there's a lot of misconceptions out there in 00:26:19.47\00:26:22.21 the world and all different variations of what happens. 00:26:22.24\00:26:26.05 Some people think you're reincarnated and you come back 00:26:26.08\00:26:28.65 as something else, and others think you go right to heaven 00:26:28.68\00:26:31.42 before a judgment, before a resurrection. 00:26:31.45\00:26:33.49 So a lot of misunderstandings. 00:26:33.52\00:26:35.39 Biblically, it's really clear: people sleep in the grave 00:26:35.42\00:26:39.46 until the resurrection. 00:26:39.49\00:26:41.03 And the Bible says when that trumpet sounds the dead 00:26:41.06\00:26:43.40 in Christ will rise. 00:26:43.43\00:26:44.73 They are not disembodied spirits that are floating around 00:26:44.77\00:26:47.37 in limbo or Abraham's bosom. 00:26:47.40\00:26:49.67 Bible doesn't teach that. 00:26:49.70\00:26:51.34 Their next conscious thought is the resurrection. 00:26:51.37\00:26:53.78 It's like the Bible says in Acts, "King David is dead 00:26:53.81\00:26:56.61 and buried, his tomb is with us to this day." 00:26:56.64\00:26:59.15 He's not ascended in heaven. 00:26:59.18\00:27:01.65 But David died 1000 years before Christ. 00:27:01.68\00:27:03.82 His next conscious thought will be the resurrection. 00:27:03.85\00:27:06.99 And you know, friends, we do have an offer that talks about, 00:27:07.02\00:27:09.96 are the dead really dead? 00:27:09.99\00:27:11.29 When we come back from after a break, we'll tell you how to get 00:27:11.33\00:27:13.16 a free announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:21.67\00:27:23.00 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:23.04\00:27:25.37 Doug: The US government is drowning in debt to the tune 00:27:29.68\00:27:33.28 of $22 trillion. 00:27:33.31\00:27:35.38 But before you wag your finger at the government's spending, 00:27:35.42\00:27:38.15 the Federal Reserve says the average American household 00:27:38.19\00:27:41.69 carries over $137,000 in debt. 00:27:41.72\00:27:45.66 Well, it was never God's plan that we live with the burden 00:27:45.69\00:27:48.13 of debt. 00:27:48.16\00:27:49.46 Proverbs 22:7 warns us: "The rich rules over the poor, 00:27:49.50\00:27:53.40 and the borrower is servant to the lender." 00:27:53.44\00:27:55.74 Living with debt is a stressful burden that actually hurts 00:27:55.77\00:27:58.74 your relationship with God. 00:27:58.77\00:28:00.41 In my new pocketbook, "Deliverance from Debt," 00:28:00.44\00:28:03.38 I outline the Bible principles on how to properly manage 00:28:03.41\00:28:06.75 your money with some practical suggestions, and how you can 00:28:06.78\00:28:09.45 get out and stay out of debt. 00:28:09.48\00:28:11.89 If you or someone you love is drowning Alden: Well, we have Kelly in Washington. 00:31:48.87\00:31:51.17 Kelly's got a question in regards to 1 Kings. 00:31:51.21\00:31:54.51 Welcome to the program, Kelly. 00:31:54.54\00:31:57.15 Kelly: Hi, thanks for taking my call. 00:31:57.18\00:31:59.48 So I'm studying--reading the Bible from cover to cover and 00:31:59.51\00:32:03.69 I'm kind of stuck in 1 Kings 13. 00:32:03.72\00:32:07.16 Thereabouts, verses starting at 18 through about 32, 00:32:07.19\00:32:12.39 it's a long story that I think-- like a novel. 00:32:12.43\00:32:16.67 I'm confused. 00:32:16.70\00:32:18.00 There's an older prophet and then a young prophet. 00:32:18.03\00:32:20.50 Young prophet's been sent by God. 00:32:20.54\00:32:22.20 He wasn't supposed to eat or drink anything and stop 00:32:22.24\00:32:25.04 at anybody's house, but he does stop at the older--and the older 00:32:25.07\00:32:28.61 prophet tricks him, lies to him, says, "Come on over to my"--" 00:32:28.64\00:32:31.61 Oh, you know." 00:32:31.65\00:32:32.98 "Yeah, but I'm a prophet and it's okay." 00:32:33.01\00:32:34.75 Of course, this causes the young prophet's demise, as he's eaten 00:32:34.78\00:32:38.45 by a lion on the way back and returning from his trip. 00:32:38.49\00:32:43.19 But then the older prophet wants to go get his body and give him 00:32:43.22\00:32:47.73 a proper burial. 00:32:47.76\00:32:49.03 It makes no sense to me that somebody who is part of the 00:32:49.06\00:32:52.50 demise and fall of sin of another person wants--what 00:32:52.53\00:32:56.57 is--what's going on here? 00:32:56.60\00:32:58.87 Doug: I know that--it is, you know, the Bible--one reason I 00:32:58.91\00:33:02.18 love the Bible is that it tells us stories that you would think, 00:33:02.21\00:33:06.82 well, that doesn't really make anybody look good, 00:33:06.85\00:33:09.12 but it's history. 00:33:09.15\00:33:10.69 What do they say? 00:33:10.72\00:33:12.02 The truth is more bizarre than fiction. 00:33:12.05\00:33:13.49 And this is a true story. 00:33:13.52\00:33:15.56 Just--I'll quickly review what Kelly was sharing. 00:33:15.59\00:33:18.86 Is that God sent a prophet, we never know what his name is, and 00:33:18.89\00:33:24.07 he is to rebuke Jeroboam the son of Nebat because he had turned 00:33:24.10\00:33:28.10 the Northern Kingdom to idolatry. 00:33:28.14\00:33:31.07 And God's power is obviously with this young prophet. 00:33:31.11\00:33:34.94 The altar is split in two, and the king's hand is paralyzed, 00:33:34.98\00:33:37.91 and then he prays and the king is healed. 00:33:37.95\00:33:40.02 And on his way home, word is spread about this event, 00:33:40.05\00:33:46.19 and an old prophet sends his sons and--or the old prophet, I 00:33:46.22\00:33:49.96 think, accosts the man and says, "Come home and have some bite." 00:33:49.99\00:33:54.13 He says, "No, God's told me I'm not supposed to eat bread 00:33:54.20\00:33:56.16 or drink water in this place. 00:33:56.20\00:33:57.53 There's a curse on it because I've turned to idolatry." 00:33:57.57\00:33:59.63 He said, "Well, but I'm a prophet also and God told me 00:33:59.67\00:34:01.87 you're supposed to come home." 00:34:01.90\00:34:03.20 Well, this man is being tested. 00:34:03.24\00:34:06.47 The old prophet lied to him, and you might think, well, I thought 00:34:06.51\00:34:09.71 prophets always told the truth. 00:34:09.74\00:34:11.21 No, Balaam was a prophet who-- he kind of went bad. 00:34:11.25\00:34:15.92 And so this prophet, he says, thinking that God is with this 00:34:15.95\00:34:18.59 young man, "I want him--I want to spend time with him. 00:34:18.62\00:34:21.06 I want to pick his brain and find out what the Lord's been 00:34:21.09\00:34:23.06 telling him." 00:34:23.09\00:34:24.43 And so he lies and says, "You can come to my house." 00:34:24.46\00:34:26.90 And then in the midst of their eating, the Spirit of the Lord 00:34:26.93\00:34:30.30 comes on the old prophet and says, "Oh, you shouldn't have 00:34:30.33\00:34:31.93 done this." 00:34:31.97\00:34:33.27 He says, "Now a lion's going to eat you when you leave." 00:34:33.30\00:34:35.97 And the man is killed by a lion. 00:34:36.00\00:34:37.51 And the old prophet says, "He was certainly a man of God, 00:34:37.54\00:34:40.78 and what he prophesied is going to come true." 00:34:40.81\00:34:43.04 Now, that--the prophet that died, that's killed by a lion, 00:34:43.08\00:34:45.61 was a true prophet, and I expect to see him in heaven, but he was 00:34:45.65\00:34:50.09 kind of tricked and he disobeyed God's--you know, when you hear 00:34:50.12\00:34:53.29 the Word of the Lord from the Lord, don't take someone else's 00:34:53.32\00:34:55.66 word that something's different because the devil will always 00:34:55.69\00:34:58.89 try to, like, trip you up and twist the Word. 00:34:58.93\00:35:01.90 And his prophecy that Josiah, a king would be born by name, 00:35:01.93\00:35:07.44 this is one of the most amazing prophecies--and to see the full 00:35:07.47\00:35:11.51 fulfillment, Kelly, of what you're reading, you almost have 00:35:11.54\00:35:14.68 to go to the end of Chronicles where it talks about King Josiah 00:35:14.71\00:35:17.51 who fulfills what this young king--young prophet foretold. 00:35:17.55\00:35:22.42 And it actually mentions the graves of the young prophet and 00:35:22.45\00:35:25.85 the old prophet in 2 Chronicles. 00:35:25.89\00:35:28.69 So, it's just an amazing story that spans hundreds of years, 00:35:28.72\00:35:32.43 but it does seem to have a bizarre beginning. 00:35:32.46\00:35:34.83 It's--I probably need to do a whole sermon on that someday. 00:35:34.86\00:35:37.17 It's a very interesting story. 00:35:37.20\00:35:38.97 All right, I don't know if that was a meandering answer or not. 00:35:39.00\00:35:41.64 Alden: Well, we got a few more minutes. 00:35:41.67\00:35:43.00 I mean, we're still in the program. 00:35:43.04\00:35:44.34 So if you're listening and just tuning in, give us a call at 00:35:44.37\00:35:46.94 1-800-463-7297 and we'll be glad to try and take your call here. 00:35:46.98\00:35:53.31 We've got Olga in California, first time she's calling, 00:35:53.35\00:35:56.62 and she's got a question about Revelation. 00:35:56.65\00:35:58.55 Who's the bride? 00:35:58.59\00:36:00.86 Olga: I am here, Pastors. 00:36:00.89\00:36:02.19 Good evening to both of you. 00:36:02.22\00:36:03.83 Pastor Batchelor and Pastor Ho. 00:36:03.86\00:36:08.23 Doug: Yeah, and thanks. 00:36:08.26\00:36:09.60 And your question tonight. 00:36:09.63\00:36:10.87 Olga: Pastor, my question is in regards to the bride, or slash, 00:36:10.90\00:36:14.44 wife of Jesus. 00:36:14.47\00:36:16.10 Well, because I'm looking at Revelations 21, verse 9 and 10, 00:36:16.14\00:36:21.51 and I have some other verses relevant to this issue, and the 00:36:21.54\00:36:25.05 only reason why I'm asking about it is because this gentleman 00:36:25.08\00:36:28.78 that I met at work, I'm not going to disclose the church 00:36:28.82\00:36:32.52 where he's from, but supposedly this is what they use to hook 00:36:32.55\00:36:36.96 people in to bring them to the church. 00:36:36.99\00:36:39.79 And every day he comes to--after every weekend he comes bragging 00:36:39.83\00:36:42.86 about how many people they brought into the church. 00:36:42.90\00:36:45.30 Anyways, enough of that. 00:36:45.33\00:36:47.97 He keeps insisting that Jesus has an actual bride, slash, 00:36:48.00\00:36:53.78 wife in heaven. 00:36:53.81\00:36:55.28 And I told him, I said, "No, the bride--we are the bride. 00:36:55.31\00:36:58.81 The church is the bride of Jesus Christ, which, 00:36:58.85\00:37:01.35 we are the church." 00:37:01.38\00:37:03.05 And he showed me some other verses, you know, that are 00:37:03.08\00:37:06.96 supposed to be relevant to this, and I have them written down, 00:37:06.99\00:37:10.03 but I read those verses and I read--and I also read the book 00:37:10.06\00:37:13.96 you guys--that you all have in the Amazing Facts book-- 00:37:14.00\00:37:20.10 Doug: In our bookstore, our study guides, yeah. 00:37:20.14\00:37:22.97 Olga: Yes, and I didn't find anything to what 00:37:23.00\00:37:26.14 he's telling me. 00:37:26.17\00:37:27.51 And so, it's been bugging me and I was like, I need more verses 00:37:27.54\00:37:30.45 to find out--to prove to him that we are the bride, 00:37:30.48\00:37:35.05 we are the wife. 00:37:35.08\00:37:37.02 Doug: Well, let me give you a couple. 00:37:37.05\00:37:39.12 There's actually dozens of them in the Bible. 00:37:39.15\00:37:42.09 So when it says in Revelation, just for our friends listening, 00:37:42.12\00:37:44.79 Revelation 21 it says, "Now I saw the new heaven 00:37:44.83\00:37:48.13 and the new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth 00:37:48.16\00:37:50.70 were passed away. 00:37:50.73\00:37:52.27 And there was no more sea. 00:37:52.30\00:37:53.60 Then I, John, saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down 00:37:53.64\00:37:56.40 out of heaven from God, as a bride prepared, or adorned, 00:37:56.44\00:38:00.98 for her husband." 00:38:01.01\00:38:02.31 It says "as," so the New Jerusalem is God's people. 00:38:02.34\00:38:06.15 Jesus is not married to any kind of a physical literal bride. 00:38:06.18\00:38:10.59 There's some people that try to, you know, minimize it. 00:38:10.62\00:38:13.89 Let me give you a couple of verses. 00:38:13.92\00:38:15.42 Isaiah 54, verse 5, it says, "For your Maker, your husband, 00:38:15.46\00:38:20.93 the Lord of hosts is His name." 00:38:20.96\00:38:22.30 Now, this is a message to Israel. 00:38:22.33\00:38:24.83 And you can look in 2 Corinthians: 00:38:24.87\00:38:26.74 "For I'm jealous for you with godly jealousy. 00:38:26.77\00:38:28.87 For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I might 00:38:28.90\00:38:32.81 present you as a chaste virgin to Christ." 00:38:32.84\00:38:35.58 That, again, is 2 Corinthians 11:2. 00:38:35.61\00:38:37.58 Paul is talking about the church is being betrothed to Christ. 00:38:37.61\00:38:41.55 Ephesians says, "Husbands, love your wives as Christ 00:38:41.58\00:38:44.62 loved the church." 00:38:44.65\00:38:46.35 And he wants to present a spotless church. 00:38:46.39\00:38:48.89 And there's many, many verses. 00:38:48.92\00:38:50.46 The whole book of Hosea is talking about how the church 00:38:50.49\00:38:53.36 has wandered from God and played the harlot, and He wants 00:38:53.40\00:38:55.90 to bring her back again. 00:38:55.93\00:38:57.60 So, the idea of it being a literal woman or wife or 00:38:57.63\00:39:02.50 something like that, that's not taught anywhere in the Bible. 00:39:02.54\00:39:05.47 That's a distortion. 00:39:05.51\00:39:07.34 Alden: Yeah, and many people will tell you all kinds 00:39:07.38\00:39:09.91 of stuff, especially in these Last Days. 00:39:09.94\00:39:12.41 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, I will tell one quick little 00:39:12.45\00:39:15.12 anecdote here. 00:39:15.15\00:39:16.45 I was preaching in Waco, Texas, a long time ago and I came out 00:39:16.48\00:39:21.19 of the church there and, lo and behold, some Branch Davidians 00:39:21.22\00:39:24.69 met the people at the door. 00:39:24.73\00:39:26.46 And the thing that they wanted to tell us is that 00:39:26.49\00:39:30.17 the Holy Spirit was a woman and that Jesus is married 00:39:30.20\00:39:33.34 to the Holy Spirit. 00:39:33.37\00:39:34.70 So, I thought this was really strange and I don't know if 00:39:34.74\00:39:37.91 what this sister's running into is the same thing, but it sounds 00:39:37.94\00:39:41.68 a little cultish to me. 00:39:41.71\00:39:43.28 Alden: Basically, anything you want to hear nowadays you can 00:39:43.31\00:39:45.58 find whatever you want to find, so. 00:39:45.61\00:39:47.62 All right, well, thank you, Olga. 00:39:47.65\00:39:48.98 We have Connie in Arizona and Connie's got some questions here 00:39:49.02\00:39:52.62 in regards to the Second Coming. 00:39:52.65\00:39:54.56 Are you there, Connie? 00:39:54.59\00:39:56.93 Connie: Yes, I am. 00:39:56.96\00:39:58.29 Thank you very much. 00:39:58.33\00:39:59.63 Good evening to you both. 00:39:59.66\00:40:00.96 Doug: Evening, hello. 00:40:01.00\00:40:02.30 Connie: Yes, hi. 00:40:02.33\00:40:03.67 Okay, my question, both, actually has to do with heaven. 00:40:03.70\00:40:07.94 And this would be, the saints that already have gone to 00:40:07.97\00:40:12.24 heaven, where--like Moses and Abraham and others, what are 00:40:12.27\00:40:16.18 they doing for all these hundreds of years in heaven? 00:40:16.21\00:40:19.71 And the second question is about the new heaven and earth. 00:40:19.75\00:40:23.69 Will everyone in the new heaven and earth be adults? 00:40:23.72\00:40:27.56 Because many babies and many young children will be risen 00:40:27.59\00:40:31.86 with all the saints. 00:40:31.89\00:40:33.33 Will they grow up, or is there anything in the Bible 00:40:33.36\00:40:36.73 about that? 00:40:36.77\00:40:38.07 Thank you. 00:40:38.10\00:40:39.43 Doug: Oh, good. 00:40:39.47\00:40:40.70 If it's okay, I'm going to start with your second question first. 00:40:40.74\00:40:42.74 And if you look for instance in, oh, let me see here, Malachi 00:40:42.77\00:40:46.71 chapter 4, it says that, speaking of the new heaven and 00:40:46.74\00:40:51.85 the new earth, says, "But to you who fear My name, shall the 00:40:51.88\00:40:55.18 Sun of Righteousness arise With healing in His wings; 00:40:55.22\00:40:58.55 And you shall go out And grow up like cows of the stall." 00:40:58.59\00:41:04.63 So there are children in heaven, you can read in--by the way, 00:41:04.66\00:41:08.00 that was Malachi 4, verse 2, and you read in Isaiah 11, 00:41:08.03\00:41:12.63 it talks about that "the children will play on the hole 00:41:12.67\00:41:15.70 of the venomous serpent and they will not be harmed." 00:41:15.74\00:41:18.24 And so there are definitely children in heaven. 00:41:18.27\00:41:21.48 I think it's--is it Zephaniah where it says, "And children 00:41:21.51\00:41:26.01 will play in the streets"? 00:41:26.05\00:41:28.05 So you've got an image that there are some who are 00:41:28.08\00:41:30.95 resurrected as children and they grow up in heaven. 00:41:30.99\00:41:33.99 Now, I think they're going to grow more slowly. 00:41:34.02\00:41:36.29 You look in Genesis and it seems like they didn't even get 00:41:36.32\00:41:38.86 married till they were 100. 00:41:38.89\00:41:40.20 They grew more slowly. 00:41:40.23\00:41:41.66 That's why it says in Isaiah 65, is it, that a child will die 00:41:41.70\00:41:46.77 100 years. 00:41:46.80\00:41:48.10 And that actually means they won't even cease to be a child 00:41:48.14\00:41:49.84 until they're 100. 00:41:49.87\00:41:51.37 So that's the first part. 00:41:51.41\00:41:52.77 The second part, you're asking about what is Abraham and 00:41:52.81\00:41:55.21 all the saints doing during this time. 00:41:55.24\00:41:57.18 Well, most of the people who have died from the time of 00:41:57.21\00:42:00.98 Creation to the present, they are sleeping a dreamless sleep 00:42:01.02\00:42:05.02 in the graves. 00:42:05.05\00:42:06.39 There's no consciousness of time. 00:42:06.42\00:42:07.72 For them, their next conscious thought is the resurrection. 00:42:07.76\00:42:10.33 But they're resting. 00:42:10.36\00:42:11.76 And just like when you've had a hard day's work and you sleep 00:42:11.79\00:42:15.50 and all of a sudden you wake up, it's morning, and you don't know 00:42:15.53\00:42:17.57 where the six hours went, that's what it's going to be for them. 00:42:17.60\00:42:21.00 It says they awake. 00:42:21.04\00:42:23.30 Jesus says, "My friend Lazarus is asleep and I go to wake him." 00:42:23.34\00:42:26.74 And He said Lazarus is dead. 00:42:26.78\00:42:28.64 So Jesus called death a sleep. 00:42:28.68\00:42:31.61 When Lazarus woke up after being dead for four days, he didn't 00:42:31.65\00:42:34.98 make any comment on his experience in death because 00:42:35.02\00:42:38.49 it was an unconscious sleep. 00:42:38.52\00:42:40.49 Anyway--and we could send that lesson that we talked 00:42:40.52\00:42:44.39 about earlier. 00:42:44.43\00:42:45.73 "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:42:45.76\00:42:47.10 And how does a person get that? 00:42:47.13\00:42:48.40 Alden: Well, and I was also thinking there's another one 00:42:48.43\00:42:49.80 called, "Heaven: Is It For Real?" 00:42:49.83\00:42:51.43 Doug: Oh, perfect. 00:42:51.47\00:42:52.77 Alden: That's a good one, too, and you can get that 00:42:52.80\00:42:54.24 if you call 1-800-835-6747. 00:42:54.27\00:42:57.64 And we'll be glad to send that to you if you're in Canada, 00:42:57.67\00:43:00.08 United States, or the US territories. 00:43:00.11\00:43:03.01 And if you're international, sorry, we can't have that, 00:43:03.04\00:43:05.78 but we might have a digital download if you call in 00:43:05.81\00:43:08.28 or write in for us. 00:43:08.32\00:43:10.09 And before I forget, if you have questions and you want to email 00:43:10.12\00:43:14.39 them after our hours, you can email them 00:43:14.42\00:43:16.79 to BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:43:16.83\00:43:20.40 Let's try Brenda in Texas and she's a first time caller 00:43:20.43\00:43:23.83 and she's got a question in regards to Christian's voting. 00:43:23.87\00:43:26.07 Brenda, are you there? 00:43:26.10\00:43:27.40 Brenda: Good evening, Pastor Batchelor and Pastor Ho. 00:43:27.44\00:43:29.47 How are you? 00:43:29.50\00:43:30.81 Doug: Doing great. 00:43:30.84\00:43:32.17 Thanks for calling. 00:43:32.21\00:43:33.51 Brenda: I have a question. 00:43:33.54\00:43:34.88 Should we as Christians vote, or what obligation, if any, 00:43:34.91\00:43:39.41 do we have? 00:43:39.45\00:43:40.98 Doug: Yeah, well, if--and you know, you may be talking 00:43:41.02\00:43:44.29 about different countries, I'm assuming you're talking about 00:43:44.32\00:43:46.09 America, and in the United States we have a government 00:43:46.12\00:43:51.16 that is governed by the people, and that's believers 00:43:51.19\00:43:54.20 and unbelievers. 00:43:54.23\00:43:55.56 If only unbelievers are voting, then, you know, 00:43:55.60\00:43:57.40 woe be the country. 00:43:57.43\00:43:59.10 And so, by all means, the idea of voting comes from the Bible. 00:43:59.13\00:44:05.44 You can even see, you know, in the Bible, sometimes 00:44:05.47\00:44:08.11 they would choose out people from among them. 00:44:08.14\00:44:11.18 And when our Founding Fathers that were mostly Christians, 00:44:11.21\00:44:15.98 they said, you know, "We need a government that is chosen by the 00:44:16.02\00:44:18.05 people," they were hoping that, you know, people, especially 00:44:18.09\00:44:23.06 believers, would get involved in selecting leaders and policies 00:44:23.09\00:44:27.76 that would be just, reasonable, and protect the freedom 00:44:27.76\00:44:33.70 of the proclamation of the gospel. 00:44:33.74\00:44:35.74 So I think Christians should vote. 00:44:35.77\00:44:37.97 I know sometimes you look at what the options are 00:44:38.01\00:44:40.21 and it can be discouraging. 00:44:40.24\00:44:42.04 But, you know, as far as possible, first of all, 00:44:42.08\00:44:44.48 don't do anything that you can't do by faith. 00:44:44.51\00:44:46.75 So if you don't have faith or you feel uncomfortable, 00:44:46.78\00:44:49.68 Paul says, well, don't. 00:44:49.72\00:44:51.22 If it's not of faith, it's sin. 00:44:51.25\00:44:52.55 You know, otherwise, I think you ought to consider what the 00:44:52.59\00:44:55.26 issues are and always vote for the thing that is going to do 00:44:55.29\00:45:00.16 the most to protect and preserve the principles of Christ. 00:45:00.20\00:45:04.03 Alden: You have a pocketbook you just wrote on that, and I just 00:45:04.07\00:45:06.87 finished reading this last week. 00:45:06.90\00:45:08.20 Doug: Actually, I think I wrote it about three or four years 00:45:08.24\00:45:10.27 ago, but it's called, "Should a Christian Vote?" 00:45:10.31\00:45:12.04 Alden: And I just read that, and if you'd like to get that-- 00:45:12.07\00:45:14.48 Doug: Did that make sense? 00:45:14.51\00:45:15.81 You like it? 00:45:15.84\00:45:17.18 Alden: It was good. 00:45:17.21\00:45:18.51 It was very informative because I thought, hey, you know, 00:45:18.55\00:45:19.85 I can't vote being a Canadian, but I want to know 00:45:19.88\00:45:21.32 what's going on with all this. 00:45:21.35\00:45:23.39 And if you'd like to get that, give us a call at 00:45:23.42\00:45:25.35 1-800-835-6747, and we'll be glad to send you that book, 00:45:25.39\00:45:30.56 called, "Should a Christian Vote?" 00:45:30.59\00:45:32.06 We have Virginia in California and she's got a question 00:45:32.09\00:45:35.03 about Mark. 00:45:35.06\00:45:36.67 Are you there? 00:45:36.70\00:45:38.00 Virginia: Yes, Pastors. 00:45:38.03\00:45:39.33 I actually wanted to ask about the question on Mark 3:17 00:45:39.37\00:45:44.41 about--it says, "But woe to those who are pregnant and 00:45:44.44\00:45:51.21 to those who are nurses--nursing babies in those days." 00:45:51.25\00:45:54.88 What does that mean, Pastor? 00:45:54.92\00:45:56.69 Doug: Okay, you're talking about Mark 13, verse 17. 00:45:56.72\00:46:01.02 Virginia: Mark 13. 00:46:01.06\00:46:02.36 Yes, I'm so sorry. 00:46:02.39\00:46:03.73 Mark 13:17. 00:46:03.76\00:46:05.06 Doug: Well, Jesus is describing a time that historians know 00:46:05.09\00:46:07.83 about it when about 40 years after the Crucifixion, 00:46:07.86\00:46:12.53 the Romans came in 70 AD and they besieged Jerusalem. 00:46:12.57\00:46:17.24 And it was a great time of trouble that fell upon the city. 00:46:17.27\00:46:21.61 And it--actually, at one point they even turned to cannibalism. 00:46:21.64\00:46:26.55 And so it was especially hard on women with children to feed. 00:46:26.58\00:46:30.92 And Christ was saying that--see, at the beginning of Mark 13 the 00:46:30.95\00:46:35.69 disciples are saying, "When will the destruction of Jerusalem be? 00:46:35.72\00:46:39.06 What is the sign of Your coming in the end of the world?" 00:46:39.09\00:46:41.40 Because He said there'll be a time when there isn't one stone 00:46:41.43\00:46:43.63 left upon another at the temple. 00:46:43.67\00:46:45.33 So He's talking about the destruction of Jerusalem there. 00:46:45.37\00:46:48.20 So, this was going to be a time of special trial for the people 00:46:48.24\00:46:53.41 that were listening to Him at that time. 00:46:53.44\00:46:55.78 Now, there's also another time of trouble immediately before 00:46:55.81\00:46:58.58 the Second Coming when, again, it's going to be very hard 00:46:58.61\00:47:01.62 for families. 00:47:01.65\00:47:03.99 And that's why Jesus said, "Pray that your flight is not 00:47:04.02\00:47:06.12 in the winter or on the Sabbath Day because there will be great 00:47:06.15\00:47:09.39 tribulation, great distress of nations, men's hearts failing 00:47:09.42\00:47:12.43 for fear." 00:47:12.46\00:47:13.70 And Christ talks about a time of trouble such as there never 00:47:13.73\00:47:16.60 has been, or ever will be, immediately prior 00:47:16.63\00:47:19.60 to the Second Coming. 00:47:19.63\00:47:20.97 So, yeah, He's just saying, when you see that time coming-- 00:47:21.00\00:47:25.24 but I think this verse in particular--in Mark He's talking 00:47:25.27\00:47:27.54 more to the people that would be living before the destruction 00:47:27.58\00:47:31.48 of Jerusalem. 00:47:31.51\00:47:32.81 Alden: All right, thank you so much. 00:47:32.85\00:47:34.28 We've got Ethan in Texas and he's got a really good question 00:47:34.32\00:47:37.99 in regards to the Sabbath. 00:47:38.02\00:47:39.49 Ethan, are you there? 00:47:39.52\00:47:41.82 Ethan: Hi, what's going on? 00:47:41.86\00:47:43.19 Alden: Hi. 00:47:43.22\00:47:45.76 Ethan: Yeah, so my question was, I'm one of--I am a small 00:47:45.79\00:47:48.86 business owner. 00:47:48.90\00:47:50.20 I own a company. 00:47:50.23\00:47:51.57 I've been working on my company for a few years before I really 00:47:51.60\00:47:53.80 discovered what the Sabbath was and what my obligations are. 00:47:53.84\00:47:58.31 My main issue is, my company is a--it's a weekend company. 00:47:58.34\00:48:03.04 So, all of our business goes on, like, Friday to Sunday, and I've 00:48:03.08\00:48:08.22 been working on it for a few years to bring it to fruition. 00:48:08.25\00:48:10.32 And just as it's about to, you know, become profitable, 00:48:10.35\00:48:13.12 and I'm you know, I'm doing this to take care of my family, 00:48:13.15\00:48:15.19 is right when I discovered my obligations. 00:48:15.22\00:48:17.76 So I'm trying to wonder how should I handle it. 00:48:17.79\00:48:22.66 And then, also, where do my responsibilities end? 00:48:22.70\00:48:24.93 Because, I'm not the only one in the company, you know, 00:48:24.97\00:48:26.43 there are others working in it. 00:48:26.47\00:48:28.07 Doug: Yeah, that's a great question. 00:48:28.10\00:48:30.24 Well, let me give you a couple of things to think about. 00:48:30.27\00:48:32.74 In the Sabbath command it mentions the phrase 00:48:32.77\00:48:35.81 "within your gates." 00:48:35.84\00:48:37.18 Now, that phrase "within your gates" means within your realm 00:48:37.21\00:48:40.48 of authority. 00:48:40.52\00:48:41.85 Let's see, let me give you an example. 00:48:41.88\00:48:43.79 Let's suppose that I own a business and it's, you know, 00:48:43.82\00:48:47.69 doing something on Sabbath, and I own it with two other guys. 00:48:47.72\00:48:51.46 And--or you, maybe, you own stock in a company where you own 00:48:51.49\00:48:54.36 1/1000 of the business, but you don't own controlling interest. 00:48:54.36\00:48:58.60 I can't be responsible for, you know, if I own stock 00:48:58.63\00:49:02.50 in Trader Joe's, I don't even know 00:49:02.54\00:49:03.87 if they have stock, if I own stock in Trader Joe's 00:49:03.91\00:49:07.21 and I learn the Sabbath truth and I say, "Look, you guys 00:49:07.24\00:49:09.18 have to all close down on Saturday," 00:49:09.21\00:49:10.75 well, I can't really ask them to do that. 00:49:10.78\00:49:12.48 I don't own controlling interests. 00:49:12.51\00:49:14.45 You see what I'm saying? 00:49:14.48\00:49:15.78 But if I have controlling interest in a company and 00:49:15.82\00:49:18.15 I learned the Sabbath truth, then I'm going to have to sell 00:49:18.19\00:49:21.92 my company to someone feels differently, or I'm going 00:49:21.96\00:49:24.33 to have to close it. 00:49:24.36\00:49:25.59 And--but I can't knowingly say, "Well, I have the power to make 00:49:25.63\00:49:30.33 a decision or make a change, but I'm not going to make the change 00:49:30.37\00:49:32.67 because I might be tested. 00:49:32.70\00:49:35.34 It might be difficult, and doesn't God want me to feed 00:49:35.37\00:49:37.71 my family?" 00:49:37.74\00:49:39.04 You know, when it comes to obeying the commandment, 00:49:39.07\00:49:41.88 you just remember what Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did. 00:49:41.91\00:49:46.21 The king said, "When I tell you, you bow down, worship my idol, 00:49:46.25\00:49:50.85 when you hear the music." 00:49:50.89\00:49:52.12 Well, they were going to lose their jobs if they didn't obey 00:49:52.15\00:49:55.06 the king and they were going to lose their lives. 00:49:55.09\00:49:57.16 So they could have argued and said, "Well, you know, 00:49:57.19\00:49:59.06 it's going to be hard on our families if we don't bow down." 00:49:59.09\00:50:01.73 But they said, "Look, it's God's command, and even if we die, 00:50:01.76\00:50:04.30 we're not going to disobey." 00:50:04.33\00:50:06.27 That's real courage, that's real faith, and God blessed them. 00:50:06.30\00:50:10.21 And so, God sometimes does His biggest miracles when we are 00:50:10.24\00:50:13.81 facing the biggest test. 00:50:13.84\00:50:15.64 What or how you're to deal with that, Ethan, I don't know. 00:50:15.68\00:50:19.65 We'll be praying for you that God gives you both wisdom 00:50:19.68\00:50:22.05 and courage, but you'll never be sorry if you stand up 00:50:22.08\00:50:25.39 for your convictions. 00:50:25.42\00:50:26.76 Now, if you only own, like, 1/3 of the company, 00:50:26.79\00:50:28.76 but you may eventually want to sell out your third, 00:50:28.79\00:50:30.73 but you can't really tell them what to do. 00:50:30.76\00:50:33.63 Hopefully, that makes sense. 00:50:33.66\00:50:35.00 Alden: Sabbath questions always a very--struggle. 00:50:35.03\00:50:38.33 I went through that, too, when I worked in the business world. 00:50:38.37\00:50:41.37 And when I stood up for it, God blessed immensely. 00:50:41.40\00:50:45.84 And so we--that's part of our testing that we go through, 00:50:45.87\00:50:49.08 each and every one of us. 00:50:49.11\00:50:50.95 Tiwana, she's in Virginia and she's got a question about 00:50:50.98\00:50:54.78 Communion and the sick people. 00:50:54.82\00:50:56.75 Tiwana, are you there? 00:50:56.79\00:50:59.02 Tiwana: Yes, I am. 00:50:59.05\00:51:00.42 Can you hear me? 00:51:00.46\00:51:01.79 Alden: Sure can, yeah. 00:51:01.82\00:51:03.12 Go ahead with your question. 00:51:03.16\00:51:04.46 Tiwana: Awesome. 00:51:04.49\00:51:05.79 First of all, and I know you strapped on time, but I have 00:51:05.83\00:51:07.50 to say this: Pastor Doug, and I don't know the other pastor's 00:51:07.56\00:51:10.63 name, you don't know how you changed my life. 00:51:10.67\00:51:13.07 It was 3 o'clock in the morning, and I thank God for you every 00:51:13.10\00:51:17.81 single day and Amazing Facts because the truth with the Bible 00:51:17.84\00:51:23.24 is amazing. 00:51:23.28\00:51:24.88 And I tell everybody I'm a member of Granite Bay, but I'm 00:51:24.91\00:51:27.65 not yet because I have to finish the Bible study courses. 00:51:27.68\00:51:30.39 But I just wanted you to know that, that I tell everybody. 00:51:30.42\00:51:34.62 It's all--it was only because the God sent you in my life, and 00:51:34.66\00:51:38.89 I thank God for you every single day, and I can't wait to meet 00:51:38.93\00:51:41.46 you in person, your wife, and everyone at Granite Bay because 00:51:41.50\00:51:44.90 I am going to become a member. 00:51:44.93\00:51:46.30 So, you're stuck with me. 00:51:46.33\00:51:47.74 But my question is about taking Communion. 00:51:47.77\00:51:55.64 My family, not Seventh-day Adventist, I'm actually the only 00:51:55.68\00:51:58.95 one, and you can imagine what I'm going through with that. 00:51:58.98\00:52:03.05 Every time someone gets sick, whether it's on their death bed 00:52:03.08\00:52:06.49 or they got a common cold, they say, "Take the Holy Communion," 00:52:06.52\00:52:09.49 because the Holy Communion, Christ died 00:52:09.52\00:52:12.33 for our transgressions. 00:52:12.36\00:52:14.73 And I know Isaiah 53:5, I just pulled it up really quickly, 00:52:14.73\00:52:19.53 and I know James 5:14, verses 14 through 16. 00:52:19.57\00:52:24.21 But I keep telling her that He died for our spiritual healing. 00:52:24.24\00:52:30.95 And--because what's happening, and I don't know how to ask the 00:52:30.98\00:52:34.35 question, but what's happening is, they get sick, they start 00:52:34.38\00:52:38.02 just taking the Holy Communion, and then they feel sick. 00:52:38.05\00:52:42.56 Doug: So they're almost feeling like the purpose of Communion 00:52:42.59\00:52:45.59 is that there's some kind of magical properties in it 00:52:45.63\00:52:47.66 that's supposed to heal them. 00:52:47.66\00:52:49.80 Well, let me tell you, there is a place where Paul, and maybe 00:52:49.83\00:52:54.87 Pastor Ho can look that up, but there is a place where Paul 00:52:54.90\00:52:57.57 talks about that some, this is in 2 Corinthians, he says, 00:52:57.61\00:53:02.24 "Some are taking it unworthily and that's why some are sick 00:53:02.28\00:53:04.65 among you." 00:53:04.68\00:53:05.98 Paul doesn't say that taking Communion heals you. 00:53:06.01\00:53:09.12 He does say that some people were taking Communion in 00:53:09.15\00:53:11.42 the wrong spirit and they were actually physically sick 00:53:11.45\00:53:13.59 because they were abusing it. 00:53:13.62\00:53:15.46 So there's a difference there. 00:53:15.49\00:53:17.13 Nowhere does Jesus intimate that taking Communion is going 00:53:17.16\00:53:20.93 to heal you. 00:53:20.96\00:53:22.23 In fact, after Jesus took Communion, He was crucified. 00:53:22.26\00:53:24.60 So, it's not magical properties of physical healing. 00:53:24.63\00:53:28.00 Now, there may be some people who've experienced that 00:53:28.04\00:53:30.67 by faith, and I don't want to deny that. 00:53:30.71\00:53:33.24 There's power in renewing it. 00:53:33.27\00:53:34.81 But really, Communion is about accepting the sacrifice 00:53:34.84\00:53:37.85 of Christ and His forgiveness, and it's renewing that covenant 00:53:37.88\00:53:42.35 of believing in His blood. 00:53:42.38\00:53:44.69 Alden: Yeah, we found--it's in 1 Corinthians chapter 11 00:53:44.72\00:53:48.66 and it says: "Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks 00:53:48.69\00:53:51.63 this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty 00:53:51.66\00:53:55.13 of the body and blood of the Lord." 00:53:55.16\00:53:56.80 And in verse 29 it says, again, the same thing, 00:53:56.83\00:53:59.77 the very same words. 00:53:59.80\00:54:01.44 So, it's something we have to be--it's a very sacred thing, 00:54:01.47\00:54:04.57 so we have to be very careful with that. 00:54:04.61\00:54:06.24 That we don't abuse it. 00:54:06.27\00:54:07.81 It's not like some magic wand. 00:54:07.84\00:54:09.81 Doug: And you--when people wonder how often do you do 00:54:09.84\00:54:11.88 Communion, there's only really two time scales in the Bible. 00:54:11.91\00:54:16.79 Some things were annual feasts, some things were weekly. 00:54:16.82\00:54:21.82 You know, there's probably nothing wrong with the churches 00:54:21.86\00:54:23.86 that celebrate Communion, you know, some do it monthly. 00:54:23.89\00:54:26.73 I've been to some churches, every week they have Communion. 00:54:26.76\00:54:28.83 I think that's too much. 00:54:28.86\00:54:30.27 But some churches do it-- Methodists do it quarterly. 00:54:30.30\00:54:34.40 I think our church adopted it from the Methodists. 00:54:34.44\00:54:36.71 But the idea of doing it every time you get sick, I don't know 00:54:36.74\00:54:40.31 if that's the reason for it. 00:54:40.34\00:54:42.81 So, hopefully that helps a little bit. 00:54:42.84\00:54:45.25 You know, Pastor Ho, I'm thinking that we're--looks like 00:54:45.28\00:54:48.12 we're narrowing down where if we take another question, 00:54:48.15\00:54:51.05 it's going to insult somebody. 00:54:51.09\00:54:52.79 If we did not get to your question tonight, 00:54:52.82\00:54:55.22 give us another chance. 00:54:55.26\00:54:56.93 Now, for those listening, we're signing off with our satellite 00:54:56.96\00:54:58.89 listeners, but stay by, those of you on the land base stations, 00:54:58.93\00:55:02.03 because we're going to come back for rapid-fire Bible questions 00:55:02.06\00:55:04.87 in about 45 seconds. 00:55:04.90\00:55:06.90 male announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:10.31\00:55:12.91 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:12.94\00:55:16.48 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:16.51\00:55:20.78 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:20.82\00:55:24.99 Alden: Well, welcome back. 00:55:26.49\00:55:27.79 We've got a question here. 00:55:27.82\00:55:29.16 Roger's asking in these rapid-fire questions, 00:55:29.19\00:55:31.46 "Pastor Batchelor"--said, "The book of Jude quotes 00:55:31.49\00:55:36.13 from the book of Enoch, but Enoch is not scripture. 00:55:36.16\00:55:38.57 Why does Jude quote from what is not scripture 00:55:38.60\00:55:40.47 and put it in scripture?" 00:55:40.50\00:55:42.94 Doug: Yeah, great question. 00:55:42.97\00:55:44.81 In the book of Jude, which is an inspired book of the Bible, 00:55:44.84\00:55:48.71 he quotes from a passage from the book of Enoch. 00:55:48.74\00:55:50.65 The book of Enoch was not written by Enoch. 00:55:50.68\00:55:52.75 Of course, Enoch lived before the Flood, so that would have 00:55:52.78\00:55:54.88 meant that Enoch gave it to Noah, who gave it 00:55:54.92\00:55:56.95 to who knows who, and it just kept getting passed down. 00:55:56.99\00:55:59.62 The book of Enoch was written during the Babylonian Captivity. 00:55:59.65\00:56:02.52 It doesn't appear anywhere in Hebrew literature before that, 00:56:02.56\00:56:05.86 and it was a devout Jew who wrote out some passages. 00:56:05.89\00:56:10.63 Well, Jude recognized that there were some things that he wrote 00:56:10.67\00:56:14.64 that were prophetic, that were true, and so he took that 00:56:14.67\00:56:18.07 and--it's true of many things that while the whole book may 00:56:18.11\00:56:22.08 not be inspired, there could be some inspired statements. 00:56:22.11\00:56:24.88 You know, how many people have quoted Ben Franklin where 00:56:24.91\00:56:27.12 he said that--what is it? 00:56:27.15\00:56:29.15 "Waste not, want not," and "Early to bed, early to rise 00:56:29.18\00:56:32.02 makes you healthy, wealthy, and wise." 00:56:32.05\00:56:33.36 There's a lot of proverbs of Ben Franklin that were really 00:56:33.39\00:56:35.46 inspired, but he's not a prophet. 00:56:35.49\00:56:37.53 So you'd be surprised how many people quote Ben Franklin. 00:56:37.56\00:56:41.26 I think it's in the Bible somewhere. 00:56:41.30\00:56:43.03 But--so, even Paul does it. 00:56:43.06\00:56:44.90 Paul quotes from a Greek poet and he says what the poet said 00:56:44.93\00:56:48.57 in this one passage is true. 00:56:48.60\00:56:51.31 So Bible prophets might take truth that they read somewhere 00:56:51.34\00:56:54.98 else and quote it. 00:56:55.01\00:56:56.88 So, yeah, hopefully that makes sense. 00:56:56.91\00:56:58.81 But the book of Enoch is just part of Hebrew literature. 00:56:58.85\00:57:01.58 There's that one passage quoted by Jude that is, 00:57:01.62\00:57:04.92 therefore, inspired. 00:57:04.95\00:57:06.25 Alden: All right, one more. 00:57:06.29\00:57:07.59 Chris asks, "When Jesus cleanses the sanctuary for the final 00:57:07.62\00:57:10.43 time, how are the saint--sins transferred to the devil? 00:57:10.46\00:57:13.33 The earthly sanctuary used a scapegoat. 00:57:13.36\00:57:15.26 What will this process look like for the heavenly sanctuary?" 00:57:15.30\00:57:18.87 Doug: Yeah, the--it's talking about the final service 00:57:18.90\00:57:22.07 in Leviticus 16 about the Day of Atonement 00:57:22.10\00:57:24.77 when they had two goats. 00:57:24.81\00:57:26.81 One was the Lord's goat, one was called the scapegoat. 00:57:26.84\00:57:29.11 The Lord's goat is sacrificed and the blood cleanses-- 00:57:29.14\00:57:31.88 the scapegoat is not sacrificed. 00:57:31.91\00:57:33.62 It bears the ultimate guilt of the people away 00:57:33.65\00:57:37.45 and was carried into a foreign land and forever separated. 00:57:37.49\00:57:40.36 That is believed to be the devil. 00:57:40.39\00:57:42.66 And in the very end, the ultimate one who is responsible 00:57:42.69\00:57:46.46 for the origin of sin is Satan, he is going to be cast into 00:57:46.49\00:57:50.07 the lake of fire and he's going to receive the punishment 00:57:50.10\00:57:54.20 for his deeds at that time. 00:57:54.24\00:57:55.74 And then, ultimately, it says in Ezekiel, "Never will you be 00:57:55.77\00:57:59.61 any more." 00:57:59.64\00:58:01.04 He'll be forever separated from God's people. 00:58:01.08\00:58:02.54 No more sinner sinners. 00:58:02.58\00:58:03.95 Hey, friends. 00:58:03.98\00:58:05.31 Thank you so much for joining us in "Bible Answers Live." 00:58:05.35\00:58:07.12 Don't forget, all week long you can go to our
