male announcer: It is the best selling book in history. 00:00:02.93\00:00:05.57 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, and its 00:00:05.60\00:00:10.01 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, should 00:00:10.04\00:00:14.01 always be studied carefully. 00:00:14.04\00:00:16.38 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.41\00:00:19.65 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.94\00:00:47.84 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.88\00:00:50.05 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:50.08\00:00:51.41 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.45\00:00:54.28 In 1846, San Francisco was a small sleepy settlement with 00:00:54.32\00:00:58.95 about 200 residents. 00:00:58.99\00:01:00.92 But then the discovery of gold in the northern California Hills 00:01:00.96\00:01:04.76 in 1848 triggered one of the greatest migrations in history. 00:01:04.79\00:01:09.73 By 1852, San Francisco became a booming city of about 36,000, 00:01:09.76\00:01:16.24 filled with makeshift tent houses, hotels, stores, saloons, 00:01:16.27\00:01:21.01 gambling halls, and yes, even some churches. 00:01:21.04\00:01:24.68 By 1875, approximately one quarter of California's entire 00:01:24.71\00:01:29.02 population resided in the city proper. 00:01:29.05\00:01:32.52 Sadly, only about one out of five people that embarked on the 00:01:32.55\00:01:36.36 gold rush died within two years and less than one in 100 found 00:01:36.39\00:01:40.80 enough gold to make the grueling trip worthwhile. 00:01:40.83\00:01:44.30 The Bible says there is actually a city paved with gold that is 00:01:44.33\00:01:48.77 definitely worth the pilgrimage. 00:01:48.80\00:01:51.44 What do you think, Pastor Ross? 00:01:51.47\00:01:53.27 Jëan Ross: You know, it's interesting, whenever you go to 00:01:53.31\00:01:55.08 do a little research on the gold rush, there's so many stories, 00:01:55.11\00:01:58.85 people went through so much trials to get here. 00:01:58.88\00:02:01.12 They brought their families, they came with the wagon loads 00:02:01.15\00:02:03.62 and faced attacks by the American Indians. 00:02:03.65\00:02:07.56 They ran in terrible weather crossing the mountains, and yet 00:02:07.59\00:02:10.83 just that drive for gold just kept them going. 00:02:10.86\00:02:14.23 It is sad, as you mentioned, that the vast majority of the 00:02:14.30\00:02:16.90 people didn't strike Bonanza. 00:02:16.93\00:02:19.60 Really, the ones who made a lot of money were the ones who 00:02:19.63\00:02:22.14 supplied the mining. 00:02:22.17\00:02:23.47 Doug: The merchants. 00:02:23.51\00:02:24.84 Jëan: With tents and gear. 00:02:24.87\00:02:26.17 So there were some that scored. 00:02:26.21\00:02:28.01 Everyone's looking for the gold. 00:02:28.04\00:02:29.91 Doug: Yeah, absolutely. 00:02:29.94\00:02:31.41 You know, I heard one little side story connected with a gold 00:02:31.45\00:02:34.12 rush that the ships that were coming in bringing the 49ers 00:02:34.15\00:02:38.75 that would either come from Australia or go around South 00:02:38.79\00:02:41.82 America and they were coming up, all the sailors jumped ship and 00:02:41.86\00:02:46.33 the captains could not get crews to sail away. 00:02:46.36\00:02:50.37 And you can see some of the very old pictures of the San 00:02:50.40\00:02:53.37 Francisco bay filled with abandoned sailing ships because 00:02:53.40\00:02:57.94 they just couldn't get people to sail away. 00:02:57.97\00:02:59.91 They all wanted to come in. 00:02:59.94\00:03:01.98 And so it's just a remarkable time in history. 00:03:02.01\00:03:04.78 But you know, the Bible tells us that there is gold that we 00:03:04.81\00:03:08.62 should be driving for. 00:03:08.65\00:03:10.29 It's of course the gold of God's love. 00:03:10.32\00:03:13.02 Jesus said, "Buy of me gold refined in the fire." 00:03:13.05\00:03:16.69 But you read in Hebrews 11, verse 8, "By faith Abraham 00:03:16.73\00:03:20.76 obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would 00:03:20.80\00:03:23.90 receive as an inheritance. 00:03:23.93\00:03:25.73 And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 00:03:25.77\00:03:28.47 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, 00:03:28.50\00:03:32.27 dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the 00:03:32.31\00:03:36.08 same promise, for he waited for the city that has foundations 00:03:36.11\00:03:41.15 whose builder and maker is God." 00:03:41.18\00:03:44.39 And then it describes that city, Pastor Ross, in Revelation 21, 00:03:44.42\00:03:47.89 verse 18. 00:03:47.92\00:03:49.22 "The construction of its walls was of Jasper; and the city was 00:03:49.26\00:03:53.60 pure gold, like glass. 00:03:53.63\00:03:56.63 And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned in all 00:03:56.67\00:03:59.93 kinds of precious stones." 00:04:00.04\00:04:02.10 And then it describes these different stones. 00:04:02.14\00:04:04.21 You go to verse 21, "The twelve gates were twelve pearls. 00:04:04.24\00:04:07.81 Each individual gate was one pearl and the street of the city 00:04:07.84\00:04:11.78 was pure gold, like transparent glass." 00:04:11.81\00:04:15.52 And so there is a city of gold that's worth us making a 00:04:15.55\00:04:19.92 pilgrimage to. 00:04:19.95\00:04:21.72 Jëan: And you know, we do have a study guide, actually, a book, 00:04:21.76\00:04:23.76 an amazing facts book that talks about this very real city. 00:04:23.79\00:04:27.50 This new Jerusalem is called "Heaven Is It word of prayer. 00:05:19.41\00:05:20.75 Dear Father, we thank you once again that we're all here, able 00:05:20.78\00:05:22.98 to study your Word and we ask your blessing upon this program. 00:05:23.02\00:05:25.55 Be with those who are listening wherever they might be. 00:05:25.59\00:05:27.79 And as we always ask, Lord, we know the Bible is your book. 00:05:27.82\00:05:30.36 And so we ask the Holy Spirit to guide us so that we can come to 00:05:30.39\00:05:33.43 a clearer and a full understanding of your 00:05:33.46\00:05:35.73 will for our lives. 00:05:35.76\00:05:37.07 And we ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:37.10\00:05:39.67 Doug: Amen. 00:05:39.70\00:05:41.00 Jëan: First caller this evening, we've got Brittany listening 00:05:41.04\00:05:42.47 in California. 00:05:42.50\00:05:43.81 Brittany, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:43.84\00:05:45.41 Brittany: Yeah, my question is, how is a Christian supposed to 00:05:45.44\00:05:50.08 deal with certain political regulations that are completely 00:05:50.11\00:05:54.32 against the Bible presented by the government? 00:05:54.35\00:05:57.35 Doug: Mm, okay, good question. 00:05:57.39\00:05:59.39 Well, it's not the first time in history that's happened. 00:05:59.42\00:06:02.66 You can look in the Bible, of course, when the government told 00:06:02.69\00:06:07.30 the mothers in Egypt to kill their baby boys. 00:06:07.36\00:06:10.37 Well, Jochebed said, I can't do that and she put Moses in 00:06:10.40\00:06:13.80 a basket. 00:06:13.84\00:06:15.14 And then the government, you know, they told Daniel that he 00:06:15.17\00:06:19.04 should not pray to anyone but the king and he had to stand up 00:06:19.07\00:06:22.58 for his faith or, I should say, kneel down for his faith. 00:06:22.61\00:06:25.48 And then in Daniel 3, you got something similar. 00:06:25.51\00:06:29.02 King of Babylon is telling 'em the government laws, to bow down 00:06:29.05\00:06:31.69 and worshiped, and the disciples, many of them died 00:06:31.72\00:06:34.69 because they would not follow the laws of Rome 00:06:34.72\00:06:38.46 that said to worship Caesar. 00:06:38.49\00:06:39.79 Now, we should always obey the laws of the land as long as 00:06:39.83\00:06:43.30 they're not in direct conflict with the laws of God. 00:06:43.33\00:06:46.30 And so as far as possible, Christians should be the very 00:06:46.33\00:06:48.80 best citizens. 00:06:48.84\00:06:50.21 But if there's ever a political law or principle that violates a 00:06:50.24\00:06:54.64 biblical principle, we always stand, you know, with God and 00:06:54.68\00:06:59.45 his Word first. 00:06:59.48\00:07:01.35 So I hope that helps a little, but great question. 00:07:01.38\00:07:04.09 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is James 00:07:04.12\00:07:05.55 listening in Tennessee. 00:07:05.59\00:07:06.89 James, you're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:06.92\00:07:09.62 James: Thank you, Pastor Ross, and thank you, Pastor Doug. 00:07:09.66\00:07:12.33 Y'all have helped me so much with the three angels message 00:07:12.36\00:07:16.83 and it's just been a blessing. 00:07:16.87\00:07:18.60 But yeah, my question today is 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, verse 4 00:07:18.63\00:07:26.64 and starting with verse 10, it says, "And with all of them who 00:07:26.68\00:07:30.18 deceive and for unrighteousness in them they perish and for this 00:07:30.21\00:07:35.18 cause God will send them a strong delusion, so they will 00:07:35.22\00:07:39.75 believe a lie." 00:07:39.79\00:07:41.26 And it's saying God for this cause will send them a 00:07:41.29\00:07:44.59 strong delusion so they'll believe a lie. 00:07:44.63\00:07:47.30 Who is God referring to? 00:07:47.30\00:07:49.63 And if every good gift comes from God and everything is good, 00:07:49.66\00:07:54.10 good, good, why would he send his people a strong delusion so 00:07:54.14\00:07:58.87 they will believe a lie. 00:07:58.91\00:08:01.04 Doug: Yeah, that's a great question. 00:08:01.08\00:08:02.88 And when you read this verse just on the surface, it sounds 00:08:02.91\00:08:07.15 like why, you know, everything is true-- 00:08:07.18\00:08:09.75 God is truth. 00:08:09.78\00:08:11.09 Why would God send a lie? 00:08:11.12\00:08:12.62 It's similar to that place in the Bible where a prophet is 00:08:12.65\00:08:17.29 describing a dream. 00:08:17.33\00:08:18.66 And he said, "And God said, I will be a lying spirit in the 00:08:18.69\00:08:21.13 mouth of his prophets." 00:08:21.16\00:08:22.80 That's Micaiah talking to Ahab and Jehoshaphat. 00:08:22.83\00:08:26.60 And basically what it's saying there is when they reject truth, 00:08:26.63\00:08:29.77 Ahab rejected the truth, then light when rejected, darkness 00:08:29.80\00:08:35.28 comes in. 00:08:35.31\00:08:36.61 And if you read the rest of this verse here, going back to 2 00:08:36.64\00:08:39.21 Thessalonians, it says that "For this reason God will send them 00:08:39.25\00:08:42.82 strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, that they 00:08:42.85\00:08:45.42 might have be condemned who did not believe the truth." 00:08:45.45\00:08:48.92 So what's left if you reject truth? 00:08:48.96\00:08:51.39 The only thing you got left is a lie. 00:08:51.43\00:08:53.53 And so it's basically saying they've rejected the light. 00:08:53.56\00:08:56.06 And so God is allowing them to believe a lie. 00:08:56.10\00:08:59.80 God doesn't want anyone to be lost. 00:08:59.83\00:09:02.40 And there's a verse I think in Hosea chapter 4, Pastor Ross, 00:09:02.44\00:09:05.94 verse 6 where it kind of says the same thing that if we reject 00:09:05.97\00:09:10.08 the knowledge. 00:09:10.11\00:09:11.45 Jëan: Yeah, Hosea chapter 4 verse 6, "My people are 00:09:11.48\00:09:13.01 destroyed for lack of knowledge. 00:09:13.05\00:09:14.85 Because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you 00:09:14.88\00:09:17.42 from being priest for me; because you have forgotten the 00:09:17.45\00:09:19.65 law of your God, I will also forget your children." 00:09:19.69\00:09:22.69 It's talking about the judgment that comes upon Israel. 00:09:22.72\00:09:24.26 Doug: So it's not that they're being punished 'cause they don't 00:09:24.29\00:09:26.73 know, it's because they're rejecting truth. 00:09:26.76\00:09:29.10 They're rejecting light. 00:09:29.13\00:09:30.43 The only alternative is the vacuum is then filled 00:09:30.47\00:09:33.03 with darkness. 00:09:33.07\00:09:34.37 And so God doesn't send it. 00:09:34.40\00:09:35.74 It just comes consequentially. 00:09:35.77\00:09:37.44 Jëan: You might say God allows it because He withdraws truth, 00:09:37.47\00:09:40.31 like you said, it's only error left. 00:09:40.34\00:09:42.41 Thank you, James. Good question. 00:09:42.44\00:09:43.95 Next caller that we have is Allen also listening in 00:09:43.98\00:09:46.48 California. Allen, you on "Bible Answers Live." 00:09:46.51\00:09:48.58 Allen: Good evening. Doug: Evening. 00:09:48.62\00:09:50.39 Allen: Thank you for taking my call. 00:09:50.42\00:09:51.72 I'm calling from Bakersfield, California. 00:09:51.75\00:09:53.99 My question is, it's the first part of Daniel 9:26 says, "And 00:09:54.02\00:09:58.59 after sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off ." 00:09:58.63\00:10:00.80 That's the New King James Version, "But not for Himself." 00:10:00.83\00:10:03.70 So that's pretty self-explanatory. 00:10:03.73\00:10:05.13 Jesus died for us. 00:10:05.17\00:10:07.30 But then every other translation says, "Messiah shall be cut off 00:10:07.34\00:10:11.54 and have nothing." 00:10:11.57\00:10:12.94 But how can those two things mean the same thing? 00:10:12.97\00:10:15.01 Doug: Well, you're talking about two translations and they sound 00:10:15.04\00:10:18.71 different like--by the way, the King James and the New King 00:10:18.75\00:10:20.95 James are very similar. 00:10:20.98\00:10:22.28 It says, "But not for Himself." 00:10:22.32\00:10:24.85 Christ, He did not--He was not cut off for his sin, He was cut 00:10:24.89\00:10:28.72 off for our sin. 00:10:28.76\00:10:30.36 And so I think that the King James, New King James, which you 00:10:30.39\00:10:35.03 know, many scholars except, I think it's more accurate, but 00:10:35.06\00:10:38.90 either way, with either translation, it's basically 00:10:38.93\00:10:41.60 saying that Christ is not cut off for His sin, He's cut off 00:10:41.64\00:10:45.71 for ours. 00:10:45.74\00:10:47.08 Jëan: And you know, I think they there are four ways in which 00:10:47.11\00:10:49.61 that phrase has been translated because of the original language 00:10:49.64\00:10:53.28 there it can go. 00:10:53.31\00:10:54.65 It's very similar. 00:10:54.68\00:10:55.98 The one is the one that you mentioned in the King James 00:10:56.02\00:10:57.92 where it says and-- "but not for Himself," but literally means 00:10:57.95\00:11:01.09 "and nothing to Him." 00:11:01.12\00:11:03.36 And some translate that as "there will be no help for Him" 00:11:03.39\00:11:07.20 or "no help with Him." 00:11:07.23\00:11:08.83 Others translate it as, "And He shall not be," meaning that He 00:11:08.86\00:11:13.20 shall perish, "but not for Himself" is also a meaning 00:11:13.23\00:11:17.64 connected with that phrase. 00:11:17.67\00:11:18.97 So depending upon which translation you go with, there's 00:11:19.01\00:11:23.11 some slight variations there. 00:11:23.14\00:11:25.35 But I think the point is still clear when the Messiah is 00:11:25.38\00:11:27.88 cut off. 00:11:27.92\00:11:29.15 Doug: And even, you know, if the Messiah is cut off and it says, 00:11:29.18\00:11:31.32 "and shall have nothing," 00:11:31.35\00:11:32.82 they took everything from Him, 00:11:32.85\00:11:34.82 so you can't argue with that either. 00:11:34.86\00:11:37.33 But the point that I think is so incredible, it says that He'll 00:11:37.36\00:11:40.73 cause the sacrifice to cease. 00:11:40.76\00:11:42.83 And when Jesus was cut off, the veil was rent in the temple, 00:11:42.86\00:11:46.60 bringing to an end the sacrificial system. 00:11:46.63\00:11:49.14 Jëan: You know, we have a study got called "Right on Time" that 00:11:49.17\00:11:51.54 deals with Daniel chapter 9 and gets into the various time 00:11:51.57\00:11:54.21 prophecies that you have. 00:11:54.24\00:11:55.54 It's very interesting. It's a great study. 00:11:55.58\00:11:57.01 We'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:11:57.05\00:11:59.08 Just call 800-835-6747 and you can ask for the study guide. 00:11:59.11\00:12:04.29 It's called "Right On Time," and we'll be happy to send that 00:12:04.32\00:12:06.76 to you. 00:12:06.79\00:12:08.09 It's 800-835-6747. 00:12:08.12\00:12:10.16 You can also just dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:12:10.19\00:12:13.53 Say "Bible Answers Live" and then you'll be able to download 00:12:13.56\00:12:15.90 it there as well. 00:12:15.93\00:12:17.33 Next caller that we have is Joan in Australia. 00:12:17.37\00:12:20.10 Joan, welcome to the program. 00:12:20.14\00:12:21.80 Joan: Hi, thank you for taking my call. 00:12:21.84\00:12:23.34 How are you? 00:12:23.37\00:12:24.67 Doug: Doing good. Thank you for calling. 00:12:24.71\00:12:27.38 Joan: I hope you can understand my question. 00:12:27.41\00:12:28.74 It's kind of a little bit--but it's I'm just trying to get a 00:12:28.78\00:12:31.08 picture of Job 1, verse 6 when, I understand, when there was the 00:12:31.11\00:12:38.32 sons of God. 00:12:38.35\00:12:39.65 My question is, are they the council or are they the sons of 00:12:39.69\00:12:42.89 God that write the books of life? 00:12:42.92\00:12:45.46 And is it just Old Testament and it doesn't happen anymore where 00:12:45.49\00:12:50.37 Satan had access to go along with them. 00:12:50.40\00:12:54.40 Doug: There's a little bit of mystery around the sons of God 00:12:54.44\00:12:57.34 and who they are. 00:12:57.37\00:12:58.71 I think there are places in the Bible where it speaks of the 00:12:58.74\00:13:00.81 angels as the sons of God. 00:13:00.84\00:13:03.21 It's also talking here in Job, I think it's talking about maybe 00:13:03.24\00:13:06.38 the, you know, this is heavenly meeting, but it's not in heaven, 00:13:06.41\00:13:10.25 a celestial meeting where God is there and Satan comes from 00:13:10.29\00:13:15.46 the earth. 00:13:15.49\00:13:16.83 So it's not on earth. 00:13:16.86\00:13:18.16 The sons of God there are some kind of 00:13:18.19\00:13:21.16 representatives of other worlds. 00:13:21.20\00:13:22.76 Now, the reason we say that is because one of the titles for 00:13:22.80\00:13:25.87 Adam who was the leader of this world, he's called the son 00:13:25.90\00:13:29.87 of God. 00:13:29.90\00:13:31.24 You look in the genealogy of Jesus in the book of Luke 00:13:31.27\00:13:33.98 chapter 3. 00:13:34.01\00:13:35.31 And it says, "And Enosh was the son of Seth, who 00:13:35.34\00:13:37.98 was the son of Adam, who was the son of God. 00:13:38.01\00:13:40.62 Adam was not born, he was created to be the leader of 00:13:40.65\00:13:44.49 this world. 00:13:44.52\00:13:45.82 Now God, you know, no doubt has intelligent beings that are 00:13:45.85\00:13:48.82 leaders of other worlds and describes the 24 elders around 00:13:48.86\00:13:52.66 his throne in Revelation. 00:13:52.69\00:13:54.00 Some have wondered is this who they are. 00:13:54.00\00:13:56.10 1 John chapter 3 says, "Behold, what manner of love the Father 00:13:56.13\00:14:00.74 has bestowed on us, that we should be called sons of God." 00:14:00.77\00:14:04.14 And Isaiah says that we are sons and daughters of God, believers. 00:14:04.17\00:14:08.08 Christ said that the wicked, they are sons of their father, 00:14:08.11\00:14:10.38 the devil. 00:14:10.41\00:14:11.71 So the term sons of God, it floats a little bit in its 00:14:11.75\00:14:14.95 definition in the Bible. 00:14:14.98\00:14:16.62 Jëan: I think in the immediate context in Job, though, it 00:14:16.65\00:14:18.79 appears as though these sons of God would be the 00:14:18.82\00:14:21.79 representatives of other worlds. 00:14:21.82\00:14:23.89 Hebrews speaks about God created the worlds, and he uses plural, 00:14:23.93\00:14:27.30 and it appears that Satan came to this gathering claiming to be 00:14:27.36\00:14:30.57 the representative of the earth. 00:14:30.60\00:14:32.03 And it's interesting that God allowed him, and 00:14:32.07\00:14:34.87 God said, "Where did you come from?" 00:14:34.90\00:14:36.20 He said, "Oh, from walking up and down on the earth" claiming 00:14:36.24\00:14:38.41 that as his kingdom. 00:14:38.44\00:14:40.08 And then God said, "Well, there's someone in your kingdom 00:14:40.11\00:14:41.81 that really belongs in My kingdom." 00:14:41.84\00:14:43.38 And that's where the story of Job is--you read on and tells 00:14:43.41\00:14:46.25 you the story of his experience. 00:14:46.28\00:14:47.78 So I think we can say that these sons of God would be the 00:14:47.82\00:14:50.55 representatives of other worlds and, very possibly, they could 00:14:50.59\00:14:55.02 also be the 24 elders that you read about in the book 00:14:55.06\00:14:57.89 of Revelation. 00:14:57.93\00:14:59.23 And also I believe in the Old Testament. 00:14:59.26\00:15:01.36 It refers to God ruling before his elders gloriously, 00:15:01.40\00:15:05.90 which is the same idea. 00:15:05.93\00:15:07.44 You know, we do have a book, Pastor Doug, it's called "Who 00:15:07.47\00:15:09.54 are the Sons of God?" 00:15:09.57\00:15:10.87 and it deals with the subject and we'll be happy to send this 00:15:10.91\00:15:13.01 to anyone who calls and asks, the number is 800-835-6747. 00:15:13.04\00:15:18.05 That is our free resource phone line. 00:15:18.08\00:15:20.98 As for the book, it's called "Who Are the Sons of God?" 00:15:21.02\00:15:23.25 We'll send it to you. 00:15:23.28\00:15:24.62 You can also just dial #250 on your smartphone, ask for it and 00:15:24.65\00:15:29.22 you'll be able to download it that way as well. 00:15:29.26\00:15:31.86 Thank you, Joan. 00:15:31.89\00:15:33.23 Thanks for calling all the way from Australia. 00:15:33.26\00:15:34.83 We've got Steve in Missouri. 00:15:34.83\00:15:36.36 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:15:36.40\00:15:38.73 Steve: Yeah, Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross. 00:15:38.77\00:15:41.30 I listen to your show pretty regular, and just yesterday, as 00:15:41.34\00:15:44.97 a matter of fact, it was recording. 00:15:45.01\00:15:47.18 But a man called in and said, "When Jesus comes back, how 00:15:47.21\00:15:51.38 could every eye see Him if the earth is round?" 00:15:51.41\00:15:54.52 Well, a lot of times we're just not smart enough to figure out 00:15:54.55\00:16:01.42 what God is capable of doing. 00:16:01.46\00:16:03.43 First of all, the Holy Spirit can be everywhere at once. 00:16:03.46\00:16:06.03 We can't understand that. 00:16:06.06\00:16:08.53 Okay, but I'm gonna say, when Jesus comes back, he's not gonna 00:16:08.56\00:16:14.50 be over there in China and China is gonna call us and say, "Hey, 00:16:14.54\00:16:18.21 the Lord's here. 00:16:18.24\00:16:19.57 He'll be there in a little bit." 00:16:19.61\00:16:21.01 Now I'm gonna go through about four verses and see what you 00:16:21.04\00:16:24.75 think, okay? 00:16:24.78\00:16:26.18 Doug: All right, let's hear it. 00:16:26.21\00:16:27.82 Steve: All right, I'm gonna start out with Revelation 6, 00:16:27.85\00:16:31.12 verse 14, "And the heavens departed as a scroll." 00:16:31.15\00:16:35.59 A scroll rolls out. 00:16:35.62\00:16:37.73 Okay, rolls out like a "scroll when it is rolled together and 00:16:37.76\00:16:41.03 every mountain and island were moved out of their places." 00:16:41.06\00:16:44.57 Now I'm gonna jump over to Revelation 16, verse 20, "And 00:16:44.60\00:16:50.21 every island fled away, and the mountains were not found." 00:16:50.24\00:16:53.61 So things are really happening. 00:16:53.64\00:16:55.04 And now I'm gonna go to Isaiah 40, verse 4, "Every valley shall 00:16:55.08\00:17:00.85 be exalted and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and 00:17:00.88\00:17:04.15 the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough 00:17:04.19\00:17:06.55 places plain." 00:17:06.59\00:17:08.59 Okay, now I'm gonna stay in Isaiah 13:13. 00:17:08.62\00:17:13.19 That's where I'm gonna go now. 00:17:13.23\00:17:15.43 Okay, 13:13. 00:17:15.46\00:17:16.80 "Therefore I will shake the heavens, and earth shall remove 00:17:16.83\00:17:19.37 out of her place, and then the wrath of the Lord's hosts, and 00:17:19.40\00:17:22.30 in the day of his fierce anger." 00:17:22.34\00:17:23.91 So that's definitely when he's coming back is when that's 00:17:23.94\00:17:27.64 gonna happen. 00:17:27.68\00:17:28.98 Now, I'm gonna go to Isaiah 24:19. 00:17:29.01\00:17:32.41 Doug: Okay, we gotta wrap this up pretty quick 'cause we wanna 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.82 get to the question. 00:17:34.85\00:17:36.18 Steve: Okay, this is the last one 24:19. 00:17:36.22\00:17:39.49 "The earth is utterly broken down, earth is clean dissolved 00:17:39.52\00:17:43.83 and the earth is moved exceedingly." 00:17:43.86\00:17:45.86 So it sounds to me like this earth's gonna roll out like a 00:17:45.89\00:17:48.40 scroll where everybody could seem at one time. 00:17:48.43\00:17:52.43 Doug: Oh, I see what you're saying. 00:17:52.47\00:17:54.44 Yeah, well, there's now question that the earth is gonna go 00:17:54.47\00:17:57.27 through tremendous turmoil, but I don't think you need to bend 00:17:57.31\00:18:01.04 over backwards to try to destroy the earth and make this 00:18:01.08\00:18:03.95 verse fit. 00:18:03.98\00:18:05.21 When it says every eye will see Him, it means on the day of the 00:18:05.25\00:18:07.65 Lord, every eye will see Him. 00:18:07.68\00:18:09.68 Every eye of everybody alive, as Christ goes around the world and 00:18:09.72\00:18:14.42 it says we are caught up to meet the Lord in the air, 00:18:14.46\00:18:16.42 it says he's coming from the east. 00:18:16.46\00:18:18.19 I'm just understanding the same way that the earth rotates and 00:18:18.23\00:18:22.60 He's gonna sweep around this circle of the earth. 00:18:22.63\00:18:24.77 Everyone will see Him that day. 00:18:24.80\00:18:26.37 Doesn't mean the same moment as He comes, the dead in Christ 00:18:26.40\00:18:30.41 will rise. 00:18:30.44\00:18:31.77 They're caught up to meet Him. 00:18:31.81\00:18:33.11 We're transformed, we're caught up to meet them, and then He 00:18:33.14\00:18:36.01 takes us back to glory. 00:18:36.04\00:18:37.38 He says, I'll take you to the places, the mansions 00:18:37.41\00:18:39.11 I've prepared. 00:18:39.15\00:18:40.48 So, you know, no question that the earth is gonna be in great 00:18:40.52\00:18:43.79 turmoil, but I don't know that the earth is gonna disintegrate 00:18:43.82\00:18:46.79 so that everybody sees Him at the same moment. 00:18:46.82\00:18:51.49 Anyway, that'll be, I just wanna be ready however that happens. 00:18:51.53\00:18:55.03 Jëan: You know, we do have a book talking about the Second 00:18:55.06\00:18:56.73 Coming of Christ. 00:18:56.77\00:18:58.10 It's called "Anything But Secret" and it talks about these 00:18:58.13\00:19:00.44 verses and some of the events connected 00:19:00.47\00:19:02.07 with the Second Coming of Christ. 00:19:02.10\00:19:03.41 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and 00:19:03.44\00:19:05.74 asks 800-835-6747. 00:19:05.77\00:19:09.08 Ask for the book anything but secret. 00:19:09.11\00:19:11.28 Also you can dial #250. 00:19:11.31\00:19:13.48 Say "Bible Answers Live" and ask for it by name. 00:19:13.52\00:19:16.75 Next caller that we have is Lee, listening in North Carolina. 00:19:16.79\00:19:19.29 Lee, welcome to Bible Answers. 00:19:19.32\00:19:21.12 You are on the air. 00:19:21.16\00:19:23.19 Lee: Oh, hi. 00:19:23.22\00:19:24.53 Thank you for taking my call. 00:19:24.56\00:19:25.89 My question, please, is the role of the Holy Spirit in heaven. 00:19:25.93\00:19:30.27 Like, I know that Jesus comes back to get us and brings us to 00:19:30.30\00:19:33.13 the Father. 00:19:33.17\00:19:34.47 So I also have read about the Holy Spirit being taken away 00:19:34.50\00:19:38.27 slowly from the earth. 00:19:38.31\00:19:39.61 Maybe during the tribulation. 00:19:39.64\00:19:41.21 I was just wondering when it's all said and done and we're all 00:19:41.24\00:19:43.95 in heaven, what's the role of the Holy 00:19:43.98\00:19:46.11 Spirit and how did He get there? 00:19:46.15\00:19:47.45 Thank you. 00:19:47.48\00:19:48.78 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:19:48.82\00:19:50.12 Well, you know, Jesus said, "It's expedient that I go, and 00:19:50.15\00:19:53.12 if I go, I will send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, 00:19:53.15\00:19:56.06 and He will be with you." 00:19:56.09\00:19:57.33 And then Christ, when He tells us "I'm with you wherever you 00:19:57.36\00:19:59.93 go" in Matthew chapter 28. 00:19:59.96\00:20:03.16 Well, how is God with us? 00:20:03.20\00:20:04.57 God is with us through God the Spirit. 00:20:04.60\00:20:07.70 Jesus said, you know, "He will take of My Father and give it 00:20:07.74\00:20:12.24 to you." 00:20:12.27\00:20:13.61 And so even in heaven, we will have God's Spirit and presence 00:20:13.64\00:20:18.11 with us all through the cosmos wherever we might roam through 00:20:18.15\00:20:22.25 God the Spirit. 00:20:22.28\00:20:23.59 And so communication with God wherever we are is probably 00:20:23.62\00:20:29.19 gonna transpire through the Spirit 'cause I do believe that 00:20:29.22\00:20:31.53 God has a place in time that He sits enthroned, there is a 00:20:31.56\00:20:36.73 center to his kingdom somewhere, a capital. 00:20:36.77\00:20:39.47 Says He Himself will dwell with us. 00:20:39.50\00:20:41.37 We will see His face. 00:20:41.40\00:20:42.70 But as we go to worlds unknown and we travel or anywhere in 00:20:42.74\00:20:45.61 the world. 00:20:45.64\00:20:46.98 If we're building our mansions and country homes, God's still 00:20:47.01\00:20:49.81 with us through His Spirit. 00:20:49.84\00:20:52.41 So I think the work of the Spirit's gonna be still 00:20:52.45\00:20:54.85 very real. 00:20:54.88\00:20:56.18 It'll be different in that it's not there convicting us of sin 00:20:56.22\00:20:59.19 because there's no sin then, but it will still have the peace in 00:20:59.22\00:21:02.76 the presence of the Spirit. 00:21:02.79\00:21:05.16 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Taiwan listening 00:21:05.19\00:21:08.60 from Alabama. 00:21:08.63\00:21:10.17 Taiwan: Hello, hey, pastors. 00:21:10.20\00:21:11.53 I just wanted to ask in Hebrews 4:5 and again in this place, 00:21:11.57\00:21:16.71 they "shall not enter My rest." 00:21:16.74\00:21:18.41 I wanted to see if that's the Sabbath he was referring to. 00:21:18.44\00:21:23.65 Doug: No, in a word. 00:21:23.68\00:21:26.21 In Hebrews, he's talking about, you know, the rest that we have 00:21:26.25\00:21:31.69 through salvation in Christ. 00:21:31.72\00:21:33.89 The children of Israel looked upon 00:21:33.92\00:21:36.19 the Promised Land as the rest. 00:21:36.22\00:21:39.86 Instead of wandering, and even as they first 00:21:39.89\00:21:42.33 entered, they had to fight the Canaanites. 00:21:42.36\00:21:45.23 Finally, when they were all subdued, they could go to their 00:21:45.27\00:21:48.50 homes and plant their vineyards, and they called that entering 00:21:48.54\00:21:51.24 their rest. 00:21:51.27\00:21:52.61 So it's compared to the Sabbath in Hebrews 4. 00:21:52.64\00:21:56.58 But it's--Hebrews here, the writer we believe is Paul, he's 00:21:56.61\00:22:02.42 talking about Joshua in the Old Testament bringing them into 00:22:02.45\00:22:05.89 rest, how David was speaking in the Psalms of the rest 00:22:05.92\00:22:09.99 that we have in the Lord. 00:22:10.03\00:22:11.33 And the Sabbath is a symbol of that rest. 00:22:11.36\00:22:14.10 But he's really talking about Jesus. 00:22:14.10\00:22:16.97 Said--when he says, "I swore in My 00:22:17.00\00:22:19.23 wrath, they will not enter My rest." 00:22:19.27\00:22:20.50 The people that didn't believe in the wilderness did not make 00:22:20.54\00:22:22.90 it to the Promised Land. 00:22:22.94\00:22:24.31 They lost faith. 00:22:24.34\00:22:25.91 And again, then he quotes, "They shall not enter My rest." 00:22:25.94\00:22:29.64 Again, he's quoting from verse 3 in the same passage. 00:22:29.68\00:22:33.52 So, hope that makes a little sense. 00:22:33.55\00:22:35.65 But he uses the Sabbath here in sort of a symbolic sense. 00:22:35.68\00:22:39.25 He does say "There remains therefore a Sabbath for the 00:22:39.29\00:22:41.66 people of God." 00:22:41.69\00:22:43.19 And I think that's talking about, of course, there is a 00:22:43.22\00:22:44.86 Sabbath day, but there's also a Sabbath rest that we have 00:22:44.89\00:22:48.83 in Christ. 00:22:48.86\00:22:50.17 Jëan: All right, thank you. 00:22:50.20\00:22:51.53 Next call that we have is Lee listening in Texas. 00:22:51.57\00:22:53.30 Lee, welcome to the program. 00:22:53.34\00:22:54.97 Lee: Yes, thank you for taking my call tonight. 00:22:55.00\00:22:57.57 I have a question that's been on my mind for many, many years now 00:22:57.61\00:23:02.81 and hopefully I can finally get some--finally get the answer 00:23:02.84\00:23:05.88 to it. 00:23:05.91\00:23:07.28 My question is Jesus always said that He and the Father are one. 00:23:07.32\00:23:10.79 So everything that God knows that He would know as well. 00:23:10.82\00:23:14.26 So if that's the case, why did Jesus say that He didn't know 00:23:14.29\00:23:18.09 the date and time of His return when He's supposed to know? 00:23:18.13\00:23:21.83 I mean, He knows everything that God knows. 00:23:21.86\00:23:23.50 Did He lie about that or He just couldn't say anything about it? 00:23:23.53\00:23:27.40 Doug: No, I think that when Christ spoke of His Second 00:23:27.44\00:23:31.64 Coming, He made that statement that the angels don't know, but 00:23:31.67\00:23:34.38 the Father only. 00:23:34.41\00:23:35.74 Christ on earth had divested Himself of a lot of His 00:23:35.78\00:23:40.22 supernatural knowledge. 00:23:40.25\00:23:42.08 And when Jesus was on earth, He did not know. 00:23:42.12\00:23:45.12 And think about it for a moment. 00:23:45.15\00:23:46.82 If He did know a date, how would He tell the disciples that he 00:23:46.86\00:23:51.59 was coming in, you know, 2050. 00:23:51.63\00:23:54.20 I'm just making that up. 00:23:54.20\00:23:55.53 They didn't even keep time like that. 00:23:55.56\00:23:57.70 It would have made no sense to them. 00:23:57.73\00:23:59.37 They didn't understand that calendar we use today. 00:23:59.40\00:24:02.54 So I think Christ said, look, you know, here now on earth, I 00:24:02.57\00:24:06.91 don't know, but you can be certain that Christ now 00:24:06.94\00:24:09.91 glorified at the right hand of the Father. 00:24:09.94\00:24:12.71 God the Father is not holding an envelope like people at some 00:24:12.75\00:24:15.82 awards ceremony and saying I can't tell you when you're 00:24:15.85\00:24:18.25 supposed to come back, it's a secret. 00:24:18.29\00:24:19.92 No, Jesus is omniscient. 00:24:19.95\00:24:21.59 He knows everything now. 00:24:21.62\00:24:23.22 But when he was a human on earth, He laid aside a lot of 00:24:23.26\00:24:26.03 His divinity. 00:24:26.06\00:24:27.40 So yes, I'm quite sure Jesus knows now. 00:24:27.40\00:24:31.27 Hey, you know, Pastor Ross, we're gonna take a break and 00:24:31.30\00:24:33.54 don't go anywhere. 00:24:33.57\00:24:34.90 More questions coming in just a moment. 00:24:34.94\00:24:36.67 announcer: Stay tuned, "Bible Answers Live" will 00:24:40.21\00:24:42.64 return shortly. 00:24:42.68\00:24:44.31 announcer: Amazing Facts: Changed Lives. 00:24:50.65\00:24:53.79 Charlie Green: My life was in turmoil. 00:24:58.59\00:25:01.03 My wife and I were fighting all the time. 00:25:01.06\00:25:03.16 I got away from everything and everybody. 00:25:03.20\00:25:05.87 I don't know, it just--I always had this emptiness in my heart. 00:25:05.90\00:25:09.30 I don't want it filled. 00:25:09.34\00:25:10.74 I just felt like I went my whole life, you know, 00:25:10.77\00:25:13.07 just searching for something 00:25:13.11\00:25:14.41 And my father died, and that ruined me a lot. 00:25:14.44\00:25:18.65 My father didn't believe in suicide, and I didn't want to 00:25:18.68\00:25:22.12 live, but rather than disrespect him, I decided I would just 00:25:22.15\00:25:25.79 become so mean that someone else would do it to me and I wouldn't 00:25:25.82\00:25:28.29 have to. 00:25:28.32\00:25:29.62 So I joined the army thinking what better place to get killed 00:25:29.66\00:25:32.06 than in the army. 00:25:32.09\00:25:33.43 And while I was in the army, my daughter got injured. 00:25:33.46\00:25:35.86 She was in an accident and she was blind and paraplegic. 00:25:35.90\00:25:41.60 And it's just like I felt the whole world 00:25:41.64\00:25:44.14 was coming down on me. 00:25:44.17\00:25:45.47 And one morning I just really got mad and I gave God a cussing 00:25:45.51\00:25:49.58 like you wouldn't believe. 00:25:49.61\00:25:51.11 I said, I'm not Moses, not Abraham. 00:25:51.15\00:25:54.18 You know, I don't--but I put my sandals on just like they do. 00:25:54.22\00:25:58.09 And I'm a man. 00:25:58.12\00:25:59.45 I don't wanna know why this is happening to me. 00:25:59.49\00:26:01.42 I just wanna know that it's happening for a reason. 00:26:01.46\00:26:04.36 If you tell me right now that this is all for a reason, then 00:26:04.39\00:26:07.50 you can stack it on me from here to the end of time and I will 00:26:07.50\00:26:11.57 never complain again. 00:26:11.60\00:26:14.34 And that little TV came on. 00:26:14.37\00:26:16.74 It had been sitting there just static all night long, and there 00:26:16.77\00:26:20.21 is this minister when he pops up and he says today's lessons from 00:26:20.24\00:26:23.91 the book of Job. 00:26:23.95\00:26:25.25 God only lets those suffer that he loves the most. 00:26:25.28\00:26:28.05 And I said, "Well, that's all you have to say, Lord. 00:26:28.08\00:26:29.52 I appreciate it." 00:26:29.55\00:26:30.85 From that day forward, I knew that he was there and he was in 00:26:30.89\00:26:33.82 my life and that he would help me. 00:26:33.86\00:26:37.43 I went to prison just almost immediately after that. 00:26:37.46\00:26:41.36 I was in prison for aggravated assault. 00:26:41.40\00:26:43.57 I was in one of the worst prisons in the state 00:26:43.60\00:26:46.10 of Tennessee. 00:26:46.13\00:26:47.47 It was full of gang activity. 00:26:47.50\00:26:49.14 I got my throat cut, 52 stitches. 00:26:49.17\00:26:52.84 My neck, I could take those fingers and stick them all the 00:26:52.87\00:26:54.94 way through out my mouth. 00:26:54.98\00:26:56.34 I'd gone to the library that day because it was really about the 00:26:56.38\00:27:00.22 only thing to do. 00:27:00.25\00:27:01.55 But I ran across this little book 00:27:01.58\00:27:03.22 called "The Richest Caveman." 00:27:03.25\00:27:04.55 This book is hilarious, but it is great. 00:27:04.59\00:27:08.66 I'm sitting there with this big beard. 00:27:08.69\00:27:10.26 I'm thinking, hey, I know what it's like, look like a 00:27:10.29\00:27:12.13 caveman. 00:27:12.16\00:27:13.46 But I'm not an educated person, I guess you'd say. 00:27:13.50\00:27:16.46 But I'm a simple guy. 00:27:16.50\00:27:18.13 I'm just really a simple guy. 00:27:18.17\00:27:19.47 And that's what I loved about Doug Batchelor because this guy 00:27:19.50\00:27:24.07 is just straight out as you can get. 00:27:24.11\00:27:27.01 And my wife and I, we've kept contact through all these years 00:27:27.04\00:27:31.08 and so much has gone on. 00:27:31.11\00:27:35.42 And I told her, I said, "Listen, now, this is the center of my 00:27:35.45\00:27:39.82 world right now." 00:27:39.85\00:27:41.09 And I said, "I really want you to be involved in it with me. 00:27:41.12\00:27:44.36 I need it." 00:27:44.39\00:27:45.73 And I said, "You will too if you ever just take hold of it." 00:27:45.76\00:27:48.53 I told my wife, I said, "Listen, they've got this Amazing Facts 00:27:48.56\00:27:51.33 Bible study going here. 00:27:51.37\00:27:53.34 And this is the best way for you to get this information. 00:27:53.37\00:27:56.57 And I think, except because it's broken down and they give you 00:27:56.60\00:28:02.18 questions and to make you look for these things, you know. 00:28:02.21\00:28:08.05 So it's not anyone telling you, you find it on your own and they 00:28:08.08\00:28:11.75 teach you to actually use the Bible. 00:28:11.79\00:28:14.19 She was there faithfully every Wednesday until we decided, you 00:28:14.22\00:28:18.79 know, she wanted to be baptized also. 00:28:18.83\00:28:22.23 She saw it coming around. 00:28:22.26\00:28:24.33 The choice was made in October the 4th, 2014. 00:28:24.37\00:28:28.94 My wife and I, we were baptized in the water at the same time 00:28:28.97\00:28:33.24 and we started our walk together, I guess you'd say. 00:28:33.27\00:28:38.68 I went through everything that a man could possibly go through, I 00:28:38.71\00:28:41.92 guess, from marital trouble, loss of family members, death in 00:28:41.95\00:28:48.39 my family, 00:28:48.42\00:28:49.76 my children were harmed and my daughter was handicapped 00:28:49.79\00:28:53.19 for life, 00:28:53.23\00:28:54.50 I went to prison, but still I kept my word to God that He 00:28:54.56\00:29:00.20 could stack it on me as much as He wanted, 00:29:00.24\00:29:02.84 and I'd never question Him again, and I didn't, but I can 00:29:02.87\00:29:06.57 say this much, 00:29:06.61\00:29:08.38 He never put nothing on me that I couldn't handle 00:29:08.41\00:29:11.98 and He walked with me through it all. 00:29:12.01\00:29:14.32 And I'd like to say that--to anyone who is in prison, not to 00:29:14.35\00:29:20.26 give up, don't lose hope. 00:29:20.29\00:29:22.52 Put your faith in the Lord and study and seek 00:29:22.56\00:29:26.56 Him and He will seek you. 00:29:26.59\00:29:27.86 And my name is Charlie Green and I want you to know 00:29:27.93\00:29:30.90 that you and Amazing Facts have changed my life. 00:29:30.93\00:29:34.27 announcer: You're listening listening or calling in with your Bible questions. 00:30:34.76\00:30:37.67 Think we still have some lines open. 00:30:37.70\00:30:39.57 The number is 800-GODSAYS. 00:30:39.60\00:30:42.50 That's 800-463-7297. 00:30:42.54\00:30:45.74 I am Doug Batchelor. 00:30:45.77\00:30:47.94 Jëan: My name is Jëan Ross and we have Nel listening 00:30:47.98\00:30:51.21 in California. 00:30:51.25\00:30:52.55 Nel, welcome to the program. 00:30:52.58\00:30:54.22 Nel: Thank you, Pastor John and Pastor Doug. 00:30:54.25\00:30:58.25 My question has to do with Achan. 00:30:58.29\00:31:00.86 My question is, is why didn't God forgive Achan because I 00:31:00.89\00:31:06.03 believe it was Joshua, when he asked him, he said, you know, 00:31:06.06\00:31:09.50 "Confess now what thou hast done and give God the praise." 00:31:09.53\00:31:13.03 And Achan seemed to have confessed immediately. 00:31:13.07\00:31:16.77 So I was wondering why he and his family were still killed. 00:31:16.81\00:31:20.58 Doug: Well, Achan did not confess until they cast lots. 00:31:20.61\00:31:24.98 He waited to the last moment, and basically 00:31:25.01\00:31:27.65 the lot fell on him. 00:31:27.68\00:31:29.58 So, you know, God, basically, you know, he got caught with the 00:31:29.62\00:31:33.62 chocolate chips around his mouth, and then he said, "Yeah, 00:31:33.66\00:31:36.39 yeah, I'm guilty." 00:31:36.42\00:31:37.73 So his repentance wasn't really heartfelt. 00:31:37.76\00:31:39.23 His repentance was after God sort of fingered him and said, 00:31:39.26\00:31:41.33 "You're the one." 00:31:41.36\00:31:42.90 And the reason his family probably was judged with him is 00:31:42.93\00:31:46.47 they were accomplices. 00:31:46.50\00:31:49.17 They all knew it was hidden in the tent. 00:31:49.20\00:31:51.94 They were, you know, is probably dug a hole under the rug or I 00:31:51.97\00:31:54.64 don't know how he did it, but they all knew about the stolen 00:31:54.68\00:31:57.18 booty and they helped him keep it a secret. 00:31:57.21\00:32:00.08 And it also reminds us that our decisions can affect our 00:32:00.12\00:32:04.65 families for their salvation as in the story of Noah or their 00:32:04.69\00:32:08.92 destruction as in the story of Achan. 00:32:08.96\00:32:12.36 And so, yeah, I think that they were probably 00:32:12.39\00:32:16.40 complicit with what was happening. 00:32:16.43\00:32:17.67 We don't know that there are any little children in this family. 00:32:17.70\00:32:19.90 They may have been older kids that were of age. 00:32:19.93\00:32:23.04 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Dan in 00:32:23.07\00:32:25.07 North Carolina. 00:32:25.11\00:32:26.41 Dan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:32:26.44\00:32:28.18 Dan: Yes, good evening pastors. 00:32:28.21\00:32:29.78 Thank you so much. 00:32:29.81\00:32:31.11 Pastor, I got a question that I don't know if it's been 00:32:31.15\00:32:34.95 approached before. 00:32:34.98\00:32:36.28 Maybe yes, maybe no. 00:32:36.32\00:32:37.65 But my wife and I are of radically different 00:32:37.69\00:32:42.72 religious beliefs. 00:32:42.76\00:32:44.89 And my basic question is, how would one define unequally yoked 00:32:44.93\00:32:54.57 in the case of separating? 00:32:54.60\00:32:56.37 Doug: Yeah, well, did one of you change faiths after you 00:32:56.40\00:33:00.44 got married? 00:33:00.48\00:33:03.08 Dan: No, we were--and that is my mistake actually. 00:33:03.11\00:33:08.48 I was who and what I was and she was struggling. 00:33:08.52\00:33:12.65 She really didn't know where she wanted to be. 00:33:12.69\00:33:17.73 And I have tried progressively to, not aggressively but 00:33:17.76\00:33:23.37 progressively to introduce her to my thoughts, my beliefs, that 00:33:23.40\00:33:29.50 which I hold true and it's-- 00:33:29.54\00:33:32.81 Doug: Don't feel like you're making progress, yeah. 00:33:32.84\00:33:36.51 Dan: Yeah, she becomes offensive. 00:33:36.54\00:33:38.11 Now it's to the point where I can't bring up anything. 00:33:38.15\00:33:41.95 It turns into drama and I don't want that. 00:33:41.98\00:33:46.89 Doug: I wanna make sure we keep it, you know, this is of course, 00:33:46.92\00:33:49.16 a Bible question program. 00:33:49.19\00:33:50.99 It'd be easy to transition into counseling. 00:33:51.03\00:33:53.80 Let me tell you what the Bible says. 00:33:53.83\00:33:56.60 The Bible says that in the event that you've got a believer that 00:33:56.63\00:33:59.90 is married to an unbeliever, 00:33:59.93\00:34:01.44 if the unbeliever, let's assume that your wife is not believing 00:34:01.47\00:34:05.71 the truth--it may be you that doesn't believe in the truth, 00:34:05.74\00:34:07.94 So I don't know what your different faiths are--but if 00:34:07.98\00:34:11.45 they're willing to dwell together, they should 00:34:11.48\00:34:13.52 not divorce. 00:34:13.55\00:34:15.05 And that's 1 Corinthians chapter 7. 00:34:15.08\00:34:17.72 So I recommend you read the whole chapter there 'cause he 00:34:17.75\00:34:20.06 talks about when people of opposing faiths 00:34:20.09\00:34:24.03 find themselves married. 00:34:24.06\00:34:26.73 And especially if there's children involved, you know, you 00:34:26.76\00:34:30.50 want to create as much harmony and peace as you can even though 00:34:30.53\00:34:34.90 no question there, it's gonna be difficult. 00:34:34.94\00:34:37.84 Jëan: Now, that's a different story, though, if you're dating 00:34:37.87\00:34:40.78 someone and you're thinking about marrying them and you're 00:34:40.81\00:34:43.88 dating a person or you're engaged to a person that is of a 00:34:43.91\00:34:46.58 different faith. 00:34:46.61\00:34:48.18 Well, you know, you probably won't--you don't wanna proceed 00:34:48.22\00:34:50.99 with that marriage until there is a unity of belief. 00:34:51.02\00:34:53.96 Otherwise it's just gonna cause problems. 00:34:53.99\00:34:56.76 Doug: Yeah, but he's telling us that that's what happened. 00:34:56.79\00:34:59.83 Now, they're married. 00:34:59.86\00:35:01.20 Jëan: Yeah, they're married. 00:35:01.23\00:35:02.56 Doug: Once you've said, "I do," you made the covenant. 00:35:02.60\00:35:04.77 You kind of went in eyes wide open. 00:35:04.80\00:35:06.80 Someone said, "Before marriage, go in with your eyes wide open 00:35:06.84\00:35:09.67 and after marriage, keep them half shut to the faults of-- 00:35:09.70\00:35:13.48 to your spouse." 00:35:13.51\00:35:14.81 Jëan: You know, we do have a book Pastor that you wrote. 00:35:14.84\00:35:16.41 Is called, "Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage," and you address 00:35:16.44\00:35:19.85 these issues. 00:35:19.88\00:35:21.18 And the number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:35:21.22\00:35:24.55 Once again, it's free. 00:35:24.59\00:35:25.89 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks what 00:35:25.92\00:35:27.76 does the Bible say about the subject of marriage 00:35:27.79\00:35:30.36 and remarriage. 00:35:30.39\00:35:31.69 800-835-6747. 00:35:31.73\00:35:35.03 You can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:35:35.06\00:35:38.37 You'll be able to read a digital copy of that lesson or 00:35:38.40\00:35:41.40 that book. 00:35:41.44\00:35:42.74 Next caller there is Glenn in Ohio. 00:35:42.77\00:35:44.71 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:35:44.74\00:35:47.64 Glenn: Thank you very much pastors for taking my call. 00:35:47.68\00:35:51.01 My call--concerns the triunity of the Godhead and the 00:35:51.05\00:35:55.12 Holy Spirit. 00:35:55.15\00:35:56.75 You know, there's an interesting subject I believe about why 00:35:56.79\00:36:00.46 Jesus told the apostles he had to go so that he could send the 00:36:00.49\00:36:05.76 Holy Spirit. 00:36:05.79\00:36:07.13 I think that'd be an interesting subject we'd love to hear 00:36:07.13\00:36:08.86 talked about. 00:36:08.90\00:36:10.23 But the triunity of the Godhead, Elohim, came to Christianity 00:36:10.27\00:36:14.74 from--sun worship. 00:36:14.77\00:36:17.37 My thought about it is I believe that there's God the Father, God 00:36:17.41\00:36:22.28 the Son, and the Holy Spirit as the omnipresence of the Godhead. 00:36:22.31\00:36:28.65 In other words, there are millions of people that were not 00:36:28.68\00:36:31.09 neglected when the Holy Spirit manifest Himself as a dove at 00:36:31.12\00:36:34.39 Jesus's baptism. 00:36:34.42\00:36:37.16 So I believe there's the Father, the Son, and the manifestation 00:36:37.19\00:36:41.30 of the omnipresence of the Godhead. 00:36:41.33\00:36:44.00 I never hear that word. 00:36:44.03\00:36:45.93 Can you help me or how does that thought fit? 00:36:45.97\00:36:48.74 Doug: Yeah, so I think what you're asking is, is the Holy 00:36:48.77\00:36:52.27 Spirit a unique separate person? 00:36:52.31\00:36:54.24 Or is he just the way that the omnipresence of God the Father 00:36:54.28\00:36:58.45 and Son is demonstrated? 00:36:58.48\00:37:00.12 Well, when in Acts chapter 5, when Ananias and Sapphira lied 00:37:00.15\00:37:06.22 regarding their donation that they made, Peter said you've 00:37:06.25\00:37:09.96 not lied unto men, but when you lied to the Holy Spirit, you 00:37:09.99\00:37:14.23 lied to God. 00:37:14.30\00:37:15.70 And so Peter defines lying to the Holy Spirit as lying to God. 00:37:15.73\00:37:20.77 So when you look at the definitions of God, you find 00:37:20.80\00:37:24.11 that the Holy Spirit also fulfills the definitions, that 00:37:24.14\00:37:28.78 he is grieved, He's given an individual personality. 00:37:28.81\00:37:33.75 That's part of the reason Jesus said, "Go baptize in the name of 00:37:33.78\00:37:37.12 the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." 00:37:37.15\00:37:40.79 So you've got--it's distinct. 00:37:40.82\00:37:42.62 You find the Holy Spirit at the beginning, the Spirit of God 00:37:42.66\00:37:45.53 moved upon the face of the waters and you have the Spirit 00:37:45.56\00:37:49.03 giving an invitation in the end of the Bible where it says the 00:37:49.06\00:37:52.33 Spirit and the bride say come. 00:37:52.37\00:37:54.10 So the Holy Spirit is a separate person. 00:37:54.14\00:37:57.81 And you know, this is, it's a difficult subject and I won't 00:37:57.84\00:38:00.98 pretend it isn't. 00:38:01.01\00:38:02.31 And we need to really take our shoes off when we talk about 00:38:02.34\00:38:05.31 this because when man starts describing and defining God, 00:38:05.35\00:38:09.52 we're way out of our league. 00:38:09.55\00:38:10.85 But based on what is revealed, I think we can say with 00:38:10.89\00:38:13.66 confidence, you've got three distinct persons in the Godhead. 00:38:13.69\00:38:17.33 And I have a book on that, that it's called "The Holy Spirit 00:38:17.36\00:38:20.76 Trinity: One God or Three." 00:38:20.80\00:38:22.30 And you'll be blessed by that Glenn, please look at it. 00:38:22.33\00:38:24.73 Jëan: 800-835-6747. 00:38:24.77\00:38:27.20 Ask for the book called "The Trinity: One God or Three." 00:38:27.24\00:38:30.51 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:38:30.54\00:38:33.51 Again, it's 800-835-6747. 00:38:33.54\00:38:36.71 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:38:36.75\00:38:40.18 Say, "Bible Answers Live," ask for the book by name and you'll 00:38:40.22\00:38:43.92 be able to get a digital download and read that right 00:38:43.95\00:38:46.99 there on your phone. 00:38:47.02\00:38:48.79 Next caller that we have--thank you, Glenn. 00:38:48.82\00:38:50.66 Next caller we have is Bret--Brent in Georgia. 00:38:50.69\00:38:53.46 Brent, welcome to the program. 00:38:53.50\00:38:55.30 Bret: Good evening, pastors. How are you all? 00:38:55.33\00:38:57.37 Doug: Doing good. Thank you. 00:38:57.40\00:38:58.90 And it's Bret, if I'm not mistaken. 00:38:58.93\00:39:01.67 Bret: Yes, yeah. 00:39:01.70\00:39:03.14 So I'm interested in Proverbs 23, verses 20 and 21, and really 00:39:03.17\00:39:10.11 looking at that and it talks about over-indulgence 00:39:10.15\00:39:13.65 and gluttonous. 00:39:13.68\00:39:14.98 And so I guess looking at that, will there be obese people 00:39:15.02\00:39:18.19 in heaven? 00:39:18.22\00:39:20.59 Doug: I'm sorry. 00:39:20.62\00:39:22.72 Well, I shouldn't laugh. 00:39:22.76\00:39:24.56 I think I'm just thinking, will we have obese bodies in heaven? 00:39:24.59\00:39:28.10 No, I don't think so. 00:39:28.13\00:39:30.30 Is it possible for an obese person to be saved? 00:39:30.33\00:39:33.13 Is that maybe what you're asking? 00:39:33.17\00:39:35.07 Bret: I know that's possible. 00:39:35.10\00:39:36.40 I guess-- 00:39:36.44\00:39:38.34 Doug: Yeah, I don't think in the Resurrection, anybody's--you 00:39:38.37\00:39:40.44 see, obesity is--technically, it's an unhealthy condition, 00:39:40.48\00:39:44.95 and so I don't think anyone's gonna get a 00:39:44.98\00:39:46.48 glorified body that's unhealthy. 00:39:46.51\00:39:48.52 Does that make sense? 00:39:48.55\00:39:49.88 I don't know if we've ever had that question. 00:39:49.92\00:39:51.15 Jëan: Yeah, I mean, there's different factors for obesity. 00:39:51.19\00:39:53.86 I mean, one could just be temperance but they could also 00:39:53.89\00:39:57.16 be medical reasons. 00:39:57.19\00:39:58.49 There's other factors that come into play. 00:39:58.53\00:40:01.06 So, yeah, there are health risks, 00:40:01.10\00:40:03.26 of course, as we know, it can shorten a person's life if 00:40:03.30\00:40:06.77 they're obese, but that's not preventing someone from 00:40:06.80\00:40:09.97 receiving Christ and being saved. 00:40:10.01\00:40:12.27 But like you say, Pastor Doug, I think everyone is gonna have 00:40:12.31\00:40:14.91 that perfect body when Jesus comes, and I don't know too many 00:40:14.94\00:40:18.95 obese people that think it is a good thing for them to be 00:40:18.98\00:40:23.49 struggling with weight. 00:40:23.52\00:40:24.85 So they're looking forward to that brand-new body as well if 00:40:24.89\00:40:27.42 they're a believer. 00:40:27.46\00:40:28.79 Doug: And let's suppose you have a person that's you know, 100 00:40:28.82\00:40:31.09 pounds overweight, which would be unhealthy. 00:40:31.13\00:40:33.70 And they find the Lord and they come to the Lord and they start, 00:40:33.73\00:40:36.16 you know, working to make changes in their lifestyle and 00:40:36.20\00:40:40.00 they die before they get there. 00:40:40.04\00:40:41.80 Well, you know, it's a process, and so they'd certainly 00:40:41.84\00:40:45.17 be saved. 00:40:45.21\00:40:47.24 But then there's the other question is gluttony a sin? 00:40:47.28\00:40:51.48 And I think we need to say the lusts of the flesh, whether it's 00:40:51.51\00:40:55.55 sexual or drug addiction or gluttony. 00:40:55.58\00:40:59.49 Those are all sins that should be overcome. 00:40:59.52\00:41:02.22 Jëan: All right, good question. 00:41:02.26\00:41:03.96 First time we've had that one. 00:41:03.99\00:41:05.76 Next caller that we have. 00:41:05.79\00:41:07.13 Let's see calling from New Jersey and it's Spendjani. 00:41:07.13\00:41:11.07 Spendjani, welcome to the program. 00:41:11.10\00:41:13.44 Spendjani: Thank you, Pastors for taking my call. 00:41:13.47\00:41:15.24 How are you? 00:41:15.27\00:41:16.60 Doug: Doing great. Thanks for calling. 00:41:16.64\00:41:19.27 Spendjani: No problem, so my question today is about 00:41:19.31\00:41:22.04 Genesis chapter 22. 00:41:22.08\00:41:24.18 Why did God refer to Isaac as Abraham's only son when 00:41:24.21\00:41:28.08 obviously he had Ishmael first? 00:41:28.12\00:41:30.45 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:41:30.49\00:41:31.79 I think it's because having Ishmael was not God's plan. 00:41:31.82\00:41:39.39 God's plan was that through his son, Abraham's son with Sarah, 00:41:39.43\00:41:45.17 the Messiah would come. 00:41:45.20\00:41:47.04 When Abraham and Sarah became impatient because they thought, 00:41:47.07\00:41:50.57 oh, well, you know, Sarah's getting too old, she's beyond 00:41:50.61\00:41:52.94 the age of bearing. 00:41:52.97\00:41:54.31 We're gonna help God out. 00:41:54.34\00:41:55.64 We're gonna get this Egyptian slave and use her as 00:41:55.68\00:41:57.25 a surrogate. 00:41:57.28\00:41:58.71 And then, you know, Abraham and Hagar have the son, Ishmael. 00:41:58.75\00:42:04.85 Ultimately, Hagar and Ishmael are sent away. 00:42:04.89\00:42:07.96 And it's kind of hard for us to understand this. 00:42:07.99\00:42:10.49 But God basically said, "Put her away" and the word is divorce. 00:42:10.53\00:42:14.36 So the son that God was going to bring the Messiah through 00:42:14.36\00:42:18.90 was Isaac. 00:42:18.93\00:42:20.24 Now, Abraham married after Sarah died and he, through a woman 00:42:20.27\00:42:24.87 named Keturah, and he had several other sons. 00:42:24.91\00:42:27.84 But when he offered his only son, Isaac was a type of Christ 00:42:27.88\00:42:32.35 and God so loved the world, He gave His Son. 00:42:32.38\00:42:34.25 God doesn't have several divine sons. 00:42:34.28\00:42:37.42 He only had Jesus. 00:42:37.45\00:42:38.75 Isaac was a type of that. 00:42:38.79\00:42:40.66 Jëan: And I think Isaac's the only one of Abraham's children 00:42:40.69\00:42:44.03 that was a miracle birth through Sarah. 00:42:44.06\00:42:46.23 Doug: Yeah, good point. 00:42:46.26\00:42:47.60 Jëan: Whereas all the others were sort of--and I think as you 00:42:47.60\00:42:50.17 said, that's a type of Christ Jesus, of course, there was a 00:42:50.20\00:42:52.60 miracle birth with Mary, and it also is a reference to that it's 00:42:52.63\00:42:57.77 God that would fulfill the promise. 00:42:57.81\00:42:59.54 It was a man that was to fill the promise. 00:42:59.57\00:43:02.18 So in that sense, Isaac is different from the other sons 00:43:02.21\00:43:04.88 that Abraham had. 00:43:04.91\00:43:06.25 Doug: I think Paul addresses that too. 00:43:06.28\00:43:07.58 One was a child of kind of works and one was a child of faith. 00:43:07.62\00:43:12.09 So I hope that helps a little bit 00:43:12.12\00:43:13.46 and good question, thank you. 00:43:13.49\00:43:15.36 Jëan: Richard in Arkansas is listening. 00:43:15.39\00:43:16.93 Richard, welcome to the program. 00:43:16.96\00:43:19.36 Richard: Hey, thank you for having me. 00:43:19.39\00:43:20.73 How are y'all doing tonight? 00:43:20.76\00:43:22.06 Doug: Great. Thanks for calling. 00:43:22.10\00:43:24.77 Richard: I just have one quick question. 00:43:24.80\00:43:26.33 I'll make it short for y'all. 00:43:26.37\00:43:28.04 What does the Bible say about our pets being in heaven? 00:43:28.07\00:43:31.81 Doug: Yeah, that is a good question. 00:43:31.84\00:43:34.21 We've had that from time to time because a lot of folks, like 00:43:34.24\00:43:38.55 myself, Pastor Ross has probably had beloved pets and, you know, 00:43:38.58\00:43:42.95 usually humans outlive them unless you get a turtle, a 00:43:42.98\00:43:46.15 tortoise or something. 00:43:46.19\00:43:48.52 You had a parrot for a long time. 00:43:48.56\00:43:49.86 Jëan: We did, they live long. Doug: A long time. 00:43:49.89\00:43:52.09 Jëan: I'm laughing at that, Pastor. 00:43:52.13\00:43:53.43 Like some of these turtles or tortoises can 00:43:53.46\00:43:55.30 live like 200, 300 years. 00:43:55.33\00:43:56.63 They could outlive you and your children. 00:43:56.67\00:43:59.43 Doug: They don't have a lot of personality though. 00:43:59.47\00:44:01.60 But anyway, and so, you know, we wonder, 00:44:01.64\00:44:05.74 is there any hope for them? 00:44:05.77\00:44:07.08 We love some of these pets and we'd love to see them again. 00:44:07.11\00:44:11.08 Are they gone forever? 00:44:11.11\00:44:12.95 You know, the Bible, I have to tell you the Bible does not 00:44:12.98\00:44:15.12 specifically address it. 00:44:15.15\00:44:17.02 What the Bible does say is there will be animals in heaven. 00:44:17.05\00:44:20.46 So we know that, and then the Bible says that the eyes have 00:44:20.49\00:44:24.59 not seen, the ear has not heard, neither has entered into the 00:44:24.63\00:44:27.60 heart, meaning the imagination of man, what God has prepared 00:44:27.60\00:44:31.13 for those that love him. 00:44:31.17\00:44:32.47 So I think when we get to heaven, there'll be a lot of 00:44:32.50\00:44:34.24 amazing surprises and among those surprises that are joyful, 00:44:34.27\00:44:40.14 we may find that God is resurrecting our beloved cat or 00:44:40.18\00:44:44.85 dog or parakeet or whatever it was and that they're going to be 00:44:44.88\00:44:48.38 there with a glorified body. 00:44:48.42\00:44:49.75 We don't know that, but certainly not beyond Him. 00:44:49.78\00:44:53.76 That's as close as I think we can come. 00:44:53.79\00:44:55.96 Now, we've got a friend, Steve Wahlberg, he wrote a book, "Will 00:44:55.99\00:45:01.06 My Pet Be in Heaven?" 00:45:01.10\00:45:02.56 And I think he ends up with the argument that yes, if it was a 00:45:02.60\00:45:06.63 good pet. 00:45:06.67\00:45:07.97 Now dogs, maybe not cats, but dogs will be in there. 00:45:08.00\00:45:11.17 I'm gonna get all these letters from cat owners now. 00:45:11.21\00:45:14.14 Jëan: All right, well, thank you, Richard. 00:45:14.18\00:45:15.81 Next caller that we have is Elizabeth in Colorado. 00:45:15.84\00:45:18.38 Elizabeth, welcome to the program. 00:45:18.41\00:45:20.88 Elizabeth: Thank you. Doug: Hi, thanks for calling. 00:45:20.92\00:45:24.35 Elizabeth: Hi; my question is, will Jesus 00:45:24.39\00:45:28.26 forgive Pontius Pilate? 00:45:28.29\00:45:30.13 Because in the Bible it says when he first went to Pontius 00:45:30.16\00:45:34.10 Pilate and they sent him over there, that Pontius Pilate 00:45:34.13\00:45:37.53 didn't find anything wrong in him. 00:45:37.57\00:45:39.33 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, in the dialogue between Jesus and 00:45:39.37\00:45:42.70 Pilate, Jesus does say the one who turned me over to you has 00:45:42.74\00:45:46.41 the greater sin. 00:45:46.44\00:45:47.78 He didn't say Pilate was sinless. 00:45:47.81\00:45:49.51 Pilate said Jesus was innocent and in spite of the fact he was 00:45:49.54\00:45:53.28 innocent, he said, well, to make you happy, I'll beat him and 00:45:53.31\00:45:56.12 then let him go. 00:45:56.15\00:45:57.79 And well, if you think he's innocent, why are you going to 00:45:57.82\00:46:00.12 beat him? 00:46:00.16\00:46:01.39 And then because a mob is crying for his blood instead of calling 00:46:01.42\00:46:05.19 out the guard and saying he's innocent, I'm gonna protect him. 00:46:05.23\00:46:07.66 He hands him over because he's worried about his career and how 00:46:07.66\00:46:10.67 it's gonna look to the Romans if there's a riot. 00:46:10.70\00:46:13.47 So I think Pilate caved and I believe he's gonna be lost. 00:46:13.50\00:46:19.51 And I think, you know, Christ is merciful in the judgment. 00:46:19.54\00:46:22.18 He realized Pilate was pressured into it and God takes that 00:46:22.21\00:46:24.75 into account. 00:46:24.78\00:46:26.11 But I don't think Pilate's gonna make it based on what the Bible 00:46:26.15\00:46:29.12 record is. 00:46:29.15\00:46:30.45 And it's not in the scripture, but in Christian history and 00:46:30.49\00:46:34.59 Roman history, it seems to say he was eventually banished 00:46:34.62\00:46:37.26 to Spain. 00:46:37.29\00:46:38.63 I believe it was Spain and he committed suicide. 00:46:38.66\00:46:41.36 So his wife warned him in a dream, "Don't have anything to 00:46:41.40\00:46:46.70 do with that just man." 00:46:46.74\00:46:48.57 And Pilate knew he was just, and he still condemned him. 00:46:48.60\00:46:51.21 So I think he's guilty. 00:46:51.24\00:46:52.57 Jëan: And that almost makes it worse. 00:46:52.61\00:46:54.04 He knew that Christ was innocent and yet he's still condemned 00:46:54.08\00:46:57.55 to death, he murdered him, so. 00:46:57.58\00:47:00.05 All right, thank you, Elizabeth. We've got Jo in New Mexico. 00:47:00.08\00:47:03.45 Jo, welcome to the program. 00:47:03.49\00:47:06.25 Jo: Good evening, pastors. How are you? 00:47:06.29\00:47:08.76 Doug: Good, thank you, Jo. Appreciate your calling. 00:47:08.79\00:47:11.56 Jo: And thank you for accepting the call. 00:47:11.59\00:47:14.13 I was wondering, where was Daniel when Hananiah and Ananias 00:47:14.20\00:47:19.80 and--those guys were in at the golden temple--the 00:47:19.83\00:47:25.77 golden statue, where was Daniel? 00:47:25.81\00:47:28.71 Doug: Yeah, that's a good question. 00:47:28.74\00:47:30.35 It's a little mysterious. 00:47:30.38\00:47:31.68 My idea and Pastor Ross has just got done teaching a series 00:47:31.71\00:47:34.68 on Daniel. 00:47:34.72\00:47:36.05 My understanding is that Nebuchadnezzar, knowing that 00:47:36.08\00:47:39.89 Daniel had told him his golden kingdom would not continue, 00:47:39.92\00:47:42.89 might have sent him off on business in another part of 00:47:42.92\00:47:45.53 the kingdom. 00:47:45.56\00:47:46.86 I don't think it was an accident Daniel was not there. 00:47:46.90\00:47:50.00 But you got any thoughts? 00:47:50.03\00:47:52.10 Jëan: Yeah, it's almost as if Nebuchadnezzar had forgotten 00:47:52.13\00:47:54.57 about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, or Hananiah, Mishael, 00:47:54.60\00:47:57.31 and Azariah, which are their Hebrew names, because when they 00:47:57.34\00:48:00.38 came before the king, he gave them a second chance, which 00:48:00.41\00:48:03.78 you'd think he wouldn't have done to anyone else. 00:48:03.81\00:48:06.41 But it's as if he suddenly realizes, "Oh, man, I forgot 00:48:06.45\00:48:08.75 about these guys, and they're good, you know, they're 00:48:08.78\00:48:10.55 good, loyal." 00:48:10.59\00:48:12.09 So he said, "Well, we'll give you another chance. 00:48:12.12\00:48:14.09 When you hear the music, bow down." 00:48:14.12\00:48:15.46 And of course, when they said, "Oh, king, don't, you know, you 00:48:15.49\00:48:17.73 don't have to give us another chance. 00:48:17.76\00:48:19.06 We worship the God. We're not gonna bow down." 00:48:19.09\00:48:20.73 Well, then he got furious and then, you know, the furnace was 00:48:20.76\00:48:23.50 heated seven times hotter. 00:48:23.53\00:48:24.87 So it almost appears as though, yes, he remembered Daniel and 00:48:24.90\00:48:27.70 maybe sent him off some errand, but he forgot about his three 00:48:27.74\00:48:30.77 friends, and yet they were just as faithful as Daniel. 00:48:30.81\00:48:34.21 What a story. 00:48:34.24\00:48:35.48 I mean, can you imagine if we didn't have that great story, 00:48:35.51\00:48:37.81 Daniel chapter 3. 00:48:37.85\00:48:39.15 So yeah, they were very loyal just like Daniel. 00:48:39.18\00:48:43.02 Doug: I heard one Bible scholar say that the Lord accomplished 00:48:43.05\00:48:46.29 through those three young men on the plains of Dora that day 00:48:46.32\00:48:50.26 what he had been wanting to do through the Jewish nation for 00:48:50.29\00:48:53.23 1000 years, to be a light to the Gentiles. 00:48:53.26\00:48:56.16 And they stood up and showed the power of Jehovah. 00:48:56.20\00:48:58.70 And then of course, the king sends out a declaration to the 00:48:58.73\00:49:01.37 whole empire about the God of Daniel and Hananiah, Mishael, 00:49:01.40\00:49:04.94 and Azariah. 00:49:04.97\00:49:06.27 Anyway, thanks, good call. 00:49:06.31\00:49:07.58 Jëan: And of course, Daniel had his time too in the next kingdom 00:49:07.61\00:49:09.71 and Darius where he was put in the lions' den. 00:49:09.74\00:49:11.81 So he had to stand up too. 00:49:11.85\00:49:13.78 All right, next call that we have is Eric in Michigan. 00:49:13.82\00:49:16.25 Eric, welcome to the program. 00:49:16.28\00:49:18.92 Eric: Hey, how're you guys doing tonight? 00:49:18.95\00:49:20.32 Doug: Good. Thank you for calling. 00:49:20.36\00:49:23.22 Eric: I'm looking for clarification of my thought 00:49:23.26\00:49:27.10 process due to my limited understanding. 00:49:27.13\00:49:30.03 I've been running parallels with the operating system of the 00:49:30.07\00:49:33.70 sanctuary, comparing it to the disciples and how they were 00:49:33.74\00:49:38.71 taught through Jesus. 00:49:38.74\00:49:41.01 And I noticed when you come into the courtyard of the sanctuary, 00:49:41.04\00:49:46.61 the first thing you come to is the altar, which is where it 00:49:46.65\00:49:49.35 would be where Jesus or, you know, would be sacrificed in the 00:49:49.38\00:49:52.19 New Testament, so you'd be 00:49:52.22\00:49:53.52 starting at the cross in the New Testament. 00:49:53.56\00:49:56.93 But the next thing you come to in the courtyard, I believe is 00:49:56.96\00:50:00.06 the laver where you have water baptism. 00:50:00.10\00:50:03.06 And then after the water baptism you go into the holy place where 00:50:03.10\00:50:06.84 you have the 12 loaves of shewbread which would be the 12 00:50:06.87\00:50:10.74 tribes of Israel. 00:50:10.77\00:50:12.11 You're learning, you know, there's a learning process going 00:50:12.14\00:50:14.98 on there where you'd eventually be sanctified. 00:50:15.01\00:50:18.45 Well, of course, the Old Testament, I understand that, 00:50:18.48\00:50:21.28 you know, men chose not to obey. 00:50:21.32\00:50:24.02 So then you go into the New Testament and then if you're 00:50:24.05\00:50:27.49 starting at the cross, when Jesus was resurrected, I believe 00:50:27.52\00:50:32.06 he was taught for, I think 40 days. 00:50:32.09\00:50:34.40 And then after that 40 days, the disciples got the water baptism. 00:50:34.46\00:50:39.67 And then after the water baptism, you have the Pentecost 00:50:39.70\00:50:45.94 where the Holy Spirit came down on top of them. 00:50:45.97\00:50:48.68 I guess is the center line is like the center of the Bible. 00:50:48.71\00:50:52.98 And if you go into the past or into the future, you're in a 00:50:53.01\00:50:56.08 teaching situation. 00:50:56.12\00:50:57.42 If you go farther into the past or the future, you have the 00:50:57.45\00:51:00.09 water baptism. 00:51:00.12\00:51:01.56 It's almost like it's laid out. 00:51:01.59\00:51:03.19 And then of course, you have, if you go even farther into the 00:51:03.22\00:51:05.86 past or into the future, you end up with being you're sanctified 00:51:05.89\00:51:09.43 because you would be in the holy place, being sanctified or in 00:51:09.46\00:51:13.74 the future. 00:51:13.77\00:51:15.07 Doug: Let me jump in and tell you what I do think, and you may 00:51:15.10\00:51:17.31 be overthinking it. 00:51:17.34\00:51:18.67 Is that okay? 00:51:18.71\00:51:20.41 I do think the sanctuary outlines the process 00:51:20.44\00:51:23.21 of salvation. 00:51:23.24\00:51:24.58 And I was with you when you said, you know, first thing 00:51:24.61\00:51:28.35 there's one door, Christ is the door. 00:51:28.38\00:51:30.89 First thing you encounter then is sacrifice, the altar. 00:51:30.92\00:51:34.46 It's the cross. 00:51:34.49\00:51:36.12 The children of Israel-- 00:51:36.16\00:51:37.69 And see, the sanctuary is tracing their journey to the 00:51:37.73\00:51:41.40 Promised Land. 00:51:41.43\00:51:42.76 The children of Israel, they sacrificed the lamb. 00:51:42.80\00:51:45.33 Then they went through the Red Sea, that's baptism. 00:51:45.37\00:51:48.97 In the wilderness then, they had bread, and that's the 12 loaves, 00:51:49.00\00:51:52.87 12 tribes, 12 apostles. 00:51:52.91\00:51:55.04 It's talking about God's Word and Jesus is the bread. 00:51:55.08\00:51:58.31 You've got the light. 00:51:58.35\00:51:59.68 They had a pillar of fire in the sanctuary. 00:51:59.71\00:52:01.95 God guided them, and it's a symbol for, you know, 00:52:01.98\00:52:05.79 the Spirit. 00:52:05.82\00:52:07.16 Then you have the altar of incense. 00:52:07.19\00:52:08.49 This is prayer. 00:52:08.52\00:52:09.86 So you have the three disciplines of the Christian 00:52:09.89\00:52:11.96 life are in the sanctuary. 00:52:11.99\00:52:13.76 The bread, we read our Bibles, the light, we let our light 00:52:13.80\00:52:16.90 shine, and the prayer, we commune with God. 00:52:16.93\00:52:20.47 So in the wilderness, you've got those three principal 00:52:20.50\00:52:22.90 disciplines of the Christian life. 00:52:22.94\00:52:24.44 There's a lot more to it, but I'm just simplifying it. 00:52:24.47\00:52:27.11 And then the whole idea is you go to the third phase which is 00:52:27.14\00:52:30.35 glorification in the presence of God and having 00:52:30.38\00:52:34.15 him dwell in our minds. 00:52:34.18\00:52:35.48 Thy Word I've hid in my heart. 00:52:35.52\00:52:37.82 So you got justification in the courtyard, sanctification in the 00:52:37.85\00:52:40.42 holy place, glorification in the most holy place. 00:52:40.46\00:52:43.22 So just think of it in simple terms. 00:52:43.26\00:52:46.59 I know that I've heard some studies on the sanctuary that 00:52:46.63\00:52:49.30 they can write a whole encyclopedia on it. 00:52:49.33\00:52:51.27 It's a deep, deep subject, but probably more than we can 00:52:51.30\00:52:54.67 accomplish in little sound bites of our answer time. 00:52:54.70\00:52:58.34 So I didn't mean to cut you off, but you 00:52:58.37\00:53:01.08 were getting pretty deep there. 00:53:01.11\00:53:02.41 Jëan: You know, we do have a study guide talking about that. 00:53:02.44\00:53:04.01 It's called "God Drew The Plans"-- 00:53:04.05\00:53:05.35 Doug: And our new magazine that's much deeper, yeah. 00:53:05.38\00:53:09.15 Jëan: And as you said, Pastor Doug, there's many different 00:53:09.18\00:53:12.09 facets and parts to the sanctuary and its application. 00:53:12.12\00:53:16.06 So call and ask for that. 00:53:16.09\00:53:17.53 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:53:17.56\00:53:20.96 You can ask for the study guide. 00:53:21.00\00:53:22.33 It's called "God Drew The Plans," it's on the sanctuary. 00:53:22.36\00:53:24.83 The Amazing Facts magazine is also entitled, what is that? 00:53:24.87\00:53:28.84 "Amazing Sanctuary," I think that's just what it is. 00:53:28.87\00:53:31.57 "Amazing Sanctuary." So you can ask for that as well. 00:53:31.61\00:53:33.84 Doug: I think Eric would like that 'cause it gets a little 00:53:33.88\00:53:35.88 deeper into the symbolism of the sanctuary, the time 00:53:35.91\00:53:41.18 prophecies connected with it. 00:53:41.22\00:53:42.52 Do we have time for one more? 00:53:42.55\00:53:43.79 Jëan: Rebekah in Pennsylvania. Rebekah, we got about a minute. 00:53:43.82\00:53:47.02 Rebekah: Okay, real quick, so my question is 00:53:47.06\00:53:49.19 about the Lord's Prayer. 00:53:49.22\00:53:50.53 One line says, "Lead us not into temptation." 00:53:50.56\00:53:54.66 So someone said it was anti-Christian to say the Lord's 00:53:54.73\00:53:58.60 Prayer because of that line 'cause God does not lead us into 00:53:58.63\00:54:01.50 temptation, Satan does. 00:54:01.54\00:54:03.00 So what do you think about, how do you interpret that line? 00:54:03.04\00:54:06.11 Doug: You know what? 00:54:06.14\00:54:07.48 It's actually not the best translation. 00:54:07.51\00:54:09.54 It's basically saying, lead us away from our natural tendency 00:54:09.58\00:54:14.15 towards temptation. 00:54:14.18\00:54:15.72 So we're saying, "Lead us not" meaning lead us away 00:54:15.75\00:54:19.39 from temptation. 00:54:19.42\00:54:20.89 We're gonna bid farewell. 00:54:20.92\00:54:22.26 God bless you to those listening on the satellite radio. 00:54:22.29\00:54:25.83 We'll be back next week to study with you. 00:54:25.86\00:54:27.66 For those who are listening on land-based stations, 00:54:27.66\00:54:30.10 don't go anywhere. 00:54:30.13\00:54:31.43 This is when we come back and do our rapid-fire internet 00:54:31.47\00:54:34.54 questions that have come in. 00:54:34.57\00:54:36.54 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate answers to 00:54:38.51\00:54:42.61 your Bible questions. 00:54:42.64\00:54:44.31 female announcer: Did you know Amazing Facts has a free 00:54:46.88\00:54:48.98 Bible school that you can do from the comfort of your 00:54:49.02\00:54:51.39 own home? 00:54:51.42\00:54:52.72 It includes 27 beautifully illustrated study lessons to aid 00:54:52.75\00:54:55.96 in your study of God's Word. 00:54:55.99\00:54:57.69 Sign up today for this free Bible study course by 00:54:57.73\00:55:00.56 calling 1-844-215-7000. 00:55:00.60\00:55:03.73 That's 1-844-215-7000. 00:55:03.77\00:55:07.14 male announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:12.24\00:55:14.91 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:14.94\00:55:18.48 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:18.51\00:55:22.78 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:22.82\00:55:27.79 Jëan: And hello back, welcome back, friends, to our 00:55:27.82\00:55:30.83 email questions. 00:55:30.86\00:55:32.26 And if you have a Bible-related question, you'd like to 00:55:32.29\00:55:34.20 email us, it's just balquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:34.23\00:55:38.63 All right, pastor, here we go. 00:55:38.67\00:55:39.97 Some great questions tonight. 00:55:40.00\00:55:41.57 Cynthia is asking, "What were the laws before the Ten 00:55:41.60\00:55:44.67 Commandments were given? 00:55:44.71\00:55:46.01 After all isn't sin the transgression of the law?" 00:55:46.04\00:55:49.08 Doug: Yeah, some folks say that, well, before the law was given 00:55:49.11\00:55:51.85 where there's no law, there's no sin, 00:55:51.88\00:55:53.35 then, you know, how did they know right from wrong? 00:55:53.38\00:55:55.92 The Ten Commandments were written down in the time of 00:55:55.95\00:55:58.62 Moses there in Exodus chapter 20. 00:55:58.65\00:56:00.89 But they existed, they've always existed. 00:56:00.92\00:56:04.09 It has always been wrong to worship other gods. 00:56:04.13\00:56:07.13 It's always been wrong to take innocent life. 00:56:07.20\00:56:09.83 And how do we know that? 00:56:09.86\00:56:11.20 Well, when God says to Cain, sin lies at your door and Cain 00:56:11.23\00:56:15.30 commits murder, he knew murder was a sin. 00:56:15.34\00:56:18.84 When Joseph says--now, Joseph lived long before Moses--when he 00:56:18.87\00:56:23.31 was tempted by Potiphar's wife. 00:56:23.35\00:56:25.25 And Joseph said, "How can I commit this sin of adultery and 00:56:25.28\00:56:28.95 sin against my master?" 00:56:28.98\00:56:30.29 Joseph knew that adultery was a sin. 00:56:30.32\00:56:32.89 And so you could go through a litany of sins that they 00:56:32.92\00:56:35.99 understood it was lawlessness before the Ten Commandments 00:56:36.02\00:56:38.96 were given. 00:56:38.99\00:56:40.33 The law was still there. It just wasn't codified yet. 00:56:40.36\00:56:43.26 Jëan: Okay, we've got Alex, who's asking "Does the Bible say 00:56:43.30\00:56:46.74 that Adam and Eve ate of the tree of life before they sinned, 00:56:46.77\00:56:49.70 and if so why didn't they become immortal?" 00:56:49.74\00:56:53.71 Doug: Yeah, we would assume they did eat from the tree of life. 00:56:53.74\00:56:56.51 And evidently, it's something you do more than once in 00:56:56.54\00:56:59.75 eternity because God says that the tree of life is in the New 00:56:59.78\00:57:03.85 Earth and that there's different kinds of fruit intimating that 00:57:03.89\00:57:08.59 we would come that, you know, different varieties or 00:57:08.62\00:57:11.49 different, flavors, I'm not sure, but it says 00:57:11.53\00:57:14.40 there's 12 different kinds it sounds like 12 times a year. 00:57:14.46\00:57:17.90 So, well, you know, we'll come different times. 00:57:17.93\00:57:20.90 We'll eat the fruit, and it must perpetuate life for a long time 00:57:20.94\00:57:24.24 because Adam ate from the fruit. 00:57:24.27\00:57:26.11 He lived 900 years. 00:57:26.14\00:57:28.11 Whereas, you know, today we have three-score and ten 00:57:28.14\00:57:30.55 as an average. 00:57:30.58\00:57:31.88 So we think he did eat, but it evidently something that you 00:57:31.91\00:57:34.92 do ongoing. 00:57:34.95\00:57:37.35 I don't think our eternal life is so 00:57:37.39\00:57:38.89 much coming from the fruit. 00:57:38.92\00:57:40.22 Like if you get too far out in the cosmos and you miss your 00:57:40.26\00:57:42.62 meal, you're gonna die. 00:57:42.66\00:57:43.99 I think we have eternal life, but we're gonna want to keep 00:57:44.03\00:57:45.96 eating from the tree. 00:57:45.99\00:57:47.23 Jëan: All right, last question we have here is "What would have 00:57:47.23\00:57:49.63 happened if Judas Iscariot had repented of his sin? 00:57:49.66\00:57:53.13 After all the Bible predicted that he was to betray Christ. 00:57:53.17\00:57:57.74 Doug: Yeah, well, of course, if he had genuinely repented, I 00:57:57.77\00:58:00.64 think he would have been forgiven, but he reached the 00:58:00.68\00:58:03.51 point of no return when he betrayed Christ. 00:58:03.55\00:58:07.58 It says, "Satan entered him." 00:58:07.62\00:58:09.12 He went out and it was dark. 00:58:09.15\00:58:11.05 Don't let that happen to you, friends. 00:58:11.09\00:58:12.85 Listen to the voice of the Spirit. 00:58:12.89\00:58:14.62 We'll study God's Word with you again next week. 00:58:14.66\00:58:17.03 God bless. 00:58:17.06\00:58:18.56 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate answers to 00:58:20.40\00:58:24.40 your Bible questions. 00:58:24.43\00:58:25.97
