00:00:38.87\00:00:43.91 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.94\00:00:47.91 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.94\00:00:49.84 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:49.88\00:00:51.21 Welcome to Amazing Facts "Bible Answers Live." 00:00:51.25\00:00:54.12 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:54.15\00:00:56.85 Saddam Hussein, the infamous former dictator of Iraq, became 00:00:56.89\00:01:01.26 obsessed with the ancient Babylonian ruler Nebuchadnezzar 00:01:01.29\00:01:04.83 who had conquered Israel in current-day Iran. 00:01:04.86\00:01:08.26 Saddam saw himself as a modern reincarnation of Nebuchadnezzar 00:01:08.30\00:01:12.33 who would unite the Arab world and restore the ancient empire 00:01:12.37\00:01:16.20 of Babylon, but a Hebrew prophecy in Isaiah 13 clearly 00:01:16.24\00:01:21.28 states ancient Babylon would never be rebuilt. 00:01:21.31\00:01:25.01 Seeking to prove the Jewish prediction wrong, in 1986, 00:01:25.05\00:01:29.35 Saddam spent millions to reconstruct the old site 00:01:29.38\00:01:31.85 of Babylon. 00:01:31.89\00:01:33.42 His delusions came to an end with his capture following the 00:01:33.46\00:01:36.39 Gulf War and eventual execution in 2006. 00:01:36.42\00:01:40.53 Now, the ghostly shell of his immense palace on a hill above 00:01:40.56\00:01:44.07 the ruins of Babylon and the abandoned construction projects 00:01:44.10\00:01:47.97 stand as a ghostly reminder that God's prophecies never fail. 00:01:48.00\00:01:54.21 Well, you and I have heard some stories, Pastor Ross, about the 00:01:54.24\00:01:57.41 great lengths he went to to try to re-establish himself as the 00:01:57.45\00:02:03.89 ancient ruler of Babylon. 00:02:03.92\00:02:05.25 He had pictures of him and Nebuchadnezzar everywhere, and 00:02:05.29\00:02:07.96 he was riding in an imitation charade of Nebuchadnezzar and 00:02:07.99\00:02:12.53 tried to portray himself. 00:02:12.56\00:02:14.50 In reincarnation it wouldn't have made sense with the Islam 00:02:14.56\00:02:17.70 theology, but he was kind of fantasizing. 00:02:17.73\00:02:22.14 And he hated Israel so much that he thought, "I can disprove 00:02:22.17\00:02:26.34 the prophecy. 00:02:26.37\00:02:27.68 I'll rebuild the ancient city." 00:02:27.71\00:02:29.14 Construction stopped twice during the two Gulf wars and 00:02:29.18\00:02:33.38 then ultimately came to an end. 00:02:33.42\00:02:35.32 And I've heard that--it either just happened or will happen 00:02:35.35\00:02:40.22 soon; that UNESCO is going to declare the ruins of Babylon 00:02:40.26\00:02:45.13 a historic site so it can never be rebuilt, just going to show 00:02:45.16\00:02:49.70 that God's prophecy in Isaiah 13 it'll never be rebuilt. 00:02:49.73\00:02:53.70 It'll never be inhabited. 00:02:53.74\00:02:55.30 It could not be overthrown. 00:02:55.34\00:02:57.51 Jëan Ross: You know, it seems, Pastor Doug, when you look at 00:02:57.54\00:02:59.11 the Bible, you--sometimes the Old Testament is being described 00:02:59.14\00:03:02.11 as the story of two cities. 00:03:02.14\00:03:04.15 On the one hand you have Jerusalem representing, you 00:03:04.18\00:03:06.72 know, God's dwelling place and the truth and way of salvation, 00:03:06.75\00:03:11.12 then you got the opposite of that being Babylon. 00:03:11.15\00:03:13.59 And of course historically you had the Babylonians that 00:03:13.62\00:03:16.32 conquered and destroyed Jerusalem and took the Jews 00:03:16.36\00:03:18.39 captive, but then God's people came out of Babylon and rebuilt 00:03:18.43\00:03:22.96 the temple in Jerusalem. 00:03:23.00\00:03:24.87 So that same theme of Babylon and Jerusalem kind of follows 00:03:24.90\00:03:29.14 all the way not only in the Old Testament, but we even see some 00:03:29.17\00:03:32.07 of that in the New Testament. 00:03:32.11\00:03:33.58 In the New Testament you have got a whole chapter talking 00:03:33.61\00:03:36.18 about a woman this time, and her name is Babylon. 00:03:36.21\00:03:39.41 Doug: Yeah, Babylon is actually mentioned, I think, six times in 00:03:39.45\00:03:43.92 the book of Revelation, and chapter 17 pretty clearly 00:03:43.95\00:03:49.26 identifies who Babylon is. 00:03:49.29\00:03:50.59 It's interesting that even in the New Testament times the 00:03:50.63\00:03:53.09 apostles use the word "Babylon" to kind of refer to Rome because 00:03:53.13\00:03:57.90 the Romans were occupying Israel like the Babylonians had once 00:03:57.93\00:04:00.74 done, and--I better not say too much 'cause we've got a free 00:04:00.77\00:04:04.41 offer that's going to tell people about who is Babylon in 00:04:04.44\00:04:08.38 the book of Revelation. 00:04:08.41\00:04:10.01 Jëan: That's right. 00:04:10.05\00:04:11.35 We've got a book called "The Scarlet Woman." 00:04:11.38\00:04:13.31 And the reason we have that title it's because you read the 00:04:13.35\00:04:15.58 description in Revelation 17, this woman Babylon she's dressed 00:04:15.62\00:04:19.55 in scarlet. 00:04:19.59\00:04:20.89 And we'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:04:20.92\00:04:22.79 That is the free offer for this evening called "The 00:04:22.82\00:04:25.36 Scarlet Woman." 00:04:25.39\00:04:26.73 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:04:26.76\00:04:30.40 You can ask for that by name, "The Scarlet Woman." 00:04:30.43\00:04:32.63 Or dial #250, say "Bible answers live," and then ask for that 00:04:32.67\00:04:37.21 free offer and we'll send you a digital download. 00:04:37.24\00:04:40.44 So two ways that you're going to be able to receive that offer, 00:04:40.48\00:04:43.31 and I hope you take advantage of it. 00:04:43.35\00:04:44.65 It's a great read. 00:04:44.68\00:04:45.98 It's an important study because part of the three angels' 00:04:46.01\00:04:48.55 messages, God's last-warning message, talks about Babylon 00:04:48.58\00:04:51.72 being fallen, being fallen. 00:04:51.75\00:04:53.56 So understanding who Babylon is, what it represents, that's 00:04:53.59\00:04:56.86 an important truth. 00:04:56.89\00:04:58.23 Doug: And yeah, it's amazing that I still run into some 00:04:58.26\00:05:00.30 Christian pastors that say, "Oh yeah, ancient Babylon is going 00:05:00.33\00:05:02.63 to be rebuilt." 00:05:02.66\00:05:04.00 They're totally missing not only the prophecy in Isaiah that said 00:05:04.03\00:05:06.90 it would not be but what Revelation is really 00:05:06.94\00:05:09.50 talking about. 00:05:09.54\00:05:10.87 So you owe it to yourself, friends, to pick up this 00:05:10.91\00:05:12.57 study guide. 00:05:12.61\00:05:13.91 You'll be blessed. 00:05:13.94\00:05:15.18 Jëan: All right, well, before we go to the phone lines, as we 00:05:15.21\00:05:17.31 always do let's start with prayer. 00:05:17.35\00:05:19.28 Dear Father, we thank You once again that we have this time to 00:05:19.31\00:05:21.72 open up Your Word and study. 00:05:21.75\00:05:23.28 And, Father, we always want to ask Your blessing upon 00:05:23.32\00:05:25.22 this program. 00:05:25.25\00:05:26.59 Wherever the people might be who are listening, we just pray, 00:05:26.62\00:05:28.52 Lord, that You'll guide them and be with us here in the studio as 00:05:28.56\00:05:30.89 we search the Scriptures to find a clearer understanding of 00:05:30.93\00:05:33.93 Bible truth. 00:05:33.96\00:05:35.26 For we ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:35.30\00:05:37.60 Doug: Amen. 00:05:37.63\00:05:38.97 Jëan: We're going to go to the phone lines. 00:05:39.00\00:05:40.24 We've got Elijah listening in Arizona, and he has a question 00:05:40.27\00:05:43.17 about the judgment. 00:05:43.20\00:05:45.11 Elijah, welcome to the program. 00:05:45.14\00:05:47.08 Elijah: Yes. 00:05:47.11\00:05:48.44 My question was at the time when--if you do something and 00:05:48.48\00:05:53.88 you repent, you never do it again and ask God for 00:05:53.92\00:05:57.52 forgiveness, at the time of judgment will God show it 00:05:57.55\00:06:01.89 to everyone? 00:06:01.92\00:06:03.79 Doug: No. 00:06:03.83\00:06:05.06 If you've repented of your sins and you've asked God to forgive 00:06:05.09\00:06:08.50 you, the Bible tells us that He takes our sins and He casts them 00:06:08.53\00:06:12.30 into the depths of the sea. 00:06:12.33\00:06:13.74 I'm trying to remember that verse. 00:06:13.77\00:06:15.07 I used to know it by heart. 00:06:15.10\00:06:16.44 But if they're not repented of, you can read in Luke 12:3, 00:06:16.47\00:06:21.08 "Wherefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard 00:06:21.11\00:06:24.48 in the light, and what you've spoken in the ear in inner rooms 00:06:24.51\00:06:27.68 will be proclaimed from the housetops." 00:06:27.72\00:06:29.98 So the Lord basically says, you know, everything's going to be 00:06:30.02\00:06:32.85 made manifest and open to the eyes of whom we have to do. 00:06:32.89\00:06:37.29 But if our sins are forgiven, they're under the blood. 00:06:37.33\00:06:39.83 He buries in the depths of the sea and He doesn't remember 00:06:39.86\00:06:43.06 them anymore. 00:06:43.10\00:06:44.40 He forgives and forgets our sins, so to speak. 00:06:44.43\00:06:46.50 Jëan: Yeah, Micah chapter 7, verse 19 is 00:06:46.53\00:06:48.90 the verse you were referring to there. 00:06:48.94\00:06:50.51 All right. Thank you. 00:06:50.54\00:06:51.91 Next caller that we have is Gary, and he's got a question 00:06:51.94\00:06:53.94 related to Revelation. 00:06:53.98\00:06:55.28 Gary, welcome to the program. 00:06:55.31\00:06:57.31 Gary: Thank you. 00:06:57.35\00:06:58.98 In Revelation 8:7 it says the world went by fire and hail. 00:06:59.01\00:07:02.48 So we're seeing a lot of weather events that--have that 00:07:02.52\00:07:06.59 come true? 00:07:06.62\00:07:07.96 Are we in the--in tribulation or are we just in perilous times? 00:07:07.99\00:07:12.76 Doug: Yeah. 00:07:12.79\00:07:14.10 Well, I certainly do believe, Gary, that we are seeing 00:07:14.13\00:07:17.07 an acceleration of natural disasters. 00:07:17.10\00:07:19.83 I've actually got a chart where insurance companies--of course, 00:07:19.87\00:07:23.64 they make their money and--insuring against disasters. 00:07:23.67\00:07:26.84 There--they show that all different kinds of disasters 00:07:26.88\00:07:29.88 seem to be on the increase. 00:07:29.91\00:07:31.85 Now of course, you know, they're blaming global warming for that 00:07:31.88\00:07:34.98 and other things. 00:07:35.02\00:07:36.32 But I don't think we're in the great time of trouble 'cause 00:07:36.35\00:07:39.35 that's when the seven last plagues fall. 00:07:39.39\00:07:41.86 I think we're in a time that's leading up to what you call the 00:07:41.89\00:07:44.13 small time of trouble. 00:07:44.16\00:07:45.56 You know, Jesus said there's going to be wars, rumors of 00:07:45.59\00:07:47.86 wars, earthquakes in different places, but the end isn't yet. 00:07:47.86\00:07:52.00 And so these things accelerate like labor pains get 00:07:52.03\00:07:55.90 closer together. 00:07:55.94\00:07:57.24 Before a woman has a baby, you see greater frequency, 00:07:57.27\00:08:00.21 greater intensity. 00:08:00.24\00:08:02.01 That's where we're at now. 00:08:02.04\00:08:03.55 Jëan: You know, Luke chapter 21, verse 25, Jesus talking about 00:08:03.58\00:08:06.65 end-time events he says there'll be signs in the sun and the moon 00:08:06.68\00:08:09.52 and the stars and on the earth distress of nations 00:08:09.55\00:08:12.62 with perplexity. 00:08:12.65\00:08:13.96 And then it adds this: the sea and the waves roaring. 00:08:13.99\00:08:17.06 Kind of gives the idea of an increase of storms or increase 00:08:17.09\00:08:19.73 of, you know, weather issues. 00:08:19.76\00:08:21.73 And, yeah, as we get close to the end, it seems that we see 00:08:21.76\00:08:24.37 more of that. 00:08:24.40\00:08:25.73 All right. 00:08:25.77\00:08:27.07 Thank you, Gary. 00:08:27.10\00:08:28.44 We've got Karen in Nebraska, and she's got a question 00:08:28.47\00:08:29.77 about Melchizedek. 00:08:29.80\00:08:31.21 Karen, welcome to the program. 00:08:31.24\00:08:33.78 Karen: Hi. Thank you. 00:08:33.81\00:08:36.44 I'm studying Hebrews and I'm having a hard time 00:08:36.48\00:08:38.78 with chapter 7. 00:08:38.81\00:08:40.18 Okay, I understand it's about the priesthood and it's talking 00:08:40.22\00:08:44.09 about the order of Melchizedek and the order of Aaron and the 00:08:44.12\00:08:47.72 law and the covenant, but I thought we didn't know--even 00:08:47.76\00:08:50.59 know who Melchizedek is. 00:08:50.63\00:08:52.36 How does that fit in here in chapter 7? 00:08:52.39\00:08:55.60 Doug: I think--Paul, we believe, wrote Hebrews. 00:08:55.63\00:08:58.87 Paul is showing that he--Melchizedek, who appears in 00:08:58.90\00:09:03.00 the Old Testament, is an allegory of Christ. 00:09:03.04\00:09:08.98 You know, most of the priests came from the tribe of Aaron, 00:09:09.01\00:09:12.85 but Paul is saying there were some priests of God that didn't 00:09:12.88\00:09:15.78 come from Israel at all such as Melchizedek. 00:09:15.82\00:09:19.29 When you look in the Old Testament, it says four or five 00:09:19.32\00:09:21.36 interesting things about Melchizedek. 00:09:21.39\00:09:22.89 First of all, it doesn't say where he came from. 00:09:22.92\00:09:25.46 We know he was the king of Salem that later became known as 00:09:25.49\00:09:28.83 Jerusalem which means city of peace, and Jesus is our king of 00:09:28.86\00:09:34.54 peace of the New Jerusalem. 00:09:34.57\00:09:36.60 It says he--the word Melchizedek means king of righteousness. 00:09:36.64\00:09:40.24 Jesus is our king of righteousness. 00:09:40.28\00:09:42.34 He brought Abraham bread and wine, and Jesus made the 00:09:42.38\00:09:46.82 covenant with the bread and the wine with the disciples. 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.65 And so there's a lot of analogies of Melchizedek, who is 00:09:49.68\00:09:53.56 a king and a priest. 00:09:53.59\00:09:54.92 Jesus is our high priest and our king. 00:09:54.96\00:09:56.56 So Paul is showing that he was a type of Christ who is without 00:09:56.59\00:10:01.16 beginning or end. 00:10:01.20\00:10:02.56 There--we don't know what happened to Melchizedek. 00:10:02.60\00:10:04.43 He appears and disappears in the Bible. 00:10:04.47\00:10:06.13 We don't know his genealogy. 00:10:06.17\00:10:07.87 So that's why Paul is saying all that. 00:10:07.90\00:10:09.44 Jëan: He's also laying the foundation that Christ's 00:10:09.47\00:10:12.07 priesthood, his heavenly ministry is superior to that of 00:10:12.11\00:10:15.24 the Levitical priesthood because obviously Jesus didn't come 00:10:15.28\00:10:18.35 through the tribe of Levi. 00:10:18.38\00:10:19.68 He came through the tribe of Judah. 00:10:19.71\00:10:21.08 So someone said, "Well, how can he be a priest if he's not part 00:10:21.12\00:10:24.09 of the tribe of Levi?" 00:10:24.12\00:10:25.45 Paul is making the argument in Hebrews saying, well, he's 00:10:25.49\00:10:27.56 actually part or a symbol--Melchizedek is a symbol 00:10:27.59\00:10:30.89 or a type of Christ priesthood, which is even greater than that 00:10:30.93\00:10:34.00 of the Levitical priesthood because Abraham gave a tithe 00:10:34.03\00:10:37.07 to Melchizedek. 00:10:37.10\00:10:38.77 So that's his argument. 00:10:38.80\00:10:40.10 He's kind of portraying this high-priestly ministry of Jesus 00:10:40.14\00:10:42.87 far superior to that of the Hebrew or the 00:10:42.90\00:10:46.24 Levitical priesthood. 00:10:46.27\00:10:47.58 Doug: You got a good series on Hebrews. 00:10:47.61\00:10:48.91 I should have let you answer that. 00:10:48.94\00:10:50.28 Jëan: No, no, it's a good--you gave a good answer. 00:10:50.31\00:10:51.95 That's a great study. It really is. 00:10:51.98\00:10:54.32 All right. Thank you, Karen. 00:10:54.35\00:10:57.02 We got Glenn listening in Ohio, question about Acts chapter 2. 00:10:57.05\00:11:00.59 Glenn, welcome to the program. 00:11:00.62\00:11:03.19 Glenn: Good evening. 00:11:03.22\00:11:04.53 Thank you very much for taking my call. 00:11:04.56\00:11:06.96 Doug: Yeah. 00:11:07.00\00:11:08.26 Glenn: Now, historically Christianity is not a religion 00:11:08.30\00:11:09.90 that was practiced till about 4 centuries after the apostles. 00:11:09.93\00:11:14.97 If that's the case, what doctrine did the apostles adhere 00:11:15.00\00:11:18.54 to in Acts 2:42? 00:11:18.57\00:11:21.34 Then if the statement about the history of Christianity is not 00:11:21.38\00:11:25.51 true, when did Christianity come on the scene and where did the 00:11:25.55\00:11:29.75 name come from? 00:11:29.78\00:11:31.95 Doug: Well, it tells us they first called them Christians. 00:11:31.99\00:11:34.06 It's right in the Bible. 00:11:34.09\00:11:35.42 It--in the book of Acts, it says they first called them 00:11:35.46\00:11:37.56 Christians in Antioch. 00:11:37.59\00:11:39.33 So that's back in the days of the apostles. 00:11:39.36\00:11:41.10 So I'm not sure where you heard that the religion of 00:11:41.13\00:11:44.60 Christianity did not begin until 4 centuries after Christ. 00:11:44.63\00:11:48.77 The organized Catholic Church may not have begun until that 00:11:48.80\00:11:53.11 point, but Christianity began in the Old Testament. 00:11:53.14\00:11:57.38 Jëan: And that verse you're talking about, Pastor Doug, Acts 00:11:57.41\00:11:59.45 chapter 11, verse 26 where it says, as you mentioned, in 00:11:59.48\00:12:02.38 Antioch the believers were called Christians. 00:12:02.42\00:12:05.05 So that's kind of the origin of the name. 00:12:05.09\00:12:07.26 And of course the early church for the first 100 years, they 00:12:07.29\00:12:10.36 were taught by the apostles who were taught by Christ directly. 00:12:10.39\00:12:13.90 So the church was growing. 00:12:13.93\00:12:15.26 It was evangelistic. 00:12:15.30\00:12:16.53 They were faithful to the Word, and they--yeah, it wasn't until 00:12:16.56\00:12:20.14 the legalization of Christianity in 313 and the rise of the 00:12:20.17\00:12:24.17 papal power or Catholic Church that we begin to see some 00:12:24.21\00:12:28.58 compromise taking place where the church began to wander away 00:12:28.61\00:12:32.18 from the simple truths of the Bible. 00:12:32.21\00:12:33.72 Doug: Church was organized. 00:12:33.75\00:12:35.08 Even in Acts chapter 6, they're appointing deacons and then 00:12:35.12\00:12:38.29 they're having--Paul is appointing elders. 00:12:38.32\00:12:40.66 Jëan: And they had a council in Jerusalem. 00:12:40.69\00:12:42.12 Doug: Yeah. 00:12:42.16\00:12:43.49 So they were--they didn't maybe have a big Vatican, but they 00:12:43.53\00:12:46.09 certainly were an organized religion at that point. 00:12:46.13\00:12:49.20 Thank you. 00:12:49.23\00:12:50.57 Good question, Glenn. 00:12:50.60\00:12:51.83 Jëan: We've got Nicole listening in Michigan, and she's asking 00:12:51.87\00:12:53.70 about the Day of Atonement. 00:12:53.74\00:12:55.37 Nicole, welcome to the program. 00:12:55.40\00:12:58.04 Nicole: Hi, good evening. How are you? 00:12:58.07\00:13:01.48 Doug: Good. How are you? 00:13:01.51\00:13:02.81 Nicole: Good. 00:13:02.84\00:13:04.18 My question is, when Babylon came and destroyed Jerusalem--I 00:13:04.21\00:13:07.55 mean, the sanctuary, the ark was taken and hidden. 00:13:07.58\00:13:12.09 So when Nehemiah and Ezra went back to rebuild the city and 00:13:12.12\00:13:17.59 they started to perform the various ceremonies, mainly the 00:13:17.63\00:13:20.83 Day of Atonement, how are they keeping the Day of Atonement if 00:13:20.86\00:13:24.17 the Ark of the Covenant was not in the most holy place? 00:13:24.20\00:13:27.90 Doug: Good question. 00:13:27.94\00:13:29.24 And, you know, there's all--all I have on that is speculation 00:13:29.27\00:13:33.51 and I've never read anything definitive, but you're right. 00:13:33.54\00:13:37.01 The real ark, the original ark that was made during the time of 00:13:37.05\00:13:40.08 Moses, captured once by the Philistines, recovered--then 00:13:40.12\00:13:43.69 when Nebuchadnezzar came and besieged the city, it was hidden 00:13:43.72\00:13:47.26 somewhere and it's probably still hidden there. 00:13:47.29\00:13:50.53 No, Solomon did not give it to the Queen of Sheba as our 00:13:50.56\00:13:54.10 Ethiopian friends say 'cause it appears again later during the 00:13:54.13\00:13:58.03 time of King Josiah. 00:13:58.07\00:13:59.67 But as near as we can tell, when they rebuilt the temple they put 00:13:59.70\00:14:02.74 some facsimile of the ark in there so that the priest could 00:14:02.77\00:14:07.48 put blood on it during the Day of Atonement. 00:14:07.51\00:14:10.38 But they were hoping that God would restore to them the place 00:14:10.41\00:14:14.52 of the original ark. 00:14:14.55\00:14:15.85 So I don't think they ever made a copy of it. 00:14:15.88\00:14:17.82 At least I don't see any record of that. 00:14:17.85\00:14:20.26 But they had--they put, I think, some kind of facsimile of it 00:14:20.29\00:14:22.66 with a golden horn so they could put the blood on it. 00:14:22.69\00:14:24.83 Jëan: Right, of course, what made the Ark of the Covenant so 00:14:24.86\00:14:26.73 special was the law written by the finger of God on the tables 00:14:26.76\00:14:30.13 of stone inside the ark. 00:14:30.17\00:14:31.80 That could never be reproduced. 00:14:31.83\00:14:33.50 So they had, like you say, maybe a box of some kind or something 00:14:33.54\00:14:37.51 to kind of represent where it stood in the most holy place. 00:14:37.54\00:14:41.44 Okay, thanks, Nicole. Good question. 00:14:41.48\00:14:43.51 We got Dana listening in New York, and she's calling about 00:14:43.55\00:14:47.65 what does the Bible say about praise dancing. 00:14:47.68\00:14:50.02 Dana, welcome to the program. 00:14:50.05\00:14:52.22 Dana: Yes, hi. How are you all doing? 00:14:52.25\00:14:54.59 Doug: Doing very well. Thank you. 00:14:54.62\00:14:56.62 Dana: All right. God bless you both. 00:14:56.66\00:14:58.39 So my question is, what do you think about modern praise 00:14:58.43\00:15:03.06 dancing where some churches may have an individual or group, 00:15:03.10\00:15:05.67 mostly females dressed in a long dress of some sort, and then 00:15:05.70\00:15:09.54 they perform different bodily movements to a gospel song? 00:15:09.57\00:15:13.41 What do you think about that form of worship, and is 00:15:13.44\00:15:15.74 it biblical? 00:15:15.78\00:15:17.15 Doug: Well, you're asking, is it biblical? 00:15:17.18\00:15:19.55 There's only three or four examples of dancing. 00:15:19.58\00:15:23.12 Now, the word dance is mentioned more than three or four times, 00:15:23.15\00:15:25.42 but you've got, of course, where David danced before the ark. 00:15:25.45\00:15:28.39 That was not in the temple or on the Sabbath day. 00:15:28.42\00:15:30.89 He's bringing the ark up to the house of God. 00:15:30.93\00:15:33.86 Then you have when the women came out following a victory. 00:15:33.90\00:15:38.10 Like when David and Saul beat the Philistines the women came 00:15:38.13\00:15:40.84 out and sang songs, and that was customary that they'd go out and 00:15:40.87\00:15:44.21 greet and celebrate a victory. 00:15:44.24\00:15:47.04 When Miriam led the women after crossing the Red Sea, because of 00:15:47.08\00:15:50.25 the victory over the Egyptians they would sing. 00:15:50.28\00:15:52.61 The women only danced with women. 00:15:52.65\00:15:54.68 This is not happening in the sanctuary. 00:15:54.72\00:15:57.05 The ones who led out in praise and music in the sanctuary were 00:15:57.09\00:16:00.16 typically the Levites and the sons of Asaph, which were, 00:16:00.19\00:16:04.53 I think, Levites if I'm not mistaken. 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.66 They were the musicians. 00:16:06.70\00:16:08.16 I was reading about that this week in 1 Chronicles, 00:16:08.20\00:16:10.90 I think, 25. 00:16:10.93\00:16:13.37 But I don't see any example of women dancing or recreating 00:16:13.40\00:16:17.77 songs in the temple on the Sabbath. 00:16:17.81\00:16:20.68 Jëan: And the type of dancing, as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, 00:16:20.71\00:16:22.58 is very different even from what we see today in some churches. 00:16:22.61\00:16:26.72 Even today if you go to Israel and you go to the Wailing Wall 00:16:26.75\00:16:29.62 even on Friday evening or on the Sabbath, you'll have two groups. 00:16:29.65\00:16:32.72 You have the men on the one side. 00:16:32.75\00:16:34.09 You have the women on the other side. 00:16:34.12\00:16:35.42 And they usually form a circle and they'll sing and they'll 00:16:35.46\00:16:37.73 move around in a circle. 00:16:37.76\00:16:39.33 That's a little different than having four or five people 00:16:39.36\00:16:41.93 standing on the stage, you know, waving a banner or moving around 00:16:41.96\00:16:45.93 to music with a scarf or something. 00:16:45.97\00:16:47.60 It's total--it was a totally different type of celebration. 00:16:47.64\00:16:51.04 Doug: Yeah. Yeah. 00:16:51.07\00:16:53.07 The focus in Israel at the Wailing Wall--of course, 00:16:53.11\00:16:54.44 that's not even in the temple. 00:16:54.48\00:16:55.78 That's in the wall outside. 00:16:55.81\00:16:57.15 The focus there was really just to welcome the Sabbath, and they 00:16:57.18\00:17:00.75 usually were singing a--some kind of a biblical song. 00:17:00.78\00:17:04.05 It was a--usually repeating some biblical promise or song. 00:17:04.09\00:17:08.36 Yeah, yeah. I've seen this before. 00:17:08.39\00:17:10.39 I know just what you're talking about, and it kind of it--I just 00:17:10.43\00:17:14.10 couldn't picture that happening in the synagogue of Jesus. 00:17:14.13\00:17:19.93 Anyway, thanks. 00:17:19.97\00:17:21.44 I appreciate your question. 00:17:21.47\00:17:22.80 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Junith listening 00:17:22.84\00:17:25.04 in Nevada, and she's asking about Hagar. 00:17:25.07\00:17:27.31 Junith, welcome to the program. 00:17:27.34\00:17:28.88 Junith: Hi. Hello. 00:17:28.91\00:17:31.58 Hello, and good evening to both of you. 00:17:31.61\00:17:33.05 Thanks for taking my call. 00:17:33.08\00:17:34.62 My question is, what could have happened that Hagar and Abraham 00:17:34.65\00:17:41.36 did not have Ishmael? 00:17:41.39\00:17:43.89 Doug: Okay, well, if Ishmael was not in the picture, of course-- 00:17:43.93\00:17:48.33 well, of course, if Sarah did not encourage Abraham to use 00:17:48.36\00:17:52.47 Hagar as a surrogate, I guess it was more than a surrogate, a 00:17:52.50\00:17:56.20 concubine, well then Isaac would have been born and a lot of the 00:17:56.24\00:18:01.61 problems that are in the world today between the descendants of 00:18:01.64\00:18:05.08 Ishmael and the descendants of Isaac would probably not 00:18:05.11\00:18:09.55 be happening. 00:18:09.58\00:18:10.89 If you're asking what if Hagar did not have a child, well then 00:18:10.92\00:18:16.52 again it would probably be a non-event. 00:18:16.56\00:18:18.19 Eventually, Sarah would have. 00:18:18.23\00:18:19.46 So whenever you say what if you start to speculate, and you can 00:18:19.49\00:18:23.13 go wild trying to speculate how God would have orchestrated 00:18:23.16\00:18:26.53 things because you really don't know. 00:18:26.57\00:18:30.01 People say, "What would have happened if Eve ate the fruit 00:18:30.04\00:18:32.54 and Adam didn't?" 00:18:32.57\00:18:34.61 Have you ever heard that one? 00:18:34.64\00:18:36.51 So I don't even try to answer that 'cause you'll lose 00:18:36.54\00:18:40.08 every time. 00:18:40.12\00:18:42.08 Jëan: All right. Well, thank you, Junith. 00:18:42.12\00:18:44.12 We've got Julie in South Dakota. 00:18:44.15\00:18:45.45 She's got a question about the close of probation. 00:18:45.49\00:18:47.66 Julie, welcome to the program. 00:18:47.69\00:18:49.89 Julie: Well, thank you. 00:18:49.92\00:18:51.23 I appreciate you taking my call. 00:18:51.26\00:18:53.56 I was wondering if there's a correlation between the closing 00:18:53.60\00:18:56.80 of probation with God shutting the door to Noah's ark seven 00:18:56.83\00:19:02.37 days prior to the rain. 00:19:02.40\00:19:03.77 'Cause I was thinking maybe like seven years prior to Jesus 00:19:03.81\00:19:08.44 returning that God would, you know, close the door to 00:19:08.48\00:19:11.65 salvation and we can no longer be saved during 00:19:11.68\00:19:14.02 those seven years. 00:19:14.05\00:19:15.92 Doug: Well, is there a correlation? 00:19:15.95\00:19:17.82 There is in the sense that life went on outside the ark for 00:19:17.85\00:19:22.79 a period of time even after their destiny was sealed. 00:19:22.82\00:19:27.66 I don't think the seven days of Noah re--'cause it's not 00:19:27.73\00:19:31.30 a prophecy--are representing seven years. 00:19:31.33\00:19:34.14 For one thing, can you imagine what the world would look like 00:19:34.17\00:19:37.74 after one year of the oceans and fresh water being blood and men 00:19:37.77\00:19:42.54 being scorched with great heat and people suffering with 00:19:42.58\00:19:45.01 a noisome sore? 00:19:45.05\00:19:46.65 I think the time for the seven plagues is going to be more like 00:19:46.68\00:19:49.42 the time of the ten plagues that fell on Egypt. 00:19:49.45\00:19:52.05 When you track that, it probably happened within a period of 00:19:52.09\00:19:55.46 about a month, a month and a half. 00:19:55.49\00:19:58.26 It came in quick order. 00:19:58.29\00:19:59.63 Like the plagues that fell on Job, it seemed like they came 00:19:59.66\00:20:02.26 rather quickly, lasted a few weeks, and--so I don't see the 00:20:02.30\00:20:06.90 seven last plagues when probation closes. 00:20:06.94\00:20:09.17 There's really no purpose in God allowing the world to suffer for 00:20:09.20\00:20:13.64 7 years with the righteous still here surrounded with 00:20:13.68\00:20:17.41 that misery. 00:20:17.45\00:20:18.75 There's no--they can't be lost. 00:20:18.78\00:20:20.52 There's no benefit. 00:20:20.55\00:20:21.88 No one's being converted. 00:20:21.92\00:20:23.22 Jëan: Yeah, we do have a verse on that also: Revelation 00:20:23.25\00:20:24.99 chapter 18, verse 8. 00:20:25.02\00:20:26.32 Easy verse to remember. 00:20:26.35\00:20:27.66 It's talking about the plagues. 00:20:27.69\00:20:29.06 So then we know the plagues come after probation closes. 00:20:29.09\00:20:31.49 It says, "Therefore her plagues," speaking of Babylon, 00:20:31.53\00:20:33.86 "will come in one day--death and mourning and famine. 00:20:33.90\00:20:37.63 And she shall be utterly burned with fire." 00:20:37.67\00:20:39.43 So the Bible seems to indicate that; yes, once probation closes 00:20:39.47\00:20:43.27 and the plagues begin to fall, once the plagues start falling, 00:20:43.30\00:20:47.54 it's about the period of a year. 00:20:47.58\00:20:49.54 And if you look at the makeup of the plagues, like you say, the 00:20:49.58\00:20:53.08 earth probably can't keep going much longer if all of this--you 00:20:53.11\00:20:57.32 know, the plagues are falling and, like you say, the sea is 00:20:57.35\00:20:59.35 turning to blood, the fresh water is turning to blood. 00:20:59.39\00:21:01.46 There's famine, the--intense heat, fires. 00:21:01.49\00:21:04.36 So--all right. Hopefully that helps. 00:21:04.39\00:21:05.69 Doug: Thank you. 00:21:05.73\00:21:07.03 Jëan: Next caller that we have is Wade in Minnesota. 00:21:07.10\00:21:09.80 Wade, welcome to the program. 00:21:09.83\00:21:11.13 You have a question about 2 Thessalonians. 00:21:11.17\00:21:14.77 Wade: Yeah. Thank you. 00:21:14.80\00:21:16.84 Yeah, I'm trying to figure out who the he is in 2 Thessalonians 00:21:16.87\00:21:21.11 2:7 and when that verse will be fulfilled. 00:21:21.14\00:21:25.38 Doug: Yeah, let's read this for our friends that are listening. 00:21:25.41\00:21:28.25 Speaking of, we believe, the Antichrist power, it says, "For 00:21:28.28\00:21:32.35 the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. 00:21:32.39\00:21:35.16 He who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of 00:21:35.19\00:21:39.09 the way." 00:21:39.13\00:21:40.43 So the he is capital H, the Holy Spirit is going to restrain 00:21:40.46\00:21:45.57 the work of the devil, the lawless one. 00:21:45.60\00:21:49.64 So you're wondering about the he there who does the restraining. 00:21:49.67\00:21:53.11 I believe that's the Spirit. 00:21:53.14\00:21:54.44 Is that your understanding? 00:21:54.48\00:21:55.81 Wade: Yes. Doug: Yeah. 00:21:55.84\00:21:57.25 Jëan: Yeah. 00:21:57.28\00:21:58.58 Doug: Yeah, so the Holy Spirit is restraining. 00:21:58.61\00:22:00.28 And you can read in the days of Noah, when wickedness increased 00:22:00.32\00:22:05.39 in the earth God's Spirit was restraining. 00:22:05.42\00:22:07.99 It says, "My Spirit will not always strive with men." 00:22:08.02\00:22:11.93 There'll come a day when once again the Spirit will be 00:22:11.96\00:22:14.30 withdrawn and no longer strive with people and then kind of 00:22:14.36\00:22:18.23 demons have free reign at that point, and it's going to get 00:22:18.27\00:22:21.74 pretty hairy scary on the world at that time. 00:22:21.77\00:22:26.78 Jëan: All right. Doug: Thank you. 00:22:26.81\00:22:28.14 Jëan: Next caller that we have is Ryan in New Mexico. 00:22:28.18\00:22:30.81 Ryan, welcome to the program. 00:22:30.85\00:22:32.75 Ryan: Hello. How are y'all doing today? 00:22:32.78\00:22:34.12 Doug: Doing good. Thank you for calling. 00:22:34.15\00:22:36.15 Ryan: My question is, isn't the 7-day cycle have Babylonian 00:22:36.18\00:22:40.79 roots that started from--it would be sun worship. 00:22:40.82\00:22:43.99 Doug: All right. Well, let's talk about that. 00:22:44.03\00:22:46.26 It is true the Babylonians also recognize a 7-day week. 00:22:46.29\00:22:49.56 Most of the world--well, everyone in the world recognizes 00:22:49.60\00:22:52.50 a 7-day week now. 00:22:52.53\00:22:54.10 The Babylonians, they worshiped the sun on the first day of the 00:22:54.14\00:22:58.87 week, and then Egypt also the sun was the principal god 00:22:58.91\00:23:03.71 of worship. 00:23:03.75\00:23:05.05 With the Greeks and the Romans, it was Apollo, Jupiter. 00:23:05.08\00:23:08.92 So--and that's where you get the word Sunday. 00:23:08.95\00:23:12.05 So in that sense, the Sunday part of the Babylonian worship 00:23:12.09\00:23:16.49 trickled down through other empires. 00:23:16.52\00:23:19.16 And when we were talking about Babylon earlier, not only was 00:23:19.19\00:23:21.70 there a war between Israel and Babylon but you go back to the 00:23:21.73\00:23:24.80 Tower of Babel and, you know, it--you can see two camps 00:23:24.83\00:23:29.50 actually split way back then. 00:23:29.54\00:23:31.51 But the weekly cycle begins in Genesis where God creates the 00:23:31.54\00:23:36.38 world in six days and then He creates another day as a day of 00:23:36.41\00:23:39.65 rest that we call the seventh day and the Sabbath. 00:23:39.68\00:23:43.18 That didn't come from the Babylonians, that--the Bible 00:23:43.22\00:23:45.89 tells us that goes all the way back to the beginning. 00:23:45.92\00:23:48.29 Jëan: And it's not just the sun god that was worshiped, 00:23:48.32\00:23:51.13 you know, for one day during the week. 00:23:51.16\00:23:53.33 Of course, you have Monday, which is connected with the 00:23:53.36\00:23:55.76 moon god. 00:23:55.80\00:23:57.03 And so, you know, all of these pagan traditions and cultures, 00:23:57.07\00:24:00.04 they would look to the heavens and they'd see these different 00:24:00.07\00:24:02.44 planets and they would name them a god and they would worship 00:24:02.47\00:24:04.74 them on a specific day. 00:24:04.77\00:24:06.14 But what's amazing is that they also followed a 7-day week, a 00:24:06.17\00:24:10.31 7-day cycle and there's nothing in the natural realm--you know, 00:24:10.35\00:24:13.78 it's not because the earth is spinning on its, you know, axis 00:24:13.82\00:24:16.79 or it's going around the sun or the moon. 00:24:16.82\00:24:18.62 All of--you know, you talk about years and you've got months 00:24:18.65\00:24:21.86 and you've got days. 00:24:21.89\00:24:23.63 We all--we can see something in nature, but when it comes to the 00:24:23.66\00:24:25.83 7-day week the only evidence for that or the only reason for that 00:24:25.86\00:24:29.26 is back in Genesis chapter 1. 00:24:29.30\00:24:31.77 Doug: Yeah. Absolutely. 00:24:31.80\00:24:33.84 Well, thank you. Appreciate that. 00:24:33.87\00:24:35.50 Maybe we have time for another call before our break. 00:24:35.54\00:24:37.91 Jëan: All right. 00:24:37.94\00:24:39.24 We've got James listening in Texas. 00:24:39.27\00:24:41.01 James, welcome to the program. 00:24:41.04\00:24:43.61 James: Yes, sir. Hi. 00:24:43.65\00:24:44.95 Thank you for taking my call tonight. 00:24:44.98\00:24:47.65 My question is, does God have a sin? 00:24:47.68\00:24:50.99 Like in--I've heard in Exodus chapter 20, verses 3 through 5 00:24:51.02\00:24:55.12 where it does say--or even God com--says Himself that He is 00:24:55.16\00:25:00.23 a jealous God. 00:25:00.26\00:25:02.10 But ain't jealousy a sin? 00:25:02.13\00:25:04.73 Doug: Good. Good question. 00:25:04.77\00:25:06.07 Yeah. God says, "I'm a jealous God." 00:25:06.10\00:25:10.14 And this is an emotion that is appropriate. 00:25:10.17\00:25:12.51 If a man is married, he loves his wife and he feels no 00:25:12.54\00:25:16.81 protection or possessiveness if someone is infringing on their 00:25:16.85\00:25:20.38 relationship, that is unnatural. 00:25:20.42\00:25:22.38 When God says He's a jealous God, it means He loves us and 00:25:22.42\00:25:25.22 He's not willing to share that love with another god 00:25:25.25\00:25:27.92 or an idol. 00:25:27.96\00:25:29.29 That is normal. That is healthy. 00:25:29.32\00:25:31.36 And so some people are obsessed with inappropriate jealousy. 00:25:31.39\00:25:35.50 They're just not trusting their spouse when there's no reason 00:25:35.53\00:25:38.23 for distrust. 00:25:38.27\00:25:39.57 That's inappropriate. 00:25:39.60\00:25:40.94 So we think about a person who's, you know, jealous that 00:25:40.97\00:25:42.60 someone else is prospering. 00:25:42.64\00:25:44.11 That's inappropriate. 00:25:44.14\00:25:45.51 But biblical jealousy that you would have in a love 00:25:45.54\00:25:49.18 relationship is normal and acceptable. 00:25:49.21\00:25:51.78 This is what God is talking about. 00:25:51.81\00:25:53.11 Jëan: Okay. Very good. 00:25:53.15\00:25:54.48 Well, I'm looking at the clock, Pastor Doug. 00:25:54.52\00:25:56.15 We've got 20 seconds before we're going to take a break. 00:25:56.18\00:25:57.85 Of course, the program's not over. 00:25:57.89\00:26:00.26 We just halfway through. 00:26:00.29\00:26:01.86 Doug: The best is yet to come. 00:26:01.89\00:26:03.19 Jëan: That's right. 00:31:02.86\00:31:05.03 Doug: No. 00:31:05.06\00:31:06.29 I think that generally speaking in spiritual matters Paul's not 00:31:06.33\00:31:08.83 saying that, you know, in a marriage there are areas in 00:31:08.86\00:31:12.47 domestic life where women are in charge. 00:31:12.50\00:31:14.87 You know, Karen and I have a good working relationship. 00:31:14.90\00:31:18.87 There are certain things that she does and certain things that 00:31:18.91\00:31:21.21 I do, and she is the chief of certain areas. 00:31:21.24\00:31:25.31 But when it comes to being the priest of the family, spiritual 00:31:25.35\00:31:28.48 leader--and the church is an extension. 00:31:28.52\00:31:30.49 Church is a combination of families. 00:31:30.52\00:31:32.92 Men are to be--are supposed to be the spiritual leaders in 00:31:32.95\00:31:36.69 their households. 00:31:36.73\00:31:38.03 Now, in the case where a woman becomes a believer and she's 00:31:38.06\00:31:40.10 married to an unbeliever, she will need to take the lead on 00:31:40.13\00:31:43.23 teaching the children the Word. 00:31:43.26\00:31:45.30 But in a regular Christian family the man should be taking 00:31:45.33\00:31:50.74 the lead, and you only see men offering sacrifice and 00:31:50.77\00:31:55.81 fulfilling the priestly functions in the Bible. 00:31:55.84\00:31:58.18 So there is a distinction in roles. 00:31:58.21\00:32:00.85 But does that mean a woman can never speak in the church? 00:32:00.88\00:32:03.92 No. 00:32:03.95\00:32:05.29 Because we have examples in the Bible where women did speak. 00:32:05.32\00:32:07.72 But it's talking about having--teaching of 00:32:07.76\00:32:09.39 the authority. 00:32:09.42\00:32:10.73 The final authority was to rest with the men. 00:32:10.76\00:32:12.33 Jëan: Also, if you read on a little further in the chapter, 00:32:12.36\00:32:14.30 Paul talks about having all things done decently and 00:32:14.36\00:32:16.87 in order. 00:32:16.90\00:32:18.23 It appears that there were some issues that were being 00:32:18.27\00:32:20.04 addressed, especially in the church of Corinth where there 00:32:20.07\00:32:22.64 was a little bit of chaos from time to time, it seems, in the 00:32:22.67\00:32:25.21 church where people were talking over other people and there was 00:32:25.24\00:32:27.98 too much noise and perhaps the woman in the group in the church 00:32:28.01\00:32:32.11 were calling down to their men who was sitting in 00:32:32.15\00:32:34.08 a different area. 00:32:34.12\00:32:35.48 And Paul is saying, "No, let's keep reverend. 00:32:35.52\00:32:38.39 Let's do everything decent and in order. 00:32:38.42\00:32:40.32 And, you know, this is not the time to talk back and forth 00:32:40.36\00:32:43.73 during the service." 00:32:43.76\00:32:45.06 Doug: I know it probably surprises people. 00:32:45.09\00:32:46.43 You and I have traveled a lot. 00:32:46.46\00:32:47.76 We've been in churches where--in the Middle East and India the 00:32:47.83\00:32:51.37 men and women do not sit together, and the object 00:32:51.40\00:32:55.00 the--they're figuring, you know, keep your mind pure, so they 00:32:55.04\00:32:58.14 separate them. 00:32:58.17\00:32:59.51 And women in Corinth were maybe calling across the aisle, so to 00:32:59.54\00:33:02.84 speak, or up to the balcony and--asking their husbands 00:33:02.88\00:33:06.95 questions, kind of embarrassing their husbands. 00:33:06.98\00:33:09.02 And Paul said, "Talk at home. 00:33:09.05\00:33:10.85 Don't do that here." 00:33:10.89\00:33:12.85 Jëan: In other words, they were calling down to their husband. 00:33:12.89\00:33:14.66 "Did you hear that? 00:33:14.69\00:33:16.02 Are you listening? 00:33:16.06\00:33:17.36 Pay attention." 00:33:17.39\00:33:18.73 All right, next caller that we have is Amanda in Nebraska. 00:33:18.76\00:33:21.63 Amanda, welcome to the program. 00:33:21.66\00:33:23.73 Amanda: Hello. 00:33:23.77\00:33:25.07 Doug: Hi. Thanks for calling. 00:33:25.10\00:33:27.10 Amanda: Yeah, I just had a question on Leviticus 19:23 00:33:27.14\00:33:28.80 through 25. 00:33:28.84\00:33:30.14 Do you have any idea what that significance could be? 00:33:30.17\00:33:31.94 Doug: Yeah, let me read that for our friends. 00:33:31.97\00:33:33.31 "When you come into the land and you've planted all kinds of 00:33:33.34\00:33:35.98 trees for food, then you shall count their fruit 00:33:36.01\00:33:38.11 as uncircumcised. 00:33:38.15\00:33:39.45 Three years it shall be uncircumcised to you. 00:33:39.48\00:33:41.18 It shall not be eaten. 00:33:41.22\00:33:42.55 But in the fourth year all the fruit shall be holy, 00:33:42.58\00:33:44.99 a praise to the Lord. 00:33:45.02\00:33:46.35 In the fifth year you may eat its fruit and it may yield to 00:33:46.39\00:33:48.92 you its increase. 00:33:48.96\00:33:50.26 I am the Lord Your God." 00:33:50.29\00:33:51.59 That in particular or are you talking about the--I think 00:33:51.63\00:33:54.36 that's the main one you're talking about. 00:33:54.36\00:33:55.70 Is that right, Amanda? 00:33:55.73\00:33:57.53 Amanda: Yeah. 00:33:57.57\00:33:58.87 Doug: Yeah, the--I know that so--yeah, I know that may seem a 00:33:58.90\00:34:02.74 little odd, but they're actually trees that start bearing fruit. 00:34:02.77\00:34:08.51 They--just like a lot of creatures, they have a maturity 00:34:08.54\00:34:12.85 where the fruit will be, I think, the best after a few 00:34:12.88\00:34:16.22 years of bearing. 00:34:16.25\00:34:18.52 If you strip a tree too much when it's young, it also 00:34:18.55\00:34:21.76 can't--might not survive. 00:34:21.79\00:34:23.59 It's almost like it needs to grow a little bit and then 00:34:23.63\00:34:29.06 you're going to have the best fruit. 00:34:29.10\00:34:30.80 There may be a spiritual analogy to that. 00:34:30.83\00:34:33.40 Often, the first fruits belonged to the Lord when it came to 00:34:33.44\00:34:35.97 animals giving birth. 00:34:36.00\00:34:37.51 And so this may have been something where they said, you 00:34:37.54\00:34:40.68 know, "Take the fruit. 00:34:40.71\00:34:42.04 Give it to the creatures." 00:34:42.08\00:34:43.38 But it belongs to the Lord for--the first few years. 00:34:43.41\00:34:45.41 Jëan: And then actually the promise is that it'll produce 00:34:45.45\00:34:47.32 even more fruit. 00:34:47.35\00:34:48.65 And we know that if the plant has a chance to kind of--you 00:34:48.68\00:34:50.85 know, those first few years it's important. 00:34:50.89\00:34:53.02 So there's practical reasons, but also it's a recognition that 00:34:53.05\00:34:55.42 everything comes from God. 00:34:55.46\00:34:56.79 He provides food for us. 00:34:56.83\00:34:58.13 He sustains us. 00:34:58.16\00:34:59.49 So it's dual application, I think. 00:34:59.53\00:35:00.90 Dual meaning there. 00:35:00.93\00:35:02.23 Thank you, Amanda. 00:35:02.26\00:35:03.57 We've got Ellen listening in North Carolina, and she's got 00:35:03.60\00:35:05.37 a question about the second commandment. 00:35:05.40\00:35:07.04 Ellen, welcome to the program. 00:35:07.07\00:35:09.57 Ellen: Oh, hi. 00:35:09.60\00:35:10.94 Thank you so much, pastors, for taking my call. 00:35:10.97\00:35:12.64 I just have to thank you. 00:35:12.67\00:35:14.01 We--my family has learned so much from this program. 00:35:14.04\00:35:16.11 Thank you for this ministry. 00:35:16.14\00:35:17.65 The second commandment, pretty basic and I'm having trouble. 00:35:17.68\00:35:21.72 I know Jesus said, you know, "Remember me." 00:35:21.75\00:35:23.95 And he was a man. 00:35:23.99\00:35:25.42 So--and also with, you know, different teachings and even in 00:35:25.45\00:35:30.46 Sunday school for the children--or Saturday school for 00:35:30.49\00:35:32.99 the children with kids stories and pictures of Jesus, movies of 00:35:33.03\00:35:37.00 Jesus, the Ten Commandments. 00:35:37.03\00:35:38.47 Could you speak about that please in terms of what it says 00:35:38.50\00:35:41.14 in Deuteronomy and the second commandment? 00:35:41.17\00:35:43.67 Doug: Yes, it's in both Deuteronomy and in Exodus where 00:35:43.71\00:35:46.17 you find the Ten Commandments. 00:35:46.21\00:35:47.51 Let me just read it for our friends. 00:35:47.54\00:35:49.14 "You'll not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of 00:35:49.18\00:35:52.15 anything in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, 00:35:52.18\00:35:55.15 or that is in the water under the earth. 00:35:55.18\00:35:56.89 You shall not bow down yourself to them nor serve them. 00:35:56.92\00:36:00.19 For I, the Lord Your God, am a jealous God, visiting the 00:36:00.22\00:36:02.99 iniquity of the fathers on the children unto the third and 00:36:03.02\00:36:05.49 fourth generations of those that hate Me, but showing mercy and 00:36:05.53\00:36:08.90 to thousands of those who love Me and keep My commandments." 00:36:08.93\00:36:12.57 God did not want us making images of anything and 00:36:12.60\00:36:17.71 worshiping it. 00:36:17.74\00:36:19.21 This is not a complete or a comprehensive prohibition about 00:36:19.24\00:36:23.11 making any kind of a likeness of anything by itself. 00:36:23.14\00:36:27.12 It said do not make a likeness and bow down to it. 00:36:27.15\00:36:31.29 Proof for that would be a little later you see in the Bible where 00:36:31.32\00:36:35.46 God instructs Moses to make a bronze serpent of all things. 00:36:35.49\00:36:39.06 Jesus even refers to that. 00:36:39.09\00:36:40.96 They looked at it and they would live. 00:36:40.96\00:36:43.26 They were healed from the venom. 00:36:43.30\00:36:45.00 When Solomon built the temple, he put this great big bronze 00:36:45.03\00:36:48.60 bathtub that held the water for the priest to wash. 00:36:48.64\00:36:52.11 It wasn't for their--them to climb in. 00:36:52.14\00:36:55.31 It was on 12 oxen. 00:36:55.34\00:36:57.25 Now, they weren't to pray to the oxen, and they all knew that. 00:36:57.28\00:36:59.51 It was just ornamental. 00:36:59.55\00:37:01.38 In the sanctuary, God told them that they were to engrave angels 00:37:01.42\00:37:05.12 on the walls of the holy place and in the veil. 00:37:05.15\00:37:08.22 So God wouldn't say, "Don't do this. 00:37:08.26\00:37:11.89 Don't make any kind of a likeness of anything or you'll 00:37:11.93\00:37:15.23 be killed." 00:37:15.26\00:37:16.67 And then say, "Now don't forget to make images of cherubim on 00:37:16.70\00:37:20.24 top of the ark." 00:37:20.27\00:37:21.60 There are two angels on top of the ark. 00:37:21.64\00:37:23.47 The key is we shouldn't pray to these things. 00:37:23.51\00:37:25.81 Now, there is a risk. 00:37:25.84\00:37:27.68 You know, I think whenever we start making representations or 00:37:27.71\00:37:31.28 facsimiles or paintings or statues of Jesus some people 00:37:31.31\00:37:35.28 are, you know, like inclined to pray to those things. 00:37:35.32\00:37:39.19 They think there's some kind of a sacred relic. 00:37:39.22\00:37:41.92 During the time of Hezekiah when the people started burning 00:37:41.96\00:37:44.69 incense to the bronze serpent that somehow had survived all 00:37:44.73\00:37:47.46 those years, he said that's just a piece of brass and he crushed 00:37:47.50\00:37:51.20 it and threw it away just like Moses crushed the golden calf 00:37:51.23\00:37:55.10 and said, "Drink the water. 00:37:55.14\00:37:56.44 Don't worship these things." 00:37:56.47\00:37:58.71 So I don't know if that helps a little bit; but yeah, it's not 00:37:58.74\00:38:05.18 a sin to make a representation of something. 00:38:05.21\00:38:08.48 We need to be careful if people are--I know I'm kind of hemming 00:38:08.52\00:38:16.29 and hawing here because I sure don't want to lead anyone wrong. 00:38:16.32\00:38:18.99 I was with Karen in Russia. 00:38:19.03\00:38:21.50 It's interesting. 00:38:21.53\00:38:22.83 The Catholic Church prays to statues, but in the Orthodox 00:38:22.86\00:38:24.93 Church they pray to paintings. 00:38:24.97\00:38:27.30 And we brought as gifts to Russia paintings from the book 00:38:27.34\00:38:31.94 of Revelation 'cause we were doing a Revelation seminar. 00:38:31.97\00:38:34.91 When the pastors saw that, they kind of rolled their eyes 00:38:34.94\00:38:37.55 thinking, "What's happened to the American church?" 00:38:37.58\00:38:40.18 Because they tell their people--he said, "These folks 00:38:40.22\00:38:42.62 are going to pin that up on the wall and put a candle in front 00:38:42.65\00:38:45.12 of it and they're going to pray to this picture that you've got 00:38:45.15\00:38:48.49 from the book of Revelation." 00:38:48.52\00:38:49.86 And I thought, "Oh, man, I don't want to do anything 00:38:49.89\00:38:51.33 to make anyone stumble." 00:38:51.36\00:38:52.66 So you got to keep that in mind as well. 00:38:52.69\00:38:54.83 You know, a lot of good Christian people might have 00:38:54.83\00:38:56.80 a picture of Jesus at the Last Supper on the wall and they 00:38:56.83\00:38:59.40 don't pray to it, and it--it's not any kind of a relic, it's 00:38:59.43\00:39:03.37 a piece of art. 00:39:03.41\00:39:04.71 So there's a balance there. 00:39:04.74\00:39:06.14 But if you have any doubts, do the safe thing. 00:39:06.17\00:39:08.88 Jëan: Okay, thank you very much. 00:39:08.91\00:39:10.35 Next caller that we have is Paul in Australia, and he has 00:39:10.38\00:39:13.72 a question about John chapter 8, verse 56. 00:39:13.75\00:39:15.85 Paul, welcome to the program. 00:39:15.88\00:39:17.32 Thank you. 00:39:17.35\00:39:18.65 Thank you so much for answering my call. 00:39:18.69\00:39:20.02 My question is John chapter 8, verse 56. 00:39:20.06\00:39:27.13 Jesus said to the Jews, that is Abraham, "Your father Abraham 00:39:27.20\00:39:31.77 will see my day and rejoice." 00:39:31.80\00:39:33.97 So which mean that is Abraham in the heaven or he's not in 00:39:34.00\00:39:38.17 the heaven? 00:39:38.21\00:39:39.51 If in the heaven, why the Bible is not record it? 00:39:39.54\00:39:41.64 And if it's not in the heaven, why did Jesus say that? 00:39:41.68\00:39:45.21 Doug: Yeah, when Jesus said, "Abraham saw my day and he 00:39:45.25\00:39:49.45 rejoiced," your father Abraham rejoiced to see, that means 00:39:49.48\00:39:52.05 he rejoiced looking forward to his day. 00:39:52.09\00:39:54.59 When Abraham took his son up on the mountain and offered his 00:39:54.62\00:39:58.49 only begotten son--he didn't quite complete the offering 00:39:58.53\00:40:01.70 'cause an angel stopped him. 00:40:01.73\00:40:03.67 God, I think, revealed to Abraham, "I am going to give 00:40:03.70\00:40:06.77 My Son." 00:40:06.80\00:40:08.34 And Abraham understood that God so loved the world He would give 00:40:08.37\00:40:12.27 His Son. 00:40:12.31\00:40:13.64 He saw--Abraham then saw on Mount Moriah the day of 00:40:13.68\00:40:18.31 Christ coming. 00:40:18.35\00:40:19.58 He understood what the mission of Christ was and he rejoiced. 00:40:19.61\00:40:22.52 It doesn't mean Abraham was up in heaven looking down and 00:40:22.55\00:40:25.35 rejoicing 'cause Abraham's dead. 00:40:25.39\00:40:28.89 He's sleeping until the Resurrection. 00:40:28.92\00:40:31.83 So it says Abraham slept. 00:40:31.86\00:40:34.73 Jëan: So one might say that Abraham saw it in 00:40:34.73\00:40:36.63 vision perhaps. 00:40:36.67\00:40:38.00 God revealed to him what was yet to come. 00:40:38.03\00:40:41.17 Okay, very good. Well, thank you. 00:40:41.20\00:40:42.50 Thanks, Paul. Hopefully that helps. 00:40:42.54\00:40:43.87 We got Joseph in Florida, and Joseph is asking a question 00:40:43.91\00:40:47.91 about Matthew chapter 18. 00:40:47.94\00:40:49.74 Joseph, welcome to the program. 00:40:49.78\00:40:52.18 Joseph: Hi. Thank you for taking my call. 00:40:52.21\00:40:54.88 The question I had was when Peter had asked Jesus, "How 00:40:54.92\00:40:58.89 many times should I forgive my brother?" 00:40:58.92\00:41:02.46 and he said up to seven times thinking that that was, you 00:41:02.49\00:41:05.83 know, the limit or the ultimate, and Jesus referred no, 00:41:05.86\00:41:11.77 7 times 70. 00:41:11.80\00:41:13.37 That--was he reflecting to the 70-week prophecy, the 490-day 00:41:13.40\00:41:18.11 year prophecy of Daniel 9:24 that God had allotted to the 00:41:18.14\00:41:22.58 Jewish nation to repent? 00:41:22.61\00:41:25.35 Doug: You know, that's very perceptive because Daniel in 00:41:25.38\00:41:28.35 chapter 9 is praying, and God had been so merciful with 00:41:28.38\00:41:31.45 the nation. 00:41:31.49\00:41:32.79 He's wondering, "How long, you know, will You bear with 00:41:32.82\00:41:35.82 Your people?" 00:41:35.86\00:41:37.19 Because he--God answers and says 70 weeks are cut off for 00:41:37.23\00:41:40.93 the nation. 00:41:40.96\00:41:42.26 There would be 70 times 7, 490 years of mercy now. 00:41:42.30\00:41:48.27 And you find seven is often associated with forgiveness. 00:41:48.30\00:41:51.77 It says God cast seven devils out of Mary Magdalene. 00:41:51.81\00:41:55.28 A righteous man falls seven times and rises again. 00:41:55.31\00:41:59.28 Job says, "He will deliver me in six times. 00:41:59.31\00:42:02.15 Yes, seven. No evil will befall me." 00:42:02.18\00:42:04.52 So the number seven is often associated with perfect 00:42:04.55\00:42:07.39 forgiveness, which is probably why Peter said seven times. 00:42:07.42\00:42:11.36 But Jesus said, "No, 70 times 7." 00:42:11.39\00:42:14.00 Now, God is not in heaven with a ledger that is counting how many 00:42:14.00\00:42:17.90 times you sin because all of us listening probably would have 00:42:17.93\00:42:21.10 used up our 490 times a long time ago. 00:42:21.14\00:42:24.17 He's basically saying that as long as we're willing to 00:42:24.21\00:42:27.51 genuinely repent He will forgive. 00:42:27.54\00:42:31.38 So, yeah, beautiful thought. 00:42:31.41\00:42:33.62 But I do think there's kind of an illusion there he's making. 00:42:33.65\00:42:36.38 Jëan: That's right. 00:42:36.42\00:42:37.72 Sort of there is a probationary time coming. 00:42:37.75\00:42:39.75 Forgiveness does end at some point. 00:42:39.79\00:42:41.79 All right, thank you. 00:42:41.82\00:42:43.16 We've got Chelsea in Florida. 00:42:43.19\00:42:44.49 Chelsea, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:42:44.53\00:42:48.13 Chelsea: Hi, good evening. How are you both? 00:42:48.16\00:42:50.50 Doug: Good. 00:42:50.53\00:42:52.87 Chelsea: So my question is, how do I explain to other Christians 00:42:52.90\00:42:55.57 of different denominational backgrounds basically the 00:42:55.60\00:42:58.74 importance of studying biblical doctrines, like the truth about 00:42:58.77\00:43:01.88 hell, the Second Coming? 00:43:01.91\00:43:04.25 And also, if they've never been exposed to like the three-angels 00:43:04.28\00:43:07.45 message and the truth and revelation--like, for example, 00:43:07.48\00:43:11.79 I guess we're setting the truth about hell fire and then like 00:43:11.82\00:43:15.66 maybe if someone says, "Well, these details don't 00:43:15.69\00:43:18.19 really matter. 00:43:18.23\00:43:19.56 It just matters if we all believe in Jesus Christ and that 00:43:19.59\00:43:23.03 he's our Savior and that's it. 00:43:23.06\00:43:24.47 We don't have to really study the details." 00:43:24.50\00:43:27.14 So how do I explain the importance of these doctrines 00:43:27.17\00:43:30.57 to them? 00:43:30.61\00:43:31.91 Doug: Well, that's a great question. 00:43:31.94\00:43:33.27 And I was exercising my mind about that just last week in 00:43:33.31\00:43:37.98 visiting with some friends. 00:43:38.01\00:43:41.32 And yeah, a lot of Christians will say, "Well, as long as we 00:43:41.35\00:43:45.25 love the Lord--" And it is true that love for God is premier, 00:43:45.29\00:43:48.86 and there are going to be Christians from many faiths 00:43:48.89\00:43:51.06 in heaven. 00:43:51.09\00:43:52.39 But understanding doctrine affects our picture of God. 00:43:52.43\00:43:55.63 For example, the unbiblical teaching that the wicked burn 00:43:55.66\00:44:01.07 through ceaseless ages for the sins of one lifetime it distorts 00:44:01.10\00:44:05.71 the picture of God and makes Him look like He's unjust and He 00:44:05.74\00:44:08.68 enjoys watching His creatures suffer. 00:44:08.71\00:44:10.91 There is a hell and there is a punishment. 00:44:10.95\00:44:12.81 People need to understand that. 00:44:12.85\00:44:14.42 But the idea that zillions of years go by and they've never 00:44:14.45\00:44:17.72 even begun burning is just a horrific thought when you think 00:44:17.75\00:44:21.72 about it, and the Bible doesn't teach that. 00:44:21.76\00:44:24.16 So understanding the truth about that doctrine actually sets 00:44:24.19\00:44:28.63 you free. 00:44:28.66\00:44:29.96 Jesus said the truth will set you free. 00:44:30.00\00:44:31.77 So I would tell people that misunderstanding the particulars 00:44:31.80\00:44:37.84 changes their ability to love God. 00:44:37.87\00:44:40.08 They can love Him more when they understand the truth. 00:44:40.11\00:44:43.78 Jëan: And then also I think it's important for us to realize that 00:44:43.81\00:44:46.85 as we near the end of time the truths that have been revealed 00:44:46.88\00:44:50.09 in Scripture and especially in prophecy are extremely important 00:44:50.12\00:44:53.86 to help us so we are not deceived. 00:44:53.89\00:44:56.46 Because the Jesus said in the last days there will be many 00:44:56.49\00:44:59.66 false prophets and many false christs and they deceive many. 00:44:59.69\00:45:03.77 So we need to test everything by the Word of God. 00:45:03.80\00:45:05.77 And so understanding these important truths will be 00:45:05.80\00:45:07.84 a safeguard to help us in the last days in particular. 00:45:07.87\00:45:11.44 For example, before Jesus came the first time, people had 00:45:11.47\00:45:14.51 different ideas. 00:45:14.54\00:45:15.78 But if you didn't understand the nature of Christ's first coming, 00:45:15.81\00:45:19.51 meaning that he was going to come as a Savior and you thought 00:45:19.55\00:45:21.65 he was going to come as a conquering king; if you 00:45:21.68\00:45:23.95 misunderstood how Christ was going to come, you very likely 00:45:23.99\00:45:28.29 would reject him. 00:45:28.32\00:45:29.66 So at the last days, you know, understanding how Jesus will 00:45:29.69\00:45:33.40 come and the scenes connected with that becomes very important 00:45:33.43\00:45:36.77 because we don't want to be set up by the devil impersonating 00:45:36.80\00:45:41.17 the Second Coming of Jesus. 00:45:41.20\00:45:42.50 Doug: Good point. Yeah. 00:45:42.54\00:45:43.87 The person of not knowing the truth about that doctrine 00:45:43.91\00:45:45.91 can set them up for a major deception. 00:45:45.94\00:45:48.24 Hope that helps. 00:45:48.28\00:45:49.61 Thank you, Chelsea. A good, good point. 00:45:49.64\00:45:51.65 Jëan: All right. We've got Jordan in Georgia. 00:45:51.68\00:45:54.02 Jordan, welcome to the program. 00:45:54.05\00:45:56.45 Jordan: I just had a question on how do I study the Bible and, 00:45:56.48\00:46:00.66 like, take notes and stuff like that. 00:46:00.69\00:46:02.56 Doug: That's--well, that's a good question. 00:46:02.59\00:46:04.36 Everyone does it a little different. 00:46:04.39\00:46:07.23 I know Karen when she's listening to a sermon she's got 00:46:07.30\00:46:09.83 a separate pad. 00:46:09.86\00:46:11.20 She takes notes and she sticks them in her Bible and her Bible 00:46:11.23\00:46:13.70 ends up being twice its original size 'cause she's inserting 00:46:13.74\00:46:16.44 papers all the time. 00:46:16.47\00:46:18.84 Some people when they're studying the Bible--I have 00:46:18.87\00:46:21.91 a color-coded--it's like a pencil that's got three or four 00:46:21.94\00:46:25.45 different colored crayons in it that I can click down and I 00:46:25.48\00:46:29.35 underline, and the different colors mean different things. 00:46:29.38\00:46:31.82 So as I'm preaching it helps me highlight. 00:46:31.85\00:46:34.22 And then I take a pencil and I write in the margin a few words. 00:46:34.26\00:46:38.19 So that helps me in my Bible study. 00:46:38.23\00:46:40.33 We use Bible software. 00:46:40.36\00:46:42.50 I use a program called Logos where I can actually make notes 00:46:42.53\00:46:46.77 in the software that will reappear later. 00:46:46.80\00:46:48.97 So I save my notes, and you can copy them and back them up so 00:46:49.00\00:46:52.07 you don't ever lose them. 00:46:52.11\00:46:53.41 And--so some people now are transferring a lot of their 00:46:53.44\00:46:56.78 study to digital notes in Bible study, and that's 00:46:56.81\00:47:01.55 actually--computers have accelerated my study ability 100 00:47:01.58\00:47:04.79 times from when I started. 00:47:04.82\00:47:06.76 Jëan: You know, I've got a whole bunch of stuff on my computer, 00:47:06.79\00:47:08.82 but the most important file that I've got on my computer are all 00:47:08.86\00:47:12.63 of the sermon notes and the study notes over the years. 00:47:12.66\00:47:15.40 I'll make sure I backed that up on the cloud because I don't 00:47:15.43\00:47:17.53 want to lose that. 00:47:17.57\00:47:18.90 I like to study, and I like to do cross reference. 00:47:18.93\00:47:21.04 I like to read commentaries on the different verses and then 00:47:21.07\00:47:23.87 kind of condense it down to central thought of what's the 00:47:23.91\00:47:27.01 takeaway from that verse, so to speak. 00:47:27.04\00:47:29.08 And then I like to keep that together. 00:47:29.11\00:47:30.58 So find something that works and it'll enhance your Bible study. 00:47:30.61\00:47:35.05 Doug: Yeah. Some people take more notes. 00:47:35.08\00:47:37.75 Some people actually use a recorder. 00:47:37.79\00:47:39.39 When I'm driving down the road I have a tape recorder, 00:47:39.42\00:47:42.29 an old-fashioned little handheld tape recorder, and I record 00:47:42.32\00:47:46.46 thoughts that come to me because I know I'll forget by the time 00:47:46.49\00:47:49.40 I get home. 00:47:49.43\00:47:51.10 Jëan: All right. Thank you. 00:47:51.13\00:47:52.47 Next caller that we have is Cindy, and she is listening 00:47:52.50\00:47:55.14 in Florida. 00:47:55.17\00:47:56.50 Cindy, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:47:56.54\00:47:58.64 Cindy: Thank you, pastors. 00:47:58.67\00:48:00.08 I appreciate your ministry. 00:48:00.11\00:48:01.91 I've been watching Pastor Ross on my YouTube on "Sabbath 00:48:01.94\00:48:07.22 School" on Daniel and "Pinnacles of Prophecy." 00:48:07.25\00:48:09.68 I watched doctor--doctor--Pastor Batchelor. 00:48:09.72\00:48:14.66 So my question in general is regarding Daniel and Revelation. 00:48:14.69\00:48:20.03 Why did Christ in prophecy use like animals, the rams, the 00:48:20.06\00:48:27.37 goats, the bear, the earth water, all those? 00:48:27.40\00:48:33.07 Doug: Right, the different symbols. 00:48:33.11\00:48:34.64 Well, two things. 00:48:34.68\00:48:36.04 One, he uses the symbols because most of the apocalyptic 00:48:36.08\00:48:40.48 prophecies were written while God's people were captive 00:48:40.52\00:48:43.79 with--under another nation. 00:48:43.82\00:48:45.69 You had--for instance, Babylon had occupied the Jews when 00:48:45.72\00:48:51.16 Daniel had his prophecies, and some of the prophecies talk 00:48:51.19\00:48:53.90 about the fall of Babylon. 00:48:53.93\00:48:55.20 So those sym--those things are couched in symbols. 00:48:55.23\00:48:58.90 Babylon's a lion, for example. 00:48:58.93\00:49:00.87 By the way, when they excavated Babylon, they found lions with 00:49:00.90\00:49:03.87 wings on the walls, which is what they saw in vision. 00:49:03.91\00:49:07.94 Then another thing to keep in mind is the Israelites 00:49:07.98\00:49:10.88 were shepherds. 00:49:10.91\00:49:12.58 It was a nation of shepherds to begin with. 00:49:12.61\00:49:15.38 So when it's talking about the sheep and the goat that are 00:49:15.42\00:49:19.89 fighting, those are clean animals. 00:49:19.92\00:49:21.82 Then you get to the bear, the leopard, the lion, those are 00:49:21.86\00:49:24.19 unclean animals. 00:49:24.23\00:49:25.53 There's actually meaning there as well. 00:49:25.56\00:49:27.96 So, you know, these common animals were used as symbols 00:49:27.96\00:49:34.90 and--you know, in the Bible, a lamb, of course a type 00:49:34.94\00:49:38.54 of Christ. 00:49:38.57\00:49:39.87 Water represented a multitude of people. 00:49:39.91\00:49:41.24 Stormy waters represented times of trouble. 00:49:41.28\00:49:44.35 These symbols are given other places. 00:49:44.38\00:49:47.08 Jesus said that, "I speak to you in parables that though the wise 00:49:47.12\00:49:50.65 will understand." 00:49:50.69\00:49:51.99 He wants us to dig a little bit. 00:49:52.02\00:49:53.56 Jëan: And of course some of the things that are revealed in 00:49:53.59\00:49:55.29 prophecy really have to do with kingdoms that were in power at 00:49:55.32\00:49:58.59 the time. 00:49:58.63\00:49:59.93 So, for example, if you go to the 1st century early Christian 00:49:59.96\00:50:03.20 church, there are things revealed in Bible prophecy that 00:50:03.23\00:50:07.07 probably those who were in power had they clearly understood it 00:50:07.10\00:50:11.84 it might have brought even more persecution. 00:50:11.87\00:50:14.28 So it was couched in symbolism that the wise would understand 00:50:14.31\00:50:17.65 it, those who are studying. 00:50:17.68\00:50:18.98 But those who shouldn't know about it didn't understand it, 00:50:19.01\00:50:22.28 and that was true all through the middle ages to the 00:50:22.32\00:50:24.52 dark ages. 00:50:24.55\00:50:26.39 Doug: Okay. Hope that helps a little. 00:50:26.42\00:50:29.09 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is--let's see. 00:50:29.12\00:50:30.79 We've got Janet in California. Janet, welcome to the program. 00:50:30.83\00:50:34.46 Janet: Hi, yeah, my question is, 00:50:34.50\00:50:36.80 so, if you're saved and when you die you go to 00:50:36.83\00:50:40.67 heaven and--when people die, a lot of people say that, "Okay, 00:50:40.70\00:50:43.91 they're in heaven now and they're with other loved ones 00:50:43.94\00:50:46.14 or friends," or whatever. 00:50:46.17\00:50:47.71 And in the Bible when it talks about Jesus going back for his 00:50:47.74\00:50:50.08 people, it says how the dead will go and then the living. 00:50:50.11\00:50:55.25 So where are you really when you're dead? 00:50:55.28\00:50:57.59 Doug: Yeah. Well, you're very perceptive. 00:50:57.62\00:51:00.36 It's--a lot of misunderstandings about this. 00:51:00.39\00:51:02.09 You know, you read that passage in 2 Corinthians where it says 00:51:02.12\00:51:04.86 "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." 00:51:04.89\00:51:07.86 And for a believer, your next conscious thought when you die 00:51:07.86\00:51:12.10 is the Resurrection, but it hasn't happened yet. 00:51:12.13\00:51:15.07 So the dead are not up there now roaming around looking 00:51:15.10\00:51:17.84 down on us. 00:51:17.87\00:51:19.17 The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes chapter 9, 00:51:19.21\00:51:22.14 the living know they'll die. 00:51:22.18\00:51:23.51 The dead don't know anything. 00:51:23.55\00:51:25.25 David says in Psalms the dead do not praise the Lord. 00:51:25.28\00:51:29.15 Hezekiah repeats something similar. 00:51:29.18\00:51:31.42 The--Jesus said, "Our friend Lazarus is asleep." 00:51:31.45\00:51:35.49 So when a person dies, they are sleeping a dreamless sleep with 00:51:35.52\00:51:39.59 no consciousness of time. 00:51:39.63\00:51:41.83 So for them the next conscious thought if they're saved is the 00:51:41.86\00:51:45.73 Second Coming. 00:51:45.77\00:51:47.07 The trumpet blows. They come out of the graves. 00:51:47.10\00:51:49.10 Right now they are resting in peace. 00:51:49.14\00:51:51.27 That's why you get that on the tombstones that used to say 00:51:51.31\00:51:54.58 R-I-P, RIP, resting in peace. 00:51:54.61\00:51:56.44 So until the Resurrection, the Judgment hasn't happened yet. 00:51:56.48\00:52:00.72 So for the Lord to take people and put them in heaven or hell 00:52:00.75\00:52:03.59 before the Resurrection and before the Judgment and then 00:52:03.62\00:52:06.15 pull them out again to judge them wouldn't make any sense. 00:52:06.19\00:52:09.66 What confuses people is they forget that God lives outside 00:52:09.69\00:52:13.16 of time. 00:52:13.19\00:52:14.50 For us in this world, the Resurrection hasn't happened. 00:52:14.56\00:52:17.43 People are asleep. 00:52:17.47\00:52:18.90 The Bible says those that are in their graves will hear his voice 00:52:18.93\00:52:22.57 and come forth. 00:52:22.60\00:52:23.91 Where are they? 00:52:23.94\00:52:25.27 They're in their graves until the Resurrection. 00:52:25.31\00:52:27.31 So we have a study guide. 00:52:27.34\00:52:28.58 We can send a free copy of that to Janet and anyone who wants to 00:52:28.61\00:52:32.35 know about that subject. 00:52:32.38\00:52:33.65 Jëan: Yeah, just call the number 800-835-6747 and you can ask for 00:52:33.68\00:52:38.85 the study guide. 00:52:38.89\00:52:40.22 It's called "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:52:40.26\00:52:41.76 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:52:41.79\00:52:44.23 That's 800-835-6747. 00:52:44.26\00:52:47.03 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone, say Bible answers 00:52:47.10\00:52:50.83 live, ask for the study guide "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:52:50.87\00:52:53.90 And we can send it to you digitally. 00:52:53.94\00:52:55.97 So you'll be able to read it right along. 00:52:56.00\00:52:58.01 We also have a website called deathtruth.com that's filled 00:52:58.04\00:53:01.71 with a lot of great studies and resources and sermons. 00:53:01.74\00:53:04.48 So take a look at that. 00:53:04.51\00:53:06.05 All right. Thank you. 00:53:06.08\00:53:07.75 Do we have Patty on the line, Patty in Idaho? 00:53:07.78\00:53:12.39 Patty: Hi. Hi, pastors. 00:53:12.42\00:53:15.09 Doug: Hi. How are you? 00:53:15.12\00:53:17.79 Patty: Good. Good. 00:53:17.83\00:53:19.16 I have a question. 00:53:19.19\00:53:20.50 I think I'm really trying to gain some better understanding 00:53:20.53\00:53:21.83 of God's character, my question. 00:53:21.86\00:53:24.50 But Revelation 7--or 1:7 says, "He is coming with the clouds. 00:53:24.53\00:53:28.44 Every eye will see him, even those who pierced him." 00:53:28.47\00:53:32.21 And so my question is, is it--I guess I operate under the idea 00:53:32.24\00:53:36.08 that those who pierced him are not saved. 00:53:36.11\00:53:38.51 So they should be a part of the second resurrection after 00:53:38.55\00:53:41.52 the Millennium. 00:53:41.55\00:53:42.85 But he does a special--or what seems to me a special 00:53:42.88\00:53:45.39 resurrection for those. 00:53:45.42\00:53:47.22 Which I know God's character is perfect, but me as a human when 00:53:47.26\00:53:51.73 I read this I can't help but think it's boastful. 00:53:51.76\00:53:55.40 Doug: Yeah. 00:53:55.43\00:53:56.73 Well, I do believe that when the Lord comes there is 00:53:56.77\00:54:00.37 a special resurrection. 00:54:00.40\00:54:01.74 Jesus said at his trial to the high priest, "Hereafter, you 00:54:01.77\00:54:05.01 will see the Son of man coming in the clouds of glory on the 00:54:05.04\00:54:07.91 right hand of power." 00:54:07.94\00:54:09.18 So there will be some who are raised that actually see that, 00:54:09.21\00:54:13.52 and it's like a special resurrection. 00:54:13.55\00:54:15.48 It's an exception. 00:54:15.52\00:54:16.99 Jëan: But it's also just in response to the demand. 00:54:17.02\00:54:19.29 They wanted evidence. 00:54:19.32\00:54:20.69 They said, "Are you the Christ?" 00:54:20.72\00:54:22.39 And they kept pushing him. 00:54:22.42\00:54:23.76 And finally Jesus said, "Well, if you want evidence, 00:54:23.79\00:54:25.16 you'll get it. 00:54:25.19\00:54:26.53 You'll see me coming in the clouds of glory." 00:54:26.56\00:54:27.86 Doug: Yes. Absolutely. 00:54:27.86\00:54:31.20 You know, Pastor Ross, we don't have time to run another 00:54:31.23\00:54:33.40 question before we take our break. 00:54:33.44\00:54:35.54 Some people may not know that we take the break in 00:54:35.57\00:54:38.51 two sections here. 00:54:38.54\00:54:39.87 We have some who are listening on satellite radio and they sign 00:54:39.91\00:54:43.04 off on a different clock than those who are on 00:54:43.08\00:54:44.85 land-based stations. 00:54:44.88\00:54:46.21 For those who are on the land-based stations, if you stay 00:54:46.25\00:54:49.02 by we're going to take a few moments and go through some 00:54:49.05\00:54:51.62 rapid fire Bible questions that come in on the internet. 00:54:51.65\00:54:55.96 And if you have those questions, we're going to tell you how to 00:54:55.99\00:54:58.83 send them in in just a moment. 00:54:58.86\00:55:00.60 For the rest of you, God bless. 00:55:00.63\00:55:02.16 If you've not made your decision to make Jesus Lord of your life, 00:55:02.20\00:55:05.53 do that now. 00:55:05.57\00:55:06.87 We'll be back. 00:55:06.90\00:55:09.14 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:11.21\00:55:13.88 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:13.91\00:55:17.45 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:17.48\00:55:21.75 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:21.78\00:55:27.42 Jëan: Hello, friends. 00:55:27.46\00:55:28.79 Welcome back to "Bible Answers Live," those of you who are able 00:55:28.82\00:55:30.89 to stay by for our email questions. 00:55:30.93\00:55:32.76 If you'd like to send us a question via email, the email 00:55:32.79\00:55:35.70 address is just simply 00:55:35.73\00:55:37.07 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org, BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:37.10\00:55:43.51 Pastor Doug, first question tonight, "Why do we wear shoes 00:55:43.54\00:55:46.31 in church if being in the presence of God is on 00:55:46.34\00:55:49.01 holy ground?" 00:55:49.04\00:55:50.91 Doug: Well, there are a few exceptions in the Bible when it 00:55:50.95\00:55:53.45 tells us that God told Joshua and He told Moses, "Take your 00:55:53.48\00:55:57.72 shoes off. 00:55:57.75\00:55:59.09 You're on holy ground." 00:55:59.12\00:56:00.49 They were in the physical presence of the Christ and God's 00:56:00.52\00:56:05.83 glory at that time. 00:56:05.86\00:56:08.76 It doesn't tell us that the Levites were to take their shoes 00:56:08.80\00:56:11.20 off when they went into the temple, and, you know, they were 00:56:11.23\00:56:14.10 ministering for the Lord. 00:56:14.14\00:56:15.57 So the high priest may have done that when he went in on the 00:56:15.60\00:56:18.77 holy days, on the--what do you call it? 00:56:18.81\00:56:20.24 The Day of Atonement. 00:56:20.28\00:56:21.61 But I think on day to day they were, you know, busy butchering 00:56:21.64\00:56:25.05 animals and stuff. 00:56:25.08\00:56:26.41 Some countries do. 00:56:26.45\00:56:27.75 If that's the custom for respect, I'd say do whatever 00:56:27.78\00:56:30.49 they do. 00:56:30.52\00:56:31.85 You and I were at a church in India that had over 100,000 00:56:31.89\00:56:35.46 members and several services. 00:56:35.49\00:56:37.19 They all took off their shoes before they came in. 00:56:37.23\00:56:39.96 It was really--and they managed--most of them got their 00:56:40.00\00:56:41.73 shoes back after the service. 00:56:41.76\00:56:43.97 So I'd say whatever--do whatever is respectful. 00:56:44.00\00:56:46.57 Jëan: Okay, another question that we have, "Can you explain 00:56:46.60\00:56:49.44 the rapture of the church?" 00:56:49.47\00:56:51.21 Doug: Yeah, well, the--God is not going to rapture the church 00:56:51.24\00:56:55.58 separately from when He raptures the saints. 00:56:55.61\00:56:58.51 Some people think that from Revelation chapter 4 on is--the 00:56:58.55\00:57:03.22 church goes to heaven when it says, "I saw a door open 00:57:03.25\00:57:05.79 in heaven." 00:57:05.82\00:57:07.16 I respectfully disagree. 00:57:07.19\00:57:08.49 I don't think that's what is happening there in Revelation 00:57:08.52\00:57:09.99 chapter 4. 00:57:10.03\00:57:11.49 Several things in Revelation, after chapter 4, 00:57:11.53\00:57:13.73 describe the church in the world. 00:57:13.76\00:57:15.70 It's not just talking about Israel. 00:57:15.73\00:57:17.57 And so the idea that the church is going to be raptured and 00:57:17.60\00:57:21.04 saved from tribulation, that's a pleasant thought. 00:57:21.07\00:57:24.44 But my Bible says he that endures to the end will be saved 00:57:24.47\00:57:28.94 and that God's people are going to be saved through tribulation, 00:57:28.98\00:57:32.61 not from tribulation. 00:57:32.65\00:57:34.42 And I think we even have a book on that. 00:57:34.45\00:57:35.78 If they read "Anything But Secret." 00:57:35.82\00:57:37.82 You can ask for a free copy of "Anything But Secret," and that 00:57:37.85\00:57:41.49 will explain that subject. 00:57:41.52\00:57:42.82 Jëan: All right, last question. 00:57:42.86\00:57:44.19 "Do you think Judas Iscariot would have been forgiven if he 00:57:44.23\00:57:46.33 repented after the Resurrection?" 00:57:46.36\00:57:49.26 Doug: Well, of course he killed himself before the Resurrection. 00:57:49.30\00:57:51.93 But I think if he had sincerely repented, Jesus would have 00:57:51.97\00:57:55.34 forgived him. 00:57:55.37\00:57:56.71 But he had grieved away the Holy Spirit 00:57:56.74\00:57:58.41 there in the Upper Room. 00:57:58.44\00:57:59.77 He kind of had his last chance when Jesus offered to wash his 00:57:59.81\00:58:02.54 feet, and the Bible says that Satan entered him. 00:58:02.58\00:58:05.41 He went out, and it was night. 00:58:05.45\00:58:07.45 Friends, don't let that happen to you. 00:58:07.48\00:58:09.58 And God willing we're going to be studying His Word 00:58:09.62\00:58:11.42 again next week. 00:58:11.45\00:58:12.75 Keep Jesus first in your life, and we'll get together. 00:58:12.79\00:58:15.46 And go to amazingfacts.org. 00:58:15.49\00:58:19.29 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate answers 00:58:19.33\00:58:23.06 to your Bible questions. 00:58:23.10\00:58:25.13
