male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.06\00:00:05.60 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, and its 00:00:05.70\00:00:10.04 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, should 00:00:10.17\00:00:14.01 always be studied carefully. 00:00:14.04\00:00:16.38 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.41\00:00:19.65 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:19.68\00:00:24.62 answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.65\00:00:28.22 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.26\00:00:31.13 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.16\00:00:34.00 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:34.00\00:00:38.83 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.87\00:00:43.91 Now, here's your host from "Amazing Facts International," 00:00:43.94\00:00:47.84 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.88\00:00:50.08 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends. 00:00:50.11\00:00:51.58 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.61\00:00:54.88 The largest known meteorite on earth is the Hoba 00:00:54.92\00:00:58.72 in Namibia, Africa. 00:00:58.75\00:01:00.42 The space rock was discovered by chance in 1920 when a farmer 00:01:00.46\00:01:04.69 plowing his field with an ox struck the metallic sounding 00:01:04.73\00:01:07.96 object with his plow. 00:01:08.00\00:01:09.80 Curious, he removed the topsoil to discover a massive iron rock 00:01:09.83\00:01:14.57 9 feet across. 00:01:14.60\00:01:16.40 Although excavated and declared to be a national monument, the 00:01:16.44\00:01:20.78 66-ton rectangular meteorite has never been moved from the spot 00:01:20.81\00:01:24.51 where it landed because of its immense weight, 132,000 pounds, 00:01:24.55\00:01:28.92 its durability, and remote sight. 00:01:28.95\00:01:31.79 This fantastic treasure still remains outdoors, unmoved, in 00:01:31.82\00:01:35.72 its original location. 00:01:35.76\00:01:37.59 And then you got a picture on the screen for those that are 00:01:37.63\00:01:39.49 watching the video right now. 00:01:39.53\00:01:41.26 That's where it landed. 00:01:41.30\00:01:42.63 That's where it was found. 00:01:42.66\00:01:43.97 Too big to move. 00:01:44.00\00:01:46.00 It's out there in the open, withstands the elements, makes 00:01:46.03\00:01:49.80 me think of another immovable rock. 00:01:49.84\00:01:53.17 Jean Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:01:53.21\00:01:54.64 I mean, it's incredible. That's a big meteor. 00:01:54.68\00:01:56.21 We were just talking before the show. 00:01:56.24\00:01:57.88 You'd think something that big would have created a massive 00:01:57.91\00:02:00.28 crater, but a little bit of the research you did, they think 00:02:00.32\00:02:04.12 maybe it kind of bounced or skipped or maybe hit water prior 00:02:04.15\00:02:08.06 to landing in that spot. 00:02:08.09\00:02:09.39 Doug: Yeah. 00:02:09.42\00:02:10.76 Well, it hit the atmosphere they think at an angle, which is part 00:02:10.79\00:02:12.93 of the reason it didn't all burn up, and then it, instead of 00:02:12.96\00:02:16.93 coming down, it kind of skipped along the earth or something. 00:02:16.97\00:02:20.40 And it was only covered by the topsoil that would have happened 00:02:20.44\00:02:26.44 through accumulation, which wasn't very deep. 00:02:26.47\00:02:29.21 But makes me think about a prophecy in the Bible of another 00:02:29.24\00:02:32.51 stone that flies through the heavens. 00:02:32.55\00:02:35.08 That is another durable stone. 00:02:35.12\00:02:37.82 And you can read about this, friends, in Daniel 2, verse 34 00:02:37.85\00:02:41.19 and 35. 00:02:41.22\00:02:42.46 Daniel is explaining this vision to Nebuchadnezzar: "You watched 00:02:42.49\00:02:45.99 while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the 00:02:46.03\00:02:49.73 image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 00:02:49.76\00:02:54.14 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold 00:02:54.17\00:02:57.24 were crushed together, and became like chaff from the 00:02:57.27\00:03:00.41 summer threshing floors. 00:03:00.44\00:03:01.91 The wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. 00:03:01.94\00:03:05.51 And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain 00:03:05.55\00:03:08.92 and filled the whole earth," talks about this stone that is a 00:03:08.95\00:03:14.39 symbol of Christ and His kingdom coming to pulverize all of the 00:03:14.42\00:03:18.89 pagan kingdoms of the world. 00:03:18.93\00:03:20.80 That stone. 00:03:20.83\00:03:22.10 It's interesting. 00:03:22.13\00:03:23.47 Says, "A stone," Pastor Ross, "cut without hands" because in 00:03:23.50\00:03:25.80 the Law of Moses, and you and I are reading--we're on the same 00:03:25.83\00:03:29.00 Bible reading program right now, said, "If you make an altar, do 00:03:29.04\00:03:32.07 not lift your tool up upon it." 00:03:32.11\00:03:34.21 Because if they were tempted to carve on it with man's hands, 00:03:34.24\00:03:37.31 then it turned into an idol pretty soon. 00:03:37.35\00:03:39.71 And they were to take basic stone, and so this stone 00:03:39.75\00:03:44.89 represents Christ in His kingdom. 00:03:44.92\00:03:46.82 Jesus said, "These words that I speak, wise men builds on 00:03:46.86\00:03:51.39 the rock." 00:03:51.43\00:03:52.73 Ten Commandments were written on a rock, another symbol of 00:03:52.76\00:03:55.93 something that is immovable and enduring. 00:03:55.96\00:03:59.07 That's why I thought of this Hoba a meteorite. 00:03:59.10\00:04:00.90 By the way, the word "hoba" means "a gift" we learned in the 00:04:00.94\00:04:03.71 local native language. 00:04:03.74\00:04:05.57 But there's another immovable rock of God's Word, His truth, 00:04:05.61\00:04:10.35 His law, and it's the standard by which all will be 00:04:10.38\00:04:14.45 judged someday. 00:04:14.48\00:04:15.88 Jean: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:04:15.92\00:04:17.22 It is undoubtedly the most precious stone on Earth today. 00:04:17.25\00:04:22.46 You know, hidden somewhere in a golden box there in Jerusalem, 00:04:22.49\00:04:25.79 the Ten Commandments. 00:04:25.83\00:04:27.13 What makes it so special isn't the stone, but it's the one Who 00:04:27.13\00:04:29.26 wrote on the stone. 00:04:29.30\00:04:30.67 God, of course Himself, wrote the Ten Commandments. 00:04:30.70\00:04:33.60 Well, are the Ten Commandments still binding today? 00:04:33.64\00:04:36.44 Well, a number of Christians say, "Well, no. 00:04:36.47\00:04:38.57 We've done away with this part of the old covenant." 00:04:38.61\00:04:40.28 Others say, "No, it's still applicable for us today." 00:04:40.31\00:04:42.98 You know, we have a study guide called "Written in Stone." 00:04:43.01\00:04:45.31 It's about the Ten Commandments. 00:04:45.35\00:04:47.18 And of course, if you stop and think for any short period of 00:04:47.22\00:04:49.52 time, you realize that for Christians, surely God would 00:04:49.55\00:04:52.85 want us not to kill or steal or commit adultery or bear a 00:04:52.89\00:04:55.69 false witness. 00:04:55.72\00:04:57.06 So, it makes sense that, no, it's still valid even today. 00:04:57.09\00:05:00.23 Doug: Absolutely. 00:05:00.26\00:05:01.63 Wonder--it makes you wonder, why people would say that the Ten 00:05:01.66\00:05:05.67 Commandments are part of the old covenant that we don't need to 00:05:05.70\00:05:08.00 keep anymore? 00:05:08.04\00:05:09.97 Jean: Our study guide is called "Written in Stone," and we'll be 00:05:10.01\00:05:12.21 happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:05:12.24\00:05:14.81 If you haven't read the study guide yet, you need to get it 00:05:14.84\00:05:17.18 and take a look at it. 00:05:17.21\00:05:18.68 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:05:18.71\00:05:22.22 You can ask for it. 00:05:22.25\00:05:23.59 Just say, "Written in Stone." 00:05:23.62\00:05:24.92 We'll be sending it to you. 00:05:24.95\00:05:26.29 Also, you can dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:05:26.32\00:05:28.96 Say, "Bible Answers Live!” And then ask for it by name, 00:05:28.99\00:05:31.49 "Written in Stone." 00:05:31.53\00:05:32.83 Now, this is for those who are in North America and Canada. 00:05:32.86\00:05:35.80 If you're outside of the U.S. 00:05:35.83\00:05:37.17 and we know we have folks listening around the world, just 00:05:37.20\00:05:39.57 go to the "Amazing Facts" website. 00:05:39.60\00:05:41.04 Just AmazingFacts.org or .com, and you'll be able to read 00:05:41.07\00:05:45.04 it there. 00:05:45.07\00:05:46.41 Well, before we go to the phone lines as we always do, Pastor 00:05:46.44\00:05:48.44 Doug, we like to start with prayer. 00:05:48.48\00:05:50.65 Dear Father, we thank You that we have this time to be able to 00:05:50.68\00:05:53.01 open up Your Word and study. 00:05:53.05\00:05:54.58 Indeed, the Bible is a lamp to our feet, a light to our path, 00:05:54.62\00:05:57.59 and it leads us to a clear and full understanding of truth. 00:05:57.62\00:06:00.96 So Lord, we invite Your Spirit to be with us, be with those who 00:06:00.99\00:06:03.36 are listening, wherever they might be, in Jesus's name. 00:06:03.39\00:06:06.56 Amen. 00:06:06.59\00:06:07.93 Doug: Amen. 00:06:07.96\00:06:09.23 Jean: First caller that we have is Jerry, listening in Texas. 00:06:09.26\00:06:10.70 Jerry, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:06:10.73\00:06:12.17 You are on the air. 00:06:12.20\00:06:13.50 Jerry: Hey, pastors. Good evening. 00:06:13.54\00:06:14.87 Doug: Hi. 00:06:14.90\00:06:16.81 Jerry: Simple question tonight, guys. 00:06:16.84\00:06:19.47 Was there a Sabbath before creation? 00:06:19.51\00:06:23.04 On other worlds, you know, do they have a Sabbath? 00:06:23.08\00:06:26.48 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:06:26.51\00:06:29.18 As near as we can tell from the evidence in the Bible, the 00:06:29.22\00:06:30.92 Sabbath first appears in Genesis chapter 2, and because it's 00:06:30.95\00:06:34.86 connected with the revolution of our earth on its axis, and, as 00:06:34.89\00:06:40.50 you know, the planets go around the sun, I think the Sabbath is 00:06:40.53\00:06:45.03 connected with timekeeping in our world. 00:06:45.07\00:06:48.00 Now, does God have other times of rest or holy days on other-- 00:06:48.04\00:06:52.07 on fallen worlds? 00:06:52.11\00:06:53.41 The Bible doesn't say. 00:06:53.44\00:06:54.74 But it first appears in Scripture in connection with the 00:06:54.78\00:06:57.28 creation of our planet and these creatures made in the image 00:06:57.31\00:07:01.08 of God. 00:07:01.12\00:07:02.42 So it sounds unique to us. 00:07:02.45\00:07:03.79 Jean: And yet, it will continue throughout all eternity because 00:07:03.82\00:07:05.89 you read about the earth made new, and it continues. 00:07:05.92\00:07:08.52 Of course, it's our earth that is recreated, and the New 00:07:08.56\00:07:12.03 Jerusalem comes down. 00:07:12.06\00:07:13.36 And God dwells here amongst these people. 00:07:13.40\00:07:15.33 So yes, Sabbath continues for eternity. 00:07:15.36\00:07:18.73 Next caller that we have is Brittany, listening 00:07:18.77\00:07:20.50 in California. 00:07:20.54\00:07:21.84 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:07:21.87\00:07:24.67 Brittany: Hey, hey. 00:07:24.71\00:07:26.84 Doug: Hi, how are you, Brittany? And your question tonight? 00:07:26.88\00:07:30.88 Brittany: Yeah, my question is what does the Bible say about 00:07:30.91\00:07:34.38 eating a plant-based diet? 00:07:34.42\00:07:37.22 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:07:37.25\00:07:39.92 You know, sometimes we have to just defer and say, "Well, the 00:07:39.95\00:07:41.86 Bible doesn't say anything about that." 00:07:41.89\00:07:43.43 But actually, the Bible does. 00:07:43.46\00:07:45.53 The original diet--now, when you say "plant-based," friends, that 00:07:45.56\00:07:48.80 doesn't mean you're just eating leaves. 00:07:48.83\00:07:50.40 A plant-based diet is, you know, a vegetarian eating vegetables, 00:07:50.43\00:07:53.84 or things that come from plants. 00:07:53.87\00:07:55.47 The original diet from man in the Garden of Eden was fruits, 00:07:55.50\00:07:59.01 grains, nuts. 00:07:59.04\00:08:00.61 After sin, God added vegetables. 00:08:00.64\00:08:02.74 That would be other parts of the plant, the stalk and the roots, 00:08:02.78\00:08:05.55 so forth, or the leaves. 00:08:05.58\00:08:06.95 And in the new earth, we're going to be back to, we believe, 00:08:06.98\00:08:09.62 the original diet. 00:08:09.65\00:08:11.15 So, the doctors actually have pretty much told us the jury is 00:08:11.19\00:08:16.49 in, and it is a scientific fact that people that avoid animal 00:08:16.52\00:08:21.36 products will still eventually get old and die, but they're 00:08:21.40\00:08:25.13 going to have a lot less disease, and they're going to be 00:08:25.17\00:08:28.30 a lot healthier. 00:08:28.34\00:08:29.67 Your chances of having a longer, stronger, healthier life with 00:08:29.70\00:08:33.38 more energy are going to be connected with eating as close 00:08:33.41\00:08:36.48 to the biblical diet as you can. 00:08:36.51\00:08:38.98 We did an interview here with Dr. Scharfenberg, still going, 00:08:39.01\00:08:44.02 he's 100 and plus years old, and yeah, he's been a vegetarian 00:08:44.05\00:08:50.29 most of his life. 00:08:50.33\00:08:51.66 Jean: That's right. 00:08:51.69\00:08:52.99 All right, we have a study guide that talks about health. 00:08:53.03\00:08:55.66 It's called "God's Free Health Plan," and we'll be happy to 00:08:55.70\00:08:57.60 send this to anyone who wants to learn more about what the Bible 00:08:57.63\00:09:00.20 says about how we can be healthy. 00:09:00.24\00:09:02.14 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:09:02.17\00:09:05.57 Ask for the study guide. 00:09:05.61\00:09:06.94 It's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:09:06.98\00:09:08.41 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone. 00:09:08.44\00:09:11.51 Say, "Bible Answers Live!" 00:09:11.55\00:09:12.85 And then ask for that study guide by name. 00:09:12.88\00:09:15.42 Thank you, Brittany. 00:09:15.45\00:09:16.75 We got Gary in Illinois. 00:09:16.79\00:09:18.12 Gary, you're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:09:18.15\00:09:20.32 Gary: Thank you. 00:09:20.36\00:09:21.69 My question comes from Luke 17, verse 28: "In the days of Lot, 00:09:21.72\00:09:25.99 they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, 00:09:26.03\00:09:29.73 they built; but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom it 00:09:29.76\00:09:33.70 rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 00:09:33.74\00:09:37.37 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man 00:09:37.41\00:09:42.11 is revealed." 00:09:42.14\00:09:43.48 So, my question is, is the world so big that the tribulation 00:09:43.51\00:09:48.18 takes place even as things go on as normal? 00:09:48.22\00:09:52.62 Doug: Well, when the great tribulation comes--by the way, 00:09:52.65\00:09:57.09 friends, when we read where Jesus says, "There's going to be 00:09:57.13\00:10:00.06 a great time of trouble," and he mentions this in Matthew 24, 00:10:00.10\00:10:03.60 it's also mentioned in Daniel chapter 12, you've got sort of 00:10:03.63\00:10:07.47 three phases. 00:10:07.50\00:10:08.80 One, Jesus was telling the Jews they were facing a big time of 00:10:08.84\00:10:12.27 trouble with the destruction of Jerusalem and that happened. 00:10:12.31\00:10:15.58 And then he was telling the church, you're going to face a 00:10:15.61\00:10:17.81 great time of trouble during the dark age persecution, when the 00:10:17.85\00:10:21.72 church would flee into the wilderness, and that happened. 00:10:21.75\00:10:24.05 But then, there's a great, great time of trouble you read of that 00:10:24.09\00:10:28.06 is in the Book of Revelation, when the seven last plagues 00:10:28.09\00:10:30.63 begin to fall, and I think that's what Gary is 00:10:30.66\00:10:33.70 talking about. 00:10:33.73\00:10:36.30 That's still future. 00:10:36.33\00:10:37.77 That hasn't--by the time that time of trouble starts, 00:10:37.80\00:10:40.20 probation is closed, and we don't think it's going to last 00:10:40.24\00:10:43.44 very long. 00:10:43.47\00:10:44.81 It says in Revelation that all of her plagues come in a year, 00:10:44.84\00:10:50.01 and a prophetic year is--day, rather, prophetic day is going 00:10:50.05\00:10:55.12 to be one year. 00:10:55.15\00:10:56.45 Yeah, so it'll be within that period of time. 00:10:56.48\00:10:59.15 It might be less than a year, but it's not going to last 00:10:59.19\00:11:00.96 longer than a year. 00:11:00.99\00:11:02.29 So, will people still be on the earth then? 00:11:02.32\00:11:04.69 Yes. 00:11:04.73\00:11:06.03 Because that's why Jesus said, "He that endures to the end, the 00:11:06.06\00:11:09.36 same will be saved." 00:11:09.40\00:11:10.77 And the children of Israel, were they in Egypt when the seven 00:11:10.80\00:11:14.44 plagues fell, or the ten plagues? 00:11:14.47\00:11:16.24 Yes. 00:11:16.27\00:11:18.37 Did he protect them? Yes. 00:11:18.41\00:11:20.64 So hopefully--we do have a study guide, Gary, 00:11:20.68\00:11:22.91 if you're interested. 00:11:22.94\00:11:24.28 It's called "Anything But Secret." 00:11:24.31\00:11:25.61 It talks about the tribulation in that booklet. 00:11:25.65\00:11:27.02 Jean: The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:11:27.05\00:11:30.09 You can ask for the book. 00:11:30.12\00:11:31.45 It's called "Anything But Secret." 00:11:31.49\00:11:33.19 We'll be happy to send it to you in Canada or in the U.S. 00:11:33.22\00:11:36.12 You can also get a digital copy of that by just dialing #250. 00:11:36.16\00:11:40.20 Say, "Bible Answers Live!" 00:11:40.23\00:11:41.53 And then ask for it. 00:11:41.56\00:11:42.86 The--I forgot the name. 00:11:42.90\00:11:44.70 Doug: "Anything But Secret." 00:11:44.73\00:11:46.07 Jean: "Anything But Secret." 00:11:46.10\00:11:47.40 That's right. 00:11:47.44\00:11:48.77 We've got several titles, by the way. 00:11:48.80\00:11:50.11 We have another one on the Second Coming called 00:11:50.14\00:11:51.47 "Ultimate Deliverance." 00:11:51.51\00:11:52.81 Sometimes we get mixed up, but it's a great book. 00:11:52.84\00:11:55.11 "Anything But Secret." 00:11:55.14\00:11:56.44 I will send that to you. 00:11:56.48\00:11:57.78 It's a digital download so you can get it right away. 00:11:57.81\00:12:00.12 Thank you, Gary. 00:12:00.15\00:12:01.45 We got, let's see, who else? 00:12:01.48\00:12:02.82 Glenn in Ohio. 00:12:02.85\00:12:04.15 Glenn, welcome to the program. 00:12:04.19\00:12:06.76 Glenn: Good evening, pastors, and thank you very much for 00:12:06.79\00:12:09.36 taking my call. 00:12:09.39\00:12:11.43 Doug: Yes, thank you for calling. 00:12:11.46\00:12:14.10 Glenn: Jesus was born again by a resurrection. 00:12:14.13\00:12:16.80 I think Peter and Colossians both say so. 00:12:16.83\00:12:20.70 Yet, people are told today they need to come to the altar, be 00:12:20.74\00:12:24.97 converted, get saved and born again. 00:12:25.01\00:12:28.28 I'm looking for a Scripture that says, that validates that being 00:12:28.31\00:12:31.91 born again that one that does not contradict 1 John 5:18 A. 00:12:31.95\00:12:37.09 Can you help me? 00:12:37.12\00:12:38.49 Doug: All right. 00:12:38.52\00:12:39.82 Well, a person doesn't necessarily need to come to the 00:12:39.85\00:12:42.42 altar to be born again. 00:12:42.46\00:12:44.33 The apostle Paul went through a conversion and a new birth, and 00:12:44.36\00:12:48.53 he was on the road to Damascus, getting ready to 00:12:48.56\00:12:50.93 persecute Christians. 00:12:50.97\00:12:52.30 And he had an encounter with Jesus. 00:12:52.33\00:12:54.37 He spent three days praying and fasting, and then Ananias laid 00:12:54.40\00:13:00.78 hands on him. 00:13:00.81\00:13:02.14 And the scales fell from his eyes, and you can be sure he was 00:13:02.18\00:13:04.41 born again at that time. 00:13:04.45\00:13:06.11 He had a new birth, and he was a new man. 00:13:06.15\00:13:08.28 And Jesus said, "You'll know them by their fruits." 00:13:08.32\00:13:10.55 They start doing something different so-- 00:13:10.59\00:13:13.89 Jean: And of course, the famous passage you find 00:13:13.92\00:13:16.09 in John chapter 3. 00:13:16.12\00:13:17.79 Jesus said, "Except the man be born of water and of the spirit, 00:13:17.83\00:13:19.96 he cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven." 00:13:20.00\00:13:21.53 Now, Jesus didn't have to be born. 00:13:21.56\00:13:23.47 I'm not, I mean, He was born, but He didn't have to be, as we 00:13:23.50\00:13:26.63 refer today, "born again" because Christ never sinned. 00:13:26.67\00:13:29.84 So those--everyone else has sinned, all have sinned, and 00:13:29.87\00:13:32.41 fallen short of the glory of God, except for Christ. 00:13:32.44\00:13:34.21 So, for everyone else, we got to be born again, and that is to 00:13:34.24\00:13:38.15 receive Jesus as our personal Savior. 00:13:38.18\00:13:40.32 Doug: And for some people, the new birth, like Paul, is a 00:13:40.35\00:13:43.52 dramatic, sudden occurrence, and they can tell you the date on 00:13:43.55\00:13:46.25 the calendar. 00:13:46.29\00:13:47.62 For other people, in my case, I sort of read my way into it. 00:13:47.66\00:13:52.06 I think there was a time I ultimately prayed and officially 00:13:52.09\00:13:54.46 asked God into my heart. 00:13:54.46\00:13:55.80 I don't even remember the date. 00:13:55.83\00:13:57.33 But as far as my mind and heart being changed, that happened 00:13:57.37\00:14:01.47 over a process while I was reading so it's hard to fix 00:14:01.50\00:14:04.11 the date. 00:14:04.14\00:14:05.37 That's why Jesus said, "The wind blows where it will and you hear 00:14:05.41\00:14:08.04 the sound thereof, but you don't know where it came from and 00:14:08.08\00:14:10.05 where it's going." 00:14:10.08\00:14:11.45 And so sometimes, a new birth is like that. 00:14:11.48\00:14:14.55 Thanks, Glenn. 00:14:14.58\00:14:15.92 And you know, we've got a book, "Three Steps to Heaven," that 00:14:15.95\00:14:19.39 talks about the new birth. 00:14:19.42\00:14:20.76 We'd be happy to send you a free copy. 00:14:20.79\00:14:22.09 Jean: The number again is 800-835-6747. 00:14:22.12\00:14:25.33 As for the book, it's called "Three Steps to Heaven." 00:14:25.36\00:14:27.76 Also, you can get a digital copy by dialing #250 on 00:14:27.76\00:14:32.00 your smartphone. 00:14:32.03\00:14:33.40 All right, we got Dwinelle listening in Nevada. 00:14:33.44\00:14:36.00 Dwinelle, welcome to the program. 00:14:36.04\00:14:38.67 Dwinelle: Thank you. 00:14:38.71\00:14:40.01 Thank you, pastor, for taking my call. 00:14:40.04\00:14:42.18 My question is, I don't eat unclean meat, but if you look at 00:14:42.21\00:14:48.05 1 Corinthians 10:27 and Luke 10:8--well, 1 Corinthians 10:27, 00:14:48.08\00:14:55.36 it says, "If any of those who do not believe invites you to 00:14:55.39\00:14:58.09 dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, 00:14:58.13\00:15:02.26 asking no question for conscience' sake." 00:15:02.30\00:15:05.50 And Luke 10:8 is similar to that where it says, "Whatever city 00:15:05.53\00:15:12.64 you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as our step 00:15:12.67\00:15:17.01 before you." 00:15:17.05\00:15:18.35 So then what do I do? I mean, if they set, like-- 00:15:18.38\00:15:21.12 Doug: Yeah, the context of those is both different. 00:15:21.15\00:15:23.79 First of all, when Jesus sends out the 12 apostles, He says, 00:15:23.82\00:15:27.82 "Go not to the Gentiles, go to the lost sheep of the house 00:15:27.86\00:15:30.76 of Israel." 00:15:30.79\00:15:32.13 So they knew right away they were going into Jewish homes, 00:15:32.16\00:15:34.73 and Christ is saying, "Don't be finicky about what you eat." 00:15:34.73\00:15:37.03 They weren't going to be serving them pork. 00:15:37.07\00:15:39.27 That didn't even come into anyone's mind at that point 00:15:39.30\00:15:41.94 because they're going to speak to Jews. 00:15:41.97\00:15:43.81 So He just saying, "You know, don't say well, I want some of 00:15:43.84\00:15:46.01 this and not that." 00:15:46.04\00:15:47.34 And He said, "Be thankful for what they give you." 00:15:47.38\00:15:48.88 Paul is a different question. 00:15:48.91\00:15:50.71 Paul is talking about when believers were buying meat in 00:15:50.75\00:15:55.18 the marketplace, and they were only buying clean meats because 00:15:55.22\00:15:58.09 they knew what the Law said, they were concerned, well, was 00:15:58.12\00:16:01.76 it sacrificed to an idol? 00:16:01.79\00:16:03.43 Now, Pastor Ross, there's a place where he says, "Asking no 00:16:03.46\00:16:05.63 questions for conscience's sake." 00:16:05.66\00:16:07.20 I'm trying to remember where that is. 00:16:07.23\00:16:08.50 Jean: Yeah, it refers--well, it talks about eating it in 00:16:08.53\00:16:10.80 1 Corinthians 10:27. 00:16:10.83\00:16:12.17 The verse we just read where it talks about "ask no questions 00:16:12.20\00:16:15.24 for conscience' sake," but that's when 00:16:15.27\00:16:16.97 you're sitting down to eat. 00:16:17.01\00:16:18.84 Doug: Yeah, so, don't ask them, 00:16:18.87\00:16:20.61 "Well, was this offered to an idol?" 00:16:20.64\00:16:22.34 The question wasn't, "What kind of meat is this?" 00:16:22.38\00:16:24.35 Or, "What kind of food is this?" 00:16:24.38\00:16:26.08 The question for them was, is it off offered to an idol? 00:16:26.11\00:16:30.29 Jean: Let me read the next verse because I think it makes it 00:16:30.32\00:16:32.02 very clear. 00:16:32.05\00:16:33.36 It says, Paul goes on, he says, "But if anyone says to you, 00:16:33.39\00:16:35.62 'This was offered to idols,' do not eat it for the sake of the 00:16:35.66\00:16:40.06 one who told you, and for conscience's sake; for the earth 00:16:40.10\00:16:43.90 is the Lord's, and all the fullness of it." 00:16:43.93\00:16:45.50 So here, pretty clear, Paul says, 00:16:45.53\00:16:46.84 "You know, if it's clean food and they put it in 00:16:46.87\00:16:49.34 front of you, don't ask, 'Was this offered to an idol?' 00:16:49.37\00:16:52.34 But if somebody says, 'Oh, by the way, do you know that was 00:16:52.37\00:16:54.34 offered to an idol?'" 00:16:54.38\00:16:55.71 Paul says, "Well, don't eat it then." 00:16:55.74\00:16:57.18 But don't ask. So. 00:16:57.21\00:17:00.28 Doug: And there's another verse where he says, "Whatever is sold 00:17:00.32\00:17:02.68 in the shambles" in the King James, it's shambles, it's 00:17:02.72\00:17:04.62 marketplace or something. 00:17:04.65\00:17:06.39 And so, the big question they grappled with is, were they 00:17:06.42\00:17:10.56 supporting idolatry since all the Romans and the Greeks 00:17:10.59\00:17:13.53 offered animals to the--I'm talking about clean animals, 00:17:13.56\00:17:16.40 goats, sheep, chickens. 00:17:16.43\00:17:17.73 They butchered it in front of an idol. 00:17:17.77\00:17:20.40 Jean: There it is. 00:17:20.44\00:17:21.77 1 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 25: "Eat whatever he sold in the 00:17:21.80\00:17:24.17 meat market, asking no questions for conscience' sake." 00:17:24.21\00:17:28.28 Doug: So he wasn't eating any pig. 00:17:28.31\00:17:29.74 He's talking about the clean meats. 00:17:29.78\00:17:31.65 Jean: All right, good. Good question. 00:17:31.68\00:17:33.55 Isabella is in North Carolina. 00:17:33.58\00:17:35.38 Isabella, welcome to the program. 00:17:35.42\00:17:38.39 Isabella: Thank you, guys, for all you do, first of all, and 00:17:38.42\00:17:40.19 for this life. 00:17:40.22\00:17:42.69 Basically, my question is for chapter--I mean, Genesis 19, 00:17:42.72\00:17:48.40 chapter 1, if you guys could elaborate on what's going on and 00:17:48.43\00:17:54.54 the angels, if they're accepting praise from Lot or not. 00:17:54.57\00:17:59.31 I was curious. 00:17:59.34\00:18:00.74 And thank you for your "Jesus in the Bible" series. 00:18:00.78\00:18:04.25 Doug: Oh, praise the Lord. Thank you. 00:18:04.28\00:18:06.95 All right, so, let me read this for our friends 00:18:06.98\00:18:08.28 that are listening. 00:18:08.32\00:18:09.65 And Genesis 9--19, verse 1, I believe: "Now the two angels 00:18:09.68\00:18:13.69 came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting at the gate 00:18:13.72\00:18:16.39 of Sodom. 00:18:16.42\00:18:17.76 When Lot saw the men, he arose to meet them, and bowed himself 00:18:17.79\00:18:19.76 with his face towards the ground." 00:18:19.79\00:18:21.43 You know, that was actually a custom of greeting. 00:18:21.46\00:18:24.67 It wasn't talking about worshiping. 00:18:24.70\00:18:27.44 You would also, you know, you go to Korea, and even today, when I 00:18:27.47\00:18:31.11 meet some of my Korean friends here in North America, as we 00:18:31.14\00:18:33.81 introduce each other, they sort of instinctively bow. 00:18:33.84\00:18:36.88 It's kind of like we shake hands. 00:18:36.91\00:18:38.81 It was just considered a term of respect. 00:18:38.85\00:18:41.82 And Abraham, Lot, a lot of the patriarchs, they practiced very 00:18:41.85\00:18:48.36 strong hospitality. 00:18:48.39\00:18:50.43 And when Lot saw these two dignified gentlemen coming into 00:18:50.46\00:18:54.30 the city, and he knew the reputation of the city, he 00:18:54.36\00:18:56.50 thought, you know, "I better invite them home so they don't 00:18:56.53\00:18:58.80 end up in the wrong place." 00:18:58.83\00:19:00.34 And so he approached them right away and bowed and said, "Let 00:19:00.37\00:19:02.20 me, let me offer you a place." 00:19:02.24\00:19:04.11 They had no hotels back then, and people would take 00:19:04.14\00:19:06.61 in strangers all the time. 00:19:06.64\00:19:08.31 That's what Paul says in Hebrews, "entertaining 00:19:08.34\00:19:10.01 strangers, unaware of some of entertained angels," but no. 00:19:10.05\00:19:13.21 He's not worshiping them. 00:19:13.25\00:19:14.92 Jean: Okay. Very good. 00:19:14.95\00:19:17.62 We've got Ann listening in Anchorage, Alaska. 00:19:17.65\00:19:18.99 Ann, welcome to the program. 00:19:19.02\00:19:20.49 Ann: Yes, my question is in Mark 5, where Jesus healed the 00:19:20.52\00:19:27.36 paralytic man. 00:19:27.40\00:19:31.00 My--I'm wondering who it says that God or that an angel 00:19:31.03\00:19:35.37 stirred the pool occasionally, and then everybody tried to 00:19:35.40\00:19:39.04 rush in. 00:19:39.07\00:19:40.38 I'm wondering was that an angel of God or was that an angel 00:19:40.41\00:19:44.21 of Satan? 00:19:44.25\00:19:45.55 Because it seems to me, God would offer more than just one 00:19:45.58\00:19:48.42 person to be healed. 00:19:48.45\00:19:51.59 Doug: Right. Now, first, you said Mark. 00:19:51.62\00:19:54.26 I think you mean John chapter 5, where the Waters of Bethesda 00:19:54.29\00:19:57.69 are stirred. 00:19:57.73\00:19:59.03 Yeah, yeah, that is actually a good question. 00:19:59.06\00:20:03.50 You know, it's hard to picture that an angel of God is going to 00:20:03.53\00:20:06.63 see all of these sick people laying around this pool, hoping 00:20:06.67\00:20:09.74 the water will be bubbling or stirred, and whoever clambers in 00:20:09.77\00:20:13.07 first over the other, all fighting against each other to 00:20:13.11\00:20:15.94 get in the water first, is going to be healed. 00:20:15.98\00:20:17.91 That'd be sort of a pathetic scene. 00:20:17.95\00:20:20.45 I think it's built around a superstition, and, you know, 00:20:20.48\00:20:24.45 whether it was a natural phenomenon that water bubbled up 00:20:24.49\00:20:29.29 every now and then, I've got a spring like that. 00:20:29.32\00:20:31.93 If you keep watching this one spot, water just keeps 00:20:31.96\00:20:33.86 bubbling up. 00:20:33.90\00:20:35.66 Or, you know, evil angels would stir it and make the most of it. 00:20:35.70\00:20:39.53 But I don't think that God was doing that. 00:20:39.57\00:20:41.84 Your thoughts? 00:20:41.87\00:20:43.30 Jean: Yeah. Absolutely. 00:20:43.34\00:20:45.01 I think there's been some archaeological evidence to 00:20:45.04\00:20:47.21 support the idea that the Pool of Bethesda was actually built 00:20:47.24\00:20:49.44 close to or over the spring. 00:20:49.48\00:20:52.51 And it's quite possible that at certain times there was some 00:20:52.55\00:20:54.92 sort of movement of the water as the spring would kind of, you 00:20:54.95\00:20:58.59 know, bubble up, and people saw that and maybe at some point in 00:20:58.62\00:21:02.06 time, somebody happened to be stepping down. 00:21:02.09\00:21:03.96 And of course, they were all looking for some kind of 00:21:03.99\00:21:06.29 supernatural evidence. 00:21:06.33\00:21:07.66 They're hoping for healing. 00:21:07.73\00:21:09.00 And maybe somebody was, at least they thought that we 00:21:09.03\00:21:11.43 healed somehow. 00:21:11.47\00:21:12.77 Doug: Could be the placebo effect. 00:21:12.80\00:21:14.10 Jean: That's right. And the idea caught on. 00:21:14.14\00:21:16.81 So everyone's waiting for the moving of the water. 00:21:16.84\00:21:18.17 Doug: Yeah. 00:21:18.21\00:21:19.51 Well, even today, you know, there are tens of thousands of 00:21:19.54\00:21:21.24 people that make pilgrimages and go to Lourdes, these different 00:21:21.28\00:21:25.11 Catholic shrines, hoping to be healed. 00:21:25.15\00:21:26.58 And they say that some experience miracles. 00:21:26.61\00:21:29.32 So is that Mary doing that? 00:21:29.35\00:21:31.89 Or you got, not only for the Catholic Church, there are 00:21:31.92\00:21:35.56 people who make pilgrimages to Buddha statues, and that say 00:21:35.59\00:21:39.03 that they're going to be healed. 00:21:39.06\00:21:40.40 So, I think there's some counterfeit healings, and 00:21:40.43\00:21:43.20 sometimes, a person might be healed just because of 00:21:43.23\00:21:45.57 their faith. 00:21:45.60\00:21:47.00 Jesus said many times, "Your faith has made you whole." 00:21:47.04\00:21:50.77 And maybe God honored their faith in God. 00:21:50.81\00:21:53.31 It's hard to say, but they're a good question. 00:21:53.34\00:21:55.81 Jean: All right, we got Shannon, listening in Georgia. 00:21:55.84\00:21:58.51 Shannon, welcome to the program. 00:21:58.55\00:22:01.72 Shannon: All right. Thank you. 00:22:01.75\00:22:04.42 I'm calling about Romans 3, verses 19 and 20. 00:22:04.45\00:22:09.02 Could you please explain that? 00:22:09.06\00:22:11.33 Doug: All right, let us read that for our friends. 00:22:11.36\00:22:13.23 Romans 3:19: "Now we know that whatever the law says, it says 00:22:13.26\00:22:17.57 to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, 00:22:17.60\00:22:20.97 and all the world may become guilty before God. 00:22:21.00\00:22:23.51 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified 00:22:23.54\00:22:26.91 in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin." 00:22:26.94\00:22:30.55 All right, would you like us to expound on that a little bit? 00:22:30.58\00:22:34.68 Shannon: Yes. 00:22:34.72\00:22:36.02 Doug: Okay, everybody has broken God's law. 00:22:36.05\00:22:39.29 Sin is the transgression of the law. 00:22:39.32\00:22:43.12 The Bible tells us in 1 John 4, "Sin is the breaking or 00:22:43.16\00:22:46.80 transgression of God's law." 00:22:46.83\00:22:48.10 "All have sinned," Romans tells us, "and fallen short of the 00:22:48.13\00:22:51.70 glory of God. 00:22:51.73\00:22:53.07 If we are saved by law keeping, then we're all doomed." 00:22:53.10\00:22:56.47 It's not that keeping the law saves anybody, we're saved 00:22:56.50\00:23:00.28 by grace. 00:23:00.31\00:23:01.61 Now, when a person is saved by grace, do they continue to break 00:23:01.64\00:23:06.25 the law? 00:23:06.28\00:23:07.62 And that's why Paul says in Romans, I think it's chapter 6. 00:23:07.65\00:23:10.39 Do I continue in sin, that grace may abound? 00:23:10.42\00:23:13.19 Do I continue breaking the law, that grace may abound? 00:23:13.22\00:23:15.82 He says, "God forbid, how shall we, who are dead to sin, 00:23:15.86\00:23:18.99 continue any longer therein?" 00:23:19.03\00:23:20.90 And then you'll also read in Romans chapter, I think it's 00:23:20.93\00:23:23.97 chapter 2:13. 00:23:24.00\00:23:25.43 He said, "It's not the hearers of the law that are just before 00:23:25.47\00:23:28.07 God, but the doers of the law that will be justified." 00:23:28.10\00:23:31.14 And he's talking about saved people, who are keeping the law, 00:23:31.17\00:23:33.98 not to be saved, but because they love the Lord. 00:23:34.01\00:23:37.35 That's why Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments." 00:23:37.38\00:23:40.95 So, is that making sense, Shannon? 00:23:40.98\00:23:45.95 Shannon: Yes. 00:23:45.99\00:23:47.32 Doug: Okay, praise the Lord. 00:23:47.36\00:23:50.03 Now, you would enjoy that study guide that we're offering. 00:23:50.06\00:23:51.36 And we also have a sermon book that's called "Does God's Grace 00:23:51.39\00:23:55.13 Blot Out the Law?" 00:23:55.16\00:23:56.46 And we'll send you a free copy of that or the one, 00:23:56.50\00:23:59.67 "Written in Stone." 00:23:59.70\00:24:01.07 Jean: The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:24:01.10\00:24:03.81 That is our resource phone line. 00:24:03.84\00:24:05.47 You can ask for the book. 00:24:05.51\00:24:06.84 It's called "Does God's Grace Blot Out the Law?" 00:24:06.88\00:24:09.28 You can also ask for our free offer for tonight. 00:24:09.31\00:24:11.15 It's called "Written in Stone." 00:24:11.18\00:24:12.85 You can also dial #250 if you'd like to get a digital download. 00:24:12.88\00:24:18.32 Dial #250. 00:24:18.35\00:24:19.65 Say, "Bible Answers Live!" 00:24:19.69\00:24:21.02 And then you can ask for the book by name, "Does God's Grace 00:24:21.06\00:24:22.76 Blot Out the Law?" 00:24:22.79\00:24:24.09 Thank you, Shannon. 00:24:24.13\00:24:25.43 We've got George in Oregon. George, welcome to the program. 00:24:25.46\00:24:28.46 George: Thank you very much for taking my call. 00:24:28.50\00:24:30.27 The question is in Genesis 3:21, the Lord God made tunics. 00:24:30.30\00:24:35.67 Who actually do you think killed the lamb? 00:24:35.70\00:24:39.84 Was it being shown to Adam how to kill? 00:24:39.87\00:24:42.21 Or did the Lord kill the lamb? 00:24:42.24\00:24:45.48 Doug: Yeah, that's a great question. 00:24:45.51\00:24:46.82 But my belief is that God established the sacrificial 00:24:46.85\00:24:50.82 system, and when Adam saw--and Eve--these innocent creatures 00:24:50.85\00:24:57.73 that they were originally designed to name and care for 00:24:57.76\00:25:00.86 dying for their sin, it broke their hearts. 00:25:00.90\00:25:03.50 I think Adam probably cried when he saw leaves dying because of 00:25:03.53\00:25:07.24 his sin, this beautiful garden. 00:25:07.27\00:25:09.80 So, God established a sacrificial system. 00:25:09.84\00:25:12.37 Now, Pastor Ross, in Revelation says "the Lamb slain from the 00:25:12.41\00:25:15.71 foundation of the world." 00:25:15.74\00:25:17.78 And it says, "God so loved the world He gave His Son." 00:25:17.81\00:25:22.15 So, I think it makes sense that in the beginning, God is the one 00:25:22.18\00:25:25.49 Who established a sacrificial system and showed Adam. 00:25:25.52\00:25:28.69 Jean: I agree. 00:25:28.72\00:25:30.06 I was just going to add a few more verses where Jesus speaks 00:25:30.09\00:25:31.79 about His crucifixion. 00:25:31.83\00:25:33.13 He says, "Nobody takes My life, but I lay it down of Myself. 00:25:33.16\00:25:35.53 I have power to lay it out and take it up again." 00:25:35.56\00:25:37.73 So, Christ is the one. 00:25:37.77\00:25:39.13 God is the one Who provides the sacrifice. 00:25:39.17\00:25:41.97 And of course, after the first lamb was sacrificed, then 00:25:42.00\00:25:45.14 throughout the Jewish system, the high priest would-- 00:25:45.17\00:25:47.61 their lamb would be brought, and the priest would be there. 00:25:47.64\00:25:50.05 The Israelite would lay his hand on the head of the goat, 00:25:50.08\00:25:52.18 symbolizing the transfer of sins. 00:25:52.21\00:25:53.92 He'd have to take the life of the goat because our sins took 00:25:53.95\00:25:57.52 the life of Jesus. 00:25:57.55\00:25:58.89 But Jesus willingly lay down his life. 00:25:58.92\00:26:00.72 Doug: Yeah. 00:26:00.76\00:26:02.09 So I think Gary is also wondering, or George, I'm sorry, 00:26:02.12\00:26:03.56 is also wondering, was it God Who actually cut the lamb's 00:26:03.59\00:26:08.90 throat or did He tell Adam what he needed to do and Adam had to 00:26:08.93\00:26:11.77 do it? 00:26:11.80\00:26:13.20 Jean: I think the first one, it says God made coats of skin. 00:26:13.23\00:26:15.94 So you'd assume that God was the one that--and again, that ties 00:26:15.97\00:26:19.47 in with the idea of Jesus laying down his life. 00:26:19.51\00:26:21.84 Doug: Yeah, absolutely. 00:26:21.88\00:26:23.58 Well, listening friends, we are not done. 00:26:23.61\00:26:25.41 We're going to take a brief break, and we hope that you'll 00:26:25.45\00:26:27.48 come back. 00:26:27.52\00:26:29.05 We're going to--the best is yet to come 00:26:29.08\00:26:30.72 for "Bible Answers Live." 00:26:30.75\00:26:32.09 If you want to call in with a Bible question, 00:26:32.12\00:26:33.62 it's not too late: 800-GOD-SAYS, 800-463-7297. 00:26:33.66\00:26:39.13 And we'll be answering your Bible questions. 00:26:39.16\00:26:41.13 Also, you can be listening on Facebook and YouTube and AFTV. 00:26:41.16\00:26:45.43 Be back in just a moment. 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.47 male announcer: Stay tuned. 00:26:50.54\00:26:51.87 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:51.91\00:26:57.85 male announcer: Doug Batchelor was the teenage son of a 00:26:57.88\00:27:00.68 millionaire father and show business mother, 00:27:00.72\00:27:03.08 yet he was living in a cave. 00:27:03.12\00:27:05.19 He had everything money could buy, everything but happiness. 00:27:05.22\00:27:08.69 But all of the fun and excitement he enjoyed left his 00:27:08.72\00:27:11.49 life out of control. 00:27:11.53\00:27:13.26 His search eventually led him to a cave above Palm Springs that 00:27:13.29\00:27:17.10 became his home. 00:27:17.13\00:27:18.57 While Doug scavenged for food in garbage bins, his father owned a 00:27:18.60\00:27:22.44 yacht, a Learjet, and an airline. 00:27:22.47\00:27:25.24 But in his cave home, he discovered a dust-covered Bible. 00:27:25.27\00:27:29.01 As he began to read, he soon learned of his true purpose 00:27:29.04\00:27:32.35 in life. 00:27:32.38\00:27:33.68 "The Richest Caveman" is the extraordinary true story of Doug 00:27:33.72\00:27:37.12 Batchelor that tells how a rebellious teenager who once 00:27:37.15\00:27:40.42 lived in a cave became a tremendous soul-winner for 00:27:40.46\00:27:43.49 Jesus Christ. 00:27:43.53\00:27:44.86 It's a thrilling testimony of the transforming power of 00:27:44.89\00:27:47.66 God's Word. 00:27:47.66\00:27:49.00 To order your copy of "The Richest Caveman" call 00:27:49.03\00:27:51.90 800-538-7275 or visit AFBOOKSTORE.COM. 00:27:51.93\00:27:57.54 male announcer: Are you looking for a simple way 00:27:59.37\00:28:01.21 to share your faith? Doug: Hi. 00:30:29.09\00:30:31.76 Ryan: My question is, is the Gregorian calendar that we all 00:30:31.79\00:30:36.36 use today, is it not the beast power trying to change times 00:30:36.40\00:30:42.14 and laws? 00:30:42.17\00:30:43.47 Is it, you know, because, you know, we know who the beast is, 00:30:43.51\00:30:49.01 do we not? 00:30:49.04\00:30:50.38 And I don't--I see that basically the, you know, the 00:30:50.41\00:30:56.45 Pope and the Roman, the Roman, you know, it's a Roman calendar. 00:30:56.48\00:31:01.56 Doug: Yeah, well, let me take a stab at that. 00:31:01.59\00:31:04.26 Yeah, no, I think I understand. 00:31:04.29\00:31:06.96 So the prophecy you quoted is from Daniel 7:25. 00:31:07.00\00:31:09.30 Speaking of the beast's power, it says he will think to change 00:31:09.33\00:31:12.03 times and laws. 00:31:12.07\00:31:13.87 And, well, the Romans changing the calendar, that even 00:31:13.90\00:31:17.04 predates Christ. 00:31:17.07\00:31:18.41 It was during the time of Julius Caesar. 00:31:18.44\00:31:21.11 They had the Julian calendar, and I think everyone knows that 00:31:21.14\00:31:24.58 the reason we've got a month called July is because of 00:31:24.61\00:31:27.58 Julius Caesar. 00:31:27.62\00:31:28.95 And the reason we have a month called August is because of 00:31:28.98\00:31:31.59 Octavian, or Augustus, Caesar. 00:31:31.62\00:31:34.62 And the Roman months actually were very different. 00:31:34.66\00:31:40.10 October was like octagon, ocho, that was supposed to be the 00:31:40.13\00:31:45.50 eighth month. 00:31:45.53\00:31:46.84 Well, it's the 10th month for us. 00:31:46.87\00:31:48.17 December, D, decca, that's like a decade. 00:31:48.20\00:31:51.17 That's supposed to be the 10th month. 00:31:51.21\00:31:52.51 Well, it's the 12th month. 00:31:52.54\00:31:53.84 So the Romans did a lot of things that--November, nueve, 00:31:53.88\00:31:56.28 nine is supposed to be the ninth month, but it's not. 00:31:56.31\00:31:59.85 So, the calendar got changed a lot by the Romans, and then it 00:31:59.88\00:32:05.15 got changed again. 00:32:05.19\00:32:06.42 The adjustment that was made by Pope Gregory, or during his time 00:32:06.45\00:32:09.52 anyway, was actually a good adjustment. 00:32:09.56\00:32:11.86 They were adjusting for not having the right amount of days 00:32:11.89\00:32:15.86 in the month, and they added, you know, leap year and adjusted 00:32:15.90\00:32:18.87 it ahead ten days. 00:32:18.90\00:32:20.37 So that was just modifying things for farming. 00:32:20.40\00:32:23.44 But there are other ways where they tried to establish feasts 00:32:23.47\00:32:27.68 that are not in the Bible and ignore the ones that are, the 00:32:27.71\00:32:30.15 holy days and the Sabbath day. 00:32:30.18\00:32:32.35 There's a big effort to change God's holy times and laws 00:32:32.38\00:32:37.19 separate from the calendar. 00:32:37.22\00:32:39.49 And they did certainly mess with the calendar. 00:32:39.52\00:32:41.26 Jean: The calendar, as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, they 00:32:41.29\00:32:43.06 never changed the days of the week. 00:32:43.09\00:32:45.03 I'm looking at it here, October the 15th. 00:32:45.06\00:32:48.23 They changed it in AD 1582, and they had Thursday, October the 00:32:48.26\00:32:52.43 4th followed by Friday, October the 15th. 00:32:52.47\00:32:55.67 So they just added ten days, but they didn't change the days of 00:32:55.70\00:32:59.07 the week. 00:32:59.11\00:33:00.58 Doug: Yeah, Thursday was followed by Friday, as it always 00:33:00.61\00:33:03.28 has been. 00:33:03.31\00:33:04.65 Jean: And the prophecy's referring to the beast's power 00:33:04.68\00:33:07.15 trying to change the day of worship, and that's a 00:33:07.18\00:33:09.75 different story. 00:33:09.78\00:33:11.55 Okay, thank you. 00:33:11.59\00:33:14.26 We've got James in Texas. James, welcome to the program. 00:33:14.29\00:33:16.96 James: Yes, sir. Thank you for having me. 00:33:16.99\00:33:19.66 My question for the night is, the time of trouble and the 00:33:19.69\00:33:22.66 great tribulation, is that that takes place the seven last 00:33:22.70\00:33:27.64 plagues, is that the same thing, the time of trouble and 00:33:27.67\00:33:30.97 the tribulation? 00:33:31.01\00:33:32.31 Or is that two different timelines altogether? 00:33:32.34\00:33:34.24 Doug: Well, let's talk about the final time of trouble. 00:33:34.28\00:33:37.15 And you know, Jesus, he does reference that in Matthew 24, 00:33:37.18\00:33:41.05 Mark 13, Luke 17, and Luke 21. 00:33:41.08\00:33:45.59 And it's also referenced in Revelation 15 and 16 when the 00:33:45.62\00:33:49.06 seven last plagues fall out. 00:33:49.09\00:33:50.79 It seems to come in two stages, where you have what people might 00:33:50.83\00:33:54.20 call the small time of trouble. 00:33:54.23\00:33:56.36 During the small time of trouble, there's 00:33:56.40\00:33:57.90 great persecution. 00:33:57.93\00:33:59.20 You cannot buy or sell unless you cooperate with the beast. 00:33:59.23\00:34:02.17 But during that time, God's people will still be 00:34:02.20\00:34:04.74 Spirit-filled preaching. 00:34:04.77\00:34:06.07 There'll be many converts during that time. 00:34:06.11\00:34:08.61 We don't know how long that is. 00:34:08.64\00:34:10.98 But finally, they're going to have a death decree, and when 00:34:11.01\00:34:14.08 they bring out this death decree, right then or close to 00:34:14.12\00:34:18.09 that time, we're going to see the seven last plagues fall. 00:34:18.12\00:34:20.69 Probation will be closed. 00:34:20.72\00:34:22.06 That's called the "great time of trouble." 00:34:22.09\00:34:24.29 So when you've got the oceans and the springs turning into 00:34:24.33\00:34:26.73 blood, and men are scorched with great heat, and they got noisome 00:34:26.76\00:34:29.26 sores, and you just look at the seven plagues, and it's going to 00:34:29.30\00:34:33.27 be pretty intense, that is the great time of trouble such as 00:34:33.30\00:34:37.07 there never has been since origination. 00:34:37.11\00:34:39.64 Jean: And that's Daniel chapter 12, verse 1? 00:34:39.67\00:34:42.04 So what you're saying, Pastor Doug, 00:34:42.08\00:34:43.31 is that the time of trouble and tribulation are just two words, 00:34:43.35\00:34:47.15 but they can refer to the same thing. 00:34:47.18\00:34:49.12 Doug: Well, every Christian goes through some tribulation. 00:34:49.15\00:34:51.89 Paul says it is through many tribulations we enter the 00:34:51.92\00:34:54.89 Kingdom of God. 00:34:54.92\00:34:56.22 So everyone goes through different kinds of tribulations. 00:34:56.26\00:34:58.89 But the historic great time of trouble, that's still ahead 00:34:58.93\00:35:02.60 of us. 00:35:02.63\00:35:03.93 Jean: Okay, very good. 00:35:03.97\00:35:05.27 Next order that we have is Daniel in Michigan. 00:35:05.30\00:35:06.90 Daniel, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:35:06.94\00:35:09.34 Daniel: Yes, hi, thank you for taking my call. 00:35:09.37\00:35:13.41 Someone already asked this question, 00:35:13.44\00:35:14.74 but I'll ask it anyways. 00:35:14.78\00:35:16.31 So how can you know if you have been saved or born again? 00:35:16.34\00:35:20.28 I know Jesus says you cannot enter the Kingdom unless you're 00:35:20.32\00:35:24.35 born again, and I've been kind of confused about this lately. 00:35:24.39\00:35:28.76 I always thought that if you're willfully giving into sin, you 00:35:28.79\00:35:33.46 know, you know it's wrong, but you've given anyways, that's an 00:35:33.50\00:35:35.93 indication that you're not born again. 00:35:35.96\00:35:38.57 Because 1 John 39 says, "Everyone who has been born of 00:35:38.60\00:35:41.34 God does not practice sin." 00:35:41.37\00:35:43.77 And sometimes, I fall into that category for, I don't know, a 00:35:43.81\00:35:46.81 few days, a few weeks. 00:35:46.84\00:35:48.14 And I'm thinking, am I born again? 00:35:48.18\00:35:50.45 I'm not sure. 00:35:50.48\00:35:52.08 And and then I asked a friend this, and he said, "Well, you 00:35:52.11\00:35:56.08 can only lose your salvation if you grieve away the Spirit." 00:35:56.12\00:36:00.56 So I'm like, so you can, like, practice sin for 10, 20, 30 00:36:00.59\00:36:04.43 years and still be saved? 00:36:04.46\00:36:06.49 He's like, "Well, yeah, as long as you haven't grieved away 00:36:06.53\00:36:08.30 the Spirit." 00:36:08.33\00:36:09.70 And I'm like, I don't know if that's right. 00:36:09.73\00:36:11.20 So like, what do you think? 00:36:11.23\00:36:12.87 Doug: That's yeah, good question. 00:36:12.90\00:36:14.47 You articulated very well a question many people ask. 00:36:14.50\00:36:18.47 Well, first of all, how do you know you're born again? 00:36:18.51\00:36:20.78 Who has your heart? 00:36:20.81\00:36:22.84 Who do you like to talk about? 00:36:22.88\00:36:24.38 You can tell when a person loves football because they're always 00:36:24.41\00:36:26.55 talking about football or airplanes, whatever is in 00:36:26.58\00:36:28.68 their heart. 00:36:28.72\00:36:30.02 Jesus said, "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth 00:36:30.05\00:36:32.59 speaks," and when you receive Christ in your heart and you 00:36:32.62\00:36:35.86 love him and he's given you a new life, you're going to want 00:36:35.89\00:36:38.43 to tell other people. 00:36:38.46\00:36:39.76 You're not going to want to do things that offend him. 00:36:39.79\00:36:41.83 That doesn't mean it will never happen. 00:36:41.86\00:36:43.97 But that should be the exception and not the rule. 00:36:44.00\00:36:47.50 So people that are living a life of sin, they may have been born 00:36:47.54\00:36:51.24 again once, but they're--they stepped away from it and they 00:36:51.27\00:36:55.71 need to be reconverted. 00:36:55.74\00:36:58.21 You know, I did a sermon, Pastor Ross, and it's titled "Do You 00:36:58.25\00:37:02.98 Need to be Perfect to be Saved?" 00:37:03.02\00:37:05.29 And I address this, that, you know, what's the difference 00:37:05.32\00:37:07.99 between falling and, you know, you slip up, you sin, and living 00:37:08.02\00:37:11.59 a life of sin, and how perfect do we need to be to be saved? 00:37:11.63\00:37:16.40 So you might want to look at that, just on YouTube. 00:37:16.43\00:37:18.43 Type in "Doug Batchelor" and it'll pop up. 00:37:18.47\00:37:22.34 Jean: The apostle Paul says, speaking of this, "I die daily." 00:37:22.37\00:37:25.37 So this conversion, this being born again, isn't just a 00:37:25.41\00:37:29.11 one-time thing. 00:37:29.14\00:37:30.48 And then we go on sort of just, you know, living in a cloud. 00:37:30.51\00:37:32.35 No, Paul says, “I die daily.” In other words, every day, we need 00:37:32.38\00:37:35.65 to surrender to self. 00:37:35.68\00:37:37.02 Every day, we need to ask the Lord for the Holy Spirit to give 00:37:37.05\00:37:39.19 us victory and to sustain us and help us overcome. 00:37:39.22\00:37:42.42 So it's a day by day experience. 00:37:42.46\00:37:43.76 And as long as we are trusting in the Lord, we are seeking His 00:37:43.79\00:37:46.93 strength and His guidance, we can have assurance that God is 00:37:46.96\00:37:50.17 going to be with us and He's going to finish the work that 00:37:50.20\00:37:52.67 He's begun, so we can take heart. 00:37:52.70\00:37:54.80 Thank you, Daniel. 00:37:54.84\00:37:56.24 We've got Alfred listening in Canada. 00:37:56.27\00:37:57.81 Alfred, welcome to the program. 00:37:57.84\00:38:00.54 Alfred: Yes, thank you for taking my call. 00:38:00.58\00:38:03.71 I was wondering why is Jesus called the Son of David? 00:38:03.75\00:38:09.38 I mean, between David and Jesus, there's about 1000 years span 00:38:09.42\00:38:11.92 in between there. 00:38:11.95\00:38:13.25 So why was He called the Son of David? 00:38:13.29\00:38:16.16 Doug: Yeah, great question. 00:38:16.19\00:38:18.86 There's a prophet named Nathan, and Pastor Ross might find that. 00:38:18.89\00:38:21.66 I think you can find it in 1 Chronicles 17. 00:38:21.70\00:38:26.30 And Nathan the prophet comes to David, and he tells David that 00:38:26.33\00:38:30.77 "Your son that will come after you, he will build me a house 00:38:30.81\00:38:34.84 that will last forever." 00:38:34.88\00:38:36.58 And it's a prophecy. 00:38:36.61\00:38:37.98 It's called a messianic prophecy that God says. 00:38:38.01\00:38:40.75 Not only would the Messiah come through the seed of Abraham and 00:38:40.78\00:38:44.09 Isaac and Jacob and Judah, but then God narrows the focus. 00:38:44.12\00:38:47.72 He says, "And the Messiah would come through the line of David." 00:38:47.76\00:38:53.09 And you can read one of the first things it says in the 00:38:53.13\00:38:55.33 New Testament. 00:38:55.36\00:38:56.70 It gives the genealogy of Jesus, and it traces it back to David. 00:38:56.73\00:39:00.90 So, when--every Jew believed that when the Messiah came, it 00:39:00.94\00:39:05.24 would be from the line of David, and that's why they often called 00:39:05.27\00:39:09.61 him the Son of David. 00:39:09.64\00:39:10.98 It was sort of another title for the Messiah. 00:39:11.01\00:39:13.68 Jean: All right, very good, yes. 00:39:13.72\00:39:15.25 And you of course will read about that in 1 Kings chapter 5, 00:39:15.28\00:39:17.55 where it talks about Solomon, who built the house. 00:39:17.59\00:39:20.09 So that's sort of what you call a dual prophecy. 00:39:20.12\00:39:22.79 You have the literal son of David, Solomon, who built the 00:39:22.82\00:39:25.43 literal temple. 00:39:25.46\00:39:27.00 But of course, it's in a broader sense, speaking about Christ and 00:39:27.03\00:39:29.33 the temple that He was to build was the church. 00:39:29.36\00:39:31.53 So there's some parallels there. All right, thank you, Alfred. 00:39:31.57\00:39:34.84 We've got Tad, listening in North Carolina. 00:39:34.87\00:39:37.37 Tad, welcome to the program. 00:39:37.41\00:39:39.31 Tad: Thank you for taking my call. 00:39:39.34\00:39:40.64 It's my first time calling. So bear with me. 00:39:40.68\00:39:42.84 Doug: Thank you. 00:39:42.88\00:39:44.38 Tad: The question I have is it's about the millennium, 00:39:44.41\00:39:47.52 1,000 years. 00:39:47.55\00:39:49.08 And I know that, you know, in first Thessalonians 4:16 and 17, 00:39:49.12\00:39:52.82 that the righteous will be caught up to meet the Lord 00:39:52.85\00:39:55.62 in the air. 00:39:55.66\00:39:56.96 And I believe that's the beginning of the thousand years. 00:39:56.99\00:39:59.69 And but, and then you go to Revelation chapter 20. 00:39:59.73\00:40:02.63 I've been taught to believe that, you know, that the earth 00:40:02.66\00:40:06.60 is desolate for a thousand years. 00:40:06.63\00:40:08.64 There's no one living except for the devil and his angels during 00:40:08.67\00:40:12.51 that thousand years on this planet. 00:40:12.54\00:40:14.88 But in Revelation chapter 20, it seems to elude, let's see, it 00:40:14.91\00:40:22.08 says here in verse 2 of chapter 20, it says, "He laid hold of 00:40:22.12\00:40:28.42 that--the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and 00:40:28.46\00:40:31.29 Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and cast him 00:40:31.33\00:40:34.63 into the bottomless pit, and shut him up and set a seal on 00:40:34.66\00:40:37.63 him so that he should deceive the nations no more till a 00:40:37.67\00:40:41.20 thousand years were finished. 00:40:41.24\00:40:43.07 But after these things he must be released for a little while." 00:40:43.10\00:40:47.61 And then there's an interlude there about those who were 00:40:47.64\00:40:51.71 beheaded, and then it says, verse five, "But the rest of the 00:40:51.75\00:40:54.85 dead did not live again until a thousand years were finished. 00:40:54.88\00:40:57.85 This is the first resurrection." 00:40:57.89\00:40:59.92 And it says, then he's loose for a little season after the 00:40:59.95\00:41:03.29 thousand years to go out and deceive the nations that are in 00:41:03.32\00:41:07.03 the four corners of the earth. 00:41:07.03\00:41:08.33 So it see--it sounds like that these nations are still in 00:41:08.36\00:41:12.63 existence during the thousand years on Earth. 00:41:12.67\00:41:16.04 Doug: Okay, let's talk about that. 00:41:16.07\00:41:18.74 So, to specifically answer the question you're asking. 00:41:18.77\00:41:23.18 When the New Jerusalem comes down--well, first of all, let's 00:41:23.21\00:41:26.25 do it sequentially. 00:41:26.28\00:41:27.62 So when Jesus comes, the righteous go up. 00:41:27.65\00:41:30.99 The righteous in Christ are resurrected. 00:41:31.02\00:41:33.86 The dead in Christ rise. 00:41:33.89\00:41:35.22 All the good go up when Jesus comes. 00:41:35.26\00:41:38.76 Are we together? 00:41:38.79\00:41:41.50 Tad: How I read it too. 00:41:41.53\00:41:43.47 Doug: Okay, then it says we live and reign with Christ 00:41:43.50\00:41:45.87 for a thousand years in Revelation. 00:41:45.90\00:41:47.87 Then you read, 00:41:47.90\00:41:49.37 it says in chapter 21, the New Jerusalem comes down. 00:41:49.40\00:41:51.27 That means it's somewhere else. 00:41:51.31\00:41:52.64 Now it comes down from heaven to earth. 00:41:52.67\00:41:55.31 When Christ comes back, the Bible says in Revelation 20, 00:41:55.34\00:41:59.28 there's two resurrections. 00:41:59.31\00:42:00.72 You got the resurrection of the just and the resurrection of 00:42:00.75\00:42:02.75 the unjust. 00:42:02.78\00:42:04.59 Christ said the hour is coming in which all that are in the 00:42:04.62\00:42:06.99 graves will hear His voice. 00:42:07.02\00:42:08.36 They that have done good, the resurrection of life. 00:42:08.39\00:42:10.59 They that have done evil, the resurrection of damnation. 00:42:10.63\00:42:12.86 That's the second resurrection. 00:42:12.89\00:42:15.00 That's why it says, "Blessed and holy is he that has part in the 00:42:15.03\00:42:17.77 first resurrection." 00:42:17.80\00:42:19.10 You don't want to be in the second resurrection. 00:42:19.13\00:42:21.27 So the second resurrection takes place at the end of the 00:42:21.30\00:42:23.91 1,000 years. 00:42:23.94\00:42:25.24 This looses Satan from his prison. 00:42:25.27\00:42:27.98 He now has this vast army. 00:42:28.01\00:42:31.18 They call him Gog and Magog. 00:42:31.21\00:42:32.78 They were the enemies of God's people in the Old Testament that 00:42:32.81\00:42:35.82 he can attempt to manipulate to attack the City of God. 00:42:35.85\00:42:39.39 So, that explains why there are nations alive as they've 00:42:39.42\00:42:43.16 been--it's the wicked of all ages have been raised. 00:42:43.19\00:42:45.73 So, so far, does that make sense? 00:42:45.76\00:42:47.50 Even if you don't agree, does the logic make sense? 00:42:47.50\00:42:50.83 Tad: Yeah. Yeah, that does. 00:42:50.87\00:42:53.54 I mean, it does elude--it seems to sound like, you know, because 00:42:53.57\00:42:56.17 I've not been raised to believe that there's any nations alive 00:42:56.20\00:43:01.64 on the earth, but I've ran into people. 00:43:01.68\00:43:03.68 It's becoming more and more of a prevalent idea. 00:43:03.71\00:43:07.15 Doug: Well, keep in mind. 00:43:07.18\00:43:08.48 Now, I haven't, I haven't touched the surface yet. 00:43:08.52\00:43:11.19 You know, I wish I had an hour. 00:43:11.22\00:43:12.99 By the way, I've got a presentation on this, on the 00:43:13.02\00:43:15.62 thousand years of peace, that you can watch online. 00:43:15.66\00:43:18.26 But you read in Jeremiah chapter 4, verse 23. 00:43:18.29\00:43:21.53 Says, "All the cities of the earth are broken down, and there 00:43:21.56\00:43:24.97 is no man," and they--this is from the coming of the Lord, by 00:43:25.00\00:43:29.40 His presence and fierce anger. 00:43:29.44\00:43:31.11 You can read in Isaiah where it says, "I will make the earth 00:43:31.14\00:43:33.54 utterly empty." 00:43:33.58\00:43:34.88 And then Jeremiah says, "The slain of the Lord will cover the 00:43:34.91\00:43:37.55 earth from one end to another. 00:43:37.58\00:43:39.51 There is nobody to mourn or bury them." 00:43:39.55\00:43:42.52 Now, those who believe that the righteous are always alive or 00:43:42.55\00:43:45.22 someone's alive, righteous or wicked on earth, they can't 00:43:45.25\00:43:48.46 explain these Scriptures that say the earth is vacated during 00:43:48.49\00:43:51.79 the thousand years. 00:43:51.83\00:43:53.29 So, I think there's a lot of Scripture to support that we are 00:43:53.33\00:43:57.10 caught up. 00:43:57.13\00:43:58.47 We meet the Lord in the air. 00:43:58.50\00:43:59.80 All the righteous are gone during the millennium. 00:43:59.83\00:44:01.24 At the end, he comes back. 00:44:01.27\00:44:02.94 The wicked are judged. 00:44:02.97\00:44:04.31 He creates a new heaven and a new earth. 00:44:04.34\00:44:05.87 Now, we have that study guide, Pastor Ross. 00:44:05.91\00:44:07.68 Jean: We do. 00:44:07.71\00:44:09.01 It's called a "1000 Years of Peace," and it goes into great 00:44:09.04\00:44:10.65 detail, gives you all of the Bible verses, makes it 00:44:10.68\00:44:12.81 very clear. 00:44:12.85\00:44:14.08 So we'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:44:14.12\00:44:16.12 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:44:16.15\00:44:19.29 You can ask for the study guide. 00:44:19.32\00:44:20.66 It's called "1000 Years of Peace." 00:44:20.69\00:44:22.69 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone, and say, 00:44:22.72\00:44:26.70 "Bible Answers Live." 00:44:26.73\00:44:28.03 And then ask "1000 Years of Peace," and we'll be able to 00:44:28.06\00:44:30.50 send you a digital download of the lesson. 00:44:30.53\00:44:33.00 So, either way, you can get that. 00:44:33.03\00:44:35.27 Thank you, Tad. Great question. 00:44:35.30\00:44:37.97 We've got Henry in New York. 00:44:38.01\00:44:39.31 Henry, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:44:39.34\00:44:42.18 Henry: Thank you for having me. 00:44:42.21\00:44:43.55 During Christ's time, what language did the Romans speak? 00:44:43.58\00:44:48.72 Doug: All right, during the time of Jesus, what language did the 00:44:48.75\00:44:51.02 Romans speak? 00:44:51.05\00:44:52.39 They spoke Latin and Greek. 00:44:52.42\00:44:54.32 They spoke Latin as their native language, but many of the Roman 00:44:54.36\00:44:57.43 soldiers, not only came from Rome, but they would also annex 00:44:57.46\00:45:00.23 soldiers from different parts of the empire. 00:45:00.26\00:45:02.90 And Greek was sort of the language like English is the 00:45:02.93\00:45:05.43 international language for business. 00:45:05.47\00:45:07.30 Greek, because of Alexander the Great's broad conquest, was sort 00:45:07.34\00:45:11.47 of the language of learning, writing, and business. 00:45:11.51\00:45:14.28 So everyone spoke some Greek. 00:45:14.31\00:45:16.14 That's why above the head of Jesus, when they posted why he 00:45:16.18\00:45:19.55 was dying, they had to post that in three languages: Hebrew for 00:45:19.58\00:45:23.28 the locals, Greek, and Latin. 00:45:23.32\00:45:26.89 Jean: Okay, very good. 00:45:26.92\00:45:29.59 Next caller that we have is Jay in California. 00:45:29.62\00:45:30.99 Jay, welcome to the program. 00:45:31.03\00:45:32.76 Jay: Thank you, pastors, for taking my call. 00:45:32.79\00:45:35.00 I had a question, and it's probably a concern and question, 00:45:35.03\00:45:39.47 but I just wanted to know, the text, Leviticus 7:26 and 27. 00:45:39.50\00:45:48.78 And I also failed to mention, I guess, Leviticus 17:13 and 14, 00:45:48.81\00:45:55.72 I would like to know if those texts are still relevant 00:45:55.75\00:45:58.15 for today. 00:45:58.19\00:45:59.52 The Bible gives the clean meats to eat, as far as what 00:45:59.55\00:46:03.73 Christians, or His people, follow, the type of diet 00:46:03.76\00:46:08.06 they follow. 00:46:08.10\00:46:09.33 However, I have very rarely hear of leaders that, you know, know 00:46:09.36\00:46:14.90 about--that believe, as Christians, we are to follow a 00:46:14.94\00:46:17.77 healthy lifestyle. 00:46:17.81\00:46:19.44 I very rarely hear anyone speak about not eating the blood even 00:46:19.47\00:46:25.18 though God does give us the clean meat that there is to be 00:46:25.21\00:46:31.35 no blood in the meat if we eat it. 00:46:31.39\00:46:35.26 Because I understand that, even if it's kosher meat, there's a 00:46:35.29\00:46:37.86 little bit of blood in the kosher and then the taste is no 00:46:37.89\00:46:41.36 longer in the flesh meat. 00:46:41.40\00:46:43.70 So I just wonder if those texts are still relevant. 00:46:43.73\00:46:47.54 Doug: First of all, let me read it for our friends that are 00:46:47.57\00:46:49.40 listening, and I'll actually go back to, let me see, that's 00:46:49.44\00:46:53.38 Leviticus 7:26, "Moreover, you shall not eat any blood in any 00:46:53.41\00:46:57.45 of your dwellings, whether bird or beast. 00:46:57.48\00:46:59.88 Whoever eats any blood, that person will be cut off from 00:46:59.91\00:47:02.62 his people." 00:47:02.65\00:47:03.99 Not only do you find this in Leviticus, it mentions this also 00:47:04.02\00:47:06.65 in the New Testament. 00:47:06.69\00:47:08.02 If you go to--some people say, "Oh, that was an 00:47:08.06\00:47:09.49 Old Testament law." 00:47:09.52\00:47:10.83 Oh no, it wasn't. 00:47:10.86\00:47:12.16 You can read in Acts chapter 15. 00:47:12.19\00:47:13.76 It says you write to the Gentiles, these are non-Jews, 00:47:13.80\00:47:16.93 who are turning to God that we write to him to abstain from 00:47:16.97\00:47:20.27 things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things 00:47:20.30\00:47:23.67 strangled, and blood. 00:47:23.71\00:47:25.04 The reason they said "things strangled" is because, 00:47:25.07\00:47:27.38 especially with foul, they'd sometimes strangle it and then 00:47:27.41\00:47:30.48 they butcher it and eat it without draining the blood. 00:47:30.51\00:47:32.78 Whereas, the Jews would cut the throat and drain the blood out. 00:47:32.81\00:47:35.92 Now, if a person is eating clean meat and it's been killed in a 00:47:35.95\00:47:40.92 kosher way, where the blood is drained out, well, that 00:47:40.96\00:47:43.63 was permissible. 00:47:43.66\00:47:44.96 I'm sure there's still microscopic parts of the blood 00:47:44.99\00:47:47.50 left, but, you know, the Jews, they just understood you're 00:47:47.56\00:47:51.83 supposed to drain out all you can. 00:47:51.87\00:47:53.87 It is a New and an Old Testament law, and now we know that blood 00:47:53.90\00:47:59.74 can transfer disease from one animal to another. 00:47:59.77\00:48:03.18 It doesn't have to be the same species. 00:48:03.21\00:48:05.21 That's why you got mad cow disease. 00:48:05.25\00:48:07.35 And later they had mad pig disease. 00:48:07.38\00:48:09.35 And COVID, they believe, was originally incubated in 00:48:09.38\00:48:13.19 an animal. 00:48:13.22\00:48:14.56 Whether it was a bat or a pangolin, they don't know. 00:48:14.59\00:48:17.13 But disease does transfer from animal to animal. 00:48:17.16\00:48:21.16 That's why God said, "Don't be eating the blood of animals." 00:48:21.20\00:48:24.03 By the way, that goes back to Genesis. 00:48:24.07\00:48:26.80 It talked about blood too. 00:48:26.84\00:48:28.34 And God's speaking to Noah. 00:48:28.37\00:48:30.57 So, yes, Christians shouldn't eat blood. 00:48:30.61\00:48:34.81 I remember when I worked with the Navajo Indians. 00:48:34.84\00:48:36.98 They used to make blood sausage. 00:48:37.01\00:48:38.35 I thought, oh, that gave me the creeps. 00:48:38.38\00:48:42.42 All right. What's next? 00:48:42.45\00:48:45.12 Jean: We've got Hector, listening in Florida. 00:48:45.15\00:48:46.45 Hector, welcome to the program. 00:48:46.49\00:48:47.82 Hector: Thank you. Good evening, pastors. 00:48:47.86\00:48:52.06 Did the falling of Lucifer take place before or after money 00:48:52.09\00:48:57.70 was created? 00:48:57.73\00:48:59.57 If that's so, if fall after man was created, how come they allow 00:48:59.60\00:49:06.84 him to turn the man on earth? 00:49:06.88\00:49:09.58 Doug: All right. 00:49:09.61\00:49:10.91 Well, I think that Lucifer fell before man was created. 00:49:10.95\00:49:14.12 And, you know, in part, part of the reason God made this new 00:49:14.15\00:49:17.05 world and told the creatures to be fruitful and multiply is to 00:49:17.09\00:49:21.92 help replace the vacuum of one third of the angels that had 00:49:21.96\00:49:26.39 been evicted from heaven. 00:49:26.43\00:49:28.23 So, I'm pretty sure that the--we don't know all the timing of 00:49:28.26\00:49:31.80 everything that happened, but pretty sure that Lucifer fell 00:49:31.83\00:49:34.74 and the rebellion happened in heaven before our world 00:49:34.77\00:49:37.84 was made. 00:49:37.87\00:49:39.21 What do you think, Pastor Ross? 00:49:39.24\00:49:40.54 Jean: Yeah, absolutely. 00:49:40.58\00:49:41.91 I mean, if you read the context just in Genesis chapter 12, it 00:49:41.94\00:49:43.65 talks about this war in heaven and then the devil, the Lucifer, 00:49:43.68\00:49:46.88 the dragon, is cast out of heaven, and then it says he's 00:49:46.92\00:49:50.19 cast down at the cross. 00:49:50.22\00:49:51.52 So yeah, it appears that that appeared sometime. 00:49:51.55\00:49:53.69 But I think he's also--Hector is also asking that if Lucifer fell 00:49:53.72\00:49:57.43 before the creation of the world, why did God allow him to 00:49:57.46\00:50:00.36 come tempt Adam and Eve? 00:50:00.40\00:50:02.40 Doug: Well, I think God allowed Lucifer. 00:50:02.43\00:50:04.50 He gave him enough leash to share his perspective. 00:50:04.53\00:50:09.47 See, the reason that these angels followed Lucifer is 00:50:09.50\00:50:12.11 Lucifer was allowed to tell the angels he would be a better God 00:50:12.14\00:50:16.48 than God. 00:50:16.51\00:50:17.85 He basically was saying that "God is not fair. 00:50:17.88\00:50:19.55 He's arbitrary. His laws are unreasonable. 00:50:19.58\00:50:22.25 But if I was in charge, we'd have great freedom 00:50:22.28\00:50:24.32 and happiness." 00:50:24.35\00:50:25.69 And so God does not force His creatures. 00:50:25.72\00:50:27.99 He allowed the angels to, the ones he chose, one third of them 00:50:28.02\00:50:31.79 followed Lucifer, and He allowed the unfallen worlds to be at 00:50:31.83\00:50:36.13 least tempted with the same opportunity to doubt God and 00:50:36.16\00:50:40.07 listen to Lucifer. 00:50:40.10\00:50:41.40 That's what Adam and Eve did. 00:50:41.44\00:50:42.77 God said, "Don't eat it." 00:50:42.80\00:50:44.11 Lucifer said, "You'll be like God if you eat it," which is 00:50:44.14\00:50:46.01 what he wanted. 00:50:46.04\00:50:47.34 And so, yeah, that's the reason He did it. 00:50:47.38\00:50:51.51 Jean: Okay, very good. 00:50:51.55\00:50:54.22 We've got Carmen, listening in New York. 00:50:54.25\00:50:55.58 Carmen, welcome to the program. 00:50:55.62\00:50:56.92 Carmen: Good evening, pastors. 00:50:56.95\00:50:58.95 My question is on Revelation 14:6 and 7, but more 7, where it 00:50:58.99\00:51:06.33 says the hour of His judgment has come. 00:51:06.36\00:51:10.33 My question is, are we being judged at this moment? 00:51:10.37\00:51:14.47 Doug: Pastor Ross? 00:51:14.50\00:51:15.80 Jean: Yeah, I mean. Well, first of all, yeah. 00:51:15.84\00:51:18.37 This is God's last warning message to go to the world. 00:51:18.41\00:51:19.84 Immediately following the proclamation of the three angels 00:51:19.87\00:51:22.31 messages in verse 14, it talks about the second coming 00:51:22.34\00:51:25.58 of Christ. 00:51:25.61\00:51:26.95 And part of this threefold message is the hour of His 00:51:26.98\00:51:29.68 judgment has come. 00:51:29.72\00:51:31.02 And of course, that's the fulfillment of a prophecy you'll 00:51:31.05\00:51:33.02 find in Daniel chapter 8, verse 14, where it talks about the 00:51:33.05\00:51:35.52 cleansing of the sanctuary. 00:51:35.56\00:51:37.29 So there's different parts to this judgment. 00:51:37.33\00:51:39.59 It is a judgment, meaning that truth has been revealed in 00:51:39.63\00:51:42.46 the world. 00:51:42.50\00:51:43.83 And people are making decisions for that truth, and based upon 00:51:43.87\00:51:47.07 their decision, well, they're going to be judged either in 00:51:47.10\00:51:50.47 favor at the end. 00:51:50.51\00:51:51.84 They receive the seal of God or they reject the truth and they 00:51:51.87\00:51:54.08 receive the mark of the beast. 00:51:54.11\00:51:55.64 Is this judgment happening now? 00:51:55.68\00:51:58.01 I believe so. In heaven. 00:51:58.05\00:51:59.71 People are making up their mind. 00:51:59.75\00:52:01.95 That doesn't mean that there's a certain time when your name 00:52:01.98\00:52:04.29 shows up in the books of heaven. 00:52:04.32\00:52:06.32 It could be tomorrow at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. 00:52:06.35\00:52:09.06 And suddenly, you're saved or lost 00:52:09.09\00:52:10.83 based upon where you at there. 00:52:10.86\00:52:13.03 I think God looks at our life as a whole and looks at the 00:52:13.06\00:52:15.13 decisions we are making, but everybody is making a decision. 00:52:15.16\00:52:18.73 We are settling into the truth, and it's the little decisions 00:52:18.77\00:52:22.34 that we make every day that determines what our eternal 00:52:22.37\00:52:25.01 destiny is. 00:52:25.04\00:52:26.27 Once that judgment is finished, Jesus says, he that is holy, let 00:52:26.31\00:52:29.34 him be holy still. 00:52:29.38\00:52:30.68 He that is filthy, let him be filthy still. 00:52:30.71\00:52:32.71 Probation closes, seven last plagues, and then Jesus comes. 00:52:32.75\00:52:37.05 Doug: Absolutely. 00:52:37.09\00:52:38.39 Jean: You know, we have a study guide called "Angel Messages 00:52:38.42\00:52:41.02 From Space," and it talks about the three angels messages. 00:52:41.06\00:52:44.63 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:52:44.66\00:52:46.59 That's 800-835-6747 or you can dial #250. 00:52:46.63\00:52:52.13 Doug: And the lesson on "God sets a date for the judgment." 00:52:52.17\00:52:55.87 Also dials right in on this. 00:52:55.90\00:52:58.11 Jean: All right. Maybe time for one more. 00:52:58.14\00:53:00.88 We've got Cammy, listening in Washington. 00:53:00.91\00:53:02.21 Cammy, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:53:02.24\00:53:04.55 Cammy: I can't believe you got me in. 00:53:04.58\00:53:06.18 I was so happy to hear that! 00:53:06.21\00:53:08.08 Doug: I wish we had more time. 00:53:08.12\00:53:10.19 Cammy: I send my--I set my alarm for this program so 00:53:10.22\00:53:13.19 I don't miss. 00:53:13.22\00:53:14.52 I'm addicted to it. 00:53:14.56\00:53:15.86 Doug: Oh, good. We hope it's habit forming. 00:53:15.89\00:53:17.43 Cammy: Thank you. My question. 00:53:17.46\00:53:18.86 Now, this is a question I've had for a long time. 00:53:18.89\00:53:20.50 I've been wanting to call you guys. 00:53:20.53\00:53:21.83 I finally did it and got through. 00:53:21.86\00:53:23.63 Did--when Cain killed Abel and left and took a sister, so they 00:53:23.67\00:53:30.17 really lost three kids that day, did Adam and Eve go visit him 00:53:30.21\00:53:36.85 and let them know, "We forgive you. 00:53:36.88\00:53:38.45 We love you. 00:53:38.48\00:53:39.98 We want to stay connected," 00:53:40.02\00:53:41.62 the way God did with Adam and Eve, and the way we should with 00:53:41.65\00:53:43.99 our kids? 00:53:44.02\00:53:45.25 Doug: Yeah. It's hard to imagine that there was no communication 00:53:45.29\00:53:48.69 because, well, there's not that many people in the world. 00:53:48.72\00:53:51.89 And you do read, when you get to Genesis chapter 6, that the sons 00:53:51.93\00:53:55.06 of God, meaning the descendants of Seth and Adam and Eve, saw 00:53:55.10\00:53:58.53 the daughters of men. 00:53:58.57\00:54:00.40 They were the daughters of Cain, and they took them wives. 00:54:00.44\00:54:03.67 You know, I think they probably interacted some. 00:54:03.71\00:54:06.34 They had to or that wouldn't have happened, just like Samson 00:54:06.37\00:54:09.18 interacted with the Philistines. 00:54:09.21\00:54:11.25 I think Adam and Eve were still in communication. 00:54:11.28\00:54:14.08 Hopefully, they communicated that Cain could be forgiven if 00:54:14.12\00:54:17.42 he would repent and turn to God. 00:54:17.45\00:54:20.02 There's no record of that communication 00:54:20.06\00:54:22.56 or of his repentance. 00:54:22.59\00:54:24.06 So, it's--we're hopeful that they at least reconciled in 00:54:24.09\00:54:29.80 their human relations. 00:54:29.83\00:54:31.27 Jean: You know, so it's interesting that it mentions 00:54:31.30\00:54:32.73 that Cain moved out. 00:54:32.77\00:54:34.14 He took his wife, and they left. He went to a different place. 00:54:34.17\00:54:36.91 So it almost--he wasn't kicked out. 00:54:36.94\00:54:39.31 It was his choice to separate himself from his parents. 00:54:39.34\00:54:42.34 Doug: That's right. 00:54:42.38\00:54:43.68 And, listening friends, we're going to sign off here. 00:54:43.71\00:54:46.01 We do this in a couple of stages, and we just share every 00:54:46.05\00:54:49.18 week so people will understand that we have satellite stations 00:54:49.22\00:54:53.39 carrying the program and land based, and they have two 00:54:53.42\00:54:55.79 different clocks. 00:54:55.82\00:54:57.16 So we're going to say "God bless, good night" for those 00:54:57.19\00:54:59.19 listening on satellite, for the rest of you, don't go anywhere. 00:54:59.23\00:55:02.16 Pastor Ross and I will be back in just a moment to do rapid 00:55:02.20\00:55:05.20 fire internet questions that have come in. 00:55:05.23\00:55:10.37 male announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:10.41\00:55:13.07 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:13.11\00:55:16.64 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:16.68\00:55:20.95 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:20.98\00:55:26.79 Jean: Hello, friends, and welcome back. 00:55:26.82\00:55:28.12 We're going to take your email questions. 00:55:28.16\00:55:30.09 If you'd like to send us an email Bible question, the email 00:55:30.13\00:55:32.56 address is BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:32.59\00:55:37.20 Pastor Doug, we have Coral asking what is the Bible's 00:55:37.23\00:55:41.84 perspective on the death penalty? 00:55:41.87\00:55:43.91 Doug: Well, you know, God doesn't want anyone to perish, 00:55:43.94\00:55:47.04 but there is a penalty for death or for murder, and it was the 00:55:47.08\00:55:52.21 death penalty. 00:55:52.25\00:55:53.55 And you know, God says, "Eye for eye. 00:55:53.58\00:55:56.12 Tooth for tooth. 00:55:56.15\00:55:57.45 Life for life." 00:55:57.49\00:55:58.82 If someone killed a person deliberately, as the Bible says, 00:55:58.85\00:56:02.99 with a high hand, the penalty was execution. 00:56:03.02\00:56:06.33 And so, states and countries that support capital punishment 00:56:06.36\00:56:11.20 for the highest crimes that is biblical. 00:56:11.23\00:56:15.30 Jean: Okay. 00:56:15.34\00:56:16.57 Sandra is asking, "I heard that there will be animal sacrifices 00:56:16.60\00:56:20.91 in the millennial reign throughout and for all eternity. 00:56:20.94\00:56:24.68 Is this biblical?" 00:56:24.71\00:56:27.28 Doug: No, I think they're listening to someone who 00:56:27.32\00:56:29.38 believes that the temple is going to be reinstituted during 00:56:29.42\00:56:31.82 the millennial reign and there's going to be sacrificing lambs, 00:56:31.85\00:56:34.86 and I think they misunderstand some Scriptures. 00:56:34.89\00:56:37.59 God's temple, in those passages, is speaking of His church, and 00:56:37.63\00:56:42.00 we're going to be in heaven because of the Lamb, the blood 00:56:42.03\00:56:44.80 of Jesus that you see in Revelation, but that's symbolic. 00:56:44.83\00:56:48.00 There's no death, you read in Revelation 21. 00:56:48.04\00:56:50.64 When we get to heaven, no more pain, sorrow, or death, and that 00:56:50.67\00:56:55.01 would include animals's death. 00:56:55.04\00:56:56.91 Nothing's going to die. 00:56:56.95\00:56:58.25 Jean: Okay. 00:56:58.28\00:56:59.61 We have Nisa who's asking: Should a Christian serve in jury 00:56:59.65\00:57:02.28 duty knowing that their decision can affect a person's life 00:57:02.32\00:57:06.35 and freedom? 00:57:06.39\00:57:08.19 Jean: Well, there's nothing immoral with a juror being 00:57:08.22\00:57:14.50 involved in investigating justice in their community. 00:57:14.56\00:57:18.70 So, I, you know, I've got a friend that was on--called to be 00:57:18.73\00:57:22.50 on jury duty, and it was involved with a murder. 00:57:22.54\00:57:24.91 And unfortunately, he had to be exposed to some awful testimony, 00:57:24.94\00:57:28.94 but there's no sin in that. 00:57:28.98\00:57:31.68 And it's, you know, considered part of your being 00:57:31.71\00:57:34.62 in a community. 00:57:34.65\00:57:35.98 Part of the Mosaic law said that there were often trials where 00:57:36.02\00:57:39.92 the elders would listen to the evidence and they served as the 00:57:39.95\00:57:42.26 jury, and they'd make a joint decision. 00:57:42.29\00:57:45.79 Even in the time of Christ, they had a--even though it was a 00:57:45.83\00:57:48.80 kangaroo court, they had the Sanhedrin, they had a jury, so 00:57:48.83\00:57:51.77 there's no biblical, moral problem with jury duty. 00:57:51.80\00:57:56.14 I usually have to try and get out of it because, as a pastor, 00:57:56.17\00:57:58.97 you can't get locked up for weeks on a trial, and you can't 00:57:59.01\00:58:02.68 minister to people. 00:58:02.71\00:58:04.01 Hey, thank you, listening friends. 00:58:04.05\00:58:05.35 That's all the time we have for tonight. 00:58:05.38\00:58:06.85 You can still send us your internet or email questions 00:58:06.88\00:58:09.35 at AmazingFacts.org. 00:58:09.38\00:58:11.82 God bless. 00:58:11.85\00:58:13.15 We'll study again together next week. 00:58:13.19\00:58:17.39 male announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate 00:58:17.43\00:58:20.66 answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:20.70\00:58:23.67
