¤¤¤ 00:00:01.10\00:00:02.96 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.47 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted; 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.70 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.41 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.44\00:00:16.34 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.38\00:00:19.68 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate 00:00:19.71\00:00:23.85 and practical answer to all your Bible questions. 00:00:23.89\00:00:28.36 This broadcast is a previously-recorded episode. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.19 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.80 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.83\00:00:38.37 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.40\00:00:43.71 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.88 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.91\00:00:50.18 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends, would you like to hear 00:00:50.21\00:00:52.85 an Amazing Fact? 00:00:52.88\00:00:54.75 Well, it's no longer the stuff of Star Trek, Star Wars, and 00:00:54.78\00:00:58.09 science fiction. 00:00:58.12\00:00:59.45 In January 2024, the British Ministry of Defense announced 00:00:59.49\00:01:03.56 that they successfully test fired a laser weapon to take out 00:01:03.59\00:01:07.60 an aircraft. 00:01:07.66\00:01:08.96 Laser directed energy weapons, or LDEWs, use an intense light 00:01:09.00\00:01:14.10 beam to cut through their target, and they can strike at 00:01:14.14\00:01:16.77 the speed of light. 00:01:16.81\00:01:18.34 The range of the device called DragonFire is still classified, 00:01:18.37\00:01:22.84 but the sophisticated laser cannon is so precise, it can hit 00:01:22.88\00:01:26.68 a silver dollar from a mile away. 00:01:26.72\00:01:29.35 This will be especially useful to defend against the increasing 00:01:29.38\00:01:32.52 number of consumer drones that are being used, in warfare. 00:01:32.55\00:01:36.42 The DragonFire laser is not only fast, accurate, and deadly, it's 00:01:36.46\00:01:41.13 comparatively inexpensive to operate. 00:01:41.16\00:01:43.80 For example, a typical Tomahawk cruise missile costs roughly 00:01:43.83\00:01:48.04 $1.5 million, one missile. 00:01:48.07\00:01:50.71 The DragonFire cannon can shoot down a target for roughly $13 00:01:50.74\00:01:55.58 in electricity. 00:01:55.61\00:01:57.48 As I remember, Pastor Ross, the Bible says, "God's got a big 00:01:57.51\00:02:00.98 laser that he's going to use at the Second Coming." 00:02:01.02\00:02:04.15 Jëan Ross: That's right. 00:02:04.19\00:02:05.49 Pastor Doug, it's going to be a gloriously bright light, 00:02:05.52\00:02:07.99 the Bible says. 00:02:08.02\00:02:09.32 "For when He comes, the wicked are destroyed with the 00:02:09.36\00:02:10.96 brightness of His coming." 00:02:10.99\00:02:13.09 Doug: Probably the verse that sounds the most laser-like is 00:02:13.13\00:02:16.30 when you read in 2 Thessalonians 2, verse 8, "And then the 00:02:16.33\00:02:19.90 lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with 00:02:19.93\00:02:23.04 the breath of His mouth and--" notice--"destroy with the 00:02:23.07\00:02:25.61 brightness of His coming." 00:02:25.64\00:02:27.71 Something bright happening there. 00:02:27.74\00:02:29.78 It's kind of like when the sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, it 00:02:29.81\00:02:35.12 says, "So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them." 00:02:35.15\00:02:37.99 They went into the sanctuary, and, evidently they were drunk, 00:02:38.02\00:02:41.12 and they brought in strange fire, and fire came down like 00:02:41.16\00:02:44.69 a laser. 00:02:44.73\00:02:46.03 And then you also have that verse in Hebrews 10:27 speaking 00:02:46.06\00:02:49.96 of those that reject God's truth, it says, "But they can 00:02:50.00\00:02:53.40 only look forward to fearful expectation of judgment, and 00:02:53.44\00:02:57.44 fiery indignation that will devour the adversaries," like 00:02:57.47\00:03:01.68 those that are destroyed by the brightness of His coming. 00:03:01.71\00:03:05.01 You know, I sometimes use the illustration that, if you go out 00:03:05.05\00:03:10.19 at night with a flashlight in the woods, and you tip over a 00:03:10.22\00:03:14.46 rock, you know, all of these creepy crawlies come out; they 00:03:14.49\00:03:19.76 run from the light. 00:03:19.79\00:03:21.80 But, if you set that light up out in the field, the moths come 00:03:21.83\00:03:25.37 to the light. 00:03:25.40\00:03:26.74 So some run from the light, and some go to the light. 00:03:26.77\00:03:28.50 And, when Jesus comes, everybody's either a cockroach 00:03:28.54\00:03:31.37 or a butterfly. 00:03:31.41\00:03:32.71 Jëan: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:03:32.74\00:03:34.04 Actually, Revelation chapter 6 describes that; it says, 00:03:34.08\00:03:36.81 "The wicked turn at the rocks in the mountains. 00:03:36.85\00:03:38.35 They say, 'Fall on us, hide us from the face of him who sits 00:03:38.38\00:03:41.48 upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!'" 00:03:41.52\00:03:44.12 So they're wanting to hide from that glorious light appearing of 00:03:44.15\00:03:47.46 Christ when He comes a second time. 00:03:47.49\00:03:48.82 But, for the righteous, "They look up and say, 'This is 00:03:48.86\00:03:51.23 our God. 00:03:51.26\00:03:52.59 We've waited for Him. 00:03:52.63\00:03:53.93 He will save us.'" 00:03:53.96\00:03:55.23 Doug: That's right. 00:03:55.26\00:03:56.60 Well, you know, the Bible is clear about one thing. 00:03:56.63\00:03:57.93 The world as we know it is not going to last, and everybody 00:03:57.97\00:04:00.14 listening right now, even if you're in perfect health, 00:04:00.17\00:04:02.44 you're terminal. 00:04:02.47\00:04:03.81 These lives are short, and all of us will someday have our 00:04:03.84\00:04:07.58 last night. 00:04:07.61\00:04:08.94 And there is going to be a last night on earth. 00:04:08.98\00:04:12.71 We need to be ready for the end. 00:04:12.75\00:04:15.55 This life is to prepare for the life that lasts forever. 00:04:15.58\00:04:18.72 And, if you'd like to know how to prepare, we've got a 00:04:18.75\00:04:21.09 free offer. 00:04:21.12\00:04:22.46 Jëan: We do; their probation 00:07:17.90\00:07:20.34 was closed. 00:07:20.37\00:07:21.67 And they thought, you know, maybe that's where you can get 00:07:21.70\00:07:23.97 seven years of tribulation. 00:07:24.01\00:07:25.61 Others have thought that there'll be--And, by the way, 00:07:25.64\00:07:27.94 there's two phases of the time of trouble. 00:07:27.98\00:07:30.31 You might call one the small time of trouble. 00:07:30.35\00:07:32.71 That's when you can't buy or sell. 00:07:32.75\00:07:34.62 Then Revelation 13 says, ultimately, there is a death 00:07:34.65\00:07:37.35 decree, and that's very intense; that's the seven last plagues. 00:07:37.39\00:07:41.59 And it's hard to imagine the life on earth going on for seven 00:07:41.62\00:07:45.63 years with the oceans being blood, boils, great heat. 00:07:45.66\00:07:49.26 I mean, that seems like it's going to be a condensed period 00:07:49.30\00:07:52.30 of time or more concentrated. 00:07:52.33\00:07:54.00 Jëan: There is a verse, actually, it's interesting. 00:07:54.04\00:07:56.00 Revelation chapter 18, verse 8, we're talking about the seven 00:07:56.04\00:07:58.91 last plagues. 00:07:58.94\00:08:00.31 This is what the verse says, it says, "Therefore her plagues 00:08:00.34\00:08:02.81 shall come in one day," and the her there he is referring 00:08:02.84\00:08:05.08 to Babylon. 00:08:05.11\00:08:06.45 This is the downfall of Babylon. 00:08:06.48\00:08:07.78 We know that the plagues as described in the Book of 00:08:07.82\00:08:09.95 Revelation begins with the sea turning to blood and all this, 00:08:09.98\00:08:12.55 there's a painful sore, and then the sea turns to blood, and 00:08:12.59\00:08:14.96 so on. 00:08:14.99\00:08:16.32 But we know in Bible prophecy, one prophetic day is equal to 00:08:16.36\00:08:18.49 one literal year. 00:08:18.53\00:08:19.83 So that's led some scholars to feel that the seven last plagues 00:08:19.86\00:08:22.83 will fall in about the period of a year because it says, "Her 00:08:22.86\00:08:26.07 plague shall come in one day." 00:08:26.10\00:08:27.64 That's Revelation 18, verse 8. Doug: I can't even imagine a 00:08:27.67\00:08:31.14 year like that. 00:08:31.17\00:08:32.47 That'd be a bad year. 00:08:32.51\00:08:33.84 Jëan: It would be. 00:08:33.88\00:08:35.18 Doug: So don't worry about the time of trouble, friends. 00:08:35.21\00:08:36.54 Just be faithful day by day is the key. 00:08:36.58\00:08:39.31 Jëan: And God promised to take care of His people during 00:08:39.35\00:08:41.85 that time. 00:08:41.88\00:08:43.22 Doug: Now, we do have a book called "Anything But Secret!" 00:08:43.25\00:08:45.02 And the last half of that book talks about the tribulation. 00:08:45.05\00:08:48.92 And, if people would like a free copy of that, we have it. 00:08:48.96\00:08:51.09 Jëan: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747, and you 00:08:51.13\00:08:54.96 can ask for the book. 00:08:55.00\00:08:56.30 It's called "Anything But Secret!" 00:08:56.33\00:08:58.23 It's one of the Amazing Facts study guides. 00:08:58.27\00:08:59.80 But I think it's also actually, that's the book. 00:08:59.83\00:09:01.54 Doug: Sermon book, yeah. 00:09:01.57\00:09:02.87 Jëan: That's one of the books. 00:09:02.90\00:09:04.87 800-835-6747. 00:09:04.91\00:09:06.81 You can dial #250 on your smartphone, and ask for the book 00:09:06.84\00:09:10.35 as well. 00:09:10.38\00:09:11.68 We have Anna listening in Oregon. 00:09:11.71\00:09:13.05 Anna, welcome to the program. 00:09:13.08\00:09:15.78 Anna: Evening, pastors. 00:09:15.82\00:09:17.12 Doug: Evening. 00:09:17.15\00:09:18.52 Anna: My question is, what is the true meaning of speaking 00:09:18.55\00:09:23.12 in tongues? 00:09:23.16\00:09:24.59 Doug: I'm glad you asked. 00:09:24.63\00:09:25.96 I wish I had that question more often. 00:09:25.99\00:09:27.96 It's just close to my heart because, when I first became a 00:09:28.00\00:09:30.57 Christian, all of my friends I worship with were what we 00:09:30.60\00:09:33.84 would call Charismatic Christians. 00:09:33.87\00:09:36.14 And they practiced speaking what you would call speaking in 00:09:36.17\00:09:39.31 tongues where, you know, they would ostensibly go into this 00:09:39.34\00:09:44.01 Spirit led trance where they would begin babbling 00:09:44.05\00:09:46.98 and muttering. 00:09:47.02\00:09:48.32 And they said this is a heavenly language and the heavenly 00:09:48.35\00:09:50.09 prayer language. 00:09:50.12\00:09:51.42 And I'd say, "What are you praying?" 00:09:51.45\00:09:52.79 They said, "I don't know." 00:09:52.82\00:09:54.12 Or someone might come along and translate for them. 00:09:54.16\00:09:55.49 And, you know, that's a comparatively new phenomenon 00:09:55.52\00:10:00.50 in Christianity. 00:10:00.53\00:10:02.23 The speaking in tongues that you see in the Bible--First of all, 00:10:02.26\00:10:05.83 you can read in Mark chapter 16 where Jesus said among the signs 00:10:05.87\00:10:10.87 that His Spirit would fall upon them, it says, "They will speak 00:10:10.91\00:10:14.18 with new tongues." 00:10:14.21\00:10:15.51 The word tongues means languages. 00:10:15.54\00:10:17.51 And you see, in Acts chapter 2, the fulfillment of that. 00:10:17.55\00:10:20.65 When the Holy Spirit was poured out, there were Jews visiting 00:10:20.68\00:10:23.45 from all over the Roman Empire on the day of Pentecost; they 00:10:23.49\00:10:26.09 had come on a pilgrimage. 00:10:26.12\00:10:28.16 And the Lord gave the 12 apostles, and others in the 00:10:28.19\00:10:31.29 upper room, the supernatural ability to speak languages they 00:10:31.33\00:10:36.10 did not formally know or study for the purpose of preaching the 00:10:36.13\00:10:40.74 gospel to these visiting Jews. 00:10:40.77\00:10:43.57 Other times in the early days of the church, people were given 00:10:43.61\00:10:47.58 the the gift of tongues to speak in languages they did not know. 00:10:47.61\00:10:52.65 See, at the Tower of Babel, God cursed man, and there was 00:10:52.68\00:10:56.85 confusion they couldn't understand. 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.02 At Pentecost, He reversed the curse and gave the disciples 00:10:59.05\00:11:02.39 the ability to communicate the gospel in any language. 00:11:02.42\00:11:05.93 But they were real languages of the world. 00:11:05.96\00:11:07.76 It doesn't say that they just babbled or muttered. 00:11:07.76\00:11:10.47 Paul says in f1 Corinthians 14, "Except you utter by the tongue 00:11:10.50\00:11:14.84 words to be easy, easy to be understood, no one will know 00:11:14.87\00:11:17.41 what you're saying." 00:11:17.44\00:11:18.77 You're speaking into the air. 00:11:18.81\00:11:20.11 Paul said, "I'd rather speak five words where, by my tongue, 00:11:20.14\00:11:22.34 I might educate or teach someone than 10,000 in a language 00:11:22.38\00:11:25.91 someone doesn't understand." 00:11:25.95\00:11:27.72 So we got a gift book on it. 00:11:27.75\00:11:30.42 I could say much more, but I'd launch into sermon number 36. 00:11:30.45\00:11:33.69 So, better save that. 00:11:33.72\00:11:35.12 Jëan: That's right; that book is called "Understanding Tongues," 00:11:35.16\00:11:37.33 and we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:11:37.36\00:11:39.19 Again, the number is 800-835-6747. 00:11:39.23\00:11:42.76 Or you can dial #250, ask for Bible Answers Live if you're 00:11:42.80\00:11:46.70 going to use your phone, and say, I want the book called 00:11:46.74\00:11:49.67 "Understanding Tongues," and we'll be happy to send it to 00:11:49.70\00:11:52.37 anyone again in North America. 00:11:52.41\00:11:54.18 If you're outside of the U.S., just go to our 00:11:54.21\00:11:56.21 website, AmazingFacts.org. 00:11:56.24\00:11:58.95 Next caller that we have is Ryan, and he's listening in 00:11:58.98\00:12:01.08 New Mexico. 00:12:01.12\00:12:02.42 Ryan, welcome to Bible Answers Live! 00:12:02.45\00:12:05.39 Ryan: Hello, how y'all doing today? 00:12:05.42\00:12:06.99 Doug: Doing good, thanks for calling. 00:12:07.02\00:12:10.29 Ryan: My question is, is keeping the Sabbath on the pagan Roman 00:12:10.33\00:12:14.66 calendar, the Gregorian calendar seven day cycle? 00:12:14.73\00:12:18.87 It only uses the sun. 00:12:18.90\00:12:20.24 Is that actually sun worship? 00:12:20.27\00:12:21.94 I mean, because it's only dealing with the sun, that seven 00:12:21.97\00:12:25.54 day cycle. 00:12:25.57\00:12:26.91 I think, you know, pagan Rome got that from the looney solar 00:12:26.94\00:12:32.78 calendar, you know what I mean? 00:12:32.81\00:12:34.75 Doug: Yeah, you've got two calendars. 00:12:34.78\00:12:37.09 When Jesus was born, Julius Caesar had already lived and 00:12:37.12\00:12:40.12 died when Jesus was born. 00:12:40.16\00:12:41.89 And they were using what they called the Julian Calendar. 00:12:41.92\00:12:44.99 And, you know, the calendar names that we use, and even the 00:12:45.03\00:12:49.03 names for the days of the week, we get most of that from 00:12:49.06\00:12:52.03 the Romans. 00:12:52.07\00:12:53.40 The Romans got some of it influenced by the Greeks, and 00:12:53.44\00:12:55.67 you could even trace some of it back maybe to Babylon. 00:12:55.70\00:12:57.77 But the days of the the week, the day of the sun is Sunday, 00:12:57.81\00:13:03.28 the day of the moon is Monday, so forth, you know. 00:13:03.31\00:13:06.31 Wednesday was Odin's Day. 00:13:06.35\00:13:07.65 Thursday, it was Thor's day. 00:13:07.68\00:13:09.02 Saturday was Saturn day. 00:13:09.05\00:13:10.35 In the Bible, they never used any of the Roman names. 00:13:10.39\00:13:14.16 They use first day, second day, third day. 00:13:14.19\00:13:16.12 Now, we know what the days of the week are. 00:13:16.16\00:13:17.76 The Romans had a seven day week, and the Jews had a seven day 00:13:17.79\00:13:20.20 week, and we all have a seven day week. 00:13:20.23\00:13:22.03 The seven day week of the Romans; their first day of the 00:13:22.06\00:13:26.50 Jews was what the Romans call Sunday, or we call Sunday. 00:13:26.53\00:13:29.54 And, even in the Bible, we know Jesus rose the first day of 00:13:29.57\00:13:32.17 the week. 00:13:32.21\00:13:33.54 It's not sun worship if we're using a calendar for keeping 00:13:33.58\00:13:37.45 appointments, about what time of year it is for planting 00:13:37.48\00:13:40.42 or whatever. 00:13:40.45\00:13:41.78 What are you going to call the months? 00:13:41.82\00:13:43.12 Are you going to use the Jewish names for the months? 00:13:43.15\00:13:44.62 But the calendar never affects the weekly cycle. 00:13:44.65\00:13:48.46 Now, it doesn't matter whether you're using the Julian 00:13:48.49\00:13:50.46 calendar--when they switched from the Julian calendar to the 00:13:50.49\00:13:53.53 Gregorian calendar--You can help me, Pastor Ross. 00:13:53.56\00:13:56.16 You've done this meeting before. 00:13:56.20\00:13:58.20 It was October 5, Thursday, 1582 I think. 00:13:58.23\00:14:06.21 And then it went, the next day, went to October 15, Friday. 00:14:06.24\00:14:13.35 So they went all the way from the 5th to the 15th. 00:14:13.38\00:14:16.55 They dropped in when they switched from the Julian to the 00:14:16.58\00:14:19.32 Gregorian calendar, but they went from Thursday to Friday. 00:14:19.35\00:14:23.06 So, while they made a jump and a change in the calendar, it never 00:14:23.09\00:14:26.23 affected the weekly cycle. 00:14:26.26\00:14:27.93 Thursday was followed by Friday. 00:14:27.96\00:14:30.70 Is that right? 00:14:30.73\00:14:32.03 Jëan: Well, yeah, you said 1582. 00:14:32.07\00:14:33.94 Doug: What was it? 00:14:33.97\00:14:35.30 Jëan: Let's see. 00:14:35.34\00:14:36.64 The change from the Julian to Gregorian calendar 00:14:36.67\00:14:38.67 occurred 1582. 00:14:38.71\00:14:40.84 Let me see. 00:14:40.88\00:14:42.18 It doesn't give us the exact-- I'm looking this up. 00:14:42.21\00:14:43.78 Doug: I'm pretty sure about the October. 00:14:43.81\00:14:45.21 Jëan: Yeah, here it is. 00:14:45.25\00:14:46.58 October 4 was followed by October 15 in 1582. 00:14:46.61\00:14:48.88 Doug: October 4,15. 00:14:48.92\00:14:50.25 Yeah, they added 10 days. 00:14:50.29\00:14:51.59 All right, I got that wrong. 00:14:51.62\00:14:52.95 I said October 5, so, but Thursday was followed by Friday. 00:14:52.99\00:14:55.26 So I don't know if that helps, Ryan, answer your question. 00:14:55.29\00:14:58.09 But I don't consider it sun worship if, you know, it's the 00:14:58.13\00:15:02.20 only calendar the world follows right now. 00:15:02.23\00:15:04.97 And it dates back before the time of Christ. 00:15:05.00\00:15:07.84 Jesus didn't follow a calendar. 00:15:07.87\00:15:09.64 Jesus lived by the weekly cycle, as far as what day was Sabbath? 00:15:09.67\00:15:14.31 That was the same seven days we keep now. 00:15:14.34\00:15:17.55 Jëan: And different languages use different names obviously 00:15:17.58\00:15:19.88 for the days of the week. 00:15:19.91\00:15:21.25 It is interesting, though, in a number of languages that the 00:15:21.28\00:15:24.15 seventh day of the week that we call Saturday today is actually 00:15:24.19\00:15:26.96 Sabado, if it's Spanish, or a number of other languages. 00:15:26.99\00:15:30.06 Doug: Subbota in Russian. 00:15:30.09\00:15:31.39 Jëan: That's right, which connects to the Hebrew. 00:15:31.43\00:15:33.19 Yeah. 00:15:33.23\00:15:34.50 Very interesting. 00:15:34.56\00:15:35.86 Okay, next caller that we have is Wade listening in Minnesota. 00:15:35.90\00:15:37.33 Wade, welcome to the program. 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.50 Wade: Yeah. 00:15:40.54\00:15:41.87 Hi, Pastor Doug. 00:15:41.90\00:15:43.37 I just wanted to say that your testimony is the most powerful 00:15:43.41\00:15:47.01 I've ever heard. 00:15:47.04\00:15:48.68 Doug: Thank you. 00:15:48.71\00:15:50.21 Wade: I just wanted you to know that. 00:15:50.25\00:15:52.21 But the question I have is about 2 Timothy 2:15 where the Apostle 00:15:52.25\00:15:58.92 Paul talks about rightly dividing the Word of truth. 00:15:58.95\00:16:02.92 Is he talking about studying the Bible dispensationally or what's 00:16:02.96\00:16:08.63 he talking about there? 00:16:08.66\00:16:10.37 Doug: Well, I think Paul's comment, and this is, it says, 00:16:10.40\00:16:14.30 "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who 00:16:14.34\00:16:17.24 does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word 00:16:17.27\00:16:19.81 of truth." 00:16:19.84\00:16:21.14 Well, when you're teaching truth from the Scriptures, you don't 00:16:21.18\00:16:26.01 want to use goofy comparisons like, you know, I heard a pastor 00:16:26.05\00:16:30.62 say once, you know, you could find the verse that says Judas 00:16:30.65\00:16:34.82 went out and hung himself. 00:16:34.86\00:16:36.16 The Bible does say that, and then you can jump to a verse 00:16:36.19\00:16:38.19 that says, go thou do likewise. 00:16:38.23\00:16:39.96 Well, that's not rightly dividing the Word of truth, 00:16:40.00\00:16:42.36 telling people that you're supposed to go hang yourself 00:16:42.40\00:16:44.27 like Judas because you've patched together two Scriptures. 00:16:44.30\00:16:46.74 You've not divided it rightly. 00:16:46.77\00:16:48.47 So dividing it rightly means comparing Scriptures and themes 00:16:48.50\00:16:53.27 with appropriate or similar Scriptures or themes to teach a 00:16:53.31\00:16:56.44 point so that you're faithfully teaching things in context and 00:16:56.48\00:17:02.65 staying with the essence of what the truth would be. 00:17:02.68\00:17:06.39 Jëan: You know, we have a book that's called "The Ultimate 00:17:06.42\00:17:07.86 Resource," and it's all about the Bible. 00:17:07.89\00:17:09.49 It talks about how to study the Bible. 00:17:09.52\00:17:11.26 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:17:11.29\00:17:13.26 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:17:13.29\00:17:16.80 Just ask once again for that book, it's called "The 00:17:16.83\00:17:18.87 Ultimate Resource." 00:17:18.90\00:17:20.20 It's all about the Bible. 00:17:20.24\00:17:21.57 You can dial #250 on your smartphone, and say Bible 00:17:21.60\00:17:24.81 Answers Live, and then ask for the book by name. 00:17:24.84\00:17:27.91 Thank you, Wade. 00:17:27.94\00:17:29.24 We've got Shannon listening in Georgia. 00:17:29.28\00:17:30.75 Shannon, welcome to the program. 00:17:30.78\00:17:34.12 Shannon: Oh, thank you. 00:17:34.15\00:17:35.58 My question is, Psalms 1 through 3, it mentions David fighting 00:17:35.62\00:17:42.96 against an unknown group. 00:17:42.99\00:17:45.49 And what I wanted to know is, if there's anywhere listed in 00:17:45.53\00:17:48.96 the Bible that I can find out who these people were? 00:17:49.00\00:17:52.60 Doug: You said Psalms 1 through 3? 00:17:52.63\00:17:55.44 Shannon: Psalm 60. 00:17:55.47\00:17:58.27 Doug: Psalm 60, verses 1 through 3? 00:17:58.31\00:18:01.01 Okay, and let me read that for our friends. 00:18:01.04\00:18:04.21 "O God, you've cast us off; You have broken us down; You have 00:18:04.25\00:18:07.12 been displeased; Oh, restore us again! 00:18:07.15\00:18:09.45 You've made the earth to tremble; You've broken it; Heal 00:18:09.48\00:18:12.35 its breaches, for it is shaking; You've shown Your people hard 00:18:12.39\00:18:15.82 things; You have made us drink the wine of confusion." 00:18:15.86\00:18:20.13 Now keep in mind David did not write all of the Psalms. 00:18:20.16\00:18:24.40 He probably, I think he wrote 70 of them. 00:18:24.43\00:18:26.57 If I'm not mistaken, Pastor Ross. 00:18:26.60\00:18:28.60 Some were written by Asaph and some, maybe even Solomon, the 00:18:28.64\00:18:31.54 Bible says, wrote some Psalms. 00:18:31.57\00:18:33.88 When it says, you've made us drink the wine of confusion, 00:18:33.91\00:18:36.21 it's interesting. 00:18:36.24\00:18:37.55 It talks about the wine of Babylon in, is that Revelation 00:18:37.58\00:18:41.28 17, Pastor Ross? 00:18:41.32\00:18:42.62 Babylon's made the nations drunk with-- 00:18:42.65\00:18:44.79 Jëan: Drunk with wine, yep. 00:18:44.82\00:18:46.59 Revelation 17. 00:18:46.62\00:18:47.96 Doug: And this could be an allusion to one of the many 00:18:47.99\00:18:50.03 times the children of Israel were conquered, because of their 00:18:50.06\00:18:52.73 unfaithfulness, by some surrounding nation. 00:18:52.76\00:18:55.46 It doesn't say what that nation is. 00:18:55.50\00:18:57.50 Oh, wait a second now; I take it back. 00:18:57.53\00:19:00.40 It says--and I wasn't reading the preface to the Psalm, 00:19:00.44\00:19:04.57 "A michtam of David. 00:19:04.61\00:19:05.94 For teaching. 00:19:05.97\00:19:07.28 When he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of Zobah, 00:19:07.31\00:19:09.48 and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the 00:19:09.51\00:19:12.15 Valley of Salt." 00:19:12.18\00:19:13.42 Yeah, I remember that was when Joab fought one group, and he 00:19:13.45\00:19:16.99 sent his brother Adonijah to fight the other group. 00:19:17.02\00:19:20.16 They got kind of attacked from the north and the south at 00:19:20.19\00:19:22.32 one time. 00:19:22.36\00:19:23.59 And they looked like, I think David is kind of pleading here 00:19:23.63\00:19:28.40 for victory. 00:19:28.43\00:19:29.90 But they won that battle. 00:19:29.93\00:19:31.23 Jëan: They did. 00:19:31.27\00:19:32.60 Yeah. 00:19:32.63\00:19:33.94 All right. 00:19:33.97\00:19:35.30 Very good. 00:19:35.34\00:19:36.64 Well, thank you, Shannon. 00:19:36.67\00:19:38.01 We've got Lee in Texas. 00:19:38.04\00:19:39.34 Lee, welcome to the program. 00:19:39.37\00:19:40.71 Lee: Yes, sir. 00:19:40.74\00:19:42.04 Good evening. 00:19:42.08\00:19:43.38 Doug: Evening. 00:19:43.41\00:19:44.65 Lee: My question for the night would be, what does it mean by 00:19:44.68\00:19:46.45 the man of sin will takes his seat in the temple of God? 00:19:46.48\00:19:50.45 Is that in Rome or is that in Jerusalem? 00:19:50.49\00:19:54.46 Doug: I think it's in Rome because, when it says that he 00:19:54.49\00:19:59.09 sits in the temple of God showing himself that he is God-- 00:19:59.13\00:20:02.40 Of course, there is no Hebrew temple now. 00:20:02.43\00:20:04.63 But Jesus said, "Destroy this temple made with hands, and in 00:20:04.67\00:20:07.60 three days I will make one without hands." 00:20:07.64\00:20:10.14 And it says, He spoke of His Body. 00:20:10.17\00:20:11.94 The church is called the Body of Christ. 00:20:11.97\00:20:14.24 And the Bible says, we are living stones built up to a 00:20:14.28\00:20:17.31 spiritual house. 00:20:17.35\00:20:18.88 So, when you talk about someone sitting in the temple of God 00:20:18.91\00:20:21.95 showing Himself that He is God, it's talking about someone 00:20:21.98\00:20:24.62 sitting over the church saying they hold some divine position. 00:20:24.65\00:20:29.12 And many Protestants believe that's speaking of what the 00:20:29.16\00:20:32.16 Roman pontiff did. 00:20:32.19\00:20:35.36 Jëan: John chapter 2, verse 19, Jesus said, "Destroy this 00:20:35.40\00:20:38.20 temple, in three days I'll raise it up again." 00:20:38.23\00:20:40.30 And, of course, He spoke not only of His Body, but He also 00:20:40.34\00:20:42.97 spoke of the New Testament church. 00:20:43.00\00:20:45.34 And there is no place really for any person to sit and rule in 00:20:45.37\00:20:50.35 the temple that was in Jerusalem. 00:20:50.38\00:20:52.48 Of course, it was a story in 70 AD. 00:20:52.51\00:20:54.45 But, when you compare that to the church in, like you 00:20:54.48\00:20:57.75 mentioned the city of Rome, yes, there is a king that actually 00:20:57.79\00:21:01.39 rules from that church, from that cathedral, which was never 00:21:01.42\00:21:05.93 the case as it related to Jerusalem and the temple there. 00:21:05.96\00:21:09.10 Doug: Yeah, the Jewish temple had no throne room. 00:21:09.13\00:21:11.03 Jëan: That's right. 00:21:11.07\00:21:12.40 Doug: It just had a place for the the Ark. 00:21:12.43\00:21:13.84 But you and I were in the Vatican. 00:21:13.87\00:21:15.90 Jëan: Right in the very heart of the church. 00:21:15.94\00:21:18.07 Doug: And there's a big place for the throne--there is a 00:21:18.11\00:21:19.67 problem there--between two angels, that's right. 00:21:19.71\00:21:22.74 Jëan: Okay, well, thank you, Lee. 00:21:22.78\00:21:24.08 We've got Robert listening in Washington. 00:21:24.11\00:21:25.85 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:21:25.88\00:21:28.28 Robert: All right, good evening. 00:21:28.32\00:21:29.62 Thank you for being here tonight. 00:21:29.65\00:21:32.19 Doug: Well, praise the Lord. 00:21:32.22\00:21:33.52 We're glad that we can study the Word with our friends. 00:21:33.56\00:21:36.86 Robert: Yes. 00:21:36.89\00:21:38.19 as you might see on your note, this is, it's a little bit 00:21:38.23\00:21:41.40 different question than I had tonight. 00:21:41.43\00:21:43.90 regarding the history slash Bible. 00:21:43.93\00:21:49.37 I was discussing um the Second Coming, the signs of the Second 00:21:49.40\00:21:54.14 Coming with a friend and regarding May 1780, the dark day 00:21:54.18\00:22:01.28 and then the falling of the stars. 00:22:01.32\00:22:03.79 And she was saying, telling me that, "Well, how do you know 00:22:03.82\00:22:09.02 that May 1780 is a dark day?" 00:22:09.06\00:22:12.53 I mean, she was saying, "Well, there's been many dark days, 00:22:12.56\00:22:15.50 there's been many times that the stars fell from heaven. 00:22:15.53\00:22:18.93 So how can you pinpoint these two dates?" 00:22:18.97\00:22:24.67 Can you possibly help me with that? 00:22:24.71\00:22:27.11 Doug: Yeah, well, keep in mind that prophecy has 00:22:27.14\00:22:31.55 a historical application. 00:22:31.58\00:22:34.45 So Jesus wanting the church to know when His coming was near, 00:22:34.48\00:22:38.25 He would give major signs in history. 00:22:38.29\00:22:40.76 Now, in Matthew 24, He said that there would be great 00:22:40.79\00:22:44.63 earthquakes, that the sun would turn dark, the moon would turn 00:22:44.66\00:22:48.53 to blood, the stars would fall to heaven. 00:22:48.56\00:22:51.00 Those things have happened on a historic timeline in a very 00:22:51.03\00:22:55.57 significant way. 00:22:55.60\00:22:56.91 I mean, you can go to the encyclopedia or even on Google, 00:22:56.94\00:23:00.21 and, if you say, what was the day of the Great Star falling, 00:23:00.24\00:23:03.95 it'll take you to, is it-- Jëan: 1833. 00:23:03.98\00:23:06.15 Doug: Yeah, I think it's May 1833. 00:23:06.18\00:23:09.55 Abraham Lincoln even comments on that because he saw it. 00:23:09.58\00:23:12.59 It was a quite a significant event, and, when you talk about 00:23:12.62\00:23:15.79 the dark day, that was something that's in the history books, and 00:23:15.82\00:23:18.93 this is all happening, and then the Lisbon earthquake. 00:23:18.96\00:23:22.06 That was maybe not the most intense, but it was one of the 00:23:22.10\00:23:25.20 most widely felt earthquakes as far as its geography. 00:23:25.23\00:23:28.97 Jëan: That was 1755, the Lisbon earthquake. 00:23:29.00\00:23:32.41 You know what else is interesting is the way Jesus 00:23:32.44\00:23:34.28 mentions that there in Matthew 24, He talks about an 00:23:34.31\00:23:36.51 earthquake, He talks about the sun becoming dark, the moon 00:23:36.54\00:23:40.22 being as blood, and then the stars falling from heaven. 00:23:40.25\00:23:43.25 And right around that time period, 1755, you have the 00:23:43.28\00:23:46.05 Lisbon earthquake, which was felt they say on three 00:23:46.09\00:23:49.36 continents, Africa, Europe, and even as far away as 00:23:49.39\00:23:51.93 North America. 00:23:51.96\00:23:53.56 And then you had the dark day, as we mentioned, in 17, when was 00:23:53.60\00:23:57.93 that date, that came a little later, 1780? 00:23:57.97\00:24:00.90 Then you have the Leonid meteor shower in 1833. 00:24:00.94\00:24:05.34 And all of these are announcing the coming of a day of judgment. 00:24:05.37\00:24:08.84 And we understand that to have taken place at the end of the 00:24:08.88\00:24:11.08 2300 days in 1844, according to Daniel 8:14. 00:24:11.11\00:24:15.15 So these are significant events that point to a fulfillment 00:24:15.18\00:24:19.29 of prophecy. 00:24:19.32\00:24:20.62 And they understood that, even back in those times; there's 00:24:20.66\00:24:23.02 many historical records of, when this day suddenly turned dark, 00:24:23.06\00:24:26.03 people began to wonder, "Well, is this the end of the world?" 00:24:26.06\00:24:29.10 And, when the stars fell, people were wondering, "Wow, is this a 00:24:29.13\00:24:31.43 warning that God is giving?" 00:24:31.47\00:24:32.80 So they understood the the significance of these events. 00:24:32.83\00:24:35.74 Doug: Yeah. 00:24:35.77\00:24:37.07 And then, of course, these things are going to happen again 00:24:37.11\00:24:38.81 in quick succession at the Second Coming because, one thing 00:24:38.84\00:24:42.64 that hasn't happened, it also says in the heavens will depart 00:24:42.68\00:24:45.08 as a scroll and then they will see the sign of the Son of Man. 00:24:45.11\00:24:48.88 So, not only did these things happen historically to kind of 00:24:48.92\00:24:51.42 wake people up and tell us we're marching to the end, and, keep 00:24:51.45\00:24:55.16 in mind, you know, a day with the Lord is like 1000 years. 00:24:55.19\00:24:57.09 You look at the scope of Bible history, and it moves, you know, 00:24:57.13\00:25:01.06 slowly for our lives. 00:25:01.10\00:25:03.73 But, historically, we're nearing the end, but they're going to 00:25:03.77\00:25:07.84 happen in quick succession right at the end of time also. 00:25:07.87\00:25:11.24 Jëan: Okay, thank you, Robert. 00:25:11.27\00:25:12.57 We've got Will listening in Canada; Will, welcome to 00:25:12.61\00:25:14.88 the program. 00:25:14.91\00:25:17.81 Will: Good evening, pastors. 00:25:17.85\00:25:19.15 Doug: Evening. 00:25:19.18\00:25:20.92 Will: So my question is in first 1 Samuel chapter 10, verse 10; 00:25:20.95\00:25:25.85 does prophecy have a different meaning in this context? 00:25:25.89\00:25:29.86 Doug: Well, let me read this for our friends. 00:25:29.89\00:25:31.39 First, you said 1 Samuel 10, verse 10? 00:25:31.43\00:25:34.30 It says, "When they came to the hill, there was a group of 00:25:34.30\00:25:36.67 prophets to meet him, and the Spirit of God came upon him, and 00:25:36.70\00:25:39.20 he prophesied among them." 00:25:39.23\00:25:42.07 Well, the word prophesy there, it means he preached, the Spirit 00:25:42.10\00:25:46.47 of God came over him, and he began to testify and preach and 00:25:46.51\00:25:50.48 talk about the glory of God and praise God. 00:25:50.51\00:25:53.21 And you see that happening in 1 Corinthians 14, Paul said 00:25:53.25\00:25:59.52 it's better to prophesy than speak in tongues. 00:25:59.55\00:26:02.66 And it says that the evangelist Philip had four daughters, which 00:26:02.69\00:26:06.93 did prophesy. 00:26:06.96\00:26:08.30 They didn't walk around fortelling the future. 00:26:08.33\00:26:11.03 That means he had four daughters that also taught; they may have 00:26:11.07\00:26:13.74 taught other women, but he had four daughters that were also 00:26:13.77\00:26:16.84 involved in a teaching ministry. 00:26:16.87\00:26:19.31 And so prophecy didn't mean, you know, Elijah was a prophet, but 00:26:19.34\00:26:23.75 he didn't spend all his time talking about the future. 00:26:23.78\00:26:25.78 Neither did John the Baptist. 00:26:25.81\00:26:27.52 He said, "Repent." 00:26:27.55\00:26:29.02 And so that's probably the kind of prophecy Saul, who had been a 00:26:29.05\00:26:32.89 king, a Benjamite, Spirit of the Lord comes on him, and he begins 00:26:32.92\00:26:37.03 to prophesy, which is something that the priests and the sons of 00:26:37.06\00:26:39.96 the prophets normally did. 00:26:40.00\00:26:42.00 Does that help answer that question? 00:26:42.03\00:26:44.80 Will: Yeah, thank you. 00:26:44.83\00:26:46.23 Jëan Ross: All right. 00:26:46.27\00:26:47.60 Hey, thanks so much. 00:26:47.64\00:26:48.94 You know, Pastor Ross, we're going to have a break in, oh, 00:26:48.97\00:26:50.94 about 30 seconds here. 00:26:50.97\00:26:52.27 So we don't want to take a call and cut people off short. 00:26:52.31\00:26:54.88 Sometimes we'll start a call at the beginning of a break and 00:26:54.91\00:26:58.45 take it at the end. 00:26:58.48\00:26:59.81 But sometimes, when people sign on and off, they lose context. 00:26:59.85\00:27:03.59 But, friends, we're going to go, probably get a drink of water. 00:27:03.62\00:27:07.96 We want you to tell your friends that the best part of the 00:27:07.99\00:27:10.46 program is still coming. 00:27:10.49\00:27:12.26 And, don't forget, you can also be listening to and watching 00:27:12.29\00:27:15.63 everything we do on the Amazing Facts YouTube channel. 00:27:15.66\00:27:19.40 So don't go away. 00:27:19.43\00:27:20.74 We'll be back in a moment. 00:27:20.77\00:27:22.77 male announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:24.84\00:27:26.14 Bible Answers Live will return shortly. 00:27:26.17\00:27:28.94 Doug: The U.S. government 00:27:32.58\00:27:34.32 is drowning in debt to the tune of $22 trillion. 00:27:34.35\00:27:38.22 But, before you wag your finger at the government's spending, 00:27:38.25\00:27:41.02 the Federal Reserve says the average American household 00:27:41.06\00:27:44.53 carries over $137,000 in debt. 00:27:44.56\00:27:48.43 Well, it was never God's plan that we live with the burden 00:27:48.46\00:27:51.00 of debt. 00:27:51.03\00:27:52.33 Proverbs 22:7 warns us, "The rich rules over the poor, and 00:27:52.37\00:27:56.27 the borrower is servant to the lender." 00:27:56.30\00:27:58.61 Living with debt is a stressful burden that actually hurts your 00:27:58.64\00:28:01.68 relationship with God. 00:28:01.71\00:28:03.28 In my new pocket book, "Deliverance from Debt," I 00:28:03.31\00:28:06.25 outline the Bible principles on how to properly manage your 00:28:06.28\00:28:09.62 money, with some practical suggestions on how you can get 00:28:09.65\00:28:12.45 out and stay out of debt. 00:28:12.49\00:28:14.76 If you or someone you love is drowning in debt, order a copy 00:28:14.79\00:28:18.96 of "Deliverance from Debt" today. 00:28:18.99\00:28:20.83 It can be a lifesaver to keep you from going under. 00:28:20.86\00:28:23.50 Please call 800-538-7275 or visit afbookstore.com. 00:28:23.53\00:28:30.07 male announcer: Jerusalem, the city of peace, has been a place 00:28:32.37\00:28:35.48 of unending conflict for centuries. 00:28:35.51\00:28:38.01 Many now believe that Jerusalem will soon take center 00:28:38.05\00:28:40.92 stage again. 00:28:40.95\00:28:42.25 But what does the Bible say? Ivan: Yes. 00:30:43.34\00:30:44.71 Good evening, pastors. 00:30:44.74\00:30:46.07 How are you doing? Thank you for taking my call. 00:30:46.11\00:30:47.41 Doug: Good, thanks for calling. Ivan: I have a question. 00:30:47.44\00:30:50.25 I wanted to, I had a question in regards to 00:30:50.28\00:30:56.62 the deliverance of evil spirits. 00:30:56.65\00:30:57.95 How do we go about getting delivered by, from those things? 00:30:57.99\00:30:59.42 Doug: Yeah, well, the--of course, Jesus casts out spirits, 00:30:59.45\00:31:04.19 and, so, by turning to the Lord and asking for deliverance. 00:31:04.23\00:31:07.50 It helps if you go to Christian friends, you know, I mean, if 00:31:07.56\00:31:12.43 you're the person you're talking about, you might be thinking 00:31:12.47\00:31:14.47 about someone else. 00:31:14.50\00:31:15.80 You go to Christian friends, and you can gather and pray. 00:31:15.84\00:31:19.27 Now, if the person that is tormented, they may choose to 00:31:19.31\00:31:22.94 come themself, like the demoniac in Mark chapter 5; he came to 00:31:22.98\00:31:26.18 Jesus; Jesus cast out the evil spirits. 00:31:26.21\00:31:28.45 Turn your life over to Him through the proclamation of the 00:31:28.48\00:31:31.45 Word--Jesus basically sets us free--and through prayer. 00:31:31.49\00:31:38.16 And so, you know, sometimes the disciples would pray over 00:31:38.19\00:31:41.60 somebody, and the the evil spirits would leave them. 00:31:41.63\00:31:45.33 And, you know, it might be a battle that goes on for a while. 00:31:45.37\00:31:48.37 Even Jesus, it says He cast seven devils out of 00:31:48.40\00:31:51.77 Mary Magdalene. 00:31:51.81\00:31:53.14 And it seems to indicate that seven times she kind of 00:31:53.17\00:31:55.31 slid back. 00:31:55.34\00:31:56.85 So it's coming through the turning to the Lord, through the 00:31:56.88\00:32:03.99 reading and the proclamation of the Word, and through prayer. 00:32:04.02\00:32:08.32 Jëan: And, if there is something in your life that you know is 00:32:08.36\00:32:10.99 out of harmony with the will of God, maybe there's movies or 00:32:11.03\00:32:14.13 books, talking about the occult, or maybe, you know, there's 00:32:14.20\00:32:17.37 things in your house that should not be there that gives a 00:32:17.40\00:32:19.43 foothold to the devil, to an evil spirit. 00:32:19.47\00:32:21.90 We want to get rid of that as well. 00:32:21.94\00:32:23.51 So do everything we can do in our power. 00:32:23.54\00:32:25.71 But, ultimately, deliverance does come through prayer. 00:32:25.74\00:32:28.88 And, like Pastor Doug says, the Bible says, where two or three 00:32:28.91\00:32:31.35 are gathered together in my name, that's where I will be. 00:32:31.38\00:32:33.58 So, get Godly friends or church members, and unite in prayer, 00:32:33.62\00:32:37.75 and ask God to do something that, you know, you can't do 00:32:37.79\00:32:40.69 for yourself. 00:32:40.72\00:32:42.02 Doug: That's right. 00:32:42.06\00:32:43.39 Jëan: Okay, thank you. 00:32:43.43\00:32:44.73 Next caller that we have is Rebecca. 00:32:44.76\00:32:46.09 Rebecca is listening in Washington. 00:32:46.13\00:32:47.40 Rebecca, welcome to the program. 00:32:47.46\00:32:50.20 Rebecca: Hi. 00:32:50.23\00:32:51.57 Thank you so much, pastors. 00:32:51.60\00:32:52.90 I appreciate being here. 00:32:52.93\00:32:54.54 Doug: Yes, how can we help you? 00:32:54.57\00:32:57.34 Rebecca: Hi, Pastor Doug. 00:32:57.37\00:32:59.14 I sent you The Ice Maiden's Kiss. 00:32:59.17\00:33:01.11 Thank you for sending me that devotional. 00:33:01.14\00:33:03.88 Doug: Oh, ok, thank you. 00:33:03.91\00:33:05.21 Good, good, I remember that. 00:33:05.25\00:33:07.62 Rebecca: Yeah, yeah, and I just wanted to ask about, in 00:33:07.65\00:33:11.29 Proverbs, there's a lot of references to wisdom as "she" 00:33:11.32\00:33:17.03 and "her," and I've been asked by other people, you know, not 00:33:17.06\00:33:21.23 believers, why that is, and if Solomon is referencing the 00:33:21.26\00:33:26.74 Holy Spirit? 00:33:26.77\00:33:28.54 And, if so, why would he be referencing as "she" and "her?" 00:33:28.57\00:33:33.58 Proverbs 4, 5 through 9, and then again down in 13. 00:33:33.61\00:33:38.38 Doug: Well, he does both. 00:33:38.41\00:33:39.71 So you're right, in Proverbs 4 and in 5, it says, you know, 00:33:39.75\00:33:45.69 "wisdom cries out." 00:33:45.72\00:33:47.56 But you go to Proverbs chapter 8, and here it not only says, 00:33:47.59\00:33:51.56 "She cries out by the gates," but then you get down a little 00:33:51.59\00:33:55.00 later, and it says, "He was with me in the beginning of 00:33:55.03\00:33:57.90 His ways." 00:33:57.93\00:33:59.23 And so I think the reason it's going back and forth is because 00:33:59.27\00:34:03.04 it's trying to talk about a love relationship, that we are to 00:34:03.07\00:34:06.17 love wisdom. 00:34:06.21\00:34:08.54 And so it kind of compares it to a marriage, you want to be 00:34:08.58\00:34:11.95 married to it. 00:34:11.98\00:34:13.45 Jëan: And things that are of great value, talks about wisdom 00:34:13.48\00:34:15.72 is better than rubies, better than gold, talks about, you 00:34:15.75\00:34:19.02 know, this wisdom is described as a woman or it's described as 00:34:19.05\00:34:23.22 a wise man. 00:34:23.26\00:34:24.76 So there's different phrases that's used, different symbols 00:34:24.79\00:34:27.40 that's used to illustrate the importance of wisdom, which 00:34:27.46\00:34:30.67 ultimately comes through the Holy Spirit. 00:34:30.70\00:34:33.07 Doug: Yep. 00:34:33.10\00:34:34.44 Yeah, I'm also looking again in Proverbs 8, it says, "I wisdom 00:34:34.47\00:34:39.14 dwell with prudence, and the counselor's mind, by me 00:34:39.17\00:34:43.88 kings reign." 00:34:43.91\00:34:45.28 So, you know, I think Solomon probably is drawing on every 00:34:45.31\00:34:49.55 beautiful analogy he can think of in talking about wisdom as 00:34:49.58\00:34:53.39 something precious. 00:34:53.42\00:34:54.76 Jëan: Okay, thank you. 00:34:54.79\00:34:56.09 We've got Guy listening in Arizona. 00:34:56.12\00:34:57.46 Guy, welcome to the program. 00:34:57.49\00:34:58.89 Guy: Thank you for taking my call. 00:34:58.93\00:35:00.33 I appreciate it. 00:35:00.36\00:35:01.63 Doug: Yes, sir. 00:35:01.66\00:35:03.00 Guy: Years ago when I got out of the military, I was going to 00:35:03.03\00:35:05.40 college and met a young lady from Tehran, Iran. 00:35:05.43\00:35:08.54 We got married, and she bore me three children, one boy and then 00:35:08.57\00:35:13.54 a set of twin boys. 00:35:13.58\00:35:15.54 And, all through our relationship, we 00:35:15.58\00:35:17.98 weren't compatible. 00:35:18.01\00:35:19.35 I slept in another bedroom. 00:35:19.38\00:35:20.75 She wouldn't she wouldn't have nothing to do with me. 00:35:20.78\00:35:24.22 And then she worked for her brother in a bar. 00:35:24.25\00:35:26.55 So we got separated, and I was upset. 00:35:26.59\00:35:29.79 And then I learned that, I got a call that she had sent my 00:35:29.82\00:35:33.60 children, took my children to Tehran, Iran. 00:35:33.63\00:35:37.20 I was outraged, and I cursed out the Holy Spirit. 00:35:37.23\00:35:40.44 Since then I've repented, and I've asked for forgiveness for 00:35:40.47\00:35:43.30 that stupid action because I was outraged. 00:35:43.34\00:35:46.27 And, I'm wondering, have I been forgiven? 00:35:46.31\00:35:49.18 Doug: Okay, so you got very upset, and you verbally cursed 00:35:49.21\00:35:54.12 against the Holy Spirit. 00:35:54.15\00:35:56.12 And you wonder if, if you repent of that, can you be forgiven? 00:35:56.15\00:35:59.02 Yes, that is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. 00:35:59.05\00:36:02.19 There are people who are in a stage of grief where they have 00:36:02.22\00:36:06.36 a great deal of anger. 00:36:06.39\00:36:07.66 Maybe they've lost a loved one, and they say very 00:36:07.73\00:36:11.07 reckless things. 00:36:11.10\00:36:12.40 It sounds like you were going through a personal crisis. 00:36:12.43\00:36:14.97 And, then, you know, they weren't really in their right 00:36:15.00\00:36:18.61 minds; they're very angry. 00:36:18.64\00:36:21.31 Sometimes the devil gets a hold of us, and we say things we 00:36:21.34\00:36:23.75 should never say. 00:36:23.78\00:36:25.08 Can God forgive you? 00:36:25.11\00:36:26.45 If you sincerely repent, He will absolutely forgive you. 00:36:26.48\00:36:29.72 Jëan: You know, we have a book, Pastor Doug; it's called, "What 00:36:29.75\00:36:31.49 is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:36:31.52\00:36:32.82 And I think you'd enjoy that guide. 00:36:32.85\00:36:34.56 It'll help clarify what the Bible means when it talks about 00:36:34.59\00:36:38.26 blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. 00:36:38.29\00:36:40.10 Just call and ask for it, and we'll send it to you; it's 00:36:40.13\00:36:42.66 800-835-6747, that is our free offer. 00:36:42.70\00:36:45.77 Or you can dial #250 on your smartphone, say Bible Answers 00:36:45.80\00:36:49.47 Live, and then ask for the book, "What is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:36:49.50\00:36:52.77 And we'll send that to you. 00:36:52.81\00:36:54.71 We've got Jason listening in Washington. 00:36:54.74\00:36:56.51 Jason, welcome to the program. 00:36:56.54\00:36:59.45 Jason: Hi, thank you. 00:36:59.48\00:37:00.85 My question is, is it ever okay to threaten someone with 00:37:00.88\00:37:04.15 violence if they're doing something like insulting your 00:37:04.19\00:37:10.09 mother or wife or, and this would be a man doing it, or 00:37:10.13\00:37:14.86 they're contacting them when they've asked them not to? 00:37:14.93\00:37:19.43 Doug: No, I don't think it's ever--Now, I want to make 00:37:19.47\00:37:22.10 a distinction here. 00:37:22.14\00:37:23.57 If you or your family are physically threatened, you might 00:37:23.61\00:37:26.44 need to do something physical to protect them. 00:37:26.47\00:37:29.24 But, even if someone--you know, Jesus said, if someone just gets 00:37:29.28\00:37:32.05 angry and strikes you on the right cheek, you can offer him 00:37:32.08\00:37:34.25 the other. 00:37:34.28\00:37:35.62 Now, He's not talking about a boxing match; He's saying 00:37:35.65\00:37:37.02 someone gets mad and swings at you. 00:37:37.05\00:37:39.75 But, because of words spoken, I don't think Christians should 00:37:39.79\00:37:43.36 react with violence on any occasion. 00:37:43.39\00:37:45.89 You look at how Jesus, He got buffeted, and He bore 00:37:45.93\00:37:50.97 it patiently. 00:37:51.00\00:37:54.47 You know, people are going to mock you. 00:37:54.50\00:37:56.00 Jesus said, pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute 00:37:56.04\00:37:59.37 you, love your enemies, overcome evil with good. 00:37:59.41\00:38:02.78 He doesn't want us to overcome evil with evil. 00:38:02.81\00:38:05.01 And so, no, I don't think you should resort to violence when 00:38:05.05\00:38:07.42 someone says something rude or unkind or even insulting. 00:38:07.45\00:38:11.62 Jëan: That's right. 00:38:11.65\00:38:12.99 All right, very good, thank you. 00:38:13.02\00:38:14.32 We've got Tee listening in Virginia. 00:38:14.36\00:38:15.89 Tee, welcome to the program. 00:38:15.92\00:38:18.39 Tee: Thank you, and good evening. 00:38:18.43\00:38:20.26 And just really quickly, you all, your ministry is amazing, 00:38:20.30\00:38:25.17 and I thank God for you all every single day. 00:38:25.20\00:38:28.17 Doug: Oh, well, thank you. 00:38:28.20\00:38:30.14 Tee: You're welcome. 00:38:30.17\00:38:31.47 My question is, is it adultery for Christians to do the sign of 00:38:31.51\00:38:38.78 the cross? 00:38:38.81\00:38:40.88 Doug: Yeah, we know that, a lot of our Catholic brethren, there 00:38:40.92\00:38:44.52 may be some other churches that you'll see them cross themselves 00:38:44.55\00:38:47.49 at the end of a prayer or, you know, at some moment of crisis. 00:38:47.52\00:38:53.33 And there's nothing in the Bible that tells us to do that. 00:38:53.36\00:38:58.30 That is something that I think kind of grew out of 00:38:58.33\00:39:00.84 a pagan tradition. 00:39:00.87\00:39:04.27 You know, I don't think we ought to be doing it as Christians 00:39:04.31\00:39:08.08 because there's so many pagan trappings to those things, and I 00:39:08.11\00:39:13.52 don't know, Pastor Ross, I can't think of any Bible example of a 00:39:13.55\00:39:16.35 person making a physical sign of the cross or going through any 00:39:16.38\00:39:19.99 kind of spiritual gesture or signs-- 00:39:20.02\00:39:21.62 Jëan: Yeah, we have no record of any 00:39:21.66\00:39:23.46 of that until, like you say, the middle ages 00:39:23.49\00:39:25.46 where some pagan ideas began to make its way into Christianity, 00:39:25.49\00:39:30.00 and some of these remnants of doing certain things or saying 00:39:30.03\00:39:33.47 certain prayers, that was introduced into the church. 00:39:33.50\00:39:37.57 And I think that's where making the sign of the cross came from 00:39:37.61\00:39:39.84 as well. 00:39:39.87\00:39:41.21 Doug: And you get into some of the secret societies, and they 00:39:41.24\00:39:42.84 give special secret hand gestures and things. 00:39:42.88\00:39:45.35 I can't think of an example. 00:39:45.38\00:39:47.05 I mean, the only thing in the Bible, it says they lifted their 00:39:47.08\00:39:48.92 hands in prayer. 00:39:48.95\00:39:50.29 Jëan: Yep, and you know, there are examples in the Bible where 00:39:50.32\00:39:52.92 they bowed in prayer, and they closed their eyes in prayer, 00:39:52.95\00:39:55.39 and, you know, that would be Biblical, but making a sign of 00:39:55.42\00:39:58.13 the cross prior to praying or ending, that's not Biblical. 00:39:58.16\00:40:02.36 Doug: Anyway, thank you, appreciate that, Tee, and thanks 00:40:02.40\00:40:04.83 for the encouragement. 00:40:04.87\00:40:06.30 Jëan: We've got Steve listening in Oregon. 00:40:06.33\00:40:08.40 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:40:08.44\00:40:10.71 Steve: Hello. 00:40:10.74\00:40:12.07 Thank you so much for taking my call. 00:40:12.11\00:40:14.04 Say, when did the Bible get divided into verses, and 00:40:14.08\00:40:20.15 punctuation was added, and by who, like, which institution? 00:40:20.18\00:40:27.52 Do you recommended one of your Amazing Facts publications 00:40:27.56\00:40:31.69 or website? 00:40:31.73\00:40:33.19 Doug: I don't think they happened at the same time. 00:40:33.23\00:40:35.56 I think that the division of chapters and verses was 00:40:35.60\00:40:39.40 a separate event to when the translators went through and 00:40:39.43\00:40:42.77 added English punctuation. 00:40:42.80\00:40:44.71 Now you realize of course, punctuation in different 00:40:44.74\00:40:47.24 languages is all going to be different. 00:40:47.28\00:40:49.51 So, because Greek had no punctuation, they had to decide 00:40:49.54\00:40:53.72 where you would put the comma and the period. 00:40:53.75\00:40:56.72 Hebrew had a different kind of punctuation, that their whole 00:40:56.75\00:40:59.62 structure was different. 00:40:59.65\00:41:01.06 They actually read from right to left. 00:41:01.09\00:41:03.29 So the translation of the two, from Greek and from Hebrew, was 00:41:03.32\00:41:07.60 different and happened at different times. 00:41:07.60\00:41:09.93 The Hebrew Old Testament was translated to English before. 00:41:09.96\00:41:13.34 I believe that, Wycliffe got to the New Testament. 00:41:13.37\00:41:16.77 And I don't know if he was one of the first ones to add 00:41:16.81\00:41:20.08 punctuation coming from-- Jëan: Yes, somewhat. 00:41:20.11\00:41:23.08 But, as far as the most known, I guess punctuation wasn't until 00:41:23.11\00:41:27.05 the 1550s, just before the printing of the Geneva Bible, 00:41:27.08\00:41:31.19 which was in 1560. 00:41:31.22\00:41:32.55 And that's when more punctuation was added. 00:41:32.59\00:41:34.22 And I think it was at that point as well where they began to 00:41:34.26\00:41:37.33 clarify different passages with verses so they would be easier 00:41:37.36\00:41:40.66 for people to find if they're reading it together. 00:41:40.70\00:41:42.60 So it really took hold when the printing press began to print 00:41:42.63\00:41:46.33 and people were translating more and more stuff into English. 00:41:46.37\00:41:50.31 Doug: There you have it. 00:41:50.34\00:41:51.67 I hope that helps a little. 00:41:51.71\00:41:53.38 Jëan: You know, we do the book. 00:41:53.41\00:41:54.74 it's called "The Ultimate Resource," and it's all about 00:41:54.78\00:41:56.18 the Bible, and it'll give you a lot more information about the 00:41:56.21\00:41:58.38 history of the Bible, how to study the Bible. 00:41:58.41\00:42:00.92 The number to call for that is 80o-835-6747, and just ask for 00:42:00.95\00:42:05.79 that book, it's called "The Ultimate Resource." 00:42:05.82\00:42:08.52 Next caller that we have is Steve, listening in Canada. 00:42:08.56\00:42:11.76 Steve, welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:42:11.79\00:42:15.66 Steve: Hello. 00:42:15.70\00:42:17.00 Doug: Hi. 00:42:17.03\00:42:18.33 How can I help? 00:42:18.37\00:42:19.70 Yes, you're on. 00:42:19.73\00:42:21.04 Steve: Good evening. 00:42:21.07\00:42:22.40 My question. 00:42:22.44\00:42:23.74 Well, I'm somewhat confused as to the author of the Book of 00:42:23.77\00:42:28.04 Romans because, in Romans, 16, verse 22, it says--because 00:42:28.08\00:42:36.18 I always thought that Paul wrote Romans. 00:42:36.22\00:42:39.55 But, in Romans 16, verse 22, says, "I, Tertius, who wrote 00:42:39.59\00:42:46.70 this epistle, greet you in the Lord." 00:42:46.73\00:42:49.43 Doug: Mm-hm. 00:42:49.46\00:42:50.77 Well, yeah, Tertius was the scribe, but the dictation and 00:42:50.80\00:42:55.77 the message is coming directly from Paul because, you go into 00:42:55.80\00:42:59.11 the first--Paul had problems with his eyes, evidently. 00:42:59.14\00:43:02.28 He talks about a thorn in his side. 00:43:02.31\00:43:03.98 And, of course, he was struck blind when he first saw 00:43:04.01\00:43:06.41 the Lord. 00:43:06.45\00:43:07.75 But you look in the first verse in the book of Romans, says, 00:43:07.78\00:43:10.02 "Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an 00:43:10.05\00:43:12.45 apostle, separated..." 00:43:12.49\00:43:13.96 So it's a message from Paul. 00:43:13.99\00:43:16.52 Paul was, I think he was in jail a lot of the time, and he also 00:43:16.56\00:43:20.50 dictated things to scribes. 00:43:20.53\00:43:23.50 Sometimes Paul would dictate a letter, and he'd say, "I'm 00:43:23.53\00:43:25.67 signing this in my own hand." 00:43:25.70\00:43:28.50 So it would be, he would authorize it. 00:43:28.54\00:43:30.51 And he said, you know, "Behold with what large characters 00:43:30.54\00:43:33.07 I'm writing." 00:43:33.11\00:43:34.41 He wrote very big. 00:43:34.44\00:43:35.74 Paul, when he was being tried by the high priest, he called him 00:43:35.78\00:43:39.05 a whited wall. 00:43:39.08\00:43:40.38 And the guard said, "You're going to say that to the 00:43:40.42\00:43:43.08 high priest?" 00:43:43.12\00:43:44.42 And he's squinting and going, "I didn't know it was 00:43:44.45\00:43:45.79 the high priest." 00:43:45.82\00:43:47.12 He couldn't see. 00:43:47.16\00:43:48.49 So I think that It's just telling us that Tertius was the 00:43:48.52\00:43:54.00 scribe, secretary who wrote it out, and he sends a little 00:43:54.00\00:43:57.57 greeting at the end in his own hand. 00:43:57.60\00:44:00.04 Jëan: All right, thank you, Steve. 00:44:00.07\00:44:01.40 Again, you might like that book called, "The Ultimate Resource," 00:44:01.44\00:44:03.34 talks about the Bible, number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:44:03.37\00:44:09.11 Jennifer is listening in New York. 00:44:09.14\00:44:10.48 Jennifer. 00:44:10.51\00:44:11.81 Welcome to Bible Answers live. 00:44:11.85\00:44:13.18 Jennifer: Thank you. 00:44:13.21\00:44:14.52 Good evening. 00:44:14.55\00:44:15.88 And God bless you, pastors. 00:44:15.92\00:44:17.22 Doug: Thank you. 00:44:17.25\00:44:18.59 Jennifer: In Genesis 19, we read there where Lot was 00:44:18.62\00:44:21.59 in Sodom, and the angels came to him. 00:44:21.62\00:44:25.76 He said they wanted to rape the guys, the angels, and Lot said 00:44:25.79\00:44:32.27 he will send out two of his, his two daughters who knew no man, 00:44:32.30\00:44:35.90 they were virgins. 00:44:35.94\00:44:37.31 But, in verse 14, we really read where Lot went out to speak to 00:44:37.34\00:44:41.48 his sons-in-laws who were married to his daughters. 00:44:41.51\00:44:47.15 So my question is, if they were married, how could they be, 00:44:47.18\00:44:51.45 could have been virgins at the time? 00:44:51.49\00:44:53.72 Doug: Lot evidently had other daughters. 00:44:53.76\00:44:56.86 Some of them were married. 00:44:56.89\00:44:58.19 It doesn't tell us if it was two or three. 00:44:58.23\00:45:00.06 It uses the plural. 00:45:00.10\00:45:01.63 So he had other daughters that were married. 00:45:01.66\00:45:04.30 And it's interesting that, just the contrast between Lot and 00:45:04.33\00:45:10.11 Noah, I don't know if you've ever done that. 00:45:10.14\00:45:12.04 Noah had sons, and he saved his family. 00:45:12.07\00:45:15.41 Lot had daughters, and they got, they married off. 00:45:15.44\00:45:19.01 And Noah separated and stayed with the Lord, and Lot went down 00:45:19.05\00:45:22.42 to the wrong city. 00:45:22.45\00:45:23.79 And just an interesting contrast. 00:45:23.82\00:45:25.65 But, yeah, it's just basically talking about the daughters that 00:45:25.69\00:45:30.56 were married, and the two youngest that were not married 00:45:30.59\00:45:32.66 were virgins. 00:45:32.69\00:45:34.00 Jëan: And the ones who were married, apparently, they 00:45:34.03\00:45:35.93 were destroyed. 00:45:35.96\00:45:37.27 His wife and his two daughters that were 00:45:37.30\00:45:39.30 taken out. 00:45:39.33\00:45:40.57 Doug: It specifically mentions his sons-in-law, that mocked, 00:45:40.60\00:45:44.01 they thought he was mocking. 00:45:44.04\00:45:46.78 Jëan: All right, thank you, Jennifer. 00:45:46.81\00:45:48.14 We've got Kimberly in Nevada. 00:45:48.18\00:45:49.98 Kimberly. 00:45:50.01\00:45:51.31 Welcome to the program. 00:45:51.35\00:45:52.68 Kimberly: Hello. 00:45:52.71\00:45:54.02 Doug: Hi. 00:45:54.05\00:45:55.38 Kimberly: Hi. 00:45:55.42\00:45:56.72 My question is also from Genesis. 00:45:56.75\00:45:58.09 First of all, thank you for taking my call. 00:45:58.12\00:45:59.42 But, so, in chapter 15, verses 9 and 10, when Abraham is making 00:45:59.45\00:46:06.13 the covenant, and it talks about the ram, the heifer, and the 00:46:06.16\00:46:11.60 birds, my question is, what is the significance of the birds, 00:46:11.63\00:46:15.60 and why were the birds not split in half? 00:46:15.64\00:46:18.24 Doug: Yeah, well, typically the larger offerings were dissected. 00:46:18.27\00:46:23.78 The birds were so small that, you know, when, sometimes when 00:46:23.81\00:46:29.35 they butchered the bigger animals, they would divide it 00:46:29.38\00:46:31.52 up, and they would dissect them like that. 00:46:31.55\00:46:33.96 The birds were so small, it was like one per person. 00:46:33.99\00:46:36.16 They just, they didn't divide them up. 00:46:36.19\00:46:39.63 And so I think that's the main reason, and, even when they were 00:46:39.66\00:46:43.03 drying meat, sometimes they dried in the sun, you know, 00:46:43.06\00:46:46.77 bigger sections. 00:46:46.80\00:46:48.14 It takes longer to dry; they split it up so it'll dry 00:46:48.17\00:46:50.61 more quickly. 00:46:50.64\00:46:51.97 A little bird, you could just hang it up, and it would dry, 00:46:52.01\00:46:53.91 just salt it like the fish. 00:46:53.94\00:46:56.44 So, yeah, they didn't divide them. 00:46:56.48\00:46:57.88 But they took the offerings from the poorest, is what the birds 00:46:57.91\00:47:01.42 offered, to the richest, which would have been the heifer, and 00:47:01.45\00:47:05.05 a goat kind of in between. 00:47:05.09\00:47:07.92 Jëan: Okay, thank you. 00:47:07.96\00:47:09.26 We've got Chris listening in Alabama. 00:47:09.29\00:47:11.13 Chris. Welcome to the program. 00:47:11.16\00:47:13.86 Chris: Yes, thank you. 00:47:13.90\00:47:15.33 I just want to get right straight to it. 00:47:15.36\00:47:17.23 The Jacob married the two sisters. 00:47:17.27\00:47:22.77 Has anybody ever thought that they might have been twins? 00:47:22.80\00:47:25.31 No, because Laban, well, someone may have thought it, but Laban 00:47:25.34\00:47:29.18 specifically says, we never marry the younger before 00:47:29.21\00:47:33.08 the older. 00:47:33.11\00:47:34.88 It always talks about Rachel being younger, and Leah being 00:47:34.92\00:47:39.05 older, never says they were twins. 00:47:39.09\00:47:40.66 I think it would have mentioned that, especially since it does 00:47:40.69\00:47:42.59 mention that Jacob was a twin, and Perez and Zerah were twins. 00:47:42.62\00:47:47.73 But, yeah, I think that there, it delineates that Rachel was 00:47:47.76\00:47:53.54 the younger. 00:47:53.57\00:47:55.10 Jëan: All right, thank you, Chris. 00:47:55.14\00:47:56.47 We've got Greg in California. 00:47:56.50\00:47:57.81 Greg, welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:47:57.84\00:48:01.91 Greg: Good evening, pastors. 00:48:01.94\00:48:03.28 Thank you for taking my call. 00:48:03.31\00:48:04.61 Doug: Yes. 00:48:04.65\00:48:05.98 Greg: Are you born of the Spirit at the moment you 00:48:06.01\00:48:07.62 accept Christ as your Savior, and, if not, when are you born 00:48:07.65\00:48:10.02 of the Spirit? 00:48:10.05\00:48:11.39 Doug: Yeah. 00:48:11.42\00:48:12.72 Well, I think, definitely, when you accept Jesus. 00:48:12.75\00:48:14.19 it's usually the Holy Spirit working in your heart that leads 00:48:14.22\00:48:17.06 you to repentance. 00:48:17.09\00:48:18.43 So the Spirit is working in your heart to just even bring you to 00:48:18.46\00:48:21.30 the point of repentance and turning to God. 00:48:21.33\00:48:24.00 And, when you turn and give your life to the Lord, I think the 00:48:24.03\00:48:27.40 Holy Spirit begins working in your heart. 00:48:27.44\00:48:30.44 Definitely at baptism because then you surrendered and obeyed, 00:48:30.47\00:48:36.78 and you've made that commitment because it says, repent, be 00:48:36.81\00:48:39.45 baptized, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 00:48:39.48\00:48:43.22 And even Jesus, at His baptism, He came out of the water. 00:48:43.25\00:48:46.25 But you've got Cornelius in Acts chapter 10, he's baptized with 00:48:46.29\00:48:50.89 the Holy Spirit before he's baptized with water. 00:48:50.93\00:48:53.83 So you can definitely have the Holy Spirit. 00:48:53.86\00:48:55.83 And I think most people are born again before they ever get 00:48:55.86\00:48:58.07 baptized in the Spirit. 00:48:58.10\00:48:59.33 That's what leads them to repent and to become, have a new heart. 00:48:59.37\00:49:04.04 So, what do you think, Pastor Ross? 00:49:04.07\00:49:05.44 Jëan: Absolutely. 00:49:05.47\00:49:06.78 You know, Jesus said, It's like the blowing of the wind. 00:49:06.81\00:49:08.34 You might not be able to give a specific moment, but it's the 00:49:08.38\00:49:11.48 Holy Spirit that works. 00:49:11.51\00:49:12.81 The Bible says, It's the goodness of God that leads us to 00:49:12.85\00:49:14.88 repentance, repentance to be born of the Holy Spirit. 00:49:14.92\00:49:18.15 You know, we might not always be able to point to an 00:49:18.19\00:49:20.09 exact moment. 00:49:20.12\00:49:21.42 Some people can, very dramatic conversion experience, but, for 00:49:21.46\00:49:24.06 others, it's a gradual drawing to the Lord. 00:49:24.09\00:49:28.16 Alright, thank you. 00:49:28.20\00:49:29.53 Next caller that we have is Robert in Michigan. 00:49:29.56\00:49:31.57 Robert. Welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:49:31.60\00:49:34.67 Robert: Thank you for taking my call. 00:49:34.70\00:49:36.47 My question involves two verses in the Bible. 00:49:36.50\00:49:39.54 Matthew 12:36 where it says, "But every idle word that men 00:49:39.57\00:49:44.48 shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day 00:49:44.51\00:49:47.05 of judgment." 00:49:47.08\00:49:48.42 And then another verse is in Romans 14:10, where it says, 00:49:48.45\00:49:51.99 "For we all shall stand before the judgment seat of Christ." 00:49:52.02\00:49:56.99 And so I wonder how literal this is? 00:49:57.03\00:50:00.26 And, in that context, if it is literal, when will the redeemed 00:50:00.30\00:50:05.70 person ever give account for anything? 00:50:05.73\00:50:08.34 Because aren't they covered by Jesus? 00:50:08.37\00:50:10.74 Doug: The Bible says that all are judged, and that means 00:50:10.77\00:50:13.51 everybody, and, even the redeemed, they're being judged 00:50:13.54\00:50:17.05 to show, were they redeemed? 00:50:17.08\00:50:19.71 You know, did they surrender their lives to the Lord? 00:50:19.75\00:50:22.32 Did they have the fruits of the Spirit? 00:50:22.35\00:50:24.55 Did they, you know, follow up on their commitment? 00:50:24.59\00:50:27.86 Now keep in mind for our friends listening. 00:50:27.89\00:50:30.16 Jesus said that you'll give an account in the judgment for 00:50:30.19\00:50:32.36 every idle word you spoke. 00:50:32.39\00:50:33.73 For one thing, that means we need to be careful of what 00:50:33.76\00:50:36.93 we say. 00:50:36.97\00:50:38.27 But everybody here is doomed, if there's no mercy, because 00:50:38.30\00:50:42.70 everybody has said things they shouldn't say. 00:50:42.74\00:50:45.14 So we have to trust in the Lord's mercy or nobody's going 00:50:45.17\00:50:49.01 to have any hope. 00:50:49.04\00:50:50.61 And Paul is just warning us that there is a day where everybody 00:50:50.65\00:50:54.25 gives an account. 00:50:54.28\00:50:55.62 Now, for those that have repented and turned from their 00:50:55.65\00:50:57.55 sins, we are covered, and we are under the blood of Jesus, and we 00:50:57.59\00:51:01.39 are pardoned by His grace. 00:51:01.42\00:51:04.86 Otherwise, we may as well just turn off the electricity right 00:51:04.89\00:51:07.40 now and go home. 00:51:07.40\00:51:08.70 This program would be useless. 00:51:08.73\00:51:10.07 It's only God's grace that gives us any hope. 00:51:10.10\00:51:12.27 Jëan: You know, there's a verse that we read in 1 Timothy 00:51:12.30\00:51:14.00 chapter 5, verse 24 where, Paul says, "Some men's sins are 00:51:14.04\00:51:18.11 clearly evident, preceding them to judgment. 00:51:18.14\00:51:20.91 But those of some men follow later." 00:51:20.94\00:51:23.28 Meaning that, if we confess our sins, yes, they precede us to 00:51:23.31\00:51:26.82 judgment, but those sins are blotted out. 00:51:26.85\00:51:29.15 Our names are retained in the Lamb's Book of Life. 00:51:29.18\00:51:31.65 But, if we get it to the judgment and we haven't 00:51:31.69\00:51:34.09 confessed our sins, our sins follow us, so to speak, and our 00:51:34.12\00:51:37.73 names end up getting blotted out of the Lamb's Book of Life. 00:51:37.76\00:51:40.23 So you want to send your sins beforehand to the judgment, that 00:51:40.26\00:51:43.83 they can be blotted out. 00:51:43.87\00:51:45.17 Doug: Good point, great verse. 00:51:45.20\00:51:46.50 Jëan: Okay. Thank you. 00:51:46.53\00:51:49.20 Next caller that we have is Neil, listening in California, 00:51:49.24\00:51:51.41 or Nell. 00:51:51.44\00:51:52.77 Nell, welcome to the program. 00:51:52.81\00:51:54.38 Nell: Hi, thank you for taking my call. 00:51:54.41\00:51:57.18 I have a question. 00:51:57.21\00:51:58.55 Should Christians invest in like say like the S&P 500 considering 00:51:58.58\00:52:03.89 that there might be companies in there that, you know, provide 00:52:03.92\00:52:08.42 items that Christians would not take part of? 00:52:08.46\00:52:11.99 How should a Christian invest? 00:52:12.03\00:52:14.83 Doug: Yeah, that is a good question. 00:52:14.83\00:52:17.03 You know, at some point, every Christian needs to realize that, 00:52:17.07\00:52:21.34 you may invest in a bank. 00:52:21.37\00:52:25.11 When you put your money in a bank, you are basically 00:52:25.14\00:52:27.91 investing in the bank because they take your money. 00:52:27.94\00:52:29.71 They don't sit on it in a safe somewhere. 00:52:29.74\00:52:31.98 They take your money, and they invest in a broad spectrum 00:52:32.01\00:52:35.55 of stocks. 00:52:35.58\00:52:36.89 You're not responsible for that. 00:52:36.92\00:52:38.25 You're just, you know, putting your money in the bank, and even 00:52:38.29\00:52:40.22 Jesus recommends that. 00:52:40.26\00:52:41.92 For example, I don't want to support a tobacco or alcohol 00:52:41.96\00:52:46.43 industry, but, let's face it, every time you go to Walmart or 00:52:46.46\00:52:50.00 any supermarket, they sell these things that a Christian 00:52:50.03\00:52:53.70 shouldn't use. 00:52:53.74\00:52:55.07 Well, I can't let that, I can't torture my conscience because of 00:52:55.10\00:53:00.74 everything that a supermarket might sell. 00:53:00.78\00:53:02.48 I'd never find a supermarket to shop at. 00:53:02.51\00:53:04.95 And so, when you make an investment, if you buy a mutual 00:53:04.98\00:53:07.68 fund, fortunately, now there are some where you could say, I 00:53:07.72\00:53:10.52 want to buy they call them, the, a sin free or an ethical fund. 00:53:10.55\00:53:16.09 There are some funds that do not invest in the entertainment or 00:53:16.12\00:53:19.29 the tobacco companies, but I wouldn't say that a person 00:53:19.33\00:53:23.50 should feel concerned about investing in like the NASDAQ or 00:53:23.53\00:53:27.47 the S&P. 00:53:27.50\00:53:28.84 That's just a broad, it's like having your money in a bank. 00:53:28.87\00:53:30.57 It's kind of a broad fund. 00:53:30.61\00:53:31.91 I don't think we should speculate or gamble. 00:53:31.94\00:53:34.38 Some people are trading every day; it's almost like gambling. 00:53:34.41\00:53:37.25 But the Lord tells us that we should be wise in 00:53:37.28\00:53:40.72 our investment. 00:53:40.75\00:53:42.08 Don't bury our talent. 00:53:42.12\00:53:43.42 Otherwise he's going to say we're lazy servants, said you 00:53:43.45\00:53:46.39 should have at least put it in the bank so I'd get my interest. 00:53:46.42\00:53:49.16 I hope that makes some sense, Nell. 00:53:49.19\00:53:50.63 Thank you. 00:53:50.66\00:53:52.13 Yeah, we're surrounded as Christians with these moral 00:53:52.16\00:53:54.36 dilemmas all the time, Pastor Ross, where we've got to just 00:53:54.36\00:53:57.07 pray that God gives us wisdom. 00:53:57.10\00:53:58.43 We make good judgment. 00:53:58.47\00:53:59.90 But we also have to be able to negotiate our way through 00:53:59.93\00:54:02.54 this world. 00:54:02.57\00:54:03.91 For our listening friends, we sign off in two stages. 00:54:03.94\00:54:07.48 We say farewell first to those listening on satellite and thank 00:54:07.51\00:54:11.08 you for tuning in. 00:54:11.11\00:54:12.45 For the rest, if you stay by, we're coming back in a moment 00:54:12.48\00:54:14.78 with our online rapid fire Bible questions. 00:54:14.82\00:54:17.89 God bless to the rest. 00:54:17.92\00:54:19.62 male announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:54:22.69\00:54:25.36 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:54:25.39\00:54:28.90 Bible Answers Live is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:54:28.93\00:54:33.20 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:54:33.23\00:54:38.44 In six days, God created the heavens and the earth. 00:54:38.47\00:54:42.51 For thousands of years, man has worshiped God on the seventh day 00:54:42.54\00:54:46.51 of the week. 00:54:46.55\00:54:47.88 Now, each week millions of people worship on the first day. 00:54:47.92\00:54:51.92 What happened? 00:55:49.64\00:55:51.91 Is it spiritual or symbolic? 00:55:51.95\00:55:54.02 Doug: Well, both. 00:55:54.05\00:55:55.38 For one thing, pigs are scavengers, and our bodies are 00:55:55.42\00:56:00.62 the temple of the Holy Spirit. 00:56:00.66\00:56:02.19 You never brought an unclean animal into the temple. 00:56:02.22\00:56:05.39 Secondarily, it, so there's a command that they are unclean as 00:56:05.43\00:56:09.80 food as well. 00:56:09.83\00:56:11.37 Because they are scavengers, it was never God's plan for us to 00:56:11.40\00:56:14.24 eat any meat. 00:56:14.27\00:56:15.60 A man was made to be a vegetarian in the Garden 00:56:15.64\00:56:17.57 of Eden. 00:56:17.61\00:56:18.84 And he finally said, "Look, if you're going to eat meat, they 00:56:18.87\00:56:20.71 must be classified in the clean category." 00:56:20.74\00:56:24.55 And pigs are called pigs because they're pigs. 00:56:24.58\00:56:26.48 They're an abomination. 00:56:26.51\00:56:27.85 You shouldn't eat them. 00:56:27.88\00:56:29.12 They might make nice pets, like dogs, but don't eat dogs either. 00:56:29.15\00:56:32.45 Jëan: All right, Cathy is asking, can you please explain 00:56:32.49\00:56:35.52 what it means in the Bible when it refers to Jesus as the son 00:56:35.56\00:56:38.53 of David? 00:56:38.56\00:56:39.86 Isn't He the son of God? 00:56:39.89\00:56:41.20 Doug: Yeah. 00:56:41.23\00:56:42.53 Well, He's both. 00:56:42.56\00:56:43.90 Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, but He also, His mother 00:56:43.93\00:56:45.63 was a human, and both Mary and Joseph came from the line 00:56:45.67\00:56:49.60 of David. 00:56:49.64\00:56:50.97 God made a promise to David in, I think it's 1 Chronicles 00:56:51.01\00:56:53.68 chapter 17, that through his descendants, the Messiah would 00:56:53.71\00:56:57.55 come, the Savior would be a son of David. 00:56:57.58\00:57:00.68 And every Jew knew that; when Jesus came, they called him the 00:57:00.72\00:57:03.05 son of David. 00:57:03.08\00:57:04.39 They were basically saying, "You're the Messiah." 00:57:04.42\00:57:06.15 Jëan: All right. 00:57:06.19\00:57:07.49 Diane is asking, what does it mean to be absent from the body 00:57:07.52\00:57:09.22 and to be present with the Lord? 00:57:09.26\00:57:10.99 Doug: Yeah. 00:57:11.03\00:57:12.36 And that's coming to us from 1 Corinthians, is a chapter 5, and 00:57:12.39\00:57:15.46 you can start with verse 6, "So we are always confident, knowing 00:57:15.50\00:57:18.83 that while we're at home in the body, we're absent from 00:57:18.87\00:57:20.97 the Lord. 00:57:21.00\00:57:22.30 For we walk by faith and not by sight. 00:57:22.34\00:57:23.87 We're confident. 00:57:23.91\00:57:25.24 Yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and present 00:57:25.27\00:57:27.98 with the Lord." 00:57:28.01\00:57:29.31 Well, when a believer dies, their next conscious thought is 00:57:29.34\00:57:32.18 the resurrection, and they'll be in the presence of the Lord. 00:57:32.21\00:57:35.32 But, until the resurrection, like Lazarus, Jesus said, 00:57:35.35\00:57:38.82 "He's asleep." 00:57:38.85\00:57:40.16 We sleep a dreamless sleep. 00:57:40.19\00:57:41.52 For our loved ones that die, we can be praising God for their 00:57:41.56\00:57:44.36 benefit because we know their next conscious thought is 00:57:44.39\00:57:47.76 a resurrection. 00:57:47.83\00:57:49.10 But it hasn't happened. 00:57:49.13\00:57:50.47 Paul is also doing a, what you call, like a double entendre 00:57:50.50\00:57:53.77 here in that he's saying, "If you live in the Spirit, and 00:57:53.80\00:57:56.97 you're absent from the body, the flesh, you're walking with 00:57:57.01\00:58:00.28 the Lord." 00:58:00.31\00:58:01.64 So he's also doing a play on words here as well. 00:58:01.68\00:58:03.91 I don't know, now, 17 seconds; I can't do another question. 00:58:03.95\00:58:07.68 Listening friends, check out our Amazing Facts website, a lot of 00:58:07.72\00:58:11.32 things going on and coming up, AmazingFacts.org. 00:58:11.35\00:58:14.72 God willing, we'll study His Word with you again next week. 00:58:14.76\00:58:18.33 male announcer: Bible Answers Live! 00:58:20.50\00:58:22.40 Honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:22.43\00:58:26.47
