male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:02.93\00:00:05.47 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, and its 00:00:05.50\00:00:09.80 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.84\00:00:13.44 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.48\00:00:16.04 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.08\00:00:19.51 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:19.55\00:00:24.32 answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.35\00:00:28.39 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.42\00:00:31.13 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.16\00:00:33.43 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.46\00:00:38.63 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.67\00:00:43.84 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts 00:00:43.87\00:00:46.84 International, Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:46.88\00:00:49.78 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:49.81\00:00:51.11 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.15\00:00:53.75 During his travels in 1298, Marco Polo spoke of a bird in 00:00:53.78\00:00:58.25 Madagascar that was so big it could knock over an elephant. 00:00:58.29\00:01:02.66 Three hundred years later, early Arabian explorers returned from 00:01:02.69\00:01:06.39 the coast of East Africa with accounts of gigantic 00:01:06.43\00:01:09.36 birds three times as big as an ostrich. 00:01:09.40\00:01:12.63 At first, their stories were dismissed as 00:01:12.67\00:01:14.84 fables, but then they brought evidence: 00:01:14.87\00:01:18.24 huge eggs up to three feet in circumference. 00:01:18.27\00:01:22.14 They were, indeed, the eggs of a giant flightless bird from the 00:01:22.18\00:01:25.91 island of Madagascar that would, thanks to Marco Polo, become 00:01:25.95\00:01:29.62 known as the elephant bird or Aepyornis maximus. 00:01:29.65\00:01:34.26 The elephant bird, now extinct, was the 00:01:34.29\00:01:36.66 largest bird that has ever lived. 00:01:36.69\00:01:38.99 It's estimated to have weighed up to 1,100 pounds 00:01:39.03\00:01:41.80 and stand up to 11 feet tall. 00:01:41.83\00:01:44.27 The last sighting of a live bird was in 1649, 00:01:44.30\00:01:47.90 shortly after the French settled in Madagascar. 00:01:47.94\00:01:50.91 The early natives described the elephant bird as a shy giant 00:01:50.94\00:01:55.28 that was probably driven to extinction by people raiding 00:01:55.31\00:01:57.85 their nests for the extraordinary eggs. 00:01:57.88\00:02:00.48 One of the largest intact specimens is 35 inches in 00:02:00.52\00:02:04.59 circumference around its long axis and probably 00:02:04.62\00:02:07.72 had a capacity of more than 2 gallons. 00:02:07.76\00:02:11.49 I was calculating, Pastor Ross, that would probably 00:02:11.53\00:02:13.96 be about 150 omelets from one egg. 00:02:14.00\00:02:17.87 It was much bigger than any dinosaur egg 00:02:17.90\00:02:20.07 that's ever been discovered. 00:02:20.10\00:02:21.64 In fact, some biologists calculated that these eggs of 00:02:21.67\00:02:25.11 the elephant birds were the largest examples 00:02:25.14\00:02:27.91 of a single cell to have ever existed on earth. 00:02:27.94\00:02:32.21 It's sad when such an epic creature goes extinct but the 00:02:32.25\00:02:36.08 Bible says that some day all the wicked are going to be extinct 00:02:36.12\00:02:39.72 and the beautiful creatures are going to be restored. 00:02:39.75\00:02:42.26 Jean Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:02:42.29\00:02:43.59 You are talking about a big bird. 00:02:43.63\00:02:45.16 Of course, you mentioned ostriches and they 00:02:45.19\00:02:46.66 are big and you've seen them, I've been in 00:02:46.70\00:02:49.10 Africa, we've gotten up close to ostriches. 00:02:49.13\00:02:51.90 Actually, I've ridden an ostrich before, but to imagine a bird 00:02:51.93\00:02:55.54 this size, as described here, it would be really neat 00:02:55.57\00:02:58.74 to have been able to see it, but I think the last 00:02:58.77\00:03:00.94 sighting, you say, was in the 1600s? 00:03:00.98\00:03:02.64 Doug: They think about 1649. 00:03:02.68\00:03:05.51 And, you know, in the pictures that we just showed for those 00:03:05.55\00:03:08.05 who are watching the video of the radio program, there was 00:03:08.08\00:03:11.89 actually a picture of a very young David Attenborough holding 00:03:11.92\00:03:15.62 one of the eggs that they had kind of pieced it 00:03:15.66\00:03:17.76 back together from a broken specimen. 00:03:17.79\00:03:20.63 They--you know, they're out in the desert and it's 00:03:20.66\00:03:22.00 calcium and it lasts for hundreds of years. 00:03:22.03\00:03:24.00 So they put one back together and 00:03:24.03\00:03:25.50 they're just absolutely enormous. 00:03:25.53\00:03:27.64 And they believe this is where the Arabian legend of what they 00:03:27.67\00:03:30.91 called the Roc, the R-O-C--it was this giant bird-- 00:03:30.94\00:03:34.61 that's where those legends came from. 00:03:34.64\00:03:37.31 So, there really were some megafauna, big birds. 00:03:37.35\00:03:42.18 That's where "Sesame Street" got it, huh? 00:03:42.22\00:03:44.02 Something that used to live. 00:03:44.05\00:03:45.62 But you know, the Bible tells us that someday the wicked will be 00:03:45.65\00:03:50.06 extinct and all of the beautiful animals restored. 00:03:50.09\00:03:54.30 And God's going to make a new heaven and new earth. 00:03:54.30\00:03:57.27 You know, it says, "Blessed are the meek; 00:03:57.30\00:03:58.83 they will inherit the earth." 00:03:58.87\00:04:00.27 You can read in Psalm 37, verse 35 and 36: "I've seen 00:04:00.30\00:04:04.44 the wicked in great power, and spreading 00:04:04.47\00:04:06.71 himself like a native green tree. 00:04:06.74\00:04:08.88 Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; indeed I sought 00:04:08.91\00:04:13.62 him, but he could not be found." 00:04:13.65\00:04:16.65 Someday he tells us all the wicked are going to be gone 00:04:16.69\00:04:18.89 and God's going to create a new heaven, a new 00:04:18.92\00:04:20.89 earth, and, friends, that's why Jesus came. 00:04:20.92\00:04:23.63 He wants you to be in that kingdom with Him 00:04:23.66\00:04:26.29 and He's prepared a mansion for you. 00:04:26.33\00:04:28.33 And we have a book that talks about it if you'd like to know 00:04:28.36\00:04:30.57 more about the home that God has prepared for the saved. 00:04:30.60\00:04:33.97 Jean: A book, free offer, is called "Heaven, Is It for Real?" 00:04:34.00\00:04:37.37 And of course, it's for anyone who will call and ask. 00:04:37.41\00:04:39.91 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:04:39.94\00:04:44.38 That is our free offer number. 00:04:44.41\00:04:46.35 Just call that number and ask for "Heaven, Is It for Real?" 00:04:46.38\00:04:49.45 If you have your smartphone handy, you can dial #250, say, 00:04:49.48\00:04:52.95 "Bible Answers Live," and you can also ask for 00:04:52.99\00:04:55.22 it by name, "Heaven, Is It for Real?" 00:04:55.26\00:04:57.29 We'll be happy to send it to you if 00:04:57.33\00:04:58.63 you're in the US or in Canada. 00:04:58.66\00:05:00.93 If you're outside of North America, you can still receive 00:05:00.96\00:05:03.73 this by just going to our website, AmazingFacts.org, 00:05:03.77\00:05:07.90 and you'll be able to read it there. 00:05:07.94\00:05:09.87 Well, Pastor Doug, before we take our callers, 00:05:09.90\00:05:12.17 we have a number of folks who are waiting with 00:05:12.21\00:05:13.54 their Bible questions, let's start with prayer. 00:05:13.58\00:05:16.81 Dear Father, we thank You that we do have this time once again 00:05:16.85\00:05:19.08 to be able to open up Your Word and study. 00:05:19.11\00:05:21.58 There is power in the Word and so, Lord, we just pray for Your 00:05:21.62\00:05:24.59 blessing be with those who are listening and pray that You 00:05:24.62\00:05:27.26 guide us as we search the scriptures together. 00:05:27.29\00:05:29.52 And we thank You, Lord, in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:29.56\00:05:32.53 Doug: Amen. 00:05:32.56\00:05:33.86 Jean: Okay, well, we're ready to go to our first caller. 00:05:33.90\00:05:35.96 We've got Pam listening in L.A. 00:05:36.00\00:05:38.20 Pam, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:38.23\00:05:41.50 Pam: Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:05:41.54\00:05:44.71 Doug: Evening. Thank you for calling. 00:05:44.74\00:05:46.44 Pam: You're welcome. 00:05:46.47\00:05:47.98 My question is, is it okay to pray to the Holy Spirit, to ask 00:05:48.01\00:05:54.55 the Holy Spirit to lead me and to guide me? 00:05:54.58\00:05:58.55 Doug: Well, the Holy Spirit certainly is God the Spirit, you 00:05:58.59\00:06:01.66 know, the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit all 00:06:01.69\00:06:03.66 comprise the Godhead, sometimes called the Trinity. 00:06:03.69\00:06:08.43 And I don't know that there'd be anything wrong with it. 00:06:08.46\00:06:11.57 But typically, in the Bible, you've only got a couple of 00:06:11.60\00:06:15.10 examples of people actually praying to Jesus. 00:06:15.14\00:06:18.01 Usually, prayers are directed to the Father in Jesus's name. 00:06:18.04\00:06:21.98 And I'm trying to think of a prayer to the Spirit. 00:06:22.01\00:06:26.41 Well, it says, "The Spirit and the bride say come." 00:06:26.45\00:06:28.42 That's not really a prayer. 00:06:28.45\00:06:29.75 Can you--I don't know, Pastor Ross, I can't think 00:06:29.78\00:06:31.09 of someone praying directly to the Spirit. 00:06:31.12\00:06:33.56 Jean: I don't think so. 00:06:33.59\00:06:34.89 I mean, usually, like you say, prayers are directed to the 00:06:34.92\00:06:36.46 Father in the name of Christ and we are praying, asking for the 00:06:36.49\00:06:40.33 Holy Spirit, but not necessarily praying directly to the Holy 00:06:40.36\00:06:44.13 Spirit, although the Holy Spirit, the Bible makes it clear 00:06:44.17\00:06:46.57 that He does hear our prayers, He does intercede, He does move 00:06:46.60\00:06:49.74 upon our hearts to reveal to us what we need to pray. 00:06:49.77\00:06:52.74 But I was thinking the one, for example, when 00:06:52.77\00:06:56.08 Stephen was being stoned, he cried out and 00:06:56.11\00:06:58.05 he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my Spirit." 00:06:58.08\00:07:00.98 So there we have a prayer to Christ, but I don't know 00:07:01.02\00:07:03.89 if there is a mention in scripture where it's 00:07:03.92\00:07:06.92 specifically a prayer to the Holy Spirit. 00:07:06.96\00:07:09.29 Doug: No, you know, I don't think 00:07:09.32\00:07:10.63 there's anything wrong with it. 00:07:10.66\00:07:12.03 I would, you know, wonder why would someone want to, as 00:07:12.06\00:07:16.10 opposed to praying to the Father through Christ 00:07:16.13\00:07:19.97 or even praying to Jesus, but certainly there's 00:07:20.00\00:07:22.47 nothing wrong with praying to the Holy Spirit. 00:07:22.50\00:07:24.67 Jean: You know, we do have a book 00:07:24.71\00:07:26.01 talking about the Holy Spirit. 00:07:26.04\00:07:27.34 It's called, "Life in the Spirit," and we'll be happy 00:07:27.38\00:07:29.18 to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:07:29.21\00:07:30.78 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:07:30.81\00:07:33.88 You can ask for the book. 00:07:33.92\00:07:35.22 It's called, "Life in the Spirit." 00:07:35.25\00:07:36.62 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:07:36.65\00:07:41.06 Live," and then ask for the book by name: "Life in the Spirit." 00:07:41.09\00:07:44.96 Thank you, Pam. 00:07:44.99\00:07:46.29 We're going to go to Jeff in Washington. 00:07:46.33\00:07:48.50 Jeff, you're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:48.53\00:07:51.83 Jeff: All right, thank you for taking my call. 00:07:51.87\00:07:55.97 Doug: Absolutely. Thank you for calling. 00:07:56.00\00:07:58.27 Jeff: I have a question about--it has something to do 00:07:58.31\00:08:01.18 with Daniel chapter 9, the 70-week prophecy, and also 00:08:01.21\00:08:06.21 Daniel chapter 7, verse 25 speaks about this little horn 00:08:06.25\00:08:11.12 power was to seek to change times and laws and because they 00:08:11.15\00:08:16.09 usurp God's authority by removing the 70th 00:08:16.12\00:08:19.29 week to a unspecified time, you know, it's futurism, 00:08:19.33\00:08:24.13 wouldn't that also be changing times? 00:08:24.17\00:08:27.14 Doug: That's a good point, yeah. 00:08:27.17\00:08:29.60 You know, the beast power is seen in Daniel chapter 7, also 00:08:29.64\00:08:34.24 in Daniel chapter 8 for that matter, and in Daniel 9 too. 00:08:34.28\00:08:38.18 It's the early stages of the beast, anyway. 00:08:38.21\00:08:41.98 And futurism takes the last week of Daniel 9 and it just sort of 00:08:42.02\00:08:48.32 shifts it down to the end of time and floats somewhere, 00:08:48.36\00:08:51.33 wherever they want it to be, you know, wherever they say the 00:08:51.36\00:08:54.36 secret rapture will take place, that's when that week begins. 00:08:54.36\00:08:57.63 No example of carving up a prophecy like that and so, yeah, 00:08:57.67\00:09:00.97 they are changing a time in that respect. 00:09:01.00\00:09:03.20 It also means, of course, that beast power is establishing new 00:09:03.24\00:09:09.11 holy days and moving the standing holy day. 00:09:09.14\00:09:13.42 So they're taking times and laws that 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.62 are holy and shifting them around. 00:09:16.65\00:09:18.82 But I'd never thought of that. 00:09:18.85\00:09:20.42 What do you think? 00:09:20.46\00:09:21.76 Jean: Yeah, I think any time you start tampering with the 00:09:21.79\00:09:24.06 Word of God you're in trouble, and especially that prophecy. 00:09:24.09\00:09:27.00 And what's so beautiful about the 70 weeks, it actually 00:09:27.03\00:09:29.30 identifies when Christ would come and it describes His 00:09:29.33\00:09:32.77 ministry and talks about His death and His 00:09:32.80\00:09:34.60 Resurrection, then His Ascension, and the gospel going 00:09:34.64\00:09:36.77 out to the Gentile world in 34 A.D. 00:09:36.81\00:09:39.54 And the sad thing is they take that last week and they apply it 00:09:39.57\00:09:42.58 to an Antichrist power that they believe will appear in the last 00:09:42.61\00:09:46.31 seven--you know, during the Tribulation, these seven years 00:09:46.35\00:09:48.92 of Tribulation, but it's not biblical. 00:09:48.95\00:09:50.49 It's actually a prophecy pointing to Jesus, and they take 00:09:50.52\00:09:52.92 that same prophecy and they try and apply it to an Antichrist 00:09:52.95\00:09:56.12 power at the end, which is kind of sad. 00:09:56.16\00:09:58.49 Doug: It is, it's heartbreaking. 00:09:58.53\00:10:00.00 Jean: Yeah, it's an important prophecy. 00:10:00.03\00:10:01.33 It's a great study. 00:10:01.36\00:10:02.66 We do have a study guide that talks about 00:10:02.70\00:10:04.07 that and it's called "Right on Time!" 00:10:04.10\00:10:06.80 and it deals with the 70 weeks of Daniel chapter 9 and we'll be 00:10:06.84\00:10:11.24 happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:10:11.27\00:10:13.11 The number is 800-835-6747, 00:10:13.14\00:10:16.14 and you can ask for that study guide. 00:10:16.18\00:10:17.48 It's called "Right on Time!" 00:10:17.51\00:10:19.48 Or dial #250 on your smartphone and ask "Bible 00:10:19.51\00:10:23.12 Answers Live," and then say, "Right on Time!" 00:10:23.15\00:10:24.95 That's the name of the lesson. 00:10:24.99\00:10:26.29 We'll send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:10:26.32\00:10:28.26 We've got Brittany listening in California. 00:10:28.29\00:10:30.66 Brittany, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:30.69\00:10:33.29 Brittany: Hi, hey. 00:10:33.33\00:10:35.26 Doug: Hi, how are you doing? 00:10:35.30\00:10:37.00 And your question tonight? 00:10:37.03\00:10:38.50 Brittany: Yeah, my question involves Revelation 00:10:38.53\00:10:41.60 11:19 which says, "Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and 00:10:41.64\00:10:47.01 within His temple was seen the ark of the covenant." 00:10:47.04\00:10:51.21 I was wondering how does that even relate to our time with all 00:10:51.25\00:10:55.35 the endtimes events and the global outcry with Israel 00:10:55.38\00:11:00.69 and just all the crazy going ons with--and the 00:11:00.72\00:11:05.29 endtimes events slowly coming to a head even 00:11:05.33\00:11:08.56 with political craziness with the president 00:11:08.60\00:11:12.70 and government and all the madness. 00:11:12.73\00:11:15.57 Doug: Yeah, let me read this first, Brittany, 00:11:15.60\00:11:17.11 for our friends that are listening. 00:11:17.14\00:11:18.61 It says, "And then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and 00:11:18.64\00:11:21.48 the ark of His covenant was seen in the temple. 00:11:21.51\00:11:25.35 And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, 00:11:25.38\00:11:28.02 an earthquake, and great hail." 00:11:28.05\00:11:29.92 Now, looking at other places in Revelation, just before the 00:11:29.95\00:11:33.12 Second Coming, there's lightning, noises, 00:11:33.15\00:11:35.92 thunderings, earthquake, and a great hail. 00:11:35.96\00:11:38.16 Talks about a great hail falls upon the wicked. 00:11:38.19\00:11:40.73 It's not so much the ark as what's in the ark. 00:11:40.76\00:11:44.03 The ark is a container for the law of God, and it tells us 00:11:44.07\00:11:48.74 that, you know, at the end, the law of God's going to 00:11:48.77\00:11:50.91 be exalted when something's in heaven. 00:11:50.94\00:11:53.27 It's interesting, Pastor Ross, Jesus said, "Heaven 00:11:53.31\00:11:55.81 and earth would have to pass away before 00:11:55.84\00:11:57.51 one tittle of the law would fail." 00:11:57.55\00:11:59.85 And that's because man can't take away the 00:11:59.88\00:12:01.95 heavens and there's a copy up there anyway, 00:12:01.98\00:12:04.35 the heavens will be open, it's there. 00:12:04.39\00:12:06.42 But there may be some prophetic significance here. 00:12:06.45\00:12:09.59 What do you think? 00:12:09.62\00:12:10.93 Jean: Yeah, I mean, the whole passage, you read Revelation 00:12:10.96\00:12:12.49 chapter 11, it talks about the sounding of the seventh trumpet. 00:12:12.53\00:12:16.06 There's actually several themes that you find in Revelation 11. 00:12:16.10\00:12:18.87 It talks about the two witnesses and then, following that, talks 00:12:18.90\00:12:21.34 about the sounding of the seventh trumpet and it talks 00:12:21.37\00:12:24.41 about the nations being angry and the time of 00:12:24.44\00:12:26.44 the dead that they should be judged. 00:12:26.47\00:12:27.81 And then it says, "And I saw the ark of the covenant in heaven." 00:12:27.84\00:12:31.71 So, this is a description of an event described in heaven. 00:12:31.75\00:12:35.38 The sounding of the seventh trumpet, really, historically, 00:12:35.42\00:12:38.25 began at the end of the 2,300 days, which is in 1844. 00:12:38.29\00:12:42.36 We don't have time to get into all the details, but we're 00:12:42.39\00:12:44.73 living in that special endtime period, and it's interesting, in 00:12:44.76\00:12:49.90 1844 or shortly thereafter, it was a significant year. 00:12:49.93\00:12:53.23 Not only religious but also in scientific advancements. 00:12:53.27\00:12:56.40 Very interesting study just for the year 1884, 00:12:56.44\00:12:58.91 but after that, people began to study the Word of God. 00:12:58.94\00:13:02.11 They began to realize the importance of the Ten 00:13:02.14\00:13:04.61 Commandments, not that we are saved through obedience to the 00:13:04.65\00:13:06.61 Ten Commandments, but we are saved in order to obey. 00:13:06.65\00:13:10.09 And they realized the fourth commandment, 00:13:10.12\00:13:12.12 one that has to do with the Sabbath. 00:13:12.15\00:13:13.82 So, right around that time, the law of God was being studied, 00:13:13.86\00:13:17.76 the Word was being studied, the Second Coming, and it all ties 00:13:17.79\00:13:20.40 into what we read about under the seventh trumpet. 00:13:20.43\00:13:23.40 Doug: Yeah, it's also, I think it hearkens back to when, 00:13:23.43\00:13:28.40 on the seventh day, they marched around the city seven times, 00:13:28.44\00:13:31.61 they blew seven trumpets and the last--that last trumpet was the 00:13:31.64\00:13:35.11 fall of Jericho and God's people taking the Promised Land. 00:13:35.14\00:13:39.38 So, you're seeing that this is what's happening just 00:13:39.41\00:13:42.72 before we get to go to the Promised Land. 00:13:42.75\00:13:45.65 So, well, good question. Thank you, Brittany. 00:13:45.69\00:13:48.12 Jean: We've got Gary listening in Illinois. 00:13:48.16\00:13:49.72 Gary, welcome to the program. 00:13:49.76\00:13:51.79 Gary: How do you do. Doug: Yeah. 00:13:51.83\00:13:53.16 Gary: Seeing that we're already experiencing prophecy 00:13:53.19\00:13:55.56 come true on climate change and political perilous times, would 00:13:55.60\00:13:59.83 practicing the great commission be the most important 00:13:59.87\00:14:03.61 expectation from God? 00:14:03.64\00:14:05.57 Doug: Yeah, you know, Jesus said, "The gospel of this 00:14:05.61\00:14:07.51 kingdom," this is Matthew 24:14. 00:14:07.54\00:14:09.81 "The gospel of this kingdom will be preached in all the world for 00:14:09.84\00:14:12.81 a witness." 00:14:12.85\00:14:14.15 That's the Great Commission, "And then the end will come." 00:14:14.18\00:14:16.58 It's interesting you would mention what you said about 00:14:16.62\00:14:19.85 what's going on with the political unrest and the world. 00:14:19.89\00:14:23.66 We just read that there from Revelation 11 00:14:23.69\00:14:26.90 where it said, "The nations are angry. 00:14:26.93\00:14:29.20 The time of Your wrath has come, that the dead should be judged 00:14:29.23\00:14:32.33 and You'll destroy those who destroy the earth." 00:14:32.37\00:14:34.57 And you know, we see a big uptick of war right now and war 00:14:34.60\00:14:39.14 on a level that--more sophisticated man 00:14:39.17\00:14:42.14 gets with artificial intelligence and the 00:14:42.18\00:14:44.11 weaponry, it becomes more lethal. 00:14:44.15\00:14:46.61 And, yeah, you just wonder how much longer. 00:14:46.65\00:14:51.49 Can't be much longer before Jesus comes. 00:14:51.52\00:14:53.69 But yeah, we should be emphasizing 00:14:53.72\00:14:55.09 the Great Commission. 00:14:55.12\00:14:56.62 Thank you, Gary. Appreciate that. 00:14:56.66\00:14:58.43 Jean: All right, we got Bruce listening in North Carolina. 00:14:58.46\00:15:00.93 Bruce, welcome to the program. 00:15:00.96\00:15:03.70 Bruce: Hello, Pastors. 00:15:03.73\00:15:05.10 I've got--this'll be fast. 00:15:05.13\00:15:06.94 I got two questions. 00:15:06.97\00:15:10.24 What Bible programs do you two personally use? 00:15:10.27\00:15:15.91 Logos is my go-to but I also have e-Sword. 00:15:15.94\00:15:19.81 And my second question is, is when I watch Pastor Doug preach, 00:15:19.85\00:15:24.72 he's got stickers on the inside cover of his Bible. 00:15:24.75\00:15:28.49 I often wonder how he used them or what were they for. 00:15:28.52\00:15:31.29 Doug: Yeah, okay, two good practical questions. 00:15:31.33\00:15:34.20 Yeah, Pastor Ross and I use Logos. 00:15:34.23\00:15:37.87 I use Logos quite a bit and I also use e-Sword. 00:15:37.90\00:15:41.04 That's a free program you can download. 00:15:41.07\00:15:42.87 On our phones we've got--e-Sword has a phone application. 00:15:42.90\00:15:48.41 The Blue-Letter Bible, Olive Tree is another good program. 00:15:48.44\00:15:52.78 And then if you're studying the Bible on the internet, there's 00:15:52.81\00:15:55.55 Bible Gateway, and all of them have reading through the Bible 00:15:55.58\00:15:58.69 apps where you can read through the Bible. 00:15:58.72\00:16:00.16 And what was the one you use for reading out loud? 00:16:00.19\00:16:01.72 Jean: It's called Dwell. Doug: Dwell? 00:16:01.76\00:16:03.19 Jean: Mm-hm. Doug: And yeah. 00:16:03.22\00:16:04.53 Jean: Bible-reading program, also an app. 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.36 But you know, there are different-- 00:16:06.39\00:16:07.66 there are some free resources. 00:16:07.73\00:16:09.00 Of course, if one has Logos, there's--it does 00:16:09.03\00:16:11.43 cost and, depending which version you have, 00:16:11.47\00:16:13.20 you can spend quite a bit of money. 00:16:13.23\00:16:14.87 It's very in-depth and it has a lot of features, but there are 00:16:14.90\00:16:19.07 other free programs, I think e-Sword is one, 00:16:19.11\00:16:21.44 that you can really have a great study, 00:16:21.48\00:16:24.98 and it's got the Strong's Concordance. 00:16:25.01\00:16:26.88 You can look up different translations, 00:16:26.92\00:16:28.55 you can search a word in the original language. 00:16:28.58\00:16:31.35 So there's a number of great features to help in Bible study. 00:16:31.39\00:16:35.06 Doug: And the little tabs you see when I'm 00:16:35.09\00:16:36.69 preaching, I just--I buy these at Walmart. 00:16:36.73\00:16:39.69 They're little markers and it helps me quickly find a passage 00:16:39.73\00:16:43.30 in my Bible and I usually print my scriptures that I'm going to 00:16:43.33\00:16:47.04 read in the front of my Bible because when you're doing 00:16:47.07\00:16:49.94 television, time is very important, very valuable. 00:16:49.97\00:16:53.31 You spend a lot of money for a minute. 00:16:53.34\00:16:54.91 And so, I try not to waste a lot of time turning 00:16:54.94\00:16:57.65 pages while people are just waiting. 00:16:57.68\00:16:59.51 I have it all ready to go to quickly. 00:16:59.55\00:17:01.18 So I pre-mark things that I know I'm going to read in advance. 00:17:01.22\00:17:05.05 Thanks. Nice practical question, Bruce. 00:17:05.09\00:17:07.79 Jean: We've got Glenn listening in Ohio. 00:17:07.82\00:17:09.92 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:17:09.96\00:17:12.39 Glenn: Oh, good evening and thank you for taking my call. 00:17:12.43\00:17:14.76 Doug: Thank you, Glenn. 00:17:14.83\00:17:16.10 Glenn: In the Bible, there's a--the parable of the talents 00:17:16.13\00:17:19.17 where a person was given ten talents, another 00:17:19.20\00:17:22.14 person five talents, and a third person one talent. 00:17:22.17\00:17:26.41 And as time went on, they were questioned 00:17:26.44\00:17:29.14 about what they did with their talents. 00:17:29.18\00:17:31.98 And the ten talents and five talents, they invested 00:17:32.01\00:17:35.65 them or put their talents at risk, 00:17:35.68\00:17:38.85 and they were given bountiful increase. 00:17:38.89\00:17:42.66 The person with the one talent did not invest his, and not only 00:17:42.69\00:17:48.40 did he lose that talent, but he ended up with nothing. 00:17:48.43\00:17:52.77 So we're talking about investing and gambling. 00:17:52.80\00:17:58.57 There's a situation where someone, the pastors, the board 00:17:58.61\00:18:02.68 puts money aside for their pastor for their 00:18:02.71\00:18:05.91 retirement and they invest that money. 00:18:05.95\00:18:08.38 They put that money at risk in the stock market. 00:18:08.42\00:18:11.05 But then there's somebody who wants to play 00:18:11.09\00:18:12.39 the lottery and they put their dollar and buy 00:18:12.42\00:18:14.79 a lottery ticket and they call that gambling. 00:18:14.82\00:18:17.93 And I was just thinking the Bible kind of exonerates 00:18:17.96\00:18:22.16 investing your money but what do the person who is-- 00:18:22.20\00:18:28.64 Doug: Buying a lotto ticket. 00:18:28.67\00:18:29.97 Glenn: Investing in a lottery ticket. 00:18:30.01\00:18:31.97 Doug: Yeah, that's a good question. 00:18:32.01\00:18:33.48 Glenn: He's using the baby's milk money. 00:18:33.51\00:18:35.64 I think that that may be the difference 00:18:35.68\00:18:37.55 between an investment and gambling. 00:18:37.58\00:18:41.18 If you use the baby's milk money, 00:18:41.22\00:18:43.02 wherever you use it, does that make sense? 00:18:43.05\00:18:45.59 Doug: Well, I think I understand the question, but 00:18:45.62\00:18:48.26 there is a big difference between playing the lottery. 00:18:48.29\00:18:51.49 Now, if you're gambling, if you go to a casino or you're playing 00:18:51.53\00:18:53.90 the lottery, your chances of winning, you've 00:18:53.93\00:18:57.00 got a better chance of getting struck by lightning. 00:18:57.03\00:18:59.60 It's very, very remote. 00:18:59.63\00:19:01.74 And if you go gamble, we know that the casinos 00:19:01.77\00:19:04.17 exist because the house always wins. 00:19:04.21\00:19:07.24 Very few people come away in the long term 00:19:07.28\00:19:10.81 with money from a casino. 00:19:10.85\00:19:12.28 They usually lose. 00:19:12.31\00:19:13.82 When you're investing carefully in the 00:19:13.85\00:19:17.52 stock market--which is what banks do. 00:19:17.55\00:19:19.49 Banks are always investing in stocks 00:19:19.52\00:19:20.92 and bonds or treasuries, whatever. 00:19:20.96\00:19:22.79 Over time, the value of real estate, it goes up 00:19:22.82\00:19:26.16 and down but, in the long haul, it goes up. 00:19:26.19\00:19:28.00 It's a much, much safer investment. 00:19:28.03\00:19:30.53 And when Jesus talks about them investing, you could even, you 00:19:30.57\00:19:34.20 know, put your money in the bank and you'll get at least minimal 00:19:34.24\00:19:36.17 savings and that's why Jesus said, "Well, 00:19:36.20\00:19:38.94 you could have at least," to the--what did he call? 00:19:38.97\00:19:40.98 The lazy servant? 00:19:41.01\00:19:42.31 He said, "You could have at least given it 00:19:42.34\00:19:43.65 to the bankers and gotten interest." 00:19:43.68\00:19:45.75 So God expects us to invest and trade and grow. 00:19:45.78\00:19:49.68 He wants us to do it wisely. 00:19:49.72\00:19:51.55 I had a friend who's a farmer. 00:19:51.59\00:19:53.42 He said, "Farming's a gamble." 00:19:53.46\00:19:56.36 And we'd all starve if they didn't do it, 00:19:56.39\00:19:58.43 so usually it pays off, but sometimes you have a 00:19:58.46\00:20:00.63 bad year and you can have losses. 00:20:00.66\00:20:04.33 You can have seven years of plenty and a few years of want. 00:20:04.37\00:20:07.60 So the Lord wants us to invest and use good judgment, but when 00:20:07.64\00:20:10.97 you get in the realm of gambling, it's a reckless 00:20:11.01\00:20:13.31 speculation and that, I think, the Bible condemns. 00:20:13.34\00:20:16.64 Jean: Okay, thank you, Glenn. 00:20:16.68\00:20:18.38 We've got Lee listening in Texas. 00:20:18.41\00:20:20.75 Lee, you're on the air. Welcome to the program. 00:20:20.78\00:20:23.25 Lee: Yes, sir, thank you. 00:20:23.28\00:20:24.72 My question for tonight is are there other signs 00:20:24.75\00:20:28.16 a person has done the unpardonable sin? 00:20:28.19\00:20:32.63 Doug: Yeah, how do we know if a person 00:20:32.66\00:20:34.60 has committed the unpardonable sin? 00:20:34.63\00:20:36.33 Well, for one thing, typically, they don't hear the voice of the 00:20:36.36\00:20:40.67 Holy Spirit speaking to them, they don't feel a sense of 00:20:40.70\00:20:45.57 conviction or any desire to repent and be at peace with God. 00:20:45.61\00:20:51.21 And the devil, I think, sometimes tries to convince 00:20:51.25\00:20:54.02 people they've committed the unpardonable sin when they 00:20:54.05\00:20:56.15 haven't and they become very discouraged and hard on 00:20:56.18\00:21:00.76 themselves and the devil would like for them to just give up 00:21:00.79\00:21:03.06 hope, but God is almost always willing to forgive 00:21:03.09\00:21:11.03 a lot more than we're willing to ask. 00:21:11.07\00:21:13.44 And He's very patient. 00:21:13.47\00:21:15.80 Now, there'll be a time at the end of time when Christ stands 00:21:15.84\00:21:18.04 up and probation closes and the saved are saved and the lost are 00:21:18.07\00:21:21.81 lost, but most of the time if a person is asking about 00:21:21.84\00:21:25.41 committing the unpardonable sin, they haven't committed it 'cause 00:21:25.45\00:21:29.25 they've got a desire, a yearning, a conviction, 00:21:29.28\00:21:32.22 of the Spirit working in their heart. 00:21:32.25\00:21:34.49 Jean: You know, we have a book called-- 00:21:34.52\00:21:36.96 Doug: About the unpardonable sin. 00:21:36.99\00:21:38.29 Jean: I'm trying to think what the name 00:21:38.33\00:21:39.63 of the book is, Pastor Doug. 00:21:39.66\00:21:40.96 Doug: I think it used to be called "Beyond Mercy," and now 00:21:40.96\00:21:42.53 it's just called "What is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:21:42.56\00:21:44.23 Jean: There you go. That's easy enough. 00:21:44.27\00:21:45.63 If you'd like to receive that and learn more, 00:21:45.67\00:21:47.07 the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:21:47.10\00:21:50.14 You can just ask for the book. 00:21:50.17\00:21:51.47 It's called, "What is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:21:51.51\00:21:53.74 We'll be happy to send it to anyone in the US or in Canada. 00:21:53.78\00:21:56.61 Again, if you're outside of North America, 00:21:56.64\00:21:58.15 just visit the website, AmazingFacts.org. 00:21:58.18\00:22:01.75 Our next caller that we have is John, listening in Michigan. 00:22:01.78\00:22:04.42 John, welcome to the program. 00:22:04.45\00:22:06.19 Well, actually, it's Aaron. 00:22:06.22\00:22:07.79 Aaron, welcome, from New York. 00:22:07.82\00:22:09.79 Aaron: Good evening, Pastors. Doug: Evening. 00:22:09.82\00:22:11.76 Aaron: Revelation 21 says that "There will be a new heaven 00:22:11.79\00:22:14.46 and a new earth, and the first heaven and the first earth will 00:22:14.50\00:22:17.33 pass away. 00:22:17.37\00:22:18.73 And that the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell 00:22:18.77\00:22:22.57 with them." 00:22:22.60\00:22:24.21 What I got from this is that God will leave the heaven where He 00:22:24.24\00:22:27.78 dwells in now and make a new dwelling place on earth. 00:22:27.81\00:22:31.95 But someone told me that the first heaven and the first--no, 00:22:31.98\00:22:35.68 the first heaven is only the atmosphere 00:22:35.72\00:22:38.69 around earth and God will never leave His 00:22:38.72\00:22:42.36 headquarters from where it is now. 00:22:42.39\00:22:45.16 Which of these two ideas is right? 00:22:45.19\00:22:48.60 Doug: Well, when John says, "The first heaven and earth pass 00:22:48.63\00:22:51.60 away," the Jews had three words they used for heaven. 00:22:51.63\00:22:55.54 Sometimes, they'd use the word heaven and they're talking 00:22:55.57\00:22:57.77 about the air where the clouds are and the birds fly. 00:22:57.81\00:23:02.14 That's in Revelation where it says, "God separated 00:23:02.18\00:23:04.28 the waters above from the waters below, 00:23:04.31\00:23:06.65 and He made a heaven and atmosphere." 00:23:06.68\00:23:09.55 And they called that the first heaven. 00:23:09.58\00:23:11.02 Second heaven is where the stars are. 00:23:11.05\00:23:12.55 Third heaven is where God dwells. 00:23:12.59\00:23:14.16 Paul says, "I was caught up to the third heaven." 00:23:14.19\00:23:17.33 But in Revelation the context says he--when he says, "First 00:23:17.36\00:23:20.36 heaven was passed away," he's talking about the former. 00:23:20.40\00:23:23.47 The one--the earth and the heaven 00:23:23.50\00:23:24.90 that existed first is gone. 00:23:24.93\00:23:28.27 So we got a new atmosphere, a new world, and God, we know He's 00:23:28.30\00:23:32.14 going to dwell with men 'cause it says, "And the 00:23:32.17\00:23:33.68 new Jerusalem comes down out of heaven." 00:23:33.71\00:23:36.61 God is in the city. God Himself will dwell with us. 00:23:36.64\00:23:39.75 He's moving the capital of the universe to our planet because 00:23:39.78\00:23:43.05 we're made in His image and we will dwell with Him. 00:23:43.08\00:23:46.79 So I think it's pretty clear that 00:23:46.82\00:23:48.69 God is going to, ultimately, move. 00:23:48.72\00:23:51.33 Christ has become a human. 00:23:51.36\00:23:52.66 He's joined Himself forever to our race, 00:23:52.69\00:23:56.23 and He's going to move down to this world. 00:23:56.26\00:23:59.93 Yeah, that's--you'd enjoy the free offer 00:24:00.04\00:24:02.14 about "Heaven: Is It for Real?" that we're offering today. 00:24:02.17\00:24:04.74 Jean: Yeah, that one or I thought of another one 00:24:04.77\00:24:06.11 also, called, "A Colossal City in Space." 00:24:06.14\00:24:07.68 Doug: There you go. That'd be good too. 00:24:07.71\00:24:09.01 Jean: Talks about the Revelation 21 00:24:09.04\00:24:10.45 and the new Jerusalem. 00:24:10.48\00:24:11.98 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:24:12.01\00:24:15.65 You can ask for that study guide, 00:24:15.68\00:24:16.99 "A Colossal City in Space." 00:24:17.02\00:24:19.02 If you haven't called and asked for the 00:24:19.05\00:24:20.56 free offer, "Heaven: Is It for Real?" 00:24:20.59\00:24:21.92 you can ask for that as well. 00:24:21.96\00:24:23.63 You can dial #250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers 00:24:23.66\00:24:27.60 Live," and then just ask for it by name. 00:24:27.66\00:24:30.30 It is "A Colossal City in Space," 00:24:30.33\00:24:33.03 and "Heaven: Is It for Real?" 00:24:33.07\00:24:35.00 We've got John from Michigan. 00:24:35.04\00:24:36.54 John, welcome to the program. 00:24:36.57\00:24:38.07 John: Hi, how are you? Thank you for taking my call. 00:24:38.11\00:24:40.34 I appreciate your show. It's helped me a lot. 00:24:40.38\00:24:42.88 Doug: Amen, thank you. 00:24:42.91\00:24:44.21 John: My question is regarding the Sabbath. 00:24:44.25\00:24:46.25 I've--you know, I grew up Christian school and just 00:24:46.28\00:24:50.25 recently this, you know, Sabbath awareness came up in--my job 00:24:50.29\00:24:55.92 has, you know, they've switched my schedule to where I work 00:24:55.96\00:24:58.96 weekends and nights and I'm having a hard time making the 00:24:58.99\00:25:04.80 transition because I have so many people relying 00:25:04.83\00:25:07.94 on my income and I'm just kind of lost. 00:25:07.97\00:25:12.41 Doug: Oh boy, that sounds like a challenge. 00:25:12.44\00:25:15.04 Well, you know, the first thing is and I'm not saying it's easy, 00:25:15.08\00:25:19.88 but the first thing is you have to make up your mind, 00:25:19.91\00:25:22.92 "Am I committed to obey what God says," whether 00:25:22.95\00:25:26.65 it's the Sabbath or any commandment. 00:25:26.69\00:25:29.69 And you know, there'll be pressures. 00:25:29.72\00:25:33.09 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were pressured. 00:25:33.13\00:25:35.33 They were going to lose their job and their lives if they did 00:25:35.36\00:25:37.53 not pray to the graven image or bow before it. 00:25:37.57\00:25:41.00 They said, "We can't do that." 00:25:41.04\00:25:42.44 And Daniel was going to lose his job and his life 00:25:42.47\00:25:46.14 if he prayed to anybody but the king. 00:25:46.17\00:25:48.18 That would break the first commandment, 00:25:48.21\00:25:49.81 "Don't have other gods." 00:25:49.84\00:25:52.21 You need courage also in keeping the fourth commandment. 00:25:52.25\00:25:55.18 Now what to do is, you know, you might go to your boss, I don't 00:25:55.22\00:25:58.19 know all the circumstances, and we can certainly 00:25:58.22\00:26:01.19 pray that God work things out, but you can just 00:26:01.22\00:26:04.19 tell your boss, you know, this is a conviction. 00:26:04.23\00:26:06.43 I'm an honest worker but, you know, I want to keep my Sabbath. 00:26:06.46\00:26:11.23 Fortunately, in North America, there are a number of laws on 00:26:11.27\00:26:14.17 the book--books, that help people through, 00:26:14.20\00:26:17.97 or that guide employers to respect the 00:26:18.01\00:26:20.21 religious convictions of their employees. 00:26:20.24\00:26:22.98 Now, some circumstances are different, but I'd just have a 00:26:23.01\00:26:27.22 heart-to-heart or write a letter with your boss. 00:26:27.25\00:26:29.22 If you walk in, face to face, is better, and just tell him why 00:26:29.25\00:26:32.42 this is really important to you and it's creating quite a 00:26:32.45\00:26:35.06 struggle 'cause you love your job but you love God also and 00:26:35.09\00:26:37.99 you want to keep His commandments. 00:26:38.03\00:26:39.33 Jean: And, you know, if you are attending a 00:26:39.36\00:26:40.66 Sabbath-keeping church, sometimes you can go to the 00:26:40.70\00:26:42.90 pastor there and--I know we've done it a number of times. 00:26:42.93\00:26:45.57 We'll write a letter on behalf of that person stating that they 00:26:45.60\00:26:48.40 do attend regularly, it's the day of worship. 00:26:48.44\00:26:51.77 We, you know, appreciate their boss or their 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.44 work accommodating them in any way possible. 00:26:54.48\00:26:57.21 And of course, you need to be willing to even work at 00:26:57.25\00:26:59.68 different times so that you can get your Sabbath off. 00:26:59.71\00:27:02.52 Doug: Yeah, very good. 00:27:02.55\00:27:04.42 Thank you for your question, John. 00:27:04.45\00:27:06.15 I hope that helps a little bit. 00:27:06.19\00:27:07.79 By the way, friends, we're not done. you, as well as KFHL in Bakersfield, California. 00:31:03.56\00:31:08.93 So, it's welcome to those who are listening, 00:31:08.96\00:31:10.57 and if you have a Bible question, give us a call. 00:31:10.60\00:31:12.67 The number is 800-463-7297. 00:31:12.70\00:31:16.94 Next caller is Sam listening in Ohio. 00:31:16.97\00:31:19.11 Sam, welcome to the program. 00:31:19.14\00:31:21.88 Sam: Hi, Pastors. 00:31:21.91\00:31:23.48 Doug: Hi. 00:31:23.51\00:31:25.31 Sam: My question is from Luke chapter 21, in verse 24. 00:31:25.35\00:31:33.19 The end of that verse says, "Jerusalem will be trampled by 00:31:33.22\00:31:36.93 Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." 00:31:36.96\00:31:42.36 And I was wondering what this times of the Gentiles means. 00:31:42.40\00:31:47.17 Doug: Yeah, boy, that is a--that is a great question. 00:31:47.20\00:31:49.37 It's also--the answer has different 00:31:49.40\00:31:52.77 advocates for different views. 00:31:52.81\00:31:55.28 And it could actually be one of the examples of 00:31:55.31\00:31:57.25 a dual prophecy, where there's more than one. 00:31:57.28\00:32:01.22 So, it's very clearly talking about that Jerusalem, 00:32:01.25\00:32:06.19 right on the surface, you see the disciples had 00:32:06.22\00:32:07.92 asked Jesus, He said there would not be one 00:32:07.96\00:32:10.09 stone left upon another in the temple. 00:32:10.13\00:32:12.33 So the context of His answer, He's talking about the temple 00:32:12.36\00:32:15.73 being destroyed, the Romans destroying Jerusalem, the Jews 00:32:15.76\00:32:18.93 being carried off in captivity, especially in Luke 'cause Luke, 00:32:18.97\00:32:22.97 on the way to the cross, Jesus tells the women, "Don't cry for 00:32:23.00\00:32:25.64 Me, but cry for yourselves because," you know, "you'll say, 00:32:25.67\00:32:29.48 'Blessed are the barren that did not bear.'" 00:32:29.51\00:32:31.35 So He was telling the people in Jerusalem 00:32:31.38\00:32:33.72 that judgment was coming. 00:32:33.75\00:32:35.98 And so it says Jerusalem would be trodden by the Gentiles. 00:32:36.02\00:32:38.35 Well, that happened. 00:32:38.39\00:32:39.69 The Romans took it and it bounced around 00:32:39.72\00:32:41.32 between the Crusaders and the Arabs and 00:32:41.36\00:32:43.16 everybody in between, and the English. 00:32:43.19\00:32:45.99 Until, miracle of miracles, 1948, they 00:32:46.03\00:32:50.27 became an independent nation again. 00:32:50.30\00:32:52.73 So I think right on the surface, historically, 00:32:52.77\00:32:54.80 you see something happening here. 00:32:54.84\00:32:56.47 But then there's those who say Jerusalem being trodden by the 00:32:56.50\00:33:00.38 Gentiles is also talking about the persecution 00:33:00.41\00:33:02.51 of the church and the ultimate liberation of 00:33:02.54\00:33:05.18 the new Jerusalem and victory over the evil. 00:33:05.21\00:33:08.42 So, it could mean both and I don't know if 00:33:08.45\00:33:13.36 you have any thoughts on that, Pastor Ross? 00:33:13.39\00:33:14.76 Jean: I agree. 00:33:14.79\00:33:16.02 I think it's definitely--it just seems, just reading it as it is, 00:33:16.06\00:33:19.03 talking about literal Jerusalem, it's talking about the literal 00:33:19.06\00:33:21.66 destruction in 70 A.D., and it's talking about the 00:33:21.70\00:33:24.37 Gentiles, until their time be fulfilled, and 00:33:24.40\00:33:26.47 historically we can see, yes, that did occur. 00:33:26.50\00:33:29.04 The Jews are back in Jerusalem, back in Israel. 00:33:29.07\00:33:32.17 But yeah, there could be a broader application as you 00:33:32.21\00:33:34.28 mentioned, a spiritual connection there. 00:33:34.31\00:33:36.21 We've got Susie listening in California. 00:33:36.24\00:33:37.75 Susie, welcome to the program. 00:33:37.78\00:33:39.38 Susie: Hello. Good evening, Pastors. 00:33:39.41\00:33:41.32 Doug: Evening. 00:33:41.35\00:33:42.85 Susie: And thank you for taking my call. 00:33:42.88\00:33:44.72 My question is can I be saved without reading my Bible? 00:33:44.75\00:33:49.09 Because a lot of my church leaders had 00:33:49.12\00:33:51.26 told me that Bible couldn't save me. 00:33:51.29\00:33:54.36 Doug: Well, you know, what we're saved by is faith in 00:33:54.36\00:33:58.43 Jesus, and the Bible says, "Faith comes by 00:33:58.47\00:34:02.07 hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." 00:34:02.10\00:34:04.87 Now, back when Paul wrote that, not everybody could read but 00:34:04.91\00:34:08.34 some could, and everyone could hear, with the few exceptions of 00:34:08.38\00:34:12.15 people that were deaf, and so it's saying that, you know, as 00:34:12.18\00:34:15.68 we read and/or hear the Word of God, there's power in His Word. 00:34:15.72\00:34:20.26 If a person's not able to read, maybe they can hear it read. 00:34:20.29\00:34:25.43 Fortunately, today, there's a lot of different apps where the 00:34:25.46\00:34:27.96 Bible can read to you or you can find, you know, 00:34:27.96\00:34:31.37 apps and things that'll read the Bible. 00:34:31.40\00:34:33.30 But the Bible keeps us from sin, the Bible shows us the character 00:34:33.34\00:34:37.57 of Christ, Jesus is revealed in the Word, and so it's, you know, 00:34:37.61\00:34:42.51 I can't understate the importance of the Word of God 00:34:42.54\00:34:45.48 to both bring us conviction and comfort with 00:34:45.51\00:34:47.38 the Holy Spirit speaking through it. 00:34:47.42\00:34:50.05 So am I answering what you're asking? 00:34:50.09\00:34:53.02 Susie: Should I continue to read my Bible then? 00:34:53.05\00:34:55.62 Doug: Absolutely, yeah. 00:34:55.66\00:34:58.39 Susie: What I was conscious about, you know, my 00:34:58.43\00:35:02.20 church leader, she told me about that. 00:35:02.23\00:35:05.60 Doug: What did the leader tell you, not to read your Bible? 00:35:05.63\00:35:08.27 Susie: Yeah, because he cannot save 00:35:08.30\00:35:09.60 me--it couldn't save me. 00:35:09.64\00:35:11.27 My Bible cannot save me. 00:35:11.31\00:35:12.94 That's what she told me. 00:35:12.97\00:35:14.28 Doug: Well, you know, if you've got a church 00:35:14.31\00:35:15.61 leader telling you not to read your Bible, 00:35:15.64\00:35:17.11 I'd be looking for another church. 00:35:17.15\00:35:19.61 The--yeah. 00:35:19.65\00:35:21.75 Christ is revealed through the Word. 00:35:21.78\00:35:24.15 The Bible's the foundation for what we believe. 00:35:24.19\00:35:26.92 God speaks to us through His Word. 00:35:26.96\00:35:28.76 We are saved because of what we read in 00:35:28.79\00:35:30.16 the Word and faith in it. 00:35:30.19\00:35:31.83 So in many ways it's the Word that saves us and reading the 00:35:31.86\00:35:36.16 Bible, like I said, can't be saved without faith, 00:35:36.20\00:35:38.93 and faith comes by hearing the Word. 00:35:38.97\00:35:40.80 Jean: And when Jesus was tempted and He's 00:35:40.84\00:35:42.20 our example, He quoted from scripture. 00:35:42.24\00:35:44.27 He said, "It is written, it is written." 00:35:44.31\00:35:45.84 So if He read the Word, Revelation, the last book of the 00:35:45.87\00:35:48.18 Bible, says, "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the 00:35:48.21\00:35:51.71 words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written 00:35:51.75\00:35:54.88 therein," so for a Christian, one who is able to read the 00:35:54.92\00:35:57.85 Word, they need to read the Word. 00:35:57.89\00:36:00.19 Matter of fact, when the Word is read, 00:36:00.22\00:36:02.32 there usually follows a revival. 00:36:02.36\00:36:04.29 For example, the Protestant Reformation when 00:36:04.33\00:36:05.83 they were able to translate the Bible into the language 00:36:05.86\00:36:08.13 of the common people, there was a revival that took place. 00:36:08.16\00:36:11.27 So there's power in the reading of the Word. 00:36:11.30\00:36:12.60 Doug: Absolutely. 00:36:12.63\00:36:13.94 We're encouraging all of our friends and members of our 00:36:13.97\00:36:16.47 church to get into a Bible-reading program. 00:36:16.50\00:36:19.01 Read through the Bible in a year, 00:36:19.04\00:36:20.44 and it just strengthens your faith. 00:36:20.48\00:36:22.14 Jean: All right, thank you, Susie. 00:36:22.18\00:36:23.48 We've got Robert listening in Washington. 00:36:23.51\00:36:25.78 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:36:25.81\00:36:27.35 Robert: Hi there. 00:36:27.38\00:36:28.68 Doug: Hi. Robert: Hello. 00:36:28.72\00:36:30.02 I'm just wanting to know, I guess, had 00:36:30.05\00:36:34.46 the people note about Psalms 1:1 to 3. 00:36:34.49\00:36:40.46 I just was wanting to know if you could explain that a little 00:36:40.50\00:36:43.33 bit more like about the counsel of the ungodly, the sitting in 00:36:43.37\00:36:49.70 the--or standing in the path of sinners, and the other one-- 00:36:49.74\00:36:56.95 Jean: The seat of the scornful. 00:36:56.98\00:36:58.28 Robert: I was wanting to know if you 00:36:58.31\00:36:59.61 could explain that a little bit more. 00:36:59.65\00:37:01.02 Doug: Sure, yeah, we'll take a--it's a great verse. 00:37:01.05\00:37:02.62 We'll do our best to quickly expound it. 00:37:02.65\00:37:05.15 And this is from Psalms, the first Psalm, written by David, 00:37:05.19\00:37:08.36 verse 1 to 3, "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel 00:37:08.39\00:37:12.76 of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in 00:37:12.79\00:37:17.13 the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the 00:37:17.17\00:37:20.40 Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. 00:37:20.44\00:37:24.01 He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that 00:37:24.04\00:37:27.31 brings forth its fruit in season, whose leaf will not 00:37:27.34\00:37:30.41 wither; and whatever he doeth shall prosper." 00:37:30.45\00:37:33.52 So it's talking about someone that they don't-- 00:37:33.55\00:37:35.98 first, you notice, they're walking. 00:37:36.02\00:37:37.62 And then they're standing. 00:37:37.65\00:37:39.02 It's like they're walking by, and then they're standing 00:37:39.05\00:37:40.69 listening, and then ultimately, they're sitting. 00:37:40.72\00:37:42.62 And when you're walking by and you see the ungodly, keep 00:37:42.66\00:37:46.13 walking 'cause if you stand and listen, pretty 00:37:46.16\00:37:48.30 soon you're sitting with the scornful. 00:37:48.33\00:37:50.13 It's like a progression. 00:37:50.17\00:37:51.87 And it says that we should flee temptation, walk away from it, 00:37:51.90\00:37:56.74 or actually, run from it like Joseph ran from Potiphar's wife. 00:37:56.77\00:38:00.84 But this person, they will not walk, they will not stand, they 00:38:00.88\00:38:04.48 will not sit, with the scorners, the sinners, the ungodly. 00:38:04.51\00:38:08.75 But their delight is the opposite of the ungodly, 00:38:08.78\00:38:11.62 the law of the Lord, the truth, the Word of God. 00:38:11.65\00:38:14.86 And they meditate on it, day and night. 00:38:14.89\00:38:17.09 Moses said surround ourselves with the Word of God. 00:38:17.13\00:38:19.83 And then, pictures him as a tree planted in the 00:38:19.86\00:38:22.63 wilderness, and I used to live in a desert. 00:38:22.66\00:38:25.67 It was easy to find the oasis in the desert 00:38:25.70\00:38:28.54 'cause it's the only green spot. 00:38:28.57\00:38:30.67 If that tree--it can be in a desert, but if it's got a stream 00:38:30.71\00:38:33.54 of water by it, it will flourish. 00:38:33.58\00:38:36.11 It's got a continual flow of nourishment. 00:38:36.14\00:38:38.41 And so, God promises that for those that 00:38:38.45\00:38:41.28 delight in His law and turn from sin. 00:38:41.32\00:38:44.85 Jean: You know, we have a book. 00:38:44.89\00:38:46.19 I was just thinking about it for the previous 00:38:46.22\00:38:47.69 caller, but also it ties in with this one. 00:38:47.72\00:38:49.56 It's called, "The Ultimate Resource," 00:38:49.59\00:38:50.89 and it's about the Bible. 00:38:50.93\00:38:52.43 Of course, you find the law in the Bible, so all the blessings 00:38:52.46\00:38:56.26 in studying the Word of God, and we'll send this 00:38:56.30\00:38:58.03 for free to anyone, just call and ask. 00:38:58.07\00:38:59.90 It's called "The Ultimate Resource." 00:38:59.93\00:39:01.77 It's one of our books, and it's all about the Bible. 00:39:01.80\00:39:04.24 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:39:04.27\00:39:08.24 You can ask for that book or dial #250 on your smartphone and 00:39:08.28\00:39:12.35 say "Bible Answers Live," and ask for "The Ultimate Resource." 00:39:12.38\00:39:16.58 We've got--who do we have next? Let's see. 00:39:16.62\00:39:18.89 We've got Jean in Connecticut. There we go. 00:39:18.92\00:39:23.83 Jean, welcome to the program. 00:39:23.86\00:39:25.36 Jean: Hi, Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross, thank 00:39:25.39\00:39:28.40 you very much for--and take my call. 00:39:28.43\00:39:31.70 Doug: Yeah, your question? 00:39:31.73\00:39:33.40 Jean: Yes, sorry. 00:39:33.44\00:39:35.40 I'm asking about Revelation 11, specifically verse 2. 00:39:35.44\00:39:40.74 I'm just wondering what the holy city in--the verse 00:39:40.78\00:39:47.35 is referring to, and what does it mean when the 00:39:47.38\00:39:50.72 outer temple is being given to the Gentiles? 00:39:50.75\00:39:55.72 Doug: Yeah, well, I'll tell you a little bit 00:39:55.76\00:39:57.33 and then Pastor Ross will pick it up. 00:39:57.36\00:40:00.63 Probably 50% of Revelation is drawing from the prophets in the 00:40:00.66\00:40:07.00 Old Testament, namely Zechariah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel. 00:40:07.04\00:40:12.04 There's a passage in the end of Ezekiel where 00:40:12.07\00:40:14.91 Ezekiel is told to measure a temple. 00:40:14.94\00:40:18.41 And a lot of people wonder, "What is this temple? 00:40:18.45\00:40:20.82 And it was never built and why was this 00:40:20.85\00:40:22.32 temple that he measures never built?" 00:40:22.35\00:40:24.39 Well, you get to the New Testament, Jesus said, "Destroy 00:40:24.42\00:40:27.76 this temple made with hands and I will make one without hands," 00:40:27.79\00:40:30.79 and He spoke of His body, the church. 00:40:30.83\00:40:33.06 And so the measuring of the temple is not 00:40:33.09\00:40:35.86 talking about measuring bricks up in heaven. 00:40:35.90\00:40:38.73 It's talking about an evaluation or judgment of God's people. 00:40:38.77\00:40:42.27 Jean: Yeah, absolutely. 00:40:42.30\00:40:43.61 And if you look at it says, "Measure 00:40:43.64\00:40:45.57 the temple but leave out the court." 00:40:45.61\00:40:47.64 There were three parts of the temple. 00:40:47.68\00:40:49.08 You had the courtyard and then you had the 00:40:49.11\00:40:50.91 holy and you had the most holy place. 00:40:50.95\00:40:52.55 The courtyard represents the earth, 00:40:52.58\00:40:54.78 that's where the lamb was sacrificed. 00:40:54.82\00:40:56.38 Jesus came to the earth, He died for our sins, He's 00:40:56.42\00:40:58.95 the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. 00:40:58.99\00:41:00.99 But then Christ arose and He ascended to heaven, 00:41:01.02\00:41:03.32 there to minister as our priest, our high priest. 00:41:03.36\00:41:06.66 Well, that ministry of the priest was in the holy and the 00:41:06.70\00:41:09.13 most holy place, after the sacrifice had been made. 00:41:09.16\00:41:12.10 So when it says, "Leave out the court," it's referring 00:41:12.13\00:41:14.37 to the earth, and it says the Gentiles would 00:41:14.40\00:41:16.94 tread it underfoot for 42 months. 00:41:16.97\00:41:19.54 Well, that is an interesting time period there. 00:41:19.57\00:41:21.21 That's 1,260 days. 00:41:21.24\00:41:24.21 There were 30 days in a Hebrew month and 00:41:24.25\00:41:26.15 you do the math, 42 times 30, 1,260. 00:41:26.18\00:41:29.72 So you've got a time period of 1,260 years, one prophetic day 00:41:29.75\00:41:33.39 equals one literal year, and that time period actually met 00:41:33.42\00:41:36.52 its fulfillment during the Dark Ages where the truths of 00:41:36.56\00:41:39.73 Christ's high priestly ministry was being substituted by manmade 00:41:39.76\00:41:43.16 traditions, by the established church, but at the end of that 00:41:43.20\00:41:46.97 time period, 1798, and then leading into 1800s, you had the 00:41:47.00\00:41:51.17 Reformation, you had the Word of God being translated, 00:41:51.21\00:41:54.04 and that really culminated in the study of the Word 00:41:54.08\00:41:56.31 of God and the truths of Christ's high priestly ministry. 00:41:56.34\00:41:59.21 So that, that's also a reference to that 1,260 or 00:41:59.25\00:42:02.88 42 months time period that you read about in that verse. 00:42:02.92\00:42:05.85 Doug: Yeah. 00:42:05.89\00:42:07.19 Well, I think our lesson that talks about the Antichrist 00:42:07.22\00:42:08.99 talks about that time period, and maybe 00:42:09.02\00:42:14.13 our brother would be interested in that. 00:42:14.20\00:42:15.96 Jean: Absolutely, just call and ask. 00:42:16.00\00:42:17.43 It's called, "Who Is the Antichrist?" 00:42:17.47\00:42:18.77 That's the name of the lesson. 00:42:18.80\00:42:20.10 The number is 800-835-6747, and you can 00:42:20.14\00:42:23.64 ask for it, and we'll send it to you. 00:42:23.67\00:42:25.07 Dial #250 on your smartphone, and say "Bible Answers Live," 00:42:25.11\00:42:30.38 ask for that study guide called, "Who is the Antichrist?" 00:42:30.41\00:42:33.58 All right, thank you. 00:42:33.62\00:42:34.92 And next caller that we have is T.C. in Arizona. 00:42:34.95\00:42:38.42 T.C., welcome to the program. 00:42:38.45\00:42:41.09 T.C.: Thank you, gentlemen. 00:42:41.12\00:42:42.42 I appreciate it, Pastor Doug and Pastor Jean. 00:42:42.46\00:42:45.93 My question is we celebrate Jesus's birthday every year in 00:42:45.96\00:42:50.37 wintertime, but the Bible plainly states that He was born 00:42:50.40\00:42:54.27 during the first census which would be in the fall. 00:42:54.30\00:42:58.41 Why do we celebrate, even as Christians, the birth of Christ 00:42:58.44\00:43:03.48 in the winter when He was born in the fall? 00:43:03.51\00:43:06.85 Doug: Well, you're absolutely correct. 00:43:06.88\00:43:08.72 There are three reasons in the Bible and 00:43:08.75\00:43:13.15 one you just stated from history. 00:43:13.19\00:43:14.92 Now, of course, we know that Mary and Joseph came 00:43:14.96\00:43:17.19 down during the census of Augustus Caesar. 00:43:17.23\00:43:20.90 Well, the date for the census is not in the Bible but the history 00:43:20.93\00:43:23.83 does have that date and they did not issue the census in the 00:43:23.87\00:43:27.57 middle of winter when people would be 00:43:27.60\00:43:28.97 traveling during the worst time of the year. 00:43:29.00\00:43:31.31 It says shepherds, of course, were in their fields. 00:43:31.34\00:43:35.01 They wouldn't be in the fields in the coldest time in Jerusalem 00:43:35.04\00:43:38.08 or Bethlehem, and then it also tells us that 00:43:38.11\00:43:43.08 Jesus began His ministry when He was 30. 00:43:43.12\00:43:46.09 He ministered three and a half years, and He died in 00:43:46.12\00:43:48.26 the Passover, so He dies in spring. 00:43:48.29\00:43:51.03 You go back 33 and 1/2 years, that means He's born in the 00:43:51.06\00:43:54.00 fall, so it's really clear that Christ was born, we 00:43:54.00\00:43:56.90 don't know the date, but sometime in the fall. 00:43:56.93\00:43:59.30 So here's the question: if a Christian knows that He's born 00:43:59.33\00:44:03.77 in the fall, we don't know exact date, most of the world is 00:44:03.81\00:44:06.88 recognizing the birth of Christ in December and, of course, you 00:44:06.91\00:44:12.31 know, if you go to southern hemisphere, December's hot. 00:44:12.35\00:44:14.78 It depends on where you are. 00:44:14.82\00:44:16.12 Some places, it's not a white Christmas. 00:44:16.15\00:44:18.25 So the real question is are you supporting paganism by doing it 00:44:18.29\00:44:25.83 in a date that has some pagan trappings or can you use it as a 00:44:25.86\00:44:31.00 witnessing opportunity 'cause the world is thinking 00:44:31.03\00:44:33.13 about the birth of Christ and exploit it for Christ to 00:44:33.17\00:44:36.77 try and make something good of it? 00:44:36.81\00:44:38.24 I'd say that's one of those issues that a person 00:44:38.27\00:44:40.14 needs to just decide and feel comfortable about it. 00:44:40.18\00:44:44.11 If they're grieved that it's wrong, don't do it. 00:44:44.15\00:44:47.08 Jean: You know, I think one of the things too about the 25th 00:44:47.12\00:44:49.32 of December, I think it's, you know, we know Christ was not 00:44:49.35\00:44:52.15 born on the 25th of December, and I don't think it's right to 00:44:52.19\00:44:55.19 treat that as a holy day or a sacred day. 00:44:55.22\00:44:58.16 But around that time of the year when people are 00:44:58.19\00:44:59.96 thinking about the birth of Christ, you can know-- 00:45:00.06\00:45:02.96 probably good to take advantage of that. 00:45:03.00\00:45:05.03 And we do a concert around that time of the year 00:45:05.07\00:45:08.44 where we sing the Christmas carols and we have-- 00:45:08.47\00:45:10.41 Doug: Invite the neighbors and-- 00:45:10.44\00:45:11.74 Jean: Yeah, invite friends to come. 00:45:11.77\00:45:13.07 People are open to it at that time of the year. 00:45:13.11\00:45:14.84 Great opportunity for sharing and witnessing and, of course, 00:45:14.88\00:45:17.65 it is a very significant event that Jesus was born, 00:45:17.68\00:45:20.68 so there's nothing wrong in singing about it. 00:45:20.72\00:45:23.39 But that doesn't mean that there's something 00:45:23.42\00:45:24.99 holy about the 25th of December. 00:45:25.02\00:45:26.55 Doug: Always feels a little funny to preach 00:45:26.59\00:45:28.02 about the birth of Jesus in July. 00:45:28.06\00:45:31.03 Jean: Yeah, it would feel a little odd, wouldn't it? 00:45:31.06\00:45:32.76 Doug: It'd just feel like it's out of sync, somehow. 00:45:32.79\00:45:35.70 But nothing wrong with that, technically. 00:45:35.73\00:45:37.83 I don't know if that helps. 00:45:37.87\00:45:39.17 We do have a book called "Baptized Paganism," 00:45:39.20\00:45:41.94 that talks about some of the pagan trappings of 00:45:41.97\00:45:43.71 these things and you might enjoy that, T.C. 00:45:43.74\00:45:46.17 Jean: The number is 800-835-6747, 00:45:46.21\00:45:49.04 and you can ask for the book. 00:45:49.08\00:45:50.38 It's called, "Baptized Paganism." 00:45:50.41\00:45:52.38 Dial #250 on your smartphone, say 00:45:52.41\00:45:55.08 "Bible Answers Live," and ask for that. 00:45:55.12\00:45:57.62 And Anastacia is in Canada. 00:45:57.65\00:46:00.26 Welcome to the program, Anastacia. 00:46:00.29\00:46:02.36 Anastacia: Hi, my question is about when Elijah 00:46:02.39\00:46:04.83 was on Mount Horeb and he fled from Jezebel. 00:46:04.86\00:46:08.40 She was threatening to kill him. 00:46:08.43\00:46:09.73 Okay, so my question is, is that who was in the 00:46:09.76\00:46:15.24 earthquake, the fire, and the wind, if it wasn't the Lord? 00:46:15.27\00:46:18.74 And I know there's a deeper meaning to that story, and I 00:46:18.77\00:46:20.98 just don't know what it is, so can you explain it to me? 00:46:21.01\00:46:23.85 Doug: Yeah, well, just for our friends listening, 00:46:23.88\00:46:25.65 let me give you the background so we 00:46:25.68\00:46:27.12 understand the question Anastacia's asking. 00:46:27.15\00:46:30.49 Elijah gets frightened when Jezebel threatens 00:46:30.52\00:46:32.92 his life after this Mount Carmel experience. 00:46:32.95\00:46:35.89 He ends up going through the wilderness all the 00:46:35.92\00:46:37.69 way back to Mount Sinai where Moses had gone. 00:46:37.73\00:46:42.43 And by the way, it's interesting that Moses spent 40 days, 40 00:46:42.46\00:46:46.97 nights up on Mount Sinai, Elijah spends 40 days 00:46:47.00\00:46:49.64 and 40 nights going to Mount Sinai, and Jesus 00:46:49.67\00:46:51.94 spends 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness. 00:46:51.97\00:46:55.04 And up on the mountain, the Lord speaks to him 00:46:55.08\00:46:57.85 and, while he's there, there's an earthquake. 00:46:57.88\00:47:00.12 It says, "The Lord was not in the earthquake." 00:47:00.15\00:47:02.12 And there's a fire, and "the Lord was not in the fire." 00:47:02.15\00:47:03.79 And there's a great wind. 00:47:03.82\00:47:05.12 Then he says, "The Lord is not in the wind." 00:47:05.15\00:47:06.49 But then there's a still small voice, and God is speaking to 00:47:06.52\00:47:09.89 him through the still small voice and 00:47:09.92\00:47:11.56 saying, "Elijah, what are you doing here?" 00:47:11.59\00:47:13.36 And I think he's saying there that sometimes, you know, we 00:47:13.40\00:47:17.83 look for God to speak through dramatic events, and the Spirit 00:47:17.87\00:47:22.84 typically speaks to us in a still small voice. 00:47:22.87\00:47:25.84 Elijah had just come from a fire coming down from heaven and the 00:47:25.87\00:47:29.98 slaughter of the prophets of Baal and a great rainstorm after 00:47:30.01\00:47:33.18 a drought and all these, and he's saying, "You know, it's the 00:47:33.21\00:47:36.15 Holy Spirit that changes people's hearts. 00:47:36.18\00:47:38.62 It's not going to be the fire and rain." 00:47:38.65\00:47:41.26 Jean: And you know, I think absolutely, Pastor. 00:47:41.29\00:47:42.76 Just another thought on that, he was somewhat 00:47:42.79\00:47:44.69 discouraged 'cause he thought he was the only one. 00:47:44.73\00:47:46.59 I mean, he'd already had the Mount Carmel experience and then 00:47:46.63\00:47:48.93 Jezebel is threatening his life and he was wondering, 00:47:48.96\00:47:51.47 "Man, am I the only one that still worships the Lord?" 00:47:51.50\00:47:54.77 And God said, "No, I've got 7,000 00:47:54.80\00:47:56.71 that haven't bowed the knee to Baal." 00:47:56.74\00:47:58.21 And we might not always see God working, but the Spirit of God 00:47:58.24\00:48:02.48 is working, and He's working in a powerful way. 00:48:02.51\00:48:04.91 But maybe not with open display. Sometimes there is. 00:48:04.95\00:48:08.88 I mean, fire is also a symbol of the Holy Spirit, the wind is 00:48:08.92\00:48:11.05 also a symbol of the Holy Spirit, but it's through that 00:48:11.09\00:48:13.56 still small voice, through the convicting voice 00:48:13.59\00:48:16.12 of the Spirit to the conscience that lives are changed. 00:48:16.16\00:48:18.93 Doug: Yeah, and he didn't need to be afraid of an 00:48:18.96\00:48:21.70 earthquake or a fire or a mighty wind if God was with him, 00:48:21.73\00:48:25.37 and he didn't need to be afraid of Jezebel. 00:48:25.40\00:48:27.14 Jean: That's right. 00:48:27.17\00:48:28.47 Doug: Yeah, so that was part of the message. 00:48:28.50\00:48:29.87 Good question. Appreciate that, Anastacia. 00:48:29.90\00:48:32.34 All right, who's next, Pastor Ross? 00:48:32.37\00:48:33.84 Jean: We've got Marlon in Tennessee. 00:48:33.88\00:48:35.18 Marlon, welcome to the program. 00:48:35.21\00:48:38.38 Marlon: Oh, hi, Pastors. Doug: Hi. 00:48:38.41\00:48:41.02 Marlon: Pastor Jean Ross and Pastor Doug 00:48:41.05\00:48:43.12 Batchelor, thanks for taking my question. 00:48:43.15\00:48:45.35 So my question, I just googled, like, what does the Bible think 00:48:45.39\00:48:51.19 about or behaving like or living like a sloth? 00:48:51.23\00:48:55.70 Doug: Yeah, well, the scriptures actually have quite a 00:48:55.73\00:48:59.80 bit to say about the importance of work. 00:48:59.83\00:49:03.07 You know, we talk from time to time on the program about the 00:49:03.10\00:49:05.51 Sabbath and folks think about the day of rest, but part of 00:49:05.54\00:49:08.91 that commandment says, "Six days thou shalt work." 00:49:08.94\00:49:11.78 They always think about the "Thou shall not 00:49:11.81\00:49:13.68 work on the seventh day," but they forget, 00:49:13.72\00:49:15.18 "Thou shalt work on the six days." 00:49:15.22\00:49:17.15 So, God wants us to be working, and you can read in Proverbs 00:49:17.19\00:49:23.49 18:9: "He who is slothful in his work is a brother 00:49:23.53\00:49:27.50 to him who is a great destroyer." 00:49:27.50\00:49:29.83 And so, the Bible has a great deal to say about industry and 00:49:29.86\00:49:36.04 being a worker and not to be lazy or slothful. 00:49:36.07\00:49:40.54 The King James uses the word slothful, because, of course, 00:49:40.58\00:49:42.34 a sloth is a very slow-moving creature, and so it 00:49:42.38\00:49:45.68 became sort of a metaphor for someone who's lazy. 00:49:45.71\00:49:48.95 Jean: And here's a verse, 00:49:48.98\00:49:50.29 2 Thessalonians chapter 3, verse 10. 00:49:50.32\00:49:52.39 And it says, "For if anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." 00:49:52.42\00:49:55.76 Doug: Yeah. 00:49:55.79\00:49:57.09 Jean: So, yes, it's good to work, right? 00:49:57.13\00:49:58.69 It's good to provide for your needs and the needs of 00:49:58.73\00:50:00.73 your family, so it's commendable in scripture. 00:50:00.76\00:50:04.23 All right, we've got Susan listening in South Carolina. 00:50:04.27\00:50:06.50 Susan, welcome to the program. 00:50:06.53\00:50:09.57 Susan: Thanks. Hi, Pastor Doug and Pastor Jean. 00:50:09.60\00:50:11.57 I hope you're doing okay tonight? 00:50:11.61\00:50:13.54 Doug: Thanks for calling. 00:50:13.58\00:50:14.88 Susan: My question is--I had a customer 00:50:14.91\00:50:17.11 ask me this question the other day. 00:50:17.15\00:50:18.95 Why did Adam wait until after the fall to name Eve, "Eve"? 00:50:18.98\00:50:23.85 He called her Woman in the beginning, 00:50:23.89\00:50:26.19 and then after the Fall he called her Eve. 00:50:26.22\00:50:28.92 Doug: Well, I think he actually named her before the Fall. 00:50:28.96\00:50:31.96 It's not recorded until after there, but Adam's 00:50:31.99\00:50:36.20 the one who named all the creatures. 00:50:36.23\00:50:37.53 God gives Eve to Adam, so He takes her from his rib or makes 00:50:37.57\00:50:43.00 her from the rib, on the sixth--the day of creation, and 00:50:43.04\00:50:47.21 I'm assuming that he gave her her name before the Fall. 00:50:47.24\00:50:52.58 We don't know, the Fall may have happened a month after Creation. 00:50:52.61\00:50:55.25 He probably didn't wait a month before 00:50:55.28\00:50:56.58 he said, "What's your name, by the way?" 00:50:56.62\00:50:58.32 You know, "You're my wife, what's your name?" 00:50:58.35\00:51:00.56 So I think it's just stating it as after-fact, that, oh yeah, by 00:51:00.59\00:51:04.23 the way, the name that he gave to the woman was Eve. 00:51:04.26\00:51:07.50 But the Bible often does that. 00:51:07.50\00:51:09.66 It gives the details later, after the headlines. 00:51:09.70\00:51:13.47 So, any thoughts on that? 00:51:13.50\00:51:15.77 Jean: Yeah, it's, you know, where Adam I think where it 00:51:15.80\00:51:18.44 talks about a woman, of course, when Eve 00:51:18.47\00:51:20.01 came to Adam, he said, "This is now woman." 00:51:20.04\00:51:22.41 But then when God came, looking for Adam and Eve, 00:51:22.44\00:51:24.45 and God says, you know, "Why are you hiding? 00:51:24.48\00:51:28.18 Did you eat of the tree I told you not to eat?" 00:51:28.22\00:51:29.98 And then he says, "Well, the woman that You gave me." 00:51:30.02\00:51:33.05 Doesn't use her name "Eve." He says, "The woman." 00:51:33.09\00:51:35.46 And then, of course, afterwards, you discover, yeah, 00:51:35.49\00:51:37.43 the reason her name is Eve is because 00:51:37.46\00:51:39.56 she's the mother of everyone else, right? 00:51:39.59\00:51:42.03 She gave birth to the human race from there on. 00:51:42.06\00:51:44.70 Doug: And by the way, he calls her Eve 00:51:44.73\00:51:46.37 before she's had her first child. 00:51:46.40\00:51:48.20 Jean: Right. 00:51:48.24\00:51:49.54 Doug: So, I think she had that name, sixth day. 00:51:49.57\00:51:51.97 Jean: Before, yeah. 00:51:52.01\00:51:53.31 All right, great. Doug: Good question. 00:51:53.34\00:51:54.78 That's a first-time question, I think. 00:51:54.81\00:51:56.64 Jean: Yeah, we've got Terry listening in South Carolina. 00:51:56.68\00:51:58.91 Terry, welcome to the program. 00:51:58.95\00:52:00.52 Terry: Hey, Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross, how you all doing? 00:52:00.55\00:52:02.42 Doug: Good. 00:52:02.45\00:52:03.75 Terry: Thanks for taking my call. 00:52:03.79\00:52:05.09 All right, so my question is when do you become 00:52:05.12\00:52:08.59 specifically responsible for a prophet's message? 00:52:08.62\00:52:13.16 For example, you know, John taught baptism but you couldn't 00:52:13.19\00:52:16.36 necessarily find that in the Old Testament. 00:52:16.40\00:52:18.37 So what if I said, "You know what? 00:52:18.40\00:52:19.80 I'm just going to keep taking my lamb to the temple"? 00:52:19.83\00:52:22.67 And then you had the instance where he didn't perform any 00:52:22.70\00:52:27.18 miracles and the other thing was he told his disciples, "Hey, 00:52:27.21\00:52:32.25 this is the Lamb of God that'll take away the sin of the world," 00:52:32.28\00:52:34.98 but then a couple of weeks later he was, like, "Hey, can 00:52:35.02\00:52:36.72 y'all go and check and make sure that's the right guy?" 00:52:36.75\00:52:39.39 So let's say I was kind of on the fence and I was like, 00:52:39.42\00:52:43.02 "You know, I like John but I'm just not sure." 00:52:43.06\00:52:45.93 So what are y'all thoughts on a situation like that, 00:52:45.96\00:52:48.96 as opposed to when we can look and read everything 00:52:49.00\00:52:51.80 and see everything they did but what if we was in 00:52:51.83\00:52:53.97 real time and you had to make a decision? 00:52:54.00\00:52:57.31 Doug: Yeah, I was going to say it still happens even in our 00:52:57.34\00:52:59.07 time where truths are presented that we listen to and we may be 00:52:59.11\00:53:03.75 convicted and at what point are you guilty for 00:53:03.78\00:53:07.38 not responding when you hear some new truth? 00:53:07.42\00:53:10.15 Pastor Ross and I do evangelism. 00:53:10.19\00:53:11.62 As we're preaching, we, you know, preach things that people 00:53:11.65\00:53:14.19 thought, "Wow, I've never thought about that before." 00:53:14.22\00:53:16.42 We can't be their conscience but the way I understand it is once 00:53:16.46\00:53:19.56 a person understands a truth and the Holy Spirit 00:53:19.59\00:53:24.70 convicts them that it is truth, then they 00:53:24.73\00:53:27.07 should not resist the voice of the Spirit. 00:53:27.10\00:53:29.10 I'm sure when John was preaching, the power 00:53:29.14\00:53:32.14 of the Spirit was present in his preaching. 00:53:32.17\00:53:34.88 I mean, the crowds all swarmed out, and Jesus even said 00:53:34.91\00:53:37.78 to the scribes and Pharisees, you know, "The message 00:53:37.81\00:53:40.25 from John, did it come from God or from men?" 00:53:40.28\00:53:42.78 And He'll say they didn't accept 00:53:42.82\00:53:44.72 his preaching, but the people did. 00:53:44.75\00:53:46.69 They knew he was a prophet of God. 00:53:46.72\00:53:48.66 So I think they had evidence. 00:53:48.69\00:53:51.33 Jean: Okay, maybe time for one more. 00:53:51.36\00:53:53.53 Mia, we've got about a minute. 00:53:53.56\00:53:56.33 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:53:56.36\00:53:57.87 You need to make it quick. 00:53:57.90\00:54:00.34 Mia: All right, my question is can we observe the Sabbath 00:54:00.37\00:54:04.34 day and also go to church on Sunday? 00:54:04.37\00:54:08.01 Doug: All right, that's a good-- 00:54:08.04\00:54:09.34 we'll give you a quick answer to that. 00:54:09.38\00:54:11.91 There's nothing wrong with going to church seven days a week. 00:54:11.95\00:54:15.15 You know, our church sometimes has 00:54:15.18\00:54:16.48 a prayer meeting on Wednesday. 00:54:16.52\00:54:18.32 So, as far as going to church or gathering together with 00:54:18.35\00:54:21.39 believers, it should be done many times. 00:54:21.42\00:54:23.76 It says they broke bread from house to house daily. 00:54:23.79\00:54:26.76 But as far as what day is the Sabbath, and you wouldn't want 00:54:26.80\00:54:29.13 to be treating another day like it's the Sabbath, 00:54:29.16\00:54:32.17 or recognizing it that way, there's no question. 00:54:32.20\00:54:35.20 I've been to church on Sunday to worship with people or to go to 00:54:35.24\00:54:38.44 a Bible study but everyone knows what I believe about the 00:54:38.47\00:54:40.98 Sabbath, it's the seventh day, not the first. 00:54:41.01\00:54:43.91 Hey, listening friends, we're about out of time 00:54:43.95\00:54:46.28 for our almost conclusion of the program. 00:54:46.31\00:54:50.12 We sign off and say goodbye to our 00:54:50.15\00:54:51.45 friends listening on satellite first. 00:54:51.49\00:54:53.82 They're on a different time clock than 00:54:53.86\00:54:55.26 the other land-based stations. 00:54:55.29\00:54:56.89 The rest of you, don't go anywhere. 00:54:56.93\00:54:58.99 Pastor Ross and I are going to come back 00:54:59.03\00:55:01.20 and do some rapid-fire Bible answers. 00:55:01.23\00:55:03.87 For the others on satellite, God bless till next week. 00:55:03.90\00:55:06.90 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:09.70\00:55:12.14 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:12.17\00:55:15.74 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:15.78\00:55:20.02 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:20.05\00:55:24.29 Jean: Hello, friends, and welcome back to 00:55:26.29\00:55:27.59 "Bible Answers Live," those of you who are able 00:55:27.62\00:55:29.52 to stay by for the email questions. 00:55:29.56\00:55:31.93 If you have an email question you want to send us, 00:55:31.96\00:55:34.10 it's just simple BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:34.13\00:55:38.87 Pastor Doug, first question, "My son promised that he would never 00:55:38.90\00:55:41.87 smoke marijuana again, but he broke his promise. 00:55:41.90\00:55:45.01 If my son confesses, will he be forgiven? 00:55:45.04\00:55:48.08 Or has my son's probation closed?" 00:55:48.11\00:55:50.85 Doug: Yeah, so I think her son made a 00:55:50.88\00:55:52.35 promise to God and she--and he broke it. 00:55:52.38\00:55:54.58 Does that mean that we're lost? 00:55:54.62\00:55:57.69 Well, let's hope not, because a lot of us have made 00:55:57.72\00:56:00.49 the best of intentions in a promise to God. 00:56:00.52\00:56:02.92 Every time a person's baptized, they're 00:56:02.96\00:56:04.49 making sort of a covenant. 00:56:04.53\00:56:06.66 And many people have broken some of their baptismal vows. 00:56:06.70\00:56:10.63 Does that mean they've committed the unpardonable sin? 00:56:10.67\00:56:13.34 God is longsuffering. 00:56:13.37\00:56:14.80 If you want evidence for that, look at what He did with Israel. 00:56:14.84\00:56:18.51 Right after He makes the first covenant, 00:56:18.54\00:56:20.31 they break the covenant. 00:56:20.34\00:56:21.81 He could have destroyed them. Moses prayed for them. 00:56:21.84\00:56:24.05 God says, "Okay, I'm going to give you another chance." 00:56:24.08\00:56:25.71 Well, that acts out in people's lives many times. 00:56:25.75\00:56:29.18 He was so patient with the children of Israel, they 00:56:29.22\00:56:31.19 continued to test God and He forgave them. 00:56:31.22\00:56:33.66 Jean: We've got an example in Mary Magdalene as well. 00:56:33.69\00:56:35.99 It says cast out seven devils. 00:56:36.02\00:56:37.56 Doug: That's right. 00:56:37.59\00:56:38.89 Jean: Right, question number two. 00:56:38.93\00:56:40.23 Here we have Carla, who's asking, "What should 00:56:40.26\00:56:42.63 I do if I'm covered with tattoos and 00:56:42.66\00:56:44.53 it's impossible to get them removed?" 00:56:44.57\00:56:47.67 Doug: Well, don't lose any sleep over it. 00:56:47.70\00:56:51.21 You know, the Bible's pretty clear. 00:56:51.24\00:56:53.38 It says, "You shall not make cuttings 00:56:53.41\00:56:55.84 in your flesh or tattoo your body. 00:56:55.88\00:56:57.55 I am the Lord," in the book of Leviticus. 00:56:57.58\00:57:00.75 But a lot of people out there, especially in our day and age, 00:57:00.78\00:57:03.12 they, you know, they're tattooed high and low, deep and wide. 00:57:03.15\00:57:07.22 And then they get convicted and they 00:57:07.26\00:57:09.16 read the Bible, they come to the Lord. 00:57:09.19\00:57:10.99 They can spend a lot of time and money and it can 00:57:11.03\00:57:12.99 be very painful to remove all your tattoos. 00:57:13.03\00:57:15.46 I just say that, you know, you may want to remove some, just, 00:57:15.50\00:57:19.53 you know, use your good sense and do what you think the Lord 00:57:19.57\00:57:25.01 wants you to do, but I don't think that God's 00:57:25.04\00:57:26.88 going to keep you out of heaven if you came to 00:57:26.91\00:57:28.38 the Lord after you've gotten tattoos. 00:57:28.41\00:57:30.21 Jean: Absolutely. 00:57:30.25\00:57:31.61 All right, another question: "Can, or do, angels die?" 00:57:31.65\00:57:35.92 Doug: Well, angels are spiritual creatures 00:57:35.95\00:57:37.92 that were created by God. 00:57:37.95\00:57:39.35 He can uncreate them because Bible tells us 00:57:39.39\00:57:42.79 in Revelation chapter 20, Satan and his angels are cast 00:57:42.82\00:57:45.69 in the lake of fire and they are consumed. 00:57:45.73\00:57:48.70 It's the second death, and so, yes, 00:57:48.73\00:57:50.93 the fallen angels, they're going to die. 00:57:50.97\00:57:53.67 They're kept right now in everlasting 00:57:53.70\00:57:55.00 chains of darkness for that day. 00:57:55.04\00:57:57.34 Jean: All right, Pastor Doug. 00:57:57.37\00:57:58.67 "If a woman represents the church in the 00:57:58.71\00:58:00.68 Bible, what does a man represent?" 00:58:00.71\00:58:02.78 Doug: He is the servant of the woman? 00:58:02.81\00:58:05.81 You know, not every time you find woman 00:58:05.85\00:58:07.98 doesn't mean church, but in certain times. 00:58:08.02\00:58:10.89 Hey, God bless, friends. We are out of time. 00:58:10.92\00:58:12.92 We'll talk to you and study next week. 00:58:12.95\00:58:15.32 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and 00:58:17.73\00:58:19.89 accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.93\00:58:23.03
