¤¤¤ 00:00:01.10\00:00:02.96 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.47 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted; 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.70 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.41 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.44\00:00:16.34 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.38\00:00:19.68 Welcome 00:00:38.40\00:00:43.71 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.88 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.91\00:00:49.78 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:49.81\00:00:51.11 Would you like to hear an Amazing Fact? 00:00:51.15\00:00:53.82 Beginning as a petty thief smuggling cigarettes and 00:00:53.85\00:00:56.62 marijuana, Pablo Escobar eventually came to dominate the 00:00:56.65\00:01:00.62 global cocaine trade through the Medellín cartel, controlling 00:01:00.66\00:01:04.79 over 80% of the drugs shipped to America. 00:01:04.83\00:01:08.26 At one time, his immense operation earned him an 00:01:08.30\00:01:11.10 estimated $420 million a week and the nickname the "King 00:01:11.13\00:01:16.04 of Cocaine." 00:01:16.07\00:01:17.54 By the 1980s, approximately 70 to 80 tons of cocaine was 00:01:17.57\00:01:22.38 entering the US per month making Escobar, according to Forbes in 00:01:22.41\00:01:26.31 1989, the seventh wealthiest person on the planet worth 00:01:26.35\00:01:30.75 approximately about $30 billion. 00:01:30.79\00:01:33.86 In spite of his lethal business, he sought to generate public 00:01:33.89\00:01:36.93 approval by donating to churches and hospitals in Medellín. 00:01:36.96\00:01:40.33 He built soccer fields, parks, paved roads, and even built a 00:01:40.36\00:01:43.97 new neighborhood with 1000 homes for families from the slums. 00:01:44.00\00:01:48.94 His deceptions were so effective, Escobar even 00:01:48.97\00:01:52.04 succeeded in getting himself elected to Colombia's Congress 00:01:52.07\00:01:55.58 in 1982. 00:01:55.61\00:01:57.58 But at heart he was still a ruthless killer. 00:01:57.61\00:02:00.95 Escobar's criminal empire resulted in the deaths of around 00:02:00.98\00:02:04.19 4000 people who dared to challenge his reign, including 00:02:04.22\00:02:08.36 police officers, government officials, journalists, 00:02:08.39\00:02:11.26 even judges. 00:02:11.29\00:02:12.86 Over time, even the government could not be bribed to overlook 00:02:12.89\00:02:16.70 his outrageous crimes and he went into hiding. 00:02:16.73\00:02:20.00 In 1993 he was killed in the shootout with police in a middle 00:02:20.04\00:02:23.81 class Medellín neighborhood. 00:02:23.84\00:02:25.94 This reminds me, Pastor Ross, of another power hungry killer that 00:02:25.97\00:02:29.81 deceives a lot of people regarding his real character. 00:02:29.84\00:02:33.48 Jëan Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:02:33.52\00:02:34.85 As a matter of fact, the Bible speaks of this being, and Jesus 00:02:34.88\00:02:37.79 has this to say about him, John chapter 8, verse 44, 00:02:37.82\00:02:40.86 speaking of the devil, 00:02:40.89\00:02:42.52 "He was a murderer from the beginning, and he does 00:02:42.56\00:02:45.33 not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. 00:02:45.36\00:02:48.46 When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he's 00:02:48.50\00:02:52.00 the father of lies." 00:02:52.03\00:02:54.40 Well, you have this being that was created, at one point, 00:02:54.44\00:02:57.27 perfect, but then he becomes a murderer and it says from the 00:02:57.31\00:03:00.68 beginning he's always plotted to destroy. 00:03:00.71\00:03:03.38 And of course, ultimately, that was revealed in the death 00:03:03.41\00:03:05.35 of Jesus. 00:03:05.38\00:03:06.68 Doug: Yep. 00:03:06.72\00:03:08.02 Yeah, he was just motivated by pride. 00:03:08.05\00:03:09.38 Another passage is in Isaiah chapter 14 and you can read, I 00:03:09.42\00:03:14.12 think, starting with verse 12. 00:03:14.16\00:03:15.86 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! 00:03:15.89\00:03:19.46 How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened 00:03:19.49\00:03:21.63 the nations! 00:03:21.66\00:03:22.96 For you said in your heart, 'I will ascend into heaven, I will 00:03:23.00\00:03:26.80 exalt my throne above the stars of God... 00:03:26.84\00:03:29.54 I will sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.67 sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the 00:03:32.71\00:03:35.78 clouds, I will be like the Most High.'" 00:03:35.81\00:03:38.98 He was just power hungry, wanted God's position, but he's tried 00:03:39.01\00:03:43.95 to deceive people as to his true character. 00:03:43.99\00:03:46.35 But the devil has no problem killing anyone that gets in his 00:03:46.39\00:03:49.59 way and that's why Jesus, of course, went to the cross. 00:03:49.62\00:03:53.63 But some people think, well, if God is a loving God, why did he 00:03:53.66\00:03:56.23 make a devil to tempt us? 00:03:56.26\00:03:58.07 Jëan: That's right. 00:03:58.10\00:03:59.43 If He knew what would happen, why did He even do that 00:03:59.47\00:04:01.14 in the beginning? 00:04:01.17\00:04:02.47 Well, we have a study guide that talks about that. 00:04:02.50\00:04:03.81 It's called, "Did God Create the Devil?" 00:04:03.84\00:04:05.77 You need to read this. 00:04:05.81\00:04:07.11 It's free. 00:04:07.14\00:04:08.48 All you have to do is call 800-835-6747 and you can ask for 00:04:08.51\00:04:12.45 offer number 107 or you can dial pound 250 on your smartphone, 00:04:12.48\00:04:17.59 say, "I'd like that study guide called 'Did God Create 00:04:17.62\00:04:20.66 the Devil?'" 00:04:20.69\00:04:21.92 And of course, we'll send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:04:21.96\00:04:24.43 Our phone line here to the studios is 800-463-7297, with 00:04:24.46\00:04:29.66 your Bible related question. 00:04:29.70\00:04:31.37 Ready to go to the phone lines. 00:04:31.40\00:04:32.70 Our first call of this evening is Cory listening in Ohio. 00:04:32.73\00:04:35.00 Cory, welcome to the program. 00:04:35.04\00:04:37.27 Cory: Hi, how are you doing? 00:04:37.31\00:04:39.07 Doug: Good, good. 00:04:39.11\00:04:40.44 Thanks for calling. 00:04:40.48\00:04:41.78 Cory: Good, good. 00:04:41.81\00:04:43.14 I enjoy your program. 00:04:43.18\00:04:44.48 I glean a lot of information about the scriptures from 00:04:44.51\00:04:47.08 your program. 00:04:47.12\00:04:48.48 Doug: Well, thank you. 00:04:48.52\00:04:49.95 Cory: My question is, in Revelation 12, verse 1 through 00:04:49.98\00:04:54.09 9, it's the story of the war in heaven. 00:04:54.12\00:05:00.96 heavenly host and threw them down to the earth, how could he 00:05:01.00\00:05:03.87 have fought with them against Michael and the angels? 00:05:03.90\00:05:06.00 How could they--if they weren't there? 00:05:06.03\00:05:08.47 Because those angels are considered as his angels, the 00:05:08.50\00:05:11.91 ones that he threw down to the ground, from the information 00:05:11.94\00:05:14.78 that I've received from different sources. 00:05:14.81\00:05:18.15 And I'm just trying to figure out how he was able to fight 00:05:18.18\00:05:22.78 with those angels if he threw them down to the ground. 00:05:22.82\00:05:25.99 Doug: Yeah, when it says that a third of the angels were cast to 00:05:26.02\00:05:28.96 the ground, these are the ones cast out with Satan. 00:05:28.99\00:05:32.16 It's not that Satan defeated a third of the good angels. 00:05:32.19\00:05:35.83 One third of the angels followed Satan in his rebellion and when 00:05:35.86\00:05:39.47 Satan was cast to the earth--that's actually even in 00:05:39.50\00:05:42.30 the verse we just read, "I will cast thee out as profane because 00:05:42.34\00:05:45.17 you have sinned," and Satan was cast out of heaven. 00:05:45.21\00:05:48.54 One third of the angels were cast out with him and you can 00:05:48.58\00:05:51.51 also read in Matthew 25, it says, "This lake of fire is 00:05:51.55\00:05:55.22 prepared for the devil and his angels." 00:05:55.25\00:05:58.45 And so, I don't know, am I answering what you're 00:05:58.49\00:06:01.36 asking, Cory? 00:06:01.39\00:06:02.69 Does that make sense? 00:06:02.72\00:06:04.06 Cory: No, the sequence is--something is wrong with the 00:06:04.09\00:06:06.93 sequence and it says--this is what it says. 00:06:06.96\00:06:10.40 "And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, 00:06:10.43\00:06:14.07 then down to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman 00:06:14.10\00:06:17.01 and there was a great battle in heaven: and Michael and the 00:06:17.04\00:06:19.47 angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon fought and 00:06:19.51\00:06:22.24 his angels." 00:06:22.28\00:06:24.05 I'm trying to figure out, who did he throw down to the ground? 00:06:24.08\00:06:27.18 Doug: Yeah, this--yeah, this is the--a third of the angels that 00:06:27.22\00:06:31.59 were fighting with Lucifer against Michael and his angels 00:06:31.62\00:06:35.39 are the ones that are cast to the ground. 00:06:35.42\00:06:37.63 Jëan: Yeah, maybe just to add a little more, you know, there's a 00:06:37.66\00:06:39.43 feature that we see in Bible prophecy and this might be what 00:06:39.46\00:06:41.86 might help a little bit. 00:06:41.90\00:06:43.37 Sometimes, the statement is made in prophecy and then the 00:06:43.40\00:06:46.84 prophet, in vision, backs up to explain how he got to 00:06:46.87\00:06:50.64 that point. 00:06:50.67\00:06:51.97 So, in other words, like you say, in the introductory of 00:06:52.01\00:06:53.81 Revelation 12, it says the devil with his tail was able to just 00:06:53.84\00:06:56.98 throw down a third of the stars of heaven, but it's not until 00:06:57.01\00:06:59.81 you get to verse 8 and 9 you actually find out how He 00:06:59.85\00:07:02.75 did that. 00:07:02.78\00:07:04.12 Well, then it goes on to say, well, "There was war in heaven: 00:07:04.15\00:07:06.32 Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon 00:07:06.35\00:07:09.12 fought and his angels." 00:07:09.16\00:07:10.59 And then it goes on in verse 9, "So the great dragon was cast 00:07:10.63\00:07:13.46 out, that old serpent of old called the devil and Satan, who 00:07:13.50\00:07:15.90 deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his 00:07:15.93\00:07:18.27 angels were cast out with him." 00:07:18.30\00:07:19.73 So, it begins with the statement, "The devil was able 00:07:19.77\00:07:21.77 to deceive a third of the angels and they were cast out," and 00:07:21.80\00:07:24.77 then it's not until 9, you get the details of exactly how that 00:07:24.81\00:07:27.81 happened, "While there was a war, and he lost and he and his 00:07:27.84\00:07:30.95 angels were thrown out." 00:07:30.98\00:07:32.31 Doug: All through prophecy it'll give you the headline. 00:07:32.35\00:07:34.12 Jëan: That's right. 00:07:34.15\00:07:35.48 Doug: Then it goes back and gives you the story. 00:07:35.52\00:07:36.82 Jëan: That's right. 00:07:36.85\00:07:38.19 Kind of repeat and enlarge. 00:07:38.22\00:07:39.52 So, hopefully, that helps, Cory. 00:07:39.55\00:07:40.86 Doug: He would enjoy our study that we're offering on "Did God 00:07:40.89\00:07:43.19 Create the Devil?" 00:07:43.22\00:07:44.56 Jëan: That's right. 00:07:44.59\00:07:45.89 I think it's in there. 00:07:45.93\00:07:47.23 We talk about that. 00:07:47.30\00:07:48.43 Again, the number to call for that is just 800-835-6747. 00:07:48.46\00:07:50.07 That is our resource phone line, you'll see it on your screens if 00:07:50.10\00:07:52.73 you're watching, or dial pound 250 and say, "I'd like 00:07:52.77\00:07:57.27 to--'Bible Answers Live,' I'd like that study guide, 'Did God 00:07:57.31\00:08:00.61 Create the Devil?'" 00:08:00.64\00:08:01.98 All right, next caller that we have is Brittany in California. 00:08:02.01\00:08:04.08 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:08:04.11\00:08:05.85 Brittany: Yeah. 00:08:05.88\00:08:07.18 My question is, is the Torah relevant for Christians today in 00:08:07.22\00:08:12.12 our modern time? 00:08:12.15\00:08:14.26 Doug: Is it okay for a Christian to read the Torah? 00:08:14.29\00:08:17.96 Brittany: Mm-hm. 00:08:17.99\00:08:19.33 Doug: Yeah. 00:08:19.36\00:08:20.66 Now, of course, the Torah are sacred Jewish writings and 00:08:20.70\00:08:22.16 there's a lot that can be learned from that, so there's 00:08:22.20\00:08:25.87 nothing morally wrong with doing that. 00:08:25.90\00:08:29.60 You know, by all means there's a good history in there. 00:08:29.64\00:08:33.38 The Torah is a word that is used to sort of encompass a lot of 00:08:33.41\00:08:37.25 the Hebrew scriptures, but it may also include some that would 00:08:37.28\00:08:41.28 not be in our Old Testament, but would be the sacred writings. 00:08:41.32\00:08:45.32 I think the word "torah" is law, in the greater sense. 00:08:45.35\00:08:48.26 So, yeah by all means. 00:08:48.29\00:08:50.16 When you're reading your Bible, you're reading part of the Torah 00:08:50.19\00:08:52.19 right there. 00:08:52.23\00:08:53.56 So, hopefully that helps a little bit. 00:08:53.60\00:08:56.33 Hey, thank you Brittany. 00:08:56.36\00:08:57.67 Jëan: All right, we've got Tina listening in Nevada. 00:08:57.70\00:08:59.37 Tina, welcome to the program. 00:08:59.40\00:09:02.14 Tina: Hi. 00:09:02.17\00:09:03.61 Doug: Hi, Tina. 00:09:03.64\00:09:04.94 Thanks for calling. 00:09:04.97\00:09:06.44 Tina: This is her daughter. 00:09:06.47\00:09:07.88 She's standing--she's sitting right here with me. 00:09:07.91\00:09:09.98 This is Tina. 00:09:10.01\00:09:11.51 She just gets nervous on the phone which--and now I am a 00:09:11.55\00:09:14.35 little nervous too, but we are both here. 00:09:14.38\00:09:18.82 We were just wondering about lots of different religions and 00:09:18.85\00:09:25.83 one particularly that we had been involved in, you know, 00:09:25.86\00:09:29.86 before--I guess our question is, why do some believe that they're 00:09:29.90\00:09:34.37 the only ones, they're the only ones who have the truth and you 00:09:34.40\00:09:38.34 have to do it, it gives you almost that sense of fear to go 00:09:38.37\00:09:42.68 off and look in a direction or to keep reading, actually, 00:09:42.71\00:09:45.45 because the Bible says, you know, "Keep reading, keep 00:09:45.48\00:09:47.55 seeking, keep knocking," but you have man telling you a whole 00:09:47.58\00:09:50.72 another thing. 00:09:50.75\00:09:52.09 And so, I guess what our question is, is that why do 00:09:52.12\00:09:54.36 some--and some in particular believe they're the only ones 00:09:54.39\00:09:59.69 that are going to get--? 00:09:59.73\00:10:01.03 Doug: Yeah, why do some denominations teach that they're 00:10:01.06\00:10:03.33 the only ones that are going to make it to heaven? 00:10:03.37\00:10:05.57 Well, to be honest, I think they do that the same reason that 00:10:05.60\00:10:09.10 some political candidates can't say anything good about any 00:10:09.14\00:10:13.04 other candidate because they say, "I'm the only answer." 00:10:13.07\00:10:15.14 They don't want to give any other options. 00:10:15.18\00:10:17.71 As soon as you admit to people that you don't have all the 00:10:17.75\00:10:22.58 truth and they begin to look around, there are some churches 00:10:22.62\00:10:26.15 that teach their members they are not allowed to look at or 00:10:26.19\00:10:29.96 read religious information from any other denomination. 00:10:29.99\00:10:34.46 Now, we don't do that in our church. 00:10:34.50\00:10:36.63 In fact, you know, I said, I think, during this series, we 00:10:36.67\00:10:39.43 think the greatest part of Christ's true followers are not 00:10:39.47\00:10:41.97 members of our church. 00:10:42.00\00:10:43.24 I hope they all come and join before it's over, but we know 00:10:43.27\00:10:46.57 there's godly people in many different churches. 00:10:46.61\00:10:49.01 But when a church says you're not allowed to read anything 00:10:49.04\00:10:52.28 written by another church, it's like they put blinders on their 00:10:52.31\00:10:55.68 members so they can't look around and I think the truth--if 00:10:55.72\00:10:59.22 your church has the truth, it should bear up 00:10:59.25\00:11:01.92 under investigation. 00:11:01.96\00:11:04.03 A couple of years ago, you know, we did a friendly debate at our 00:11:04.06\00:11:10.10 church here and another pastor said, you know, he doesn't think 00:11:10.13\00:11:13.60 we need to keep the Sabbath anymore. 00:11:13.64\00:11:15.00 And I said, "I think we do," and we said, "Well, let's take it to 00:11:15.04\00:11:18.27 the people and see what the Bible says." 00:11:18.31\00:11:19.71 And I think that the truth should bear up 00:11:19.74\00:11:22.28 under investigation. 00:11:22.31\00:11:24.38 And so, yeah, a lot of these denominations, they say, "If 00:11:24.41\00:11:27.75 you're not a member of our church, then you're not one of 00:11:27.78\00:11:29.92 the 144,000 and only members of our church are going to 00:11:29.95\00:11:33.56 be saved." 00:11:33.59\00:11:34.92 You know, while I believe my church is the closest to the 00:11:34.96\00:11:37.09 Bible--I mean, if it's not, I'm in the wrong church, clearly. 00:11:37.13\00:11:40.23 I mean, you want to be--every pastor should think, my church 00:11:40.26\00:11:42.50 is as closest to the Bible as I can get, because you--we all 00:11:42.53\00:11:45.70 want to be as close to scriptural truth as we can be. 00:11:45.73\00:11:48.87 But I think it's reckless to say that we're flawless. 00:11:48.90\00:11:52.21 There's a Pope that says that he's infallible. 00:11:52.24\00:11:55.08 The only one who is really infallible in this world 00:11:55.11\00:11:57.35 is Jesus. 00:11:57.38\00:11:58.71 Jëan: And that's right. 00:11:58.75\00:12:00.12 Jesus Himself said, "Other sheep I have which are not of this 00:12:00.15\00:12:02.28 fold, them I need to call and they will come." 00:12:02.32\00:12:05.15 So, yes. 00:12:05.19\00:12:06.42 So, see, as seekers of truth, in whatever church, even different 00:12:06.45\00:12:09.62 religions, if they open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, 00:12:09.66\00:12:13.09 they will be led into truth. 00:12:13.13\00:12:14.63 And Jesus said, "You shall know the truth and the truth will set 00:12:14.66\00:12:17.30 you free." 00:12:17.33\00:12:18.63 So, we shouldn't be afraid of the truth. 00:12:18.67\00:12:20.37 All right, thank you. 00:12:20.40\00:12:21.70 Next caller that we have is Andrew in West Virginia. 00:12:21.74\00:12:24.17 Andrew, welcome to the program. 00:12:24.21\00:12:26.51 Andrew: Awesome, awesome. 00:12:26.54\00:12:28.21 So, my question is--say you're seeking employment and it's 00:12:28.24\00:12:33.82 very, very hard, but every employer wants you to work on 00:12:33.85\00:12:37.55 Sabbath, that they'll give you Sunday off. 00:12:37.59\00:12:39.59 Obviously, you need money live. 00:12:39.62\00:12:40.92 How should you proceed with that? 00:12:40.96\00:12:43.73 Doug: Yeah, it's a challenge. 00:12:43.76\00:12:46.03 And you know, I think that if you're going to seek first God's 00:12:46.06\00:12:49.56 kingdom, then you just need to settle that that is not 00:12:49.60\00:12:52.93 an option. 00:12:52.97\00:12:54.27 And of course, there's millions of people around the world 00:12:54.30\00:12:58.47 that--I know just in our church are 22 million members, and 00:12:58.51\00:13:02.58 there's many other Sabbath keepers around the world. 00:13:02.61\00:13:04.58 They're just resolved that even if it is difficult, that 00:13:04.61\00:13:08.05 breaking God's commandments are not an option. 00:13:08.08\00:13:09.85 And God opens doors, it sometimes can be a challenge, 00:13:09.88\00:13:12.49 but I don't think you need to be afraid. 00:13:12.52\00:13:15.06 He'll work miracles. 00:13:15.09\00:13:16.42 He provides for his people. 00:13:16.46\00:13:18.69 Jëan: Yeah, and Jesus said, you know, do not worry about what 00:13:18.73\00:13:20.93 you're going to wear or what you're going to eat, God 00:13:20.96\00:13:22.83 will provide. 00:13:22.86\00:13:24.17 So, if we stand up for what we know to be true, God has 00:13:24.20\00:13:26.63 promised to provide for our needs, for us and our families. 00:13:26.67\00:13:29.90 Doug: Yeah, there'll be tests. 00:13:29.94\00:13:31.57 We're not denying that, you know, you may get tested on your 00:13:31.61\00:13:33.94 faith, but give God a chance to prove himself God and say, "I'm 00:13:33.98\00:13:39.68 going to trust the Lord." 00:13:39.71\00:13:40.95 And you know, if it were me, I think a lot of employers would 00:13:40.98\00:13:43.85 say finding honest employees is hard. 00:13:43.89\00:13:46.55 And if you got an employee that says, "I'm not going to break 00:13:46.59\00:13:48.62 the fourth commandment even if I lose my job," that means that 00:13:48.66\00:13:51.69 employee is probably going to work when they're there and 00:13:51.73\00:13:53.96 they're not going to steal your materials from your office or 00:13:54.00\00:13:57.47 your store or whatever. 00:13:57.50\00:13:59.00 So, honest employees are hard to find. 00:13:59.03\00:14:02.34 I just--I trust the Lord, he's going to provide. 00:14:02.37\00:14:06.01 Thanks so much, Andrew, appreciate your call. 00:14:06.04\00:14:08.54 Jëan: We've got Bonnie listening in Oregon. 00:14:08.58\00:14:10.38 Bonnie, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:14:10.41\00:14:12.08 You're on the air. 00:14:12.11\00:14:13.52 Bonnie: Thank you so much for taking my call. 00:14:13.55\00:14:16.82 My question is, when we get to heaven, will we still have the 00:14:16.85\00:14:20.56 same character that we died with even though we've taken our sins 00:14:20.59\00:14:26.23 to the Lord and asked Him to help us to overcome? 00:14:26.26\00:14:30.07 What will our characters be in heaven, because the thief on the 00:14:30.10\00:14:32.87 cross really didn't have much time for character development. 00:14:32.90\00:14:36.64 Doug: Yeah, well, that's a good question. 00:14:36.67\00:14:38.21 But the thief on the cross did have time for heart conversion 00:14:38.24\00:14:42.71 and we think he went through the steps of conversion, which are, 00:14:42.74\00:14:46.48 you repent and you confess and then you receive. 00:14:46.51\00:14:51.45 And he publicly said, you know, we're getting what we deserve, 00:14:51.49\00:14:55.12 he expressed sorrow and then he prayed and said, "Lord, remember 00:14:55.16\00:14:59.69 me," and Jesus promised, "You'll be with Me in paradise." 00:14:59.73\00:15:02.40 I think he accepted that and his heart was transformed. 00:15:02.43\00:15:05.07 And as soon as we are justified and we're given that new heart, 00:15:05.10\00:15:08.40 when he comes forth in the Resurrection, he's still going 00:15:08.44\00:15:10.44 to have that new heart. 00:15:10.47\00:15:11.81 Now, he may not have had time to, you know, go through the 00:15:11.84\00:15:15.41 character development of being tempted on his diet or his 00:15:15.44\00:15:18.75 temper or whatever the problems might have been, but I think the 00:15:18.78\00:15:21.65 Holy Spirit will compensate at times like that. 00:15:21.68\00:15:25.29 He'll be in the kingdom. 00:15:25.32\00:15:26.72 Thank you, Bonnie. 00:15:26.76\00:15:28.06 Hope that helps a little. 00:15:28.09\00:15:29.42 By the way, I have a book about the thief on the cross and it's 00:15:29.46\00:15:33.80 called, "Crucified with Christ." 00:15:33.83\00:15:35.10 I think you'll enjoy that. 00:15:35.13\00:15:36.63 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have is Cindy listening 00:15:36.67\00:15:38.60 in California. 00:15:38.63\00:15:39.97 Cindy, welcome to the program. 00:15:40.00\00:15:42.14 Cindy: Good evening, pastors. 00:15:42.17\00:15:43.47 Thank you for taking my call. 00:15:43.51\00:15:45.17 Doug: Thank you. 00:15:45.21\00:15:46.51 And your question. 00:15:46.54\00:15:48.41 Cindy: My question is about the prophecies in the Old Testament 00:15:48.44\00:15:53.38 and New about the sun turning dark, the moon turning to blood, 00:15:53.42\00:15:58.29 and the stars falling, earthquakes. 00:15:58.32\00:16:01.56 I've heard from pastors that these already happened in the 17 00:16:01.59\00:16:05.39 and 1800s, but it seems in Revelation that maybe these are 00:16:05.43\00:16:11.20 ahead of us, from Revelation 6:12, the sixth seal. 00:16:11.23\00:16:16.34 So, are these things that could still be in front of us? 00:16:16.37\00:16:19.81 Doug: Yes and yes. 00:16:19.84\00:16:21.94 This is one of those prophecies where I think you've got a 00:16:21.98\00:16:24.31 dual application. 00:16:24.35\00:16:25.88 God sometimes shows us, historically, the fulfillment of 00:16:25.91\00:16:28.95 these things. 00:16:28.98\00:16:30.29 After the 1798 period that is given in Revelation and Daniel, 00:16:30.32\00:16:36.02 it says that the sun would be dark and the moon would turn to 00:16:36.06\00:16:38.86 blood and the stars would fall from heaven. 00:16:38.89\00:16:40.66 Those things happened on a grand scale globally. 00:16:40.70\00:16:45.03 Big Lisbon earthquake was felt, sent shockwave all around North 00:16:45.07\00:16:49.57 Africa and Europe and it's still recorded by the seismologist as 00:16:49.60\00:16:54.51 one of the biggest and a great human loss of human life. 00:16:54.54\00:16:58.25 Jëan: Seventeen fifty-five. 00:16:58.28\00:17:00.28 Doug: Yeah. 00:17:00.32\00:17:01.65 These things happen historically, but they're going 00:17:01.68\00:17:02.98 to happen again in quick succession just before the 00:17:03.02\00:17:04.99 Second Coming because one thing that didn't happen, says, "And 00:17:05.02\00:17:07.32 the heavens departed as a scroll." 00:17:07.36\00:17:09.06 And so, that's still to come. 00:17:09.09\00:17:10.99 So, isn't that what you understand? 00:17:11.03\00:17:12.89 Jëan: Yeah, absolutely. 00:17:12.93\00:17:14.20 I'm just looking at it. 00:17:14.23\00:17:15.56 You know, what's significant about that is you look at 00:17:15.60\00:17:16.90 the date 1755 and then you have 1780 and then you have 1833. 00:17:16.93\00:17:21.37 Right around that time, it's after the Protestant Reformation 00:17:21.40\00:17:23.91 is already taken off, people are beginning to study the 00:17:23.94\00:17:25.91 scriptures, in particular the prophecies of the Bible. 00:17:25.94\00:17:28.81 And as they were studying these prophecies, recognizing that the 00:17:28.84\00:17:32.18 2300 year prophecy of Daniel 8:14 was coming to an end, then 00:17:32.21\00:17:36.99 there was this great earthquake, the Lisbon earthquake. 00:17:37.02\00:17:39.25 Something else passed that is interesting. 00:17:39.29\00:17:40.76 At the time, Lisbon was the capital and Portugal was the 00:17:40.79\00:17:43.63 capital of the slave trade around the world and a judgment 00:17:43.66\00:17:46.76 came upon this city, and then, of course, North Africa, Europe, 00:17:46.80\00:17:49.73 and even as far as the Americas. 00:17:49.76\00:17:51.70 And then the dark day, May 19, 1780. 00:17:51.73\00:17:54.17 And then, probably the most spectacular star shower 00:17:54.20\00:17:58.17 was in-- 00:17:58.21\00:17:59.54 Doug: That's the one that was in--it's--was November 12. 00:17:59.57\00:18:01.24 Jëan: Oh, that's 12. 00:18:01.28\00:18:02.58 Doug: Yeah, it was November 12, 1833, and so this is the 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.95 190th anniversary. 00:18:04.98\00:18:07.35 Sorry, I got my events mixed up. 00:18:07.38\00:18:10.55 They called it a Leonid meteor storm. 00:18:10.59\00:18:12.79 I'm looking at it in the Library of Congress. 00:18:12.82\00:18:15.19 It's--and history is-- 00:18:15.22\00:18:16.56 Jëan: Remarkable, yeah. 00:18:16.59\00:18:17.89 Yeah. 00:18:17.93\00:18:19.26 So, yes, it had a historical application. 00:18:19.29\00:18:20.66 Could it have a future application? 00:18:20.70\00:18:22.00 Well, when you read about what happens just before Jesus comes, 00:18:22.03\00:18:24.90 it seems as though all of nature's turned upside down. 00:18:24.93\00:18:27.37 There's a great earthquake that the Bible speaks of at the end 00:18:27.40\00:18:29.97 as well, so. 00:18:30.01\00:18:31.31 Doug: Sun will go dark, moon will look like blood because the 00:18:31.34\00:18:33.11 skies will be filled with smoke. 00:18:33.14\00:18:34.48 It's all going to happen again. 00:18:34.51\00:18:36.04 Thank you so much. 00:18:36.08\00:18:37.38 Appreciate your question. 00:18:37.41\00:18:38.75 And who's next? 00:18:38.78\00:18:40.08 Jëan: All right, we got Gary listening in Illinois. 00:18:40.12\00:18:41.52 Gary, welcome to the program. 00:18:41.55\00:18:43.92 Gary: Thank you. 00:18:43.95\00:18:45.32 In Genesis 1:26 it says, "Let them have dominion over 00:18:45.35\00:18:49.69 the earth." 00:18:49.72\00:18:50.96 Does that mean we're to be good stewards over the planet or have 00:18:50.99\00:18:54.73 the option to run the planet straight into hell like we're 00:18:54.73\00:18:58.13 currently doing by using coal and oil? 00:18:58.17\00:19:02.14 Doug: Well, to answer your question, yes, people should be 00:19:02.17\00:19:05.87 good stewards of the planet. 00:19:05.91\00:19:07.64 In fact, in Revelation, I think it's chapter 16, verse 11, it 00:19:07.68\00:19:12.08 says, "God will destroy them that destroy the earth." 00:19:12.11\00:19:15.25 Jëan: Chapter 11. 00:19:15.28\00:19:16.62 Doug: 11, verse-- 00:19:16.65\00:19:17.95 Jëan: Probably 16. 00:19:17.99\00:19:19.32 We might have got that backwards. 00:19:19.35\00:19:20.66 Doug: We're dyslexic, a little bit sometimes. 00:19:20.69\00:19:21.92 Yeah, it says that "the nations were angry and the time of Your 00:19:21.96\00:19:24.83 wrath should come and that You should destroy those that 00:19:24.86\00:19:27.40 destroy the earth." 00:19:27.40\00:19:29.73 Jëan: Yes, Revelation 11, verse--I'm looking at it 00:19:29.76\00:19:33.67 right here. 00:19:33.70\00:19:35.04 Doug: Yeah, so we should be good stewards of the planet and 00:19:35.07\00:19:38.74 dominion was given to the planet--given to Adam and Eve of 00:19:38.77\00:19:41.94 the planet and they were to care for the creatures and tend 00:19:41.98\00:19:44.98 the Garden. 00:19:45.01\00:19:46.35 And even now, I think, you know, Christians should be responsible 00:19:46.38\00:19:51.12 stewards of everything, their time, their words, and the world 00:19:51.15\00:19:55.92 that God has made. 00:19:55.96\00:19:57.29 As far as possible, we should do our best. 00:19:57.33\00:19:58.63 Jëan: Revelation chapter 11, verse 18. 00:19:58.66\00:20:00.60 Doug: That's it. 00:20:00.63\00:20:01.90 Thanks so much. 00:20:01.93\00:20:03.26 Appreciate that, Glenn. 00:20:03.30\00:20:04.47 Jëan: All right, next caller that we have--I think that 00:20:04.50\00:20:06.00 was Gary. 00:20:06.03\00:20:07.30 We've got Glenn now listening in Ohio. 00:20:07.34\00:20:08.64 Glenn, welcome to the program. 00:20:08.67\00:20:10.87 Glenn: Good evening to you and thanks for taking my call. 00:20:10.91\00:20:13.71 Doug: Absolutely. 00:20:13.74\00:20:15.04 Glenn: Scripture is Luke 17, verses 20 through 22. 00:20:15.08\00:20:20.18 My question is, what did Jesus mean when He said, "The kingdom 00:20:20.22\00:20:23.75 of God is within you"? 00:20:23.79\00:20:26.15 Doug: Yeah, well, the--and He says here, "The kingdom of God 00:20:26.19\00:20:29.32 does not come with observation; nor will they say, 'See here!' 00:20:29.36\00:20:32.23 or 'See there!' 00:20:32.26\00:20:33.60 For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." 00:20:33.63\00:20:34.93 When Jesus began His ministry, He said, "Repent, for the 00:20:34.93\00:20:38.43 kingdom of heaven is at hand." 00:20:38.47\00:20:40.20 I think John the Baptist said the same thing. 00:20:40.24\00:20:43.37 And if you read in Acts chapter 1--I forget, it may have been 00:20:43.41\00:20:47.11 Philip that said to Jesus, "Lord, will you, at this time, 00:20:47.14\00:20:51.08 you know, establish Israel as a kingdom?" 00:20:51.11\00:20:53.62 And He said, "It's not for you to know the times and seasons." 00:20:53.65\00:20:56.85 So, they even misunderstood there. 00:20:56.89\00:20:59.59 There's two aspects to the kingdom, Glenn. 00:20:59.62\00:21:02.42 You've got the internal kingdom where you invite Jesus to be the 00:21:02.46\00:21:05.99 Lord of your life and sit on the throne of your heart, that 00:21:06.03\00:21:08.80 begins right now. 00:21:08.83\00:21:10.40 But there is a time when Christ comes to receive the kingdom, 00:21:10.43\00:21:13.50 and this world that He has ransomed, He will get it back. 00:21:13.54\00:21:17.64 And so, that is the--the physical kingdom of God will be 00:21:17.67\00:21:20.71 set up here on earth at the end of the 1000 years, the spiritual 00:21:20.74\00:21:24.11 kingdom is already available and it's within reach for everyone. 00:21:24.15\00:21:28.42 Jëan: Yes, you know, if somebody surrenders their life to Christ, 00:21:28.45\00:21:30.85 they become a citizen of the kingdom. 00:21:30.89\00:21:32.72 If Jesus is ruling in their heart, we call that the kingdom 00:21:32.75\00:21:35.19 of grace. 00:21:35.22\00:21:36.52 And eventually, the kingdom of grace will give way to the 00:21:36.56\00:21:38.36 kingdom of glory when Jesus comes a second time and the 00:21:38.39\00:21:41.50 earth is finally recreated at the end of the 1000 years. 00:21:41.53\00:21:44.37 So, two parts of the kingdom as you mentioned. 00:21:44.40\00:21:47.07 All right, great. 00:21:47.10\00:21:48.44 Next question that we have is--let's see, we've got James 00:21:48.47\00:21:51.11 in Texas. 00:21:51.14\00:21:52.47 James, welcome to the program. 00:21:52.51\00:21:54.61 James: Yes, thank you for taking my call tonight. 00:21:54.64\00:21:58.71 Doug: Yes, and we're glad you're calling. 00:21:58.75\00:22:00.32 Your question. 00:22:00.35\00:22:01.68 James: Yes, I'm trying to get the truth about a kind of 00:22:01.72\00:22:05.62 a urgent matter. 00:22:05.65\00:22:07.49 Some people say that the death decree is the end of probation 00:22:07.52\00:22:12.73 and some say that is the mark of the beast. 00:22:12.76\00:22:15.20 Can you tell me if that's in scriptures, when the death 00:22:15.23\00:22:19.53 decree--I mean, not death decree, the end of probation is, 00:22:19.57\00:22:22.74 because I can't find it anywhere and it's kind of confusing me. 00:22:22.77\00:22:25.81 Doug: Yeah, yeah, good question. 00:22:25.84\00:22:27.78 You're not going to find the phrase in the probation, 00:22:27.81\00:22:31.45 you'll find the teaching. 00:22:31.48\00:22:32.85 Now, for instance, is it Revelation 22 where Jesus said, 00:22:32.88\00:22:36.55 "Let him that is just"--you might want to look that up 00:22:36.58\00:22:38.25 real quick. 00:22:38.29\00:22:39.62 As far as the decree, it doesn't call it a decree, it's called a 00:22:39.65\00:22:42.76 decree--in Daniel 3 a decree is made by Nebuchadnezzar. 00:22:42.79\00:22:47.50 A decree is signed by Darius in Daniel chapter 6 as a death 00:22:47.50\00:22:51.00 decree, unless they worship a certain way. 00:22:51.03\00:22:53.10 Revelation alludes to the same kind of law, it doesn't use the 00:22:53.13\00:22:56.20 word decree. 00:22:56.24\00:22:57.57 And it says in verse 17 of Revelation 13, "No one might buy 00:22:57.61\00:23:00.84 or sell except the one who has the mark, the name of the beast, 00:23:00.88\00:23:04.28 or the number of his name." 00:23:04.31\00:23:05.65 Well, it stands to reason that if they're going to enforce a 00:23:05.68\00:23:08.08 law that no one can buy or sell, there'll be a decree that 00:23:08.12\00:23:12.02 states that. 00:23:12.05\00:23:13.29 Jëan: And we have that verse that I think you're referring 00:23:13.32\00:23:15.12 to, Revelation 22, verse 11. 00:23:15.16\00:23:16.83 Jesus says, "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; he that 00:23:16.86\00:23:20.36 is filthy, let him be filthy still; he that is righteous, let 00:23:20.40\00:23:23.53 him be righteous still; he that is holy, let him be holy still, 00:23:23.57\00:23:26.77 and behold, I come quickly..." 00:23:26.80\00:23:28.44 So, that is made before Jesus comes. 00:23:28.47\00:23:30.77 And then Daniel chapter 12, verse 1, it says, "At that time 00:23:30.81\00:23:33.17 Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands over the 00:23:33.21\00:23:35.64 sons of thy people; and there will be a time of trouble, worse 00:23:35.68\00:23:38.81 than the world has ever seen... 00:23:38.85\00:23:40.15 But at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one 00:23:40.18\00:23:42.48 found written in the book." 00:23:42.52\00:23:43.85 So, you have the close of probation, you have a time of 00:23:43.89\00:23:46.32 trouble, the seven last plagues, the end of which is the death 00:23:46.35\00:23:49.16 decree, but Jesus comes before that death decree can 00:23:49.19\00:23:52.33 be enacted. 00:23:52.36\00:23:53.66 Doug: Yeah, and when you read about the seven last plagues it 00:23:53.70\00:23:55.36 says instead of repenting, they don't repent, they curse 00:23:55.40\00:23:57.93 their God. 00:23:57.97\00:23:59.20 Yeah, so there's no repenting, their probations close during 00:23:59.23\00:24:01.97 the seven last plagues. 00:24:02.00\00:24:03.41 That's probably the best we can do now. 00:24:03.44\00:24:05.04 The other idea about probation closing would be when Noah and 00:24:05.07\00:24:09.68 his family boarded the ark. 00:24:09.71\00:24:11.48 There were seven days when life went on, but their probation was 00:24:11.51\00:24:15.45 closed, the door was shut, and it'll be that way near the end 00:24:15.48\00:24:18.59 of time. 00:24:18.62\00:24:19.95 Well, friends, we got 13, 10, 9 seconds before our break, but 00:24:19.99\00:24:24.89 we're going to take more questions in the second half 00:24:24.93\00:24:27.03 in a cave. 00:25:20.02\00:25:22.12 He had everything money could buy, everything but happiness. 00:25:22.15\00:25:25.79 But all of the fun and excitement he enjoyed left his 00:25:25.82\00:25:28.59 life out of control. 00:25:28.62\00:25:30.39 His search eventually led him to a cave above Palm Springs that 00:25:30.43\00:25:34.20 became his home. 00:25:34.23\00:25:35.66 While Doug scavenged for food in garbage bins, his father owned a 00:25:35.70\00:25:39.53 yacht, a Learjet, and an airline. 00:25:39.57\00:25:42.34 But in his cave home, he discovered a dust covered Bible. 00:25:42.37\00:25:46.14 As he began to read, he soon learned of his true purpose 00:25:46.17\00:25:49.44 in life. 00:25:49.48\00:25:50.78 "The Richest Caveman," is the extraordinary true story of 00:25:50.81\00:25:54.22 Doug Batchelor that tells how a rebellious teenager who once 00:25:54.25\00:25:57.52 lived in a cave became a tremendous soul winner for 00:25:57.55\00:26:00.66 Jesus Christ. 00:27:57.27\00:27:58.61 Jim, welcome to the program. 00:27:58.64\00:28:00.94 Jim: Yes, hello. 00:28:00.98\00:28:02.31 Doug: Hi, thanks for waiting. 00:28:02.34\00:28:04.01 Jim: We were doing a Bible study the other week and somebody 00:28:04.05\00:28:07.82 brought up about Adam and Eve running around naked. 00:28:07.85\00:28:13.49 I said, "No, they was clothed with the light of God," I guess. 00:28:13.52\00:28:19.93 How do you explain that to somebody? 00:28:19.96\00:28:22.83 Doug: Well, I'll have Pastor Ross look something up for me 00:28:22.86\00:28:25.40 while I share some other verses with you. 00:28:25.43\00:28:26.97 In Revelation where he talks about clothes with white 00:28:27.00\00:28:28.77 robes--is that 7--I forget. 00:28:28.80\00:28:31.31 But if you look in Mark chapter 9, when Jesus is glorified on 00:28:31.34\00:28:36.78 top of this mountain, with Elijah and Moses appear, says, 00:28:36.81\00:28:40.82 "His clothing became exceedingly shining, white like snow, such 00:28:40.85\00:28:45.09 as no launderer on earth can whiten them." 00:28:45.12\00:28:47.56 I think another passage in Matthew it says that "his 00:28:47.59\00:28:52.56 clothes became like the sun." 00:28:52.59\00:28:55.06 That's what it's--yeah, that's in Matthew--what is it, 16 00:28:55.10\00:28:59.63 or 17? 00:28:59.67\00:29:01.07 Yeah, verse 3, and then when Moses came off the mountain 00:29:01.10\00:29:03.71 after talking to God, he had to veil his face. 00:29:03.74\00:29:06.44 So, he had to cover his face with clothes because it was so 00:29:06.47\00:29:08.84 bright you couldn't look on his face. 00:29:08.88\00:29:11.35 Adam and Eve used to talk to God face to face. 00:29:11.38\00:29:13.72 They had garments of light. 00:29:13.75\00:29:15.08 It was, you know, no artificial fabric, but they were just 00:29:15.12\00:29:18.05 shimmering with God's glory, made in the image of God, and 00:29:18.09\00:29:21.66 when they sinned, those garments of--robes of light went out. 00:29:21.69\00:29:25.03 Jëan: That's right. 00:29:25.06\00:29:26.39 When we look in Revelation chapter 7 talks about those 00:29:26.43\00:29:27.76 who are arrayed white robes, speaking of the redeemed. 00:29:27.76\00:29:30.77 And then we have in Acts chapter 1, verse 10 talks about an angel 00:29:30.80\00:29:34.67 wearing white apparel, dazzling white brightness. 00:29:34.70\00:29:38.21 And I think in the verse itself in Genesis when it talks about 00:29:38.24\00:29:40.71 Adam and he suddenly realized they were naked, it gives the 00:29:40.74\00:29:43.58 idea that at some point in time they weren't naked and they 00:29:43.61\00:29:46.78 became naked and they suddenly realized it. 00:29:46.82\00:29:49.25 So, that would imply then that at some other time they were 00:29:49.28\00:29:51.95 wearing something. 00:29:51.99\00:29:53.32 Doug: Why would they try to cover themselves? 00:29:53.36\00:29:54.66 Jëan: Yeah, why would they suddenly say, "Oh, we're naked"? 00:29:54.69\00:29:56.26 Doug: And then, it's not like God didn't say, "Oh, you 00:29:56.29\00:29:58.49 shouldn't be ashamed to be naked." 00:29:58.53\00:29:59.83 God said, "You should be ashamed. 00:29:59.86\00:30:01.16 Your garments are too small." 00:30:01.20\00:30:02.43 He made bigger ones, because in the book of Genesis it says they 00:30:02.46\00:30:07.27 made aprons of fig leaf and it says they were small and God 00:30:07.30\00:30:11.77 gave them tunics of skin. 00:30:11.81\00:30:14.18 So, not only was it the wrong material, but it wasn't enough. 00:30:14.21\00:30:17.55 So clearly, the clothing in heaven, it's not, you know, it's 00:30:17.58\00:30:20.68 not wool, it's not skin, it's not polyester. 00:30:20.72\00:30:24.65 These are some supernatural garments of glory that they had. 00:30:24.69\00:30:29.19 Jëan: You know, one of the verse, Psalms 104, verse 2, God 00:30:29.22\00:30:32.56 says, speaking of God, "[You] 00:30:32.59\00:30:34.36 cover yourself with light as a garment..." 00:30:34.40\00:30:37.13 Doug: There you go. 00:30:37.17\00:30:38.40 Jëan: And if we're created in God's image, God wears light and 00:30:38.43\00:30:42.90 Adam and Eve had this garment of light. 00:30:42.94\00:30:44.81 Doug: That's a good verse. 00:30:44.84\00:30:46.51 Jëan: Okay, thank you, Jim. 00:30:46.54\00:30:48.04 We have Joan listening in Australia. 00:30:48.08\00:30:50.18 Joan, welcome to the program. 00:30:50.21\00:30:52.91 Joan: Hello, how are you? 00:30:52.95\00:30:54.25 Thank you for taking my call. 00:30:54.28\00:30:55.62 Repetition is the key, "Bible Answers Live." 00:30:55.65\00:30:58.25 My question tonight is Jeremiah chapter 3, verse 9. Can you 00:30:58.29\00:31:02.89 please explain to me that verse and who is she? 00:31:02.92\00:31:07.66 Is she the people or the developing people of God? 00:31:07.66\00:31:11.47 Doug: Alright, let me read this for our friends listening. 00:31:11.50\00:31:13.34 In Jeremiah chapter 3, verse 9 it says, "So it came to pass, 00:31:13.37\00:31:17.21 through her casual harlotry, that she defiled the land and 00:31:17.24\00:31:21.04 committed adultery with stones and with trees." 00:31:21.08\00:31:24.21 It's talking about when the people of God, yeah, 00:31:24.25\00:31:27.95 they--when--the stones and trees, it means they made idols 00:31:27.98\00:31:31.19 out of wood, they made idols out of stone, and they 00:31:31.22\00:31:35.02 worshiped them. 00:31:35.06\00:31:36.39 God consistently called that harlotry. 00:31:36.42\00:31:39.26 In fact, in the book of Hosea it specifically says that Israel 00:31:39.29\00:31:43.53 had played the harlot with her idols. 00:31:43.57\00:31:46.74 So, because God said, "Do not make graven images in the 00:31:46.77\00:31:50.07 second commandment. 00:31:50.11\00:31:51.57 I'm, you know, I'm a living God. 00:31:51.61\00:31:52.91 Any image you make of Me is going to diminish your concept 00:31:52.94\00:31:55.81 of My greatness." 00:31:55.84\00:31:57.18 Whenever they started worshiping idols like the pagan nations 00:31:57.21\00:31:59.91 around them, He said, "You're giving your love to another 00:31:59.95\00:32:02.35 God," and it was called harlotry. 00:32:02.38\00:32:05.32 Jëan: And in Revelation chapter 17, you have a woman, her name 00:32:05.35\00:32:08.09 is Babylon, and she's described as a harlot. 00:32:08.12\00:32:10.86 So, whenever a church leaves the truths of God's Word and forms 00:32:10.89\00:32:15.26 an alliance with political powers or begins to worship 00:32:15.30\00:32:18.73 idols, in this case, spiritually she's described as a harlot. 00:32:18.77\00:32:22.64 Doug: Yeah. 00:32:22.67\00:32:24.01 And in this passage in Jeremiah, it talks about both Israel, the 00:32:24.04\00:32:27.21 northern kingdom, and Judah followed suit and they got 00:32:27.24\00:32:29.84 involved in idolatry too in the time of--well, Solomon did 00:32:29.88\00:32:33.38 before he died, but then got really bad during the time 00:32:33.42\00:32:36.12 of Manasseh. 00:32:36.15\00:32:37.42 Jëan: And both kingdoms would judge for that at some point. 00:32:37.45\00:32:39.99 All right, thank you, Joan. 00:32:40.02\00:32:41.36 We got Betty Lou in California. 00:32:41.39\00:32:43.66 Betty Lou, welcome to the program. 00:32:43.69\00:32:45.99 Betty Lou: Thank you. 00:32:46.03\00:32:47.36 My first question of the first text is Acts 9:36 where Peter 00:32:47.40\00:32:55.84 goes and raises Dorcas. 00:32:55.87\00:32:58.84 It calls her a disciple. 00:32:58.87\00:33:01.64 So, there were women disciples. 00:33:01.68\00:33:04.51 Then, we go to Luke 24:13 and onward for two disciples were on 00:33:04.55\00:33:11.32 the way to Emmaus and Jesus joined them and they didn't 00:33:11.35\00:33:15.92 recognize him. 00:33:15.96\00:33:17.76 Now, they didn't usually put women's names down, and if there 00:33:17.79\00:33:22.20 were women disciples, why could not this other disciple had been 00:33:22.23\00:33:26.67 Mrs. Cleopas? 00:33:26.70\00:33:28.60 And they went to their home together and they asked Jesus to 00:33:28.64\00:33:32.91 stay with them. 00:33:32.94\00:33:34.28 Am I wrong in believing that? 00:33:34.31\00:33:36.88 Doug: No, you're absolutely right in believing that there 00:33:36.91\00:33:40.72 are women disciples. 00:33:40.75\00:33:42.62 Now, of course, the word disciple is different 00:33:42.65\00:33:44.52 from apostle. 00:33:44.55\00:33:45.79 There were no women apostles, the 12 apostles were all men. 00:33:45.82\00:33:50.23 And then, when Judas was replaced in Acts chapter 1, they 00:33:50.26\00:33:53.60 replaced him from among two men. 00:33:53.63\00:33:56.50 Could this other woman--or could this other disciple, Cleopas, it 00:33:56.53\00:34:01.74 couldn't have been Cleopas and his wife. 00:34:01.77\00:34:04.14 Well, it could have been, it doesn't say in the text whoever 00:34:04.17\00:34:08.44 they were. 00:34:08.48\00:34:09.78 It says, "The same hour after Jesus revealed Himself to them," 00:34:09.81\00:34:13.45 that they turned around and went back to Jerusalem together. 00:34:13.48\00:34:17.39 So, all we can do is speculate about what the name or identity 00:34:17.42\00:34:22.36 of the other one was, but there's nothing in the text that 00:34:22.39\00:34:25.36 says it wasn't his wife and there certainly were 00:34:25.39\00:34:29.16 women disciples. 00:34:29.20\00:34:30.53 Mary Magdalene was a disciple. 00:34:30.57\00:34:32.27 Jëan: Just to add to that, Jesus in the Great Commission, He 00:34:32.30\00:34:34.90 said, "Go and make disciples of all nations." 00:34:34.94\00:34:37.57 So, that obviously includes both men and women. 00:34:37.61\00:34:40.04 Doug: Yep, absolutely. 00:34:40.08\00:34:41.98 So, I hope that helps Betty Lou. 00:34:42.01\00:34:43.35 Thank you. 00:34:43.38\00:34:44.68 Jëan: We've got David in Alaska. 00:34:44.71\00:34:46.01 David, welcome to the program. 00:34:46.05\00:34:48.02 David: I've been abused and I'm mentally ill and my question is, 00:34:48.05\00:34:52.32 will God put people to sleep if they can't handle the 00:34:52.35\00:34:55.12 end-time persecution? 00:34:55.16\00:34:57.03 Doug: Well, let me read you a verse that I hope will bring you 00:34:57.06\00:35:00.76 some comfort and maybe some peace of mind. 00:35:00.80\00:35:03.26 You go to 1 Corinthians chapter 10 and let me--just give me a 00:35:03.30\00:35:07.94 second here. 00:35:07.97\00:35:09.27 Here it is, yeah. 00:35:09.30\00:35:10.64 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13. 00:35:10.67\00:35:12.41 Thank you. 00:35:12.44\00:35:13.78 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; 00:35:13.81\00:35:17.91 but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted 00:35:17.95\00:35:21.98 beyond what you are able, but will with the temptation also 00:35:22.02\00:35:26.39 make the way of escape, that you are able to bear it." 00:35:26.42\00:35:29.56 So, either God is going to, you know, get you out of the way of 00:35:29.59\00:35:33.50 the temptation or make sure that whatever temptation or trial 00:35:33.53\00:35:37.40 comes you are able to bear it. 00:35:37.43\00:35:39.43 So, don't worry that you're ever going to be given something by 00:35:39.47\00:35:42.80 God that you can't handle with His grace. 00:35:42.84\00:35:45.34 But there are going to be some that, you know, He loves that 00:35:45.37\00:35:47.98 He'll lay to rest. 00:35:48.01\00:35:49.98 Where is that prophecy that says, "And none considers it, He 00:35:50.01\00:35:54.28 takes them away to avoid the the trials to come"? 00:35:54.32\00:35:58.52 You know what I'm talking about? 00:35:58.55\00:35:59.85 Some people are laid to rest and it's because God loves them. 00:35:59.89\00:36:03.06 "Blessed in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints." 00:36:03.09\00:36:05.69 And then even in Revelation it says, "Where the souls under the 00:36:05.73\00:36:08.73 altar rest, until the other fellow servants might be 00:36:08.76\00:36:13.30 martyred as you were." 00:36:13.34\00:36:14.67 So, you know, God sometimes lets people go to sleep so they won't 00:36:14.70\00:36:18.11 have to go through trials they can't handle. 00:36:18.14\00:36:19.81 Jëan: And I think the point that you mentioned, pastor, that you 00:36:19.84\00:36:21.48 look in scripture, whenever one of God's disciples faced a trial 00:36:21.51\00:36:25.68 and they stood for the right, they were always empowered to 00:36:25.71\00:36:28.05 handle that trial. 00:36:28.08\00:36:29.52 And of course, we have many martyrs who gave their life, 00:36:29.55\00:36:32.15 frail--you know, women who you might think, well, I don't think 00:36:32.19\00:36:35.16 they can handle trials, but yet they did, they became like a 00:36:35.19\00:36:38.69 lion in the face of persecution and had this holy boldness and 00:36:38.73\00:36:42.26 this peace and their life was such a testimony. 00:36:42.30\00:36:45.57 And when they gave their life there was this calmness--many 00:36:45.60\00:36:48.80 actually sang while being burned at the stake. 00:36:48.84\00:36:51.04 Now, that's humanly impossible, so God sustained them in 00:36:51.07\00:36:54.14 a miraculous way. 00:36:54.18\00:36:55.51 Doug: That's right. 00:36:55.54\00:36:56.85 Jëan: All right, thank you, David. 00:36:56.88\00:36:58.21 We have got Steve listening in Oregon. 00:36:58.25\00:37:00.05 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:37:00.08\00:37:02.45 Steve: Yeah, I've got recently got "The Days of Noah" DVD set 00:37:02.48\00:37:07.46 and I've watched it dozens of times and they have answered 00:37:07.49\00:37:11.53 numerous questions I've had been--I've been plagued by for 00:37:11.56\00:37:15.10 years, but one question's left me with--at the end of the--all 00:37:15.13\00:37:20.14 four DVDs, all of the main characters are on foot traveling 00:37:20.17\00:37:24.84 through the forest over hills and crossing streams, heading 00:37:24.87\00:37:28.11 towards one mountain top that is covered by a huge rainbow 00:37:28.14\00:37:33.88 colored, halo-looking cloud. 00:37:33.92\00:37:37.19 Is that the end of the days of Noah's story or is there another 00:37:37.22\00:37:42.49 DVD that finishes the production I can request? 00:37:42.52\00:37:46.70 Is that huge rainbow colored halo-type cloud the New 00:37:46.73\00:37:51.47 Jerusalem coming down? 00:37:51.50\00:37:53.47 I'm confused like, fireball-type asteroids are impacting 00:37:53.50\00:37:59.44 the earth. 00:37:59.47\00:38:00.84 Is it too late to be saved or should we be heading towards 00:38:00.88\00:38:04.71 this rainbow type thing? 00:38:04.75\00:38:07.58 Doug: Well, I--first of all, I was a contributor to that 00:38:07.62\00:38:11.79 DVD series. 00:38:11.82\00:38:13.12 We did not produce it, it was produced by our good friends at 00:38:13.15\00:38:15.56 Layman Ministries and Jeff Reich. 00:38:15.59\00:38:17.86 And I'm pretty sure that what's implied there is that they are 00:38:17.89\00:38:22.40 going towards a place of safety and it's just prior to the 00:38:22.43\00:38:26.70 coming of the Lord. 00:38:26.74\00:38:28.07 You don't need to worry about where to run right now because 00:38:28.10\00:38:32.34 when that day comes, just like a pillar of fire led God's people 00:38:32.37\00:38:36.91 through the wilderness, angels are going to guide us during 00:38:36.95\00:38:39.58 that time. 00:38:39.61\00:38:40.85 And says He'll give His angels charge over you to keep you in 00:38:40.88\00:38:43.85 all your ways, 1000 may fall at your side, 10,000 at your right 00:38:43.89\00:38:47.76 hand, but it will not come near you. 00:38:47.79\00:38:49.86 So, God is going to preserve His people. 00:38:49.89\00:38:52.19 I never worry about, you know, am I going to know where to run 00:38:52.23\00:38:54.83 and hide in the last days? 00:38:54.83\00:38:56.90 My concern is, I just want to be faithful day by day to be doing 00:38:56.93\00:39:00.07 what God wants me to do. 00:39:00.10\00:39:01.84 But thanks so much and I'll tell our friends at Layman's 00:39:01.87\00:39:06.11 Ministries that you've been blessed by the series. 00:39:06.14\00:39:09.11 Jëan: Next call that we have is Linda listening in 00:39:09.14\00:39:11.28 West Virginia. 00:39:11.31\00:39:12.61 Linda, welcome to the program. 00:39:12.65\00:39:14.78 Linda: Thank you for taking my call. 00:39:14.82\00:39:18.59 Pastors, I want to tell you first of all, I really 00:39:18.62\00:39:21.92 appreciate y'all's ministry. 00:39:21.96\00:39:24.19 I have learned so much and I'm going on 74 and I've seen a lot 00:39:24.23\00:39:29.80 in my lifetime with--I call them my family, my aunt. 00:39:29.83\00:39:36.20 And I was wondering about demons because, my mom and my brother, 00:39:36.24\00:39:44.71 we went to my aunt's house and she was a pretty bad alcoholic 00:39:44.75\00:39:50.09 and she wanted to get saved on her deathbed, she had cancer, 00:39:50.12\00:39:52.89 bone cancer. 00:39:52.92\00:39:54.26 And mom took a couple of preachers, and this was when I 00:39:54.29\00:39:58.33 was 25 and I'm going 74 now, and when we got there the preachers 00:39:58.36\00:40:04.93 coming around with Bibles praying and her voice changed 00:40:04.97\00:40:07.70 and it was like a demon coming out of her. 00:40:07.74\00:40:10.01 Pastors, is that possible? 00:40:10.04\00:40:12.04 Because, I was there and I heard it. 00:40:12.07\00:40:14.58 Doug: It is possible, to answer your question. 00:40:14.61\00:40:17.11 And I don't know that every person struggling with 00:40:17.15\00:40:21.18 alcoholism is demon possession because the drug itself is a 00:40:21.22\00:40:24.99 very powerful thing and the devil, I'm sure, takes advantage 00:40:25.02\00:40:27.46 of that. 00:40:27.49\00:40:28.82 Jesus can save people from alcoholism. 00:40:28.86\00:40:31.63 I've seen it, you know, many, many times. 00:40:31.66\00:40:34.40 And you know, you can read in Mark chapter 16. 00:40:34.46\00:40:38.27 Jesus said in verse 16, "He that believes and is baptized will be 00:40:38.30\00:40:42.54 saved; he that does not will be condemned, these signs will 00:40:42.57\00:40:45.77 follow those who believe: in my name they will cast out devils; 00:40:45.81\00:40:49.38 and they will speak with new tongues; and they'll take up 00:40:49.41\00:40:51.51 serpents," meaning if, you know, if they get bit by a serpent, 00:40:51.55\00:40:54.32 it's not going to hurt them, "and if they drink anything 00:40:54.35\00:40:57.02 deadly, it will by no means hurt them; and they'll lay hands on 00:40:57.05\00:41:00.52 the sick, and they'll recover." 00:41:00.56\00:41:01.89 So, everything that Jesus lists here, the apostles did. 00:41:01.92\00:41:06.73 There's no listing of them being poisoned, but it may have 00:41:06.76\00:41:09.46 happened and then they survived it. 00:41:09.50\00:41:12.37 So, I do believe that the power of God is still there and we can 00:41:12.40\00:41:16.60 pray and ask God to set people free from sin and temptation, 00:41:16.64\00:41:20.51 and sometimes it may be a more direct demonic obsession 00:41:20.54\00:41:25.25 or possession. 00:41:25.28\00:41:26.58 Jëan: Well, yes, it's--just to add to that, pastor. 00:41:26.61\00:41:28.58 Like, it's very real. 00:41:28.62\00:41:29.92 I know you've been in Africa, you've done meetings, I've done 00:41:29.95\00:41:31.85 meetings in Africa, and you know, maybe we don't see it as 00:41:31.89\00:41:34.56 much in the US, although there are times where that happens 00:41:34.59\00:41:37.06 even here, but I remember one--in one occasion in 00:41:37.09\00:41:40.43 particular and just like what the lady described on the phone, 00:41:40.46\00:41:45.40 there was a spirit there, a demonic force, and everyone knew 00:41:45.43\00:41:48.64 it and the voice changed and kind of supernatural strength 00:41:48.67\00:41:52.61 and it's scary. 00:41:52.64\00:41:53.81 You can kind of feel the hair on the back of your neck. 00:41:53.84\00:41:55.38 So, the Bible says we don't wrestle against flesh and blood, 00:41:55.41\00:41:58.65 there are demonic forces out there. 00:41:58.68\00:42:00.58 Doug: Absolutely. 00:42:00.62\00:42:01.95 Jëan: Now, of course, God protects us. 00:42:01.98\00:42:03.28 We are grateful for that. 00:42:03.32\00:42:04.45 We don't have to walk around in fear, but I think that is 00:42:04.49\00:42:06.22 a warning. 00:42:06.25\00:42:07.46 We don't want to give ground to the devil. 00:42:07.49\00:42:08.79 Doug: Yep, absolutely. 00:42:08.82\00:42:10.49 Well, thank you, Linda. 00:42:10.53\00:42:11.83 I hope that helps a little bit. 00:42:11.86\00:42:13.40 And we got time for a couple more before our break. 00:42:13.43\00:42:15.03 Jëan: Yeah, we got Steve from California. 00:42:15.06\00:42:16.36 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:42:16.40\00:42:17.93 Steve: Thanks for taking my call. 00:42:17.97\00:42:19.30 So, I wonder if you could help me with a--verses 1 John chapter 00:42:19.33\00:42:23.44 2, verses 7 and 8, I was reading my Bible study this morning and 00:42:23.47\00:42:30.38 I'll just read you the first line from each of those verses 00:42:30.41\00:42:33.82 seems to be a contradiction. 00:42:33.85\00:42:35.15 It says in verse 7, "Brethren, I write no new commandment 00:42:35.18\00:42:39.65 to you." 00:42:39.69\00:42:40.99 And in verse 8 it says, "Again, a new commandment I write 00:42:41.02\00:42:44.13 to you." 00:42:44.16\00:42:45.49 I wonder if you can help explain it. 00:42:45.53\00:42:46.76 Doug: Yeah, well, sometimes in Hebrew writings they used some 00:42:46.80\00:42:52.90 irony where they would kind of juxtapose two thoughts that 00:42:52.93\00:42:57.64 sounded like their opposite. 00:42:57.67\00:42:58.97 Let me give you another example. 00:42:59.01\00:43:00.54 King Solomon said, "Do not answer a fool or you sound 00:43:00.58\00:43:05.95 like him." 00:43:05.98\00:43:07.32 Then he says immediately after that, "Answer a fool according 00:43:07.35\00:43:11.72 to his folly, or he'll be wise in his own eyes." 00:43:11.75\00:43:14.79 And you're thinking, well, make up your mind, answer him or 00:43:14.82\00:43:17.09 don't answer him? 00:43:17.13\00:43:18.46 And what he's basically saying is that no matter what you do, 00:43:18.49\00:43:23.50 you're not going to win when you're trying to communicate 00:43:23.53\00:43:25.30 with a fool. 00:43:25.33\00:43:26.67 And so, if you don't answer him, he thinks he's right; if you do 00:43:26.70\00:43:29.34 answer him, then you look like him. 00:43:29.37\00:43:31.01 Well, here John is doing something similar. 00:43:31.04\00:43:34.38 He's saying, "Don't forget the original commandments." 00:43:34.41\00:43:39.08 "That which you've had from the beginning. 00:43:39.11\00:43:41.65 It's the old commandment which is the word you've heard from 00:43:41.68\00:43:43.15 the beginning. 00:43:43.18\00:43:44.52 And again, a new commandment I write you." 00:43:44.55\00:43:45.85 So when he said, "I write no new commandment to you," it's 00:43:45.89\00:43:48.52 another way of his saying, "I'm not asking you to forget the 00:43:48.56\00:43:51.76 foundational commandments. 00:43:51.79\00:43:53.70 So, I'm not writing these new commandments to you to forget 00:43:53.73\00:43:55.93 the old ones." 00:43:55.96\00:43:57.27 But he says, "Then again, there's a new commandment which 00:43:57.30\00:43:59.57 is in Him, because darkness is passing away, and the true light 00:43:59.60\00:44:03.20 is shining." 00:44:03.24\00:44:04.54 In other words, I think he's saying that Christ came to 00:44:04.57\00:44:07.41 magnify the law and make it honorable. 00:44:07.44\00:44:10.05 Jesus didn't really take away the law, He showed that the 00:44:10.08\00:44:13.31 summary of the law is love. 00:44:13.35\00:44:15.75 Jëan: I think maybe another way to put it is, "The new 00:44:15.78\00:44:18.02 commandment that I'm telling you is the old commandment." 00:44:18.05\00:44:21.39 So, John is saying, you know, "If people are talking about a 00:44:21.42\00:44:23.86 new commandment, the reality is that new commandment is really 00:44:23.89\00:44:26.76 the old commandment that you read about to love God with all 00:44:26.80\00:44:29.40 your heart and love your neighbor as yourself." 00:44:29.43\00:44:31.40 Doug: Kind of like where Jesus said, "You've heard it said by 00:44:31.43\00:44:34.44 them of old," speaking of an old commandment, "that you shall not 00:44:34.47\00:44:37.91 commit adultery." 00:44:37.94\00:44:39.27 And then He said, "But I say unto you do not look on a woman 00:44:39.31\00:44:42.94 to lust in your heart." 00:44:42.98\00:44:44.28 So, did He do away with the old commandment? 00:44:44.31\00:44:45.91 No, you're not supposed to commit adultery, but He gave a 00:44:45.95\00:44:47.92 new insight. 00:44:47.95\00:44:49.28 It goes beyond the action. 00:44:49.32\00:44:50.79 It includes the attitude. 00:44:50.82\00:44:52.39 I think John's doing the same thing here. 00:44:52.42\00:44:55.12 So, thanks. 00:44:55.16\00:44:56.49 I hope that helps a little bit, Steven. 00:44:56.52\00:44:57.83 And let's see, we move on to--who is it? 00:44:57.86\00:45:00.33 Rosemary? 00:45:00.36\00:45:01.63 Jëan: Yeah, Rosemary, welcome to the program. 00:45:01.66\00:45:03.77 California. 00:45:03.80\00:45:05.40 Rosemary: Hello. 00:45:05.43\00:45:06.77 Hi, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:45:06.80\00:45:09.57 I have a question regarding witnessing. 00:45:09.60\00:45:13.94 Now, I have a passion for witnessing. 00:45:13.98\00:45:17.08 I really want to witness to my neighbors, the new city I 00:45:17.11\00:45:20.08 moved in. 00:45:20.12\00:45:21.42 But recently, I was--from discouraged from passing 00:45:21.45\00:45:26.29 out pamphlets. 00:45:26.32\00:45:27.76 A person told me that that's not a good way to witness, that 00:45:27.79\00:45:32.86 they'll be thrown away, people don't read these days. 00:45:32.89\00:45:35.80 What is the better way to witness if I'm discouraged to 00:45:35.83\00:45:39.03 witness using pamphlets? 00:45:39.07\00:45:43.57 Doug: Well, people do still read pamphlets. 00:45:43.61\00:45:45.94 I've met folks that have had their lives changed by reading 00:45:45.97\00:45:48.81 books and literature and little "Amazing Facts" prints and sells 00:45:48.84\00:45:52.81 thousands of these pocket--"Amazing Facts Tracks," 00:45:52.85\00:45:55.85 we call them. 00:45:55.88\00:45:57.19 They're little pocket-sized pamphlets that they just cost a 00:45:57.22\00:45:59.35 few cents a piece and people can give them out and they'll talk 00:45:59.39\00:46:01.62 about salvation and different present truth. 00:46:01.66\00:46:03.76 It's true. 00:46:03.79\00:46:05.13 It's like fishing, you know, you reel in the line empty a lot. 00:46:05.16\00:46:09.13 When you're passing out literature, you need to just 00:46:09.16\00:46:11.40 figure that, you know, maybe 1 out of 50 will read it, but that 00:46:11.43\00:46:16.24 1 out of 50 that reads it, it changes their life in some way. 00:46:16.27\00:46:20.71 So, you're scattering seed, not every seed you scatter is going 00:46:20.74\00:46:23.28 to sprout. 00:46:23.31\00:46:25.28 And, you know, I'm guessing that some of the people that are 00:46:25.31\00:46:27.85 discouraging you, they may even be folks in the church. 00:46:27.88\00:46:31.22 And I would ask them, "Well, what are you doing to witness?" 00:46:31.25\00:46:34.52 You know, you're better doing something that has minimal 00:46:34.56\00:46:37.13 results than doing nothing with no results, and you're better 00:46:37.16\00:46:41.20 doing something wrong than doing nothing very well. 00:46:41.23\00:46:44.23 And there's a lot of folks that criticize witnessing efforts and 00:46:44.27\00:46:46.97 they're not doing anything. 00:46:47.00\00:46:48.64 But you know, today, you know, we're using media. 00:46:48.67\00:46:51.81 Of course, we use publishing still at "Amazing Facts," but we 00:46:51.84\00:46:54.48 also use media. 00:46:54.51\00:46:55.84 The internet is very effective. 00:46:55.88\00:46:57.68 Tech people are texting using WhatsApp. 00:46:57.71\00:46:59.75 All kinds of ways to witness these days. 00:46:59.78\00:47:02.42 And-- 00:47:02.45\00:47:03.79 Jëan: Even Facebook. 00:47:03.82\00:47:05.12 Doug: Yeah, that's right. 00:47:05.15\00:47:06.49 Jëan: People are posting, you know, encouraging statements 00:47:06.52\00:47:07.82 or verses. 00:47:07.86\00:47:09.19 Yeah, sure. 00:47:09.22\00:47:10.53 Doug: So--but literature is not--it's still a medium for 00:47:10.56\00:47:12.46 communication, so you can still do that. 00:47:12.49\00:47:15.13 Jëan: All right, very good. 00:47:15.16\00:47:16.50 Next caller that we have, Doug listening in California. 00:47:16.53\00:47:18.53 Doug, welcome to the program. 00:47:18.57\00:47:19.87 Doug: I'm Doug, I'm listening. 00:47:19.90\00:47:21.24 Jëan: I know, you're right there. 00:47:21.27\00:47:22.57 Caller Doug: Hi, Doug, you're on the air. 00:47:22.60\00:47:24.67 Doug: Hi. 00:47:24.71\00:47:26.01 So, I have a question. 00:47:26.04\00:47:27.38 Once you accept Jesus Christ in your heart, do you--do you need 00:47:27.41\00:47:33.68 to be baptized? 00:47:33.72\00:47:35.88 Doug: Well, if you've never been baptized, once you accept Jesus 00:47:35.92\00:47:40.06 you don't necessarily need to get baptized immediately, 00:47:40.09\00:47:42.82 because Christ said in Matthew 28, "Go therefore, teach 00:47:42.86\00:47:46.83 all nations." 00:47:46.86\00:47:48.16 So, prior to baptism there should be some teaching where 00:47:48.20\00:47:52.47 a person understands the foundational basics of, what 00:47:52.50\00:47:55.74 does it mean now to be a Christian, I've accepted Jesus's 00:47:55.77\00:47:58.04 sacrifice, and then be baptized, and then there's more teaching 00:47:58.07\00:48:02.28 that comes afterward. 00:48:02.31\00:48:03.71 Jëan: You know, we do have a study guide talking 00:48:03.75\00:48:05.15 about baptism. 00:48:05.18\00:48:06.48 It'll answer this question for you. 00:48:06.51\00:48:07.85 It's called "Purity and Power," and just call and ask for that. 00:48:07.88\00:48:10.22 It's 800-835-6747. 00:48:10.25\00:48:13.52 Ask for that study guide, "Purity and Power," or dial 00:48:13.56\00:48:16.39 pound 250 and we can send it to you that way as well. 00:48:16.42\00:48:20.26 All right, the next caller that we have is Paul in Australia. 00:48:20.30\00:48:23.37 Paul, welcome to the program. 00:48:23.40\00:48:25.40 Paul: Hi, good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:48:25.43\00:48:28.10 Doug: Evening. 00:48:28.14\00:48:29.44 Thanks for calling. 00:48:29.47\00:48:30.81 Paul: So, my question is this. 00:48:30.84\00:48:32.31 Genesis chapter 4, verse 16 to 17. 00:48:32.34\00:48:37.31 They say that Cain has killed Abel and then they went out from 00:48:37.35\00:48:40.45 the presence of the Lord and marry his wife. 00:48:40.48\00:48:44.15 And from that time, from that period, it's just four people, 00:48:44.19\00:48:49.12 Adam and Eve and then you get Cain and Abel, and Abel is dead. 00:48:49.16\00:48:53.36 Where did Cain find wife from? 00:48:53.40\00:48:57.67 Doug: Yeah, that's a good question. 00:48:57.70\00:48:59.70 A lot of people wonder about that. 00:48:59.73\00:49:01.97 They start reading through the Bible--and if you go a little 00:49:02.00\00:49:05.77 further, you may not have read this yet, but if you read in 00:49:05.81\00:49:09.88 Genesis chapter 5 it says that Adam had sons and daughters. 00:49:09.91\00:49:18.09 Genesis 5, verse 4, "After he begot Seth, the days of Adam 00:49:18.12\00:49:22.76 were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters," 00:49:22.79\00:49:26.76 probably quite a few. 00:49:26.80\00:49:28.20 So, when it talks about Cain and Abel and one murdering the 00:49:28.23\00:49:31.20 other, it doesn't say they're the only children Adam and 00:49:31.23\00:49:34.64 Eve had. 00:49:34.67\00:49:35.97 Those were probably the two oldest boys and they may have 00:49:36.00\00:49:37.97 been the only ones at that time, but Adam and Eve had also had 00:49:38.01\00:49:42.81 sons and daughters and they married their sisters. 00:49:42.84\00:49:46.65 I know that always seems a little odd to us, but keep in 00:49:46.68\00:49:48.78 mind, Abraham married his half-sister and Jacob married 00:49:48.82\00:49:52.25 his first cousin and it was not odd. 00:49:52.29\00:49:54.99 Both Adam and Eve, they were brother and sister, if you think 00:49:55.02\00:49:57.83 about it. 00:49:57.86\00:49:59.16 And so, that's what happened. 00:49:59.19\00:50:01.66 And by the way, again, that's Genesis 5, verse 4, they had 00:50:01.70\00:50:06.30 sons and daughters, many others. 00:50:06.33\00:50:08.70 Jëan: Okay, maybe time for one more. 00:50:08.74\00:50:10.31 Richard in Michigan. 00:50:10.34\00:50:11.64 We have about a minute, Richard. 00:50:11.67\00:50:13.91 Richard: Okay, I want to know if I've lost my salvation. 00:50:13.94\00:50:18.28 I got saved, got baptized, and in Revelation it says he'll spew 00:50:18.31\00:50:23.05 you out of your--His mouth if you're not doing what he wants. 00:50:23.08\00:50:27.79 Doug: I don't believe you've grieved away the Holy Spirit or 00:50:27.82\00:50:29.82 you wouldn't be calling and anxious about your salvation. 00:50:29.86\00:50:33.36 There's a free book that you can call and ask for and just ask 00:50:33.40\00:50:37.00 for Pastor Doug's book on the unpardonable sin. 00:50:37.03\00:50:39.60 I think it'll bring you some comfort and also some knowledge 00:50:39.63\00:50:43.30 about, you know, what does that mean? 00:50:43.34\00:50:46.84 So, have faith, Richard. 00:50:46.88\00:50:50.31 The Bible says, "Where there's life, there's hope." 00:50:50.35\00:50:52.08 You're alive. 00:50:52.11\00:50:53.42 Reach out for that door of mercy and start following the Lord. 00:50:53.45\00:50:56.92 Jëan: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:50:56.95\00:51:00.86 Just ask for the book. 00:51:00.89\00:51:02.19 It's called-- 00:51:02.22\00:51:03.56 Doug: It's on the unpardonable sin. 00:51:03.59\00:51:04.89 Jëan: The unpardonable sin. 00:51:04.93\00:51:06.26 I know we have another one called, "Rescue From Above," 00:51:06.29\00:51:07.60 but that's the one on unpardonable sin. 00:51:07.60\00:51:10.30 Doug: Well, listening friends, just so you understand how this 00:51:10.33\00:51:13.03 works, we are on hundreds of stations around the country and 00:51:13.07\00:51:16.30 we are on satellite radio. 00:51:16.34\00:51:18.21 All these cars with satellite radios are getting this 00:51:18.24\00:51:20.31 broadcast, they operate on different clocks. 00:51:20.34\00:51:22.88 We're going to say farewell. 00:51:22.91\00:51:24.21 God bless to our friends listening on satellite. 00:51:24.25\00:51:26.18 The rest of you, stay by for a minute. 00:51:26.21\00:51:27.85 We're going to today's broadcast. 00:51:36.99\00:51:39.66 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:51:39.69\00:51:43.20 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:51:43.23\00:51:47.50 a faith based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:51:47.54\00:51:51.74 announcer: "Amazing Facts Changed Lives." 00:51:55.54\00:52:00.28 male: I met my ex-wife, and her family were real big into 00:52:03.42\00:52:06.55 drugs and it started out with them wanting me to go to the 00:52:06.59\00:52:10.33 doctor to help get them drugs. 00:52:10.36\00:52:12.19 And, you know, I'm noticing they're going to the doctor, 00:52:12.23\00:52:14.96 they're coming back with, like, 60 pills and they're selling 00:52:15.00\00:52:17.33 these pills for like $1000 and I'm thinking, wow, this is a lot 00:52:17.37\00:52:22.04 of money I'm giving these people, so I'm just going to 00:52:22.07\00:52:24.17 start selling it myself. 00:52:24.21\00:52:25.81 The problem with that was--and we had all this money, but we 00:52:25.84\00:52:29.61 was absolutely miserable. 00:52:29.64\00:52:31.31 She would go out and sleep with other guys to get drugs, and 00:52:31.35\00:52:35.88 that ended my marriage, but during this time I have to get a 00:52:35.92\00:52:39.49 job to build back up to where I was at, to open my shop again. 00:52:39.52\00:52:43.06 So, I get a job at Food City and when I get this job at Food 00:52:43.09\00:52:46.90 City, there's my wife now, Rebecca, she's a cashier there. 00:52:46.93\00:52:51.07 And when I walk in, she's the most beautiful girl I've ever 00:52:51.10\00:52:54.04 seen in my life. 00:52:54.07\00:52:55.40 I was like, man, I could never have a girl like that. 00:52:55.44\00:52:58.77 Wow, she's so beautiful. 00:52:58.81\00:53:00.18 But as I'm working with her, she's actually kind of mean to 00:53:00.21\00:53:03.68 me and she's saying, "I don't want anything to do with you. 00:53:03.71\00:53:07.42 Get away from me," and stuff like that. 00:53:07.45\00:53:09.42 But, you know, I just keep being nice to her and I keep trying to 00:53:09.45\00:53:12.59 give her my phone number and it's around Christmas Eve, we'd 00:53:12.62\00:53:16.79 just been dating for a little while and moved in together. 00:53:16.83\00:53:19.53 My ex-wife shows up with my three children that I had by her 00:53:19.56\00:53:24.10 and she's like, "Here's your kids, here's their birth 00:53:24.13\00:53:26.47 certificates, here's their social security cards. 00:53:26.50\00:53:28.80 I'm done." 00:53:28.84\00:53:30.17 And we're starting a family. 00:53:30.21\00:53:31.51 We have--already have three kids. 00:53:31.54\00:53:33.58 During this time we spent the next year watching nothing but 00:53:33.61\00:53:37.15 "Amazing Facts" on YouTube. 00:53:37.18\00:53:39.11 I didn't even know they even had a website at this time. 00:53:39.15\00:53:41.32 I just knew that this little guy on YouTube was super smart, was 00:53:41.35\00:53:44.99 teaching Bible, and I wanted to follow him. 00:53:45.02\00:53:48.52 I wanted to be a Christian. 00:53:48.56\00:53:49.86 I gave my life to God now because of these truths that I'm 00:53:49.89\00:53:52.99 learning from Doug Batchelor. 00:53:53.03\00:53:54.76 Just because Doug taught it didn't make me real sure about 00:53:54.83\00:53:57.73 going to this church. 00:53:57.77\00:53:59.37 I really didn't want anything to do with it, but I'm--I called 00:53:59.40\00:54:01.80 the guy up and I'm telling him, and I'm not very nice about 00:54:01.84\00:54:05.21 it, actually. 00:54:05.24\00:54:06.57 I'm telling him, "Look, we was thinking about coming to 00:54:06.61\00:54:08.21 your church." 00:54:08.24\00:54:09.48 And he's really nice and he's like, "Well, you're more than 00:54:09.51\00:54:11.91 welcome to. 00:54:11.95\00:54:13.28 We'd like to have you come." 00:54:13.31\00:54:14.62 And I'm like, "Well, hold on. 00:54:14.65\00:54:15.98 I'm going to lay down some ground rules." 00:54:16.02\00:54:17.42 I'm telling him, I said, "Look here, I'm covered in tattoos and 00:54:17.45\00:54:20.46 I'm a tattoo artist," and he don't say, "Well," you know, 00:54:20.49\00:54:23.69 "wow, I didn't know all that. 00:54:23.73\00:54:25.06 Don't come to my church." 00:54:25.09\00:54:26.39 He says, "You're more than welcome. 00:54:26.43\00:54:27.76 We would love to have you. 00:54:27.76\00:54:29.20 Please come." 00:54:29.23\00:54:31.53 He asked me what I want to do and I said, "Well, I want 00:54:31.57\00:54:34.34 to preach." 00:54:34.37\00:54:35.67 I said, "I have all these truths. 00:54:35.70\00:54:37.14 I have all this knowledge, stuff I'd never known before, stuff, 00:54:37.17\00:54:40.54 if I'd had when I was younger that would have been life 00:54:40.58\00:54:42.98 changing to me." 00:54:43.01\00:54:44.71 I said, "I got to share this with the world." 00:54:44.75\00:54:47.48 I said, "I want to preach. 00:54:47.52\00:54:48.85 I want to teach." 00:54:48.88\00:54:50.19 He gives me the book, says, "Study that." 00:54:50.22\00:54:52.35 Well, now that I'm a Bible worker I'm able to go reach 00:54:52.39\00:54:54.79 people that most of the normal churches wouldn't even bother to 00:54:54.82\00:54:58.83 even speak to. 00:54:58.86\00:55:00.26 I'm able to go out and reach the people who have lived the life 00:55:00.30\00:55:03.83 that I've lived. 00:55:03.87\00:55:05.20 I'm able to let them know that I am like you. 00:55:05.23\00:55:07.97 I've been there. 00:55:08.00\00:55:09.30 I've done that. 00:55:09.34\00:55:10.64 I want to show you what my life is like now. 00:55:10.67\00:55:13.01 I want to teach you this Bible. 00:55:13.04\00:55:14.78 I want to show you what Jesus can do for you. 00:55:14.81\00:55:17.31 It's not too late. 00:55:17.35\00:55:19.31 ¤¤¤ 00:55:21.85\00:55:24.79 ¤¤¤ 00:55:27.26\00:55:30.76 Jëan: Hello, friends, and welcome back to 00:55:30.79\00:55:32.09 "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:32.13\00:55:34.10 We have just a few minutes to answer your email 00:55:34.10\00:55:35.90 Bible questions. 00:55:35.93\00:55:37.27 If you'd like to send us an email Bible question, you can 00:55:37.30\00:55:40.00 send it to BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:40.04\00:55:43.81 That's BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:43.84\00:55:47.84 Pastor, I got a first question from Emily. 00:55:47.88\00:55:49.71 She says, "Why did Jesus have to be tortured in order to 00:55:49.74\00:55:53.45 save mankind? 00:55:53.48\00:55:54.82 Couldn't He have just died?" 00:55:54.85\00:55:56.52 Doug: Well, no, because the penalty for sin, while it is 00:55:56.55\00:56:00.26 death, it is not just death, it is suffering and death. 00:56:00.29\00:56:03.12 Every man is rewarded according to his works. 00:56:03.16\00:56:05.33 Jesus not only took the death penalty, He took the pain that 00:56:05.36\00:56:10.10 we all deserve for our bad behavior. 00:56:10.13\00:56:13.50 There are varying degrees of suffering that are going to be 00:56:13.54\00:56:16.97 meted out according to people's sins and Jesus took all of that. 00:56:17.01\00:56:20.94 So, He took not only death, He took the suffering and 00:56:20.98\00:56:23.98 the death. 00:56:24.01\00:56:25.35 Jëan: Okay. 00:56:25.38\00:56:26.68 We have Wilma asking, "In Genesis chapter 1, verse 14, it 00:56:26.72\00:56:29.08 says God created night and day, but then in Revelation 21:25 it 00:56:29.12\00:56:34.06 says that there is no night in the New Jerusalem." 00:56:34.09\00:56:37.46 Doug: Well, it--and it says that there's no night there because 00:56:37.49\00:56:41.00 you get the presence of God and the Bible says that God is 00:56:41.03\00:56:44.90 light, in Him is no darkness. 00:56:44.93\00:56:47.20 Even during the Creation folks say, "Why did God say, 'Let 00:56:47.24\00:56:50.61 there be light,' and He hasn't made the sun until the 00:56:50.64\00:56:52.67 fourth day?" 00:56:52.71\00:56:54.01 Well, it's because that light was coming from the very 00:56:54.04\00:56:56.01 presence of God. 00:56:56.04\00:56:57.38 So, if God is dwelling in the New Jerusalem, there is no night 00:56:57.41\00:57:00.78 there in the city, but there is still day and night. 00:57:00.82\00:57:04.39 Isaiah tells us even in the new earth, there's still day 00:57:04.42\00:57:06.42 and night. 00:57:06.45\00:57:07.76 Says the night is brighter than the day is now and the day is 00:57:07.79\00:57:10.46 seven times brighter than it is now. 00:57:10.49\00:57:13.03 So, yeah, there will be still a sun, there'll still be days. 00:57:13.06\00:57:17.53 Jëan: Okay. 00:57:17.57\00:57:18.90 In Mark chapter 12:26 Jesus said the God of Abraham, Isaac and 00:57:18.93\00:57:22.37 Jacob is the God of the living, not the dead. 00:57:22.40\00:57:25.44 So, does this mean that they were taken to heaven? 00:57:25.47\00:57:28.74 Doug: No, it simply means that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, 00:57:28.78\00:57:31.71 they're sleeping. 00:57:31.75\00:57:33.08 A person asleep is not dead. 00:57:33.11\00:57:34.62 They have eternal life. 00:57:34.65\00:57:36.18 They are going to be in the Resurrection. 00:57:36.22\00:57:37.72 Jesus refers to them as living beings that still exist, because 00:57:37.75\00:57:42.09 they're just resting, waiting for the Resurrection along with 00:57:42.12\00:57:44.73 myriads of others who are saved. 00:57:44.76\00:57:47.60 We got a book on that, "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:57:47.66\00:57:49.76 How do they get that? 00:57:49.80\00:57:51.13 Jëan: That's right. 00:57:51.17\00:57:52.47 Just call and ask. 00:57:52.50\00:57:53.84 It's 800-835-6747. 00:57:53.87\00:57:55.37 And again, you can ask for that book, "Are the Dead 00:57:55.40\00:57:57.31 Really Dead?" 00:57:57.34\00:57:58.57 and we'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks or 00:57:58.61\00:58:00.81 just dial pound 250 on your smartphone and you can get 00:58:00.84\00:58:04.81 that--get it that way as well. 00:58:04.85\00:58:06.65 Doug: Well, thank you, friends. 00:58:06.68\00:58:08.02 Don't forget. 00:58:08.05\00:58:09.35 Check out amazingfacts.org. 00:58:09.38\00:58:10.72 We have a plethora of resources there. 00:58:10.75\00:58:12.99 God bless. 00:58:13.02\00:58:14.36 We'll study again together next week. 00:58:14.39\00:58:15.76 male announcer: "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:17.53\00:58:19.46 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.49\00:58:23.13
