¤¤¤ 00:00:01.10\00:00:02.96 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.47 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted; 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.70 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.41 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.44\00:00:16.34 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.38\00:00:19.68 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate 00:00:19.71\00:00:23.85 and practical answer to all your Bible questions. 00:00:23.89\00:00:28.36 This broadcast is a previously-recorded episode. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.19 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.80 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.83\00:00:38.37 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.40\00:00:43.71 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.88 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.91\00:00:49.71 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends. 00:00:49.74\00:00:51.05 Would you like to hear an Amazing Fact? 00:00:51.08\00:00:53.55 On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 00:00:53.58\00:00:59.19 departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, heading 00:00:59.22\00:01:02.62 to Beijing, China, with 227 passengers and 12 crew aboard. 00:01:02.66\00:01:07.83 About 38 minutes after takeoff, while over the South China Sea, 00:01:07.86\00:01:11.83 the Boeing 777 aircraft dropped from air traffic control radar. 00:01:11.87\00:01:16.74 The Malaysian military picked up the aircraft 17 minutes later, 00:01:16.77\00:01:20.44 observing that it had attempted a nearly complete U-turn 00:01:20.48\00:01:24.25 but there was no response from the cockpit. 00:01:24.28\00:01:26.58 After flying back over Malaysia, the jet mysteriously turned 00:01:26.61\00:01:30.29 and eventually disappeared from radar as it headed south 00:01:30.32\00:01:34.09 into the most remote section of the Indian Ocean. 00:01:34.12\00:01:37.13 The disappearance of Flight 370 triggered a massive 00:01:37.16\00:01:40.90 multi-international search by air and sea in Asia 00:01:40.93\00:01:44.37 and the southern Indian Ocean that's estimated to have covered 00:01:44.40\00:01:47.67 some 46,000 square miles. 00:01:47.70\00:01:50.71 The search that began in 2014 was finally concluded on June 9, 00:01:50.74\00:01:56.31 2018, costing an estimated $160 million, 00:01:56.34\00:02:01.82 making it the longest and most expensive search in history. 00:02:01.85\00:02:05.79 In 2015, a few pieces of debris believed to be from the plane 00:02:05.82\00:02:10.36 washed up on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, 00:02:10.39\00:02:13.40 confirming it had crashed into the sea. 00:02:13.43\00:02:16.16 Still, the plane's location, black box, 00:02:16.20\00:02:19.43 or none of the passengers were ever found, 00:02:19.47\00:02:22.07 nor did they ever discover the reason for the disaster. 00:02:22.10\00:02:26.31 You know, that just--that's heart-wrenching when you think 00:02:26.34\00:02:29.18 all those people's lives that were shattered and no answers. 00:02:29.21\00:02:36.35 And there was actually years before--a year and a half before 00:02:36.38\00:02:39.05 they found any debris and they, you know, there are all kinds of 00:02:39.09\00:02:42.02 conspiracies and--had it been hijacked or was it 00:02:42.06\00:02:46.39 a blackmailing plot, and, as I just said, it was 00:02:46.43\00:02:51.10 heart-wrenching for the families involved. 00:02:51.13\00:02:53.44 But you look at all of the time and the money 00:02:53.47\00:02:56.24 that was spent searching for the lost. 00:02:56.27\00:02:58.74 Jean Ross: You know, it's important for them, whenever 00:02:58.77\00:03:02.18 these disasters occur, especially in aviation, 00:03:02.21\00:03:03.98 they want to find out the cause of what caused the accident so 00:03:04.01\00:03:06.41 that they can learn from that. 00:03:06.45\00:03:08.42 They can modify things, sometimes they have to change 00:03:08.45\00:03:10.05 things related to the plane. 00:03:10.09\00:03:11.69 In this case, was all of that money and time, they come up 00:03:11.72\00:03:14.92 with maybe theories but they don't have any concrete evidence 00:03:14.96\00:03:18.79 to support an idea, and so they haven't learned 00:03:18.83\00:03:22.06 from that experience. 00:03:22.10\00:03:23.50 And to think about it, the amount of money and the amount 00:03:23.53\00:03:25.70 of time--well, you remember, I remember it well, when the plane 00:03:25.73\00:03:27.84 went missing and everyone was pretty confident at first 00:03:27.87\00:03:30.94 with the modern technology and with the satellites and 00:03:30.97\00:03:34.31 being able to trace things, they--everyone thought they'd 00:03:34.34\00:03:36.38 find the plane, but it just kept going on and on. 00:03:36.41\00:03:39.15 Doug: And the black box, it's, you know, developed--it is 00:03:39.18\00:03:41.62 extremely--it's indestructible, virtually, and it emits a 00:03:41.65\00:03:45.65 locating beacon and--but it was such a remote place and they 00:03:45.69\00:03:51.63 think so deep they never found it. 00:03:51.66\00:03:54.56 But it makes me think about, you know, all that time and energy 00:03:54.56\00:03:57.30 spent to save the lost, but it wasn't really the most expensive 00:03:57.33\00:04:01.50 search because the Bible tells us about 00:04:01.54\00:04:04.37 the most expensive search. 00:04:04.41\00:04:06.44 The most expensive search cost the most expensive thing and 00:04:06.47\00:04:09.68 that would be the life of the Creator. 00:04:09.71\00:04:11.48 Nothing's more valuable than that. 00:04:11.51\00:04:13.11 And if you say you've got a mountain of diamonds, what's 00:04:13.15\00:04:14.92 worth more, a mountain of diamonds or the one who can make 00:04:14.95\00:04:16.75 a mountain of diamonds? 00:04:16.79\00:04:18.59 So, the Lord sent His Son into the world to seek and 00:04:18.62\00:04:23.09 to save the lost. 00:04:23.12\00:04:24.46 By the way, that's Luke 19, verse 9 and 10. 00:04:24.49\00:04:27.36 Jesus said, and this is in the story of Zacchaeus: 00:04:27.40\00:04:30.57 "TODAY SALVATION HAS COME TO HIS HOUSE, BECAUSE HE 00:04:30.60\00:04:33.90 IS ALSO A SON OF ABRAHAM; FOR THE SON OF MAN 00:04:33.94\00:04:37.01 HAS COME TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THAT WHICH WAS LOST." 00:04:37.04\00:04:40.31 And then in chapter 15 of Luke, Jesus said in verse 4: 00:04:40.71\00:04:45.21 "WHAT MAN OF YOU, HAVING A HUNDRED SHEEP, IF HE LOSES 00:04:45.25\00:04:47.88 ONE OF THEM, DOES NOT LEAVE THE NINETY-NINE 00:04:47.92\00:04:50.65 IN THE WILDERNESS, 00:04:50.69\00:04:52.02 AND GO AFTER THE ONE THAT IS LOST UNTIL HE FINDS IT? 00:04:52.05\00:04:54.82 AND WHEN HE FINDS IT, 00:04:54.86\00:04:56.42 HE LAYS IT ON HIS SHOULDERS, REJOICING." 00:04:56.46\00:04:59.86 And this is how desperately the Lord yearns to redeem 00:04:59.89\00:05:04.80 His lost children. 00:05:04.83\00:05:06.87 Jean: Think about the amazing thing about the plan of 00:05:06.90\00:05:09.10 redemption, it cost so much and yet so many people spur 00:05:09.14\00:05:13.51 this great gift, even though it's at infinite cost and, 00:05:13.54\00:05:16.41 of course, we have to respond, the price has been paid 00:05:16.44\00:05:18.95 but by faith we need to receive that gift of salvation. 00:05:18.98\00:05:21.98 We have a book that's called, "THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN." 00:05:22.02\00:05:24.09 What do we do to benefit from this great seek and save, 00:05:24.12\00:05:28.02 this mercy mission from heaven? 00:05:28.06\00:05:30.06 We'll be happy to send this to anyone. 00:05:30.09\00:05:31.96 Just call and ask, "THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN." 00:05:31.99\00:05:33.83 That's our free gift today. 00:05:33.86\00:05:35.30 Call: 800-835-6747. 00:05:35.33\00:05:37.73 Ask for Offer number 102, and we'll 00:05:37.77\00:05:40.80 be happy to send it to you anywhere here in North America. 00:05:40.84\00:05:43.00 If you're outside of the US, we want to encourage you 00:05:43.04\00:05:45.34 to go to our website, just AmazingFacts.org, 00:05:45.37\00:05:48.81 and you'll be able to read the book right there online. 00:05:48.84\00:05:51.41 Well, we have many folks lined up with their calls, 00:05:51.45\00:05:54.12 Pastor Doug, but let's start with prayer and then 00:05:54.15\00:05:55.45 we'll go to the phone lines. 00:05:55.48\00:05:56.85 Doug: Yes. 00:05:56.89\00:05:58.19 Jean: Dear Father, we thank You once again that we have this 00:05:58.22\00:05:59.82 opportunity to study Your Word together and, Lord, we ask Your 00:05:59.85\00:06:02.12 blessing upon this program. 00:06:02.16\00:06:04.49 Guide us into a clear and full understanding of the Bible 00:06:04.53\00:06:07.40 as we study together, in Jesus's name, amen. 00:06:07.46\00:06:10.17 Doug: Amen. 00:06:10.20\00:06:12.10 Jean: Well, we're going to go first to Debbie in Canada. 00:06:12.13\00:06:14.67 Debbie, welcome to the program. 00:06:14.70\00:06:16.00 You're on the air. 00:06:16.04\00:06:17.57 Debbie: Hi, Pastors, how are you? 00:06:17.61\00:06:18.91 Doug: Doing great. How are you? 00:06:18.94\00:06:20.94 Debbie: I'm very well, thank you. 00:06:20.98\00:06:22.81 I have a question and it's about when Moses was told that 00:06:22.84\00:06:28.02 he was not allowed to cross over to the Promised Land. 00:06:28.05\00:06:31.09 Now, in Deuteronomy 3:26 and 4:21 it says the Lord was angry 00:06:31.12\00:06:36.29 with him, but we have a debate going on, on the YouTube, 00:06:36.32\00:06:40.30 and there's three of us that think three different things and 00:06:40.33\00:06:44.30 was wondering if you could tell us which--well, not so much 00:06:44.33\00:06:47.44 which one is right but why he wasn't allowed to cross over? 00:06:47.47\00:06:51.64 Doug: I hope you'll all still be friends after I share my 00:06:51.67\00:06:53.58 answer and I could be totally-- 00:06:53.61\00:06:55.11 Debbie: [laughing] Oh, we will be. 00:06:55.14\00:06:56.78 Doug: All right, so you're talking about when it says: 00:06:56.81\00:06:59.25 "THE LORD WAS ANGRY WITH ME ON YOUR ACCOUNT, 00:06:59.28\00:07:01.15 AND WOULD NOT LISTEN TO ME. 00:07:01.18\00:07:02.82 SO THE LORD SAID, 'ENOUGH OF THAT! 00:07:02.85\00:07:04.42 SPEAK TO ME NO MORE OF THIS MATTER.'" 00:07:04.45\00:07:06.09 So he was pleading that he could physically lead the people 00:07:06.12\00:07:08.56 into the Promised Land. 00:07:08.59\00:07:10.76 And so are you wondering why was the Lord angry? 00:07:10.79\00:07:13.19 Debbie: Yes, what was He--like, we--one of us are 00:07:13.23\00:07:16.73 saying it's because he killed the Egyptian soldier. 00:07:16.77\00:07:19.43 One of us are saying because he broke the first set of 00:07:19.47\00:07:22.17 Commandments, and the third one is saying because He told him 00:07:22.20\00:07:25.14 to speak to the rock and, instead, Moses struck the rock. 00:07:25.17\00:07:29.14 Doug: Yeah, and that's a correct answer is in Numbers 20, 00:07:29.18\00:07:33.92 verse 12, it says: "THE LORD SPOKE TO MOSES AND AARON, 00:07:33.95\00:07:37.75 SAID, 'BECAUSE YOU DID NOT BELIEVE ME, AND HALLOW ME 00:07:37.79\00:07:40.76 IN THE EYES OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, 00:07:40.79\00:07:42.39 THEREFORE YOU SHALL NOT BRING THIS ASSEMBLY 00:07:42.42\00:07:44.73 INTO THE LAND THAT I'VE GIVEN THEM.'" 00:07:44.76\00:07:46.59 God had told Moses to--they were pleading for water again. 00:07:46.63\00:07:50.17 He told Moses to go and to speak to the rock, but Moses got angry 00:07:50.20\00:07:54.37 and he struck the rock twice and said, 00:07:54.40\00:07:56.54 "Shall we bring you rebels water from the rock?" 00:07:56.57\00:08:00.24 And he basically made it sound like he and Aaron were doing it. 00:08:00.28\00:08:03.95 Took the glory for himself and he lost his temper. 00:08:03.98\00:08:06.58 And, you know, God said, "It's not you that's been leading them 00:08:06.61\00:08:12.69 all this time; it's Me." 00:08:12.72\00:08:14.96 And He says, "Because you didn't sanctify Me." 00:08:14.99\00:08:17.19 Now, to mitigate that, keep in mind why God said 00:08:17.23\00:08:19.66 you couldn't physically bring them into the Promised Land. 00:08:19.69\00:08:22.16 The Lord let Moses see the Promised Land 00:08:22.20\00:08:25.53 from the top of Mount Nebo. 00:08:25.57\00:08:27.97 He could look over and God enhanced his vision 00:08:28.00\00:08:30.94 where he saw it all. 00:08:30.97\00:08:32.81 And then God resurrected Moses and you read that in 00:08:32.84\00:08:34.78 Jude verse 9, so that he could witness their being led over. 00:08:34.81\00:08:39.48 So he saw it from heaven, with the Lord at his side. 00:08:39.51\00:08:42.18 So, it was a tough sentence but Moses also represents Jesus. 00:08:42.22\00:08:48.79 And when it says He was angry with me for your sake, that's 00:08:48.82\00:08:53.13 what it says regarding Christ. 00:08:53.16\00:08:55.76 Says that the Lord basically took the anger that belongs to 00:08:55.80\00:08:59.10 us and put it on Jesus. 00:08:59.13\00:09:01.37 So Moses is a type of Christ in this story as well. 00:09:01.40\00:09:04.27 Jean: And of course, Moses did eventually stand in the 00:09:04.31\00:09:06.14 Promised Land at the time when he-- 00:09:06.17\00:09:08.44 Doug: Mount of Transfiguration. 00:09:08.48\00:09:10.01 Jean: Yeah, Mount of Transfiguration, 00:09:10.05\00:09:11.48 they were there. 00:09:11.51\00:09:13.05 So he did ultimately walk in that land. 00:09:13.08\00:09:14.75 All right, thank you, Debbie. 00:09:14.78\00:09:16.42 We've got Camora listening in Georgia. 00:09:16.45\00:09:18.35 Camora, welcome to the program. 00:09:18.39\00:09:20.09 Camora: Hey, I have a question. 00:09:20.12\00:09:22.79 I'm young and I'm considering college after high school and 00:09:22.82\00:09:27.76 my mom and a church sister and another church sister is working 00:09:27.83\00:09:32.47 on trying to get me to college. 00:09:32.50\00:09:35.94 Like, how do I know, like, which college to go to? 00:09:35.97\00:09:39.41 Doug: All right, so, well, when you're trying to make 00:09:39.44\00:09:43.55 decisions and you've got several potentially good choices 00:09:43.58\00:09:48.05 and you want to know what is God's will for me, 00:09:48.08\00:09:50.19 then there are several criteria. 00:09:50.22\00:09:52.52 The Bible tells us, and by the way, I've got a little book. 00:09:52.55\00:09:55.99 We'll send you a free copy if you'd like, and it's called 00:09:56.02\00:09:58.79 "How to Know," or "How to Determine the Will of God." 00:09:58.83\00:10:01.23 And it's designed especially for this kind of question. 00:10:01.26\00:10:06.27 But--and I won't give you all--everything in the book, 00:10:06.30\00:10:09.10 but it's basically get good Christian counsel, look for 00:10:09.14\00:10:14.04 providential openings, find which of the options lines up 00:10:14.08\00:10:18.41 best with the Word of God, pray that God's Spirit will give you 00:10:18.45\00:10:22.25 peace, and then also it says in Psalms 37 that as you surrender 00:10:22.28\00:10:26.15 to the Lord, He gives you the desires of your heart. 00:10:26.19\00:10:28.29 So, He may place a, you know, special burning desire on your 00:10:28.32\00:10:31.99 heart for a specialty, and one college does more 00:10:32.03\00:10:35.66 in that specialty than another. 00:10:35.70\00:10:37.13 That would be another sign. 00:10:37.17\00:10:38.90 So there's about a dozen ideas in the book about how 00:10:38.93\00:10:41.90 do I determine the will of God and they're all Bible based. 00:10:41.94\00:10:44.84 Then you could send for a free copy of that and we'll be 00:10:44.87\00:10:48.34 praying for you, that God tells you what to do, Camora. 00:10:48.38\00:10:51.21 Jean: The book is called, "Determining the Will of God," 00:10:51.25\00:10:53.45 and for anyone wanting to get the book, you can-- 00:10:53.48\00:10:55.55 well, two ways to get it. 00:10:55.58\00:10:56.95 One, you can call 800-835-6747 and you can ask for the book, 00:10:56.99\00:11:01.22 or there is a second way. 00:11:01.26\00:11:02.96 Just dial #250 on your smartphone and say, 00:11:02.99\00:11:07.10 "Bible Answers Live," and then ask for the book. 00:11:07.13\00:11:08.86 It's called, "Determining the Will of God," and we'll be able 00:11:08.90\00:11:12.03 to send that to anyone who calls and asks for it. 00:11:12.07\00:11:16.27 Next caller that we have is Ron, 00:11:16.30\00:11:17.94 listening all the way over in Switzerland. 00:11:17.97\00:11:19.41 Ron, welcome to the program. 00:11:19.44\00:11:21.18 Ron: Hi, good morning. 00:11:21.21\00:11:23.21 Doug: Hi, how are you doing? 00:11:23.24\00:11:24.55 Ron: A lot of my evangelical friends point out to me numerous 00:11:24.58\00:11:28.18 Old Testament Bible texts that seem to support the notion of 00:11:28.22\00:11:30.99 Jews as a race remaining favored under God's protection forever. 00:11:31.02\00:11:35.36 And I always thought that these Old Testament prophecies were 00:11:35.39\00:11:38.83 conditional and would be annulled if conditions attached 00:11:38.86\00:11:41.96 to them were not met, in other words, repentance, 00:11:42.00\00:11:44.67 turning from sin to Messiah as prophesied in Daniel 9, 00:11:44.70\00:11:48.34 but I haven't seen that happening. 00:11:48.37\00:11:50.54 So, most Jews that I know aren't even Jewish. 00:11:50.57\00:11:54.64 They're atheists. 00:11:54.68\00:11:56.64 So my question is "HOW SHOULD ONE READ 00:11:56.68\00:11:59.11 OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES CONCERNING ISRAEL? 00:11:59.15\00:12:02.42 AND ARE THERE ANY SCRIPTURES THAT MENTION 00:12:02.45\00:12:04.69 THE MODERN STATE OF ISRAEL?" 00:12:04.72\00:12:06.29 Doug: It's a complex answer. 00:12:06.32\00:12:07.79 First of all, the main purpose of Israel was to introduce 00:12:07.82\00:12:12.29 the Messiah to the world, which they did. 00:12:12.33\00:12:15.80 They were the guardians of the Scriptures. 00:12:15.83\00:12:18.10 Paul says in Romans that the oracles 00:12:18.13\00:12:20.40 were committed to the Jews. 00:12:20.44\00:12:22.30 And Jesus told the woman at the well, 00:12:22.34\00:12:24.37 "Salvation is of the Jews," 00:12:24.41\00:12:26.44 meaning that, you know, the Messiah came through 00:12:26.47\00:12:28.78 the Jews, but then with the death of Christ and the stoning 00:12:28.81\00:12:33.78 of Stephen, it came to the place where the Lord opened the door 00:12:33.82\00:12:37.82 to the Gentiles. 00:12:37.85\00:12:39.72 Paul said, you know, "It's--it was necessary that 00:12:39.75\00:12:41.99 we preached to the Jews first but seeing you rejected, lo, 00:12:42.02\00:12:45.03 we turned to the Gentiles." 00:12:45.06\00:12:46.36 So as they went from place to place, as the Jews might 00:12:46.39\00:12:48.33 reject--some accepted, like in Berea, but if they rejected, 00:12:48.36\00:12:52.00 then they just went to the Gentiles. 00:12:52.03\00:12:53.97 And then Paul makes it clear, he says, you know, "Now, 00:12:54.00\00:12:57.04 Gentiles can be grafted into the stock and promises of Israel." 00:12:57.07\00:13:01.44 That's Romans chapter 9, 10, 11. 00:13:01.48\00:13:04.81 But it says in Romans 11: "Has God cast off Israel? 00:13:04.85\00:13:07.98 God forbid." 00:13:08.02\00:13:09.62 God still has, I think, a special eye 00:13:09.65\00:13:11.69 on the Jewish people. 00:13:11.72\00:13:13.32 That doesn't mean anyone is saved by virtue of their DNA 00:13:13.36\00:13:15.99 or their heritage. 00:13:16.02\00:13:17.39 It's those that are of faith. 00:13:17.43\00:13:19.09 Paul says, "He that is Christ's, he is Abraham's seed." 00:13:19.13\00:13:22.63 And it's not everyone that says, you know, they're a Jew. 00:13:22.66\00:13:26.97 Jesus said, "They'll come from the East and the West and 00:13:27.00\00:13:29.87 they'll sit down in the kingdom with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob 00:13:29.90\00:13:32.81 and some of the natural children will be in outer darkness." 00:13:32.84\00:13:36.38 So it--we're only saved by faith, Jew or Gentile. 00:13:36.41\00:13:39.48 But are there any modern prophecies about Israel? 00:13:39.51\00:13:42.62 Well, you know, there--some have wondered when it says there in 00:13:42.65\00:13:45.99 Daniel and I'm just saying what some have thought, Daniel 11, 00:13:46.02\00:13:49.82 where it says that the king in the North is going to come 00:13:49.86\00:13:53.43 against the holy country, the glorious country. 00:13:53.46\00:13:56.56 They wonder, "Well, is that an illusion to Israel or is it 00:13:56.60\00:13:59.27 talking about the church?" 00:13:59.30\00:14:00.90 And then you have in Luke 21 where it says Jerusalem 00:14:00.94\00:14:03.64 would be trodden down by the Gentiles 00:14:03.67\00:14:05.74 unless the times of the Gentiles is fulfilled. 00:14:05.77\00:14:09.88 And many have thought, "Well, when they were reestablished 00:14:09.91\00:14:12.75 as a nation in 1948, that was certainly pretty remarkable. 00:14:12.78\00:14:16.69 It may be, in the same way, God chastised America to get-- 00:14:16.72\00:14:21.46 to turn us back to him with 9/11." 00:14:21.49\00:14:23.93 You know, even Billy Graham said, 00:14:23.96\00:14:25.46 "Maybe God's trying to get our attention." 00:14:25.49\00:14:27.13 It may be this recent attack, and the Lord loves His people 00:14:27.20\00:14:31.80 and sometimes He allows trials that we'll turn to Him. 00:14:31.83\00:14:34.77 So, that may have sounded like a convoluted answer. 00:14:34.80\00:14:37.27 We have a book on this called, "Spiritual Israel," and there's 00:14:37.31\00:14:41.54 also that great book, "The Fall and Rise of Jerusalem." 00:14:41.58\00:14:44.45 Jean: That's right. 00:14:44.48\00:14:45.88 Well, let me tell you about that free offer. 00:14:45.91\00:14:47.58 It's called, "Spiritual Israel," and again, this is for anyone 00:14:47.62\00:14:49.85 who'd like to learn more about what does the Bible say about 00:14:49.88\00:14:51.69 Israel, especially in our time. 00:14:51.72\00:14:53.62 To receive that, just call 800-835-6747. 00:14:53.66\00:14:56.96 You can ask for the book. It's called, "Spiritual Israel." 00:14:56.99\00:14:59.93 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone, 00:14:59.96\00:15:02.46 say "Bible Answers Live," ask for "Spiritual Israel," 00:15:02.50\00:15:05.47 and we'll be able to get that to you. 00:15:05.50\00:15:07.04 Thanks, Ron. 00:15:07.07\00:15:08.60 Next caller that we have is Anna listening in Oregon. 00:15:08.64\00:15:10.54 Anna, welcome to the program. 00:15:10.57\00:15:12.24 Anna: Evening, Pastors. 00:15:12.27\00:15:14.14 Doug: Evening. 00:15:14.18\00:15:15.78 Anna: My question is from Ezekiel 34, verses 23 and 24, 00:15:15.81\00:15:23.59 and I was wondering if Ezekiel was talking about Jesus 00:15:23.62\00:15:27.36 when he says that David, "My servant David, 00:15:27.39\00:15:33.83 he shall feed them and be their shepherd"? 00:15:33.86\00:15:36.83 Doug: Yeah, I think this--let me read it for everybody here 00:15:36.87\00:15:41.20 and this is in Ezekiel chapter 34, verse 23: 00:15:41.24\00:15:46.61 "I WILL ESTABLISH ONE SHEPHERD OVER THEM, 00:15:46.64\00:15:49.28 AND HE WILL FEED THEM-- MY SERVANT DAVID. 00:15:49.31\00:15:51.85 HE WILL FEED THEM AND BE THEIR SHEPHERD. 00:15:51.88\00:15:54.05 AND I, THE LORD, WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND MY SERVANT DAVID 00:15:54.08\00:15:57.15 A PRINCE AMONG THEM; I, THE LORD, HAVE SPOKEN." 00:15:57.19\00:16:00.29 This is what you would call a dual prophecy. 00:16:00.32\00:16:02.96 I do believe that David will be in the new heaven and the new 00:16:02.99\00:16:07.56 earth where it says, "The meek will inherit the earth." 00:16:07.60\00:16:10.57 And God's--you know, David, he always looked at the people 00:16:10.60\00:16:14.74 of Israel as his sheep. 00:16:14.77\00:16:16.81 When a terrible plague came, he said, "Lord, 00:16:16.84\00:16:18.74 what have these sheep done? 00:16:18.77\00:16:20.61 Take this out on me and my father's house." 00:16:20.64\00:16:22.64 So I think David will have a position of leadership 00:16:22.68\00:16:25.01 in the earth made new, but more than that, I think it's talking 00:16:25.05\00:16:28.48 about Jesus, the Son of David, who is the Good Shepherd. 00:16:28.52\00:16:32.22 And Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd," and He is the Son 00:16:32.25\00:16:35.16 of David, so in a bigger sense I think it's talking about Christ. 00:16:35.19\00:16:38.93 Jean: And probably, again, the book that we mentioned 00:16:38.96\00:16:40.90 just previously called "Spiritual Israel" 00:16:40.93\00:16:42.60 would probably talk on this as well. 00:16:42.63\00:16:44.13 So, again, to receive that it's 800-835-6747. 00:16:44.17\00:16:47.90 Or just dial #250, say "Bible Answers Live," 00:16:47.94\00:16:51.64 ask for the book. It's called, "Spiritual Israel." 00:16:51.67\00:16:54.14 We've got Glenn listening in Ohio. 00:16:54.18\00:16:56.78 Glenn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:16:56.81\00:17:00.48 Glenn: Good evening and thank you for taking my call. 00:17:00.52\00:17:03.32 Doug: Yes, sir. 00:17:03.35\00:17:04.89 Glenn: You know, Paul in his book of 1 Thessalonians 4:17 00:17:04.92\00:17:08.79 was pretty specific when he said: "THE DEAD IN CHRIST RISE, 00:17:08.82\00:17:12.96 AND THEN WE WHICH ARE ALIVE AND REMAIN." 00:17:12.99\00:17:15.70 So there's 4000 years of people that are-- 00:17:15.73\00:17:18.77 that existed before the Jesus era. 00:17:18.80\00:17:21.87 My question is what resurrection will they be in? 00:17:21.90\00:17:26.14 Doug: Yeah, the--you can read in Revelation chapter 20, 00:17:26.17\00:17:29.11 speaking of the general resurrection, and it describes 00:17:29.14\00:17:32.35 there are two resurrections. 00:17:32.38\00:17:33.95 Now when I first read this, I thought, "What? 00:17:33.98\00:17:36.58 I thought everyone just got raised at the end for judgment." 00:17:36.62\00:17:39.39 But Jesus says, and I'm quoting two different verses. 00:17:39.42\00:17:42.92 Jesus says in the Gospel of John the hour is coming in which all 00:17:42.96\00:17:46.86 that are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth. 00:17:46.90\00:17:49.63 "They that have done good, the resurrection of life." 00:17:49.66\00:17:54.14 Then He says, "And they that have done evil, 00:17:54.17\00:17:56.04 the resurrection of damnation." 00:17:56.07\00:17:57.71 Two different resurrections. 00:17:57.74\00:17:59.41 And you read in Revelation chapter 20 and this is talking 00:17:59.44\00:18:02.08 about, you know, the Millennium, and it says that, ah, 00:18:02.11\00:18:07.62 let me see, I want verse 5. 00:18:07.65\00:18:09.42 "THE REST OF THE DEAD LIVE NOT AGAIN 00:18:09.45\00:18:11.65 UNTIL THE THOUSAND YEARS ARE FINISHED." 00:18:11.69\00:18:13.79 Well, who are the rest of the dead? 00:18:13.82\00:18:15.46 Well, it says the dead in Christ rise when Jesus comes. 00:18:15.49\00:18:18.59 So all believers from the time of Abel and Adam, all the way to 00:18:18.63\00:18:23.67 the Second Coming, with, you know, a few exceptions like 00:18:23.70\00:18:29.44 Enoch and Elijah and Moses, they sleep until the Second Coming 00:18:29.47\00:18:36.28 when the Lord descends from heaven with a shout and 00:18:36.31\00:18:38.78 the voice of the archangel and the trump of God. 00:18:38.81\00:18:41.05 And they rise. 00:18:41.08\00:18:42.75 The wicked do not come out of their graves. 00:18:42.78\00:18:44.75 It says the rest of the dead, they come out 00:18:44.79\00:18:47.16 after the thousand years. 00:18:47.19\00:18:48.76 And then He goes on and says, "BLESSED AND HOLY IS HE 00:18:48.79\00:18:51.36 THAT HAS PART IN THE FIRST RESURRECTION." 00:18:51.39\00:18:53.90 Well, where you've got a first resurrection, 00:18:53.93\00:18:55.83 you must have a second. 00:18:55.86\00:18:57.30 First resurrection is the righteous, 00:18:57.33\00:18:58.67 second resurrection is the lost. 00:18:58.70\00:19:00.64 We have a study guide. 00:19:00.67\00:19:02.50 Jean: We have a study guide talk about it. 00:19:02.54\00:19:03.91 Important subject. 00:19:03.94\00:19:05.41 So it's called the "Ultimate Deliverance," talking about 00:19:05.44\00:19:07.08 the Second Coming of Christ and it talks about that resurrection 00:19:07.11\00:19:10.11 of the righteous at the Second Coming and then 00:19:10.15\00:19:12.41 the resurrection of the wicked at the Third Coming 00:19:12.45\00:19:15.58 at the end of the 1000 years. 00:19:15.62\00:19:17.25 So actually, two study guides. 00:19:17.29\00:19:18.65 The one's called "The Ultimate Deliverance," 00:19:18.69\00:19:20.06 talking about the Second Coming. 00:19:20.09\00:19:21.42 Then we have another one called "1000 Years of Peace," talks 00:19:21.46\00:19:24.76 about the Millennium and then what happens at the end of that. 00:19:24.79\00:19:26.80 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:19:26.83\00:19:30.47 That is our resource phone line. 00:19:30.50\00:19:32.00 Ask for that study guide, "The Ultimate Deliverance," 00:19:32.03\00:19:34.50 and also "1000 Years of Peace." 00:19:34.54\00:19:36.81 Or dial #250, say "Bible Answers Live," 00:19:36.84\00:19:39.77 and just ask for those resources. 00:19:39.81\00:19:42.54 Next caller that we have is Steve listening in Oregon. 00:19:42.58\00:19:44.88 Steve, you're on the air. 00:19:44.91\00:19:46.41 Steve: Yes, I've recently received one of your DVD 00:19:46.45\00:19:49.72 programs expounding on the millions and billions of stars 00:19:49.75\00:19:53.76 and galaxies in our universe. 00:19:53.79\00:19:56.49 And also stating in the kingdom to come we will be able 00:19:56.52\00:20:01.20 to visit other worlds. 00:20:01.23\00:20:03.70 If I understand this correctly, could it be possible if what we 00:20:03.73\00:20:09.10 might be witnessing today of UFOs that are from other worlds 00:20:09.14\00:20:15.54 that did not flunk the test of sin that Adam and Eve failed? 00:20:15.58\00:20:21.35 Doug: First, I'd say do we believe there's intelligent life 00:20:21.38\00:20:24.15 in other worlds, unfallen worlds? 00:20:24.19\00:20:27.59 I think absolutely. 00:20:27.62\00:20:29.72 And you can read in the book of Hebrews chapter 1, the 2nd verse 00:20:29.76\00:20:33.53 of the book of Hebrews, it says: "GOD HAS IN THESE LAST DAYS 00:20:33.56\00:20:36.73 SPOKEN TO US BY HIS SON, 00:20:36.77\00:20:38.63 WHOM HE HAS APPOINTED HEIR OF ALL THINGS, 00:20:38.67\00:20:40.80 THROUGH WHOM ALSO HE MADE THE WORLDS." 00:20:40.84\00:20:44.34 And it's plural there. 00:20:44.37\00:20:46.21 And then you read in Revelation about all the creatures on Earth 00:20:46.24\00:20:48.44 and all the creatures above are praising God. 00:20:48.48\00:20:51.25 Book of Job talks about this heavenly meeting that is not on 00:20:51.28\00:20:55.22 Earth, where Satan also comes among them and he says, 00:20:55.25\00:20:58.89 "I've come from the Earth." 00:20:58.92\00:21:00.76 So is there intelligent life outside of planet Earth? 00:21:00.79\00:21:03.49 Absolutely, the cosmos is virtually infinite and God is 00:21:03.53\00:21:06.23 infinite, so I think it's silly to say we are the first time God 00:21:06.26\00:21:10.50 thought to create anything, you know, 6000 years ago. 00:21:10.53\00:21:14.80 But the unfallen worlds, I think our planet is quarantined 00:21:14.84\00:21:19.21 because of sin. 00:21:19.24\00:21:21.11 The only interaction we have is with the hospital staff, that'd 00:21:21.14\00:21:24.61 be God and the angels. 00:21:24.65\00:21:26.72 So I don't think, you know, if there's UFOs and people 00:21:26.75\00:21:30.45 are seeing things, it could be optical illusions 00:21:30.49\00:21:32.59 or it could be demonic. 00:21:32.62\00:21:34.52 I mean, Satan can--he's an angel of light. 00:21:34.56\00:21:36.59 Sometimes, Satan can create illusions and delusions. 00:21:36.62\00:21:39.86 So, I hope that helps a little bit, but what do you think, 00:21:39.89\00:21:44.47 Pastor Ross? 00:21:44.50\00:21:45.90 Jean: Yeah, absolutely. 00:21:45.93\00:21:47.24 You know, I'm looking, Pastor Doug, do we have a book 00:21:47.27\00:21:48.70 talking about UFOs? 00:21:48.74\00:21:50.04 We might have to get one because we do get 00:21:50.07\00:21:51.44 a lot of questions on that, yeah. 00:21:51.47\00:21:53.11 'Course, the Bible does say-- 00:21:53.14\00:21:54.74 Doug: You know, I have a sermon--I'm sorry, go ahead. 00:21:54.78\00:21:56.21 Jean: I was just going to mention the Bible does say that 00:21:56.24\00:21:57.81 the devil can transform himself into an angel of light, so 00:21:57.85\00:21:59.85 wouldn't be very hard for him to, you know, use these UFOs, 00:21:59.88\00:22:02.78 and if you look at, at least the popular idea of what a UFO is 00:22:02.82\00:22:05.92 or an alien, it always presents them as very strange 00:22:05.95\00:22:10.09 and, you know-- 00:22:10.13\00:22:12.53 Doug: They're skinny with big heads. 00:22:12.56\00:22:14.20 Jean: Yeah, I mean, they're not exactly angelic beings, so. 00:22:14.23\00:22:17.97 Doug: You know, I have a sermon online if you just 00:22:18.00\00:22:19.93 YouTube "Doug Batchelor. 00:22:19.97\00:22:21.94 Is there life in other worlds?" 00:22:21.97\00:22:24.11 And it's a few years ago. 00:22:24.14\00:22:26.34 It's not looking much better then but it's actually, I think, 00:22:26.37\00:22:28.81 a good message, taking what the Bible says about that. 00:22:28.84\00:22:31.18 Jean: All right, great, thank you. 00:22:31.21\00:22:32.68 Junith in Nevada. 00:22:32.71\00:22:34.08 Junith, welcome to the program. 00:22:34.12\00:22:35.62 Junith: Hello, a blessed evening 00:22:35.65\00:22:38.69 to you both, Pastor Doug and Pastor Jean. 00:22:38.72\00:22:42.19 I have a question. 00:22:42.22\00:22:44.53 I cannot find, I don't know if I missed the mark 00:22:44.56\00:22:48.76 but I'm looking for the fruit. 00:22:48.80\00:22:52.17 What is that fruit which is the fruit of the tree of knowledge 00:22:52.20\00:22:55.74 of good and evil? 00:22:55.77\00:22:57.31 Is that an apple? 00:22:57.34\00:22:58.74 Is it another kind of fruit? 00:22:58.77\00:23:00.98 Thank you. 00:23:01.01\00:23:02.74 Doug: Yeah, thank you, Junith. 00:23:02.78\00:23:04.55 You know, people often picture--they talk about 00:23:04.58\00:23:07.62 Eve eating the apple, and I understand Apple computer, 00:23:07.65\00:23:11.15 you know, it's a picture of an apple 00:23:11.19\00:23:12.49 with one bite out of it--it's-- 00:23:12.52\00:23:14.39 Jean: It's always red, a red apple, for some reason. 00:23:14.42\00:23:16.76 Doug: So, you know, that's become sort of a logo for Eve 00:23:16.79\00:23:20.96 eating the forbidden fruit, but nowhere in the Bible 00:23:20.96\00:23:24.70 does it call it an apple. 00:23:24.73\00:23:26.97 The old English word for any kind of fruit would be "apple." 00:23:27.00\00:23:29.97 And even when the Bible talks about the apple of your eye, 00:23:30.01\00:23:33.34 it means at the center. 00:23:33.38\00:23:35.04 So it wasn't the typical McIntosh or Red Delicious 00:23:35.08\00:23:38.45 or Fuji apple. 00:23:38.48\00:23:40.15 No, no, it's not--it doesn't say what kind of fruit it was. 00:23:40.18\00:23:42.38 For all we know, it looked like a cross between a pineapple 00:23:42.42\00:23:45.35 and a pear and a banana. 00:23:45.39\00:23:46.82 We don't know. 00:23:46.86\00:23:48.29 It probably was beautiful. 00:23:48.32\00:23:50.29 It says it was, you know, good to look at, very attractive. 00:23:50.33\00:23:52.99 I think it looked much better than the average apple. 00:23:53.03\00:23:55.06 Doesn't describe the color, though, 00:23:55.10\00:23:57.13 doesn't describe the shape. 00:23:57.17\00:23:58.93 It may have even tasted great at first, 00:23:58.97\00:24:02.07 like all forbidden fruit, right? 00:24:02.10\00:24:03.67 Taste good at first. 00:24:03.71\00:24:05.51 But the effect of that was devastating to the human race. 00:24:05.54\00:24:09.81 So, no, it's not a sin to eat apples. 00:24:09.84\00:24:12.61 You know, that's why they say with a man and you got this lump 00:24:12.65\00:24:15.85 in your throat, they call it the Adam's apple because he took the 00:24:15.88\00:24:18.45 fruit that Eve gave him and I guess a piece got stuck there. 00:24:18.49\00:24:21.16 That's the story, anyway. 00:24:21.19\00:24:23.06 Jean: All right. 00:24:23.09\00:24:24.66 Doug: Thanks, Junith. 00:24:24.69\00:24:26.13 Jean: Next caller that we have is Anastasia 00:24:26.16\00:24:27.66 listening from Canada. 00:24:27.73\00:24:29.36 Anastasia, welcome to the program. 00:24:29.40\00:24:32.00 Anastasia: Hi, hi, Pastor Doug, hi, Pastor Ross. 00:24:32.03\00:24:34.97 Doug: Hi, how are you? 00:24:35.00\00:24:36.37 Anastasia: I'm good. 00:24:36.40\00:24:37.71 I hope you're doing well. 00:24:37.74\00:24:39.27 My question was about the four creatures 00:24:39.31\00:24:41.18 that John saw in the vision. 00:24:41.21\00:24:44.88 Are they symbolic or are there actually, like, four creatures 00:24:44.91\00:24:48.18 in heaven today in front of the throne with eyes all over them? 00:24:48.22\00:24:51.59 Doug: Yeah, well, I think--I think they're symbols, and 00:24:51.62\00:24:55.66 Revelation plays on a lot of the symbols you find other places 00:24:55.69\00:24:59.89 in the Bible. 00:24:59.93\00:25:01.56 And it's in Ezekiel chapter 1, he describes these four living 00:25:01.60\00:25:06.10 creatures that are almost identical to the creatures that 00:25:06.13\00:25:10.17 you find there in Revelation. 00:25:10.21\00:25:12.11 And there's been great debate and discussion on what these 00:25:12.14\00:25:16.85 creatures represent, you know, they'd be kind of bizarre, as 00:25:16.88\00:25:20.62 one's got, like, you know, a man's face and they got wings 00:25:20.65\00:25:23.49 and eyes and--hooves and wheels within wheels 00:25:23.52\00:25:27.99 and there's a lot of symbolism in there. 00:25:28.02\00:25:30.26 And Pastor Ross, he and I maybe have a slightly different view 00:25:30.29\00:25:34.56 on this but I think both may be applicable. 00:25:34.60\00:25:38.23 Many of the church fathers believe that these four 00:25:38.27\00:25:41.27 creatures are different attributes of Jesus, 00:25:41.30\00:25:44.44 that you see in the Gospels where, you know, the lion is 00:25:44.47\00:25:49.11 Jesus being presented in the book of Matthew as a King. 00:25:49.14\00:25:53.65 It was written for the Jews. 00:25:53.68\00:25:55.22 He's the Messiah. 00:25:55.25\00:25:56.92 And in Mark, it was appealing to the Gentiles, the Greeks, 00:25:56.95\00:26:00.36 and Jesus is portrayed the speed and the vision of the eagle. 00:26:00.39\00:26:05.09 And Mark is a very quick Gospel, if you've read it. 00:26:05.13\00:26:08.40 In Luke, you've got the physician. 00:26:08.43\00:26:10.40 There you have Jesus, the man. 00:26:10.43\00:26:12.57 And in John, you've got Jesus who is the sacrifice. 00:26:12.60\00:26:16.67 And so, that's one way some people have viewed it. 00:26:16.71\00:26:19.77 Hey, friends, you hear the music. 00:26:19.81\00:26:21.58 We're taking a break. 00:26:21.61\00:26:23.18 Just came up and hit us. 00:26:23.21\00:26:24.78 We'll be back; don't go anywhere. 00:26:24.81\00:26:26.61 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:26:29.48\00:26:30.79 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:30.82\00:26:33.56 ¤¤¤ 00:26:33.59\00:26:36.69 ¤¤¤ 00:26:38.39\00:26:40.86 female: We were living in Phoenix at the time, a big 00:26:40.90\00:26:43.57 metropolitan area, and you started watching the Millennium 00:26:43.60\00:26:48.84 series and so then we would pick a topic for the weekend and we 00:26:48.87\00:26:52.77 would do a Bible study together and so we just experienced that 00:26:52.81\00:26:58.18 kind of revival and reformation. 00:26:58.21\00:27:02.42 And so we were changing lifestyle habits and we got 00:27:02.45\00:27:07.96 pregnant with Niko in 2011. 00:27:07.99\00:27:12.29 male: And we were like, you know, we just can't get past 00:27:12.33\00:27:15.90 that the principle is saying that we should come to Canada. 00:27:15.93\00:27:20.00 female: About a month after we had been here, a little bump 00:27:20.04\00:27:23.97 popped up on Niko's--right in here, his cheek. 00:27:24.01\00:27:28.58 So I take him to the family doctor, and the family doctor 00:27:28.61\00:27:32.21 was like, "Oh, it's probably just a-- 00:27:32.25\00:27:34.05 Niko: A cyst. female: A cyst. 00:27:34.08\00:27:36.55 So on December 21, he--we went in, thinking it would just be 00:27:36.58\00:27:39.22 a day surgery. 00:27:39.25\00:27:41.16 We had planned to leave by, like, noon and be on our way. 00:27:41.19\00:27:46.76 The plastic surgeon came out after the surgery and told us 00:27:46.80\00:27:52.40 that it was not a cyst. 00:27:52.43\00:27:54.34 It became very clear once they went in there that it was 00:27:54.37\00:27:56.37 a cancerous tumor and-- 00:27:56.40\00:27:58.61 male: With a very-- female: --poor prognosis. 00:27:58.64\00:28:02.04 It was very scary. 00:28:02.08\00:28:04.51 So a lot of this year has been chemo treatments 00:28:04.55\00:28:09.72 which will leave him not feeling well or his immune system 00:28:09.75\00:28:13.99 gets wiped out. 00:28:14.02\00:28:15.92 So then we have to do a lot of church at home, 00:28:15.96\00:28:18.06 so Amazing Adventures, right? 00:28:18.09\00:28:22.70 We watched a lot of that for home church and that's been 00:28:22.73\00:28:27.24 really interesting and fun for him and his brother, and us as 00:28:27.27\00:28:32.84 a family, to watch and we're so thankful for stuff like that to 00:28:32.87\00:28:37.05 be so that we can still have a Sabbath experience 00:28:37.08\00:28:40.38 even though we have to be home. 00:28:40.42\00:28:42.58 So it's been good for our hearts to see him 00:28:42.62\00:28:44.62 really connect with Pastor Doug. 00:28:44.65\00:28:47.49 male: Pastor Doug's Amazing Adventures really resonate with 00:28:47.52\00:28:50.66 him because he mixes the stories with the Bible and 00:28:50.69\00:28:55.53 the Amazing Facts about history and Niko really likes history 00:28:55.56\00:28:59.77 and so we've ran into some people who mentioned 00:28:59.80\00:29:04.37 that Pastor Doug 00:29:04.41\00:29:06.37 would be here to, well, to preach, and Niko got excited. 00:29:06.41\00:29:10.61 Niko: Like, immediately, I was, like, 00:29:10.65\00:29:12.28 "Okay, yeah, I want to go." 00:29:12.31\00:29:14.75 male: Depending on how his blood counts are, it affects if 00:29:14.78\00:29:18.25 he gets chemo certain times, and so you never know in the future 00:29:18.29\00:29:21.49 what days will line up with what, and it turned out that 00:29:21.52\00:29:25.36 this week was going to be a 5-day chemo which we were 00:29:25.39\00:29:28.36 bummed about because that means most likely 00:29:28.40\00:29:30.97 he won't feel up to coming. 00:29:31.00\00:29:32.93 So, you know, we'll just watch it from home. 00:29:32.97\00:29:34.97 Easy enough to do. 00:29:35.00\00:29:36.81 Niko: I had chemo and I felt sick but I still wanted to come. 00:29:36.84\00:29:40.68 male: He said he wanted to go, and so I'm a little 00:29:40.71\00:29:44.11 concerned 'cause you never know when, you know, how he'd feel, 00:29:44.15\00:29:46.98 and he does throw up on occasion. 00:29:47.02\00:29:50.02 So that night, he's like, "I want to sit up front and, 00:29:50.05\00:29:52.49 you know, I think I'm feeling good enough." 00:29:52.52\00:29:54.49 Niko: I was real excited that I could actually see him. 00:29:54.52\00:29:58.33 It just--it would be a good feeling, and something 00:29:58.36\00:30:02.66 I wouldn't forget for the rest of my life, if I did. 00:30:02.70\00:30:08.24 all: We are the Corseys and thank you 00:30:08.27\00:30:10.37 for changing our lives. 00:30:10.41\00:30:12.81 ¤¤¤ 00:30:12.84\00:30:15.98 announcer: You're listening to "Bible Answers Live," 00:30:19.95\00:30:22.72 where every question answered provides a clearer picture 00:30:22.75\00:30:25.72 of God and His plan to save you. 00:30:25.75\00:30:28.49 So what are you waiting for? 00:34:15.75\00:34:18.75 Doug: Yeah, I appreciate that. 00:34:18.79\00:34:20.59 You know, probably one of the places that you could look for 00:34:20.62\00:34:24.29 a parallel in the Old Testament was the Bible tells us that 00:34:24.33\00:34:29.26 Moses had 12 princes and they chose 12 representatives for the 00:34:29.30\00:34:33.80 12 tribes when he was leading them to the Promised Land. 00:34:33.84\00:34:36.37 And he had 70 elders. 00:34:36.40\00:34:38.81 Well, Jesus had 12 apostles and He had 70 disciples 00:34:38.84\00:34:43.14 that He sent out, the Gospel of Luke tells us. 00:34:43.18\00:34:45.95 I'm trying to think if there was any, you know, it talks about 00:34:45.98\00:34:49.15 the teaching ministry of Jesus in the Old Testament but I don't 00:34:49.18\00:34:52.09 know that it says, "And He would have 12 apostles." 00:34:52.12\00:34:54.52 So there's no specific prophecy that said that, 00:34:54.56\00:34:57.03 but we do see parallels. 00:34:57.06\00:34:58.83 We do see King Solomon and David surrounded themselves with 00:34:58.86\00:35:03.16 leadership in the number 12, or divisions of that number. 00:35:03.20\00:35:08.40 And there were, like, you know, 12 cycles of priests or they're 00:35:08.44\00:35:12.97 at 24, that's where you get the number 144,000 00:35:13.01\00:35:15.68 is 12 times 12,000. 00:35:15.71\00:35:18.31 There were--many people count when you look at the Judges, if 00:35:18.35\00:35:22.75 you include Samuel as one of the judges, there were 12 judges. 00:35:22.78\00:35:25.29 So, you see that number is a number that represented God's 00:35:25.32\00:35:29.49 people, and I think even Peter says, "I'm sending a letter to 00:35:29.52\00:35:34.00 the 12 tribes," and he's using it there to talk to the church, 00:35:34.00\00:35:37.47 but he calls them the 12 tribes. 00:35:37.50\00:35:39.20 Jean: So the number 12 we find in the Bible represents 00:35:39.23\00:35:41.47 God's people: Old Testament, 12 tribes; 00:35:41.50\00:35:44.14 New Testament, 12 apostles. 00:35:44.17\00:35:45.81 And of course, we find in Revelation chapter 12 that there 00:35:45.84\00:35:48.88 is a woman representing the church and she has a crown 00:35:48.91\00:35:51.18 of 12 stars so, again, 12 connected with God's people. 00:35:51.21\00:35:55.02 All right, next caller that we have is Abby, listening in Utah. 00:35:55.05\00:35:57.82 Abby, welcome to the program. 00:35:57.85\00:35:59.89 Abby: Hi, my name is Abby. 00:35:59.92\00:36:03.73 My Bible question is: "WHY DO MOST PEOPLE CHOOSE SUNDAY 00:36:03.76\00:36:08.66 AS THEIR HOLY DAY INSTEAD OF SATURDAY?" 00:36:08.70\00:36:11.60 Doug: Yeah, all right, thank you, good question. 00:36:11.63\00:36:13.84 First of all, in the Bible the Jews did not use the names that 00:36:13.87\00:36:18.24 we typically use today for, you know, we use names connected 00:36:18.27\00:36:21.61 with Roman and Greek deities. 00:36:21.64\00:36:24.38 Sunday, the sun was the principal god that was 00:36:24.41\00:36:27.88 worshiped, even in the Egyptians. 00:36:27.92\00:36:30.32 Monday's moon day, Wednesday was Odin's day, 00:36:30.35\00:36:34.52 Thursday was Thor's day, Saturday was Saturn day. 00:36:34.56\00:36:37.89 The Bible, they called it first, second, third, fourth, fifth, 00:36:37.93\00:36:41.80 and the sixth was called preparation day, preparation 00:36:41.83\00:36:45.23 for the Sabbath, seventh day was called the Sabbath day. 00:36:45.27\00:36:48.27 But they used numbers. 00:36:48.30\00:36:50.04 And so, God blessed the seventh day of the week, that's the day 00:36:50.07\00:36:53.71 we normally call Saturday. 00:36:53.74\00:36:55.98 Jesus rose on the first day of the week, there's no question 00:36:56.01\00:36:58.95 that He rose on what we would call Sunday, 00:36:58.98\00:37:01.55 but did He ever change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday? 00:37:01.58\00:37:06.32 Well, there's no verse in the Scripture anywhere 00:37:06.35\00:37:09.22 where we are commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day. 00:37:09.26\00:37:12.46 Some people have looked at a couple of verses in the New 00:37:12.49\00:37:15.56 Testament that mention the first day of the week and they had 00:37:15.60\00:37:17.87 gatherings but it also says they gathered every day in other 00:37:17.90\00:37:22.00 places, so Sunday keeping really came from traditions that began 00:37:22.04\00:37:27.21 to grow several hundred years after Jesus and the apostles and 00:37:27.24\00:37:30.58 they're not based on any commandment in the Bible. 00:37:30.61\00:37:33.28 Jean: We have a study guide. 00:37:33.31\00:37:34.98 It's called "The Lost Day of History," and it talks about 00:37:35.02\00:37:36.65 the Sabbath and Sunday and how the change occurred. 00:37:36.69\00:37:39.35 We'll be happy to send that again 00:37:39.39\00:37:40.72 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:37:40.76\00:37:42.16 The number is 800-835-6747 or dial #250 on your smartphone, 00:37:42.19\00:37:48.10 say "Bible Answers Live," and ask for the study guide by name. 00:37:48.13\00:37:51.47 It's called "The Lost Day of History." 00:37:51.50\00:37:53.64 All right, we've got John listening in Ohio. 00:37:53.67\00:37:55.80 John, welcome to the program. 00:37:55.84\00:37:58.71 John: Yes, good evening, Pastors. 00:37:58.74\00:38:00.94 Doug: Evening. 00:38:00.98\00:38:02.38 John: My question is: "ARE THE JEWS THAT WE SEE 00:38:02.41\00:38:04.78 IN JERUSALEM NOW, ARE THEY THE ONES THAT CAME OUT 00:38:04.81\00:38:07.12 OF THE EXODUS OR ARE THEY EUROPEANS 00:38:07.15\00:38:10.35 WHO CONVERTED OVER TO JUDAISM AND MOVED BACK 00:38:10.39\00:38:14.42 TO JERUSALEM AFTER IT WAS ABANDONED BY THE ROMANS?" 00:38:14.46\00:38:17.66 Doug: Yeah, well, what happened is the Romans scattered 00:38:17.69\00:38:22.10 the Jews and God foretold this would happen. 00:38:22.13\00:38:25.07 They called it the diaspora. 00:38:25.10\00:38:27.27 The Jews really--that's where you get the idea 00:38:27.30\00:38:29.47 of the wandering Jew. 00:38:29.50\00:38:31.27 Ten of the tribes of Israel were carried off to Assyria long 00:38:31.31\00:38:35.14 before Jesus was born. 00:38:35.18\00:38:37.48 And sometimes, they refer to them as the ten lost tribes. 00:38:37.51\00:38:40.48 Well, they weren't really lost. 00:38:40.52\00:38:42.38 They largely intermarried with the Assyrians and, you know, 00:38:42.42\00:38:45.72 they pretty much were absorbed, whereas the Jews and that comes 00:38:45.75\00:38:50.03 from the tribe of Judah is where you get the word, 00:38:50.06\00:38:52.43 they were scattered but they continued to live in enclaves. 00:38:52.46\00:38:56.56 This is where we get the word "ghetto." 00:38:56.60\00:38:58.43 In Italy, they made all the Jews live in a place called Ghetto 00:38:58.47\00:39:00.94 and now we use that word to talk about, you know, 00:39:00.97\00:39:04.61 all kinds of ethnic ghettos but it was really a Jewish enclave 00:39:04.64\00:39:07.88 because they had to go before dark. 00:39:07.91\00:39:10.11 They had to be back in their city. 00:39:10.15\00:39:11.91 Terribly persecuted, but they did largely remain unique 00:39:11.95\00:39:14.88 and intermarried with other Jews. 00:39:14.92\00:39:16.69 They were very careful about that. 00:39:16.72\00:39:18.82 There was some intermarriage with other races. 00:39:18.85\00:39:21.96 You can tell from Jewish DNA today. 00:39:21.99\00:39:24.16 But we know with some certainty because of DNA that the Jews 00:39:24.19\00:39:28.40 and their--you know, they've got some influence and some blood 00:39:28.43\00:39:32.70 from people they've lived among around the world, but they are 00:39:32.73\00:39:36.20 the original Jews that were the Semitic people that lived in the 00:39:36.24\00:39:40.31 land of Israel and, yes, many of them did end up in Russia, 00:39:40.34\00:39:45.08 in Germany, in Europe and Italy, and everywhere you go 00:39:45.11\00:39:49.55 in the world now you can find a synagogue just about. 00:39:49.58\00:39:52.25 Jean: And if--I think we mentioned this last week, 00:39:52.29\00:39:54.39 the largest concentration of Jews in the world today in not 00:39:54.42\00:39:56.93 in Israel but actually in the United States. 00:39:56.96\00:39:59.13 And then second would be Israel. 00:39:59.16\00:40:01.70 Doug: Hotspots in North America would be New York City, 00:40:01.73\00:40:04.07 Florida, and in Los Angeles, and then Chicago. 00:40:04.10\00:40:09.54 So, and then I think 40% are in Israel. 00:40:09.57\00:40:13.17 The rest are scattered around the planet. 00:40:13.21\00:40:15.61 But, yeah, they are the Jews of the Bible. 00:40:15.64\00:40:18.71 Now, are the people living in Egypt now the same ones 00:40:18.75\00:40:22.28 that built the pyramids? 00:40:22.32\00:40:23.99 No, that's a completely different race. 00:40:24.02\00:40:26.39 So, I just thought I'd share that since you're asking. 00:40:26.42\00:40:29.39 Jean: And if you'd like to learn more about what the Bible 00:40:29.42\00:40:31.46 says about this, we've got a book called "Spiritual Israel," 00:40:31.49\00:40:34.46 and of course we'll send that to anyone who calls and asks: 00:40:34.50\00:40:36.30 800-835-6747. 00:40:36.33\00:40:39.37 Ask for the book. 00:40:39.40\00:40:41.04 It's called, "Spiritual Israel," or dial #250, 00:40:41.07\00:40:43.41 say "Bible Answers Live," and then "Spiritual Israel." 00:40:43.44\00:40:46.84 Rebecca in Michigan, Rebecca, you are on the air. 00:40:46.88\00:40:49.51 Welcome. 00:40:49.54\00:40:51.18 Rebecca: Hello, how are you guys doing? 00:40:51.21\00:40:52.88 Doug: Good. Thank you for calling. 00:40:52.91\00:40:54.42 What's your question tonight? 00:40:54.45\00:40:58.22 Rebecca: I have a question. 00:40:58.25\00:41:00.62 I'm having physical and mental health problems, adversities and 00:41:00.66\00:41:06.46 it brings along with spiritual problems. 00:41:06.49\00:41:08.86 I need prayer and a couple Bible verses to get my mind off it. 00:41:08.90\00:41:12.43 Doug: All right, well, ooh, let's see 00:41:12.47\00:41:13.90 if we can help you with that. 00:41:13.94\00:41:15.44 We'll pray in just a moment but some Bible verses would be: 00:41:15.47\00:41:18.01 Jesus said, "LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED." 00:41:18.04\00:41:21.64 This is John chapter 14. 00:41:21.68\00:41:23.61 "LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED," neither let it be 00:41:23.65\00:41:25.61 afraid, "YOU BELIEVE IN GOD, BELIEVE ALSO IN ME. 00:41:25.65\00:41:28.82 IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS. 00:41:28.85\00:41:31.22 I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU." 00:41:31.25\00:41:32.99 Don't let the troubles of this world frighten you because 00:41:33.02\00:41:36.89 if you give your life to Christ, this world's temporary. 00:41:36.93\00:41:40.53 God's offering you a world that lasts forever. 00:41:40.56\00:41:43.13 The Bible says that God offers us a peace 00:41:43.16\00:41:45.33 that passes understanding. 00:41:45.37\00:41:47.44 I recommend you read the book of Philippians. 00:41:47.47\00:41:50.57 I just finished reading Philippians or I'm almost done. 00:41:50.61\00:41:53.17 And it's just a book of joy. 00:41:53.21\00:41:55.31 And it--Paul just says he's bubbling over with joy and why 00:41:55.34\00:41:59.68 Christians should have joy and peace that passes understanding. 00:41:59.71\00:42:03.05 So you do that, Rebecca, and let me pray for you right now, 00:42:03.08\00:42:06.39 and those listening can join as well. 00:42:06.42\00:42:09.32 Father in heaven, we just want to lift a prayer right now 00:42:09.36\00:42:11.69 in behalf of Rebecca and give her peace. 00:42:11.73\00:42:15.43 I pray that You'll just chase away the clouds or any evil 00:42:15.46\00:42:19.00 influence that might be tormenting her and giving her 00:42:19.03\00:42:22.14 distress, and I pray Your Spirit will be released in her life and 00:42:22.17\00:42:25.67 just help her to sense Your presence, Your angels about her, 00:42:25.71\00:42:28.74 and peace in her heart. 00:42:28.78\00:42:30.11 We ask in Jesus's name, amen. 00:42:30.15\00:42:32.85 Jean: Amen. 00:42:32.88\00:42:34.38 Pastor Doug, we have a book. 00:42:34.42\00:42:35.78 It's called, "Peace in the Midst of the Storm," and we'll be 00:42:35.82\00:42:39.45 happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks, 800-835-6747. 00:42:39.49\00:42:44.03 "How to Have Peace in a World of Worry." 00:42:44.06\00:42:47.03 Doug: Yeah, that's what I was going to say. 00:42:47.10\00:42:48.36 Jean: That's exactly what it is, yeah. 00:42:48.40\00:42:49.70 Doug: Yeah, I got the book on worry. 00:42:49.73\00:42:51.03 Jean: We've got a picture of rain on the front, so I thought 00:42:51.07\00:42:52.77 storm, but it's actually, yeah-- 00:42:52.80\00:42:54.10 Doug: I think you're getting the sermon 00:42:54.14\00:42:55.44 mixed up with the book, yeah. 00:42:55.47\00:42:56.77 Jean: I think that's what it is. 00:42:56.81\00:42:58.11 Doug: I have a book and it's called, "How to Have Peace 00:42:58.14\00:42:59.71 in a World of Worry." 00:42:59.74\00:43:01.11 And that will bring you peace, Rebecca. 00:43:01.14\00:43:02.44 I think it'll help. It's free if you ask for it. 00:43:02.48\00:43:04.51 Jean: 800-835-6747, again, is the number and, of course, you 00:43:04.55\00:43:07.08 can dial #250, ask for the book, "How to Have Peace 00:43:07.12\00:43:11.05 in a World of Worry." 00:43:11.09\00:43:13.15 We've got Sean listening in Michigan. 00:43:13.19\00:43:15.49 Sean, welcome to the program. 00:43:15.52\00:43:17.83 Sean: Thank you so much for taking my call. 00:43:17.86\00:43:19.79 Doug: Yeah. 00:43:19.83\00:43:21.10 Sean: I have a question in regard to the timing of the 7th 00:43:21.13\00:43:24.37 year of the King Artaxerxes. 00:43:24.40\00:43:27.20 I've often heard it's 457 BC, but someone has sent me, like, 00:43:27.24\00:43:31.34 an introduction to the book of Nehemiah and it was from, like, 00:43:31.37\00:43:34.91 a certain analytical Bible dictionary, and it said that 00:43:34.94\00:43:38.18 that was 458 BC, and I didn't know if there's any way to 00:43:38.21\00:43:41.12 verify that from other historical sources, but I wanted 00:43:41.15\00:43:44.22 to make sure it is 457 BC because I know that relates 00:43:44.25\00:43:47.26 to the same prophecy in Daniel 8 and 9. 00:43:47.29\00:43:50.83 Doug: Yeah, well, first of all, when you're looking back 00:43:50.86\00:43:54.46 2500 years, if you're 6 months off, you're doing pretty good. 00:43:54.50\00:44:02.24 So don't--I wouldn't stress over it. 00:44:02.27\00:44:05.04 But I believe it's 457 in the history that I've read and 00:44:05.07\00:44:11.35 Pastor Ross, you might have some other references at your 00:44:11.38\00:44:14.32 fingertips but, you know, I've read a lot of books about this 00:44:14.35\00:44:18.09 because that year's actually pivotal for pinpointing not only 00:44:18.12\00:44:22.86 the Crucifixion of Jesus and the stoning of Stephen and the 00:44:22.89\00:44:27.50 baptism of Jesus but you could even go backwards 30 years 00:44:27.50\00:44:31.50 knowing that Christ would begin His ministry at 30 and get the 00:44:31.53\00:44:33.57 birth of Jesus. 00:44:33.60\00:44:35.44 And so, the only way it works is if it's 457 but that's not 00:44:35.47\00:44:39.67 the reason we believe it happened. 00:44:39.71\00:44:41.61 I think that it's documented in history. 00:44:41.64\00:44:44.65 Now, there were three decrees that talked about restoring 00:44:44.68\00:44:47.78 and building Jerusalem. 00:44:47.82\00:44:49.48 The final one is the decree of Artaxerxes. 00:44:49.52\00:44:51.62 You find it here, I'm looking at it now, 00:44:51.65\00:44:53.29 in Ezra chapter 7, verse 12. 00:44:53.32\00:44:55.96 And I'm sure you've seen that, Sean. 00:44:55.99\00:44:57.89 Jean: And I think one of the things in addition to what 00:44:57.93\00:45:00.10 Pastor Doug said, how we know it's 457, is if you do the math 00:45:00.13\00:45:03.26 and you go back into New Testament times, we know, based 00:45:03.30\00:45:06.10 upon the account given by Luke, we know when Jesus was baptized 00:45:06.13\00:45:09.87 and you trace that back and that was 27 AD, and the only date 00:45:09.90\00:45:13.74 that'll work if you follow the prophecy in Daniel 9, it has 00:45:13.78\00:45:17.48 to begin in 457 BC in order for Christ to be baptized in 27 AD 00:45:17.51\00:45:21.95 and then die in 31. 00:45:21.98\00:45:24.22 So, all the pieces fit together. 00:45:24.25\00:45:25.95 Doug: Yeah, one more thought is the issuing of decrees 00:45:25.99\00:45:29.39 in Bible times, they did not fax them. 00:45:29.42\00:45:32.43 So the king might actually sign a decree and it becomes law 00:45:32.46\00:45:36.83 when he signs 'em. 00:45:36.87\00:45:38.60 Ezra may not get it for months because of the mail system 00:45:38.63\00:45:41.30 from Persia to Israel. 00:45:41.34\00:45:43.54 They had to come by caravan. 00:45:43.57\00:45:45.41 I mean, so things did not happen overnight there. 00:45:45.44\00:45:47.81 So, there's a lot of factors and also, when you begin and end 00:45:47.84\00:45:51.81 a year biblically, is a little different, the way the Persians 00:45:51.85\00:45:55.58 did from the Romans. 00:45:55.62\00:45:57.85 Jean: All right, thank you. 00:45:57.89\00:45:59.42 Next caller that we have is Jerry in Oregon. 00:45:59.45\00:46:01.49 Jerry, welcome to the program. 00:46:01.52\00:46:03.26 Jerry: Good evening, Pastors. 00:46:03.29\00:46:04.86 Doug: Evening. 00:46:04.89\00:46:06.80 Jerry: My question pertains to the mark of the beast 00:46:06.83\00:46:09.36 described in Revelation 14. 00:46:09.40\00:46:13.10 Now, obviously, the context of this is at the end time before 00:46:13.13\00:46:16.50 Jesus's return and before the Millennium. 00:46:16.54\00:46:19.14 But it says: "THOSE WHO WORSHIP THE BEAST, THEY WILL 00:46:19.17\00:46:23.31 BE TORMENTED WITH BURNING SULFUR IN 00:46:23.35\00:46:26.18 THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY ANGELS AND OF THE LAMB. 00:46:26.21\00:46:29.15 AND THE SMOKE OF THEIR TORMENT 00:46:29.18\00:46:30.72 WILL RISE FOR EVER AND EVER. 00:46:30.75\00:46:32.29 THERE WILL BE NO REST DAY OR NIGHT FOR THOSE 00:46:32.32\00:46:34.19 WHO WORSHIP THE BEAST AND ITS IMAGE." 00:46:34.22\00:46:36.79 Okay, that's before the Millennium. 00:46:36.83\00:46:40.03 Then Revelation 20 talks about the resurrection of the 00:46:40.06\00:46:44.53 unrighteous and it says: "AND THE DEVIL, WHO DECEIVED 00:46:44.57\00:46:49.37 THEM, WAS THROWN INTO THE LAKE OF BURNING SULFUR, 00:46:49.40\00:46:52.21 WHERE THE BEAST AND THE FALSE PROPHET 00:46:52.24\00:46:54.08 HAD BEEN THROWN. 00:46:54.11\00:46:56.41 AND THEY WILL BE TORMENTED DAY AND NIGHT 00:46:56.44\00:46:58.58 FOREVER AND EVER." 00:46:58.61\00:46:59.95 And then it talks about the unjust 00:47:00.05\00:47:01.45 going into the lake of fire. 00:47:01.48\00:47:05.29 This is the second death. 00:47:05.32\00:47:07.26 So my question is: "ARE THOSE WHO WORSHIP 00:47:07.29\00:47:11.09 THE BEAST, ARE THEY--THEY'RE NOT--ARE THEY EXCLUDED 00:47:11.13\00:47:15.60 FROM THE RESURRECTION OF THE UNJUST? 00:47:15.63\00:47:19.37 DO THEY SUFFER A GREATER TORMENT THAN THE UNJUST 00:47:19.40\00:47:23.14 IN REVELATION 20 00:47:23.17\00:47:25.01 WHO REALIZE THE SECOND DEATH IN THE LAKE OF FIRE?" 00:47:25.04\00:47:28.38 Doug: Right, you know, I think what'll solve this is when you 00:47:28.41\00:47:32.31 understand that Revelation is not written in chronological 00:47:32.35\00:47:36.12 order and what's happening from one chapter to the next in 00:47:36.15\00:47:39.29 Revelation, they back up--they cover some of the same time 00:47:39.32\00:47:42.86 period and it's the same event when it talks about 00:47:42.89\00:47:47.66 in Revelation 14, "They have no rest day or night." 00:47:47.73\00:47:49.86 It's talking about the punishment of the wicked. 00:47:49.90\00:47:51.70 But then it uses different visions to say the same thing. 00:47:51.73\00:47:54.14 There is only one time when the wicked are cast into the lake 00:47:54.17\00:47:58.51 of fire, and that is the same time as the devil and the beast 00:47:58.54\00:48:02.71 and the false prophet and all that follow the devil. 00:48:02.74\00:48:05.38 Now, proof for that would be is if you look in Matthew 25 00:48:05.41\00:48:10.35 where Jesus tells the parable of the sheep and the goats. 00:48:10.39\00:48:12.89 He says that those that are lost, He says to the unbelievers 00:48:12.92\00:48:17.63 and the goats, "Depart from Me, cursed, into the fire prepared 00:48:17.66\00:48:21.80 for the devil and his angels." 00:48:21.83\00:48:23.40 That's all at one time. 00:48:23.43\00:48:25.03 So, following the Great White Throne Judgment, there is 00:48:25.07\00:48:28.24 a decree when all of the wicked are cast into the lake of fire 00:48:28.27\00:48:32.81 and they are punished according to what each one deserves and it 00:48:32.84\00:48:36.51 says: "The smoke of their torment, it rises up for ever 00:48:36.54\00:48:40.75 and ever," and that doesn't mean for ever and ever we're sitting 00:48:40.78\00:48:42.95 there watching people burn. 00:48:42.98\00:48:44.29 That'd be a terrible thought. 00:48:44.32\00:48:46.02 It means it rises up out of sight as far as you can see. 00:48:46.05\00:48:49.39 And that was a picture they would see often in ancient wars 00:48:49.42\00:48:52.53 as smoke ascended up forever, meaning out of sight. 00:48:52.56\00:48:55.76 And that means that there's no reprieve, no second option. 00:48:55.80\00:49:00.70 It's called the second death and-- 00:49:00.74\00:49:03.47 but it all happens at the same time. 00:49:03.51\00:49:04.97 Jean: We have a study guide. 00:49:05.01\00:49:06.44 It's called, "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:49:06.47\00:49:08.21 Talks about the destruction of the wicked and 00:49:08.24\00:49:10.28 covers these Bible verses. 00:49:10.31\00:49:12.05 The number to call is 800-835-6747, ask for the study 00:49:12.08\00:49:15.92 guide that's called, "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:49:15.95\00:49:18.12 You can also dial #250, say "Bible Answers Live," 00:49:18.15\00:49:21.26 and then ask for that study guide. 00:49:21.29\00:49:23.56 Madeline is listening in Nevada. 00:49:23.59\00:49:25.56 Madeline, welcome to the program. 00:49:25.59\00:49:27.50 Madeline: Hi. 00:49:27.56\00:49:29.23 Okay, my question is I've been divorced four times. 00:49:29.26\00:49:37.74 My first husband got remarried, my second husband got remarried, 00:49:37.77\00:49:42.78 my third husband stayed with the woman 00:49:42.81\00:49:46.01 that he was seeing while we were married, 00:49:46.05\00:49:48.38 so they're girlfriend and boyfriend. 00:49:48.42\00:49:50.62 And my fourth husband got remarried. 00:49:50.65\00:49:52.99 I've been alone, single, for 25 years. 00:49:53.02\00:49:55.99 I'm in my middle 60s. 00:49:56.02\00:49:58.69 If I met somebody, would it be a sin for me to get married again? 00:49:58.73\00:50:04.47 Doug: Well, I don't know. 00:50:04.50\00:50:06.53 And it's not because I don't know what the Bible says. 00:50:06.57\00:50:09.10 You know, this is the kind of thing where you should 00:50:09.14\00:50:12.54 probably talk to a pastor and unpack with him 00:50:12.57\00:50:16.75 what some of the circumstances were. 00:50:16.78\00:50:19.25 You know, for one thing, I--divorce is not 00:50:19.28\00:50:22.28 the unpardonable sin but it usually involves sin as it 00:50:22.32\00:50:26.89 usually involves selfishness or sin on one or both parties. 00:50:26.92\00:50:30.36 You've got the woman that Jesus spoke to there, of Samaria, 00:50:30.39\00:50:34.73 where she said, "I've had--" She had five husbands and she was 00:50:34.76\00:50:39.47 living with someone she wasn't married to, and He reveals 00:50:39.50\00:50:41.07 to her He's the Messiah. 00:50:41.10\00:50:43.00 So, clearly, you know, there's hope in redemption. 00:50:43.04\00:50:45.41 Now, whether she went home and married the guy she was living 00:50:45.44\00:50:48.04 with, doesn't say in the Bible, but I'm hoping she kicked him 00:50:48.08\00:50:50.81 out or married him, 'cause, you know, God means for marriage 00:50:50.85\00:50:55.22 to be a permanent institution. 00:50:55.25\00:50:57.42 I'm sure that's what you were hoping for, 00:50:57.45\00:50:58.99 each time that you got married. 00:50:59.02\00:51:01.09 I do have a book I wrote that talks about some of the nuances 00:51:01.12\00:51:04.16 of this and what the Bible says about marriage, divorce, 00:51:04.19\00:51:07.30 and remarriage, and that's the title of the book. 00:51:07.30\00:51:09.36 We'll send you a free copy if you'd like, Madeline. 00:51:09.40\00:51:11.80 Jean: The book is called, "Marriage, Divorce, 00:51:11.83\00:51:13.87 and Re-marriage." 00:51:13.90\00:51:15.50 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:51:15.54\00:51:18.64 Be sure to ask for that book or just dial #250 00:51:18.67\00:51:21.68 on your smartphone. 00:51:21.71\00:51:23.28 If you're outside of North America, just go to 00:51:23.31\00:51:25.31 the Amazing Facts website and you can read the book for free 00:51:25.35\00:51:28.05 right there online. 00:51:28.08\00:51:29.48 Paul is listening in Tennessee. 00:51:29.52\00:51:31.05 Paul, welcome to the program. 00:51:31.09\00:51:33.12 Paul: Yes, evening, Pastors. 00:51:33.15\00:51:34.76 Thank you, I just had a question. 00:51:34.79\00:51:37.73 I was hoping you guys could just provide a little clarity here 00:51:37.76\00:51:40.16 on a couple of verses I'm confused on. 00:51:40.20\00:51:42.40 Just wondering why Jesus says in Mark 12:27 He is not the God of 00:51:42.43\00:51:49.17 the dead but of the living, and then in Romans 14:9 Paul says 00:51:49.20\00:51:54.44 basically that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 00:51:54.48\00:51:59.41 So, any clarity there would be great. 00:51:59.45\00:52:02.12 Doug: Yeah, well, when it tells us when God says, 00:52:02.15\00:52:05.02 "I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, I'm not the God of 00:52:05.05\00:52:07.26 the dead," the Lord does not look upon the dead 00:52:07.29\00:52:10.96 that are saved as dead. 00:52:10.99\00:52:14.10 He--Jesus said, "The hour is coming in which all those 00:52:14.13\00:52:17.00 that sleep in the grave--Jesus said 00:52:17.03\00:52:20.24 "Our friend Lazarus is sleeping." 00:52:20.27\00:52:22.67 He looks upon saved people that have what we'd call it death, 00:52:22.70\00:52:27.21 Jesus says, "Well, they're asleep 'cause I'm going to raise 00:52:27.24\00:52:29.01 them with a glorified body." 00:52:29.04\00:52:30.68 So, that I think helps provide an understanding, but when Paul 00:52:30.71\00:52:35.72 says He's the God of the dead and the living, you know, 00:52:35.75\00:52:38.95 clearly, there are people that are dead. 00:52:38.99\00:52:40.96 And so, Jesus is speaking more metaphorically 00:52:40.99\00:52:44.43 when He says that, you know, there's no dead-- 00:52:44.46\00:52:46.26 the redeemed are not viewed as dead. 00:52:46.29\00:52:48.40 Jean: And of course, the context of that, at least in 00:52:48.43\00:52:50.20 Mark chapter 12, there were the Sadducees that said there was 00:52:50.23\00:52:54.07 no resurrection, they didn't believe in the resurrection. 00:52:54.10\00:52:55.44 And Jesus is saying, "Well, if there's no resurrection, God is 00:52:55.47\00:52:59.37 not the God of the dead but the God of the living, meaning 00:52:59.41\00:53:01.58 that He will resurrect those who trust in Him." 00:53:01.61\00:53:04.75 So Christ is reaffirming the doctrine or the teaching 00:53:04.78\00:53:07.48 of the resurrection. 00:53:07.52\00:53:09.05 Doug: Yeah, and it says here when Stephen was stoned, 00:53:09.08\00:53:12.32 it says he cried out and said, "'Lord, do not charge them 00:53:12.35\00:53:14.09 with this sin.' 00:53:14.12\00:53:15.89 And when he said this, he fell asleep." 00:53:15.92\00:53:18.09 I mean, does that really mean that he fell asleep 00:53:18.13\00:53:20.66 while they were stoning him? 00:53:20.70\00:53:22.30 Or does it mean he died? 00:53:22.33\00:53:24.67 But he died in a saved condition so he's just sleeping, 00:53:24.70\00:53:27.17 waiting for the resurrection. 00:53:27.20\00:53:29.07 Pastor Ross, do we have a quick question, maybe? 00:53:29.10\00:53:31.47 Jean: All right, we can try. 00:53:31.51\00:53:32.91 Who do we have, let's see. 00:53:32.94\00:53:34.54 Here we go: Bobbie in California. 00:53:34.58\00:53:36.78 Bobbie: Yes, hello. 00:53:36.81\00:53:39.18 My question was regarding Revelation 3:9. 00:53:39.21\00:53:43.15 I would like some clarity on this because I'm not sure 00:53:43.18\00:53:46.25 what I'm reading. 00:53:46.29\00:53:48.32 Doug: All right, let's read that real quick. 00:53:48.36\00:53:50.16 In Revelation chapter 3, verse 9, it says: "INDEED 00:53:50.19\00:53:53.46 I'LL MAKE THOSE OF THE SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN, 00:53:53.50\00:53:56.03 WHO SAY THEY ARE JEWS AND ARE NOT, BUT LIE-- 00:53:56.06\00:53:58.47 INDEED I'LL MAKE THEM COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE 00:53:58.50\00:54:00.74 YOUR FEET, AND TO KNOW THAT I HAVE LOVED YOU." 00:54:00.77\00:54:04.01 Well, there was a group of apostate Christians and, 00:54:04.04\00:54:08.71 you know, true Christians, Revelation 00:54:08.74\00:54:11.08 calls the children of Israel. 00:54:11.11\00:54:13.01 Counterfeit, it says the synagogue of Satan. 00:54:13.05\00:54:15.92 And I don't know if these were some from the tribe-- 00:54:15.95\00:54:18.29 the Nicolaitans which--a thing God hates, but-- 00:54:18.32\00:54:21.49 Jean: Yeah, and it's talking about those who come 00:54:21.52\00:54:23.63 and worship before your feet. 00:54:23.66\00:54:25.46 If you look at the timeframe here, it is the church of 00:54:25.49\00:54:27.36 Philadelphia when there was a great revival in studying 00:54:27.40\00:54:30.33 the Bible, in studying Bible truth. 00:54:30.37\00:54:32.17 It did occur in the protestant nations of the Earth, around 00:54:32.20\00:54:35.10 the early 1800s in particular, and it was recognized by other 00:54:35.14\00:54:38.74 nations that God was blessing, for example, the United States 00:54:38.77\00:54:41.84 and the other Protestant nations. 00:54:41.88\00:54:44.31 And in that sense, it talks about those who are opposed 00:54:44.35\00:54:46.58 to the truth will come to an understanding. 00:54:46.61\00:54:48.32 Doug: Yeah. Very good. 00:54:48.35\00:54:49.88 Hope that helps a little bit. 00:54:49.92\00:54:51.39 We needed to give some quick answers. 00:54:51.42\00:54:53.15 For those that are listening, if you're on satellite, God bless. 00:54:53.19\00:54:57.03 You have a good evening 00:54:57.06\00:54:58.43 and we'll see you in study next week. 00:54:58.46\00:55:00.23 For the rest of you, you stay by. 00:55:00.26\00:55:01.76 We're coming back for just a few moments 00:55:01.80\00:55:03.90 of rapid-fire Bible questions. 00:55:03.93\00:55:06.23 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:09.84\00:55:12.34 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:12.37\00:55:15.94 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:15.98\00:55:19.85 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:19.88\00:55:24.12 Jean: Hello, friends, and welcome back 00:55:25.72\00:55:27.06 to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:27.09\00:55:29.09 And we want to thank those who stayed by for the email 00:55:29.12\00:55:32.13 questions that you sent in. 00:55:32.16\00:55:33.90 If you have an email question you'd like to send us, it's just 00:55:33.93\00:55:36.10 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:36.13\00:55:40.27 So, Pastor Doug, here's our first question for this evening. 00:55:40.30\00:55:42.90 The question is, Robert asks: "Christians say that they 00:55:42.94\00:55:46.57 believe in God and if He tells us to do something He'll give us 00:55:46.61\00:55:50.71 the power to do it, but Jesus said that we need to be perfect, 00:55:50.75\00:55:53.88 as our Father in heaven. 00:55:53.92\00:55:55.48 How do we do that?" 00:55:55.52\00:55:56.89 Doug: Well, it's not talking about being perfect as in, 00:55:56.92\00:55:59.82 like, a stainless steel robot. 00:55:59.85\00:56:01.89 If you read that same verse there in the Gospel of Luke, 00:56:01.92\00:56:04.49 it says: "BE THEREFORE MERCIFUL, 00:56:04.53\00:56:06.76 EVEN AS YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN IS MERCIFUL." 00:56:06.80\00:56:09.33 God wants us to have a perfect love, a perfect mercy, and to 00:56:09.36\00:56:12.70 just completely trust Him. 00:56:12.73\00:56:14.67 Jean: All right, another question. 00:56:14.70\00:56:16.20 Alex asked: "DOES THE BIBLE SAY THAT ADAM AND EVE 00:56:16.24\00:56:18.54 ATE FROM THE TREE OF LIFE, 00:56:18.57\00:56:19.91 AND IF YES, WHY DIDN'T THEY BECOME IMMORTAL?" 00:56:19.94\00:56:22.84 Doug: Well, immortality, it seems, they needed to continue 00:56:22.88\00:56:27.62 to eat from that tree because the fact that, I'm sure when 00:56:27.65\00:56:32.12 Adam and Eve were first created, and the time they spent in the 00:56:32.15\00:56:35.56 garden, I'm surprised that they would eat from 00:56:35.59\00:56:37.99 the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and not have eaten 00:56:38.03\00:56:40.66 from the tree of life. 00:56:40.70\00:56:42.40 I think evidence that they did eat from the tree of life is 00:56:42.43\00:56:44.50 that they and their immediate posterity lived hundreds of 00:56:44.53\00:56:48.57 years, and that's why He tells us the tree of life will be 00:56:48.60\00:56:51.77 in the new Earth. 00:56:51.81\00:56:53.51 We'll probably continue to come at least once every couple 00:56:53.54\00:56:56.11 hundred years, and eat from it. 00:56:56.14\00:56:58.11 Jean: And then our final question here, Kenny's asking 00:56:58.15\00:57:01.02 from Papua New Guinea: "HOW DO I LOVE GOD MORE?" 00:57:01.05\00:57:04.05 Doug: Oh, that's a great question. 00:57:04.09\00:57:06.79 Well, for one thing, it says that we love Him because He 00:57:06.82\00:57:10.39 first loved us. 00:57:10.43\00:57:11.83 And so, as we behold His love for us, 00:57:11.86\00:57:14.10 our love for Him will grow. 00:57:14.13\00:57:16.73 The better we know Him, the more we'll love Him. 00:57:16.77\00:57:19.13 You read in Romans chapter 10, verse 17, it says: "Faith comes 00:57:19.17\00:57:23.41 by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." 00:57:23.44\00:57:25.94 And so as we read about Jesus and the Word of God 00:57:25.97\00:57:29.54 and we get to know Him better, that inspires us with love. 00:57:29.58\00:57:34.22 It's the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. 00:57:34.25\00:57:37.49 As we look at His love and His goodness, 00:57:37.52\00:57:39.55 that leads us to repentance. 00:57:39.59\00:57:41.62 And it increases our love for Him. 00:57:41.66\00:57:44.46 And something else happens is as we share God's goodness 00:57:44.49\00:57:47.96 and love with other people, then it inspires us to love Him more. 00:57:48.00\00:57:52.53 When we look at the cross and we see what He paid for us, and 00:57:52.57\00:57:55.97 His sacrifice, probably the best place to witness and understand 00:57:56.00\00:58:00.94 the sacrifice of Jesus is by looking at the cross. 00:58:00.98\00:58:03.68 Well, listening friends, thank you for your special questions. 00:58:03.71\00:58:06.82 You can still email questions to us anytime during the week, 00:58:06.85\00:58:09.65 but for the rest of you, God bless. 00:58:09.68\00:58:11.89 We'll study His Word together again next week.
