00:00:51.58\00:00:54.15 Every time a jet plane lands, you see a little puff of white 00:00:54.18\00:00:57.49 smoke as the wheels make contact with the ground. 00:00:57.52\00:01:00.69 This is because each tire leaves about one and a half pounds of 00:01:00.72\00:01:04.79 burnt rubber on the runway aircraft. 00:01:04.83\00:01:06.83 Aircraft tires are stationary until touchdown, when the sudden 00:01:06.86\00:01:10.80 contact with the ground causes tremendous friction, quickly 00:01:10.83\00:01:14.20 whipping them up to speeds of more than 150 miles an hour, and 00:01:14.24\00:01:18.07 producing temperatures of around 500 degrees Fahrenheit. 00:01:18.11\00:01:21.68 Jumbo planes like the Airbus 380 with 22 tires leave as much as 00:01:21.71\00:01:26.95 30 pounds of rubber on the runway with each landing. 00:01:26.98\00:01:31.15 In case you're wondering, a jet tire's only good for about 00:01:31.19\00:01:34.32 200 landings before it needs to be retreaded or replaced. 00:01:34.36\00:01:38.06 As you might guess, this rapid buildup of rubber can make 00:01:38.09\00:01:41.63 runways very slick when wet. 00:01:41.66\00:01:43.83 At larger airports, specialized crews must go out at night three 00:01:43.87\00:01:47.37 or four times weekly to remove hundreds of pounds of excess 00:01:47.40\00:01:51.31 tire rubber from the runways and clean it from the runway lights. 00:01:51.34\00:01:55.21 It's estimated that 10,000 pounds of aircraft tire rubber 00:01:55.24\00:01:59.91 is removed from US airports runways annually. 00:01:59.95\00:02:04.09 You've probably seen that Pastor Ross, when the planes come in, 00:02:04.12\00:02:07.69 you see a big poof when they first make contact. 00:02:07.72\00:02:09.72 Jean Ross: That's right. 00:02:09.76\00:02:11.66 You know, you always wonder, why don't they figure out a way 00:02:11.69\00:02:13.63 to turn the tires? 00:02:13.66\00:02:15.20 But I guess they're going to have to spin them real fast to 00:02:15.23\00:02:17.27 get 150 miles or whatever it is to touch down without 00:02:17.30\00:02:19.80 the puff of smoke. 00:02:19.83\00:02:21.90 But yeah, it's sort of a standard thing. 00:02:21.94\00:02:23.81 Doug: I was wondering the same thing, maybe they could 00:02:23.84\00:02:25.64 find some air pressure to get them spinning. 00:02:25.67\00:02:28.04 So that there's not so much friction when they make 00:02:28.08\00:02:29.44 contact, but yeah, I'm glad that they clean off the rubber 00:02:29.48\00:02:33.62 every now and then. 00:02:33.65\00:02:35.88 And you know, they have to wait until the last planes come in at 00:02:35.92\00:02:39.29 night, you know, sometimes it might be two in the morning, 00:02:39.32\00:02:41.79 then the crew gets out there real quick and the lights on and 00:02:41.82\00:02:44.33 they clean off the runway and get it ready for the next day 00:02:44.36\00:02:46.90 or next few days. 00:02:46.93\00:02:49.10 And it just reminded me that, you know, as we go through 00:02:49.13\00:02:51.40 this life, even though we come to the Lord and we've accepted 00:02:51.43\00:02:54.94 Jesus and we're baptized and our sins are washed away, 00:02:54.97\00:02:58.01 sometimes we need a refreshing, we need to be re-cleansed. 00:02:58.04\00:03:03.08 And you know, Jesus actually established something at the 00:03:03.11\00:03:07.75 Last Supper where He washed the disciple's feet. 00:03:07.78\00:03:11.42 And He said you know, not only are we to remember the Lord's 00:03:11.45\00:03:16.06 death and sacrifice through the communion of the bread and the 00:03:16.09\00:03:19.83 grape juice, but Jesus said that "If I your Lord and master have 00:03:19.86\00:03:23.97 washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet." 00:03:24.00\00:03:26.60 And so it's like a mini baptism. 00:03:26.63\00:03:29.30 But it makes me think of that verse that "If we confess our 00:03:29.34\00:03:33.48 sins," and this is 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is 00:03:33.51\00:03:37.55 faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us 00:03:37.58\00:03:42.18 from all unrighteousness." 00:03:42.22\00:03:44.15 So we're cleansed by coming to the Lord, we repent and we 00:03:44.19\00:03:48.42 confess our sins, but then why do we need baptism? 00:03:48.46\00:03:52.26 Jean: Well, you know, you mentioned Pastor, that the 00:03:52.29\00:03:54.66 communion or the foot washing is a miniature baptism but the 00:03:54.73\00:03:56.83 Bible's clear that when one receives Christ as is personal 00:03:56.87\00:04:00.37 Savior, he needs to make a public profession of that 00:04:00.40\00:04:03.37 and that is through baptism. 00:04:03.41\00:04:04.84 Jesus said, "Except a man, be born of water and of 00:04:04.87\00:04:07.18 the Spirit cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 00:04:07.21\00:04:10.31 So that public confession of our faith to be baptized by 00:04:10.35\00:04:13.52 immersion following the example of Jesus, it's an important step 00:04:13.55\00:04:16.89 and it's a wonderful step for the one being baptized. 00:04:16.92\00:04:19.49 It's a new beginning, it's cleansing from the past, 00:04:19.52\00:04:22.36 you can claim the promise of the verse you just read 00:04:22.39\00:04:24.19 that "If we confess our sins, 00:04:24.23\00:04:25.89 Christ will forgive us and cleanse us," and 00:04:25.93\00:04:27.46 you come up out of the water and you have a new walk with Christ. 00:04:27.50\00:04:31.20 It's an exciting experience. 00:04:31.23\00:04:32.70 Doug: And then when we have the Lord's Supper, communion, 00:04:32.73\00:04:36.44 and even foot washing, that's sort of like cleaning 00:04:36.47\00:04:38.21 the runway every now and then. 00:04:38.24\00:04:40.01 Jean: That's right. 00:04:40.04\00:04:41.64 Doug: Well, I think we have a free offer 00:04:41.68\00:04:43.24 that talks about that. 00:04:43.28\00:04:44.95 Jean: We do, it's one of the amazing fact study guides, 00:04:44.98\00:04:46.75 and it's called "Purity and Power." 00:04:46.78\00:04:48.42 And this is our free gift to anyone who is listening, 00:04:48.45\00:04:50.12 all you need to do is call the number 800-835-6747 00:04:50.15\00:04:53.69 and ask for offer number 121. 00:04:53.72\00:04:56.49 And we'll be happy to send that to you. 00:04:56.52\00:04:58.43 That's 800-835-6747, ask for the book that's called 00:04:58.46\00:05:01.60 "Purity and Power." 00:05:01.63\00:05:03.70 It's actually part of our Amazing Facts Study Guide 00:05:03.73\00:05:05.53 series, or another way to get it is simply by dialing #250 00:05:05.57\00:05:10.47 on your smartphone, say, "Bible Answers Live" and 00:05:10.51\00:05:13.34 then ask for the gift and we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:05:13.38\00:05:15.84 Doug: Well, let's begin this broadcast with prayer, 00:05:15.88\00:05:17.95 then we have other exciting announcements 00:05:17.98\00:05:19.61 to share along the way. 00:05:19.65\00:05:21.25 Jean: All right, let's start with prayer. 00:05:21.28\00:05:22.88 Dear Father once again, we are grateful for the opportunity to 00:05:22.92\00:05:24.52 be able to open up your Word and study. 00:05:24.55\00:05:26.99 As we always do Lord, we ask for your presence to be with us here 00:05:27.02\00:05:29.39 in the studio and also be with those who are listening 00:05:29.42\00:05:31.49 if they're in their car at home, wherever they might be. 00:05:31.53\00:05:33.83 And Lord, lead us into a clear understanding of truth 00:05:33.86\00:05:36.30 for the Bible says, you shall know the truth 00:05:36.33\00:05:38.00 and the truth will set you free. 00:05:38.03\00:05:39.90 Thank you for your promise to be with us. 00:05:39.93\00:05:41.70 In Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:41.74\00:05:43.37 Doug: Amen. 00:05:43.41\00:05:44.97 Jean: Well, we're ready to go to the phone lines, 00:05:45.01\00:05:46.41 our first caller this evening is calling from Texas. 00:05:46.44\00:05:47.94 We got Jerry in Texas. 00:05:47.98\00:05:49.51 Jerry, welcome to the program. 00:05:49.54\00:05:51.48 Jerry: Hey, thanks. 00:05:51.51\00:05:53.28 You know, science always tries to outdo God. 00:05:53.31\00:05:56.55 Is science able to look back in time the days of Hezekiah 00:05:56.58\00:06:01.76 when the sun was turned back 10 degrees? 00:06:01.79\00:06:06.06 Doug: You know, I was thinking about that and I don't 00:06:06.09\00:06:11.03 know that science would be able to do it because you know, what 00:06:11.07\00:06:14.84 markers would they have in the sky that would demonstrate that? 00:06:14.87\00:06:18.84 I was wondering, was there any historical account? 00:06:18.87\00:06:22.68 'Cause Hezekiah, he lived, what? 00:06:22.71\00:06:24.31 700 BC you'd think maybe there was some other nation. 00:06:24.35\00:06:27.78 Now it does say in the Bible that the Maggi 00:06:27.82\00:06:32.85 in Babylon noticed it. 00:06:32.89\00:06:36.09 Of course, everyone noticed it, and they actually sent 00:06:36.12\00:06:38.76 emissaries to find out about the wonder that had been done. 00:06:38.79\00:06:42.03 So in the Bible it says other nations took note of it but I 00:06:42.06\00:06:45.63 don't know of extra biblical history where it's mentioned. 00:06:45.67\00:06:50.64 Jean: I mean, God can do anything but if you stop 00:06:50.67\00:06:52.77 the earth spinning on its on its axis for that period of time 00:06:52.81\00:06:56.31 and then started it up again, there would be nothing in nature 00:06:56.34\00:06:59.48 to indicate that other than just the long day that the people 00:06:59.51\00:07:03.85 had when they were there. 00:07:03.89\00:07:05.59 Doug: Yeah, and people would say, well, 00:07:05.62\00:07:07.06 that was a really long day. 00:07:07.09\00:07:08.42 Jean: Yeah, I know. 00:07:08.46\00:07:10.23 Doug: I've had those days so it'd be hard to find Jerry. 00:07:10.26\00:07:12.73 I haven't heard of anything, but I might poke around 00:07:12.76\00:07:15.36 on the Internet and see if there's anything in history. 00:07:15.40\00:07:17.83 Jean: Next caller that we have is Louis from Florida. 00:07:17.87\00:07:19.97 Louis, welcome to the program. 00:07:20.00\00:07:21.70 Louis: Hello, pastors, how are you doing? 00:07:21.74\00:07:23.44 Doug: Oh, it's Louis, hi. 00:07:23.47\00:07:24.81 Jean: Hi, Louis 00:07:24.84\00:07:26.31 Doug: Yes and your question. 00:07:26.34\00:07:28.64 Louis: My question is from Revelation 21 verse 4, 00:07:28.68\00:07:32.38 the ending where it says "The former things have passed away." 00:07:32.41\00:07:35.48 How much are we to actually remember, like our families 00:07:35.52\00:07:39.55 or anything like that? 00:07:39.59\00:07:41.42 Do we remember anything? 00:07:41.46\00:07:43.16 Doug: Well, I think when it says, "The former things 00:07:43.19\00:07:45.46 have passed away," it's telling us that 00:07:45.49\00:07:48.43 all the painful memories will be gone. 00:07:48.46\00:07:51.93 God is going to wipe away our tears. 00:07:51.97\00:07:54.07 I think that not only are we hurt by painful events, we often 00:07:54.10\00:07:58.67 are hurt when we remember them. 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.84 And, you know, you can see tears coming to a person's eyes 00:08:00.88\00:08:03.48 when they talk about someone they love that passed away. 00:08:03.51\00:08:06.08 They're just visiting that in their mind and it brings pain. 00:08:06.11\00:08:09.12 But I think that God is going to cleanse us 00:08:09.15\00:08:12.69 from the painful memories. 00:08:12.72\00:08:14.42 And it's not that He's going to brainwash us, I think our minds 00:08:14.46\00:08:18.29 are going to be so filled with the glory of the future 00:08:18.33\00:08:21.40 that we won't be looking back. 00:08:21.43\00:08:23.30 It's like Paul says, "Forgetting those things that are behind, 00:08:23.33\00:08:26.53 I press on." 00:08:26.57\00:08:28.87 And so God wants His people to be forward thinking, 00:08:28.90\00:08:31.27 once you repent of your sins, you leave them there, 00:08:31.31\00:08:34.38 God buries them in the depths of the sea, we move forward. 00:08:34.41\00:08:36.68 Jean: And you know, that's true even in life today. 00:08:36.71\00:08:39.11 People have gone through some difficult experiences 00:08:39.15\00:08:41.42 but the pain does wear off to some degree. 00:08:41.45\00:08:44.15 And here the promise in the new Earth are those painful 00:08:44.19\00:08:47.79 experiences or memories will eventually fade away 00:08:47.82\00:08:50.26 and there'll be nothing to take away from the joy and just 00:08:50.29\00:08:53.40 the worship, the experience of being eternally in heaven. 00:08:53.43\00:08:56.77 Doug: Amen. 00:08:56.80\00:08:58.60 Jean: All right, thank you for your call. 00:08:58.63\00:09:00.20 Next caller that we have is Gary listening in Illinois. 00:09:00.24\00:09:01.90 Gary, welcome to the program. 00:09:01.94\00:09:03.41 Gary: Thank you. 00:09:03.44\00:09:05.41 My question is about our covenant with God. 00:09:05.44\00:09:08.24 I know the first one was circumcision and then 00:09:08.28\00:09:10.98 the Ten Commandments and now Jesus in Matthew 26 verse 28 00:09:11.01\00:09:15.48 says, "This is the blood of the New Covenant, which is shed 00:09:15.52\00:09:18.89 for the many, for the forgiveness of sins." 00:09:18.92\00:09:22.02 So to understand that I go to 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our 00:09:22.06\00:09:26.36 sins, He's faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse 00:09:26.39\00:09:30.00 us from all unrighteousness." 00:09:30.03\00:09:32.07 So the New Covenant is Jesus forgiving sin 00:09:32.10\00:09:35.14 in view of sanctification. 00:09:35.17\00:09:37.41 Am I right? 00:09:37.44\00:09:38.94 Doug: No one is saved by the law. 00:09:38.97\00:09:41.31 In the Old Testament, they were saved by faith. 00:09:41.34\00:09:43.75 In the Old Covenant though, it talks about God made an 00:09:43.78\00:09:46.65 agreement with His people where it says, "Here's my law." 00:09:46.68\00:09:49.98 And the people said, "All the Lord has said, we will do." 00:09:50.02\00:09:53.56 But they broke the law almost immediately, 00:09:53.59\00:09:55.92 they made a golden calf. 00:09:55.96\00:09:57.79 And then God said in Jeremiah, he said, 00:09:57.83\00:10:00.03 "I'll make a New Covenant with the house of Israel. 00:10:00.06\00:10:02.06 I'll write my law on their hearts." 00:10:02.10\00:10:04.10 Now, the covenants were all sealed with blood. 00:10:04.13\00:10:07.00 In the Old Testament, the Old Covenant was sealed with 00:10:07.04\00:10:09.34 a symbol for Christ's blood, it was the blood of a lamb. 00:10:09.37\00:10:12.27 That's why when Jesus got baptized, John the Baptist said, 00:10:12.31\00:10:15.11 "This is the Lamb of God that takes away 00:10:15.14\00:10:18.01 the sin of the world." 00:10:18.05\00:10:19.51 And so Jesus is basically saying, "The New Covenant, 00:10:19.55\00:10:22.75 it's not based on a lamb's blood, it's based 00:10:22.78\00:10:25.22 on the precious blood of the Son of God." 00:10:25.25\00:10:27.76 Yes, and it's through that we're both justified and sanctified, 00:10:27.79\00:10:31.56 as you mentioned, through faith in that our sins are forgiven 00:10:31.59\00:10:34.56 and we walk in a newness of life. 00:10:34.56\00:10:37.17 So hopefully that helps. 00:10:37.20\00:10:39.47 You know, we have a really good book that I think you'd enjoy 00:10:39.50\00:10:41.87 and it talks about that covenant. 00:10:41.90\00:10:45.31 It's a sermon book and I think it's got a little lamb on 00:10:45.34\00:10:48.58 the cover and talks about the plan of salvation 00:10:48.61\00:10:52.11 and what that New Covenant is. 00:10:52.15\00:10:54.22 And if you'd like, we'll be happy to send you 00:10:54.25\00:10:56.55 a copy of that, Gary. 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.32 And you call and ask for the book on the New covenant. 00:10:58.35\00:11:00.76 Jean: A matter of fact, here it is, it's called 00:11:00.79\00:11:03.19 "Blood Behind The Veil." 00:11:03.22\00:11:04.66 It's got a lamb on the cover. Doug: That's the one. 00:11:04.69\00:11:07.83 Jean: That's probably the one you're thinking of. 00:11:07.86\00:11:09.16 Okay, that's the free offer we'll be happy to send it to 00:11:09.20\00:11:10.80 anyone wanting to learn more about the New covenant. 00:11:10.83\00:11:12.50 It's called "Blood Behind The Veil." 00:11:12.53\00:11:14.27 And to get it, just call the number 800-835-6747. 00:11:14.30\00:11:18.24 You can answer the book. 00:11:18.27\00:11:19.91 It's called "Blood Behind The Veil" or dial #250 on your 00:11:19.94\00:11:23.04 Smartphone say "Bible Answers Live," ask for that by name, 00:11:23.08\00:11:26.21 "Blood Behind The Veil," 00:11:26.25\00:11:28.48 and we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:11:28.52\00:11:30.02 All right, next caller that we have is Philip 00:11:30.05\00:11:31.62 listening in Arkansas. 00:11:31.65\00:11:32.99 Philip, you're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:11:33.02\00:11:34.59 Phillip: All right, thank you. 00:11:34.62\00:11:36.52 My question is in Revelation 14, after the three angels messages, 00:11:36.56\00:11:41.20 you get to verse 13 and it says, "Blessed are the dead who die 00:11:41.23\00:11:47.04 in the Lord from now on." 00:11:47.07\00:11:48.90 So my question is, what's different about those who die 00:11:48.94\00:11:53.27 in the Lord after the three angels messages versus those 00:11:53.31\00:11:55.48 who have always died in the Lord? 00:11:55.51\00:11:57.28 Jean: Yeah, good question. 00:11:57.31\00:11:59.01 You know, I think it's referring to a time of trouble that 00:11:59.05\00:12:00.78 He's coming upon the earth. 00:12:00.82\00:12:02.58 According to Daniel chapter 12, it says, "When Michael stands 00:12:02.62\00:12:04.82 up, there'll be a time of trouble worse than 00:12:04.85\00:12:06.42 the world has ever seen." 00:12:06.45\00:12:07.82 We know that God's people will be protected during that time 00:12:07.86\00:12:11.16 but it's still going to be a difficult time 00:12:11.19\00:12:13.70 for a lot of people. 00:12:13.73\00:12:15.63 I mean, you've got the seven last plagues that are pouring 00:12:15.66\00:12:17.33 out, there's a lack of food, the water's turning to blood, 00:12:17.37\00:12:20.27 you can just read the description that that has there. 00:12:20.30\00:12:22.70 And here is sort of a blessing pronounced upon those who 00:12:22.74\00:12:26.24 have faith in God that are laid to rest before the final time 00:12:26.27\00:12:29.88 of trouble, their reward is in heaven. 00:12:29.91\00:12:32.41 And it's true everyone who's died in faith, they are blessed. 00:12:32.45\00:12:35.32 But in the context of the last days and the events that are 00:12:35.35\00:12:38.25 taking place, there's actually a blessing for those who are laid 00:12:38.29\00:12:41.42 to rest before the final events occur. 00:12:41.46\00:12:43.89 Doug: That's right. 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.96 Yeah and I think I was looking for the verse it's in Isaiah 00:12:45.99\00:12:49.63 where it says that "None considers that some of the 00:12:49.66\00:12:53.07 people that die are safe from the wrath to come" and back in 00:12:53.10\00:12:56.00 Isaiah's day he knew the Babylonian captivity was coming. 00:12:56.04\00:12:59.24 He says, "Those that die before that it's going 00:12:59.27\00:13:01.31 to be a blessing." 00:13:01.34\00:13:03.11 And before the great time of trouble, which you find in 00:13:03.14\00:13:05.08 Revelation 14, as you say, it's going to be a blessing for 00:13:05.11\00:13:08.52 those to go to sleep and not have to experience that. 00:13:08.55\00:13:10.79 Jean: Does that help Philip? 00:13:10.82\00:13:12.55 Phillip: Yeah, that makes sense. 00:13:12.59\00:13:14.66 I appreciate it. 00:13:14.69\00:13:16.36 Jean: Next caller that we have is Anna listening in Oregon. 00:13:16.39\00:13:19.39 Anna, welcome to the program. 00:13:19.43\00:13:21.33 Anna: Evening Pastors. 00:13:21.36\00:13:23.40 My question tonight is, who are the twenty four elders in 00:13:23.43\00:13:28.74 Revelation? 00:13:28.77\00:13:30.81 Are they elders that were resurrected when--after Jesus 00:13:30.84\00:13:37.55 or are they beings from other planets? 00:13:37.58\00:13:41.02 Doug: Well, there are two theories. 00:13:41.05\00:13:42.88 I'll tell you what one theory is that, you know, when Christ died 00:13:42.92\00:13:46.76 and rose again, actually it says when He died there was an 00:13:46.79\00:13:49.46 earthquake and many graves were opened. 00:13:49.49\00:13:51.43 And some of the saints, or many of the saints that slept around 00:13:51.46\00:13:54.10 Jerusalem were raised and ascended to heaven with him. 00:13:54.13\00:13:56.90 Some have thought, well, maybe those 24 elders are composed of 00:13:56.93\00:13:59.90 some of the saints that were buried around Jerusalem that 00:13:59.93\00:14:04.04 came forth with Christ. 00:14:04.07\00:14:06.71 That would be a pretty narrow sample of the people that God 00:14:06.74\00:14:10.68 would put around the throne. 00:14:10.71\00:14:12.48 The other theory, and this is probably the one I ascribe to, 00:14:12.51\00:14:16.69 is that the Bible tells us in Job "There was a day when the 00:14:16.72\00:14:20.02 sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, 00:14:20.06\00:14:22.59 sons of God. 00:14:22.62\00:14:24.43 And they are like the leaders of unfallen worlds. 00:14:24.46\00:14:28.00 Adam was called the Son of God and he was to have dominion of 00:14:28.03\00:14:30.20 this world but he gave it to the devil. 00:14:30.23\00:14:32.67 So instead of Adam showing up, Satan comes to this heavenly 00:14:32.70\00:14:36.44 meeting again, I'm talking about Job chapter 1. 00:14:36.47\00:14:38.87 And so it's been believed that, you know, these 24 elders are 00:14:38.91\00:14:44.15 really representatives of God's unfallen cosmos out there 00:14:44.18\00:14:47.88 that have come. 00:14:47.92\00:14:49.72 It's also a play on what you see. 00:14:49.75\00:14:52.15 When I say play on, it's like there's a symbol 00:14:52.19\00:14:54.32 in the Old Testament. 00:14:54.36\00:14:55.92 You read where both David and Solomon, they had 00:14:55.96\00:14:58.73 leadership that surrounded them in the number of 24, 00:14:58.76\00:15:02.03 which is of course 12 times 12. 00:15:02.06\00:15:03.77 It's symbolizing, you know, God's leadership in heaven. 00:15:03.80\00:15:07.04 Jean: Yeah, maybe just one more thing on that pastor, 00:15:07.07\00:15:08.97 like Isaiah chapter 24 verse 23, this is the Old Testament. 00:15:09.00\00:15:12.44 It says, "The Lord shall reign before His elders gloriously 00:15:12.47\00:15:16.28 and that's the Old Testament. 00:15:16.31\00:15:18.15 And you read in Revelation chapter 4, you have the 24 00:15:18.18\00:15:21.22 elders that are already in heaven and Christ doesn't 00:15:21.25\00:15:24.55 appear until chapter 5. 00:15:24.59\00:15:26.22 And so they're already in heaven waiting for Jesus 00:15:26.25\00:15:28.36 and He appears as the lamb as it had been slain. 00:15:28.39\00:15:30.06 So it appears as though these elders, as you said, 00:15:30.09\00:15:32.06 are representatives of the Unfallen worlds, and there they 00:15:32.09\00:15:35.66 are, that great council that are witnessing the cosmic conflict 00:15:35.70\00:15:39.70 between Christ and Satan. 00:15:39.73\00:15:41.67 Doug: All right, next caller that we have is Glenn 00:15:41.70\00:15:43.64 listening in Ohio. 00:15:43.67\00:15:45.14 Glenn, welcome to the program. 00:15:45.17\00:15:46.61 Glen: Thank you for taking my call, gentlemen. 00:15:46.64\00:15:49.28 I have a word in my mind a religious word, but in a Bible 00:15:49.31\00:15:54.35 study one night a couple years ago, I asked the question and 00:15:54.38\00:15:58.15 everybody giggled until nobody could give an answer 00:15:58.19\00:16:01.16 to the question. 00:16:01.19\00:16:03.22 The word, you see it with a definite article only, 00:16:03.26\00:16:05.16 you never see it with an indefinite article. 00:16:05.19\00:16:08.10 You see it as an adverb, as a noun, as a direct object 00:16:08.13\00:16:12.93 but I don't know what the word means or what it is. 00:16:12.97\00:16:17.47 Can you help me? 00:16:17.51\00:16:19.57 The word is glory. 00:16:19.61\00:16:21.94 Doug: Glory, I think I can. 00:16:21.98\00:16:24.65 You find the word glory in the Bible many times 00:16:24.68\00:16:28.88 and it's talking about matter of fact, I'm looking right now, 00:16:28.92\00:16:31.75 and it says 379 times it appears. 00:16:31.79\00:16:34.96 When you think of glory, think of something that is bright 00:16:34.99\00:16:38.03 but in the Bible context, it's not just bright, 00:16:38.06\00:16:40.43 it's a symbol of holy splendor. 00:16:40.46\00:16:43.83 And so you've got this brilliant holy splendor around the Lord. 00:16:43.87\00:16:49.57 And it says, "When Moses came down from the mountain 00:16:49.60\00:16:53.21 after talking to God, his face was shining." 00:16:53.24\00:16:55.81 And then Paul talks about, you know, the glory that Moses had 00:16:55.84\00:17:00.22 was so bright, he veiled his face but how much more 00:17:00.25\00:17:02.62 glorious is Christ? 00:17:02.65\00:17:04.32 And you have a lot of examples of this but I think the word may 00:17:04.35\00:17:08.62 be used a few different ways but that's 00:17:08.66\00:17:10.16 probably the most prominent. 00:17:10.19\00:17:11.59 Jean: You've got the glory, as you mentioned, 00:17:11.63\00:17:13.43 the glory of God. 00:17:13.46\00:17:14.93 This power, this presence, the Bible speaks to that, 00:17:14.96\00:17:17.17 but then the Bible also tells us to give God glory. 00:17:17.20\00:17:20.60 So not only does God have glory in and of Himself, 00:17:20.64\00:17:24.21 but we can give Him glory and the way we do that is to live 00:17:24.24\00:17:27.58 a life that brings honor to His name, to be obedient to what 00:17:27.61\00:17:30.95 He asks us to do. 00:17:30.98\00:17:32.41 We are giving glory to God. 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.12 "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do it to 00:17:34.15\00:17:35.85 the glory of God." 00:17:35.88\00:17:37.59 And the first angel's message in Revelation 14 says, 00:17:37.62\00:17:39.89 "Fear God and give Him glory. 00:17:39.92\00:17:41.59 So it's more than just the glorious presence of God, but 00:17:41.62\00:17:45.43 it's actually willing obedience that is part of giving glory. 00:17:45.46\00:17:48.83 Doug: And even with our mouths you know, when we praise 00:17:48.86\00:17:51.53 Him, we can be glorifying God in our words as well. 00:17:51.57\00:17:54.47 So that's, I know that's broad, but it's one of those words 00:17:54.50\00:17:58.04 that, it's a glorious word 00:17:58.07\00:18:00.58 Jean: That's right. 00:18:00.61\00:18:02.11 Doug: Well, that helps a little bit Glen. 00:18:02.14\00:18:03.75 By the way, I've got a little book, it's called 00:18:03.78\00:18:05.51 "The Two Witnesses," and it talks about the glorious mount. 00:18:05.55\00:18:08.88 And this is where God's glory is revealed on the mountain 00:18:08.92\00:18:12.59 to Peter, James, John, and Jesus is transfigured. 00:18:12.62\00:18:16.59 And it discusses that a little bit. 00:18:16.62\00:18:18.43 Jean: To receive the book, just call and ask for it. 00:18:18.46\00:18:20.36 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:18:20.40\00:18:23.10 You can ask for the book, it's called "The Glorious Mount," 00:18:23.13\00:18:25.27 or dial #250 on your smartphone, say "Bible Answers Live" 00:18:25.30\00:18:29.04 and say, "I'd like the book, 'The Glorious Mount.'" 00:18:29.07\00:18:32.14 You know, pastor Doug, we're getting a lot of folks 00:18:32.17\00:18:33.51 who are actually doing that. 00:18:33.54\00:18:35.04 They're just dialing #250 and they're able to get the free 00:18:35.08\00:18:37.58 offer right there. 00:18:37.61\00:18:38.91 It's easy, easy number to remember. 00:18:38.95\00:18:40.78 Next caller that we have is, Duane listening from Georgia. 00:18:40.82\00:18:43.69 Duane, welcome to the program. 00:18:43.72\00:18:45.85 Duane: Hey, good evening, gentlemen. 00:18:45.89\00:18:47.92 Doug: Evening, 00:18:47.96\00:18:50.06 Duane: Just a little bit nervous here, I apologize. 00:18:50.09\00:18:52.46 Thank you for taking my call 00:18:52.49\00:18:54.20 and I certainly appreciate your ministry. 00:18:54.23\00:18:56.46 Doug: Yeah, thank you dude, just relax, don't worry. 00:18:56.50\00:18:58.93 Duane: Well, you're great guys and I'm just really 00:18:58.97\00:19:01.17 excited to talk to you. 00:19:01.20\00:19:03.07 I got a question about the Sabbath. 00:19:03.10\00:19:07.01 A friend of mine is telling me that he believes that we have 00:19:07.04\00:19:11.25 lost sight of the true Sabbath through Babylon. 00:19:11.28\00:19:14.98 I don't know if you've ever heard of this before 00:19:15.02\00:19:17.22 either one of you. 00:19:17.25\00:19:19.45 He claims that the Sabbath days fall on the same days of the 00:19:19.49\00:19:22.66 month, like the 15th, the 22nd and the 29th. 00:19:22.69\00:19:26.49 And that they always follow in like the three months in a row 00:19:26.53\00:19:30.93 that follow a new moon cycle. 00:19:30.97\00:19:33.20 Have you've ever heard of anything like this? 00:19:33.23\00:19:34.80 I just find it hard to believe that God would ever let us lose 00:19:34.84\00:19:37.81 sight of His true day of worship. 00:19:37.84\00:19:40.28 Doug: Yeah, that's a teaching that I think is very unbiblical. 00:19:40.31\00:19:47.05 It's called the Lunar Sabbath and they think that we are to 00:19:47.08\00:19:51.25 pick the weekly Sabbath based upon the lunar cycles, 00:19:51.29\00:19:54.62 but there's really nothing in the Bible 00:19:54.66\00:19:56.93 that I find that teaches that. 00:19:56.96\00:19:59.03 The Sabbath always was based on a numerical weekly cycle of 00:19:59.06\00:20:04.17 one through seven, one through seven, one through seven, 00:20:04.20\00:20:06.67 that has continued in continuity from Adam to the present day. 00:20:06.70\00:20:10.47 And there are people that have written the US Naval Observatory 00:20:10.51\00:20:14.01 and the observatory in Greenwich, England and said, 00:20:14.04\00:20:17.11 you know, there have been any change to the calendar 00:20:17.15\00:20:19.98 that has affected the continuity of the weekly cycle. 00:20:20.02\00:20:22.78 And they say, "The weekly cycle has gone back in continuity 00:20:22.82\00:20:27.66 since long before the Christian era. 00:20:27.69\00:20:29.99 And you know, the Jews have been tracking it ever since 00:20:30.03\00:20:34.56 the Exodus when, you know, it goes all the way to Adam 00:20:34.56\00:20:38.10 'cause God creates the first Sabbath on the seventh day 00:20:38.13\00:20:40.44 in Genesis chapter 2. 00:20:40.47\00:20:42.57 And then it says, "Abraham kept My laws and My commandments." 00:20:42.60\00:20:45.14 So you know, the Jews were keeping it, they lost it in 00:20:45.17\00:20:47.51 Egypt or they started ignoring it. 00:20:47.54\00:20:49.98 God got them back on track again when He started reigning manna 00:20:50.01\00:20:53.18 from heaven. 00:20:53.21\00:20:54.72 He says, "You're going to get six days a week, you'll get 00:20:54.75\00:20:56.35 enough for one day, on Friday, gather enough for two days, 00:20:56.38\00:20:59.32 'cause the next day is a Sabbath and there won't be any 00:20:59.35\00:21:01.56 on that day." 00:21:01.59\00:21:03.43 And so, God very clearly for 40 years reestablished 00:21:03.46\00:21:07.60 what that cycle was. 00:21:07.60\00:21:10.00 And it was one through seven had nothing to do with the moon. 00:21:10.03\00:21:12.20 So I've heard that before and it, I think you really have to 00:21:12.23\00:21:15.34 torture your logic to say that the Sabbaths are governed 00:21:15.37\00:21:19.14 by the moon. 00:21:19.17\00:21:20.54 Jean: And then we know that Jesus, according to the gospels, 00:21:20.58\00:21:22.74 he kept the Sabbath as His custom was. 00:21:22.78\00:21:24.65 And that was 2,000 years ago and since then, we have a whole 00:21:24.68\00:21:27.82 nation that has been at least aware of which day of the week 00:21:27.85\00:21:31.19 is the Sabbath. 00:21:31.22\00:21:32.69 Maybe have the Jews haven't all kept the Sabbath but they know 00:21:32.72\00:21:34.52 which day is the Sabbath and it's been kept ever since. 00:21:34.56\00:21:37.96 So there should be no doubt. 00:21:37.99\00:21:39.46 All right, thank you. 00:21:39.49\00:21:41.30 Next caller that we have is Lee in Texas. 00:21:41.33\00:21:43.03 Lee, welcome to the program. 00:21:43.06\00:21:44.60 Lee: Yes, sir. 00:21:44.63\00:21:46.37 Thank you for taking my call tonight. 00:21:46.40\00:21:48.30 Doug: Yes, sir, and how can we help you? 00:21:48.34\00:21:50.17 Lee: Well, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to ask this 00:21:50.21\00:21:52.21 question, but I guess I can ask anyone and see if I am wrong. 00:21:52.24\00:21:56.58 There are six chapters, to the Pope's Encyclical Laudato Si' 00:21:56.61\00:22:02.45 what happens when all six are done? 00:22:02.48\00:22:05.29 Doug: You mean when they're implemented? 00:22:05.32\00:22:07.79 Lee: Yes, sir. 00:22:07.82\00:22:09.76 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, the Popes have had encyclicals 00:22:09.79\00:22:13.26 for, you know, 1500 years and it'll lay out the ideals 00:22:13.29\00:22:17.90 that they want. 00:22:17.93\00:22:20.10 I don't know that any Pope has ever seen all of it fulfilled. 00:22:20.14\00:22:23.04 And the Laudato say, Encyclical that Pope Francis wrote, 00:22:23.07\00:22:29.84 and I understand he's coming up with a 2.0 version of it. 00:22:29.88\00:22:32.85 It's been updated or expanded. 00:22:32.88\00:22:35.18 That it was unique in that it especially focused 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.59 on the environment. 00:22:37.62\00:22:39.15 And folks are interested to see, you know, 00:22:39.19\00:22:42.46 how's he going to implement this? 00:22:42.49\00:22:44.56 Well, so far, you know, he's campaigned for changes and 00:22:44.59\00:22:49.56 things that would affect global warming and but you know, 00:22:49.60\00:22:54.04 he certainly hasn't been able to implement all the changes 00:22:54.07\00:22:57.07 that he has ideals in his letter but it does tell us that the 00:22:57.11\00:23:00.61 important thing about when the Pope issue is an encyclical, 00:23:00.64\00:23:03.21 it reveals kind of what their desired agenda is. 00:23:03.24\00:23:07.15 And so this one was very interesting 'cause it was unique 00:23:07.18\00:23:10.22 in that I think Francis became the first pope that really said 00:23:10.25\00:23:13.29 that, you know, the Christians need to focus on saving 00:23:13.32\00:23:16.36 the planet instead of moral change. 00:23:16.39\00:23:19.39 It was making, you know, environmental issues 00:23:19.43\00:23:22.30 a moral issue. 00:23:22.33\00:23:23.97 So that was interesting. 00:23:24.00\00:23:25.53 We'll be back in just a few moments, so don't go anywhere, 00:23:25.57\00:23:27.20 more questions are coming. 00:23:27.24\00:23:29.60 male announcer: Stay tuned, "Bible Answers Live" 00:23:33.51\00:23:35.18 will return shortly. 00:23:35.21\00:23:37.35 Andrew: When I was eight years old, I brought home 00:23:46.86\00:23:48.66 a five foot rattlesnake, and it's gone downhill ever since. 00:23:48.69\00:23:52.86 Rattlesnakes, sharks, cliff diving, free diving, I wouldn't 00:23:52.89\00:23:56.60 call myself an adrenaline junkie, I just realized that 00:23:56.63\00:23:59.17 the closest that I've ever been to being alive is 00:23:59.20\00:24:02.20 when I'm so close to death. 00:24:02.24\00:24:04.71 I was raised in the northern mountains of Mexico. 00:24:04.74\00:24:07.94 I learned English because there was missionary groups that were 00:24:07.98\00:24:10.95 coming from Colorado and then going to the northern mountains 00:24:10.98\00:24:13.31 of Mexico. 00:24:13.35\00:24:14.88 And they were all changed on these short term mission trips 00:24:14.92\00:24:18.52 and they had these unbelievable experiences in their close 00:24:18.55\00:24:21.79 encounters with God and I would share their testimony 00:24:21.82\00:24:24.73 and I would translate for them. 00:24:24.76\00:24:26.49 And I was jealous. 00:24:26.53\00:24:29.70 I was jealous because I didn't have a testimony. 00:24:29.73\00:24:33.27 I didn't have something like that. 00:24:33.30\00:24:34.97 I didn't have that life changing experience that close encounter 00:24:35.00\00:24:38.27 with God. 00:24:38.31\00:24:39.71 I knew He was there I just, I couldn't understand him and I 00:24:39.74\00:24:44.38 didn't really want anything to do with him and a part of me 00:24:44.41\00:24:48.62 wanted him not to want anything to do with me. 00:24:48.65\00:24:51.59 I felt like I was unworthy of God's love. 00:24:51.62\00:24:55.26 I left Mexico to come to college. 00:24:55.29\00:25:00.20 Once I got to college I realized how expensive college was. 00:25:00.23\00:25:03.37 And so in order to pay for college, I became a commercial 00:25:03.40\00:25:07.80 salmon fisherman in Alaska. 00:25:07.84\00:25:09.74 And the first time that I stepped on a boat, I knew I was 00:25:09.77\00:25:12.57 going to be a fisherman for the rest of my life. 00:25:12.61\00:25:15.58 I met this man in Tennessee, in one of the rivers and I found 00:25:15.61\00:25:19.31 out that he had an orphanage in Honduras. 00:25:19.35\00:25:22.08 And he said, you know, you can come down to Honduras, you can 00:25:22.12\00:25:24.82 help us put a support video together. 00:25:24.85\00:25:26.89 And you know, he was like, "Maybe you can get some college 00:25:26.92\00:25:30.13 credits out of it." 00:25:30.16\00:25:31.79 I said, "You know, that'd be great, I would do that, I would 00:25:31.83\00:25:33.80 love to do that." 00:25:33.83\00:25:35.20 And so I flew down to Honduras and one of the conversations 00:25:35.23\00:25:37.93 that we had during dinner, we were talking about this and that 00:25:37.97\00:25:41.40 and somehow I brought up rapture and they said, well, find us a 00:25:41.44\00:25:45.24 place in scripture where it talks about rapture. 00:25:45.27\00:25:47.91 And I said, it's all over the Bible. 00:25:47.94\00:25:49.94 They said, is it really though? 00:25:49.98\00:25:51.88 So they gave me a DVD that said "Amazing Facts" and I remember 00:25:51.91\00:25:54.52 coming back to America and I started watching and it said, 00:25:54.55\00:25:59.25 "Amazing facts presents," and Doug Bachelor started talking. 00:25:59.29\00:26:03.39 One of the things that he said is that the word rapture wasn't 00:26:03.43\00:26:06.43 in scripture. 00:26:06.46\00:26:08.16 And that was the first time that I actually heard 00:26:08.20\00:26:09.93 Pastor Bachelor speak. 00:26:09.96\00:26:12.23 And then I run into YouTube a video series 00:26:12.27\00:26:17.94 called "Prophecy Code." 00:26:17.97\00:26:19.64 And I said, "Oh this is going to be good, sweet." 00:26:19.67\00:26:21.88 But it was just torture because everything I knew was just 00:26:21.91\00:26:27.15 getting tossed out the window. 00:26:27.18\00:26:29.38 He was just using scripture after scripture to take away 00:26:29.42\00:26:34.92 everything that I thought was normal and everything 00:26:34.96\00:26:37.99 that I knew about the Book of Apocalypses. 00:26:38.03\00:26:41.20 Ever since I've learned scriptural truth and I've seen 00:26:41.23\00:26:45.13 the light, I feel like there's been a fire rekindled 00:26:45.17\00:26:47.67 in my heart. 00:26:47.70\00:26:49.87 And I have this knowledge that I want to share with people. 00:26:49.90\00:26:53.68 It brings me peace and I think that it does that for other 00:26:53.71\00:26:57.55 people we've managed to share with. 00:26:57.58\00:27:00.38 My name is Andrew. 00:27:00.42\00:27:01.85 I am a fisherman and a dreamer. 00:27:01.88\00:27:04.69 I want to thank you for changing my life. 00:27:04.72\00:27:08.59 male announcer: You are listening to 00:27:18.77\00:27:20.44 "Bible Answers Live," where every question answered provides 00:27:20.47\00:27:23.67 a clearer picture of God and his plan to save you. 00:27:23.71\00:27:27.54 So what are you waiting for? Michael: Good evening pastors. 00:28:57.40\00:28:58.73 How are you guys doing? Doug: Evening. 00:28:58.77\00:29:00.60 Michael: Well, I guess I just want to be candid. 00:29:00.64\00:29:03.34 I've been stuck in my faith for the past few years now but 00:29:03.37\00:29:07.88 the thing is, one of the things for some--for whatever reason 00:29:07.91\00:29:11.88 has been kind of besetting me, 00:29:11.91\00:29:15.38 is the doctrine of hell, I guess. 00:29:15.42\00:29:18.69 And I just wanted to ask what does the Bible teach about 00:29:18.72\00:29:22.12 the ultimate fate of the wicked? 00:29:22.16\00:29:24.89 Because you know, I was raised to believe in the doctrine of 00:29:24.93\00:29:29.06 annihilation that God ultimately destroys the wicked. 00:29:29.10\00:29:32.37 But some time ago, probably like a couple weeks ago, I had like 00:29:32.40\00:29:36.37 some bad dream about sort of like the eternal torment form 00:29:36.40\00:29:40.44 of hell and to be quite honest it's you know-- 00:29:40.48\00:29:46.65 Doug: Rattled you a little bit, huh? 00:29:46.68\00:29:48.75 Michael: Yeah, it rattled me, it's robbed me some sleep, 00:29:48.78\00:29:51.82 it's really like you know-- 00:29:51.85\00:29:54.66 Doug: Well, first of all-- 00:29:54.69\00:29:56.76 Michael: It's just blown off my peace so to speak. 00:29:56.79\00:29:58.66 Doug: Yeah, I understand Michael. 00:29:58.69\00:30:00.60 First of all, don't worry about hell if you're planning on 00:30:00.63\00:30:05.17 going to heaven. 00:30:05.20\00:30:07.64 So in other words, I don't want to give you comfort that hell 00:30:07.67\00:30:10.61 won't be so bad so you can go there, the idea is you 00:30:10.64\00:30:13.44 want to be in the other place no matter what. 00:30:13.48\00:30:16.14 And then you don't have to worry, either way but let me 00:30:16.18\00:30:19.68 tell you what the Bible says and hopefully it'll not only bring 00:30:19.71\00:30:22.05 some comfort but I think it brings some reason. 00:30:22.08\00:30:25.29 There's two extremes that people make when it comes to 00:30:25.32\00:30:28.72 misunderstanding the subject of hell. 00:30:28.76\00:30:30.83 One is that nothing happens to the wicked, and the other is 00:30:30.86\00:30:33.93 this kind of medieval idea that God broils and burns people for 00:30:33.96\00:30:39.13 billions of years and they never stop burning for the sins of one 00:30:39.17\00:30:42.77 lifetime, that's also not true. 00:30:42.80\00:30:45.31 The Bible says the penalty for sin is death. 00:30:45.34\00:30:48.18 Revelation says the wicked will be consumed. 00:30:48.21\00:30:51.81 You read in Malachi chapter 4 it says, "They will be burnt up." 00:30:51.85\00:30:56.32 It says "You'll diligently consider his place 00:30:56.35\00:30:59.02 and it will not be." 00:30:59.05\00:31:00.69 It says "You'll tread down the wicked their ashes under 00:31:00.72\00:31:02.89 the soles of your feet." 00:31:02.92\00:31:04.49 That's also in Malachi. 00:31:04.53\00:31:06.13 It says "The penalty for sin, of course, is death, the gift of 00:31:06.16\00:31:10.37 God is eternal life." 00:31:10.40\00:31:11.70 God does not give eternal life to the lost. 00:31:11.73\00:31:14.80 They are--everyone is cast in the lake of fire that is lost, 00:31:14.84\00:31:18.21 the lost are cast into the lake of fire. 00:31:18.24\00:31:20.84 Everyone is punished according to his works. 00:31:20.88\00:31:23.48 If everyone burns forever they all get the same punishment. 00:31:23.51\00:31:25.88 Everyone is punished according to his works, 00:31:25.91\00:31:27.72 and they are consumed. 00:31:27.75\00:31:29.48 The Bible uses the words consumed, devour, burnt. 00:31:29.52\00:31:33.29 Now they are burnt with eternal fire. 00:31:33.32\00:31:35.99 What that means is the result of the fire is eternal. 00:31:36.02\00:31:39.03 The Bible says the fate of the wicked is the same 00:31:39.06\00:31:41.76 as Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:31:41.80\00:31:43.16 Sodom and Gomorrah, God rained fire upon them. 00:31:43.20\00:31:45.23 They were burnt, they've never been rebuilt, 00:31:45.27\00:31:47.70 they were burnt with eternal fire. 00:31:47.74\00:31:49.30 And so those cities aren't there anymore 00:31:49.34\00:31:52.21 and they're not still burning. 00:31:52.24\00:31:53.71 And we have a whole study on this. 00:31:53.74\00:31:55.78 I could go on and on, but I think it'll bring you comfort. 00:31:55.81\00:31:57.88 The Bible is really clear that God is fair and just in 00:31:57.91\00:32:02.22 dealing with the wicked, there is a hell, there is fire, 00:32:02.25\00:32:06.32 but it does not burn forever and ever. 00:32:06.35\00:32:09.16 Jean: You know, we've got a website called helltruth.com 00:32:09.19\00:32:12.06 and it's got all the scriptures there, it's actually got the 00:32:12.09\00:32:14.46 lesson you're referring to as well, Pastor Doug, 00:32:14.50\00:32:16.33 and for anyone wondering what's going to happen 00:32:16.36\00:32:18.20 and why is this important? 00:32:18.23\00:32:19.57 Well I think first of all, as you said, you know, for 00:32:19.60\00:32:21.44 the redeem, they're going to be in heaven, that's where we want 00:32:21.47\00:32:23.71 to be but the idea of an eternal burning hell for you know, 00:32:23.74\00:32:28.58 forever, for somebody suffering, just because of their life of 00:32:28.61\00:32:31.01 sin, that's a reflection on the character of God. 00:32:31.05\00:32:33.98 Would our loving God do that? 00:32:34.02\00:32:35.88 I think that doctrine a misunderstanding of this 00:32:35.92\00:32:37.99 doctrine has led countless millions to turn away from God 00:32:38.02\00:32:42.72 saying, "Well, I don't want to serve a God like that, 00:32:42.76\00:32:45.39 that's going to torture people throughout eternity." 00:32:45.43\00:32:47.36 That's not what the Bible says. 00:32:47.40\00:32:48.80 Doug: Yeah, absolutely. 00:32:48.83\00:32:50.50 So hopefully that helps a little bit, Michael. 00:32:50.53\00:32:52.40 And be careful not to let the devil frighten you with dreams 00:32:52.43\00:32:54.67 because that's really not the source of truth. 00:32:54.70\00:32:57.67 We can have all kinds of dreams. 00:32:57.71\00:32:59.91 Jean: We have a study guide called 00:32:59.94\00:33:01.34 "Is The Devil In Charge Of Hell?" 00:33:01.38\00:33:03.01 That actually answers all of these questions in addition 00:33:03.04\00:33:04.58 to the website, just helltruth.com. 00:33:04.61\00:33:06.41 You can call and ask for that study guide. 00:33:06.45\00:33:08.15 The number is 800-835-6747 and ask for it 00:33:08.18\00:33:13.69 "Is The Devil In Charge Of Hell?" 00:33:13.72\00:33:15.82 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and just say, 00:33:15.86\00:33:18.93 "Bible Answers Live," and then ask for that study guide and 00:33:18.96\00:33:21.76 we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:33:21.80\00:33:23.73 We've got Cami in California. 00:33:23.77\00:33:25.80 Cami, welcome to the program. 00:33:25.83\00:33:27.60 Cami: Good evening, pastors. 00:33:27.64\00:33:29.87 Thank you very, very much for taking my phone 00:33:29.90\00:33:31.91 call this evening. 00:33:31.94\00:33:34.08 My question, it's regarding Matthew 5:48, which says, 00:33:34.11\00:33:37.78 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father, 00:33:37.81\00:33:41.22 which is in heaven is perfect." 00:33:41.25\00:33:43.52 So what is meant by perfect, especially in light of all of 00:33:43.55\00:33:47.86 our righteousness being as filthy rags in Isaiah 64:6? 00:33:47.89\00:33:52.23 Doug: Yeah, that is a good question because you know, 00:33:52.26\00:33:55.00 people are thinking, "Wow! 00:33:55.03\00:33:57.70 If I've got to be that kind of perfect, how can I do that?" 00:33:57.73\00:34:01.37 I think part of the answer would be always compare scripture 00:34:01.40\00:34:05.67 with scripture. 00:34:05.71\00:34:07.68 When Jesus uses that same phrase in Luke, and if you look in Luke 00:34:07.71\00:34:11.85 chapter 6 verse 36, He says, "Therefore be merciful, as your 00:34:11.88\00:34:18.62 father in heaven is merciful." 00:34:18.65\00:34:21.26 And so the word perfect that he uses in Matthew 00:34:21.29\00:34:24.26 is the word be mature. 00:34:24.29\00:34:26.29 And here Jesus, He says, "Be merciful." 00:34:26.33\00:34:30.60 God wants us to have a perfect love and mercy for other people. 00:34:30.63\00:34:35.94 If the idea of being perfect means that we all needed to be 00:34:35.97\00:34:39.71 some sort of super sterilized stainless steel Christians that 00:34:39.74\00:34:42.74 you know, are flawless, nobody's going to make it. 00:34:42.78\00:34:45.48 God wants us to have perfect love and if we love Him, we'll 00:34:45.51\00:34:50.72 keep His commandments, right? 00:34:50.75\00:34:52.39 So whenever I find out, when I want to know what is Christian 00:34:52.42\00:34:55.86 perfection, I just look at the stories 00:34:55.89\00:34:57.63 in the Bible of the faithful. 00:34:57.66\00:34:59.79 And I know Elijah's in heaven, I want to be like him. 00:34:59.83\00:35:03.77 Well, the Bible says, "Elijah was a man subject like passions 00:35:03.80\00:35:07.54 as we are, but he prayed and God answered his prayers." 00:35:07.57\00:35:11.67 I want to have the kind of faith Daniel had where he said, 00:35:11.71\00:35:15.24 "I love the Lord so much that I'd rather go to the lion's den 00:35:15.28\00:35:17.51 than disobey him." 00:35:17.55\00:35:19.31 Or the faith of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego or Peter, 00:35:19.35\00:35:22.38 James and John, who will be in heaven but they were arguing 00:35:22.42\00:35:26.42 with each other about which of them was the greatest, 00:35:26.45\00:35:28.09 they were human. 00:35:28.12\00:35:29.69 And so you know, God wants us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, to 00:35:29.72\00:35:33.46 be like him, be born again, to have that Christian perfection. 00:35:33.50\00:35:38.37 Hopefully that helps a little bit. 00:35:38.40\00:35:40.17 Sometimes I remember I first read that and it said, 00:35:40.20\00:35:42.10 "Be perfect even as the Father is perfect." 00:35:42.14\00:35:45.21 And I thought, wow! 00:35:45.24\00:35:47.41 Not only that you read in I think its 1 Peter he says, 00:35:47.44\00:35:49.68 "Be holy as I'm holy." 00:35:49.71\00:35:51.48 I think how am I ever going to be as perfect and holy as God? 00:35:51.51\00:35:54.52 Well, the only way that happens is if God washes us from our sin 00:35:54.55\00:35:58.62 and gives us His Spirit and His character. 00:35:58.65\00:36:01.16 So we reflect His image. 00:36:01.19\00:36:03.29 So it's the born again experience he's talking about. 00:36:03.32\00:36:06.09 Jean: You know, also think just want to--this is when Jesus 00:36:06.13\00:36:09.13 says, "Be perfect even if your father in heaven is perfect," 00:36:09.16\00:36:10.93 it's more of a promise than a command because 00:36:10.97\00:36:14.44 how can someone who is imperfect be perfect? 00:36:14.47\00:36:17.87 But there is a promise that God is able to do that 00:36:17.91\00:36:20.24 which we cannot do for ourselves. 00:36:20.28\00:36:22.71 So to be perfect is a gift of God, it is the Spirit of 00:36:22.74\00:36:26.08 God working within us we are to cooperate, but in reality, 00:36:26.11\00:36:29.02 it is the working of God. 00:36:29.05\00:36:31.19 All right, thank you for your call. 00:36:31.22\00:36:33.66 We've got Noah listening in Kentucky. 00:36:33.69\00:36:35.72 Noah, welcome to the program. 00:36:35.76\00:36:37.36 Noah: Hey, Pastor Doug. 00:36:37.39\00:36:39.73 Doug: Hi. 00:36:39.76\00:36:41.23 Noah: My question is, if you sell your soul to Satan and get 00:36:41.26\00:36:45.33 something in return, can you repent and return to God and 00:36:45.37\00:36:48.94 still go to heaven or is it over, is it final? 00:36:48.97\00:36:51.91 You know, like-- 00:36:51.94\00:36:53.41 Doug: Yeah, that's a good question. 00:36:53.44\00:36:55.18 So if you make a deal with the devil and you promise you make 00:36:55.21\00:36:58.18 a vow, can you break a vow made to the devil? 00:36:58.21\00:37:01.28 I would say yes, because otherwise that would 00:37:01.32\00:37:03.79 be the unpardonable sin. 00:37:03.82\00:37:05.85 So I mean, there's a lot of examples in the Bible of people 00:37:05.89\00:37:11.19 that were serving the devil and God transformed them. 00:37:11.23\00:37:16.83 He got you know, king Manasseh that he was sold out worshiping 00:37:16.87\00:37:19.87 pagan gods but he was converted, he repented. 00:37:19.90\00:37:23.04 And so to make a vow to the devil is a sin. 00:37:23.07\00:37:27.91 So can God forgive sin? 00:37:27.94\00:37:30.01 Yes, He'll forgive that sin. 00:37:30.05\00:37:32.95 First of all, the sin of breaking a promise to the devil. 00:37:32.98\00:37:35.02 Secondly, even dealing with the devil. 00:37:35.05\00:37:37.35 But yeah, don't fall into that trap of thinking, 00:37:37.39\00:37:40.12 "Well, I made a promise to the devil and he gave me 00:37:40.16\00:37:42.82 what I wanted now I'm lost." 00:37:42.86\00:37:44.86 Repent of what you did and let me give you an example. 00:37:44.89\00:37:49.13 Maybe it's not a good one but sometimes when we're desperate, 00:37:49.16\00:37:52.43 we do things and I think God knows you're just 00:37:52.47\00:37:54.77 not in your right mind. 00:37:54.80\00:37:56.40 I was hitchhiking one time and praying for a ride 00:37:56.44\00:37:59.21 and hours went by and I couldn't get a ride. 00:37:59.24\00:38:01.38 And I thought I was going to die out in the desert 00:38:01.41\00:38:03.01 on this freeway. 00:38:03.04\00:38:04.85 And I rashly promised, I said, "Lord, if you'll give me a ride, 00:38:04.88\00:38:08.92 I promise if I ever get a car, I will pick up every hitchhiker 00:38:08.95\00:38:13.32 that I see." 00:38:13.36\00:38:15.06 I was tired and hungry and 00:38:15.09\00:38:16.99 so I made this kind of a rash promise. 00:38:17.03\00:38:19.76 Well, I tried when I first got my car to pick up every 00:38:19.79\00:38:21.86 hitchhiker and then as time went by, I realized, this is absurd, 00:38:21.90\00:38:24.07 I couldn't do it. 00:38:24.10\00:38:25.87 And I just said, "Lord you know, that was foolish 00:38:25.90\00:38:28.47 and I hope you'll forgive me." 00:38:28.50\00:38:30.04 But that doesn't mean a Christian shouldn't keep their 00:38:30.07\00:38:32.41 promises but I think sometimes we do things like that and God 00:38:32.44\00:38:36.21 winks at our ignorance. 00:38:36.24\00:38:38.11 Do you know, the Bible says that, I don't know if I should 00:38:38.15\00:38:41.22 say this, the Bible says that "If a wife makes a vow, 00:38:41.25\00:38:45.39 the husband can overrule it." 00:38:45.42\00:38:48.32 Jean: Have you ever tried to overrule 00:38:48.36\00:38:50.49 when your wife makes a vow? 00:38:50.53\00:38:53.70 Doug: Yeah, but I was three weeks in the hospital. 00:38:53.73\00:38:58.37 No, I don't call it overruling, don't use that word. 00:38:58.40\00:39:03.44 I'd say, "Hey, Karen, let's talk about that." 00:39:03.47\00:39:06.01 All right, new subject. 00:39:06.04\00:39:08.11 Thanks hope that helps a little bit. 00:39:08.14\00:39:09.84 Jean: Next caller that we have is Aaron listening in New York. 00:39:09.88\00:39:11.61 Aaron, welcome to the program. 00:39:11.65\00:39:13.42 You're on the air. 00:39:13.45\00:39:15.02 Aaron: Good evening pastors. 00:39:15.05\00:39:16.69 Thank you for taking my call. 00:39:16.72\00:39:18.29 Doug: Yeah. 00:39:18.32\00:39:20.49 Aaron: In 1 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 8, Paul says, 00:39:20.52\00:39:23.96 "Let us keep the feast." 00:39:23.99\00:39:26.13 I don't see the word feast mentioned anywhere else 00:39:26.16\00:39:28.90 in the chapter. 00:39:28.93\00:39:30.77 My question is, what is the meaning of this Bible verse? 00:39:30.80\00:39:34.50 Doug: Yeah, well, he's, he talks in verse 6 he talks about, 00:39:34.54\00:39:39.11 "Do you not know a little leaven leavens the whole lump?" 00:39:39.14\00:39:41.18 He's making a reference that all the Jews 00:39:41.21\00:39:43.55 understood, and I suppose the Corinthian Christians 00:39:43.58\00:39:45.85 did about the Passover. 00:39:45.88\00:39:47.72 They were not to have any leaven in their bread and leaven here 00:39:47.75\00:39:50.95 is a symbol of sin. 00:39:50.99\00:39:52.75 That's where Jesus told the disciples, "Beware of the leaven 00:39:52.79\00:39:54.96 of the Pharisees." 00:39:54.99\00:39:56.32 The sin or false doctrine. 00:39:56.36\00:39:58.23 And so then He says, "Let us therefore keep the feast, not 00:39:58.26\00:40:01.30 with the old leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the 00:40:01.33\00:40:03.83 unleavened bread." 00:40:03.87\00:40:05.17 So later, and I think it's, is it 1 or 2 Corinthians? 00:40:05.20\00:40:08.27 He talks about the Passover. 00:40:08.30\00:40:10.04 That may be a rather the Lord's supper. 00:40:10.07\00:40:11.74 That may be 2 Corinthians but anyway, I think the listeners 00:40:11.77\00:40:14.24 understood that He's talking about, the Passover as a symbol 00:40:14.28\00:40:18.21 of salvation. 00:40:18.25\00:40:19.81 The angel of judgment passes over because 00:40:19.85\00:40:22.52 of the blood of the lamb. 00:40:22.55\00:40:24.45 So they understood that. 00:40:24.49\00:40:26.19 Jean: And I think also part of the controversy in 00:40:26.22\00:40:28.29 the Old Testament or actually in the New Testament I should say 00:40:28.32\00:40:30.29 in current was, you had the Jewish believers and then 00:40:30.33\00:40:32.83 you had the Gentile believers. 00:40:32.86\00:40:34.36 And the Jewish believers were telling the Gentile believers 00:40:34.40\00:40:36.26 that they had to keep all of the laws of the Old Testament 00:40:36.30\00:40:38.47 related to the ceremonial laws. 00:40:38.50\00:40:40.17 Yeah, and the Passover and so on. 00:40:40.20\00:40:42.37 Paul is almost saying here that if you're going to keep the 00:40:42.40\00:40:44.24 feast, it says, "Therefore let us keep the feast not with old 00:40:44.27\00:40:47.34 leaven, nor with the leaven of malice or wickedness, but with 00:40:47.38\00:40:50.88 the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." 00:40:50.91\00:40:53.48 So he's even going a little bit deeper and saying it's not about 00:40:53.52\00:40:56.28 the keeping of the feast, meaning removing the leaven 00:40:56.32\00:40:59.42 from the house, but rather there's a spiritual application 00:40:59.45\00:41:02.69 that he's trying to bring to view. 00:41:02.72\00:41:04.16 Doug: Have leaven out of your heart. 00:41:04.19\00:41:05.73 Jean: Just like he says, Jesus is our Passover. 00:41:05.76\00:41:07.46 We don't keep the Passover. 00:41:07.50\00:41:08.93 Doug: It's a spiritual, 00:41:08.96\00:41:10.47 Jean: Spiritual application of it, yeah. 00:41:10.50\00:41:12.43 Doug: Thank you, good question, Aaron. 00:41:12.47\00:41:13.97 Jean: All right, next caller that we have is Henry 00:41:14.00\00:41:15.40 in New York. 00:41:15.44\00:41:17.01 Henry, welcome to the program. 00:41:17.04\00:41:18.64 Henry: Yes, hello pastors. 00:41:18.67\00:41:20.21 God bless you. 00:41:20.24\00:41:22.08 My question is, when Jesus comes back, and for the women who were 00:41:22.11\00:41:28.55 pregnant and they stayed, will the babies be born in heaven? 00:41:28.58\00:41:32.05 Doug: Oh, right. 00:41:32.09\00:41:33.46 That's a great question. 00:41:33.49\00:41:35.02 I remember I was doing a Bible answer one time on TV and the 00:41:35.06\00:41:39.69 pastor read the question that what's going to happen to women 00:41:39.73\00:41:42.90 who are pregnant when Jesus comes? 00:41:42.93\00:41:44.97 And I said, "Well, they'll be delivered." 00:41:45.00\00:41:47.27 So you know, I assume that either they would get their 00:41:47.30\00:41:54.04 glorified bodies and have a painless birth in heaven because 00:41:54.08\00:41:57.28 in the Garden of Eden, there was no pain in childbirth. 00:41:57.31\00:42:00.28 But I'm more inclined to believe that when they get their 00:42:00.32\00:42:04.25 glorified bodies, the little baby is going to be placed in 00:42:04.29\00:42:07.82 their arms as a new baby. 00:42:07.86\00:42:10.49 Again, there's a lot of things that we speculate about and you 00:42:10.53\00:42:15.06 know, people say, "What's going to happen to folks that are on 00:42:15.10\00:42:17.73 the International Space Station when Jesus comes?" 00:42:17.77\00:42:20.27 So you'll get all kinds of odd scenarios that are kind of hard 00:42:20.30\00:42:26.17 to comprehend but I don't worry about that. 00:42:26.21\00:42:29.01 But yeah, if a woman is saved and she's pregnant, when Jesus 00:42:29.04\00:42:33.05 comes, she can be sure that she'll either have a painless 00:42:33.08\00:42:36.35 birth in heaven or those angels will hand her that life with her 00:42:36.38\00:42:39.82 glorified body. 00:42:39.85\00:42:42.19 Jean: Absolutely. 00:42:42.22\00:42:44.79 All right, next caller that we have calling from Nevada and 00:42:44.83\00:42:47.03 Dwinelle. 00:42:47.03\00:42:48.53 Is that correct? 00:42:48.56\00:42:49.86 Dwinelle: Dwinelle. Jean: Dwinelle. 00:42:49.90\00:42:52.03 Dwinelle: Thank you, thank you for taking my call. 00:42:52.07\00:42:54.17 My question is in Matthew 12:43-45, talking about "When 00:42:54.20\00:43:00.38 an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, 00:43:00.41\00:43:03.38 seeking rest, and finds none. 00:43:03.41\00:43:05.08 Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' 00:43:05.11\00:43:07.18 And when he comes, he finds it empty, 00:43:07.22\00:43:08.78 and swept, and put in order. 00:43:08.82\00:43:10.55 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits 00:43:10.59\00:43:13.66 more wicked than himself." 00:43:13.69\00:43:16.19 And my question is, are the spirits or the evil angels 00:43:16.22\00:43:22.30 different levels of wickedness? 00:43:22.33\00:43:26.33 Doug: Well, I think they probably could be. 00:43:26.37\00:43:28.87 Well, I think that we've learned that even among the good angels 00:43:28.90\00:43:34.84 it seems like there's different ranking. 00:43:34.88\00:43:37.71 And so there might be some evil angels that are more powerful 00:43:37.75\00:43:40.92 which would make them more effectively wicked. 00:43:40.95\00:43:43.55 Angels, every one of them, they're created and they're 00:43:43.59\00:43:47.02 individuals and you know, they have different personalities 00:43:47.06\00:43:50.63 just as people do. 00:43:50.66\00:43:52.39 The good angels are all holy, the bad angels are all bad 00:43:52.43\00:43:54.56 but they're unique. 00:43:54.56\00:43:56.13 They're not like cookie cutter robots. 00:43:56.16\00:43:58.43 And so I suppose when Jesus said, "He'll take with them some 00:43:58.47\00:44:01.90 that are even more wicked, that there are varying degrees 00:44:01.94\00:44:05.24 among the evil angels. 00:44:05.27\00:44:06.88 Jean: Well, you know, we noticed that even in the 00:44:06.91\00:44:08.78 experience that Jesus had, remember one occasion a man 00:44:08.81\00:44:11.48 brought his son to Christ and he was demon possessed and 00:44:11.51\00:44:14.12 the disciples couldn't cast the devils out. 00:44:14.15\00:44:16.55 And then Jesus said, "Well, this kind comes out 00:44:16.58\00:44:19.05 with prayer and fasting." 00:44:19.09\00:44:21.22 So there does seem to some kind of rank or power-- 00:44:21.26\00:44:24.13 Doug: More intense, yeah. 00:44:24.16\00:44:25.83 Jean: Yeah, than others, which yeah, interesting. 00:44:25.86\00:44:27.86 Doug: So yes, and I think that the most important part of 00:44:27.86\00:44:31.83 that parable, and it is a parable, is Jesus is saying, "If 00:44:31.87\00:44:37.17 you come to him and the devils are cast out and you're forgiven 00:44:37.21\00:44:40.74 of your sins, replace that in your life with something good. 00:44:40.78\00:44:45.21 If you don't introduce the light of the truth in your life, 00:44:45.25\00:44:49.08 eventually the darkness comes back 00:44:49.12\00:44:51.22 and it can seem even darker. 00:44:51.25\00:44:53.62 It's like where Peter said, if someone or it's Hebrews rather 00:44:53.66\00:44:56.59 in chapter, is it chapter 4 verse 6 or 6 verse 4, where he 00:44:56.62\00:45:00.86 said, "If someone turns away from the truth, the latter state 00:45:00.90\00:45:03.90 of that man is worse than the beginning." 00:45:03.93\00:45:05.93 Peter says, "It's like the dog returning to his vomit 00:45:05.97\00:45:07.77 or the pig that was washed to the wallowing of the mire," 00:45:07.80\00:45:10.47 and in Hebrews it says, 00:45:10.51\00:45:12.57 "It's impossible to renew them to repentance." 00:45:12.61\00:45:14.54 And so it's like the grip of the devil doubles if you turn back. 00:45:14.58\00:45:19.18 It's not that you can't be saved but it can be more difficult. 00:45:19.21\00:45:21.95 Jean: Okay, next one that we have is Michael 00:45:21.98\00:45:24.49 listening in California. 00:45:24.52\00:45:26.09 Michael, welcome to the program. 00:45:26.12\00:45:27.69 Michael: Thank you. 00:45:27.72\00:45:29.49 Doug: Yes sir. 00:45:29.52\00:45:31.26 Michael: Had a question for you about the feast days. 00:45:31.29\00:45:33.33 Leviticus 23, they're listed right there. 00:45:33.36\00:45:35.90 And the first three verses are talking about the Sabbath, 00:45:35.93\00:45:39.47 the weekly Sabbath. 00:45:39.50\00:45:41.30 Now I've been keeping these days since 1975 and I don't know 00:45:41.34\00:45:45.74 who to ask about this but I'll throw it at you. 00:45:45.77\00:45:49.38 Those weekly Sabbath on the first three verses 00:45:49.41\00:45:55.45 should be included in the New Year, correct? 00:45:55.48\00:45:59.25 As you have the Day of Atonement, you have Feast of 00:45:59.29\00:46:02.26 Trumpets and all that, God lifts them from that point on. 00:46:02.29\00:46:06.73 And it's based on the spring equinox, the 10th day you select 00:46:06.76\00:46:13.84 the lamb and on the 14th day you kill him and you sacrifice him. 00:46:13.87\00:46:18.34 Doug: Yeah, let me pause you for a second just to make sure 00:46:18.37\00:46:20.98 I'm understanding. 00:46:21.01\00:46:22.61 Are you asking if we should be keeping the annual feast? 00:46:22.64\00:46:28.28 'Cause the Sabbath in verse 3 is a weekly feast and the other 00:46:28.32\00:46:32.85 one's mentioned in chapter 23 are the annual feasts? 00:46:32.89\00:46:35.86 Michael: That's correct. 00:46:35.89\00:46:37.49 Doug: So you're wondering if we should keep them the same? 00:46:37.53\00:46:39.49 Michael: These should be in the same year. 00:46:39.53\00:46:41.40 That would mean that there would be a new calendar every year 00:46:41.43\00:46:44.43 because those days change and instead of using 00:46:44.47\00:46:47.87 the Gregory Pope calendar. 00:46:47.90\00:46:51.07 Doug: Yeah, well the Gregorian the Gregorian calendar 00:46:51.11\00:46:53.68 had nothing to do with the Jewish feast days that didn't 00:46:53.71\00:46:55.81 come around until-- 00:46:55.84\00:46:57.25 Michael: That's correct, you're right. 00:46:57.28\00:46:58.91 Doug: Well, Julius Caesar is the Julian Calendar and then 00:46:58.95\00:47:01.02 later you had Pope Gregory updated the Julian Calendar and 00:47:01.05\00:47:04.25 that's why we're now living under the Gregorian. 00:47:04.29\00:47:06.55 But neither of those had anything to do with Leviticus. 00:47:06.59\00:47:09.09 They lived long before Leviticus as long before the Caesar's. 00:47:09.12\00:47:12.29 So but just, yeah, well let me jump-- 00:47:12.33\00:47:15.10 Michael: You count the days though. 00:47:15.13\00:47:17.03 Okay, go ahead. 00:47:17.07\00:47:18.87 Doug: Yeah, let me just jump in here now and what's happening 00:47:18.90\00:47:23.10 in Leviticus 23 is Moses is going through the annual feasts. 00:47:23.14\00:47:27.34 He begins by separating the weekly Sabbath and saying, 00:47:27.38\00:47:32.28 "Of course, six days your work will be done. 00:47:32.31\00:47:34.62 The seventh day is the Sabbath." 00:47:34.65\00:47:36.38 A holy convocation you gather together and all your dwellings, 00:47:36.42\00:47:38.89 that's a weekly cycle. 00:47:38.92\00:47:40.59 That was part of creation, part of God's perfect plan. 00:47:40.62\00:47:42.52 It says, in heaven, from one Sabbath to another, 00:47:42.56\00:47:46.49 all flesh will come and worship before the Lord. 00:47:46.53\00:47:48.60 And so that's a memorial of salvation, 00:47:48.63\00:47:50.43 it's a memorial of creation. 00:47:50.47\00:47:52.73 The Levitical annual feast did not happen until after 2,000 00:47:52.77\00:47:57.07 years after sin or even more than that 'cause it was after 00:47:57.11\00:48:00.11 Moses, after the Exodus. 00:48:00.14\00:48:02.11 And they were nailed to the cross and if someone 00:48:02.14\00:48:06.08 wants to keep them, well more power to you. 00:48:06.11\00:48:08.52 Paul said, "You know, if you're going to keep a day, keep it 00:48:08.55\00:48:10.25 to the Lord, if you're not going to keep it, don't keep it." 00:48:10.29\00:48:11.99 He's talking about the annual feasts. 00:48:12.02\00:48:14.16 'Cause the Jewish believers we're telling the Christian 00:48:14.19\00:48:16.93 believers, you have to keep Passover, Day of Atonement and 00:48:16.96\00:48:20.20 Feast of Tabernacles and they didn't, they didn't have to. 00:48:20.23\00:48:23.80 The one that we're still obligated to keep is the one 00:48:23.83\00:48:27.64 that's in the Ten Commandments. 00:48:27.67\00:48:29.74 The annual feasts are not part of the Ten Commandments. 00:48:29.77\00:48:32.17 So we do have a book that talks about the, 00:48:32.21\00:48:35.14 should Christians keep the feast days? 00:48:35.18\00:48:37.25 And we'll be happy to send you a copy of that Michael. 00:48:37.28\00:48:39.71 Jean: You know, just to add to that quickly, pastor, 00:48:39.75\00:48:41.62 that you know, I think it might be confusing sometimes 00:48:41.65\00:48:43.52 the ceremonial Sabbaths were referred to as Sabbaths. 00:48:43.55\00:48:46.39 So you have the sixth day you know, every seventh day Sabbath, 00:48:46.42\00:48:48.99 but then you have the annual Sabbath. 00:48:49.02\00:48:51.29 The feast days were to be commemorated like a Sabbath. 00:48:51.33\00:48:55.50 In other words, they weren't to work on that day and it was 00:48:55.53\00:48:57.93 a gathering, a holy convocation which occurred also on 00:48:57.97\00:49:00.87 the seventh day Sabbath. 00:49:00.90\00:49:02.77 So when you see the word Sabbath, it could refer to 00:49:02.80\00:49:04.61 the Seventh day Sabbath, or it could be referring 00:49:04.64\00:49:06.68 to one of those ceremonial Sabbaths. 00:49:06.71\00:49:08.98 And that's why you need to, you need to figure out, is this an 00:49:09.01\00:49:11.38 annual day that it's talking about or is this the weekly day? 00:49:11.41\00:49:13.68 And that's the distinction. 00:49:13.72\00:49:15.55 Doug: Some were ceremonial part of the Levitical law, the 00:49:15.58\00:49:18.95 weekly Sabbath was part of the Ten Commandments and it had 00:49:18.99\00:49:23.32 a very practical application for all people at all time and even 00:49:23.36\00:49:28.30 the animals were to be given a day of rest. 00:49:28.33\00:49:30.70 So, just want to make sure that we're separating the two out 00:49:30.73\00:49:33.70 and I think Michael was saying that he thought we 00:49:33.74\00:49:35.70 should still be under an obligation to keep both. 00:49:35.74\00:49:38.37 So we do have that book. 00:49:38.41\00:49:40.24 Jean: It's called, Feast Days And Sabbaths," 00:49:40.28\00:49:42.21 we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:49:42.24\00:49:44.21 The number is 800-835-6747, or you can dial #250 00:49:44.25\00:49:48.02 on your smartphone. 00:49:48.05\00:49:50.75 Let's see, Pastor Doug, we might have time for one 00:49:50.79\00:49:53.05 or two more callers. 00:49:53.09\00:49:54.62 Let's try for, we got Thomas in New York. 00:49:54.66\00:49:56.56 Thomas, welcome to the program. 00:49:56.59\00:49:58.56 Thomas: Oh, how're you doing? 00:49:58.59\00:50:00.26 Thanks for taking my call. 00:50:00.30\00:50:02.63 There's a lot of stuff on the Internet here about you know, 00:50:02.66\00:50:05.83 Ellen G. White trying to predict the end of the world. 00:50:05.87\00:50:08.54 Will Miller and they say, Ellen G. White 00:50:08.57\00:50:10.87 is a false prophet you know, the Seventh-Day Adventists laws. 00:50:10.91\00:50:13.74 How do I address this where they say the Seventh-day Adventist 00:50:13.78\00:50:16.24 tried to predict the Second Coming of Christ? 00:50:16.28\00:50:18.15 Like how, what should I tell them? 00:50:18.18\00:50:19.75 Doug: Ellen White never predicted 00:50:19.78\00:50:21.08 the Second Coming of Christ. 00:50:21.12\00:50:22.52 Ellen White was one of many Christians in the 18th-- 00:50:22.55\00:50:27.86 19th century that were in the Millwright movement. 00:50:27.89\00:50:32.99 And the Millwright movement was believing that Christ 00:50:33.03\00:50:35.30 was coming in 1844. 00:50:35.33\00:50:37.57 But she did not predict that and actually later said that 00:50:37.60\00:50:41.54 was a mistake. 00:50:41.57\00:50:43.27 So, people that try to connect the two, it's just not accurate. 00:50:43.30\00:50:48.11 It was William Miller that established that date. 00:50:48.14\00:50:51.51 Jean: I don't think the Bible's quite clear Pastor Doug, 00:50:51.55\00:50:53.52 "No man knows the day or the hour." 00:50:53.55\00:50:55.28 So if anyone's trying to predict when Jesus is coming, 00:50:55.32\00:50:57.49 well be aware. 00:50:57.52\00:50:59.05 Doug: Yeah and Ellen White said "Don't predict it, no one 00:50:59.09\00:51:00.86 knows the day or the hour." 00:51:00.89\00:51:02.22 So hopefully that answers that. 00:51:02.26\00:51:03.79 Do we have about--have a question that we can ask? 00:51:03.83\00:51:06.53 Jean: Yeah, we got Robert in Washington. 00:51:06.56\00:51:07.96 Robert real quick, we got just a few minutes. 00:51:07.96\00:51:09.80 Robert: Yeah, real fast. 00:51:09.83\00:51:11.93 Thank you for taking the call. 00:51:11.97\00:51:13.70 On 1 Samuel 16 and verse 16 and 23, it says, 00:51:13.74\00:51:18.87 "An evil spirit from God." 00:51:18.91\00:51:20.51 I didn't think that evil spirits came from God. 00:51:20.54\00:51:22.64 If you could explain that to me, I appreciate it. 00:51:22.68\00:51:24.75 Thank you very much. 00:51:24.78\00:51:26.68 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:51:26.72\00:51:28.35 Probably the best way to understand that is when you read 00:51:28.38\00:51:30.89 the Book of Job, the devil was asking permission to prove that 00:51:30.92\00:51:36.46 Job wasn't really loyal to God and God had to basically 00:51:36.49\00:51:40.20 lengthen the devil's leash or allow him to do it. 00:51:40.23\00:51:44.20 So you might say, "Well, God sent the devil to Job." 00:51:44.23\00:51:47.64 You know, God, every good and perfect gift comes from God. 00:51:47.67\00:51:51.31 God allowed Job to be tested to a certain point to demonstrate 00:51:51.34\00:51:55.81 his faith and even to strengthen his faith. 00:51:55.84\00:51:58.95 But it was the devil that did it, 00:51:58.98\00:52:01.38 it was the devil that initiated it. 00:52:01.42\00:52:03.35 And it's the same thing that you're reading about 00:52:03.39\00:52:05.39 with King Saul. 00:52:05.42\00:52:07.16 Saul grieved away the Holy Spirit because of his pride. 00:52:07.19\00:52:09.39 And when you grieve away the light, the only thing that's 00:52:09.42\00:52:11.73 left is darkness. 00:52:11.76\00:52:13.06 The devil came in as an evil spirit and filled that vacuum 00:52:13.09\00:52:16.83 and tormented the king. 00:52:16.87\00:52:18.57 So the Hebrew uses kind of the old phrase, came from the Lord. 00:52:18.60\00:52:23.81 Hey friends, you've asked some great questions tonight 00:52:23.84\00:52:26.27 and I just as time goes so quickly, 00:52:26.31\00:52:27.81 I wish we had more time Pastor Ross. 00:52:27.84\00:52:29.61 Thanks so much for studying the Word of God with us and Lord 00:52:29.64\00:52:32.38 willing, we'll do it again together next week. 00:52:32.41\00:52:35.12 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:52:37.62\00:52:40.46 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:52:40.49\00:52:43.99 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:52:44.03\00:52:47.86 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:52:47.93\00:52:52.17 ¤¤¤ 00:52:56.60\00:53:05.85 announcer: What if you could know the future, 00:53:06.55\00:53:09.55 what would you do? 00:53:09.58\00:53:12.62 What would you change? 00:53:12.65\00:53:15.02 To see the future, you must understand the past. 00:53:15.06\00:53:19.39 male: Alexander The Great becomes King when he is only 00:53:19.43\00:53:21.56 18 but he's a military prodigy. 00:53:21.60\00:53:25.30 male: 150 years in advance, Cyrus had been named. 00:53:25.33\00:53:29.00 male: Rome was violent, they were ruthless, 00:53:29.04\00:53:34.08 they were determined. 00:53:34.11\00:53:35.58 announcer: This intriguing documentary hosted by 00:53:35.61\00:53:37.71 Pastor Doug Bachelor, explores the most striking Bible 00:53:37.75\00:53:41.35 prophecies that have been dramatically fulfilled 00:53:41.38\00:53:44.32 throughout history 00:53:44.35\00:53:45.69 "Kingdoms In Time." 00:53:45.72\00:53:48.09 Are you ready? 00:53:48.12\00:53:50.19 male announcer: Did you know that Noah was present 00:53:54.20\00:53:55.93 at the birth of Abraham? 00:53:55.96\00:53:57.83 Okay, maybe he wasn't in the room, but he was alive 00:53:57.87\00:54:01.80 and probably telling stories about his floating zoo. 00:54:01.84\00:54:04.97 From the creation of the world to the last day events of 00:54:05.01\00:54:08.04 Revelation, biblehistory.com is a free resource where you can 00:54:08.08\00:54:12.01 explore major Bible events and characters, enhance your 00:54:12.05\00:54:15.55 knowledge of the Bible, and draw closer to God's Word. 00:54:15.58\00:54:19.39 Go deeper, visit the amazing Bible timeline 00:54:19.42\00:54:22.82 at biblehistory.com. 00:54:22.86\00:54:24.83 Pastor Doug Bachelor: The US government is drowning in debt 00:54:26.56\00:54:28.90 to the tune of $22 Trillion. 00:54:28.93\00:54:31.97 But before you wag your finger at the government spending, 00:54:32.00\00:54:34.50 the Federal Reserve says, "The average American household 00:54:34.54\00:54:38.11 carries over $137,000 in debt. 00:54:38.14\00:54:42.11 While it was never God's plan that we live with a burden of 00:54:42.14\00:54:44.78 debt, Proverbs 22:7 warns us "The rich rules over the poor 00:54:44.81\00:54:49.48 and the borrower is servant to the lender." 00:54:49.52\00:54:52.52 Living with debt is a stressful burden that actually hurts 00:54:52.55\00:54:55.02 your relationship with God. 00:54:55.06\00:54:57.03 In my new pocketbook, "Deliverance From Debt," 00:54:57.06\00:54:59.53 I outline the Bible principles on how to properly manage your 00:54:59.56\00:55:03.20 money with some practical suggestions and how you can get 00:55:03.23\00:55:06.00 out and stay out of debt. 00:55:06.03\00:55:08.24 If you or someone you love is drowning in debt, order a copy 00:55:08.27\00:55:12.27 of "Deliverance From Debt" today. 00:55:12.31\00:55:14.54 It can be a lifesaver to keep you from going under. 00:55:14.58\00:55:17.31 Please call 800-538-7275 or visit afbookstore.com. 00:55:17.35\00:55:23.52 Jean: Hello friends, for those of you who stayed by, we 00:55:30.06\00:55:32.39 had to greet and say goodbye to those listening on Satellite 00:55:32.43\00:55:34.63 radio but for the rest of you, we've got your email questions 00:55:34.66\00:55:37.87 that we'd like to answer. 00:55:37.90\00:55:39.27 If you have a Bible question you want to email to us, it's just 00:55:39.30\00:55:41.30 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:41.34\00:55:44.77 Pastor Doug, question number one, "Is Satan an Angel?" 00:55:44.81\00:55:48.48 I know that he was a covering cherub but is that the same 00:55:48.51\00:55:51.48 as an angelic being? 00:55:51.51\00:55:52.98 Doug: Well, I think that he would be in the category of 00:55:53.01\00:55:57.35 angels and you can read, is it, 2 Corinthians chapter 11, 00:55:57.39\00:56:02.22 it says, "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed 00:56:02.26\00:56:05.63 into an angel of light." 00:56:05.66\00:56:07.86 Well, he's an angel of darkness 00:56:07.93\00:56:09.53 but he can look like an angel of light. 00:56:09.56\00:56:11.37 So we would categorize him as an angel. 00:56:11.40\00:56:13.20 Jean: Does a person need to be baptized to get to heaven? 00:56:13.23\00:56:16.07 Doug: Well, we are not saved by virtue of baptism. 00:56:16.10\00:56:19.87 I don't want to give the wrong impression. 00:56:19.91\00:56:21.54 There will be people in heaven who are not baptized but Christ 00:56:21.58\00:56:25.25 is pretty clear in the New Testament. 00:56:25.28\00:56:27.98 It says, John the Baptist was doing baptism and the last words 00:56:28.02\00:56:31.62 of Jesus are go teach baptize. 00:56:31.65\00:56:33.96 And He said, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved." 00:56:33.99\00:56:37.39 And Peter said, "Repent and be baptized and you'll receive 00:56:37.43\00:56:40.46 the gift of the Holy Spirit." 00:56:40.50\00:56:42.06 So baptism is as important to a Christian as a wedding 00:56:42.10\00:56:46.33 is to a marriage. 00:56:46.37\00:56:48.34 So if a believer can be, they must be. 00:56:48.37\00:56:52.91 Jean: All right, then there's a follow on question, it says, 00:56:52.94\00:56:55.81 who then can do the baptism? 00:56:55.84\00:56:58.48 Can any other Christian do the baptism or do they have 00:56:58.51\00:57:00.85 to be a licensed pastor? 00:57:00.88\00:57:02.55 How does that work? 00:57:02.58\00:57:04.42 Doug: You know, it seems that in the Bible that Jesus 00:57:04.45\00:57:07.79 authorized certain leadership to perform baptisms. 00:57:07.82\00:57:10.19 They were the very least deacons but typically the apostles. 00:57:10.23\00:57:12.53 And in Samaria when they accepted the Lord, 00:57:12.56\00:57:14.76 they then sent John and Peter to lay hands on them. 00:57:14.83\00:57:18.10 And so there was some authority designated making sure those 00:57:18.13\00:57:21.50 that were baptized were clearly instructed in the gospel. 00:57:21.54\00:57:25.34 Jean: Okay, "Do we know anything more about 00:57:25.37\00:57:28.11 the mark that was placed on Cain after he killed Abel?" 00:57:28.14\00:57:32.15 Doug: You know, that is something of an enigma 00:57:32.18\00:57:35.05 and pardon the play on words. 00:57:35.08\00:57:37.62 It just says a mark and the word is almost like, you know, 00:57:37.65\00:57:41.16 something that would be impressed or engraved but 00:57:41.19\00:57:43.59 it may have been a mark as though he was a marked man. 00:57:43.63\00:57:46.76 There was some significant difference, or he had been 00:57:46.80\00:57:49.40 marked by his behavior and his record. 00:57:49.43\00:57:52.00 We really don't know, it doesn't say anything more than 00:57:52.03\00:57:54.84 what you read there in the text. 00:57:54.87\00:57:56.34 Jean: And of course you also find a mark in Revelation. 00:57:56.37\00:57:59.01 Doug: Yeah, so there's an analogy there. 00:57:59.04\00:58:01.01 Jean: Last quick question, Pastor Doug, "Why are there 00:58:01.04\00:58:03.65 gates on the New Jerusalem if there's nothing Evil outside?" 00:58:03.68\00:58:08.35 Doug: Gates aren't all bad to keep bad things out, gates are 00:58:08.38\00:58:10.72 also borders to keep good in and just gives us a delineation. 00:58:10.75\00:58:15.22 Thank you so much again for your questions. 00:58:15.26\00:58:17.56 God bless we'll study again together next week. 00:58:17.59\00:58:20.10 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:21.73\00:58:23.53 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:23.57\00:58:28.20
