00:00:51.41\00:00:53.52 The largest aircraft that ever flew was the Antonov 225 Mriya. 00:00:53.55\00:00:59.02 Mriya means dream in Ukrainian. 00:00:59.05\00:01:01.52 The aircraft was a modern engineering marvel featuring six 00:01:01.56\00:01:05.43 massive turbofan engines each as big as a cement mixer. 00:01:05.46\00:01:10.13 With an overall size that stretches far as a football 00:01:10.17\00:01:13.13 field from nose to tail and wingtip to wingtip, 00:01:13.17\00:01:16.20 the An-225 could carry 500,000 pounds of cargo. 00:01:16.24\00:01:20.91 That's twice as much as a Boeing 747 freighter. 00:01:20.94\00:01:24.61 It was designed and built in Ukraine throughout the 1980s to 00:01:24.65\00:01:27.98 transport the Soviet space shuttle, and it took its maiden 00:01:28.02\00:01:31.19 flight on December 21, 1988. 00:01:31.22\00:01:34.59 Because it had a maximum takeoff weight of up to 1.32 million 00:01:34.62\00:01:38.29 pounds, the An-225 had 32 landing wheels, with 20 00:01:38.33\00:01:42.93 of them that were steerable. 00:01:42.96\00:01:45.20 The monster aircraft made its international debut in style by 00:01:45.23\00:01:49.17 landing at the 1989 Paris Air Show with a Russian space 00:01:49.20\00:01:53.04 shuttle on its back. 00:01:53.07\00:01:55.34 Sadly, only one An-225 was made, and it was destroyed 00:01:55.38\00:02:00.38 by the Russian missiles in February 2022. 00:02:00.42\00:02:04.55 Anyone who ever saw this behemoth fly will never forget 00:02:04.59\00:02:08.02 the sensation of wonder that something so heavy and massive 00:02:08.06\00:02:11.56 could travel gracefully through the air. 00:02:11.59\00:02:14.30 You know, Pastor Ross, the Bible speaks of an even larger 00:02:14.30\00:02:17.33 transport that will someday go through the skies. 00:02:17.37\00:02:20.40 Jean Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:02:20.44\00:02:21.87 And no need for, you know, turboprop engines to move this 00:02:21.90\00:02:26.51 object through the sky. 00:02:26.54\00:02:28.08 But the Bible does speak of a city that's going to be coming 00:02:28.11\00:02:30.61 from heaven to earth, and of course that city is called 00:02:30.65\00:02:33.42 the New Jerusalem. 00:02:33.45\00:02:35.12 Doug: Yeah, and you can read about that. 00:02:35.15\00:02:36.45 If you look in Revelations 21, verse 2 and 3 it says, "Then I, 00:02:36.48\00:02:40.69 John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of 00:02:40.72\00:02:45.46 heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 00:02:45.49\00:02:49.93 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, 'Behold, the tabernacle 00:02:49.96\00:02:53.54 of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they will 00:02:53.57\00:02:57.41 be His people. 00:02:57.44\00:02:58.74 And God Himself will be with them and be their God.'" 00:02:58.77\00:03:02.61 You know, it's just--it's difficult sometimes for 00:03:02.64\00:03:05.31 people to imagine a city floating through the sky. 00:03:05.35\00:03:09.78 Well, it's not as difficult maybe as it used to be because 00:03:09.82\00:03:11.75 we've got a space station up there in the sky right now. 00:03:11.79\00:03:14.89 And if man can do it, then why would 00:03:14.92\00:03:16.76 we think God couldn't do it? 00:03:16.79\00:03:19.26 So it is real. 00:03:19.29\00:03:21.26 God has a real city in space that is going to come down out 00:03:21.30\00:03:24.73 of heaven to the earth, and He wants you in the city. 00:03:24.77\00:03:28.10 We have a special lesson that talks about heaven and this 00:03:28.14\00:03:31.97 colossal city. 00:03:32.01\00:03:33.48 Jean: That's right. 00:03:33.51\00:03:34.91 The study guide is actually called "A Colossal City 00:03:34.94\00:03:36.44 in Space." 00:03:36.48\00:03:37.78 That is our free offer to anyone who is watching or listening. 00:03:37.81\00:03:40.42 To receive it, just call the number 800-835-6747. 00:03:40.45\00:03:45.09 You can ask for offer number 115. 00:03:45.12\00:03:47.66 Or you just dial #250 on your phone and say "Bible Answers 00:03:47.69\00:03:52.93 Live" and then ask for the study guide. 00:03:52.96\00:03:54.60 It's called "A Colossal City in Space." 00:03:54.63\00:03:56.90 We'll be happy to send it to anyone here in--listening 00:03:56.93\00:03:59.17 in North America, the US and Canada. 00:03:59.20\00:04:01.54 And if you are outside of North America, you can just go to our 00:04:01.57\00:04:04.44 website, just amazingfacts.org, and you'll be able to read 00:04:04.47\00:04:08.21 the study guide right there for free as well. 00:04:08.24\00:04:11.08 Well, as mentioned, Pastor Doug, this is "Bible Answers Live." 00:04:11.11\00:04:13.55 So we want to welcome all of those who are joining us across 00:04:13.58\00:04:15.95 the country and around the world. 00:04:15.98\00:04:17.32 And for those who are tuning in on the internet we want to 00:04:17.35\00:04:19.65 welcome you as well, and the various television networks. 00:04:19.69\00:04:22.66 You know, before we get to the Bible questions, it's always 00:04:22.69\00:04:25.29 important for us to begin with prayer because 00:04:25.33\00:04:26.86 we're talking about God's book. 00:04:26.90\00:04:28.56 And if we're going to understand God's book correctly, we want 00:04:28.60\00:04:30.67 the Holy Spirit to be with us. 00:04:30.70\00:04:32.20 So let's do that. 00:04:32.23\00:04:33.54 Dear Father, we thank You for Your Word. 00:04:33.57\00:04:34.97 We thank You for the opportunity that we have to be able to 00:04:35.00\00:04:36.81 study and learn, and we do ask Your blessing. 00:04:36.84\00:04:38.87 Send the Spirit that inspired the book at the beginning to be 00:04:38.91\00:04:41.64 with us, Lord. 00:04:41.68\00:04:43.01 Be with those who are listening wherever they might be. 00:04:43.04\00:04:44.85 In Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:44.88\00:04:46.51 Doug: Amen. 00:04:46.55\00:04:47.85 All right, we're ready to go to the phone lines. 00:04:47.88\00:04:49.55 Our first caller for this evening is Elijah listening 00:04:49.58\00:04:51.19 in Washington. 00:04:51.22\00:04:52.52 Elijah, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:04:52.55\00:04:54.66 Elijah: Hello, pastors. 00:04:54.69\00:04:56.09 Thank you guys for taking my call. 00:04:56.12\00:04:57.43 Doug: Well, thanks for calling. 00:04:57.46\00:04:58.79 Elijah: So my question was, during Jesus's ministry on earth 00:04:58.83\00:05:02.43 here, did he remember his position in heaven in creating 00:05:02.46\00:05:08.87 the world and walking in the garden with Adam and Eve 00:05:08.90\00:05:12.07 and all those things? 00:05:12.11\00:05:14.21 That was my question. 00:05:14.24\00:05:16.75 And if he did or if he didn't, is there a reason why? 00:05:16.78\00:05:21.52 Which I'm sure there is a reason why, but-- 00:05:21.55\00:05:23.42 Doug: Well, that's a good question. 00:05:23.45\00:05:24.89 Let's talk about that for a minute. 00:05:24.92\00:05:26.52 So I think you would agree, Elijah, that when Jesus was born 00:05:26.55\00:05:30.33 as a baby and he looked up at his mother and his father, he 00:05:30.36\00:05:34.23 did not have all of the knowledge of life and his 00:05:34.30\00:05:37.20 pre-incarnate existence in his mind or he would've come forth 00:05:37.23\00:05:41.80 into the world speaking. 00:05:41.84\00:05:44.11 He had to learn to speak. 00:05:44.14\00:05:45.67 That means he didn't know everything. 00:05:45.71\00:05:47.04 He probably had to learn to walk like a normal child, and it 00:05:47.08\00:05:50.25 seems that as he needed to know something his Father in heaven 00:05:50.28\00:05:54.22 would reveal it to him. 00:05:54.25\00:05:55.58 Now, did he know something of his pre-existence? 00:05:55.62\00:05:57.99 Yes. 00:05:58.02\00:05:59.25 Because he told the religious leaders, "Before Abraham was, 00:05:59.29\00:06:01.69 I am." 00:06:01.72\00:06:03.22 So he knew something, and he says, you know, "Abraham longed 00:06:03.26\00:06:06.16 to see my day and he saw it." 00:06:06.19\00:06:09.50 So I think that Jesus understood something. 00:06:09.53\00:06:13.17 I'm not sure that at the time he was living on the earth and 00:06:13.20\00:06:16.20 walking around it he had all the knowledge of the creation and 00:06:16.24\00:06:21.01 everything through eternity in his mind, but--I don't know. 00:06:21.04\00:06:24.65 I mean, it just doesn't say. 00:06:24.68\00:06:26.18 Jean: You know, just to add to that, Pastor Doug, one time 00:06:26.21\00:06:27.78 the disciples asked Jesus, they said when is he coming back; and 00:06:27.82\00:06:32.05 Jesus said, "No man knows the day or the hour. 00:06:32.09\00:06:34.49 Only the Father in heaven." 00:06:34.52\00:06:36.73 So at that point, the specifics hadn't been revealed to Christ. 00:06:36.76\00:06:40.80 Obviously, now he does. He's with the Father. 00:06:40.83\00:06:42.96 So they were some things, like you mentioned, that they were 00:06:43.00\00:06:45.70 revealed to Christ as needed by the Holy Spirit. 00:06:45.73\00:06:49.80 Doug: Yeah, so yeah, hopefully that helps, Elijah. 00:06:49.84\00:06:52.74 Good question. 00:06:52.77\00:06:54.08 Jean: All right, we've got Edward listening in Arizona. 00:06:54.11\00:06:55.44 Edward, welcome to the program. 00:06:55.48\00:06:58.11 Edward: Hey. How are you doing, pastors? 00:06:58.15\00:06:59.95 Doug: Doing wonderful. Thank you for calling. 00:07:00.05\00:07:02.22 Edward: Thank you guys for accepting my call. 00:07:02.25\00:07:04.49 If you're schizoaffectious, do you have to overcome the 00:07:04.52\00:07:07.86 schizoaffective disorder for your place, 00:07:07.89\00:07:11.36 I mean, in the kingdom of God? 00:07:11.39\00:07:13.26 And if so, how do you overcome it? 00:07:13.29\00:07:15.96 Doug: Well, the Lord meets us where we're at, and--you know, 00:07:16.00\00:07:19.47 I'm not saying that medical conditions can't be overcome 00:07:19.50\00:07:24.04 because of course Jesus can heal physical, mental, 00:07:24.07\00:07:27.24 psychological illnesses. 00:07:27.28\00:07:29.21 But that doesn't mean that a person that may be struggling 00:07:29.24\00:07:31.88 with these things will always be healed, and it doesn't mean that 00:07:31.91\00:07:36.05 something--you know, some medical condition you're born 00:07:36.08\00:07:38.35 with is going to keep you from the kingdom. 00:07:38.39\00:07:40.62 I think God expects us to surrender to Him, to trust Him, 00:07:40.66\00:07:43.69 we're saved by faith, and to walk in the light as we have it 00:07:43.73\00:07:47.66 and--any thoughts on that? 00:07:47.73\00:07:50.77 Jean: Absolutely. 00:07:50.80\00:07:52.03 You know, as we come to Christ, we can give ourselves completely 00:07:52.07\00:07:53.84 to him and say, "Lord, you know, give me the strength to change 00:07:53.87\00:07:55.74 those things I can change and then give me the courage and the 00:07:55.77\00:08:00.31 faith to accept those things that I can't." 00:08:00.34\00:08:03.04 And place it in your hand and believe that you 00:08:03.08\00:08:04.51 will work things out. 00:08:04.55\00:08:06.05 So it's a corporative relationship. 00:08:06.08\00:08:07.88 We're trusting in God to do the work that only He can do, but we 00:08:07.92\00:08:10.45 are surrendering ourselves to Him. 00:08:10.49\00:08:13.19 Doug: Yeah. Does that make sense, Gary? 00:08:13.22\00:08:15.26 I'm sorry. Edward? 00:08:15.29\00:08:16.96 Edward: Yeah, that does make sense. 00:08:16.99\00:08:18.99 Doug: Okay. 00:08:19.03\00:08:20.36 Well, you just keep trusting Jesus and ask him to help you 00:08:20.40\00:08:22.93 grow in grace and victory and, you know, always pray that he 00:08:22.96\00:08:27.94 can heal you because I never underestimate God's ability 00:08:27.97\00:08:30.71 to heal and to transform. 00:08:30.74\00:08:32.37 That's the new birth. 00:08:32.41\00:08:34.18 Jean: All right. 00:08:34.21\00:08:35.51 Next caller that we have is Gary listening in Illinois. 00:08:35.54\00:08:37.28 Gary, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:08:37.31\00:08:39.61 Gary: In the church it's often said as God protected 00:08:39.65\00:08:42.05 Israel during the plagues we'll be protected, but I see 00:08:42.08\00:08:45.15 in Matthew 24, verse 13 he who endures to the end 00:08:45.19\00:08:49.16 will be saved. 00:08:49.19\00:08:50.63 It implies that we're suffering because we are enduring. 00:08:50.66\00:08:53.40 And then, again, in verse 22, "But for the elect's sake these 00:08:53.43\00:08:56.60 days will be shortened." 00:08:56.63\00:08:58.13 It, again, implies that we're suffering, and I think 00:08:58.17\00:09:01.04 it's already happening. 00:09:01.07\00:09:02.44 In Illinois we've got tornados 2 and 3 miles wide travel 00:09:02.47\00:09:05.51 for hundreds of miles. 00:09:05.54\00:09:07.04 So my question is, is God protecting us 00:09:07.08\00:09:09.41 or what's going on? 00:09:09.44\00:09:12.08 Doug: Well, it's a mix, and let me use a Bible example. 00:09:12.11\00:09:15.98 The children of Israel who went through the ten plagues in 00:09:16.02\00:09:20.02 Egypt, God protected them through the last seven plagues, 00:09:20.06\00:09:24.66 but they also experienced the same calamity as the Egyptians 00:09:24.69\00:09:28.36 for--through the first three plagues. 00:09:28.40\00:09:30.93 So in the last days when the seven last plagues fall, God is 00:09:30.97\00:09:35.04 going to protect His people. 00:09:35.07\00:09:36.87 I don't think what you're seeing now are the seven last plagues 00:09:36.91\00:09:40.51 because once the seven last plagues begin probation is 00:09:40.54\00:09:43.51 closed and no one's going to be saved after that. 00:09:43.55\00:09:46.72 So do Christians, the righteous sometimes suffer along 00:09:46.75\00:09:49.72 with the wicked? 00:09:49.75\00:09:51.22 Yeah, that's always been the case. 00:09:51.25\00:09:53.42 God does love and also watches over His people. 00:09:53.46\00:09:56.96 But, you know, in times of trial believers often testify by their 00:09:56.99\00:10:01.63 faith through trial, not because He saves us from every trial. 00:10:01.66\00:10:06.00 And we grow patience through trial. 00:10:06.03\00:10:08.97 Jean: All right. Thank you, Gary. 00:10:09.00\00:10:10.37 We've got Junith listening in Nevada. 00:10:10.41\00:10:12.41 Junith, welcome to the program. 00:10:12.44\00:10:14.98 Junith: Hello. 00:10:15.01\00:10:16.91 A blessed evening, Pastor Ross and Pastor Doug. 00:10:16.95\00:10:19.95 Can you hear me? 00:10:19.98\00:10:21.45 Doug: Yes. 00:10:21.48\00:10:23.02 Junith: Yes? Okay, wonderful. 00:10:23.05\00:10:25.22 Thank you for taking my call. 00:10:25.25\00:10:26.86 My question is, did Jesus come to the world through the cruel 00:10:26.89\00:10:33.60 cross of Calvary not just to bring back his perfect circle of 00:10:33.63\00:10:40.94 love and his perfect shalom to earth--the planet earth but also 00:10:40.97\00:10:47.51 he did it because--to restore the same circle of his love and 00:10:47.54\00:10:54.15 shalom to the whole universe because in assassinating his 00:10:54.18\00:10:59.42 character by Lucifer the holy angels did not understand. 00:10:59.45\00:11:04.96 Can you please explain further more in that perspective? 00:11:04.99\00:11:09.00 Thank you. 00:11:09.03\00:11:10.67 Doug: Yeah. 00:11:10.70\00:11:12.07 So yes, Jesus--one of the things that Christ did by his death is 00:11:12.10\00:11:16.37 to restore a better image of the character of God. 00:11:16.40\00:11:22.51 That's why Jesus said, "If you've seen me, 00:11:22.54\00:11:24.21 you've seen the Father." 00:11:24.25\00:11:25.78 He said he came to reveal the Father among other things. 00:11:25.81\00:11:27.62 He also came as our sacrifice, and he also is restoring peace 00:11:27.65\00:11:31.72 not only to the planet. 00:11:31.75\00:11:33.39 It says he's going to make a new heaven and a new earth. 00:11:33.42\00:11:36.52 All things that were made were made by Jesus, meaning he made 00:11:36.56\00:11:39.16 the first heaven and earth; and then after the wicked are 00:11:39.19\00:11:44.03 judged, he creates a new heaven and a new earth. 00:11:44.07\00:11:47.24 And so there'll be a total restoration and Satan and his 00:11:47.27\00:11:52.44 angels and all the wicked are going to be destroyed 00:11:52.47\00:11:55.61 with an everlasting fire, meaning they're burnt up 00:11:55.64\00:11:57.78 forever and the universe has no more pain, sorrow. 00:11:57.81\00:12:01.38 All things are made new. 00:12:01.42\00:12:03.62 So it's a total restoration of His original plan, 00:12:03.65\00:12:05.92 but it's actually an upgrade. 00:12:05.95\00:12:07.86 Jean: You know, the Bible also tells us that when that 00:12:07.89\00:12:09.36 time comes, when the judgment has been taking place and 00:12:09.39\00:12:12.73 everybody sees the truth, every knee will bow and every tongue 00:12:12.76\00:12:16.83 will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. 00:12:16.87\00:12:18.83 There's no exceptions to that rule, 00:12:18.87\00:12:20.60 so that will include both the angels. 00:12:20.64\00:12:22.37 Even the devil himself will acknowledge that God is fair and 00:12:22.40\00:12:25.11 just in what He has done. 00:12:25.14\00:12:26.68 Now, that doesn't mean it's genuine conversion or 00:12:26.71\00:12:28.78 repentance, but there is an acknowledgment of God's 00:12:28.81\00:12:31.51 character and that'll be manifested right 00:12:31.55\00:12:33.75 at the end of time. 00:12:33.78\00:12:35.68 Doug: Thank you. Appreciate that, Junith. 00:12:35.72\00:12:37.29 Jean: All right, we got Brad listening in California. 00:12:37.32\00:12:38.95 Brad, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:12:38.99\00:12:41.46 Brad: My question pertains to Psalms 137, verse 1, and it's 00:12:41.49\00:12:46.73 kind of a two-part question. 00:12:46.76\00:12:47.96 I was wondering--I was always under the impression that when 00:12:48.00\00:12:49.80 David went to his grave, that he passed his blessing on to 00:12:49.83\00:12:53.94 Solomon and he thought that the throne would be established in 00:12:53.97\00:12:58.81 his bloodline forever yet in Psalms 137:1 he's writing the 00:12:58.84\00:13:03.98 song that the Israelites sang when they were taken captive in 00:13:04.01\00:13:07.88 Babylon, and I was wondering--I'm trying to wrap my 00:13:07.92\00:13:11.82 head around that. 00:13:11.85\00:13:13.15 Did he know that Israel would eventually be taken captive 00:13:13.19\00:13:16.16 and not tell his son? 00:13:16.19\00:13:19.29 Doug: Yeah. 00:13:19.33\00:13:20.63 First of all, you know, Jesus, Brad, didn't--I'm sorry. 00:13:20.66\00:13:23.03 David did not write all of the psalms. 00:13:23.06\00:13:26.80 David wrote about 70, maybe 71 of the psalms. 00:13:26.84\00:13:30.84 The later psalms are written by some of his musicians and others 00:13:30.87\00:13:33.78 like Asaph, and it talks about them. 00:13:33.81\00:13:36.18 You'll notice that some of the psalms will say 00:13:36.21\00:13:38.05 a Psalm of David, and then some of them, like 137, 00:13:38.08\00:13:41.12 it's talking about Babylon. 00:13:41.15\00:13:42.98 This is a psalm that was probably written 00:13:43.02\00:13:45.35 following the captivity. 00:13:45.39\00:13:47.02 Isn't that your understanding, Pastor Ross, that 00:13:47.06\00:13:48.82 they're--because it's saying, 00:13:48.86\00:13:50.26 "By the rivers of Babylon we wept." 00:13:50.29\00:13:51.59 This is after they had been captured by Nebuchadnezzar. 00:13:51.63\00:13:53.83 It's one of the later psalms. 00:13:53.86\00:13:55.43 And so I don't know if that helps with your question 00:13:55.46\00:13:58.60 just to know that David probably didn't write this one. 00:13:58.63\00:14:02.60 Brad: Yeah. 00:14:02.64\00:14:04.04 I was always under the impression that the whole book 00:14:04.07\00:14:05.71 of Psalms was written before Solomon took the throne. 00:14:05.74\00:14:07.88 Doug: I used to think that all the psalms were written by 00:14:07.91\00:14:10.01 David because so many of them began the Psalm of David, the 00:14:10.05\00:14:12.35 Psalm of David like Psalm 23. 00:14:12.38\00:14:14.82 But one psalm is written by Moses. 00:14:14.85\00:14:16.48 I think--is it 90 or 91? 00:14:16.52\00:14:18.19 It's written by Moses, and many are by Solomon, 00:14:18.22\00:14:20.96 some are by Asaph. 00:14:20.99\00:14:22.89 But David wrote about 70 as near as we can tell. 00:14:22.92\00:14:25.59 So just about half. 00:14:25.63\00:14:28.76 This is probably not one because it's talking about the 00:14:28.80\00:14:30.87 Babylonian captivity that happened many generations. 00:14:30.90\00:14:33.97 Now, it is true that the son of David--all the sons of 00:14:34.00\00:14:38.01 David--that was kept in the genealogy; and it mentions this 00:14:38.04\00:14:43.18 in Matthew, that Jesus is a direct descendant of David and 00:14:43.21\00:14:47.28 Solomon and that he is the ultimate son of David 00:14:47.32\00:14:51.19 that would reign forever. 00:14:51.22\00:14:53.15 So the line of the Davidic promise and the covenant 00:14:53.19\00:14:57.23 to David did not fail. 00:14:57.26\00:14:59.49 Some of the kings did not reign between the Babylonian 00:14:59.53\00:15:02.03 captivity and Christ. 00:15:02.06\00:15:04.53 I think even Zerubbabel was a descendant of David. 00:15:04.57\00:15:06.87 So briefly they had a governor. 00:15:06.90\00:15:08.97 But anyway, hope that helps a little bit. 00:15:09.00\00:15:11.27 Thanks so much. Appreciate that, Brad. 00:15:11.31\00:15:13.44 Jean: All right. 00:15:13.48\00:15:14.81 Next caller that we have is Mark listening in Alaska. 00:15:14.84\00:15:16.44 Mark, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:15:16.48\00:15:19.45 Mark: Hey. How is it going, pastors? 00:15:19.48\00:15:21.12 Thanks a got--a lot for you guys' passion. 00:15:21.15\00:15:24.59 I really enjoy your interpretations, and I really 00:15:24.62\00:15:28.19 enjoy listening to you guys sometimes because it helps me 00:15:28.22\00:15:32.16 with my interpretations. 00:15:32.19\00:15:34.13 Doug: Well, thank you. 00:15:34.20\00:15:35.46 We appreciate it, and glad we could be of service. 00:15:35.50\00:15:37.37 And your question tonight? 00:15:37.40\00:15:39.30 Mark: Yeah, I had a question on 13--Matthew 13:44, 00:15:39.33\00:15:43.64 and it talks about the treasure--the kingdom 00:15:43.67\00:15:48.04 is like a treasure hidden in a field. 00:15:48.08\00:15:51.25 And maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that--my 00:15:51.28\00:15:56.75 understanding is the treasure ain't hidden. 00:15:56.79\00:16:00.22 I think maybe I'm wrong, but--maybe correct me. 00:16:00.26\00:16:04.69 I think that Jesus is saying this treasure that is hidden 00:16:04.73\00:16:10.17 is the synagogue of Satan and they're in unity 00:16:10.20\00:16:14.64 and they're hard workers. 00:16:14.67\00:16:16.97 The secular civil government, they're such hard workers. 00:16:17.01\00:16:21.84 Don't you think that maybe Jesus was saying look at these people. 00:16:21.88\00:16:25.85 If the Christians could only work as hard as these people-- 00:16:25.88\00:16:30.65 Doug: Okay, let's take a stab at it. 00:16:30.69\00:16:33.05 Now, I'm going to read this for our friends 00:16:33.09\00:16:34.72 who are listening, Mark. 00:16:34.76\00:16:36.79 A lot of folks are driving down the road and they can't look it 00:16:36.83\00:16:38.73 up, and this is in Matthew chapter 13, verse 44. 00:16:38.76\00:16:42.63 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a 00:16:42.66\00:16:45.00 field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes 00:16:45.03\00:16:50.17 and sells all that he has and buys the field." 00:16:50.21\00:16:53.11 Now, it is true that there are people in the world that are 00:16:53.14\00:16:55.91 very diligent workers. 00:16:55.94\00:16:58.98 But I think the picture in this parable--let me 00:16:59.01\00:17:02.38 just back you up. 00:17:02.42\00:17:03.99 In Bible times, they did not have banks as we do today. 00:17:04.02\00:17:06.49 And if people wanted to go shopping, 00:17:06.52\00:17:09.59 they'd get their money. 00:17:09.62\00:17:10.93 They didn't always keep it in the house because--maybe 00:17:10.96\00:17:12.56 a little bit because people could rob it. 00:17:12.59\00:17:16.03 And it was very common for people to bury their treasures 00:17:16.06\00:17:19.07 somewhere on their property, and it will often happen that 00:17:19.10\00:17:23.67 someone would die and someone else would find it. 00:17:23.71\00:17:26.41 Now, right here in Northern California 00:17:26.44\00:17:28.01 we had someone up the road. 00:17:28.04\00:17:30.35 They were out walking their dog and they found cans--some like 00:17:30.38\00:17:34.45 5-gallon old cans filled with gold coins 00:17:34.48\00:17:37.59 from the San Francisco Mint. 00:17:37.62\00:17:39.39 They're worth a fortune, millions of dollars 00:17:39.42\00:17:40.99 they found on their land. 00:17:41.02\00:17:43.02 Now this man he's leasing land and he's out plowing the land 00:17:43.06\00:17:46.76 and he uproots someone's treasure, and it says and he hid 00:17:46.80\00:17:49.73 it, means--he thought, "Oh, man, I know this field is very 00:17:49.76\00:17:52.30 valuable to get treasure." 00:17:52.33\00:17:53.94 He could just steal the treasure, but he doesn't. 00:17:53.97\00:17:55.44 He's honest. 00:17:55.47\00:17:56.77 He says, "I'm going to buy the field, then I own the treasure." 00:17:56.81\00:17:58.77 So he cover it up. 00:17:58.81\00:18:00.18 It says he goes and he buys the field. 00:18:00.21\00:18:01.51 He's willing to sell everything to get the field. 00:18:01.54\00:18:03.08 This is talking about really somebody who discovers the good 00:18:03.11\00:18:06.18 news of the gospel and they realize its value, 00:18:06.21\00:18:09.55 and they sell everything to get it. 00:18:09.58\00:18:11.19 Now, this parable is very much like the one follows about a 00:18:11.22\00:18:14.16 merchant who finds a beautiful pearl of great price 00:18:14.19\00:18:17.39 and he sells everything to get this one pearl. 00:18:17.43\00:18:20.36 The point is Jesus is saying they were willing to give all 00:18:20.40\00:18:24.73 for the treasure, and we need to be willing to--he says, 00:18:24.77\00:18:28.00 "If you don't forsake all, take up your cross and follow me, 00:18:28.04\00:18:30.97 you're not worthy." 00:18:31.01\00:18:32.34 That means we give God 100% of our heart. 00:18:32.37\00:18:34.24 He said we need to love Him more than our father, mother, sister, 00:18:34.28\00:18:36.61 brother, husband, wife. 00:18:36.64\00:18:39.01 We need to love Him first. 00:18:39.05\00:18:41.15 And so this is one of the many parables that talks about 00:18:41.18\00:18:43.42 it's worth everything to follow Christ. 00:18:43.45\00:18:47.22 Jean: All right. Thank you, Mark. 00:18:47.26\00:18:48.56 We've got Anna listening in Oregon. 00:18:48.59\00:18:49.89 Anna, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:18:49.92\00:18:53.19 Anna: Evening, pastors. Doug: Evening. 00:18:53.23\00:18:55.26 Anna: My question is about jewelry and what the Bible says 00:18:55.30\00:19:02.30 about it, but in particular wearing a cross. 00:19:02.34\00:19:06.04 Is that a form of, like, idol worship? 00:19:06.07\00:19:09.28 Doug: Well, I would say--you know, certainly there's going to 00:19:09.31\00:19:11.21 be a lot of people in heaven that wear crosses, but there's 00:19:11.25\00:19:13.15 really no command in the Bible that says to wear a cross. 00:19:13.18\00:19:16.12 We're told to bear the cross, and--you know, 00:19:16.15\00:19:19.89 the cross was a--it's an instrument of torture. 00:19:19.92\00:19:23.06 So I don't know that the--anywhere in the Bible had 00:19:23.09\00:19:25.49 ever told us to make crosses and bow to them and everything. 00:19:25.53\00:19:27.76 And I realized that--you know, Paul says, "I'm determined to 00:19:27.76\00:19:30.33 know nothing among you but Jesus Christ and him crucified, 00:19:30.37\00:19:34.07 and I'll glory in the cross." 00:19:34.10\00:19:35.74 And that means the sacrifice of Christ. 00:19:35.77\00:19:38.64 But sometimes we sort of make an idol out of the icon of the 00:19:38.67\00:19:42.71 cross and we're not really told to do that in the Bible. 00:19:42.74\00:19:46.18 Now, that--you know, that could be lumped together 00:19:46.21\00:19:48.72 with the idea of jewelry. 00:19:48.75\00:19:51.85 And, you know, folks that have listened to me for years know 00:19:51.89\00:19:55.92 that I think that there are commands in the Bible that 00:19:55.96\00:19:59.93 say--and principles that say that Christians should avoid 00:19:59.96\00:20:02.70 wearing jewelry and artificial ornamentation not only because 00:20:02.73\00:20:08.30 it's cost and the display, but there's some Scriptures like 00:20:08.34\00:20:10.97 where Peter says let the adorning not 00:20:11.01\00:20:12.84 be the outward adorning. 00:20:12.87\00:20:14.54 I think this is 1 Peter chapter 3. 00:20:14.58\00:20:17.38 Don't let it be the outward adorning the wearing 00:20:17.41\00:20:19.41 of gold or apparel. 00:20:19.45\00:20:20.88 Paul says let it not be gold and pearls and costly array. 00:20:20.92\00:20:24.72 Let it be modest, and--then in Isaiah talks about the daughters 00:20:24.75\00:20:28.96 of Babylon that go around with, you know, swishing as they go 00:20:28.99\00:20:32.43 wearing, and he talks about a number of jewelry items; 00:20:32.46\00:20:36.80 earrings and so forth, nose rings. 00:20:36.83\00:20:39.40 And I think Christians are best known by simplicity. 00:20:39.43\00:20:43.30 A few years ago a lot of televangelists got into trouble 00:20:43.34\00:20:45.61 with various scandals and the world was having fun making fun 00:20:45.64\00:20:48.94 of the televangelists, and many of them were prosperity 00:20:48.98\00:20:51.41 preachers that wore just a lot of gaudy jewelry and makeup and 00:20:51.45\00:20:55.25 they were mocked because of their appearance. 00:20:55.28\00:20:58.65 So I advocate that the Bible teaches Christians ought to be 00:20:58.69\00:21:02.36 modest--clean and neat, modest. 00:21:02.39\00:21:04.76 It doesn't mean we need to wear rags, but I think we ought to 00:21:04.79\00:21:07.40 avoid any kind of ornamentation. 00:21:07.40\00:21:10.07 And, again, there's nowhere--I know people think wearing 00:21:10.10\00:21:12.80 a cross is good luck. 00:21:12.83\00:21:14.24 Well, that's idolatry. You know, there's no good luck. 00:21:14.27\00:21:17.91 It's not a chicken bone or something 00:21:17.94\00:21:19.51 that--or rabbit's foot. 00:21:19.54\00:21:20.98 So yeah, just letting people know you're a Christian 00:21:21.01\00:21:24.58 is the best thing. 00:21:24.61\00:21:25.95 Now, I do have a book that actually talks about this. 00:21:25.98\00:21:28.68 It's called "Jewelry: How Much Is Too Much?" 00:21:28.72\00:21:31.65 Jean: And we'll be happy to send that to anyone here 00:21:31.69\00:21:33.46 in North America, in the US or in Canada. 00:21:33.49\00:21:35.62 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:21:35.66\00:21:39.56 You can ask for the book called "Jewelry: How Much Is Too Much?" 00:21:39.59\00:21:43.33 You can also just dial #250 on your smartphone, say 00:21:43.37\00:21:47.50 "Bible Answers Live," and then you can also ask for the book 00:21:47.54\00:21:49.77 that way as well. 00:21:49.80\00:21:51.37 If you have a Bible question, our phone line here in the 00:21:51.41\00:21:53.27 studio is 800-463-7297. 00:21:53.31\00:21:57.35 We got Philip listening in Arkansas. 00:21:57.38\00:21:58.88 Philip, welcome to the program. 00:21:58.91\00:22:01.68 Philip: Hi. Good evening. 00:22:01.72\00:22:03.05 Thanks for taking my call. 00:22:03.08\00:22:04.55 Doug: Yes, thank you. 00:22:04.59\00:22:05.95 Philip: Revelation--yeah, I have a question on Revelation 00:22:05.99\00:22:07.46 13:13 through 14. 00:22:07.49\00:22:11.06 Do you guys think that the signs and wonders and miracles part of 00:22:11.09\00:22:14.60 the--that the second beast performs on the sight of the 00:22:14.63\00:22:18.07 first beast, has that started to become fulfilled yet? 00:22:18.10\00:22:21.87 And if so, do you think AI plays any type of role 00:22:21.90\00:22:25.17 with technology in the end? 00:22:25.21\00:22:27.14 Doug: That's a fascinating question. 00:22:27.18\00:22:28.88 I've been thinking a lot about AI this weekend. 00:22:28.91\00:22:31.85 I'll even make a public confession that I tried to 00:22:31.88\00:22:35.65 manufacture my first AI picture. 00:22:35.68\00:22:38.85 Well, I did. 00:22:38.89\00:22:40.19 I didn't do it, but I used one of the online programs to see if 00:22:40.22\00:22:42.89 it would produce a picture of angels flying through heaven 00:22:42.92\00:22:45.33 and it did. 00:22:45.36\00:22:47.40 Pretty kind of rough, but it did and I think, "Boy, this is a 00:22:47.40\00:22:50.00 scary technology." 00:22:50.03\00:22:51.73 Do I think that's the signs and wonders? 00:22:51.77\00:22:53.40 No. 00:22:53.44\00:22:54.80 The second beast is alive and well today. 00:22:54.84\00:22:57.14 I don't think that it's using the signs and wonders it's going 00:22:57.17\00:23:00.68 to use to manipulate the first beast and the rest of the world 00:23:00.71\00:23:04.58 yet because the spiritual issue haven't really matured. 00:23:04.61\00:23:08.35 I don't know if you have any thoughts on that, Pastor Ross. 00:23:08.38\00:23:10.65 Jean: Yeah, when it talks about it, one of 00:23:10.69\00:23:11.99 the signs specifically mentioned is it talks about 00:23:12.02\00:23:13.72 fire coming down from heaven that the second beast will do; 00:23:13.76\00:23:16.96 and we know from the Bible fire coming down from 00:23:16.99\00:23:19.46 heaven is often associated with the Spirit of God or a 00:23:19.49\00:23:22.13 counterfeit of the Spirit of God. 00:23:22.16\00:23:24.60 It can be a blessing or it could be a judgment. 00:23:24.63\00:23:26.87 So what we find in the last days is there's this religious 00:23:26.90\00:23:29.57 movement, and it appears as though God's blessing is on it. 00:23:29.60\00:23:33.81 There's the--fires coming out from heaven. 00:23:33.84\00:23:35.44 There's much emphasis on the Holy Spirit and miracles and 00:23:35.48\00:23:39.01 wonders, and it's not the Spirit of God. 00:23:39.05\00:23:41.72 It's a counterfeit spirit that is leading people astray in the 00:23:41.75\00:23:44.02 last days, and that power working with the political power 00:23:44.05\00:23:47.02 described as the second beast in Revelation 13 00:23:47.06\00:23:49.46 sets things up at the end. 00:23:49.49\00:23:51.73 Doug: Yeah. 00:23:51.76\00:23:52.99 Yeah, we remember in the story of Elijah that the great proof 00:23:53.03\00:23:55.50 that God was with Elijah is that fire came down from heaven. 00:23:55.53\00:23:59.07 So what's the world going to think when all of a sudden the 00:23:59.10\00:24:01.97 great proof that Elijah uses now being used by the counterfeit? 00:24:02.00\00:24:05.07 It's going to be very deceptive. Well, hope that helps a little. 00:24:05.11\00:24:08.61 Thanks so much. We got 2 minutes. 00:24:08.64\00:24:10.01 Can we do one more before our break? 00:24:10.05\00:24:11.48 Jean: We got Lee listening in Texas. 00:24:11.51\00:24:12.81 Lee, welcome to the program. 00:24:12.85\00:24:14.78 Lee: Yes, I was calling because I was supposed to 00:24:14.82\00:24:16.75 be re-baptized on Easter, 00:24:16.79\00:24:19.69 but being--but I've been baptized four times in my life 00:24:19.72\00:24:22.86 and being baptized again on Easter would 00:24:22.89\00:24:24.89 have been my fifth time. 00:24:24.93\00:24:26.76 My pas--the pastor that was going to do it said it's not 00:24:26.80\00:24:29.70 necessary being that I've been baptized so many times. 00:24:29.73\00:24:32.93 Do I still need to be re-baptized again 00:24:32.97\00:24:34.97 or is it not necessary? 00:24:35.00\00:24:37.24 Doug: Well, let me tell you, there's three principal reasons 00:24:37.27\00:24:40.64 a person might be re-baptized. 00:24:40.68\00:24:43.55 One would be if they've never been baptized biblically 00:24:43.58\00:24:46.75 by immersion. 00:24:46.78\00:24:48.18 Some people are baptized as babies and they just didn't know 00:24:48.22\00:24:50.35 what was going on, or they've been sprinkled and the Bible 00:24:50.39\00:24:52.82 is very clear we should be immersed in the water. 00:24:52.85\00:24:55.99 That's what the word baptized means. 00:24:56.02\00:24:57.83 Another reason to be re-baptized would be if you've come into 00:24:57.86\00:25:01.26 just a whole new understanding of what the truth is, and an 00:25:01.30\00:25:04.53 example of that would be Acts 19 where it says these 12--you read 00:25:04.57\00:25:09.40 the first few verses, these 12 Ephesian believers, 00:25:09.44\00:25:12.74 they had heard about John the Baptist. 00:25:12.77\00:25:15.18 They got baptized by immersion. 00:25:15.21\00:25:16.81 But they had not heard about Jesus. 00:25:16.85\00:25:18.51 They had left town before they heard about that and the 00:25:18.55\00:25:20.72 outpouring of the Spirit. 00:25:20.75\00:25:22.15 Paul preached them all this new truth they'd missed and they 00:25:22.18\00:25:24.95 said, "We want to get baptized again." 00:25:24.99\00:25:26.52 And they were and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:25:26.55\00:25:28.92 Third reason to be re-baptized would be is--you've kind of 00:25:28.96\00:25:32.46 divorced yourself from the Lord. 00:25:32.49\00:25:35.96 It doesn't mean, you know--so you're baptized and then you sin 00:25:36.00\00:25:39.83 and you make a mistake, you got to run and get baptized again. 00:25:39.87\00:25:42.34 Well, we'd all be getting baptized every week 00:25:42.37\00:25:44.64 if that was the case. 00:25:44.67\00:25:46.41 So--but if a person is totally--they've stopped 00:25:46.44\00:25:49.44 going to church. 00:25:49.48\00:25:50.78 They've backslidden. 00:25:50.81\00:25:52.28 And it's not that they get discouraged for a week or two 00:25:52.31\00:25:54.95 but the tenor of their life they sort of divorce themselves from 00:25:54.98\00:25:57.55 the church and the Lord, when they return it would probably be 00:25:57.59\00:26:01.82 appropriate to be re-baptized but not in every case and 00:26:01.86\00:26:05.33 it--there's variables. 00:26:05.36\00:26:07.13 Now, how often should a person be re-baptized? 00:26:07.13\00:26:09.46 Well, it's like marriage. 00:26:09.50\00:26:11.33 You know, you--if a person says, "I've been married ten times," 00:26:11.37\00:26:14.04 well, you think there's a problem there. 00:26:14.07\00:26:16.57 It's a sacred ordinance, and you don't want to be doing it 00:26:16.60\00:26:20.01 carelessly or frequently. 00:26:20.04\00:26:22.38 So it should be done with great care, and that covenant 00:26:22.41\00:26:26.51 should be protected. 00:26:26.55\00:26:29.08 Sometimes a person could just go through the communion service 00:26:29.12\00:26:31.52 and that will serve like a mini baptism, 00:26:31.55\00:26:35.29 and it gives them--gives all of us a new beginning. 00:26:35.32\00:26:38.23 So I hope that helps a little bit. 00:26:38.26\00:26:40.03 And we do have a book on "Baptism: Is It Necessary?" 00:26:40.06\00:26:42.80 Lee, you can get a free copy. 00:26:42.83\00:26:44.87 Jean: Just call and ask for that. 00:26:44.90\00:26:46.20 Call Amazing Facts, and we'll be happy to send it to anyone in 00:26:46.23\00:26:48.20 North America who calls and asks. 00:26:48.24\00:26:51.04 Doug: All right. 00:30:42.27\00:30:43.61 Doug: Hi, doing good. Thanks for calling. 00:30:43.64\00:30:45.44 Joan: My question comes today from 2 Kings 5. 00:30:45.47\00:30:48.88 It's the story of Captain Naaman and--with the prophet 00:30:48.91\00:30:52.58 Elijah--Elisha and Gehazi, and I just want to--if you 00:30:52.61\00:30:57.82 could help me paint the picture. 00:30:57.85\00:31:02.26 Gehazi went accepted by lie a payment, went back and the 00:31:02.29\00:31:09.96 prophet said, "Did my heart not go with you as it now 00:31:10.00\00:31:14.74 that you accept payment?" 00:31:14.77\00:31:16.97 And then Prophet Elisha says, "Captain Naaman's leprosy 00:31:17.01\00:31:23.35 will now be with you." 00:31:23.38\00:31:26.08 And he walked out as white as snow, Gehazi. 00:31:26.11\00:31:28.95 So as the story goes on in the Bible with Elisha, it also 00:31:28.98\00:31:34.19 continues with Gehazi. 00:31:34.22\00:31:36.79 So I was just thinking--so does he continue working with the 00:31:36.83\00:31:41.03 prophet as white as snow, with leprosy? 00:31:41.06\00:31:45.13 Doug: Yeah. No. 00:31:45.17\00:31:46.47 I think the next time you see Gehazi he may be--well, 00:31:46.50\00:31:48.17 there's two possible times. 00:31:48.20\00:31:50.11 There are four lepers in 2 Kings chapter 6. 00:31:50.14\00:31:54.28 They're in 2 Kings chapter 7 during a famine, 00:31:54.31\00:31:57.85 and Josephus is one of those four lepers that said, 00:31:57.88\00:32:01.42 "We're not doing what is right. This is a day of good news." 00:32:01.45\00:32:04.19 May have been Gehazi. 00:32:04.22\00:32:06.42 Later you see Gehazi, he's talking to the king and telling 00:32:06.45\00:32:09.29 the king about the miracles of Elisha. 00:32:09.32\00:32:13.23 And a person might say, "Well, if he's got leprosy, what's he 00:32:13.26\00:32:14.83 doing talking to the king?" 00:32:14.83\00:32:16.87 Well, there's a few different possibilities. 00:32:16.90\00:32:18.73 One is that he was later healed and forgiven. 00:32:18.77\00:32:22.40 Doesn't say that in the Bible. 00:32:22.44\00:32:24.11 The other is even people with leprosy could communicate, 00:32:24.14\00:32:28.08 but they had to keep a certain distance. 00:32:28.11\00:32:29.88 And so maybe he was talking to the king. 00:32:29.91\00:32:32.31 It was some distance between them because he was unclean. 00:32:32.35\00:32:36.69 That's a difficult scenario to imagine. 00:32:36.72\00:32:40.02 So--you know, we can only speculate, but Gehazi does 00:32:40.06\00:32:43.89 appear later in the story after he gets leprosy. 00:32:43.93\00:32:48.33 He's talking to the king and telling about 00:32:48.36\00:32:49.86 the miracles of Elisha. 00:32:49.90\00:32:51.37 So he may have been healed. It's hard to say. 00:32:51.40\00:32:53.67 Joan: Yeah, and the other one last story was the 00:32:53.70\00:32:56.91 lady that didn't have a child. 00:32:56.94\00:33:00.28 Doug: Yeah, the Shunammite woman. 00:33:00.31\00:33:02.71 Yeah. 00:33:02.74\00:33:04.08 And the story of the Shunammite--not all the stories 00:33:04.11\00:33:06.01 of Elisha's miracles are in chronological order. 00:33:06.05\00:33:09.48 The emphasis is that Elisha has doubled the Holy Spirit 00:33:09.52\00:33:12.72 of Elijah and then it begins to recount examples 00:33:12.75\00:33:15.82 of his miracles. 00:33:15.86\00:33:17.63 I'm not sure that they're all written in chronological order. 00:33:17.66\00:33:20.80 So the Shunammite, I think, happened before 00:33:20.83\00:33:24.77 the story of Naaman. 00:33:24.80\00:33:27.47 Joan: Okay. Thank you. 00:33:27.50\00:33:28.90 Doug: Thanks. Great questions. 00:33:28.94\00:33:30.81 Jean: All right, next caller that we have 00:33:30.84\00:33:32.14 is Abigail in Florida. 00:33:32.17\00:33:33.74 Abigail, welcome to the program. 00:33:33.78\00:33:36.21 Abigail: Hi, pastors. How are you guys? 00:33:36.24\00:33:38.38 Doug: We're doing much better than we deserve. 00:33:38.41\00:33:41.15 Abigail: Awesome. 00:33:41.18\00:33:42.72 My question is in Matthew 27:52, 53. 00:33:42.75\00:33:49.66 Who were the saints they were referring to? 00:33:49.69\00:33:52.09 Were they people, and did they ascend into heaven 00:33:52.13\00:33:55.13 or where did they go? 00:33:55.16\00:33:56.87 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:33:56.90\00:33:59.00 In Matthew 27 it talks about that when Christ died on the 00:33:59.03\00:34:03.14 cross after he cried out, "Lord, you know, into Your hands 00:34:03.17\00:34:05.47 I commend my spirit. 00:34:05.51\00:34:07.44 It is finished," there's a great earthquake, and in connection 00:34:07.48\00:34:11.21 with that earthquake it says many of the graves--not all. 00:34:11.25\00:34:13.85 It's not a universal resurrection, but many--and not 00:34:13.88\00:34:17.25 all the graves around Jerusalem, but some of the graves of 00:34:17.29\00:34:20.06 saints, saved people who were resting in their graves around 00:34:20.09\00:34:24.56 Jerusalem, were opened. 00:34:24.59\00:34:26.59 And then after when Christ came out of his grave Sunday morning, 00:34:26.63\00:34:29.56 some of them arose and appeared to people in Jerusalem briefly 00:34:29.60\00:34:34.50 probably because it's not even mentioned in John 00:34:34.54\00:34:37.31 or Mark or Luke. 00:34:37.34\00:34:39.24 But there were people who saw some of the resurrected saints 00:34:39.27\00:34:42.14 that evidently they ascended to heaven with Christ when he 00:34:42.18\00:34:44.61 ascended after he'd spoken with Mary. 00:34:44.65\00:34:46.98 And who were they? Doesn't name them. 00:34:47.02\00:34:49.62 There are some people who are believers in God, faithful, 00:34:49.65\00:34:54.36 buried somewhere in the area around Jerusalem and probably 00:34:54.39\00:34:58.73 not John the Baptist because I think he was buried down by the 00:34:58.76\00:35:01.06 Jordan somewhere. 00:35:01.10\00:35:03.00 It--you know, it could have been people like Isaiah. 00:35:03.03\00:35:05.60 We don't know. It doesn't say their names. 00:35:05.63\00:35:07.64 But how many, we don't know. 00:35:07.67\00:35:10.87 But there is a first fruits that--I think you've got a verse 00:35:10.91\00:35:13.34 in Ephesians talks-- 00:35:13.38\00:35:14.84 Jean: Yeah, there is. 00:35:14.88\00:35:16.18 Ephesians chapter 4, verse 8 actually talks about a group 00:35:16.21\00:35:17.71 that ascended with Jesus, and here you have Paul quoting 00:35:17.75\00:35:21.28 the Old Testament. 00:35:21.32\00:35:22.78 He says, "For when he ascended on high, he led captivity 00:35:22.82\00:35:25.09 captive, and gave gifts unto men." 00:35:25.12\00:35:28.49 And he's actually quoting here from Psalm 68, but it's 00:35:28.52\00:35:32.33 referring to those who are held captive by death 00:35:32.36\00:35:34.63 or by the grave. 00:35:34.66\00:35:36.03 They were resurrected and they ascended with Jesus when he 00:35:36.06\00:35:38.60 ascended to heaven. 00:35:38.63\00:35:40.24 Doug: Yeah. 00:35:40.27\00:35:41.50 So hope that helps a little bit, Abigail, and--yes, we do have a 00:35:41.54\00:35:45.17 study guide that talks about the dead and it's--and the 00:35:45.21\00:35:48.38 resurrection that says "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:35:48.41\00:35:51.15 And if you're interested, we can send you a free copy of that. 00:35:51.18\00:35:53.68 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747 and, again, 00:35:53.72\00:35:57.22 just ask for the study guide. 00:35:57.25\00:35:58.69 It's called "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:35:58.72\00:36:00.79 Next caller that we have is Inga listening in Canada. 00:36:00.82\00:36:03.09 Inga, welcome to the program. 00:36:03.12\00:36:05.29 Inga: Hello, pastor. 00:36:05.33\00:36:06.90 Doug: Hi. 00:36:06.93\00:36:08.56 Inga: Hi. 00:36:08.60\00:36:09.90 My question is, is there going to be technology in heaven? 00:36:09.93\00:36:13.47 Doug: Well, when you say technology--of course, you know, 00:36:13.50\00:36:16.97 God is the author of all true science. 00:36:17.01\00:36:20.01 And so there--will there be scientific wonders? 00:36:20.04\00:36:23.04 I would think of course. 00:36:23.08\00:36:25.88 Will we have smartphones? 00:36:25.91\00:36:28.08 Probably not because I'm thinking that a lot of things 00:36:28.12\00:36:31.49 that the smartphones are doing now we'll be able to do in 00:36:31.52\00:36:33.86 supernatural ways when we get to heaven. 00:36:33.89\00:36:36.76 We won't need a GPS. 00:36:36.79\00:36:38.33 I think the Holy Spirit is going to tell us where we are. 00:36:38.36\00:36:40.06 We'd get lost pretty quick in the universe without 00:36:40.10\00:36:42.40 some kind of divine GPS. 00:36:42.43\00:36:46.10 But we'll be--you know, we'll be probably doing all kinds of 00:36:46.13\00:36:49.47 research into the beauties and wonders of God, and I--it says 00:36:49.50\00:36:52.94 we're going to plant vineyards and eat the fruit 00:36:52.97\00:36:55.11 and build houses. 00:36:55.14\00:36:56.54 So we're doing constructive things. 00:36:56.58\00:36:58.71 Is it plausible that as history goes by we'll be making things? 00:36:58.75\00:37:03.12 Yeah, I believe so. 00:37:03.15\00:37:05.62 Jean: All right. Thank you. 00:37:05.65\00:37:06.99 Next caller that we have is Jerry listening in Oregon. 00:37:07.02\00:37:08.92 Jerry, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:37:08.96\00:37:12.49 Jerry: Good evening, Pastors Ross and Batchelor. 00:37:12.53\00:37:16.20 I'm reading John 5:24, which says, "Verily truly I tell you, 00:37:16.23\00:37:22.54 whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has 00:37:22.57\00:37:27.31 eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from 00:37:27.34\00:37:32.15 death to life." 00:37:32.18\00:37:34.58 But the--when I look at Matthew 12:36 00:37:34.62\00:37:41.19 it says that everyone will 00:37:41.22\00:37:45.13 have to give an account of every idle word. 00:37:45.16\00:37:48.90 And then Revelation 20:12 says that the books are open and the 00:37:48.93\00:37:56.71 dead are judged according to what they have done. 00:37:56.74\00:38:01.11 So my question is, are the believers judged or not judged? 00:38:01.14\00:38:07.58 Doug: All right, let me--there's one more. 00:38:07.62\00:38:09.08 You've read some good verses there. 00:38:09.12\00:38:11.05 You can look--well, I might give you two more. 00:38:11.09\00:38:12.89 Romans 14:10 Paul says in the last part of that, "For we will 00:38:12.92\00:38:16.83 all stand--" He's talking to the church. 00:38:16.86\00:38:19.39 "We will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ." 00:38:19.43\00:38:22.93 And then if you look in 2 Corinthians 5:10 it says, "For 00:38:22.96\00:38:27.14 we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that 00:38:27.17\00:38:30.47 each one may receive the things done in the body." 00:38:30.51\00:38:33.68 So with that in mind, what does it mean there in the Gospel of 00:38:33.71\00:38:36.34 John where it says we've passed from judgment? 00:38:36.38\00:38:39.81 I think that he's basically saying that because of the blood 00:38:39.85\00:38:43.18 of Christ our sins are stricken from the books. 00:38:43.22\00:38:45.99 So when they look in the books it says forgiven, but the books 00:38:46.02\00:38:49.16 are going to be examined and the only way that our deeds are not 00:38:49.19\00:38:53.50 going to rise up against us is if they are confessed, repented 00:38:53.53\00:38:57.23 of, and under the blood of Christ. 00:38:57.27\00:38:59.67 But there's still a judgment that reveals that. 00:38:59.70\00:39:03.34 Now, some judgment takes place before Jesus comes because I 00:39:03.37\00:39:06.88 think it's obvious to everybody that if Christ is distributing 00:39:06.91\00:39:10.55 rewards when he comes some investigation takes place before 00:39:10.58\00:39:14.35 he comes, sometimes referred to as a pre-Advent judgment. 00:39:14.38\00:39:19.02 So the judgment sort of happens in three phases. 00:39:19.05\00:39:21.72 It tells us that we will judge angels, Paul says. 00:39:21.76\00:39:25.36 During the millennium, judgment is given to the saints and 00:39:25.39\00:39:28.60 there's--we're looking at the judgments of God, of why some 00:39:28.63\00:39:31.37 people maybe aren't there and why some people are there. 00:39:31.40\00:39:35.50 I can picture in the resurrection that when Stephen 00:39:35.54\00:39:38.71 sees the apostle Paul in heaven he's going to think the angels 00:39:38.74\00:39:40.98 did something wrong because the last time Stephen sees Paul he 00:39:41.01\00:39:45.18 was killing Christians. 00:39:45.21\00:39:47.15 Now he's in heaven. 00:39:47.18\00:39:48.95 So the--Stephen will get to look at the judgment books. 00:39:48.98\00:39:52.02 And so we're sort of looking at some of the judgments of God. 00:39:52.05\00:39:54.52 And then there's a final Great White Throne Judgment where all 00:39:54.56\00:39:57.13 the dead are resurrected, and that's called an executive 00:39:57.16\00:39:59.76 judgment. 00:39:59.79\00:40:01.20 They're given their penalty, but, again, the books are opened 00:40:01.23\00:40:03.23 and every knee, saved, lost, devils, angels--everybody is 00:40:03.26\00:40:07.40 going to bow before Christ and say he is Lord. 00:40:07.44\00:40:11.51 Jean: You know, we have a couple of study guides 00:40:11.54\00:40:12.87 that talk about the judgment. 00:40:12.91\00:40:14.21 People want to learn more about that, if you call and ask for 00:40:14.24\00:40:17.65 "The Final Judgment." 00:40:17.68\00:40:19.25 It's one of the Amazing Facts study guides. 00:40:19.28\00:40:20.68 We'll be happy to send that to you. 00:40:20.72\00:40:22.12 You can also ask for the one called "Right on Time." 00:40:22.15\00:40:24.65 That is sort of part one and part two about the judgment. 00:40:24.69\00:40:27.92 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747, and you can ask 00:40:27.96\00:40:32.43 for the study guide called "Right on Time" 00:40:32.46\00:40:34.30 and "The Final Judgment." 00:40:34.36\00:40:36.26 It'll tell you all about what's happening in this heavenly 00:40:36.30\00:40:38.10 courtroom that's described in the Bible. 00:40:38.13\00:40:40.47 So 800-835-6747. 00:40:40.50\00:40:44.01 Next caller that we have is Aaron listening in New York. 00:40:44.04\00:40:46.91 Aaron, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:40:46.94\00:40:50.35 Aaron: Good evening, pastors. Doug: Evening. 00:40:50.38\00:40:53.18 Aaron: If a stranger insults you by calling you a derogatory 00:40:53.21\00:40:56.05 word for no apparent reason and immediately leaves you so that 00:40:56.08\00:41:00.36 you cannot ask them what happened, is it okay to do 00:41:00.39\00:41:03.99 nothing about the insult and act like it never happened or should 00:41:04.03\00:41:09.30 you give a prayer for forgiveness for that stranger? 00:41:09.33\00:41:13.74 Doug: Well, Jesus said, "When people say all manner of evil 00:41:13.77\00:41:18.17 against you falsely for my name's sake, rejoice." 00:41:18.21\00:41:22.01 And the Bible then tells us to turn the other cheek and pray 00:41:22.04\00:41:24.98 for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. 00:41:25.01\00:41:28.22 So the answer on both counts according to Jesus's teaching 00:41:28.25\00:41:30.79 is as far as possible try and turn the other cheek. 00:41:30.82\00:41:35.16 Now, if I'm standing on the corner and some lunatic comes up 00:41:35.19\00:41:38.03 and starts, you know, taking swings at me, I'll probably 00:41:38.06\00:41:40.03 defend myself. 00:41:40.06\00:41:41.70 But, you know, if someone insults you, you just turn the 00:41:41.73\00:41:44.80 other cheek. 00:41:44.83\00:41:46.33 I get criticism all the time. 00:41:46.37\00:41:49.07 Some of it's deserved, some of it's just being mean and, you 00:41:49.10\00:41:52.34 know, I don't respond or retaliate because, you know, 00:41:52.37\00:41:55.48 that's what Jesus did and that's what I think he wants us to do. 00:41:55.51\00:41:58.88 When they--you look at the trial of Christ, they said all kinds 00:41:58.91\00:42:01.55 of terrible things to him and about him and he really didn't 00:42:01.58\00:42:04.72 defend himself and Pilate was amazed. 00:42:04.75\00:42:08.32 So--and then, of course, pray for. 00:42:08.36\00:42:10.79 Jesus prayed for those crucifying him. 00:42:10.83\00:42:12.53 So should we pray for people that spitefully use us 00:42:12.56\00:42:15.90 and persecute us? 00:42:15.93\00:42:17.23 Yes. Is it hard? 00:42:17.27\00:42:18.57 Yes. 00:42:18.60\00:42:19.90 But that's where we're developing Christian virtues. 00:42:19.93\00:42:22.44 Thanks, Aaron. I appreciate that. 00:42:22.47\00:42:24.64 Jean: Next caller that we have is Carlos listening 00:42:24.67\00:42:26.11 in Florida. 00:42:26.14\00:42:27.44 Carlos, welcome to the program. 00:42:27.48\00:42:29.78 Carlos: Good evening, pastors. Doug: Hi. 00:42:29.81\00:42:32.28 Carlos: Hebrews 4, verse 4 says, "For he spake in a certain 00:42:32.31\00:42:38.15 place of the seventh day on this wise," 00:42:38.19\00:42:41.79 comma--what certain place? 00:42:41.82\00:42:47.20 And I'm not understanding this term here where--do you have a 00:42:47.23\00:42:51.83 king--are you guys reading from King James? 00:42:51.87\00:42:54.37 Doug: Yeah, well, I've got the New King James here. 00:42:54.40\00:42:56.20 It's almost identical. 00:42:56.24\00:42:58.47 Carlos: So it says, "For he spake in a certain place of 00:42:58.51\00:43:01.84 the seventh day on this wise." 00:43:01.88\00:43:04.51 Doug: On this wise means in this way. 00:43:04.55\00:43:07.08 Yeah. 00:43:07.12\00:43:08.68 And he's quoting from the Old Testament in Exodus 20 where it 00:43:08.72\00:43:11.85 says God rested the seventh day, and he may also be quoting from 00:43:11.89\00:43:14.39 Genesis 2:2 because it says it in both places. 00:43:14.42\00:43:18.59 Carlos: So the place he's speaking from 00:43:18.63\00:43:20.66 is the seventh day? 00:43:20.70\00:43:22.86 Doug: Well, no. 00:43:22.90\00:43:24.20 It means that the--that King David, he's quoting about--he's 00:43:24.23\00:43:26.84 talking about King David in chapter 4 of Hebrews, and it 00:43:26.87\00:43:30.11 says for he spoke in a certain place--actually he's talking 00:43:30.14\00:43:32.71 about--for God spoke in a certain place of the seventh day 00:43:32.74\00:43:37.41 and God rested from His work, and he's talking about where in 00:43:37.45\00:43:40.75 Genesis 2:2 it says that God rested from His work 00:43:40.78\00:43:45.19 in creating the world. 00:43:45.22\00:43:47.49 Carlos: What is a certain place? 00:43:47.52\00:43:49.36 Doug: What is a certain place? 00:43:49.39\00:43:51.06 It means in the--a place in the Scripture, and the place 00:43:51.09\00:43:53.13 is--yeah, he's talking about--he's spoken--he's quoting 00:43:53.16\00:43:56.83 various verses. 00:43:56.87\00:43:58.33 Like if you look in verse 3 it says, "So I swore in my wrath 00:43:58.37\00:44:01.20 they will not enter my rest." 00:44:01.24\00:44:02.94 Here he's quoting from Psalm 95. 00:44:02.97\00:44:06.47 So Hebrews, he's going through different places 00:44:06.51\00:44:09.54 in the Old Testament. 00:44:09.58\00:44:11.18 I think there are more quotes--more Old Testament 00:44:11.21\00:44:13.28 quotes in Hebrews than any other New Testament book. 00:44:13.31\00:44:16.35 I think Matthew and Romans might be next. 00:44:16.38\00:44:18.35 Hey. Thank you, Carlos. 00:44:18.39\00:44:19.95 I hope that helps a little bit. 00:44:19.99\00:44:21.59 Jean: Next caller that we have is Troy listening 00:44:21.62\00:44:22.99 in Massachusetts. 00:44:23.02\00:44:24.33 Troy, welcome to the program. 00:44:24.36\00:44:26.09 Troy: Good evening, pastors. 00:44:26.13\00:44:27.50 I just want to thank you guys for your faithfulness, 00:44:27.50\00:44:29.46 and Amazing Facts have had a huge impact on my family. 00:44:29.50\00:44:31.97 So I just want to thank you guys. 00:44:32.00\00:44:34.44 My question now, it's about Daniel and Ezra. 00:44:34.47\00:44:39.24 We know the 70-week prophecy with Ezra chapter 7 is where it 00:44:39.27\00:44:44.45 starts the 70-week prophecy. 00:44:44.48\00:44:46.15 And I'm reading Ezra now in Ezra chapter 4 with the resistance of 00:44:46.18\00:44:50.72 building the temple and it says Artaxerxes had sent a letter to 00:44:50.75\00:44:59.13 cease the work that's been going on in Jerusalem, and it says 00:44:59.16\00:45:03.16 until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia. 00:45:03.20\00:45:06.30 It's Ezra chapter 4 and verse 24. 00:45:06.33\00:45:09.27 My question is, is this the same Artaxerxes that comes forth 00:45:09.30\00:45:13.34 in chapter 7? 00:45:13.38\00:45:14.91 Because in chapter 6 we have the issuing of the decree of Darius 00:45:14.94\00:45:20.28 and in chapter 1 was from Cyrus. 00:45:20.32\00:45:22.95 I'm just kind of confused if it's the same Artaxerxes in 00:45:22.98\00:45:26.45 chapter 4 that's in chapter 7, if that makes any sense. 00:45:26.49\00:45:30.29 Doug: Yeah, I--yeah, good question. 00:45:30.33\00:45:32.53 I think that it is different. 00:45:32.56\00:45:36.00 You know, sometimes they had sons--or rulers. 00:45:36.03\00:45:38.67 There's actually more than one Darius that had the same name. 00:45:38.70\00:45:42.40 There's a Darius during the time of Daniel and then years later 00:45:42.44\00:45:45.47 you get another Darius during the time of Ezra. 00:45:45.51\00:45:48.54 And I could be wrong, Pastor Ross, but I think the one in 00:45:48.58\00:45:51.01 chapter 7 is the Artaxerxes who did the decree that allowed them 00:45:51.05\00:45:54.28 to go home, and the one who put up a blockade that you find in 00:45:54.32\00:45:58.72 chapter 4, I think, it was a different king during a 00:45:58.75\00:46:02.32 different time. 00:46:02.36\00:46:04.29 So I don't know if you know more about that. 00:46:04.33\00:46:08.26 Jean: Yeah, I was just going to mention 00:46:08.30\00:46:09.60 a couple of other--there are three decrees 00:46:09.63\00:46:11.27 that are particularly significant to the Jews that 00:46:11.30\00:46:13.77 allowed them to go back and restore and rebuild Jerusalem; 00:46:13.80\00:46:16.74 and the first decree was by Cyrus, the second was by Darius 00:46:16.77\00:46:22.31 in 519, and then Artaxerxes was in 457 BC. 00:46:22.34\00:46:27.02 So that's the one that's really recorded for us in Ezra; is the 00:46:27.05\00:46:30.82 decree that allowed the Jews to go back not only rebuild the 00:46:30.85\00:46:33.52 temple but actually the wall of the city, and that's the decree 00:46:33.56\00:46:37.43 in 457 BC that starts the 70 weeks or the 490 years. 00:46:37.46\00:46:41.26 So is there another Artaxerxes? 00:46:41.30\00:46:43.37 There could be, but this is the one that the Bible speaks of, 00:46:43.40\00:46:46.74 especially in Ezra, as being the most significant 00:46:46.77\00:46:49.00 in issuing that decree. 00:46:49.04\00:46:50.47 Doug: Yeah. The decree is actually found in chapter 7. 00:46:50.51\00:46:52.81 So I think he's wondering, is the Artaxerxes in chapter 4 00:46:52.84\00:46:56.71 the same one in chapter 7? 00:46:56.75\00:46:58.48 And I'm trying to go back in my Persian history and remember. 00:46:58.51\00:47:01.02 I just remember there were some of these kings that had the same 00:47:01.05\00:47:03.12 name, but I know the Artaxerxes in chapter 7. 00:47:03.15\00:47:06.59 That's the decree of 457. 00:47:06.62\00:47:09.56 So I'm going to have to go look that up again because I'm 00:47:09.59\00:47:11.83 second-guessing what I said. 00:47:11.86\00:47:14.56 That just goes to show you, friends, we don't have all the 00:47:14.56\00:47:16.13 answers, but we'll research that, Troy. 00:47:16.16\00:47:19.07 I want to make sure I'm giving you the right answer. 00:47:19.10\00:47:20.90 Thank you. 00:47:20.94\00:47:22.40 Jean: Thanks. 00:47:22.44\00:47:24.04 Next caller that we have is Nicole listening in Michigan. 00:47:24.07\00:47:25.37 Nicole, welcome to the program. 00:47:25.41\00:47:27.58 Nicole: Hi, how are you? 00:47:27.61\00:47:29.18 Doug: Doing good. Thank you for calling. 00:47:29.21\00:47:31.88 Nicole: Good. 00:47:31.91\00:47:33.25 I have a question about Numbers chapter 28, verse 7. 00:47:33.28\00:47:35.78 It says that strong drink was to be offered in the sanctuary. 00:47:35.82\00:47:41.32 What is that strong drink? 00:47:41.36\00:47:43.66 Because I'm under the impression that the people of God were not 00:47:43.69\00:47:46.49 supposed to have anything to do with alcoholic beverages and 00:47:46.53\00:47:49.56 definitely not in the sanctuary. 00:47:49.60\00:47:51.80 So what is this strong drink there? 00:47:51.83\00:47:54.54 Doug: Yeah. That's, I think, often misunderstood. 00:47:54.57\00:47:57.91 The word strong there, it could in some places mean strong 00:47:57.94\00:48:02.11 as in alcohol. 00:48:02.14\00:48:04.31 They had another word for strong, and it's the word 00:48:04.35\00:48:06.75 like concentrated. 00:48:06.78\00:48:08.68 Now, you've probably had orange juice before that was made 00:48:08.72\00:48:11.52 from concentrate. 00:48:11.55\00:48:14.29 I'm guessing you've tasted what orange juice from concentrate 00:48:14.32\00:48:18.66 tastes like before you add the water, and you could say 00:48:18.69\00:48:21.83 that's really strong. 00:48:21.86\00:48:23.90 The Jews used to actually dehydrate their grape juice so 00:48:23.93\00:48:28.70 they could transport it and--you know, liquids are very heavy. 00:48:28.74\00:48:31.77 They would dehydrate it, make it into a syrup, and then they'd 00:48:31.81\00:48:35.08 reconstitute it. 00:48:35.11\00:48:36.64 That sometimes was called strong drink. 00:48:36.68\00:48:38.45 The word strong there meaning intense or concentrated. 00:48:38.48\00:48:42.52 It might not be alcoholic at all and it, matter of fact, could be 00:48:42.55\00:48:46.49 very sweet, almost a syrup. 00:48:46.52\00:48:48.19 But then you'd add water again and it was just right. 00:48:48.22\00:48:51.29 This may very well be what they're talking about because I 00:48:51.33\00:48:53.43 don't think God approved them using alcohol. 00:48:53.46\00:48:57.73 The two sons of Aaron were burnt to death. 00:48:57.77\00:49:01.54 God rained fire down on heaven from them for drinking alcohol 00:49:01.57\00:49:05.17 before they went to the sanctuary. 00:49:05.21\00:49:06.91 It would seem strange that He would then endorse people 00:49:06.94\00:49:09.64 bringing alcohol into the sanctuary. 00:49:09.68\00:49:12.11 Jean: And, of course, we do have Leviticus. 00:49:12.15\00:49:13.52 Actually, Leviticus chapter 10, verse 9 says, "Do not drink wine 00:49:13.55\00:49:16.12 or intoxicating drink when you or your sons who are with you go 00:49:16.15\00:49:19.62 into the tabernacle of meeting." 00:49:19.65\00:49:21.99 So part of the sacrifice that was given would also be used to 00:49:22.02\00:49:25.09 help sustain the priesthood. 00:49:25.13\00:49:27.10 So the priests were clearly told that they were not to be 00:49:27.13\00:49:29.36 drinking alcohol when they were involved in the sacrifice. 00:49:29.40\00:49:32.83 So it was a concentrated sort of grape juice that could be 00:49:32.87\00:49:37.91 diluted with water. 00:49:37.94\00:49:39.54 Doug: Yeah. 00:49:39.57\00:49:40.88 And if you--I've got a book called "Alcohol and the 00:49:40.91\00:49:42.61 Christian." 00:49:42.64\00:49:44.11 I think it references--I wrote it, you know, 15 years ago so I 00:49:44.15\00:49:45.88 don't even remember everything that's in it, but I think it 00:49:45.91\00:49:47.82 references the strong drink that you find in this passage. 00:49:47.85\00:49:52.45 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:49:52.49\00:49:55.86 You can ask for the book called "Alcohol and the Christian." 00:49:55.89\00:49:57.99 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:49:58.03\00:50:00.63 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone, ask for "Bible 00:50:00.66\00:50:04.67 Answers Live," and then ask for the book "The Alcohol--or 00:50:04.70\00:50:07.04 Alcohol and the Christian." 00:50:07.07\00:50:09.17 Next caller that we have is Mike listening in Missouri. 00:50:09.20\00:50:11.37 Mike, welcome to the program. 00:50:11.41\00:50:13.74 Mike: Well, here let me get to it real quick. 00:50:13.78\00:50:15.81 My question concerns Acts chapter 12, verse 4 of the King 00:50:15.84\00:50:20.52 James Version. 00:50:20.55\00:50:22.65 And according to the Julian concordance the word for 00:50:22.68\00:50:26.49 Passover in that particular passage is Easter. 00:50:26.52\00:50:30.46 Now, this question is based on hearsay. 00:50:30.49\00:50:33.63 I've never been able to find this in writing, but this person 00:50:33.66\00:50:37.50 told me that east--I'm going to state it in the question. 00:50:37.53\00:50:45.17 Is Easter the correct name for Passover when calculated 00:50:45.21\00:50:48.48 by a Julian calendar? 00:50:48.51\00:50:52.91 Doug: No. 00:50:52.95\00:50:54.35 Well, the word Easter is not the word in the original when 00:50:54.38\00:50:58.75 they're translating it into English because the time of the 00:50:58.79\00:51:05.06 Passover is the same time of year as the Catholics that 00:51:05.09\00:51:09.70 celebrated and even the Orthodox Church, or whether you call the 00:51:09.73\00:51:12.67 Church of England, the same time they celebrated Easter. 00:51:12.70\00:51:17.44 Not always the same day because they would pick it differently. 00:51:17.47\00:51:19.81 The Jews used more of a lunar cycle that--it's basically just 00:51:19.84\00:51:23.98 saying that Herod was going to execute Peter 00:51:24.01\00:51:26.82 during the Passover or after Passover was over. 00:51:26.85\00:51:30.09 I think it's letting us know that's the same time 00:51:30.12\00:51:31.95 of year they were going to--they did execute Jesus. 00:51:31.99\00:51:34.66 So they use the word Easter there in the King James, 00:51:34.69\00:51:37.89 but you'll find in most other versions 00:51:37.93\00:51:39.36 they translate that Passover. 00:51:39.39\00:51:41.33 What the exact date was, I think, it would be according to 00:51:41.36\00:51:43.37 the Jewish calendar, not the Roman calendar 00:51:43.40\00:51:46.70 because this is written by a Jew. 00:51:46.74\00:51:48.67 So it's a lunar calendar, the Jewish civil calendar. 00:51:48.70\00:51:51.81 Mike: Okay. 00:51:51.84\00:51:53.48 Doug: He's just saying that--Herod didn't execute him 00:51:53.51\00:51:55.48 right away because they're waiting for the Passover 00:51:55.51\00:51:57.51 to be over. 00:51:57.55\00:51:58.85 Jean: And if you look at the same verse in the New King 00:51:58.88\00:52:00.98 James, which is very close to the King James, it does use the 00:52:01.02\00:52:03.05 word Passover in place of Easter. 00:52:03.08\00:52:05.65 So it sort of corrects that, a better word in that case. 00:52:05.69\00:52:10.63 All right, thank you. 00:52:10.66\00:52:12.13 Next caller that we have is Linda listening in California. 00:52:12.16\00:52:13.86 Linda, welcome to the program. 00:52:13.90\00:52:16.40 Linda: Thank you. 00:52:16.43\00:52:18.00 I'm confused about which are the people who will fight with the 00:52:18.03\00:52:23.20 devil against the New Jerusalem. 00:52:23.24\00:52:27.54 Doug: Who will be fighting against the devil? 00:52:27.58\00:52:31.15 Linda: No, with the devil. 00:52:31.18\00:52:32.71 Doug: Who's fighting with the devil? 00:52:32.75\00:52:34.25 Well, it tells us Gog and Magog. 00:52:34.28\00:52:35.75 The devil rallies Gog and Magog, and you find that in Exodus 00:52:35.78\00:52:37.89 chapter 20 and Exodus 20 is sort of quoting 00:52:37.92\00:52:41.02 from Ezekiel 37 and 38. 00:52:41.06\00:52:44.23 Gog and Magog--sorry. 00:52:44.26\00:52:45.69 Yeah, Revelation. 00:52:45.73\00:52:47.60 Thank you very much. 00:52:47.60\00:52:49.10 Revelation chapter 20. 00:52:49.13\00:52:50.67 Linda: Where did the people come from because before the 00:52:50.70\00:52:52.93 second coming the earth is-- 00:52:52.97\00:52:55.77 Doug: I'm getting to that. 00:52:55.80\00:52:57.11 Linda: Okay, got you. 00:52:57.14\00:52:58.54 Doug: Yeah, they're resurrected. 00:52:58.57\00:53:00.81 It says the rest of the dead--and now we're in 00:53:00.84\00:53:02.74 Revelation chapter 20. 00:53:02.78\00:53:04.55 The rest of the dead liveth not again until the thousand years 00:53:04.58\00:53:07.55 are finished. 00:53:07.58\00:53:08.88 So the dead in Christ rise first. 00:53:08.92\00:53:10.39 So all the righteous are resurrected. 00:53:10.42\00:53:12.25 There's only one group left who are the rest of the dead. 00:53:12.29\00:53:14.82 If all the righteous are resurrected in the first 00:53:14.86\00:53:16.39 resurrection, it says the dead in Christ rise first in 00:53:16.42\00:53:19.66 1 Thessalonians, who would the rest of the dead be, Linda? 00:53:19.69\00:53:24.07 Linda: The lost. 00:53:24.10\00:53:25.70 Doug: That's right. It's the wicked. 00:53:25.73\00:53:26.97 It calls them Gog and Magog in Revelation because Revelation 00:53:27.00\00:53:30.34 uses symbolic names for almost everybody. 00:53:30.37\00:53:33.64 It uses Balaam and Napoleon and the lamb and the lion and 00:53:33.68\00:53:38.48 Jezebel, and it uses Gog and Magog because in the Old 00:53:38.51\00:53:41.72 Testament those were enemies of God's people from antiquity. 00:53:41.75\00:53:46.65 Gog and then you've got Magog means from the matrix 00:53:46.69\00:53:50.03 of Gog or the children of Gog. 00:53:50.06\00:53:52.56 So it's like Babylon and her daughters. 00:53:52.59\00:53:54.63 Gog and Magog, the wicked and the children of the wicked 00:53:54.66\00:53:57.30 of--you've got the good. 00:53:57.33\00:53:59.83 It says the woman and the seed of the woman. 00:53:59.87\00:54:01.70 So you got the good side and the children of the woman. 00:54:01.74\00:54:04.21 You got the bad side and the children of the wicked, and--so 00:54:04.24\00:54:08.68 it's in that--all who have ever lived from every generation, 00:54:08.71\00:54:12.51 they are coming against the people of God and the devil 00:54:12.55\00:54:14.82 is rallying them to assault the city of God. 00:54:14.85\00:54:18.12 And I think you also find that in the Book of Zechariah chapter 00:54:18.15\00:54:20.46 14, and God delivers His people at the crucial moment. 00:54:20.49\00:54:24.99 Now, I hope that helps a little bit, Linda. 00:54:25.03\00:54:27.13 We thank you, friends. 00:54:27.20\00:54:28.80 Just in case you did not know this, the--Amazing Facts 00:54:28.83\00:54:32.80 we're on many different venues right now. 00:54:32.83\00:54:35.30 We broadcast on TV, on radio, through satellite, 00:54:35.34\00:54:39.47 and land-based TV and radio stations. 00:54:39.51\00:54:42.18 The clocks aren't all the same on these different networks. 00:54:42.21\00:54:45.38 And because of the timing difference between satellite 00:54:45.41\00:54:48.38 and land-based stations, we say farewell first 00:54:48.42\00:54:52.05 to our satellite listeners. 00:54:52.09\00:54:53.92 Those listening on satellite radio, we love you. 00:54:53.96\00:54:56.39 Nothing personal, but we're going to sign off with you. 00:54:56.42\00:54:58.79 But the rest of you, don't go away because then we come back 00:54:58.83\00:55:01.90 and we do our best to do rapid fire Bible questions that you 00:55:01.93\00:55:05.73 have emailed in. 00:55:05.77\00:55:07.40 So stay tuned for that. For the rest, God bless. 00:55:07.44\00:55:09.94 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:13.38\00:55:15.94 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:15.98\00:55:19.65 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:19.68\00:55:23.45 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:23.49\00:55:27.56 Jean: Hello, friends. 00:55:29.32\00:55:30.63 Welcome back to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:30.66\00:55:32.09 And, again, as Pastor Doug mentioned just on the other 00:55:32.13\00:55:33.43 side of the break, we're going to take some 00:55:33.46\00:55:34.73 of your email questions. 00:55:34.76\00:55:36.46 So if you'd like to send us an email question, our email 00:55:36.50\00:55:38.80 address is BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:38.83\00:55:44.11 And we'll try to answer as many of these questions as we can in 00:55:44.14\00:55:47.24 the time allotted, about 2 1/2 minutes. 00:55:47.28\00:55:49.84 Pastor Doug, first question we have, "If Satan was cast to the 00:55:49.88\00:55:53.01 earth, where did he go during the flood?" 00:55:53.05\00:55:56.08 Doug: Yeah, I think people sometimes wonder 00:55:56.12\00:55:58.05 if the whole world was flooded and if the devil was not 00:55:58.09\00:56:00.16 in the ark, then--you know, they're 00:56:00.19\00:56:02.99 looking at the devil as though he's got a physical body, but 00:56:03.02\00:56:07.13 the Bible says we do not wrestle--Ephesians chapter 6, 00:56:07.13\00:56:10.20 we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. 00:56:10.23\00:56:12.67 I mean, if we did, I'd love to punch the devil in the nose. 00:56:12.70\00:56:15.70 Of course, I'm probably not stronger than him physically. 00:56:15.74\00:56:17.84 But he's a spirit and he can sometimes manifest himself in 00:56:17.87\00:56:22.61 physical ways, but ultimately he's a spirit. 00:56:22.64\00:56:25.15 So I don't think he was worried about drowning per se. 00:56:25.18\00:56:29.25 He didn't need scuba gear or anything, but he probably saw 00:56:29.28\00:56:32.62 the catastrophe of the elements and feared for his own existence 00:56:32.65\00:56:37.16 when he saw what was happening to humanity. 00:56:37.19\00:56:39.79 He saw the terrible judgment that came on mankind. 00:56:39.83\00:56:41.80 He probably feared; but no, he didn't need 00:56:41.83\00:56:43.90 to worry about drowning. 00:56:43.93\00:56:46.17 Jean: Okay. 00:56:46.20\00:56:47.64 We have Rachel asking, will the 144,000 know that they are part 00:56:47.67\00:56:50.27 of this group during the time that they're on the earth? 00:56:50.31\00:56:54.08 Will it not be made known to them until 00:56:54.11\00:56:56.21 Jesus's second coming? 00:56:56.24\00:56:58.98 Doug: Well, it's a good question, and I'm not sure 00:56:59.01\00:57:00.58 I know the answer. 00:57:00.62\00:57:02.68 The 12 apostles knew that they were the 12 that had 00:57:02.72\00:57:07.86 been specifically chosen. 00:57:07.89\00:57:09.96 Will the 144,000 know that they're, you know, 142,003? 00:57:09.99\00:57:16.36 No, not necessarily. 00:57:16.40\00:57:18.37 I think that there's going to be a special Spirit-filled group of 00:57:18.40\00:57:22.37 apostles you might see in the last days doing a great work, 00:57:22.40\00:57:25.87 but they may not know that they're one of them. 00:57:25.91\00:57:28.98 Jean: All right. 00:57:29.01\00:57:30.35 Next question that we have, "Can fallen angels still repent and 00:57:30.38\00:57:32.38 be saved, or is the plan of salvation 00:57:32.41\00:57:34.25 only for human beings?" 00:57:34.28\00:57:36.22 Doug: Well, probation is open for humans now. 00:57:36.25\00:57:38.55 There was probably a time when angels could have repented. 00:57:38.59\00:57:41.76 God gave them a period of grace, and we don't know it. 00:57:41.79\00:57:43.96 It may have been thousands of years while this debate 00:57:43.99\00:57:45.93 went on in heaven. 00:57:45.96\00:57:47.23 But ultimately their probation closed and the angels know that 00:57:47.30\00:57:51.70 they are now in everlasting chains of darkness. 00:57:51.73\00:57:54.64 And the demons often said to Jesus, "We know who you are. 00:57:54.67\00:57:57.57 Have you come to torment us before the time?" 00:57:57.61\00:57:59.67 Meaning judge us. 00:57:59.71\00:58:01.38 So they know there--the devil knows he has a short time. 00:58:01.41\00:58:03.68 There's no turning back. 00:58:03.71\00:58:05.25 The fallen angels have no redeemable qualities left. 00:58:05.28\00:58:08.55 Friends, great questions. 00:58:08.58\00:58:09.95 And we hope we can have more great questions next week. 00:58:09.98\00:58:12.32 Give us a call. 00:58:12.35\00:58:13.72 In the meantime, check out amazingfacts.org 00:58:13.76\00:58:16.89 and keep us on the air. 00:58:16.93\00:58:18.53 God bless. 00:58:18.56\00:58:20.16 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate 00:58:21.33\00:58:24.37 answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:24.40\00:58:26.60
