¤¤¤ 00:00:01.10\00:00:02.96 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.47 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted; 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.70 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.41 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.44\00:00:16.34 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.38\00:00:19.68 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate 00:00:19.71\00:00:23.85 and practical answer to all your Bible questions. 00:00:23.89\00:00:28.36 This broadcast is a previously-recorded episode. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.19 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.80 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.83\00:00:38.37 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.40\00:00:43.71 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:43.74\00:00:47.28 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.31\00:00:50.01 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:50.05\00:00:51.38 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.41\00:00:53.88 English dye casters Leslie Smith 00:00:53.92\00:00:56.95 and Rodney Smith founded Lesney Products in 1947. 00:00:56.99\00:01:01.09 And along with their partner, Jack Odell, 00:01:01.12\00:01:03.19 they began making small toys. 00:01:03.22\00:01:05.66 In 1952, Odell was challenged by a rule at his daughter's school. 00:01:05.69\00:01:11.13 The rule permitted students to only bring toys to school 00:01:11.17\00:01:14.57 that were small enough to fit inside a matchbox. 00:01:14.60\00:01:18.67 So, he scaled down Lindsey's little steam roller package 00:01:18.71\00:01:22.04 and put it in a matchbox and sent his daughter off to school. 00:01:22.08\00:01:25.78 The Matchbox car was born. 00:01:25.81\00:01:28.65 Since 1953, Matchbox cars have sold around the world. 00:01:28.68\00:01:33.19 The first little car sold for 39 to 48 cents and came 00:01:33.22\00:01:37.49 in a small matchbox-like container. 00:01:37.53\00:01:40.40 The toys are made by measuring real, full size cars or trucks 00:01:40.43\00:01:44.73 with a laser and then reducing the dimensions 00:01:44.77\00:01:47.47 to be about 1/64th the size of the original model. 00:01:47.50\00:01:51.21 To date, there have been more than 12,000 individual Matchbox 00:01:51.24\00:01:55.91 models with a total production of over three billion miniature 00:01:55.94\00:02:00.52 toy cars and trucks. 00:02:00.55\00:02:03.15 You know, the Bible speaks of three structures 00:02:03.18\00:02:05.49 that were made as miniatures of heavenly copies. 00:02:05.52\00:02:09.32 Jean Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:02:09.36\00:02:11.19 When you think about the Matchbox car, I think just about 00:02:11.23\00:02:13.76 every little boy, at some point in time, has seen one or played 00:02:13.80\00:02:16.60 one or I know [inaudible] 00:02:16.63\00:02:18.00 Doug: You've got a few boys. Did they have? 00:02:18.03\00:02:19.93 Jean: They sure did. 00:02:19.97\00:02:21.30 Doug: We've still got a bucket, I think, 00:02:21.34\00:02:22.87 of Matchbox cars in the attic. 00:02:22.90\00:02:24.51 Jean: And I think what's appealing is that they look 00:02:24.54\00:02:26.78 just like the real thing, but, of course, miniature. 00:02:26.81\00:02:29.21 Doug: And then shrunk. Jean: That's right. 00:02:29.24\00:02:30.98 That's kind of neat to look at it and say, 00:02:31.01\00:02:32.38 "Wow, this is what the real thing looks like." 00:02:32.41\00:02:33.65 Well, you know, the Bible talks about a miniature structure that 00:02:33.68\00:02:36.89 was recreated here on the earth. 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.95 Doug: That's right. 00:02:38.99\00:02:40.32 The Bible tells us that when Moses went up Mount Sinai, 00:02:40.36\00:02:43.09 not only did he get the Ten Commandments, 00:02:43.12\00:02:45.16 but he received a lot of the laws, both civil, health, 00:02:45.19\00:02:48.90 and religious while he was on the mountains, 00:02:48.93\00:02:51.37 and God gave him plans, specific plans. 00:02:51.40\00:02:55.00 The same way Noah was given specific plans for the ark, 00:02:55.04\00:02:58.07 God gave Moses specific plans to build a tabernacle, 00:02:58.11\00:03:02.38 a sanctuary that was a miniature model of a heavenly sanctuary 00:03:02.41\00:03:08.58 that you read about several places in the Bible. 00:03:08.62\00:03:11.55 And one example would be-- 00:03:11.59\00:03:13.62 you can look in Hebrews chapter 8, verse 4. 00:03:13.66\00:03:15.99 It says, "For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, 00:03:16.02\00:03:20.70 since there are priests who offer gifts according to the 00:03:20.73\00:03:22.60 law, who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things. 00:03:22.63\00:03:26.63 As Moses was divinely instructed 00:03:26.67\00:03:29.47 when he was about to make the tabernacle." 00:03:29.50\00:03:31.51 That's the sanctuary. 00:03:31.54\00:03:32.91 "For He said, 'See that you make all things according 00:03:32.94\00:03:35.14 to the pattern shown you on the mountain.'" 00:03:35.18\00:03:37.78 Like, we know the Ark of the Covenant 00:03:37.81\00:03:41.28 was the golden box of the Ten Commandments. 00:03:41.32\00:03:43.52 On the top, there were golden angels. 00:03:43.55\00:03:45.92 Well, in heaven, God doesn't sit enthroned between 00:03:45.95\00:03:48.66 two golden statues of angels. 00:03:48.69\00:03:50.79 He sits between living angels. 00:03:50.83\00:03:53.19 Just like a little Matchbox car--well, the doors don't open. 00:03:53.23\00:03:55.96 I mean, it's a little model, but the very real temple in heaven, 00:03:56.00\00:04:00.14 instead of having a wallpaper with angels like the earthly 00:04:00.17\00:04:03.91 sanctuary, it's probably a living wall of angels that 00:04:03.94\00:04:06.64 surrounds the Lord. 00:04:06.68\00:04:08.54 And I said three, because there are three times it was built. 00:04:08.58\00:04:11.51 You've got the mobile tabernacle in the wilderness. 00:04:11.55\00:04:13.82 Then Solomon ultimately built, at David's instruction, 00:04:13.85\00:04:18.29 and David provided for it, one of the wonders of the world, 00:04:18.32\00:04:21.86 the temple of Solomon. 00:04:21.89\00:04:24.06 And that was then destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. 00:04:24.09\00:04:26.63 And after the Babylonian captivity, it was rebuilt during 00:04:26.66\00:04:30.30 the times of Ezra and Nehemiah, later refurbished by 00:04:30.33\00:04:33.84 Herod the Great, but it was basically the same temple. 00:04:33.87\00:04:36.77 And so these are all miniatures of the heavenly model, 00:04:36.81\00:04:40.04 and that temple teaches us, Pastor Ross, 00:04:40.08\00:04:43.58 something about how God saves people. 00:04:43.61\00:04:45.18 Jean: That's right, the Bible says, "Thy way, O Lord, 00:04:45.21\00:04:46.88 is in the sanctuary." 00:04:46.92\00:04:48.45 So, looking at the services of the sanctuary, of course, you've 00:04:48.48\00:04:51.69 got the sacrifices that took place in the sanctuary that the 00:04:51.72\00:04:53.62 priesthood and the work that the priests did, and all of 00:04:53.66\00:04:55.66 the articles of furniture, they all teach a lesson that points 00:04:55.69\00:04:58.76 us to the plan of redemption in Jesus our sacrifice 00:04:58.79\00:05:02.43 and also great High Priest. 00:05:02.46\00:05:04.17 And also, living the Christian life, 00:05:04.20\00:05:05.63 that's also present in the sanctuary. 00:05:05.67\00:05:07.30 So, we do have a study guide that talks about 00:05:07.34\00:05:10.17 the sanctuary that's called "God Drew the Plans," 00:05:10.21\00:05:12.37 and this is our free gift. 00:05:12.41\00:05:13.71 We're going to send it out to anyone who calls and asks. 00:05:13.74\00:05:16.11 The number for that is 800-836-6747. 00:05:16.14\00:05:19.28 You can ask for Offer #129 or ask for it by name. 00:05:19.31\00:05:22.95 It's called "God Drew the Plans." 00:05:22.98\00:05:24.69 You can also dial #250 on your phone and say, 00:05:24.72\00:05:27.79 "Bible Answers Live," and then ask for "God Drew the Plans." 00:05:27.82\00:05:31.79 You can also receive the free gift that way. 00:05:31.83\00:05:33.93 I would also like to greet those who are listening on some radio 00:05:33.96\00:05:37.43 stations that we have across the country. 00:05:37.47\00:05:39.13 We want to greet those tuning in on KWRG in Arizona. 00:05:39.17\00:05:43.17 Those who are listening there, welcome. 00:05:43.20\00:05:45.01 And also KPGC in Arkansas. 00:05:45.04\00:05:48.34 So, if you have a Bible question, and you're listening 00:05:48.38\00:05:50.55 through these two, one of these two radio stations, 00:05:50.58\00:05:52.85 we'd love to hear from you tonight. 00:05:52.88\00:05:54.72 And for anyone who has a Bible question, 00:05:54.75\00:05:57.02 the number to call is 800-463-7297. 00:05:57.05\00:06:01.06 That's 800-God-Says, 800-463-7297, 00:06:01.09\00:06:06.23 and that'll bring you here into our program. 00:06:06.26\00:06:09.16 We also want to greet those who are watching on YouTube 00:06:09.20\00:06:11.73 and Facebook, also on AFTV, and some other networks 00:06:11.77\00:06:15.20 that are going to be rebroadcasting this program. 00:06:15.24\00:06:17.34 We thank you for being a part of our Bible study. 00:06:17.37\00:06:20.24 Well, Pastor Doug, before we go to the phone lines-- 00:06:20.28\00:06:22.01 I know there's quite a few callers waiting-- 00:06:22.04\00:06:23.45 let's start with prayer. 00:06:23.48\00:06:25.61 Dear Father, we thank you once again that 00:06:25.65\00:06:27.08 we do have this time to open up your Word and study. 00:06:27.12\00:06:29.45 The Bible is the most important book, 00:06:29.48\00:06:31.45 a book that you have given us to show us the way of truth. 00:06:31.49\00:06:34.39 The Bible says that "Thy Word is a lamp to our feet." 00:06:34.42\00:06:37.43 So, guide us, Lord, as we study together. 00:06:37.46\00:06:38.93 In Jesus's name, amen. 00:06:38.96\00:06:41.30 Doug: Amen. 00:06:41.33\00:06:42.63 Jean: Well, our first caller this evening is Brittany, and 00:06:42.66\00:06:44.27 she's listening in California. 00:06:44.30\00:06:45.67 Brittany, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:06:45.70\00:06:47.87 Brittany: Hey. Doug: Hi. 00:06:47.90\00:06:53.31 Brittany: Yeah, my question is why do bad things 00:06:53.34\00:06:56.78 happen to good people? 00:06:56.81\00:06:58.41 And are the past week's events part of the sign of the times? 00:06:58.45\00:07:02.22 Doug: Yeah, that is a great question. 00:07:02.25\00:07:04.19 And, you know, I--for those who are listening, sometimes these 00:07:04.22\00:07:07.29 programs are rebroadcasts, and last week, at the time 00:07:07.32\00:07:12.59 of this recording, there was another school shooting. 00:07:12.63\00:07:14.96 Innocent kids were killed, and a lot of people 00:07:15.00\00:07:17.93 just have very serious questions. 00:07:17.97\00:07:20.67 I think there's so much evil in the world with innocent people 00:07:20.70\00:07:23.27 suffering at the hands of wicked. 00:07:23.30\00:07:24.67 And why does God allow this? 00:07:24.71\00:07:26.01 If He's a loving God, if He's all powerful, 00:07:26.04\00:07:28.14 why doesn't He just stop it? 00:07:28.18\00:07:30.48 If there's a devil, why would God make a devil, 00:07:30.51\00:07:33.01 if He's a good, loving God? 00:07:33.05\00:07:34.78 And people have a lot of questions. 00:07:34.82\00:07:37.45 First, I'd recommend that anyone who has those questions, if you 00:07:37.49\00:07:40.79 have not seen the "Cosmic Conflict" DVD--and, of course, 00:07:40.82\00:07:45.43 it's on YouTube--just type in Cosmic Conflict, and you'll see 00:07:45.46\00:07:50.40 a DVD that was produced. 00:07:50.43\00:07:52.40 It explains where did evil come from? 00:07:52.43\00:07:55.40 Why does God not just destroy the devil as yet? 00:07:55.44\00:07:58.34 He will, the Bible tells us. 00:07:58.37\00:08:00.24 And why are there innocent 00:08:00.28\00:08:02.58 people suffering here in this world? 00:08:02.61\00:08:04.71 But you read in the book of Job, where Job was a good, 00:08:04.75\00:08:08.08 just, upright, righteous man, 00:08:08.12\00:08:09.85 and just all these terrible things happened. 00:08:09.88\00:08:11.65 The book of Job sort of gives you a picture behind the scenes, 00:08:11.69\00:08:14.79 that the bad things that happened to Job came from the 00:08:14.82\00:08:18.03 devil, and there's--the devil has highjacked this world, 00:08:18.06\00:08:22.56 because our first parents were made free, and God said, 00:08:22.60\00:08:27.00 "Don't disobey and eat this forbidden fruit," and the devil 00:08:27.04\00:08:29.97 said, "Listen to me, don't listen to God." 00:08:30.01\00:08:31.71 And when Adam and Eve chose to listen to the devil, they really 00:08:31.74\00:08:34.94 kind of handed over the keys of our world. 00:08:34.98\00:08:37.01 They surrendered dominion of this world to the enemy. 00:08:37.05\00:08:39.81 Paul says in Romans chapter 6 that "Whoever you obey, 00:08:39.85\00:08:43.85 that's whose servants you are," and they basically 00:08:43.89\00:08:46.45 gave the world to the devil. 00:08:46.49\00:08:48.56 Even Jesus refers to the devil as the prince of this world. 00:08:48.59\00:08:51.59 So, that's why there's so much suffering. 00:08:51.63\00:08:53.66 We ought to be asking the question, since the penalty 00:08:53.70\00:08:55.83 for sin is death, "Why aren't we all dead?" 00:08:55.86\00:08:58.30 It's the goodness of God that protects us and is giving us 00:08:58.33\00:09:01.57 some probationary time to make another decision to choose 00:09:01.60\00:09:05.64 Jesus and choose forgiveness. 00:09:05.67\00:09:07.54 Good question. 00:09:07.58\00:09:08.94 And I think we've got a lesson on "Did God Make a Devil?" 00:09:08.98\00:09:12.08 Jean: We do, but we also have a book that might be 00:09:12.11\00:09:14.55 a little more directed to your question. 00:09:14.58\00:09:16.18 It's called, "The Brook Dried Up." 00:09:16.22\00:09:18.02 Why do Christians suffer? 00:09:18.05\00:09:19.62 And that's free. 00:09:19.65\00:09:20.96 We'll send it to anyone here in the US and Canada. 00:09:20.99\00:09:23.59 The number to call is 800-835-6747, 00:09:23.63\00:09:26.36 and you can ask for the book, "The Brook Dried Up," 00:09:26.39\00:09:29.33 and we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:09:29.36\00:09:30.77 If you're listening outside of North America, we want to 00:09:30.80\00:09:33.23 encourage you to go to our website at amazingfacts.org. 00:09:33.27\00:09:35.80 Click on our free library, and you'll be able to read the book 00:09:35.84\00:09:39.17 right there online. 00:09:39.21\00:09:40.51 It's called, "The Brook Dried Up." 00:09:40.54\00:09:41.94 Gary in Illinois. 00:09:41.98\00:09:43.35 Gary, welcome to the program. 00:09:43.38\00:09:44.78 Gary: Thank you. 00:09:44.81\00:09:46.51 In Revelation 16:9, it says that men are scorched with a great 00:09:46.55\00:09:50.95 heat, and they did not repent. 00:09:50.99\00:09:53.25 Well, this could be, you know, solar flares. 00:09:53.29\00:09:56.02 So, my question is are natural disasters and the bowls of the 00:09:56.06\00:09:59.79 wrath of God one and the same? 00:09:59.83\00:10:02.76 And that's why people aren't repenting when these, you know, 00:10:02.80\00:10:08.54 horrific, extraordinary natural disasters happen? 00:10:08.57\00:10:13.07 Doug: Yeah, well, through history, not connected with the 00:10:13.11\00:10:16.68 seven last plagues, but through history, I think that God has 00:10:16.71\00:10:19.21 sometimes allowed natural disasters as a judgment, but not 00:10:19.25\00:10:22.88 every natural disaster is from the Lord. 00:10:22.92\00:10:25.29 You read in the book of Job, we just referenced, the Bible says 00:10:25.32\00:10:28.76 the devil went forth from the presence of the Lord, and he 00:10:28.79\00:10:30.93 brought a tornado that killed the children of Job. 00:10:30.96\00:10:34.83 The house blew down. 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.16 And we had tornadoes this last week. 00:10:36.20\00:10:37.77 It doesn't mean God sent them. 00:10:37.80\00:10:39.33 Sometimes the devil can even influence nature. 00:10:39.37\00:10:42.77 He was the most powerful of God's creation, and he's got a 00:10:42.80\00:10:47.41 lot of power even over the weather. 00:10:47.44\00:10:49.58 But the seven plagues, many of them appear to be nature 00:10:49.61\00:10:55.22 reacting somehow. 00:10:55.25\00:10:57.55 Many of the seven plagues are sort of similar to the plagues 00:10:57.59\00:11:00.32 that fell on ancient Egypt, namely the blood, the sores, 00:11:00.36\00:11:03.63 and the darkness on the seat of the beast. 00:11:03.66\00:11:07.60 People being scorched with great heat, it may also be connected 00:11:07.66\00:11:13.90 with something happening in the atmosphere or solar flares. 00:11:13.94\00:11:19.31 Jean: Yeah, I mean, God often uses natural things 00:11:19.34\00:11:22.84 to do a judgment. 00:11:22.88\00:11:25.91 For example, in the case of Egypt, when the plagues came, 00:11:25.95\00:11:27.92 there were literal locusts that infested the land. 00:11:27.95\00:11:30.45 So, God can use the sun, but it's clearly 00:11:30.49\00:11:34.09 an act of judgment that comes. 00:11:34.12\00:11:36.26 Why do the people not repent during the seven last plagues? 00:11:36.29\00:11:39.73 Well, at that point, the Holy Spirit has been withdrawn from 00:11:39.76\00:11:43.16 those who have rebelled against God. 00:11:43.20\00:11:45.23 Probation is closed, and we go through what we call the great 00:11:45.27\00:11:48.04 time of trouble that you read about in Daniel chapter 12, 00:11:48.07\00:11:50.41 verse 1. 00:11:50.44\00:11:52.04 So, people's minds are pretty much made up at that point. 00:11:52.07\00:11:54.11 And instead of these plagues bringing them to a point of 00:11:54.14\00:11:57.25 repentance, the Bible says that they curse God, they blame God, 00:11:57.28\00:12:01.28 they blaspheme His name for sending the plagues. 00:12:01.32\00:12:03.89 So, they know where it's coming from, but their hearts are hard, 00:12:03.92\00:12:06.79 and they're set in doing evil, and the plagues reveal that. 00:12:06.82\00:12:09.79 Doug: Yeah. 00:12:09.82\00:12:11.56 Jean: All right, thank you. 00:12:11.59\00:12:12.96 Next caller, we're going to try Gerry one more time. 00:12:12.99\00:12:14.86 Gerry in Texas, are you there? 00:12:14.93\00:12:16.90 Gerry: I'm here, guys, finally. 00:12:16.93\00:12:18.77 Hey, thanks, Pastor, for taking my call. 00:12:18.80\00:12:21.14 Doug: Yeah. 00:12:21.17\00:12:22.54 Gerry: I have several Bible texts in reference to 00:12:22.57\00:12:24.31 the question I'm asking. 00:12:24.34\00:12:25.91 And, you know, you have 00:12:25.94\00:12:27.68 to get spiritual knowledge through that. 00:12:27.71\00:12:30.48 What is the true physical nature of His physical nature? 00:12:30.51\00:12:35.48 We have in Genesis angels held swords, and we have Paul in Acts 00:12:35.52\00:12:41.89 19:15-16 that the men that were wanting to get the Holy Spirit, 00:12:41.92\00:12:48.90 the angels there pounded on them you know, beat them up or so. 00:12:48.93\00:12:54.20 And then we have Roger Moray's dog was kicked by an angel. 00:12:54.24\00:12:58.47 And then in Ezekiel, I guess we have that Satan had fire erupt 00:12:58.51\00:13:04.45 from his abdomen, in his wings. 00:13:04.48\00:13:06.95 I guess he did have a crown. 00:13:06.98\00:13:09.18 Doug: Yeah, so it seems sometimes, you know, one place 00:13:09.22\00:13:12.39 it says that the angels--and Pastor Ross says, I think, 00:13:12.42\00:13:15.72 they're his ministering-- 00:13:15.76\00:13:17.36 It says they're spirits. 00:13:17.39\00:13:19.26 We don't wrestle against flesh and blood. 00:13:19.29\00:13:20.60 That's Ephesians 6. 00:13:20.63\00:13:21.90 But also in Hebrews, when it talks about the angels, they are 00:13:21.93\00:13:23.60 ministering spirits that are sent forth to minister for those 00:13:23.63\00:13:27.00 who will inherit eternal life. 00:13:27.04\00:13:28.54 Jean: Hebrews 1:14. 00:13:28.57\00:13:30.37 Doug: Thank you, that's the one. 00:13:30.41\00:13:32.11 So, we've got several verses that tell us that angels are 00:13:32.14\00:13:34.18 spirits; but at the same time, we see them interacting in a 00:13:34.21\00:13:38.08 physical way with our world on many occasions, where they are 00:13:38.11\00:13:41.78 moving things and doing things, both good and bad angels. 00:13:41.82\00:13:45.35 Typically, the devil, when he interacts with the environment, 00:13:45.39\00:13:49.49 he does it through a creature or a person that's possessed. 00:13:49.52\00:13:52.69 I mean, even the demons cast out of the man, they said, 00:13:52.73\00:13:55.03 "Put us in the pigs." 00:13:55.06\00:13:56.83 You know, do something like that. 00:13:56.87\00:13:58.83 And Satan, he operated through the medium of a serpent, but 00:13:58.87\00:14:02.67 they are able to somehow interact with our dimension, and 00:14:02.70\00:14:07.14 so they are very real creatures. 00:14:07.18\00:14:09.71 I think the confusion comes in that we don't understand 00:14:09.74\00:14:14.35 what the spiritual realm is. 00:14:14.38\00:14:17.05 We assume that when something's spiritual, that means 00:14:17.09\00:14:19.32 that it has no substance the way we understand it. 00:14:19.35\00:14:23.02 But there's a whole dimension that in which 00:14:23.06\00:14:25.33 the angels live and operate. 00:14:25.36\00:14:26.90 And I would just say to everyone listening, the miracle by which 00:14:26.93\00:14:29.73 you're listening now or watching on television, we didn't know 00:14:29.76\00:14:33.23 about 100 years ago. 00:14:33.27\00:14:34.67 We didn't know about radio waves, and those frequencies, 00:14:34.70\00:14:36.81 and gamma rays, and x-rays, and there's a whole world 00:14:36.84\00:14:39.81 that we can't see, we now understand. 00:14:39.84\00:14:42.44 Well, I don't think we've yet figured out the equipment 00:14:42.48\00:14:45.85 to diagnose and measure the spiritual realm, 00:14:45.88\00:14:47.92 but it's very real. 00:14:47.95\00:14:49.68 And so angels somehow are able to interact with our physical 00:14:49.72\00:14:53.36 world when they choose to reveal themselves. 00:14:53.39\00:14:55.59 The Bible says Satan can appear as an angel of light, and they 00:14:55.62\00:14:58.63 can do miracles, and they can move things. 00:14:58.66\00:15:00.96 So, it is something of a mystery. 00:15:00.96\00:15:03.30 Jean: All right, well, thank you for your call, Gerry. 00:15:03.33\00:15:06.20 We've got Johnny listening in Kentucky. 00:15:06.23\00:15:08.17 Johnny, welcome to the program. 00:15:08.20\00:15:09.77 Johnny: Hello, thank you. 00:15:09.80\00:15:11.67 I was wondering, do you have any advice on how to witness to 00:15:11.71\00:15:17.31 family members who are running away from God and spend nearly 00:15:17.35\00:15:20.22 all their time on violent video games, violent movies, 00:15:20.25\00:15:24.39 and violent media in general? 00:15:24.42\00:15:27.99 Doug: Well, you know, there's three things you can do for 00:15:28.02\00:15:30.93 the people you love. 00:15:30.96\00:15:32.76 And I know it's heartbreaking when you see people you care 00:15:32.79\00:15:35.30 about and you love that don't seem to be interested in 00:15:35.33\00:15:37.70 eternity and the Holy Spirit and serving God. 00:15:37.73\00:15:41.17 But there's really only three. 00:15:41.20\00:15:43.64 I say three, and it's technically four things that you 00:15:43.67\00:15:46.47 do that you, when you want to reach somebody. 00:15:46.51\00:15:49.58 The one is you be a good witness. 00:15:49.61\00:15:52.41 Let your light shine. 00:15:52.45\00:15:54.25 The other would be pray for them. 00:15:54.28\00:15:57.05 God does things when you pray that would not happen otherwise. 00:15:57.09\00:16:01.22 Prayer really does make a difference. 00:16:01.26\00:16:03.66 The other is if they're open, share information. 00:16:03.69\00:16:08.16 So, if you've got friends, and they're preoccupied with 00:16:08.20\00:16:11.07 watching media that's not good, say, "Hey, I've got this video. 00:16:11.10\00:16:13.80 It's called "Cosmic Conflict." 00:16:13.84\00:16:15.94 Or "I've got this video called, 00:16:15.97\00:16:17.41 "The Bride, the Beast, and Babylon." 00:16:17.44\00:16:19.54 These are a couple done by Amazing Facts. 00:16:19.57\00:16:21.28 Say, "You really would enjoy this." 00:16:21.31\00:16:22.74 And if they're open--but sometimes you can't, 00:16:22.78\00:16:26.55 you know, your friends won't listen. 00:16:26.58\00:16:27.88 They won't read material. 00:16:27.92\00:16:29.62 They won't watch something you give them. 00:16:29.65\00:16:31.52 So, the fourth thing is you do the first three persistently. 00:16:31.55\00:16:36.22 Don't give up. 00:16:36.26\00:16:37.56 Pray for them, be a good witness, and share information 00:16:37.59\00:16:40.23 when they're available. 00:16:40.26\00:16:41.56 Don't nag them, don't badger them with information, because 00:16:41.60\00:16:44.63 you can drive them away. 00:16:44.67\00:16:46.40 You don't want to do that, but keep praying their hearts will 00:16:46.43\00:16:48.87 be open, and study with them, if they're open. 00:16:48.90\00:16:51.84 Jean: Absolutely. 00:16:51.87\00:16:53.51 And, of course, that's something we need to do. 00:16:53.54\00:16:55.51 We need to be the best witness that we can for our family and 00:16:55.54\00:16:57.71 our friends, and we need to pray that God gives us 00:16:57.75\00:16:59.91 wisdom to know when to speak or when to be quiet. 00:16:59.95\00:17:02.58 So, that's something that we need 00:17:02.62\00:17:04.12 to be connected to God with. 00:17:04.15\00:17:05.52 We've got Carly listening in--is it Nebraska? 00:17:05.55\00:17:08.66 Carly, welcome to the program. 00:17:08.69\00:17:10.23 Carly: Thank you very much and thank both of you for having 00:17:10.26\00:17:14.40 this program and being there. 00:17:14.46\00:17:16.60 I have a verse, Colossians 1:24, that I have never really 00:17:16.63\00:17:21.37 understood, and today in my daily reading I've come across 00:17:21.40\00:17:25.84 something that has a brand-new thought that kind of bothers me, 00:17:25.87\00:17:32.91 when I read it, and I wanted to run it by you. 00:17:32.95\00:17:38.19 Doug: Well, let me read the verse for our friends 00:17:38.22\00:17:40.19 that are listening. 00:17:40.22\00:17:41.52 I'll read Colossians 1:24. 00:17:41.56\00:17:42.86 Is that right? 00:17:42.89\00:17:44.46 Carly: Yes, and I understand that Paul is not speaking of 00:17:44.49\00:17:46.90 Christ's suffering here, that he's explaining to the people 00:17:46.93\00:17:49.93 his own sufferings-- 00:17:49.96\00:17:52.77 Doug: Yeah, let me read it real quick for those listening. 00:17:52.80\00:17:55.27 "I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up my flesh 00:17:55.30\00:17:59.54 in what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, 00:17:59.57\00:18:01.81 for the sake of His body, which is the church." 00:18:01.84\00:18:04.65 Okay. 00:18:04.68\00:18:06.92 Carly: Well, I never quite understood the lacking part, 00:18:06.95\00:18:10.42 and I, what I read was, like I say, a brand-new thought, 00:18:10.45\00:18:16.39 that there's been several explanations, but it could be 00:18:16.42\00:18:20.56 possibly that this text indicates Christ's afflictions 00:18:20.60\00:18:24.97 did not end after His ascension, and I'm reading this now, and 00:18:25.00\00:18:30.27 that consequently He continues to identify Himself with the 00:18:30.31\00:18:34.11 church, that as the believers fulfilled the mission of the 00:18:34.14\00:18:40.25 church, Christ is now being afflicted by the afflictions of 00:18:40.28\00:18:43.99 believers, suggesting that he is somehow experiencing 00:18:44.02\00:18:47.96 them in Himself. 00:18:47.99\00:18:49.52 And He says this will come to an end at His return in glory. 00:18:49.56\00:18:54.10 And I thought, Christ isn't afflicted anymore, 00:18:54.13\00:18:58.93 and the thought that He's being afflicted? 00:18:58.97\00:19:01.67 Doug: Yeah, well, let's talk about that. 00:19:01.70\00:19:03.81 That's an interesting observation. 00:19:03.84\00:19:05.34 You know, it tells us in the Bible that Jesus is not 00:19:05.37\00:19:09.21 physically, you know, He's in heaven now at 00:19:09.24\00:19:11.31 the right hand of the Father. 00:19:11.35\00:19:12.75 He's not physically suffering on the cross anymore. 00:19:12.78\00:19:15.88 He was crucified once. 00:19:15.92\00:19:17.59 Jesus does feel everything. 00:19:17.62\00:19:20.49 And so He said, "Inasmuch as you've done it to the least of 00:19:20.52\00:19:22.82 these, you've done it to me." 00:19:22.86\00:19:24.19 So, whether we do something kind or whether someone does 00:19:24.23\00:19:26.83 something evil to another person, Christ feels the pain in 00:19:26.86\00:19:32.20 that, you know, He empathizes with the pain of His creatures. 00:19:32.23\00:19:36.17 So, in that sense, He suffers. 00:19:36.20\00:19:38.37 Paul is probably not referring to that here. 00:19:38.41\00:19:40.68 When he talks about the afflictions of Christ, I think 00:19:40.71\00:19:42.91 he's talking about where Peter said that, you know, 00:19:42.94\00:19:45.35 "Don't be shocked if we share in His sufferings; 00:19:45.38\00:19:47.55 but if we do, rejoice." 00:19:47.58\00:19:49.12 And Paul, probably more than any apostle, he did go through a lot 00:19:49.15\00:19:53.92 of hardship and sufferings. 00:19:53.96\00:19:55.39 He was beaten, and stoned, and imprisoned. 00:19:55.42\00:19:57.33 And so he said, "Look, you know, I killed Christians, and 00:19:57.36\00:20:00.70 the Lord is letting me taste some of those sufferings now." 00:20:00.73\00:20:03.13 What do you think? 00:20:03.16\00:20:05.73 Jean: Yeah, I think so. 00:20:05.77\00:20:07.90 You know, He said, "My strength is made perfect in weakness." 00:20:07.94\00:20:10.07 And Paul was an example of faithfulness, even despite 00:20:10.11\00:20:12.17 terrible suffering. 00:20:12.21\00:20:14.24 And then, of course, you read about Paul's list, and you 00:20:14.28\00:20:16.48 mentioned some of them. 00:20:16.51\00:20:17.98 Another one was shipwrecked, imprisoned. 00:20:18.01\00:20:19.55 Eventually, he was beheaded for his faith. 00:20:19.58\00:20:21.38 So, you know, Christians can look at that and say he had so 00:20:21.42\00:20:23.22 many things happen to him; and, yet, look how positive and 00:20:23.25\00:20:25.62 convinced he was of the love of God. 00:20:25.65\00:20:27.32 Look at how strong his faith was. 00:20:27.36\00:20:29.52 So, he's an example. 00:20:29.56\00:20:30.99 And, you know, Paul is acknowledging there my 00:20:31.03\00:20:32.46 affliction is probably not over. 00:20:32.49\00:20:34.13 There's probably more that's going to come. 00:20:34.20\00:20:35.63 Doug: That's right. 00:20:35.66\00:20:37.13 And when he said, "Fill up the measure of suffering," 00:20:37.17\00:20:38.67 he meant sometimes God has to let us suffer to learn things. 00:20:38.70\00:20:41.20 And Paul said, "I'm still learning." 00:20:41.24\00:20:42.97 So, God's going to fill it up. 00:20:43.00\00:20:45.31 Jean: Yeah. 00:20:45.34\00:20:46.64 Doug: All right, thanks so much. 00:20:46.68\00:20:47.98 I hope that helps Carly. 00:20:48.01\00:20:49.51 Jean: We've got Anna listening in Oregon. 00:20:49.54\00:20:50.91 Anna, welcome to the program. 00:20:50.95\00:20:52.65 Anna: Hi, thank you for taking my question, again, guys. 00:20:52.68\00:20:54.82 Doug: Thank you. 00:20:54.85\00:20:58.22 Anna: So, my question is--you probably get it all the 00:20:58.25\00:21:01.69 time--but the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 00:21:01.72\00:21:06.29 And sometimes I think I get it, and then I don't, and then I do, 00:21:06.33\00:21:10.90 and then I don't. 00:21:10.93\00:21:12.67 I would like you to explain it to me. 00:21:12.70\00:21:16.07 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, it'll be hard in 3 minutes to 00:21:16.10\00:21:18.74 explain God. 00:21:18.77\00:21:20.84 The Bible says His ways are higher than our ways, 00:21:20.88\00:21:24.75 than the stars are above the earth. 00:21:24.78\00:21:27.32 And Job said God is past finding out. 00:21:27.35\00:21:31.02 So, you know, if we ever got where we could wrap our brains 00:21:31.05\00:21:34.09 around God, someone who's lived from everlasting to everlasting, 00:21:34.12\00:21:37.89 that made the cosmos, you know, it's quite literally a 00:21:37.93\00:21:41.03 mind-blowing thought. 00:21:41.06\00:21:42.43 But there is information revealed about the functions, 00:21:42.46\00:21:46.37 for lack of a better word, of the Father, Son, 00:21:46.40\00:21:50.37 and Spirit are different. 00:21:50.41\00:21:51.77 I heard you explain it once, Pastor Ross, 00:21:51.81\00:21:53.21 in kind of three phases. 00:21:53.24\00:21:54.58 Do you know what I'm talking about? 00:21:54.61\00:21:56.08 Jean: You've got to remind me. 00:21:56.11\00:21:57.48 Doug: Actually, well, you know, the Father's the 00:21:57.51\00:21:59.38 authority, and Jesus is the medium that reveals the Father. 00:21:59.41\00:22:05.15 He's the one who saves us. 00:22:05.19\00:22:06.69 And the Holy Spirit is, He's going and doing the bidding of 00:22:06.72\00:22:10.36 the Father and the Son, and leading the teaching, 00:22:10.39\00:22:12.53 the convicting, the guiding, and there's verses 00:22:12.56\00:22:14.50 that support these things. 00:22:14.56\00:22:16.10 You know, Jesus even said, "God the Father created 00:22:16.13\00:22:18.70 all things through the Son." 00:22:18.73\00:22:20.77 So, God the Father seems to--there's a willing submission 00:22:20.80\00:22:24.71 of the Son and the Spirit to the Father, because the Father is 00:22:24.74\00:22:28.04 the one who so loves the world, He sends His Son. 00:22:28.08\00:22:30.25 And then you've got the Father tells us He commits judgment 00:22:30.28\00:22:33.82 to the Son. 00:22:33.85\00:22:35.18 He commits creation to the Son. 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.15 The Spirit you see, of course, right there at creation, 00:22:37.19\00:22:38.95 is there in every facet of creation and salvation, and He's 00:22:38.99\00:22:42.72 sort of constantly the one communing between the Father, 00:22:42.76\00:22:48.60 and the Son, and the Spirit. 00:22:48.63\00:22:50.63 Anyway, we do have a book that is called, "Understanding the 00:22:50.67\00:22:55.80 Trinity, and we'll be happy to send you a copy of that, Debbie. 00:22:55.84\00:23:00.41 Is that Debbie asking that? 00:23:00.44\00:23:02.48 No, that's Anna. I'm sorry. 00:23:02.51\00:23:04.48 And, hopefully, that'll help a little bit. 00:23:04.51\00:23:06.61 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:23:06.65\00:23:10.62 You can ask for the book, "The Trinity: Is It Biblical?" 00:23:10.65\00:23:12.62 We'll be happy to send it to you. 00:23:12.65\00:23:14.32 The next caller that we have is Debbie. 00:23:14.36\00:23:16.49 Excuse me. 00:23:16.52\00:23:17.93 Listening in Canada. 00:23:17.96\00:23:19.59 Debbie, welcome to the program. 00:23:19.63\00:23:21.30 Debbie: Hi, how are you? 00:23:21.33\00:23:22.70 Doug: Good, thanks for calling. 00:23:22.73\00:23:24.30 Debbie: Okay, first of all, I want to say, Pastor Doug, 00:23:24.33\00:23:27.10 I still have your "Richest Caveman" 00:23:27.14\00:23:28.80 book with your signature in it. 00:23:28.84\00:23:30.37 I remember fighting over--not fighting, 00:23:30.41\00:23:31.97 but pushed my way through a crowd to get you to sign it. 00:23:32.01\00:23:34.54 Unbelievable book. 00:23:34.58\00:23:36.44 Changed my whole life. 00:23:36.48\00:23:37.78 Doug: Oh, praise the Lord. Debbie: Yeah. 00:23:37.81\00:23:40.15 Okay now, the question I have is not really--I would think it 00:23:40.18\00:23:44.02 would be a biblical--I'm trying to keep my body clean-- 00:23:44.05\00:23:46.52 well not trying, I am. 00:23:46.55\00:23:48.59 But when I die, I just filled out my health card, and they 00:23:48.62\00:23:52.56 ask you, a question on the health card, protégé thing 00:23:52.59\00:23:56.06 is do you want to be an organ donor? 00:23:56.10\00:23:58.77 Doug: Yeah. 00:23:58.80\00:24:00.20 Debbie: Do you want to donate your organs? 00:24:00.24\00:24:01.77 And I said yes. 00:24:01.80\00:24:03.14 Is that against Bible principle? 00:24:03.17\00:24:05.14 Doug: Well, it's a great question. 00:24:05.17\00:24:06.91 I had to ask myself the same question. 00:24:06.94\00:24:08.98 My driver's license also says yes just because I know I'm 00:24:09.01\00:24:15.22 getting a new body. 00:24:15.25\00:24:17.02 And if, you know, if there's any of my parts that are of any 00:24:17.05\00:24:20.79 use--and the older you get, the less likely that is--but, you 00:24:20.82\00:24:26.13 know, if, you know, if there's some part that is going to give 00:24:26.16\00:24:29.93 someone else sight, that--we lost a son about 20 years ago, 00:24:29.96\00:24:34.37 and they asked us, they said, "You know, would you be willing 00:24:34.40\00:24:39.14 to donate his cornea that could be transplanted in someone else 00:24:39.17\00:24:41.48 to help them see?" 00:24:41.51\00:24:42.88 And we said, "Absolutely." 00:24:42.91\00:24:44.48 Because, otherwise, it's just, you know, it's going to turn 00:24:44.51\00:24:46.48 back into ashes, the Bible tells us. 00:24:46.51\00:24:48.15 And so--and we feel the same way. 00:24:48.18\00:24:51.09 Now, I don't think that--I don't support cremation, because 00:24:51.12\00:24:55.26 that's just basically, you know, burning up your body. 00:24:55.29\00:24:57.73 But, you know, if there were some parts that could help 00:24:57.76\00:25:01.80 another person have life, 00:25:01.83\00:25:03.50 Jesus is all about sacrifice for others. 00:25:03.53\00:25:05.53 Jean: Yeah, there's no biblical reason not to. 00:25:05.57\00:25:08.04 Doug: No moral dilemma there. 00:25:08.07\00:25:09.44 Jean: Absolutely, if you can help. 00:25:09.47\00:25:10.84 All right, we're going to jump to James in Texas. 00:25:10.87\00:25:12.81 James, welcome to the program. 00:25:12.84\00:25:14.71 James: Yes, sir. 00:25:14.74\00:25:16.11 My question is, I intend to be re-baptized on Easter Sunday. 00:25:16.14\00:25:19.98 Doug: Oh, wow. 00:25:20.02\00:25:21.68 James: But is there going to be--is there a special order 00:25:21.72\00:25:24.49 for my repentance? 00:25:24.52\00:25:26.62 Like, is there baptism, confession, repentance, 00:25:26.65\00:25:30.46 or any kind of special order I have to end up doing? 00:25:30.49\00:25:33.80 Doug: Yeah, well, you'll read in Acts chapter 2, when the 00:25:33.83\00:25:36.43 people said to Peter, after Peter preaches his sermon-- 00:25:36.46\00:25:39.80 and I forget--it's like verse 38 maybe--they said, "Men and 00:25:39.83\00:25:43.34 brethren, what shall we do?" 00:25:43.37\00:25:44.74 Peter said, "Repent and be baptized." 00:25:44.77\00:25:47.28 And John the Baptist, he said, "Repent and be baptized." 00:25:47.31\00:25:50.88 So, repentance is a sorrow for sin and a willingness 00:25:50.91\00:25:56.05 to turn away from sin. 00:25:56.08\00:25:57.49 It's a U-turn where you turn from your old ways and you would 00:25:57.52\00:26:00.82 walk in a newness of life. 00:26:00.86\00:26:02.39 That should definitely come before baptism. 00:26:02.42\00:26:05.53 So, it's like if baptism is like marriage, and if you're going 00:26:05.56\00:26:09.23 to marry a particular girl, she's going to say, 00:26:09.26\00:26:11.47 "I want to make sure you're done dating all the other girls 00:26:11.50\00:26:13.44 before we get married." 00:26:13.47\00:26:14.77 You don't say, "Well, after we get married, then I'll try 00:26:14.80\00:26:16.97 and stop dating the other girls." 00:26:17.01\00:26:18.67 So, you want to--it doesn't mean you need to be perfect before 00:26:18.71\00:26:22.34 you're baptized, but you should, you know, express sorrow for 00:26:22.38\00:26:25.58 your sins, confess your sins to God, repent from your sins, 00:26:25.61\00:26:28.08 and then when you are baptized, you have followed the criteria, 00:26:28.12\00:26:33.29 you then come from the water, and all your sins are forgiven, 00:26:33.32\00:26:36.99 and God says He cleanses you from all unrighteousness 00:26:37.03\00:26:39.83 when we confess our sins. 00:26:39.86\00:26:43.26 Hey, friends, you can tell we're going to take a break. 00:26:43.30\00:26:45.07 Don't go too far, because we've got a lot more Bible questions 00:26:45.10\00:26:48.14 coming, and I think we've got a special offer we can make 00:26:48.17\00:26:51.17 available to Glenn when we come back. 00:26:51.21\00:26:54.38 God bless. 00:26:54.41\00:26:56.51 ¤¤¤ 00:26:56.54\00:26:59.28 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:26:59.31\00:27:00.75 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:00.78\00:27:03.12 ¤¤¤ 00:27:04.59\00:27:06.55 female announcer: Life can be overwhelming. 00:27:07.19\00:27:08.69 Where can an on-the-go woman find quality time with God? Jean: Absolutely. 00:32:52.10\00:32:54.00 Doug: And the four creatures are very similar in Ezekiel 00:32:54.04\00:32:56.27 to the ones you see, if not identical, 00:32:56.30\00:32:57.94 to the ones you see in Revelation. 00:32:57.97\00:32:59.74 So, I hope that helps a little bit. 00:32:59.77\00:33:02.71 All right, Glenn, we sure are--sorry, that was Hughley. 00:33:02.74\00:33:06.15 We sure appreciate your question. 00:33:06.18\00:33:08.35 Jean: The next one caller that we have, we're going to try 00:33:08.38\00:33:10.89 Glenn one more time, I think. 00:33:10.92\00:33:12.29 Glenn, are you there in Ohio? 00:33:12.32\00:33:14.29 Glenn, welcome to the program. 00:33:14.32\00:33:16.46 Glenn: Yes, thank you very much for taking my call. 00:33:16.49\00:33:18.53 I hope we made it through this time. 00:33:18.56\00:33:20.53 Doug: You did, you're on. 00:33:20.56\00:33:21.90 Glenn: Good. 00:33:21.93\00:33:23.26 My Bible study, I'm studying in the wonderful book of Zechariah, 00:33:23.30\00:33:26.90 the 8th chapter, and I got to verse 19, and it talks about the 00:33:26.94\00:33:32.44 four fasts, of four months, the fourth month, fifth month, 00:33:32.47\00:33:37.15 seventh month, and tenth month. 00:33:37.18\00:33:39.48 I'm concerned what that fast is about and what calendar is it 00:33:39.51\00:33:43.82 talking about? 00:33:43.85\00:33:45.39 Can you help me? 00:33:45.42\00:33:47.02 Doug: Yeah, I think he's referring back to the feasts 00:33:47.06\00:33:48.96 that you'd find in Leviticus, where you've got the-- 00:33:48.99\00:33:52.59 what was it? 00:33:52.63\00:33:54.10 Seven annual feasts, and some of them involve fasts. 00:33:54.10\00:33:56.43 There were days of fasting. 00:33:56.46\00:33:58.30 And so this would be what they called the spiritual calendar 00:33:58.33\00:34:02.87 that began with the Passover. 00:34:02.90\00:34:05.41 Now, Israel had both a civil calendar that was a little bit 00:34:05.44\00:34:12.78 different from their religious or spiritual calendar. 00:34:12.81\00:34:16.35 And in the Jewish spiritual calendar, they had their fall 00:34:16.38\00:34:18.79 festivals, and then they had their spring festivals, and then 00:34:18.82\00:34:21.62 there was the Day of Atonement, which was the last festival at 00:34:21.66\00:34:23.29 the end of the spiritual year. 00:34:23.32\00:34:24.93 And I know there was a fast at the beginning of Passover, 00:34:24.96\00:34:26.96 and there was also a feast with Passover. 00:34:27.00\00:34:29.00 So, they had both. 00:34:29.03\00:34:30.67 And I'm pretty sure that Zechariah is also talking about 00:34:30.70\00:34:34.14 those fasts that you find there. 00:34:34.17\00:34:36.40 Now, we do have a book we can share that talks about 00:34:36.44\00:34:38.91 "Jesus and the Feast Days." 00:34:38.94\00:34:41.34 And I looked on our new lineup of books, and we do have 00:34:41.38\00:34:47.05 a book that talks about the feast days, yeah. 00:34:47.08\00:34:48.55 So, if Glenn wants to call--I'm sorry. 00:34:48.58\00:34:51.25 Is that Glenn, is that right? 00:34:51.29\00:34:53.02 Yeah, if he wants to call and ask for that, 00:34:53.05\00:34:54.52 we'll be happy to share that. 00:34:54.56\00:34:56.09 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:34:56.12\00:34:59.19 You can ask for the book on "Jesus and the Feast Days," 00:34:59.23\00:35:02.16 and we'll send that to anyone here in the US or in Canada. 00:35:02.20\00:35:05.20 The next caller that we have is Ty, 00:35:05.23\00:35:07.10 and he's listening in Minnesota. 00:35:07.14\00:35:08.64 Ty, welcome to the program. 00:35:08.67\00:35:12.87 Ty, you're on the air, hi. 00:35:12.91\00:35:14.94 Ty: Hi. 00:35:14.98\00:35:16.41 Doug: And your question. 00:35:16.44\00:35:18.35 Ty: Why hasn't God destroyed Satan? 00:35:18.38\00:35:22.12 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:35:22.15\00:35:23.95 Why doesn't God just destroy Satan? 00:35:23.99\00:35:26.19 Well, you know, when children sometimes disobey their parents, 00:35:26.22\00:35:31.09 parents are very loving and patient. 00:35:31.13\00:35:34.30 They want their children to understand and obey them, 00:35:34.36\00:35:36.67 because they love them, because what they're asking 00:35:36.70\00:35:38.73 is good and reasonable. 00:35:38.77\00:35:43.64 That's the reason that God did not destroy the devil right 00:35:43.67\00:35:46.34 away, is He did not want the other angels obeying, because 00:35:46.37\00:35:49.91 they were afraid they were going to get killed 00:35:49.94\00:35:52.21 if they didn't disobey. 00:35:52.25\00:35:54.02 God doesn't want us motivated just by fear of punishment. 00:35:54.05\00:35:56.85 God wants us to obey Him because we love Him. 00:35:56.89\00:35:59.42 And the devil was accusing God of some terrible things, 00:35:59.45\00:36:01.89 so God had to allow Satan to demonstrate to the world 00:36:01.92\00:36:07.30 what was going to happen. 00:36:07.30\00:36:09.13 He's showing the world by His patience that following 00:36:09.16\00:36:11.67 the devil leads to all kinds of pain. 00:36:11.70\00:36:14.07 People had to find out and see what was going to happen. 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.30 So, you would enjoy--tell your parents to help you watch 00:36:16.34\00:36:19.47 the "Cosmic Conflict" DVD. 00:36:19.51\00:36:21.78 It's free. 00:36:21.81\00:36:23.11 You can watch it online. 00:36:23.14\00:36:24.51 Just go to YouTube and type in Cosmic Conflict. 00:36:24.55\00:36:27.02 It's the one with Pastor Doug, and you'll see it there. 00:36:27.05\00:36:30.22 Thanks so much, Ty. 00:36:30.25\00:36:32.05 Jean: The next caller that we have is Terry listening 00:36:32.09\00:36:33.46 in Tennessee. 00:36:33.49\00:36:34.96 Terry, welcome to the program. 00:36:34.99\00:36:36.76 Terry: Thank you, Pastor Ross. 00:36:36.79\00:36:39.36 Hi, Pastor Doug. Are you guys all right? 00:36:39.39\00:36:41.90 Doug: We're doing great. Thank you for calling. 00:36:41.93\00:36:44.03 Terry: No, thank you. 00:36:44.07\00:36:46.27 Jean: And your question? 00:36:46.30\00:36:48.50 Terry: Hello. Doug: Yeah, you're there. 00:36:48.54\00:36:50.94 Terry: Yeah, yeah. 00:36:50.97\00:36:53.01 It's not so much on the Scriptures, but I just kind of 00:36:53.04\00:36:55.58 wondered when the exiles that were put in Babylon, 00:36:55.61\00:37:02.68 when Jeremiah was a prophet, they stayed there 70 years, 00:37:02.72\00:37:07.66 and then they returned, okay. 00:37:07.69\00:37:09.92 Doug: Mm-hm. 00:37:09.96\00:37:11.63 Terry: Why didn't they set up the kingdom like it 00:37:11.66\00:37:13.86 was before the exile? 00:37:13.90\00:37:16.80 With their own king and everything 00:37:16.83\00:37:18.93 from the house of David? 00:37:18.97\00:37:20.64 Doug: Good question. 00:37:20.67\00:37:22.87 Yeah, they would loved to have done that; but when they were 00:37:22.90\00:37:25.44 allowed to go back from Babylon to Israel, they did it 00:37:25.47\00:37:28.84 under the rulership of the king of Persia. 00:37:28.88\00:37:32.68 In other words, all they could do was have a governor. 00:37:32.71\00:37:35.92 And so the king of Persia said, "You don't have a king anymore. 00:37:35.95\00:37:38.59 I am the king, and you will pay tribute to me. 00:37:38.62\00:37:42.22 But I'm going to give you your freedom, 00:37:42.26\00:37:44.23 and you'll have your own governor." 00:37:44.26\00:37:45.96 And from the time of the Babylonian captivity, there may 00:37:45.99\00:37:49.26 have been a brief period where they broke away 00:37:49.30\00:37:51.77 from the Greeks during the time of the Maccabees. 00:37:51.80\00:37:53.57 But other than that, they were under the Persians, then they 00:37:53.60\00:37:55.90 were under the Greeks, and then they were under the Romans, 00:37:55.94\00:37:58.61 and then the Romans destroyed the city. 00:37:58.64\00:38:01.21 They never had a monarchy again. 00:38:01.24\00:38:03.31 But when Jesus comes, He is the Son of David that 00:38:03.35\00:38:06.68 will reign over the New Jerusalem. 00:38:06.72\00:38:08.38 So, all the promises about Israel and God's people 00:38:08.42\00:38:12.12 inhabiting the world will be fulfilled in the Son of David, 00:38:12.15\00:38:15.56 Christ, when He establishes His kingdom. 00:38:15.59\00:38:18.26 Thanks so much. 00:38:18.29\00:38:19.86 I hope that helps a little bit. 00:38:19.89\00:38:21.63 Jean: All right, we've got Terry listening in Virginia. 00:38:21.66\00:38:23.03 Terry, welcome to the program. 00:38:23.06\00:38:24.83 Doug: Another Terry. Welcome. 00:38:24.87\00:38:27.47 Terry: Yes, hi. Thank you for taking my call. 00:38:27.50\00:38:31.07 Doug: Yes, and your question. 00:38:31.11\00:38:34.24 Terry: Is 1 Corinthians chapter 11:1-16, 00:38:34.28\00:38:42.25 Paul's opinion or is it a message from God? 00:38:42.28\00:38:45.85 And how should we understand it, please? 00:38:45.89\00:38:49.12 Doug: All right, well, you quoted a lot of verses, but I 00:38:49.16\00:38:52.69 think you're talking about where it talks about women covering 00:38:52.73\00:38:55.86 their heads when they pray, and that's the section, 00:38:55.90\00:38:58.40 if I'm not mistaken, right? 00:38:58.43\00:38:59.73 Terry: Right. Doug: Yeah. 00:38:59.77\00:39:02.10 So, the big question that people have here is was this a custom 00:39:02.14\00:39:07.84 of was this a commandment for every people in every age, 00:39:07.88\00:39:11.78 that women should not pray in public without 00:39:11.81\00:39:14.65 having their heads covered. 00:39:14.68\00:39:16.32 And most of the commentaries believe that Paul is addressing 00:39:16.35\00:39:21.39 the custom of respect during his time. 00:39:21.42\00:39:24.83 There's no command in the Old Testament we can find where 00:39:24.86\00:39:27.86 it says a woman must cover her head when she prays 00:39:27.93\00:39:30.00 or when she's in worship. 00:39:30.03\00:39:31.83 You do have examples of women that were praying in public. 00:39:31.87\00:39:36.60 It doesn't tell us what they might have had on their head. 00:39:36.64\00:39:38.41 I would say, first of all, if a person feels convicted about 00:39:38.44\00:39:41.74 this, well, by all means do it. 00:39:41.78\00:39:43.41 You know, if you go to Russia, still a lot of the Orthodox 00:39:43.45\00:39:46.85 churches, the woman always cover their heads when they pray, 00:39:46.88\00:39:48.25 and I've worshiped in Pentecostal churches, years ago, 00:39:48.28\00:39:52.25 whenever they prayed, they covered their heads, 00:39:52.29\00:39:55.56 if a woman was praying in public. 00:39:55.59\00:39:57.69 And but Paul mentions later in the verse--and I'm trying to 00:39:57.73\00:40:01.36 remember where it was--he said, yeah, verse 16, he says, 00:40:01.40\00:40:04.97 "If anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such 00:40:05.00\00:40:09.07 custom, nor do the churches of God." 00:40:09.10\00:40:11.04 So, he's using the word "custom" there, and it makes us think 00:40:11.07\00:40:14.31 they're talking about a custom of respect. 00:40:14.34\00:40:17.21 This is the only place this is mentioned. 00:40:17.25\00:40:20.22 So, you know, I don't know that they had these apostle Taliban 00:40:20.25\00:40:26.22 that were telling all the women that they had to cover their 00:40:26.25\00:40:28.92 heads or get thrown out of the church. 00:40:28.96\00:40:30.66 But there was a custom, and they were having problems in Corinth. 00:40:30.69\00:40:34.20 Some have said that, you know, the immoral women in the cities, 00:40:34.23\00:40:40.40 they used to braid their hair with chains of gold 00:40:40.44\00:40:43.54 and leave it uncovered. 00:40:43.57\00:40:45.21 And so to show that you are a believer, that you would cover 00:40:45.24\00:40:46.94 your hair, which was your glory, as a sign of submission to God 00:40:46.98\00:40:49.18 and even your husband. 00:40:49.21\00:40:51.08 So, this is the understanding I've seen from those verses. 00:40:51.11\00:40:53.55 Jean: All right, I think the point there is showing 00:40:53.58\00:40:56.02 respect and reverence. 00:40:56.05\00:40:57.42 Doug: Yeah. 00:40:57.45\00:40:58.79 Jean: And, of course, that's applicable not only to women, 00:40:58.82\00:41:00.22 also to men. 00:41:00.26\00:41:01.62 In our culture, if a man enters into a church, and he's wearing 00:41:01.66\00:41:04.66 a hat, the appropriate thing is to remove the hat, 00:41:04.69\00:41:07.50 a sign of respect. 00:41:07.50\00:41:09.20 If you go to different cultures, in other places around the 00:41:09.23\00:41:10.70 world, they also have different types of customs. 00:41:10.73\00:41:13.97 You go to some places where you have to wear a hat. 00:41:14.00\00:41:16.84 Doug: Yeah, you go into a Jewish synagogue, 00:41:16.87\00:41:18.67 you put the hat on. 00:41:18.71\00:41:20.41 So, you go to some churches, you take your shoes off. 00:41:20.44\00:41:22.48 Jean: Right, right. 00:41:22.51\00:41:23.88 So different places, but the principle there is the same, 00:41:23.91\00:41:26.25 showing reverence and respect. 00:41:26.28\00:41:28.12 Doug: Thank you, Terry. 00:41:28.15\00:41:29.55 Jean: We've got Bryan listening in Oklahoma. 00:41:29.58\00:41:31.05 Bryan, welcome to the program, Bryan in Oklahoma. 00:41:31.09\00:41:33.49 Bryan: Hi, thanks Pastors. 00:41:33.52\00:41:34.99 I appreciate y'all's ministry. 00:41:35.02\00:41:36.49 Doug: Thank you. 00:41:36.52\00:41:37.99 Bryan: So, my question is, is I think I've heard Pastor Doug 00:41:38.03\00:41:40.20 refer to Moses as a Christ type or a type of Christ. 00:41:40.23\00:41:43.83 Doug: Yes. 00:41:43.87\00:41:45.53 Bryan: And I was wondering if you could explain that for us. 00:41:45.57\00:41:47.27 Doug: Yeah, there's probably many ways where you could find 00:41:47.30\00:41:49.70 typology, how Moses is a type of Christ. 00:41:49.74\00:41:52.44 First of all, you don't want to get it from me. 00:41:52.47\00:41:55.31 You listen to what Paul says in 1 Corinthians chapter 10, 00:41:55.34\00:41:58.68 and he shows how the whole Exodus experience 00:41:58.71\00:42:02.25 is an allegory of salvation. 00:42:02.28\00:42:05.05 They were saved from the bondage of the devil, as we are saved 00:42:05.09\00:42:08.16 from the bondage of--they were saved from the pharaoh 00:42:08.19\00:42:11.26 as we're saved from the devil. 00:42:11.29\00:42:13.33 Moses was born from slaves, but he never served as a slave. 00:42:13.36\00:42:16.93 And Jesus was born of humans, but He never sinned. 00:42:16.97\00:42:20.04 Moses was what we call a mediator. 00:42:20.07\00:42:22.64 He would go up the mountain, and God would speak to him, 00:42:22.67\00:42:25.01 and he'd bring the message, and then they'd talk to Moses, 00:42:25.04\00:42:27.31 and he'd bring the message to God. 00:42:27.34\00:42:29.01 And Jesus is our mediator. 00:42:29.04\00:42:31.25 Moses was interceding for the people. 00:42:31.28\00:42:33.38 He would lift up his hands, and they would win the battle. 00:42:33.42\00:42:36.08 He stretched out his hands, and Jesus stretched out His hands. 00:42:36.12\00:42:37.95 The word Moses means drawn from the water. 00:42:37.99\00:42:41.76 Moses is actually an Egyptian word. 00:42:41.79\00:42:44.39 They even had some pharaohs that were called Tut-Moses. 00:42:44.43\00:42:46.93 It means drawn from the water. 00:42:46.96\00:42:49.06 And Jesus, you know, the Bible tells us in Revelation 17, the 00:42:49.10\00:42:52.17 waters represent multitudes of peoples and nations. 00:42:52.20\00:42:55.40 Jesus came from the people. 00:42:55.44\00:42:57.54 He came from the slaves to save the slaves, and Jesus came 00:42:57.57\00:43:00.44 from humanity to save humanity. 00:43:00.48\00:43:03.28 So, you've got Amram and Jochebed had three children. 00:43:03.31\00:43:06.72 You had a trinity of children, and they were all 00:43:06.75\00:43:09.65 prophets--Miriam, Aaron, and Moses--all prophets. 00:43:09.68\00:43:13.66 You have the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. 00:43:13.69\00:43:16.16 They've got all kinds of illustrations. 00:43:16.19\00:43:18.19 And Moses had to die just before they crossed over. 00:43:18.23\00:43:20.40 Jesus had to die for us to be able to cross over. 00:43:20.43\00:43:23.13 So, I could go on and on. 00:43:23.16\00:43:25.63 I have a book I wrote on this. 00:43:25.67\00:43:27.27 Matter of fact, we're doing a new study series called 00:43:27.30\00:43:29.14 "Shadows of Light" on types of Christ in the Bible. 00:43:29.17\00:43:31.61 Moses is one of those lessons. 00:43:31.64\00:43:33.58 But there's a book. 00:43:33.61\00:43:34.98 You can just go to Amazon and type in "Shadows of Light," 00:43:35.01\00:43:38.38 Doug Batchelor, and you'll see our book where 00:43:38.41\00:43:41.18 I've got a whole section on Moses. 00:43:41.22\00:43:42.82 Jean: All right, very good, thank you. 00:43:42.85\00:43:44.25 Next caller that we have is Kay, listening in Michigan. 00:43:44.29\00:43:48.19 Kay, welcome to the program. 00:43:48.22\00:43:50.36 Kay: Well, thank you. 00:43:50.39\00:43:51.83 I have just a quick question for you. 00:43:51.86\00:43:55.10 Sixty-six years I've been in the church, and I've always thought 00:43:55.13\00:43:58.97 I knew about the clean and unclean foods. 00:43:59.00\00:44:02.94 And my husband was listening to STR the other night, and a 00:44:02.97\00:44:09.74 pastor on there said he could not find in the Bible where you 00:44:09.78\00:44:15.02 could not eat duck. 00:44:15.05\00:44:17.95 And I can't find it either now, 00:44:17.99\00:44:20.56 but all my life I've been told no. 00:44:20.59\00:44:23.59 What is your opinion? 00:44:23.63\00:44:25.99 Doug: Well, first of all, I'd say if you're in doubt, 00:44:26.03\00:44:27.50 do the safe thing. 00:44:27.50\00:44:29.53 So, don't eat it. 00:44:29.56\00:44:31.40 But I do believe, at least in the King James Version, 00:44:31.43\00:44:34.07 it refers to swans as being unclean fowl. 00:44:34.10\00:44:39.04 And ducks and swans are in the same category. 00:44:39.07\00:44:41.68 I can't remember the scientific genus of how you say that. 00:44:41.71\00:44:45.25 But, you know, ducks are not a foraging bird. 00:44:45.28\00:44:49.32 The clean birds were usually the foraging birds that go around. 00:44:49.35\00:44:51.89 They peck. 00:44:51.92\00:44:53.22 Karen and I were walking today, 00:44:53.25\00:44:54.59 and we got surrounded by a herd of turkeys. 00:44:54.62\00:44:56.16 Are turkeys a herd? 00:44:56.19\00:44:57.83 Anyway, and, you know, they go around, they peck, they eat 00:44:57.86\00:45:01.10 seeds, they eat bugs, and there are pheasant, quail, 00:45:01.13\00:45:04.47 they're all the clean birds, the partridges, so forth. 00:45:04.50\00:45:07.67 They were safe for sacrifice. 00:45:07.70\00:45:10.11 You never see them sacrificing a duck or a swan. 00:45:10.14\00:45:13.07 So, I would say they're in the unclean category. 00:45:13.11\00:45:16.81 They usually muck around in the lakes. 00:45:16.85\00:45:18.81 They just have a whole different diet. 00:45:18.85\00:45:20.95 Anyway, I hope that helps a little bit. 00:45:20.98\00:45:23.22 Thank you. 00:45:23.25\00:45:25.29 Jean: Thank you, Kay. 00:45:25.32\00:45:26.96 We've got Mark listening in Arkansas. 00:45:26.99\00:45:28.42 Mark, welcome to the program. 00:45:28.46\00:45:30.13 Mark: Yeah, I was really having a hard time. 00:45:30.16\00:45:33.16 A lot of times we keep charging our acts and the influence of 00:45:33.19\00:45:38.23 the evil ones, and my understanding was Jesus says 00:45:38.27\00:45:41.64 that we've been led astray by our own natural tendencies. 00:45:41.67\00:45:44.91 And so I went to Jeremiah, the prophet Jeremiah, and he was 00:45:44.94\00:45:49.38 trying to tell us that the human heart is deceitful above all 00:45:49.41\00:45:53.05 things, and sometimes even desperately wicked, and that we 00:45:53.08\00:45:57.65 fall into something like foolish fears, diverse lusts, envy, 00:45:57.69\00:46:04.46 enslaving pleasures, malice, envy, and even vengeful hatred. 00:46:04.49\00:46:09.20 So, it seems to me that we are our own enemy, 00:46:09.23\00:46:13.13 and Satan really ain't our enemy. 00:46:13.17\00:46:15.17 It seems to me that we are. 00:46:15.20\00:46:17.01 Maybe I'm wrong, but if you're not connected to the vine, 00:46:17.04\00:46:20.51 Jesus Christ, then it's kind of hard to produce good fruits. 00:46:20.54\00:46:25.21 And I just was wondering what you thought about 00:46:25.25\00:46:27.12 the prophet Jeremiah, to tell us. 00:46:27.15\00:46:31.02 Doug: Well, absolutely, I agree completely 00:46:31.05\00:46:33.15 with the prophet. 00:46:33.19\00:46:34.86 I agree with all the Word, but I agree with Jeremiah 00:46:34.89\00:46:36.99 that the Bible does teach that an unconverted person, 00:46:37.03\00:46:41.43 the human heart is selfish and desperately wicked. 00:46:41.46\00:46:43.97 We all inherited these fallen natures from Adam and Eve. 00:46:44.00\00:46:48.40 And, originally, God created man to be motivated by love. 00:46:48.44\00:46:52.51 But because of sin, the compass was broken. 00:46:52.54\00:46:55.64 The needle now points inward instead of outward. 00:46:55.68\00:46:57.41 Instead of pointing it away from ourselves and loving God, 00:46:57.45\00:47:00.92 and loving others, it points to love of self as first. 00:47:00.95\00:47:03.32 And then but when you're born again, through the Holy Spirit, 00:47:03.35\00:47:08.56 you get a new nature, and you start learning, through 00:47:08.59\00:47:11.93 the Spirit, to love, and old things are passed away. 00:47:11.96\00:47:17.43 All things are become new. 00:47:17.47\00:47:19.37 You have new motives and new desires, and it doesn't change 00:47:19.40\00:47:21.74 all at once, but many things can change just through prayer and 00:47:21.77\00:47:25.61 accepting Christ, where you get the Holy Spirit. 00:47:25.64\00:47:28.04 You start thinking about love for God and how much He gave, 00:47:28.08\00:47:31.08 and we love Him because He first loved us. 00:47:31.11\00:47:32.91 We love others because we see how much He loves others. 00:47:32.95\00:47:36.38 And yes, the unconverted heart is evil and desperately wicked. 00:47:36.42\00:47:41.39 The Bible says, "All we, like sheep, we've gone astray. 00:47:41.42\00:47:44.96 We've turned each one to his own way. 00:47:44.99\00:47:47.10 The selfish, unconverted heart turns to its own way. 00:47:47.13\00:47:50.43 But when we encounter Jesus, and we're born again, we're made 00:47:50.47\00:47:54.27 new creatures, things change, and that's called conversion, 00:47:54.30\00:47:57.87 and that's what we all need to be praying for. 00:47:57.91\00:48:00.51 Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, we become like Him. 00:48:00.54\00:48:03.21 Jean: All right, thank you, Mark. 00:48:03.24\00:48:05.65 We've got Megan listening in Canada. 00:48:05.68\00:48:07.68 Megan, welcome to the program. 00:48:07.72\00:48:10.69 Megan: Hi, thank you for having me. 00:48:10.72\00:48:12.19 Doug: Thanks for calling. 00:48:12.22\00:48:14.32 Megan: My question is about 1 Corinthians chapter 13, verse 1. 00:48:14.36\00:48:19.73 I've always understood tongues to mean languages. 00:48:19.76\00:48:24.00 But where it's talking about "if I speak in the tongues of men 00:48:24.03\00:48:29.10 or of angels," that made me wonder what 00:48:29.14\00:48:31.47 is speaking in tongues of angels? 00:48:31.51\00:48:34.31 'Cause I'm wondering if that's what some people use to explain, 00:48:34.34\00:48:40.02 like, sometimes there's, they would say they're speaking in 00:48:40.05\00:48:43.02 tongues, but it's not something that can be translated. 00:48:43.05\00:48:46.42 Doug: Yeah, I think you need to continue reading. 00:48:46.45\00:48:49.49 Well, first of all, I'm sure angels do have a language. 00:48:49.52\00:48:51.69 So, I don't doubt that for a moment, 00:48:51.73\00:48:53.93 because they do communicate. 00:48:53.96\00:48:55.40 Man is made a little lower than the angels, and we speak. 00:48:55.43\00:48:58.70 I'm sure the angels speak. 00:48:58.73\00:49:03.30 But when Paul says, "Though I speak with the tongue of men 00:49:03.34\00:49:05.24 and angels, and have not love, I'm just a sounding brass or 00:49:05.27\00:49:07.68 a clanging cymbal," Paul was not saying that he spoke 00:49:07.71\00:49:10.91 with the tongue of angels. 00:49:10.95\00:49:12.75 The word "though" means even if, because you read on. 00:49:12.78\00:49:15.15 He says, "And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand 00:49:15.18\00:49:18.25 all mysteries and have all knowledge," well, clearly, Paul 00:49:18.29\00:49:21.09 did not understand all mysteries and have all knowledge. 00:49:21.12\00:49:25.46 "And though I have all faith so I can move mountains, 00:49:25.49\00:49:27.60 if I have not love it's nothing." 00:49:27.60\00:49:29.50 And then he says, "And though I give my goods to feed the poor, 00:49:29.53\00:49:33.74 and though I give my body to be burned--" 00:49:33.77\00:49:35.54 Paul did not give his body to be burned. 00:49:35.57\00:49:37.91 He didn't give away all his goods to feed the poor. 00:49:37.94\00:49:39.97 So, Paul is saying that even if you do all these wonderful 00:49:40.01\00:49:42.64 things--he didn't say he did them all. 00:49:42.68\00:49:46.31 So, when he says, "Though I speak with the tongues of men 00:49:46.35\00:49:48.62 and angels," Paul is just using an illustration there. 00:49:48.65\00:49:51.42 He is not saying that he or anyone in the world speaks 00:49:51.45\00:49:54.02 with the tongue of angels. 00:49:54.06\00:49:55.62 So, does that make sense, Megan? 00:49:55.66\00:49:58.13 Megan: Yes, it does. 00:49:58.16\00:49:59.73 Thank you so much. 00:49:59.76\00:50:01.06 Doug: Okay you know--thank you. 00:50:01.10\00:50:02.46 And do me a favor. 00:50:02.50\00:50:03.83 There's a book we'll send you for free. 00:50:03.87\00:50:05.20 And anyone who wants to understand the gift of tongues 00:50:05.23\00:50:06.94 a little better, and these very 00:50:30.93\00:50:33.19 You can also dial #250. 00:50:33.23\00:50:35.23 I almost forgot about that. 00:50:35.26\00:50:36.60 And you can just say, "Bible Answers Live," 00:50:36.63\00:50:38.60 and then ask for the book called, "Understanding Tongues," 00:50:38.63\00:50:40.87 and we can send it to you. 00:50:40.90\00:50:42.77 Let's see, we've got Robert listening in Washington. 00:50:42.80\00:50:44.64 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:50:44.67\00:50:47.08 Robert: Hey, Pastor Ross and Pastor Batchelor. 00:50:47.11\00:50:50.01 Doug: Hi. 00:50:50.05\00:50:51.71 Robert: Hi there. 00:50:51.75\00:50:53.25 Glad I could be squeezed in. 00:50:53.28\00:50:56.02 Doug: Yes, sir. And your question? 00:50:56.05\00:50:59.42 Robert: It's regarding a thing that I've heard before, 00:50:59.45\00:51:02.46 people saying that once we die and go to heaven, there's three 00:51:02.49\00:51:11.77 levels of heaven: celestial, telestrial, and terrestrial. 00:51:11.80\00:51:17.71 And I've heard that it's supposed to be in 00:51:17.74\00:51:22.71 1 Corinthians 15, I think 37-42, something like that. 00:51:22.74\00:51:26.25 Doug: Yeah. 00:51:26.28\00:51:28.55 Robert: But that's the only place that it's referred to, 00:51:28.58\00:51:33.29 but I've always thought there's just one, there's only like 00:51:33.32\00:51:37.03 we either die or else we live forever. 00:51:37.06\00:51:42.06 There's only two options, I thought, but some people 00:51:42.10\00:51:44.97 tell me that there's three. 00:51:45.00\00:51:46.60 Doug: Yeah, the--I don't think that 1 Corinthians 15, 00:51:46.63\00:51:50.94 verse 35 and 40, rather, where it says there are celestial 00:51:50.97\00:51:55.28 bodies and terrestrial bodies and the glory of the celestial 00:51:55.31\00:51:58.05 is one body, the glory of the terrestrial is another. 00:51:58.08\00:52:02.22 There's also the glory of the sun and the moon. 00:52:02.25\00:52:05.42 The three heavens that it speaks about, that Paul talks about, 00:52:05.45\00:52:08.06 it's not talking about this. 00:52:08.09\00:52:10.59 It's a completely different teaching, a different-- 00:52:10.63\00:52:13.76 what do you call it? 00:52:13.80\00:52:16.00 It's a different application. 00:52:16.03\00:52:17.60 The three heavens, they had the heaven that was 00:52:17.63\00:52:20.34 the atmosphere around the earth. 00:52:20.37\00:52:23.10 Then they have the heaven that was the starry bodies of space. 00:52:23.14\00:52:27.54 You can call them the celestial. 00:52:27.58\00:52:29.38 Then they have the heaven that is the dwelling place of God. 00:52:29.41\00:52:31.65 That's called the third heaven. 00:52:31.68\00:52:33.25 When Jesus comes back, it says, 00:52:33.28\00:52:34.65 "I'll make a new heaven and a new earth." 00:52:34.68\00:52:36.05 The heavens and the earth that now exist are going 00:52:36.08\00:52:38.42 to be burned up, meaning the atmosphere in the world. 00:52:38.45\00:52:41.62 You know, God separated the heavens from the heaven 00:52:41.66\00:52:43.96 there in Genesis. 00:52:43.99\00:52:45.36 The atmosphere is going to burn up. 00:52:45.39\00:52:46.80 That's one heaven. 00:52:46.83\00:52:48.10 When it says that you've got the stars in heaven, that's in 00:52:48.13\00:52:51.03 the moon, and the sun, and the stars, and the heavenly bodies. 00:52:51.07\00:52:54.04 That's the celestial bodies. 00:52:54.07\00:52:56.24 The heaven where paradise is, 00:52:56.27\00:52:58.47 the dwelling place of God is the third heaven. 00:52:58.51\00:53:00.88 So, I wouldn't make a strong tie between 1 Corinthians 15:40 00:53:00.91\00:53:05.75 and the three heavens. 00:53:05.78\00:53:08.75 Okay, Pastor Ross, we've got 2 minutes. 00:53:08.78\00:53:11.39 What can we do in that time? 00:53:11.42\00:53:12.92 Can we squeeze in half a call? 00:53:12.95\00:53:14.76 Jean: Absolutely, we've got, let's see, D-Rod listening 00:53:14.79\00:53:17.49 from New Jersey. 00:53:17.53\00:53:18.86 D-Rod, welcome to the program. 00:53:18.89\00:53:20.30 D-Rod: Hello, gentlemen, how are you doing? 00:53:20.33\00:53:22.30 I have a quick question about climate change. 00:53:22.33\00:53:24.80 It says in the book of Matthew like it was in the day with 00:53:24.83\00:53:27.84 Sodom and Gomorrah, and the days of Noah. 00:53:27.87\00:53:30.17 Climate change. 00:53:30.21\00:53:31.54 What's the cause of climate change? 00:53:31.57\00:53:34.44 To me, it's sin. 00:53:34.48\00:53:35.81 I just wanted to know. 00:53:35.84\00:53:38.05 Doug: That's a good question. 00:53:38.08\00:53:39.68 You know, I'm kind of rushing, 00:53:39.71\00:53:42.38 because we're against the clock here. 00:53:42.42\00:53:43.89 But, you know, the Bible tells us that the earth waxes 00:53:43.92\00:53:46.69 old like a garment, and the earth is being crushed 00:53:46.72\00:53:50.36 under a burden of sin. 00:53:50.39\00:53:52.86 And some, no doubt, man has had an impact on the environment. 00:53:52.89\00:53:58.97 You know, how much the warm and cold spells that 00:53:59.00\00:54:03.30 are in the extremes in weather are affected by, 00:54:03.34\00:54:06.91 you know, man's construction and CO2. 00:54:06.94\00:54:09.98 There's all kinds of debates about that, but there's no 00:54:10.01\00:54:12.75 question man is impacting the environment, just 00:54:12.78\00:54:15.22 in the deforestation and stuff. 00:54:15.25\00:54:17.22 I wish I could say more, but we are out of time. 00:54:17.25\00:54:20.32 Friends, don't go away, because we sign off. 00:54:20.36\00:54:23.43 Our regular listeners know that we've got people listening 00:54:23.46\00:54:26.49 on satellite radio. 00:54:26.53\00:54:28.16 They're on a different clock than the land-based stations, 00:54:28.20\00:54:30.57 so we will be bidding them farewell in just a moment, but 00:54:30.60\00:54:32.90 we're going to stay by and answer some rapid fire Bible 00:54:32.93\00:54:36.84 questions that have come in from those who email us questions. 00:54:36.87\00:54:40.01 Some people don't want to call. 00:54:40.04\00:54:41.88 They say, "I'd just like to email it 00:54:41.91\00:54:43.31 and listen off the air." 00:54:43.35\00:54:44.68 What's the address to do that, Pastor Rodd? 00:54:44.71\00:54:46.08 Jean: BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:54:46.11\00:54:49.08 That's the email address. 00:54:49.12\00:54:50.65 Doug: Okay, BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:54:50.69\00:54:52.99 You can send us questions. 00:54:53.02\00:54:54.96 For the rest of you who are listening on satellite stations 00:54:54.99\00:54:58.19 around the country and other parts of the world, God bless. 00:54:58.23\00:55:00.56 We'll look forward to studying with you next time. 00:55:00.60\00:55:02.86 The rest, stay by. 00:55:02.90\00:55:04.90 We'll be back momentarily with rapid fire Bible questions. 00:55:04.93\00:55:08.40 ¤¤¤ 00:55:08.44\00:55:10.21 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:10.24\00:55:12.94 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:12.97\00:55:16.54 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:16.58\00:55:20.48 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:20.52\00:55:24.45 Jean: Hello, friends, welcome back to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:26.35\00:55:28.69 We want to thank you for your email questions 00:55:28.72\00:55:30.26 that you've sent in. 00:55:30.29\00:55:31.59 We're going to try and get through 00:55:31.63\00:55:33.16 as many of these questions as we can. 00:55:33.19\00:55:34.63 And as we mentioned before the break, if you have an email 00:55:34.66\00:55:36.97 question, just simply send it to BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:37.00\00:55:41.74 All right, Pastor Doug, the first question comes from Harry. 00:55:41.77\00:55:44.77 He's asking, "What is the sign mentioned in Matthew 24 that 00:55:44.81\00:55:48.18 talks about the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven?" 00:55:48.21\00:55:51.71 Doug: Yeah, well, some have wondered is that, like, when 00:55:51.75\00:55:55.62 Elijah said he saw a cloud the size of a man's hand coming 00:55:55.65\00:56:01.09 as a signal that the storm was coming? 00:56:01.12\00:56:03.06 Or is it where the Bible says the heavens will depart 00:56:03.09\00:56:07.03 as a scroll when it is rolled together, 00:56:07.03\00:56:08.56 and all the stars fall out of their place? 00:56:08.60\00:56:10.47 It's going to be some cosmic splitting sign that I think 00:56:10.50\00:56:14.64 everyone will recognize. 00:56:14.67\00:56:16.60 'Cause Jesus said it's like lightning going from 00:56:16.64\00:56:18.94 one end of the sky to the other. 00:56:18.97\00:56:20.34 So, something, when you look up, 00:56:20.38\00:56:21.91 says every eye will see when He comes. 00:56:21.94\00:56:23.55 So, something's happening 00:56:23.58\00:56:25.15 in the sky that's going to be unmistakable. 00:56:25.18\00:56:27.72 Jean: Okay, another question that we have, "Is the Spirit 00:56:27.75\00:56:30.65 referred to in Genesis 1, verse 2, is that the Holy Spirit? 00:56:30.69\00:56:33.66 And if so, is it the Spirit of the Father 00:56:33.69\00:56:36.66 or the Spirit of Jesus?" 00:56:36.69\00:56:38.86 Doug: Well, the Holy Spirit is not just talking about 00:56:38.89\00:56:42.23 the Spirit of the Father, the Spirit of Jesus. 00:56:42.26\00:56:44.37 The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, 00:56:44.40\00:56:46.80 and He is equally connected with God the Father and God the Son, 00:56:46.84\00:56:50.64 and yes it is the same Spirit. 00:56:50.67\00:56:52.31 You find the Bible beginning in Genesis, it talks about water 00:56:52.34\00:56:57.75 and the Spirit. 00:56:57.78\00:56:59.91 And then you go to Revelation. 00:56:59.95\00:57:02.02 It says, "The Spirit and the Bride say, 'Come.' 00:57:02.05\00:57:03.52 Whoever is athirst, let him come and take the waters of life." 00:57:03.55\00:57:06.02 So, you've got the Holy Spirit and the waters in the beginning 00:57:06.05\00:57:08.09 and at the end of the Bible. 00:57:08.12\00:57:09.49 It's God the Spirit. 00:57:09.52\00:57:10.89 Jean: Okay, we've got Ty asking from the UK. 00:57:10.93\00:57:14.23 "Are the 144,000 symbolic or literal?" 00:57:14.30\00:57:17.60 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:57:17.63\00:57:19.60 You know, I think people think the 144,000 are the only ones 00:57:19.63\00:57:24.07 that are going to be saved in the last days. 00:57:24.11\00:57:26.41 On the Day of Pentecost in the upper room, you have the 12 00:57:26.44\00:57:30.25 apostles that were filled with the Holy Spirit, plus there was 00:57:30.28\00:57:33.28 120, and then a great multitude was baptized through them. 00:57:33.31\00:57:37.65 In Revelation 7, when it talks about the 144,000, 00:57:37.69\00:57:40.76 they're not the only ones. 00:57:40.79\00:57:43.39 It says through their ministry, have a great multitude that 00:57:43.43\00:57:46.76 comes out of the final tribulation 00:57:46.80\00:57:48.50 that no man can number. 00:57:48.53\00:57:50.00 So, they're not the only ones saved, but it may be a literal 00:57:50.03\00:57:53.50 number, just like the 12 apostles was a little number. 00:57:53.54\00:57:55.84 So, whenever you look at the 144,000, 00:57:55.87\00:57:59.01 just think they're like last-day apostles. 00:57:59.04\00:58:02.08 They're certainly not the only ones saved, 00:58:02.11\00:58:03.75 but they've got a special work. 00:58:03.78\00:58:05.35 All right, listen, friends, now we're serious. 00:58:05.38\00:58:07.52 We're out of time. 00:58:07.55\00:58:08.95 We hope that you'll let us know that you're blessed 00:58:08.98\00:58:10.69 by the programs. 00:58:10.72\00:58:12.09 Connect with us. 00:58:12.12\00:58:13.49 Study the Word, amazingfacts.org, 00:58:13.52\00:58:14.89 back next week. 00:58:14.92\00:58:16.99 ¤¤¤ 00:58:17.03\00:58:18.33 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:18.36\00:58:20.13 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:20.16\00:58:24.17 ¤¤¤ 00:58:24.20\00:58:26.90
